The past 19 months have been very difficult for me (COVID/medical issues) and I got behind in my mortgage payments. I was recently granted a forbearance for my mortgage and I called to see if there was anything that I needed to do and to say "Thank You!" From the moment that Belinda answered the phone I felt like I was a person and not just a loan number. She was bright and cheerful and professional in everything that she did. Belinda explained everything regarding my situation and made certain that she answered any questions that I had. I was so relieved by the end of the conversation that I became tearful (but they were tears of relief and happiness). Belinda treated me with respect and dignity. She is a true credit to your company and I look forward to working with her.

15 years as a customer, struggled during covid so was on a plan. Wanted to start paying this Spring and they would not take payment until I applied again for assistance. Applied 5 times, they take a month to get back and request the same info over and over. Would not take a monthly payment from me for 6 straight months yet reported me late to credit bureaus. This torpedoed my score and no other mortgage firm will work with me. How do you refuse money and still report late? Time to call 60 minutes and 20-20.

She was extremely helpful, understanding, patient and giving of her time: top-notch, professional service. As a new customer, this was really a great first impression of the company. I would give them 0 stars if I could.. These people bought my mortgage, And then instead of putting my mortgage payments towards my mortgage they Put it in an unsettled fund account and then tell us that we're behind every month. We then have to call them every month to tell them it's the mortgage payment it doesn't belong in unsettled funds.. Then they are always send foreclosure notices even after we make the payments.. We have had them for 3 months and before we made our first payment they screwed up and it's been a problem since. Somehow they they are saying that we owe an extra $500 but can't Provide where this goes or why we're behind $500 when we pay every month on time. These people are refusing to transfer our service to another mortgage. They seriously earthly need to be held responsible for something because this is ridiculous.

This collection agency bought our loan from another company last year though we have never paid even one day late. When I asked their CS why they bought our loan and they denied that they are a collection agency yet it says so in their welcome recording on the phone. It has been a year now and they still don't report to credit agencies, so our perfect payments are not reported. I would not have chosen this company and it's unfortunate that they bought our loan.

After 3 months of waiting, with very few updates that were received only after I pushed for information, Esayah asked me to try to find an appraiser myself. Well I did, then I was ghosted by the Esayah for about a week. When he finally reappeared, he said he had an emergency and had no time to setup remotely. The appraisal was finally completed and submitted on a Friday. Esayah emailed that the appraisal was received and was what they expected. It's been several days since then, and I can't get a hold of him again. I have called to complain and got nowhere, all I could do was leave a message and got no call back. I'm very disappointed and dissatisfied with this loan officer and company!!

So, not only do I have to pay online to make a payment but I also have to do a stop pay because Carrington will also cash the check even if I pay online. I'm getting screwed because these animals won't cash my check. Who does that?

They tried charging us an extra $7,500 in fees compared to other lenders. Their process was not transparent - using "non-refundable" lender credits. Loan estimates were wildly inaccurate. They also had a hard time understanding offers from other companies. Our experience with Tyler was good, he explained the limitations of Carrington's system. The problem is clearly with Carrington's processing, not Tyler.

This "financial institution" legally obtained my loan. The first year they neglected to pay my property taxes. Some time later I was hospitalized and was unable to work for 6 months. I called, and emailed, begged and pleaded but was denied mortgage assistance even though they supposedly have a "Mortgage Asistance Program". They began foreclosure and I got a pay off amount. I had to be bailed out by my parents. I obtained a cashier's check and the next day the amount I owed went up another 500. No real explanation for this. I paid the full amount including the extra 500. I continue to make my payments on time for a over a year, but unknown to me, there was another 400 in fees not included or mentioned in any way during my phone calls and payments. That 400 ballooned into $1200.

I filed a dispute and of course they found no wrong doing. That $1200 was stolen from me. I continue to make on time payments except one week I made my payment 1 day too early and they took it as an additional payment rather than the monthly payment. As soon as I noticed this I called them. They said it would be taken care of, and was being sent to a manager. 4 months later I continue to get late fee notices and am told "It is sitting on a managers desk." I fully believe their plan is to keep ignoring me and hope I forget and just pay them more money. If your bank sells your loan to Carrington, refinance immediately! THIS COMPANY NEEDS TO BE SUED OUT OF EXISTENCE.

We have (unfortunately) been customers of Carrington for 6 years, for a rental property that we have. And everytime we have to have any communication with them, it's nothing but frustration. Customer service is literally the worst I've ever had to deal with. Avoid this company at all costs. They still require SNAIL MAIL AND FAX for communication and documentation. In 2021, in COVID times, you have to request by phone and then WAIT 3 days or more for documents to be mailed to you if you don't have a freaking fax machine (like normal people, who use email and online portals). It's like stepping back in time to 1995.

This last time when I was informed that I had to wait 3 days for them to put said document in the mail, even though I'm on a serious time crunch, the rep was unapologetic and rude, made no effort to help speed things along or find another solution. Which is their way. They don't give a flying crap about their customers. We'll be leaving Carrington soon, just to rid ourselves of this company, I will gladly pay a higher interest rate somewhere else.

I did not select this mortgage company. My mortgage loan was sold from Chase Bank. I have been on a automatic payment withdrawal for the life of this loan, over 11 years. I also pay an extra payment each month. I updated my account to have more withdrawn to pay off this loan even faster. As a result of making a change the automatic payment skipped a month, unbeknownst to me. I find out through American Express credit monitoring service. That Carrington has reported a missing payment. I call Carrington and the lack of professionalism and knowledge is just flooring. They tell me I have a credit because off my extra payment, but I also have a missing payment. What logic does that make? When I increased the automatic payment there is no notification that tells you to make a payment incase the payment skips... the worse part is I asked about being notified. Why didn't anyone call me.

The rep said, "The computer called you twice but you didn't answer." I ask why there was not voicemail and the rep says, "We don't leave a voicemail .." So am I suppose to know whose number is calling me unknown??? I know that every company has its pros and cons but this company is just horrific to deal with.. As a consumer who has paid their mortgage in an accelerated fashion it's kind boggling to me. There are people who have missed payments and there was no reporting to the credit agency. I have an error 1 time in 11 years and look at the mess. I am now searching to refinance with another company as I don't want to give Carrington anything extra!!!! If you have a choice there are too many great companies to choose from. Stay away from this one!!!! However if you are okay with Mediocrity and No customer Service, Go with Carrington.

My mortgage was Carrington by Chase in middle of a deferment. They refused to honor agreement with chase that skipped payments were just added to end of term. Basically repayment paused and restart like those 6 months never happened. Hired an attorney, had to give authorization to speak to my legal counsel multiple times as they are inept in keeping records or simply unable to read. I ended up paying 11 months of payments at one time to avoid their asinine and utterly ridiculous loan modification. They were wanting nearly 5k of my equity (increase loans by approx 5k) and to add 30+ months to my loan term to make up for 6 deferred payments at that time.

It took 4 months to get info to attorney to be verified to make sure my current balance they claimed was correct. Now they are trying to foreclose over 2 skipped payments even though I have a USDA rural development loan and still covered by cares act. You see the name carrington or any of their dozens of other dba names run, run, run. They are unscrupulous, immoral, unethical. Their employees have little ability to comprehend. Unfortunately, I recently fell for this ongoing hype about being able to refinance my mortgage for a second time with Carrington Mortgage Services, LLC. My attempt to go through this whole ordeal just turned out to be a very big disappointment which played heavily upon my emotions. In hindsight, this was, indeed, a total waste of my valuable time, effort, energy, and money. I truly did think, before engaging myself in this process, that a second refinance with Carrington could have happened because all three of my credit scores were excellent; I have never missed a payment since the beginning of my account with Carrington in 2012; all of my mortgage payments have been paid in full and on-time. Carrington just previously refinanced my mortgage in 2017 and since then, I've been steadily making home improvements.

After all requested documents were submitted and checked, I was told, on March 22, 2021, by my assigned Carrington Sr. Loan Officer (Mary from Arizona) that I could now lower my interest to 2.85% and take three and one-half years off of my current loan period. I told her I didn’t want any cash out and that I wanted to use my chosen title company from my previous 2017 Carrington refinance. Mary eventually told me that the additional closing costs would be $4,000 and that although the standard time for closing is 30-45 days, she would try to get this done much quicker if possible.

I was then told that an appraisal was necessary and that someone would call me to set this up. The appraiser (Lawrence from Chicago) did call and we set an appointment for March 25, 2021. Lawrence was 15 minutes late. He took exactly 21 minutes to do this appraisal. As he performed his quick stroll through my house and property, I did point out my most recent home improvements including: new roofing and gutters on both the house and garage; painting of doors and trim on house and garage, new basement ceiling, furnace, water heater, and a current in-progress, front and back, yard and shrubbery update project. This appraisal cost me out-of-pocket $505.00.

On March 27, 2021, I received from Carrington, in the mail, my first Payoff Statement which I felt was incorrect with its inclusion of charges for interest, late fee, PMI, etc. When I made inquiry about these charges, I was told that because there was no set time as to when my closing might be, then these charges were being included just in case they were needed. Since this became of concern to me, I went ahead and made two payments, instead of just one, on my current account to counteract the possibility of my being late or behind on any amounts that could, for some reason or another, become due before the closing. I then received several Payoff Statements all with different figures and total amounts.

On March 30, 2021, I got a congratulatory email letting me know that my home loan process was progressing to its final stages with just a few more steps before the preparation of my loan documents for signing. I was told that Mary would be contacting me as soon as she received final approval to close. In the meantime, I was to complete Carrington’s My Loan Detail Certification prior to closing. On March 31, 2021, I reported to Mary that I could not access My Loan Detail Certification. I also informed her of the increasing number of various Payoff Statements. Her email response, on April 1, 2021, was that my loan would be updated as necessary. On April 8, 2021, I received three Payoff Statements, all with different figures and totals. I emailed Mary on April 13, 2021 asking for clarity of this issue and for the date of my closing.

On April 13, 2021, Mary called. During our conversation she mentioned that she was waiting for the appraisal which I told her was already posted online. She asked had I reviewed it and I told her I had and that I thought the appraiser’s opinion wasn’t right. She told me she would call me back once she had reviewed it. On April 14, 2021, I was in a meeting and couldn’t take a call from Mary. I left voice messages/emails for her April 14-15, 2021. I received, during the late afternoon of April 15, 2021, an email from Mary stating that she would be out of the office until April 20, 2021. In regards to another pending business matter I had, I emailed Mary on April 16, 2021 to let her know that it was imperative that she let me know the status of my loan application before April 20, 2021. In response, on April 16, 2021, Mary emailed me:

    Hello Debrah,

Sorry our phones are down and I’m out of office. I reviewed your loan with management and unfortunately there is nothing we can do about the low appraisal value. This is not a subjective Carrington decision. We have to use third party independent companies to determine value. I wish this worked out for you. Please let me know if you have more questions.

    Mary

My inquiry that followed: "So, does this mean that Carrington is not going to do the refinance?" Mary’s last email to me on April 16, 2021: "Debrah we can’t do a refinance with the value coming in higher than what you owe. I’m sorry. But the loan is denied." **** As I said earlier, this whole matter of my trying to again refinance my Carrington mortgage really turned out to be a real disappointment which played heavily upon my emotions. Overall speaking, this whole ordeal truly ended up being an absolute total waste of a lot of my valuable time, effort, energy, and money.

