For a company that handles money whether it's day-to-day banking or living such as mortgages, it's pretty unrealistic that it's impossible to enroll in auto-pay over the phone let alone on web. Customer service wants to discuss security measures when it comes to verifying bank accounts for auto-pay, which is understandable, but what is mind-blowing at best is the only way to enroll is to literally write your account information on a piece of paper and keep your fingers crossed that it gets directly to them, let alone in the hands of someone trustworthy. The only suggestion they could give was going to my nearest branch....sure, I'll drive states away. Looking at the overall reviews and the 1 out of 5 stars this place is rated with, I can see why. Especially with something as simple as this.

Fifth Third Bank is literally the worst bank I have ever dealt with. My mortgage was sold to them from MB Financial and they have literally stole money stating they made an escrow payment for property taxes and after asking for proof that the payment was made back in April of 2019, they state the check was not in fact cashed and would be given back to me. If I had not checked my escrow payments diligently, I would have never realized and they had no intention of refunding that $852.00 back to me.
I also won my property tax appeal and the alleged customer service manager Tally ** lacked the ability to read or comprehend that the escrow account was nearly a thousand dollars in overage and even though I requested the overage be refunded back to me, they completed another analysis with the same escalated figures so they don’t have to pay the overage for several months by reducing my mortgage payments. They engage in deceptive escrow practices and would have stolen $852 if not consistently proactive. I am looking to refinance as soon as possible to never deal with this bank again in life.

I had to call and speak to a manager who initially said she could not help but did understand my frustration. She said she would make some calls and get back to me. She was able to reverse the 2 mortgage pymts they pulled in error, return the funds to my account, and finally correct the payment as I had asked 2 months ago. Thank you. It seems 5/3 does not empower their employees to solve simple problems, how frustrating for them as well.

Went to my local 5/3 branch to increase my automatic mortgage pymt. A gentleman while very nice didn't seem to know what he was doing as he helped me. Then he said it was done and reiterated what I had asked for, confirming he had the info correct, which he did. I did not sign anything or get any paperwork. Two months later I realize he did not increase my payment. He actually ADDED a second payment. I went back to the branch today to rectify the problem. Forty-five minutes later I leave with no real resolution and at the end of the day I still do not have my money back. I used to be a mgr at a bank and I would never have let a customer wait to get their $ back. I'm told it may take 4 days. Ridiculous! I will be closing my account.

The staff keep rotating, manager totally rude and now they ask to have a business account in other to get small bills or even coins. You can have multiple accounts but if it's not a business one, they refuse to give you change! My husband was not helped yesterday to get into our safe because he does not have an active account with them, but our whole family total we have 4 accounts plus the safe box! So People needs to be trained to help customers and not to block them from having business with the place they work for. Overpaid on our account for four years. Second to last payment was 11 days late and they reported it as over 30 days late and it dropped my credit rating by 66 points. They claimed we didn't pay the total amount due. Didn't find out until after I had paid off the account and now when I log in to the account I can't retrieve my monthly statements to show them we paid the amount that was due. Paid off my auto loan today with CASH and took my title with me and after I made payment in full, they refused to sign off on title. Teller said she is waiting for printer to print receipt. To have seat and she would bring it to me. She bought it to me all folded up and said, "There you go." So I read the letter when I got to car, and it was a payoff letter, not a lien release letter. So I went back into the bank and got in somewhat of a argument with teller, she said this is the way they do it, that I would receive a lien release letter in about 2 weeks. Well I had the truck sold that day and needless to say the buyer backed out. I been buying and selling automobiles, boats, etc. for over 50 yrs. WHAT'S UP WITH THIS **? Gave them a 1 star because I couldn't give them a negative 5. DO NOT USE FIFTH THIRD BANK!!!

If I could I'd give this bank a ZERO for 3 different supervisors lying to me and promising me to fix their mistake regarding incorrectly reporting me to the credit bureaus and dropping my perfect score that I’ve built up for the past twenty years -74 points. Long story short I made two payments on my mortgage within the same billing cycle. I get paid biweekly so I've always paid every 2 weeks, so essentially 2 payments to equal the whole lump payment for one month. I had MB Financial for 3 years and never had a problem paying this way until 5/3 took over my mortgage loan. I was told since I made 2 payments within 30 days, it "confused" the system and they actually sent me one of the checks back in the mail. In turn this made my mortgage late since they sent ME back the payment, God knows why you are sending me back YOUR money?!
This in turn led to them reporting a late payment and dropping my score 74 points. Seventy four points could cost me getting approved for a much needed new car, or any loan I might need in the future. I've taken pride with keeping a perfect credit score for the past 20 years, I've NEVER had a late payment. Makes me wonder if you did this so I pay higher interest rates on all loans in the future and you all make more money off me in the long run? Next step is to file a complaint with the BBB. Three different supervisors promising to fix it, all recorded on my phone, but no action has been made to my credit report.

Fifth Third has held my equity check that I got from closing on my house for two days so far without interest. Even though the check has cleared and I asked the manager at the Brownsburg Indiana fifth third to release the funds she said no and didn’t care if I contacted the FDIC to file a complaint of fraudulently holding funds without interest. AVOID THIS BANK. They call obsessively after you tell them not to. Had to change my phone number bc they wouldn’t stop trying to sell me on products but won’t release my funds for two weeks.

If I could rate my experience less than 1 star I would!! On October 8 someone SIM swapped the SIM card on my phone blocking me from using my cell phone, contacted Fifth Third Bank pretending to be me and was given a temporary PIN from Fifth Third Bank to gain access to my bank accounts. They changed my PIN, password and ID and opened a Zelle account and withdrew money. I found out about this on the same day it happened, notified the bank, and went into my local branch with copies of all the emails I received from Fifth Third, from Experian telling me that 2 credit cards had been opened in my name, and the text message from my cell phone carrier telling me that changes had been made to my cell phone account.
My local branch manager tried to help me by faxing all the information to their Dispute Resolution Department. I received a Transaction Dispute Denial letter dated October 15. Their reason for denial was that the person gave them my name and phone number associated with my account, which enabled the bank to give them a PIN to get into my accounts. Extremely poor security and protection!! I told them I had a phone outage. They asked me to write them a letter so I wrote a 3 page letter, took it to my local bank and they faxed it for me. I have filed a police report and gave them that number.
Today is November 8 - one month since someone stole money from my bank account - and I am still waiting for Fifth Third to reimburse me. Last week I was told that they agreed to "temporarily" return my money until they finalize their investigation. I am still waiting!! I am a victim of Identity Theft and my bank of 14 years is treating me like I am the thief!! I would never recommend this bank. They do not protect their customers or stand by them when something bad happens.

Literally the worst financial institution I have ever interacted with - lost a large insurance check of mine despite my taking every precautionary measure (sent it certified mail, tracked it, followed up immediately). I needed the funds immediately after paying out of pocket for flood damage but it required a second signature from the mortgage/lien holder. You would think it would be the easiest thing in the world to endorse a check and stick it in the prepaid envelope with label I included. They stated 5 days on the website which I expedited with certified 2-day mail - and 35 days later I have nothing. I called 8 times and never received any informed, personalized, or even apologetic assistance. Interacted with two supervisors (Clifton ** and another, didn't get the name) who also did nothing. Refinance ASAP if this is your mortgage company.

If my debit card isn't being hacked, it's being told that the bank doesn't count change or long lines with one teller! THIS LAST OFFENSE... I deposited a check from a business that has been sending me checks for over a year! This last deposit was made on October 29th, and just to be sure it cleared right away, I walked it inside the bank because rent is upon me, and I didn't want to take any chances with the ATM. As of today, the check still hasn't cleared, so I called the bank to inquire as to why. They just arbitrarily decided to put a hold on the check until November 6th, which is 3 days after my rent is due!! THEY NEVER EVEN INFORMED ME ABOUT THE HOLD!!!! I'M NOT WORKING!!! I was charged $148 for overdraft fee that was PENDING in my account. I deposited enough money to bring it positive but customer service said that is not good enough, even though 3 of the overdrafts were caused by DoBot, a 5/3 service for Saving, not getting charged. Anyway they said the overdraft fee starts to be a transaction the day before, but the customer does not see it. The next day it is PENDING, and they say they can do nothing about it. This seems a deceptive practice and I have reported it to the FTC as well as the BBB and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Customer service will not commit themselves to correcting anything and just want to send me a USPS mail letter explaining policy. I do not need that. I used to be a Vice-President at Citibank on 111 Wall Street in New York City and know a manager can override a policy if it is in the best interest of customer service. Banks last year made over 8 BILLION dollars on over-draft fees and I can see why they don't want to give them up. The public should be outraged.

This is the 2nd time that 5/3 Bank has refused me access to my money. It's a Saturday night and (thanks to 5/3) I'm stranded an hour from home. And the fraud department (only people you can talk to at this hour) told me "good luck, your only option is to keep calling back and hope the updates are done soon". Obtained a car loan from Fifth Third through car dealership in August 2019. Submitted paperwork to Fifth Third in September to have autopay established. Made payments online for August and September. Still was not set up for autopay. Called Fifth Third in September and was told that paperwork had been received but it could take a month to set up. In October I went online and made the payment. I noticed that there was correspondence in the inbox. It was letter, sent to the wrong address, informing me that autopay had been cancelled at my request. I called and was now told that they did not receive my paperwork so autopay request was terminated.
I inquired about other ways to sign up, ie: over the phone or on-line, but those options are not available. Only USPS mail. This is insane in this age of technology. I will just keep paying this account monthly on-line, while all of my other accounts have moved into this century with their autopay. I will never use this institution again and advise against anyone else doing so.

I have done business with Fifth Third Bank for over 12 years and in that 12 years I have NEVER missed a single payment. In fact, I have never missed a single payment for any of my bills and I have the credit reporting to prove it. I paid off my card in July and there was a balance of .80 cent that I didn't know about. I didn't receive a single statement, not a single email, not a single phone call that there was a balance or that the bill was late. The late payment was reported to my credit and it dropped 96 points.
When I call to dispute this Customer Service tells me that the bank isn't required to notify me that my payment is late. This is how Fifth Third treats a customer of over 12 years. The bank may not have been in "error" and the bank may not be "required" to notify customers of balance or late payments but it says mountain about what you care about your customers. You have tarnished my credit and potentially my life for reporting a late payment of $3.55. I hope it was worth it. I will NEVER in my life do business with this company again.

