I applied for an American Airlines Citi-Card, because I wanted to take advantage of the miles. My credit score is 806 with TransUnion and the wife and I have excellent credit, a 40 year credit history without a single missed payment and they denied my application. The frustration was in trying to find a human that could tell me why it was denied. The letter said my TransUnion score was below 650, so I figured I must have mistyped my SSN or some other information. I spent 20 minutes trying to call a number to reach someone about this. The letter they provided had a number but it didn't recognize my SSN when I kept entering it in the option window.
I finally used the application ID, got to a human that read the letter I already had back to me. I just asked them if they could check the application to make sure my data I entered was correct as the denial conflicted with reality. She said she could not and I should just apply again later. I begged talk to someone that could go over my application with me so she said she would give me a number to the department that could discuss what was actually on my application. I called the number and it was TransUnion. Worst customer service ever.

They locked my card for suspicious activity when all the charges were legitimate. Now I can’t remove the hold because they can’t verify my account even though I answered all the security questions. Worst credit card I’ve ever used.

I would give them 0 stars if possible. We spend $6K-$8K a month on our credit card. Our cards are set to expire in May. I tried to login to the Citibank website since I got my online statement via email, so I could verify the $6,800 worth of charges before paying and when I used my username and password that I use monthly to verify my statements it didn't work.
So I tried to reset my password providing all of the security words and identification required but it didn't work. So then I called and got a pleasant person in a ex-US call center who was nice but said that since my card is expiring in 3 months, and they sent us a new card 2 days ago, that they will not allow me to reset my password. MY CARD IS EXPIRING IN 3 MONTHS! YOU JUST SENT ME THE CARD 2 DAYS AGO!! THE MAIL TAKES LONGER THAN THAT!!! And we are working snowbirds so we are at our other home for the next couple of months, and our mails is being forwarded, which takes longer. WHICH IS WHY I HAVE ACCESS TO MY ACCOUNT ONLINE SO I CAN CHECK THE CHARGES MONTHLY BEFORE PAYING THEM.
I then asked to be transferred to a manager. The rep came back and said that the manager will not be able to tell me or do anything different so do I still want to talk to him. WOW! I was a call center manager for year and never would have told my rep to say that! I told him yes to speaking to his manager and got a person who said to me something like..."Yes, this policy does not make sense but it is POLICY so nothing anyone can do about it." They offered to go through each line item verbally over the phone with me. Ridiculous!
I need it in writing to review and for records before blindly approving the charges. Then I said this made no sense. The manager was dismissive and abrupt and useless. If this is how Citibank wants to operate, I will cancel our cards and make it my hobby to post this review everywhere I can since somebody had to take accountability for expecting payment from us for a bill we can't view because my card is expiring in 3 months. STOP THE MADNESS!

I'm absolutely astounded at what this company has done to me. I took advantage of a promotional balance transfer. I find out that they've charged me for the transfer and have sent the payoff money to someone else's credit card! I read them the card number that was given them and they tell me they have something else. They tell me they need 1-2 weeks to research. You'd think they would reverse the charge on my card wouldn't you since they've sent it to the wrong place as this is their fault, right? No, they tell me my payment is not due for three more weeks so there is no need and that I'll just have to wait until the research is done. Even though this is under investigation they are still keeping the charge on my account. NO bank does this.
Meanwhile I owe that amount on the other credit card which they were supposed to pay off. I tell them it is not right that my credit score takes a ding for this and every other bank in the world reverses charges when under investigation. The supervisor (and yes I had been transferred to a supervisor) tells me "I'm glad you are so versed in other banks and credit cards, but this is how CitiCard does it."
I then said, "This is very stressful, can you at least send me an email with information that you're researching it, every single bank in the world will do this." He tells me, "no." You'll get something in the hard copy mail in 1-2 weeks after we do our investigation. So I don't even have a paper trail or any information that they're even doing the research. Two things are going to happen when they finish this investigation. One, they're going to find that someone on their end had a slip of the finger and sent the money to the wrong account. They're going to issue another check to the right account. Then I am going pay this Citi Simplicity Card off as soon as possible and will NEVER do business with CitiBank again. I'm so furious.

