I am currently enrolled in Capella's Flex Path DNP program. My advice: (1) If you enroll in this program, go very fast with your first seven to eight courses because Capella will slow you down once you hit 8045, 9100, and all 9000 level courses. Note: The faster you finish coursework, the cheaper the program will be and the quicker you will finish the degree. (2) I believe Capella slows you down to make more money. Consider a school that cares about their students. (3) Look at the other reviews here. We cannot all be deceiving you.

Complaints: (1) If your instructor grades slowly, he/she will slow your progress down. (2) Capella needs a class for the IRB process, as there is no guidance with the IRB process until you get denied. Once you get denied, the advice for changing your IRB is still minimal. My advice is to go to another school. If I were not in so deep, I would change schools. So, my goal is to prevent someone from experiencing the torment at this school.

I enrolled in 2021 for the flex path program. I should have done my research before enrolling. I started with completing an interest form and the response from the "university" was overwhelming. I quickly received a text message and more text, calls and emails daily. I sent my transcripts from my prior colleges and credits were given. I applied for financial aid, totally aware that I didn't think much aid would be available. Let's just say, I spent way too much time on my associates degree! I proceeded with enrollment based upon what financial aid would be available. I had a start date for classes and still no answer on financial aid. I expressed my concerns numerous times stating that I could not afford the school without aid. When class officially started, my advisor or whatever they call themselves simply would say contact the aid office. Which I did numerous times with a response of we are working on it or no return call.

The class was up and running, I signed in and was shocked by what was being offered. The class looked like a joke and I instantly knew that I needed out. I dropped the class within the time allowed for no charge. I still had no answer on financial aid. I thought all was good. I continued to get emails about not participating in class. I was confused and did more researched and realized that I had to request a unenrollment from the program. Immediately did that, mind you this information wasn't verbally told to me despite my constant concern about financial aid. Needless to say 4 years later I am now in collections for a program I didn't attend. I contacted the school and was told that my request to leave the program was 2 days past the deadline. "If you would have accepted the financial aid, you wouldn't have to pay " Uhm...that is called a loan that I still have to pay.

All in all, save the money and time and do not attend this "accredited university." It starts out well and quickly turns. The communication is great at first, but once you are in they hold you at bay until that infamous date approaches and you pay regardless. How convenient they took 4 years to take me to collection. Most people don't keep documents on hand for 4 years, especially when you are not aware of any debt. I never received anything saying I owed money. I do have the majority of my email communication. The internal communication at Capella is lagging...intentional? I received threats of dropping me from the class for over a month after I left. They want your money! If you do decide to enroll make sure you document everything.

Do not attend this university for a doctoral degree. I attended this university during the pandemic and started in July of 2021 and was on my way to being completed in 2024 with a PhD in Behavioral Analysis. During this time not only did I get COVID, but I also had major surgery and still managed to get my assignments in and graded. By the time that I was in the Comprehensive Examination course my GPA was a 3.7. This is where my problems started; I took the course twice. The first time I did not pass the course and missed it by a few points. Instead of my counselor advising me on how to proceed by way of either taking a break and coming back to do the course and go over what the readers suggested, she just rescheduled me for the course again. The second time around I failed miserably. Not only did I fail, but I was insulted by the readers.

The Comprehensive Examination is not a test in which is multiple choice or simple answers; it is full on writing. You have three questions, and each question cannot have any more than seventeen pages which does not include the references. The comments from the readers were less than professional and asked for items that the examination questions did not ask. Mind you, before getting to this point in the doctoral journey, we have to take residency courses, and our dissertation topics are approved beforehand.

We are not assigned to anyone who can help us along the way with research or dissertation until after we pass this course. With me having taken the course twice and did not pass the second time I had to file an appeal. I had seven days I believe it was to submit an appeal, and no one could help me: not a soul, not even my counselor. So, what was her purpose? Because she could not guide me in any direction. The catalog only has information for appealing grades on an undergrad level, but nothing for the doctoral program. I spent three days trying to figure it before I found someone who was nice enough to give me some insight. No one could tell me the percentage of students who had filed an appeal, and it had been approved or if anyone had even filed appeals.

I filed the appeal with the best of my ability, and then it was a waiting game. This happened in September of 2023. By the time October/November came I had not heard from anyone, so I emailed them, and it took them a week to respond to my status with the university. At that point I was in limbo and did not know what I was going to do. The response was final: I had been Administratively Withdrawn from the university and that was the final answer. There was no thank you for my time spent, good luck on your next journey or anything. Instead, there were derogatory comments on what I put into my appeal.

I learned a lot at the school, but I would never advise anyone to go there for their doctoral journey. They took my money and then left me out in the cold so to speak. The time, energy, and effort I cannot get back, nor can I use those units anywhere else to attempt to get my doctorate. The school needs a better model for helping the students and change their doctoral program Comprehensive Examination. If a student makes it that far with their GPA in good standings, then that should show that they are committed and have the abilities needed to move forward in completing the process of becoming someone who can called a doctor.

This speaks to the quality of his education. The only reason he managed to keep his position for a few years is because English is his first language.

I have come to realize that Capella University prioritizes profit over student success. This is the first school I’ve attended where I learned nothing from the instructors, yet I was required to spend an extensive amount of time completing assignments. The teaching approach consists of instructors reading from a text in videos, providing unclear instructions, and then holding students to extremely high grading standards. Essentially, I had to teach myself while paying a significant amount of money—without gaining any valuable knowledge from Capella.

My experience with the last instructor was particularly disappointing. She was disrespectful, unresponsive to my needs, and exhibited clear bias. Although Capella’s policy states that evaluations should be completed within 48 hours, she consistently took 48-96 hours to grade assignments, which negatively impacted my progress. Additionally, Capella does not provide instructor ratings, which I believe is a deceptive practice. Every student should have access to professor reviews, including details about their grading standards and overall performance.

Due to this lack of support, I ultimately failed my NP program admission. The instructor showed no concern for my success, which resulted in me missing my admission deadline. My personal counselor was equally unhelpful—when I reached out for assistance with my final course, she simply referred me to school policies instead of providing meaningful guidance. Capella’s IT support was another disaster. They were unable to assist with a simple file upload issue due to size restrictions, something I was able to figure out on my own despite having minimal technical expertise. How can they call this IT support?

The final straw was that, despite having my Capstone project ready by January 17th, the professor’s lack of responsiveness caused me to miss the first semester deadline. As a result, I was forced to enroll in another semester, costing me an additional $3,000 +. This is completely unfair. I feel like I was ripped off—paying for an education where many instructors seem to be in it for easy money rather than genuinely supporting students. It is truly disheartening to see education in the U.S. decline to such a low level. Capella University is not an institution that values its students, and I would strongly caution anyone considering this school.

I recently completed the RN-BSN Flex Path program, and I actually told two of my peers about it, who ended up finishing it before me! One of the wonderful aspects of this program is that you can progress at your own pace. I found the program challenging enough to push me to work hard and give my best, but not overwhelming to the point where it affected my work-school-life balance.

Some instructors do grade more rigorously, but their standards helped me improve my writing skills significantly. Regarding the staff I needed to communicate with, such as those related to financial aid, enrollment, and transcripts, everyone was super kind and helpful. They effectively resolved any issues or answered any questions I had.

My first academic coach wasn’t very helpful, but my second one was amazing. Throughout my time as a student, I spoke with around 20 different staff members for various reasons, and only one was problematic (academic coach), which I think is a great percentage. While I can't speak for every program, my experience with the RN-BSN Flex Path was wonderful. I'm so happy to have earned my BSN, and now I'm moving on to graduate school.

After attending two other universities and earning two degrees, my best advice is to stay clear of this school. During the recruiting phase you can always get the support you need, but for anything else, it's like pulling teeth. I had questions about my financial aid as I kept getting communication that I owed for my current term via text. I knew I was approved for aid but could not speak to anyone to confirm how the loan disbursed. They have an app called ELLA and this is how you reached out to the FA office. WELL, this is a joke. I did not receive any of the support I requested to clarify what I owed as I knew I could not pay the entire balance in that term. I also emailed and called and could never get anyone on the phone.

