I have learned a family member is on my credit card through US Bank. I do have a checking account with this family member but never requested shared credit. I learned of this two weeks ago. I have asked for documentation that has authorized them to add my family member to my credit card. This family member never knew he was on the credit card, never utilized the credit card and never requested the credit verbally, in writing, or in a physical presence of any kind. He has never opened a statement from US Bank addressed to me.
US Bank's position is that because they have sent statements for 4 years to me gives them the right to continue his name on my account. They will not remove his name until the card is paid in full, due to my financial status. I have received statements with his name on it and thought nothing of it because he is on my checking account and this card was for check overdraft protection. I've been under the understanding one must request credit cards. US Bank's position is that while they have no proof of his request in any form, he must have been knowledgeable because they have sent me (not him) the statements. How can this be legal? Can a bank issue credit to my family member because I requested it in my name? Someone please explain this to me.

My wife and I made the mistake of taking out an auto loan with US Bank. After paying off the 2000 minivan on 8/11 when we sold it, we waited 30 days as instructed. When we called, US Bank said it was just paid on 9/7? A month later? After several phone calls, I got different dates and stories. I'm not sure how that's possible when it should be documented. Right or wrong date, it shouldn't be different every time you call. We called weekly, being told it's in the mail until one guy actually called the department that handles them on 10/7. Surprisingly, they were just working on our account and would be sending it out that day. Two days later, 10/9, we had a message on our answering machine about our 2004 truck title from US Bank? We had no other auto loans or have ever owned a 2004 truck? What in the world are they talking about? I called them on 10/12. Back to the story it was sent on 10/7, and they have no record that they even called us. Still not resolved two months after we paid it off. We have no title. Stay away from US Bank!

They overcharged our escrow account for a year in the amount of $894.28. They then sent us a check for this amount, but they did not include the interest on that amount. While this may seem petty, I suspect they did this to more people than just me, and the interest they accrued on this money surely amounts to a very significant sum. No explanation for why this overage occurred.

Last month, I made a telephone payment for a house payment, loan number **. I use this service frequently. I have never been late on any payments. The automated service asks if you are using the same checking account as the previous time and confirms with the last four digits of your account. I said yes, payment was made and I was given a confirmation number. A few days later, I received written confirmation of payments. This was on the 9th of September. On the 9th of October, I was balancing my checkbook when I came to realize the telephone payment was never taken out of my account. I immediately called US Bank. I was told that I entered my US Bank account number instead of my local bank number so the local bank kicked the payment back.
First of all, I could not have entered the wrong number. It is automated. I was charged a $45 late fee, a $30 return check fee, and worst of all, it was reported to the credit bureau. I am currently trying to improve my credit. US bank told me they could give me a one-time courtesy of removing the late fees (since I was a good customer) but the return check fee and the credit bureau, they could do nothing about. I asked to talk to someone in authority and that still did not help. I don't trust that I made any mistake. It's more probable that someone new on their end entered the info incorrectly. In any case, all I want is to be put back whole as I was before this happened.

On January 24, 2005, my husband and I purchased a home in Graves County, Kentucky with a mortgage through US Bank in Paducah, Kentucky. On September 25, 2009, in the course of selling this home, the standard title search revealed there are Federal and State tax liens filed against the previous owners that were not discovered or disclosed at the time of our purchase. These liens are in excess of $130,000. I have learned that this property was in foreclosure when we purchased it, a fact that was not disclosed to our realtor or to us. We believe the title was misrepresented to us by US Bank, Stewart Title, Attorney Kevin Long, the sellers and the realtors. Although we received signed and notarized documents confirming the title was unencumbered, these significant liens were present.
We have worked our entire lives to amass significant equity in this home. Because of the time it will take to release these liens from out title, we are at risk of losing the sale on our house. All we want is for the liens to be released so we can pursue our plans to sell this house and move 600 miles to be nearer our aging parents. I am available to discuss all details of this issue with you or your assignees if you choose to lend us your assistance. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Three years ago, I lost my job and was unable to make monthly payments on my credit cards. Each credit card company agreed to take a lump sum cash payment of 40% of the outstanding balance. Accordingly, I proposed the same deal to US Bank where I had a credit line account and a credit card, as well as two checking accounts. After providing an income and expense statement and list of assets and liabilities, US Bank accepted a single payment of $4,000. Accordingly, I have a copy of the cancelled check with the two account numbers on the check. All of my accounts were closed, including the two checking accounts.
The last statements that I received dated 10 October 2006 on the two closed checking accounts had a negative balance of $20.57 and $174.27 made up of overdraft charges and fees. I went to the bank to pay the amount owed (small change compared to the $12,000 that my wife had withdrawn from her 401K to settle my debts) and was told that the amount owed had been charged-off. Not being a lawyer, I understood that I had satisfied my obligations with US Bank. Wrong! Today, I am being sued by a debt collection agency. They paid the bank $1 for each account.
The account with a negative balance of $20.57 increased to $363.99 by 19 December 2006, and then grew to $774.70 at 21% interest according to the debt collector's letter of 23 July 2009. They are claiming $1,004.39 for the account that had a negative balance of $174.27 on 10 October 2006. I met with a lawyer representing the collection company on Monday, 5 October. He agreed to all of the above information, and he went on to say that I was legally liable for the current balance of more than $1,700.

My experience started when we opened a US Bank account without doing any research. They have, in two months, held two payroll checks for 3 days each, which they themselves said should never happen, and a $1,000.00 cash deposit I had to beg to get them to release on a Saturday, so I could pay for my new tires. As everyone else said, they have held money to collect fees. Items that were processed on one day would show up 5 days later, overdraw the account, and a trickle effect of 2 or 3 OD fees show up. They sent me an email describing how they pay (the order) items - what it amounts to is fraud. In two months, they have collected about $300.00 in fees, not because I did not have the money, but because of the way they manipulated my account. I am looking for a class action lawyer now and starting an online petition, which I will post here once I am done. Thanks.

This sounds a lot like some of the other complaints. We opened the account online with US Bank in June 2009 and funded the account in July 2009 with my first payroll check that was "held" unknown to me while I wrote some checks over the weekend. Bingo! Overdraft and NSF fees began. I addressed the branch manager as soon as I found out. I got these initial fees reversed since I was not told by any of her bank employees about the need to hold new account deposits for 5 days for the first 30 days of opening an account. We paid the retailers we owed.
Having been in bank operations in the past, I know what they are doing, not protecting you or I or even the bank. If the bank takes my $1000 payday deposit and the payday deposits of all new customers for the first thirty days and invests them overnight, that works out to a lot of interest over a 30-day period. Well, we moved states for employment opportunities still unbelievably keeping US Bank. We have gone from a positive $80.04 on 9/1/09 to a negative $451.27 as of 9/25/09 because of US Bank's creative finance practice of ensuring debits are taken before credits are given even if they come in before the debits. We have requested the closing of this account on 9/27/09. Let's see how long it takes them to do this. $8 a day in overdraft fees is pretty tempting.

I am used to all the OD fees and even though times are tight, I've been okay at not getting caught in US Bank's OD trap. However, I deposited a refund check from an out of state cable company and made a number of purchases with the money from that check. Five days later, my account suddenly was overdrawn in excess of $400. My total purchases were well under $150 so most of the "overdrawn" money was in OD fees. It turns out the cable company cancelled my refund check the day I received it and issued a new one because it had gotten lost in the mail and took such a long time to deposit. Even though the OD was not my fault, the bank is screwing me out of hundreds of dollars of OD and late fees. Most of my purchases were no more than a few dollars, yet I got charged $37.50 for each and every one of them.

Tiffany called our office in mid-September 2009 as a window and door contractor under the guise of "partnering with them for clients under our new Green Home Loan program." She said, "We are looking for partners." She made the program sound like a certified contractor program where US Bank would provide their loan clients for us to do their energy efficient windows. Thank the Lord, we only wasted fifteen minutes with this liar! Tiffany's idea of a business partnership is that we agree to hand out their loan fliers to all our clients to provide HELOC (home equity) credit. We would have to do all our banking with US Bank to have them hand out our card "if asked by a client."
We don't even get any leads from our current bank. We walked out of the meeting abruptly! If approached by US Bank (or any other bank, I suspect) as a contractor, ask them first, "Will you be using us a source of referrals, or is the purpose of this to service your existing loan clients? " If the former, run for the hills! It's a banker's shell game. This "program" was more like the old "we have too many clients, can you use some (then sell advertising line)" than any "program." A free t-shirt is free advertising, but asking someone to sell your loans under the guise of providing them business? Methinks not!
People offering contractors more clients are just wanting to sell something, and now banks are in on it. As everyone knows, all banks are the epitome of moral - hah!

They charged me an overdraft fee of $35.00 plus $7.00 a day until the money is paid back, even if I was overdrawn by less than a dollar! It makes it hard to get caught up when they incur charges like this. I am a single mother making $11.00 an hour and they closed my account and charged me closing fees and other fees, which I don't understand, for a total of over $200.00 in extra fees alone. And now this has been sent to collections.

They allowed two fraudulent charges on my account that I purposely leave low so that people cannot steal from me. I informed them they were fraudulent and started a dispute and US Bank has charged me overdraft charges and daily negative fees that they themselves caused - due to this activity. I have tried to talk to them and they refuse to do anything. They say they can charge me these fees until this gets resolved. I have sent them the cancellation notices from the business (so-called) that the fraudulent charges came from and they still refuse to do anything about it. I have $230 bank charges in just a few days on disputed amounts. This is illegal.

I have also had the sting of overdraft fees that many others I have spoken with had but my complaint is different. I had a consumer loan through US Bank for my boat. I sold the boat on 8/8/09 and paid off my loan using the buyer's cashier's check from Bank of America. US Bank froze the funds for 7 days before clearing the money. (They could then charge me more interest). I finally was able to pay off the loan on 8/18/09. They then told me that the title would take two weeks to process plus mail time. Are you kidding me?
I've purchased a lot of vehicles and large ticket items and I have never waited for more than 5 days to get a title. It is now 9/19/09, 6 weeks since I deposited my money and I have yet to receive the title. The person who purchased my boat is livid and US Bank has no answers other than, "the title is on the way". I had to go in and process a DMV release of lien form with them today and the branch said they couldn't sign it and had to send it to their consumer loan division, which of course doesn't work on weekends.
I will never take another loan out with US Bank and I am looking to switching banks. This experience had me do some research and I was astounded at the amount of complaints against US Bank. I am definitely giving my money to someone else! I have a very pissed off buyer who will have to pay penalties in the State of California since the DMV charges him if he doesn't process paperwork within 10 days of the sale.

I was enrolled in paperless statements without my knowledge. When they had not received a payment, they called and I informed them that I had not gotten a statement. They told me that I had paperless statements. They switched me back to regular statements and I paid a payment larger than the minimum payment asap directly from my bank account. They reversed my late fee. My newer statement came with a finance fee and when I inquired, they told me that b/c my payment was more than 15 days late, my 0 % interest rate promotion was cancelled. This is not fair.
After speaking to 2 representatives, 2 supervisors and 1 manager, they told me that they cannot reinstate my promotion and that my interest rate would jump to 30%. I am being penalized for a mistake that they made and they are not taking responsibility for what they did. I ended up cancelling my card and will have to just pay it before the interest rate jumps higher. This is ridiculous and not fair. No one will help me and they are just telling me the same thing over and over. They should have to take responsibility for a mistake that they made. Instead, I am having to take the rap for it and it will cost me a lot of money. I don't believe that this is how they conduct business and how they treat their customers. It was their mistake!

I recently watched a report on the NBC nightly news regarding overdraft fees using my debit card. I have been in a constant match, trying to keep up with overdraft fees and the challenges of keeping my account from generating fees. In the month of September, I paid about $1300 in fees and cash advances, because the bank felt it was necessary to take their fees out before they paid any pending debt. I had used my ATM card at a non-US bank ATM. And yes, I know there is a few.
When you check your debit items, it appears as though you have a plus balance until they post the items. They took a $2.00 fee per ATM item, which caused several items to bounce. One was as low as $1.01. They charged me $37.50 for each item that would have been covered normally before they altered the way they paid the items. In addition, because I'm paid once a month and have no replacement to put in the bank, the bank also charges $8.00 per day the account is overdrawn after the fifth day.
I'm at wit's end and have no one to complain to. It appears the government and the banks are in bed together. The consumers have not been protected for a long time. I have been paying the excessive fees, and it has taken its toll. The bank instructed me to open a second account, and it was supposed to help with overdraft fees. Well, that was a lie. If my main account gets overdrawn, they will take $3.00 if that is all that is in the account and apply to the other checking account and then charge me a fee $5.00.
I tried to keep ahead, but it seems as though the bank look for customers who pay a lot of fees and keep them reeled in with their practices. I left Bank of America for the same reasons. There is no control on how banks treat you when you have debit purchases. They should be instant, but again, there is a hidden rule.

Since becoming a customer, I have incurred numerous overdraft charges that were unwarranted. US Bank will show an available balance that without any transactions made on the account will go negative. For example, I made a $500.00 deposit into my account, at the time of the deposit there was an available balance $971.00. I withdrew $500.00 during the same trip to the bank. The following day the bank is now showing a different available balance when the $500.00 was withdrawn when really it is the available balance of that day, not the day the transaction was made. There is no clear way of knowing what your real balance is since US Bank clears things on their own time. It appears based on when they clear all transactions that they manipulate the order of the transactions in order to throw an account negative even though it never was. Consequences: hundreds of dollars in overdraft fees.

In 2007, I booked a room at a hotel in New York. Before I even got to the airport, I had gotten email notifications that I was being charged $30.00 every 10-30 minutes (incurring about 4-6 $30.00 charges per day). I checked into my hotel with no money in my account, in a whole other state; luckily, I had cash on me. I called US Bank and told them the situation; they told me to contact the hotel which I did, and write a letter to them saying I paid cash, and they charged my card when they didn't, and so on. The lady at customer service rebated only one charge; whoopty doo on over $200.00 in overdraft charges. I tried contacting them and let them know the situation, although they just said wait until you have the collection agency contact you.
Two years later (now 2009), I get a letter in the mail from an attorney/collection agency saying I owe nearly $1,000.00. I am furious! Then they say if I don't pay it, they will take me to court. When I initially got a letter, it said I owed $595.00. Due to our economic times, I had and did not have a job so how would I pay this money (now, almost a year later, $1,000.00)? I called the customer service as well; they transferred me to a number whose mailbox was full and then it transferred me back to the initial call page. Ridiculous... Who in the world charges every 10 minutes? US Bank does folks. Upon calling the collection agency, they said they will reduce it to $571 due to hardship; but I have to have the money by the end of this month (September). I would have to pay the nearly $1,000 ($150.00/ month) for the next 6 months. I do not have the $$$ for this crap. I am taking a leave due to my mother's illness and do not know where my income is coming from for the next couple of months.

I leased a Volvo on 3/31/09. I paid the first payment at the time of deal and pick. In April, when I expected the payment was supposed to be due, I contacted US Bank to see when my statement would be received. At that time, I was informed that they had an incorrect address but they would update their database to reflect the correct address. The next month, I got a bill in the mail. June came, and again, there's no bill. After speaking to numerous incompetent customer service reps and waiting online for over 1/2 hour, I made a payment online with an additional $10 charge. I was advised I would receive a statement the next month. Lo and behold, for July, August, and September, I never received any statement.
Today, I called and waited 20 minutes for a representative to answer the phone. She informed me she would transfer to a manager. It's another 20-minute wait, and I got transferred back into the queue and got another customer service rep, who could not help me but would get me someone who can. Out of patience, I started to tell the rep that she was not customer-friendly and that everything I have read about the poor customer satisfaction with US Bank holds true. She got me someone, an Alex, who said he could not take my payment but would try and find out why my statements did not arrive. Also, he gave me a phone number to make my payment.
After another 15-minute wait online to get a representative to assist since their computer system does not acknowledge my account number, he said, "I can transfer you to someone who can help." I really lost it at this point. I told her that I was tired of being transferred to someone who cannot do anything but pass the buck on. I told her I don't want to get a drop in my credit rating because of their incompetence. So, she took my information and made the payment. I work in a customer service unit, and if I treated our customers like I was treated, I think we would eventually be out of business.

There were massive overdrafts. My account was fine and I pay close attention to it. I was not in the negative until the overdrafts hit and their own online banking shows as much - seven total. One situation is that they hold deposits and things clear and one of the deposits was cash. Then they charge a daily negative balance fee. All this without one single phone call or email. But if you look at the online banking history, it never once went into the negative until the first fee. They can’t explain it, but they will tell you it’s to their discretion. The second complaint is that I contacted US Bank a week earlier because I was worried that a check may not clear and I wanted a checking advance.
I was told not to worry because deposits hit before debits and since I was due, they told me to make a deposit the following day and not to worry about it. Well, not only did it clear, but they backdated the clearing date to the date written on the check making my deposit worthless for that transaction. Just as a note: I have regular direct deposits and because of such, they offer advances based on up to 50% of the value of those deposits. They never even tried to use those instead or even called to make the offer. They will, however, soak up those direct deposits for their fees and leave a customer broke.

I checked my account online on August 31st and found that one of my accounts was overdrawn for $1.09. I called the 1-800 US Bank's phone number on the back of my checking card and spoke with a representative. I told her that I didn't authorize a charge on my account and that my account was charged $1.09 causing my account to be overdrawn. The customer service rep then concluded to start an unauthorized charge report and advised me that if I transferred $1.09 from my main account that it would cover the overdraft charge and if I accrued any other charges to give them a call and the charge would be reversed. She also said that if the fraud case was found in my favor that the overdraft charge of $1.09 would be reversed.
I checked my account on Sept. 4 and found my account to be overdrawn $60 and some cents. I called customer service again and spoke with another rep. She then advised me that Redbox DVD had put the charge through in August, although the card was swiped back in June! I asked, “Why did it take more than two months for you to charge my card?” She said merchants sometimes lose receipts and that they have up to 6 months to charge an account. I said, "Does that say that anywhere on your website or on my statements?" I wanted to know how I, as a regular consumer, would know that. She said it wasn't on their website nor was it on my statements because it was common knowledge.
I told her, "With all due respect, how would I know that?" She replied that if I had called my banker and asked how long I should keep the $1.09 charge on my ledger then I would know. I said the banker probably would say, "Give it a couple of days, but not a couple of months." So I said, "So you're telling me it's kind of like a 'don't ask-don't tell' policy?" I don't think that's right. She advised me to call Redbox DVD and if they refund the $1.09, then US Bank would then proceed to refund the overdraft charges assessed to my account.

We have been noticing that our SurePay direct deposits are not being deposited when they are supposed to be and that the bank is putting everything through before they do the deposits. We thought we were doing things wrong but finally figured out what was happening.
US Bank has charged us $37.50 for every overdraft in the amounts of $265.0 to $300.00 at a time. When we went and inquire why things overdrafted, they stated that everything cleared the day before. But when I checked our account at 12:30 am, it still said we had an available balance of $117.00 and an account balance of $178.00. Their response was that the site had not been updated yet, but I have a printout with the time of 12:30 am. They are unwilling to even answer my e-mails. I filed taxes for two years. When I got the first state tax check, I called US Bank and asked if they were honoring the IOUs that the state was handing out. They said, "Yes, just be sure to take it to the branch you bank with." So thinking everything is good, I took the first state return to the bank and cashed it. Three days later, I received the second check and took it into the bank and cashed it. The next day, I went into the bank to transfer some funds into my mom's account and I was overdrawn. What the **. So, I asked the manager what was going on. He said he would have to call and let me know. When he got back to me, he informed me that they were not accepting the IOUs and they should not have cashed them. The checks were being mailed back to me and that it was like me writing a bad check although they said they were going to do me a favor and not charge me any penalties.
In the meantime, I need to make up the difference to them. They over-drafted my account and took all the money I had in there. Now, I am waiting on the checks they put in the mail and they called me asking when I'm going to make up the overdraft.

I had been a faithful US Bank customer for 4 years. My personal checking accounts, to which my monthly pay is direct-deposited, my mortgage, my car loan, and my credit cards were all issued by one division of US Bank or another. This will all change as of today. In the four years I've had my 3 US Bank credit cards, I've paid each bill on time. I missed one payment last month. No need to go into excuses, but the end result was I missed one payment. I received a notice telling me that because I had missed one payment, my credit limit had been dropped from $20,000 to $500. I couldn't believe that missing one payment would stir such a reaction, which would affect my debt to credit ratio, and hence my credit score. I called the US Bank credit department and they said they would look into it.
A few days later, I received a notice that they have reviewed my credit profile and that the credit increase was denied since I had a "high utilization of existing revolving accounts". The debt to credit ratio decrease that was instigated by US Bank themselves is what dropped my score! And now they are using that as an excuse to deny a credit increase? So crazy, it's almost funny. I will happily take my business elsewhere. My $20,000 monthly direct deposit will be welcomed in a lot of other institutions, and my continuous and reliable payment history will support me in other places.