Normally, I appreciate when a credit card takes additional security measures to keep your account safe. But Citi takes it way too far. I had an issue with a fraudulent transaction which took a month for Citi to rectify. They sent me a notice tocall them on three separate occasions just for them to ask me the exact same questions each time. What, did someone forget to click “Save” after our conversation? Even after that, my online account kept stating there was fraudulent activity detected, and that I needed to call them.
I called customer service twice concerning the notice and they had no answers for me as to why the notice was still on my account. They said I was clear to use my card. Unfortunately, it turns out that wasn’t the case because the majority of the transactions I tried to make on my card were declined. I called customer service the first time it was declined and their answer was to reset my account and to try again. I was on the phone with them for a good 30 minutes while they reset my account and I tried again, and again, and again… It’s been this way for months. Sometimes a transaction will go through, and sometimes it doesn’t. I was using this card for the offer they provided me but not anymore. What’s the point in having a credit card that can’t be used when you need it.

Well it happened to me again, but I watched this time. I received a call when my payment was late in January. I was kinda shocked, because I had sent the payment 10 day prior. I did this because I was late before and didn't realize it took long and wanted to skip the fee (which they waved 1 time). I sent it in (again) 9 days early and watched on my bank for it to clear and it didn't. I never had to stop a check before now had to 2 times... at $15 a pop. So I am rethinking the Costco Citi card when I renew. I know .... pay on line, but geez $46 for a late fee and interest. Just had to vent, but expect nothing other than just that.

Had to cancel my business credit card after years of on time full payment. Citi decided to change the mailing address for payments and did not make the notification apparent. As a business, we print the checks and they are mailed in a company envelope to the address on file. We were charged late fees and interest for the mail delayed payment. After speaking with the representative, who acknowledged that they had numerous people in the same position as us, we thought that everything was cleared up. Not so, after several months, they are still charging us interest (over 24%) on some balance amount? We paid the full amount of what was told to us, but, somehow there is still some amount that is accruing interest. Citi did not seem very concerned with this matter, which was propagated by them. We made every attempt to clear up the matter, to no avail.

After 4 years of being with Citi..no missed or late payments they decided to close my account. The Supervisor I spoke with was rude and taunting me. Said their risk department did so because of my credit score. That shouldn’t matter as long as I make my payments on time right? Terrible and the Risk manager that made this decision should be fired. Now they will never see a dime from me as I will let it go to collections. Bad business in Citi’s behalf. I almost opened an account with their bank. Thankfully I got this letter of closing before doing so. Do not trust this company. Its not about me not paying or being late but now they are going to lose out. The 1000 credit wont make or break me, I have 5 other cards. They literally threw money away with this action.

I recently became a widow. Some of the hard things learned - having to slowly convert credit cards by applying for them as if I have never had one before and having to take the hit on my credit rating. We have had the CitiBank Costco card for over a decade and have never had any issues with them. In the months since becoming a widow, I have been using the card as we always have, and paying the bill, as I always have.
I called today to update the mobile number on file (trying to do what is right and couldn't do it on line) and they refused to talk to me about anything because my husband was the primary card holder and I "was just an authorized user" - mind you when WE applied for this card we were told it was a "JOINT" card - no primary / auth user setup. Well, when I explained they could not talk to him I was told that they would put a freeze on the card until they can. I then explained he had passed several months ago and suddenly the account is immediately shut down.
I asked if there would be a grace period so I can get my auto-pay bills off of it (yes, I used them for that, earning the minimal rebate & paying off the debt in full every month) and I was told "wait for a statement to come in the mail." I have bills hitting this week - in a few days. They didn't care. I was told I can apply for the credit card. I asked if the auto pay could get transferred to the new card - was told no and there is no access to the card any longer. I can't even access the account online to look and see. SO now I am going to end up with missed payments, late charges and whatnot because CitiBank, while I can understand is trying to protect their interests, does not care about what happens to widows / widowers.
In this day and age of technology and things becoming more and more dependent on tech use, you would think that they would at least give a little grace period, a little understanding and compassion go a long way and being helpful in the dark times of transition caused by sudden death. Oh, they did say, "Don't worry about paying the balance today, you can do that when the bill comes." --- UMMMM, I just paid the entire bill about 5 minutes before you so kindly shut it completely down.