From start to finish both Ben ** (loan officer) Debra ** (loan processor) were very responsive, pleasant and helpful. Anytime I had a question it was answered right away usually within an hour or two, but never longer than a day even over the weekend. Ben was really clear on what was needed and walked me through the process. The online submission system worked really well and was easy to use. Carrington was very cost competitive and ended up saving me quite a bit over the other two other loan quotes I got. I would definitely recommend both Ben and Debra personally as well as Carrington.

My mortgage was sold by Chase to Carrington Mortgage.... a few months before my HUD PMI should have been dropped. I contacted Carrington, in writing, to ensure that they were going to remove my PMI in November, 2020. Yes, they would be doing that. Well, they didn't. When I called I was told that my escrow was short $700. When I asked to explain to me why, since I hadn't received any notice of that, and I've never been short in escrow, the customer service rep. hung up on me. Long story short, I talked to 5 people, and was told I'd have to wait until January for them to do an analysis of my mortgage and they would determine at that time if my PMI would be dropped. My mortgage is lower than was is required by HUD. I received different information from all 5 customer reps I talked to. I am filing a complaint, but I'm sure that will go nowhere! What a joke of a company.

This experience can best be described as what NOT to do, an epic disappointment. The only positive I can find is that the people I spoke with were friendly. The beginning was fine. I had purchased this home July 2019 with Carrington as the mortgage carrier. Many companies were contacting me about refinancing and one day Carrington reached out and my interest happened to be piqued.

When I first spoke with the loan originator, it sounded so easy, so pain-free, so quick, so streamlined. Carrington already had the original mortgage. What could possibly go wrong? I had told them I didn’t want to come out of pocket for anything. Somehow, a new appraisal was required for the tune of $550. After a year, I have no idea why this couldn’t be waived, yet I acquiesced.

Moving forward. In this super easy streamlined refinance, I wasn’t required to provide bank statements, just the normal pay stubs and two years of taxes and W-2’s. I sent them away and soon, the under-writer chimes in requiring a copy of my divorce decree. Already this is interesting since there is no discernable way to tell I was I ever married. The taxes are all under my name as single and the children are listed with me. Offended doesn’t even begin to describe my feelings. I have no idea why my being married or not matters.

Of course, I ask the originator why and am told the under-writer wants to know the dates of the marriage and to see if I’m receiving child support or alimony. I tell the originator I feel the under-writer needs to be educated because 1) if I were currently married I couldn’t file taxes single 2) alimony has to be reported on taxes 3) it doesn’t matter if I’m married; he isn’t on the loan. Time passes and I think of even more reasons this is ridiculous. I find myself now under magically communicating with the loan processor. I have no idea how I’ve ended up here and have to ask her why I have her now.

Now that I have a new person, I go through my aforementioned frustration of the divorce decree along with my additional reasons of why this shouldn’t be required, namely 1) it wouldn’t matter if I received child support 2) it wouldn’t matter if I received alimony, I requested the loan be processed based on the income I provided, which would be my salary.

Now, the story changes and I am told the under-writer has requested this information to see if I am responsible for paying child support or alimony. Granted, this does make more sense. However, I would have disclosed this on my list of expenses. The loan processor tells me I’m lucky the under-writer accepted the decree in the manner I had furnished it because I had blacked out the names of the attorneys, as well as my ex-husband. I can assure you, one needs to know my ex’s name, nor the attorneys present.

On another note, I was not required to provide this very personal document the first time the company processed the loan. The rules for the under-writers should be the same. As far as I can tell, this is an under-writer on some power trip who is gathering unnecessary documentation because he has the “power” to do so, at a great cost to me.

The under-writer continues to puppet the process and now demands contact information for my previous employer since I changed jobs last June. Again, information the company had when they first processed the loan. Apparently, the tax returns and W-2’s were insufficient for him to make a logical conclusion. I was able to provide my hire letter and exit interview, showing my dates of employment.

Finally, the closing date is set. I am relieved. I have had enough anger, embarrassment, and shed enough tears by now. The day has finally come, and I will be free, or so I thought. The CD is in, the witness is present, the attorney is present. All the papers get signed and everyone is happy. I’m getting money back and that’s always nice. The closing was on Wednesday, 14 October 2020. On 15 October 2020, my account is debited for the original mortgage. Here we go again. How bizarre, I think. This should have been completed at closing, when the house was paid off. I figure Carrington will catch it right away and refund the money. No.

The following Tuesday, a check arrives. It isn’t for the full amount of what I’m to get back, but I think to myself, well this must be because I make bi-weekly payments. The other check is sure to follow. Wrong again. On 21 October 2020, a week after closing, I receive an email from Carrington. It’s a revised CD. No explanation, except it’s revised and to retain for my records. I notice that my payment amount has increased and the money I was to be getting back has changed. It’s now for the check I received the day before.

This can’t be right, a CD can’t change once the house has closed, can it? I start to research, then I call a friend I have in real estate to confirm my research, and then finally the attorney. No, the CD can’t change. The attorney says if Carrington made a mistake, it’s up to them to fix it. I have signed documents; they’re notarized. How can I be held to something I didn’t agree to?

I contact the loan processor, who was equally surprised. She agrees the CD can’t change and doesn’t know what to do. After some research, she finds I should have only received the amount of the check. The CD was wrong, but the attorney is right, it can’t change, but she doesn’t know what to do. She’ll call back. She doesn’t. I follow up the next day with an email and ask about the erroneous payment. I end up getting a back from the originator. A mistake was made. It’s Carrington’s fault. The long and short is I have no recourse, except through litigation. I’m thinking, surely the company could refund the cost of the appraisal, something to make this right.

The originator says he can expedite getting the escrow from the original loan back to me. I must explain how this is not in my favor. Calculator in hand, I walk him through the numbers and explain that he needs to transfer those funds into the new loan, so my escrow doesn’t wind up short. I won’t go into the antagonizing detail of those conversations. The erroneous payment? I should instruct the bank to cancel the ACH payments. Again, not a smart move since my mortgage won’t get paid at all. Carrington needs to handle that on their end with the independent loan numbers. I hear it’s being handled. The next day, he realizes the payment was erroneous and sometime, I’ll get that money back.

As of now, almost two weeks after closing, an escrow analysis is still occurring and I’ll hear back soon, and I am assured that the payment will be lower and at that point I’ll have another revised CD. Being that I am not in the mortgage industry, I look to them for guidance and advice. Certainly, there are things I am not aware of. However, I don’t feel like I should shoulder the responsibility of providing information about escrow payments and transfers, payments, and CDs. The rules for underwriters should be the same.

A month later, I receive refund check for the escrow, despite the fact that I specifically it be transferred to the new loan. I also learn that the erroneous payment has somehow found its way into the escrow, no notice to me, and I won't be getting that money back. I'm still trying to figure out how $2,100 + $860 = $2,200, but with Carrington math, I don't think I'm getting very far. Now, they tell me I have to cash the check so I can transfer the money back to escrow. Another surprise is waiting for me. In order for me to do this online to ensure it goes to escrow, they charge me a convenience fee. Anywhere else would be better than Carrington. They lost my confidence, my trust, and my money.

I was speaking to a loan officer out of the Anaheim office regarding a mortgage refi. I have 780+ credit score, and no accent when speaking English, so the conversation was fine for the first 15-20 minutes. The second that he found out that I am not an American citizen, he changed from a loan officer who wants new business to someone with zero interest to even continue the phone call. I asked him if he would check if and how we could proceed with the mortgage refi or shall I investigate it myself. He said "I will just say no to you right now".

Out of confusion, I called 2 other lenders just to double check whether it is the true that I can not refi with my work visa status, the answer is no problem. Finally, I called Carrington general number back and got routed to a gentlemen in the Phoenix office to ask the same question, and he said should not be an issue either, and kindly offered to check for me and let me know tomorrow.

This simply saddens me... You can make your own judgements of this person's behavior. Also, please check Carrington Mortgage Services on Glassdoor, turns out that former employees felt racism from within Carrington as well. We bought our home in 2008. At the time, we had secured our mortgage through Taylor, Bean & Whitaker out of Ocala, Florida. A little over a year after purchasing our home, TB&W was raided by the FBI and shut down for being involved in a massive mortgage fraud scheme and their CEO was sent to federal prison for 30 years (although I recently learned that he was just released). The servicing of our mortgage was then transferred to Bank of America in August of 2009. We were with BOA for 5 years and never had a single issue with our mortgage (other than one misplaced payment in 2013, which was immediately corrected upon filing a complaint), but other than that, we never had any issues or problems whatsoever.

However, that all changed in the summer/fall of 2014, when our loan was sold to the thieving crooks at Carrington Mortgage Services. From there, it ALL went down hill. Upon taking over the servicing of our mortgage, Carrington tried to claim that we were 3 payments behind with a fourth one coming due. This was absolutely NOT true. We were 100% current on our payments at the time we were transferred to them. We even sent them proof of ALL of our payments going back an entire year to Bank of America to prove that we hadn't missed a single one. Once we finally got that resolved, then they suddenly claimed that there was some $4000 shortage in our escrow account and that we would need to pay them that $4000 right away in order to satisfy the account. Again, more lies!!!!

We had NEVER had ANY problems with our escrow account EVER and had NEVER been told that there was a shortage of funds! We had to report them to our state's Attorney General's office as a result of this. Then, they tried to claim that we did not have homeowner's insurance and that they were going to force their lender-placed insurance on our account, which would have cost us a fortune. More lies!!! We DID have a full insurance policy through Liberty Mutual, which we sent them proof of MULTIPLE TIMES.

To add insult to injury, a few weeks prior to them fabricating this claim that we had no insurance, THEY had sent Liberty Mutual full payment for our annual policy renewal! They had literally paid for our policy in full via our escrow and they proceeded to tell us that we didn't have insurance so they could try and soak us for even more money by charging us for their own force-placed lender insurance! Again, the Attorney General had to get involved on this one as well.

In 2015, we had a large insurance claim due to water damage to our home. We basically had almost the entire interior remodeled and got a new roof in this claim. Carrington required us to send the checks from our insurance company to them to hold onto (more like collect interest on) until the work on our home was done. Well, once the work was done in the fall of 2015, they REFUSED to release our insurance money so that we could pay our contractor. They told us that they would need to schedule an "inspector" to come to our home to check the work of our contractors to make sure it was "satisfactory" before they would release the funds to us. Whatever.

We scheduled this alleged "inspector" 3 different times and NO ONE EVER SHOWED UP any of the times they were scheduled for. Big surprise there. Again, the Attorney General's office became involved and we eventually got our money, after nearly being sued by our contractor for nonpayment, all because Carrington wanted to hold onto our insurance money for as long as their grubby little hands could to collect the most interest from it.

