5/3 has charged me a $5 "dormant fee" on my "Totally Free Business Checking", which is ironic and an oxymoron. To reactivate I have to stop by a branch and make a deposit! So, do we think my money isn't earning 5/3 interest, and don't we call dormant money savings w/interest! The only reason for the account was it provided a MasterCard, my primary bank Charles Schwab pays me for banking with them and provides a Visa debt card, which doesn't work with some car rental companies. So in Boston had to rent a car and my MasterCard is declined! BIG PICTURE, if anyone leaves money in a 5/3 bank account, and forgets about it, or isn't actively using it, 5/3 will steal your money for themselves!

I transferred money from one of my Fifth Third accounts into another one on 7/9/18. I didn't realize at the time that the bank had closed the account I transferred the money to. A few days later I went in to look at my accounts and saw it had been closed, but the transfer was still pending. I waited a couple more days and figured the money would be put back into the originating account, but it was not.
I called Fifth Third on 7/13/18 and they started the process (or so I thought) to get the funds back. I was told it would take 1-2 business days. I checked my account on 7/15/18, but the funds were not there. I called again and was told that they had to do some investigating to see where the funds were... so they lost my money??? No one could give me any answers as to where or how long it would take the get the money back. In the mean time, bills I wanted to pay using this money were not paid and I was accruing late fees, late fees that, of course, Fifth Third would not reimburse me for.
I was told it would take another few days and that they would call me back to give me the status. Of course, no one called me back so I called back yet again. This time I spoke with a guy named Drey who insulted me by saying that it was not that big of a deal and it wasn't that much money. Maybe not to him because it wasn't HIS money. How dare he say that!!! I spoke with another supervisor by the name of Vivacia who told me she had to do more research because there was no update in their system. I was told again it would take a couple more days and she would get back to me. She did call me on 7/20/18, but just left a message to call me back and did not give me any status.
As of 7/20/18, no money back in my account. I called her back and left her a message, but she never called me back. I called again on 7/21/18 and again was told that there was no update and that they were sorry it was taking this long, but still no money back in my account. This time I was told that the original request was done incorrectly!! It takes 30 second to do a transfer, but it takes 12+ days to get your money back. They don't care that I need this money to pay bills! It is pretty said that a banking institution cannot find my money in their system. I have lost all faith in them and as soon as I get my money back, I will be withdrawing all my funds and finding a more reputable bank to trust my money with! DO NOT USE Fifth Third!!

Horrible, Horrible bank. They repoed my car because there was "no proof" of insurance. Once I submitted all the paperwork to them showing that my car had in fact been insured the whole time they still demanded me to pay $2,124.00 to them to have my car released. $395 for the towing, and all the rest in fees, stating they had added on an extra $200.00 each month for their own insurance since they were unaware that I had insurance for those months. I sent the $2,000.00 payment, called the towing place to pick my car and was told by the tow company not the bank, that they had received the instructions to send my vehicle to an auction. AFTER I HAD ALREADY PAID THE 2,000.00 DOLLARS. Completely unethical. I will tell any and everybody that I can about the service I received from this company. BY FAR THE WORST BANK I HAVE EVER DONE BUSINESS WITH!!!

Since May 11, 2018, I have done nothing but argue with 5/3 Bank over unauthorized charges and overdraft fees. I was told by the Dispute Dept., that since I was a valued customer, a temporary credit would be issued to my account in 2-4 business days. I called 2 days later to find out the status and was told my dispute was denied. I was told I had to fax a letter to reopen the dispute and explain why. I went to Office Depot and faxed the letter then called to confirm they received it and was told it would take an additional 30 days for a decision to be made. First, I was told after 2 weeks it was denied, then 2 days later a decision had not been made. In the middle of this, they cancelled the original card and reissued a new one. I activated it and the next morning, I received a text from the Fraud Dept., stating there was a fraudulent charge on my card.
I called them and once again they cancelled my card and said they would order a new one. In the meantime I was told to go to the local branch and get a temporary card, which I did, the problem being no one explained that it was a prepaid card. Angry was an understatement. During this whole process, I kept receiving overdraft charges and the monies that were direct deposited were applied to all these charges, so my account has been at a negative balance for 2 months now and they have taken over $2,000.00 in charges. I did not have money to fill my daily medications I needed or to pay my bills. When I was told two weeks ago it was denied again, I was told to go back to the place of business and get my money back from them. I called the business and they told me it was the bank's responsibility.
After several calls, the business had gone back and checked their cameras and wrote a letter stating that there were, no checks, credit card or debit card transactions for the day in question. I also had a letter from my doctor showing that May 11, was my first day back to work. I faxed this to 5/3 in the hopes that this would finally be resolved, but they denied it again. I went to another bank to open a new account and was told I could not get a Checking Account due to the fact that Chex Systems and Early Warnings had been informed of all the overdraft charges, so.it would be 1 year before I could get a Checking account. I have also been reported to the credit bureaus for late payments since there was no money in my account to pay my bills. Everyone you speak to at 5/3 Bank has a script that they read from verbatim.
Ask for a manager you are put on hold for a period of time and you maybe talk to a manager or simply be disconnected. I was working on getting my credit score to improve during this time, so all that has been in vain. Do not do business with this bank. They will lie to you over and over again, make you jump through hoops and still deny your dispute, even though you have proof. Their Dispute Dept., sits at their desks and does absolutely nothing to help. You have to do all the work. I am hoping this week to finally close this account as my direct deposit will be there tomorrow and it will be at a positive balance.
Updated on 07/24/2018: Today, July 24, 2018, I sent an email to the office of the President of Fifth Third Bank. I asked if they could review my account one more time as I was looking for the unauthorized charges and 1/2 of the overdraft fees returned. I received a call from the Assistant to the President and was first told they do not respond to emails. Secondly, their decision stood as they will not reimburse the unauthorized charges and were not able to refund me anything on the fees. So now I am moving forward with the local news and their investigative team.
In speaking to a former manager from 5/3 Bank, they had parted ways as they were asked to do things they were not comfortable with. For me it comes down to this, how unethical is 5/3 Bank? I had posted on 5/3's Facebook page that the CEO and Executive Officers should be charged with fraud and given jail sentences.Needless to say my post was taken down immediately after being posted. It bothers me that they have done this to me, yet there are people out there worse off than myself that are treated this way, and to me that's outrageous.
5/3 and MB Financial are merging. I wonder if the customers at MB Financial have a clue as to what's in store for them with their bank now. I will update when I see where the next leg of my journey takes me with 5/3 Bank. There are 779 complaints/comments on this website. Why is it the FDIC/FTC someone in authority is not investigating them? Please warn your family and friends not to bank with 5/3, so they don't end up in the same situation!

A customer traded her $18,000.00 car for another car from my dealership on June 6th 2018. Her trade in had a lien with Fifth Third Bank. She paid off her loan before the end of May. She contacted the Loan Dept of Fifth Third and they told her that the process will take ten days for the title of her vehicle to be released. She called them back after 2 weeks, they told her that there was a system error and that it will still take another 10 days for the title to be released. Around June 18th, she called them again, they told her that there was a system error and her account was paid off completely by June 11th. But for some unknown reason, the process hasn't started yet and that it will take another ten days for the title to be released.
Today, June 28th, 2018, she got in touch with them again and they told her that there was still a system error, and the process will take another 10 days. While I was on a 3 way calling with the customer and a customer service agent from the loan department, I was told that I can't even get a fax explaining the situation before 2 business days. I asked to speak to her manager from the Title Department. The agent simply hung up.
I called them up again. I was transferred from one department to another and while I was explaining the situation for the second time during this call to a person by the name of Derick. He hangs up on me. It is really putting my business in a very tough situation when this much money is held and we don't have access to it. Businesses live on cash flow and this is making it very tough since I can't sell the car where at least 6 customers came in wanting to buy the car nor could I borrow the money from the lending company to have this needed cash flow. This is the worst bank and the worst customer service. I spoke to two different customer service agents and both hung the phone on me. I need help to have the title in the next 3 to 4 days. And I will sue them for their negligence. They might put me out of business if this doesn't get resolved right away.

So after $637.58 in daily overdraft fees on a secondary account I have on my business, I noticed that Fifth Third covered a $12.99 automatic debit from that account, that should not have been paid, as I do not have overdraft protection nor do I keep money in this account. I basically keep this account open as a backup in case Wells Fargo decides to play games with me again.
Anyways, Fifth Third is the worst. My experience is the same as others on here. I don't know about other cities and states, but in North Carolina, they only have one banker in each branch, about 4-5 people waiting to speak to this banker, and then the banker has absolutely no authority over the computer system. Then their customer service is 9-5 central time Monday thru Friday, so if you work at that time, good luck getting hold of someone on your lunch break. The absolute worst bank in the country. Their slogan a Fifth Third better means they'll charge you 166% interest from my experience. The monthly fee is different every month, no fee schedule on your online banking, and then an hour to wait for a banker to see it. Stay Away!

This bank purchased my loan. So I did not choose to do business with them nor do I have any choice whatsoever. Very sad indeed as their website and supposed phone support is practically useless. After my horrible experience, I would advise that no one banks with this company if they can help it. Their phone service and prompts are redundant and useless. I had to call them 4 times and be placed on hold over 30 minutes each time and eventually disconnected each time. The 5th call - I actually got a person who simply told me they would mail me a form. Are you kidding me? If it is a form that I have to fill out and then mail in, why not make that blank form downloadable and printable online? Why make a customer wait on hold 4 times for 30 minutes to simply get a form???

This bank has been charging me overdrafts and returning my checks with the money in the bank. They shut down my checking account, while turning my savings account into a checking account. March I was overdrawn by over 1000 dollars and I have my tax check and paychecks deposited into my account. They shut down my account in April without notification and then 2 weeks later I got a letter from a creditor... I have had direct deposit, and checking accounts with these people for years. I have had to shut the accounts down 2 times due to my account being compromised... I finally went to Wells Fargo and they were horrible. So, I tried to chose between the lesser of 2 evils. Fifth Third owes me money... And are trying to send me to the creditors. What legal help can I get.

They are saying now the policy has been changed it has to be maintained for 90 days. This is a kind of cheating by 53 Bank to attract the customer. Although people who work there are usually nice, there are 3 MAJOR ISSUES that I experienced: 1) Very low mobile check deposit limit: $2500. 2) They CHARGE BACK mobile deposit checks for SPELLING OF PAYEE!! (ridiculous). 3) There is NO WIRE by phone or fax and it takes TWO DAYS - TWO TRIPS to branch to even authorize a wire if they do NOT have enough managers to approve the first time. The banker felt so bad for me after 25 calls I had to make to just wire the funds... he actually made a trip to meet me to resign the wire. 4) Bill pay is ridiculous. It's been 30 days since I sent my mortgage check and it's nowhere to be found! I requested a trace 20 days ago - they asked me for endless information - such as payee details etc - I provided it all - and they just never resolved the issue REFUSING TO express a replacement or to WIRE the funds. In January 2018 my account had a hold placed on it by the bank for questionable activity. When I contacted the bank they had questions about 3 debits made in Chicago Illinois. They immediately removed 2 of the charges and opened a dispute for the $400 that was made at a 123 Wireless. I received a letter in April 2018 stating that the dispute was denied because the card used in the purchases had a chip which prevented any possibility of fraud. I then had the case reopened because the debit card I had at that time did not have a chip in it. I didn’t receive a card with a chip until I received the replacement for the card that was closed for the fraudulent activity. I faxed a letter with the request and the evidence provided.
I received another letter in May of 2018 stating that the resolution stood and they would not be refunding the money. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with 2 departments and spoke with a dispute specialist who explained that there was nothing else that could be done. She offered no explanation and stated that she wasn’t allowed to offer advice on any further steps that could be taken. I explained that the card did not have a chip and she suggested that if I still had that card I could take a picture of it and send in as evidence. I was instructed to destroy that card immediately when the fraudulent activity occurred. I am currently out $400 and have no recourse with this bank. I was at work at the hospital the day the charges were made and my card was in my possession. I have lost all faith and trust in this banking institution.
There is no real protection for consumers when it comes to identity theft. I submitted this review in the event others come across the same situation. These companies are entrusted with keeping our finances safe yet they treat their customers like criminals when a situation arises requiring them to honor the claims they make.

Starting in 2017 I went into the Orlando branch on Conroy, asking for guidance on what I needed to do to get the PMI removed from my loan. She made calls and said I would receive information within 10 days. I never received anything. In November, I went to the branch in Lakeland Florida, spoke with the manager who explained, I'll just click this bottom here to request a cancelation and we will see what happens. I waited till December, again I received nothing. I called customer support who explained I needed to fax a letter requesting it be removed. I did that in December. Still no letter explaining what was happening. In February I went in to the Lakeland branch again. They said the problem could be I’m at 86% paid and not 80%. I explained if that is the exact reason I will make the extra payment to be at 80% but I want a letter explaining that.
We again clicked to cancel PMI and sent in the fax. NO LETTER. I called in March and this time was told the reason is I have to make payments for 5 years, so May 1st, 2018 I could apply and it should be taken off. May 16th, I went in AGAIN, requested PMI to be canceled. Faxed in my letter. NO LETTER. I called today and was told They see all the rejection letters were sent explaining I need to be at 78% paid. I then explained to them I received not ONE single letter back from all my attempts over the last year and now she is telling me I need to be at 78% when this whole time I’ve been told 80%.
She said by Friday I should have a clear answer and a letter will be sent. This has been the worst customer service and shows a complete lack of knowledge by your branches and your call center. If I do not get a letter or an exact reason so that I can complete what needs to be done to have this removed I will be forwarding my complaint to the Federal Reserve Consumer Complaint Department.