I have a Citibank Best Buy card or at least I should. I applied for one a month or two ago. 15 days after I called and reported I hadn't received it so order another one. Again 15, 20 days later I call them and report I haven't received it. I am told yes we have return mail from you. So I ask two months later you don't call or email me about this? Maybe we should hang up and you should call me and notify me that you had return mail! I know they have my email cause they keep sending time to pay (which I do) plus things that are great about the card the one I haven't received. Awful, less than one star customer service.

I applied for a Costco Citi Card but since I have freezes on all the reporting agencies, they couldn't check me out. I knew that would happen so I called them to tell them I would call Experian to get a one-time PIN. I got back to them but the code didn't work. I am in the middle of dealing with Medicare fraud on my ins. so there was no way I was going to unfreeze my acct. So at first their customer service at that particular phone # was good. But then they sent me a letter saying I had been turned down because of it. Fine. But when I tried to get back to them (at several phone #'s including the one that had worked so well at first) I could not get past "the voice" that requires you to make choices. There was no way to speak to a human.
I finally called a regular Citi # and got through "the voice" to a representative but she could not help me navigate this. She could only help me with a completely new application. So I am taking this as a lesson to never deal with Citi again. I am glad I learned about their non-existent customer service before I actually got a card.

Talking to these customer service people is like walking into a brick wall, banging your head into it over and over. I would suggest either get a lawyer or pay them off and burn their card.

I’m very angry at Citi! I normally get an email for my balance. I checked email saw the balance, I paid the amount, I didn’t notice the email was for previous month, so the due amount was short $79.74. Following month noticed $7.98 interest, called and was taking off, Again I paid the full amount due, January 5, bill due January 16. Most recently, my husband was traveling alone and again had a valid transaction rejected.
When I contacted customer service for assistance, I was told they would not review the declined transactions with me or reopen the card, despite the fact that we share the account and are both fully responsible for the bill. This is especially frustrating given that this is the only credit card we have that issues different card numbers under the same shared account—an arrangement that appears to create unnecessary complications for customers. The lack of flexibility, transparency, and support has made this card unreliable for travel and everyday use. Once my husband returns, we intend to close this account.
I am extremely disappointed in Citi’s handling of this situation and hope this feedback is taken seriously. Customer service is very rude and not trying in any way to help. They are slow in understanding the situations and to react, which is extremely important when things need to be fixed from abroad. Asking the same questions over and over again is not helping...

I need someone from Corporate HQ to restoration that has been going on for months. Verizon owed me $65.94 for failure to set up an account and port my phone number. I originally filed a dispute with Citi. Citi wasn't resolving the investigation because Verizon's bank was not responding because I was told they are just a processing center and therefore would not respond. Verizon reps suggested that I withdraw the dispute with Citi so they could refund me. So, I did that. But, then Verizon later stated they could not refund me because Citi put their chargeback money into a holding account which they cannot access. Then I tried to reopen the dispute with Citi and was told they cannot reopen it. So, as of now, Citi has my $65.94 owed to me by Verizon and Verizon's $65.94 in chargeback money.
The disputes department is refusing to refund me and Verizon. I need and want my money back. I am tired of this situation I have filed complaints with the BBB, AZ Office of Inspector General and been in touch with Verizon and sending emails to Citi disputes department with no resolution to date. I need Citi to give me my money or Citi to give Verizon their chargeback money currently in a holding account the Citi rep said so Verizon can refund me. I'm beginning to hate Citi too like I do Verizon. It's making me want to payoff my bill and close my accounts with Citi with Best Buy and Citi Double Cash Card. I'm over both Verizon and Citi. I've been trying to get my money back for months.