By the way, all they can charge on 1 day is 6 OD charges. So what did they do? To get a 7th charge they returned 1 check and called it a return check charge! I am done with US Bank. They are rip-offs.

Similar to all the other reports I have read on this website, we are also experiencing the same issues. And now this is the second time. I have been out of work for close to a year and picked up a casual position at the local office for just two weeks. I deposited my paycheck Friday evening and it said $100 of it would be available immediately; Just to be sure the check would be in there on Saturday, I refrained from going to the grocery store until Sunday. I thought the entire amount would have posted, but no. Apparently, my funds wouldn't be available until the following Tuesday according to the bank. It's a paycheck, a government one at that. I don't understand.
Anyway, I currently have four overdrafts of $37.50 apiece against my account and instead of having money left over I really needed, I am now negative $67. A couple of months ago, we had a similar problem with this bank holding money for a bill long in advance. We promptly stopped auto payments on that bill, but again we received no recourse or money back. I'm very angry and upset. We are having a hard time as it is and for this to happen is devastating. This bank is awful and their policies seem to suit their greediness rather than their customers. We are closing our account and finding a new bank, but they have stolen hundreds from us with bank fees that should never have been posted and refused to give a cent of it back. If there's a class-action lawsuit in the future, count me in.
Due to having only one income, no unemployment or any other kind of income coming in whatsoever and already struggling, this problem has set us back even further. The job market is brutal and it is very difficult to get a job right now. I just moved to Ohio from Massachusetts last year and it's been difficult for me to find anything at all except a couple of temporary positions I had last year. I've been out of work since November 2008. So, even working for those two weeks was going to buy food and other necessities and take some of the stress off - instead, this. I can't even say how upset I am - this is like being robbed. This is the worst bank I've ever seen. It's shocking, what they do. Also, I had never heard of the $8 overdraft charge per day extra they pile on top of everything else. Is this even legal? Sick, I say sick. Someone please do something about this bank!

I opened a checking account with US Bank 3 years ago. I left town for a week and scratched the magnet on my debit card. So, I was unable to withdraw cash from the ATM. I was using the debit card for all my purchases and over drafted on 4 purchases for a total of $40.32. They charged me the $35.00 overdraft fee for each charge plus $7 a day; by the time I got back in town with all the fees, I was over-drafted almost $300.00. I went to my bank manager and explained the situation and tried to settle the debt. They were unwilling to work with me at all. When I set up the bank account, they told me that they could set up the account so that I could never overdraft with my debit card. I guess that was a lie. Long story short, they sold the debt and I am now being sued for over $1300.00.
I cannot believe that we live in a country that will let our banking institutions get rich off the backs of hard-working people by ways of lies and old-fashioned robbery. I have two choices now: pay up and let them rob me or spend a bunch of cash on an attorney and, if I lose, even more money for their attorney’s fees. I do believe that they are wrong and I don't care if it cost me $20,000.00 fighting them. When I googled US Bank complaints, I found over 2000 complainants just like me in less than 5 minutes. I think that it is time for hard-working American people to stand up and fight these banks that are nothing more than gangster robbers in suits. Any advice or complaints like mine, please email **.

In Feb. 09, I was offered a reduced interest saving me $250 per month. I failed on one payment and the next was $1200, then $1400 thereafter. I have contacted the bank numerous times and when finally talking to someone, they said I was in default resolution and not to call because they will get to me when they can. It is now Aug. '09 and not one word except threatening to collect a debt. I have waited up to 20 minutes, only to be told that they are unable to help. This was told to me a least 10 times in the last 6 months. I want to reconcile this matter but US Bank is unwilling to cooperate on any level, even since I forwarded documents requested for default resolution. I could be saving $250 per month according to their offer in Feb. 09 but still no answer. This is frustrating because I missed 1 payment and then sent $1200 and subsequent payments of $1400. Now they say last month, I owe $4652.77. I am at wits' end to wait so long and be told they are unable to handle any business from me. Please help.

After making two separate cash deposits (greenbacks), US Bank held the deposit and caused eight overdraft charges. When I went into the bank (crying) he, the manager, looked me straight in the eye and said that's how they do it. He refunded 1/3 of the amount of charges to bring my balance barely in the black, then tried to sell me on high interest acct/loan options. This is a Mafia shakedown scam. I swear, I would be better off getting one of those 40% car title loans. At least there, you know you're going to get screwed. I was charged overdraft fees on July 14 or 15 that were back-dated to July 10. Had I been aware that fees were being assessed or had they been assessed in a timely manner, I would have not conducted other transactions on July 14, which resulted in further overdraft fees for the transactions I conducted on that day! I contacted a branch representative who said they would pass on my complaint, and nothing ever came of it.
Then I emailed the consumer questions section of their website, and they have refused multiple times to assist me, stating it is "not their fault." The branch representative offered to have me apply for a credit card linked to my account or sign me up for some type of overdraft protection. I never heard anything from that either, so I applied online for the credit card, which was subsequently denied.
I find this odd since my credit is fine, and prior to my complaints to them, they had been sending me platinum applications on a weekly basis. I have direct deposit and am looking for a different job. So once I secure that at the end of the month, I will open an account at a new bank with direct deposit from my new employer and close this account. I think it is pathetic that US Bank would rather lose a 20-year customer than correct their mistake.

My husband has late stage cancer, and spent time reorganizing our finances before he entered the hospital for 3 risky lung and liver surgeries last week. He made transfers from one bank account to another through US Bank, since we used their online bill pay to track finances for us, my 79-year old mother, and my brother, who both live with us. My husband paid down on the mortgage, bought a newer car for us, built a shed to move mom's stuff from storage, loaned my brother money, etc. At all times, there was money to cover each purchase. This money was transferred from our other bank, which is a Federal Credit Union.
Suddenly, my husband's debit card was no good. He was told at US Bank that that our account, with $21,000 in it, was closed, but they would not tell him why. I was locked out of our online account and directed to call **. The woman who answered was nasty and said they did not have to inform us that they closed my account of many years, or why.
I begged her not to close the account, and she asked me what about account closed did I not understand. She then went off the phone, and my call was routed to the Sumner branch, where Josh could only tell me my account was flagged for too many bank to bank transactions and importing money from a German bank. I called the women back at the number my online account directed me to, and she hung up on me.
My husband has been in and out of intensive care since last week at Swedish Hospital. The check for the car he bought bounced, as did out medical insurance premium, my mother's dental insurance, and I don't know what else, since I can't access my account.
I received a letter from US Bank, unsigned, that said our account was closed due to suspicious transactions, and that they would hold our money for 15 days before returning it to us as a cashier's check in the mail. It also said we may be reported to appropriate agencies and the credit bureau. I have received 2 email notices from US Bank that items have been presented to US Bank for payment, and returned due to not being honored by my financial institution. US Bank is the one not honoring these items. The emails state we will be responsible for fees, and the items may be referred for collection.
My husband, who is currently in intensive care, worked for the printer division of Siemens in Seattle. His pension from Siemens, which he has been receiving for years does come from a trust fund in Germany. The checks presented for deposit to US Bank have always come from Chicago. There is a very clear paper trail of where our money comes from.
My husband has a pension and Social Security, which we have no access to, since they were directly deposited to a closed account. I have a monthly paycheck from my job as a teacher for 22 years in the same district, and a disability stipend, since I am not able to work full time due to a heart condition. My mother has Social Security deposited at another bank, where she also has the money from the sale of her house. There are no large amounts of unexplained income. I have documents at home to support the above.

On Monday, July 27, 2009, I made a deposit of $701.00. The majority of the deposit was a check ($501) and the remaining $200 was a cash deposit. This deposit took place around 2:00 PM EST. This is well before US Bank's end of day cut off. I was told the cash posted immediately, but it did not. They held $100.00 of that deposit. They also held $401 from the check. All this is sleazy. But knowing the entire deposit would post that night (deposits always are supposed to post first - then debits), I log in next morning and I am great. The log says I have $193 in my account (so did the automated phone banking). As I was leaving for a meeting, I checked once more to see if an important debit had gone through and lo and behold, I see 6 (yes, 6) overdraft fees for $37.50 each. Yet my account was positive?
I called immediately and was told that the deposit from the previous day did not post until after 7 am that day. Who on earth does this? My credit union, Chase, Huntington - no one other banks do this. It is unethical and completely dishonest. In banking, all transactions take place at midnight (unless an ATM withdrawal, etc.). Checks, deposits and the such always come out at midnight, with deposits first and debits second. Who waits until after 7 the next day to post a deposit yet takes out the debits at midnight? And better yet, it does not reflect that online or over the phone. So a person sees a positive balance and assumes - good! I am taking my money out of this bank as soon as I can recoup my $225.00 that they stole (yes, they flat out took it). They are horrible. The government needs to step in and investigate them. It’s so appalling! By the way due to this fiasco, I may lose my contract on my first home. I am 45-year-old single mother who just sent her only child away to college. I called customer service and they said we could fix it by sending the difference the following month. Six phone calls later (after we made the extra payment and after the card was shut off and they notified the credit bureaus that we were late), I asked what was written on our file. They noted that we had a payment that was not made and we promised to pay it in 30 days. That was it. No mention that it was their error, that we sent 100% payment and they keyed it in wrong.
I asked to speak with a supervisor and the service rep actually screamed at me over the phone! A supervisor called me back and said he would straighten it out and write us a letter so we had proof to correct our credit rating. We needed to call back two more times to get the card activated again. They did send a letter, but it said we only paid $15 on x month's payment so the card was shut off, then re-activated when payment was made. No mention that they entered the amount wrong. We also received notification that since our payment was late, our unlimited monthly limit was cut to $9,000. We still haven't straightened this out. Is it really that difficult to fix a problem that they caused? Or, is it possible they did this on purpose so we would need to pay interest for 2-3 months?

In the past I have purchased one Volvo Sedan and leased 3 other Volvo XC 70 with Volvo Finance Corp., which was great to deal with. I was never late with payments to them in the 12 years I dealt with them! My lease payment is due on the 25th of each month. I have not yet received my July bill (today is the 11th) so I called customer service to ask about it. I was told it went out on the 3rd but I could go online to view and copy the statement. I tried that but they will not let you copy the statement unless you are signed up for "paperless statements" all the time.
I am now concerned because if it takes them 10 days to get the bill to me, then one could assume it could take 10 days to get it back to them, plus they say to allow 2-5 days to process it - then my payment could actually be late. I think this is a scam to collect late fees on people. I have never had a bill: credit card, electric bill, etc., close out, on say the 25th, and not receive the bill by the 1st or 2nd of the following month, giving me at least 14-20 days to pay. Has anyone else had this problem with US Bank? I am considering writing to my state attorney general about the issue and would like feedback from others with the same problem. Thanks.

On June 11, 2009, I called in to US Bank's 800 number to ask what my balance was. I was advised it was $16.44 and that I had pending transactions that were going to put me over. I asked then if I could go make a deposit, and the agent advised me to save my time and just speak with the manager on Monday to see what I could do.
Well, on June 12, I was hit with 6 overdraft fees for pending transactions. When I went to the bank on Monday to get help, the first bank referred me to the branch where I opened my account. So I went to the branch and spoke with the manager there, who stated that she would credit $100.00 of the fees. At that time, I advised her that I only had $100 as my husband had just got laid off. She then proceeded to tell me that would not be enough and I would continue to get fees. So I asked for my account to be closed, and she declined as I had overdraft fees.
I then went back to the other branch to pay for my outstanding transactions, and they would not let me, as they said I need to pay the full amount, including the fees. So in doing that, my account was then hit with 2 more overdraft fees. So then on June 16, I made a deposit of $150.00. The very next day, I was hit with another 6 overdraft fees and $24.00 in negative balance fees. I have been calling the bank at least once a week to get help with the account. They advised me they would have someone call me back, but they never did.
So from June 16 until the current, I keep getting $8.00 a day negative balance fee. Just last week, they sent me a letter stating that they will close my account on July 30 with yet another $30.00 closing fee. On July 8, 2009, I sent an email via the US Bank's website, asking for help. They sent back and said I need to pay all the fees and close my account, as I refused the bank manager's help. I advised them I did not refuse the help and that I just was not able to pay more than $100. And the manager told me then that she would not credit the $100.00. At this point, my account is negative $688.29, all in fees.

We purposely removed money from our account in February and since the branch refused to send out the missing statements that we were not receiving since January, we requested the account be closed. We need to first get the statements that we requested, not these continuous harassed letters with the fees, and we want to make sure we never have to deal with this branch again! Both my wife and I have called the 800 number on several occasions, which was not any help. We were told they can't help us, go to the branch, which the branch did nothing, so we need someone from the Corporate Office to address this issue immediately! US Bank can't just do whatever they want to do, charge people $8.00 a day for fees when they were told of errors, then damage our credit history because they just feel like it!
We want all fees removed, the copies of our account since January of 2009, $24.00 a day damages for these illegal fees, a written apology from that branch, removal of any negative information on our credit history and an additional $15,000 for damages. From the very beginning when we deposited money into our account, the management there was very rude, questioning our checks and deposits (as if we were committing some type of fraud) which made a working relationship with the branch impossible. I opened a new joint checking account with my husband at our local U.S. Bank (after having to close my 12-year account with Bank of America since there are none here in our new town). So I started depositing my weekly paychecks by walking into the bank. My husband did the same. Neither of our employers offer direct deposit. Well, of course, over the weekend, we bought groceries and gas with our ATM card.
Well, the next week, I check my account balance online. The entire weekend of purchases were allowed to go through, but apparently, there was 0.00 available in our account! Even though there was over $1,500 in there! The bank "held" our funds for several days "because it was new account" and all of our transactions were considered an overdraft. For each separate overdraft, we were charged $19 per transaction, totaling over $100. Now this was only over a 2-day period of the first weekend we had this new checking account. Not a good first impression.
When I called them and went into my branch to discuss this, they acted like they had done nothing wrong and it was standard policy to hold funds (even paychecks) for 1-5 business days on new checking accounts! Needless to say, I am not a happy new customer of U.S. Bank. I think this whole "hold your funds then charge you overdraft fees" is nothing more than a money making scam. When is this common bank practice going to be against the law? My husband and I are almost ready to close our account. US Bank loves to do whatever they think they can to get your money. On Monday, June 8, 2009, I gave my rent check to my landlord. On the same day, at 7 am, I deposited half the rent from my girlfriend to the bank. I called the 800 customer service number at 2pm that same day to see if I needed to deposit cash to make sure that the rent check would not cause an overdraft. I was informed that that was not necessary since the check would clear overnight and that money would be deposited first before money is taken from my account.
On Tuesday, June 10, 2009, I looked at my bank account online and saw only $150 in my available balance. When I started to investigate what caused my account to drop so low, I saw six (6) overdraft charges pending on my account in the amount of $37.50 each! I called the bank to inquire how I could have overdrafted, yet I maintained a positive balance. They transferred me to Sam in my home branch.
Sam informed me that he was the supervisor at the branch and that no refund could be made on the overdraft fees because the check didn't clear until 6 am that day while the rest of the debits from my account cleared earlier than 6 am. When I asked to speak to Sam's supervisor, he told me to contact the 800 customer service number. When I told him that they transferred me to him, he told me that he was the supervisor, and around we went, trying to figure out who is next in command.
At one point, I actually had to ask him if he was the president of the bank! He then informed me that the manager was out of the office, so that was why he was in charge. When I asked for the manager's contact information, Sam told me he was hanging up and did just that! No one at US Bank is willing to refund any overdraft charges, and I am out a lot of money because of it. I
am out $225 in overdraft fees. I also had to do a "checking account advance" to make sure that other checks will clear in the amount of $300. The interest on that is $30 and it is a vicious cycle, because now I have to find $300 somewhere or else when I get my next deposit, they will deduct the $330 and I will have to advance another $300!

US Bank will reflect pending transactions in the account balance and available balance. When the balances become negative due to US Bank applying pending transactions towards the account/available balances, this is what they do:
US Bank will take a particular pending transaction (call this transaction A) which will not cause an account to become overdrawn, and they will reflect it and apply it to the account and available balance, even though it's considered pending. Transaction B, which is another pending transaction and is significantly smaller than A, will get reflected towards the account and available balance as well, but this will cause the account to go red and trigger an overdraft to occur. We will call this overdraft "NFS B" because pending transaction B triggered it to occur. Now, NSF B gets permanently posted to the account while both transaction A and B are still pending. Thus, it's causing the overdrawn account to become more negative. This is fine with me, as it is my fault.
Here is the problem. Pending transaction A and B will then switch places on the register which, in reality, makes transaction A appear to cause NSF B. The NSF fees are not labeled as to which transaction caused them; they just post arbitrarily. It is at this time that transaction A becomes permanently posted.Transaction B which, is still pending, then gets permanently posted after Transaction A and NSF B are permanently posted. This causes transaction B to trigger an overdraft again which is the second NSF fee that was caused by transaction B. But since they don't label NSF fees, it looks like A caused the first NSF fee and B caused the second.
I believe this is double dipping, and they use the term pending as a justification to switch transactions and cause multiple overdrafts to occur when only one was supposed to occur. This is what has happened to me. I know that I need to be more responsible with paying attention to when I don't have enough available funds to cover a transaction. However, it is their little tricks that allow them to double dip.
If US Bank did not attribute pending transactions towards the running balance and instead only attributed them towards the running balance when they became permanently posted, this double dipping would not occur. It has turned a tens of dollars problem into a 1000+ dollar problem.

After I deposited my first payroll check, I noticed within the next day or so non-sufficient fund fees. After investigating the cause, I learned that the bank put a hold on the money already in my account. Next, they would allow debit card transactions to be approved, each resulting in a $35 overdraft fee. At the same time, when I would call to do a balance inquiry (by phone), I was told that I had a positive balance. I was not aware that I was about to enter into such an expensive (and misleading) transaction, or I would have canceled and used other means to handle my payroll check.
Unfortunately, the number of fees would quickly multiply. In less than one month, my account has become negative $700 today--all due to bank fees! I have deposited more than $2500 during that same time period. And the fees continue to grow more negative with US Bank’s $8/day negative balance fee! This is out of control! I was told that this account would be turned over to collections. In addition to being harassed for payment, once reported to the credit bureaus, it will have a negative impact on my struggling credit score.

This afternoon, I checked the online bank statement and it showed two overdraft fees for $35 each.
I called their 800 number and the customer service rep walked me through my statement online. She directed me to look at a specific check that had cleared yesterday and told me to click on the blue "remaining balance" column. She told me that to understand my error, I would need to "go back in time" to see that the check had not really been cleared. The time-travel experiment simply proved to me that their online statements are not static documents that can be trusted. The legality of a statement that morphs into whatever brings in the most money through outrageous fees is certainly suspect.
I complained fiercely and the fees were taken reversed. That being said, I can only imagine how consumers with less savvy and tenacity are losing their hard-earned money to these sharks.