Likewise, I was offered a "scholarship" during enrollment that I could never get any additional info on afterwards. Coincidentally, no one replied until after the withdrawal deadline and now they have turned me over for $5000. I had disputed the charge; I contacted the university, and they are not willing to work with me due when this is all due to their lack of communication. New students should not have to stress like this which was an awful first impression of this experience. Capella is a BUSINESS, NOT a financial establishment that cares about the wellbeing of their students. There are so many other reputable places you can attend, do not go here. I was warned and did not listen. If they cared their financial aid office would have people as accessible as their recruiters are to recruit you and paint a pretty picture!

My experience with Capella University has been incredibly disappointing. This school is a complete waste of time and money. There is little to no communication, and the professors don’t seem interested in actually teaching or supporting students. It feels like they’re more focused on collecting tuition than providing a quality education. They don’t care about their students and are unhelpful in every way possible. Whenever you reach out for assistance, they claim they can’t do anything or conveniently deny ever having a conversation with you. This lack of accountability is unacceptable, especially when students are paying so much.

I also noticed issues with their handling of financial aid, which raises serious concerns. Their processes seem questionable at best, and I’ve seen enough red flags to believe there might be scam-like practices involved. I plan to report this institution because their operations do not align with the standards of a reputable university. If you’re considering Capella, save your time and money and look elsewhere. This school is not worth the stress or the cost.

My experience at Capella has been nothing short of frustrating. At first, things seemed promising, but it quickly turned into a nightmare due to their blatant inconsistency with charges and lack of accountability towards students. One of my professors gave me a failing grade simply because she didn’t want to support my progress. When I reached out for help, she brushed me off and referred me to IT support because I was having technical issues with the class. IT support, in turn, kept bouncing me back to the professor, leaving me stuck in an endless cycle of unhelpful responses. To make matters worse, the charges are ridiculously high, making this entire ordeal feel like a waste of time and money.

And they have psychotic staff in their financial aid and advising departments that will take every word you use and manipulate and twist what you say and use it against you if you complain. That is what it is... They do not want to be held accountable for their own actions, so they avoid talking to lawyers and review boards creating a much more lengthy process. Capella University is a total scam as they overcharge their students without even providing access to critical databases like JSTOR. They blocked me from registering for classes. WHAT A JOKE!!!! This school was the worst school I have ever attended in my whole life. It is advertised on the website at your own pace but they give you deadlines. That should be disclosed in the program and online. You have professors constantly harassing you to turn in an assignment, you have very little to no direction on what to do for the assessment, and the professors don’t give you until 11:59pm to submit an assessment. I had failed a class all because I thought it was at my own pace. Their flexpath is a joke and so are the professors.

If you are working to make money DO NOT DO THIS PROGRAM! Financial aid was so hard to get ahold of, the staff takes their time to respond to you, they don’t answer your questions and they do everything they can to protect their staff. It was a terrible experience for me. That is what happens when you go to a for profit school. I am in the MBA program, partly good. However, one of my Professors does not grade based on the rubric. I sent complaints to my Advisor, however, she stated to contact the Professor. It did not get resolved, so I tried to contact the Advisor but also received a automatic email stating how she was going to be out for at least two weeks. Never heard of that. Also, the Professor does not know what business publications are. Try to contact Support, their staff members will tell you everything. First, I was told my a Staff Member that several students have contacted their office upset because of how the Professors grade. Then the Staff Member also told me that students called confused about their Professors grading.

Also, I found out that Strategic Education Inc owns Capella University. That company is worth about a billion dollars and owns several other schools. Including Capella University, thy own Strayer University, Torrens University, Jack Welch, Sophia, Hackbright Academy, Devmountain, and Media Design School. I found this out after asking Support for the Dean of Students email to report my Professor. The Support person let me know that there was not a email for them. I thought to myself, so, this school just allows Professors to do what they want without repercussions. That is when I researched the school more and found out everything. I emailed everyone until I got a response. Then I also let the VA know what this school has been up to. VA Support let me know what to do.

It is a shame to serve this country, then have to go through this with a school. Online schools are making a lot of money but I wonder what money they are spending on the school. Also, if the schools have investors, the money that is earned via student loans, students' hard earned money, and students who use the GI Bill. Is that money going to their investors? Forgive any grammatical errors, but I am upset about the whole matter. This school should start reimbursing all the students for the bad Professors' behaviors, even if they are tenured. They make millions and can afford to fire the bad Professors and hire good Professors.

I am currently getting a master's through Capella University and here are the pros and cons I have noticed.. For context, I am about to finish my master's and I have been doing capella online for about 2 years.. Pros: easy access to online assignments, multiple chances to adjust grades via submissions, can choose between instructor-led/or student-led courses, can choose how short or long semester breaks are, can change due dates on student-led courses, easy and adjustable payment plans.

Cons: (I will go into more detail about this.) This is why they received 2 stars because I have found more cons than pros in the last 2 years. The assignments have minimal written details, and some professors do submit videos that are helpful to explain each assignment and others expect you to just know what they want from the assignment. Thus, you must submit a second time because you didn't provide everything they wanted in the assignment.

Many professors even though they respond quickly in emails do not give a lot of details when you ask questions and take a long period to grade assignments even though it is supposed to be within a few days. I have an instructor who took up to a week to grade my assignments in the whole course. Not only are you solely doing it online but the descriptions of the assignments are not always helpful, the responses from professors are not always helpful, and you have to submit 2-3 submissions to finally achieve the grade you need.

Another big thing I noticed is the advisors are not very good. They either take days or even a week to respond or they just don't answer your question if you ask more than one at one time. I try not to waste anyone's time so I've asked 3 questions in one message and sometimes I only got answers back to 1 or 2 and then I have to resend a message or email because I just never got those other questions answered either.

Another big problem I've had was in-person or practical hours. This was such a problem for me. Capella takes forever to get anything approved and is not flexible at all with helping solve problems along the way. The biggest Pro to this situation was the email support team. Seriously bless them because they were fantastic. I was receiving inaccurate information from other individuals that I contacted during my in-person affiliation/documentation process and it was completely confusing. Aside from the support team, you email anyone for help and most people do not respond or they send responses from the Capella website you already read.

I am completely frustrated with Capella. I would not recommend it. I would have gone somewhere else if I could do my master's all over again. If you are only doing a bachelor's or a short program I am sure Capella would be fine as long as you know technology well and are good with not a lot of in-person explanations. I would not go to Capella again though for a master's or doctorate...

My initial impressions with Capella were excellent. I was able to register with ease, almost all of my professors were excellent. Being between jobs, I was able to dedicate a heavy amount of time and effort to the DBA Flex program, and after a relatively short while, I was just north of 50% complete. Leading up to this point, my only complaint would have been that my academic advisor was hands off to the point of being abrasive and reluctant to offer assistance with just about anything. Fortunately, I’m a fairly independent learner, so, this was unprofessional but not a deal breaker.

Around this time, I ended up in the hospital for just over a week with a life threatening concern. I was dropped from my course erroneously, despite still being active. In conjunction with this, I was dropped from the program as a whole. No contact at all from my advisor or anyone else. Due to the hospital, it was roughly two weeks until I’d realized that their website wasn’t simply malfunctioning, as I’d grown used to it doing for the duration of my attendance– I was actually dropped.

Mind you, I submitted both hospital records and two doctor’s notes from my inpatient care to the school, as is standard during abnormal events. No response. When I was finally able to speak with my advisor, I was told “sorry, I don’t deal with this sort of thing,” by my advisor. So, I sought out another individual. I was informed that there was unfortunately nothing that could be done, and that my only option was to transfer over to the Guided path. I was told it was standard and would be no problem.

A few weeks later, I was rejected on the basis of my application, despite it being even more well rounded than when I’d initially applied a year prior. I’ve reached out to several individuals at the school multiple times, and have yet to get a single communication back outside of automated emails. If this is at all what like anyone else has experienced, and not a one off, I would not trust this institution with my time or money. With as much experience and money as the owning entity Strategic Education Inc has, they can and should be expected to do much better.

The way the whole thing is organized is dysfunctional and they could care less! They're only out for your money. I wish I had known this before I started, I would have DEFINITELY went with other schools that are BETTER academically and CHEAPER with a TRAINED staff!

I graduated from Capella University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and I am proud of it. Technology was much different then, so online learning wasn’t very interactive like today. It required a considerable amount of independent work. Overall, I remember the professors to be helpful and the staff responsive. Because I had to work and go to school, this was a way to complete my education. I believe that Capella is a good school for a serious, independent learner.

