I finished my MBA at CTS and before that my Associates and Bachelors. Once I completed my MBA and had paid for all the school and passed all the classes, I was waiting on my transcripts to apply for jobs. I called them asking for it and then I noticed in the accounts section that I had a new balance of $200.00. They call it a graduation fee. I have graduated twice from CTU and was never charged this and now they say if I don't pay it, they will not give me my diploma or transcripts until I do. They are holding what I earned for hostage now, because they want to at the end and after all classes have been finished and passed another chance to get more money.
The school is already more expensive then most and now they want to hold my transcripts for ransom. Is this even legal. The school tuition has already been paid for and I passed all the classes, but now they add this fee and say until we get it you don't get what you spent years paying for and attaining. I would never recommend this school to anyone! This is Bad Business!

CTU gave me the best education, and I base that on attending 3 other colleges. I was treated fairly and I found out most of the administrative pressures they put on me came from having to comply with federal, state and higher learning commission standards and expectation. The only people in my cohort who had problems were those who brought the problem on themselves because they did not work, or if they ran into other issues, expected a freebee. This school is open enrollment, meaning they don't screen out people like state schools do. Faculty was fair but firm, staff were helpful and patient. If you suffer from entitlementitis, that is you think you are owed a free ride, no school will work for you. This school made me work, and my new employer recognized the school's quality.

The teachers don't care about the students. They won't answer emails for days if at all. The advisors don't care about their students. It don't matter if you are sick or not. The teachers there are students as well and expect you to know everything. As soon as I can I'm quitting that school.

I enrolled with CTU in confidence that I will be building a better future for my family. From the beginning of my courses I had set my mind to stay focused and do the best I can to complete my work well and on time. I was doing very well, I maintained all A's and some B's. After roughly a year into my degree, my son got really sick. I was an Army wife and my husband was deployed. I had to take my son to a specialist that was a two hour drive from the base.
I contacted my instructors to let them know that I may need an extension if possible, to complete my assignments. They gave me an extra week. I was able to complete my assignments at that time and they were accepted. Since my son was in and out of the hospital and back and forth to the specialist to find out his diagnosis, it became harder and harder to catch up on my work. I ended up failing the course due to it. At this point I had to retake the class.
My son was still very sick, I was alone with three children in a state I didn't know anyone and I wasn't able to complete my assignments when I was in the hospital with my son. Now; because I have failed the same class twice, I was kicked out of the University because I needed that class to complete my degree. I explained my situation many times with the University and even though I was a successful student before my family emergency there wasn't anything they could do because you can not take the same class more than 2 times.
I am now in a debt of $29,000.00 of a school that I wanted to complete but wasn't able to. I think that in certain situations, if a student is doing well but has falling off the tracks due to hardships, life changing acts or family emergencies there should be more reasonable accommodations for the students that are still eager and willing to get back on track to complete their degrees successfully. Instead of making what was supposed to be a better future for a family, only put more financial and emotional stress and burden on them.

I enrolled in Oct 2014, talked to an admissions adviser MULTIPLE times over the phone and email. From the start I expressed my urgency to wait to start the classes until financial aid and my transcripts were resolved, my adviser insisted I start right away and that "if things don't work out, if financial aid doesn't go through or you don't agree, we can just wipe everything off and you will NOT be charged". Did it sound too good to be true? YES, I asked him over and over and over again, are you sure I will not be responsible to charges if I decide to just stop at anytime because of issues with financial aid and classes? The answer was always YES. I was extremely naive to think that anyone would keep their word from a place like this.
I JUST received my financial aid amounts, awards/grants/etc YESTERDAY! 1/22/15, three months after my enrollment, granted I signed up late BUT this is outrageous. I do like the way course is taught, but since they select classes for you etc, it was honestly all very confusing to me. They still have not "uploaded" my previous credits from FRCC, so they are considering me a freshman. I also found out yesterday that I was set up to do 47-49 credits between Oct 2014-Aug 2015, which means that being a "freshman" status, the amount of financial aid I am awarded is not even enough to cover the year, I would have an out of pocket expense - Had I known that I WOULDN'T HAVE ATTENDED!.
Keep in mind I am used to Community Colleges, not only cheaper but everything seems to run smoother now that I've had this experience here. In my second "quarter" with CTU I was out in a math and a management class - management is one of the previous classes I have passed and I was told by my adviser that "when the time comes it'll be figured out"... hmm.. yet I have a student success coach reaching me to check in on me about my classes and reminding me to participate etc, at the same time I've been trying to reach this other person who told me they would be in touch again and to call anytime to solve issues with no response lately.
This student success coach is now telling me I am failing the class that I refused to participate in, all because I did an introduction days into the class so she would leave me alone, while still waiting to have it removed since that's what I had been told from the start. That I am still responsible for all charges for these two quarters, and that it was my responsibility to talk to HER about it before the class started. She talked to me in a very condescending way, and I have no desire to even continue, the only way they could POSSIBLY do what this other guy promised from the beginning is if I have evidence of what he said. I have emails proving me being concerned and asking him about this class and so forth, but they will probably get away with it.
Well excuse me for reaching out to I guess the wrong person??? And for trusting someone who works for you for the way things were supposed to work out. Don't fall for it, this is going to be a bigger headache than you think, research another school or go to a community college.