About three years ago before my husband and I got married, we decided, after moving in together, that we wanted to get a joint checking account. Being that we were only exclusively dating, his name went on as the primary of the account.
The day that we went to set up our joint checking account, I deposited savings bonds from my grandmother in the amount of $4,904.38 and $400.00 on 10-25-06. A few days later, we went back to a different US Bank that is inside most Meijer's grocery stores in the Southwest Ohio region to take out some money and do some shopping. After I got the receipt of our balance, I noticed that it said we had $49,034.38! Whoever originally deposited our money, deposited it as $44,130.00. Now, I've never worked at a bank before, but I find it utterly ridiculous that they would hire someone who is obviously not qualified for the job, being as they were completely illiterate and incapable of putting in the correct amount.
For weeks, maybe months, I called and called and called the original bank branch I deposited that bond at. I called district, I called corporate, I called anyone and everyone I could to get this matter sorted out.
Some people may think, "Oh hey, great! I've got over $40,000 to blow and I'm only 18 years old." But we were responsible with that money, knowing fully well that it belonged to someone else and if we spent any of it, then we'd be held responsible to pay it back. US Bank was completely and totally uncooperative with this situation. It's like it didn't matter that we had a large sum of money that wasn't ours. I'd tell the story to one person working in "customer service" who would say, "Wow! That's crazy!" only to transfer me to someone else who I would have to explain the story to as well, etc. etc. etc. This got old. I was always promised a phone call back, or promised that things would get taken care of. Nothing ever did.
So after weeks of calling nearly every day to get the money taken out of our account (so we could actually know what was ours vs. what wasn't), they took it out, only to put it back in a few days later. Why? Who knows. We never got an explanation. Because US Bank doesn't care about handling customer issues. They only care about calling and harassing you when they need some kind of payment.
Finally, we broke down and called the Dayton Bar Association to hire a lawyer to get all these matters dealt with. We went downtown to Green & Green Law and paid $150 for a lawyer to simply write a letter explaining the situation. Needless to say, he was blown away by our predicament, stating that he had never seen anything like that before.
It's frustrating to me that although I called countless times over a two-month period, begging someone to take out that money, all it took was a letter with a heading that stated it was from a lawyer to get that matter dealt with. I guess I'm not nearly as important as a lawyer, thus my attempts to settle everything always went unnoticed.
This was my first experience with a checking account. And since then, I've been weary about banks, even the Credit Union we currently bank at. And, this was definitely my first and last experience with US Bank. I have never in my life been so disrespected and been lied to so many times. I did receive a letter after they finally took out the money that "apologized for any inconvenience" with a impersonal typed out name of "Shelley **, Deposit Adjustments."
U.S. Bank is a terrible financial institution who will never care about their customers or the true "inconvenience" they afflict people with.

I leased a 2005 CRV for 4 years. I was never late. I was completely compliant with all the terms and conditions in the lease. The vehicle was in excellent condition and had only 14,000 miles. I turned the car in 4 days before the end of the lease, and about a week after, they sent their inspector to my home to check out the vehicle. I received a bill for $70 + tax to repair a small scratch on the driver side door. It could be easily buffed out, but they considered it excessive wear and tear. I drove the car all the time and I never noticed it.
I was also hit with a $395 contractual termination fee. The man I spoke with explained it to me as the extra payments I needed to make that apparently were not included in my monthly bill. This makes no sense. Nowhere is that listed as part of my lease, except on the back where it does not state what it is. I read it but they make it sound like it's part of the payment for wear and tear. I have an excellent credit rating. I did not buy a home above my means, and all of my bills are not only paid on time but often the moment I receive them in the mail.
I have spoken with other US Bank customers and they too are disgusted. We have a right to be angry when we, the taxpayers, just bailed out the banking industry. I also had a 5.9% Bank of America credit card go up to 14.99% until I called and complained. They "graciously" told me that it did not matter about my good standing, because it cost a lot more these days to run their bank. I was offered 10.9% for the rest of the balance of never use it again and keep the 5.9%. The card is now in teeny tiny pieces. I find myself leaning toward government control of this industry - socialism sounds better and better. My total bill was $503.54 which is almost half my biweekly check. I have been hit with home depreciation but increasing county taxes, increased utility bills, and credit card interest. I have no back up salary, and no one to support me if it all hits the fan.

I paid some on it even though I shouldn't have. Now they are trying to get more money from me. 1-800-US-Bank said they were in the wrong. I am disabled, in very bad health. They are stressing me out and I can't get legal help. Please call me! Thank you.

I went in on Sat 5/16 to deposit my payroll check as usual only to find out that my check was going to be held until Tues 5/19. So being aware of the fact that I had a couple of electronic drafts that were due to come out on Mon 5/18, I told the teller (Marissa) that I needed to know my balance to make sure I would have enough funds to cover the drafts. She told me that they were not live yet and therefore she could not give me the balance on my account. I told her that I should not be responsible for any overdrafts on the account because of the fact that they were holding my payroll and check and could not give me the balance. I told her several times in front of the old Downey Savings branch manager (Sheila) because I knew that when I came back on Tuesday to argue it, they would not honor it. Marissa told me to call the automated system to get my balance and go off of that and that if I became overdrawn, they would take care of it. Sure enough, I checked my acct on Tues 5/19 and there were three overdraft fees and only showed three charges pending. So I thought it was okay.
Well, I went to check it again today and I had six $35 overdrawn fees for items that were done with my visa/ATM as a credit over the weekend that instead of declining, they approved. Downey would have never done that. This is the way these people make their money. I told the branch supervisor there that I would pay what I charged but would not pay the overdraft fees and he refused to credit my account giving me the runaround and telling me that he needed his manager's approval. I then asked to close the account and make payment arrangements and he said he could not do that. I would have to wait for the account to close itself. So I said, "In the meantime, it will be charged $8 a day for being overdrawn," and he said he could not answer that. If this is what they have to do to get promoted and or keep their jobs, what a shame.

On May 16th, I was at urgent care with my daughter, who had pneumonia, and my debit card got turned down. Being pretty sure that I have money in the account, I called US Bank. They told me it was a hold because of fraud suspicion and put me on with that dept. I spoke with a woman who asked me to verify some pending charges that were suspicious. I verified 3 of the charges but told her that one of the charges (for $49.50) was made in error. It was a subscription that had been canceled and that charge was made in error. She stated that she would block it while I addressed it with the company.
From this point on, I am watching my account online or calling the 1-800 number to verify my balance daily. I never have a negative balance. I took two advances from US Bank, one on the 16th and one on the 18th for $240 apiece, both of which were immediately put into my available balance. I spent approx. $280. I used my debit card for everything so I was making numerous small purchases, anywhere from $1.00 to $15.00. From the balances on my online account, I should have approx. $200 balance. On the 19th, my card got declined. I went online and it showed that I was $340 overdrawn.
I got on the phone and it turned out the $50 charge I was told wouldn't go through did, which resulted in an overdraft charge, which resulted in 5 more overdrafts, and then eventually 7 more overdrafts for a $440 charge. US Bank says they can do nothing but if I clear up the $50 charge with the Vendor, they would waive the charges. I called the vendor; they credited my account (immediately) and gave me a vendor number to verify. I called the bank; they said they couldn't use my vendor number and they needed to wait until the credit posts before they can post anything which could take up to 5 days?!
I am a single mom and I have no money now, and no gas, friends are giving me rides. Meanwhile my charges are piling. It is not over $600. I went to my branch; they said they couldn't do anything. I explained that I was told that charge wouldn't go through. I have direct deposit so in 2 days, my paycheck will be deposited and I have 3 Auto pays going out the same day. With the $500 advance and the $600 plus overdrafts, my pay check will disappear and my auto pays will bounce. The Bank manager finally said he will reverse the fees but it will take 24-48 hours?
I have yet to see anything. Everyone I spoke to was rude and just awful. I have talked to several people who have had similar problems with US Bank. I will be closing my account but I hope something further can be done about them.

I bought a house and US Bank carried the loan. I had to re-sign the paperwork for the home loan 3 different times and each time, it was for different loan amounts. They would keep agreeing to terms and then come back and say we can't do it after I signed. I was finally able to get the terms of the loan resolved. After we moved in to the house, they wanted to change them again. I told them the next call I was going to make was to my attorney and I was going to sue them, and that was the end of that. They screwed the realtor out of her commission as well. The realtor worked her butt off dealing with these people to get the job done. It took 7 months till I moved in from the date they first took my offer. My realtor has over 20 years in her profession and stated she had never seen such incompetence.
So now I'm dealing with them, yet again I was laid off. I have requested their help in helping me to keep my home and keep it from foreclosure. I have received nothing but the runaround if I'm lucky enough to talk to anyone. They seem determined to do nothing other than foreclose on me. I sent in a form they gave me and it took 4 months for them to say, "Oh you don't qualify." I have savings from investments that, by the way, I lost thousands from because of the banks (thanks for that. Hope you enjoy my tax dollars as well) that I'm holding back. I had to be behind on my home payments to qualify for any program, of which I'm finding out it's just a joke and doesn't help the middle class that didn't overbuy or get an arm loan.

Deceptive reserve line program and outrageous overdraft charges - I am so frustrated and angry with US Bank for scamming me and, no doubt, thousands of other customers with your overdraft program. In May 2008, I opened a checking account on behalf of my disabled son since the Social Security Administration assigned me as his payee. I deposited his checks ($1,356 copy enclosed) immediately upon receipt since his rent was due by the 5th of the month. I kept all receipts and printed online statements in the event of an audit by SSA. When my son was given rights to his disability check, he opened an account with your bank and in the short time he had it, became so confused over his rent check being returned and all the bank fees charged for overdrafts. He always checked his balance with his debit card, but did not realize you were putting in overdraft funds. It cost him a lot of money. Pitiful!
On January 9, 2009, my son and I went to the branch and met with the customer service manager, Stephanie **, to try and understand how my son's account got so out of hand. (See his statement enclosed that she marked up for clarity.) Based on Stephanie's ludicrous explanations, my son closed his account and I closed mine as well. Starting about February, I began receiving harassing daily calls from your collection agents asking for a payment to my reserve account and that I had some ridiculous balance. I told them my account was closed on January 9 by the branch manager and I had no idea what they were talking about since I knew I was never overdrawn. They could never explain to me why I was given $200 and, if so, why it was not paid back at the time I closed my account. I was continuously denied the number and address to your customer service. Finally, one day I lucked out. Hence, my letter.
So, after going back to my files and pulling the enclosed account print out, I went to see Stephanie once again on March 3, 2009 for an explanation. She pulled up my records and tried to tell me I was overdrawn on August 4, 2009 and that was why the $200 reserve was added. How was this missed when I closed my account? I challenge you to look at the transactions of Aug. 4 and explain to me how I was overdrawn, especially depositing a US Treasury check (copy enclosed)! I asked Stephanie to figure up what balance was owed to repay the $200. I paid the $75 balance less all of the fees and late charges you continue to charge for an advance that wasn't required in the first place!
I am still receiving daily harassing calls from your telemarketers currently asking for $99 in fees ($20 a month plus finance charges) and that they will be reporting me to the credit bureaus. I believe you have discovered quite a cash cow moving your banking and customer service into a full time Reserve Line Business. I dispute these erroneous charges and respectfully ask that you remove them and close my account immediately.

I have been a client of US Bank for several years now. Up until just recently, all service seemed well. For the past couple of years, it was convenient for me to make my deposits in the Boyle Heights bank location down the street from my office. I cannot remember a single time that my checks were held. If they were, I never noticed and here is why. I tend to pay most my bills with my debit ATM card. What I am certain of is that if I would try to withdraw funds and the funds were not there. My transaction would always be declined. I began depositing my checks at a location in Glendale, CA.
Sometime in late March or early April, I was overdrawn for about 24 hours on my account. This is not something that happens often. When I made the deposit, the teller informed me that, "because I was overdrawn, only a portion would be released and the rest the next morning." Again, everything seemed fair. On May 4th, 2009, I ended up $6.15 overdrawn. That afternoon, I deposited nearly $1000 into the account. Assuming the same procedure took place, I figured $100 would be released.
That same evening, I used my debit card for 5 separate transactions - $100 cash, $16 or so at Home Depot, $30 at the supermarket, and a couple small others. I was shocked when I looked at my account on the 7th and saw 10(!), yes 10, overdraft charges of $37.50 each! I figured this had to be in error. I emailed the bank immediately and went into my local branch Monday morning to get the same response. I was told that my money wasn't released but they paid these items as a courtesy. These were not checks! These were debit transactions that if the funds were not there, should have simply been declined. For instance, if I did not deposit the $1000 check on May 4th, and my balance was $6 negative, the card simply would not go through.
But since I deposited a check for $1000, their system holds funds, then "pays" your debit card ... and then hits you with a $37.50 fee?! This seems unfair. I admit, I did not ever see that in any forms when I opened my account. It certainly was never explained. Now the bank refuses to remove the fees and is also charging $8 per day. I just was able to save my home from foreclosure and now this. I feel that these are excessive fees to the consumer on top of all the other junk fees they choose to add.

The inspector they sent out delayed the inspection 9 days and the report and bill were not available until after the car was turned in. The pictures do not match US Bank's Wear and Tear Guidelines. I am an automobile dealer and my customer had chosen to get her financing through this branch. I had spoken with the loan officer several times, during which she told me the loan was approved and I could bring the title to her for a check. When I got down there, she (Rita) said that although the loan was approved, the customer would need to sign the papers before a check would be cut. Fine I guess, but why did they say I could come now? Anyway, I gave them the title, signed off, which in the car world is basically as good as money.
The next day, my client goes in to sign papers, at which point she was told she was not approved for the amount. The exact same amount they had told us both she was approved for, even showing me their computer screen with the correct amount. They then tried to get my client to open several accounts she did not want, in order to secure the financing for a lesser amount. Needless to say she left. However, this is the good part: the bank then releases the signed-off title to the customer. Unbelievable! I put in a call to the manager (Jose), who said he would call me back, and of course he never did. Luckily, my customer was a joy to deal with and would not do anything malicious such as title the car in her name without paying for it. However, the liability was there. This bank flat-out lied to me and behaved extremely unprofessional.

By this time, all I had was one pending transaction. That same evening, I deposited money into the account resulting into a positive balance. Thinking all was well, I logged into my account the following day to find I had been charged two more overdraft charges. I called customer service again and the lady I talked to provided pathetic customer service. All she could do was waive one fee. I have had enough. I went to the branch bank and closed the account. A customer of US Bank for about 3 years, I have progressively noticed a problem with their customer service and handling of overdrafts. I am a college student with very limited income. As of current, the credit markets have been in horrible shape, limiting the amount of supplemental loans I can obtain for living expenses. For the entire school year, I have been living off part-time paychecks at a retail outlet scraping by. Recently, my account was overdrawn by a few dollars, either a simple mistake, or resulting from the bank's constant effort to alter your payment postings and screw you with overdrafts.
This small error turned into a catastrophe. They swallowed my entire paycheck. I have nothing to live off - no food, gas, or money for rent this month. As of today, the bank has charged a total of 22 overdraft charges amounting to about $825 just in the last 5 days. I haven't even used my account for a week and I'm getting bombarded with overdrafts every day! I stopped in the bank - they won't do a thing, won't even reverse one charge! They actually told me the bank does not profit from this, and proceeded to blame me for everything. I'm sure. With good faith, I can live up to maybe 2 overdrafts, but 22? Are you kidding?
This is absolutely ludicrous. This corporation is a bunch of crooks! I am considering court over this, and I am already in the process of switching banks. Five star customer service guarantee? False. They have been consistently rude to me and have zero consideration for my situation. Their reputation is growing worse because of situations like this and I hope to see them go down in flames as a result of their shady business practices.

The guy looked up my account and told me he added my $50. I went shopping, actually believing that he did add $50 and so I had it to spend. US Bank, however, did not recognize the deposit and began charging me overdraft fees and daily overdraft charges, etc. At one point, it totaled $120.
I have no idea what has happened since. Calls were not returned, and there are endless denials that the teller actually deposited this money. After which I began shopping in the Safeway store where the US Bank was located. Many more details and convolutions could be added, but the essence was that I was told $50 was added, and apparently it wasn't, allowing them to charge all sorts of bogus charges. Instead of attempting to straighten it out, I just got a blank wall and meaningless apologies because nothing changed.
I am completely disgusted and feel completely betrayed by this company. They offered the penalty of my not being able to open other accounts. Why would I want anything to do with US Bank ever again? Plus, they've apparently bought Downey Savings with whom I planned more business; guess not! America does not need this kind of sniveling shabby treatment from such a shoddy bank. My husband and I applied for a loan modification for our adjustable ARM loan. We qualify because we have had a severe drop in our income due to a job loss. We gathered all of the necessary and required papers, but alas, we were denied! Guess why? Because we didn't meet their delinquency rules. Yes, you have to be delinquent on your mortgage in order to qualify for a loan modification. But wait! You say, what about all that TARP money and the banks who took that money? Don't they have to help us? Well guess what? There's a loophole in my case.
In my case, Downey (our mortgage holder) was taken over or bought by US Bank. US Bank took TARP money, so you would think they would be bound by the TARP rules. But they aren't. They claim that since Downey didn't take TARP money, the Downey customers basically aren't afforded the same consideration as a US Bank customer. They also tell me that Downey no longer exists, but we still make our checks out to Downey. Also, the letter telling us we were turned down because we aren't delinquent? It came on US Bank letterhead in a US Bank envelope. Sounds to me like they are having their cake and eating it too.
We can reapply for a modification in August, which will be 9 months before our loan resets to its permanent new high. Meanwhile, we are spending half of my disability income every month on a mortgage payment. My husband is unemployed and has had to go back to school to figure out a new career. We did not buy a house we couldn't afford and we've lived here 21 years. We want to pay for our home and we don't want to lose it. I think it's really scary that these banks are being allowed to use loopholes to avoid helping people like us. We're middle class, not behind on our mortgage (but that may soon change) and want to stay in our home; and we have no intention of filing for bankruptcy. We were sold a really bad loan product like a lot of other Americans.

I received a work transfer after living in my home for 9 years. I immediately placed the home on the market for sale, but due to the economic crash, I wanted to rent my house since I couldn't sell it. As soon as US Bank received my change of address, they immediately sent me a letter indicating that I was violating the terms of my mortgage by not residing in the home and if I didn't provide a good reason, they could call the loan due and payable and foreclose. I sent them a response with my situation and they granted me a 6-month vacancy.
When I indicated that I wanted to rent the home and asked if I needed to send them any documentation (AZ requires you register the home with the assessor’s office), US Bank said I could not rent the home and they could foreclose if I did. I explained to US Bank that if I couldn't rent the home, I would not be able to continue to make payments. I was using my line of credit to maintain the payments and property. US Bank continued to threaten to foreclose if I rented. I submitted in writing a request to rent the property, supported by FHA guidelines, but received no response from US Bank. Although I called them numerous times, they never once returned a call or responded to any written requests. I requested to speak to loss mitigation, refinancing, etc. US Bank would not work with me at all.
In February of 2008, my line of credit was frozen and I no longer had the means to pay the mortgage, therefore, I did not make a payment beginning in March. As I have a legal plan available at work, I sent my mortgage contract to several attorneys for review. All have agreed that US Bank has been incorrect in their statements about the terms of the mortgage. I am not violating an occupancy clause and I can rent the property. (I can't rent right now because I no longer have the resources to maintain the property or make payments if the tenants fail to pay.) As far as I'm concerned, US Bank has been lying about the terms of my mortgage in an effort to force foreclosure because I have an FHA loan. If I default, they file a claim and get the entire loan amount. I do not see any other reason why they would refuse to respond to my various requests, repeatedly send me harassing letters that I'm violating a non-existent occupancy clause, and threaten to call the loan due and payable (foreclose).
In addition, I find it interesting that they finally called me when I was past due and that now there are late fees. It appears they refuse to assist to force you to be late, and then collect fees - an unethical way to do business. Due to US Bank's negligence in misstating the terms of my mortgage and forcing me into a position in which I can no longer make payments, I have lost over $20,000 in rent, paid over $3,000 in fees to maintain the property which would have been borne by the tenant, and lost over $14,000 of payments to my line of credit which would have been made if I could have rented the property. I have also suffered damage to the property by vandalism since it is empty, which is the result of US Bank not allowing me to rent.

When his business started to falter, we had no money coming in. Three of our accounts overdrew but by a few dollars. When we finally got the statements, we owed a total of $2,720.96 to US Bank. The total deposits we made from January to March were over $3000. The total amount of fees that US Bank charged us was over that. Currently, our accounts have been charged off.
When we tried to settle the account, I received a very nasty response from the customer service rep I spoke with. Our bank manager told us that they typically will settle for 40% of the total debt. When I spoke to this man, he told me several things. At first, he said they could settle for 40% of the total, then he said 35% of the total. Then when I said we could actually pay 35% of the total, he told me that it was not 35% of the total to settle for but a 35% discount.
Prior to the charge offs, US Bank in Dec. of 2007 took $2000 from our account (it disappeared). If I had not kept the receipts that the teller gave me, we never would have gotten our money back. During the 2 weeks it took us to get our money back, we incurred overdraft charges of nearly $600. In Sept. 2007, I was still working and received direct deposit. I had close to $1,600 directly deposited into our account 2 times a month. My boyfriend had approximately the same in direct deposit. However, US Bank would accept our funds, then when we used the money to pay our bills, they would charge us overdraft fees. We calculated the fees and they were over $1000 for one month. How much did we overdraw? $0.00. The only reason we were overdrawn was because US Bank kept charging us fees.
At this point, our credit is completely ruined. We have no way of paying the $2,720.96 to US Bank. They want us to make payments to them, but we don't even owe that amount of money. We tried to settle for 35% of the total debt. When we agreed to the 35% of the total we accepted and then the offer was quickly rescinded and I was told it was my fault for opening an account. I told the man that I knew of fees but that the fees the bank charges are excessive. He replied, "Well, honey, you signed the contracts when you opened the account. You knew our policies." I never would have opened an account with a bank if I knew that we would have had to pay them nearly $6000 in fees in the 3 years we have had these accounts.

