I wanted to pay off my card so I sent a check via my bank and accidentally paid online as well for $12k. They could not reverse the transaction when I called the next day and said it would be 7-10 days to review the refund. When I called 14 days later, they said it was in process and could take another 3-5 business days to be credited back. I spoke to a supervisor and they said they would escalate. The next day I called again to get a response and they said it would take another 3-5 business days. Imagine not having access to $12k for such a long time. They take my payment immediately but it takes weeks to get my money back while my credit card is showing the credited balance. I’m so unhappy with this service and they are just telling me to wait. I have been a cardholder for a long time and want to end the relationship because of this experience.

I recently signed up for the Best Buy Citi Visa card, but unfortunately, my experience with the card company has been a nightmare from the start. As soon as I tried to register my new card online, I encountered a "fraud error" message. Naturally, I called customer service to resolve the issue, but what followed was an exercise in frustration and poor service. The first hurdle came when the representative informed me that my phone number wasn't recognized in their system, despite me providing all the correct information. I tried to provide everything I had—my full name, address, SSN, date of birth, the date I opened the card, and even the details of my first purchase—but none of it was enough to help them verify my identity. To make matters worse, I was told that because I had changed my phone number, they couldn't assist me in any way. Instead, I was told I had to wait for a letter to arrive at my address to verify my account.
It was at this point that I realized just how much of a hassle this was going to be, and my mind went back to the last time I had dealt with Citi: in 2008, when they arbitrarily raised interest rates just for the sake of profit. Back then, I swore I would never deal with them again, and apparently, I hadn't learned my lesson. This time, I regretted my decision even more. Had I known what a pain this would be, I should’ve just bought my e-bike with my AMEX card instead. At least then, I would have had a much smoother and less frustrating experience.
In short, I would strongly advise anyone considering this card to stay far away. The customer service is ineffective, the process is unnecessarily complicated, and the company doesn't seem to have its act together. Do yourself a favor—choose a credit card company that respects you enough to provide better service. Stay away from Citi and their Best Buy Visa card.

I have been a card holder for 40 years. I have made purchases from this one company for over 15 years. Recently, I was flagged for fraud. After calling the fraud department or an individual who could hardly speak English, ask me a handful of questions to confirm the identity of the card including my email, my mother's maiden name, and my phone number she told me she couldn't confirm that I was a cardholder. She then told me she was going to put a fraud hold on the card for somewhere between 1 to 2 weeks till I get some letter in the mail that by the grace of God may come by postal service within a month.
What's wrong with this customer service. It's disgusting. If this individual could speak English and understand and listen to what I was saying this could have been cleared up but this is not the first time this has happened. If you have a subscription that you were trying to cancel on having a hard time. They will ask you up to seven times to keep sending validation emails and any other evidence you have to back up your claim. This is stupid and a waste of time.

I have 2 credit cards through Citi. Both are decent credit limits, well were... Because I had made a couple bad purchases last year I ended up hitting a max on both for a short while. I paid more than the minimum payment by at least the interest for that month or more every payment on time. Then when I received my bonus for the year plus my taxes made paid over 7500.00 between the 2 cards to help get my available credit back in decent shape. Then not even 3 weeks after making those payment they drop both my credit limits. I've been a loyal customer always paid on time payments since opening these cards, always paying more than the minimum, and this is how they treat their customers? They can kiss my **, once these are paid off completely I'm done with citi and will never recommend anyone to them.

On July 15, 2024, I received (only me, not my husband) an unsolicited new credit card from Citibank Advantage Gold Card MC -- it would not have expired for another 6 months. That seemed odd to get one card, so I called (888-766-2484, spoke with "**") and was told that someone had called Citibank (definitely not me or my husband) and asked for a new card to be mailed. Charlie said only one card was sent to our address, no other addresses. "No problem," Citibank said, "OK to continue to use your card." Big mistake! We received a fraud alert on 11/19/24 from Citibank (888-766-2428) re several charges in DC and Maryland totaling over $1K. A $900 charge to Target was denied before it went through. We did not make or authorize any of those charges. We assured Citibank (multiple times) that both our cards have always been in our possession. At that point, Citibank said they would "investigate"and remove the charges.
Since then, the fraudulent charges in question have been removed and then reversed several times. We have called and spoken to at least 13 different Citibank representatives between July 2024 and Feb 2025. On 12/10/24 a Citibank rep named "Mia" finally admitted that Citibank had sent a credit card in my name to ** in Chevy Chase, Maryland back in JULY 2024! Many calls were made in between these times. We last spoke with Citibank (**, Security Supervisor - 866-442-7479) on 2/11/25. She was appalled about how this has been handled, and assured us that the remaining charge would be removed "immediately." Citibank Security Services keeps claiming to "investigate;" but, to this date, a $794.98 charge from Best Buy in Washington, DC remains on our bill.
Citibank never should have sent a card in my name with our account number to Maryland in the first place. We live in California! And no one ever told me that happened for over 5 months. Clearly, that is how unauthorized charges using our card were made in DC and Maryland back in November. Nevertheless, Citibank has not yet removed the final fraudulent charge to Best Buy, and $794.98 is still on our bill after 4 months of diligently reaching out to many, many Citibank reps in an attempt to resolve these obviously fraudulent charges. Citibank definitely needs to review their security systems. We have been loyal customers since 1994. Although we have been sent new cards with new account numbers, we have lost confidence in Citibank and do not intend to remain customers.

