I was lured in by an offer of $200 off spending $1000 in the mail- I only applied because it was connected to other Amex. Oh boy I regret it now. Huge scammers, I had automatic payments on and they found a way to charge me interest and REFUSE to refund me the $12 interest even though it’s their fault. I have a 822 credit score. They have made the wrong person angry. Everyone please for your peace of mind get any other card but this one, I am completely convinced this is a scam company. They will lower your score and steal your money. I can’t believe they are still in business. Can someone shut them down please?! I’m calling my platinum amex card to complain too- a stain on Amex’s name dear god.

Dissatisfied with Comenity/Academy Sports. Have had this account since 2019 with no lates. I barely use the card and when I do, I immediately pay off. I originally set up automatic draft to account so it would never be late. When I recently paid off a balance of $97 dollars, they charged me a late fee. I contacted their CSM by name of Ariel and she assured me the fee would be removed because of the error on their part. She promised me it would be credited and bring my account to a 0 balance. It’s a crying shame when people who are working for a company, are getting paid to do nothing.

I spent my career in customer service as a CSM and when I said it would get done, you can bet it would get done. Companies don’t seem to care anymore about integrity and honesty. It only strengthen my desire to no longer use credit cards or bank loans. I advise everyone to consider doing the same. Companies everywhere seem to have new practices that give me reason for concern and I just don’t trust they will deliver what they promise.

I had a Dell Financial account for over 20 years. They switched to this company and I have serious issues. Set up automatic payments in June 2024. It is now September 2024 and they still have not taken payments properly from my account and have stated that it can *take up to 2-3 months* for automatic payments to process properly. I call and the reps state that I can be 'rest assured' my payment will go through, but it's three business days after it should have been processed. The whole point of setting automatic payments is to ensure timely payments in the first place. I should not have to call to chase a bank to do its job or MAKE PAYMENTS OVER THE PHONE when I have automatic payments set up. Absolutely absurd.

Credit card is a scam. The first bill I received said that I was late paying so there was a late payment plus interest. Then when I said I wanted to pay it off in full and to close the account they added another months interest. So they got 6$ in interest and a 35$ late charge on a 22$ charge. Never shopping there again. Their stuff is garbage anyway. They are thieves.

Contacted Bread Rewards customer service, which was a complete circus being transferred back-and-forth between fraud and disputes. After about six months of no help and being told it was not a fraud case, finally had to get a lawyer involved. It has been over a year since the transaction which I still have to pay on my credit card. Worst credit card ever. Would not recommend it. Customer service is terrible.

Purchased hearing aids on 5/28/24; refinanced with another bank because of the high interest rate that Comenity was charging. Called for pay off several times and the new bank even called for payoff. Payment was sent on 6/25/24. Interest charges of $87.73 were charged on 7/2/24 after account was paid in full. After not receiving disputing the charges and no help from customer service, we reluctantly paid the $87.73 so they would not ruin our credit. That payment was on 7/25/24 - the due date! On 8/2/24, they billed us another $3.00 for minimum interest charges. How many times do we have to pay off this scam of a "HealthiPlan"?????

I keep seeing all the bad reviews for the (Bread Company/Comenity). Why doesn't people go to their Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau to start an investigation into the practices of this company. We have consumer protections set up here in the United States and everyone needs to use these protections. This is going to ruin the businesses that are associated with this company if they continue to use them, sometimes they don't care sometimes they want to have good customer service. Everyone NEEDS to get their attention. I called them and did not have a good result and am no longer using the card. Just paying it off.

Bad communication resulted in over $350 in interest charged when a promotion came to an end. They buried the end date on the bills they sent, and they did not notify me specifically (like other banks do) that the promotion was about to expire. This was very deceptive. I paid the entire balance, but that extra $350 will cost them thousands in potential future sales. This "bank" operates questionably, and there are many reviews to support this. They will lose business for using such practices. I hope that $350 was worth losing a customer forever because this will be the last money I spend with them.

I used it in May, paid the bill in June third, payment didn't go through, made another payment with the automated. Payment was accepted. Said routing number was incorrect. I looked at my transactions and found a $30 return check charge. Talk to them about it and they would not remove $30.00 check charge. Even though the payment issue was on their end and told them I would no longer use their credit card. Talked with my bank and found they never even attempted the first payment, close the account and will no longer shop with their department. This unhealthy, as they are now going to lose my business and I'm a very loyal shopper. Just poor service from them.

Have an Ulta Bread Card and I realized my payment was due that day at 8:00PM, so I went to go pay it. Turns out, it's considered late at 5:00PM. I did not realize this. I have never paid late. I have great credit and I asked for them to waive the late fee. (I paid literally 3 hours late). They waived $15. While I understand they don't have to waive anything, I didn't understand why they'd waive $15, but not $30 as a one time courtesy. They told me that my account was only eligible for $15 waive, and now I'm no longer eligible for any waived fees.

I asked to file a complaint and the supervisor very condescending. Tried to ask me why I didn't set up autopay. I didn't know that was a feature of your credit card, but you don't even have notification options to allow someone to know that their bill is due this day. I had this happen with another CC recently due to massive amounts of chaos happening in life causing me to lose track of things and they were kind enough to waive the entire fee and then explained about autopay. I completely appreciate a solution, but I can't retroactively apply a solution. Is it something I will use moving forward on other cards? Yes, but this card is being canceled because this seems incredibly predatory.

Stay away from this company! I have been trying to get a letter from Bread Rewards stating that my wife has been removed from my account as an authorized user. This nightmare started on 4/2/24, I called customer service and explained my situation to them and was told that the letter would be emailed to my account and all I needed to do was sign in and the letter would be there. The letter was not there and a couple of days later I called back and was told the same thing. I sign in to my account and nothing was there. So I sent an email to them stating what I needed and why, they responded back informing me that the letter would be mailed and it would take 2 weeks. Still no letter. I called again and this time I spoke with a manager and explained to him what I needed and why, and this time I asked him to fax it; he reassured me that I would receive it and if I didn’t to call him back, he gave me his name and contact information.

I checked again yesterday and the letter still had not arrived. I called back on 4/12 to let the manager know that I had not received the letter and that was very important. I was told that the letter was faxed and it came back unsuccessful. And I was also told that they don’t fax to third parties. I’m working a lender who is trying to get me qualified for a house. I’m frustrated with these people because it should not take all of this. I just want the letter! And I need it now!!

I couldn't figure out why I ALWAYS had a balance on my Victoria's Secret card & why I was always getting hit with late fees. Well, ladies, I just got off the phone with a very nice agent and she explained that even though I was paying my account off to a ZERO balance, the following week they add a MINIMUM INTEREST fee of $2.00. Since I believed my balance was paid in full, I wouldn't always check the following month. Once my due date passed (on a balance that was paid in full - except for the $2.00 rip off fee) they charged me $37.00 in late fees. So, every month they were getting $40.00 out of me.

I took their word for it over the phone, but today I was in front of my computer and went over the bill with the agent. And just so you know, they don't allow you pay over the amount due on the website. What a freaking joke. I WILL BE CLOSING THIS ACCOUNT! COMENITY BANK - MORE LIKE CROOK BANK. They also own LOFT, Bed Bath & Beyond, Ikea, Ulta, Buckle, Justice, Children's Place, Crate & Barrel, Forever 21, J. I signed up for a card a few weeks ago. I never got the card. When I got my first bill, I couldn't pay it because I didn't have the card number (I thought). I called and wrestled with the automated system. I have a paralyzed vocal cord so can't use the voice commands reliably. When I finally got a person, he told me the number was at the bottom of the page. What kind of stupid sense does it make to "secure" the card number in the account number box but then print it out in full at the bottom of the same page?? So I go online to pay my bill. It won't save my bank info. I call back and am told I need to use the Chrome browser.