I was dumped on to Fifth Third Bank (FTB) from MB Financial (since they merged or something). The loan was for a used motorcycle loan. I had auto payments so there was never an issue with my payment. The issue was FTB customer service, it sucks to try and get through to them for anything and when you finally do, you get passed around and they are unprofessional, little if any common courtesy. Now you are forced to deal with a 3rd party Co that handles their business, such as the Title of a vehicle "Title Support"! This is a totally separate Co from FTB, they charge you for anything you need to do, something other banks handle on their own for free.
Do yourself a favor. DO NOT use FTB. There are plenty other banks and Credit Unions that surpass FTB in every way. It was a waste of time dealing with FTB, I switched to another bank, better rates and an amazing customer service, I switched my loan to Eastman Credit Union a 5 Star bank! Finally, someone sent me to a branch in Chicago (Gladstone are) that used to be an MB Financial branch (Fifth Third purchased MB Financial about a year ago). Fifth Third included my escrow in my pay off balance and caused my closing date to be rescheduled. They also suggested I just use my escrow balance to pay off the escrow that was had been added to my pay off balance. I think anyone with a brain can see that that would have caused me to lose approximately $4,500.00. We did get this issue resolved which caused me to miss work for a second closing date. In the meantime, 5/3 took a second mortgage payment for August without my permission.
I have been on the phone since Monday (while out of town moving my daughter into her college dorm) with numerous Fifth Third reps claiming they understood and my money would be refunded in 24 hours...well it did not get refunded and it is Wednesday. Also I encountered an extremely rude lady named Lea yesterday who said there was no record of me calling numerous times on Monday and she placed me on hold for 20 minutes when I asked for her supervisor and never came back to keep me informed of the status of my call. Worst customer service ever except for a gentleman named Spencer.

If you are looking to use Fifth Third Bank for any reason DO NOT!!! I promise you will regret it. They have incompetent people working for them and asking to speak to a manager is a joke because they do not return calls or come on the line. I paid $54.00 to overnight as they suggested an insurance check they had to endorse and send back. They told me to overnight it and to put a self addressed stamped overnight postage on an enclosed envelope inside the envelope with the check and I would get it back Friday the 9th.
It is now the 21st of August, I have spoken to 4 different representatives still no manager and still no CHECK and they don't know where it is because it was supposedly sent. When was it sent, where is the tracking number for the overnight postage I paid for and included. Still on hold 25 minutes later because they are looking into it. Incompetent banking system. Worst experience, frustrating experience and lousy service. I'm waiting to pay contractors and get my house fixed and they obviously don't care about their customers. Stay away. Pick a different mortgage lender. I had no choice but hopefully you do.

I finally decided to to take advantage of one of the offers for a bonus for opening a new account. I was misadvised that I could fund the account by a Zelle transfer from my other bank. After it did not go through, I tried it again. Later, I discovered it still did not go through so I called the bank & was then told that I was misadvised & have to fund the account a different way. Unfortunately, the time allotted to do so expired. I funded the account & was not paid the bonus even after going to meet with a representative in person. I have the emails with the person who misadvised me but they left the bank & reportedly made mistakes. However, they should have honored their offer.

My experience with the Fifth Third Bank is nearly identical to many other individuals who have offered their opinion on this mortgage company. Like many others, I also had my mortgage account with MB Financial but my loan was unfortunately transferred to this bank nearly a year ago. But found myself very frustrated by receiving calls from this bank as if I haven't paid my monthly mortgage payment on time, even though I have always paid my mortgage payment with the first week of each month and more than a week BEFORE the grace period (15 days) is over.
Throughout 20 years we have owned this house, I have dealt with my banks and mortgage companies and NEVER have had the experience of receiving nuisance phone calls about my mortgage payments as I am experiencing now with the Fifth Third Bank. And have always been making my payments on time. My sincere hope is that any customer who is searching for home loans or refinancing would read these negative reviews and avoid considering Fifth Third bank to secure his/her loan. And again, like many other current customers who have have had similar horrible experience with this bank, I also can't wait to refinance my mortgage with another financial institution and say adios to the Firth Third Bank.

I was banking with MB Financial (which had merged with Corus, the bank I started with) and then MB merged with Fifth Third a few months ago. Towards the end of May I was informed that I would be receiving my new Fifth Third debit card. I never received the card and my current card was then turned off. I called customer service and was given an extension so that a new request for a card could be put in. I waited and still didn’t receive a card. I then called again and ordered yet another card. I made this call last week. I again didn’t receive a card and had given them my address each time just in case there was an error. Finally today, my current card was shut off again.
I called customer service again to try to get another extension so this time I could just have time to use the card until I could go close the account on my next off day due to their horrible customer service. I was told that I would be given another day to use my card and they were also working to send another. I went on my lunch break and attempted to order food using an app on my phone and an error message kept coming up during checkout. I AGAIN called customer service and was then told that the card couldn’t be cut on and I would just have to wait until the card came in the mail or I would have to get a temporary card tomorrow from a local branch. I work a 16 hour shift and can’t get the card tomorrow so this means that I can’t access my account for 48 hrs, which is my next off day.
I complained on Twitter and was contacted while I was waiting for 30 minutes to speak to a supervisor. I was then told AGAIN that the hold couldn’t be lifted. So due to the bank’s multiple errors I’m at work with no way to purchase food for lunch or get gas because I can’t access my own money. First thing Friday morning I will be closing this account. I have been using the same account (including all of the merges) for about 22 years or so and will finally be seeking a new bank due to my experiences with Fifth Third for all of about 2 months.

We contacted Fifth Third and tried to explain this to them, but they just said we will research this and get back to us. 1 week later still nothing from them. Then we get a mortgage payment letter saying we owe double our payment plus a late fee. We pay our mortgage over the phone since inception back in 2015 with MB financial and never had an issue. This bank holds funds till after the 15th then sends to payments. So we get stuck with escrow raise because it is the only way they can raise our mortgage payment to rob us blind. Of course now two days later they have put an additional 7 day hold on it and according to customer service and 3 different managers there is nothing I can do, not even bring a copy of the cashed check from the other bank. This is not the first time they've taken money from me. There were a couple incidents in the past where purchases over a week have been rearanged to make sure my deposits didn't cover it, despite depositing more than enough for the week. I was completely bewildered by this letter since I hadn't had an account with them in the past 2 years. Come to find out when I closed my account, they told me the account was closed when in reality it was still open. Even worse since I withdrew all the funds in the account when it was closed, each month I started accumulating a minimum monthly balance fee which came out to over $700 over 2 years!
I went to the bank and explained everything that happened with all the papers showing all my accounts were closed over 2 years ago and they still demanded that I pay the $700 for their own mistake. I was stupefied by how confident they were in demanding the $700 in late fees. Each month since then Fifth Third Bank has double billed me; i.e. they took out two mortgage payments in June, they took out two payments in July. On top of that, when I call they show no concern, speed, or urgency in acknowledging or correcting the problem. The first time in June it took over a week for them to refund the charges. The second time in July was done in about three days... BUT then they also reversed the charges a second time a few days later, which put my account past due for July. I then went to make another payment for July, took screen captures (of course), and the next day the payment is gone. Called and after about three people and 40-minutes they said they can see the payment, but it will be a few days before I can see it. My husband and I had purchased a car in 2013 and the dealership financed my loan through Fifth Third Bank. They gave us a booklet of payment vouchers to submit with each payment every month. I made EVERY payment ON TIME and for a period paid in advance by a month. Needless to say, we made every payment on time. The end of the term arrived around Oct of 2018. The last page in the booklet said that this was not the last payment, so we made a call asking what the balance was to pay. They stated the last payment should be a double payment so we sent a double payment in. We awaited title but didn't look out for it. Months passed and we honestly forgot about it.
It's now June and we need a new car, and having not received title on our car, we called Fifth Third Bank. They said our account was delinquent bc of one missed payment. They said they called my number every day since January and finally sent the account to collections in April. I never received a call, possibly due to a SPAM blocker. My husband's number was also listed but they never took the extra step to scroll down and call him or even mail us a letter. Several angry phone calls in, a supervisor deleted my husband's number and replaced it with mine, when earlier, they had verified his number as well. If this bank's personnel used any common sense, they would have seen that we made every single payment on time, they would have taken the extra step to make sure we knew there had been a mistake. They would have helped us make it right.
Even after speaking to 6 representatives, they made excuses and would not expedite getting my title to me after I had called right away to pay the supposed debt on our account. (We are disputing this due to misinformation.) This is the definition of POOR management, and irresponsibility. I will never work with them again. I set up a 5/3 account because the company I worked for had a short list of banks with which they worked so I had no choice. I hate big banks, but have used Chase for years with zero problems, good customer service etc., but had no choice so I had to do this. I went to a local branch to set up my business checking account. The guy setting it up had no clue whatsoever what he was doing and set it up as a corporation despite my clearly stating it was a single member LLC. He couldn't figure out how to fix it, and we had to involve the branch manager. This ended up taking close to an hour. Well, no big deal in the grand scheme, but it got worse from there.
I had a check from another business come in and deposited it. It was large. Apparently the other party's bank called to verify and he was out of the country on a cruise, so they could not reach him and therefore stopped it. 5/3 then deducted this amount from my checking on that day. Fine, of course as they had no choice. Then apparently they deducted the same amount again when the check was officially returned, so have now deducted this twice, which pushed my account into negative territory, while the ledger itself showed the correct, positive balance, so there was a discrepancy on my account page.
Not liking this, I called and was told not to worry about it, that it was a snafu which happened occasionally but should clear itself, my ledger showed the correct balance so I should have no issues. Ok, I thought, and got back on with things. Well, long story short it did not clear itself and stuff started bouncing due to their clerical error despite the fact that my balance was in reality positive. I had to go in personally to get this cleared up and they did nothing about the fees they cost me, not to mention the PITA.
Next they somehow hit my account with an Amazon purchase supposedly made on my debit card through Amazon. Well, I never put that card on Amazon, because I don't use debit cards for online purchases, basically because I'm not an idiot. I chat with Amazon, they can't find it either, and have no idea what this charge is and tell me it is an error on the bank's end, as they have no charge corresponding to this in my account and verify that this card is not, and never was, added to my Amazon account as a pay option, making it literally impossible for me to have made a purchase using it.
Next I find 5/3 customer service is a joke. There is no online chat to work through an issue like this. Their phone lines close at 8Pm so I miss that timeframe and call the next day, which is right now, as I am typing this, and I get a recording that indicates my wait will be 20 minutes or more. This is a pathetic excuse for a bank. I'm closing my accounts down, as these people don't have a clue. At least their ineptitude and lousy customer service gave me adequate time to write this as I was holding to talk to them And, yes, I'm STILL holding after typing this novella of a review. Pathetic.