US Bank granted me a checking account advance in the amount of $500.00 until my next direct deposit; at which time the $500.00 will be repaid to US Bank, along with an additional fee of $50.00. My US Banking account online allows me to make this advance. On April 1, 2009, it was a Wednesday afternoon and I requested the advance of $500.00 into my checking account. I knew I would need this advance since I had more expenses that I needed to pay. The amount then transferred into my checking. Before the advance, the balance was $855.00.
After the advance, the balance was $1,355.00. I checked this account the evening of April 1, 2009 and the balance was at $1355.00. I was on a field trip for the next two days with students. On April 3, I checked my account and to my horror, my checking account indicated I was minus $655.00. I immediately called US Bank and was told that the advance was never done. I tried to tell them what the situation was, but they said they could not help me. I called several times over the next two days, but could not get anyone to listen to my situation. I have since checked my balance and it is now at minus $955.00. I have not written any more checks or taken any deposits. The amount grew due to overdrafts on the account. I feel this was very dishonest of US Bank to do this to me.
I'm a single parent and for the next two paychecks, I won't be able to pay my bills or pay for food on the table. On April 1-6, 2009, I have contacted customer service and the branch in Mesa where I opened my account. I tried to talk to Dave and he was very rude and would not help me. I believe more customers have experienced this with US Bank. Lastly, I have paid all the overdrafts and my account is now in the positive. However, Dave promised to credit my account two overdraft credits. It is April 15 and he still has not completed the credits he promised.

This is for my daughter. Her husband banks at US Bank in Fairfield, Iowa. Recently, they had an overdraft on their checking account. They were charged the usual $37.00 overdraft fee, but they are charged this same fee every day there is a negative balance. Also, they are charged a negative balance fee of $8.00. My daughter put $500.00 in the account and is still at a negative $70.00, which means they will be charged $37.00 a day until next week - when her husband's check is direct deposited. His hours have been cut way back, so now every dime will be gone to pay these excessive overdraft charges and they will be going without food, phone and probably now no lights. I have helped all I am able to but I am on a fixed income. I feel like they are just being victimized. What, if anything, can be done to stop this? Please help! I'm begging as a mom who loves her daughter and grandson so much, and hate seeing them have to suffer like this.

I received notice that my US Bank Visa was sent to US Bank’s own collections department, and I would no longer be receiving any bills. I contacted US Bank to discuss my payments. I also received a notice that if I paid at least $500.00 towards my Visa credit card, that I would receive a $500.00 credit toward late fees, etc. I was able to pay off my credit card in full, for much larger than the $500.00. Yet US Bank refuses to give me the $500.00 credit as per the letter they sent me. Miss **, who I contacted, said because I paid off my balance owed (over $12,000), that they (US Bank) weren't going to give me the $500.00 credit (even though the US Bank paper states that if I made my payment prior to June 2009, I would receive this credit towards my account). Pretty much that is fraud.
This was a deception letter used to obtain funds, with a fraudulent statement. I contacted the Department of Justice in my state, and they sent me a letter thanking me for my complaint and let US Bank know that I complained. Nothing has happened, and US Bank still refuses to provide me with the $500.00 credit that was offered. How many other people have been scammed by this letter?

I got a postcard in the mail today from US BANK stating that I was overdrawn by 0.90 cents and that I needed to pay $35 in an overdraft charge. So, I'm thinking, whatever...I guess I'm in the wrong and I'll just pay it... That's when I logged onto my bank account to see that my account is actually -$105. So I come to grips with this and start looking down the list of expenses. On 3/20, I had $31.11 in my account. The same day, I make a charge that goes through for $3.90, bringing my account to $27.21. Then an overdraft charge hits my account (YES, while it is positive) and sends it into the negative, charging me two more overdraft charges on two things that would have only left my account -90 cents.
LET ME PUT THIS INTO PERSPECTIVE. You have $27 in your account with 2 charges pending. One charge is for $26.08, and the 2nd charge is for $2.03. If these charges were deducted from the $27.21 it would leave the account at -90 cents. INSTEAD, BEFORE the $26.08 was even deducted from the $27.21 that was in the account, the overdraft charge hit the account, forcing it to go negative and to accrue an additional 2 overdraft charges. THIS IS BAD BUSINESS. They refuse to refund my money and are seeing if I qualify for a reserve line, which they will divert the charges into if I do. This is beside the point. I don't mind paying $35 for the overdraft, but to blatantly restructure the priority of overdrafts versus charges to best benefit the bank is absolutely outrageous. I WILL TAKE THIS BANK TO COURT OVER THIS.

I, very recently, opened a checking account with US Bank. This was not my primary account, but an additional account for fun money. I had some difficulty setting up my online access and was unable to check the balance of the account on a regular basis. I was out shopping and swiped my card hoping that I had sufficient funds to cover everything. This, as an FYI, was an $8 purchase. The transaction was accepted and I went on my way. A few days later, I received an overdraft notice in the mail with a service fee attached, which brought the overdraft up to about $25. At the time, I did not have available funds to fix the problem and just figured I would take care of the next payday.
What I didn't know was that in the meantime, my account was being charged an additional overdraft fee of $8 per day. When I went to the bank, my account was in the hole a grand total of $127.41. Needless to say, they made a nice hefty sum of money off my small error. What I don't understand is why the transaction was not denied. Any other card transaction that I have ever had tells me if there is a problem with the account (i.e. insufficient funds).

On December 4th, I have received an email notification from US Bank that my address on the checking and money market account has been changed, and if this is not correct, I need to come in to the branch. I left my work and went to the Rosemont location (9575 W. Higgins Rd Rosemont, IL 60018, phone number: 847-318-6300) and talked to the branch manager, **. I explained my situation and told him to close the account as soon as possible, even though some transactions are still pending. I was told that it will take up to 48 hours for the system to close this account. I advised him to close it so I can have this issue resolved by the end of the week.
Few weeks later, I called the customer service about my checking account and was told it is still open. She advised me to go to the branch and take care of this again, which I did, and again I was told it will take up to 48 hours. I placed numerous phone calls to the customer service department, went to the branches a few times, and every single time I was told a different thing. All I wanted is to close my checking account. I was finally promised it will be closed the same week.
Today is March 23, 2009; four months later, and my checking account is still open. I just received a statement from the US Bank saying my ending balance on the account is $0.28. I truly don't know what to do anymore. I called customer service so many times and visited the branches a few times, and talked to many people at the US Bank, but no one is able to close my account. I wonder how hard it is to close the checking account. On top of that, US Bank never apologized for anything. I have been a US Bank customer for over six years, but I will never do any business with this institution again. Very bad and ignorant customer service!!!

On 03/04/2009, I went inside US Bank and made a $50 withdrawal and my balance was $104.46... At least that is what my check book balanced out. A couple of days later, I received an overdraft letter in the mail. Their records said something different. They gave me a printout and it shows that I was overdrawn at the time I went in and made a counter withdrawal (of -35.74). I called their customer service line and they seem to not able to figure it out so they then told me to go into the branch where I started my account and talk to the person to see what was going on.
I asked the teller to explain and she really didn't understand and I then asked the supervisor... Her exact word were, "I can't tell you anything different than she just told you'.' She then told me that she couldn't do anything about it the, the era and overdraft charge but she would give a printout to her manager that was not in that day and wouldn't be returning until the next day. I called the next day to see what they came up with being that every day US Bank was charging me $35 a day in overdraft fees... He said that I should have been notified when I went inside to make a withdrawal that my account was overdrawn and he would reimburse me 2 of 7 overdraft fees $35 fees.
The reason I was overdrawn was because US Bank bulked purchases that were made on later dates... So in other words, my account started a negative balance on 03-04-2009 even though I had a positive balance of $85.46, US Bank bulk charge of $86.21 + the teller withdrawal of $50... When I say bulk, I really mean bulk... and this really has me confused... So I will explain and maybe you guys can better help me... On 03-03, there was a hold of $6.97 and it was paid out on 03-04. On 03-04, a hold went out for a gas purchase of $22.24 was paid out on 03-05. On 03-04, $49.07 paid out on 03-06... On 03-05, $22.64 was put on hold and on 03-06 paid out... On 03-05, $9.98 was put on hold... On 03-06, it was paid out... On 03-04, $3.52 was on hold and on 03-06 it was paid out... And that's the order that is printed out and the bulked charge was $9.98, $49.07, $22.64, $3.52, $1.00... It was all charged at once on 03-04-2009.

I was working in Nampa, ID in a Job Corps program. The program limits how much off-campus travel you can undertake. I also did not have a car at that time. While there, I asked my stepdad, who lived in Colbert, WA outside of Spokane, to deposit $40 into my account at US Bank. The account was opened at the Millwood Branch at the address above. Unbeknownst to me, he only deposited $31. When I used the local ATM to withdraw $40, it told me there were insufficient funds, which I presumed was incorrect as my dad was putting in the $40. I had heard nothing from him that would suggest that had not happened.
Given our isolation at Job Corps, this was not surprising. According to the bank's statement, the ATM withdrawal was for $42, which seems strange since I understood I could only take money out in $20 increments. The ATM fee was $2.00 for a total withdrawal cost of $44 or $13 ($31 - $44) over what should have been available. I did not know the bank would allow you to take out money you did not have. I'm now 20 years old and this is the first account I have ever had.
The withdrawal was made on April 14th, 2008. US Bank charged an Overdraft Charge of $19 the next day or April 15th, 2008. This was followed by a series of Continuous Overdraft Fees charged over several days at $8 per fee. This was charged on April 17, April 18, April 22, April 23, April 24, April 25, April 29, April 30, May 1, May 2, May 6, May 7, May 8, May 9, May 13, May 14, May 15, May 16, May 20, May 21, and May 22. Additionally, they charged Continuous Overdraft Fees of $24 on April 21, April 28, May 5, May 12 and May 19. The final fee, which they called the Force-Closed Account Fee was for $30 on May 28. In summary I was charged 21 fees of $8 ($168 total) plus 1 original overdraft fee of $19 plus 5 fees of $24 ($120) plus 1 close out fee of $30 for a grand total of $337 in fees for a $13 overdraft in 6 weeks, which I figure is somewhere in the range of 225% interest rate.
I would think this could be called involuntary, predatory lending. The account was formerly closed by the bank on May 28, 2008, while I was still at Job Corps and could not come back to Spokane to fix the situation. Since returning to Spokane, I have moved in with a local family that is trying to help me get my life going again with a bank account, getting a job, paying off my car, helping me get health insurance and other life steps. My foster mom, program director for a local community center, has offered to be my protective payee and help with cleaning up my financial record and handling my paychecks.
When we went into the bank to negotiate a lower settlement, we were informed that they could do nothing, that it was a function of the computer software and it had been turned over to a collection agency. Nearly a year later, I have not been contacted by any collection agency. The bank said the only way we could fix it would be to pay the $349 outstanding. I work 1/2 time at Taco Bell, a local fast food restaurant, and don't have enough money to pay it off. Furthermore, I was in a car accident three years ago and am trying to raise money for necessary physical therapy. I was living with my parents then and they didn't think I needed to see a doctor, so nothing was done. I now have both spinal and neck problems that are both limiting in motion and painful.

Three days later, I wrote a check for $50, knowing that I would get one overdraft fee but it was for my Kid's Healthcare so it's well worth it. US Bank pended all of my out of state transactions until they could strike! Then they reorganized the order of the payments so that the check came out first even though it was written 3 days after everything else causing $210 in overdraft fees; most of them on $4-$8 transactions. I called the bank and they won't refund because it is not Bank Error.
I explained that their system reorganized the payments so they could get the most overdraft fees out of me. They replied with, "Well, you should not have written that check then." Basically, they are a predator looking for legal ways to prey on the average American. Their customer service is very rude and their banking methods are only there to steal from the innocent. RE: OVERDRAFT CHARGES. I deposited my unemployment check today and asked the teller to provide me with the available balance, which she did. The available balance is $103.32. The POLTROONS held onto the remaining balance of my check. A couple of hours passed and I transferred $75 to my significant other's account to pay for my half of our grocery bill. I checked my account online and noticed that the available balance was posted. I again checked my checking online and noticed that there was a -$70 some dollars and my ending balance before the deposit was $3 and change.
At 7:02 pm (PST), I called the 24-hour customer service number and spoke with Chad. I questioned Chad as to the negative $70 something showing and what was the bank going to do about it. Chad stated, “We are going to charge an overdraft because of the -$70 something.” That’s when steam blew from my head. I went off on Chad and questioned how was my account negative when I had made the deposit, asked the teller to give me the available balance and had enough funds to charge the $75. He said I had made the transfer before the deposit. BLATANT LIE. I told him that I'm aware of US Bank's shady policies and practices and this was definitely one of them.
I asked for the phone number to file a consumer complaint against the bank and he proceeded to give me the phone number to my local bank which I said, “Don't bother. I can look that up on line.” I again checked my account online and noticed that the POLTROONS listed my deposit after I had made the transfer which was not the course of events. I have been cheated out of my unemployment money as a result of this type of practice US Bank conducts.

I have a joint checking account with my son who is attending school in another part of the state. Back in Aug '08, my son's debit card was stolen and used resulting in over $900 in fraudulent charges. We reported the stolen card right away and had it shut down. They had my son go into the branch and sign affidavits so they could be faxed to the fraud dept. That day, they lost the fax! So my son went back in to sign more but this time, they failed to give him all the affidavits because they said some had gone through the first time! Come to find out, the fraud dept did NOT receive all the proper affidavits. So a third time, my son went back to sign the ones that were missed. After US Bank investigated, they did determine the charges were fraudulent and "approved the fraud claim". In the meantime, the negative balance fees and overdraft fees piled up like crazy! I asked if they could just shut down the entire account while they were processing the claim but they said they could not close an account as long as it had a negative balance.
A month later, they DID refund the account with the $900 in fraud charges but had NOT put back the $725 in overdraft fees that the fraud charges had caused. I fought with them on the phone at least twice a week for the next 3 months to get the overdraft fees refunded. They said that they had to go through "each fee" with a fine tooth comb to make sure that none of them was related to any charges we had made and that the fees were indeed a result from the fraud charges. They said that I did NOT need to keep calling them because it would soon be taken care of and then they would close the account. Finally, on Dec. 22 '08, they DID close the account. I was relieved that the whole mess was over... but I was wrong! Neither my son nor myself received anything regarding the account after it was closed.
Last week, my husband and I received our Tax Refund via automatic deposit. I transferred the funds online from our checking to our savings. The next day, Feb. 17 '09, when I logged on to our accounts, I found that US Bank had taken $725 from my savings account! I could not believe what was happening. I called right away and they gave me the runaround about how we owed them because the account still had a negative balance. I had to explain the whole story from the beginning to several agents who would NOT let me speak directly to the fraud dept. Finally, I was able to talk to someone in the Recovery dept and they said it was because one of the fraud charges was never filed on and had still accumulated fees. I asked why we were never notified that there was still a problem. I asked why they had closed the account with a negative balance when they had repeatedly told me they could NOT do that. I got NO answers... They could not explain why they never contacted us or why they closed the account.
Now again, they said my son need to go back to the branch and file an affidavit on the missed charge. My son did just that on Feb. 12 '09. I called the next Monday to make sure that they had received it. Then they told me that they were not sure why my son filled that affidavit out because that one had been claimed a long time ago! I yelled at them on the phone, "BECAUSE YOU GUYS JUST TOLD ME TO HAVE HIM GO BACK AND FILE ON THE CHARGE THAT WAS MISSED!" The gal just said, "Well, whoever told you guys to do that was mistaken." So I asked to speak to a supervisor but they would not allow me to do that. The next day, I was able to contact a "Lead" person in Card services who did some research and found that yes, a fraud charge "was indeed" missed. So he asked that my son go and fill out yet another affidavit which he did on Wednesday. As of now, they have refunded my savings account $401 but will not tell me where my other $325 is that they took. They now say that this matter has been signed off on and they can't discuss this matter with me further!
Needless to say, I am closing all our accounts with US Bank and will never do business with them again. From the very beginning, there has been a complete LACK of professionalism on their part! They have lost faxes, missed charges and mishandled this case to the point that THEY THEMSELVES can't even tell what is what! Every time you call, you are forced to speak with a different person so you have to explain everything from the beginning! They have several depts and it's like the "left hand does not know how the right hand operates!" They have treated us like "WE" are the ones trying to swindle them! Moral of the story is DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH US BANK!

Recently I received a letter from US Bank stating that my interest rate was being increased. I have never defaulted, paid 2-3 days late probably 5 times in 25 years because I forgot to mail the bill out, and have an excellent credit score of over 800. The letter states that the increase has nothing to do with my personal credit situation. Since the Federal Reserve prime rate has gone down, I feel there is no reason for the increase other than greed.
I called US Bank and there is NEVER a supervisor available to speak with. They only say they will call me back... and then don't. Please understand that my approach has been painfully pleasant and that I'm not acting like an irate customer. My other gripe is that my VISA bill is mailed to me so late every month that it is impossible to mail it in within the due date. They recommend 10 days before the due date but I usually receive it a week before it's due. I have resorted to paying it personally at a branch in order to assure that it's on time.

I have never been late making a mortgage payment, so I proceeded to try to make my first mortgage payment to them about one week before the due date of February 1. I have always used our Money Market Account (with another bank) for the mortgage payments, so I tried to set up the information for that account, only to find after completing the enrollment form, that they can't take money from a Money Market Account...as stated on their website.
So, I called them to find out how I could enable this transaction on the internet. After much discussion, I finally opted to just send them a check. This was on January 29. So, I wrote out a check and put it in the mail after transferring the proper amount to our checking account from the Money Market Account. But, alas! On February 9, the mortgage payment had been taken from our Money Market Account, after all. I also noticed on the U.S. Bank website that our account showed a payment had been made on Jan. 29 - unknown to me. I called them, and after a lengthy wait, 5-10 min., I was able to finally speak to a human being, and was told I had made a payment on Jan. 29, by way of the telephone.
I was emphatic that no such payment had been made by phone by me or anyone else. And I pointed out to them that they had taken a payment from my Money Market Account when their website stated they couldn't. In the meantime, I put a stop payment on the check I had mailed to them and called them telling them of this, and was told they would mail the check back to me when it arrived. Somehow, or other, three payments to them was noticed on their Account Activity page of their site. And it said our next payment would be due on April 1, 2009. If that were truly the case, and it wasn't, then my next payment shouldn't be due till May 1, 2009. What planet are these people on? A few days later, there were 3 checks returned noted on the Activity page... Remember, I wrote only one check. I think it is finally straightened out, as my next payment is due March 1, 2009... but not with them.

I'm tired of being taken advantage of by this bank. They fail to see when they are wrong but they are quick to take what is rightfully yours. I'm so upset. I have spent two days trying to argue with the customer service over this and they are not helpful. I called yesterday which was President's Day so I had to wait until today to call the branch manager so he could tell me he was late to a meeting, not to mention after he made me wait on hold for 10 minutes. Okay, well here is my story. I received direct deposit into my checking and transferred the money to my savings. So I had $150 in my checking and more than enough in my savings. I went to the mall to purchase some things and I used my ATM card, not the checking. Two totally different cards with two different PINs. So I use this savings account card but I logged on Monday to my checking account and saw I'm overdrawn $451. What? I never used my checking.
So I called up the bank and they said I'm not supposed to use my ATM? I thought anywhere they took ATM or the logos in the back I was okay to use. So now, I have to see how I'm wrong to use my money in savings. No way. I asked so if I'm not supposed to use my savings, why didn't it decline? How is it that you didn't transfer the money from my savings to checking instead of overdrawing me? They're not linked, she said. Oh but they are linked so you can overdraw my checking because I used my savings? It makes no sense. How is it I have to pay $300 in overdraft fees when I had more than enough in the savings? These people in the customer service think we owe them something. They're rude. I told her I'm not asking her to give me anything for free. I'm asking you to tell me why you can link my account to overdraw me for using my savings but you couldn't transfer the money?
Besides, there was no need for the transfer. I had money in the savings and if anything, the card should have declined. So I got upset and told them I want their email address for corporate. I want to file an official complaint. So this girl said I can't email. I have to mail it in. Oh, I'm guessing this letter will get lost in the mail. There has to be something more that we all can do. Why do I have to give them any of my money if I had enough in my account? I called a different branch and this gentleman, Thayne ** of the Culver City branch, offered to reverse 5 fees. Five? I had 8. I shouldn't have to give this bank $112.50. So I'm definitely seeking any legal advice because I'm tired of them taking advantage of us their customers. I read the stories and a lot of these, we the customers are right.