We don't use Chrome; we use a secure browser that works fine with all our other accounts, and we are not going back to Chrome now for ANYbody. So I decide to go back to the phone automated assistant. I can't type the cc number in fast enough and it sends me again to a representative. And again, she refuses to help me unless I pay a $9.00 fee and sends me back to the phone system. It took me a solid half hour to pay my bill and close my account. Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. No matter my problem, they still refused to do any work on it themselves without an exorbitant fee. Never again Comenity. I will remember you, and Bread Financial, forever.

Awful Credit Card System, If I could give zero, I would. I should not have reapplied. I closed my card in 2015 for the same reason. First, you struggle to log in to your account. When you finally access it, you try to enter your account information to set up autopay, and it won't let you; then you manually pay it, and it doesn't go through. The next thing you know, foreign call center agents are relentlessly contacting you for a late payment; you're considered delinquent now too.

I tried to pay it in full to get it over with, and the next month I have a $2 interest charge that I never thought I would have because I paid in full, right? No! Now $2 became $40 including late fees, and you are delinquent again! What a terrible experience with this company! Don't get this card; the discount is not enough to cover the late fees if you can't log in or pay online. You call, you wait on the phone forever, then talk to foreign agents who have no compassion, all giving deep sighs as though they're tired of talking to other unsatisfied customers like me. So frustrating. I'm closing this account as soon as I pay off this ridiculous $2 interest charge again; the charges never stop!

Don't get a loan from these guys. They have a loan management portal that uses language to INTENTIONALLY cover up how their payment system works and the current status of your loan. When you make a payment, you have an option to select "towards installment" or towards "principal amount." If you you attempt to pay part of your installment a few weeks early, it automatically attributes it as a pre-payment towards your principal, even if you select "towards installment." Their website does not make this clear. Once your second paycheck comes in and you are ready to pay off the other half of your installment for that month, it still says you owe the initial total amount for that month.

Furthermore, I had a 6 month loan. I worked my way up to being two months ahead of my payments, only to find that they changed the terms DEFINED IN THE CONTRACT from a 6 month loan to a 4-month loan. I had already spent my budgeted $577 that month, only to discover in 2 weeks I still would owe ANOTHER $577 instead of $0.

Had I been in the same financial spot I was a several years ago, I'd be screwed. I wouldn't have been able to make my payment and the massive interest charge penalties would have kicked in. How Bread writes their very ambiguous contracts, displays the status of your loan, and how they (to my knowledge, I'm not an attorney) BREAK THEIR OWN CONTRACT TERMS... ALL OF THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. SHAME ON THEM. They are vultures preying on the poor.

I received this Bread Rewards card in the mail despite the fact that I don't remember applying for it. I figured that one of my other Comenity cards was converted from Visa to Amex. It seemed attractive because of the high rebates for gasoline and groceries, but what I really liked was that there would be no foreign currency transaction fees. We are planning a trip to Europe, so this would be great (I thought). After I activated the card, I tried it at a gas station, which was immediately denied. When I called the service number, I was told that it was denied because it was too soon after the card was activated (same day), or because I had not built up a spending pattern with the card. (It evidently uses AI to determine if it thinks a particular transaction is fraudulent).

A few days later I tried it again and got 2 purchases accepted, but the next time, the transaction was denied. I called again and was told that it was because of the system's algorithm for detecting fraudulent transactions. I asked what those rules entailed, but was told that information was not available. I was denied a third transaction, so I have now given up ever using this card. It's just unreliable.

I only found that I owed them $188 dollars when I ran a credit report! I had to call customer service to even get into the site, as my personal information was so old. The website is hard to get into and it was very hard to an actual person for assistance. I received one late charge and was able to get out of the most recent. Updated on 10/04/2023: After closing and paying off their two wretched credit cards in mid-October, 2023, I received a crumpled-edged letter on 11/02/23, but dated 10/11/23. The belated letter acknowledged closure of my second account. It cited the amount due, which had been paid off a few weeks ago. I checked my online accounts and both reflect zero balances. Don’t fall for their fantastic promo offers like I did. My past experiences with what was previously called Comenity were positive. Unfortunately, I trusted their previous reputation. Stay far, far away from those bait and switch charlatans.

Original Review: I assume that any positive reviews you read about Bread Financial are from shills. All negative posts should be believed, including mine. I’ve had a Bread Cash Back credit card for about four months. Aside from their many website glitches and outages, the more important issue is their assumption that there was fraud on my fraudless account; therefore, my card was locked three times, and unlocked twice. After three phone calls and one snail mail letter, my rectifying efforts resulted in them constantly kicking the can down the road. I was told of ongoing investigations, prompted by them, not me.

The last communication from them (via snail mail letter) asked me to call them within 30 days, or the account would be closed. I called immediately after receiving the letter. Again, the can was kicked pending further investigation. I told them to close the account, called them deplorable, and added that they earned their many negative online reviews.

I have a second fraudless Bread credit card ‘under investigation,’ which is about to cheat me out of $50 cash back. I was $17 short of earning it, and then it was locked. I expect this account to undergo the same scenario as the aforementioned. To me, principle is worth far more than money. Most likely, I’ll also cancel the second account. I expect that Bread is using this tactic to claw back any earned cash rewards. If so, I’ll be happy to reimburse them. I'll pay back this bank so as to maintain their distance as far away from me as possible. As an addendum, my complaint includes their savings account, which is untenable. I’m so happy that I don’t have to worry about the $3 remaining in my savings account. Bread is welcome to it.

No international transaction. Nowhere near my limit. Just paying for a lunch for clients and waiter/waitress returns to tell you that the card is declined.

Several times this has happened. Each time taking several days to address because each employee forwards the message to another, and each time they have up to (and they have used it every time) 48 hours to respond. So, to answer one question, why is my account frozen, it will take roughly 6 days... When I confronted the company about this mishandling of their product, I was thrown into a forwarding loop.

Most recently, Ms. S. ** gave me no information on the status of my account, no information on when it would be unfrozen, and no regard for her stress and embarrassment that her company has caused. Comenity is now doing this again to me; same as the card I had from them for Wayfair. Although ALL my payments are on time, for whatever reason they have decided to end their partnership with Wayfair and now Overstock. They will be closing my account, just like they did with Wayfair. When they did this to me with Mayfair, my credit score dropped over 50 points. How utterly irresponsible and negligent!!!! I imagine this falls on deaf ears, they just don't care. I am rushing to pay the card off now to beat that deadline and close the account myself and then using my own time (thanks a lot Comenity), I will contact each credit bureau. I will NEVER take a card from them again. They just don't care.

My AAA credit card was transferred to Bread (Comenity) without my knowledge. In the process, my automatic payment information was lost and my bills were not being paid. Eventually, my credit limit was exceeded and I was charged a $119 penalty. I immediately paid what I owed on the account and opened a dispute to recover the $119 penalty in November, 2022. I have called a dozen times since then (it is now June, 2023) and have been told that they are still reviewing the matter. It is difficult to get through the customer service system to talk to a supervisor but I have done this several times. All they can do is make a note on my dispute record that I called again.

There is no way for the customer service rep (or me) to communicate directly with the people handling the dispute. This can’t be a backlog issue since they’ve already had 7 months to resolve this issue. It looks a lot like I’m just being stonewalled because they don’t want to reimburse the money. In my opinion, the customer service system is failing miserably on this issue. I have also found that their first-level reps have been almost no help at all and frequently give me incorrect status information.

On May 3, I called Comenity about my Caesars Rewards Visa, I let them now I was going to New York & would be using my card for payment while in NYC on May 9th-11th. In NYC on May 10th, I attempt to make a purchase & my card is declined. I call Comenity & go through their Fraud steps, they confirm its me, they tell me they have unlocked my account. I wait approx 30 min & use my card again & it is again declined. I called them back to see what was going on again & I am told their fraud department needs to send me a code. I wait a few minutes and I have not received anything and they tell me they sent it again. I get the code and give it to them. I am told the code doesn't match and my account has been PERMANENTLY CLOSED due to fraud.. They tell me there is nothing they can do, I have no other options to prove I am me, NOTHING.