Sorry, I need to type in all caps because I'm really frustrated. They closed my business credit card account last nov, 2024 after I paid my almost entire balance (leaving $47.47 bal.), & I found that when I'm trying to use it & got declined. I called & they told me that even though I been I good customer (as I been paying my balance at least twice a month, hoping for credit increase) my account was closed due to decline of my personal credit.
I have a $611.27 rewards on my card, & twice they told me (dec, 2024 & jan, 2025) that I'll be getting the rewards on 1st week feb, 2025 but didn't recived it and called today to follow-up. But today they're telling me that my rewards are now forfeited and I will receive it anymore because my account was closed per their policy. I tried twice & spoke to two supervisors (last is Lisa with id# **). My frustration really gone up as I tried to settle my balance that went up to $132.46 due to late charges even though my account was closed, all I asked is to waive the fees (one fee got waived last jan, reason they can do anymore) and I'll pay the original balance of $47.47 (initially I asked to offset the balance with the rewards that they owe me, but they won't budge). Lisa said that even though she understand my points, the system won't allow them to do it and there's no one can do it.
For me this is very unethical business practice and should be corrected, how come no one can override the system even though this a clear unfair to a customer like me. Hope this complaint reach someone in citi managment to fix this bad system. Btw, all reps are so nice except for the 1st lady I spoke on that department, you can review all the conversations to verify this.
Today's date is march 19, 2025, my first call with them is at 1:43 pm (took 51 mins), then I got transferred to costco (1-866-455-1826) that may be they can help me get my rewards he said (spent 10 mins) but got transferred back to citi visa because she said it's citi's obligation to give me the rewards not them. Then I called back citi visa (1-855-378-6468) again at 2:50 pm (spent an hour, spoke to two person first before you talk to a supervisor) to tell that but get the same results, the last person I spoke was Lisa (a supervisor with id# **), & I told her that I'm going to post this complaint (so she knows who I am) and hope it get corrected somehow by people who can.

Not paying your balance in full for 2 consecutive months results in interest charges for the full amount, not only the balance remaining. This is a somewhat new practice, and I don’t know how it is legal, but CITI card does it. That being said, if you do pay your balance in full, every single month, the credit card is worth it, since you get 2% across the board.

I had a secured Citi credit card, but I ran into some life struggles, and my card bill exceeded my financial means at the time. The account then closed, which was understandable. The balance was sent to collections, and I accepted that as well. I paid off the collection agency and requested a letter from Citi to confirm that the account is closed. They told me I would receive it within 7-10 business days. However, 25 days later, I still haven't received the letter! They are now saying that there is an issue with their letter printing system. What would Jesus do? Because I CAN'T TAKE IT!

I have had a credit card with Citi for several years and made each monthly payment on-time. Last month I had to charge $1500 on a credit card that was not Citi. Because of this charge Citi lowered my credit limit from $5000 to $2000. My balance was $1550 so this left me with available credit of $50. I even have my payments set up on auto pay. That's the way they treat their good customers!

If this has happened to you need to contact the better Business bureau and report them because they costed me 75 points on TransUnion because of a late $28 fee. Several months later they blocked my account again after canceling my automatic payments once again and now blocked my account and I need to wait for a letter in the mail to verify my account supposedly. No supervisors are accessible and husband and wife keep transferring each other two phone calls.

I have encountered several major flaws with the Citi Costco credit card. One of the biggest issues is their payment processing system. Even after making a payment, seeing the funds leave your financial institution, and having the transaction marked as completed, Citi may take up to 14 days to update your available credit. This means that even though your balance is technically paid off, you won’t have access to your credit line for an extended period. For individuals and businesses that rely on timely payment processing, this delay can be extremely frustrating and disruptive.
If you need a credit card that provides quick and efficient payment processing, I strongly discourage choosing the Citi Costco card. This delay could leave you without access to necessary funds, potentially impacting your ability to make purchases or meet financial deadlines. Citi does not seem to prioritize the customer’s best interest, and if you rely on their system for urgent transactions, you may find yourself in a difficult situation. For those who need reliable and responsive credit availability, this card is not the right choice.

Previously, I have been able to log on to the app using Face ID with zero issues. A couple of days ago, I tried to sign in with Face ID, just as I always have, and got a message saying “Access Blocked” with reference # ** & below were two customer service #s. So, I called the one specifically for credit cards. I’m not even exaggerating when I say that I’ve talked to six different people and have been transferred to multiple different departments. The first time I called, which was on Thursday, got transferred twice. The third person I talked to said that he would submit some kind of form or request. He told me this would resolve the issue; however, it would take 24 hours to resolve. The whole process took a little over a half hour, which is pretty standard.
I log in the next day, and I still get the exact same error message; didn’t have the patience or the time to interact with customer service. I tried logging again today, same exact thing. So, I call customer service AGAIN. I got transferred about two more times, and on the last person, they told me that they would give me a call back. Several minutes have gone by and I have not received a call. I call them back, explaining my situation. They said the number I called was for fraud, and that I needed to be transferred to a different department, and that because that department was experiencing a high volume of calls, it might be a longer wait. I asked the representative if I could just cancel my account altogether. I was put on hold, and then finally told that there was no one available to cancel my card but that she “tried”. So now, I’ll have to go up to the bank in person on Monday to do it personally, even though I really don’t have the time. Absolutely ridiculous.

They also will put you on hold for long periods of time, pretending to connect you to "managers" and will hang up in your face, if they have no answer for your question! Citi is systematically destroying my credit score. I have 4 cards that they hold. None are late, most had fairly high credit availability. I make big payments, small payments...it doesn’t matter. They keep reducing my available credit and have closed 2 accounts without reason or warning. One card went from $18k to $400 over multiple reductions. My credit tanked as a result. Each reduction made it look like I was using a high amount of credit even as I was paying down.

Terrible card company that would much rather cut corners by having overseas agents who are rude and ultimately read a script. Extra charges for everything under the sun. Every few months they would claim a payment was declined by my bank even though my bank advised them every single time that the funds were available and the bank had no reason to disrupt the payment going through and attempt to charge me an additional $41.00. When I called Citi to explain, that treated me like some kind of criminal! Wanting to call my bank like I need to lie about if my funds were available or not! Then when they realize that it was no fault of my bank, they can never get on the same page regarding when the charge will be removed. Terrible card company. CITI Diamond Preferred card - the only credit card that I have ever had that started charging interest on purchases from the date of purchase. There is no way to know what your total statement "payoff" if credit card is used for purchases and no way to avoid interest charges. I paid over the minimum payment on previous statement (Nov) which was for balance transfers only, plus the total of purchases made that month (Dec) before the December statement date that those purchases show on and was charged interest for the purchases on the December statement.
Before December, there was nothing else on the card besides balance transfers that are 0% interest into the middle of the next year. I chatted with a CITI representative and found that unlike all credit cards I have ever had, interest starts the date of purchase rather than after the statement's payment due date if not paid in full. Corrupt to charge interest before even receiving the statement for the purchases! There is no way to know what your total statement "payoff" is and no way to avoid paying interest. We added a new bank account to our profile to make a payment, and the payment was rejected because there was an issue with the name on the new bank account. We had over $500 in rewards, and just a few weeks before we were supposed to receive those rewards (which we can only collect once per year) they canceled our card with no warning. At first, we thought there was a fraud issue. Citi said we had to wait for a letter they send (which took over a week to receive) before they could give us any information. That letter said the reason was because we had "1 or more payments cancelled or rejected within the last 12 months". They wouldn't reinstate the card, even though it wasn't due to insufficient funds, and wouldn't honor the rewards we had built up, saying we forfeited it.