My complaint is concerning US Bank online banking services. For more than a year, there has been a problem with their online banking service. I call at least twice a month due to computer glitches. One day, I will have a specific balance and, then the next day, it is a totally different view of charges and credits that did not match the day before. Today, the co-manager at my local US Bank told me that he receives so many complaints from customers about US Bank online computer glitches. If you google US Bank Complaints, there are volumes of complaints all over the Internet. How can this bank get away with this criminal act? I am writing my California Attorney General and hope a lawsuit will be filed. I have included my local branch information above.

I deposited a $684 check from the State of CA. I am on unemployment as I lost my job the first of the year. I was not overdrawn at this time. I was not told that US Bank was going to hold my state check for 5 business days. I wasn't even told that when you deposit that, the deposit is not available until the next day. I am a new customer. I set up my bill pay and tried to access my money via my debit card and was continually declined. I called customer service and was not told that there was a hold on my check, just that the funds would be available until the next day after the deposit. The funds were not available, so I went into the bank branch (Safeway Store) to see what was wrong. I was still not told about the hold, but the teller did say I was occurring charges; and she would check on it and have the manager call me the next day. The manager never called.
I called the following Monday and was told that there was no one in charge, and the manager was on vacation for two weeks. I went to another branch and spoke to that manager. She tried to assist me by getting them to call me back. US Bank refunded only $100 of the overdraft fees and the negative balance fees out of $503.00. If I had been told about the hold, I would have never overdrafted; and therefore would not have a negative balance. I find that this blatant violation of the FDIC law Title VI. Is there any recourse for this situation? Since I am unemployed and desperately looking for work without much luck, I can't afford to have $503 taken from my account. I now can't pay my bills and buy groceries or gasoline to go out to look for work. My landlord is pushing to get paid, and I don't have it to pay her. I am on a tight rope, and it's about to break due to this incident.

I had opened an HAAS account via US Bank so that I can help pay for my daughter's confirmation. I was paying it off as much as I could, to the point where I had nearly paid it off. I then get an email stating that due to a credit report (which was an old report), they had lowered my limit so that I would be over the limit. I then started getting charged $39 a day for constantly being over. I would call up the bank requesting this to be remedied. I was told they will look into it. Two weeks later, I get letters stating that since my credit wasn't good, they were keeping to their original decision.
In months to come, I would not use the card and started paying twice a month to show good faith. Recently, they raised my APR to an outrageous 27.5% because I was over the limit. I replied that since their finance charges were more than what I was paying per month, this was robbery on their part. If I was showing good faith in making regular payments, why would they incur more debt against me? I wish I could see justice in this. I would like for some sort of government agency to go after US Bank and other bank credit cards who attack us, the consumer, to the point that our credit is ruined, thanks to them. I find it nearly impossible to pay off the card. I do not know what else I can do.

US Bank is ripping people off when they turn in their lease vehicles. It has happened to me and many people I've found on the websites. My 2004 VW Jetta was turned in to a dealership on January 5, 2009, after I had paid over $21,000 in lease payments over the last 5 years. The car was turned in in excellent shape and I even have pictures to prove it. US Bank is charging me over $1,800 in excess wear and tear charges. They have sent me an inspection report, which contradicts the actual state of the car. In addition, they had their independent inspector take pictures (that I'm positive one of the pictures isn't even of my car that they're charging over $900 for).
Are their inspectors receiving a portion of what they collect? If I were at fault, I would admit it but this is ridiculous. We have had many leases in our family and never have dealt with a crooked bank such as US Bank. It's not enough to receive a 5-year-old car back that they could sell, let alone be paid over $21,000 over the course of the 5 years. The car had less than 60,000 miles when it was returned.

I have used the US Bank Bill Pay for several years without a problem. This month, I scheduled my mortgage payment for 1/22, my payday. US Bank sent the check to my mortgage company too early and they tried to cash it before 1/22 and it was returned for insufficient funds. I called US Bank and sat on hold for 6 minutes till a customer service person could speak to me. I started to tell her what happened and she interrupted me to tell me I had to speak to the Bill Pay department. I was put on hold for another 6 minutes. I talked to John of the Bill Pay dept. He explained that the mortgage company should not have cashed the check early since it had the 1/22 date on it.
In all of the info on the US Bank website, it states that checks for Bill Pay take four days to reach the biller. But US Bank decided this time to send my mortgage check six days ahead of time. He had no apology but promised I would not be charged any NSF fees. I looked at my online account info today and I have indeed been charged two NSF fees. He then tried to talk me into refinancing my mortgage with US Bank! I don't think so. I won't be using their Bill Pay anymore. It sounds like a scam. They sent my check too early and now I have to pay two NSF fees to them for their mistake.

On 1/13, another 2 NSF fees were applied. Apparently, cash deposit did not clear yet. An additional $8 was charged for each day of no funds fees. If my cash deposit was applied correctly, there would have been no NSF fees even if they did process the check a day early. I was told by Katrina that cash deposits are like checks through the ATM and do not get applied instantly. I understand that but how many days does it take to process a cash deposit and why did they process a check early? Katrina told me not unless I came into the bank to open a savings account or sign up for check protection would they reverse the NSF charges. I called the district manager and he had his associate call me back (Sorayta). She will be unable to get back to me until 1/21 after looking over the situation.
US Bank has taken $148 of my money from 1/12 and I will not have an answer until at least 1/21. What can I charge them per day for taking my money? They are criminals.

The next day, I made no purchases and the full amount of the check was distributed into the account. The same night, about an hour before midnight, I made a $200 payment to my cellphone bill. When I looked at my statement again the next day, I saw two overdraft charges applied even though my account wasn't and had never been in the negative.
When I called US Bank, the rep told me that the payment had come in on the same day the check had been fully distributed into the account. Also the $10 charge that I had made days prior hadn't been added to the account until after my phone bill payment had come through, so I now had two $35 overdraft charges.
He told me that he couldn't reverse the charges because they weren't bank errors. None of this made any sense. The money from the check was in my account and accessible before I had made the phone bill payment. I had proof of this. Not to mention, when I called Kaiser (the $10 co-payment charge that appeared), they had confirmed that the money had actually been taken out days before. So the way I see it, there was no reason for it to appear after they had suspiciously overdrafted my account.

I honestly think the employees at US Bank are trained to mislead customers for bank gain. I have paid $689 in fees all for false information according to managers, given to me by 1800 # employees. My account was overdrawn $.57. I called the 1800usbanks to discuss how to fix this. She told me that a fee of $35 was posted making my account -$35.57, so if I made a $36 deposit the following day, my account will be positive and I actually had 4 days to make the deposit before more fees accrue.
Since everything had posted to my account and I had no outstanding checks or pending transactions, I borrowed the 36 and went to my branch at 9 am the next day. When I went to deposit my money, my account had become -$110.57 in a matter of 12 hours. When you call the 800 #, it states at the beginning of each call, "All calls will be recorded and monitored for customer assurance." I asked to speak with the 800# manager and explained what the employee 12 hours ago had told me. She responded with, "Well, that's false information, and you should read the fee agreement you received when opening the account."
I told her that I understand the policy but I was completely misled and I find that to be a bank error, and I want the recording reviewed and the employee better trained. I knew the time and name of the employee I had spoken with but the manager told me it was impossible to obtain the recording and I must pay the account balance off. I honestly think that was the whole plan - tell me to wait a couple of days (4 to be exact even though I only waited 12 hrs) to make a deposit. That way, the bank will make hundreds of dollars off me rather than the original $37.
Why are the calls recorded for customer assurance if the customers aren't even allowed to review these recordings? I was misled now for the second time by internet banking and 1800usbanks. 75% of all bank revenue are from Overdraft and NSF fees but apparently, that's not enough for US Bank. All in all, I have paid $779 for overdrawing my account once for $.57 and another for $1.27. Wow! What an interest rate! US Bank is such a scam. On 01/05/2008, a monthly bill from Microsoft of $7.99 was authorized on my account, overdrawing me by $3.95, but instead of getting charged just one overdraft charge, I got charged three assumingly because the charges I made from Wal-Mart on the 2nd didn't post until the 5th. I sat with the manager of my branch for over 30 minutes and argued with her while she talked to me like I'm some kind of idiot.

I asked to speak with the manager. He pointed to a lady. I asked her if she was the bank manager and she said yes. I explained that the charge were incorrect. I asked to speak with the manager. She stated no manager was at that location until January.
We called US Bank and they stated that I must speak with the branch manager. I asked the assistant manager to have the branch manager contact me when they arrive. About January 9th, I got a letter from US Bank. I then called the phone number on the form and asked to speak with the manager. I was told the manager's name is Sheri and that she was not in. I located an 800 number online and called to get assistance. They directed me to the store again. When US Bank finally advised me of the hold up, the letter stated that they would cover any overdraft charges caused by this delay. They did not do so. I closed the account. I notified everyone that does an automatic draft that I was changing banks and not to use the US Bank account. I went to the ATM and withdrew everything except $0.36.
In December, Wal-Mart in Ohio had run through a $4 charge that they had specifically been advised not to use. All of the banking information had been changed in the computer showing Wachovia was now the correct bank to use. I advised US Bank by email that the charge was in error. They promised a provisional credit until an investigation could be made. I received an email from Ann ** advising that the credit was permanent and that US Bank found in my favor. For the past 2 months, our checking account has been hit with no fewer than 18 NSFs all resulting in overdraft fees, in excess of $500 (actually much more). Somehow, this has all managed to happen even though we never had a negative balance until all the overdraft fees were subtracted. Apparently, this all began on the 1st of last month. My husband is in the Army and his pay is direct-deposited on the 1st and the 15th. We have never had an issue in the past and no direct deposit has ever been held from us for any reason.
So, we checked both over the phone and the internet banking site to make sure the deposit was made on the 1st. It was, and the deposit was reflected in our available balance, per usual. So, my husband went into the bank and withdrew from the teller $740 in cash - no issues. The teller was pleasant and never said a word, and handed my husband the cash. A few days later, we checked our online banking and saw that we were now magically overdrawn by several hundred dollars! We called the bank that minute, while on the way to our branch office. So, what they were trying to tell us was that they have the right to hold any deposit (even a direct deposit that they have had no problems with in the past) for up to 3 days for any reason they see fit.
Even though the money was showing as available (not pending) online and via a live telephone agent, it was not actually in our account. So, they are telling us that when my husband went into the branch office and withdrew the $740 in cash, that put us into the negative by almost $500. As a rational human being, I asked, why in the world would any bank hand out over $500 in cash, when there is supposedly no money in the account, and not even mention that, "Hey, this will overdraw your account."
The manager told us that it is not the job of the teller to balance our account for us and if we had been keeping track of our account properly in a ledger, we would not have had to rely on someone else to tell us our balance, and that we should know better than to rely on the phone inquiry or the online information as it is almost always off. Okay! So, beyond the fact that the manager was incredibly rude and nasty, how does any of that make sense? What bank in the world just hands out cash when there is nothing in the bank to cover the withdrawals?
We were then informed that because the account was only 4 months old, we could not cancel the account unless we paid a $250 early cancellation fee. So, we said we would leave a balance in the account until it hit the 6-month mark, then we were closing our account. We left about $100 in the account, but did not use it. We were just waiting until we could close it with no fee. So, a few weeks later, we checked the balance online, just out of curiosity, and it showed we were $287 in the negative! Here we go again. We have not used the account in any fashion so how could we possibly be overdrawn?!
Well, it turned out that we were double charged for some overdraft fees, not just 1 or 2, but try 5. While they would never admit it was their error, they said they would reverse those charges. A month later, it has not happened. So, back to the bank branch we went, only to be told that we were not getting that money now or ever. They have a strict policy, it seems, to never refund any fee on any account that is less than 6 months old. So, as of this moment, we are checking the account several times a day, even though there is nothing pending in our records, just to make sure they haven't figured out some other fee to hit us with.
We now have paid US Bank almost $1000 in fees in the past 6 weeks, and now we are stuck not being able to close the account for another month unless we pay a huge fee to do so. Every single interaction with the customer service line and the people at the branch has ended with us being told a different story. The people are rude and none of them seem to be on the same page. We have also had issues with transactions posting, then the next day they are back to pending, then back again. How can a check clear, then not clear, then do these several more times?

Well at one point, I was 200.00 overdrawn and couldn't figure out why because I had money available on a daily basis. I went to the bank to pay the 200.00 so that I wouldn't be overdrawn. By the next payday, I had checked my account and again... I was overdrawn. I called the 1-800 and found that they had taken the 200.00 that I paid to get my account out of overdraft and stuck it towards the payday advance.
Now when I was in the bank I questioned the bank teller about this and she said that they wouldn't take it because I was in the negative, so I didn't worry about it. Well when I found out this happened I called the bank. Talked to the same teller and her statement was that she was wrong that it was policy that there was nothing that could be done about it, so again I was charged overdraft charges. For two months, I was unable to pay bills, had my utilities shut off because every dime I put in they took out and wouldn't work with me to fix it. This has happened several time. I was informed by the bank personal that it was their policy to pay the largest check first and if there is a negative balance then they bounce them all. Instead of paying what could be paid, they just bounced them all.
Now at one point, it was a holiday and auto deposit was not credited due to the holiday. But guess what, the bounced fees were. If the holiday stopped the deposit, why didn't the holiday stop the overdraft charges. This has happened so many times in the 4 last few months I have changed banks. I have an overdraft charge and a advance pay due on the account but there is nothing that I can do. I asked them if we can freeze the account and just let me pay it off. I was informed no this cannot be done, I cannot close the account until I am out of the negative. But I can't get out of the negative because everything that I put in will go towards the advance pay and I will still incur the daily 8.00 overdraft charges, therefore they will get another arm and leg. I feel that they have made enough money off of my family. It is time for it to stop.

In order to close escrow, I had to payoff my Lease one year before the lease was to be over. So I sent in the full 12 months payments to US Bank and asked them to show the account paid in full and send me a letter stating that they received the payments and the Lease is paid in full. 1. It takes them 2 weeks to apply the payment. 2. Another 2 weeks to issue a letter
I was transferred from one department to another, and each one explained how I need to talk to the other department. Finally, I got a manager on the phone, and he said that they have the payment and are in process of figuring out what it is for. I told him, it is for 12 payment @ $605.00 a month. His response was well, the payment department need to figure out what to do with this payment. By now my blood pressure was boiling, I told him, I just told you what the payment is for, what is it that you are researching?..
It is so sad that there are so many good, Smart people out of a Job, yet they have Idiots in such positions. In closing, If you choose to deal with US Bank, I suggest you take your blood pressure medication. They have very polite customer service people, BUT, they DO NOT KNOW what they are doing. I had talked to so many people, been transferred to so many different departments, overall, it took over a month, Only with MY efforts, to get them to show my lease account paid in full and to get a 2-line letter out saying it is paid in full. This is my second experience of shear madness with US Bank. During the past week, they have continued to charge my account overdraft fees on a positive balance and have a new and creative way of explaining the mysterious absence of funds. I have all withdrawal receipts stating both Actual and Available balances, my daily online printouts and my Monthly Statement. After arguing continuing charges $250 in one week and accruing despite positive balance, I printed out my statement and called customer service yet, again.
The agent explained to me that he understood that what the daily internet reading wasn't the whole story and the Statement was not really the truth. If the Bank Statement Daily Ending Balance is untrue, the internet daily readings untrue, withdrawal receipts untrue and bank teller information untrue....what exactly is true? The game is to keep the customer thinking the system is SO complex (it is not) that we are SO stupid and we are too dumb to balance the checkbook. This is far from the case. These are bogus fees on positive accounts and CORRUPT business under the guise of Banking. Is this a legal way to steal money?

I am sure you are thinking that we are not managing our account correctly, but this is not the case, US Bank is a professional trained thief, they will live of the overdraft charges. This bank is stealing your money without any mercy.
Shame on us that we put our trust and money in the hands of this crooks. The US bank charge my 14 years old son account $120.00 overdraft fees for the negative account of $1.95.US bank customer service, including branch Manager, District Manager were no help. I have had this number for 30 years at the same address and never heard of Bradford. The calls continued. It took 8 calls with people hanging up on me to get the calls to stop. A few weeks later, they resumed, and I have had over 15 more calls this week - 3 today after they assured me the number is removed again on Saturday.

From the very week I opened my account with US Bank in Longview Washington with the manager named Adrianne **, this rip-off artist began taking my money. First, they put a hold on my paycheck which caused my mortgage payment to get returned, of course with a returned draft fee. Then when my direct deposits started, they claimed a check cleared in the middle of the night before my check went in the bank and charged me a $35.00 clearing fee even though my statement clearly shows the check cleared after my deposit.
I never heard of a bank that runs checks and drafts through your account 24/7. I think they are professional rip-off artist with deep pockets and a bunch of lawyers and they are getting away with whatever they want. My advice is stay as far away from US Bank as you can. I have been a US Bank customer for three years now and cannot begin to express how humorous I find their "5-Star Service Guarantee" to be. Being a college student who puts herself through school, I am very careful about money. I had overdrawn on my checking account twice in a couple years but US Bank was kind enough to reverse the overdrafts both times. Once I actually had enough for a savings account, I opened one with US Bank and was told that it would also serve as overdraft protection for my checking account.
Well, one day I must have balanced my checkbook incorrectly as I overdrew on my checking account by four cents (yeah, that's right, FOUR cents). US Bank charged me an overdraft fee of $37.50 despite the fact that I had three-hundred dollars in my savings account. I immediately called the bank and was told they could do nothing for me as I had had overdraft charges reversed before and they could do no more for me. I then went and deposited $40 into my account to bring my balance back above zero. The next day, I went to check on my checking account status and saw that I had been charged a $5 return mailer fee (apparently they had sent me something in the mail but had my address wrong? And yet I've always received US Bank mail before and have not moved). With that $5 charge, I was then again "overdrawn" (by $2.46) and charged another $37.50 fee.
When I called US Bank, I was told they had received a returned statement because my address was wrong in their system. I asked how that was possible as I've always received mail before and have not moved; the CSR could not answer me and simply repeated something about my address being wrong before "accidentally" disconnecting me. I then transferred $40 out of my savings into my checking to again cover the fees as I was planning on closing both accounts asap. Unfortunately, in the midst of this US Bank drama, I had forgotten they automatically deduct $25 each month on the 17th from my checking to my savings. As you may be able to guess, I was then charged another overdraft fee.
When I went to my local US Bank branch, I was asked who I spoke to in regards to my savings being checking account overdraft protection. When I could not remember (isn't it their job to keep a record of this?). I was told by the banker that there was nothing he could do as my savings did not in fact act as overdraft protection because only my name was on it while both mine and my mother's name were on my checking. I then asked to close my checking account but again could not do so because my mother's name was also on the account.
Stupidly, I decided to wait until I could get a hold of my mother to close the account and simply gave US Bank $40 to put into my checking account... Guess it is now my job to double-check every action they make as I did not closely check the account number they had deposited the money into as the teller was off by a number and deposited the money into someone else's account (a random stranger).
When I called US Bank about the account number situation, they transferred me to the wrong local branch and then I was accidentally disconnected. I then called again and again was transferred to the wrong branch but this time the situation was handled from there (but yet no apologies came my way). Unfortunately for me, another $37.50 fee was deducted from my account the next day. When I called, I was told it was because my available balance was in the negative. I explained that I had not spent any money using my checking account in a week but was simply told that this was not a banking error and therefore there was nothing to be done.
Overall, in the past two months, I have been charged $225 in overdraft and other banking fees. US Bank is absolutely the worst bank for anyone to work with and I make sure to relate my experiences to anyone and everyone who will listen to ensure that no one else has money stolen from them like I did.