They offer promotion does not mean you will receive it! They have many tricks to tell, you are not qualified. I opened an account and supposed to receive the promotion after 45 days. When I did not receive that, I called them three times. Every time they replied me and said you will receive after 10 days. Then I called after 55 days but this time they said you did not qualify. Did I ask why? They said because a monthly fee $8 has taken from your account which reduced my balance. I asked no bank will charge a monthly fee in the first statement because this time customer usually opens an account.
They agreed with me that they did not charge me for the first statement. However, they did a trick. They actually issued me a monthly statement after 7 days of opening the account then they issued another statement after 29 days. This is how they showed two statements and charge my account and disqualified me from the promotion. I asked, how can you issue a statement after 7 days, they did not give me any logical reply only repeated they are following terms and condition. Note that, when I saw that my account was charged a monthly fee $8, I deposited $8 instantly on the same day to make the total balance correct but they did not accept that to make me qualify for the promotion. Be careful from Fifth Third promotion offer. Search online this bank has the worst customer review. I lost my trust to this bank and closed my account. We took out an auto loan for a new car in September 2017. In February 2017 we went online and found out the remaining balance and sent them a check for the total remaining balance. Three months later we have no car title and I called to find out what’s going on. They tell me I have a remaining balance of $72.72 because the pay off that I sent went towards principle with the $72.72 going towards interest on the loan. I told them that I had gotten a pay off online and then I sent them a check for the full pay off. They did not care nor were they going to credit me the interest back. I then told them that doing this show that they had absolutely no concern for a good customer. They didn’t care. I told them based on how they would handle the situation would determine whether or not I would ever do business with them again. They didn’t care.
So now what I will do is send them a check for $73. This should mess up their computer system a little bit showing I have a credit on the account. I’m guessing several months of paperwork and then having to cut and process a check for $.28 will get me the $72.72 worth of service from them that they need to provide me with. Word of advice. NEVER do business with this bank. NEVER!!!

Over the last year I have probably received about four debit cards because somehow there may have been a security breach at a merchant that could have compromised my account. FOUR TIMES! Just me; not my wife's. Just me. Now I don't go to any odd places out of the ordinary, just gas stations, normal stores, and that's it. So after four times I call 5th Third, and ask, "Can you tell me what merchant this is, so I can avoid going there?" They say that they are just a call center, they can't give me that information. "WELL. Can you find out where I can get that information?"
They come back saying that the card just gets automatically sent out by 5th 3rd security when there's a security breach. I ask how to contact them... They are, from the way the lady explained, some ghost entity in 5th 3rd, that has no phone number, and no one has any way of contacting them. They just exist out there in space somewhere, and no one has access to them. So NO, I can NOT talk to them... I find this very hard to believe that there is not a human; at least one, behind the system that detects security breaches involving debit cards. So therefore I still have no idea where I need to avoid going to keep from getting my card from getting hacked, no thanks to 5th 3rd Bank. There's just no common courtesy or human decency and friendly service anymore. No one cares. We have your money, you need us more than we need you and that's all that matters. You got that wrong! As I'm standing in line to get my money the teller notices the balance on my account and informs me that I qualified for an installment loan with them because of the funds I had available, I said, "Okay well what does that mean?" (**) said to me, "Well this installment loan will help your credit and I can get your monthly payments to be really low." I said, "Okay well what do I need to do?" He said, "Nothing. Go take a seat and I'll get right with you." (At the teller line ) not in an office. So I sat about 5 minutes and he called me back up and said, "Okay Ms. ** I've printed out all that papers. Let's go sign and we'll get you going." We went into the office and I started signing forms, he showed me where my monthly payments on the loan would be like $50.00 so I was okay with that.
I said to him in the midst of signing the papers "That's great, a $2,000 loan with 50 dollar payments? In shock 'cause no one else would approve me for a loan because of my credit." He said, "No worries. We're able to help even with where your score is right now," so I finished up all the papers, remembering that I initially came in to withdraw the $4000. I said, "Okay well I still need to withdraw the 4000 and I'll be done." He paused and said, "Well the application has to be approved and then they'll release the funds." In confusion I said, "What do you mean? If you offered me a loan what am I waiting on?" He said "the initial 2000 that you gave was Collateral" for the loan, and I stopped and said, "WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?" He said, "Yeah this is an installment loan with collateral." I said, "Why are you JUST NOW EXPLAINING THAT? Why in the hell would I put up $2000 of MY MONEY to make payments on it right now?" He said, "Oh no don't worry they're gonna approve it and you'll have funds as soon as they do." I said, "Are you freaking kidding me dude? I just explained why I was in here and what I needed the money for, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?" He sat in silence and then said, "You'll thank me in 4 years when your score goes up?" Lol like are you serioussss? So I complained to the assistant branch manager about it and she said she would take care of it. My employer identification number was wrong on my account. After a letter was received from Fifth Third, no call, no email. They just all of a sudden started withholding 24 percent of my money. I made 6 calls in total and the response every time which come to find out is a scripted lie was the IRS has the money and that I would be unable to get it back until the end of the tax year.
I called the IRS to see if I could use the money to pay employee withholdings. I mean why not? They had my money according to a scripted lie. The nice gentleman from the IRS was even disturbed by their lies and told me that according to IRS code 3406 the bank did not have to hold the money once the error was fixed. So far I spent around 6 hours on the phone to get to the bottom of their scripted lie of which it took 5 minutes for me to receive their fax, fill it out, and return it. Took 24 hours for them to receive my fax then I was told it would take 3 to 5 business days to stop taking my money. My case was sent to be reviewed. I was told if they did approve me getting my money back it would take 7 to 10 business days. Also I have been a customer since 1999.

I purchase my vehicle through a dealership on 10/20/2015 which I was approved on a 60 month loan with Fifth Third Bank. Upon agreement the bank would need registration and proof of insurance to grant approval of the loan. I then provided Fifth Third with the documents required. Within a month of owning the vehicle they called and sent me letters threatening to tack on thousand of dollars to my loan for insurance that was already provided, I had to go out of my way to have my insurance agent then fax insurance information for a second time. This was time consuming for me and shows lack of professionalism and organization skills from a lender. I then paid my loan on time every month until February 12th 2018 when I paid the entire loan off in full, 44 months EARLY.
With my account reflecting a balance of $0.00 for 6 weeks I then get called on April 2nd 2018 from Fifth Third Bank stating I owe them $0.29 (twenty nine cents) in interest and that the payment is late. I explained to numerous representatives the online account I use with Fifth Third reflects a balance of $0.00, I am then told the online account does not reflect the daily interest incurred by Fifth Third, which I asked how is that my fault that your online banking does reflect a true balance... I only get "I'm sorry" from the reps with no resolve but for me to pay the $0.29 that I owe them. I went online to pay the 29 cents and it will not accept payment because the balance reflects $0.00 and the only way for me to pay this petty absurd interest rate fee is to give all my information over the phone to their poor customer service reps. I highly do not recommend such an unprofessional, unorganized lender.

I talked to so many bank personnel. I still do not know who the loan officer was. My home has its current mortgage through them. It should have been easy? Often went weeks without my being able to contact anyone. I was told on three different occasions that the loan was sent to the underwriter and it should be a few days. Lies? I deposited a check for $1,900 to my savings account a week ago. I come home to a letter stating that I failed to sign the back of the check. All I had on it was deposit only. You would think that if I'm depositing a check and it says deposit only and I am using my mobile device. The check has my name on it that it wouldn't be a problem that they should go ahead and deposit it but they didn't. That's okay. So I take the check and I sign the back of it and I deposited through an ATM and of course I get a receipt for it only to find out that they deducted the $1,900 that I had just deposited.
I called the bank today and they tell me that it wasn't my signature that it was kicked back and I will receive a letter that I need to bring to a banker. I am pissed. It is my signature and it's my money that they are messing with. This is not my first mishap with this bank. I have been banking with them for a very long time and have several accounts with them that I may now withdrawal. It is absolutely the poorest customer service.

Basically, after researching everything you need to do to get the $200, you are then contacted about having to open up a credit card. You need to spend $500 every month without fail. You also need to maintain a $1,500 daily minimum balance without fail. None of this was disclosed. The only thing said was that you have 45 days to build up your account with $500, that's all! I immediately transferred money out of my other bank into this bank.
It took nearly 4 days to show up. After trying to contact them regarding all of these requirements, they did a skipiddy doodah type of dance around. Now I've been trying to get my $500 back and 5 days have passed with it pending. They said I have a $3 service fee that needs to be paid for the transfer which was stated when I initiated the transfer. THERE WAS NO SUCH DISCLOSURE!!! Suntrust Bank and many other banks do not charge you for sending money to other banks - WOW!!! I told them to take their damned $3 and send me the $497 and close this account. Now waiting to see what other BS I run into. STAY AWAY - they are simply devious to lure people in for something they have no intention on honoring.

So they definitely don't have a problem with overcharging you for everything and then God forbid you do actually need a couple hundred bucks here and there like say you try and get $200. You better believe you're going to owe about 450 back and then they decided just cut it off because you've used it twice in 6 months. So then when you need it again you're just stuck and then they don't try and help you when you call all they do is say sorry.

Scam - I fell for a scam willingly. I take responsibility for that. But the bank did not do what they said that they would do on their part. I was having money transferred. Before the transfer, they were to call me to make sure that this is what I wanted to do before they released the money. They did not call. They had reason for suspicion. They transferred the money. I am out $4000 because they did not call me. When I got home from filling out the papers for transfer at the bank, I got back on Facebook and within a few minutes realized that it was a scam. If I had gotten the call from the bank, I would have told them to cancel it.
This is obviously not a hometown bank that cares about the people of the community. I can't close the account because they have my mortgage. But for the last 3 hours I have been trying to transfer the majority of the money out of that account to my other bank with their insane online banking system. They have tried everything. They have blocked my calls, disconnected me, and technicians could not help me set up the transfer correctly. It is 6 pm, and they have succeeded in stalling this off for another day. First of all, let me start off by saying their customer service is horrible and they are absolutely clueless. I set my account up on online and I inputted a coupon I received in the mail (which was the only reason I gave them a shot at all). After setting up the whole account it seems as if my coupon was changed to another promotion and the initial promotion was not attached to my account which I didn't find out until I reached out to their customer service via email. So I went into the branch in Columbus, OH Taylor Station Rd and sat and spoke with a banker who said she was going to research and call me once her manager came out of the meeting.
After several attempts to call and constantly being placed on hold almost two weeks passed and I decided to return to the branch. After the banker notice who I was, she came up to me and say, "I emailed home office about the issue and yet to receive a response," yet she didn't contact me at all with an update. Very unprofessional. But that's not it. I order checks when I set up my account on Jan 25, 2018, and as of today Feb 23, 2018, I have still yet to receive them. After three calls with three different reps including one supervisor I was told different information. I went forward anyway because I felt she had spent a lot of her time with me and thought it was the right thing to do. I made it quite clear that I did not want a mortgage and she assured me it was not a mortgage, just a line of credit.
I subsequently received a letter from Fifth Third that clearly referred to a "mortgage" not a line of credit and asking me for further information. I checked this out with a couple of Fifth Third branches to be sure I was understanding correctly, and both assured me that it was a "mortgage" not a Line of Credit. I had told the person I did not want a mortgage as I had just paid the home off. I was told that they had clicked on the wrong pull down button but I have no doubt that had I not questioned I would have had a $50,000 mortgage I did not want. I think they knew exactly what they were doing. I then cancelled by request for a loan on the phone and via email. This was a few weeks ago.
Today I got a letter stating they were turning me down for the line of credit and citing "too much debt for my income," which is clearly wrong as I only have a mortgage on my residence and pay credit cards off in full each month. I also have an 850 credit score. I feel this was a retaliation. I will never use Fifth Third again and will be closing all of my accounts with them as soon as possible and will let everyone who indicates they are applying for credit or a mortgage to steer clear of Fifth Third Bank.

I don't know who runs this place but they are never willing to own up to mistakes on their part! FIRST OFF this bank decides how to apply your payments not you! Do not think for a second you are in control. I keep calling on the phone to make payments to make sure I'm current and there is always fees I want explained... They say I'm current then bam! Next month I'm 3 months behind again. I wish I could explain the whole situation but I'm confused myself!
Also, the customer service reps. And bankers are nice so I guess that's why they get a star, but they can never provide an answer other than that's the way it is. They constantly keep transferring you to different departments having you re-verify your info. So I receive mail from them right? Yup... My address is on the mail right? So why that the address I'm providing them is incorrect? EVERY TIME! There is so much more but I will not go on about this too much more. Who asked me for my info AGAIN!
Now let me tell you about the weird multilayer overly complicated checking saving accounts they set me up with. 2 checking accounts linked together with 2 debit cards and a third card I can only describe as a prepaid debit card. So money was to be deposited into one account and then I was supposed to manually transfer it to the other account and only use that account to spend out of. The other card you could put money on but not transfer back off. Okay it was weird but not so bad I thought at first until I started trying to pay bills out of it. 3 different companies I paid bills to from the account. All companies bills showed paid but the money did not come out of my account or show in the statements. Companies said bills where paid. Bank said they had no idea...
30 days later all where returned because they didn't clear even though there was money in the account... FIFTH THIRD ACCEPTED NO RESPONSIBILITY and I paid all the fees. I went to speak with a personal banker that could only come up with I had a "phantom account" what? I had never heard of such a thing probably because it is like a 1 in a billion chance or something. Well I stopped using the accounts at the advice of the banker I only had a few dollars in the accounts but didn't want to close so I could deposit money to pay my installment loan. I had never ever heard of this bank and I wish that was still my reality. I set up a payment account that I use for my business with plenty of funds in it. I set up the external account with the 5/3 app. I made my first payment the day before it was due. The account reflected the change and all was fine. I started getting robo calls from an unknown number that never left a voicemail.
Finally, I answered the phone and found out that it was 5/3. They use autodial numbers and don't leave messages. To make a very long story short, the app does not work and they told me that after the fact. We had our bank cut a cashier's check to make the first payment and it cleared. I spoke to someone that told me there was a block on the payee account. They said it was due to a reversal for non-sufficient funds. My bank saw NO attempt to withdraw funds from 5/3. I got the block removed and got a confirmation screen saying it was successful. Only to find that THE NEXT DAY there was no account attached and when I tried to add again it said 'technical difficulties.'
All the while I know there is money in the account and I set up recurring payments with a specialist on the phone. Only to get more calls saying I am delinquent. After being hung up on repeatedly. This bank is terrible and should lose its ability to bank until it figures out how to. I want to refinance with another bank as soon as I can. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS BANK.