I have an 791 credit score, never a later payment, and just like that they permanently closed my account and tell me they cant reopen it. What I believe happened is when the woman resent the code the second time she actually sent a different code. After I got off the phone with them I saw I had received a SECOND message with a different code. I was NEVER told they would be sending a DIFFERENT code when they resent it nor did I have any way to know when I received the first code that it was not the code they wanted since it was the first code I saw I received before I saw I was sent a second code.

I was never told if you get this wrong while standing in the middle of NYC without payment options, trying to figure out what is going on with your account that we are going to PERMANENTLY CLOSE your account. Mind you I had already confirmed my name, address, phone number, last 4 of ss number, last 2 payment amounts and the bank information those payments came from but apparently that wasn't enough information to confirm it was me.

I asked to speak to a Manager and was connected to "Jose" who was rude, unhelpful, basically told me they were a bank and could do whatever they wanted and they weren't going to open my account back up. I could have sent them photo ID or other options if they had fraud concerns. I already have reservations for Caesars properties in Las Vegas for June but if this can't be resolved and I can't continue earning points with my Caesars Visa then I will probably cancel my reservations and go with MGM instead who have given me no issues. Caesars need to figure out how Comenity bank is costing them customers due to their horrible customer service.

This company has constantly hit me with delinquent payments and tanked my credit score by 100 points. 1/19/2023 - $105.00 delinquent payment 2/16/2023 - $148.00 delinquent payment. Despite me calling them multiple times and asking them why I have these charges, they told me specifically that my account was closed. A few months ago Comenity took over AAA credit Cards, or at least part of them. From the start I had nothing but problems. No new card was sent, so I didn't have an account number to reference. That took 2 months to fix. Then their web page was inactive for new users. Then it wouldn't let me set up automatic payments until I verified my email, phone number, and address, So I did that, but website didn't recognize it was verified. Called customer service. Not helpful at all. The rep would say, "oh. I don't handle that", and give me the main number. Finally got my information verified and set up auto pay. Last month no issue, then this month no auto pay. The website once again had my account as not verified and auto pay off. So I paid off the balance and will never do business with this company again.

Lastly the last time I was able to access their website I found out they will not let you setup automatic payments before the due date, but warn you in the questions and answers that you need to be sure to send the payment in time so it will not incur a late fee. Let me start by saying I have a FICO score close to 800; I don’t need the credit. I got the Sony card because they gave me $150 for free, and my kids use it for PS5 games. I didn't receive a statement, and their web portal didn’t work because of a system error. I received a call from one of the customer service reps telling me my payment was due, so I made the full payment on the due date over the phone with the customer service representative. I even asked the representative if there was going to be a balance left, and I was told that this paid the card completely off and nothing is going to be owed next month. What I didn't know is that the payment would post the next day, which would automatically give me a $40 late fee on my account. That $40 late fee I was unaware that was on my account because I made the full payment over the phone with the rep and clarified with the rep that the account was paid in full.

I receive another call from customer service representative 45 days later thim telling me that I owe them an $84 balance which includes a late fee plus interest on the late fee. I asked the current rep why I have a balance, and they said, "Because your payment with the representative was posted a day after they took your payment, you were charged interest and a late fee." Now, I have cards with American Express, Chase, Discover, Citibank, symphony, and more I have so many cards that I can buy $160k of credit on my cards; I've never had this happen.

In my opinion, this bank is predatory and experienced. My recommendation is to refrain from doing business with them. Comenity Bank is looking for ways to take money from consumers. Citibank is a much better bank, American Express is a great credit card, personal and business, and the ink card is one of the best business cards I own. I will cancel my Sony card with Comenity Bank. I will never do business with this bank again with my business and my personal accounts. 1. On September 29, 2022 I ordered a pair of shoes from the Nordstrom website. I applied for a store credit card when the option came up. I believed it was a Nordstrom card. However it was a Woman Within card with Comenity Bank. Supposedly I was getting a 40% discount with the card.

    2. Once receiving my order, I tried on the shoes. They were too big. I requested a return on October 24, 2022 using their "Happy Returns" policy which was well within their return policy date. Several places were listed to make the return. It seemed easy enough. I returned the product on November 4, 2022 still within the 60-day return policy. I received a return receipt issuing a credit for the merchandise.

    3. Shortly afterward I received a bill. I phoned customer service to let them know I had returned the product. I told them I had a confirmation # for the return. They did not want any confirmation. I was attempting to contact Woman Within but Comenity reps. always seem to answer.

    4. I received a second bill, this time with late fees and interest. I phoned again. I told them the same offering the same. They did not want a confirmation for the return and then told me they would be conducting an "investigation." Nothing like making a new customer feel welcome.

    5. On January 2, 2023, after their "investigation" I received a letter stating I would receive a $60.13 credit removing all late fees and late charges. That I would need to pay the amount on my new invoice.

    6. I received an invoice on January 30, 2023. I now have a balance of $72.14 (that includes a $5.19 fee) that can only be used toward a "Woman Within" purchase. This is because the store ONLY issues credit. So I have to pay for a pair of shoes that I believed was coming from Nordstroms and was returned months ago. And, pay with interest. (The original bill was $74.08.)

The bank claims the reason I have the balance is because Woman Within has not issued a credit. So does this make sense? Pay the bank $72.14.(It's the ONLY charge on the card.) And then Woman Within will issue a credit to me to use at their lousy store. I don't know who's the scammer...the bank or the store. A little of both, I suppose. Comenity Bank, evidently, is the bank behind other store credit cards and some major. Maybe they should consider pulling their agreement with Woman Within after seeing the negative reviews of the store.

I would give the experience a zero if it was provided on the rating chart. In October my AAA visa was changed from B O America to Comenity Bank. This was the worst thing! AAA could have done. In the almost 20 years that I had my visa with Bank of America, I might've made three or four phone calls. Since Comenity took over in October, I probably called at least 10 times. First they took almost 3 weeks to issue my new credit card, even though I told him I had no other credit card. There were some disputes on the billing because of the crossover without having a card, so that took a long time and some phone calls to resolve. I was due a credit from one vendor, that took a while to finally be rectified, and I was mainly the one doing the leg work.

I still had some reward points left over so I used them for a gift card worth $75. I redeemed it on Comenity bank website & the order was put through and I received a confirmation number. That was on November 30, 2022. As of today January 17, 2023, I didn't receive the gift card, after calling a few times and sending a message to the message center. Each time they gave me the runaround, that they would look into it. Today, I was told where did I get this card? Where did I buy it? Who issued it? Real runaround ridiculous things. So they're keeping $75 of my reward points because it's just so beyond exasperating to deal with them, that I just told the representative to close the account.

I'm glad I never charged anything on this account; they couldn't care less. The representative just said "OK. " Didn't care to lose business or to accommodate a customer who rightfully had the gift card information and the proper order number. Just to be sure, I said, "Make certain you send me a confirmation letter that the account is closed." Again he said fine. Someone told me that Comenity Bank is the backer of Many store accounts. Stay away from this bank, as their customer service is zero or more to the -0 column. I am so disappointed with AAA organization, that they stooped to this level, and did not care about their customers at all.

According to the offer for the card, those who signed up would get instant approval, which I am assuming is based on an excellent credit score. My credit score is 830-850. There is no reason I would not get instant approval. I didn't get instant approval and since I needed the computer I was looking to purchase, I ended up having to pay the taxes. That irritated me as I should have been able to instantly use the card and savings that was being offered.