I am absolutely speechless with the inept level of customer service that exists at Fifth Third. As should anyone if they were in my position. I put in a request to receive two years of account statements in CSV format so that I could upload them into my Quickbooks account. Quickbooks can only see 90 days of history from a bank and if you need to upload data from an earlier time like I did, you need it in a format like CSV. So not thinking I was out of line, I asked for those, and I was assured at the beginning of April, almost TWO months ago, that I could receive my statements in CSV format.
The first time I put in a request, I received an email that told me I would need to wait 24 "business" hours to receive the documents (which is more like 5 actual 24 hour days) and that the email would say "RESTRICTED" in the subject line. I watched like a hawk for those words. I waited a week and saw no email in my inbox. But of course I receive the post incident customer service survey email so I decided to follow up and see what was going on. I get on the phone to talk to a service agent and after fumbling through his verification questions he told me that the email I was waiting on had already sent.
After we verified that it sent to my correct email, I told him I checked everywhere: inbox, SPAM, typed RESTRICTED in search, etc. and did not receive it. He said he would put in a request to have it resent but informed me it would take another 24 "business" hours. I asked why he could not just forward it to me, but he said it was against their policy. Whatever. I wait another week, receiving the same sequence of emails leading up to what I ultimately needed including the email that said "Look out for an email with Restricted in the subject line. It will come in 24 business hours". I receive every email about the documents I need except receiving the documents I need. I decide to call Fifth Third customer service again. This is where things really went south.
I got on the phone with them for almost an hour and half. During that time, I was transferred mercilessly between five different customer support agents. All of them basically passing me off to someone else because they didn't know how to help me receive an email. After talking on the phone for more than an hour, the last guy decides to verify who I am and ask me questions like deposit amounts and where I opened the account as if I wasn't talking to four other people at this point before him. That's kind of like drinking at a bar for an hour, and then having a bouncer come over and recheck your ID to make sure you're old enough to drink in the first place. But I digress.
Ultimately, the last guy I talked to couldn't help me either. He suggested seeing if a firewall was preventing the email from showing, which was interesting. But his parting wisdom of "checking it on Internet Explorer can help" (as if the world's worst browser would magically solve all my problems) made me laugh. At this point, I was willing to just take it on the chin, and go into a branch and have them print out the data I needed so I could start manually entering transactions into Quickbooks, but I received another email that gave me some hope. One lady said she could send me a test restricted email to see if I could receive that. She sent it to me, and somehow after two months of struggle, I received a RESTRICTED email from them. It wasn't MY restricted email with MY documents, but I learned I wasn't crazy.
After 24 more "business" hours, I finally received the email with the supposed documents I needed. But when I opened the email, after going through the encrypted email verification process, I was greeted with PDF documents. Not only were they not in the right format, but when I asked the lady about it, she said, and I quote "I am informed that we do not have an ability to convert your statements from PDF to CSV as PDF is the format in which they are printed and available to us to provide to customers." No one that I spoke to during that time (and it was probably closer to ten service agents at that point) informed me that this wasn't a possibility. What I was waiting for ultimately was a document I could have just gone to any branch and got. It wouldn't have made it easier for me to upload it to Quickbooks like I've requested but at least it would have saved me two months of downtime.
I literally wasted two months of my life waiting on those Fifth Third to deliver documents to me that they knew they couldn't deliver in the first place. I seriously don't know why anyone there couldn't tell me that I could not get what I was asking for! I laugh as I write this because it seems like a joke but it's apparent Fifth Third is the joke. As a business owner, it goes beyond me how anyone at Fifth Third could be proud of the product they stand by. It is abundantly clear my business belongs at another less inferior bank.

This company has the most asinine process to request and verify evidence of insurance. My mortgage loan was sold to Fifth Third Bank, who is now servicing the loan. They sent me a letter requesting evidence of insurance, even though it's escrowed through them and they're the ones paying for it. They warned that if you don't send it to them, they'll bill me an obscene amount for their own insurance. So I sent them evidence of coverage. Unfortunately, they send no confirmation once they receive it from you, so you have to waste your time calling in. I did so and they confirmed they had everything they need. But then a couple weeks later I get another letter.
This time they ask for the master HOA policy. So I have my HOA send them the master policy. I again waste my time calling in to confirm they received it and they again say they have everything they need. A couple weeks later, YET AGAIN, I get a third letter from them asking for the master insurance policy, but for the year previous to the one had already been sent to them. Again, I have my HOA fax it and waste my time calling in to confirm they have what they need so they don't rip me for their own obscene insurance. This is an absolutely ridiculous process. Apparently they haven't figured out how to request what they need all at once. Instead they inundate you with repeated requests. At this point I have nothing but contempt and disdain for this poorly run company. I would not recommend them to anyone.

They will scam you as much as they can. Do not reply to them asking for you to pay a loan. The bank you once had (MB Financial) folded and they bought their loans probably for fire sale, but they don’t have account info or your loan info as to what the loan was for. So don’t give them any more of your info! Check your Credit report to make sure no false are being made from them or MB Financial. Next go to your local DMV and find out who holds the lien. If they don’t respond, take the return mail back to DMV and try to obtain a lien or what ever they can to help you. Stop Paying MB Financial/53Bank.com!!!! Until we figure out what’s going on. I have contacted my lawyer about this and will get back to you guys!

I said how are they going to take something when the card was canceled. They rude lady said, "Well you have to wait three more days."

Every year they fail to put enough in my impound account to pay my taxes and insurance even though they have the statement from my county telling them how much it will be. Every year they try to raise my payment $400+ to cover their mistakes. They do not return phone calls as promised. They lose paperwork. One year they paid the wrong homeowners insurance company out of my escrow impound account. Customer service reps always have a attitude, one time a girl started crying to me and telling me that "I don't know how bad it really is here". If you have a choice I would steer clear of this loser company! They need to be out of business!
Original Review: The loss draft dept is a joke. After submitting my insurance check to them for endorsement I was told it would be 3-5 days turn around. I even included a prepaid conformation overnight envelope to speed things up. My check sat on someone's desk for 1 week. After speaking to a representative who broke down crying and said she was quitting after we got off the phone because things are so screwed up there, I was transferred to a supervisor named Michelle ** who assured me she would be taking care of overnighting my check to me and would be giving me a tracking number by the end of the day. She said she would be calling me back shortly with the tracking info.
Needless to say I have never received any call from anyone and the tracking number I was given was never activated by UPS. My check has now sat on someone's desk for 2 weeks now. We have contractors needing to be paid and 53 has our money. Hold times to speak to anyone are over an hour and you will be lied to when they do answer. Even the employees will tell you that it is horrible there and no one knows what they are doing and there are no processes. I still do not have my check to this day. And it has been 2 weeks.

I would like to not give them ANY stars but this system does not allow that. This review is regarding the South Holland, IL Branch that was recently MB Financial. After living in South Holland for the last 8 years, I would always go to MB Financial and cash in our coins for my mother and I to travel on our annual trip to Las Vegas to celebrate my deceased father's birthday. Since I knew this was a place to cash in coins, I found some coins in my SUV that I am trading and wanted to cash them in. I entered the bank and poured my coins in as I usually do. My receipt came out for 24.00 and I knew that because I was not a customer I would only receive 22.63 because they take a percentage for non-customers. There was only one teller helping another customer, and I was the second in line.
After waiting in excess of 15 minutes for an available teller, I was asked for my DRIVER'S LICENSE, my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER and MY TELEPHONE NUMBER. All under the guise of "It's 5/3's policy to open and gather this information for all customers." GET OUT OF HERE. I've been coming here for 8 years and this was the first time I'd ever been asked for such a personal level of information. I was flabbergasted, insulted and afraid. I kept asking them (the teller and "a manager", Chris), if they realized the significance of giving out one's social security number and Chris kept stating, "I can assure you, we are a reputable institution."
Initially, I refused to give them my social security number but was told that there was NO RECOURSE to return my coins. I ended up acquiescing and giving them all of my information, but NOT my phone number. I advised them that I have very strict credit monitoring and that I would be complaining to corporate. I also advised them that signage should definitely be provided because had I known I would have to provide my social security number I NEVER, EVER would have put my change in that machine. Adding insult to injury, I called corporate from the parking lot to file a formal complaint and was assured that I would be contacted via email, NEVER HAPPENED. 5/3 seems like a NON-REPUTABLE institution that has come into the neighborhood perhaps with sinister intentions. I for one will be monitoring my credit closer than ever.

My mortgage was transferred from MB Financial to 53rd (MB is acquired by the latter) this month. I received a letter from MB Financial to inform me this change and ask me to mail in a check to 53 bank to pay this month (the starting month) mortgage to 53 bank since the old electronic payment method that MB financial used to do is no longer effective.
So I mailed in a check on time to 53 bank but surprisingly about 3 days later I see 53 bank collected twice of the mortgage payment (the first is through the old electronic payment method and the other is through the mailed check). The deposit I prepared at that moment is only sufficient for one payment. So the check is rejected. As the consequence of 53 bank overdrawing my account, there is a overdrawn surcharge imposed to my account by my own bank. So clearly as I can tell, 53 bank does not do as what they said in the letter or they misled the customer because clearly they still use the old electronic payment method to collect the monthly mortgage payment.
But this isn't the worst. I called 53 bank on the day I noticed this overdrawn situation. They agreed this was a mistake and they open a case for me and mentioned that they will return that rejected check to me. Astonishingly, today 2 days after the phone call to 53 bank, I just noticed they (53 bank) charge me for the THIRD time of this month mortgage payment by depositing that promised to be returned check. I am speechless of how irresponsible 53 bank could be. I have never seen any other bank worse than this one (53 bank). I wish MB Financial was never part of 53.

Just got switched over to 5/3 from MB financial and can’t believe how poorly they treat clients. I tried to GIVE them money and was put on hold the first time for 20 minutes, then transferred and put on hold for another 30 minutes. The first agent was polite, the second not so much. Each one told me a different “new” account number, neither of which were recognized when I tried to pay through the automated phone system, so back to waiting on hold to speak to a real person. I would have LOVED to have paid online, however they required I input the exact date my mortgage was generated for verification - which I cannot remember since it was over 20 years ago!!! Is that a thing? Do people remember their mortgage day like they do a birthday?!?!
I understand that there may be some glitches when banks transfer over accounts, but to have customer after customer say the same thing about ridiculously long wait times and incorrect account information means that 5/3 dropped the ball. I now realize how well I am treated by my own bank, JP Morgan Chase and how well they handled the transitioning of accounts when they took over Dime Savings Bank. Unfortunately, I’m stuck with 5/3 for my mortgage.