We have a car loan with Fifth Third and in the past 8 months they've sent my car to repo twice. We had a problem with our electronic payments and they put a lock on our account. So when we set up payments they would not process out of our bank account. We worked with customer service and they said everything was fine. But what they did not tell us is that our account was in collections.
After speaking with one supervisor after another trying to put the pieces together as to what was happening, I discovered that the customer service auto dial system does not connect with the collections auto dial system. So the customer service person had no idea that there was a problem with my account getting ready to go to repo. In fact, the customer service customer called me and talked to me and said everything was fine with my account. Two days later at midnight, a guy shows up saying he was told to pick the car up for repossession and would not tell me anything about what was going on.
I talked to 2 Customer Service supervisors who both hung up on me after I kept probing deeper into how something like this could happen when I had talked to customer service 2 days ago and they said everything was fine. I asked why didn't anyone call me about my car being in such default and they said I should know what my bill is and refused to continue to talk further to me. In fact they hung up the phone. I then went on social media to express my concerns and a customer service manager called me.
We talked and I explained how the customer service person misrepresented the status of my account to me and insisted that someone explain how this could happen and he said he would need to escalate the problem. Fifth Third is a bank and they have a fiduciary responsibility to the people who they take money from to duly notify them of issues and concerns properly. It is not what they did, it is how they misrepresented information to me and would not try to work to a resolution. I can accept that people on the floor may not know, but I do not accept that management should get a bye on this. I expect that upper management will crawl from behind their desks and reach out to at least say we own this problem and will work to train our people better.

They are not for the customer, they do not know how to read their own statements, they cannot give you anything helpful at all. I am pulling everything out before they allow other companies to take advantage of me.

I have had a home equity loan with 5/3 since 2004, all was well in the first few years but then I got a month behind and caught up but it had never been the same. The monthly statement is the most difficult statement to read. I have now resorted to calling in to pay and I will say is that all I owe and for several months after making my payments they will continue to call and say I owed more than I paid.
Well last night I got a call saying I owed 103 then it was 17.80 more than what I had paid. This now has affected my credit as they called on the 31 day to tell me I owed 17.80 more but it was as they stated an "Honest Mistake". Ok so when I had made my original payment this month I said, "What will I owe next month," first he says 83, then I responded with, "That is not right, not enough," then he comes back with 111.00, well yesterday when I paid the "honest mistake of 17.80" I was told that I owe 181.00 for the next month. I am fed up, need some help with this... I think they have jerked me around and screwed with my credit because this has happened several times. I don't know what to do. I am trying to pay it off but have 5300 left. It is the worst experience with a bank I have ever had.

So yet again another bank who is in direct violation of the Homeowners Protection Act (HPA). PMI when 5 years or When you owe 79% or less of the original amount they are supposed to drop the PMI. I had my home appraised last year and I had over the equity needed to get rid of the PMI but they said you have to keep it 5 years that was the agreement. OK so January is 5 years so I called and asked when I could see the PMI off my bill they said, "Oh no you have to write a request and it takes 8-10 weeks to process." I said, "OK but I will expect a refund for every month you collect past the date with interest." They said, "Oh no that’s not possible." I said, "It will be if I have to get legal representation as well as legal fees." So sick of these banks who were all bailed out for doing a crappy job hitting us where it hurts. Will update when I have an answer but I am not too optimistic.

I have been a customer of Fifth Third Bank since 1998. Recently I decided to move my IRA account to another service provider. I called to let my account manager know and that I would be coming into the office in 5 days. She did not return my call and had not done anything to facilitate my request. I was told that I needed to have my new provider fill out a form and fax it to Grand Rapids. The phone number she gave me did not work. Now, almost three weeks later, after calling the account manager, the branch manager, customer service and headquarters, I still do not have my money.
Today, the branch manager told me that you required the EXACT time that the form was faxed to you, after I told him the date and that it was between noon and 1pm EST. This is no longer ridiculous, it has become tedious and I have begun posting my own campaign on FB, Yelp, Google, Twitter and IG to let people know how awful your service is and how far you will go to ensure that no one can move their money. I had $112,000 in checking that I am closing tomorrow. Suntrust transferred my money after 20 minutes. You, on the other hand, are holding 25% of my net worth hostage. It is unbelievable that this has happened. I will now pursue legal recourse.

Normally, I would tell people how much I like banking with Fifth Third because the one in my small town has very nice people working there that are very helpful. My problem is not with any of them. They have been very good to me. My problem is with the people I contacted at the 800 # about their online banking system. This concerns my online banking account and a glitch in their system that they are unwilling to make good for. I am constantly having problems with it. Every month without fail it will not allow me to post payments without saying they are having technical difficulties and wait until later. I have to try over and over again just to pay my bills.
Now I went on there to check the status of one of my bills and it wasn't even listed. It completely disappeared, nowhere to be found. I know how to use my online banking account. I am very familiar with it. My Duke Energy payment was no longer listed. It was not under 'scheduled.' It was not under 'being processed.' It was not under history until it was too late and I already posted the same payment twice thinking I must have thought I paid it and didn't if it wasn't listed anywhere. It was nowhere to be found but showed up later after it was too late and two payments for the same bill were sent out.
The bank then lied to me. A lady in the dispute department did not give me her direct contact information claiming I didn't need it because if I called back the next day she guaranteed anyone in the dispute department would fix it for me once the second payment to Duke Energy posted and get my money back and not charge me anything. She lied because I called the next day and the dispute department said they don't even handle such matters and the person they transferred me to said they couldn't help me. He said I'd have to call Duke Energy back, but they were unwilling to help also.
I'm on disability income so when my bank account bounces I get charged $30 and when I can't pay rent on time I get charged $50, so I would be charged an extra $80 that I have no way of paying on my income because the bank was unwilling to help me with something a glitch in their system caused. I have no way of proving it. I just hope they all have online banking with Fifth Third and when it happens to them, they will find out I'm telling the truth because nothing has been done to fix the problem and I'm very upset about it. I have lost complete trust in Fifth Third's online banking. I cannot count on the information they list to be accurate at any given time. It needs to be fixed so they don't cause this to happen to anyone else or happen to me again.

I am mortgage customer of Fifth Third Bank. I pay my mortgage on time and I even have escrow balance with the bank, they are charging my 4.12% interest on my loan. I pay nearly $400 per month in interest payment. We recently sold my rental property and my attorney requested a pay off statement from the bank four days prior to our closing day and we did not get anything from them - no response whatsoever. So my Attorney called their 800 number and their customer service person promised to have it available to us one day prior to the closing date. They took my $15 fee. And they did not send us the pay off statement and no one even responded with why I will not get my pay off statement - this bank is so unresponsive. I called their 800 number all day long and they all are ready to process the pay off and earn that $15 charge each time I will talk to their "STUPID" customer service reps. I bet they are all commission there.
Just like Chase and all other large banks (who are in no need for customer service - they would rather have us talk to bots online and ATMs - of course when they want my money they will send the salesperson right away). They are only after your money and for your mortgage so they can make money off your money and charge you money for the loans you take. These banks are way too large and they simply do not care anymore. And of course, our Govt bails them out when they screw up so they can rule as they wish. None of the Fifth Third phone services people I talked to today have any answers - why do they even work there? You should take your money and keep it somewhere else - these guys are pathetic.
So on the day of my closing I am without the payoff statement - I go to a local branch. As soon as they open I am there. I spent more than one hour at the branch to figure out why my pay off statement was not processed when it was put in four days ago. The Branch Manager at the local branch was nice. I must say that the Branch Manager at their Rosemont, IL location was decent, Collette was her name. She tried to help me; she must have contacted nearly 10 people. NO KIDDING. She literally dialed 10 numbers in their corporate mortgage department (this was on Dec 15) and No One, No One picked up the phone - she even emailed a few people and no one responded. I am sitting there in Collette's office texting my attorney who is at the title company with buyers and my buyers are panicking. They are very upset - here my bank is non-responsive. We ended up delaying the closing.
Fifth Third has earned $1,000's from my mortgage with them - and this is what they do to me after making so much money from me. This is of course capitalism - and as a little consumer like me has no chance to stand up against unruly large corporations like the Fifth Third Bank. However, I do have the power to not give them my money. Kudos to the Branch Manager in Rosemont IL - perhaps because of good people like Collette there is some sanity in grab my money and run corporate driven society we live in.

First things first. This bank is by far the most deplorable, piss poor example of a reputable bank I've encountered in all my years of banking. This is coming from a customer of 5/3 of over 10 years! I initially was happy to join the bank at 19 in 2007 when I was a freshmen in college. I essentially had no major issues with it for years and I was happy. I even had a new account opened after my card was compromised online. Fast forward to 2017, I have my checking/savings account and a credit card with them. I knew their credit card was a scam when I first got it in 2014 after I made one purchase and paid it off right away and was still charged interest for the one purchase. I was advised by a friend who was smart with money to cut the card up and never use it again because closed accounts can bring down your credit score so I kept it but didn't use it for the longest time because of that.
I've been living on the west coast since early 2015 so the only way to get money in my account is through check or direct deposit. I've been going through financial hardship since the summer because of a career switch. I've over drafted a lot and I know they charge you a fee but recently I over drafted $110 including a couple small charges that came out I thought already came out. I was going to put money in there to cover it and more but something told me to check before I did, I had pending $185 in overdraft fees. I called thinking they would at least meet me halfway but instead I was met with incompetent, careless customer services agents who like many others gave me the runaround.
Now because I've paid so much this year in fees, I refuse to give them another cent for fees because $185 IS COMPLETELY INSANE for any bank to charge. Also, if I had money to throw away like that I CLEARLY wouldn't have over drafted at all!!! I was instructed to call the branch where I opened it at since there is no 5/3 bank in my entire state so when I did I thought it would be a more caring person but instead I received the same attitude and horrible lack of customer service from someone who worked at a branch.
Needless to say I am going to gather up the money that I over drafted so my account is at zero and I am cancelling my account ASAP. It's sad to throw 10 years down the drain but I'M NO LONGER FINANCING 5/3 BANK THROUGH UNNECESSARY, OUTRAGEOUS FEES. I also closed my credit card with them and I plan on closing my savings account as well. Do not do service with this ridiculous bank, THEY WILL LITERALLY FEE YOU TO DEATH!!!

Have had my auto loan with Fifth Third Bank for 2 uneventful years then it got stolen. It was recovered less than a week later. Three months later was going online to make the monthly payment when I noticed a $125 fee added on for "repo close fee". I couldn't imagine what this was so called their 800 number. As is stated in review after review I was bounced all over the place from department to department with each one claiming ignorance of the charges. I finally got an answer from someone who said they had been notified by the impound lot that they had their collateral so Fifth Third said they had to send someone to check on their interests.
Now I have insurance and been making regular payments so find this "repo fee" ridiculous. I question what the repo dept did to earn this fee since it was only impounded for 3 days and it was 3 months later when they charged me. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income and sure do not appreciate this bank adding salt to the injury after getting my van stolen. After Googling complaints against Fifth Third bank I felt some comfort in knowing I was not alone being robbed by this bank but question after reading 100s of complaints how they can continue to get away with these actions. At the least I would like to see documentation of their actions concerning this $125 fee. What did they do to earn it???? Totally unnecessary IMO.

Horrible bank. Rude and flippant customer service reps, incompetent with all aspects of banking. They have screwed up my online bill pay multiple times with emails telling me I need to schedule a bill to be paid when it's already scheduled... Then it will be paid anyway, or just the opposite; I'll schedule a bill to be paid then it won't get paid, telling me it was never scheduled, when it was. The latest debacle came when (in the process of closing my account with them) I had a scheduled transfer to my new bank. I then noticed online that it was cancelled (no reason given).
I called customer no service and she guaranteed me that yes, the transfer was definitely cancelled. I told her she needs to be 100% certain because I will then schedule it to be transferred from my new bank's site and I don't want it coming out twice. "Oh no, it has definitely been cancelled." You would think I would have learned by now, not to trust anything they say, because sure enough, two days later, the cancelled transfer went through. By the time they alerted me to it (through email) it was too late for me to stop the transfer from my new bank's site.
Now, of course, the money has come out twice, leaving me with a negative balance and overdraft fees. After calling 3 different reps who said they would take care of it, nothing happened. I have since had to go to one of their brick and mortar banks and have a manager take care of this for me. I'll see what happens. I have now transferred back the money to Fifth Third and if the fees do not come off, I will take them to small claims court. I have a credit card with them and a mortgage, and I've been with them for 6 years. No more. Checking will be closed as soon as this problem that they caused is fixed. Then I will close the credit card, then I will refinance with another institution. I'm done.

I figured that it would be easiest to make payments as it would come right from my checking account that is WITH THE SAME BANK, but from February 2017-August 2017, I had to call and/or go in person every single month to “set up” my automatic payments because EVERY SINGLE MONTH they failed to actually activate it in their system. So, when I was told in May of 2017 to not worry, it had been set up and was totally ready to go, I didn’t call to check on them to make sure they had done their job like they said they had for the last 4 months prior to then, and the payments weren’t made for 3 months when they reported me to the credit bureau.
I owed something like $139 (because I essentially stopped using it due to the number of issues I’d had with them), I had $2000+ in my checking account WITH THIS SAME BANK, and they sent me to collections because they didn’t do their job AGAIN. So, now my credit score has gone down because they kept telling me that my automatic payments were set up when they were, in fact, never initiated. They stated that there was a charge before that I approved which proved I had the card. I stated this was false. I gave them the police report and they still refused to give me credit. In a letter from 5/3 it states by law they are required to give me the documents they have for the decision. 5/3 refused to give me their documents. I hired an attorney and they gave us the runaround.
In 5/3 bank card contract it states that max out of pocket for fraud is 50.00. After talking our way up the ladder, we found out they the charges they were talking about were never paid because they determined them as fraud. These charges never showed up on my account and, hence, I had no knowledge of them. Therefore they should have rejected all charges after them. Clearly they knew these charges were false, yet determined that I would not fight them over this. All I had to do was figure out where to send it--- easy, right? WRONG!!! So Wrong! First, their automated telephone answering system is like a brick wall. If none of the options apply, many businesses give you a way to bypass the automation situation--- not 5/3. When I finally DID get to a human, and explained that I needed an address to request a title, she acted like she was going to help me and then transferred me to another recording. This is my big problem, and why I will NEVER do any business with 5/3 again. They will not process a title transfer request. They have shut down all such operations and have out-sourced this function to another company that will do it for us--- for a fee!!!
So instead of them doing this part of servicing the auto loan, they have decided to OPT OUT OF CUSTOMER SERVICE, I'm guessing to up those profits and huge salaries for the top executives!!! They collect packages that are worth several million each year --- GOOGLE it! And we have to pay for our own title transfer, and spend our valuable time ordering it ourselves. And when I told the "customer service representative" that I thought this was ridiculous and that I was going to cancel my loan, and write to the President and Operations Manager of 5/3, she said "anytime someone makes a threat and talks about the President they have to speak to the supervisor".
I asked if the call was recorded and told her to look up the word threat in the dictionary. I am glad the call was, so she can review it with her supervisor and learn not to use inflammatory language in her role as a CSR. Filing a complaint with management is an appropriate course of action and should not be labeled as a "threat". What is wrong with our world? I waited for the supervisor who told me that it was their right to outsource the title transfer function and that my complaint to the president would not change anything.