A week later I get a letter in the mail asking for additional information. When I called Comenity I had to wait on the phone for a considerable amount of time to get an agent. When I got the agent, I was told that the holdup wasn't due to my credit score but that they just needed additional information for verification. Why on earth the verification process wasn't completed at signup and I didn't get the instant approval that some others received is beyond me. I told Comenity I was no longer interested in their card. You don't offer instant approval and not give it to someone with a credit score like mine. Since Comenity took over, I have had 2 months of hassles, issues, and now have a frozen account. I received NO heads up or information about the takeover, paid my Sept payment to BofA like usual. Tried to log in to make my October payment, and the account is no longer accessible on BofA. Tried again a couple of time the next couple of weeks, since I had no idea what was happening and figured it was a site glitch and I'd just have to suck up a late charge. My old due date with them was the 3rd of the month. Then, I got a random message from Comenity Bank stating my account was overdue and I owe a min payment of almost $800. (I have another small store card with Comenity with zero balance, so this threw me a bit.)

Called Visa customer service number on the back of the card to make a payment, now very late, and was told about the changeover. Customer service agent was nasty on the phone. (I asked to make a payment over the phone and heard her smack her teeth and sigh.) At this point, I HAVE to make a payment over the phone, as I have NO way of accessing my Visa account. I have not received a new card, have no account number, etc... I also requested a new card and info on how to access account be sent so I won't be late next month. Payment made for October, finally, on the 27th.

Never got my new card in the mail until November 4th, when I was out of town for the weekend. Only a card arrived- no other information, no account terms, nothing. Apparently, Comenity has made my new due date the 1st. Set up online account with new card, accessed and paid November balance on the 7th when I returned, called customer service to explain situation and request late fees and penalties be removed for November, as their oversight caused the problem. Late fees removed, Nov payment made.

Went to use my card in a store a few days later for $100 and it was declined for "insufficient funds", with a 17k credit limit remaining open on the card. Called and spoke with 2 different reps (no supervision was available in call center, call transferred to "US call center" from there). Rep informed me that my payment being late- even though it was not on me- freezes the account for the remainder of that billing cycle. I asked why and when this policy started, and was told rudely that "that's how Comenity bank has always done it". I made sure my account, now useless, was at least paid through the next billing due date and was assured I was up to date until Dec 1st. Reps made it plain that the company is accepting NO responsibility for late payments here, and make me out to be "delinquent".

A couple of days later, got a call from Comenity Bank billing dept that my account was overdue and I owed almost $800....AGAIN. I hung up on them. Logged into my account today and there are giant red flags all over the screen saying "Account overdue!" and "Past due!" but my next billing statement is for Dec1st and Nov payments have posted. This has been nothing but a headache for 2 months. If the card didn't carry a balance and my credit wouldn't take a hit from cancelling a 22 year credit history, I'd cancel this card today. Comenity is horrendous to do business with.

So I explained to her that I received my bills so why wouldn't I receive the card so I asked for her escalation Department and she hung up on me and so many companies use this company for their credit cards and they are horrible.

AAA transferred its credit card services from BofA to Comenity in the Fall of this year (2022). On the transfer date all account information was cut off from the accounts by BofA but Comenity was unable to successfully activate cards they sent in the mail. Two months later I am still without one of my cards and their website is down so I have no way to see what I owe or to make payments. When the site was up, I couldn't cash in my rewards credit, the website failed. The only way to get information is to spend hours on the phone waiting for their miserable phone support to respond. They admit to 'problems' with the transfer and their website. What a disastrous move for AAA. Their credit card service via BofA was excellent. I assume they switched to Comenity for cost reasons. Their reputation has suffered as a result.

I will pay off my balance, let them keep their rewards and NEVER EVER use them again. Their system was down from June till July and their explanation is that they are still working out the kinks!! If you are having problems signing in, accessing your account, or creating an account YOU MUST GO TO AAA.COM/ADVANTAGE. DO NOT TRY SIGNING IN AT COMENITY DIRECTLY. This is not very intuitive.... but look at your statement. It says "Account Questions? Need to make a payment? Want to know how to go paperless? Visit AAA.COM/ADVANTAGE." This is the most appalling, atrocious, shady company you will ever deal with. I have waited over two hours on hold to speak to a manager, we had to file a complaint with a supervisor named "Robyn" so who said they're "a huge bank and never have had a customer with the online issues I've experienced" accusing me of being a "condescending liar". This not only was immature comment especially coming from a manager, it was absolutely appalling. She also claimed that they're a "huge bank" but then later said "when you file your complaint about me you only need my first name because I'm the only Robyn in the organization." Hmmmm let's think about that one again.

Year to date we still haven't been able to get our issues resolved. Hold time on average is 2 hours, which two managers have admitted this is bad customer care on their end. They charge you a $9 fee on the phone to make payments even when their website is down and there is no other way to make a payment. They're also "such a HUGE BANK" that they don't have an APP whatsoever. THIS IS A VERY SCARY, SHADY and UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY. By the way if your credit card sold you off to this shady company, they are giving all new customers a 60-day window until they bump up your interest rate to 15% (only one honest manager admitted this). STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

They issued Ikea credit cards rewards through certificates at the end of the monthly statement without notifying and there are short windows for you to use them before they expire. When I figured it out, six certificates already been expired and they refused to re-issue. Fine, I paid for my fault. Then I got three certificates from the July statement, $15 each and $45 in total, which will be expired on 10/31.

However, no matter we went to the store to use them or tried online, showing they are invalid certificates. Called customer service back and forth, wasted TWO HOURS, and they are not able to resolve the issues and kicking me to Ikea customer service. But seriously, how could Ikea customer service know how to deal with it since the certificates are issued by the bank (verified other certificates for other month statements worked which means not Ikea system issue). They tried to kick me again to Ikea after I re-called and I asked to speak to the supervisor. Another ONE HOUR, not resolved. SPEECHLESS... Please definitely avoid this bank in the future!!!

We had a AAA Visa Card for 15 years through Bank of America. Without notice and from one day to the next, I was locked out of my B of A online account. B of A had no idea why and thought it was a technical issue, so they wrote up a ticket to have our account reviewed. The next day, they informed me the credit card had been transferred to some no name bank (Comenity Bank). My payment was due in a few days, so I had to speak with someone at Comenity. After an hour hold (and automated nightmare), I spoke with a VERY rude woman that was willing to take my payment, but only if I agreed to a $10 charge - despite my explaining to her that we were never sent new credit cards/new account information, nor any notice of the change.

Furious with her attitude, I hung up, but then realized, I’d better make the payment on time instead of dealing with a late fee and any other penalties this bank might impose. I had to wait another hour to get someone back on the line to make the payment - but only a partial payment, because they can only take $10k per day. The next day, I had to hold another hour to make the additional payment. Unbelievable! A week has gone by, and we have yet to receive any account information or new credit cards. More worrisome, I received an email today that does not reflect my payment, yet it was immediately withdrawn from my bank. It also indicated that I can now set up an online account - how am I going to do that without any account information? We expected more from AAA and will be closing the account.

Payments to Comenity from my bank's bill pay service never go through (they've gone through flawlessly for over 10 years to every other creditor). Comenity wants payments made through their site, but I use my bank's bill pay for security and convenience--there is absolutely NOTHING convenient about having to log into the one oddball company that refuse to work with the rest of the world. At this point, $700 in payments (verified by my bank) is lost somewhere in Comenity's little lost world. We had a BOA AAA Visa account for more than 30 years. The recent change over to Comenity Bank was a total nightmare. Their automated "customer service" phone lines just get you into an endless do-loop and I was never able to activate the new Visa card they sent. It took me dozens of attempts to finally connect with a living human being who was finally able to activate my card. A day later when I tried to access our Visa account on their website it didn't recognize our account number and other information. In desperation I finally opened a Visa account with USAA, where I was served start to finish by a real human being... Should have made the switch LONG ago.

