Making the decision to move my son to Connections Academy was extremely difficult. However, I do not regret it one bit. He went from an average or below average student to all A's & B's. He is thriving with the more individualized attention from teachers, easy communication, and fun of a more stress free environment. He has more time to do things like sports, and lessons. He has gained independence, and confidence in just the one year already.

Hi Stacey. Thank you for your review! Change can be scary sometimes, but we're glad you're happy with your decision, and we're thrilled that your son is making so much progress! ~Bri

This was our 1st year homeschooling. At first it was a rocky start for me as the learning coach, new to homeschooling my child but with the daily class check-ins & 1 on 1 check-ins regularly with my daughter's assigned teacher & all the learning coach tools available, I was able to get the hang of it. The teacher has been a tremendous help with assisting us in settling in to homeschool. My daughter has had some struggles with learning to read in school. I was worried that it would affect her learning all together. However, with the help of her teacher, we discussed my concerns about this & she was able to put her in a small reading group where she taught her some extra reading techniques & she set her up with extra online reading sites that give her activities to do to practice even more.
From the test to see her level at the start until now she has improved her reading so much within the 1st 6 months. So, I was able to see how well we were doing with homeschool. If we felt like we were struggling with a particular section of a subject, we were able to ask the teacher for assistance & she was able to send things to help or direct us to a site that we could use to learn a little better. I did read some of the other reviews and see other parents are saying they had to do the teaching & there were teachers. It is my understanding that this is a homeschool that is just done online instead. When you homeschool your child, you are the teacher. So, if you're looking more along the lines of distance learning & not homeschool this might not be what you are looking for.
This homeschool program does at least have teachers that meet with your children, get involved & are very helpful when you are struggling to teach your child & they have things to help you as well. The lessons have many tools available to walk you through teaching each assignment, so you don't have to know everything. There are a lot of quizzes but the % of each lesson with a small quiz does not weigh heavy in the overall % of the grade like the actual tests for the units. They are there to help you see if your child understands the lesson you just went through with them or if they need a little more instruction on that section. The learning on your own time is also accurate. I cannot sit down every day to teach my child on set days & times because I am a full-time working mom.
As long as we are doing the hours she is supposed to be doing & working through the assignments throughout the week there are no problems. My child has been behind on lessons a couple times but as long as we showed that we were working on them even if 1 took longer to grasp & we caught up as we were able, they don't mark her behind for that. She has not been marked as, "Not on track," once because we were doing the assignments, putting in the hours & talking through it with the teacher, who checks in to see if we're good or if she can help with anything.
I am very impressed & the only thing I am struggling with is the decision of, if I let her go back to brick & mortar school now that she has had her vaccine, like we originally planned or keep her in MNCA because learning at her own pace has given her the ability to excel better than she was with a teacher that has 29 other kids & can't always take the time to do 1 on 1 & help when she struggled. She is now wanting to stay in homeschool as well, since she has seen how well she can do with more 1 on 1 teaching. I would & have already, recommended this to others & I know of at least 1 that decided to join MNCA & is also having a great experience here.

Hi Christina. Thank you for your feedback! We're glad your daughter has been able to get additional support from her teacher, and we thank you for recommending us to other families. We know it can be a challenge sometimes for busy parents to get into a groove to best support their child, but it sounds like you were able to figure out what works for you both. We hope we get the opportunity to work with you again next year. Have a great summer! ~Bri

I have nothing bad to say Connections Academy has been a great experience for my son. He has received a lot of help. He is autistic none verbal. He gets services that the County that I live in has not provided for my son. He gets speech and OT therapy. The school has been very helpful and understanding.

I have been more than happy with Connections Academy. My granddaughter struggled with bullies and anxiety in the brick-and-mortar school. She is a different kid being able to home school. It not that it is easy. It is a lot of work for both Caretaker and Student but the communication from the school and Teachers themselves is amazing. They are really invested in helping your child succeed. We will continue to online school next year and plan on staying with Connections Academy.