5/3 when they first came over were a good bank. Good customer service, attentive and willing to fix issues. Been a customer thru the various acquisitions since 1999. For the last 5 years it has been going downhill. Spent almost 1.5 hours on the phone yesterday fixing up their error with auto bill pay (made payments to home equity NOT credit card). Was transferred to 6 people to find out that I need to fill out some paperwork and mail it back. Then today I am trying to pay my CC bill on the phone and keep getting bounced for over an hour. I signed up with 5th 3rd Bank back in May and it has been a constant headache. Had problems with my debit cards just trying to set up a pin. Never knew a banking customer service ever to be closed on Sundays until this bank. The main reason I'm outraged at the bank is the line of Credit I had them sign me up for. They told me I qualified for 21,000.00 with a 12.59 interest rate which was fine until I went and used the money to pay off a time share. My first bill I got from the was 154.00 which I used 12,000.00 of the 21,000. I had paid 350.00 dollars before the payment was due. The next Bill I got was 254.00. What in the world. How could this be.
I call the girl who gave me loan. She gave me some b.s. excuse of the payment is supposed to come out of my checking account and because the money wasn't there that's why it went up. That made no sense whatsoever. So I go to a branch. Talk to someone else who called customer service and come to find out they charge you 1 percent interest of the amount you take out causing me to almost pay double the amount I was scheduled to pay. I have never heard of such a ignorant thing. If I had known this I would not had used this cause now I'm screwed due to lack of information from the employees at 5th 3rd. I even went to my bank later that day and explained what had happened and they even said they hear A LOT of complaints about 5th 3rd. My advice to you all: STAY THE HECK AWAY FROM THIS BANK. They are clueless and it's all about screwing you the consumer.

I have been with Fifth Third Bank for over 10 years now and over these years I have noticed they have decline in customer service. Recently all been about money. They take your money from you without even letting you know and leave you negative and charged overdraft fees daily!!! I do not recommend banking with Fifth Third at all. Customer service is terrible, when you call nobody can answer your questions and they transfer you to several departments just to have nobody call you back and never get your question answered and charging you fees! DO NOT BANK HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE PAYING FEES & HAVING YOUR MONEY STOLEN!!!

I recently opened a credit card account with Fifth Third Bank. $15000 limit. I'm sure at this point that I shouldn't have written a convenience check for the full $15000. I just received a statement for $15,000 plus the $450 convenience check fee and additional $525 fee for going over my limit (caused by the check fee). Wow... what a way to lose a customer. I will not pay $525 to them. If the check was causing my account to go over the limit, they should have not paid the check when it was presented to them. I will send them a check for the $15,000 plus the $450 check fee. Poor judgment on my part thinking Fifth Third was a reputable bank.

Now this was in the middle of the housing market crash... Once this guy knew my house was paid in full he said, "How much do you want? I can get you up to $500,000." I said, "And this is why the housing market has crashed cause of bankers like you." I walked out of there... That was only the beginning. It was a 5/3 credit card that we never opened and the balance was $4,000 seriously. This has haunted us for YEARS!!!
Now I paid off the loan with 5/3 I can close the checking account. Well I procrastinate in doing it then I notice an $11 service fee... WHAT!!! Today, I went to inquire about a promotion for new accounts. Details or terms on the promotion were inadequate. So I had questions. The promotion offers $200 if you sign up for a checking account. Impressions: First, there was only 1 customer service person, even though I saw 7 offices. I thought during a promotion, wouldn't you bring one more rep in? Maybe. Anyway, a few minutes later, a customer walks in and related that the bank deposited his payment into the wrong account and he got yelled at for it. Next, someone I recognized walked in sweaty and greasy looking. I'm thinking, they lure unsophisticated, poor folks to this bank. Then I noticed the bank had no art or plants (fake or real) and that the exterior foliage was in poor condition. Both are unusual for banks.
The customer service rooms are not sound proof and I heard everything the between the previous customer and the representative, even amounts. Not good. Also, the bank manager couldn't be over 30. (She indicated that she was the manager). She was nice, but my impression overall was one of a bank that doesn't measure up. I just now realize that they must wear uniforms, because a tall young ** teller with the same or similar outfit and manner of walking as the boss came out briefly in the same Black polyester suit. Not problematic, but it just felt "off" in there, like an episode out of The Twilight Zone. Anyway, I came here to look up complaints because my impression of the place was poor. Now I know. I will not be closing my account with PNC for $200.00 that might not materialize. Thank you all for your accounts with 5-3. No thanks.

I've been banking with Fifth Third Bank for about seven months now, it is for my auto loan. Let me tell you this they really have bad customer service, really bad. I am not familiar with this bank, this is what bank I got approved on for my car. This was my first time getting a car and had basic knowledge about the bank and the rest of the stuff, I was just very excited to get my first car on my own.
2 months pass by, I decided to call the bank to just to double check for my monthly bill, on that note I am on automatic bill payer. While I was on the phone I kept getting transferred to different departments. Which is really frustrating when I had only one question. They then tell me that the bank had forced an insurance policy into my account due to not having full coverage insurance. I then provided them my insurance and they were quickly able to deduct what was added to my account. They then left a remaining amount of $614 due to for only having liability for 2 months, which was totally fine. So then my monthly bill went from being $219 to $352.
A month passes by and I call the bank again to just have reassurance on my bill, they then told me that my monthly bill went up which I was notified already so I was ok with the conversation. The following month I call again for some reassurance. I called around 3 or 4 PM. When a representative answered I then noticed that he had an accent, I also recognized his accent as well. I am Filipino so I am very positive that I would recognize when a fellow Filipino is speaking. I had told him my problems about the forced insurance and all of that stuff, he then transfers me to a different department. I believe I had spoken with at least 5 people that day and none of them were able to answer my questions.
This has been going on for months now, but until last month they randomly called my aunt which was the co signer notifying her that I did not pay the last month's bill. I was furious when my aunt called me because how is that possible when I have it set up for automatic bill-payer. I then called them, first person answered and they did not give me the answer that I needed, so then I decided to speak to another representative the second person hung up on me in the middle of our conversation, third person was very slow paced I just couldn't deal with that. So then I gave up. My questions were not answered whatsoever. The next month comes and I get two letters from the bank one is saying that I have a past due payment of $352 and the other mail consisting of an electronic process payment.
Those 2 mails had different dates. I then call them asking about the past due payment, they're now telling me I owe $352 and on top of a $463 for the month of July. I was freaking out and had asked them what are those for? Then again they couldn't answer my questions and had hung up on me. I needed my questions answered so I then I decided to give it one last shot.
The last person that had answered was a girl name Joy. She had an accent and while talking with her, her background noise was very loud. I can hear what the people next to her or maybe even behind are saying. I speak and understand Tagalog so I am very familiar with the language. I hear these people in the background talking about their day and what had happened to them the night before, of course they were all speaking in Tagalog. On top of that the woman I was speaking to was very slow paced. She couldn't answer any of my questions.
The following day my cousin had looked into my account and just basically studied it. When I bought my car it totaled in about $16800. Today I owe $16,268. I've had the car for 7 months now and if you do that math it's basically saying I've only paid $500 dollars within the 7 months I had the car. This is just ridiculous, they're scams and they steal your money. Today I tried refinancing my car but didn't get approved due to the amount of my pay off. I am going to a local bank near me and will try to see if I can get another loan, I want out of this bank ASAP. I hate Fifth Third Bank. I feel sorry for the others who have dealt with the similar situations.

I opened the account with 53rd because of this promotional offer and did exactly what was required to get the $200.00. Earlier this year (2017), I made at least 3 inquiries about when the money would be deposited in my account. I even e-mailed a message to 53rd and received a letter telling me to contact the branch where I opened the account. I contacted the branch, was told that the manager would call me later that day. The manager never called. I called the branch last week and talked to the manager who opened the account for me last year. His reply was that my inquiry is probably beyond the time limitation. What?
I took out a home loan with Quicken Loans last year, and 53rd bought the loan. The loan payments are due on the 1st of each month. I asked 53rd to change the due date to the 5th of each month because on a couple of months, especially January, the direct deposit from my pension is not made until January 3rd or 4th. In January 2017, 53rd charged me a $35 overdraft fee because of this. 53rd Bank refused to change the payment due date. He even said loudly, with the bank full of people that there wasn't enough funds to cover the check and that he couldn't give me any money back because of that. I would have to go to the ATM after I was finished depositing it with him. REALLY? He couldn't just take care of my transaction right then? I finally said to him... I have found their numerous locations to be very convenient and, until recently, had no major issues with my banking experience. This past week, I saw that a scheduled ACH draft would leave me insufficient of funds. I went to a local branch four days prior to the scheduled draft and placed a stop payment. The bank representative was helpful and placed a stop payment waiving the customary fee. I was not informed that stop payments are not guaranteed. The amount entered by the bank representative was off by one cent. Because of this the draft went through and my account was debited. I was charged a $12 overdraft fee and funds were drawn on my bank credit card to cover the overdraft.
I went in person to the bank and spoke with two customer representatives including one supervisor who all told me they could waive the overdraft fee but I would have to file a dispute on the ACH draft which was also not guaranteed and would take more of my time to resolve. They were leaving it up to me to take care of and made no offer to help on my behalf. My wife and I have opened a new account at a local bank and are closing our accounts with Fifth Third. I financed a vehicle in December of 2014 at a Ford dealership in PA. My lender picked by the dealership was Fifth Third Bank. I have never been involved with this branch so I didn't know what I was going to deal with. I moved from PA to Nebraska in 2016. This is when I first started to realize the bank was going to be difficult to deal with. In order to register my vehicle in NE I had to call the bank and get them to send the title over to DMV of NE. The only number available I was directed to a very stubborn and ignorant lady who had no intention of helping me! Long story short it took me a week of numerous attempts and call transfers to finally get someone that can help send the title over which by the way took a month to mail out. That was not the bad part! I decided to put that experience behind me and continue forward!
However recently... I dealt with a very upsetting and deceiving matter! In the near future I have vacation planned with my wife and kids to travel in our vehicle to Mexico. I did some research and asked friends who have traveled to Mexico and all said the same thing... in order to travel in a financed vehicle you would need a permission letter from the Lender (Fifth Third Bank). All the people I asked had no issue with getting a permission letter from their lender as long as there was notice with time in advance and Mexico insurance was provided! So I followed the process accordingly, I purchased the Mexico insurance 2 months in advanced for the dates that I would be in Mexico with 2 days extra for precautionary measure. After I purchased the insurance I called Fifth Third Bank to request a permission letter. Immediately I was denied, so I asked to speak with a supervisor.
I was very detailed of my intentions, places and dates to travel, They refused! I reminded them how long I've owned the vehicle and that I have not been late or missed one payment in the 2+ years I've had that vehicle, still they refused! I felt cheated, betrayed and insulted! The reason they say they will not issue the letter was they insinuated I was going to leave the country and stop paying for the vehicle! When the supervisor said that, I continued to try and reason with him by informing him that I have no interest to leave this country. I have a great job, I have my Home, kids go to a great school! The only intention I have in Mexico is to visit for a 2 week vacation! Yet they still refused.
How is it fair, how is this right! Is this even legal? To restrict me from driving my vehicle to my desired location??? Why should I pay for a vehicle that has restrictions of driving! Other banks allow it with notice and purchase of separate insurance but Fifth Third Bank refused! 1st of all, Now I am looking for legal advice to address this matter and I am certainly determined to get this corrected no matter the cost! 2nd I will be looking to refinance with another bank so I will never have to deal with this Bank Again!!!

Do not trust your money with this bank. A criminal got a hold of my check, altered it with their name & cashed it for thousands of dollars. I only had couple hundred dollars in bank but Fifth Third decided it was in my best interest to clear the check throwing me into an overdraft situation. Upon noticing the overdraft, realized the fraudulent check was presented and cashed by bank. I made calls to local branch and the dispute department and a complaint was filed. After receiving no further information I continued to call only to find out the bank had filed the fraud incorrectly. I went back to local branch & started paperwork again, signed affidavits, etc. and was told should have my money back in 7-10 days. Been waiting 60+ days and no money back yet. Most recently been told it may be 120 days.
No one at Fifth Third has apologized to me for cashing this check that was clearly altered. No one has returned a phone call from local branch or local management yet. My experience with Fifth Third Bank is an interesting one. Back in November of 2016, I applied for a personal loan with the bank. Although I was denied because of DTI (debt to income), I was told that once my income increased, then there was a possibility I would be approved. So, I returned six months later with a 30,000.00 salary increase (got promoted to Assistant professor)... I still got denied. I was told by Mrs. **... because the original checking account has closed back in November I would need 1,000.00 to be considered. Then I was told I had a delinquency on my credit which was totally false because I called all three bureaus... Spoke to TransUnion and was told I have NO delinquencies on my report.
Finally, I was told that although my new salary starts on July 1, 2017, it could be used for the loan. But, Mrs. ** stated that the bank needed see that amount coming out... but that's not what we discussed previously. Oh well... just awful experience... I guess it was a true sign to get the hell away from that company. Especially after reading the feedback here on the bank.