Now I'm attempting to pay a contractor and am unable to get the check from my insurance company endorsed. Having anyone capable of decision making would be a benefit, from the internal bank phone numbers to the external customer service numbers. I have yet to hear a person that can provide support. After jumping through leaps and bounds for 5/3 and paperwork to for the contractors to begin, we mailed the check priority. their timeline stated we should have had the disbursement checks within a week/week and a half. Well, after not receiving the checks in the mail, we call a week and a half later. They somehow didn't process the checks to mail out. So nothing was done when they received our check. THEN they tell us we can go to FedEx to prepay for a shipping label, email it to them, and this would speed it up after their mistake.
We did this and I received an email back saying they printed out the label and walked it to the mail-room. The day the check was suppose to arrive after we paid for the label, I check tracking to find that the check hasn't even been checked in for shipment. I called the loss draft department. The gentleman who claimed he was a supervisor reported that it had not been shipped out and during our call he printed the label and walked it to the mail-room. I asked if they were going to pay to have it shipped overnight. The man said, "It will be to your home tomorrow." I asked him to notate that in the account. He then stated, "well, whatever shipping label you paid for, it will be to your house for that amount of time."
After I stated that this was not OK because I paid for it to be at my house on a certain day and they dropped the ball, it wasn't fair. The man then just said "is there anything else I can help you with" I asked to have his superior call me back, but he, "Let's be honest here, it won't happen." Our contractors now have to wait even longer to be paid, It is the now the last day of April and the tree fell in February, my husband and I have had to call them numerous times, and we paid money to not even have them follow through with their policy or their word. Automated system is the biggest joke, so now besides from being upset about transactions, it is getting late at night, and this stupid 800 bite me number is not accepting account numbers / social security numbers etc. I am livid at this point.
2. Finally I reach "Elma"... Oh lord, put me back in the system. I am livid, understand, so some of my rants are from frustrations - but this girl, kept repeating (as the charges came from Texas and I live in Illinois)... “Are you sure you did not authorize someone, did you loan anyone your card, did you share your pin numbers?” I yelled into the phone NO so many times. I think my one dog piddled on the floor. I explained to Miss Elma, “You can ask me the same question a million different ways, my response is always going to be NO - so stop.”
3. I was having to yell into the phone "HELLO, HELLO" because miss Elma must have been VERY slow as she would stop talking for a period of time and then come back on the line talking slower than a turtle trudging through molasses on a cold winter day. 4. All I am thinking is by the time Elma in Molasses finishes this call, the thieves will have taken all my money and probably in the works to steal my dogs too. 5. Finally I think she was done, I was groaning in pain by this time, so I disconnected as I was fearful that I was highly considering sticking a fork in my eye - it would have been less painful than talking/dealing with Elma.
6. Side info... My bad, as I disconnected from Elma to prevent some type of health issue, I did not know that they also lock your accounts. So in the morning I did call the technical line and spoke to Miss Lana and lady was very pleasant to work with and she worked with me to reopen my account and was patience while I tried online to make sure it worked. After numerous times asking and having several men block the door from me, my sister, and friend leaving to get back on our tour bus that we were late for..a gentleman finally said he would take care of it and we left. (I should have known better looking back in hindsight). Well, they didn't take care of it and as soon as the money processed out of my account, I contacted the bank from Dubai to explain what happened. They said no worries and processed a refund on my account. Well 3 months later, the money was taken out again. When I called to find out why, I was told my dispute was denied. I asked why and they told me a receipt was provided showing that I signed for the merchandise.
I assured them I didn't sign any receipt and I could provide witness affidavits to support it. I was told the signature looked like a scribble and all I have to do is submit an appeal denying the signed receipt. March 7th, I submitted a signed letter the same day of the request with a copy of my signature. I was told it takes 10 to 20 business days to process. Checked in on March 27th and I was told it will be an additional 10 days. Checked in again on April 12th and was told that the appeal just started getting processed and I would have to wait an additional 10-20 days for the $341 I was disputing. Well, I told them it was unacceptable, and I spoke to a manager that assured me that I would hear something no later than Monday, April 15th.
Got a call at 6 PM est and the manager left a message. I called back 10 minutes later and got a rude person that told me it was denied, and I didn't provide sufficient evidence. What a freaking slap in the face. I can assure you the signature on that receipt compared to mine looks nothing alike (and I never signed any form of a receipt or receive a receipt from the store). Well, that was all they could do for me and I could pursue the merchant on my own time. What kind of business is this? Lesson learned. I'll take my money out tomorrow and close all my accounts with them. I don't trust a bank that wouldn't support me for a small amount, so why trust them with the rest of money. I only opened an account with them because my lawyer suggested a different bank from my ex but I will continue to bank with Chase whom I never had a problem with. Never had an overdraft, bad check, or anything until this happened.

This isn't the first situation I've had, but it's definitely the most frustrating so far. I use online banking ALL the time. I went to pay my bill, and a window popped up stating that date (of payment) was no longer available. Knowing this sometimes occurs when it's near the end of the business day, I chose the next day. 53rd took the 3600.00 payment out on BOTH days. It has taken me almost 3 weeks, 4 hours with Customer Service, 2 Supervisors, 5 lost calls during transfers where I had to start all over, and providing my information more than a dozen times and it's still not back in my account. Today I finally received the verification codes I was told I had to wait for via e-mail/deposit. Now the system will only allow me to transfer $2000 each day - plus it looks like they are charging me a transfer fee - to transfer my OWN money back into my account for an error made by their system. Money is still not back in my account.

Type in my info and got locked out. So here it is on a weekend. NO customer service to call because no one is there. WTF. “We're here to serve you a 53rd better my **.” I have no way to get to any of MY MONEY. I have to wait till Monday when they open.
Not even a way to get online with all your secret questions to gain access to your account. No ATM, No way to get to my money in case of an emergency. I am taking all my account and I’m gone. 53rd can kiss my **. The problem was not on my end. It was on theirs. I know my ID and Password. I use them every day. Count the customers down one at a time. Our home mortgage was opened at Fifth Third Bank in 2017. As with most mortgage lenders, we were encouraged with incentives to integrate our property taxes and homeowners insurance into an escrow account, which we did. In addition to paying exorbitant closing costs, we also wrote a check for the minimum amount @$870.00 in our escrow account.
April 2018, we received notice from Fifth Third that our actual escrow costs exceeded the amount we were contributing, therefore, our mortgage payment was adjusted @$40.00 a month. This was reasonable to us considering property taxes had gone up in the positive housing market, and we had similar experiences with these fluctuations with past mortgages.
Fast forward, April 2019, we receive another notice from Fifth Third, again, our escrow was miscalculated and we could either pay @$2400 now to cover the shortfall or Fifth Third would conveniently adjust our monthly mortgage payment by @$220.00 a month (@$2880 a year) to cover the projected April 2020 shortfall of @$38.00.
Additionally, we received a different notice from the bank indicating our homeowners insurance was cancelled and if we didn't provide updated insurance information, Fifth Third would insure our home at a likely higher cost. This despite the fact that our homeowners insurance check cleared our escrow account in early December 2018. I called and left a message at the local branch and also sent an e-mail message via the online portal. No one returned my call and the e-mail message was never followed up with a call either (despite the notice that someone would reach out within 2 business days).
I finally called back and spoke with a customer service rep. I explained my concerns with the escrow increase. He was not at all helpful! He continued to placate me with a scripted response that kept returning me to look at the table of projections and actual costs within the notice I received. It was condescending and incompetent, and utterly void of useful assistance. He never once offered to set a personal appointment with someone or to put me into contact with a supervisor. Additionally, he refused to fully explain why the bank had made such gross miscalculations over a 2 year period of time, only citing the 34% increase in property tax, which did not exhaust our escrow account.
When I asked to be transferred to the insurance dept, as I was making no progress, I received the same type of assistance, although the rep was far less condescending and did try to be helpful. He asked if we had received a notice from our insurance company of the cancellation. I said, "we didn't because when we set up our mortgage and escrow, 5/3 was to handle those matters." I referred him to the payment in December. He said, "I see the insurance co. has the wrong mailing address on here. This should be an easy fix. I will call the insurance rep and ensure your insurance is up to date." I asked for a notification from 5/3 when following his communication with the insurance co. He stated that 5/3 doesn't do that. But, I can call back and find out. He also reassured me that I had "lots" of time until the end of May when 5/3 would actually provide insurance if our insurance had been cancelled.
Unbelievable! First, I'm flabbergasted that adding $220 to a monthly house payment is somehow ok and "normal." What about families who are tightly budgeted and that increase set them over. Second, it reinforced all the evils of corporate banking. Regardless of whether it costs us more, we are moving our accounts and refinancing our mortgage with a credit union, as a matter of principle. We will not recommend 5/3 and we will continue to share our experience with friends, colleagues, and reviews.

I mainly bank with Chase, however, when I became a caregiver for my parents, 5/3 came to offer new accounts. I should have STAYED AWAY, but thought it would be nice to have an separate account for this. I had to do a dispute on Thursday, March 28 for a wig (yes, a wig...lol) that I purchased against my better judgment from a “company” I found on IG. We had great communication before my purchase, but after my purchase...NOTHING! Which made me leery. I sent the seller a few messages inquiring what was going on to finally saying I’m going to dispute the charge.
Finally heard from the seller a day after my dispute, but at that point, I was even more so leery and glad I disputed the charge. HOWEVERRRR... with Chase, the funds would have been back in my acct before I even got off the phone. SIX days later...still no funds. I was told four BUSINESS DAYS. That’s not fair to not include weekends. Since today would technically make four days, now I have to wait to the END OF THE DAY to get my so called “temporary courtesy credit.” DO NOT BANK WITH THEM because they truly DONT make your day a 5/3 better!!

Um why would you not just stop the charges and not them go through. So not only did these people hack my account but they got all the stuff they bought and now I have to wait 5 days to get the little money back that I WORKED FOR. I'm a mother with children and they are just like, "Oh well." I've talked to other people and this is now how it works at their banks. Then when I initially called the fraud department they didn't even tell me I had to call the disputed department.
I didn't find that out until the next day when I tried to use my online banking to see if the charges were reversed at which time I also found out I didn't have access to online banking. Then one person told me Tuesday. Now they are saying Thursday to get my money back and then a supervisor was spoken to supposedly expedite the process. This is horrible and they don't care about their customers at all. My day was absolutely not a 5/3 better.

Back in December 2018, an ATM card that was delivered by mail was stolen from my apartment complex mailbox. The thief was able to go online and activate my ATM card through the automated process even before I had set up a PIN. The thief was able to go to an ATM and withdraw $800 cash. Then he/she went to a check cashing store and tried to withdraw $1800. This is when I got alerted of the fraudulent activity by Fifth Third text. I was able to call in the extremely annoying and unresponsive Customer Service Automated service that does not recognize your social security number or let you bypass any of the pre-recorded options until completion.
When finally speaking to a human I quickly advised them of the fraudulent activity and theft. They froze my card and opened an investigation while crediting me the $800 that were stolen. 4 weeks later I received an alert that the credit will be reversed, I quickly called in and asked what had happened. They instructed me that the ATM withdrawal was valid because a PIN was used. I told them I never received my card and no pin was ever created by me. I did not withdraw this money, to reopen the dispute and provide evidence or security footage from the ATM that would prove my case.
After 2 months of going back and forth and finally complaining to corporate, a customer engagement service specialist was assigned to my case. She instructed me that the disputes department provided no explanation or had done any type of investigation on my case, no security footage was ever pulled because it was a non-Fifth Third ATM. I was instructed to open a police report which I complied and provided the information. It has been almost 4 months and I've been told that the internal Fifth Third corp management team is having meetings and discussing policy changes in order to review my case.
I do not understand how a dispute process that they have listed on all their company pages and promises customers the right for $800 can last almost 4 months and move so high up in the chain that management is having meetings about doing the right thing and returning my stolen funds. I've never been so disgusted and frustrated by a bank and the internal red tape. The disputes department is complete waste of time and they do not care about the customer. You are basically guilty until proven innocent by means of an internal investigation that is never going to take place. I have dealt with some great reps at Fifth Third Bank, but the disputes department makes you want to close all your accounts and run. I currently hold multiple accounts with Fifth Third including lines of credit and I still get treated like garbage.