Hi Naomi. We're happy to hear your granddaughter is doing better now that she's with us. Thank you for acknowledging our investment in our students, and we can't wait to see you again next year! ~Bri

My seventh and ninth graders are completing their first year at CA Connections Academy and we have had a fabulous year. The curriculum challenges them enough to keep them in learning mode and their classes were selected based on their levels. Customized! The teachers are so kind and supportive, and offer excellent feedback. Learning is provided in various formats so your child can choose what works best for them. As teenagers, they can sleep in as needed, and take all the time they need to finish assignments and do a good job on them.
Once you realize you can control your day instead of an institution controlling it, there is no going back. My kids are learning to harness their own power to pursue hobbies and skills they are interested in, while earning top grades and feeling good about their education. We recommend this school for anyone who would like to take control of their life but also do it in the confines of an accredited school.

Hi Kelda. That's great your students have been able to take full advantage of our program's flexibility. Thank you for the recommendation and 5-star review! ~Bri

This is our second year with Connections Academy and we have been thrilled with our experience. 1. The curriculum is fantastic. Each lesson clearly guides learners through the readings, videos, audios, workbooks, activities, quizzes, and assessments each day. For myself (the Learning Coach), I have even more detailed information I can reference to learn more about what and how my student is learning. 2. The teachers are knowledgeable, helpful, prompt in responding, and really know how to get groups of kids active and engaged when they have LiveLessons.
I also love the time my student gets to spend working with the teachers one-on-one. Even though this is a virtual school, my student still feels a connection to the teachers and classmates. 3. The flexibility to spend more time on topics my student needs and tailor learning experiences is wonderful. This is definitely set-up for each individual learner to move at their pace and dive deeper into topics as needed. 4. The events students have the option to attend are very nice and it's amazing how the teachers can manage and engage hundreds of kids at a time online in one large session. Overall, we are enjoying our time with Connections Academy!

Our journey started in 2020 with the Covid Pandemic bearing down upon us as a family. Our son had a really hard time with bullying in our local public school and we were desperate to find a solution for our family. We are so happy we found Connections Academy. This is our second year and our son has decided to stay enrolled for his Junior year. He is excelling in his classes and enjoys learning this way. The teachers and staff are beyond helpful and kind. They are great teachers who try really hard to bring the lessons to life in live lessons. We have excellent communication with them and I always know where my son is at in his learning through their website. I can sit in on a Live Lesson if I want to and the lessons are accurate and are not political like the public school was. My son can set his own learning schedule and take breaks as needed. Connections Academy has been a breath of fresh air. We highly recommend them as a family.

Thank you for your feedback, Paula. It means a lot. We're thrilled your son has decided to stay with us for another year! ~Bri

SC Connections Academy has been a blessing for my daughter and I. She has always struggled in the traditional school atmosphere. When COVID hit and students had to be home I saw that she was doing better and becoming more independent. The decision to switch this year was a no brainer. The teacher and support staff have been amazing and always respond or reach out when needed. Wish we had made the switch sooner.

My child joined Connections Academy at the start 2020 school year due to Covid. This is a comprehensive and exceptional curriculum. The support from the teachers and administration is unmatched if you reach out with the mindset to work with them to get help. This is not a leave it to your child curriculum. Your child will need your guidance and support throughout. My child has excelled with Connections Academy to be above my local school system. Connections allows a child to work at their pace with a minimum of the state standards for the student's abilities (IEP/504/standard/gifted). If you have a gifted child they allow your child to work and advance at their pace within the limits of completing the required work and demonstrating successful implementation of the subject matter.