I can understand that there are a few angry people on this forum. Not everyone has a pleasant experience at CTU. I for one had a good experience. Though you may not believe that I am not an employee of CTU but, I am not. I graduated recently with a BSBA in Project Management and, I have begun a career in that field. I have worked in and around construction for several years and the Bachelor's degree has given me the ability to move into upper management within the current firm in which I am employed. My income is significant and I am happier than I thought that I could be. Yes! Many of you are right; CTU is expensive. My justification for that has always been that I have to spend the money because I don't have the time to attend a brick and mortar school. I have $42k in student loans and I don't care. Because I was in school while working, I climbed the ladder while I was getting my education. I think this is the only way to be a truly professional student. I made $55k more this year than two years ago when I only had an Associate’s degree. That alone covers the student loans.
I encourage all of you to look into CTU diligently. CTU is accredited by the higher learning association and the project management institute (PMI). Also the USAF encourages Airmen to get their degrees through CTU because of the flexibility of the University. I served in the Air Force and I don't believe they would steer me in a direction that was not constructive and positive. After all, they have paid more than I have over the last four years. Good luck to all of you on here who have had a bad experience with your education.

I tried enrollment into Colorado Technical University online twice with the same results...lies for their (schools) profit. They assigned several admissions advisors once I found out the first blatantly lied about stipends and they scheduled me classes I didn't sign up for. Could never talk to a head of department, this school is pitiful!

I worked for CTU for 4 years. I was very excited to start. I have been in customer service for 30 plus years, I went through extensive training to help students get the best education. Well, we had a budget to hit anywhere from 7 to 10 enrollments a month, make 200 plus calls a day, if you were liked by management you got good leads; if not you got the people who were filling out applications for jobs and hit "NO THANKS" and we still called even if they were on the DNC list which other advisors did not follow through when asked to be put on the DNC "Do not call" list. I was one of the very few who cared I gave quality not quantity, I followed through with all my students did everything asked but it was not good enough. I was bullied by senior advisors and management to pressure students to enroll, while I would be talking doing the "interview" my manager would be instant messaging me to say things I was not comfortable with. We had teachers who were teaching from outside of the country and did not work well with students but to get your teacher changed was never.
I suggest you go to a ground campus which has online classes which have real in person advisors to get help with employment not these online schools I was fired for being 15 mins late in a snow storm, took me 5 hours to get there and they ended closing the school. It was the best thing that ever happened to me, I ran into another ex-employee the other day and CTU was bought out by another fly by night company and the people who cared and pushed to make a difference like myself are no longer there. I hope this helps, I am sorry for all the money you have spent on this poor education.

I wanted to go to school to get a better career and to make more money than what my State of South Carolina was offering. However, I started school taking classes with CTU Online, I major in Medical Billing & Coding. I really thought that I was going to be able to get a job in this field. My grades were really good. My classes started in 2010-2012. I was so proud that I was the first in my family to attend college.
The next semester, I took another course which was a Bachelor's in Health Science Administration. But, I did not realized till I was done how much everything had cost. I really wish I had dropout and went to a regular college in my area that would provide me the education along with on the job training into a new job. However, I am now struggle as much as I did when I started taking the course. Never gotten a job in neither of my so call degrees and I have a 50,000 dollar bill I have to pay back. I make 7.90 an hour and can't afford to pay this money.
The school make you feel or tell you that you will be able to find a job in whatever career that you choose which was a lie. I had other colleagues that actually quit because the work was so much. I made some of the worst mistakes and this was one of them. Do not go to any online that does not provide job assists or can call the area to set up a job placement for their students. The school is really too high I couldn't understand why the tuition kept going up every semester. I was stun and amaze. I just want people to know more about this school before you attend.

I do not know how the government allows this so-called hoax of a educational institution get away with the things they do. There must be something fishy going on with the government to allow these things to go on by ripping off former and current students. Some say they can't locate employment after graduation. There is a reason behind that. Many employer's will not hire CTU grads because they know the school is a hoax. That their educational standards are way below other educational institutions. I cannot believe a school like this can stay in business. My best advice is to go to a non-profit school. I hope the young people now graduating high school will not even consider this school. There are many young folks out there that do not do their research when finding a school. I not only attended this school, but my son did. One of the smartest things my son has ever done was drop out of this worthless school. He is now paying back big money on student loan debt and has nothing to show for it. Well, even if he graduated he still wouldn't have had anything to show for it.
No, employer's will not hire CTU grads after speaking to so many companies. They said CTU is a pure joke and is only in the business to rip people off. Some companies will hire CTU grads and that is because they are desperate for employees. I don't know how much I can emphasize not to attend this hole.
What really give out a huge red flag is their massive advertising on television. That shows they are desperate. Well, they burned their bridges with many prospective students with their stealing money. So that is where all our money goes is for their advertising to beg and plead for people to get sucked into their school. It literally makes me sick. ITT is the same way. Massive advertising.
I really think that this school needs a class action lawsuit against them. I am all for it if anyone knows of one that is starting. I will be first in line to speak of this hole of a school. If anyone knows of a lawsuit then please post it on this website.
This is funny, but my son left a review on here. It was edited and a lot was left out by this very website. That makes one suspicious also. Are they protecting CTU? Could be or is CTU doing the editing. I would think they couldn't edit on this website. I can almost bet if anyone left a positive review on here it was done by a CTU employee. I have read a few and they are also suspicious reviews. That is also desperation. I just don't know how others and I can convince people to stay away from this so-called bogus school.