DO NOT DO IT! YOU WILL BE OUT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS! I enrolled back in 2019 in their Masters of Nurse Education program. They call this a Flex Path program and when the pandemic hit, I needed to drop the course and work in the hospitals. I did make this known to the staff that I could not continue in this course. We spoke in nauseum to their academic team about how I needed to pause my courses and complete at a later date because I could not complete while working. I thought this was resolved and now I just got a letter from collections for $2,555 for the courses I NEVER completed.

I spoke to this man in the finance department who basically said, "sucks to be you" and told me I have no choice and have to pay for the courses (even though I did NOT complete them). I understand paying for a course that I started and dropped, but they are making me pay for the entire semester!! Real colleges DO NOT do this and that is how you know this is a scam and should not hold the title of University. They don't care about you, your work or your life outside their money hungry, scam of a system.

I typically don't write reviews. However, after reading all the negative reviews, I felt compelled to write about my experience. I don't know if the undergraduate and graduate programs differ from the doctoral ones. Still, I started in October 2023 working on my Doctorate in Human Services with a concentration in organizational management and have had a great experience. The professors are very supportive and respond to concerns within 24 hours. The coursework is challenging and requires extensive reading, but I have no complaints about the professors or the school. My advice to current and future learners is to read the Capella Policy and abide by the plagiarism and late policy. Reference and cite ALL of your work and you'll be successful.

This isn't possible as I always wrote my papers in the ICU when I had downtime. I submitted emails, and texts from my teachers. I submitted letters from colleagues who witnessed my endless nights of writing papers. The school expelled me and took my money. They failed me in every course and said that I provided no proof. Do not go here. I was recently dismissed from the university due to a "policy" violation. Was shown no actual proof, I went to this school simply for the convenience of it being fully online, and was about to spend the next 2 months abroad. I am assuming my location red flagged their system which caused a violation again I can't be 100% sure because I was not given full transparency, just told I violated their policy. When I tried to appeal, I provided photos of my itinerary, as well as passport to support the dates of the specific classes that they read flagged saying were in violation, which was basically pointless, because they didn't even want to hear what I had to say, they told me that the decision stands again still with no proof on violation. I've read other reviews after this happened to me and saw a few people bad this happen to them as well through this school. So don't waste your time.

As I am working through my courses, I have discovered that no one actually cares enough to help with anything, they just want your money. You will turn something in, it may not be exactly what the professor states, but they do not tell you exactly what to do in order to fix it. Whenever you have any questions or anything about courses you have to way at least 2-3 days for a response. I could go on and on about all of the things I dislike about this college. Capella University is a great program and challenges scholars to employ divergent thinking. The professors are great and invest time in making sure that you understand the principles and expectations of each class. Yes, some classes are more difficult than others. However, that is the challenge that makes the DBA program respected. I would highly recommend Capella University if you are up for the challenge and want to actually learn something. Learners are responsible for their outcomes. Sure can situations be challenging, yes; but the desired result has accountability from the learner and the university. The majority of great experiences from the university are not posted as reviews. Use your resources on social media groups and get real feedback or experiences from graduates. As a Capella Alumnae, I can say the program was worth the sacrificed time and money. I highly recommend the FlexPath program for your educational needs!

I’m in these classes half of the semester and then I should pay them. They're out their ** mind. You cannot report them the way normal school operates. These Professors are just collecting a check. There making easy money barely doing the bare minimum.

They keep you in the class because you can only take two classes at a time. The other finds reasons to reject your paper primary example I told Professor Julie ** I did not highlight my whole paper because I started over completely from scratch causing me to lose my last submission. Capella University does not ensure any form of success at the end of the dissertation journey. My dissertation committee accepted my proposal, and accepted my first three chapters. I was unable to complete the last two chapters due to not having any participants. That was a concern of mine from the beginning, and also a concern from one of my committee members. The rest of my committee members wanted me to go ahead with my study. The end result after years of work, completing all of my coursework, spending all of my money, completing my residencies, and completing the first three chapters of my dissertation was nothing. There was no degree of any kind, and no resolution. I retired from education. They informed me that I would have to begin the dissertation process over.

I recently contacted Capella. This time they told me I had waited too long, and could not obtain an PhD without beginning the entire program. Being that close to graduation with no resolution at the time was excruciating to me. I had poured everything I had into obtaining a PhD. Shortly afterward, I had severe accident, ending up in a coma and tried to reach some type of resolution from Capella to obtain another type of degree for the work I had completed. There was no result, no degree, and no graduation. I will say that my journey up to the point of the dissertation was exceptional. I had a wonderful education that no one can take away from me. This is terrible school in regard to the support given to the students. Nobody employed here wants to genuinely help you, they just want to take your money and send you on your way. When I first reached out to my academic advisor early in my doctoral phase about my difficulty in the program I was met with “Only 2% of people have a doctorate degree, it’s supposed to be hard”. I accepted that at the time but looking back I would have actually like a meeting, some ideas, some support given. Anything?!?! Nothing else was said or suggested. The support staff are god awful and don’t help at all. The professors are hit or miss. Some genuinely make you enjoy logging in and fill your mind as you learn new concepts and skills and some professors are so miserable, out of touch, or callous they don’t care about you and it shows. You feel that lack of care.

I just had a surgery and I informed the professor and other admins about me being down a few days. I told them the date. I had been waiting for a response to an issue I had. Well, they sent the response on my surgery day and then indicated it was my last day to take action. Honestly, is that professional in any regard? After I’ve already stated this date twice and was never told anything regarding that date until the day of? These types of pass you on, dismissive, overlooked interactions make you just want to bang your head through the computer screen and cry desperate tears.

The inconsistency with the quality and care of the faculty is a major issue alone and feels like a set up. I’ve had classmates say this over and over as well. Capella- oh They want to take your money but they won’t support you if any extenuating circumstances occur. It’s you and only you helping you through this. Make no mistake you’re on your own through this entire thing. It seems like you’ll have all this support, academic coach, librarians, writing support. It’s all a good SHOW but the meat is not there. It’s just bones. It’s not quality and it’s not implemented and executed well enough to be systematic. The admins sit there holding concerns in their hands all while doing nothing and not taking the reins at all for the success of the learners. Some of the interactions I have had have been Highly incompetent and unprofessional. There is no other way to describe it, maybe unacceptable?

Lastly, The professors do whatever they want and it’s sanctioned. As they have ultimate discretion for policies enforced. They only want to fail you and then have you retake the course paying more money. It’s a CASH COW, because if the University truly cared about their students' learning and course success they would absolutely try to work with them, as you see the students working hard. You’d want to help support that.

Do NOT go to this school. I repeat- do NOT go here! Yes they are accredited but they are also incompetent and lack compassion with poor administration. I imagine they are all remote workers and are not doing a lick of work because if you reach out to get help/ it’s just one point that sends to the other and you won’t get addressed at any point with your concerns. Save yourself the headache. Find another school. It’s not worth your time and definitely not your money. I wish I knew this sooner. I would be much happier somewhere else.

Updated on 11/02/2023: Per my previous post, I had thought that Capella University Financial Aid Department had finally completed my financial aid file and everything was done. However, the department then adjusted my financial aid AGAIN and now, I'm back to trying to figure out how to complete the tuition paying process and receive my refund. Upon calling them again today, they seemed unknowledgeable and at first said there were no holds on my account. I then asked them to review my account and they said there was a hold on my account so the funds couldn't be released. I have no idea how this department is trained. So, I'm STILL waiting for my FA to process.

Original: I have tried for over 6 weeks to complete the financial aid process. I've contacted the FA department via Ella chat and phone calls. I keep getting told my FA account will be updated to include my award for the aid year. Still waiting, and no explanation as to why there are so many delays. Honestly, just sick and tired of how long the FA process is. About one step from quitting this school and venturing elsewhere. They're that bad.

I was really skeptical about this whole "online bachelor's degree" thing at first. I even used this website (Consumer Affairs) to grill the admissions counselor at length about people's common complaints. Right off the bat, this admissions fella was attentive and personable. I think I sent him at least 10 emails with essays' worth of questions about Capella, about my responsibilities, about other people's complaints and if they're valid. Rather than shrugging me off, he gave me his full, patient time. Every time.

So I enrolled in the Flexpath program for my psychology degree. First off, this program is not your typical "attend zoom and take your test" sort of structure. This is an essay-driven structure that you take at your own pace. Each class often consists of four "Assessments," which are usually essays, sometimes worksheets or PowerPoint presentations, and you're given a host of reading assignments and activities to go with each assessment. The flexpath program is a *flat fee* every 3 months of $2,500 (at the time of this writing), and you can take as many classes as you can fit in there. After my financial aid (maximum award amount), I paid $1,000 every three months. When it was all said and done, I only paid $3,000 out of pocket for my degree because I finished in less than three semesters with a 3.9 GPA.