I just seen this website about US Bank. I too have a huge problem with them. I was told last night after arguing on the phone with them, that on Veterans Days when the federal reserve was closed, the US Banks were still open taking regular business as if it wasn't a holiday. I made my deposits, and used my Visa debit card as normal. They informed me last night that because the federal reserve was closed, Deposits was delayed on being posted by a day or two. Somehow all debits to the accounts was able to be posted. How is it that debits get posted but not credits??? That is so they can charge all the bank fees.
Well I have been hit with $300 so far and expecting another $225. How are they allowed to get do this? They said to read my terms and conditions. That is wrong! My second problem with them is I was told that I cannot use what THEY call the Available Balance, because it isn't a true figure. I am thinking, then why call it that and be misleading. They said you have to click on the blue links next to each transaction to get a total. Who has time to do all that, they put a figure at the top for us to use, then a second figure on a blue link so more people can go overdrawn. Does anyone know who to contact to find out if this is legal?
Maybe enough people have not complained to have someone in charge of all this to correct. From what I am reading, if there are more and more dissatisfied people with US Bank, they will switch banks and then that bank will be in trouble of staying open. Customer service should be a priority to these banks. Us as customers pays those tellers salaries, shouldn't they take the extra minute to perform customer service which is in their job title anyway?

On September 30th, 2008, I was to receive a wire transfer in the amount of approx $36000.00. On the 1st of October, I called US Bank and they told me it was still Processing and it would be available soon. On the 2nd, I found out that there had been an IRS Levy placed against the transfer. I contacted the IRS and they didn't even know why the levy was placed because I was in a payment agreement with them and was and had always been current. The IRS was also confused why the bank had sent the entire wire transfer to them because the levy was on for approx $1900.00. Never the less the lady at the IRS helped me by rushing it through and got my bank account released on the 6th and all my monies were to be available on the 9th of October.
On the 9th, the lady again contacted me from the IRS and told me the bank had returned the transfer and she reprocessed the transfer. By mistake she had sent it through on a 21 day hold. During this time I contacted the banks transfer dept and the banks levy dept. Both departments told me the monies would be in my account the following day. The next day I contacted both departments for them to tell me again the money would be in my account the following day. Again no funds were made available. I then contacted my branch manager and turned it over to her. She told me she had gotten it fixed but it would be 48 hours before it is available. It never went in my account. She then told me go ahead and write checks that the bank would cover them. They returned all my checks. For another 7 days I went back and forth with her trying to straighten it out.
On Wednesday the 22nd, she finally told me they found the problem that the IRS had sent it back through on a 21 day hold that would be up on Sunday the 26th. I again contacted the IRS and they faxed an immediate release to the bank. Nikki my branch manager told me they got the fax but it had come in too late of that nights processing but it would go through that night and all my funds would be available on Saturday the 25th. That didn't happen. Then I was contacted by her boss Jason.
He told me that he would be taking over the matter and would reprocess it and my funds would be in my account in 48 hours. He also told me he was faxing a letter of inconvenience. I didn't get the fax or the money. He then told me he had found the problem and fixed it but it would be another 48 hours. He also told me he was going to FedEx me the letter as the fax was not working.
To date I have gotten neither my money or the letter. Since I have contacted the wire transfer dept and the levy dept only to be told that it would be in my account the next day. Then the last time I contacted the wire transfer dept on the 3rd of November, the supervisor told me it had a 5 day hold on it and my funds would be in my account on the 5th of November. The same day I called the complaint dept at the bank and got a call back from Carrie to be told that the reason the funds were not in my account was because my bank manager had placed a hold on my account because of bank charges.
She told me she was going to remove all the charges and get the deposit in by Friday the 7th. Well this never happened also. I called her on the 8th and she told me there was no reason this is not in my account. That she was trying to get it released but it was Saturday. She assured me that on Monday it would not be a problem to get it released.
On Monday the 10th, I spoke with her and she told me that the banks collection dept had placed a hold on the deposit. She told me that she had noted the account so that this should not have happened. She also said that she was ill and going home but that her manager Rodger was going to get it handled. I got a call from him and he told me that it was solved and that my account would have the deposit available the evening of the 10th. It is now the 11th and my account still has the deposit pending as it has for the past week. I am going to now file a claim with the FDIC, Department of Financial Institutions, The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and seek private counsel, as I feel I have been lied to, mistreated and mislead by everyone that I have been trying to get help from in the Bank.

US Bank holds our mortgage. We have been issued a settlement check from our insurance company in the amount of $9,897.28 that we wanted endorsed by US Bank. We will be expecting another check for the same amount. US Bank said they will refuse to endorse a second check without forcing us to mail in the check for which they plan to deduct various fees for inspection of the property. Their policy is that they will endorse checks for under $10,000 without any additional conditions. The estimates are for repairs to the interior of our home from water damages due to our roof leaking. Since each repair is a separate supplier/vendor and repair costs are for under $10,000 each, we see no reason to have to submit the second check for their inspections. In addition, we are paying to re-roof our home with out of pocket funds since the insurance refused to pay this due to improper installation of the current roof which caused the leaking to occur. This has to be done before any interior work is completed. The cost to re-roof is $15,500 for which we have paid $7500 as a down payment. The roof work is to begin next week.

No paint work was ever done on my car, all the original glass in tact and no dings or dents. Vehicle is in sound, great mechanical condition and tires are in great condition also. What gives?
The end came and we decided to purchase the vehicle outright. We titled it in our business name which lists me as the president. This should have forgave my bill. NO! They still wanted me to pay the $809! SO, I buy the car outright and I still have to pay damages and still have to pay the full buy out price too? They robbed me blind. Well, we disputed the charges with them, stayed in contact every month and each time the person on the phone agreed with us and promised to talk to someone who could make the final decision and plead our case. 8 months went by and I received a bill from a credit collection company now. But the bill was less than orignally. Now it was $600.
I said to my husband that I didn't want to screw up our credit so lets just pay it and be done with them. Which we did. We pulled our credit bureau before we paid and no collection was listed and no negitive marks were there under US Bank either. The bill was satisfied in 1 week from the day we received it. We figured we now can go on with our life. NOT! We went to a bank for a credit line for our business and the representative asked us about the late marks on our lease. WHAT! They not only marked it as a collection but gave me 8, over 90 days late, late marks! Dropping my credit score a whopping 60 points because of it!

I have been charged 9 NSF fees in 2 days from US Bank, in all totaling $315. It all started when I took out a check account cash advance. US Bank decided to change their repayment of the cash advances in Washington state. The repayment agreement had always been that it would come out of your next direct deposit. As of 9/15/08, they made it where it comes out of any deposit of $100 or more. I needed to make a large payment on an account and wanted to make it ASAP.
So, I called to find out exactly when my prior advance would be taken out of my account. I was told it would come out with my next direct deposit as it had in the past. Based on that information, I scheduled the payment to be paid on 9/16/08, knowing that they always hold all but $100 out of every paper deposit the first 24 hours. I deposited my check on 9/15/08 and checked the next day to make sure it had posted. To my surprise, when I checked my account on the 16th, I had 4 NSF fees on my account AND the advance had been taken out of that check, which had been totally wiped it by it. They charged me $140 in NSF fees for 2 ATM purchases and 2 checks ($37 in all) that had posted on the 15th.
I immediately got on the phone to the 800 number and was informed I must have been given the wrong information, that's it a new thing and not everyone was up to speed or trained on it yet. They said sorry, couldn't do nothing about it, and I had to get the branch manager where I opened the account to reverse the charges. I then called the Auburn, WA branch multiple times to speak to the manager and get this resolve. I was informed Chad was either out or busy but they would leave a message. No one ever returned my call.
On the 17th I checked my account and it showed 2 of the 4 NSF fees reversed, but there was also now 5 additional NSF fees added to my account from 3 checks and 2 ATM purchases that had posted on the 16th ($41 in all). I don't understand why they keep charging me NSF fees for their mistake.
They are still refusing to reverse any of the remaining 9 NSF fees on my account. They indicate it was my fault and I should have known the advance was coming out of my paper deposit REGARDLESS of what I was told. I have been a US Bank customer since I first opened up an account as a child, over 30 years, and have put up with their constant changing of the rules. This is the last straw.

I had taken out a cash advance, which according to the guidelines would be taken out/repaid from my next direct deposit. Instead, they changed the repayment procedure to come out of any deposit over $100 starting 9/15/08. I was informed my advance would be exempt from this new Washington state procedure as I had taken the advance prior to the 15th. I made my in-person deposit and checked my account the next day. The cash advance repayment was taken out of this deposit and NSF charges x 4 were applied to my account at $170 total.
Then, after being on and off the phone numerous times that day to correct this to no avail and leaving only messages the the branch manager, I checked my account on the 17th and saw 2 of the 4 NSF charges had been reversed, BUT 4 new NSF charges had been added to it. In all now totalling NSF charges of $210 . If the advance would not have been taken out as I had been told, there would have been no NSF charges assessed as the money would have been there to pay all the outstanding charges.
I have once again been on the phone to get this corrected and find out why only 2 of the first 4 were reversed. No matter who you call, you're told you must go through [the] opening branch. The 800 number won't even help, though they are simpathetic and wished they could - yea, right!
They gave charged my account $210 in NSF charges and are indicating this is too high of a reversal to do. They will work on it. All the while, more items clear and more NSF charges get assessed.

They then held that deposit and started applying overdraft charges....the first one on a positive balance, based apparently on what was pending out there in cyberspace. Four of them at 37.50 a piece on 9/9 and then on 9/10 added 5 more pending overdfraft charges.
While there were some that had gone through the account, we could not find enough to account for 9 of these. Finally they post everything and release that deposit, leaving him still in the hole. We e-mailed from their website questioning this, and giving me permission to call on the account.
I called the next day, and oh, no they didn't have anything, and have now added 2 more overdraft charges. We're now up to 11 and we can't really account for 11. I deposit another 400 into the account and his brother deposits 400$$ cash in the morning. So now within 3 days we have 1000.00 in deposits, in addition to his paycheck the previous week,---that are held until they apply all the overdraft charges.
If they had posted the deposit (which they held just long enough to apply overdrafts)this wouldn't have happened...Of course they wouldn't be making such a profit either. Then I called again and was told they never do banking or give information through e-mail. I literally made that little girl get onto their site and look. And asked why they have the option if they don't do this? She couldn't answer and of course was dismayed. If and that is a big if, they do not add anymore and post those deposits he may actually come out by the skin of his teeth. But having read others' complaints, I think this may go on for a long time. He is closing this account and going to my bank.
So far over 400.00 in overdraft charges in 2 days, causing him hardship to be sure, but also hugely inconveniencing family members who are trying to get him out of a hole he shouldn't be in to begin with.

My account had not been used for almost a year. I now owe 463.00 in overdraft fees that Matt had told me would be waived if he had a letter from Sprint saying they had mistakenly taken my monthly fee out of this account instead of my current account. I called Sprint-they say We have no form letter in our system we can send to your bank-Matt said the charges, being a mistake, would be dropped if I had a letter from Sprint stating that. I have been going around and around with U.S, Bank and Sprint for over a year now and after countless trips to the bank (and countless + hours on the phone to both) to get copies of statements to fax to Sprint
Sprint says they can't accept an internet statement but U.S. Bank says that's how they do it I am still unable to solve this. I have names and dates of people I've talked to at the bank and Sprint. Matt even talked dierctly to a Sprint agent and told me We are a bank and not in the business of covering overdraft charges unless you can get a letter from them there's nothing I can do.
This was a mistake and neither U.S. Bank or Sprint will even try to clear it up. I would really appreciate some help as I can't open an account at a bank, apply for a loan and my wages may eventually be garnished and I can't afford that. PLEASE help me!!!! I'm at my wits end. Thank You for your time, Karen
I have lost time from work trying to solve this, been VERY frustrated, lost many hours sleep trying to figure out how to get a simple letter from Sprint-I'm not even asking them to pay the fees just a simple letter. I would like to clear up my credit and maybe apply for a auto loan. If they garnish my wages, I couldn't afford to work. In my eyes it's pretty sad if because of a mistake U.S. Bank may be able to do that. Please help me.....

US Bank bought the bank I had my money market account with. They automatically enrolled me into a creditline, and began charging me hidden fees for anything and everything. After a divorce, I paid and closed my credit card and creditline accounts, and moved my money market account to a different bank. After a few months, I moved, and had my mail forwarded. Before I moved, I noticed I was $31.00 in overdraft. I deposited $200.00 into the account that day.
A month later, when I went to close the account, US BANK informed me that they had closed my account, because they had been charging me, $6 per day since the overdraft, without any of my knowledge. When I agreed to pay another $254.00 in outrageous fees, they informed me, that I was put on check systems, and therefore would not be able to open another account at ANY major financial instituition for the next *5 years*.
After I spoke to my current bank's manager, he informed me, that check systems has the same removal procedure to take off someone from their system, as was used to put me on, and normally would take 48 hours to process the removal. When I went back to US bank, to explain the situation (again), they REFUSED to remove me from check systems for the reason, the US bank does NOT take people off check systems Really? So, NO other person has ever been removed from check systems, from the US bank??
US bamk charged me outrageous amounts in fees, therefore, putting me into arrears, and even after paying them, they refuse to correct this mistake? US bank, has WAY to much power to control your financial reputation, based on whatever they are capable of getting away with. US bank's arbritrary practices do nothing more, than look for loopholes to take money from their clients. Their selective practices are unlike many other well known banks. We need to put a stop to these selective practices of the US bank, and it's related financial instituitions.
I will not be able to get a car loan from any major financial institution or bank, for the next *five years*, because of a $31.00 overdraft.

Contacted this individual and notified him that I was forced on medical leave without pay nor benefits and asked that he would "freeze" my account. I later learned that he did not freeze the account, so I wrote one last check to get medication that I was in need of. The next day I deposited additional monies into the account to cover the check. Only to find out later that ovedraft charges consumed the deposit so therefore the check did not clear.
After having to file bankruptcy as a result, months later I recieved notification from the States Attorney's office that the check was submitted to their office. I was never notified by my bank or pharmacy that I had written the check to that it did not clear. The check was written in September, 2007 and I was contacted in February 2008 by the States Attorney's Office of the check not clearing. I contacted Walgreens, whom reported that checks that are returned to them (Walgreens)are handled by a collection agency. I contacted the collection agency and they reported that they did not have anything in their (Walgreen's Collection Agency) computer system with my name nor the check. They reported knowing nothing of the check. However, they refused to provided me with a written statement of their not having anything in their system of me. They reported that they did not know what might pop up later.
The collection agency was informed that I was contacting them in March 2008 and the check was written in September 2007. I know that some computer systems are slow, but none as slow as what they were implying. I finally was able to get the States Attorney's Office to send a copy of the check to one of the banker at US Bank. This banker reported that the check did not appear to have been presented to their (US Bank) for processing. Even though the check was stamped "Insufficient Funds". The check was not showing on any of my bank statements.
It was not until today, August 29, 2008 that I was finally able to speak with someone from US Bank that was able to verify that the check had been processed by their (US BANK). This checking account was closed in the Bankruptcy. However, the States Attorney's office would not allow this check to filed in the bankruptcy. I truly feel that US Bank did not notify me of this check nor did they process it (the check) the way prior checks were processed, because I had submitted this checking account to the Office of Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).
I sent this checking account to be reviewed because I felt that I had done all that I could to make sure my checking account was being taking care of. OCC reported the bank did not error. I was told by the Belleville Branch Administrator in September 2007 that he was going to freeze the account and he did not. I contacted him again in October 2007 it was then that this same Administrator told me he would put a "lock" on the account and remove $130 in overdraft charges. Which he did.
With all that has taking place, I feel that I have been lied to, misled and caused undue hardship. OCC suggested that I read the pamphlet that I recieved when I signed to open this checking account from front to back. This accout I believe was open in 2000. I informed the person from OCC, I do not have the capability to read the pamphlet from front to back. I explained to her that by the time I read the first page and turn to the second, I would not be able to remember what the front page read. I informed her that I have been diagnosed with a "learning disability and borderling mental retardation".
Jackie B. that held Mr W.'s position before him was aware of my limitations and did try to work with me when she could. When Ms B. said she would do something for me, I knew that it was done. I hoped and thought that Mr. W. would do the same, but he didn't. While speaking with OCC I inquired if she knew of an agency that assist persons with limited mental functioning. I now know that I can not expect everyone to be as considerate as Ms. B.
When I was approved for Social Security they suggested that I get a representative payee. It was suggested that it would be someone that I trust. I do not have any family members or friends that I feel that would handle my financial matters appropriately. I feel totally overwhelmed and can not find the help that I am in need of. I was forced to file bankruptcy and as a result US Bank has filed with Chexsystems that I "Abused my checking account".
Therefore, practically everytime I write a check to purchase anything at a department or grocery store, it comes up that the cashiers can not accept the check. There is also a returned check with the States Attorney's office which is now wanting to prosecute me for $290 for the check that I wrote for my mental health medication for $55.

I went grocery shopping that evening and ran other errands that same evening and the next morning. I was charged overdraft charges of 37.50 for each debit made on my debit card, because the bank held the funds for a 24 hour period! I don't understand how they make those funds available in order to approve charges on my debit card, yet those funds aren't really there so they charge overdraft fees!!

By their rules , they are supposed to charge each returned check for 5.50. but beside that they charged me 37.50 for each item the trick is they put your check on hold for 6 or seven days .
if your check gets bounced, it returns to them in 3 or 4 days then as soon as they receive the return cherck they deduct the ammonyt of the check from the balance since your check is on hiold it makes your account negative that means overdraft and then boom, 37.5 extra for negative overdraft fee which in reality didn't take place. I have been dealing with this bank for the past year and they have been zelous in charging me for overdraft charges and daily over draft charges. In one week they charged me well over 200 dollars. Today, I spoke to their representative Dot who indicated that I owed $390.82 to make my closing of my account clean, I called to confirm the amount owed only to find out that I owed not this amount but in fact over 800 dollars. How can this be? I believe that this bank is over charging my account and is not depositing my funds in order to have my charges escalate.
As a result today - not to mention past charges I now have incurred $120.50 in bank charges. I requested a stop payment some checks, which they refused to do prior to closing my account. After closing my account they have allowed checks to be paid. I am disputing their claims on overdraft charges owing and in fact wish to dispute the majority of these charges - including ATM fees charged at $1.50 and $2.00 of which more than $8.00 for one session was charged.

US Bank retroactively charged me an NSF charge for a cash withdrawl I made at the branch, with their printout and with the help of their teller. I went into the bank on wednesday afternoon after 3pm. The teller gave me a printout and I asked her if there were any pending charges, she said only one for $4.07. I then withdrew $100, leaving $10 in there to cover the $4.07. My mistake... I had a charge for $38 for my XM radio subscription come through (once every 3 months, I forgot all about it), so I figured I'd have an overdraft fee. Not so, they went back and charged me an overdraft fee for the $4, the $38 and for the $100 I took out in cash.
I called to ask how they could do this retroactively on the $100. She said that's how they do it. Aparently the $38 debit came in before midnight, that's why it wasn't on the printout. Can they charge me a NSF fee for taking out cash? This has occured several times over the last year, each time resulting in hundreds of dollars of charges over the last year. We have notice peculiar discrepancies regarding deposits, withdrawals and debits. I began to get overdraft notices in and around the times my automatic payroll deposits occurred or when I made a deposit.
With US Bank, they will let us use the card indefinitely, racking up thousands of dollars in overdraft fees without it even showing up on the on-line account until several days later. Every time I came in to find out what happened, I learned some new trick, some new quirk as to why my account overdrew.
Yesterday, my wife and I went into the Loveland branch and spoke with a lady named Nicole Point to clarify a discrepancy that cost me $262.50 in charges. My on line banking printout never indicated that we were even close to overdrawing the account, not until Sunday when everything fell apart. If the on-line system would have indicated that it was overdrawn I would have taken action to stop the problem the day it happened. Nicole justified everything and even though my account said I had the available funds, apparently (I just learned) that the number shown on my running column is not what is available, it's a ghost number that really means nothing and causes much dismay for lots of customers.
Nicole got a little abrupt with us when we pressed her to take off the USB hat and be a logical, rational human being. She told us that lots of people at this bank have this problem, it happens so many times a day I can't tell you how irritating it is that people use this on line service to balance their account. Nobody should count on our electronic banking to keep a balance... it's not dependable, it's not accurate and it causes problems like this for everybody. You should ONLY use a register... this on line thing is just for tracking your account
With this type of enlightening endorsement of their on-line system, no wonder it seems like I suddenly can't manage my money... lots of people are having the same problems. Is this legal, is this right? Can they do this?
Financially, $700 is pretty tough for me... add this to the other random fees they have nailed us for and it's daunting. How can one mistake snowball into such a mess? They run the largest check or debit first, then all the small ones bounce, racking up the fees... it's a scam.
Now at new bank, hoping to put this all behind me, but I do want to pursue this in an attempt to get my fees back, at least some of them because I believe there is something fishy going on regarding how they handle incoming debits, deposits and the time of day. I hope someone can help me with this.

Credit cards have become a necessity. Cruise lines, etc. will not accept checks. We are, therefore, at the mercy of cc companies to charge whatever they can get away with.