Within a few days of starting two classes, I realized that my life situation had changed and I could not, at that moment, handle the class load. Additionally, the online instructors were disrespectful and incompetent. I immediately called the office to withdraw. I was told that there was time to remain in the class for a few weeks and to see if it became easier. In the next class the instructor left, answered the door, and did not return for 20 minutes. This fact, along with the other demands of my life situation I contacted the office at CTU to withdraw. I did not receive a return call, and my e-mail was ignored. Eventually, when I was able to make contact with the office, I was advised that my withdrawal was one day too late.
For a time I disputed this, getting nowhere, with their heavy hitting sales staff! I even ask if the monies, obtained through a student loan, could be used toward later classes. This was also denied. Then for several years I demanded to see the cancellation policy. Finally, it became apparent that there is not a cancellation policy available for students in a handbook or even posted online. This brings me to attempting to bring a small claims action to attempt to recoup the thousands of dollars I am still struggling to repay on a Student Loan. But how do you bring a suit against an online school? Be aware, this is a FOR PROFIT university. They are thieves padding their pockets on students struggling to get an education with STUDENT LOANS.

This university is totally unprofessional and has a bunch of people working there that could care less about you as a student. They rush you into enrolling and automatically sign you up for all of your classes that you need to take to finish your degree. They will call you incessantly like telemarketers and keep harassing you until you sign up. I thought this was a bit strange but I knew I needed to finish my degree and their program in project management was just what I was looking for. I have tuition assistance through my job and I asked them for a itemized bill because my finance dept needed it to cut me a check. I had to withdraw from my third session with them because of health concerns.
When I decided to re-enter 2 sessions later, I still hadn't received the bill with the breakdown of charges of $5,000. I went through the re-entry process filled out all of my financial aid documents and began my first class back. 10 days and 3 papers into my first class, I receive an email at 1:30a saying that my enrollment was canceled. I called my Admissions Advisor the next day and she told me they un-enrolled me from my class because I owed them money. She said they notified me that I had to make a payment arrangement and pay 300 something dollars. I never received any notification that I needed or could pay that amount to stay enrolled. When I agreed to pay whatever amount to keep me enrolled, they told me what is done is done and I couldn't get back into my class. Then they had the nerve to ask me if I wanted to re-enter again. Now they have collectors calling me and threatening me. So I wasted all the time I spent on that class. Time away from my family that I have nothing to show for. I will never return to this university and I hope people who read this will not get involved with the terrible school.

I attended this school from 2009 to 2010. I am a former nurse of many years and have taken many college courses at reputable schools. When I attended CTU they would not allow some of my credits to transfer. Why? Because they wanted to suck money from me by taking courses I have already taken at other schools. Credits that could be transferred to any school, but CTU would not accept them. They do not accept them because they want you to take their courses to make more money off you. They pressure you when you first apply. Your phone will be ringing all the time which is a major red flag that they are desperate. Desperate not for students, but to suck money out of poor souls.
I attended this school and learned nothing. Funny I graduated with high honors, but feel I learned nothing. They have poor teaching practices. After graduation a few years later, someone telephoned me from CTU asking me if I had located a job. I told them no I did not because employers do not want to hire CTU graduates. They made no offer to assist me and hung up on me. They profess they will help you find a job after graduation. That is a hoax. They try to make it look as if they want to help you by telephoning you showing concern, but they really do not show any concern. They surely want to talk a person into returning to their school.
Why would I? Why would anyone want to attend a school that ripped him or her off? This school needs to be shut down, literally. The government needs to do their job and investigate this so-called fraud school. What is wrong with our government? I thought they were supposed to be monitoring these so-called fraudulent schools. After all the government is providing the loans. I think the government is involved in these school swindles so they can also take more of our money by paying back loans with interest. The government does not care about our education and only wants us to pay back money to them.
I returned to school because I am disabled. I wanted to work and have a job that would fit my disabilities. Now I find myself in the hole financially and no job. Paying back student loans that were paid for a fraudulent school. Moreover, it is fraudulent. Please whatever you do, find another school. This school is no good. Now they are advertising to the hilt on television, radio, etc, as they are desperate for students and want to continue robbing people. Please read other numerous comments that can be found all over the internet. There are numerous negative reviews and I have read a lot and all hold truth. Please believe what previous and current students are saying about this fraud institution.