I have banked with 53rd for over 7 years. I have had a mortgage loan, a checking account, and several credit/debit cards. Calling the main customer service number has always been horrifying. The favorite phrase is “I really do apologize but...”. The really amazing thing is that they have fees for absolutely everything and despite being told by customer service that this fee or that is unavoidable I went into a branch last year and had a manager wipe away multiple fees from my account relating to everything from the sun was shining the last time I used my credit card to it was raining last time I wrote a check. The funny thing was, the manager knew I had sold my home and was going to be shopping for a new mortgage. Miraculously the fees were not unavoidable and could be reversed.
Beyond issues like this the other terrible aspect to this bank is that I have been told that this person or that person can’t help with something over the phone and instructed to go to the branch. When I arrived at the branch the clerk then calls the same number to do what I had been trying to do in the first place. Of course the reason for making me go to the branch...fees. I moved my business to US Bank and I have been extremely happy. I believe 53rd should change the name of their “customer service” department to something like “fees and red tape”. People work hard for their money. It isn’t a crime for a company or business to make a profit but 53rd is beyond greedy and I urge anyone considering doing business with them to choose any other institution.

This is a rant, but it's base on my actual Fifth Third experience. My credit score is 797, my card limit was $2000 and the balance was paid off every month. 5/3 reduced my limit to $500... Just because. I've had the card since 02/2016, never missed a payment, seldom carried a balance at all, never late. The only debt I carry is a 2-year old car note, that, just like the credit card, is never late. As my available credit has been reduced, so goes the capacity and my credit score takes a hit (it will recover).
The RANT part is that Fifth Third has been going to crap for years now. I have other accounts at Chase and Wells Fargo and I'm good with them, but 5/3 was my only credit card. My credit score was sub-500 no more than 4 years ago and I started with a 5/3 secured card, paid off debt, paid all my bills on time to get to this limit only to have it arbitrary reduced because of what seems like I'm not a 'good' credit card customer. Meaning I don't max it out, never pay late, so no late fees, don't ask for more credit and only have their lowest-no-frills card. Customer service is a joke... Except that joke are funny. Well, the joke's on me this time.
I'll be closing this account and my son's account. Do NOT bank with 5/3. Do NOT get their credit card. The reason they are merging with MB Financial is because they would go under without the help. As it is more locations are closing. It's not a coincidence that, according to a lot of other message boards, and review websites, that credit limit reductions are happening at this time. $146 billion in assets and 1,121 locations... And yet still a 5/3 worst than any other bank I've had to deal with over the last 30 years.

I had a couple of car loans through this bank also. One which I paid $10,000 to pay off the rest of my loan. I receive A statement in a couple weeks later stating that I owe them more money because I paid the loan off early. This was the interest that they lost on the loan because I paid it off early. I was told for over 2 years that I could not view personal and business accounts on the same screen. I found this very hard to believe since one of their employees was able to tie my personal checking account (after 1/2 years of being told by various employees that it was impossible) with my business accounts. Then I applied for and received a personal credit card and was told there was no way I would be able to view that on that same screen. Then I called again and a girl said that you definitely could view all of them together and within a few minutes I logged off and logged back on and I could view all of my accounts. I was elated, but upset that it took 2 years to make this happen.
Then I lost my credit card and they sent me a replacement. After they sent me the replacement card, I have been unable to view my account online again. I called customer service and they told me that they were having problems with replacement cards and they would get back with me. I was also told by one employee that this couldn't be done and then transferred to someone else that said it could be done. He couldn't do it because they are having issues with replacement cards.
They did about a week later with no updates. A supervisor gave me her direct phone number. I then kept calling back and leaving her voice messages. No response. Then another employee called me back and told me that the supervisor was out and that someone would call me next week. This bank was the only bank willing to give me a loan for a new vehicle. Desperate I didn't hesitate to take it not realizing that for every $300 I paid a month only $200 was subtracted from the over-all loan. That's on me for not reading the fine print. Trying to pay off the loan monthly was doable but not without issues. Trying to make the monthly deadline was questionable at times as their mobile app and internet website always... and I mean always had "technical issues" forcing me to delay my payment until a few days or less before the deadline.
Fortunately I was able to get my hands on a large sum of money to finish the loan outright. However, it took me multiple attempts as the technical issues continued. I ended up paying the bank double the $16,000 left on my loan receiving an overdraw fee from my other bank. Thankfully Fifth Third reimbursed me two days later.
Having completely paid the remainder of my loan the extremely high interest still kicked in tagging $77 more dollars to what is still currently owed. Presently, every time I try to pay it to finally be done with this loan the technical issue resurfaces making it impossible to do so. I will try and call them soon if this persists. To sum up my experience with this bank, I am glad to be rid if them and feel lucky that I no longer have the remaining 4 years of loan to deal with their "technical issues" and what feels like roadblocks to pay my monthly payments on time. I do not recommend this bank.

For months the online transfer option on Fifththird.com website has giving error notifications when submitting a transfer of funds from/to external banks. If you do not have a local 5/3rd bank, this is a way to add funds to your checking and/or savings account. Beware, receiving a confirmation number does not mean the funds will transfer properly; selecting expedite transfer of one business day or even standard 3-4 business days does not mean your money will transfer within this time frame (it's highly unlikely actually); once you have transferred funds across accounts, the money may withdraw twice for the same amount on the same day (which is why I'm writing this review now).
A smart customer service member may detect the error and correct it, but Fifth Third doesn't have those in abundance – I know because I spoke with seven of them (how many transfers it took them before hanging up on me). This is common service with this company. If you don't believe it, try calling to setup your account. It might not go as smoothly as you think it should.

Fifth Third Bank's mobile app does not accurately reflect all transactions. It runs a 24 hour delay in available balance and "pending" transactions. One such "pending transaction" is Overdraft Fees. For those of us that rely on accuracy from mobile financial applications, this can be a "loophole" for the bank to charge overdraft fees for honest mistakes (such as trusting that the balance shown is correct).
If the bank would fix their app to show pending transactions while they are in fact pending, a customer would be better informed. As a real-life example, I wrote a $50 check and deposited to my ex-wife's bank account to cover my son's college accounting (how ironic) textbook (I wrote a check so that my payment had a paper trail). The transaction did not show as "pending" on my mobile app until the next business day (when it was already too late by their rules) and another transaction also came in that same day which caused an $11 overdraft. I made a cash deposit within an hour, prior to the bank opening for business. If the app had notified me that there was a pending overdraft charge the day I made the deposit I could have easily made a cash deposit that same day to cover it. Their customer service team has acknowledged that this is a problem, but they are limited by policy to do anything about it.

My mortgage was sold to Fifth Third about six years ago. Five years ago, they inaccurately assessed my escrow account, and claimed I owed them another $100 a month to meet all my taxes. When I told them they were clearly incorrect, and explained why, they refused to do a new assessment of the account, because they "only do that once a year" so I was forced to pay the extra money for almost a year until they did a new assessment. No apology but they did refund my money.
Here's the second egregious action: About two months ago, I received a letter from Fifth Third indicating that according to their records, I did not have adequate wind coverage on my homeowners policy, and that if I didn't correct it, they would be purchasing an expensive, poor quality wind policy on my behalf that I would need to pay. I immediately contacted my insurance company and they confirmed that I did in fact have adequate coverage on my existing policy, and they forwarded that information to the bank. It was information Fifth Third already had, but whatever! A month later I received a "Second Notice" letter on the issue. I went through the same process as before, except this time I also called the bank myself. I was on hold for an hour, only to be told the system was down and they could not help me.
When I called the next day (on hold for an hour and a half), they gave me an alternative fax number to send the information to, which my insurance agent immediately did. One month later, I received a THIRD letter with a bill for $1564 because I had not provided them with any proof of wind insurance. My insurance company called, and I called. On hold for an hour. Patched my agent into the call when I finally got someone. We confirmed the fax number to which we had previously sent proof of coverage, and gave a date and time when fax was sent. They suddenly "found" the fax and confirmed I already had coverage. And by the way, the coverage they wanted me to buy from them was for TWICE the assessed value of my home! SCAM, SCAM, SCAM, SCAM.

He said it was wrong department then told me loan department had 35 minute hold time. Well that came and went well past that. The catchphrase "I’m here to make your day a 5th 3rd better" Well that went right down the toilet. This is the 4th time that I’ve had to try and get a hold of someone about my loan. I had a checking account with a Fifth Third Bank. I am a long time well known businessman in the area. A customer of mine gave me a bad check by mistake. His bank made it good with a certified cashier's check within 24 hours. I was making a wire transfer to pay off a mortgage. Because of the bad check the funds were not there temporarily. Instead of calling me, they turned it into their bank fraud department and froze my account which had an additional $20,000 in it. After the fraud unit cleared my account they still froze my account for an additional 4 or 5 days and bounced several thousands dollars worth of checks causing me embarrassment, time and money. They said was its internal rules. Nobody knows why. Avoid Fifth Third at all cost.

Terrible customer service. I had an online account that someone charged over $800 to over the weekend. When I discovered it it was Saturday evening around 8 pm...no one is working!!! They do not have any live person 24 hours. But the worst is their unethical checking account practices. They love to make it seem like transactions are deducted from your account over the weekend, but will hold them until Tuesday, saying they were "pending" and put them all through and overdraft your account. They also love to put them out of order, biggest first, so it overdrafts everything...even though some of those debits are 4 days old. I already received a Case Action payment from them for unlawful fee practices in the past...apparently they don't care because they are still doing it. Huntington is 1000 times better and ethical.

After over 20 days, I’m still waiting on my $700 overpayment refund and my gap protection refund. I will NEVER do business with this bank again.

In the past year and seven months I have opened four cards. The first one and the oldest was Fifth Third. I made all my payments on time and actually had a $1,500 credit limit. All my cards have either been paid off in full or I'm making large payments on them. Despite this every other card that I have had has increased my credit line except Fifth Third. When I call them to inquire they say they need to do a hard inquiry on my credit to even do it. I said, "Screw that. I'm not going to have a hard inquiry which will reduce my credit rating." Why should I do that? Why can't they make periodic adjustments to people's credit lines based upon their payment history? This is the only card that I've had that hasn't increased any of my credit line for absolutely no good reason. Also horrible customer service. Whenever you try to get through it takes forever. Would like to close it down but that would increase my overall utilization.

Our car was repossessed. Fine. We paid the back pay, but the company added an extra month that wasn’t past due. We had to pay it in order to get our car back. We paid all of the money, over $3,000 on Friday. The bank, doesn’t send a release to the second company who is then responsible for sending their release to the tow yard. At this point, we’re incurring additional storage fees through no fault of our own and we don’t know when we can get our car. How are they effectively running a business? More Importantly, WHY are they still in business. I wish we were more proactive in researching this bank. PLEASE DO NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS BANK, ON ANY LEVEL! THEY ARE HORRIBLE. Wrong information and poor customer service giving wrong information! On December 27 I called and asked my secured credit card to be changed to an unsecured credit card and closed the secure credit card by paying it off during the phone call using my checking account. They told me and unsecured credit card would be issued to me by mail in 5 to 7 business days. Today is 18 January and I have not seen any credit card come in the mail from fifth third Bank. I called customer service and spent 45 minutes and put on hold 4 times and spoke to two different people. They said there was no reference showing the secured credit card was closed.
There was no other information concerning sending a new credit card. I said this was extremely poor customer service and I wanted to speak to a supervisor. I told the supervisor what happened and she told me there was no info saying the secured credit card was closed. And there was no information about a credit card being issued because I was now informed I have to do that through the bank by physically going to the bank (nearest branch is 60 miles away). I asked her why wasn’t I given this information? She said she didn’t know why I was given wrong information and she didn’t know why I was not given the correct information. I canceled my card. I do not want to do business with a bank which doesn’t know what they’re doing.