On July 29th I deposited my paycheck in an Alberstons store US Bank Branch. I have deposited my paycheck in this exact amount from this same company 24 times this year and have deposited different amounts from this same company (a county school district) for 9 years. After my deposit I went about my business and used my debit card, etc. Keeping track of my spending in my register.
On August 6th I was grocery shopping and my card was declined. Upon going home and checking online, I saw that my account had over $600.00 in overdraft fees/charges and was negative. Of course I called the 1-800 number and was transferred to the bank who put the hold on my check. They stated that because my account was overdrawn and that I have repeated overdrafts over the years, they CAN hold my check if they want. I explained that US Bank has made A LOT of money off of my overdrafts and that if they were checking my account history they would see that I always deposit my paycheck every two weeks and bring my account current. I also questioned that if they were so worried about a negative balance, why was I able to use my card to rack up a much higher negative balance?
I then drove to my local branch where they know me (totally embarrassing as I am the teacher of their former branch manager) and the Supervisor there agreed to call my home branch (which is in another state as I opened my account in college) and see what they could do. I was then called back and told that they took off $200.00. Though this is nice, it is not the total amount. When I am in the wrong and overdraft my account, I pay the fees and that's that, BUT when they are in the wrong, which they are in this case, they should take the charges off.
I was also told by the branch that held my check, that they reserve the right to hold any check they want if the account holder has had overdrafts in the past. It doesn't matter if the account history shows that the check is deposited on a consistent basis and the account always brought current. They have rules and procedures to cover every thing they do.
$600.00 + in overdrafts and fees that I DO NOT have. This is a week's pay as I am an elementary school teacher and only make $3,000.00 per month. I had to rack up more fees because my account was in the negative, which I did not know as I had no idea they had held my check, and was writing checks as usual. They of course came through and I racked up MORE fees after I found out what had happened. It was too late and I had to watch the waterfall of damage continue. I put in my most recent paycheck and half of it was already gone. This will put me back all month as I need to pay my household bills this month. They will count on this and when I have to write checks or pay bills so I can eat, they KNOW they can make more money off of the $37.50 x ? they make off of me this time. I will be playing catch up for months.

Late fees/additional interest charges, not a lot of money, of which one was reversed upon complaint. It's a matter of principle more than economics, but if a sufficient class of people complain perhaps US bank can be forced to ammend their practices.

I asked the person on the phone to call me back the next night and I would let him know if I wanted to apply for it, and he agreed.
A few nights later, someone else called from U.S. Bank to see whether I had decided to apply for the card. I told them I decided against it and did not want to do that. I even mentioned that I didn't want my credit pulled right now, as I'm going through a divorce. The person on the phone agreed that that was the correct decision at this time and there was no confusion as to my decision - it was NOT to apply for a card.
A few days later, I received a new credit card in the mail from U.S. Bank. I called them and they told me that they HAD pulled my credit and the whole thing was their error. I told them that they needed to contact the three main credit bureaus and correct the error and they refused, saying that was my responsibility. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told the same thing - that it was my responsibility to contact the agencies and correct this.
I don't even know if they will accept a correction from a consumer and it will take hours of work to do this. My scores are now lower because of U.S. Bank's actions and they are refusing to fix their error.
My credit score is now lower because they pulled my credit after I specifically told them not to do that.

February 2005 a Mary Kay representative encouraged me to get a credit card so that I could buy inventory. She kept pushing me to purchase more so that I'd be eligible to receive door prizes. No surprise that I wasn't able to sell the inventory. I nearly maxed out my $10,000 card and my 0% APR increased to 6%. I accidentally used my card at the grocery store. I came home and promptly paid what I had spent but the damage was done. My card was over the limit. That was March 2007. Since then, my interest rate has been astronomical. I talked the credit card company into lowering it from 32% to 22.24%.
I pay more than the minimum payments, but it is still difficult to make a dent in amount due. I haven't been delinquent on the payments, ever. And since that day at the supermarket, I haven't gone over the limit. Now, US Bank keeps lowering that limit. They keep eliminating the cushion between the balance due and the credit limit. They refuse to lower my interest rate so that more of the payment goes to the principal. They won't work with me.
I just received a notice that they lowered my balance due to two reasons: 1. "Serious delinquency, and public record or collection filed" that had NOTHING to do with US Bank. I don't even know what they are referring to, to be honest. I have kept up on my payments to US Bank and haven't skipped payments or gone over the limit in years. How is that reason legal? 2. "Ratio of balances to credit limits on revolving accounts is too high". No snip, Sherlock! You don't think I realize it's too high?!? I'm trying to pay the damn thing down but it's impossible to do when the bank isn't helping at all.
Consumers are drowning. Gas prices are affecting the price of food. People are getting beaten from both ends. A gallon of gas is as much as a gallon of milk. I have to choose: which one should I buy? I can't buy food, pay for gas, and pay down my bills when absolutely nobody is willing to help. Those that are willing to help aren't in the position, those in the position aren't willing. I can't get a car loan, home loan, or another credit card because every time I get my cards paid down enough to improve the debt / credit ratio, the bank lowers my balance which directly affects my credit score. It's already being dinged because of the "serious delinquency, and public record or collection filed" and again when my credit limit is lowered. How is double jeopardy illegal in a court of law but it's not illegal when the consumers are being raped?

When we contacted customer service they explained that there was no bank error and cited procedures that were completely different to what we had been told in the past. We were also not told that that day several more overdraft fees were about to go through. The same day we spoke with our branch office who refunded 2 fees, as a courtesy, but did not mention other fees that were about to hit. The branch instructed me to call customer service again and when I did, the representative did not mention the impending fees.
Upon researching the documents that were given to me when I opened the account, I found no mention of the procedures the "service" representative explained as to why my account was being overdrawn. In fact, I found a lot of contradictory, vague and inaccurate information. When I called the 24 hour banking line the representatives seemed completely ignorant to the account agreement information I was given (despite one representatives claim that everything that had been done on my account would be explained in, which it wasn't) and had an overall contemptuous demeanor.
Finally, I tried to meet with the branch manager on Sunday who wouldn't because she didn't have enough time, refunded another $100 in fees as a "courtesy" but maintained that the bank had made no error. The argument was sealed in that she insisted that the 24 hour banking system was "...just a tool," and refused to acknowledge any of the inconsistencies in the account agreement. However, she assured me that with the additional steps taken I would not accrue any additional overdraft fees, which I did, though I did not use my account.
Living hand to mouth, several times I was told my account was fine, each time it wasn't. I have been lied to and ignored, the hundreds of dollars in overdraft fees due to negligence on the part of the individual members on my bank. If the way I read the account agreement is correct, I am not responsible for any of the fees, and considering the rampant inconstancies and poor service standard present in their organization, I find their pittant "courtesy" refunds insulting, considering that they have taken at least $700 of my money. at least $750, now I am way behind on all of my expenses. lost sleep, nausea and stress.

I fixed the problem before they posted those transactions! They told me they don't charge fees for pending -but they did and won't give my money back. Because of that my account went in the negative and I was charged for that. They disreguarded their contract that states they do not charge for pending items. I fixed the problem before any negative balance ocurred! My statement still shows no negative except from there fees. I am trying still to get my money back and then I will close that account.

I have never in my life had as bad a consumer experience as I do with US Bank and their practice of overdraft charges, I find it deceptive at best and downright criminal. I now have the proof that US Bank is stealing from me by means of overdrafts. I also did a little research and found numerous consumer complaints regarding this bank. They need to be exposed for their criminal practices. Even when I showed irrefutable proof of their "mistakes" they did nothing to correct them and told me I was wrong.
This bank has over drafted me in the past and so I got Quickbooks for my online banking and assiduously kept on top of it daily along with my US Bank online banking. Every morning, I would check my acct. for transaction postings and match it up with my daily Quickbook entries. Here's where it gets real interesting...On 6/28/08 in the morning I checked my acct. to see where I was dollar wise, and there were four point-of-sales that cleared my acct. dated 6/27/08 the most recent from Vonage posting on my acct. 6/28/08. The other three I had logged into Quickbooks the night before, Vonage being credit card auto pay put me at -$1.27
so that same morning(6/28) I went to my bank and made a cash deposit to cover it. The deposit slip/receipt I got from my bank showed a positive balance and my online acct. showed the same positive balance for 2 more days until 7/1/08 when I had four overdraft charges at $37.50 each. One for the Vonage and the three previous charges that were cleared on 6/27/08. These were changed to 7/1/08 so they could collect three addl. overdrafts. Since I was already suspicious of their deceptive practices from previous overdraft charges months back, on 6/28/08, I decided to copy and paste the online acct. showing that those three previous charges had in fact already cleared my acct. That's the proof I speak of.
So I decided to do a keyword search on Google for "US Bank consumer complaints" and came up with this site being only one out of 393,000 like sites of consumer fraud by this bank and there are literally hundreds and hundreds of similar complaints just on this site alone. Something is terribly wrong here as this bank continues to steal from its own customers and is GETTING AWAY WITH IT! How long will it take before something is done? If there are people reading this right now with the same problem and still have an acct. I strongly advise not to close it yet, because from what I'm reading here, they will Blacklist you into Chexsystems where you wont be able to open an acct. anywhere else.
Also, build as much documentation as you can and if your funds are anywhere near a $ $100.00 above the red, check your online banking every morning and copy & paste that page into MS Word for your own documentation because with proof we can nail these thieves. I'm hoping to get as many people with like stories that will substantiate this criminal practice to see what chance there is at a class action lawsuit. I'm also hoping that with enough complaints we can get an in-depth investigation going with authorities and maybe even the media like CBS's 60 Minutes that will also look into their computer software programs. What else would cause transactions to change from clearing your acct. on one date then three days later posting with a new date that reflects after the overdraft has been deducted that causes all the other overdrafts? Its more than just fishy, this down right crooked. So I hope you all are as fed up as I am enough to do something about it and, maybe, to stop these thieves from doing it to others.

US Bank changed the interest rate I was quoted after I had signed the documentation and mailed it. When I declined the increased amount. They charged me the loan application and home appraisal fees anyways. I really feel that this was a typical bait and switch and was put in a position where I could either lose my $500 or except the increased interest rate. I have attempted to discuss this issue with US Bank since I was only trying to refinance my existing US Bank Mortgage to a 30 yr to a 15 yr mortgage.
$100 loan application fee. $400 Home appraisal fee.

I have been a customer in good standing with US Banks/ Star Bank/ Firstar Bank(s) for 10 years now. I have just witnessed the WORSE customer service traits I have ever seen with an upstanding company as US Bank. I'm in the military - that's my job. I don't do this occupation for the money, so honestly I do in fact watch my income and bills closely. I of course travel A LOT!
Two weeks ago (15-27 June) I traveled to Little Rock, AR. Don't know if any others out there have seen the NUMEROUS US Bank locations down there in Arkansas, but I did. I went to 3 different US Bank ATM's and guess what...my US Bank ATM Card didn't work in any one of the three machines. So I called the 1-800-US Banks phone number and told them that I thought it was pretty weird that my card doesn't work in their own machines, but it seems to work nicely at foreign ATM machines at $2.00 transaction fee per use. Let's see...driving to US Bank location + card not working at THREE branches = WASTE OF TIME AND GAS (well over the $2.00 payback). They refunded me the total fees of $6.00 (3 transactions limit, even though I was down there for 13 days and uh well I needed money).
Second I got numerous missed calls on my cell phone from this number: 651-495-7000, guess what - if I don't recognize the number - I don't answer it. Guess who it was? Oh my friends at US Bank calling to get a feel of customer service from a customer of 10 + years. I told the female about the ATM fee problem - guess what she told me - my magnetic strip must have been bad. So why did it work at the other $2.00 per transaction fee ATM's all over the state of Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and of course where I live, Ohio? Hmm. Go figure, and all I got back was $6.00. Wow.
So anyways I told her that and then I said other than that...no big worries I guess I'm satisfied. She went on to ask some personal questions that had NOTHING to do with my account and CUSTOMER SERVICE. she asked if I owned my own house. What? What does this have to do with my account I asked...she asked if I own real estate...are you seriously asking this. guess what...It wasn't a customer survey call--it was a solicitation! She was trying to sell me a mortgage from Minnesota. I'm in Ohio! Wow!
So I called US Bank to let them know #1: Bottom line up front - your customer service [is bad]! #2: ATM problems. #3: Location of nearest US Bank ATM and the drive (GAS) to the nearest one(s) #4: The call of FAKE CUSTOMER SURVEYING. Guess what I got for answers...#1: "Sorry about that". #2: "Your card shoulda worked at all our US BAnk locations, not just Ohio branches" - like seriously - I would have never known that one. #3: "I've pulled up your Zip Code and there are 2 branches near your house" - uh NO Sh*t...I know and they are well over 10 miles away - just to get a mere $20.00 out. #4: "I have since taken your phone number off our list". I didn't give you the right to call me in the first place...on my cell!
After a 17 minute phone call - which by the way WENT NOWHERE - all I got was SORRY and we sent you a new card so you can drive 10+ miles to get money and not be charged the $2.00 we would charge for a 3 minute drive to a foreign ATM. Also I asked if they offer an account for traveling military personnel that uh, well, don't get stationed next to and holding onto a US BANK ATM MACHINE, well - they don't have any FREE FEE ACCOUNTS.
Guess what. I don't work hard to pay silly little fees and watch my account trickle away back into the bank. Here's the deal...the Army directly deposits MY income into MY account at YOUR bank so you have the luxury of USING MY MONEY...no problem...eat it, taste it, use it, shred it, I don't care...just have it ready when I need it...the amount I put in there, NOT THE AMOUNT AFTER YOUR SILLY LITTLE FEES. I couldn't even get a simple "5 Star $5 sorry payback" from these bananaheads. No worries. PASS THIS ON FRIENDS. Hey US Bank...try this for my customer survey back at ya...I'm withdrawing ALL MY FUNDS. YEP...the checking @ about $1,000, my Savings @ $690.00, and my CD (that you PIGS use daily) @ over $10,000.
Guess what - they didn't even care when I asked them if I had to wait to get my CD in cash to take it to another bank.....nice people huh? Pass this on - tell your friends, don't put your hard-earned money into a silly organization like US Bank. They used to care about thier customers....yeah...used to.

Is that legal to do that? you paid a certain amount for the card shouldn't you be able to use that amount. they are not sending statements or anything.

I looked at my account online on a Wednesday and seen that my account balance was about $165 I decided to make a utility payment which came to about $158, I looked at my account online immediately and it showed me I had about $7 left in there, I decided to go down to the bank and withdraw $5 so that I could get a snack from the vending machine, I again, looked at my account immediately, and it said my balance was $2. Ok I had sent a check in the mail, and didnt expect to clear until Thursday, so that was a big mistake on my end, (notice the scenerio paid utility first then withdrew $5) well I got direct deposit, so that posted the next day Thursday.
I looked online a little later and all of a sudden the series of events of withdrawls completely changed, it said online that I withdrew the $5 first, THEN the check cleared, which made it overdraft, THEN the utiilty payment cleared, SO guess what! I got not only one but 2 over draft fees on my account totalling $75. Who in their right mind would take $5 from their bank account if they knew they were going to be charged $75 in fees right!?!
I called "customer service" and a RUDE representative "Lakeisha" told me that I did not see the events online as they occured and that they were right to charge the fees.. I demanded to talk to a supervisor she said no, and there was nothing else that she could do for me! I feel they manipulated the charges to their advantage to be able to charge fees! $75 come on! Something needs to be done about their rudeness and unfair fee charging. I am withdrawing my funds and stopping my direct deposits, also going to contact the better business bureau.

I quit using us bank because I had problems with their online banking and switched to Washington Mutual, but US Bank did not want me to close my account and continue to try to use their online banking. So the account has been open with a minimal amount of money in it but not used regularly. So anyway I lost my Washington Mututal Bank card and had to pay for a haircut and some gas with my US Bank Card.
The salon accidentally forgot to add my hair spray so they had to do 2 separate transactions. I knew I probably needed to make a deposit to cover these items so I deposited a check the same day. US Bank charged me a $35 overdraft fee for the acutal authorizations even though the deposit made would have covered the actual purchases. Since they charged overdraft fees on the authorizations then the money was not there when they charges we submitted to the bank and they charged me AGAIN $35 for the same items when they hit the bank. so i was charged double fees $70 for each transaction for a total of $210. When the deposit would have covered the whole purchase.
I believe this an unfair practice and was not aware of this new policy that US Bank has. I do not have an extra $210 laying around gas costs me $4.30 a gallon and I live in a rural area so the bank is 20 miles from my house so just to go into the bank to deal with this issue is going to cost me at least $8 in gas then of course the bank is not open while i am off of work so I have to take time off of work unpaid to go talk to the branch manager because they could not resolve this over the phone.

I had a checking account with US Bank. Unauthorized charges were made, fees were applied, I never recieved my statements properly, they would not allow me to close account. At force-close by the bank, they reported my info to collections, credit and Chexsystems.
It has taken two years and the help of outside agencies,(BBB, OCC, FTC and FDIC) to get a response and help from US Bank. The bank now admits that I should never have been responsible for any of the charges and fees, but is only willing to give me $244.00, which I have not seen and was promised a month ago. The account should have been positive $1059.98 at close, but the bank is only willing to admit to $602.45. Of that, they are stealing $358.45 to pay to the collectors for which they have admitted I should have never been responsible to. I have also been promised by the bank that my info would be deleted from credit, collection and Chexsystems, however after double checking with the collectors, this has not been done.
This has caused significant financial damage to me over the last tow years and keeps getting worse. I am lost for $1059.98(account balance), almost $300.00 for costs of attempted recovery and communications, and also denied credit and credit damages caused.

Around the world i never had any bad experiences with Bank, as I had with US Bank. I opened a checking account, and this is really a disaster account. The card allows me to make any transaction without any warning and there was no information given to me when i opened the account. When i checked my balance through the internet banking, it showed that my balance is still positive, but later i found that the bank charged me a 35USD overdraft many times - even for small 1 to 2 USD transaction & without any warning.
This has been the worst banking experience i have ever had in this advance country. I have even top up my account, but the overdraft charged still appeared. Seems that US Bank is purposely creating the system this way to have additional income. There is no way that a customer should manually check every single transaction he/she makes and calculate the balance manually. Besides, regardless the value of the transactions the charge is USD 35 - and i was charged almost 300 USD for transactions that in total were less than 100 USD. I have been around the world and have bank accounts else where in other country and this stupid thing never happened to me. There is no customer protection at all.

So on May 12th I tried to use the card for the exact amt. left on the card after the $1. for the inquirey and the 80% I had used on Apr. 27th. The transaction was denied because it said no money was in the account. When I called a person named Edjo stated the transaction did go through. I explained it did not and I did not get any product. So she told me to contact the business where I tried to use it and have them FAX a statement saying we will not settle because transaction was declined on our end. The person sending the FAX needed to give their name, position, phone # and signature. Now this person tells me she can not send such a FAX until she can find out if indeed her place of business did receive the money from the VISA gift card from US Bank.
When I try to log on to the bank website to see where the money has gone it states I am locked out so it is impossible for me to have any kind of reference of who has the money from this gift card. I tried calling the phone # on the card and was told a $1. fee would be charged to the card if I continued with the call. I inquired about why I could not access any info online and was told to wait 24 hours and try again. I was told if the place of business that does not want to send the FAX does not accept the money in 6 days it will go back on the card.
At any rate it seems to be very difficult to access money the bank has already received when the gift card was purchased. Also I feel the bank hopes the accrss of the money becomes so difficult that one will just give up and forget about using the gift card. Also if the money is not spent in 6 months a $2.50 monthly fee will be charged to the balance of the card each month until a zero balance exists. I urge everyone to not purchase VISA gift cards.