I know some people are looking at that and going "this can't be a legit degree," or "this sounds easy." This is NOT an easy program. I made this degree my full time job. Furthermore, you can download the VitalSource Bookshelf app, Capella's textbooks, and have the app read the material to you while you get things done around the house. Second, it's vital that you develop a good essay writing strategy for gathering your peer reviewed sources and structuring your papers according to the bullet-point requirements the instructors give you. This structuring will be the number one thing you use time and again. Work smarter, not harder. Bottom line: essays essays essays.

Are the instructors attentive? Yes and no. If I ever needed help with anything at all, they were quick to respond and help me. Are the profs conversational? Sometimes. I always submitted a lengthy "how are you" and talked a bit about the subject matter with my assessments. Some were happy to chat along in response, and some ignored my babbling completely. I didn't take it personally, they have a job to do. I have a job to do. All that really mattered was that I stayed professional and got the feedback on my work that I needed to either improve or move on to the next assignment. Now then. People's complaints on this site that I can provide answers to:

-Technical or financial errors with billing that results in people being passed around to too many clueless departments and then getting sent to collections.- Um, no? Like literally you just log into the website and there's your billing stuff right there. I got an email when my bill was due. I logged in and paid my bill. I don't know how people mess this up.

-Professors taking too long to grade course material, nullifying the "go at your own pace" appeal. - Again: Um, no? You can be enrolled in two classes at once. Even if by some weird chance a professor is taking longer than the allotted 48 hours to grade an assessment, you always have the next assessment to work on at your pace. Or the one after that. Or the next class. There is literally no reason to blame the professors for your pace.

-Too many people in the class.- I don't know why this is even a complaint, honestly. You never have to interact with these people. In all honesty, since I never even saw their names, I often felt like I was the only one in the class and that was awesome.

-Impossible to talk to a real person.- Really? You just follow the format. For my academic advisor, I scheduled an appointment and she called me at the right time and we always had a nice chat about my goals. Easy peasy. As I mentioned earlier, the admissions fellow was always attentive and responsive at any time. The professors were also quite responsive. Never had a problem.

Now then, let's get to things I feel I should mention to help out the next person.First of all, Capella uses Blackboard for their online format. Blackboard is clunky, not user friendly, and frankly, buggy. I did a few things to subvert this. I wrote down all the chapters I needed to read for each assessment so I didn't need to log into my classroom to do my reading (remember, our textbooks are in an app!). I also copy/pasted the assessment instructions into a word file and highlighted the important bits. That way, if Blackboard was ever being Blackboard, I could still function until it was up. In this same vein, Blackboard is coded first and foremost for Microsoft Edge. Begrudgingly, I ended up making Microsoft Edge my school browser. And here's a must: you need to set the browser to clear all cookies and caching every time you close it or your Blackboard simply won't work.

Second, Capella courses strongly recommend you use an online portfolio service through another company, paid for by them, to save all your work. Don't bother with that company's tech support if the website doesn't work for you either, they'll blow you off. Just save your work elsewhere, like a dropbox account, and don't mention the portfolio and you're fine.

And now the transcript. You need to know going into this that your transcript is a flexpath **pass/fail transcript**. Capella also has a "translated transcript" option for free, which isn't "official", but it translates your flexpath transcript into letter grades. It's recommended that you submit the translated one alongside the official one. I did that for my graduate program and it's fine.

For psychology grads: I thought Capella's accreditation was a green light for California, but my first class taught me it's not. Your state should have a board of psychology that outlines clearly what kind of accreditation your school needs in order for you to be licensed. Find out, then match that up with your school. I used Capella for a bachelor's and am now transferring to a different graduate program, but would have gladly stayed with Capella.

Things I really enjoyed: If, for whatever reason, I wanted a chance to do better at an assignment, we get 3 submission attempts. Three! I scoffed at this idea at first and thought I'd never use it. But in actuality, this was a great learning opportunity that allowed me to gain skills I used through the entire program. I also loved that I was able to take charge of my education and do it at my pace. This is college, no one is going to hold your hand. For people like me who manage our time really well and like to make sure we're satisfied with our understanding of the course material, this program is made for us.

Student programs and services are AWESOME. Through Capella we get free access to things like the entire Microsoft suite, Grammarly, or the incredible library. Your "school email" enables you to take advantage of so many things. Overall I totally recommend Capella to anyone seeking to further their education and embark on their career. Put in the work, communicate when possible, manage your time, and prosper, my friends. Cheers.

I NEVER write reviews but I wholeheartedly believe that this school is a scam. This is a diploma mill school along with Devry, Walden, SNHU, etc. Reputable employers look down on a degree from here and their psychology program is NOT accredited by the American Psychological Association. I was not informed of the stimulations when dropping a course and their disbursement date of funds is after the 75% fund return drop date, so you are forced to either continue out with the quarter or have a balance. You can find 95% of the answers of all quizzes and exams online, and I first hand seen a paper accepted and graded by professor that a student paid for someone else to write.

This school is a joke and I would never recommend anyone attending any program from here. If you need just a piece of paper saying you finished something then this university is for you, but if you actually wanna be respected and accepted by your field of study and its employers go somewhere else. NEVER enroll into this or any other for-profit school, they do not care about the quality of education you are receiving they only care about your money so when you go to withdraw or drop out you are punished with a balance. The only department I can speak highly of is the department of disability, they were the only ones who were ever any help to me. I am considering taking up a legal case with Capella and repealing my aid for this university. Please do not make the same mistake I did, go to a non-for-profit school.

I was surprised to read so many negative reviews for Capella University as that has not been my experience at all. From the first day that I called them I have had an advisor hold my hand and be so supportive throughout the entire process. I choose the Flex Path option to earn my degree in General Psychology faster than the traditional route. This is a competency based program - which means you attend school alone, there is no cohort, and can complete courses as fast as you would like. Competency equates to writing extensive, comprehensive research papers and case studies. There is a grading rubric that is easy to follow in order to earn basic - distinguished. The papers show your professors that you have gained mastery of knowledge and write at a college level or higher in APA-7.

My phone calls have always been answered no matter the day or time and issues have always been resolved swiftly from financial aid questions to changing course selection or technical help. Even though Flex Path is competency based I have been able to form relationships with my professors. I do believe that you have to be incredibly self-motivated in order to reap the benefits of this program - it's really what you make of it. There is a lot of writing. I happen to love writing research papers and case studies but it is a lot of work.

I only have a few classes left so I've double downed because the end is in sight. It can be a little easy to burn out from all the paper writing but Capella is there to help mitigate that. Also, my papers are always graded in 48 hours or less. Capella is also constantly adding new classes and that can be both exciting and motivating. For example today I dropped Cyber Psychology and switched to Group Dynamics - which is a new class they just started offering. It is very easy to tailor the psychology classes to your interests. I found this program to be perfect for me. I have loved absolutely every moment of this journey and honestly have come through this a completely changed person. I highly recommend Capella as a working adult and parent. It's the best decision that I've ever made.

Avoid this online program and school. Believe all of the other reviews regarding their fraudulent activity and scam. They will take all of your money via financial aid, leave you in debt, create a charge from the clear blue sky (due to a "mistake" made on the behave of the school"), and will wait until you are just about to complete your degree then "administratively withdraw" you from your program. They will make you go through a lengthy appeal process to then send a generic email stating the withdrawal was upheld. Do not attend this school.

They changed my degree program mid-research. Completely revamped the program while I was in the process of implementing my research in my industry. This school is horrible. I had a very high GPA and submitted so much work. The school changes grades that the instructors and mentors put in at the end of the semester. They undermine their staff and students. This online school is a complete scam. I was instructed to get legal counsel. After reading the reviews and seeing similar stories, I believe I will. Take the time to do your research on this school. They literally just settled a lawsuit regarding their fraudulent behavior. I wish I would have known this prior to investing so much time, research, and money into this school. You are promised to complete the program in two and a half years; However, even if you do, the teachers, mentors, and advisors are working together to extend your time in the program to make more money for you. I completed the program in two and a half years; with hard work that cost me blood, sweat and tears. In the end they invented a ridiculous thing to keep me longer in the program to continue draining my pocket.