I proceeded to changing the auto pays on the account to another card and on 8/27/2025 called to cancel the card. They told me they couldn’t cancel the card that I needed to talk to a supervisor. I was told if I kept the card and made $1,000.00 in charges in 90 days they would credit me the $95.00 and give me thank you points. After much discussion I agreed. I spent more than double of the $1,000.00 and called on 11/24/2025 to find out why I didn’t receive the credit.
In October they charged me the membership fee. They changed the rules and now said I had needed to spend a thousand dollars a month for 3 months to not pay the membership fee. I was also told if I would have called 6 days sooner they would have waived the membership fee. Do not trust Citi Bank. I have since looked and they have a D minus rating with the Better Business Bureau. Citi would rather pay out hundreds of dollars in labor costs than to do the right thing. If I wouldn’t of had issues I would not of canceled the card. But if you have an issue don’t expect them to respond. They will work harder to make you pay for fraud charges or false promises. I am not happy with my City Card experience. I am comparing this with my other cards, such as Discover. I can never log on in the City Card app without manually entering my password - no matter what options I use to log on. In a world of a million passwords, it is a real hindrance to recall the password each time I log in on my phone.
Additionally, my Discover card was compromised, and I had to have another card re-issued. The following day, I thought my Costco Citi card had been compromised too, and I jumped the gun and called to have it closed and reissued. I spoke to someone who was hard to understand due to her heavy accent, and was informed that because the charge was still pending, I would need to go back into the app after the charge cleared and dispute the charge. The wording that was used was almost like I was being penalized for disputing a charge that was only pending. To compare this with my Discover card experience, they never asked me to come back and dispute the charge after it went through.
In a situation where you feel yet another card had been compromised. It just raises your frustration level. They did tell me they would FedEx a card out and I would have it in 1 to 2 business days, which was a plus. Immediately after hanging up, I found that I was in error and the charge was actually legitimate. I called Citi card back immediately to undo and reopen my card, but even though this process occurred literally five minutes ago, the closing of my card could not be undone. They stated security reasons which makes no sense. They could somehow remove the dispute, but not the closing of my card. Grant it, it was my error, but I felt it was unreasonable. I did not deal like a valued customer.

Don't waste your time filing a dispute. I documented the issue, sent copies of email where the merchant is unresponsive. Also provided a photo of the purchase that had partially failed days after delivery. The 10+ years I've had a visa card, I've only disputed a few charges, all of which were legitimate. I had to submit the information multiple times. Citibank is clearly more concerned about the merchants than their customers. As soon as I get my Costco rebate, I'm cancelling this POS card. I attempted "load" a copy of the documents, but their system where you add receipts won't accept it. If you're using this card for business do yourself a favor as get or use an "American Express" card, they stand behind their customers. A "1" star rating is too high.

Absolutely the worst customer service experience I've ever had with a bank. I have maintained a stellar credit history (low 800s) for many years. Applied for their new "Strata Elite" card. Heard nothing. Almost impossible to speak with a live representative. When calling, expect a record amount of prompts and you STILL may not get a customer service representative. They ask for your S.S.# innumerable times which I am loathe to give out over the phone. Finally someone told me that they sent out an IRS form via snail mail to verify my income (which I never received). NO FINANCIAL INSTITUTION HAS EVER ASKED THAT OF ME BEFORE FOR A FREAKING CREDIT CARD. It's not like I'm applying for a damn mortgage. I finally got a live (or AI?) representative who I told to cancel the application. NO CARD IS WORTH THIS BULLSHIT.