I have never been late on a payment or missed a payment and have always stayed under my limit. Their reduction of my credit limit has damaged my credit score twice, and now they just reduced my credit limit once again with another 'random review.' This time they reduced it so low that it now shows my card as being maxed out! The moment I close on my home next week, I'm canceling this card. I have five credit cards, and none of them have ever done this. Steer clear of this company if you value your credit scores.

CITI BANK CREDIT CARDS…What’s worse than the WORST especially when it comes to customer service, disputes and honesty? I have had disputes over merchandise once or twice in last ten plus years. American Express handled it well. Wells Fargo did also. CITI ignores me, lies to me and doesn’t give a darn. They claim they have sent me letters, paperwork to complete, etc. NEVER EVER RECEIVED COMMUNICATION FROMTHEM.,, BUT MY monthly bill is received promptly and always paid in full.
An item was erroneously ordered. Company would not cancel, so I spent additional money and returned it. Can’t get my money returned. I have CITI proof of their receiving package. Company ignores me.CITI IGNORES ME EVEN AFTER I SENT THEM PROOF of RETURN AND RECEIPT BY COMPANY. THEY TELL ME COMPANY IGNORES THEM, SO THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING, AT Least a DOZEN CALLS FROM ME TO CITI.. I GET NOTHING. THEY did tell me they HAVE to abide by VISA rules. So did Wells Fargo. Wells protected their customer….ME!
I want out so badly from citi. But I need to buy my food and gas at COSTCO, so I need to keep the card from this miserable, policy unfriendly, CITI…They got paid! The merchant got paid twice and this customer….me… is left dealing with Citi staff that does nothing but remain inept and let me rant! I’m sure that’s their training from the bank that doesn’t care about their customers. If you can get your credit cards from any other bank, do it. Wells Fargo is good and so is Bank of America.

I just got off a call with Citi "Customer Service", requesting an updated card with a new (further out) "Valid Thru" date. (I tried to use this card for an airline reservation in the middle of this year, beyond my current "Valid Thru" date. The web site had rejected my card.) After unsuccessfully trying their on-line ChatBot, I called the Customer Service number. I explained the situation with the Agent. She said that they send a replacement card about 1 month in advance of the Valid Thru date. I asked that the date on my current card be extended now, not later. She said they "don't do that".
I ask for a Supervisor, thinking that a Supervisor would have the ability to make the change. NOPE! I was informed that they send a replacement card about 1 month in advance of the Valid Thru date - sounds kinda the same! When I asked if he'd rather I use a competitor's card until my Citi card was updated, he said that he was in Customer Service and did not make Financial Decisions. So maybe I should just use the Competitor's card all the time??

I finally used it once, had a mistake on bill, they were not good at dealing with it and ignored my problem with the first time use. I closed this account because it was a terrible experience for my first time and last. They charged me 30 extra dollars when I paid full amount instead of the small amount. This should not even been charged but they lost my business charging me double of what I should of paid. Shame they want to be greedy. They won’t get another dollar. Just wanted to share my experience with Citi Citibank US. I initiated a chat convo on their app to ask if I could apply for a lower interest rate/hardship program for our credit card. Discover did this for us & lowered our interest rate for 1 year. Their website has a hardship program page with a link to apply online. After clicking the link several times & getting "authentication failed errors" I did the app chat. Over the course of 1 hour and 12 minutes I spoke with SIX different chat reps, explaining what I needed each and every time & answering their questions. I was told by 5 people that the hardship program was available, but that they weren't the correct person to speak with about it so a transfer was required.
I went through 6 different departments until I reached Christina with the escalations department. She then told me that there were no hardship programs available. I asked why not. She said she couldn't tell me. She then told me to "check back in 3 days to see if any were available then". I asked if hardship programs were only available certain months. Again she said she couldn't tell me. I ended the convo because I was so frustrated that it was just for the best.
Citi - you need to do better. Your chat reps are useless. Why did it take me 1 hour and 12 minutes to get a simple answer? Why couldn't a manager tell me why no program was available? Why did I need to speak with six different people? If you're thinking about getting a credit card - apply with Discover!!! They have been incredibly helpful with hardship programs and it took me literally 10 minutes to set it all up and it's been great for us. Avoid Citi at all cost!

I applied for a Citi card in August. I applied for 21 month no interest on new charges and 18 month no interest on transferred. In October, after having to pay for hit & run accident, I started receiving interest charges. I called to ask twice , why I was being charged interest and I was told both times that I needed to read the terms and conditions. Which I had. When I asked Citi to send me a copy of the contract that I agreed to, Citi refused and have still has not provided any documentation. The interest that Citi were billing is excessive and should not have been billed at all. This is just like a loan shark.
The customer service representative hung up on me during both calls. So I closed my account and paid in full (on time)and Citi then tried to charge even more interest, $92, to my account after the account was closed. This practice should be criminal. I would think very hard about using this credit card company. I have other cards and have never had these issues. I was just looking for a little relief from interest charges and Citi thought they could get for even more. However, Citi loses this time.
Also, their representatives can not speak English. All 3 have been very difficult to understand and will not transfer to someone that speaks an easy to understand English. I requested a final statement that the accounts is closed and paid in full. The representative told me they would text the statement and I don't believe they will because I'm still waiting for the last requested paper statement. I thought Citi has to legally provide a paper copy, if it was requested.