Since I was unwilling to play their game, I resigned before graduating; yes I know, it sounds crazy but life is very short and for what it is worth a doctorate is not worth it. In the end I ended up with a debt of more than 80 thousand dollars, serious health problems and all because of a silly dream. I was not as wise as most of my colleagues who were able to withdraw in time, because in this program you are destined to fail. This institution has a very bad reputation. I also was told that "they would call me back," multiple time with answers but they did not. When asked about options for Financial Assistance, the employees act as if they weren't aware of any programs, I had to ask specifically about each one and they had to go ask someone else. I don't think they are approving anyone for F.A. at this time but are quick to tell you "you qualify for a loan!" I am not working but I don't qualify?

I have called my Counselor way too many times, phone rings busy continuously. I emailed multiple times and asked that she call me, she did not. The process for registering is a joke. Totally unorganized. If you have a complaint, they do not have Anyone for you to talk to and there aren't any numbers on website for the Dean, and assistance, Supervisor, a complaint department, etc. I asked for a Supervisor, Manager, Dean, Complaint department and was told "we do not have any of those, you have to go to the website." On the website you are told to "try and work things out with the person you have a complaint with and also not to place anything on social media." It's a horrible business, when they do not have any numbers to talk to real people about matters that needs to be Escalated. The only number, is the main number, and that number is Use-less! Capella accepted all of my previous college credits, minus those that were remediation classes, which most other colleges do not accept either. I was able to use my professional certification for PLA credits so that took off 7 classes. I have 6 days left before the end of my journey and it took me a year to finish. Granted I transferred in the max credit of 135 and I did the Guided Path versus Flex Path. They do have a max on how much financial aid you can use in a quarter so be aware of that when signing up for classes. Also, if you pay out of pocket, you need to set yourself on a payment plan so you will not get dropped from your classes. It is a pretty easy online process.

I never had an issue with contacting anyone from Capella and my professors have been great! The programs are not easy, to be successful you have to put in the work. I can honestly say that the stuff I have learned in my degree has helped me with my career. I would just recommend researching your program very well before signing up to make sure it is a good fit. Misleading the Flexpath program. I wanted a flexible online learning experience with courses that would pique my interest. Instead, I received courses worth 1.5 quarter credits, taking longer to achieve 180 quarter credits to receive a bachelor's degree. The Flexpath program is so you can move through faster. Why don't they have more 3 quarter credits courses in my academic plan? A few months into attending, I quickly became tired of always writing papers for each assessment. That is all you do, write papers, and it never stops. If you enjoy only writing papers for your courses, this may be for you. But I've been doing this for over a year, and I am burned out. You will also spend many minutes trying to get financial aid on the line and speak to your academic advisor. Who can learn only writing papers for months on end? Based on the reviews, I can only expect fallout from financial aid. I'll soon find out how much I owe.

This is so disappointing because I was hoping my online experience would be amazing, instead my degree seems further away now. I can't believe an institution like Capella can ruin so many dreams for individuals who want to achieve greater things. Capella needs a third party to come in and review its processes and procedures. Clearly, they have more disappointed learners than graduates.

In fact, I would have to fight to receive it before the last day of the term. Sometimes it was even after it ended. The last quarter, I changed my last classes into one term, since financial aid sent me an email stating if I did so, I would only owe $100 out of pocket. After it was too late to change back, I received a bill for $2209.

When I confirmed the email, all I got was that was incorrect, and I should not have been told that. Well, your mistake, you eat it. This did not happen. Then I tried to apply for the Master's Program, since I graduated with a 3.8 gpa. It has been 3 months and they are continually having technical issues, or changing what is required. What? I joined Capella University in 2010 and completed my PhD in five years. I wanted to transition from my corporate career into a full-time university teaching position. I completed my degree in 2015 and started a position as a full-time Instructor in management and leadership on the same day. I have been teaching college courses and loving it ever since. Capella was exactly the opportunity I needed to transition into a new career and take that career to the next level.

When I started this class, the 1st instructor asked us about ourselves. I then was told to submit every assignment the maximum amount of times. I had a 93% and he gave me a non- performance on a paper- “too long.” Then I caught him checking my LinkedIn profile out. That was it. I reported him, and was getting all Distinguished grades in the next course. I was told I could re-take his course.... why ever would I subject myself to this biased man again, when he was passing brand new nurses in one attempt, and forcing the older, experienced nurses in the class to struggle? When asked for clarification, he’d say, ‘read the rubric.’

I screen shot everything. And they are sending harassing emails asking for their money, although they know it takes up to 4 weeks for reimbursement. This school is a joke. Outdated materials....all research papers....and a Facebook group where everyone asks who should take the least offensive instructors. I came here and read these reviews and I’m sick to my stomach. When an instructor biases his students and harasses them, he better hope they don’t get evidence of it. I did. Is there any recourse?

I had read reviews that Capella adds a term to the end of your degree to collect more money and they were right! Advising tells you the wrong information misleading you into another term. You rarely get to speak to the same advisor therefore always getting information from different people. The professors who grade are fair and going at your own pace is great. But it's not worth the extra $2500 and stress. Here I am done my classes and cannot even get my degree because of the inaccurate info. in helping me budget this course.

I love Capella University for their learning style, support groups, and flexibility. I cannot think of a better place to grow. After completing a master's degree, I negotiated $20,000 additional in annual income. I would expect another $20,000 bump after earning a doctorate in 2021. Nevertheless, impact and career advancement depend on the individual. Be able to explain your career path and what lead you to make specific changes. Be prepared to describe challenging situations and how you navigated turbulent waters. Research the company before any interview and always be ready with exit interview questions that show you are vested in their plan.

I typically work an 8-hour shift, part-time in the evenings for the Writing Center, and am also the primary caregiver for my mom who is in failing health. My best advice is to stay organized, maintain a routine schedule, and learn how to connect with Capella support groups (Writing Center, Library Team, Qualitative Groups, etc.). This university is a community of people who did not grow up privileged but know how to get the job done!! Ask questions. Reach out to your advisor, facilitator, and other online learners. I spend about 15-18 hours per week on course work. Know what you must do to get the job done!! Learn how to ask for help and be vigilant about connecting with the recommended free resources, providing for by this phenomenal university!! You will love it too!!

I studied my master’s and Doctoral degree at Capella University. I completed a master’s in leadership Coaching Psychology in 2011 and a doctorate in I/O Psychology in 2014. I have read some of the previous reviews and agree that Capella is not for everyone. Determination, discipline and making the right questions before deciding to study at Capella area critical.

I early realized it was challenging, trying to balance work and studies, nevertheless, because they are very structured, excellent technological resources, and sufficient and excellent learning materials, guides, and processes, it was easier for my learning process. Hence, if you do not see what you want or need, you, and only you have the responsibility of reaching out to them and let them know your needs or struggles. I did many times, and they provide ways to resolve the situation.

They challenged me in every course, but I learned about critical thinking, and even English writing (Spanish is my native language). Perhaps the only downside I can state is the high price to study at the time if studied. My business has grown exponentially since I completed my degrees (I am a Business and Life coach). Hope this feedback assists you in reaching the best decision possible. Many successes in your decision-making process.

My experience with Capella University has been a great experience except for the fact, of how they don't have enough Bachelor Degree Scholarships; for students who are just getting started in the field of Psychology, and or for the students in the field of Psychology who are on going students; as well as any other field of study for students within a Bachelors Degree Program and etc. When pertaining to, all students within all levels of programs, I feel that they need more scholarships within Capella's database; to help students succeed with their finances within Capella University. Because in both my opinion, and experiences I have not been so lucky getting accepted for scholarships; outside of Capella University.

I feel that Capella University should create a type, of scholarship that students can apply for every year and get accepted; so that they can feel confident in repaying Capella University for the finances left over as a balance, especially those of minorities, and or the minorities who are considered at the very bottom. Because every student is different, and because every student is different doesn't absolutely mean that they will be accepted; for a scholarship outside of Capella's regulations that many people claim that they are eligible for.

Many colleges and or schools claim that they are for people who are hard working individuals, but give them such a hard-time when it comes to financing their career, and or field of study when it comes to them not having enough money to pay them back when they run out of funds to pay the school back. These people claim that they want to help the poor, but in my opinion how can you always say that you want to help the poor, and or people in general when you are always charging them a fee in something so they can't make it?