Hi Ann. Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback share what it looks like to be in our school. We hope to see you again next year! ~Bri

This is still very true and I wanted to share it here.... I still think home school is different, (weird is the word that pops in my headfirst actually) kids are weird, parents say weird things like "use your walking feet" or "inside voices" etc. If you walk by my house in the middle of the day, you'll hear something along the lines of “I'm begging you to just sit and do some school” or "shut it." or "Keep running, you can cry to yourself when you get hurt." etc. So many different outcomes and experiences. Overall, it's overwhelming as anything most days. It is NOT easy. BUT It was MY CHOICE. (And my husband's, right.) I hated our public school more than I liked my sanity, time, brain, sleep, patience, All of it. So, I choose. I was lucky enough to have that choice. (ok I'll thank my husband for giving me that option.) I DID.
NOW, you can't work because kids can't go to school, can't go to childcare, you can't talk closely to your neighbors. You can't go to your mom's, sister's, brother's, mothers-in-law, (OK fine maybe that wouldn't be your choice anyway, no one's that weird. Home school or not.) You can't walk within 6ft of any person anywhere. So, remember that when you're pumping gas even. Can't go to events of any kind. Can't go to the dentist (yup, didn't think of that one till it was needed, not OK.) Can't buy the higher demand or more common food/items you want, etc. Can’t can't can't.... In just a few weeks. You can't leave your home without a face mask. If you must go out at all. Your choices aren't yours.
YOU. Yes, all of you gave me that choice and you will never understand how much it means. I didn't, I brushed it off like nothing. It has been one of the most rewarding things I have done so far. It IS also the Hardest. My son is in 7th grade and daughter in 1st. Having them in public preschools and elementary schools since both were 2years old. This year we CHOOSE to keep them home. I picked REACH because it followed the same "guidelines" as public school. I mean who knew if I could pull it off. I wanted to be able to ship them right back to our public school if I couldn't.
With how crazy prepared REACH was, I honestly had/have NO issues. Getting kids into a new routine of course was/is always a little challenge. The Teachers however made that easier. The advice, patience, attention, commitment, overall care is amazing. You will never understand how each teacher affected each student in this school no matter how many times we share the appreciation. I mean the Step-by-Step Learning Coach Tips at the bottom of each page in each lesson for my first grader. The Learning Coach sessions and fellow parents’ comments/questions on the Message board are so helpful. Some of what I read are issues I have, like in every single way, but would never ask. Again helpful. There are so many more things I can say. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

My children are about to complete their first year with Connections Academy, and I have literally nothing too bad to say about the school. This has been such an easy transition for them and it reinforced how we can prioritize education and family bonds at the same time. The pandemic allowed us to experience the online possibility, and I knew with the state of our country sending them back into the schools would not be a healthy choice. Our neighbor recommended this school and I am so grateful to have had that interaction with her, because this has been a breath of fresh air that we as a family needed. My kids are learning more with more challenging curriculum, they have options for extracurricular activities, field trips, elective courses, and a flexible schedule that allows them to develop proactive time management skills.
As kids of color, they do not have the outside noise that in-person school presented. There is no gesturing for the attention of the teacher or hopes of fair treatment. This is such an uplifting environment, and levels the playing field so they can simply focus on excelling and learning. My children are both in the Gifted program and they have found the course work to be challenging which I could not say about the in-person education. As a parent, I have a sense of pride that I took the initiative to look into the school and stepped out on faith and enrolled them. I have more insight in their day-to-day activities, their weekly coursework, and this school has given control back to me as a parent to instill my morals and belief systems into my kids.
The word 'connection' goes beyond education-- it has allowed our family connection to strengthen during such a critical time in their development into young adults. I look at the news and am overwhelmed by the reporting of depression, drugs, suicide in young adults--going back in-person has not proven to help the youth. These kids need their parents love, attention, and connection in a world where they need to be seen and heard-- or they will find it in other things that could be detrimental long term.
I am a very proud Connections Academy mom! I encourage anyone that is not satisfied with the experience they are currently having with the in-person public education system to give this school a shot. The staff is always easy to work with and technical support is on-top of any issue I ran into. In the beginning, the change can feel scary but just trust the process and watch the learning coach short videos for guidance. The long term impact this experience will have on our kids and family unit is priceless--I am filled with gratitude and would like to thank all that have decided to teach with this school because you are making a real difference.