30 years down the drain! My family and I are currently traveling in Dubai and my account got picked up for a suspicious transaction. I was able to call customer service and verify my account and the transaction with agent #1 who proceeded to unlock my account. I then tried the transaction again only to see it was still locked. I called agent #2 who put me through a series of questions which I answered correctly only to tell me he couldn't validate me and had to send me a letter. What good would the letter do when I'm in another country. You tell me???
At this year, there's no other way to verify and help a customer than snail mail!!! I asked to speak to a supervisor. Supervisor #1 tried to do a phone call verification, however didn't want to call the phone on file but an alternate cell. So I gave her my husband's who was traveling with me, but his phone wouldn't take the call. Why?? Because we are in a foreign country! So she tells me there's nothing she can do. Did I mention this is my only source of funds and its locked although I used the app to say I recognize the transactions. She says see if a family member can get the letter at home. Ummm did I not say my entire family is traveling with me? Ask to speak to someone higher was told there's no one higher. I say there is. After a few minutes, I'm told a manager will call me. Next day. Yep next day no call.
I call back, agent #3, I just want to make a complaint. Transferred back to fraud dept. I go through the series of qs, cleared, only to be told sorry their hands are tied I gotta wait for the letter. Meanwhile I admit all this, ready to close the account, I paid it in full, they didn't block me paying them but blocked me using their card. Anyways, gave her info on the complaint but which she says she filed on my behalf. Can you email me a copy or provide the case #, sorry they can't. Huh??? I'm suppose to just take your word. She tells me the investigation unit is closed, call # in back of card. Do I do so, agent #4, again, series of questions and cleared, they are at least consistent in saying they can't help. But how does that help me??? I even say I'm stranded. They don't care. She raises a complaint. I asked for the case #, she puts me on hold and returns with a case #.

Recently, I applied and received a Citibank double cash card. Based on recent experience I will never do business with Citibank again and plan to report not only to Citibank but also CT's banking commissioner.
To simplify, the card terms which I received with the card indicate there is a balance transfer fee, standard 3%, and interest charges on purchases. What they don't state but they WILL DO is change "balance transfer" to "purchases" and thereby charge interest on the balance transfer although the agreement states 0% APR on balance transfers for 18 months. I expect Citibank to credit these fees and interest charges because they are not what was promised in writing. I will also close this card and never do business with Citibank again. I have a Citi Visa credit card because it was the card suggested by Costco. I have not had any issues for years until recently. About 1 year ago, I was going through some major medical issues which caused me to be in a bad state of mind and I was 30 days late on my Target card payment. I was never more than a few days late occasionally with my Citi or other cards. This was the first time in my life I was that late on any payments for anything. Citi saw my 30-day late payment to my Target card and dropped my credit limit from $12,500 to $500.00, a $12,000 penalty. I tried appealing with Citi, Target, and the BBB which did not matter to any of them, especially Citi. I was planning a work trip and wanted to use Costco Travel but I only had a $500.00 credit limit and the trip was over $1,000.00 so, I was not able to book it through Costco.
I called and asked for an increase which they brought up to only $1,000.00 which still did not cover the trip cost. I tried disputing these decisions and I was told by everyone at Citi that I spoke with, they are unable to help and I have to wait several months for another hopeful increase. I decided to send an email to the CEO of Citi, Jane Fraser sharing my frustrations with Citi. The next day, 11-25-24 I received a phone call from Cit executive office Tina who agreed with me the punishment was extremely harsh for never having bad credit or any late payments my entire life. She said she would send a request to have the decreased credit limit removed. Tina said I should have an answer in 3-days and she said she would call me before I got the response.
As of 12-08-24, I never received a call from Tina that she promised she would and I received a response saying they are not increasing my credit limit at this time and I'll have to wait at least 6 months before asking for another increase which will most likely be only another $500.00. The reviews with Google, Citi's site, and the BBB only partially reflect how unprofessional, non-compassionate, and unable to review cases in the total totality of the circumstances this company is. I hope as many people read this review throughout the world as can and do exactly what I'm doing, I'm checking into other credit cards that I can use at Costco and I'll be dropping this card as quickly as I can. Suite 910, Louisville, KY 40213. Delivered on Dec 2 at 2:20 in the afternoon and verified by USPS. It was signed for by one of Citi's employees.
I cannot even get anyone including the internet to provide a telephone number so I can find out whose desk my $26K+ is sitting on. Meanwhile I am being charged interest and late fees (which I've never paid late, ever). What are the hiring qualifications for these people and furthermore what exactly is the definition of "Express" Payments? Nothing express about this. I would love to know the process of this department as I was in banking for 27 years and never would something like this happen. This is a huge organization that should provide much better service than my issue and the others I am reading about. Much more disturbing is the ineptitude of the Customer Service employees that have no idea of the process. How can they be informative if they do not know how their company functions?

I got the Citi bank card hoping to get the $200 cash back promotional offer promised. I was locked out of my card immediately and wasn’t able to use it. I spoke with customer service 3 different times over the following months. They asked for my number to send a verification code but said it wouldn’t work because of the type of number and would need another number (which made no sense). I tried to give my mom’s number so she could give me the code but since she wasn’t with me they said they couldn’t do that. I basically gave up but finally decided to call again. This time, there was no problem sending my phone a text with the code in order to get into my account. Of course now it’s outside the 6 month period in which I could’ve gotten the $200 back.
I spoke with a supervisor to see if they can extend my time to spend the $1500 in order to get the cash back since my card only NOW started working. They said there was no way they could do that. Then kept repeating that since I didn’t spend that much money within that time that I couldn’t get the promotional offer, even though my first purchase I tried to make was that much money. They wouldn’t let me spend it. Feels like a scam.

I was rather disappointed at how Citi Card handled my case. I closed my accounts with them. I believe they just rathered take easy way out and just pin the payment dispute on me. Really dissatisfied they don't really fight for you or your rights especially where merchant contracts are involved.