In my opinion, it is impossible for these colleges that are coming about today to even be concerned about helping the poor; when they are always charging for everything, where I come from that's not considered help. Then eventually, these students can't come back to college due to them not having enough money to pay the school back; although they were recognized as straight A and B students and working hard to keep their promise to themselves, and the college all at the same-time. Over the years, after I kept repeating college over and over and over again; college started seeming like one big scam and profit in which they are. No wonder why many Bachelor students don't make it, because there's not enough help for them to keep at it. In my opinion, you have to have a job to stay in school.

As for the work study, I believe these people choose whomever they want to choose to work for them; as their selection and or people they want to help. It makes no sense, for college to be this hard, expensive, and stressful to where students don't want to come back. If people can help these students stay in school with the right scholarships, physically then they probably can make it. I just don't know anymore smh, these people feed you so many lies just to get you at their facility; then when you start making wonderful grades and proving yourself to them, they want to take it all away from you. Smh then have to end up going back working at a nine to five, then have to hear from other people that you didn't try hard enough. Especially, when you're someone like me who have repeated college some many times; just to get stepped on by a bunch of grimy people. These colleges right along with society is so grimy! I hope this message gets far, because us students really need your help.

They should be shut down. You'll notice they have a Facebook group run by their staff claiming how awesome Capella is. If you disagree at all or comment on Capella's posts they block you. They didn't want to give me my Pell grants. I fought hard for 6 months while attending class to get it. I went in to debt. Also, their recruiters lie. Coaches do not check on your progress. I had 3 different coaches and it took weeks of me sending emails to find out if they quit or moved departments.

My first coach never helped me once so it took me 7 or 8 months to figure out how to even get the books I was paying for. How to view books on vital source. How to register myself for classes. Tutors don't respond to emails. I got frustrated because time is money and the longer their staff waits to respond the more money capella makes. So if they do respond it's usually not even relevant and then it takes another week to get their attention to point out their answer didn't match your question. And their FlexPath ad was a huge lie about 1 year. I repeatedly asked if I could do 1 full year with only 1 year of financial aid. I was not planning to borrow past that. Capella's flexpath ends at 11 months and for 1 year they force you to borrow a 5th terms financial aid to finish up your last class. It is a scam. Now their adds are gone that were claiming graduate in 1 year at a FLAT FEE.

Their classes have non stop technical errors with the links. The classes were designed years ago and they just have teachers grade stuff. The teachers take no responsibility for what the assignment layout is like. If it's outdated. Missing all its resources. I've even had teachers request additional stuff outside the rubric or grade me for stuff not on the rubric.

Capella is a nightmare with no accountability. There is no real way to file a complaint. Which likely is illegal. You can't contact the dean at all. You are on your own at Capella. If you aren't ready to fight every step of the uphill battle then they will make off like bandits with your money. They don't care if you graduate. They make money the more you struggle because they put the blame on you for not having enough discipline. Which is the chant they paid for "reviewers" love to say. I can say that I am graduating in 11 months. It would have been 9 months if I had support from the staff instead of them setting me up for failure constantly. It takes a lot of discipline to call them every day and deal with tech support, random coaches, and all the other crap their financial aid department puts you through.

So I enrolled back in 2019. By the time the first semester was over, I was not finished due to mental health. I contacted my academic coach to get an extension. They did not process the paperwork until after the semester was over so it was unclear what the outcome was. I was unable to get ahold of the academic coach (my professor could not as well) and did not know if I was still registered until almost a month later.

When I finally was able to get ahold of them, they said to finish the course and keep going even though I expressed desire of wanting to end enrollment. After another week or so, I spoke with an advisor and said I wanted to withdraw. With this, they did not indicate extra paperwork I had to fill out and didn't even process that information. A couple of days later I was told that I would be billed for the next semester soon.

I called once again and someone actually wrote down that I was withdrawing and that there was a form to fill out. Over the next few days I was told I would be billed for the semester that I did not complete any work (I didn't do any due to not knowing I was enrolled). It was so difficult to get ahold of academic coaches or anyone who could help me.

About a week or two after COVID-19 started to get huge in my state I received emails from Capella stating they needed about $4,000 within the next week. With my job changing rules and regulations due to the virus, this information added so much anxiety. After trying to contact Capella about the fact that I had no money and was unable to do so, I was told they were unsympathetic. After attempting to speak with them two times (both ending horribly) I started to have panic attacks every time I received emails from them. Another time they sent me my balance (about a week after the previous upsetting calls) I had a panic attack for about 3 hours.

Not only does this school not care about any difficulty you are having (even with COVID-19), they also continue to make multiple attempts to contact for money even after many in the country are left jobless. I am unable to handle conversation or contact with them currently as my anxiety & panic attacks have worsened.

If you want a college that only cares about profit, Capella is the one.

This program is very rigorous, so you have to stay two steps ahead of everything. Also, make sure you keep documentation of everything... I mean everything.

If I had to give a con is that throughout my time at Capella, there were several program changes. This was annoying. If you do not stay up to date on these changes it will cost you. Always check up on things. Never just assume papers, etc. have been sent to the appropriate people. I enrolled and began my educational journey in 2014, due to my overwhelming desire to obtain a Ph.D. I chose Capella University due to my employer which requires me to travel quite extensively at any given moment. During my time with Capella, I enjoyed the freedom to enroll and participate in classes utilizing the online curriculum and forum. I have also found the courses and instructors to be challenging and overall rewarding. Throughout my time, I was forced to take one quarter off while traveling for work.

After this travel, I chose not to re-enroll immediately and to get my life situation in order so I could focus on finishing my path to a Ph.D. During this timeframe, I relocated for work and after settling in and becoming oriented to the new working environment, I decided to re-enroll with Capella University and dedicate my time and effort to finishing what I had started in 2014. Unbeknownst to me, I was informed by an academic advisor that the program I was enrolled in had been discontinued and was no longer available. I was also informed that if the program were still available, I would not be eligible to re-enroll due to my “break” in education. Furthermore, I was informed that I may be able to transfer credits to another program but the transfer audit revealed that only 32 credits would transfer over and that I would lose the majority of my completed coursework.

At no time did Capella University inform me that the program I had enrolled in was being discontinued and/or in jeopardy of being terminated. I have completed over 90% of my credits and lack only a few classes, a final comprehensive exam, and a dissertation. I, like every other student, placed an enormous amount of time and financial expense to Capella University to complete my desire to obtain a higher educational degree. If I had been informed of such a regrettable situation, I would have remained enrolled to complete my Ph.D. I was seriously misled by Capella University in that I, like many other students, were never informed about the termination of the program nor was I ever informed that if I took off a quarter of learning, I would not be allowed to re-enroll. It is no wonder that only 12% of the students graduate from this University!

Well, let me start off by stating that I had a great experience at Capella University pursuing my doctorate in Psychology. The process took me a little over 4 years. While I read some of the negative comments I would like to add a few pointers to have a positive experience:

    1. The coursework can be difficult (especially the advanced statistic courses). You must treat the coursework like a job and attend to it every day. This goes for your dissertation writing as well. All the professors I had were extremely competent and were willing to help. Of course you will always prefer some over others, however I did not encounter any that were not responsive.

    2. The residencies are an opportunity to prepare your dissertation proposal and secure approval. If you make the most of your time there you will find them very helpful. There are individuals from every department to help, use them, make appointments to speak with them. Utilize feedback from your cohorts and professors while you are there. At the end of the day I would go back to my room and revise and work on the proposal. This enabled me to ask questions and get verification the next day and set up appointments with departments that I needed help from that were always available.

    3. The mentor and your committee are not there to write your dissertation, they give feedback to make your dissertation better and ready for publication.

    4. My mentor and committee members provided feedback within a predefined timeline and did not miss a deadline.

    5. After my dissertation defense the university completed their end within the timelines outlined to facilitate publication and graduation.

I think that people forget that it is not high school, no one is calling you to tell you that you missed an assignment and they will let you make it up. If you choose to not work on your dissertation for a month that is your choice, but if you keep your momentum you will get it done. My final piece of advice...treat it like a job...figure out how many hours you have to work on your doctorate a week and stick to it. You may have to say NO to a lot of social engagements, but it will get you to your goal. Best of luck!