Then, in 2017, for the very first time ever since purchasing our home in 2008, we fell behind on our payments due to my husband suffering a heart attack and being out of work for several months. We were told that we were eligible to receive a loan modification, so they sent us all of the paperwork, which we promptly returned to them, along with all of the requested supporting documentation. That was the beginning of the nightmare that would change our lives forever. We went back and forth with these crooks sending them the same documentation over and over again because they would repeatedly claim that they either never received our documents or that they needed updated ones. They did nothing but stonewall us throughout the entire process of trying to obtain the loan modification that we WERE eligible to receive and that we deserved.

In the spring of 2018, we were served with a foreclosure notice by a civil process server. We were totally blown away. We had been assured that NO foreclosure action would be taken at all while we were working with them towards a loan modification workout, because that would be considered dual-tracking, which is illegal, but, being Carrington, they think the laws and rules don't apply to them and they did it anyway.

We continued working with these crooks and they continued to repeatedly request the same documents over and over again from us. We actually enlisted the help of a housing counselor to help us work with Carrington because we were getting absolutely nowhere with them and were just going around in endless circles with sending the same documents over and over, but he ended up being completely useless and didn't do anything that we couldn't have done on our own.

In late September of 2019, the housing counselor contacted Carrington to check on the status of our modification application (which we had been told a few weeks earlier was in underwriting), only to be told that they had foreclosed back in April of 2019 and then bought our home themselves at auction. Carrington literally dealt our house to themselves without us even knowing. For 5 months AFTER they foreclosed and self-dealt themselves our home, they continued to request documentation for our modification application when they FULL WELL KNEW that they had already foreclosed and bought our home themselves at auction.

They had told us MULTIPLE times that we could "IGNORE" (yes, they used that exact word, ignore) any foreclosure documentation that we received because "nothing would happen while being reviewed for a modification." Long story short, we ended up suing them in federal court on our own without the help of an attorney, because no attorney would touch our case due to how complex it was, and we contacted at least a dozen of them in our state. Carrington did not even have the LEGAL STANDING to foreclose on our home. THEY DID NOT OWN OUR MORTGAGE and NOBODY KNEW WHO DID OWN IT!!!!

Being that our loan was a Taylor, Bean & Whitaker origination, it was impossible to track down who truly owned the rights to our mortgage and who would have legal standing to foreclose, but it sure as hell wasn't Carrington, that we knew for certain! They did not even produce the signed promissory note in court that I signed at closing in 2008 when we bought our home to prove that they even held the original note, so how they were able to foreclose is totally beyond me. When I demanded Carrington's attorneys to produce the promissory note with my signature on it to prove that they actually were in possession of it, after weeks of stalling, their attorney finally emailed me a note with my FORGED signature in blue ink on it, and you could easily tell that it was FRESH blue ink.

I signed the promissory note at closing nearly 13 years ago and I signed it in BLACK ink (which I have proof of as I have the original). They even did a terrible job forging my signature. It wasn't even close to mine! This lawsuit dragged on for months and we probably could have won big time if the stress of it didn't kill us first, but we finally agreed to settle and let them have our home. We just had no fight left in us and it wasn't worth our health or sanity. Their attorneys from the firm of Ackerman, LLC out of Los Angeles are NASTY criminals (just as bad as their client) and we were sick to death of dealing with them. The extreme stress of the situation was about to kill us both. So, we lost our home of nearly 13 years (more like had it stolen).

We received an insultingly small settlement (I'm talking less than $10k), even though we fought and fought for months with all our might for significantly more, but these thieves refused to budge. All of the hard work, time, and money that we had put into our home over the years to make it our own gone, stolen, taken away. All of the memories we made in that house over the years (including getting married in the back yard in the summer of 2009) ripped from our hearts and souls. Luckily, we found the perfect house to rent that welcomed our pets in the neighborhood that I grew up in and we now live across the street from my parents, but our lives were totally turned upside down and we went through absolute hell.

Hell isn't even sufficient to describe the nightmare that the crooks at Carrington Mortgage Services put us through. So, after almost 13 years of being homeowners, we are now renting until we are ready and able to purchase a new home, which hopefully should be within the next year or two. My husband's name was not on the previous mortgage (it was just mine), so thankfully his credit was not affected by this nightmare and we plan to buy a new home under his name in a year or two, but none of this takes away the trauma we experienced and having the place we called home for 13 years stolen right out from underneath us, all because of a medical event in our household that caused us to fall behind on our mortgage payments for the first time ever and Carrington was clearly scheming the entire time to dual-track us right into foreclosure behind our backs while they pretended to want to help us.

Please, if your mortgage is EVER sold to these criminals, get out as fast as possible! They WILL find a way to steal your home! That is what they are in the business of and they will screw you in every which way until they are able to do so. Like I said, we NEVER had a single problem with our mortgage until these people got their grubby hands on it. Refinance, sell your house, pay it off....do WHATEVER it takes to get away from these people if you end up with them!!!! I am waiting for the day when they are shut down like Taylor, Bean & Whitaker was and they are finally forced to face the music for what they have done to so many innocent, unsuspecting homeowners all over the United States.

Like most people, we didn’t choose Carrington. Our loan was sold to them from B of A. That was 7 years ago and it’s been a gradual downhill slide the entire time. However, we’ve been in a constant dispute since April of this year. It’s now the end of September and the battle continues. The reason for the dispute - they conducted an escrow analysis in August of last year. We had set our automatic payment up 3 years ago through our bank vs using their system which charges 10-20.00 fees for every payment.

Up until last year our automatic payments where 150.00 over what the mortgage was. Then the escrow analysis changed our mortgage and they failed to inform us. In October of 2019 it went into effect, taking our mortgage from 810/ month to 987. Mind you we’d been paying 960.00 for the past 3 years. We hadn’t gotten a billing statement from them in over a year, nor the escrow analysis, yet we’d get tax statements from them.

This is where it gets even more fishy. May 11th I contact Carrington via phone to inquire about our May 1st payment still not being processed. Keep in mind our bank sends out the automatic payment a week in advance. They stated because the 1st had fallen on a Friday that it most likely got delayed in processing but we didn’t have anything to worry about. By that next Friday it finally posted, however when we logged into the website, it stated we still owed May’s payment. I called them to inquire about it and they state - it’s not a mistake, that we still owed for May and that the payment that was just cashed covered April. I stated that that’s impossible and that I have proof that we never missed a payment, by both my bank statements and their own payment history.

Then, the lady on the other end states “Sir, when you signed your loan agreement with Carrington you understood you have to make the full payment every month”. At this point I stopped being polite. As I corrected her that we never signed with Carrington and that our loan was sold to them. Then proceeded to state we were never late. Their reply was that we should have been looking at our billing statements, and it’s not their fault we didn’t know of the mortgage increase. After approximately 10 subsequent calls, we got to the bottom of everything. They had been sending our billing statements and escrow analysis to an old address in Colorado. Yet we got our tax statements to our home. (We moved to Colorado for 2 years and had rented out our home). They said we failed to inform that department of our address change and therefore it’s our fault.

Mind you we had to inform Carrington of the move back when we CHANGED THE POLICY back to regular homeowners insurance vs Tenant. How is it they can send one part of their mail but not the other? But it gets better. They stated they tried to reach us by phone as well.. They called a number that has not been in use for 10 years (my mother in-laws home number) which was used by B of A when we secured the home loan in 2010. Our contact numbers have not changed in 8 years (when we call Carrington - both numbers are “recognized numbers for our account”).

To sum it up - they refuse to remove the 30 day late payment from our credit report, therefore the dispute keeps going back and forth. But - although illegal to post an updated report until the dispute is settled, they again posted July as 30 days late. However, not even a bit of confusion on this, we have been paying 1,000/ month since May and have not missed a payment. By the way - the part of the company that supplies credit reports with the information cannot be reached by any means other than fax or mail. No phone number, no email, nothing and it takes them upwards of 35 days to reply. Run, don’t walk. Stay far far away.

Our mortgage was sold about 6 years ago to them from Chase, it was okay in the beginning, but lately it is a mess, we always pay on time (even though they posted one of our payments as 30 day late, after 20 phone calls to get this changed we just gave up)...Anyway when my husband deployed we did a SCRA and locked our mortgage rate in to 4% ... It took Carrington 2 years to adjust the payment and then put the overage we paid into a suspense account instead of applying it to our payment which still has not been done, but it gets better.

We also unwillingly overpay our mortgage by over 100$ each month now for over a year as their website will not update the new payment due, and we only can pay the regular amount due, we called multiple times and were told they had send us letters explaining... which is a lie because we don’t even get mortgage statements from them, and don’t try to have them as online statements because it does not post on their website at all. I called multiple times now and the lady said for each curtailment it takes about a month to update on the customers' website...So what my mortgage will be updated in 24-26 month?? It’s insane and they should not be allowed to service any government backed loans tbh.

From there that new person sends an email to another department to actually do what you need done but it will take 3-5 business days to complete. They will not send you an email confirmation that what you wanted was done or a conformation number showing you called. All you can do is wait and hope they do what you asked.

Their online system is bad, you can set up automatic payments but cannot cancel them online, no you have to call them. (Don't bother calling an hour before they say they close because it will be too late and they will be closed.) They won't cancel it right away. That will take at least 3 business days to do and again no confirmation that it was done or will be sent to you. Wish I could give zero stars. Stay far away and if your loan gets sold to them refinance with a different company like your life depended on it asap. Like many others report, our mortgage was unwillingly sold to Carrington by Chase. Even worse, the transfer was done while my spouse was deployed. The mortgage is in his name only, and I am unable to secure a POA from him with the new account information. This caused us to be more than a month late with our mortgage payments during a time when prices of goods and services were skyrocketing due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

I have finally been made an authorized user on the account but am unable to make changes so I cannot work with them to make payment arrangements to get the mortgage caught up. Furthermore, to force customers to pay a fee to pay their bill, just to assure themselves that the bill is paid on time is insane. Someone should be looking into this. Consumers need more protections from predatory lenders, not the other way around!

Similar to others, my home mortgage was transferred to this company from Chase. I would have not selected them. First, you have pay a fee to just pay your mortgage on time. The representative use the same justification or excuse for their fees. They did not send any coupons and they are trying to transfer their cost to us. My HUD insurance was due to fall off and the representative told me that I have to wait another 12 months after they conducted my escrow analysis. My escrow analysis was just conducted by Chase prior to the transfer. So I have to contact HUD and I will definitely refinance with my credit union. They are a joke and considering what the world and our country are going through, we have to deal with a company with no ethics.

I'm a structural engineer. Carrington Mortgage Services hired me to a structural inspection on a property for which they were making a mortgage loan, then never paid me. They have given repeated stories about the check in the mail, but no payment after 4 months. I guess they think they are immune to small claim court because of their incredible shell company structure. Their business license lists another corporation as their "registered agent", meaning there is no identifiable human being responsible for their bad faith actions. Don't do business with this company. They may act nice and polite in correspondence, but they are vicious liars acting in bad faith under a deliberately orchestrated corrupt business organization.