I've been banking with Fifth Third for 7 years now and have had so many bad experiences with them it's not even funny. The only reason I'm still with them is because I travel so much it's extremely difficult to go through the motions of changing banks. Today was the final straw. First off, this bank will fee you to death. ATM fees, monthly fees, overdraft fees and more. Yeah every bank has these, but they advertise free checking and free ATMs. I've never seen the free checking and they have no readily available ATMs anywhere except the bank itself which is nowhere near my house or job.
Today they charged me an overdraft fee while I still had money in the bank. Their reasoning? This charge came in before a check cleared. The check cleared the same "business" day that the charge came in on. But the charge came in before the check cleared. I was under the impression that as long as the money was there before close of business then you're fine. Nope! At least not according to Customer service. Most banks have 24 hour forgiveness and these guys don't even have same day forgiveness.
Not only that, I've had checks held for ridiculous reasons. One reason was because I overdrafted at Christmas time. So they held my first payroll check after Christmas. They tried to hold it for 30 days because (their reasoning), I had overdrafted at some point 30 days prior. I had to go into the branch and raise hell to get them to release the funds!
Another issue I had was they kept freezing my account while I was traveling. Even when I notified them prior to travel. I travel for a living. And I begged them so many times to call me before they froze my account. I still have never received a phone call. I had to travel overseas for work and notified them 3 times before I left when, where, and how long I would be gone. I verified the information before I left and they said I was fine. They froze my account the first day I was across seas and I spent a week in Spain without a dime to my name before I could get someone to make an international phone call to get it fixed. Ridiculous! I have so many other issues. Their fraud department is ridiculous too. My card got hacked at Christmas time and I had to figure it out and get it fixed. This bank is a joke. Do not bank here.

I have sent a dispute letter to the 3 major credit reporting agencies, and 5/3rd still will not change the way they are reporting this loan. Again, I'm still currently paying on it.

OK, so... in my experience, Fifth Third is the worst bank ever. I have had countless issues caused by their complete lack of concern unless it involves a threat to them receiving funds. Some of those instances include the teller keying in the amount of my cash deposit wrong, and putting my account $6000 in the negative the week before closing on my home. Refusing to fix it immediately and forcing me to wait 5-7 business days for it to "fall off"... Allowing someone to make a fraudulent charge of several hundred dollars on my NOT YET ACTIVATED CARD in TEXAS, not notifying me until AFTER APPROVING the charge, then forcing me to wait 5-7 days to reverse the charge. The solution they gave me was to sync my accounts with overdraft protection to transfer money to my checking from savings so I would not be in the negative... I suppose so a thief would have access to ALL of my money, not just some.
BTW, never received an explanation as to HOW this happened... And most recently a transaction that was not authorized by PayPal was magically posted to my account (not pending, POSTED) although neither PayPal or the merchant ever received funds. Fifth Third literally has a couple hundred of MY dollars floating in space and has calmly told me it will take 60-120 to investigate, even though PayPal can literally call them RIGHT NOW to resolve the dispute. They refuse to correct it this way. There have been countless other incidence of mismanagement and a sheer lack of concern for how any of these things are impacting me financially from this bank. I will be closing my account after my 60-90 day investigation is completed, and I advise if you have not banked with them, PLEASE DON'T. I bet they will not lose the monthly fee they deduct from my account like clockwork... as if it's earned.

The absolute worst customer service quality I have ever experienced. I typically am not the type of person to complain but this bank has horrible customer service. They are rude for absolutely no reason and are love to hang up on you. I had mailed a payment that for some reason they hadn't received so they proceeded to call me on Sunday morning at 8:14 am to inform me of the problem, which was fine but then after hanging up they proceeded to call back 4 times within a 2 hour period and when I explained that I had already talked to someone they straight hung up on me.
The next morning I started receiving calls again and once again I talked to someone who admitted that I've never missed or been late on a payment so that is why they keep blowing up my phone. I offered to go ahead and pay over the phone and just cancel the check I sent until they informed me there was a $15 fee to pay by phone because you have to make the payment with a person and not through an automated system. I just started laughing and said, "Never mind, I will give my check a few more days to reach ya'll." Also found out that the extra money I send EVERY month over the past 5 1/2 years has been applied to the interest rate and not the principal. That's frustrating all on its own. Needless to say... NEVER NEVER NEVER again will I get a loan through Fifth Third Bank, too unprofessional for my business!!!

I asked Olivia, an employee for the name of her supervisor. I was told he wasn't in. 3 minutes later Josh (the supervisor) got on the phone. I asked Josh the name of his supervisor and instead of answering a simple question he restated a policy and hung up on me. I suggest that the heads of this bank go through their own process to see how ridiculous it is and maybe teach your staff some customer service.

Where I work we have a direct deposit option which I signed up for. My problem is others here where I work also have direct deposits in their banks. Well on Tuesdays, my coworkers can show me their deposits which aren't available for them to use until Wednesdays each week. 53rd doesn't even show my deposits until Thursdays. Last week I had an electronic withdraw taken out late Wednesday which didn't show in my pending at 1pm that day. I had cash in my wallet and could of made a run to the bank. I was charged an overdraft on that withdraw, when my co-workers can use their check on the same day. I feel 53rd had my money in one hand and pushed an electronic withdraw through with the other hand to charge me fees.
I have called the service department to complain only to find myself being told there is nothing they can do. It takes time for the electronic deposits to be posted, but electronic withdraws go right through with no delay. It is kinda underhanded as far as I am concerned. I suppose if a gambler in the old west acted like this they would have been shot under the table. I will find a new bank. Got me once, won't get me again.

What I thought was good service at first turned out to be a nightmare 6 months later. Gricel assured me multiple times that my gap insurance would automatically carry over from my original loan to the new loan. She sounded like she knew what she was talking about and said she wasn't new to the business. Fast forward 6 months later, my car gets stolen from in front of my house while I was on vacation. I submit a claim, Allstate of course doesn't cover 100%. Difference should be covered by gap right? That's if it transferred over as Gricel stated multiple times.
I brought it up to upper management, and while her manager Remi admitted that they messed up to me after he spoke with her, once corporate interviewed her, she denied everything to cover her unprofessional self. Now I am paying off the remainder of the loan (thousands), for a car I no longer have, all after they told me to pound sand. They will surely get you a loan. They will surely lie to you to get your business and they sure as hell will not fix what they messed up, even after they admit to it. So they release funds Monday then after they cash that check, they then put my account in overdraft, charge me 111.00 then deposit my check, which now they have set me up for them over drafting me 999.00. Got direct deposit and they put my check towards their fees. I have NO money now for 2 more weeks and my account is still 810.00 overdrawn. Have NO money for food, gas, car payment.

I would like to take a moment to share my story with you... I have been banking with 5/3 for ~15 years. On Friday 2/17/17, my husband and I had our checks directly deposited, as we have for many, many years. I proceeded to pay or monthly bills, as I normally do. I realized that I needed to transfer money to the account to ensure all the payments were covered, as well as a little additional to cover living expenses for the next two weeks.
While I was in the process of transferring money from my mobile account, my boss called me panicked as a new piece of equipment was malfunctioning and she was hoping I could help to resolve it. I ended up being on the phone with her while my husband drove us to the office to help fix the malfunctioning equipment. During this (emergency) situation, I completely forgot to complete the transfer of the funds.
On Tuesday, all of the payments that I had made on Friday settled and my account ended up short and in the negative at (677). Lucky for me, early that morning around 7 am, I was making a purchase online for my mother and consequently, was declined. Knowing that I had money in my account, I logged on and was shocked to see that my balance was negative.
It hit me like a ton of bricks. I instantly realized what had happened and moved enough money into the account, as well as ~300 additional. I called the customer service line and told the agent what was going on. She informed me at the time that I had incurred a $370 overdraft fee. She told me additionally that there was nothing she could do to reverse any of the charges because in March of 2016 I had some charges reversed.
I do recall having charges reversed in March of 2016, but honestly cannot recall why I had asked for that. I am certain that if I had asked, it was because I truly needed it and had "bounced" my account accidentally, not maliciously. It is easy to look through my 15+ years of being a customer that I do not make a habit out of overdrafting my account, nor are we irresponsible. We are quite the opposite. We pride ourselves in living within our means. We help others as much as we can and both volunteer our time and services to many charitable endeavors.
When I called the CS line, the gal told me that there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak to someone else and she suggested calling my home branch. In addition, she suggested talking with another department that could possibly help. She transferred me to the credit card fraud department. After another 22 minutes on hold, I found out that was not the correct department and was transferred to another department. After being on hold for an additional 13 minutes, I was told that I had been transferred to the mortgage department which clearly could not help me. I gave up with the customer service line.
I waited until 10 am and called my home branch. I spoke with a manager and explained my situation. "Jessica" told me that she did not even see a fee assessed for my account and that there was nothing she could do for me, even if there was a fee because I had used my "courtesy" reversal already for the year. I told her that I would contact her again the following day if/when the fee posted. Instead of driving to my home branch (which is about 30 minutes my home as we moved over the last 15 years) I visited the branch that is 5 minutes from my home. I asked to speak with a manager and was given an opportunity to explain my situation.
After listening, the manager left the office to consult with her superior. Please keep in mind that I was not asking for the entire $370 reversed. I asked if they would honor the upcoming policy change (taking place in May 2017) that the amount of daily overdraft charges would cap at 5 versus the current cap of 10. He informed her that "there is nothing we can do". I did my best to keep my composure, but I will admit that I was angry, hurt and felt extremely betrayed and dehumanized. I asked the manager the following questions, which her reply each time was either, "I don't make the policies" or "I do not know why that is the policy"...
Why has 5/3 decided to change their policy from a 10 OD cap to a 5 OD cap? She was not aware of the change (which is right on their website). I asked if it could be because their current cap is so far out of the norm when compared to other banking institutions? As I researched, I found that most other banks cap OD's at 5. I believe I saw one other bank that capped OD's at 6...but not one single bank capped at higher than 6, at not according to the research that I did. I believe 5/3 has realized that industry "best practices" dictates they align their policies with other industry leaders.
Why is it 5/3 policy to settle debits starting with the highest charge versus the lowest charge or by presenting debits in chronological order in which they came in? The bank manager stated that she does not make the policies. I read many articles speaking to this practice. It is clear that banks who settle the largest debits first do this because it is their best interests. In my case, 17 items ranging from $139 to ~$4 were overdrafted. If they debits had been applied from smallest transaction to largest (which benefits the customer far more) I would have only "bounced" two items, not 17. Many banks choose an unbiased approach, which means debits are settled chronologically, as they were made.
I asked the manager if she felt that $370 was a fitting penalty for someone who had overdrafted their account by (677) for a mere couple of hours ON ACCIDENT and then remedied it as soon as she knew it was an issue, even before THE BANK knew it was an issue. She declined to answer but continued to shake her head at me and tell me that there is nothing she could do for me.
I feel exploited. I feel like I was legally robbed. I feel that the partnership that I have had with this entity has been abused and that I have been shown that my loyalty and partnership with them are meaningless. My last words to the manager, as I abruptly stood up and exited her office, after she told me for the last time that "there is nothing she can do" were, "Of course not. I am asking a machine to do a human's job". I then took the money that I borrowed from my mother who is disabled and lives on a fixed government income) to the teller and deposited in order to get my account out of the red. My husband and I are normal, middle classed, blue collared people. We often live paycheck to paycheck. We are honest and we pay our bills. We live within our means. I find it very difficult to believe that 5/3's policies are dictated by a computer system that does not allow for human intervention.
This company who boasts its billions in net revenue annually, cannot see it in their hearts to help out a partner of 15 years in a way that means everything to them in the moment. I am ashamed to have such an inhumane partnership and will be working my way out of this "relationship" immediately. I am not only disappointed, but I feel absolutely exploited. I am sickened mentally and emotionally. I would never treat a human the way my family has been treated. It is despicable.

Got a call from a customer service rep. I told her the situation, and that I wanted to bring the account current in 3 months when I receive my tax return refund. The rep was nice, looked at my account, said I qualified for a deferment payment plan and then after 20 mins transferred me to loss and litigation. Not so nice rep there. She told me I do not qualify for any sort of deferred plan and that I missed two car payments 4 months ago. Making me almost 3 months behind.
I asked why wasn't I notified via mail or phone? She retorted, "What, you didn't notice the lack of payment in your bank account?" I said, "Frankly no!" I checked and those months I missed were right when my wife had the stroke. So, I probably missed them, I didn't deny it. However, a letter notifying me would have been nice! They don't send out anything! This feels like entrapment. What can you do. The guy that normally pays his bills gets screwed when he runs into trouble. They would send me from department to department taking approximately an hour of my time and giving no answer. I was current with them and with every creditor. After many calls, they told me my only option was to go through loan modification. I later learned from one of their senior loan officers that they had a program that fit me perfectly and THEY HAD IT AT THE TIME I WAS BEGGING FOR HELP.
They also quit reporting me to the credit bureaus even though I was current. Through my research, I have no doubt this was a deliberate tactic. Rather than go on and on about my last an mod, I will assume most of you know the games they play. I continued to make my payments, which they wouldn't take because they weren't for the full balloon pay amount. Needless to say, they have stalled long enough to destroy me financially because they reported me as in default. I asked their loan modification department each time if they had all documents they needed and they assured me that they did and it would soon be settled, only to receive a letter in two weeks that said I was denied because I hadn't sent in documents. I also would then receive letters from Gene ** saying I had done nothing to try to resolve the issues of my balloon pay. It would be the same with P Brian Moore.
I sent everything I had from them and responses in a registered mail. That is how I finally got to the Office of President. I began to deal with Sarah **, (Vice President of something). Still, nothing has changed. They continue to say they have everything except one thing. I send that one thing, they wait a week or two and then close my case and say they are missing a different thing. I'll make this short and sweet. I have a credit card with 53 bank. I have great credit, overall and never missed a payment with them since 2008. I had a balance on my card recently. I made a payment online and accidentally duplicated the payment. Not a huge deal, but this was a 500.00 payment. I called customer service to discuss. (A few calls later, and personnel) I was given the final answer that I must go into a branch to handle this. After going to branch, I figured all was handled. They were to leave 1 payment in place and refund me 500.00. Sadly, a bank can't refund via ACH (but they can take the payment of course). So I had to settle for a check payment via snail mail.
Exactly 4 days later I called to find out the status, only to find that they require 10 days before refunding the payment. The balance with the double payment is - $200 + dollars. They can keep one of the 500.00 payments, and anyone would assume they would be helpful and refund me my 500 dollars. NOPE, not 3 days, not 5 days but I have to wait 10 days. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME... I suspect this is because it's possible I cancel payment or dispute with my bank possible (Thankfully NOT 53 bank account). HOWEVER, there was nothing. It's been 9 business days, and my account shows a -$200 + balance still. Sometimes, one needs to look at the situation and adapt (maybe even deviate from SOP). I WILL NEVER REFER OR ADVISE THEM AGAIN. Note - Even left a message for the banking associate I spoke with locally. NO CALL BACK after 5 days.
I am sure I seem angry, but I can't believe how this was handled. Never in the world have I heard of something such as this. I have credit cards with other notable banks and have had the same situation occur actually (Though far less $$$ than 500 dollars payments). They did in fact transfer the funds back right away (But it was paid using debit). 53 doesn't permit outside accounts via debit, you have to use a bank and routing number like it's 1998.