I want to share my recent experience as a cautionary note. Before my account was due for the annual fee, I called Citi to cancel the card. Instead, I was persuaded to keep the account open and switch to a no-fee option a decision I now regret. Despite this agreement in early October 2025, Citi never removed the annual fee. They began charging late fees and interest, and soon their collections department started calling multiple times a day, which felt harassing. Each time I contacted Citi, on four separate occasions, I was told the fees would be reversed and that the process takes time. However, two months later, nothing has been resolved, and the collection calls continue. This experience highlights serious issues with Citi’s customer service and internal processes. Based on what I’ve encountered, I strongly advise avoiding Citi credit cards.

I’m extremely disappointed with how Citibank handled my recent dispute. The merchant split one single charge into two different transactions, totaling $2,304.47. Citibank approved the dispute on the smaller portion, but refused to approve the second part — even though it was all part of the same original charge. I provided full documentation showing that this was one transaction, not two separate purchases, yet Citibank still denied the larger dispute without a clear explanation. Customer service gave inconsistent answers and didn’t seem to actually review the evidence. It feels like Citibank protected the merchant instead of their own customer. After this experience, I no longer trust their dispute process and would caution others to pay close attention to how their claims are handled.

Same number I have had for 45 years. Offers to take the information over the phone, but really I can't understand what he is saying. So I call back using my home number, which they have in the system also. This guy's accent is not so bad. Each time they verify me by asking for my best friend's last name. Well, OK, he died nine years ago but the first time, voice recognition works, the second and third time it doesn't. So second call, they still refuse to give me an ID code so I can do this online and don't have to share with foreign rep.
I ask to speak with a supervisor, who also has an accent but says she is in Miami. Puts me on hold several times, says she sends me a text message but I don't receive it. Maybe they are using old cell number from 12 years ago. She says it might take four days to update my phone contact ability. Around 2 years ago I ran into a dispute with a student loan company that I consigned for. My credit score slowly got reduced due to this. What I don't understand is why they increased my interest rate by 5%. I've never missed a payment from the day I signed the agreement to accept a Citibank credit card. Outside of missing payments for the student loan that's in dispute, I haven't missed a payment in the 30 years on anything, anything at all. Now imagine if I was destitute. You're in a bad situation. You've never missed a payment and your banking institution makes things worse for you. Costco should be ashamed of itself and I'm canceling my executive membership with them when renewal comes due. I had a recent call experience with Citi regarding reconsideration of my application for a Citi card. I’d like to file a formal complaint and request for open record of this call or transcription of the call. As a consumer I have repeatedly been declined credit with Citibank. I contacted the cs office to walk me through the process. The response was extremely insightful; however the standards described to me warrant a lack of transparency and consistency in customer screenings, negligent use of consumer credit information, and risk for potential customer bias and discriminatory practices.
The cs rep I was in contact with Amanda suggested that I reapply. I then asked what credit bureaus information is being access. She explained to me these are pulled at random. At any given time any of the 3 bureaus may be used to make a wholistic decision to approve or decline for credit. I requested that my application be reviewed with an additional review of my Transunion report. I informed this is my right. She advised that was not possible and to go on the website and reapply again. Information should not be based on a lottery number of credit bureaus! This is absolutely unacceptable.
I requested a contact to make a complaint or to provide feedback on our call. The cs rep also advised this doesn’t exist with Citibank. I’ve had several instances with Citi over the past year and similar generic responses. There is an overall vagueness regarding their processes lacking reliability and transparency. Clearly there is a training opportunity and a meaningful method to improve customer engagement, performance and satisfaction. I will make my concerns known to the BBB, Consumer Protection, and FTC.