Please save yourself the trouble of doing any business with 5th 3rd Bank if at all possible. They are unbelievably slow and blame everything on any other reason but themselves. Supervisors never get back with you after repeat calls and messages. They always have a new excuse as to why it takes them 2 weeks to a month to reimburse any FSA funds. Blaming my employer... My employer pays out weekly. The most often payout as anyone!! They say I must have things faxed in on a Thursday for it to be processed the following week. Then that is not enough.
I miss NEO! There was no issue that they didn't resolve for me or process within, literally, 30 minutes of me faxing my information. Over and over time and time again!! So I know how quickly these things can be done. If only someone would put in some effort. I would be tickled to death if I could be tended to at least by the following week!! My last issue for reimbursement, it would state online that my reimbursement would be the following Monday. Then, come Monday, the date changed to the following Monday again. Then again that day, the date changed to the following Tuesday due to a holiday. And, yes, AGAIN the next date changed another week later. 5 weeks later, someone finally figured out that someone had hit a wrong button on the computer they said. And that was because of something I had asked them to do they said. Of course, that was MY fault!!
It is always something at this place. You certainly cannot depend on them for anything at all. You will be very disappointed every time! I am begging my employer, along with several other coworkers also having issues, to change companies. At least for the next plan year. NEO for FSA was absolutely wonderful to deal with. A true pleasure. Really went above and beyond time and time again to help you as quickly as possible. With any and all issues. 5th 3rd is just useless! I've not had one person there act like they could give 5 minutes to do anything. Of course they are not accredited. And have a very long way to go before coming close to deserving 1 star. Then they always ask, "Is there anything else I can help you with?" to which I brutally honestly reply, 'once again, apparently not a thing!'

Do not use Fifth Third Bank's credit cards! Save yourself the aggravation of having to deal with unprofessional and arrogant representatives. I opened a credit card in November. They had offered me a 7,000 line based on my credit score over 770. I also immediately applied for auto draft. This is an unnecessary complicated process by exchanging letters. No online feature! I got an auto draft confirmation in early January. I made my January payment as they stated it would take a billing cycle. My next statement had a payment date of February 14th. On the 16th I had not seen a debit on my bank account. I logged in to my Fifth Third account and saw a $27 late fee!. No reminder or alert. No e-mail or any other form of letting me know that I had to make this payment manually. They also put a ding in my credit score! I called and the rep. in broken English explained that the department was closed and I needed to call back next day.
She was not willing to send a note or something to that department. The process of calling is sooo archaic and malfunctions half of the time adding to the aggravation. So I made the payment that same night. Next day I called and after a long wait and music I finally got a rep who said she could only reverse the late fee AS A ONE TIME COURTESY...? She could not tell me if my payment was accepted or at least pending! I finally got the auto draft department. They argued (snuttingly) that it takes time to auto draft. (6 weeks?). She also refused to undo the delinquency report to the credit bureaus. I had enough and hung up. Save yourself a load of aggravation and stay away from that bank!

We had a 72 mo. loan with 5/3 bank. From day one they were a pain starting with the fact they would not accept auto pay. After closing of the loan, no documentation was sent confirm the load was closed and paid off. Now, since title was never sent nor a lien release, they want 3 business days starting the day after the request to process a single piece of paper. Then they will only fax it (didn't realize we were stuck in 1990) or mail it. The best part is they will not overnight or expedite the mailing process even when the customer offers to provide their FedEx account number. Also, no electronic document will be sent (email, secure website, DocuSign, etc).
When we requested that the fax be expedited, the answer was no we do not do that. Bottom line, 5/3 cares about one thing only, collecting their interest and nothing more. Now that the loan is paid off and their pockets have been lined, servicing the client/customer is a burden. This bank is NOT customer oriented like you would find with a credit union. STAY AWAY, far away. If an investor ever reads this, I would dump your stock as 5/3rd banking practices are archaic and one can only hope they will be out of business in the near future. Never again will I or anyone I know do business with Fifth Third Bank... I have banked with Fifth Third Bank for years. I truly believed Fifth Third Bank was great on keeping their customers safe and satisfied. I was wrong! I had my own personal checking account. In June, 2018 my boyfriend called his son, who is a manager at Fifth Third Bank and asked him to change my mailing address on my account and he had it done. I was not aware of the change until after the fact. A few months later, my chip wasn’t working on my debit card. I personally didn’t care, I just swiped it but my boyfriend at the time did care. He made another phone call to his son and asked him to cancel out my debit card and issue a new one to the address he had changed and of course his son done what Daddy asked.
Again, I was not aware of it until after the fact. December, 2018 me and my boyfriend broke up and he always finds me everywhere I go. I thought he was tracking me through his car so I gave it back to him. I thought ok, he tracking me through my phone so I replaced my phone. It still didn’t stop, the only other option is he’s tracking me through my debit card and account with Fifth Third Bank. I personally went into Fifth Third Bank's office and had a meeting with a manager. She told me the changes on my account should have only been made at my request! A investigation was opened and cameras were being reviewed.
Silly me, I thought, ok cameras are being reviewed, an investigation is going to show that I am telling the truth because I am. I made numerous calls to Fifth Third Bank, everyone I spoke with told me what was done was very wrong. 3 weeks later, the investigation was over. I was told by the branch manager, not the investigator. And I was told they found no wrong. The investigator did not call me at all but did call my exboyfriend to tell him no wrong was done. Why did he call my exboyfriend and not me? Because my exboyfriend is a business owner with 14 accounts and because his son has a “great” track record managing Fifth Third Bank and I’m only receiving SSI.
It doesn’t make a difference if you're human to Fifth Third Bank! They are NOT out to make Fifth Third better! They are a scam! I did not let it end there, I closed my account out and I called the FBI. They were very helpful and told me to call the Ohio Department of Commerce. Which I done and now Fifth Third Bank is getting investigated! It’s really sad because my daughter had accounts with them and several lines of credit and she will have to close all accounts out as well. Fifth Third Bank is a very dirty bank. Be very careful!!!

I set up an auto loan payment with Fifth Third Bank. Subsequently, I tried to set up an auto-pay in early 2018. After multiple missed payments with no email, mail, or call in regards to my account, my car eventually got repossessed. It turns out that there is no record of an auto-payment which doesn't surprise me due to their archaic method of requiring you to do it by paper rather than by a process of clicking through like most banks nowadays. I had got on and paid double the amount of the payment once as well, due to a late payment (in an attempt to pay both the late payment and the upcoming month).
The amount did not go to the missed payment but to the curtailment. This is indeed a predicament due to negligence on the part of the bank, for the website seemingly only allows you to make upcoming payments without being able to go back in retroactively. The only option to pay off a missed payment would be to pay double on the current one. If there IS a way to do so it is not a simple endeavor, indicating that the bank may hold their customers to higher standards in comparison to other banks. Regardless, due to the lack of user friendly interface of their auto loan payment, especially in comparison to other banks, it almost seems an act of deception in order to apply as many fees as possible on their customers.
The day my car got repossessed, I immediately paid off everything the day of and got my car back after the weekend. Since then I have made numerous calls with Fifth Third trying to dispute the missed payments so they are at the very least not on my credit report, to no avail. Customer service lines seem to have an air of guilt and disappointment about them, as if they are wilted from long days of complaints due to their company's terrible policies that lack any type of empathy for their customers. A letter of goodwill had no effect either, and I'm afraid my patience with the company has run its course. Legal action may need to be taken if any improvement in my financial history is to be pursued.

I've been a loyal Fifth Third Bank customer for over 10 years. I've had savings, credit card, HSA, and checking accounts during this time. Yesterday, my paycheck was deposited and the first $100 cleared, as it normally would. I went about my business, put gas in my car, got some groceries, etc. I woke this morning to find a negative balance. I called the home office and was informed that Fifth Third has decided to hold my ENTIRE paycheck for over 10 days. The reason they cited was overdraft history, and I haven't had an overdraft in months. My previous overdraft incurred a fee that Fifth Third agreed to reverse, due to a double charge from my car payment billing system (an error on the lender's end, not Fifth Third's).
Although the rep I spoke to today was a very sweet person, and I know she wanted to do her best to assist me, I was informed by her that I couldn't speak to any management, and that nobody in the company could do ANYTHING to assist me. Some of us have student loans, rent, bills, and cannot AFFORD to go over a WEEK without our paycheck. It's dehumanizing to work hard for two weeks, and when it's time to collect your paycheck, have your bank essentially hold it ransom, and refuse to help you and refuse to empathize with your situation. I cannot pay my car, my rent, or get food for a week all because Fifth Third has decided to teach me some sort of lesson regarding my banking relationship with them.
I've worked in customer service roles for over 10 years, from insurance to retail and beyond, and I've never been in a situation where I had to tell someone we could absolutely not even let them speak to a member of management, or higher-up in a company, to discuss a solution of ANY kind. I was NOT notified that this was going to occur prior to my money being taken and held. I was not given a call. This is my living, my paycheck. This is not a pawn for this bank to barter with. A letter was mailed out AFTER I called to complain this morning (it miraculously showed up in my online account, dated today, after my telephone call with their rep ended).
I will be pulling all of my business from this bank. I hate to, because I love supporting local companies in Cincinnati, and wished to continue what USED to be an easy, carefree banking experience. This wasn't my first unhappy experience with them lately, but I chose to stick it out, because they had previously been so good to me. I am so extremely disappointed in this company, and feel failed on a basic human level, as I cannot function for a week as I normally would without a large degree of financial difficulty. For those of you with tight financial situations, especially students and young adults, I would NOT recommend this bank. You can do better to protect yourself and your assets.