When I kept checking my account, I found that they had not paid my bill. On 12/5/19, I contacted Financial Aid via chat and was advised my funds had been revoked because I am at the limit. I asked why I was never advised of this and I was told back in November they sent me an email. Yeah, right. I never received an email. Nothing was in my personal email or in my email with the university. I called the number for federal student loans and was advised everything was fine. Yesterday, I contacted financial aid again as this is now 1/7/2020, and told I would not be receiving funds. At this point I am really frustrated. The girl was very rude and told me they sent two emails telling me my funds were not going to be sent and this was back in November.

I told her none were received. She advised I check my spam/junk folder as the university emails sometimes go there. I told her I wanted proof of the emails that were sent. Of course, they cannot provide that. I spoke with my advisor who informed me that when the new billing cycle hits on 1/26/2020, I need to have the $2,125 paid or they drop me from classes until it is caught up. So, for one, how do I come up with that money? #2 Why wasn't I informed my funds were revoked? Why wasn't I notified through my email at the University? I have four courses left and in one now and I will be finished with my degree. Now I can't finish and wasted a lot of time and energy pulling straight "A's" for nothing! My husband and I were very excited to join Capella this past February, my husband for his bachelor's and myself for my master's both in industrial/organizational psychology. I was able to enroll in FlexPath which suited my goals, my husband needed GuidedPath until he could complete the necessary courses to get into FlexPath. Almost from the beginning there were technical issues with logging into the system, sometimes having several days where we couldn't get in to work on assignments, many other times having to use a "back door" to get into the courses. Though frustrating, we dealt with these and continued to work on the courses.

I had set up my program with automatic bill pay, and toward the end of my second quarter, I received notification that if I didn't pay I would be dropped and sent to collections. They had dropped my auto pay without any word to me. My husband was using financial aid, and he received notification that he could not enroll in any classes until he paid his balance. Though he had accepted his financial aid, they didn't process it and were trying to charge him.

As to the classes, in the Master's FlexPath, you don't get to speak or email professors directly. All communication goes through tutors. In the 4 classes that I took, twice tutors changed without notification and usual responses from them were generic replies. One class had an exceptional tutor that reached out to me and was active on the message boards. As to the professors, they have several days to respond to assignments, most do not give feedback until the last minute. One professor was amazing, in the same class as the great tutor, and he gave detailed, pertinent feedback in a timely manner.

Since most assignments build on each other, I would have to wait for other professors to complete their grading process before submitting the next assignment, slowing my progress down. In another instance, I corrected mistakes on an assignment and didn't change the parts that had been graded as "distinguished". The same professor changed my "distinguished" to "non-performance" on one category despite their being no changes, affecting my overall grade. Having no ability to directly contact the professor about this was frustrating, and that was only one instance.

During my last course, my husband was having issues with trying to enroll in classes and more financial aid issues, and I was getting very frustrated with all the little problems that kept adding up. I new it was getting close to a new billing cycle when I got an email saying my advisor had changed for the second time within a month, and I was just done. I emailed and asked to be un-enrolled from Capella. Unfortunately, that was the last day of the billing cycle and by the time I was able to schedule a meeting with her regarding my reasons for leaving, we were in a new quarter. Now I am being charged over $2600 for a quarter I have not participated in.

The idea of FlexPath is great, and I see from other reviews that people have had good luck with it, however it was problematic for my family and in the end has cost the two of us nearly $20k for degrees neither of us completed. This is not my first master's degree. I have an MBA from another online university and never had issues like the ones I've experienced at Capella.

I was a stay at home mom for 20 plus years. When my marriage ended I needed a plan. I decided to return to school to pursue my Master's degree. It was January and I had contact a state school and was accepted. They wanted me to start in June. Capella's program started in February. I was ready and did not want to wait, so I decided I would attend Capella.

The classes were informative and the residencies were a great way to connect with other students. The assignments did not bother me because I enjoy writing. My grades have been good, mostly A's. I made only one B. To be honest I earned the B. For this class I had an assignment due and my boys asked me to watch a Movie marathon with them. One was a home from college and the other about to graduate high school. I can live with the poor grade I made on that paper that I was supposed to have been working on, which lowered my grade to a B. :)

I only had one professor that I had to shake my head about. I had made an honest mistake about a discussion post and only received half credit. I thought it was a rather harsh grade but it honestly didn't affect my grade. I do know that if you don't put forth the effort, you will not complete the program. Capella is proud of their reputation and will not risk that as I have seen individuals who did not pass their residency.

It has been three years now and I am getting ready to start my practicum and internship. I did have a hard time finding an internship ship placement. I would have been finished at least six month to a year earlier had I been able to locate a site earlier. Just a heads up if you are considering this, the reason I had a hard time finding a site had nothing to do with Capella's reputation. The problem was that most sites based their internships on a traditional school calendar and Capella works on 10 week semesters. My suggestion is to network. Join ACA early and look for internship sites there. Capella does not help you find a site. They will help you build your resume and give you suggestions.

My suggestion or advice would be that if you are looking to go to school online then Capella is a good choice. While some people may think you are purchasing a degree, your employer will not think this. I work for a VERY large company and they actually offer discounts at Capella. The reason I did not give Capella five stars is only because I wish that they had sites in each state that they partnered with for internships. Maybe that would be a reach since they have students all over the country. However, the extra year it took me to find an internship site was nerve-racking. At one point I actually thought what else can I do as I have wasted nearly three years of my life.

Now that I have a site I am glad I did not give up. If you are older like me and the online part is intimidating...you can take classes to familiarize yourself with your computer. I did not have any problem navigating their site. I use a Mac and did find that using Google Chrome worked better than using Safari. Hope this helps someone.

I changed my specialization several times but no one ever reached out to me to ask me why I was doing that or why I was not sure of what I wanted to do. I had trouble when submitting an assignment and when I called the help desk they stated they could not help me to be able to resubmit the assignment as the professor had asked. I attended SNHU prior. They always checked on me weekly to see if I was doing ok. They called and gave me positive feedback so that was what I was expecting. It seems Capella expects graduate students to teach themselves and that bothers me. The school may be ok but II miss SNHU and I will probably return there.

I do not blame others for having negative feedback regarding Capella's doctoral process. This process is not for everyone. Unfortunately, as some would experience, Capella does not sell degrees and you must work very hard to complete the program. The Ed.D program was especially tough and reward as a full-time Dad, student and working 70 hours a week. But...my Capella mentor kept me on track and was always available to chat when my motivation sank. For me, the writing was easy. I have a Master's degree in English, so conducting close readings and writing extensively about case studies and leadership was not the issue. My motivation to spend so much time away from my family often got the best of me.

If you are thinking of entering into an Ed.D program Capella's Doctor of Education program was definitely a first-rate experience for me. But remember, if you do not complete the work on-time, address your studies academically, and as a scholar-practitioner, you will not be successful. I would recommend this Ed.D program to anyone looking to better themselves academically and professionally.

I would not recommend Capella to anyone. I investigated this school because my job offered scholarships. I signed up. Never got either scholarship. I got information from them late even though I signed up for financial aid one semester. Later I was hit with a 2500 fee. I took like one class. Super annoyed since I am in the process of buying a house and who needs that extra headache. I would say go anywhere else but here. The entire online set up is different than anything I have ever seen and a little confusing in the beginning. I am super mad. I wasted my time like I did not already have students loans I am currently paying on and now this.

There were several times I considered dropping out due to full time plus hours working as an RN and trying to fit study hours in. Thankfully through the flex path option I was able to stick with it and complete my BSN. It wasn't easy, but Capella helped me achieve a life and career goal. My student loan came from Navient and is now in a deferment. When I informed the representative of this he act like he didn't believe me. So I hung up. Last week, I received another call claiming the same thing. This time I didn't bother to respond, I just hung up the phone. Updated on 04/03/2020: I cannot stress further that Capella University is a for profit University and does not look after their students. I faced discrimination from my internship and then when I took this up with my then Capella Supervisor and faculty advisor I was kicked out of the University for failing to go on an 'awareness course' on time. I appealed the decision and they have been unable to come up with real hard evidence that I needed to go on a self awareness course which was based on myself, making complaints about my external supervisor and wanting to change my supervision group. The moral of this story is if you make a complaint on the clinical mental health counseling course, you can be thrown out and your appeal denied.

Original Review: I am in my final year of the MSC in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have had two very bad experiences on the residencies. My first instructor was rude and picked on ** and disabled students. My second instructor was rude and appeared bigoted against foreigners. I made a complaint both times but nothing was upheld so these instructors think they can get away with anything. For the most part the instructoring is good enough but as I near the end of the MSC it has become repetitive and it feels like courses are just being 'strung out' to make a quick buck. I would avoid this university. It is for profit only.