I then tried to close our Comenity Visa account and had the same frustrating go around with their automated "customer service." Again, after multiple attempts and endless purgatories of being on hold I finally connected with a real human being (who was working from home, accompanied by her barking dog and someone shouting in the background). When I told her I wanted to close our Visa account (which had only been activated less than a week before) she informed me that it was already closed... ON 13 DECEMBER 2020!!!

She confirmed that the account number which her system said was already closed was the same "new" account number on the Visa card Comenity sent me a month ago. So, according to Comenity they had already closed an account 22 months BEFORE sending me a new Visa card for that same account. I can only conclude that Comenity Bank has gone "Back to the Future!" That said, I STRONGLY advise anyone holding any financial relationship with Comenity Bank to drop them like a hot potato! I rate them with one star because that is the lowest choice available, but if I could I would award them a negative five stars.

I have held a AAA Credit Card since 2013 through Bank of America. Well, BoA decided my and many other's business wasn't valuable, so they dumped us into the dumpster fire that is Comenity Bank. Wow, what a pile of trash. First day on the site, I had to go through some rigamarole to set my account up. I log in, and the thousands of points I had saved up had been slashed to a measly value of $50.00. I decided to click and see what rewards I could hope to earn. The website went to a 404 Error.

Well, you can't check your credit score like you could with BoA. Their 2 Factor Authentication didn't send my email or text code for updating my info. I couldn't tell when my due date was. I began to worry. My face looked like the Fry meme, where his eyes are narrowed. It was at that moment I knew I had been lured into a trap and the only way out was through my wallet. Tunnel vision set in as I frantically Googled reviews. Oh no. These clowns have cornered the market on store credit cards, luring in shoppers who want to "Earn rewards" and "save big" by using their cards. Sadly, the rewards will probably never come. Then I clicked on their Facebook. Comment after comment about late fees, rude reps, and extra costs to pay off your card over the phone.

This card is an insult. This card reminds me of living in a penthouse [my AAA card] and then suddenly you've woken up and you're in a seedy trailer park somewhere trying to avoid the bums asking for money. I am so excited, though- my resolve has never been stronger. I've already cut the card up and make little payments here and there. I cannot rate this business low enough. I have this company for two store cards, and I really regret it. I have had one card since roughly 2015, made payments on time consistently, and since they've been bought by Bread Financial I have had nothing but problems. They keep moving due dates around for one card, calling multiple times a day claiming we are behind, once claiming we owed three months of payment and we weren't behind at all. My other credit line said they were sending me a new card when I lost my current one. They didn't, and I was without a card for actual years. I requested a new one several times, and the same thing always happened.

It worked okay because I could pay and access credit in store, but when they were bought by Bread Financial they had tons of issues. I couldn't pay or use my card because the in store system was down, but customer service didn't tell me this, only hounded me for payment. They assured me once I paid them I could access the credit line in store. I spent hours on the phone in store with their store help line before I learned it was a system issue. So whether they realized it or not, customer service lied to me for over a week.

I finally got a card, but no thanks to customer service. As it turns out, they tell you they ordered a new card and don't, because the in store line said there was no card ordered for me in the system. I continue to have issues with them saying I owe money when I don't. They pass off every issue to the customer and it is unacceptable how I have been a good customer for a long time, but it means absolutely nothing. I have filed formal complaints and nothing has happened. They mostly back store credit cards, so stay away and research who the bank is before you open any. It is not worth the convenience, because you will spend way more time on the phone with customer service and whatever bad information they have hounding you for money you don't owe than convenience is worth.

Comenity Bank is awful. I have a few cards thru them and let me say they are just horrible. I've had Victoria's Secret for almost 2 yrs, never missed a payment on it or any of my cards for that matter. I always pay early but this card I started out with 150 cl and now I'm down to 50 bucks they have continued to decrease my limit because my credit score has dropped down some. And now the same thing with the Sephora card. I had 250 cl. It's been paid up for 3 months. Victoria's Secret has been paid up for a while as well. I did use them both here and there and paid them up before they decided to do this crap.

Oh and I just checked Sephora has dropped down to 100 cl. Are you kidding me. They do not care about their loyal cardholders. They are messing with people's credit utilization and credit scores. I won't use those cards again. They can cancel them. It's appalling to me how they treat their cardholders. If you want a good loyal credit card company that won't decrease your cl. If your score drops a little go with Capital One I have a bunch of their cards they have never decreased my limit only upped my limit because they can see. I'm never late. I pay early and more than the payment due. Comenity you need to do better. You're losing business and going to continue to lose business.

Do I hear bankruptcy in the near future for Comenity. Yes I think I do you know I had a card through them years ago and they never pulled this crap with me. In fact I had a few with them and never did they decrease my limit. Pebbles and goodies is what I had. Everyone has told me that they are awful, to stay away, that since COVID they have been doing this too people. I didn't want to believe them but they were right. Capital One needs to take over for Victoria's Secret and all the other stores they are over. I absolutely love my Walmart card and have received 2 cl increases in the past yr of having it and my Kohl's card thru Capital One as well.

They have upped my limit a few times over the past 2 yrs. Just saying Capital One knows that credit scores go up and down. They look at the payment history and see if they pay on time. They don't go by your score alone and they don't decrease you ever and they don't punish their cardholders. They are number one because of it. That should tell you something. Comenity you're not going to have many cardholders left by continuing this. So if you thinking of applying yeah it's all great at first but wait after 6 months if your score has dropped they cut your credit limit down and continue to cut it down. Not worth it. Just makes you mad you even opened an account with them.

Don't do it. Applicants beware of and my credit score only dropped because I opened a couple new credit cards that I was wanting. Can they see they are active and in good standing - yes they can but they don't care. You're just a score to them and if it's not the same as when you got the card or better then you're getting decreased. So if you want a card thru them don't open anything new and don't let your score drop and use the card every month or they will decrease it. All I can say hope this helps someone. Wish I would have listened and never opened any with them!!!

I called the bank right away and the representative had the $30.00 late fee removed. However, the representative said that they could not remove the accrued interest. I made a payment through my bank and the account I set up years ago and it was paid on August 16. I tried to get gas on that same day and my card was rejected.

I received an email from my bank on August 25TH that Comenity returned the money and that my account had an invalid account number. I called Comenity on August 25 and talked to a representative and she indicated that I NOW owed $381.05 but that she would take off the 30.00 fee that was removed the last time I called. So I gave her a payment by check for $351.05. My card was reinstated. The representative indicated to me that the bank was trying to make sure that all billing account information matched the card number. If that is true, I wasn’t notified that I needed to set up a new account. If this was not the situation, I do not understand how payments that were getting paid in the past with the same bank account number were now being rejected beginning with this last payment.

When I received my last payment, Comenity is now charging me interest on the card. I usually pay off the bill every month. Now that I'm afraid to use my own bank account number for them, I set up an account with My BJs Perks but for some reason, it would not allow me to pay off the entire balance. Which means I'll be receiving more interest next month. I will probably will not use this card frequently.

I've only had this Comenity card a few months, thought it was a good card but now I know better. Was never able to get my cash back, was told it would take 45 days whereas other cards instantly apply your reward, so in order to not get a late fee I just paid the cash back balance. Customer service was horrible, had these people who don't speak well and they were very rude. I made many calls but to no avail. And they had told me I had to change my password by June 27 but when the time came, their system was down for a month.

I never intend to use this card again. And I found out that Zales Jewelry uses them and I had a hard time making payments. If I went into the store to pay them, it took an act of Congress because of all the info they required so I decided to mail checks which took two weeks for them to receive and when I tried to pay through my Credit Union Bill Pay which I do for all my cards, that created a problem because that took weeks to go through so needless to say, I'm through with Zales and Comenity.