How could you not want someone's money???) of getting authorized to send an e-check (e-check??? Went through the whole long, arduous, phone call process a second time to submit a payment - another e-check and second time they asked to link my bank to theirs? Um, no! - and finally, 2 weeks from start to finish, got it through. Customer service and account security handling is horrible, full social security numbers are asked for several times in one phone call, multiple steps required to get to a service rep, no way to handle outside payments through their website. I was attempting to use my debit card to pay for over $200 in groceries when I found out that I couldn't access my accounts. (I have $8,000.00+ in my accounts.) I called the bank only to find out that the fraud dept. works "banker's hours" and that I would have to call back the following day.
When I finally got hold of a human, I was told that the accounts were frozen because of a "suspicious" DEPOSIT I had made 4 days prior. (There was NOTHING at all wrong with the deposit. It was simply a deposit to transfer money from an account I have with a different bank (Chase Bank)...an account I opened after the PREVIOUS Fifth Third Bank fiasco!!!)
The only way I could regain access to MY MONEY (not theirs) was to drive 50 miles to the nearest 5/3 branch to show a copy of my Chase Bank statement to prove I had the funds in that bank to cover the deposit. (Ironically, the Chase Bank statement showed that my deposit to Fifth Third had already CLEARED and that I had a remaining balance of over $3000.)
You know, if I thought the "fraud alert" was meant in any way to protect ME, I might understand. Or, if a "hold" was placed on that particular deposit, I might understand. Or, if they had bothered to notify me (email, text, phone call, freaking smoke signals... ANY type of notification) and question me about it, I might understand. Instead, when I asked why I wasn't notified, I was told that I "should get a letter in the mail in 5-7 business days." A FREAKING LETTER? In 5-7 business days after freezing ALL of my accounts??? Minutes after the instant pay went through I decided to check the balance on my checking account and I was not surprised to see instead of having a balance of $257.06 (16.90 + 240.16), it was 237.04. One hour later I checked my account again and notices a new balanced of $232.14.
Keep in mind that I didn't not any one else swiped my card on any additional transaction sine the instant pay from Uber. So, now 5/3 bank stole $24.90 from my account. I had this happened in the past and spoke to one representative and one supervisor. Their answer was "any transaction that happened over the weekend will be posted on Tuesday". I asked why? The supervisor and the rep told me that all the over the weekend transactions will be processed on Monday night.
I do not have overdraft protection on my account which means if I don't have enough money to make a purchase the transaction will be declined, therefore the $16.90 that I had available has nothing to so with pending transactions because every you swipe for a purchase they withdrawal the amount immediately from total available balance. I have to remember to go in and ask for credit card statements. Turnover is high at Dupont/Coldwater branch in Ft. Wayne, the new girl does not know me/him and tells me he has to come in to pick up the statement himself. He stays at our Ohio house during the week.
There is no 5/3 for 30 miles from that house. She offers to give me a balance, like I cannot call that in myself. Rude, they kept me waiting for about 15 minutes while they all chatted to begin with. Only ONE person (Stephanie) has been there long term and recognizes regular customers... You CANNOT GET treated like a VALUED CUSTOMER if COMPANY CANNOT RETAIN EMPLOYEES.

I don't know what has happened to Fifth Third Bank, but their customer service is terrible. They closed one branch in Lincolnton, leaving only one. The lines to the teller windows are backed up and there is usually only one teller trying to handle 3 lanes of traffic. When I called today I got put on hold for 20 minutes twice before I hung up; third time no one answered and I got transferred to an account center, which informed me the wait time was between 18 and 23 minutes. That is ridiculous. I have banked with this company for 20 years, when it was Lincoln Bank but I am ready to move to a bank where I can reach someone if I have a question.

Fifth Third has been playing games and switching me all over the place to different depts and I had my home mortgage sold to them without my knowledge and I pay all my prop taxes and insurance directly to policy and county taxes - they’ve tried to put a FORCED ESCROW on an act that has a ZERO escrow balance and I pre-paid taxes and they put my house payment in unapplied funds for weeks and call them at least 2-3 x week and diff “managers” promise to get it fixed then run around every month and I am on disability and they are trying to force me and daughter out of home by increasing home payment by over $400 MONTH when I DONT HAVE ESCROW!!! I’ve paid multiple fees and charges and promises to fix my account go around in circles and I was hospitalized from the stress of them playing the games with my money and home!!
I am now in the “president's account review” and they don’t return calls or do anything to help and then come up with fake fees and try to keep escrow account when I have more paid tax and insurance for OVER A YEAR!! This is the WORST experience I’ve ever had with a bank and never would do business with them if not for my interest rate from refi they bought. I am filing federal charges for discrimination and fraud with my payments sitting there and never getting the promises to fix THEIR errors fixed. I’ve hired an Atty and will have to spend money on that to go after them for predatory lending practices and try to force a disabled single mom out so they can take my home!!!
Horrible customer service and no resolution. Just bait and switch and have spent 4 months now going into 5 months dealing with them!! I am beyond disgusted at how they treat their customers and our money being played with and not applied for weeks and new false charges after I’ve paid them too much and the taxes and insurance already paid. I will never recommend this company and am still fighting them every month and they say they see the issues and are fixing them and then no action or response. Absolutely the worst mortgage company I’ve ever dealt with and continue to fight them monthly to get it fixed!!!

I pay into a mortgage escrow acct for 5/3rd to pay my mortgage insurance. 5/3 changed the billing address for insurance bills to be submitted without advising all the insurance companies. I happened to call my insurance company purely by chance the day before they were going to cancel my homeowner's policy to find out the payment was never made. I had to pay $220 to keep my policy active and after numerous calls and being on hold for extended periods of time, having advised my insurance company of 5/3rd's new billing address and having emailed the insurance bill with the new rate, 5/3rd then makes a payment that is short $86 in the amount of the previous year's policy.
So, now I will not get a full refund of the $220 I had to pay in to keep the policy active. I know I am not the only customer this happened to and if I had not called, I would have had zero insurance coverage on my home and never been notified as 5/3rd never updated my mailing address from the old address (which no longer exists) and the cancellation notice can only be mailed. I am beyond frustrated with 5/3rd and will be looking to move to another bank as soon as this is resolved.

Avoid using Fifth Third Bank credit cards! I paid off a small balance in June. After that, a small finance charge of $1.16 was applied to my account. I never received any statements online or mail. I also never received a call that I had a payment due. They reported my credit to all three credit bureaus over $1.16! I called customer service and this "manager" was extremely arrogant and rude. She said that I definitely DID receive a statement (as if she has access to my email). I asked to speak to her supervisor and she refused to transfer me, and stated she was the highest person I can deal with. Also, their online banking does not offer an option for auto pay. I never had a bank that did not offer that option. I repeat. Do NOT use this company. This is the way they will treat you!

When I went into the branch the teller told me that only the first $100 would available right away and the remaining funds would be available the next day. The following day I went to try to withdraw some funds from the account. I was told there are insufficient funds. When I called customer service they told me a 14 day hold was put on my paycheck. Without giving me any particular reason why. I’m wondering if anyone else experienced a similar situation with Fifth Third? If so what needed to be done to get it resolved?

Without going into lengthy detail about my business account, personal account and mortgage experience, these are the need to knows: 1). The main branch telephone is mostly answered by a remote calling center, if at all. 2). The local branch rarely answers the telephone and does not respond to left messages. Email communications are only sometimes answered. 3). Important communication between the branches and main office are done by e-chat and not by telephone. Therefore, visits to the local branch are mostly ineffective when it comes to problem solving. 4). There are plenty of hidden fees and costs.
5). The online banking experience is an absolute disaster and often non-functional. This is impossible to rectify because of the impossibility of getting an efficient telephone response, even though an 800 number is given as a prompt. I went to the local branch to try to get back into all paper and I was told it could not be done. Therefore, any extra payments I wish to make must be done in person at a branch. 6). After incredible angst and frustration, it was explained to me that if I had a minimum of $100,000 on deposit, I would be better treated. 7). I have closed down as much as I possibly can, but I was not “allowed” to close down automatic payments from a 5/3 checking account that I no longer wish to have and switch to paper statements for payment. In closing, be prepared for all of the above if choosing Fifth Third.

By May 2017, the Fifth Third Bank bought my mortgage from a different institution. In the middle of the month of June, 2017, I called the bank to see how I could send my monthly payment for two months ahead. They gave me the instructions to follow and I sent two separate checks. The bank gave me credit for just one of the payments, not the for the second payment. I spent more than 15 hours on the phone and at one of the local branch trying to find out what happen to my second mortgage payment.
Finally I was told me that at the time they got the checks, the monthly mortgage payment was more than what I normally paid. To pay for a month, they used part of the money of the second check. But what happen with the remaining $800.00 I sent in? - They said they sent the money back to me. When I told them that I never receive that money, they changed their story. They said the money was paid against my principal. I asked for evidence, since that none of the statements showed any activity in that effect. They promised me an investigation. Today is November 2, 2018 and I am still waiting to hear from them.

I have been with Fifth Third (5/3) Bank for 4.5 years and have a very negative experience since day 1. (I wrote this review while I was on hold, trying to reach customer service). They make expensive mistakes ($1,200) - We got our mortgage from Fifth Third Bank when we bought our house. In our negotiation, the sellers were to cover $5,000 of closing costs. Just before loan closure, I got a call from the senior mortgage officer telling me that he wasn't sure that the $5,000 would be enough and he thought I should agree to increase my interest rate to cover the difference. If that was done, the difference would be less than $5,000 dollars. He assured me that I would be given the difference (I specifically asked). However, the remaining $1,200 dollars was refunded to the sellers.
Don't complete work in a timely manner - We signed a contract for our house ~2 months before closing. We had been pre-approved and all documents were submitted in a timely manner. Fifth Third Bank demonstrated very poor service in completing the documents on their end. They were barely able to get the paperwork complete to wire the money for closing on our close date.
Unable to add spouse- Fifth Third Bank would not give my wife access to account. Multiple phone calls were made to add her to the account and I was assured that she would be added. Eventually I was told that I would have to go to the branch to fill out the appropriate paperwork. I went in on two occasions and filled out the paperwork, but they still wouldn't give her any information - not even a balance over the phone. Unexpected fees - We tried to use our account as little as possible because of the fees and hassles of working with them. Despite rarely using checks, they would still periodically send us books of checks that we never asked for and bill us for them.
Difficulty getting through - We recently sold our house. We were so excited to finally close our account with Fifth Third Bank. As soon as they deposited our money we transferred it to an institution we trust. Weeks later they still haven't closed the account and they just charged us the monthly fee for the checking account that we don't use, that put us into overdraft. *This they actually just reversed over the phone when I asked to speak with a supervisor. I was on hold for ~20 minutes before the call was answered by customer service. She wanted to transfer me and told me to expect to be on hold for 11 more minutes. I wasn't too happy about that. In conclusion, we are so happy to finally have this account closed. We have had a very negative experience with Fifth Third Bank. I cannot recommend that anyone go to them for a mortgage or for an account.