I am filing this complaint due to unfair and unethical treatment by Citibank regarding my credit card account. I have been a Citi customer for over five years with an excellent payment history. My original credit limit was $11,000, and despite falling on hard times, I never made a late payment or exceeded my limit. As I began paying down my balance, often making payments of several thousand dollars at a time Citi began lowering my credit limit. By the time I paid my balance down to zero, my limit had been reduced to $720. This action caused my credit utilization ratio to spike temporarily, resulting in a negative impact on my credit score. When I contacted customer service to dispute or understand the reasoning, I was told repeatedly that the decision was made by their “automated system.” Even after requesting to speak with a supervisor, I received the same scripted response and no resolution.
No one at Citi would take accountability or provide an option for review or reinstatement of my previous limit. I believe this practice is deceptive and punitive, especially toward long-standing customers with strong payment histories. Instead of rewarding responsible repayment, Citi chose to penalize me at a time when I was demonstrating financial responsibility. Because of this experience, I have closed all of my Citi accounts and will not do business with them again. However, I believe it’s important for other consumers to be aware of Citi’s practices, and to hold the company accountable for unfair credit management policies. Shame on Citi for punishing loyal customers who pay responsibly.

Citi Bank took my payment and applied it to the 0% interest bearing balance instead of my purchase balance. They proceeded to charge me interest on that $2000 purchase. I told the human agent to get me a "manager" or "banker." The "manager" said she had no ability to overturn "Citi's" decision. I told her that made no sense, and with such a low credit limit, I can't buy all of the Costco and other items I would to get the Citi and Costco rebates... I had been FORCED to use Citi-Bank by applying for credit cards for the Home Depot and subsequently Costco. As if the experience with the Home Depot Citi-Bank card wasn't so incredibly aggravating and frustrating, I should have known it would be no different when Costco forced us upon this ridiculous entity! I have not only stopped using my Home Depot card(s), but because the Home Depot has become so unethical and selling nothing but JUNK TOOLS who's manufacturers won't take responsibility for I WILL NOT shop there any longer. Tractor Supply Company and ACE Hardware are SO MUCH better options. Citi-Bank's credit card with the Home Depot was just the underscore in my decision to discontinue BOTH.
I recently misplaced my wallet, and went through locking all my credit cards therein. Attempting to contact Citi-Bank was an exercise in INCREDIBLE FRUSTRATION and ANGER. Their AI phone system is as impotent as Citi-Bank itself. After NUMEROUS calls in attempt to complete a simple task, the agent I spoke to, instead of locking the card, cancelled it and ordered a replacement. I found this out calling back less than 18 hours after my initial call. The CSR I then spoke to said she didn't know why the card was cancelled and reordered, as it simply could have been locked. The replacement took a full week to arrive. Therein began the ultimate frustration and aggravation. I had to call 4 times to get the 'new card' activated, FINALLY getting through to a live person, who advised the new card was activated and ready for use. WRONG!!!
I spent over 20 minutes at the Costco fuel station trying to use the card, because it was declined. 4 more attempts with that RIDICULOUS "Interactive Voice Recognition" joke of a 'Customer Service' method of Citi-Bank's I FINALLY got through to another 'live' person who stated the card was locked! How that happened who the heck knows. The card was originally cancelled and reordered, so the new card should NOT have been 'locked'. Further, when the 'live' representative had 'activated' the new card (after the 4 calls to do so), she SHOULD HAVE NOTICED IT WAS "LOCKED"!!!! Incompetence and impotence....THAT'S Citi-Bank!!!
If it were not for the businesses I have CHOSEN to do business with, HAD NOT FORCED me to be associated with Citi-Bank, I never would be. Like the Home Depot it has seriously caused me to question my association with Costco, as THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES. No doubt why there is THIS in regards to Citi-Bank: Yes, Citibank (Citigroup) is in trouble, facing significant penalties and regulatory scrutiny due to persistent issues with risk management, data, and internal controls, which have led to large fines and a major reorganization under CEO Jane Fraser to correct these failures. The bank has been on notice from regulators since 2020 and has violated prior enforcement actions, most recently being fined $136 million in July 2024 for a lack of progress on fixing these issues.
Citigroup's controversies include recent and past instances of operational errors, such as mistakenly crediting an $81 trillion account, and the mismanagement of a $900 million payment to Revlon creditors, leading to financial losses. The bank has also faced significant regulatory penalties and legal actions for issues including discrimination against Armenian-American credit applicants, failing to protect consumers from fraud, and misleading investors in past financial scandals. The bank continues to operate under regulatory scrutiny for its internal risk management and data governance systems.