Hi Alexandra. Thank you for your review and for taking that leap of faith and enrolling your students! We are so glad to hear that our program has worked well for your family and we hope to see you again next year. Have a great summer! ~Bri

I and my child have been with Ohio Connections Academy for 3 years now, next year we are re-enrolling. Plus I am enrolling my other child next year into grade K. We are very pleased with the teachers and staff. They are always prompt about helping my child or me whenever we have questions. The work is not too stressful for my child or me and the time is flexible. We just really are overall very happy with this school.
My child was in our local B&M school and was failing and being bullied now he is at the 98 percentile for his age group and is getting mostly A's and maybe the occasional B. We hope to continue his and his sisters' learning at this school. I can't say it is the best fit for every family but it is a wonderful fit for my family. If your kid('s) are struggling in B&M schools or your family needs more flexibility, and have someone that can be there as their Learning Coach of course more hours are needed to be dedicated for younger grades as younger students need more help. Then I would definitely recommend giving this school a chance.

Hi Stephanie. Thank you for your review and for continuing to choose us! We agree that education is not a one-size-fits-all, and online school may not be the best fit for every family, but we're glad we are for your family. 98 percentile? Wow - that's amazing! We hope you have a great rest of the year and fun summer! ~Bri

After a rough 2 1/2 years with my daughter acting out and getting into trouble at school I finally made the decision to pull her out the beginning of the 2nd semester of her freshman year. At first I wasn't sure if it was the best decision or if my girl would do any better. But I was so wrong!! Fast forward to today, she is finishing up the last class of her Junior year, 1 month ahead of time! Not only that but she will start her Senior year with nearly a 4.0 GPA!! She is enrolled in concurrent college courses next year. I'll be honest at one point I didn't think that my daughter would even make it to her Junior year, but now we're planning Senior pictures and she has one amazing future ahead of her!! The teachers, counselors and staff are so supportive and they will go out of their way to make sure that your child as well as yourself has everything you both need to succeed. I will be forever grateful for Connections Academy.

I heard about Connections YEARS ago when my boys were little but at the time worked full time outside the home, so it wouldn't work for me, but I was intrigued with the idea. As my younger son was about to enter middle school, we were unable to get him into the location that worked best for our schedules, plus he'd been having issues with being bullied in public school, and I had started to look at Connections as an option since he's older and more independent now. We signed him up to start in the fall of 2020 - then COVID hit. The school reopened enrollment for Spring 2020 and we thought let's give it a try! NIGHT AND DAY compared to the B&M offerings for remote learning. Loved the variety of classes and the ease of logging on when it worked for us. My older son (high school) saw how much easier things were for his brother and opted to join him.
It is not perfect for everyone. It does take a LOT more work on the parent's part (as a Learning Coach) and I honestly am not sure I could hack it if I had younger children. But for my two teen sons, it allows so much flexibility for extracurricular activities, no "homework", they can sleep in, stay up late working, get caught up on weekends, whatever. Almost all of the teachers have been amazing, very quick to reply to concerns or questions, open to one-on-one meetings or phone calls if a topic is tougher, really great and positive responses.
Live Lessons are recorded so they can opt out if they don't feel they need the extra input or listen to a difficult/complicated part repeatedly as needed, without affecting the teacher or the rest of the class. The school encourages corrections to regain credit on larger assignments or tests, which in turn encourages them to go back and get a better understanding if they had trouble with a concept. Some subjects are hard doing in this way - foreign language for example is tough unless someone in the home can support this. Not impossible, but definitely a harder row to hoe.
I've been very happy with this option for our family, and would encourage anyone to reach out to talk to them to see if it might work for your family. They were very pleasant during my repeated telephone inquiries early on, and worked to make sure we were comfortable with the process. In our area, this is a free public school option, so no out of pocket costs were incurred, and the school supplied a laptop, science and art supplies, and books that were needed, though almost all books were also available online.