I attended this school from 2005-2007. First of all, when I first signed up they didn't tell me what I had to take a course of how to take college classes online. I took out student loans that they said I need to do in order to pay for the school, and now I owe more on student loans than a doctor or lawyer. I owe more than $200,000 on student loans for 2 years of school. The books they sent never reflected the courses you took, I had to actually always research materials online, because the books were outdated, and when I said something they said the books were actually current, and they weren't so it was pointless to argue with them.
You pretty much taught yourself on the course. I have a Bachelor's Degree and I feel that I did not learn a thing. Although I maintained a 3.56 GPA, it wasn't hard to do because you just wrote papers. The instructors were a joke. I guess I should have been more careful as to what I signed from them because now I owe so much that I will never be debt free, I will never be able to buy a home, because of economic hardship and being unable to pay for my student loans. I was suppose to graduate in September 2007, but they sent me an email saying that I couldn't graduate until I completed the online course of how to take college classes online, which it was pointless, because I had already completed all the required classes.
By that time I was maxed out on student loans and they said if I didn't pay the $2,500 for the course I would not be able to graduate or get my certificate. I agreed, took the stupid online Grade 3 course and then they started to harass me to pay for the course, or again I would not be able to graduate with the rest of my class. I told them what was the point if the course should have been given to me in July of 2005 not the month that I was scheduled to graduate, and why would it also matter if it was a virtual graduation. Needless to say, they called and called for payment of that stupid course.
I graduated in December 2007, and I never got my diploma or anything saying I completed, because I had not paid them the $2500 for that stupid course. I never got job placement like they said I would. I never got help with resumes like they said I would, I just kept getting a bill for the $2500. Well at the time, I was struggling both financially and personally because my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I sent out job applications after applications and never got a call. Finally in 2010 I got a call from one company in Arizona. We moved to Arizona, but the company said they needed a copy of my degree so in order for me to get a copy, I had to pay Colorado Technical University. I then called CTU and paid the $2500 and they sent the diploma 2 weeks later.
Needless to say, Arizona was horrible, cost of living was bad so after 5 months we moved away because the job was not paying enough for me to make ends meet. I now sit with a BS in Business Administration, unable to obtain a job. I sent out tons of resumes out and I can't even get hired at Joann Fabrics for crying out loud. However, I have over $200,000 in student loans to these jokesters. I am trying to fight these off, because they lied and they Bachelor's Degree was a joke. It was deceiving from the get go, but I wanted to make my mom proud before she died that I decided to finish my degree.
Does anyone know of a lawsuit against CTU? I would like to take part in that. Because I sit here with a piece of paper that is not worth the ink its printed on. I think the Federal Government needs to step in and control these schools. I don't even know how they managed to convince me to sign so many school loans and not know that it would reach so high for a 2 year school. What is anyone out there doing to fight back and dispute the loans?

I should have dug deeper before I chose this university. They are a FOR PROFIT university with a 17% graduation rate - according to Fafsa.ed.gov website. DO NOT FALL FOR THESE SHYSTERS! I signed on to CTU in 2011 to go for my BSIT. With the smoke and mirrors and happy dances they painted for me during the recruitment process, I though that CTU was the place to be. It turns out that I was SO WRONG! I came to CTU with my Associate's degree in Computer Information Services. The set me up for the BSIT program. After getting all my transcripts as well as knowing that I was coming in with my Associate's Degree in that field, they failed to tell me that only 4 - yes, 4 - credits were all they would accept from my Associate's Degree.
They put me into a 200 unit - you read right, 200! - unit program to complete my BSIT. After 2 years, when I got a message from them that I had reached the half way point, I REALLY questioned the entire situation since it had not been made clear to me that it was 200 units to reach my BSIT despite having my ASIT degree. They were more than happy to take my FAFSA loan money for 2 years without making the 200 units fact clear. When I tried to contact them about this, as well as asking why only 4 units transferred, I only got voicemail and an automated email response. It took them 4 business days - typical amount of time - to give me anything beyond the automated system response.
Now, I will admit that it was my own stupidity that made me keep attending their online classes, and it was accentuated by their lack of live body communication, but all this "university" cares about is $$$. After getting that RIDICULOUS message about being at the half way point - while having 102.54 units completed - I started questioning their program. That is when I fully realized their expert level of BS. After not getting any worthwhile response from my academic advisor and then the financial advisor, I started realizing why CTU has just a 17% overall graduation rate. I transferred to Southern New Hampshire University and thought my troubles we over. Holy cow! Was I wrong!
CTU, while getting the disbursement from my Pell grant, dragged their feet on getting the $$$ from my Federal Student loans. After I had withdrawn, they decided to come after me for $1300 for the final session that I had attended - and this was AFTER getting the money from my Pell Grant. After TRYING to speak with CTU's financial aid people, all I got was a black lady who would only repeat "It's your decisions, sir" and "It's your responsibility, sir". The DMV is more helpful than this "AF lady". After talking on the phone with the people at FAFSA as well as the people at FedLoan.gov, who service the federal student loans, both of which said that the money was there and waiting for CTU, all they had to do was initiate the payment process from their end, CTU REFUSED to do what they needed to do since I had withdrawn from the "university" at the time I had contacted them.
Fast forward from November 2013 to January 2014... Because CTU has REFUSED to do what FAFSA and FedLoan has said needs to happen, they are preventing me from continuing my education at Southern New Hampshire University since they REFUSE to do what they need to initiate their final payment for OCTOBER 2013 and insist on only coming after me for the $1300. This has held up my FAFSA loan payments to SNHU and prevented me from starting the final part of my Bachelor's program with SNHU. These "people" are worse than the illegal welfare rats and other Obamacare leeches. Stay away from this JOKE of a university. They will only take your money and "give" you a kindergarten level education and leave you with the bill.
You cannot EVER get a live body on the phone nor can you get anyone beyond basic tech support on the live chat. And when their departments decide to grace you with a return call, all you get is some idiot who makes the Department of Motor Vehicles lackey seem helpful. Steer clear of this disaster of a "university". Find some other University who values student education more than profit. This "university" is even worse than that pathetic community college I grew up adjacent to. This "university" makes Obamacare look like a GREAT IDEA!