I paid the amount off in full before the date given and then received a bill for $169.16 which was a membership fee of 110.00 and 59.16 in residual interest LOL which I called and made sure that the balance I was paying in full included everything and was given a pay off and a date to pay by for that payoff, which I paid, anyway I called and spoke to 3 different people today. Two considered supervisors. Another LOL. No one will remove the interest which never should have been charged in the first place. This bank must be really hard up for money so I am closing my accounts with this bank and will never do business with them again in any form. If I get a credit card from them I will not keep it. This bank has messed up my credit card account every month for the past 4 months. I will list the issues: First this joint account was switched to Comenity when BJs switched to Comenity Bank. Comenity does not have Joint accounts so they made my wife account holder and me an authorized user. Every time I call customer service to get them to fix problems with the account they refuse to speak to me. We have to wait until my wife has a day off at which time she tells them to speak to me. Our account has always been set up to auto pay at Comenity to draft the statement balance from our checking account on the due date.

In May the payment was not taken. Our checking account had over $119,000 available on that day for the $311 amount due. First call they would not talk to me second call several days later when my wife was available they said their system was having problems and they would reverse the interest charges and late fees and I made the payment manually. The next statement had new late fees and interest charges as well as no credit for the $311 payment I made manually that was also showing as a debit on my checking account. Again they would not talk to me until I could get my wife on the phone.

They again blamed the issue on their system problems and told me they would fix the problem. They also told me I did not need to make a payment until the next statement which should show the right amount minus all the fees and interest that had been erroneously charged. They also told me that that all of the auto payments had been cancelled when the system was updated and I would have to make payments manually until the auto pay was fixed and I could set it up again (this will be important for later).

I Figured out what I owed for that month and made the payment anyway even though I was told I did not have to. The next statement came all had been corrected except I was still being charged interest which I do not pay because I pay my bill in full each month. Again several calls, many disconnects they are swamped with calls from angry customers so just hanging up on everyone with a recording to go to the website. We finally get through and they tell us to pay it anyway or we will get charged interest again the following month but they will credit the interest charges back once we pay.

Here is where the fun really starts. I make a manual payment the next month for the full amount because remember the auto pay isn't working. My account gets charged twice on the same day for the full $730 amount of the payment. I now have a $460 credit balance on my credit card. Comenity Bank has taken every opportunity to screw my Wife and I over at every chance they have without the slightest hint of an apology. We pay all our bills on time and in full, we both have credit scores over 830 and 840 respectively. We will be canceling our membership at BJs as this bank is a part of their rewards program, which by the way has not issued our rewards on over $1000 in purchases. Yep it's the system again. Costco where we are also members thanks you.

There is never a manager to speak with, and anytime you think you have someone that MIGHT be able to help you, they just place you back on hold. When I purchased items from Burks outlet, they asked me if I would like a savings card, I agreed thinking it was similar to a Food Lion card, had no clue it was a credit card. She typed in my information and told me my limit was $250 then it hit me that she meant credit card, insert eye roll. I used the card and paid off within 6 months. Paid a total of $324 in March on the website. Paid the card off and closed the account. This is July. I received 2 phone calls from them in one day last week, both times I answered they hung up immediately. The next day they called again and told me I had a balance of $51. I told them it was paid off in March and to please let me speak with a supervisor.

The lady I spoke with told me there was a box below the payoff balance that I had to click on to agree to paying prorated interest for the next month to actually pay off, since I didn't click the box, I didn't pay off the balance. That makes zero since, how can they charge interest for the next month when you don't have a balance??? I refused to pay it and she hung up on me.

Today I logged into my account on the buries website to pay off and it said I did not have an open account with them, therefore I had no balance to pay on. I call Comenity bank again and tell them the buries website shows my account is closed, like I tried to tell them last week. This lady tells me that there was payoff service fee of $4 that I didn't add to the payoff so they had been charging interest on and REPORTING IT FOR NON PAYMENT TO THE CREDIT BUREAU! Not only did she give me a completely different reason for why the account was not actually paid off, I find out they have charged me $47 dollars in interest on $4! Not to mention, I was not even made aware of the situation until last week and they have been reporting to my credit since April!

She said the website shows I do not have an account because of "computer issues". ??? Then asks for my card number to pay it off which got a response of hell no! I can not even see what you guys are actually charging me for and I've now received 2 separate explanations as to why you've charged me after I've paid off my account, not to mention my online account shows I have no balance and no open cards! When I asked her to explain to me how any of that made sense, she told me she wasn't going through it again and hung up on me. Who would like to join me in a lawsuit???? I know it's only a $51 balance and I will pay it to avoid them further ruining my credit, but they can't keep doing this to people. This fraud and a scam. They are legit making up charges to keep accounts open and charging interest to get more money out of customers.

If that was the case, customers should have been notified of this planned upgrade. As of this post I have been unable to log into my online account center to view transactions for 11 days! They have a copy and paste response on Facebook about the "planned" upgrade saying to keep bearing with them. It is unfortunate that is the way this company is handling themselves. They plan to waive late charges for customers who missed payments on the 27th and 28th, but unfortunately for the other people they are out of luck. Hopefully this issue isn't reported to credit bureaus for those people. I paid my bill in full to avoid this.

We will see if everything works out with that and the right amount comes out of my account. I have heard that some people have been double charged. My card was originally serviced by Barclays and I have had it for almost 10 years. It was switched to Comenity a few months back and it has been nothing but problems ever since. What Comenity is doing to the customers is not right. That is no way to run a business. I along with all my family and friends will no longer do business with Comenity or Bread Financial. Guess we are back where we started. Same damn day and it doesn't work again. Do they do this on purpose to rack up late fees?? I am going to cancel my card. This is ridiculous.

My payment for my credit card was lost in the mail. They told me they would waive the late fee and to send a new payment which I did. But then they didn't remove the fee and added a new monthly fee on top of it two more times while I tried to get the original one removed. So they finally removed one of the late fees but demanded payment for the ones they added on top of it because they didn't do what they said originally. Poorest customer service I have ever received from a bank or credit card and will never use them again.

If you have store credit cards with Comenity, they will charge you finance charges after you have paid off the bill by the due date, and they try to justify it by saying it's calculated daily and you have to pay it. I told them that that makes no effing sense and get rid of the charge, which they did, so this is a warning that if you pay off your bill each month or so, you will still incur finance charges after your account balance is 0, and apparently they think they can get away with it.

I obtained a Tile Shop credit card, which is issued by Comenity Bank, to purchase tile. Comenity sent an email notice to pay the bill online, but it required the account number, which I didn't have yet. The paper bill came about 10 days later and I mailed in payment for the entire balance the next day. The card itself came several more days later and doesn't even have the account number on it. The next bill came and had a late charge and interest, because they got my payment late, even though I mailed it as fast as possible. There was no way to pay it online because I didn't (and still don't) have the account number.

I called and all they would do was wave $20 of the $29 late fee and $0 of the interest. They also wanted another $9 if I paid them on the phone! In addition, if I mailed the balance due, they would still charge 40 cents a day there way a balance, such that when they got the full payment, I'd still owe for the interest that accrued since I mailed it. In my opinion, Comenity is deceitful and dishonest. This is a typical way of getting you stuck in a loop where you may more and more interest for nothing. Lesson learned. Will keep distance from them.

Never, never use Comenity Capital Bank!!! You will be stricken hard by an outrageous finance charge at the last minute. I bought my wife a one-carat diamond ring to commemorate our 30th wedding anniversary in November 2020, using Blue Nile Credit Card issued by Comenity Capital Bank. It took me 30 years to buy her a diamond ring, and it needed another 12 months to pay it off. However, due to personal circumstances, I could not pay the balance in full in November 2021, the last month of the twelve-month promotion. The balance in November 2021 was $409.

Shockingly, I found that Comenity Capital Bank imposed the finance charge of $489.96 in the December statement, which included all interests accrued in the past 12 months. When I complained to Comenity Capital Bank customer services about this outrageous finance charge, one of the representatives told me that all the details on every interest accrued in the past 12 months were on the back of the monthly statement. "Summary of Account Activity" on the first page of the monthly statement had shown nothing about interest accrued for the past 11 months until November 2021. "Account Summary" of the Blue Nile Credit Card website stated nothing about interest accrued for the past 11 months until November 2021. Ridiculously and nonsensically, they were on the third page of the four-page statement. Why? I think Comenity Capital Bank had hidden them intentionally.