I applied for the credit card and was approved; however, of course raggedy Citibank’s discount code did not work. I called Home Depot and they referred me to Citibank. Per the representative, Erica, there is a known issue with the code. I said that’s misleading and they need to disclose that you have to take additional steps to receive the applicable discount.
Erica was rude and tried to speak over me the entirety of our conversation. I advised her that I would like a manager, Debbie, got on the phone and she was no help at all. I will pay this card off and be done with Citibank. If I can sue them for misleading information please contact me. Now I have to remember to call back within 72 hours to request a discount. I ended up calling the Citi Customer service and they wanted my home line, They asked me where I worked, work number, And when I was not able to provide that information because I didn't have any they decide to send me a letter to my house to confirm that it is really me. I’m extremely disappointed with Citi Bank’s customer service, especially regarding my son’s recent experience while traveling with his Citi credit card. I had added him as an authorized user on my Mastercard for his trip, expecting seamless access to funds. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The issues began when he tried to pay for luggage with JetBlue, and the card was declined. He immediately contacted me, and I reached out to Citi customer service. The representative struggled with English and claimed the problem was an "incorrect address"—a puzzling response since no address is needed for a physical card transaction. At her request, I called my son on three-way to try the card again, and it was declined once more. She couldn’t resolve the issue, forcing my son to use his debit card, leaving him with barely enough funds.
When I asked to speak with a manager, I was reassured there was nothing wrong with the card and was told it would work for his car rental and hotel. However, once again, the card was declined at the car rental. Another call to Citi connected me to a “specialist,” who said he had “removed the declines” and that the card was “good to go.” Keeping him on the line, I asked my son to try the card again, but it failed. This time, the specialist became rude, seemingly irritated with the rental company’s pace.
This experience was incredibly frustrating and left my son stranded twice—first at the airport and then at the car rental—despite Citi being informed about his travel plans and the importance of having the card functioning. The lack of communication, inability to resolve issues, and dismissive attitude from the specialist are unacceptable. This entire ordeal was unnecessary, inconvenient, and frankly, embarrassing for both of us. Citi, this is not the standard of service we expect. I hope you address these communication and service issues for future customers.

I got a Citibank card for the airline miles. I set up autopay and went on with my life after a while. My card I had set up auto pay with was compromised, and the bank had to send me a new one. I continued to me manually. Make my payments on time every month until Citibank. Closed my account due to too many declined payments, even though I made my payments on time, I did not know how to remove the compromised card and every time their system tried to take a payment off of it. It was declined. They considered that declined payments and closed my account. I paid them in full and got a zero balance on the screen.
Fast forward a couple of months, and I received a bill for $2.80. I contacted them and was assured they would wipe it to 0, and I owed no more money. A couple of months later, I received another bill this time a dollar higher and they said you indeed owe the money and we will not wipe it out. I do not understand how this is possible. When I paid the card to zero I will not be getting another one of their cards.

I've had a Home Depot card for a couple of years now. Recently, I had to change banks because my bank closed several branches in my area, causing me to drive over 30 miles to the nearest branch. I opened accounts with another reputable bank locally and have been gradually switching all my payments to come out of those accounts without any issues. UNTIL I made my Home Depot credit card payment with the new account. The payment was made on the 21st of October and cleared my bank on the 22nd of October. Home Depot or Citi Bank (I'm not sure which one) has withheld the payment from my available credit for over 10 days. While I understand the need to minimize fraud, this is the most illogical thing I've encountered in a while. It's time to move away from credit and convert all purchases to cash. Cash is king, and I don't have to pay some foolish bank interest for inconveniences like this.

They appear not to care about fraud charges and make no attempt to help the customer figure out what is happening with unauthorized charges. The management team at Citibank is incompetent, disorganized, and lazy. I called in about a double charge on two credit cards, one on my citi bank card and one on my US Bank credit card for the same item from a vendor. Citi bank urged me to file a dispute through them rather than to allow the vendor, who agreed to refund my money, to send me my money/refund via a wire transfer. While I agree that a refund on my credit card was the best option, the vendor said they were not able to refund my card because it was an international transaction. Citi bank asked me to submit documentation proving my case (i.e., email thread with vendor acknowledging the double charge and agreement to refund me the money; and a bank statement showing the double charge with the vendor's name), which is expected. I provided the requested documentation. Citi confirmed that they received the requested documentation.
Citi reviewed the claim. Citi denied the claim stating I did not provide the requested documentation. Citi put the charge back onto my credit card. I called citi bank to inquire about this and the citi representative said they could not read my documents. I asked why they didn't state that in the denial letter so I knew what was wrong. They said they didn't know but that I could reopen the claim and resubmit the requested documentation. I resubmitted the requested documentation a second time. I called citi bank again to confirm that I provided the correct and requested documents and asked if they could read all the documents. The citi representative said yes to both and that they would bring these to the team and reopen my dispute.
Citi re-reviewed my claim. Citi re-denied my claim again stating that I did not provide the requested documentation in my denial letter (i.e., they sent the same letter a second time) and said that I was liable and to blame. This case has been open for almost 3 months with the vendor clearly agreeing to the double charge and willing to refund my money. I just didn't want to provide my account information for a wire transfer, which citi agreed was no the safest option. Since my second rejection I have had to pay the money to citi bank concerned in this dispute. So even if I were to try and re-open the claim a third time I would only get a credit on my card and not the actual money. Working with citi bank has been useless and frustrating since they work in circles and won't do their job. I found a different competent bank to do the wire transfer with the vendor and I received my money in less than two weeks.

Citibank Mastercard was great until I had a problem. I was conned and reported it to them, the local pd, my bank, the Federal Trade Commission, had freezes put on credit reporting. When first cancelling my card and telling them my story, it was no problem because the transactions hadn't even been processed. I called the next day and they almost laughingly said they cancelled the charges. So I didn't owe the money. A different story 2 days later. They then gaslighted me constantly, sending me a letter or bill saying I owe the money. I call, I'm told I have a zero balance. Then I started getting transferred from one person to another. Today, 2 months later, I spent 52 minutes on the phone with the specialist department where they assured me they have no EthicsPoint number, they don't know what it is. I already had the number. So more lies.
I found out all credit card companies have Ethics Point accounts, so, if you're having a problem, Citi group Ethics Point is the search. You might want to download and read their Code of Ethics and Conduct. Another credit card company did this of their own volition for me and they then posted those transactions as misposted and I don't owe them. I also just found out they have an arbitration process that you can call and tell them you would like to start that. Search **. Before this happened, I had no idea that so many employees are willing to lie, mislead and distract over, for me, a relatively small amount of money. Citibank must be hard on their employees as well as customers. I wish I could have given them a negative 5 star review. For all I know they are working in tandem with the grifters. Mastercard has their own Ethics Point. So I am reporting both Citi group and Mastercard.
When reporting to the police the incident, they told me, that in all reality, no credit or debit card transaction, no online anything is safe. So what are we to do as they slowly getting rid of real money? This whole internet, cellphone, electronic thing is out of control as anybody will tell you. And we just keep giving more and more of our lives to this bloated spider called the way life is.