They charge their monthly account maintenance fees to the account with the LEAST amount of funds and at diverse dates, so they can charge a non-sufficient funds fee of $37 on top of the maintenance fees. They also reject payments to debtors due to "not sufficient" funds, however they still charge the $37 "overdraft fee" for something that has not been paid. On top of that, 5/3 has the unfair and fraudulent practice of paying the "highest amount" first, making the customer incur "unnecessarily overdraft fees" if the payments were paid as they arrived. I would like to bring my case to court. Looking for others who have had problems with this bank to make a class action lawsuit against this bank.

This bank placed a hold on my account and returned items when there was clearly enough money in my account to cover the debits. The return showed "error correction, debit in error," when the error is actually the bank's error. I am have been waiting on a call back from 2 supervisors by the name of Vernetta and Jeannie in which neither have returned my call as promised. I am beyond livid and nothing is being done but lies being told by supervisors that probably aren't supervisors to begin with. Please take your business elsewhere as this bank is horrible. I've had nothing but a horrific experience and my issue still isn't resolved. This bank is unprofessional and they do not take care of their customers! Think twice before putting your money into this bank!

Don't know where they hire people who do not know anything about their job. After 10 years of having a mortgage against my condo at this joke of a bank, received a flurry of letters that they need a hazard insurance from me. So went ahead and bought a condo homeowner insurance which covers personal property/liability and fixtures. Of course, the externals, walls and common areas are covered by the master association. As everybody who works with insurance knows. Except the Fifth Third Bank people who don't have a clue. So they are writing for a thousand's time to tell me now that because I have a loan of certain amount, they need me to pay for insurance that covers the whole amount of the loan. Unbelievable. They spend all money to pay the sales folks and don't have any back office to speak of. The ** service in the banking industry.

I just recently opened up a bank account with this ripoff bank based on the fact that I thought nobody could be worse than Bank of America. I was wrong. They purposely hold transactions to post at a later date even if they are done with a debit card using your PIN number. The fees are outrageous and when you call customer service they are no help whatsoever. I can't wait to get my direct deposit so I can close this account and be done with them. Anyone looking for a decent bank to go to don't look at Fifth Third. They are straight ripoffs. I wish I knew how to start a class action lawsuit against them. They need to pay back all the money they ripped off of people...

DORMANT ACCOUNT-I set up a small saving account of $510 for my young grandchild. I received quarterly statements. I did not get a quarterly statement for the 3rd quarter of the year and when I did get the statement for the 4th quarter. When I did finally get a statement, I realized that I had been charged a fee for a dormant account which then generated another monthly service fee. The monthly service fee was assessed when the account balance was less than $500. By the time I did get a statement I had been charged $75. I was told that they were not required to send a notice to dormant account which may be the FDIC regulations. However, I would think that they were required to send a notice to me prior to the account become dormant. Nevertheless, this is certainly a poor business policy. I guess interest rates are down so they need to rip off their customers.

I have a car loan through this bank. They did not process my payment because it was not the full amount, including insurance that they added, which doubled my payment. My car has been insured since day one and has never had a change to it. This was an excuse to get more money. Long story short, they repossessed my vehicle and would not release it until I paid the insurance fees or proved my insurance had not changed. My insurance sent them a declaration page a couple of times on day 1. It took them 2 and a half weeks to remove those fees. Meanwhile, my car was still repossessed, and I was left without a vehicle the entire time. When I picked my vehicle up from the repo lot, it had been damaged. This bank had been a complete nightmare to deal with. Every single time I called, I would get a different story and a different amount owed. DO NOT trust this bank. I do not understand how they are still in business.

My advice is that no one, EVER do business with this bank who wishes to protect their own sanity and assets. I could fill up this page with great examples of how completely frustrating and incompetent this bank is - in training its employees to give correct answers, in taking responsibility for their own errors, in setting up user friendly online services or solving the simplest of issues when they arise without having to explain your problem to as many people and departments as there are dollars in your account. BUT, instead I'll just use ONE EXAMPLE and refer you to the other complaints herein regarding this bank. You should get a pretty clear idea from the volume of complaints here.
In short: I closed my checking account. Prior to this closing, I set up an automatic draft, initiated monthly from my 5/3rd checking, to an External account, to be deposited in the 5/3rd checking account, and these funds were then be used to pay an equity line also held with 5/3rd Bank. I was told by closing the checking account, ALL External transfers or ANY business related to the 5/3rd checking account would also end - so the draft would stop, since the account was closed. Makes sense, right?
BUT, because I already had problems with Fifth-Third ANY time I had contacted or done business with them, I was adamant that they confirm this MANY times in the conversation to close the account. Yep- they repeatedly said, closing the account was ALL I needed to do. Next thing you know there's an email alerting me to the initiation of a draft request from 5/3rd Bank to my External account - which of course is going to transfer back to a nonexistent account.
So, I called. And I'm told just to ignore that email, ignore that draft attempt. They say they can clearly see the account is closed on their end, so even if the draft attempt did result in money being taken out of my external account - and by the way, they had no problem seizing money from my External account, and had no additional input in how to stop it from happening even knowing they'd have no place to put the funds. (So, are you getting this? They don't have a problem with taking my money from an account - just letting MY MONEY roll around in cyberspace for a while and I'm just supposed ignore how completely unnecessary and WRONG that is, not to mention the effect in my other balances! Unbelievable!) "Just don't worry. It's all going to become a wash. Nothing Else for you to do. It'll work its way through our system. I however was not as certain.
Next comes the email that the draft was unsuccessful - as we all know it would be - and alerting me that this is a real problem! (Yeah. No kidding.) I call again. Same - nothing else to do, ignore the emails. But they keep coming so finally I just tell my external bank to put a Stop Payment in anything Fifth-Third is trying to draft out if my external accounts.
Next - I get a bill from Fifth-Third with a $35 charge for those drafts they attempted to grab and put in my closed accounts. So, I call. I said this is the short version, right? Okay - so abbreviating - I explain the issue to Person 1, who has to transfer me to the actual loan department, I explain to person 2, but he actually is in the wrong loan department. He transfers me to Person 3, but she knows the issue because Person 2 kindly explained it so I didn't have to go through that AGAIN. She removed the $35 charge.
But SHE can't stop the draft requests from continuing, "And in a those calls Ma'am, no one explained you have to call the Automatic Payment Department to stop those drafts?" (Argh!) So, now I must talk to Person 4. Person 4 stops the draft requests. Person 3 removed the charge. Person 2 realized it was the wrong department. Person 1 transferred me to the wrong person. An hour and a half of my life GONE (because of holds and repeating myself umpteen times).
Did I mention the home-equity line took SIX MONTHS TO CLOSE, because they kept asking me for the same documents I had already sent, until I finally just kept the file of documents I knew that they would PROBABLY be asking for again in about three weeks? Or, that once I had actually gotten the 50k equity line, I quickly learned one can only draw out $2000 at a time/per month! (WHAT? Even though I had contractors in my house that were asking for $10,000 at the end of each stage if the works completion?)
Or that the 5/3rd loan representative who recommend THIS loan knew how I intended to use it! Or that he was fired for not providing me with all the disclosures and info I needed or was entitled to by law (and which if I had had, I wouldn't have processed to get the loan at all)? Or that despite their more or less acknowledging I was pursuing and had in fact entered into a loan under the false impression the rate would be lower than what they finally locked in - they refused to adjust my rate or let me out if the loan or restructure it? Or that that took 6 phone calls (with no result and a different reason for the problem every time) before I finally had to physically go to a branch to draw out the funds I needed for the purpose of remodeling? Just don't. Don't EVER do business with this bank.

We have a number of ACs with Fifth Third and due to the balances are some kind of "preferred" customer. Various personal bankers at Fifth Third (they come and go a lot) have tried to convince me to try their special MC, more points, etc. than what I have been getting from Chase. It was clear, I only redeem for cash, a credit to my CC. The first cycle, we got 5,131 points. Doing a quick and dirty computation to what I would have received from Chase, which would have been about 4,000, seemed pretty good on the surface.
When I went to redeem, it was another story. If I get a statement from Chase and say it has 5,131 points, I can immediately redeem $51.31 as a credit to my CC. No constraints other than a 2,000 point or $20.00 minimum redemption restriction. Fifth Third only offers redemption in $25 increments. When I tried to redeem $50 with Fifth Third, it wouldn't allow it. Got busy, and said, "The heck with it, will do it next month."
So next billing cycle with 8,000 plus points, tried again. I did, but it took 8,000 points to get a $50 credit. In short, 100 points with Chase is worth $1.00. A 100 points with Fifth Third is worth 62.5 cents for cash redemption purposes. 5131 points with Fifth Third is worth about $32. 4,000 points with Chase is worth $40. Live and learn, back to Chase. The bad or sad part is I truly doubt the PB lady knew she was doing me a disservice. They are trained, or semi-trained, to hawk the cards and other services, they probably know nothing about the backside.

I am a CPA with 28 years experience. Currently retired, I review my three daughters escrow account adjustments annual and rarely have an issue. This year I have had considerable difficulty with Fifth Third bank. The adjustment is two fold, one is for increases in payments made out of escrow and the adjustment if those payouts (property taxes, insurance, etc) increase. The second piece is the cushion the bank can legally maintain, two months of average payouts. The next year projection shows updated payments into escrow and estimated payouts identifying any month where the cushion is not projected to be achieved.
The difficulty is that the letter firstly projects the escrow balance at the end of the current year and the next year projection should begin with this amount. Sometimes it is off a little if the bank receives updated information. My daughter's beginning balance in the 2017 projection was $334 lower than the ending balance in the 2016 projection, creating a month with a $368 shortage in cushion.
My only question, which Fifth Third could not explain, is why the amount decreased. They told me the difference was due to an increase of $80 in property insurance. When I stated that this did not account for a $334 difference, they were rude and inferred that I was stupid since there was no other way to explain the difference. I eventually was able to calculate what they did which was to make a small adjustment of $37.55 for changes in insurance and decrease the beginning 2017 balance by exactly the amount of the November 2016 payment into escrow.
I have emailed this explanation to them since they will not return my calls and am mailing a letter asking them to revise the escrow payment amount. This has been extremely frustrating and when I believe they have understood that there is a problem I have been put on hold or told they will call me back. The last person I dealt with was a supervisor in their mortgage department who refused to give me her last name (first name Jamie) was rude and insulting. My concern is that this is a new practice of theirs and will generate cash of hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars and inflate their capital and surplus reporting to the federal and state government in their annual statutory reports.

So I walk to fifth third after withdrawing $300.00 to pay my credit card with Fifth Third. So I go through the drive thru and deposit my money into the ATM machine. The whole entire machine went blank.
I called for assists at the machine and the bank teller (Shannon) tells me "Sorry we've been having glitch issues with those machines about a month or so." I stated to her "I just deposit 280.00 into it and I'm trying to pay my credit card. What am I suppose to do now?" She states for me to come in and she'll pull up my account information to see if it deposit. She checks the system nothing has yet been posted so she says calmly, "Check it in a few hours and if it doesn't post check it tomorrow." So I'm like "Okay can you put the rest of what I have in my hand into my account?" So she does it and afterwards gives me a receipt and a piece of paper with the the ATM Dispute number and the BC#.
I check the next day no money posted so I give a call to the dispute claims department I give full details as to what happened and she tells me my money will be put into my account in 24 hours. Let's just say I never got it and she put my dispute in on the wrong date which was (September 17, 2016) which it suppose to have been (September 16). I had to wait up to 45 days for information about my case just for them to have did a audit on the wrong date and I never received a statement that I have been denied by email nor mail so on November 4 I have to put in another dispute in at the same location in person.
I had the Dispute representative on phone & the bank tellers across from me explaining what happened that day to the dispute representative. I was told it would take 14 days. Guess what? It took up to 21 days and I still got denied even with written statement from the Lead customer service representative who was there when all of this had taken place and I was told that even with a written statement that I wouldn't receive my money. Well they repossess my car before I even get out of bed the day after Thanksgiving! Conveniently they were closed on the day they took my car. There was NO way to know where they took my car or anything since it was a holiday weekend. I had to drain my bank account to get my car back. The repossession fees were close to $700! For the next three months I will have higher than normal car payments that they will deduct from my checking account at their leisure. Because I was out of state, I was told I had to send paperwork directly to the branch. I received the papers in the mail and promptly sent them back. I waited about a month, and never received confirmation that the forms were received, or a check for the remaining funds I wanted to liquidate. Following that, I emailed the bank several times to follow up. For more than a month, I went back and forth trying to close the accounts to no avail. I then learned that I could liquidate the funds via an external transfer. If my balance was exactly at zero, they could close the accounts online without the need to work with the local branch. However, as soon as I did that, I incurred significant overdraft fees - one fee was $50. There were others as well.
In addition to the overdraft fees, I incurred several months of fees for not having the minimal balance. I realize those are the terms I agreed to when I opened the account months ago, but given that I had been trying to close the account for months (and that was the reason for a low balance), I find those fees excessive and unfair. I am extremely frustrated with the process. Now, I have incurred a significant amount of fees and still have not successfully closed the accounts. I will never, ever, do my banking with Fifth Third again because of the challenges doing banking online, the lack of customer-centered customer service, and the excessive, unfair fees.