My AID ran out which I knew was going to happen, but we had agreement set up that after I get my second degree from there, my job would pay for it. All documents were sent to CTU and everything was fine until today. I am more than half way through getting my Bachelors and I was told there is nothing they can do but withdraw me because I don't have the money to pay them. They have no options for me to get a student loan because no lenders are willing to work with them I found out after speaking to 3 lenders. So what is my next step? I don't have one and I am out the degree and all the money I have to pay back. It is of course a little more difficult to learn online, because you only have yourself motivating yourself, lol. The instructors are there to help you, and the staff are supportive. I have learned that most people with good experiences do not go around leaving posts on a lot of review sites. The only ones who go around leaving posts are the ones looking for negative things to say about anything. I will be getting my Bachelors in IT specializing in Software application. I intend on getting my Masters in software engineering too!
The only issue I wish would change is the option to attend 11 week sessions or 5 week sessions like it used to be when I first enrolled. I also wish the school offered an electrical engineering degree online. I have attended a normal college, and another online school before and CTU is up there at the top of my list so far. Most people that have Financial aid issues do not bother to learn how the process goes, and get mad when they do not get all the money they "think" they are supposed to get. Of course if you stop attending in the middle of a session, your FA gets refunded by CTU to go to the other schools. Do you actually think you do not owe for what you attended? A lot of people get angry because they think they can live off the grant money.

I have been a student at CTU Online since 2010. I have earned my Associates in Science and Administrative Studies in December of 2011. I went on to acquire my Bachelors degree in Business Administration, due to graduate in September of 2013. I have one more class to go until I have completed my Bachelors. Two weeks I was told by CTU Online finance department that I owe them $1,176.00 and in order to receive my degree and transcripts I have to pay this amount. I asked them why they waited so long to tell me that I owe these funds, and asked them about my funding from the government and the lenders. They could not give me a direct answer. I asked who they are affiliated with to get the loan and they could not give me a answer. I called my student advisor and she was so rude I hung up on her.
I have checked several banks and lending institutions and no one deals with CTU, not even Sallie Mae, the leading lender for student loans. I am so confused about what I should do now. I worked very hard on my studies and not being able to obtain my degree and transcripts is hurting me emotionally, plus I want to know what is going on with this school that no one is willing to lend their students the needed funding. If anyone could point me in the direction that I need to go to get answers, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have been a student with CTU from 2-13-2011 to 3-26-2013 (student ID# **). On 3-26-2013, I called CTU to speak with Student Advisory regarding dropping all classes and changing to University of Texas. I asked the gentleman that I spoke with one major question: is it too late for me to drop my classes with CTU, because I wanted to transfer to University of Texas (I had already started a class, but only attended two classes, Intro & DB1)?
The guy specifically told me that it was not too late, and that I just made it in time (in order for me not to be changed any fees) and that I would NOT be penalized for dropping out. He put me on hold for about 15 minutes while he checked with Financial Aid to make sure that I was cleared. He came back and stated that everything was good (did not owe any money to CTU) and that he would start the procedure. Around 5-30-2013, I was sent an email from Higher One indicating that I had $1,300 available. I immediately called CTU and spoke with Financial Aid. I wanted to make sure that this was, in fact, my money. I was assured that yes, it was indeed my money and that everything was okay. He told me to go to Docufide.com in order to get my official transcripts transferred to UT.
On June 4, 2013, I submitted my FAFSA information for admission to University of Texas. On June 5, 2013, I went to Docufide.com to get the process started for my transcripts. I did not know my exact start and stop dates, so I called CTU. I was then informed from Student Advisory that my transcripts have a hold on them because I owe them $1,950. She could not explain it to me and transferred me to Student Accounts. Student Accounts also could not explain it to me and I was transferred to Financial Aid. The guy that I spoke with in Financial Aid also could not explain it to me and told me that I needed to speak with Student Accounts. I told him, "I already spoke with them and they transferred me to your department."
I finally spoke with someone who could explain what the $1,950 charge was for. I was told that I owed $1,950 because I dropped out of my class (Intro & DB1), and that CTU had to send a refund to Unsubsidized Financial Aid Funds; it was all because I dropped out. I explained everything to her (all of the above activities). She said that she does show where I called in and spoke with Financial Aid about this, and that they indeed told me that yes, that $1,300 was mine. She said, however, they made a mistake and that I owed $1,950 and that my transcripts will be put on hold until that amount was paid. I told her, "I don't have $1,950." She did not say a word. All she said was that I could call and make payment arrangements with CTU, but my transcripts were being put on hold until it was all paid.
Basically, I was lied to by every person (department) at CTU, and if they are doing this to me, how many other students are they doing this to? I worked hard at CTU, and have all good grades. It's not like I made bad grades and I am trying to stick someone with any of my school bills. I am 58 years old and just want to get a college education. What CTU did was wrong!!! Now, I have to put my college education on hold because they could not get their facts straight. $1,950 might not sound like a lot of money to most people, but when you don't have any, and are living from paycheck to paycheck at the age of 58, it might as well be a million dollars. Thank you.