I redeemed my points and immediately noticed the error and called Citi Travel and they stated that I had a 24 hour window to cancel and rebook without penalty. I needed to reschedule the trip for several days into the following week and my initial booking was canceled by Citi Travel and confirmed via email. Citi Travel said to rebook on the app but my points showed 0 balance and the charge remained on my card.
My hotel told me to call Citi Travel, which I did and now I’m told by Citi Travel that I’m losing all of my points plus $40.99 that was the residual that I paid for booking a room for two nights as a “penalty”. However, Citi Travel was given a fee waiver by my hotel and I was told that I would get my points back and my money refunded and now I’m told by Citi Travel that their travel partner Expedia has not agreed to waive whatever this fee is, I lost everything, which seems to be outrageous because I canceled and rebooked within minutes of my initial reservation when I noticed my error.

Do yourself a favor and AVOID Citibank Credit Cards! They will deny legitimate fraud disputes. I always trusted Citibank until I needed help with a ONE SINGLE small disputed charge and let me tell you, THEY DON’T CARE!! I made them aware that I received counterfeit trademarked goods that were not as described. I emailed merchant in good faith with no response. Logically, I asked Citi for help through a credit card dispute- only to be denied. Terrible customer service! I later attempted to use online chat to further discuss and that experience was abysmal. Shame on you Citibank! There are plenty of credit cards out there- choose wisely and DON’T CHOOSE CITIBANK!

As an attorney, I value my time. It is quite clear that Citi does not. When a dispute arose with a merchant over a $3,850 charge, I had to contact Citi team members repeatedly to explain the issue. They failed to take corrective action for weeks. When I followed up, they asked me to supply yet more information, all of which was provided immediately. Weeks later, I received a letter in the mail stating that they could not take any action because too much time had elapsed. Outrageous! If Citi wants to use their own 2-month delay as an excuse, they can go fly a kite. I closed the account, and my firm will never do business with Citi again.

We had our Citibank Dividend card since 1985 - yes you read that right - 1985. We had our Citibank Advantage since 2001. NEVER a late payment. Never over the limit. Please believe me when I say one month we got NO statement in the mail on either account. I didn't catch it in time on the Advantage card and nearly had a heart attack when I got the email saying we were late by 2 days. I immediately made the payment online and and paid the next month's payment at the same time. I set both cards up for autopay in case this happens again but it has never happened in 40 years on the one card, 24 on the other. Right after that I got an ugly email stating that our cc limits were nearly cut in half BECAUSE OF ONE LATE PAYMENT IN 40 YEARS!
I called them up and they said not to worry; it's only one late pay. This could be remedied. Then I got a letter in the mail telling me no, they would not put the limits back to where they were. So I called again. This person took down our income and mortgage payment info and said they had made a mistake. We were late only ONE time; her notes showed three times in the past year! I made her go over the cc payments with me and she oops, yes, only one time. I will get this corrected and have the prior limits restored. They were not and I called again and got some hateful foreigner that said you already got the letter in the mail denying the request. I said yes but that was before the error was corrected showing we were late three times.
I sent a very nice letter to the CEO and asked them to please, please have someone review this again. We have been loyal customers for 40 years and could have changed to another cc many times with better interest rates. It took 3 weeks for them to call me up and basically tell me to pound sand. NO they would not put the limits back to where they were. Great credit score. NO late payments. NO adverse remarks. ONE hard credit check when we bought our car. No, get lost basically. And, yes, she said it was because of one late payment in 40 years. I instantly paid off the Dividend card and will have the Advantage card paid off ASAP. Now how much money will they make off of us? Where is the loyalty? Who is running the show - AI?