To those who own a Fifth Third Bank 360 card there is an issue going on. I purchased a power supply board for a TV (Ordered September 15, 2016 - order # ** for $71.49) from Amazon.com. All this that I am going to write, is because I have contacted Amazon and Fifth Third Bank 3-way calling. When you purchase something at Amazon.com, Amazon then contacts the bank to obtain an authorization. So, the authorization is approved, the part is available, Amazon ships the part, and after the part is shipped, that is when Amazon charges the card, not before. The bank then debits the money for the purchase, but here is where the problem starts. The bank also hold the same amount, which is the authorization for 10 days, so if you had $100 in the card, the part cost $80, you are suppose to have $20 left on the card, but it's not like that.
Since the bank is holding the $80 for the authorization, you are now negative $60 (holding the $20 + $60 that you are supposedly owe, and you cannot use the card to purchase anything less than $20, because you are in the negative amount. Remember, you are in the negative number because the bank is holding the authorization process. Calling Fifth Third Bank is USELESS and FRUSTRATED. Not only that, when I called Fifth Third Bank, since the REP was not able to do anything, she got pissed off and after about 15 minutes on the phone, she said "Since there nothing that I can do, have a nice day" and hung up (I was FURIOUS). The bank blames Amazon, and having Amazon on the line as well, they say everything shows correctly. The bank is the one holding the authorization and the bank WILL NOT release it for 10 days, NO MATTER WHAT.
Update: It happened again. I do a lot of purchases from Amazon, and again, Amazon shows everything correctly on their end. I purchased two items from Amazon. One item amount was $15.30 and the other item amount was $10.37. ORDER # ** for amount $15.30. ORDER # ** for amount $10.37. I have attached the bank information where it shows what I'm talking about. Amazon contacted Fifth Third Bank and asked for authorization and it was approved. Amazon already shipped the items, so it will show debited under Posted Transactions, but take a look at the Pending Transactions, it is showing the hold for $10.37 and $15.30.
Those two amounts will be release in 10 days, but my question is WHY in 10 days if Amazon already charged the card? So, I am STUCK with the negative amount on the card, until those two amounts are released. Unless, I transfer some money to it, then I will have a positive amount, and when the authorization releases, then you will have more money on the card, but in the meantime, you got no money there.

I would never imagined to have run into a problem such as mine until now. Have been with Fifth Third Bank for almost 5 years now and have never been late on any payments. As a matter of fact, we pay a little extra each month so it ends up being a 13th pmt for the year. I had made a payment in June 2016 via billpay and it was short $15.**. Received a notice from them that it was "past due". Called in and rep was not able to resolve so I talked to a supe. He figured a solution that he would shift the extra payments I've been making to make up the difference. It would be backdated to the June pmt and all would be fine. Two months later, I received a notice that the account is past due for 2 pmts. Now mind you, the mortgage payment goes out like clockwork via billpay. AND I have never been late on any of my credit accts since establishing it when I was in college over 25 yrs ago!
Called in and finally got a supe and she assured me it would be resolved to my satisfaction. Weeks go by but no word. Called in and left messages. Finally talked to her and she says since there is no record of the call I had made. They would not honor what they promised to do and let my account show 2 mths late!! Talked to her manager and he kept going in circles. In 2012, my mother had a stroke. After a very difficult year with her in rehab and needing constant care, we found a wonderful place for her to live. She went to Sedgebrook in Lincolnshire, IL. Within Sedgebrook was a branch for Fifth Third bank. Because she could no longer drive, we thought that opening up an account for her there would make her life easier. Because she was having trouble writing anything (she also developed Parkinson's), I told her I would help her with her banking. I drove her to the larger branch in Lincolnshire and we set up a joint checking account so that I could help her write checks if need be.
She received a debit card that was also a credit card (she did not want the credit card, but they sent her one anyway). While I thought that was odd, she seemed ok with it and we never thought anything of it. A few months after that, I received a Fifth Third credit card in my name. I did not want another credit card, so I shredded it.
On January 3rd of this year, Mom passed away. As you can imagine, I had many calls to make to cancel credit cards, shut down bills etc. My husband and I chose to keep her checking account open for several months, as we knew she had some automatic charges and we didn't want to close it until we were sure that everything was paid. In April, I called the Lincolnshire branch of Fifth Third and told them that I thought we should close the account, as there hadn't been any new charges for a long time. They said they would close the checking account, but that I had to call a center on the east coast to close her credit card out. It took me eight calls to get in touch with the person that was evidently the only one I could talk to. When we finally talked, he said it would be closed (I had to fax a death certificate to him).
A few weeks later, I received a credit card bill with my name on it (not my mother's at all) with late fees and interest. I called the local branch and asked them to explain what this was for, as I had never opened a charge card and had never charged anything. They told me that there had been a charge that had come in from Blue Cross Blue Shield that had created an overdraft of $47 and that they had charged the money to Mom's account. I called Blue Cross, who apologized for their error immediately and sent a refund for their charge.
Then I called the bank again; I spoke to the manager there, who apologized profusely and said that it was just a matter of poor timing, that they had charged overdraft fees to Mom's credit card because her checking account was closed. Since he was the man who opened the account for us in the first place, and who I went to see when Mom passed away, I was surprised that they had done this. However, I was too exhausted to battle it because he told me if I just brought over a check for $47, he would make sure everything was handled and finalized with all accounts closed. So, I took time off work and drove a check over.
Here's where it gets worse. A few weeks later, I get a credit card statement again, but this time with my name on it and late fees and penalties. I call Fifth Third bank and speak with an agent who apologized profusely and promised that he would reverse everything and we would never see another charge again. He said they sometimes have issues with their systems not understanding what needs to happen. He also confirmed that there hadn't been any purchases on that card since my Mom passed, so it was clear they were charging interest and fees on other interest and fees with no actual purchases. I believed it was finally over.
The next month, I get another statement with new fees on it, again to my name. I call again. An hour later, the woman I spoke to said, "Oh I see the issue, the first agent didn't correct this properly." She tells me she feels bad, that I should never have to go through all this and to be patient, that it's all fixed. Skeptical, I hang up with hope that the ordeal is over.
Next month, SAME THING! More fees and interest. I call again, this time I can't control myself. I started crying in frustration because it keeps happening. This time it's a young man who I ask how in the hell this happened anyway, since I never filled out a credit card application, I never activated an account and I never charged a thing. He told me he could see that was true and that it shouldn't have happened. I asked him if they had a habit at Fifth Third of just opening accounts for people. He said "Absolutely not." I then said "How did this happen." He said he didn't know but it was clearly a mistake and he would fix it.
GUESS WHAT??? I just got another statement with a charge of $1. I called, spoke with an agent who transferred me to another agent who said I needed to write a letter. So I do. Today, I'm looking at their response that said that they had Conclusive evidence that I conducted the transaction. What transaction? For $1? On a card I don't even have and HAVE NEVER USED???
They go on to say that "Unfortunately, based on this information, we are unable to approve your claim, and no adjustment will be made to your credit card account. Payment will be due in accordance with the provisions of the cardholder agreement." In other words, they will once again continue this insanity and charge fees and finance charges on a card I NEVER OPENED and have NEVER USED and have been promised FOUR TIMES that they would close it. I feel like I'm going crazy. My credit score is an 835. I have never experienced anything like this. They are going to impact my credit and I can't seem to do anything about it. Please, please help me. I've never felt so helpless. All because I wanted to help my Mom when she couldn't do anything for herself.
It appears that 1) they opened a charge card in my name without my permission; 2) charged fees and interest to that card that would have been my Mom's; 3) they've admitted EVERY time that all charges were a mistake; 4) I started this process in April and just got another statement. They will not close the account; and 4) they keep trying to get me to pay fees that they keep saying, when I call, that are a mistake and they promise each time to reverse.

Yesterday morning I happily walked into a Fifth Third Bank branch and paid in cash the payoff amount for my auto loan initiated in 2011. After 5 years of on-time and complete payments, I was excited to have the vehicle paid off and have my title electronically released so I could go to the DMV to print my title. I had two interested buyers looking to purchase the vehicle that afternoon.
I now understand that Fifth Third will not electronically release my title for a minimum of 10 business days. After discussions with the highest ranking position I could speak to on the customer support lines, and receiving timeline indications ranging from "this afternoon" to "at least 15 days" from different people along the chain of command, the supervisor indicated that this timeline of 10 days is in place to allow for processing time of the final payment. My final payment was made in cash, at Fifth Third Bank, with a receipt in hand and a printscreen of my account balance as $0. The supervisor then indicated that she could contact the collateral department to "expedite the process" but that this would be email communication only and could take several days to confirm whether not expedition was possible (negating any expedition potential).
I cannot believe that there is no internal communication capabilities that can produce faster results than 1-3 business days for response. I also cannot believe that there are no alternatives to this 10 day policy for payment processing, especially when paying off in cash. I have never experienced this kind of delay with any other bank. Due to the delay, both buyers are no longer interested because I can not produce a title.

I've had a car loan through this bank for nearly six years. I am nearing the final payment and it occurred to me that I've never, not once received a statement, not even an annual one. I called requesting a statement and was told they don't do that. So if someone were using a car for business there is no statement to claim the deduction. When I used my own amortization schedule, the interest rate I was quoted by the dealership does not match the payment amount they came up with. Are fees added to my loan without my knowledge? I'd have no idea since they were so uncooperative. I finally insisted they send me a statement and all I got was a payoff amount! Never in my life have I seen a more unprofessional finance company! My next car purchase will be financed elsewhere no matter how low their interest since I can't trust them. Don't deal with this pitiful bank!

I opened some business accounts and personal accounts with 5/3 in early 2015. To sum things up, 5/3 makes my negative experiences with my previous bank, (JPM Chase), seem like a picnic. Looking forward, this bank will hopefully face a worse wrath than Wells Fargo... (perhaps actual indictment?) In a nutshell, 5/3 seems to have raised the bar on the ways and the extents to which they can financially ** their patrons. In the short time I have been with 5/3, I have had a personal credit card account opened, without my knowledge or permission, incurred so many "overdraft fees on top of overdraft fees," that those I tell, think would be impossible. Nope, they got away with this, and more.
Additionally, I have been lied to and disrespected by numerous 5/3 representatives when I tried to gain resolution to any of the aforementioned problems. Seems like 5/3 is going to keep ** its customers until, or unless they get a major, million-dollar-smack from a consumer affairs advocacy, class action attorneys, the senate banking committee, and of course, Wall Street. Of course, prison time for the primary orchestrating Bank$tas of 5/3 would be great. Peace. :-)

I frequently would do cash deposits at the ATM since it was convenient for me. One day the machine shut down in the middle of my transaction. After about 10 min of waiting I went into the branch and they told me there was nothing they could do but if I call the dispute number they would see that the machine was over and put the deposit in my account. They credit my account that day and then a month later took the money back. I called. They told me that the machine wasn't off. I asked them if it would have given it to the person who came after me and they told me it was impossible. They could see me on camera doing a transaction, I know they could see in their system that I chose deposit.
After arguing with the Rep for 15 min (he basically called me a liar, that I could have just said I did a deposit) I asked for a supervisor who told me to reach out to the branch manager because they get daily ATM reports to see if he had something different than what they had. Well he did find that his report showed that the machine was off $40 instead of the $60 I deposited, which at this point I was willing to let the $20 go. Well, it's been almost two weeks and they received the branch manager documentation and they still haven't put the money in my account and every-time I call they have an attitude and tell me they have up to 14 days to resolve the matter.

After the 2 months they send me a late payment noticed for the same 2 months and reported me to the credit bureau, I have never been later in my life since I was 18 yrs old and on top of this they have charged me interest for the same 2 months that the investigation was going. It's been the worst banking experience in my life. Now I know why the name of the bank is made out of numbers due to the fact that this is how this bank operates. After having given the representative all of my pertinent information (social, banking, etc) the phone went dead. I did not receive a call back from the original representative (Amanda). I called the bank back and spoke with Montez, who was nice enough; yet highly limited in his ability to assist me. The experience wasn't criminal, just highly incompetent by an organization in the "money lending" business. I would not use this bank again for any financial dealings based on this experience.

Rather than trying to figure out if they received the check and not yet posted or what is going on she kept telling me that my account was late and her tone of voice implying that I was lying about mailing the payment. That is not how one treats a customer. I have auto loan with Fifth Third and once I'm done making my payment I hope I never have to deal with these people again. I have an auto loan with Fifth Third. I missed a payment back due to switching from one place of employment to another that resulted in a pay gap. I called auto loss mitigation to get this resolved. Their office hours conflicted with my work hours so I requested we correspond via email, or if they called that they leave a message as to who was calling. Fifth Third was not leaving a message when they called until I requested that they do so. Even after I requested they correspond via email because of our conflicting hours and time zone differences they still did not do so, nor did they explain/state that they couldn't. After submitting the necessary forms and NOT hearing back from them I assumed everything was settled... until today, 8 months later when I receive a letter talking about a "serious delinquent" account.
I called the number on the form (collections) in which I spoke to a rude representative that repeatedly said "I can't help you". I asked about notes on the account, in which she responded "there aren't any". So to me, none of the discussion I had with whoever in January was documented, so of course no one responded to my emails. I called collections back and spoke with another representative who told me there were notes on the account, but none where I request contact via email...even though I was looking at the email I sent to the address given back in January. So here we are, an account that is now mysteriously 2 months past due, 8 months of late fees charged, little to no communication other than an automated call that may or may not leave a message and a "we can't help you" response. Why am I irritated with the calls?
Back up to when I first got the loan. Payment is set to automatically pay out of the 15th of every month, due date is the 25th. From the beginning I was getting calls around the 20th-25th of every month. When I called the number back (originally wondering who it was because no message was left), it was Fifth Third Bank saying my car payment was late. For about 4 months I would go round and round with them on the phone how the due date is the 25th and my bank sends payment out automatically on the 15th so it can't possibly be late, let alone be late when they are calling me BEFORE the due date. I was told they were taking "processing time" into account. Interesting thing about that, I received a message from my bank when the payment has been received by Fifth Third Bank, which is 2-3 business days after it is sent out, so about the 17th-18th of each month, so again, BEFORE the due date.
I stopped answering or returning the phone calls because of this, yet the phone calls continued every month. Fast forward to the first mentioned communication issues. I believe Fifth Third Bank to be a fraudulent company that is only interested in figuring out how to make more money through fees from their customers, whether a deposit account or a loan account. This is why the lack of communication to customers and internally. They are incredibly incompetent and rude.