Hi Tawny. Thank you so much for sharing your story! We're glad you're having a good experience with us, and we hope to see you again next year! ~Bri

This is our first year with Connections Academy (son is in sixth grade), and we will be back next year. It has taken a while for us to get used to it and I have had to work with him a lot to keep him focused. If he was in brick and mortar school I would be spending the same amount of time with him doing schoolwork, this way is better because he can work at his own pace. The only problem I have with this school is all the Social Justice, some is included in the work, most of it is in the activities/groups. Everyone should feel like they belong and not made to feel bad about who they are. The teachers are great!!

We used Connections Academy when the pandemic hit in 2020. Describing our brick-and-mortar's response to school closure was sad is a gross understatement. Instruction in academics was practically non-existent. I knew I had to act fast so I enrolled my child into Connections Academy. I am so happy I did. We already had problems with our public school - my kiddo is Gifted and Talented, and hardly ever did our teachers give her the challenge she needed. They seem to focus 100% of their attention and energy on the problem kids who constantly disrupt, display bad behavior, bully - to the point of building up tolerance for disruption, defiance and noise.
Connections Academy's independent and virtual structure allowed for me kid to get away from all of that nonsense and focus on what school is meant to be - learning and academics. We have one Live Lesson a day to get some social interaction and teachers can be scheduled during their open office hours so my kiddo can get some one-on-one help. The lesson plan is also flexible, and she can make up lessons on the weekend or at night, if we were to do a side trip anywhere. This program is not for everyone, but if you have a child who is self-directed, independent and accountable, I would seriously give CA a strong consideration. (Being able to put my GT kid in a Math 2 grades advanced is a big plus as well!)

Hi Alice. It was a rough time for everyone at the beginning of the pandemic. Luckily, Connections Academy has been around for a long time. We didn't need to skip a beat since our staff and students already had the tools in place to thrive online. ~Bri

We are so glad we made the choice to switch to Connections Academy. I have access to ALL content and can view ALL Live Lessons. One thing I appreciated most was concerning an evolution unit. Beforehand, the teacher reached out explaining how it would be taught (strictly scientific and not by opinion). She also let parents know she was sensitive to the fact that the content may not be what the student and their families believe. Every student was given the opportunity to answer questions scientifically as taught and with a rebuttal for their own beliefs. We have 2 older children who have already graduated high school and I can tell you, I have NEVER had a brick and mortar teacher inform us of the content being taught let alone allowing the children to state their case.
If you are looking to monitor the content that is being taught to your child, Connections Academy is for you. As for teachers, I have never had a problem with teachers responding. I have even been contacted by the teacher herself, just to check in. Some reviews were almost a deterrent for us. When you read them remember that you will be your child’s learning coach. You will be required to make sure lessons etc are being done. That is the sacrifice that you will make for your child not sitting in a standard classroom, being taught content that you may never know for 8 hrs a day. If you are not doing these things and understand the commitment, you would probably feel the way that some parents felt when they left the negative comment.
If you are willing and able to make the commitment, CA is right for you. For those negative reviews about any hands on experiments, lesson add on etc, you may be required, you have the freedom to change them up. The main thing is that the lesson is completed and the material is understood. Not all students learn the same and CA understands that, working with you not against you. We are so glad we made the choice to switch to Connections Academy.

Hi Kim. Thank you for your insight. The beauty of our program is that it allows parents to be more involved and focus on the things that are important to them. As students get older, students typically need less parent involvement, but the ability to monitor your child's progress is still there. Thank you for your commitment to your student's success. We really value our Learning Coaches and recognize that great things happen when Learning Coaches, teachers, and students work together. ~Bri