I just called again because it was declined and I’m not able to access my accounts on the app and they told me they can’t get into my account with any of the information I provided they are frauds, so since they couldn’t get into unlocking my account I guess they don’t get any payments on my account from the future on!! My credit will take a hit but I don’t mind for frauds like these companies I will dispute these on my credit because they are the ones who locked me out of it!!! And I have the proof!! Stay away from CITI credit cards, it’s nothing but a headache and bull!!!

My Macy's STORE card was my first credit card - 27 years ago. I purposely used it and maintained it. Sometime later, I also opened a Macy's Amex account. In June 2024, received Citibank/Macy's notice STORE and AMEX accounts were being consolidated in July. I called and closed the Amex account immediately thinking that would stop MY FIRST CREDIT card account being closed. On July 24th, I called to validate. I was told BOTH accounts were closed and cannot be reopened. I was told since I had both accounts, I was classified as "dual" and the store account was closed and could not be reopened, "It was a "systematic process," I was told.
Well, that may be what Citi and Macy's want and somewhat makes business sense to keep the Amex account over the store one, BUT WHAT ABOUT WHAT I WANT!?!? You know, me over here, the customer? I'm livid my long history STORE account has indeed been reported to the credit bureaus as closed. This leaves a lasting, very lasting sour feeling towards both Citi and Macy's. Again, you need customers (both of you) to survive, right? Shouldn't I have some say on what I want?
I won't say I will never shop at Macy's again, but for routine things (like skincare), I'll be shopping elsewhere, even if I am standing at the skincare counter at Macy's and see something I want, I won't forget this and will likely take my dollars elsewhere. I mean, skincare tends to be the same price at all the department stores. I really want my STORE account reopened, especially after 27 years. I have a near perfect credit score.

The points deviate downwards when you buy gift cards. These cards are good for obscure merchants and others you might find in major airports. If you take a statement credit it doesn’t count as payment. You will miss out on your thank you points by taking a statement credit. Terrible credit fraud support and customer service. I was traveling and had "suspicious charges" on my credit card. This was the third day into the trip, so a little late, but I should have informed them I was traveling. Instead of receiving a helpful text message like their competitors do, Citibank turned off my card. I called to have it fixed, and they asked for my secret code, which I provided. Then they said they were going to send a verification text and asked me which number to send it to. I replied, "Just send it to the number you have on file. That's my number." The representative responded that she could not. I had to give her the number to send the text to. I said that seems suspicious, so she transferred me to a manager who said the same thing. I decided, never mind, this seems strange, so I will just cancel this card. She said she would send a cancellation letter to my house. That letter never arrived.
Even though I never verified the purchases, a few days later, the "suspicious" purchases went through. So, they gave me all that hassle and still allowed the charges that they deemed bad enough to turn off my credit Juneau Alaska while I was traveling. I called to cancel my card. Same security questions. He asked if I received a letter and asked me to give him the confirmation from the letter. I did. Then he asked to verify my address. I said, "Well, you've already verified that I have the letter you sent to my address. Do you really need it again?" The frustrating part is that all the hassle to verify your personal identity is just for show. Our family have used Citibank for over two decades, but it has become quite problematic recently. Transferring my funds out of my Citibank account feels like a nightmare. They have used various excuses to question the legitimate source of the money and have denied my online wire transfer to my spouse's Citibank account, even though the funds were transferred online into my account a few months ago from a Chase Bank account which we both jointly own. Worse still, they are now asking me to add my spouse's name to my account before they can release the funds for wire transfer. Otherwise, they threaten to hold and freeze it indefinitely. To add a new name, we must both visit a branch, but Citibank has no branches in Georgia, where we live. My urgent need for a quick money transfer is now in jeopardy.
I made four calls in two days, none has worked it out. They promised to email me a form for adding my spouse's name to my account, which I can then fill out and return, but that email never arrived. In one call, the rep even asked me to visit a Chase Bank branch and let Chase recall the originally online transferred incoming funds. How funny to have that idea! I cannot imagine it is doable. I must definitely never let my balance go unpaid and pay it in full. So then I can maximize my benefits. I used to have their auto pay, but then I moved to another state. Due to the remote location with less access, I was unable to restart my auto pay that was associated with my new bank account. One of the reasons why I couldn’t reset up my auto pay was due to needing verification through plaid or whatever. So since October, I’ve been paying my bill by telephone.
Last month, I decided I was going to try to reinstate my auto pay for convenience and I travel a lot. I tried putting in my account number and it rejected it. So I said to heck with it and called in my payment paying it in full. Then about three days later I got an email saying I had a bounced check fee for $30 plus $41 for the payment! I was super confused so I called them. The first agent wasn’t helping. So I called again only to get told that I had made an automatic payment and it bounced. So I asked the agent if she would walk me through the process of setting up automatic payments. She was very rude and instead of helping. She literally lectured me on my responsibility. And all I wanted to do was set up auto pay.
I asked for a manager, and the manager was somewhat helpful and told me that I needed to go to the bank and have them draft it out each month. Not through the app because the app was not working correctly. Oh my gosh, what happened to old-fashioned just sending a check in the mail. None of this is helpful and is a big fat waste of time. There are better cards out there, that appreciate your business and have better rewards. I would recommend any person not to want to deal with any kind of headache like this to find a different card.

Each month I would not have a bill with any interest charges. I applied for a Flex Loan with this card, for some medical expenses and I was presented with a 12.99% interest rate. As I normally do, I charged a miscellaneous amount onto my card. Once it posted, I immediately paid that charge. I receive my bill and I now have an extra interest charge of $41 on my account. When I call to question it, I was informed that the amount I paid went to my Flex Loan instead of the normal charge. When I asked about adjusting the charge for this month, I was denied my request as I was told it is against their policy to refund interest charges.
Based on this interaction, Citibank has willingly engaged in deceptive billing practices and treating card borrowers unfairly for the purposes of their own capital gain. Although in my situation, I recognize that this is a minor amount, however companies that continuously engage in this type of predatory behavior should not be allowed to take advantage of the people as a whole.