I started the process of a refinance through Carrington 3 months ago. I submitted all my documentation and finished everything they asked within one day. My loan officer was responsive for the first couple of days and then disappeared for nearly three weeks. I needed to contact management at the bank just to get a new loan officer and underwriter assigned to my account as both had then disappeared and apparently left the company with no one picking up my loan, so it just sat. By the time we were back to moving forward it had been 4 weeks from the application. At this point they requested all the documentation again as if I was starting from scratch. At this point Corona had started, and everything slowed down. I eventually lost my lock because they took 90 days and still couldn't get this done. They were my loan holder and the refinancier so this should have been an open and shut case.

I lost what I paid for the appraisal that did not get used, and lost out on working with a bank who was actually responsive. Carrington keeps blaming this on Corona, however if they had just managed my application from the beginning we would have been finished prior to anything happening in the country. I checked and have over 70 outgoing emails to them, almost none were responded to, they are unprofessional, non-responsive, irresponsible, and you should avoid them at all costs. A great rate on paper means nothing if they won't actually close your loan. Look elsewhere.

Carrington is by far the worst company I have ever had to deal with. Do not think for a minute that you will be able to stay ahead of your mortgage payments with this company. There is ALWAYS a discrepancy about my payments. They can't tell me where fees have come from and what they are for. Phone calls and hold times are always 50+ minutes followed by being hung up on. I have been calling for the past 2 months and have had to tell the same story over and over again, and I get different responses. A manager Elmer was supposed to call me to resolve my issue, I have heard nothing.

Story: My spouse "was told" in January that we could make partial payments towards the mortgage, something that we were doing at our previous mortgage company and our preference. Fast forward to March and we are told that Carrington does not accept partial payments. Folks, trust them when they say don't do it, they will make your life a living hell if you make a partial payment. On 2/4 we made a payment totaling half of our mortgage, over the next 2 weeks we sent in payments totaling the rest. By 02/14 we had made the entire payment.

On 2/18 we were assessed 2 fees (nobody knows what they are for). Also on 2/18 all of the money we paid towards the mortgage was moved to another account because they didn't know what to do with the money. Why they didn't know what to do with our exact mortgage payment is beyond stupid but okay. (PS they took our first payment of half of our mortgage and applied it to January, which was already paid in full). Soooo, our February payment is now late, but we are stupidly living our lives thinking we are ahead. We send in payments towards March because we are under the impression that February has been paid. The first two payments we sent in March were held in the magical account they have, the next payment was put into a suspended funds account, the last payment made on 3/13 wasn't applied to 3/18.

This is when the messages about late payments start to come in, so I call because I am confused about all this money we have been sending that isn't accounted for. Long story short, they surely punished us for sending in partial payments by adding fees and REFUSING to go back and apply the funds correctly. At this point, we have made 2 full mortgage payments are all still behind because of the way they applied our money. I won't go any further because I can publish a book on how terrible they are. All I will say is RUN as fast as you can away from them.

Updated on 04/04/2020: In a previous review, I explained that, due to their own error, when my mortgage loan was involuntarily transferred to Carrington (and I would NEVER willingly choose them!), they tried to force place homeowner's insurance, even though I had been covered by State Farm for 7 years. My agent's assistant, who is a saint, got it straightened out, although she mentioned that they were "rude and snippy".

They also demanded insurance in the full amount remaining on the loan, although my home is a condo and I cover only the interior. Just to keep them off my back, and because the premium increase was reasonable, I did increase the insurance amount for the interior. I thought we were done. Oh, no. Not with this company. When I next checked my on-line account, my insurance information was listed two ways: as not paid from escrow, and as paid from escrow. More phone calls, more waits on hold, to get be assured that yes, as it has always been, my FHA loan's insurance is paid from escrow. (I do not trust them. When the policy renews in December, I will be prepared to pay the premium myself!)

Because my home is a condominium, I have now received another letter from them, stating that I must provide the declarations page of the Association's fire insurance coverage of the building exterior. BUT...when I provided to them all the proof that I was, indeed, covered by State Farm, I also provided the name, e-mail, and phone number of our Association President, so that they could obtain proof of coverage of the exterior of the building. That information was provided to them on March 18. The letter demanding more proof, which I received yesterday, April 2, is dated March 27.

So now, IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC, IN SELF-ISOLATION AND GOVERNOR-ORDERED LOCKDOWN OF THE STATE OF INDIANA, and not knowing if I can even contact our association president, much less the condo insurance company (the name of which I don't even know), I'm trying to track down for them information which they could have obtained themselves 9 days ago from the information I provided. The only good thing I have to say about this debacle is that when I called, and spoke to an agent named (I think) Danielle, on an absolutely terrible connection, she was understanding and said she would mark the file that I had contacted them and would provide the requested proof of fire insurance for the exterior "eventually". I say again, avoid Carrington Mortgage at all costs, and if your loan is sold to them, find another company and refinance, immediately!

Original Review: My mortgage was transferred to Carrington Mortgage Services from Chase Bank effective 03/01/20. Only 18 days later, they are trying to forceplace homeowners insurance on my already-insured home. When I checked the website, I found that they had listed me as having an unpaid policy with Travellers insurance. They claim this is the information they received from Chase Bank--an outright lie, since Chase PAID MY HOMEOWNER'S INSURANCE FROM ESCROW on January 1, 2020. Now, in the middle of the coronavirus epidemic, I'm told to go out and find a fax machine somewhere to fax them proof that I am covered. I had read hundreds of negative reviews about Carrington and seen numerous lawsuits against them for forceplace insurance, so I was, most unfortunately, expecting this. 18 days, though--only 18 days! If I could give them fewer than one star, I would do so.

It seems like Carrington is in the business of purchasing home loans and then putting its new customers on the hook for making payments. I was recently transferred from Chase, like many others here, and have encountered nothing but problems in trying to make a simple payment. All options include a "convenience fee" to process, save setting up an auto-pay. The explanation I was given was, because they are not a bank they use 3rd party services to authorize payments. It is the year 2020. In this digital age of consumerism and for a company that makes profit in interest from high-dollar and long-standing loans, it is unacceptable to hold your customers hostage for these fees- especially when they did not have a choice in becoming your customers in the first place.

When a complaint is lodged, it must be done via fax or snail mail, as it seems like this entire company- formed in 2007- is stuck in the '90s. There is no email correspondence option, internet chat is barely available, and even the phone hotline isn't 24/7. If a representative is reached, they are helpful, but largely powerless to address real concerns or affect any kind of change. This is a systemic problem likely originating from the unscrupulous people at the top. If I had a choice, I certainly would not be doing any business with them.

Carrington Mortgage Services is a company I deal with, not out of choice, but because they bought my mortgage. I feel they never miss an opportunity to gouge me with exorbitant fines. And they are very clever the way they do it. Here is my latest example of why I'd rather be at the dentist getting a root canal than dealing with Carrington.

There was an increase in my escrow which increased my mortgage payment by some $31. Carrington decided to send me a TEXT message advising me about this. I get dozens of notifications from Carrington about refinancing, paid payments, etc. So, fully MY fault, I probably deleted the text without examining it carefully. However, typically, matters of import come as letters in the mail.

Everyday I am anxious to clean up my phone of some 50-60 unwanted messages and offers. I had never seen an escrow increase before and probably would have quickly dismissed any Carrington text as being redundant to all the online matters associated with them. It was the casual nature of using a text that I will continue to object to. This, in my opinion, should be a LETTER with big bold print announcing an escrow increase. Why? I'll tell you. First of all, it's important. It should LOOK important, not one of their run-of-the-mill queries. A TEXT for this I would consider to be on par with running into a theater and WHISPERING "fire." Not the right way to do it. Not what it deserved. Not the standardized treatment.

So, my mortgage payment increased $31. Not being aware of this, my next payment gets sent in... $31 short. Does Carrington credit my account for approximately $1300? Of course not. I tried not to laugh when they told me it's because they "don't know where to put the money" when it is not the full scheduled payment. Here's a clue, Carrington. Put it on my account. Why don't they? Well consider this...if they put it on my account, then my mortgage payment is only short $31. How do you gouge someone for a late fee if you are constructing that fee based only on the portion not paid? Do you ask borrowers to pay the $31 and 20% extra for a late fee? No, you don't. It's much more lucrative to say, "Oh my, we don't know where to put your payment because it was complete MINUS $31. So, we didn't post ANY of it to your account. Now we will calculate the shortage and late fees based on over $1300."

So, a payment which began as $1275, and a homeowner unaware of a $31 escrow increase, is now asked to submit very close to $175. Certainly I see Carrington laying the blame at my feet because I wasn't more careful in reading the 50 pieces of correspondence on my phone every morning. And it's my fault that Carrington applies ZERO money to my account if the payment is not to the penny of my regular payment.

Ah...to have lived "back in the day." Back when a homeowner with a credit score in the 800s plus, who never missed a payment, would be told to send in $31 for an escrow increase he must have missed. Ah...the good old days. When a payment that didn't match your regular payment was credited to you account and any overage was credited to the next payment, and homeowners were asked to add any shortage to next month's payment. When company slogans on banners, matchbooks, and flyers, mirrored the company's practices. I assure you I accept my part in this heavy fine for being short $31. And, I've already sent Carrington their $175. And I've read the reviews which indicate that some people actually like dealing with this company. To each their own.

I've had my say in the matter. And this is not the first pain I've felt dealing with them. No, they don't miss any legal way to pile up the late charges using any technique they can come up with while standing around the water cooler. But I can guarantee they will never again hold a lien on anything I own. Buyer Beware.

I understand escrow can go up but when I had Chase the most they ever told me it was short was $20. Carrington is stating it is short $440! And are going to raise my monthly payment by over $60 a month! How is it that short when they said it was short last year and it went up and now they say it is even more short now?

They sent a letter stating by law they are allowed to require you to keep a minimum of 1/6 of the total escrow at all times and mine fell under that number by $84 although there is still money in there and it is more than enough to make the payment. I now have a 2nd home loan with Chase and I pray they never sell it to this rip off of a company. And that's the major component in increase to my monthly payment.

Only question I asked her that how can they charge anything to my account without making me aware, I did not get any statements of negative Escrow amount and I was paying same $807 over the years, today all of a sudden they are telling me that I owe them $1,400 for some "forced home insurance" that they put on my escrow account since April 2019. They have tried to force place homeowner's insurance when I already had homeowner's insurance in place, falsified documents pertaining to be the owners of the loan, tried to foreclosure on my property claiming one mortgage payment was missing Of $860.00 when they were holding a $966.30 refund but refused to apply it to the so called missing payment and as to this day I have never gotten the $966.30 refund.

It seems to have vanished into thin air without a trace. This company has violated so many RESPA guidelines and no one seem to be able to do anything about them committing these violation which is just unbelievable. The same organizations that claim to be for the consumers and encourage you to file complaints against companies like this does nothing on the consumer's behalf but stick up for the creditor by looking the other way because they pad their pockets to look the other way, while the consumers go thru hell trying to prove they did nothing wrong. I have been going back and forth with this company for 6 years now but that's okay. I'm looking for an attorney to sue this company. This is the worst mortgage servicing company ever. If at all possible beware of these crooks. All they do is steal, lie and cheat. They do not care what harm is done to you in the process, so again I say beware of these crooks.