I am kicking myself for not trusting the reviews I read before opening an account with this bank. I opened my account 9/8/18 and on 10/23/19 my account has been hacked and put into the negative. I immediately called customer service and sat on hold for about 10-15 waiting for someone to answer. Mind you it was 6:30am. What nonsense could possibly going on that early in the morning where I had to sit on hold. So after waiting a rep answers and I explain the situation. He then says, “Oh let me transfer you to disputes,” where I sat on hold again for another 10mins. Finally I get a rep and explain there are charges on my account that I didn’t do. She puts me on hold to review the account. She comes back and asks for account info to verify my identity.
I give her the info and she puts me on hold again. She comes back and asks where is the card and did anyone have access to the card. I answered no and then she put me on hold again. When she comes back for the last time she tells me my card has to be closed and a new one will be sent out in 5-7 days. And as far as my account they will not issue a credit. I have to wait 2-4 days to see if the pre authorizations fall off and until then they can’t do anything so that leaves me with no money. I explained that to her and the rep sounded like a broken robot on repeat. All she kept saying, “By law we can’t do anything.”
What’s even more crazy is my check will be direct deposited today and once it covers the negative balance all I will have is 10 dollars!!! I’m expected to live off that until this bank decides to credit my account for fraudulent charges. I am so disgusted and mad. I have never had a bank account hacked and what’s even more appalling is this may be a common thing with this bank. You would think they would attempt to find where the security breach is happening. All I can say is DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH THIS BANK!!! Your money is at risk by hackers and the bank will do nothing to help its customers!!!

To begin, I have been with 5/3 for almost an entire year. I should have ran as soon as I opened my account. When I opened my account early 2018, I was told that I would be receiving a debit card in the mail so they gave me a temporary card until my actual debit card arrived at my home (2 months later). The first temporary card I received was hacked into within the first two weeks of having it. Contacted the fraud department and they had to cancel that card, which still had money on it that they didn't transfer back to my actual checking account so that money is still sitting there and I have no way to retrieve it. Anyways, after the first fraud happened it took 12 business days for the money to be refunded to my account.
I then received another temporary card because my debit card still has yet to arrive in the mail. I went into my local branch, Augusta, GA, and they stated that they weren't sure where it went so that is when I received my second temporary card and they canceled the first debit card and resent another. After waiting two full months, I finally received my debit card.
I started noticing CRAZY overdraft fees, yet there was money in my account. This has happened multiple times and I work too hard for the money I make so I don't appreciate being charged for this I didn't do. The pattern I noticed is that, I'll make a debit purchase on a Monday, but it won't post for almost 5 days, and the last transaction will overdraft my account. I have NEVER had a bank take that long to process a transaction. But, when I look at my account it says there are funds available. It is overall so frustrating.
So on to the most recent problem. I noticed about 3 weeks ago, that there were two charges that I did not making equaling out to about $16.00 and with that it accrued a $74.00 overdraft charge. I contacted the fraud department again and stated that I didn't accrue these charges. The rep stated that he would have the funds transferred back with no issue. I was traveling all the way back home to CA so I needed that money for travel purposes. I called back a few days later and asked what happened because no money had been refunded. I got transferred to the fraud department again and the rep stated that there wasn't even any notes in the account.
I informed him AGAIN of what happened and what the previous rep told me. He stated that I would have to cancel my card to open the fraud case and was 7-10 business days to have the money put back into my account. I stated that I couldn't cut it off because I started my travel in a few days and there are no 5/3s in CA where I was going so I needed that money for travel. He stated that there was nothing he could do. I am FED UP with this bank and all the frustration and anxiety it has caused me.
And lastly, there are a few times that I overdrafted on purpose because this unexpectedly happen. The first time was $100.00, but every time after that, two other times, it went down to $40.00. They stated it was based off of my "relationship" with my bank. I have direct deposit. They have ALWAYS received their money back from me with no issues. This bank is outrageous. From the customer service, to the fraud department and fraud issues, to the card issues, to the overdraft fees. DO NOT BANK HERE. YOU WILL INSTANTLY REGRET IT AND GIVE YOURSELF NOTHING BUT A HEADACHE!!!

Contact your state attorney general to complain about Fifth Third charging undisclosed fees for web-initiated bank transfers, which violates the Truth In Savings Act. Truly, they are outrageously greedy in just helping themselves to your hard-earned money for services that are FREE at other reputable financial institutions. While most banks charge nothing for transferring money via ACH, Fifth Third charges $3 without any notice or warning, and it's still just standard slow 3 day ACH, not the faster variety.
Only one week from opening my account and making my initial deposit, they eagerly gobbled up that chunk of my money for doing next to nothing. Try to find that fee listed anywhere in their printed materials or on their website... You can't because it's not there... I went through it all with a fine-toothed comb. While most banks waive monthly maintenance fees if you maintain an AVERAGE minimum monthly balance, Fifth Third does no averaging so they can help themselves to your money if you dip even $0.01 below the minimum for even ONE DAY. Crooked to the core. Don't give them your business!

FIFTH THIRD OVERDRAFT FEES. This review pertains to my opinion that Fifth Third’s practices systematic generation of overdraft fees (to my checking account). Overdraft fees that are already excessively high. To begin… I have had two checking accounts with 5/3 since 2013. I now have one… (at least for another few days). My complaint? I believe 5/3 systematically structures credits/withdrawals into my checking account to allow overdrafts to occur. Here’s what they do. Let’s say that I have $0 in my account on one particular day, and that same day, I schedule a $50 cash transfer into my account (from a large financial institution). This $50 will be needed to cover two scheduled payments from checking account. One payment is for $40 and will take place two days later. And one payment is for $10 and will take place three days later.
But two days later, the $50 deposit I made, won’t have been credited to my checking account but the scheduled $40 withdrawal will have occurred, This causes my account to become overdrawn by $37. My account is now (-$27.) To compound matters, the next day, when the $10 scheduled payment occurs, my account will become overdrawn AGAIN, because it's already under by $27. So now my account is under by $74. I could go on and on, but between my two 5/3 checking accounts, I venture to guess that 5/3 charged that account in excess of $10,000 in overdraft fees in the past several years I had this account.
NOTE: I have a retirement account with 5/3 that I would have thought would compelled this institution to not cook one of their golden geese. But no… Am I missing something? Shouldn’t electronic transfers (especially if the two monetary institutions are BOTH 5/3… be an immediate transfer of funds?? And there doesn’t seem to be a hard line “rhyme or reason” as how 5/3 structures the credits or withdrawals into my account… at least not one spelled out in writing that I’ve seen… or one I'm told by one of the many 5/3 personnel I have complained to about this. I used to bank with JPM and thought they were white collar criminals. But 5/3 seems to have taken JPM’s contemptuous ways, and raised the bar.
How many people in this country (like myself) do, or have banked with 5/3, that live paycheck to paycheck… have had 5/3 make their life a virtual living hell by creating these overdrafts? These overdrafts which serve to sink this person’s finances into an utter quicksand of obligated debt. I believe we will soon be going into another very major financial storm, that once again, has been created by these Sociopathic “Wolf Of Wall Street” icons, including the 5/3 Executives. This time, my hope is that some of these people legitimately be made to pay the piper. PEACE :-)

Meanwhile, my account gets frozen and they say they will send a new debit card in 7-10 days. What??? I cannot wait that long to be able to function.
Now with the issue yesterday, when they froze my account, they also locked access to my online accounts, which leads me to believe that they actually had a security breach to their online banking! I am normally the kind of person that will only ever leave reviews if it's good, based on a positive experience I've had with the company. It is rare for me to ever take the time out of my day to say anything bad about a company, however that being said 53rd Bank has gone above and beyond my limit for terrible and I must get the word out for others to know what I've endured so that at ALL COSTS you avoid this bank.
1st failure. A few months after I took out my loan 53rd double charged my payment for a total of $700+ dollars. When I contacted them to undo THEIR mistake they said there was nothing they could do to reverse this immediately and that I would have to wait 10-20 business days to get my money back. As I had other bills and expenses due this was unacceptable. I contacted my bank and had them fix the problem, which was resolved on the same day. Thank you Redstone FCU.
After this because they are whiny little children that cry and scream then poop their diapers if they don't get their way, locked my bank from being able to make payments online OR over the phone. In fact the ONLY way I was able to pay them was to setup an entirely new banking account at a DIFFERENT bank OR by making an official money order that cost me $15-25 every time I did it. This made me furious as this entire issue was caused by THEIR negligence and failure as a company. Pathetic. This problem lasted for nearly a year of me raising hell before they finally fixed the problem. Oh I'd also like to include they charged me late fees as well for the money orders not reaching them when they wanted, even though the post office reported the mail delivered 53rd would regularly "lose" the mail or "forget it in the mail room and not deliver it to accounting."
2nd failure. Last July I was hit by a drunk driver, (I was working for the post office at this time.) which caused a total loss of my vehicle and the loss of my job since it was reliant on my vehicle. During the three months I have undergone therapy and been unable to work due to injuries 53rd, even knowing about the situation with the policy report and medical paperwork to PROVE the situation completely refused to work with me on payments AT ALL, and continued to charge me regularly with late fees and damaging my credit. Stay away from this bank. They are horrible, heartless, greedy, irresponsible fools unwilling to take responsibility for their own failures and constantly blame their mistakes on others. DO NOT USE THEM FOR ANYTHING. The hungry jaws of hell eagerly await this company.

The account that I held with Fifth Third was held in the year 2008/2009. I have not received any attempted contact from Fifth Third regarding this amount, and I was even contacted by a Class Action lawsuit AGAINST Fifth Third specifically for Illegal Overdraft practices. This company has zero class, and will apparently sue a former customer 10 years after the fact without any attempt to reach the customer in the dispute to resolve. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY BANKING OR FINANCING. They represent every that is wrong in the banking industry.

Our mortgage was held by different banks over the years but has been recently sold to the Fifth Third Bank. It's the WORST!!! With other banks, I would be able to set up an automatic electronic payment of my monthly mortgage amount from my bank account. Not with this one - they only allow electronic payments if you open a checking account with them. Who does this? So every month, I have to send an envelope with a check, and sometimes, the person opening these envelopes does not get to open mine on time, and I get assessed a late fee (and I always send my payment at least 5 days before the due date!). I think it's a scam that allows them to make extra money by claiming that the payment was late.

Fifth Third Bank does not honor contract dates. This bank should maybe process cheese because they do not know how to properly process a mortgage application. They caused me to miss my closing date because the processor called off sick for 3 days!!! This bank is clueless.

Fifth Third is unwilling to work with their customers when it comes to overdraft fees, even after you notice a negative balance and rectified it immediately. Fifth Third refused to remove this fee. Don't bank with 53!

OK, so here was my first encounter with Fifth Third Bank; I purchase a vehicle from my mechanic (great guy, honest, stand up fellow). Anyways, this vehicle has a title issued years ago with a lien on it, no big deal, call the bank it's drawn on and ask for a release (did it for another vehicle we had sold this summer ourselves, with another more reputable institution). Here is where the circus begins, I am transferred not once, but twice, after being left on hold for an ungodly amount of time (I remain kind and patient with the representatives however, they're only human). I am transferred a third time to an outside 3rd party. Odd, I think, why would this be? They can't help me out? Why? It is a simple and easy request.
I am now uneasy and leery of what is going to happen next. I am again forced through a phone tree that doesn't accommodate much and then am left waiting for more than 5 minutes for this company called "MyTitleSearch". After taking some info from me about the car, about myself, they want to charge me $30USD for a lien release which should be free. I pay the fee because I am not about to transfer someone's lien into my name. Pity this bank hires a third party to scavenge off of people to get monies for a service that most reputable banks provide for free.