I was informed when I logged in that I was removed from the class even though the class was not yet at the end date. I am now expected to pay an outstanding balance of 3500 dollars for a class I didn’t not even receive any credit for and they will not release any official transcripts so I can attend another school until I have paid the balance in full even though I have a payment plan set up with them to resolve this. Called the business office at Capella University to discuss an outstanding balance on my daughter's account. Discovered that Capella has a policy of charging you for the tuition if you don't drop a class by a certain date. That's certainly understandable - but if you're changing degree programs and staying enrolled at the University it only makes sense that perhaps the University might allow you to transfer the tuition to another class. My daughter is a Veteran but the rep she spoke with named "Michael," lacked any common sense and when she asked for his supervisor she was denied access to one. I called back a few minutes later and again asked for Michael's supervisor -I believe that Capella University is only one deep in this department. My guess is that Michael is the only rep but don't take my word for it - just call 866-933-5994 and see for yourself. This is a degree mill - find a reputable university before enrolling here.

When we settled, I started back up, but was forced to reenroll. I was then told that since I was still paying off my tuition from prior semester, I can't register for classes until late September (wasting whole summer semester). Due to timing, I enrolled at a different college to be able to continue with school faster. They are now refusing to release my transcript to my new school due to the same reason. I even offered to roll the remaining balance into my student loan, and they refused that too. Have been completely unwilling to even listen to my requests. Capella has been dragging their feet in dispersing my financial aid for months now. I'm in the Flex-Path program (which has increased in price by several hundred dollars, twice, in the past year) and they are refusing to release either my grant or loan money to me. The financial aid department insists it's their policy to hold onto and to disburse in line with their billing sessions every 12 weeks (to ensure they get paid). I told them I don't want them collecting interest on the loan money I'm being charged interest on and they said, too bad that's their policy. I filed a complaint with FAFSA.

In a traditional setting, it is not legal for a college to hold grant money without express permission of the student (unless releasing half each semester). I've also had to call several times to get them working on the financial aid disbursement towards my balance because all their finances page says it the total amount with a small disclaimer stating that some financial aid funds may not have been applied yet. It's been over two months since financial aid was awarded.

I asked to speak with my instructor per her request, sent her an email requesting she call me. Have not heard back as of yet! My grades thus far are of a 3.6 gpa and rapidly progressing through the flex path program. I received a non performance and the feedback not accurate, and incredibly limited! According to the Rubric grading system I completed the questions and have never been told by any other instructors to include bulletpoints in my papers?! Nor does the instructions via the assignment say anything about it beforehand! The instructor was vague and my non performance grade is equivalent to a zero, this is unacceptable!

Also my profile picture does reflect that I am a woman of color, so not sure if that’s potentially the cause for a low score! One might wonder, I also believe I’m experiencing retaliation from former faculty who might be speaking to other advisors faculty etc..and hence this inaccurate, unfair grade! I was also going to submit another paper on this evening per the same course but chose to refrain as I have no idea what this instructor is looking for! She doesn’t include number of pages to complete, nor the format in which she graded me negatively which is ridiculous considering this is an online course, and being vague is a recipe for failure! If it’s not stated via the syllabus then I shouldn’t be graded pertaining to it!

I do feel targeted and am certain I have been discussed with staff privy to notes in my file leading to being treated unfairly! I want my grade to be reflected upon my work and not foolishness, nor for the lack of bullet points which were never mentioned! The remarks that I will learn how to write a paper is absurd, considering I’ve received proficient and distinguished grades prior to this particular instructor!

I also want to drop the course and not have to sit under this instructor the remainder of my time at Capella, also not to have to pay for dropping this course! I also have read numerous online reviews of this institution pertaining to instructors, advisors, being racist! It's worth investigating, including my financial aide title IV being given wrong information and now I’m responsible for a debt by wrong information from the financial advisory team! I hardly have seen faculty who are people of color such as Asians, Latinos, and ** which hence is a problem in itself! The lack of diversity and inclusion is problematic indeed!

But, then, the errors started to affect MY GRADE, as the directions to assignments were patently WRONG!!!

The instructor would not adjust grading and could not improve the course. She snuck back in her shell to keep her cozy online teaching gig. DROP. OUT. I spent 4.5 years pursuing my PhD in Information Technology with a specialization in Information Assurance and Security. The first two years were spent on coursework. The last 2.5 years was on the dissertation. My thoughts:

    1. The coursework is relevant to a PhD. I have 20+ years in leadership in this field and the coursework was appropriate. If you have experience, you can take an accelerated path, reducing your time to complete coursework from about 2.5 years, to 2 years.

    2. The dissertation is tough. I frown upon some of the experience that I and other learners had with the dissertation preparation residencies. Some of us felt a little jerked-around. But, there was a learning/growing process in that, to be perfectly honest. Writing the dissertation was hard for me - took 2.5 years. Several of my learners are still in "writing" mode. To be perfectly honest, this is more about how much focus the learner brings to writing the dissertation, than a reflection on Capella. They WILL let you "struggle" through it, to a degree, as your dissertation MUST be your own work. But if you hear complaints about the length of time to complete a dissertation, please know this is more because of lack of focus by the learner than something derogatory about Capella.

There are a lot of criticisms in these reviews. I experienced none of the problems that some people have written about with their "one star" rating. I recommend Capella to others. I recommend those that are pursuing a PhD that, when it becomes time to do residencies and the dissertation, to find that motivation/focus to knock it out. I think a dissertation could legitimately be completed, in most cases, in 9 months to a year. Not the 2.5 years it took me.

I enrolled in Capella because the courses were cheap, but as the old saying goes, "You get what you pay for." The first class I enrolled in was the Ethics course. I used to teach Ethics, so I figured this would be a breeze. I was absolutely shocked to see how much wrong information the university has in the course work. They pass off what is clearly whimsical opinions about a situation and present it as an "ethical framework". One item I remember well, under Divine Command Theory, said "eating veal is okay because the Bible says we may eat all living things." I clicked "report a problem with this question" at the bottom of the screen and quoted Leviticus 11, where it clearly says some foods are unclean.

In other places in the course, the answers on the tests completely contradict the actual coursework, and it's literally impossible to get the answers right because you just have to guess at what the author happened to think at the moment SHOULD be the right answer, completely irrespective of the ethics or philosophy. I'm seriously wondering how on earth they got accredited... Also, if this is the ethics course, I can't imagine what the other courses will be like.

I completed the course taken, in good standing. And before completion, called about balances that I could possibly have after looking online to get an understanding of the financial breakdown. At the time I only saw disbursements and no balances after disbursements. I called to confirm was that correct and was told it was with a sense of uncertainty. All answers received from any person I spoke with, were give in a language of uncertainty or they gave you the runaround, saying they will follow up and never would. It was their way of sweeping it under rug and hoping you wouldn't call back.

Fast forward, I just recently a collection letter a couple of weeks ago, which my attendance there a year ago. I called right after receipt asking to have it pulled from collections due to not being properly notified of it and I was told, "NO. We called you and emailed your university email," (which was inactive for me after completion of the course). Therefore, I would not have received the email. I counter explained that they had 3 ways of reaching me and if 2 of 3 wasn't getting a response the next is postal mail. Their only argument was, since they are an online university they primarily communicate online. Well if that's the case why did you go as far as, to call?

They should have taken it a step further and sent a mail notification as well. Why am I upset because, they have put a stain on my outstanding credit history. And I tried to correct it with them with complete honesty and was blown off. And apparently this is common because, as I stated in the beginning I should have listened, what happened to me is exactly what happened to that person. I like the online training and mentoring programs along with learning program tools and digital books to help me study and learn at my own pace while still completing homework on time most of the time. I've done one on one training over the website with mentors and even students while chatting over Skype and Whatsapp that really help me complete work and class projects. However, the layout the website can be a little confusing and there are cluttered drop downs. As well as having limited amount of time to complete project.

The features I like about Capella University is the online classroom format. My class time is not time consuming and I love their welcome packet that equips me for learning readiness. But the features I would improve is directed to immediate faculty contact. My overall experience was not easy. In fact, my instructor had no empathy with life and death circumstances for students. In lieu of, accepting late paper. Only giving 50% of paper for 1 day late. These are truly unacceptable educational grading practices. Also, I would recommend to get a laptop for those who can prove need as an incident from the university.