My loan was originally through Bank of America and sold to Carrington Mortgage Services. First, they lost 5 almost 6 months worth of my payments and had my home in foreclosure status 5 years ago. They sent a representative every few weeks and charge a fee each time they came. Now, I got sick and communicated with them often. They still sent a representative, charge me for their travel, sent several certified letters and letters through the mail and I'm just 30 days past due. This is harrassment. I called to complain and the customer service representative tells me this is what happens when I take out a loan. I said excuse me? I didn't choose this company. She was very ghetto and unprofessional. I hate this company and can't wait to refinance just to deal with another company.

Then the processor tells me they are playing around with the loan amount and instead of it being a rate and term where I don't need to bring in money they want me to bring in $180K! It went on and on for over a month and then they call me one day and say we can't do the loan unless it's 65% Loan To Value. They wasted over two months of my time and didn't have the decency to be honest and upfront. I wouldn't suggest anyone work with them. On top of this their rates are more expensive than any mortgage company.

Not sure where to start with this company. My mortgage was through Bank of America and it was transferred to Carrington. Since then they haven't been reporting any of my payments to any credit bureaus. We have a lot of equity in our home and decided to refinance and take cash out for renovations. I have a high credit score on all three credit sites but they keep quoting a low number that isn't on any of them. Finally get approved and the appraiser comes but I've sent a few emails to our loan officer and have called several times with questions. They don't respond or call back. They have yet to correct the error of reporting payments which they said was "a glitch". We would have gone through Rocket but Carrington offered cheaper interest. I kind of feel like I'm in limbo and I'm starting to regret my decision to refinance.

After contacting the Carrington Advocacy Department, we were able to finally resolve where and from whom the extra payment came from. It took about 5 phone calls and persistence from me to ensure the extra payment was misplaced and some other customer wasn't missing their payment. Customer Service was unable to help, Advocacy Department was able to help, but no one referred them to me. Service could have been better for this matter.

    Original Review: Nov. 26, 2019

For Over a month now I have been calling about an extra payment that exceeds my mortgage was posted to my loan account. First they argued with me, stating I made the extra payment, which I could prove I didn't, then they guessed it was someones else's Mortgage payment posted to my account and that they would review the payment and correct it. A month later still no resolution.

Called them back over concern that they will somehow mess up my account as I continue to send regular scheduled payments. They now claim they can't move the money until someone else complains that their payment is missing and they have no ability to figure out who the money belongs to. I stated, "How about looking at your customers who owe that amount on that date that you have probably already sent late payment notices to, so you can give them back their money that sitting in my loan account." I have even called the Carrington Advocacy Group about this mishandling of Mortgage payments with still no resolution. My other concern expressed is now my end of year Tax Form 1098 is going to be screwed up by Carrington, because of their mishandling of monthly mortgage payments. Sad thing is I'm sure Carrington is probably trying to collect late fees from the individuals whose payment they mishandled.

On October 11th I made an online payment. This payment was the exact amount to pay off the late fees I had and October's payment. I previously was in touch with Carrington multiple times regarding paying off this loan as we are refinancing through another bank. I was told the payment online would be applied to October first and then late fees. Instead the funds were applied to October's payment, November's payment and the leftover applied to the late fees.

I called later that afternoon on October 11 and talked to customer service. They assured me that it would be a maximum of 5 days to correct this. They told me to call back Monday and check. I did that. Told to call again tomorrow or Wednesday. I called Wednesday. No results. I called again Thursday. No results. Called again Friday which is now one week or 5 business days from original payment. I was now told there was an error and the reallocation of funds was denied. I was told the error was how it was written up by the original person looking into this for me. Now I'm told it will be another 5 days. Well, now it's been 5 more days and I asked for a supervisor, she told me it is something that takes 15 business days. No idea why at least 10 other reps told me 5 or less days.

I am waiting now and meanwhile I have had to pay 2 rate lock extension fees for my new loan. I have called Carrington at least 10-15 times over the last 2 weeks to look into this. Sat on hold probably a total of an hour or more, because of their error. I even offered to pay the late fees but was told by supervisor I would have to mail it in to cashiering Dept and request it to go to the late fees. May take 5-7 business days to apply. I am so frustrated and stressed out by this bank's mistake and horrible inaccurate information. I would never recommend anyone do business with them.

Keep in mind that this company is in business by purchasing non performing loans or at least a history of them from other bigger banks. Ours was sold from Bastards of America to these CarelessCarrington operation. They sell it to get it off their rolls. Most banks sell because the loan is holding back stock prices or other financial streams that make the bank more money. Carrington, who is essentially a debt collector buys the loan, who in the hopes that you can't pay your mortgage will eventually foreclose and usually make the bank one hell of a profit. Especially if it's an FHA or government backed loan.

This company, Carrington is in the business of foreclosures. They prey on the people who live paycheck to paycheck in the hopes you'll miss a payment. They will go through the "motions" to make you think they are helping you but they aren't. One missed payment leads to a barrage of mailings and calls, along with people at your door with no ID and your personal information thrown about haphazardly for anyone to get. They don't care. They operate just within the boundaries of the law and they know it.

We live, like most, primarily paycheck to paycheck with a few extra bucks in the bank. We missed a payment due to a direct deposit issue and new account opening. We called to explain and understood we would have additional fees but there was nothing we could do. They seemed to understand and ok with it. We paid the amount due when we could but it was towards the end of the month with the new payment close on the heels. When we didn't pay the next payment by the 1st (mind you we have a grace period) the mailing and calls started everyday, all day. It finally culminated with an arrogant man at the front door with no ID demanding to speak to the homeowner. When told he didn't live here as it was a rental he demanded the tenants provide information where to find him. He wouldn't leave.

At this point the tenant demanded ID and he refused, all the while saying it was a personal matter and he could not discuss it. OK, that's great but if you can't and won't discuss it with someone who isn't who you are looking for that's fine but if you won't show ID or any other form of ID why are you here demanding the same? Hmmm yeah I don't think so. He was escorted off the property via our dog and our Glock. He has not returned.

Please stay as far away from these people if possible. If you have the unfortunate mortgage deal like we did where it was sold and you have no choice, pay the mortgage... just pay it! Not that you shouldn't but things happen and circumstances change. I get it. Maybe your direct deposit didn't go through on the right day or whatever but keep these guys at bay and do what you must. They WILL NOT WORK WITH YOU, no matter what they say. The customer service center reps and the loss mitigation people are just robots with no care for anyone no matter what they tell you. Refinance, or try to pay it off sooner or just try and pay what you owe. These and many more like it have no conscience. Stay away.

Our mortgage servicing was transferred to Carrington in 2017 after 16 years with Citifinancial. We had some difficulty in the beginning of the transition but I *thought* it was behind us. Fast forward to August 2019. We shut off autopay because we were in the process of refinancing. Well.. our closing date got delayed. So I went online to pay our monthly mortgage to Carrington. Website wouldn’t allow me to schedule the payment because we supposedly owed over $5k in "uncollected interest and fees!" I called customer service to find out what this is all about since the mortgage has ALWAYS been on autopay from the day we closed on our Citifinancial loan.

After being on the phone for over an hour all the customer service rep could tell me is that we had uncollected interest and fees that transferred over with our mortgage. Which is a load of crap bc as I said the loan has always been on autopay. Never late.. Never missed a payment. Never modified. Thankfully I save EVERYTHING and I was able to pull mortgage statements, bank statements, etc. that clearly show that when the loan transferred. My first couple of payments went into some sort of a black hole (my bank statements show payments to carrington - but their records don’t show the payments being applied).

I’ve forwarded all the documentation to Carrington’s so called research dept. and courtesy copied the NH Banking Dept. under a “qualified request” subject to RESPA and other federal laws and regs... still waiting for resolution. In the meantime I discovered through poking around on their site.. that they have been applying ALL of our payments to interest only and that our payoff simply continues to rise. I estimate that they owe us almost $10k.

Sidebar. NONE of my mortgage statements from Carrington over the last two years show ANY amount as being past due or uncollected nor we have never received any kind of letter or notification from Carrington indicating that we owe uncollected fees and interest. Even our credit report shows that we have never been late and that all our payments have been made on time. However.. our credit report does show that payments didn’t start until November 2017 even though I have documented proof that I made payments in September and October 2017.

So in short.. these jerks have been misapplying payments from the beginning which in turn has resulted in “uncollected fees and interest” compounding and building in the background unbeknownst to us bc all of our statements show our monthly autopay with no other info and we would not have known that anything was amiss if it weren’t for the fact that we were refinancing.

We ended up moving forward with the refi with the payment to Carrington documented as “under protest.” The Banking Dept. attorney has advised that it will all get sorted out and that we will get our money back but that it would take some time. Oh and btw, we have a letter from Carrington conceding that they screwed up, and now the refund that is owed to us has been sitting in escrow for almost a month! I had to contact them today to demand MY money! I have an attorney who is ready to file suit if they don't get this issue resolved. In short, stay away from Carrington! But if your loan gets transferred to the, document EVERYTHING and KNOW YOUR RIGHTS UNDER RESPA! I'm confident this was my saving grace. I can’t even believe that this is real life.

We have been home owners of 20+ years and sold our home and we’re getting a new loan for out of state move and we got screwed because of the poor help from Robert ** and Tim **, our lives were completely altered and turned upside down from all the delays and lack of communication. Lack of attention to detail and giving us false hope on getting a very important loan completed. There was negligence and we had to check up on numerous things to keep the ball rolling. They drag out people on getting loans. The biggest negligence and delay was they ordered a wrong appraisal a commercial instead of a residential and things had to be redone numerous times. And this was a residential home, not a commercial and it’s surrounded by subdivisions and sits on the border of city and County lines.

Carrington denied us a loan that we were worthy of getting and it was a very poor business decision on their part when we were basically getting robbed with such a high interest rate and closing costs and the fact that we were willing to still do it to get our home. We were strung along, mislead and mistreated, charged for a crappy appraisal that in turn ended up affecting everything along with poor customer service! We are now homeless everything being moved into a storage unit while we regroup, staying at an extended stay for a very high cost until we can find a more suitable housing situation and we lost thousands of dollars in earnest money and the appraisal and the list goes on.

From there on there was a series of basic documents requested and then straight to closing. Took about 4-5 weeks. I was able to shorten my mortgage term to 15 years and lower my APR to 4%. Bottom line, it was simple and saved ton a money. I will recommend this company to anybody who is looking to save some bucks.

I'm just sick to my stomach about what this company has done to me. I divorced after a 20 year marriage. My ex wife took out a equity loan while we were together. To my knowledge the loan was never used as I received no payment requests from them or any kind or a statement on the loan. She then defaulted on the loan and filed bankruptcy. After the divorce my ex quit claimed the property to me alone. I was told by Carrington to apply to get her name off the loan. Carrington refused to do that unless I refinanced so I tried and they kept putting me off with excuses. After many months I quit trying. Now I get a message that lien is being foreclosed on. What the heck?

I try again to deal with Carrington. THEY ARE IMPOSSIBLE. NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING OR WHO TO TALK TO. They suggest I refinance to get her off title even though they knew she signed a quit claim deed. So once again I try dealing with this unknowledgeable and unprofessional company to get My home refinanced in my name only. This process took two months or more. I told the mortgage officer over and over that I was getting foreclosure papers and court orders from the lien holder. He kept telling me not to worry. I was current on my mortgage and have been for years. He says Carrington would know about any foreclosure proceeding and that since it was a second lien they could not go past the first. WE TRUSTED HIM! BAD MISTAKE!