Until I checked "Account Summary" of the Blue Nile Credit Card website in December, I really had no idea that interest had continued to accrue over the past 12 months! Above all, I have been receiving paperless online PDF statements. No one checks the monthly statement line by line, page by page, each month. Why does "Summary of Account Activity" on the first page of the monthly statement show nothing about details on interest accrued for the past 11 months until November 2021? Why "Account Summary" of the Blue Nile Credit Card website states nothing about interest accrued for the past 11 months until November 2021? Why did Comenity Capital Bank put details on interest accrued for the past 11 months on the third page of the four-page statement?

Comenity Capital Bank seems to have been waiting for me to make any mistake in the last month. I doubt if all of the above is Comenity Capital Bank's fair business practice to their customers. Charging interest for the past 12 months at once is unfair. I think I only have to pay interest on $409 that was my account balance in November 2021. If not, it means that customers who couldn't pay the remaining balance in full before the promotion ends have to pay an outrageous finance charge accrued for the past 12 months, whatever the remaining account balance is, even if the remaining balance is $10 or $20. It makes no sense at all. Never, never use Comenity Capital Bank!!! You will be stricken hard by an outrageous finance charge at the last minute.

We have not changed banks and you need to pay the late payment fees, I am truly sorry for your inconvenience." Lol.

Apparently after reading many other reviews this is what comenity bank does. They charge you ridiculous fees and they don't like it when you pay in full. Oh almost forgot to mention that I paid the last payment in full in November and then to my surprise saw it had been cancelled by them. After 3 months, they send me a paper bill saying I owe $39. So, I call them and I explain them what happened and they ASSURED me that they would take the $39 charge off my account and I don’t owe them anything. I opened my account today to make sure and I see $7 charge on my account.

If I had not seen that $7 charge they would have sent me another bill for $300 after 3 months. Even though I tried telling them this happened and it was their fault, they did not agree and asked me to pay. So, I authorized the rep to go ahead and make the payment for $7 and close the account. She made the payment $7.56 and when I asked her she said it is the interest on that $7. Like SERIOUSLY? I MADE HER MAKE A STATEMENT THAT I DON'T OWE THEM ANYTHING ELSE. I'm hoping that is the case. Made another purchase after a few months, continued to make minimum payment on time every month. August 2021, they tell me they're lowering my credit limit to $100 due to "previous negative experience with Comenity." I don't have any other Comenity accounts, and my credit report shows I made all my payments on time. I had recently opened up a new credit card to pay for some emergency vet bills, but my credit score was still pretty good and all of my accounts were in good standing.

I reached out to customer service and they just told me that the latest credit bureau report had something on it that the system determined was a risk and so my credit limit was lowered automatically. They said they couldn't give me any more details and I would have to contact the credit bureau to get more info, so I contact Equifax and they tell me they have no idea why Comenity would tell me to contact them because they're the ones that make decisions about credit limits, credit bureau just reports it to them.

Because of this, my credit score dropped 30 points. I've had bad credit in the past and have been working hard to increase my score and was very close to having an excellent score, and my score tanked because of this terrible company. I paid the balance off with this month's payment, but now I'm showing a $2 balance for "minimum interest." Currently looking into reporting this company for bad practice as it seems like everyone is having a terrible experience with them.

Unfortunately, the door style we chose has a finite date for availability due to being discontinued on 10/1/21, so I called Comenity Capital Bank the next day to see if there was anything that I could find out on how long the final approval would take but was told that it could take 3-4 weeks from application date. I asked if they needed anything else but was told that they had everything they needed.

After 10 days, I received a letter in the mail that they could not continue to process my application until I spoke with someone. On 9/25/21 I called and was told by another employee that they had 3 questions to ask me, that I could not confer with anyone else, look anything up or put them on hold. The very first question was regarding which year I had leased a vehicle, with 5 possible answers. I do nothing but lease vehicles, and there were 2 correct answers in the possible ones, so I picked one. The third question was in regards to my mortgage payment. I asked a clarifying question to see if they were looking for principal and interest only or the total of all with escrow. I was told that they could not clarify so I picked the answer range of the principal and interest only.

I was told that one or more of the answers was not correct and this would have to go to the "Back Office" for processing. I asked how long that would take and why, with the preapproval, the credit check they had already ran and the income verification that had been done, this was taking so long and was told that if I had been paying attention and knew what was on my credit report, I would have been able to answer the questions correctly, which made me angry. After 12 days and 5 different employees with 5 different stories, I was finally able to find out they denied me due to an answer I gave them on one of the three questions and for other things seen on my credit report.

I have a credit score in the 800's, have a house loan and two car loans as my only debt, and more than enough income to cover everything and then some. You don't get a credit score in the 800's with dings on your credit history. I have never been treated so badly, disrespected by so many different bank employees and been given so much conflicting information by an organization in my life. I will be asked to fill out a survey by IKEA when I am done with this project, and the review that I give your bank will be the worst review you have ever had. You lost out on a $20,000 credit purchase, and in this day and age, even small purchases really count towards your bottom line. You should be appalled at the disservice you did to me, the business that you just lost and the damage that you just did to your company reputation. If I could give you “0” stars I would.

I wish I could pay them off and be done with it, but I'm not in the position, plus it is infuriating the exorbitant fees they charge me every month (more than $100). It seems like there would be almost a class-action lawsuit out there somewhere? I've never filed a lawsuit in my life, but I would join in...I don't have the time or money to maneuver through this right now, and would love to hear if anyone has had success in a similar situation with Comenity.

Of course, got charged numerous late charges because I don't have the time to call in every payment and I missed a few by a day or two. THEY WILL NOT REVERSE THESE $40 CHARGES. During a pandemic, even after several phone calls for help getting into the website, AND asking for my due date to be changed (a 20 min conversation) and the due date remained the same.

My wife got a Sephora credit card that was charged a late fee, because she scheduled a payment on the due date, but because it was after 6pm ET. Then she was charged a "finance fee" for getting a late fee. And then she also got a "minimum interest" charge. When she tried paying the balance, she scheduled a payment with the "schedule tomorrow" option, this time to be on time, but their system is in a different time zone, and the "tomorrow" was actually a day after, which again let us to a late fee.

To top it off, we got on a call with the customer care to cancel the card, they said it everything was our fault and that we should pay the balance before they can close it. We selected the option to pay full amount on their portal, and selected today's date, it asked us to pick a different date. But, while this happened, the system automatically changed the amount from full to minimum. We noticed it only when the rep mentioned the amount we paid and it didn't look right. Their online system is designed in bad faith to intentionally charge you late fees and interest and the customer support will not be helpful at all, making sure to tell you that you were the one at fault. I'm surprised that these practices are legal.

I thought my "replacement card" was useful at the time because I needed to invest in new furniture, moving expenses, etc. Every 2nd of the month, I pay my credit card bill on time, but according to my most recent statement, I've been charged high interest fees. I have not used the card since November and I still have an available balance of $2,332. I have a Sephora Visa with them as well, but my biggest issue with Comenity is the level of distrust between cardholders and account specialists. They are not as transparent with the cardholders and they always refer me to the secure message center. Once my balance is transferred onto my newest credit card, I am closing my account.

They will charge interest and late fees for nothing. Even if you close the account the interest accrues, but they will not credit the interest. Example: I have excellent credit and always make my payments on time. They charged me $2.00 for a late fee which was supposedly after I paid the balance. They assessed an additional $4.00 since they did not receive the $2 check I mailed. While this is only $6, ripping off thousands of customers means they are collecting thousands of dollars.