My son was so unhappy with our local school system. My son and I love the flexibility and safety of learning online! The teachers are wonderful. My son has been attending Washington Connections Academy for two years. It was the best decision that I have made for my son. He has attended one year of elementary and one year of middle school. I honestly, wasn't sure what to expect with the transition between elementary and middle school. It has been nearly flawless. The teachers and staff have been amazing in working with his IEP. He has Type 1 Diabetes and ADHD. We love the flexibility of working online. There are days when my son doesn't feel well and will sleep during the day and do his schoolwork at night. You aren't able to do that with a regular brick and mortar school. He is getting the best grades he ever has. If I have questions or concerns the staff actually address them in a timely manner. It was 6th grade year, the first year of middle school when our son had crippling anxiety and went through intensive therapy. When it was time to go back to school for 7th grade my husband and I found Connections Academy. They were open to his needs and understand who he is. You see our son was bullied by his 2nd grade teacher which cause PTSD/Trauma. During the year of therapy he was tested in many things. The results he is an Uber genius and an Empath so he feels emotions and that can be too much. He did not trust the teachers and had a hard time during monthly check ins, But he was soaring and could do his work in a safe place.
With all that goes on in the schools we felt he would do better where he felt safe. He is now in 10th grade with connections and has made great improvement on the trust issues. He actually talks to the teachers. To be honest if it were not for Connections Academy I do not if we would still have our son or not. They saved him and he can learn and thrive.
The parent group of Facebook is amazing, you can reach to help or get support from other parents that are with the school. Our son is doing amazing and has found his career path in digital photography. He fell in love with being behind the camera. His teacher loves his works and is very supportive in his passion. He was able to take American sign language as his second language and thrived in that. He plans to stay with connections through graduation. Connections Academy truly saved our son and we have the control to be his learning coach and be more involved in his education.

I find Connections Academy to be a wonderful Cyber Charter Educational Experience. If a parent gave Connections a bad review it's because they didn't want to do the work. Connections Academy goes out of its way to give its students all the tools they need to be successful. However, it is up to the learning coach to be disciplined and responsible making sure their student attends live their classes, studies and utilizes all the tools given to them. It's just not for lazy parents or students. You really have to be disciplined.

Thank you so much for the positive feedback! As you said, the Learning Coach role is vital to the student's success. While it can feel like a lot of responsibility at times, we do our very best to make it as easy as possible and provide lots of resources to help our Learning Coaches help their students thrive. ~Bri

After being put behind by his teachers and being bullied, I pulled my child from his school district assigned school and into Colorado Connections Academy. He is bright, and flourishing and happy. It's a great alternative as well to avoid Covid and flu since many parents send their sick kids to public school all the time. We will continue with the Colorado Connections Academy courses. We are very pleased with it.

We are glad that you and your student are part of the Colorado Connections Academy family. We understand how scary that must have been, not only for your student but also for yourself. It's so good to hear that he's doing well and is happy. We hope he has a great second semester! ~Kim

Teachers only teach subjects for one hour per week live per subject. The kids get different assignments with each subject on different topics everyday. I have transferred my son to K12 which has teachers teach live everyday with homework help daily. Daily assignments parallel weekly topics. Pearson is not worth the money as parents will end up being the student’s teacher (full-time). They will bill you for remaining months even if your student doesn’t attend anymore.

Hi Tafari. I’m sorry our program wasn’t a good fit for your family. Our program is designed to be more independent so that students work at their own pace. You can find details of our Return Policy here: www.pearsononlineacademy.com/enroll/academy-return-policy. I hope that helps clarify your concerns. Again, I’m sorry we weren’t a good fit, but wish you well in your future endeavors. ~Kim

As of this year my 2 kids must do a live lesson everyday, which is a bunch of bologna because I'm my kids teacher and all these live lesson do is get in my child way of doing his lessons. Now it take twice as long to get lessons and and anything they do in the live lesson isn't even noticed. These teachers are in the way of my kids learning and now we are doing homework till about 8pm.

Hi Vicktoria. I'm so sorry to hear that you're frustrated. I'd like to put you in touch with someone from the school who can talk with you about your students' schedule and how we might be able to help make things more manageable. Please check the private response I sent on 10/27 for contact information so we can get your student some help. ~Kim