I live in downtown San Francisco (tech central) and was inquiring about a local school for IT training. After declining interest, their sales calls CTU contacted me two more times. I realize the salesman is trying to make a living but I felt belittled by his condescending remarks while he showed a lack of knowledge about what he was selling. The $60k price tag was way unreasonable for a precarious online course. I did not enroll.

I started online classes at CTU 2/17/13 getting my BA in Criminal Justice with a concentration in human services. For starters, I felt rushed in the beginning but just wrote it off as normal because it was "college." Well, about the third phase, my laptop crashed. Keep in mind I had been on the phone daily with someone from the school. I was told to let my instructor know what was going on which I did by email from my cell phone. Well, since my laptop crashed, I haven't heard a word from anyone except emails telling me to go to the library and do my assignments. Please bear with me, as the details may not be in order because it’s all to frustrating to say the least.
I don't know about anyone else but on the loan apps there is one that asks you if you want the school to be in charge of the loan money or if you want to be in charge. I marked I wanted to be in charge because the way I see it is this - if I am the one taking the loan out, I am responsible to pay it back right? Well, "wrong." They not only ignored the fact that I told them I would handle it, but now they are telling me I owe $381.00 still and my first payment is due on the 15th of this month, $48 bucks a month until the $381.00 is paid off. I don't know what is going on here but it sounds pretty fishy to me. My advisor and I used to talk everyday sometimes 2-3 times a day. Then my laptop crashes and I can’t get a hold of her.
I have had financial aid contact me 2 times telling me they need photo ID and I needed to fax it to them. It seemed like once my laptop crashed, I was standing alone when I was promised a guide through day one till graduation. The only consequences were the ones I have had to suffer - major panic attacks, unneeded stress, major worry about not knowing about the money "I was loaned" because again, I can’t get a hold of anyone. I am pretty angry about this whole experience & have been sick with worry. I really don't know what to do at this point. Even the quote they gave me per credit hour is different than what I am paying. Thank you.

CTU gets your personal information and before you know it, they have you going from one dept to another and keep you on the phone making promises regarding their school that are not true. They charge you $50 for an application fee or sometimes they call it an enrollment fee. When you ask them just for general information about what subjects they teach and how much the costs are, you never get the cost information. Then before you know it, they have you signed up for classes you never agreed to and then they send you a bill. When you refuse to pay that bill, they have their henchmen call you and make threats. If anyone out there has had this school threaten you or mislead you, call and file a complaint with the Colorado state attorney general office. Also CTU will have you log in to see how their webpage works as a visitor/free sample tryout. That is how they say you are a student. It's fraud. That is how they charge you money for nothing. I have spoken to an attorney and filed a complaint. Also, I filed a complaint with the GAO. This school has been under investigation. File your complaint today. It's called Deceptive Trade Practices.