I saw the money show up in my account, it was about one hundred to two hundred dollars' worth of charges, so again, they got the money back to my account, but now as of September 10, 2016 @ 1:10 am, I go to deposit my work check into my account using their "take a photo" of the back and front of my work check.

This all started in January 2016. We had a substantial amount of money in this bogus bank full of liars and criminals. I'm not joking. We tried to get it out of this bogus bank to put in a bank in another state we were moving to. They said they had to hold the funds for a month to verify the money's origin. Now mind you the money has been in this bogus bank for 15 years. Now they have to verify the origin? Well after a month they still wouldn't release it. They kept telling us it was wired to us. We kept going to the bank and never a wire. This was going on for an extra month now. LIARS. They would constantly come up with lie after lie about why it wasn't released. We hired a lawyer. Now this is going on for six months with us having a lawyer. Constant lying about everything to the judge and stalling on releasing the money.
In that amount of time they were issued 6 contempt of court and we're now getting fines of one hundred thousand dollars a day and still wouldn't release the money. The judge was with us the whole way. 6 1/2 months into it the judge ordered them on a Friday to have the three VPs from the bank that were causing all this ** to be present at that Friday's hearing to face jail time if the money wasn't released before court started. Well they were there and nothing got done yet so they all went to lunch and we're to settle the matter after lunch. Well guess what. The three VPs never showed up after lunch. The bogus bank's lying lawyers said they all had to leave town for some reason. You can't make this cap up lol. The judge put out a bodily attachment on the three of them thru the sheriff's office for them to appear the following Monday to face charges and jail time.
Well over the weekend this bogus bank somehow got to the judge and come that Monday the judge dropped the 100 thousand dollar a day fines on this bogus bank and said the 3 VPs wouldn't be facing any punishment because they were all professionals. We got a hold of a detective agency and the judge was found of wrongdoing and was told to step down. Now a new judge has taken over and this bogus bank still wouldn't release our funds until 2 months later. 8 months of absolutely no money because of these liars and criminals.
Last year this bogus bank lost an 85 million dollar lawsuit to someone else for doing the exact same thing to us. We are suing for more. This bogus bank full of liars and criminals has also been convicted of mortgage fraud and out of a scale of 1 to 10. 10 being the highest was given a 1 by the bank is commission. If you have a substantial amount of money in this bank and have funds elsewhere you could live off of for a while we challenge you to try and empty your account from this bogus bank. They won't let you. But if you can put up with their bull for 7 to 8 months you will be a hell of a lot richer. We challenge you. See what happens. We can't believe this bogus bank is allowed to operate. Good luck. Keep us posted if you take the challenge.

Four months ago, they raised my payment $60.00 per month. They said my escrow was miscalculated. I caught that up and they added late charges because they did not know how to apply my payment. Fifth Third has hit our credit, we've been charged at least one late fee & have overpaid our payment several times over the phone which is a $15 charge each time just to avoid them hitting our credit again. In the process of selling our home, the buyers are using Fifth Third for their mortgage. As a seller, I never thought I needed to take into consideration the buyers' lender. The appraisal ordered by Fifth Third came back below the offered price. After reviewing the appraisal, we pointed out blatant errors (including a home comparison not in the same city limits and failure to use an in-contract comparison in our neighborhood for the exact same model home, same square footage, built in the same year). Fifth Third would not allow us to have another appraisal at our own cost, which is an industry-acceptable practice. We even offered to have them select the Appraiser Company and we would pay for it. When we asked for a copy of their policies that state they never accept a second appraisal or a list of the conditions in which they do allow it, they will not/can not provide it.
After coming to terms with the buyers, Fifth Third then informs us the closing date is delayed by at least a week. Depending on this delay it will affect payments we have on the home we are selling, additional utilities costs, and is delaying payment we can make on upgrades to our new home as it is waiting on the funds from the sale of our old home. Our only recourse is to pull the contract on the home we are selling and look for other buyers or I have to continue to be subjected to the unprofessional behaviors of Fifth Third. If you are selling your home, I would be wary of accepting offers from anyone who is getting their mortgage from Fifth Third. I am writing this letter to you to let you know of the horrible experience received at Fifth Third Bank on 1250 N Green River Rd Evansville, IN 47715. On 7/6/2016 I drove up in the drive thru to deposit and withdraw cash with my daughter and grandson. This was my daughter's pay check and accounts. I gave check signed with her bank card along with her ID. This process we go thru every two weeks. My daughter has had account with Fifth Third Bank since she was in middle school. She is now 20 and has account now also for her son at this bank. We have never been asked to complete a deposit ticket before. This is something that has always been done for her and she has only had to sign if she received money back. On the 5th Teller ** was the recipient of my daughter's business.
I asked that she please deposit check in checking account and give back 65.00 with 20.00 of this 65.00 to be in ones. (I also wanted to let you know that only one other car was in the drive thru at this time and another teller was taking care of them.) She said "I will need you to complete a deposit ticket." I told her that we have never had to do this before and asked that she complete it. She then waved it at me and said "this is an official document and you must complete." I told her that we have always had this completed by the bank in the drive thru and we did not have account numbers with us. She then stated "so then you are telling me that you want me to complete this." I said "yes please." I was very upset at this point since I know this teller was just giving me a hard time. We waited a little over five minutes while she took check and cards to another computer or somewhere we could not see her.
I then rang the teller button and asked "what is taking so long. Is there a problem." The ** then showed up at the window and said "it is taking me this long because I have to look up your account info and complete this deposit slip since you refused to complete." She then asked me what I wanted her to do. I said "do your job and deposit the check and give us the cash requested. With the information that was provided to you this should not take this long. You are not busy with drive thru clients at this time." At this point I was hopping mad and told her to give me the damn check and her bank cards. I also should not have but I called her a ** since she was taking her time just because she was asked to complete deposit ticket.
I will tell you that some of my frustration was her attitude towards us and having us in the drive thru for 10 minutes to deposit a check that was a little over 200.00 dollars with a small cashback request is ridiculous especially since she was clearly showing us that she was not happy with our requests and was going to make us wait because of it. My daughter had already signed the slip for her at her request. I left the drive thru and came into the bank to talk with the bank manager regarding my situation. When I walked in I was asked by ** "would you like to talk to the bank manager" and I did not even answer her when she said "I guess that is a no". The bank manager then walked up and said "are you the one that was just in the drive thru and was cursing. I see you are very upset. I would like to help you. Can we go to my office and talk."
She stated "I am going to have to ask you to leave this bank. I am the manager and I have the right to do this." I told her I was not leaving without depositing the check. She then pushed the check back to me and said "leave now." I told her I was not leaving until I have closed all 4 of my accounts and I would not be returning to Fifth Third at all. She then asked me to go to her office. I refused at first because I was trying to calm down. I then went to her office. She started to pull up the account information and once she had it up and saw how much money I was withdrawing she said "I can go ahead and cash this check as a onetime courtesy." That made me even more upset. I know I had to leave this bank before I really blew my top. When ** did this she made me feel like I was not worth her time, but when she saw I was worth more than a 200.00 check she was willing to help. This was too little too late.
I also let her know that she did not even ask why I was so upset but I told her that her teller was very rude and purposely had us wait for 10 mins because she did not want to assist with a deposit slip. She then said "ok." I told her to give me the check and cards and to go to Hell. I left this bank and went down the street to the next Fifth Third bank and received the treatment that we were used to and the courtesy of completing the deposit slip and only having to sign it for cash requested back. This took less than two minutes. The teller also gave my grandson a sucker and I grandson said "thank you" and she said "you are so welcome. Come back and see us again." She thanked us for our business and asked if she could do anything else to assist. I told her no and she said "have a good evening and thank you for using Fifth Third."
This is the service I was used to getting. I will now tell you my daughter's situation and why we really appreciated the courtesy of completing the deposit slip. In May of 2015 my daughter was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. This has affected her eyes the most in the last few months. She can no longer drive and has a great deal of difficulty seeing small print. I should not have to share this information to receive courtesy that I know your bank had always provided before ** and ** showed me that my service is based on the amount of money you have at this branch.
This has put such a bad taste in my mouth about Fifth Third that I will be closing and moving my 4 accounts to another bank. I hope that you use this story to improve on the customer service as I have filed this complaint with Consumer Affairs and it looks as if you have many customers that have received poor customer service. I also just called Fifth Third Customer Service and I was told that Fifth Third does not have customer complaint line or e-mail address. I could give to her over phone and she would pass to supervisor. I asked for corporate phone number and she "we do not give this info out." WOW.

My husband had a car loan with Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, OH and paying the car loan diligently. We had two more years on the loan when he passed away suddenly. As his wife, I continued to pay the loan in the same manner and was a week early. I got a call from First Third and how they knew he passed is beyond my understand. They were demanding, cruel, cold and heartless! There were no condolences. They told me that according to the contract only my husband is allowed to pay monthly and I am either to pay the entire amount now, or go get another loan at "another bank." According to probate laws of Connecticut, where we live, they were not supposed to call the family of the person who took out the loan, but the estate, so they were calling us illegally. Our probate lawyer advised us to continue to pay the loan as we have been doing.
A few days after my second payment was sent, I get a letter from Fifth Third Bank telling me that as of my next payment they are adding $1.38 interest since the loan is not in my name, from now on, and again demanded that I pay the entire loan, otherwise I should be grateful they are letting me pay monthly with the extra interest and they are doing it as a courtesy.
Since my husband's death was sudden, it was also traumatic. Besides my grief, I am dealing with the stress of getting my financial affairs in order and the treatment of Fifth World Bank has exacerbated an already tumultuous time. Nothing this Company did was appropriate for the circumstances! They never once addressed the tragedy we are going through. They offered NO alternatives or explanations but all they wanted was for us to pay the full amount!!! The treatment we received was less like that of a bank, but more like that of a loan shark. Beware!

I had the misfortune of my mortgage being sold to Fifth Third Bank. Their customer service department is atrocious. People can't wait to get you off the phone, they don't care if they have solved your problem. I was unable to register an online account without being locked out of their system. Their automated system that answers your call doesn't recognize numbers you press so you are stuck in a loop of computer operator messages. I tried to refinance my mortgage with them at one point and there was zero follow through from the agent. It was so bad the manager took over the refi process and apologized for the former agent's mishandling. I can't wait until I can refinance with another lender and get far away from this bank.

This all started 5 months ago. We received a letter from 53rd Bank to refinance a loan ($50K) we already have at a lower interest rate. It was suppose to save us about $50 a month. We said great, why not. I am retired and my wife and I work part-time for the school sub system. The only income we have is social security. The bank has given us the run around for 5 months requesting document after document that we have provided. They wanted our pay stubs from the school which we provided. Now they tell us it is in the wrong format.
I can't believe there is a problem because they are already taking the payment monthly out of our account which has never ever been late. I personally think it is a sham. The inquiries they have made has resulted in my credit score dropping from the low 800's to the mid 700"s and we have had enough. Beware of this company. My wife and I are going to cut all ties with this company soon. They requested our tax returns for 2015 and 2014 - provided. My Social Security Awards letter - provided. W-2 from my last part time job - provided. Pay stubs for my wife and myself from Charlotte Mecklenburg School System - provided. This is so strange because we already have a loan with them for $ 50,000 and the monthly payment is being deducted $288.00 a month. The new loan would have been about $240 a month. Consumers beware!

I made a large deposit Friday evening and I was aware of the hold and I spoke with Natalie the teller whom I usually go to! Yes I'm aware of the negative balance we had that because of the situation of our car no excuses. But I'm currently not working my husband is the only income right now and has been for about a year due to my medical history, I will have documents if need be for records, but as you can see every Friday there is a direct deposit so I don't understand she made me aware Friday she would let me know Monday that she would call and verify funds on the check and if it was good she would take care of the hold! She took my number and said she would let me know.
I called Monday was told she was on another call. I was told the other girl she had my info and again she would call me back. So I waited about 4:30- 5 or so. I called back, she had left for the day. I spoke to the same girl. I asked if she gave her my message she said, "I did," and sit in silence like she didn't know why she hadn't called me back. I explained my situation. She said the manager hadn't been there today. I said, "Then how come she couldn't call and at least tell me that?" So the next morning I called again. Left another message and now here it is Wednesday and I'm writing you! Ok I understand the banks draw interest on a check for how ever long they want to hold it but I'm struggling. We have been patient. My husband is doing the best he can. I'm not one of those wives who sit at home and draw a check from the government. No, I'm not getting anything. No money at all so all I'm asking is self-respect!

Needed to pay off the car, get the title, and remove my name from the asset. Time is of the essence! Logged into the account on Friday and saw a payoff amount. I decided to call and verify the amount before I made an ACH transaction. Customer Service insisted that I could not do that and I would have to travel to my bank and institute a wire transfer or send a check. I decided to pay it off through the website anyways. My payment showed as PENDING. 3 hours later I logged back in and the payment disappeared! No evidence whatsoever that I made a payment. Wrote to them through their secure mail asking what happened to the payment. No answer at all. Looked under contact us and saw that customer service was available Saturdays 8am - 5pm.
I called Saturday only to hear a recording that Customer Service was closed and only open M-F 8am - 5pm. Come Monday still no response via email. However the payment cleared and the car was paid and the account was closed. Fine. Now I NEED the title... FORGET IT! After much time on the phone they have no way to expedite a title AND they are holding it on purpose for another 10 DAYS! Money has cleared, account is closed! Furthermore after indicating I don't have a problem driving six hours to get it, I find that the title is in California!!! Fifth Third doesn't even have it and they won't tell me who does and they have no way to expedite anything even for a payment! I even offered to pay for overnight delivery.
Don't deal with these goofballs as they run a shoddy and unprofessional business that classifies you as just another FICO score! That title should have been at the Fifth Third main office in Ohio in a file... pull it, stamp it clear of lien, stick it in an envelope and ship it. Should be that simple but not with these folks! Not at all! I'm in a real pickle and they simply won't help. I will never deal with them again despite what their interest rate is. Stinkin' car finance manager got me involved with them. Go local when financing so you know where your stuff is and can get it very quick. My CU stamped my title and handed it to me the same day I paid off a car. Now I am having to investigate the legalities of Fifth Third holding my title AFTER the loan has been paid and closed. Never again Fifth Third!

I constantly have to go thru 7-16 people to get a problem solved... even something as minor as an address change. Fees are incredible. Just a terrible experience. Closed all accounts.