I paid for an appraisal. I got better insurance. I started making repairs and doing everything I was asked to do. After months of delay and me expressing my fear of foreclosure and doing everything they asked. They refused the refinance. I was injured at work the year before and out of work for 7 months. Even though two months ago I went back to the same company doing the same job and I continue paying my mortgage to Carrington on time. As usual they told me to come back in a couple of years.

LONG STORY SHORT....The second lien holder did foreclose supposedly without Carrington knowledge. Then the company came in and paid off the first mortgage in my x wife's name and now I'm being evicted from a home I've been in for twenty years that I dutifully paid for up until the very month they sold the mortgage right out from under me. I'VE LOST MORE THAN $200,000 IN EQUITY AND AM NOW HOMELESS! I was given no notice. I signed nothing.

Everyone at Carrington plays dumb. They keep giving me the customer service number over and over which is of NO help. Even the lender we had been talking to all these weeks knows no one in the business higher than him and maybe his manager which he shields from me. There is no one I can talk to! Our lender who was so nice when I was applying for the loan now is just too busy to put any more time into me and can not help to direct me to anyone in the company who can help.

Yep they stole my property and sold it to the lowest bidder. They are done with me and the lender says well "guess this a legal issue" knowing because of my financial situation was impossible. RUN AWAY IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN. THIS CAN HAPPEN TO ANY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. Like I said I'm losing my 20 year investment, my credit and my home for a $23000 second lien I didn't even know was delinquent. I was current on the mortgage always and the principal interest was very small compared to the value of the home, I signed nothing. They sold me out!

No actual message was left. All calls and then hang ups. I get the mail this week and 2 envelopes with my name and then my husband's, from Carrington. I recognized the name from caller ID. Learn my mortgage has been sold. They offer 4 different ways I can pay (all costing me additional monies). I decline that and tell her I will put a check in the mail that day. I did, for the full $1900 (for March & April).

Today, April 20th a man pulls into our driveway. Comes to the front door but I can't open it because my dog will get out and bite him. I tell him so. He licks the envelope and sticks it to our door. It's from Carrington Mortgage. They have now sent someone to our home. If our interest rate wasn't so low and this house almost paid off I would refinance just to NOT do business with them. We own 2 homes and NO, I did NOT notice two payments of less than 2 grand had NOT been made from our checking account. Maybe if someone from your company actually left a message on our machine we would have known who you were. Bad way to do business.

I have an account with the worst Mortgage Company in the World, Carrington Mortgage Company who obtained my Mortgage from Bank of America in 2016. When I was struggling and needed assistance, they played games, prevaricated, used trickery and deceit and pretended like they did not receive documentation that I sent to them and started foreclosing procedures on me in 2017. I was able to get assistance from an agency, was able to bring my loan current. Carrington agreed to accept the payments that brought my account current along with all fees associated with the delinquency at the time. I have been in constant turmoil with them regarding their *UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES* and have written numerous letters regarding such along with erroneous late fees, inspection fees, uncollected fees and any other unjustly fees that they have assessed me with.

I sent letters to them approximately in March, 2019. I tried paying over and beyond my Regular Payment to go towards my Principal Balance on numerous occasions and they would deny that and apply towards trumped up charges in an attempt to keep me form paying down my principal balance. My account has been current and in good standing and they have not reported this to the 3 Major Credit Bureaus, however when I was struggling and needed assistance like a Loan Modification, etc, they unjustly denied it and aggressively started FORECLOSURE along with expediting negative reporting on my credit.

Now since I have been current for almost a year they have not aggressively reported any POSITIVE REPORTING, for example with TransUnion no current and positive reporting for 4 mos, Experian no current and positive reporting since Jan, 2019, and for Equifax no current and positive reporting since December, 2015, 4 years which is absurd not to mention that this has damaged my credit as I am trying to refinance and get this loan away from them and they have sabotaged my every efforts. I tried to lower my escrow and this was a challenge and a disaster. I tried to have them remove PMI and they refused even though I have equity in my home.

My Home Payment increased without an explanation as to why and a lady Representative spoke with my son in regards to my account releasing my confidential information without my permission approximately a year ago, She recited the Mini Miranda to him and he is not obligated to my debt, his name is not on my account nor has any authorization been given, thereof. They have violated the law and made numerous mistakes and have violated my rights not to mention failing to accurately and fairly report my positive credit, therefore damaging my credit worthiness. I have been dealt harsly with and they tried to unjustly take my home. I believe that my rights have been VIOLATED by Carrington Mortgage Services, LLC and instead of making excuses for their mistakes so that they won't be held accountable for them they have resulted to prevaricating, cover ups, deceit and trying to hide their errors.

This matter have been going on for far too long and need to be rectified. They should be fined and sanctioned for the sloppy, unprofessional and unethical way that they have handled my Loan and the damages I've suffered with inaccuracies on my credit report which is damaging to my credit worthiness at best and it needs to be rectified expeditiously. This is the worst Company on the planet and they should be shut down. They practice unfair and deceptive practices and every Representative gives different answers until you don't know who to trust and believe. I have recently filed a Complaint against them with CFPB and my intentions is to proceed with numerous Complaints to other agencies who governs how they conduct their unethical business.

From the horrible customer service to the archaic payment processes, if you are looking to do business with this company, DON'T DO IT! Every year that I have an escrow shortage, I pay it. Historically (with Chase) I could walk into a branch or call and make that payment over the phone and automatically, a new escrow analysis would generate. With this company, they charge you $20 to pay over the phone AND you AS THE CUSTOMER have to request a re-run of your escrow analysis. Better hope it's 15 business days before your automatic payment or they will just take out the pre-payment amount and say 'oh well'!

To boot, every 3-4 weeks I have some mortgage solicitor calling and asking me to refinance my mortgage with them...AFTER I have continuously called their customer service department and requested NO sales calls... My account is down to owing for just January and my new payment for February, but they continue to send me the same Notice of Intent to Foreclose letter.

Basically, no matter what you do, they will continue to threaten you and try to strike fear in you. I will not be bullied by them and pray the someone my loan is sold elsewhere very soon. I hate this company with a passion. I have a following of about 3,000 people on social media and have spread the word to not to do business with them if you can help it. I encourage others to do the same. Put the word out there and let others know to beware and stay away.

They applied 2 months' worth of payments to somebody else account then put 60 days late on my credit report and refused to remove it dropping my credit score tremendously.

Chase sold our mortgage to Carrington almost a year after we moved in. The following year we got a notice that our property was being sold at auction because the taxes weren't paid. After a run around, we got that settled, but not until we paid out of pocket for the property taxes. No reimbursement. Last year we had a little rough patch and got 2 months behind. The 3rd month we were able to make payments again and some months paid 2 payments, attempting to catch it up. November they rejected the payment and said that it needed to be paid in full. We sent a Western Union payment, that was also rejected.

At this point it sent our "past due amount" into the 90 days so they said they had grounds for Foreclosure. We call and ask what needs to be paid to stop the proceedings and they tell us $3,280. We overnight them a check, they hold the check for 5 days and then reject it, stating that the proceedings have already been filed and we need to pay the new amount. A guy delivers a legal docket to our home while we are at work and LEAVES IT WITH OUR BABYSITTER- not in a envelope or anything. She told them she wasn't the homeowner and that we would be home later that day. He left it anyway.

The paperwork for foreclosure wasn't filed until the day prior. They then tell us that we have to wait for the Reinstatement Letter to know how much to pay and give us 14 days to come up with the money. All the while, they're calling us asking why we aren't paying our bill and sending us statements. No lawyer will help and are telling us our only option is to pay up or file bankruptcy. What's to keep them from taking all this money (which we've had to borrow to even pay) and then still proceeding with the foreclosure process?

Like most others my mortgage was sold to Carrington Mortgage Co. Since then I've had nothing but problems. We make a payment on the 1st and it don’t get posted till the 20th or later and they charge you to pay them. Meanwhile my account is still acquiring interest on the money I already paid them. Several time they say we haven’t made our payment but it pulled out of my account a month or 2 months prior. Checking my credit score they reported I've missed 10 payments and was more than 30 days late 3 time which ain't so but has dropped my credit score so low I can't refinance with another company. This company has done nothing but steal my money. I called them and ask for a payment history for my account and after the rep being rude and playing dumb on the phone they finally said they would send it. I tried to give them my email address only to be told it has to be mailed to me.

Now after 6 months and 5 more calls to them I still have not received anything in the mail from them except another letter saying I was late on a payment that had pulled out of my account 4 weeks prior. And now when I call they are saying my payment went up due to tax increase in my county but when I ask for paperwork on it and what I had in my escrow account they gave me the run around about it. What they are saying on the phone and doing are 2 totally different things Somebody needs to investigate this company for fraudulent business practices. All they do is rob people. In 3 years my account has lowered less than the previous 2 years. How the heck is that even possible. For as many customers this company rips off. Surely there must be a lawyer out there that can take them down. WHAT THIS COMPANY DOES CAN’T BE LEGAL.

We had CitiMortgage when they sold to Carrington. What a nightmare these last few years has been. We fought with them a year saying we never had insurance - which we always had with Allstate. Always losing papers. Meantime they added their insurance at a crazy amount. The last year of the mortgage was total hell. They continually locked us out of our account online from paying. When I called they said it could be made 10 days after the due date... In a window of a few days....that way our payment was always late. If I mailed the payment it wouldn't get processed for days.

If sent priority signature they said it takes several days to process. I had to go to Walmart and pay $22.00 to send by Western Union... Which I found out they couldn't block or delay. There was a time CitiMortgage paid a couple real estate taxes. So on every bill they had the total amount of the payment and showed elsewhere the tax paid. We always had the option to pay the total due to pay off loan. We almost always paid extra to pay on the tax portion also. Come to find out they didn't apply correctly. However we always had a payoff amount showing currently with fees, taxes and more online and on monthly statement.

At the last payment we was given over 5 different payoff numbers. The one in black and white, another they could never explain but was almost $5000 more than and others. Everyone with the company had a different number. They harassed and basically threatened to take our home continually. Tired of fighting and the endless phone calls. I paid the crazy figure of over $8,000 as requested online to pay what they wanted and go away. (Found out when by one of their people they sometimes lock the accounts to prevent you from paying unless you pay the total amount to pay off loan).

I paid it off online and money was transferred. Then the crap began again... One agent wanted over $2000 more, another said all is fine, another said $1000 more. I said I paid in full and I even got the next 2 statements showing balance was $0.00 and nothing was due. However one of the people would not stop calling. Sent certified registered letter to stop the phone calls, send deed and even sent copies of THEIR statements was paid. Even after that we still got calls. I had to send more letters to suppose their consumer office.

They then restarted the loan without our signatures for over $2,000. Sending us statements that we was missing payments. Threatening foreclosure. Attorney advised us to let them go and take us to court. He advised they would never want this in court because they would be facing a major lawsuit. In the meantime, they are holding our deed hostage. Over a year and still holding our house hostage. I'm seeing a consumer law attorney to file suit. Meantime... After we paid in full and restarted the loan without our permission they have reported to the credit bureau we are not making payments on a loan that was paid off.