I am writing this letter because I recently graduated from Colorado Technical University Online with a BSN degree in Criminal Justice on July 19, 2011. To this day, I have not received my degree because the financial aid department says I owe the school $14,000. I do not believe that I owe them anything because my financial aid and my husband's GI bill benefits were supposed to cover my total tuition. Upon contacting the school, they informed me that in order for me to get my degree, I have to pay the said amount. I am on a fixed income and was not aware of this amount until I graduated. It was understood that they would take out any amount that was needed to pay my tuition from financial aid and the GI bill. I am 58 years young so in other words, I will never see my degree that I earned through sweat, tears and suffering.
As a young woman, I did not have the opportunity to go back to school so when I was able, I made a commitment to get my AA and BSN degree. Although, some jobs would rather have a copy of your degrees but the only thing I have is a copy of the graduation class listing. I feel that it is not fair to me that I have taken to further my education only to be told that the school will not be releasing my degree. My problem is how this school can get away with doing something like that. I believe that if you work hard at something especially when it comes to your well being such as your education or a promotion on a job, you have earned the right to see your accomplishments. In addition, I also requested to speak to a supervisor or manager within Student Accounts but I was refused. I feel that what has happened to me is like one big slap in the face. In other words, the school is actually telling me that you did all this work for nothing. I know you think that I am writing this letter out of anger.
To tell you the truth, I am mad as hell and anyone that has gone through something like this should be as well. It seems that our school system is set up for the unprivileged or the older people not to exceed but to fail in order for them to get their stats based on age, gender, race, etc. For me, this was the highlight of my life to have achieved this honor especially with my husband being sick and dying a month before I graduated. What I want is for you to take an interest and look at this school, Colorado Technical University, and other schools to see how things like this can happen. I am sure that I am not the only one this has happened to nor will I be the last. I look forward to hearing from you regarding this matter. Thank you in advance.

I signed up to receive information about their online university, because it seemed to be very convenient for me. They made me talk to an adviser almost every day for half an hour to an hour at a time just to get information on their program. Then, she made me email her my unofficial transcript to see what program would be best for me. She then sent me the application for the program which I had to pay $50 to fill out online. A week after they sent me the acceptance letter and all my sign up information and when I start classes, they called me and told me unfortunately, I do not meet the requirements. What type of university accepts a student into a degree program without making sure they qualify first? That's like hiring someone for a job then firing them a week later, because they don't have the right credentials.
The reason I did not qualify was for not having fully completed an associate’s degree, which is completed, just not on paper because graduation commencements have not taken place. Understandable, so I called my Dean of Students at my previous college. She so kindly said she would send a letter stating that my degree is fulfilled and completed. That still wasn't a guarantee to be let into the program, so I asked to speak to a supervisor because of the hoops I had been jumping through just to get declined. What a mistake that was! She could care less, and pointed the blame all on me because I did not qualify.
It is sad that the employees at the university are being penalized for the lack of concern of the leaders and the fact that they do not know how to take accountability for their university’s actions.

My name is Kimberly **, and I was a Criminal Justice Major, with a concentration in Human Resource. I attended CTU for the 2010-2011 school year. I was receiving a Direct Subsidized and Direct In-Subsidized Loans to pay for my education. I was also receiving a Pell Grant. I had a student portal accessible through CTU, where I could sign into that, documented my funds disbursement dates and the total amounts of each. CTU would grab the Direct Loan disbursements as soon as they were posted, not knowing or caring if I was definitely going to take a course or not.
Once, they took it so fast, then had to refund the money because I dropped a class. Also, I was receiving a Pell Grant. I was in a class that started in April 2011 and ended on June 18, 2011. I was supposed to receive my last Pell Grant disbursement on May 23, 2011 for $1,324.00 but I never received it. Then on June 15, 2011, I had (2) Direct Loan disbursements: one for $581.00, and the other for $995.00. I never received these funds as of today's date. I had a zero balance with CTU, and these funds were desperately needed by me, because I was a non-traditional student, living off campus and I was using part of my loans for rent while attending. I lost my housing because CTU withheld my funds for no legitimate reason. I became homeless, and had to withdraw from CTU, and leave Colorado Springs.
I called, wrote numerous emails and they stopped responding to me, and I was told that the staff at CTU was told by the school President, Bentley Raybern to not talk to me, or take my calls. I was then referred to the Colorado Technical University's attorney, by the name of Mark ** out of New York. This attorney kept texting and emailing me even when I told him to stop. I finally told him that I did not know who he was, and that I never contracted with him. I told him if he did not stop harassing me, I would file charges of "Harassment Through Telecommunication", and after 4-5 emails and telephone calls, he stopped. To today's date, November 27, 2011, I have yet to receive any of this money that I signed a "Master Promissory Note” for.
I have called the Denver Dept. Of Education, my lender Great Lakes & their Ombudsman, The Denver Office of Inspector General, Denver Office of School Participation, and I was totally beside myself at the responses and put offs I received. Everybody kept putting me off on someone else, passing the buck, and one person, (Bridget **), kept telling me one lie after another. First, that she did not handle financial aid matters, and sent me away on a frustrating journey that after months, led right back to her office on October 19, 2011. On this day, Bridget told me she had more questions she needed answers to from CTU, and she was waiting for them to get back in touch with her. On October 21, 2011, something told me to call her back. Guess what? Bridget had a voicemail on her extension saying that she would no longer be working for the Dept. Of Education.
I was truly very upset at the time she wasted of mine. Two days before, she knew she would no longer, so my question is "Why?". I eventually have to pay back money I never received! What is wrong with this picture? Somebody is embezzling big time, and if they did it to me, how many others, from their other schools and the other (3) CTU campuses in Colorado are they doing the same thing to? That comes down to a lot of money! I also learned, through research, that CTU as well as other 4 profit schools fall under the umbrella of a corporation out of Schaumburg, Il. who govern other schools.
Someone needs to investigate this school. I don't have the money to hire a lawyer. I am talking to a reporter about doing my story, and I am going to write a letter detailing what happened to me, mass produce it, and mass mail them, hitting every senator, congressman, & legislator that I can, in hopes that the government will wake up and demand to have an accounting of how these schools use and disburse their government money, when it comes to educational funding. If you have any suggestions of who I can talk to that can maybe help me get my funds, or make them return the funds they were not entitled to, I would be eternally grateful.