Is this not something you should warn customers about ahead of time. Now I had to leave my car at the mechanic, take an Uber with a 3 year old in tow. To pick up my older child who was outside in the dark waiting for me. And take a Uber home!?! Maybe Citi bank could have warned me and I would have planned on a different payment method tonight. How will we get to school tomorrow? Are you paying for all of these Uber rides Citi bank?

Updated on 05/04/2024: Another 6 days have gone by with no refund of the $2,000.00 that the merchant, Caribbean Cruise Line had refunded me on 02/12/2024. I received two letters from Citibank informing me that the money had been refunded dated Feb. 19th 2024 and March 20th 2024. However, instead of crediting me, they charged me the $2,000.00, that was on hold, during the dispute. So once again I’m having to fight to get the money the merchant sent back to me that Citibank is still holding. Beware of Citibank NA, BestBuy, Visa U.S.A. Inc. Citibank BestBuy Visa credit card.
Original Review: CitiBank/Best Buy Credit Card Company has the worst consumer service ever. Every month, I pay about $5,000.00 in credit card payments, never late. I disputed a $2,000.00 charge from Royal Caribbean / Liberty by the Sea Cruise Line, where they double charged me on two separate credit cards for the same $2,000.00 in January 2024. On March 12th, Citi Bank said I lost my dispute. On March 20th, Citi Bank said the cruise line agreed with my claim and refunded the money. Instead of refunding me, Citi Bank kept the refunded $2,000.00 and then charged me another $2,000.00. I have been fighting with them at least 8 hours a week for 6 weeks to get my refund back out of their very greedy and thieving hands.
Beware of Citi Bank credit cards and Citi Bank in general. Citi Bank is no good, beware of Citi Bank. I only wish I could post my statements and the letters showing they have my refunded money in their greedy hands and Citi Bank refuses to give it back to my account Along with a 500.00 and two 150.00 fraud charges over 6 months ago that I reported at the time it was happening and still pending, and they refused to stop the pending charges and refused to credit my card back.

If you have a Citibank credit card and use it for international travel, it's useless! Citi closed my account and emailed me that there was a fraud charge on it... I never saw any fraud, but they closed the card. Then they FedEx me a new card to my US address after I told them I was traveling in Brazil. I'm in Brazil for a few months and called Citibank for a new card over 10 times in two months and they kept saying it was processing. I applied for a new Chase card and received it in 5 days in Brazil. After months still no Citibank card. As I'm off to South Korea now, I asked Citibank to close my account after 31 years. It took 2 hours and horrible harassing phone calls to get them to just close my account. Also, citi said if card is sent to foreign address they would close my account in 60 days. I'm now a loyal Chase card holder...

I've been a Citi Card member for 20+ years. I intend on canceling my account with them after I pay off my balance of $4K. The reasons why I will be canceling is as follows: 1). They continue to increase my APR (21.74%) as I make monthly payments that significantly exceed the minimum payment. Simply, they gouge their customers!! When calling CS to request a decrease in the APR, they give a scripted "REQUEST DENIED" response without taking into consideration my customer loyalty, 790+ credit score, and timely payments. I don't need to listen to a business lesson on prime rates in association with their false competitive APR!!
2). I've had to contest a few fraudulent charges on my account. Charges that were never authorized by me and never involved any interaction/correspondence with a "vendor" or "business". One dispute took months to resolve in order to get my account refunded from the fraudulent $200 charge. These unauthorized charges occurred within months of each other which is very suspect to me considering I've never been a victim of fraud involving my account.
Overall, enough is enough. I hate to consider opening up a new account, but I can't continue to do business with a credit card company that doesn't value their customers and wishes to extract as many dollars from their consumers who have great to excellent credit. Furthermore, they need a stronger Fraud Department/System to detect fraudulent activity.

I would never ever do business with a company that uses deceptive practices. I received mail with the envelope stating “DO NOT BEND OR TEAR” which seemed important to me. All it was is a credit card offer. So, yes, you got me to open your envelope which is what you wanted. However, you showed me how you do business. As I started out saying in this review, I never do business with companies that use deceptive practices so your marketing backfired. Not only will you never get my business, you get this review.

I have a credit score of the high 700s - have many lines of credit with a high limit and this company approves me for $500. I got this card for the sole purpose of a balance transfer which what am I to do with that limit? Not only the low limit but a pull to my credit. I have called twice to have someone explain to me for being in such a good standing with credit why I am only approved for $500. No answer. I also opened up a secured credit card about 6 years ago with this company for $300. Since then I have grown my credit beautifully and like I said have a score in the high 700s. They still won’t unsecure it. I just thought it was the secure card that was a pain but it seems to be the company. Hopefully I can get some answers but have no doubt this will be a headache.

Citi is definitely not what they used to be. Their customer service is horrible. Most of them are pleasant but most of the time when I call, particularly during the day, they can't really answer my questions. Today was the last straw. Doesn't help that they have very heavy accents so it is sometimes hard to understand what they are saying. No disrespect, I have an accent but customers need to know what is being said without the embarrassment for either person. The worst is that they couldn't answer my question. Simply was what is the final amount for payoff in 6 days including any interest & charges. Too much of a song & dance. Then I was told no one could answer that question. I could only to wait on my next statement. Mind you all other banks & credit card companies that I called had no problem giving me the full amount.

I have come to hate Citi Bank. I have the American Airlines Citibank card. Every once in a while I have an issue and when I call them they are absolutely no help. The current issue is all my pending charges are doubled up. Mind you these are several different charges for several different vendors. The doubling has caused me to have no available credit. I spend 250,000 a year on this card and they say it is me not them. Wrong answer. I also have a Chase card with Marriott and I have never had a problem with them. Do not get the Citibank American Airlines card. You will someday regret it.

I applied for the CitiCard AAdvantage card to earn sky miles to travel with. Much to our surprise, we have never been able to use the earned miles (more than 50,000) in any capacity. American Airlines says there is "glitch" in their system that has excluded me from using the miles earned and they tell me they are not allowed to make reservations for me and apply those miles earned. I was also told the hold on the account is indefinite.
While American Airlines and Citi has represented each other in this AAdvantage scam, neither one of the companies will do anything about it and frankly, just don't care. They are aware of the scam. I paid my CITI card off before the due date in full and they still mailed me another interest bill. Basically interest on interest for $11.04. Again, the entire balance was paid off before the due date. So, they are staggering the interest rate dates differently from billing dates which I find immoral. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of both of these companies.