They claim to allow a customer to set up a virtual account number with a daily spending limit. I have used these for online purchases many times and appreciated the fact I could establish a spending limit on a transaction and a short expiration date on the number. I can now say they have purposely mislead their customers.
A fraudulent charge was placed on my account after using a Virtual account number with a daily spending limit. That fraudulent charge Citi allowed even though it was 16 times the daily limit I established for the charge. I just gave up trying to dispute the charge with Citi Cards. Fast forward to July 8th. Just received my Home Depot statement and there is an additional late fee but interestingly no interest charge this month. I have called at least 20 times and have received multiple different answers including speaking to Jim on 4/4/25, which he informed me that everything would be taken care of and that I did not need to make any payment as my account balance was zero after taking the fraudulent charge into account.
Over the last month I have been told that it was under investigation and would take another 5 to 7 business days (another canned message) several times. In the meantime, CitiBank has reported my account as past due (late payment) to the credit Bureau which has dropped my credit score which was about 825. I have always paid my bills 100% on time. Right from the CitiBank website "Disputes typically do not impact your credit. You are not obligated to pay for a charge that you're disputing while it's under review, and the issuer can't charge you interest on that charge." I am at the end of my rope and would like someone from senior management to get involved to help resolve the issue and more importantly restore my credit as soon as possible. I asked to speak to the supervisor, who clearly hasn't given Destiny any support. Then a bored-sounding woman called Keisha comes on the line, is barely responsive throughout my explanation of what is going on, disappears to look at my account and then comes back saying to call back in the morning. She said 'there's nothing we can do now, because of the protocols', did not elaborate at all on what that meant and insisted I call back tomorrow. CitiBank, how can YOU lock me out of my card, make the only solution be me calling you up, then refuse to unlock it when I do what you told me to do? By June 4, 2025 I still have a “pending” charge on my Citi Mastercard. The rental car agency thoroughly advised Citi that they released/canceled the pending charge to my card the same day I paid using my Visa card.
I’ve been provided four receipts from them as proof the charge has been satisfied. As a result of this my credit score has dropped 7 points because I have a “higher” usage rate than the previous billing cycle. On top of that Citi says I have a payment with them even though there’s only the “pending” charge that doesn’t actually exist and there are no other charges. Also, I will have not had full access to monies on the Citi card because this charge will remain in a pending status for over a month. Citi has offered no resolutions to my issue. I get put through another 40 minutes of transfers and numbers only to end at the fraud department and the woman says they can’t verify my identity even though I VERIFIED IT WITH EACH DEPARTMENT MORE THAN 10 TIMES AT THIS POINT MINUTES BEFORE.
She then locks down my account, cancels my BRAND NEW credit card, and tells me CITI will send me a letter in 10 days with a code that will allow me to call to inquire about my account, and cannot help me till then. I ask if there is any other way I can verify since I just went through multiple department earlier that verified my account/identity and maybe she could text a code to my phone like they’d done earlier, or like statements, etc., or if I can talk to a manager or anyone/department who would possibly be able to help at all with the verification process.
She just talked over me repeating over and over she would not help me because she doesn’t know who I am then just hangs up on me. When Citi flags attempted charges as being "fraudulent" it creates a problem. I attempted to order a few things from Amazon (less than $35!) and the purchases were declined. After these purchases were declined, my "Citi card points" were also removed from my rewards. So, I ended up having to use another credit card to make purchases from amazon and yet my Citi "rewards" cash was removed. This is not good business practice in my opinion. I attempted to contact the company through their website and that was basically impossible.