Had Bank of America who kept giving me the run-around in 2018 regarding the final $4,000 installment of a $24,000 insurance property damage claim from March 2017. I kept calling them because the repairs were complete and went thousands of dollars above the $24k so had to pay that out of my own pocket and wanted the last of the money to recoup some of my own money. After many months of stall tactics, they finally agreed to send someone to do the inspection. The inspector reported 100% completion on the repairs to my home. But, sly BOA had already sold my mortgage to Carrington Mortgage Services - the inspection was done about 10 days after the official transfer.

On to Carrington in September 2018 - when I called them about the status they said they would have to send their own inspector but I would have to supply them with all of my documentation since BOA did not transfer any of that to them. They also stated that if I sent them the inspection documentation from BOA they would honor it. So contacted BOA who sent me an almost blank page but did have my loss draft account number, name and address and a line on it showing the repairs as being 100% complete. I sent this, via certified mail, with every invoice and image of signed cashed checks from my bank, along with 2 contractor W-9s for $15,000 of the work. The rest of the work was done by Lowe's- fence replacement and various workers who were referred to me (so didn't ask for W-9s or maybe they don't even have W-9s) but I did have their letterhead invoices and cashed checks.

I explained to both BOA and Carrington that I couldn't find a reputable contractor to take on the entire project due to the fact that everyone told me they were already booked for 2017 so I ended up having to manage my own project, outside of the initial emergency work. December 10, 2018 - almost 2 years after the storm damage, Carrington rep confirmed they had the documentation and asked if I wanted to request an inspection. I said yes. She told me I'd be contacted within 2 weeks of the call. I got a call second week in January 2019 with an automated message from Carrington asking if I wanted to request an inspection (press 1) if one was already requested, press 2. So I pressed 2.

I called them on 1/15/19 to find out why I still hadn't been contacted by an inspector. After reviewing my account and documentation, the rep told me that I didn't need an inspection and that I should be able to just get my check. He said he would request for the funds to be sent to me. I got an automated call on 1/18/19 stating that my request was denied because I needed to provide signed and notarized forms for W-9 using a form from their website, for everyone who provided service for this claim.

So there's 'the guy' I found to cut up and remove the 70 foot Hemlock tree (neighbors tree that only hit my house). This was so someone could get to the hole in the roof and the hole in the back of my house. Lucky to have gotten someone since this storm affected at least 3 counties so no help was to be found anywhere at the time-- we just ran around the town to see if someone would consider us a higher priority than other damages due to the gaping holes in the house and subzero temps. Then there's the guy he knew to remove the stump. The electrical guy, a friend of a friend, to fix a downed wire quickly, because National Grid was going to shut me down for a few days due to downed lines next to the house. There are many more but I can probably get W-9s from them.

What I won't get and don't have time for is the notarization-- are you kidding me??? Just send someone to my house and you'll see the work is done!! I also provided them with documentation of another $12,000 that I put into the house for other things as a show of good faith that I take care of my house! It wasn't money I planned on spending in 2018 but thought I'd better get those things done before the house was painted (as a result of storm damage) so that paint job wouldn't get ruined (by 1 chimney repair and 1 replacement, had to replace more than half of the roof myself - only the damaged part of the roof was covered by the insurance) and more...

They keep the money to make sure you're taking care of the house that they have a vested interest in. I've done more than show them that 'their' asset is being taken care of. Not only do I pay my mortgage on time every month, I also make sure my home is taken care of! I was so hopeful that Carrington would be better than BOA but they're not. I'm so disgusted.

Carrington did escrow analysis October and said there will be shortage which will be spread across my mortgage payment over 12 months or I can pay it off at once. I decided to pay off the shortage amount. After they received the escrow shortage payment, they ran another escrow analysis again and said there will still be shortage. I called them for explanation why escrow analysis was done twice with 3 weeks period. They could not give me any explanation.

Since they charge fees to pay over the phone or through online account. I used BoA Bill Pay for my mortgage payment, I submitted payment through BoA Bill Pay on 21st of November, when nothing was posted to my online mortgage account. It took Carrington about 3 weeks to post the payment to my account on 12 of December. That experience and being fearful of what will happen if my payment was not posted before the 15th of the month have made me to decide to pay them the $5 convenience fee to pay online. There is no way to contact Carrington through email, which I’m guessing they intentionally don’t want to leave paper trail for their deception services. This company is phony and too dishonest.

They didn't inform me of any change until I went in my account and saw my next bill. I was also supposed to receive a hard copy of my Escrow Analysis. Never did. Didn't know it existed until my unnecessary amount of phone calls with Customer Service today. But that's not the kicker here, folks. Oh no. The second time I called and talked to someone, I asked where in my mortgage documents I can see where they have the legal right to raise my payment after only 6 months. He told me he was going to put me on hold to confirm with his supervisor.

That dude comes back on and tells me they got a letter from FEMA saying I was required to have flood insurance but didn't have it. He then emailed me some document I've never seen, had no signature or name on it, and I don't have a copy of it in any of my closing/mortgage documents, that had a box ticked that my flood zone house with an FHA loan (which you can't not have flood insurance in a flood zone with an FHA loan) didn't require flood insurance. I went back to look at my monthly breakdown... Wanna know what was there? A MONTHLY FLOOD INSURANCE PAYMENT.

Guess what else? My online account had all the accurate policy information about my flood insurance. My only assumption is that this guy blatantly lied to try to make up some excuse and then sent me a fake document. The 3rd guy I talked to said he's never heard of them getting a letter like that, my account had no record of such a letter, and my account showed I had to have flood insurance and did. I called to find out why as my escrow balance ALWAYS has enough money in it to cover all escrow costs. The representative states they require a minimum balance of 2 month cushion. In my case that is minimum cushion balance of $1,100; additional to my regular escrow payments. Their agent told me the escrow department is not a bank and can charge whatever minimum balance amount they want for escrow. What a nightmare! Completely ridiculous, I consider that to be stealing - they aren’t paying me any interest for any escrow balance - but expect their customers to keep a minimum balance.

I have written in to cancel the escrow portion multiple times, Carrington has not acknowledged my request, when I called to complain and follow up, their reps state - there is no escrow department service via phone - I must write a letter via regular mail or fax a written request. I tell them, "I have mailed in my requests" - Carrington refuses to acknowledge my requests! This is a nightmare! Bank of America will not help in this matter, because they had the right to sell my loan, and are not responsible for anything the new lender (that BoA forced on me) that Carrington Mortgage Services does.

Like many others, my loan was transferred to Carrington from Bank of America in September. I have an excellent credit score and have never been late on a payment. Instead, I am on track to pay off my 30-year mortgage in 15 years. In other words, I am not profitable to the bank. Right before my mortgage was transferred, I made an additional payment to principal to Bank of America. If I had been given any warning that my loan was being sold, I would have waited.

Bank of America would apply my extra payments as monthly prepayments until the 1st of the month, then they would apply anything over the monthly payment to the principal. Carrington chose to keep my additional payment as a monthly prepay. I decided to make another additional payment to the principal in December. I called Carrington's customer service (service is a an oxymoron here) to ask them how to make a payment to principal. I made it very clear that I was not interested in a monthly prepayment; I wanted to pay down the principal. Their representative walked me through the process to make an additional payment on the website. I was hesitant, because there was no comment box to indicate that I wanted the payment to go to principal but the rep assured me that it would be automatically be applied to principal if I chose the "other amount" option.

December 1 rolled around, and Carrington (surprise!) applied my payment as a monthly prepayment instead of additional to principal. I called customer "service" again, and they told me that they would back it out for me and apply it to principal. They did not, so I opened a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau complaint. I also asked the rep how to avoid this problem in the future. She told me that the only way to be sure was to call and make the payment over the phone - an option that Carrington charges an outrageous $20 fee for doing. I told her that was unacceptable. She then told me to send a check. I pointed out all the reviews on this site and others that stated Carrington applied extra checks clearly labelled "principal" as monthly prepayments. She had not response.

Carrington's objective here is pretty clear. When you call customer service, you get treated to a recorded message about how they are a debt collector, anything you say can and will be used against you, blah, blah, blah. Did I mention that my account is on pace to be paid 15 years ahead??? Mortgages get sold to Carrington because they are unprofitable, and it is Carrington's job to make it profitable by collecting outrageous fees and making it impossible for you to make extra payments. I cannot understand how they get away with this. They would not be in business if consumers had a choice of mortgage servicers.

My mortgage loan was sold to them by BOA in September. The first two months went fine. Then November came. First they sent me a late notice on the 10th of the month because my payment wasn’t made by the 1st. I have over 25 years in the financial industry and every bank I’ve worked for or had a loan with your payment is not late until after the 15th. Then I got my statement on 11/26 for my Dec 1st payment and my monthly payment significantly increased. When I called the customer service rep was totally rude and didn’t give a crap about what I was saying. I was told that it was because my escrow account was short for my property taxes because they had increased.

First my property tax bill for this year hasn’t been sent to anyone yet and the figure he gave me was what was paid in 2017 which was almost exactly the same as 2016. Yes my escrow account was going to be short by about $50 because something else increased in this year. In my past 30 years of experience that is what an escrow analysis is done for after the first of the year and then your payment gets adjusted and you pay your shortage. My new payment amount has me paying almost $1,000 over what I need in my escrow account not to mention I never received any notification that my payment was going up.

I was told they ran an escrow analysis after the loan was transferred to them. I told them I never received it and the wonderful customer service rep told me they didn’t have any control over the mail. He didn’t even offer to sent me a different one. I was also told that they are required to keep a two month cushion in the escrow account at all times. And I’ve never heard of a financial institution changing payments in December. So apparently now it’s legal for a company just to keep your money. I have never had horrible of a customer service experience. I highly discourage anyone from doing business with this company. I had to give them a one star rating here. I feel that is too high.

However, it is now November and Carrington still has not adjusted my escrow. I have told it should happen in December and if the difference is over $50 I will get a refund in 15 to 30 days after the change has been made (the difference will be several hundred dollars after over-paying for three months). Customer service regarding this issue has been beyond frustrating.

The Carrington customer service people I speak to don't seem to be able to answer my questions, and I feel like I get the "runaround." I would not recommend this company to anyone! BoA sold our mortgage to Carrington in September 2018, most likely because the property is worth less than the mortgage. Since then, we've had nothing but issues. We never received any correspondence from Carrington with an account number or their so-called welcome packet. I called them in September to get my new account number so I could make a payment. They told me that they were still transferring all the information and my info/new acct number hadn't yet been set up in their system. I was advised I would receive a letter in the mail once the account was established, and when I asked about the September payment, they advised me that it would not be considered or reported late.