My Dad recently passed and had several Citicards… I talked with someone about getting his cards cancelled and the person cancelled MY Citicards too…. They said they ‘might be able to reinstate them but the credit limit wouldn’t be as high’ - oh and it will take 14 days… I switched all my bills/autopay to my backup card and since it collects miles and I was able to raise my credit limit to what it was on my Citicard with a few mouse clicks - congrats Citicards - you are my backup card now… Go somewhere else to get credit cards. There are A LOT of other banks you can use…

Please do not use this or apply for this credit card. I tried to get assistance in updating my telephone number and the representative would not let me speak. The second representative with Citi-Advantage didn't understand that I had just applied for the card and wanted to use it to purchase AA tickets, he put me on mute and never came back. The third representative told me I couldn't get a temporary number that was offered to me after being approved and she also said that there was no way in them providing that number. My last call was to cancel my application and they said they couldn't help me. Everyone that I spoke to was from Asia and it was difficult understanding them. I started using Citi visa card when it partnered with Costco Wholesale. Five months ago, a third-party company did “fraud inducement” on me in regards to a up coming hotel stay, a month away. When I called the hotel the next day to verify my reservation, there was no reservation made in my name. I call Citi immediately to notify them. I told Citi I gave them my information thinking that they were working with the hotel, it was the Hotel that I originally called to make the reservation and the hotel staff-person transferred me to this third-party twice. Why twice, when I first talked with this third-party, the information didn’t make sense, so I hung up and called the hotel back telling them what was said. The hotel staff-person (same person) again transferred me to the third-party stating only they could make the reservation and I could call back the next day to verify the reservation. So Citi transferred me to the fraud department to make a claim.
A month later checking in at the hotel I was informed that I had booked two separate rooms, I checked into the room that I booked with the hotel because at the time, a month ago the Hotel did not have a reservation me. When I got home, I called Citi regarding the two booked rooms. A few weeks later I receive a letter from Citi saying that they filed in favor of the third party because I gave them my information and that is not fraud. I told them I gave them my information and the situation surrounding why it was given to them. I told Citi I did not agree over the phone and in a written letter.
Today I called Citi after receiving a letter stating the claim was closed and it favored the third party. I was told by a staff member in the fraud department that it was filed in the wrong department. I find it interesting that Citi themselves send me to the wrong department in dealing with my claim. Good bye Citi, I now know who side you are on. Like Costco but with “Citi” very disappointed.P **

Home Depot policy for billing if you didn't know. Bill is due on the 4th of each month, pay off balance each month, use card before the 8th and that charge goes on the balance you just paid off. Home depot does not notify you of this. They just charge a 29 dollar late fee and say it is the bank's policy. They assume the customer is not going to make a charge so soon after paying the balance (per credit services). We pay balance off every month on due date, but now once this balance is paid we will be getting rid of home depot card and getting a lowe's or menards.

Well I thought I was going to explain my big terrible problem but for the first time in my life the first three reviews I read were exactly the three parts of my problem. One they don't have good customer service. I have people on the phone that can speak English, but they're just on a track, when I tell them, "Hey I'm going to explain this to you, you're just going to transfer me." They go right along pretending like they're not, & will fix problems & then I'm told to explain it, then sure enough, they say they're going to transfer me and can't help from their department.
When I explained the problem & ask them to get back to me. They NEVER HAVE ONCE! They make me late on my payments as a result of their automated system hanging up or not having the proper options/info, like if I want to pay all of last month's balance, it decides to no longer tell me that balance, it will only tell me last month plus whatever I've gotten additional this month so far as the total. Then it will say, "We can't process you." No 2nd chance. Just end of call.
830 am is the robot call, then 8 seconds later a foreign agent says, "Is this..." Amid a ton of background noise. Another words they make communication harder, give the agents less English requirements & less options to work with you in their department, once you have a problem & you need to work it out with Citibank. 830am every day of the week. Even if you request 12 noon. You must certify on a recording with an agent you want {NO CALLS AT ALL FROM CITIBANK} or else keep taking the 830 am harassment calls ad infinitum. Truly low brow interaction dealing with citibank. Costco, L for choosing this over American Express. Even Chase gleams in comparison to this customer service interaction/interface.

I added my son to my Citibank Costco card. 99% of the charges on the card each month are from him, and his goal is to pay it off each month. He goes in, clicks on "Pay Balance" and pays it. It will show he has a zero balance, but there will actually be a balance. Apparently, he can't see it even though they are his posted charges. Why would they say "here is the amount to pay the balance" and then NOT pay the balance?
This happened several times. We called, and their "explanation" was that somebody added to the account cannot see all charges. But they can see their charges. But he was NOT seeing his charges. (I didn't use the card for two months, and he still was not seeing 50%+ of his charges when he logged in.) The representative just kept saying, he is an added card member so won't see all charges. But he would not clarify what charges he was not able to see! We finally canceled it, losing $100+ of Costco money back. It is a ridiculous system of not actually showing the balance owed when asking for the balance owed!

I am a COSTCO member for >15years and had their CITICARD from the day they switched from AMEX to Citi. With too many credit cards on hand I closed my account in Jan'24 without realizing I will be missing out on my $199 in Rewards I earned because the certificates are sent out in February. I called up on why I have not received and was told I closed my card but however if I reopened the card they would mail me the certificate. So the agent on a recorded line reapplied for the card, did a hard credit pull and told me if the card is approved the certificate would be mailed out.
Card was approved, I took a credit pull hit and now when I called to ask for the certificate, a supervisor by name of Hernando told me I have forfeited it, then changed his story to say that maybe if approved they can roll over the reward for use in Feb'25 but not now! I would never have reaped and taken a credit pull hit if not for the agent who promised me the certificate would be mailed if card approved! this is very unethical of CITICARD to do for a long time customer! Am totally disappointed and frustrated. Hernando also had the cheek to tell me to "have a good day" at the end of the call!