On 4/27/08 (Sunday) I made an ATM deposit of $550 at this location. Next day (4/28/08) when they were open they posted the deposit to my account. I checked online to make sure everything posted right and that it was not still pending as it is a completely different matter if the deposit is still pending. But it was not pending so I proceeded to make purchases as usual. A while ago I have set up account email alerts (One when my balance is less then $50, and the second one when the account is at a negative) because I had problems with US bank before. On 4/30/08 I received an email alert stating I had a negative balance of -$114.02. Since depositing the check I have spent only $130.91.
When I checked online I saw that this branch that has cleared the deposit couple of days before has reversed the $550 deposit. The check was from my mom and there was nothing wrong with it; it was written correctly, endorsed correctly and had plenty of funds in the account to cover it. As soon as I found out on 5/1/08 I called to find out what had happened (at that time I had not been assessed the $37.50 overdraft fee) the person I talked to had to do some serious digging to find out what had happened. I was on hold for a total of about 20 minutes which was actually fine with me because I needed to clear this bank error up. The rep was very helpful trying to sort this issue out and after we got accidentally disconnected she looked up my number and called me right back. But as this issue was eluding the rep she asked if she could call me back today or tomorrow when she investigates the cause of my deposit being reversed.
I agreed and early next day I received a call from her stating that the reason why the deposit was reversed was because it was a starter check that was deposited through an ATM (and that supposedly was not accepted by US Bank). My mom had found her old starter checks and not wanting to waist them she used it to write me a check with it. Here is the irony though; I ALWAYS make ATM deposits and have actually deposited the same starter checks (2 to be specific) from her before and NEVER had a problem.
At this time 5/2/08 they have posted a PENDING $37.50 overdraft fee because I still had a negative balance. The rep told me to call the Northlake Office US Branch and find out what they will do. (FYI. I made the deposit on my way out of Chicago from visiting my mom going back to school in Bloomington/Normal IL where I live as I didn't feel safe having that check on me.) I called the branch at around 11am the first time and talked to a teller that told me he doesn't have authorization to take the deposit back and reverse the fee but that that is the possibility but I have to talk to a bank specialist but they are all busy so he can't connect me with any of them but he will give them the message. I stressed the importance of getting in touch with them asap as I didn't want more fees. I called again around 1pm and talked to a different teller and again explained the situation and repeatedly got transfered to voice mails so I left a message stressing I talk to someone asap. At around 2pm I called again because if they were not going to take the deposit I needed to know right now since my sister was taking a lunch break during which she could make a deposit at a Chicago US Bank location to cover my account. If I didn't find out right now she would not be able to make a deposit until next day and I know I would be assessed another 37.50 fee. I asked her to wait until 2:30pm and tried getting in touch with a banker again and again I was talking to the first teller (young male with a Hispanic accent) and when I explained what was going on he bluntly said that bank specialists are all busy and they can't make the customers at the bank wait and take my call instead.
I was shocked and at that point I asked my sister to make $300 deposit and I was not going to ask them to take back the $550 deposit back instead just ask them to reverse the $37.50 overdraft fee as the rep told me to ask them to do and have my mom send me another check. Today is Saturday 5/3/08 the bank is now closed and after not being able to get through again and not receiving a phone call from the message I left yesterday I am finally fed up with this bank and their hidden/changing policies and outrageous fees. I will make a complaint to US Bank headquarters as well I just want to let others know and make a record of this incident with you as well.

My credit was so ruined by this I was unable to open an account else where. Long story short the last incident was a bounced electronic check for $250.000 with astronomical fees.
I was called and threatened to be taken to court immediately because I did not have $1200. I bounced only $250 and am being charged $1200. These debt collectors even refused to tell me what exactly the fees were and which incidences. None of my complaints were handled correctly with their fraud department or the management at their office. They even failed to notify me of anything. They were calling the wrong phone number and mailing stuff to the wrong address.

After doing a deposit at a usbank branch. I requested that the teller let me know that if the deposit that I was doing would bring my account to a current balance. At this time there were no overdraft fees. These were transactions that were posting that day. When I got home I check my account online to confirm that the account was no longer in a negative. Which it was not. Later on that night (same day). I decided to check on my account. I had problems before. Thats when I saw that the account was now in the negative. Not sure if the deposit that I did was going to cover this. I went in to the bank to do a 20 dollar deposit. This would bring my account into the positive again.
Here it is Monday and there are two negative charges. When I called ant talked to the customer service rep. She repeat ably talked over me. Would not listen to me in any way. Led me to believe that she is there to pick up the phone and thats it. I requested that I get transferred to a manager and was given to a person at the branch that I opened my account at. At that time Brook Martinez stated that there are certain transactions that the bank does not have to post. This is a malicious way to cause an over draft charge. A person would think that the bank would give the customer the benefit of the doubt and post the transaction to give the customer a chance to fight the charge. If needed. All other transactions post. But instead they charge your account. Brook went on to say that not all transactions are posted the day that it is suppose to clear and that tellers cannot not see pending actions against the account in question. But something or someone else can. Thats how the bank knows to post the transaction.
I do not recommend this bank for anything. I am currently going to find a different bank to work with and continue to let people know about the way this bank works. I am tempted to keep this bank account so I can inform people about how they function. Brook went on to tell me that the current status of the usbank system is not up to standards when it come to posting transactions and that she does not care about any hard ships that this may cause. As far as Im concerned. She is speaking for the bank.

I financed a new car Jan. 2006 and wating for reimbursement from a car accident did not put down any money. I made one regular payment in Feb. of 795.92 and in March sent 20,000 from the settlement from the car accident as my previous car was totaled. I thought that prepaid me for two years. But this March when I inquired for a payoff, I was informed I owed 22,970.20 and to add 3.60 for each day I did not pay.
I am still very confused. I was informed they could not charge me interest ahead for the two years but that they could now charge me interest for the last two years. The even sent me a letter which I don't understand. I agree I should be responsible for some interest, but over two thousand dollars? The original loan was for 40,688.50 with a simple interest of 6.49 and no penalties for payoff. I did not end up paying off and received a bill due April 1 2009 for interest due 689.84 which I paid because I did not want to be considered delinquent. I had calculated if I put that money in the bank and made monthly payments, I could have paid it until May 1, 2009. I would appreciate your consideration.

Our payments were late 3 times during November, January, and then March. I had been unable to find time employment but we continued to pay our payments. They were never 30 days late and most of the time less than 10 days. However, our original interest rate was 7% and we transferred balances to reduce our other credit card payments. The original payment was only $71.00 and helped reduce our overall debt. However, the payment skyrocketed this month to $248.00 with a 31.24% Interest Rate.
I didn't think this type of interest was even legal. I called to try and talk to them but they completely ignored everything I had to say.
During an already stressful time this caused undue duress on my husband and family. We were very frustrated with this situation and did not understand what happened to us or why.

We have been charged nearly $600 in fees and overdraft charges! We went in to rectify this because we thought this was extreme and tried to explain our situation, but to no avail. We were in the process of closing this account and this has been another confirming reason. We opened this account 2 years ago and we HATED it from the beginning. I am not sure who does their customer service training but it is relentless and they are definitely more interested in the law or rules than service. They said this is what they can legally do and they will do it. We have NEVER been overdrawn! I even called the 800 number to get an address to write a letter to and the lady gave me such a hard time and was just as rude as the people at the bank. I will NEVER bank there again and all of my children have closed their accounts as well. I am not sure what to do now, we still owe $400 and we can't close our accounts until we make this right.

Also on Saturday 3/22/08 I made a deposit of 100.00 late in the afternoon, brings the total balance to 153.76. From that as noted in the bank web site print out was to pay for the 20.00 x 2 with draws for cash and 2 Debit charges of 25.00 and 7.54. This would leave a balance of 81.22. On Monday I deposited 534.20 (please take note of the date and time on the included ATM slip stating date of deposit of 3/24/08 and date of posting of 3/24/08 at 12:38 PM, it also shows date of posting in the bank web site print out of 3/24/08. Apparently a check of 292.70 was posted on 3/24/08 as to my surprised was posted prior to the small amounts stated above and that the 534.20 was not made available by the night of the 24th. (I say surprised, but i should not be as USBank has done this to me more times then I can count.)
By the bank posting the large check prior to crediting or making sure all deposits were posted first caused numerous over drafts as you can see in the web site print out included. I was charged 37.50 for each of the smaller amounts even though there was more then enough to cover them. And they were done well before the 292.70 check which was posted. Those should have taken priority. Even enough to cover the 292.70 check if they would have insured all deposits were posted before the check was posted. Whats' more each day that i do not cover all these over drafts i am charged 8 dollars. I am now nearly 300.00 in over draft fees. I use Quickbooks and download data from the USBank web site to update my system. Quickbooks does not show me as over drafting.
I mentioned this to the Asst. Manager Jo, at USBank and she brushed it off stating Quickbooks does all deposits first and debits after. I then asked well what good is the data from your web site to update my Quickbooks when your bank does not follow the same rules. She stated we do all deductions before we do deposits and we do larger amounts first. I said doing it this way creates a lot of over draft fees with not only me but many others i am sure. You claim to have a free checking account but your more expensive then any bank i have had an account with. Quickbooks at this time is not an issue what the issue is dates and times. When an ATM slip states posting date of and then the deposit is not posted as stated on the ATM slip is a serious problem. Yet on the weekend when you get a ATM slip it does state the posting date of the next business day.
Have charged me nearly 300 in fees for over drafts. This is not the first time but is going to be the last. I have filed a complaint with the OCC and faxed off all supporting documents. Everyone on this site who has complained about USBank needs to do the same.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time USBank has done this to me, but I promise it is the last! March 11 2008 I had $99.00 in my USBank account. This same day, I deposited $3346.14 into my account which was my federal tax refund. I was in a car wreck 3 weeks earlier and so I immediately needed a cashiers check for $2300 for a car that I was purchasing, which left me with $1138.14 left over. I had almost $100 available to me before I made this large deposit from my tax refund so continued on with life as tho these funds were still mine. Well, not according to USBank. Suddenly, all of the funds in my account were not available, however there was over $500 showing in the available balance when I went online to check it. I went about life as normal spending only what I thought was available and trusting that my funds would be available to me within a few days. I went back to check my account on March 21, 2008 and was in for a serious shock. My account was overdrawn by almost $200!
How could this be? I will tell you how... US Bank decided that even tho the funds WERE there and clearly should have available after 10 days, they had charged me 6 overdraft fees. I even had a small $287 child support payment direct deposited (which is supposed to be immediately available) and even with all of this money coming through their bank from my deposits, they still overdrew my account and have been unwilling to reverse anything. I was told as so many other people have been told, that when it shows in blue, the funds are not yet available... well, after 10 days.... WHY is my own money not available to me?
So now, being a single mother of 5 kids with a very SMALL child support payment which US Bank has stolen, I have been forced to ask for outside help. USBank does not care about their customers nor their situations. They see a sizable deposit come in and they hold your funds until they can claim you overdrawn. According to my calculations, After all of the purchases made, including the CS deposit, I should still have at least $510.59 which was our food money for 2 weeks, plus the $222.02 I needed and CHARGED for registration of my car.
I should NEVER have been overdrawn a dime with as much as had been deposited into my account. If I could warn anyone about the shotty practices of US Bank and avoid them any undue trauma, then this might all be worth the trouble.

U.S. Bank Caught! Alleged Insurance Fraud! U.S. Bank Phone: 800-USBANKS Fax: 513-632-2424 Minneapolis, MN
On Feb. 7, 2008, our 2003 Ford Focus Wagon was stolen. First question out of the 911 operator's mouth was; 'Were we in default?' I said; 'No!' Just to make sure there wasn't some bureaucratic mix-up, I called U.S. Bank Customer Service, TWICE! The second time was while the sheriff deputy was here making out the stolen vehicle report. In fact, when I called the second time, the rep wanted to assure me that 'nothing in your file remotely suggests a repo!' My payments were current. At this point, my wife and I were scared. We were worried that serious crime had now worked its way from the city to our little country village. We waited ten days for the insurance paperwork and the mandatory two weeks to declare it officially stolen. At this point the claim was settled with our auto insurance company, titles and keys sent to the insurance agent, and checks addressed to U.S. Bank and to myself. But hold it! Why the difference in the pay-off I received on Feb. 13, 2008 and Feb 29th? I called U.S. Bank to find out why.
At this point, I was suddenly referred to their 'repo' department! Things started to unravel for U.S. Bank. I screamed up and down that 'you lied to us and misled the insurance company!' They declared that because of my Chapter Seven bankruptcy in 2005, they could repossess my car at any time for any reason. This actually is not true, since an exemption was placed on the vehicle, OK'ed by the U.S. District judge and payments continued as usual. With our car gone, we dipped into savings and purchased another. However, if U.S. Bank is claiming the Focus was discharged, and we were paying on the security of the vehicle, then we owe no money. Luckily, the auto insurance company stopped the check before they cashed it.
But U.S. Bank was willfully and knowingly COOPERATING with our insurance company just as if this was a stolen vehicle! We still do consider it a stolen vehicle. If we find a 'repo' in our credit report, I am going to have it changed to 'Discharged Under Bankruptcy' since I have a letter from U.S. Bank that mistakenly claims this. I just hope they don't bring the car back and dump it in our yard! They stole it, in our family's opinion, so they are now the proud owners of a 2003 Ford Focus. We just love our NEW Pontiac G-6! But watch it folks! If you've gone through Chapter 7, they might take off with your car and then let the insurance company pay for it!

I have received this monetary award for thirty-five (35) years. US Bank will not credit my account until after 3 p.m. on the first of the month, when the funds are in the account by the 31st or 29th of the month. If I make any purchases before 3 p.m., I am charged an overdraft fee. I have nothing to live on this month and cannot purchase my prescriptions, pay rent, buy food or even gas to get to my physicians, etc. I do not have check writing privileges nor do I own paper checks. I only have a Debit ATM Card. To date, US Bank has intercepted and confiscated my March 2008 VA payment, and has assessed my account $583.00 in fees. The total purchases to my account are $1546.90. (Two charges I disputed because I did not make the purchase, but US Bank put this non-pin purchase on my account on 2/1/08 after my deposit, then assessed me an overdraft charge of $31.00.) They did not apply this credit until February 27, 1008.
My total deposits for the month of February 2008: $2803.00. I took two Checking Advances on my account in the amount of $500. The Checking Advances turned into Checking Loans, which US Bank charged me $50.00 for 18 days! The loan repayment was not to be due until March 17 and March 21, 2008. US Bank removed my funds on March 1, 2008! Each time I would take the advance, US Bank sucked it up with erroneous and continual Overdraft Fees! Purchases (debits) are not credited to account until four days later. When I asked Rochelle, US Bank Specialist, about this, I was told that it took that long for the "paperwork" to get to them before they could post to my account. I spoke with Lisa on 2/24/08, and Lisa stated that she would send me the Dispute forms for alleged charges against my account. I never received them. I spoke with Devin on 2/28/08 regarding the forms not arriving, and he told me that the merchants had already refunded my money and it was posted to my account. I asked him which merchants, and he told me all he could see was Walgreens for $3.
The Over Draft charges were not reversed. On March 1, 2008, I went to the ATM, and my card was frozen; and the message said I was performing an illegal action. When I called and spoke with Brian, he told me that it was because of the Overdraft Charges on my account. When I went to US BANK to withdraw my money and close the account, US Bank had taken taken another $550.00 from my account! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at my February Statement to see the manipulation and trickery of US Bank in the way they post credit and debits in order to generate more fees!
I cannot pay my rent, utilities, buy food, buy my prescriptions, feed my grandchildren, purchase gas to get to my doctor appointments.

The same old rant: Their fees, overdraft fees on pending transactions, are ridiculous. It's just a way for the bank to make money, and basically steal ours. The laws on overdraft fees need to be changed.
The fact is that our money--the money we make--is not available for use when deposited. Because of their fees, the middle income and lower income bracket people do not have enough money for the important things like feeding their children. Not everyone has a savings account and can wait 3 days for their paychecks. This interferes with providing for one's family and having any control over one's own income. The banking systems are taking too many liberties at the expense of their customers...and the law allows it. It has to stop.

In early '07 I had a checking account and savings account open with US Bank. I wrote a check to my landlord for rent and the check was returned. My paycheck, although received by US Bank, had not cleared when the Check was processed. Ironically, the Paycheck was being drawn against an account held by the same branch. An NSF fee was assessed to my account. My landlord contacted me to inform me that the check had been returned. As the funds appeared on my online balance, I went to speak with a representative at the branch I opened the account at. I spoke with a young man and explained my situation. He apologized for the NSF fee and removed it from my account. I explained to him that my landlord no longer felt safe receiving a check from me and had requested some other form of secured payment. The representative suggested that I pay a fee to have a teller's check written for me. On his suggestion I removed the funds from my account, purchased a certified check and delivered it to my landlord in person.
Two days later my landlord's financial institution resubmitted the original check for another attempt at processing. This time US Bank released the funds to my landlord's account. At this point, after removing funds to purchase and create the certified check, my checking account balance was around $200. My rent check was close to $700. This placed my balance grossly in the negative and paid my rent twice. I became aware of this several days later when reviewing my online account. I noticed that there were several fees assessed to my account for NSF from multiple daily transactions on my debit card. I still don't understand why this transactions was allowed to occur when my balance was so far negative. I spoke to the same young man at the branch about this problem and explained that the course of action he suggested did not account for a banking legality that I was not aware of. The ability for a financial institution to process a check twice in case of initial denial. He argued that it was not the bank's responsibility to provide me legal sound advice. After some argument he agreed that he would wave only part of the fees assessed to my account. He also stipulated that I must return the fees owed to my account. Unfortunately for me, my landlord was extremely difficult to get a hold of. Would not respond to my phone messages or email attempts after repeated days. This was not uncommon of him and I was fearful that the situation would digress because of his flaky nature. Sure enough I was not fast enough and my account was closed days later.
I attempted to use my next paycheck to pay off the charges owed to the account and have it reinstated but I did not have enough money to pay off the mountain of fees that had been assessed to the account. Also, since the account had been closed I saw the level of bureaucratic neglect sharply increase. The people I spoke with on the phone were completely against the idea of freezing or suspending the account so that I could make up ground. No assistance was offered, only the acceptance of payment in full amount owed. At this point, 2 months later. I finally gave up.
I have since been without a bank account and have virtually no access to commercial banking institutions. I am listed in ChexSystems for Cause. I am currently seeking legal help to be removed from ChexSystems.

The only way not to be charged for the excess wear and tear is to fax the receipts of the repairs.
I explained to the consultant that I did not have receipts for some of the repairs because I took care of some of the items myself.( E.G. low collant) The consultant said I could not do that and if the receipts were not faxed to U.S. Bank within a few weeks the bill will go into collections. Two years ago, I opened up a credit card account with US Bank to start a Mary Kay business during my fourth year of college. I opened the account over the telephone with the help of my Mary Kay director. Each month I was on time with the payments. However, I was late on one monthly payment because the business was not going well and I was still looking for steady, part-time employment. But when I got the money to pay the bill, I sent it in and was on time with the other payments.
However, in September of 2006, I looked online to check my account and my credit limit was reduced by $100. I noticed that this was done coincidentally after I was finally more than $100 under my credit limit of $2000. Around this time, I lost my job and couldn't afford the monthly payments.
Because I could no longer afford the monthly payments, I was over my limit and they began to put monsterous charges on my account. I was double charged over the limit fees and late fees and was eventually hundreds of dollars over my credit limit. I feel that they took advantage of me because I am a college student who was just establishing credit.
This has caused me a lot of damage economically, physically and has even affected my relationship with my family. For example, this company informed my mother about my credit card situation, which she immediately confronted me about. I didn't think that credit card companies were supposed to inform family members about credit card bills.
I have even gone to a counselor on campus to discuss how depressed I have been about this situation and how it has affected my relationship with my family. My hair was even falling out due to the stress this was causing me, which I told my counselor.
I also feel that my employment opportunities may be limited since I learned that many employers conduct background checks on applicants, which may include credit checks as well. Because of the action that US Bank has taken with my account, I feel that my credit is in trouble and may affect my ability to be independent even years after I graduate from college.

After all credits and debits being blocked from my account someone was still able to access my balance from an ATM and my account was charged $1.50. They did refund this as well.
I am more concerned that this was even allowed; all the activity should have been blocked. Once all my money was back in my account, I immediately closed my account with them on 10/22/07. Before closing my account I was assured my paycheck direct deposit would be rejected and sent back to my employer. We have had the same experiences as many I have read. My son had an account with US Bank. He was showing a positive balance on their internet banking site, followed by an over draft charge. Over a short period of a few months, US Bank stole close to $1000.00 in fees from my son's account. He called them, We wrote to them, He closed his account, they even returned some of the fees because of thier errors. Which by the way was very hard to explain to them, mostly because they don't listen, or won't consider they make mistakes.
Now after a few months of peace and quiet, they have decided my son still owes them money and because he changed his phone number, they can no longer reach him. Thier solution to this problem? They have started calling me at home. They got my number through an internet search or bought it off of a list. They have made the connection some how between me and my son.( which they deny)
I have told them he does not live at home, I have ask them to stop calling me. I have turn them into the BBB twice.(both times the case was closed, when I didn't accept thier response) I have tried everything and they will not stop.