I had to call in October because I still hadn't received anything. Finally, they provided me with an account number, but I chose not to pay over the phone or online because of their $5 fee. I mailed them a check for September and October payments and they cashed it. Now today, they had someone go out to my property trying to give my tenants an envelope addressed to me. At 8 o'clock on a SATURDAY MORNING! Not only that, but this individual was also asking the tenant for my address and phone number... that Carrington already had on file (I gave it to them earlier this month when I called them to get my account number)! I'd already called Carrington after they cashed the check for the payments to make sure they didn't need anything else, and the rep assured me that they did not. Now to have them visiting my property and essentially harassing my tenants is unacceptable. I am anxious for Monday so that I can call my lawyer about this situation.

PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR... READ THE REVIEWS ON THIS SITE. You'll be able to tell which reviews come from people who've actually dealt with this company versus the ones that seem fake. If you aren't so fortunate and are forced to deal with them, be sure to document EVERYTHING, including phone calls, get the names of the representatives you talk to, and consult with your lawyer. This place is unprofessional and just bad business all around.

On August 2, 2018 I was reach out by a representative from Carrington Mortgage named David **. On that day I submitted all the paperwork he would need to get this loan started. About 7 to 10 days later I received an email from Dave saying I was pre-approved for a mortgage and he would order a home appraisal which was a nightmare done by a man name Steven **. The report came back with a few minor things which were easily repaired. After that nightmare was resolved I waited to find out when the paperwork would be ready to sign another 7 to 2 weeks went by and no contact from anybody. By now it's labor day that Tuesday I called to see how things were going they told me that Dave had quit a week ago and I had a new loan processor Douglas Earl ** who had no clue what he was doing.

By now we are well into mid-October enter Joe **. He promised he would make this loan happen. Just needed a few more pieces of paperwork. Today 10/26/2018 Joe could not make the loan happen. If it was done properly and at normal amount of time the loan would have gone through. I make out my credit cards thinking this loan is coming to get some work done around the outside of my house. Now Joe tells me something different. They say their goal is 100% satisfaction. I would give them 10% satisfaction.

If your mortgage was sold and now serviced by Carrington you need to understand it's their job to flip these loans either by forcing you to refinance, pay off or foreclose for as little as a 3% profit. After 22 years mine was sold to them too, I did a little research. Your mortgage was bundled and sold with what Wall Street considers nonperforming loans, either you are behind on payments, you have a low credit score or your loan balance is more than the house is worth. Once Wall Street groups buy your mortgage it's assigned to trustees who in turn hire Carrington to make sure that flip happens. This is their true purpose so they don't really care if your loan gets handled correctly.

You need to make sure that you adhere to the terms and conditions in your contract, then you need to create as much of a proven history with your dealing with them as possible, make copies of everything and create as much proof as you can in every single dealing you have with them. If it's something as simple as a fax you need to pay to fax it so you can get a receipt and a printed transmission verification report, this is all that will save you in court, you have to protect your own self and that start by collecting proof and evidence. I was not behind on my mortgage. I simply had a low credit score due to it being the only thing on my credit, we had no other debt and pay cash for everything, they got my loan in May of 2017 and they kept telling me not to make a payment. They didn't have me in their system yet.

I finally told them I had a 10 day grace period on my payment that was about to expire, I made my payment anyway (in keeping with my contract) by Western Union, they not only denied receiving my payment it took getting Western Union involved to get them to acknowledge it and they still didn't credit my May, June, or July payments until August all while sending me foreclosure notices, something I'd never received in 22 years.

Skip to May of 2018 exactly a year and they didn't credit the payment they received electronically from my bank on the 15th (my payment is due on the 20th). I faxed them a detailed report the bank printed out that contained all the transaction codes and a letter from the bank stating they did in fact get my payment on the 15th, I had to do that 7 times after which they sent me an unsigned letter asking for a copy of my bank statement which they did not need (they are fishing to see how much money you have which didn't work with me because after my research I talked with a lawyer who advised we set up an account for nothing but paying our house payment). I had to fax them a copy of my bank statement along with the original faxes an additional 3 times before they credited my payment and they still didn't credit it for the right date, they listed the payment received on the date they finally decided to credit it not the day they received it.

I made my payment on the 5th of this month and it has not been credited yet either and I bet you're wondering if I can prove anything I'm saying, you bet I can, everything from a copy of my credit report that shows nothing on it but my house which was in good standing with no late payments to a receipt and transmission verification report for every fax I sent them.

At this point I'm building proven paper fact evidence against them that they have a history of not crediting my payments, that's why I tell you all to get as many forms of proof that you can and it's best if you make your payments through something like online banking instead of directly through them because it creates evidence that can be corroborated by a third party. There are many state and federal resources I have not seen mentioned in any statement here that people must not be aware of but if they keep playing games with me I'm going to start a website with a list of all of them.

My mortgage was sold to Carrington in September 2018 and I register to pay my mortgage online. Guess what? They have a Convenient FEE of $5.00. In 28 years, that's a total of $1680.00 and for what? They want you to go paperless. Isn't this the whole thing, to eliminate paper, so the costs are lower? I never heard about a Convenient FEE! I don't like them!!! I hate them!!! The customer service suck too!!! "Is nothing I can do about it... blah, blah, blah. If you don't like us, you can refinance". Why? I have a very low interest rate.

I was working with Justin from Carrington for about 2 months, all my paperwork had been submitted, and according to him, approved. I received 2 preapproval letters that corresponded with the properties I was looking at. I am under the belief that as soon as I find a house I like, everything would go smooth. Justin called and stated that they are looking at my student loans, which are not in default/nor have bad reporting on my credit, the balance is high but in good standing. I informed him in the beginning that I had this loan and that was the only outstanding debt I had, which he should have seen when he pulled my information in the beginning. After he stated they were reviewing this, I have not heard from him since, no phone calls, no emails, which was not surprising because his communication was awful throughout all this.

I should have taken the advice of my agent who told me that they had a bad reputation. I actually lost a house because the seller's agent went with another company who she had worked with prior to, and also worked with Carrington who she had a terrible experience with. This company should be reviewed by the feds/state to look over their practices, something shady is going on. No one is working during office hours, then you get a call out the clear blue on a situation that most of the time has been resolved. I went to another company the next day (Movement Mortgage), who has had great communication, day and night. Approved within days and finalized within a week or so. No headaches, no lapse in communication, everything went smooth. I close in 2 weeks.

Worse company I have ever dealt with - Stay away if possible.

As of 9/4/18, Bank of America sold our loan to Carrington. Since this process began, we had ZERO notice, someone showed up at the property, gave a stranger a letter (not even in an envelope), and was asking questions about us. We don’t even live at that address!!! The letter contained personal information including account numbers and our current physical address. As a rental property our tenants were terrified thinking we were in some kind of foreclosure, or they would be anticipating an eviction! We find all this out in the same day!

We call and get a CS rep who didn’t know anything! Had no account number, was asking us to give him our checking account number for auto draft, and was insanely rude! We are totally disappointed in Bank Of America for this bs! It is unnecessary and completely avoidable! Bank Of America has ALL of our information and it was not even conveyed to CM! They have 3rd party representatives going to the property address like we have abandoned our home! Unacceptable and we will be refinancing with a reputable bank!!! NEVER DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM OR BANK OF AMERICA AGAIN!!! 0 stars!!!

I have been on the phone for hours with Carrington Mortgage Services. They needed to send a signed document to an organization. They have, so far, sent the document for ANOTHER person. Hence, personal information is being sent and shared with those that should not get that personal information. And, still... they have NOT sent MY information as requested. I am on the phone for the fifth time. NOTE: YOUR personal information may be faxed to someone without your knowledge and permission. I have seen personal information for three people so far, including phone numbers, account numbers, names, addresses, etc. This is unacceptable. Meanwhile, I am still trying to get them to send the correct fax with MY information to the organization that requested it. Horrible service!

Carrington bought our loan from Bank of America last year. I pay my mortgage EVERY month and without missing 1 single payment since 2001 but pay when we receive our social security check every 3rd Wednesday of every month. Because I pay after the 1st when the mortgage is due, I’ve accrued late fees monthly now amounting to $2050.00 since Carrington took over. I also received a “Notice of intent to Foreclosure” with options for apply for a Loan modification, mortgage assistance, decide for short sale or Foreclose. Of course at our age, 78 and my wife 77, we applied for mortgage assistance in hopes to stay in our home.

Wrote a hardship letter and sent all the necessary information they requested with proof of our food financial issues and today we receive their response denying our mortgage assistance request and telling us our ONLY option is to “Liquidate our home” as if it were that simple to just give up and walk away from the only roof over our heads and the years we’ve invested in this home. We’ve worked so hard to keep this home. My wife and I have put a lot of love into this home to have this greedy and heartless company force us to just walk away from the only thing we own. UNREAL!!!

Carrington purchased my mortgage from CitiMortgage several years ago. CitiMortgage allowed us to make bimonthly payments as well as pay extra on the principle so that we could pay off the mortgage early. Carrington refused to let us do the same. I was told that they didn't have the capability. In the years that Carrington had our mortgage, even though we had a few financial difficulties, we never missed a payment (although a payment may be a day or two late due to their wonderful computer system). They also charged us fees when the mortgage was late and it was their fault (usually because their computer system was down).

When it came time to pay off the mortgage I was asked if I wanted to net the escrow. Since our escrow was only slightly more than our principle I said yes. The first payoff notice I received did not net the escrow. I was then told that I had to do it online and that I could not make the request over the phone. Why did they even bother to ask if I couldn't make the request over the phone? The payoff notice that was received after I made the request online did not net the escrow either. I was then told that I had to make the request in writing. My third attempt at a payoff notice came back with the escrow netted; however, they added on all kinds of fees. They also kept telling me that if I didn't want to pay extra interest that I could pay the fees and if they were reduced that they would send me the difference. Fat chance, I did not trust them to send me the difference.

After getting a lawyer involved, three more attempts, and a total of two months, I finally received the correct payoff notice. They stretched out the whole process as long as they possibly could so that they could squeeze every last nickel and dime out of us. We were paying off our mortgage five months early and they tried to bleed us dry because of that. If Carrington ever purchases your mortgage from another company I advise you to refinance with a reputable company so that you do not have to deal with Carrington Mortgage.

I was very skeptical at first, but after reading a lot of reviews about them from different websites, I was finally convinced to go with them. They walked me through the documents that needed for the purchased, negotiation and refinancing process. Their communication was also impressive, they kept me updated with the progress and they were also very responsive to all the questions I had and explained everything to make sure I understand everything very clearly. My entire experience with Carrington Mortgage Service is absolutely great and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for an honest and reliable mortgage broker.

This company is a joke. Due to loss of job we fell behind on our payment. During this time we had water damage to our kitchen cabinets and had to file ins. claim. Insurance company sent the check and we contacted Carrington our the insurance claim. They stated since the mortgage was delinquent that OUR MONEY would be monitored (BS). Spoke with several CSR and they stated for the claim not to be monitored and not to have a licensed contractor. We will need to pay the past due balance. We did exactly that after verifying the loan was current. We were informed they would endorse the check and send back to us.

The day we emailed everything over and verified it was received they stated they would still be monitoring the claim and we had to have a license contractor for something we could fix on our own. They are complete liars and very rude and after checking online we notice our mortgage payments has increased with no explanation. Our kitchen still isn't fixed going on two months now. I'm so over this crooked company. Attorney general is my stop.