I enrolled in this school on 08/2010. I have had so many problems that I have decided to cease my enrollment and attend elsewhere in the fall. At this time, the school has grant money that should be refunded to me, that they are disguising as Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loan funds. I am at a zero balance, I don't owe them anything. I won't be completely finished until tomorrow, 06/18/2011. They sent me a letter last month saying that they reported to my lender that I was no longer enrolled.
Also, this school has had my grant funds since 01/2011, but kept those funds and kept pulling from my loan funds, which I eventually have to pay back. Now, they still have in their possession $1,576.00 of my refund of my Pell Grant funds. I am at a 0 balance and it should have been paid to me or used toward my tuition back in May 2011. Instead, they took my loans and held onto my Pell Grant. I am currently fighting with Colorado Technical University to release my funds. Can you help me or tell me who else I can contact? I really need these funds now. I am a non-traditional student, living off campus.

The CTU Online website publicizes that it's accredited by North Central Association. And, after reading the NCA's accreditation standards I was impressed because the standards state the school will ensure that it provides evidence of student learning and teaching effectiveness, values and supports effective teaching, creates an effective learning environment and uses resources to support student learning and effective teaching. After reading the accreditation standards, I was sold on CTU. Barry and I enrolled and were sent great books that seemed to reinforce the school's commitment to effective adult learning. The books included review exercises and it had the answers to the review questions so we could ensure we understood what was being taught before submitting assignments for a grade.
The Algebra professor (James **) refused to use the books and only lectured on bizarre subjects such as 6 Basic Functions, which I could not find in any Algebra book or on the Internet. My husband (Barry) and I complained to the school for 2 weeks without results. He and I can only conclude that the school never had any intention of providing an effective learning environment and, that we were led to believe the school would provide an effective learning environment so we would sign the financial aid papers so the school would get paid. A call from Candice ** (at CTU) confirmed this.
On September 17, 2005, I sent an email requesting to be withdrawn from CTU and that the money be returned to the applicable agencies. Candice said that the school had received money for the entire first quarter and that none of the money would be refunded. In all the school received $617.00 Pell Grant, $3,394.03 in Stafford Loan money and $106.00 from my pocket (which does not include the money received for my husband, Barry **). I have forwarded a complaint to the US Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission regarding the Federal Grant money; but, I need to get the other $3501 paid.
NOTE: Below is a copy Mr. Adair's response to me when I asked him to please use the book so that I could understand what I am doing and pass the test. "The textbook that has been selected for this course is bad, very bad. It is the same textbook that was sent to me when I started in January. I have tried every term to ask for a different text. It has unfortunately fallen on ears that will not listen. There are other good textbooks out there. I have no solution for your problems. My only suggestion is to do a "Google" or "Yahoo" search over synthetic division and factoring. I am sorry I cannot be more help."

Today is October 17, 2003; two weeks ago an "admissions advisor" advised me to apply for CTU Online program. I also told him that I am applying for financial aid from other universities and waiting for the results. He told me that if I apply for CTU Online, CTU will provide me with financial aid. I doubt it, but the "admissions advisor" told that I can submit the application and if my application is approved then I would decide to study at CTU or other university later. He keeps calling three or four times a day with that advice. I thought that he is a good advisor, I may trust him and apply for the school. He said that CTU will charge only $50 for application fee to my credit card (I believe him because it is a normal application fee like all other schools). So I trusted him, and gave him my credit card number after asking him to confirm with me that he will charge me for $50 only, no more no less.
One week later, I notice that my credit card was charged twice $50 each, a total of $100. But it is not a real problem. The real problem is they call me and said that they cannot help with me my financial aid and switch me to cash option. It means that they will charge me $1440 every month for the next 15 months. Even though, I have not submitted any document that support my application (like B.S. transcript, and so on) nor enroll in to the program.
I did not enroll in to the program yet, and the program hasn't started yet. It is scheduled to start on November 15, 2003. But now they said that I owe them the cost of the program and start charging me for that by using my credit card information without my acknowledge. I am trying to email, mail and call them to ask them to cancel my application (not the enrollment, I did not enroll into the program yet) but I've received no reply. I decided to report to my credit card company, dispute their charges and cancel my credit card account. I don't know what will be next actions that I need to take to get out of this problem. I just want to share with you my personal experience with CTU Online.