However, last April 2021, I noticed that my statement has an interest charge on previous purchases so I spoke with customer service and none of them can explain it. I keep asking them what is the interest for and why do I have this interest when I pay my entire balance in full every month. After more than 30 minutes on the phone, no one can explain to me what purchases are those so the supervisor ended up removing those charges on my account. However, come May 2021 statement, there are interest charges again to which I again called them and ask what is it for since I keep paying my entire balance every due date. No one can explain to me.

I ended up arguing with the supervisor, paying whatever remaining balance on my account that day and closed my account entirely. This credit card company tries to scam people and put charges on their accounts which are not reasonable and are not supposed to be there. I will never open any credit card from comenity again. Btw, if paying via a representative, they also charge a ridiculous $9 fee. So I paid online instead. Never again will I open a credit card from comenity.

I think is is important to start with I never wanted Comenity Mastercard. It used to be a Wayfair Card that morphed into something else that has been nothing but awful. I mailed a check to Comenity Mastercard on April 29th, 2021 to pay off a balance. On May 19th, 2021, I noticed that the check had not cleared. Fearing it had gotten lost in the mail, due to the large amount, I placed a stop payment on the check and paid the card balance in full online. At this point the card is at a zero balance & I think I am done with Comenity Mastercard.

On May 21st, Comenity Mastercard attempted to apply the check to the account & charged me a $29 fee returned check fee on an account that was at already at a zero balance. I called the customer service line, explained that the card was already paid in full when they tried to apply the check amount, that I had already paid a $29 stop payment fee to my bank and that it is not fair to charge me a fee for a card with a zero balance.

After speaking with 3 people, two claiming to be supervisors, the consensus at Comenity is that I should have let the check I presumed was lost in the mail be paid to whomever and then request Comenity to send me a refund for any over payment if paid to them. I was also told that Comenity Mastercard must pass on charge back fees from their bank to customer (because I am sure their profit margin cannot absorb a $29 fee) even though my account was at a zero balance and I have no choice but to pay them an additional $29. This is a truly unethical practice and I would caution anyone from using this card. There are much better ones out there.

On 29 March my Credit Union called as they had received a letter form Comenity that they couldn't find the account (which was on the check) and so any issue was clarified and sent back to Comenity.

More calls in April and still they could not find the check so on 20 April I had to put a stop payment in. It looks like deliberate actions to force payment of $800+ and $20% interest. I sent my complaint to the dispute dept in Ohio on 21 Apr and on 05/17 I get a letter saying NO! to my claim. I paid the $6514 on 20 April via routing number while waiting for dispute. I will convey my assumption of deliberate crookery by Comenity to steal the $800 interest. I see a number of other similar actions by other reviewers. The bank needs to be investigated and I am going to suggest Wyndham cease and desist using them for the customers.

I have had no issues with my Ulta card, however, my with Forever 21 card, there is always conveniently "technical issues" when trying to log in every month the day before my due date to pay my balance. I don't set up auto payments because I don't carry a balance. Since I have a newborn, it's difficult to remember to try again later, so then you end up with a late fee. This has happened 3 months in a row since I've been using the card this year....

I'm paying off the late fee balance and canceling this card. Truthfully, the perks of a Forever 21 card are not worth the hassle and inconvenience at all. I highly do not recommend opening an account with them and I feel there should be some sort of investigation into these "technical issues" that conveniently occur the day before and day of people's due dates but not any other time of the month.

Never one late payment, never once went over limit!! I thought it was just a fluke the first time, but here I am 3 cards later, from different retailers, all closed. Mind you, I paid off my cards in February, my cards were used in December, we are now in April... closed. So not only did I have a hit to my credit (which I baby very much) when they lowered my limit, but then a huge hit when they closed. Please. A few weeks later I made a few other purchases nothing large so my total is about $200 all together (including first purchases). I receive the first bill and made payment. Second bill and made payment on time. About a month later after making payment I went shopping and now my bill is close to $300 and now we run into problems. I was late making the fifth month payment and I am alright with that and I eat the astronomical late fee penalty.

I asked them to close the account so that I won't incur any additional fees and do you know they denied me...kept the account open and continued to apply late fees and penalties. I was making small payments to try to kill some of the interest and you guessed it nothing happened. The account is still growing.

When COMENITY BANK finally finished with me I owed them over $1300 (USD). I refused to pay that amount. It was not FAIR OR JUST! I spoke to numerous representatives and persons in management to please close my account...Hmm they closed it by sending me over to collections. Collections dropped me down to $1100. I made two payments totaling $123 and told the guy I may not be able to make every month but I will do my best ....The PANDEMIC hits, I've been FURLOUGHED which means for me My income has been reduced by $200...Oh but it gets better .. then they sued me. Suddenly, they held my payment and didn't process it for 3 days - past the due date, so late fee attached - again, the next month I moved the payment to the 5th of the month - again, this time held for processing for 8 days so again, a late fee. I have never been a fan of Comenity Bank. They are not a good lender and they are predators. I had a store card for many years with Comenity. Always paid on time, not one late payment. In August 2020 I paid off the $1800 balance and had a $0 balance. The store charged $19 to my credit card without me knowing – for some sort of “club” in November 2020. I did not receive an email from Comenity that my statement was ready (which I have in the past when it had a balance) and had no reason to even look at that card since I literally just paid it in full. In March 2021 I get call from an unidentified phone number on my work line (late at night). No message. I google the number to see it is Comenity. I then log into all my store credit card accounts to see why they might be calling me. Well by then they had reported me as 60 days late to all 3 credit bureaus and the $19 charge became $77. I disputed this with them and was ignored.

I went to the BBB and the CFC, contacted Comenity to explain what happened and begged them to remove the negative items from my credit report since it plummeted 128 points. No lender would let a customer go 4 months without paying before contacting them. Not one. They also would not call from an anonymous number and not leave a message and consider that notifying the customer. Comenity clearly did this on purpose. They could have easily mitigated their damages and mine by simply calling and leaving a message or sending an email that my account needs attention. Only a bank who purposely wants to charge excessive fees and ruin their customer’s credit would do this. I disputed the negative items on my credit report and was denied. They say the charge is valid and to talk to the store. That was the advice I got in April 2021 for a charge made in November 2020.

Comenity has the power to help me and isn’t. There would be no reason someone would pay off a card two months earlier, then charge $19 and never pay it. It is clear that I did not know, I wasn’t alerted and by the time I was the damage that will impact me for 10 years has already happened. I paid the $77 and asked them to close my account. I guess they got the last laugh here, but I’m not done with them for sure. This could not possibly be legal and certainly is not ethical.

Apparently my initial payment did not go through because I had entered my debit card number (which I've used before) and not my account number. They said the system no longer accepts that. Why then, was my payment accepted and I received a confirmation email?

This is the only company I've ever seen that will accept an invalid credit card number (instead of rejecting on the spot) and then NOT even tell you it was rejected. Had they told me it was rejected the day of, or even the next day, I would have been able to pay the bill in full as I paid it a day before it was due. The response I got was "you should have checked your debit account and seen that it wasn't taken out". Sure, maybe, but that's not the point. They will purposely not send statements and then charge you three times what you owe in interest. They are liars, manipulators and cheats. When you have people with perfect credit, who own houses and rental properties who only have an issue with one place (Comenity) you know where the problem lies.

First, let me say, the actual retailer I order my items from is great but the company they use for Opening a credit line (Credit Card), Comenity, I absolutely despise. I opened my account in Dec. I received my Bill Dec. 28, 2020. The due date was 11 Jan. 2021. I mail the full amount to them on Jan 5, 2021. Today (Jan 25, 2025), I received a new statement, stating I owed them $ 32.13 ($ 29.00 late fee and then another $ 3.13 in interest). I immediately called them and they informed me that the check didn't post to my account until the 12th of Jan, and since it was due on the 11th, it was late (they got their money the day they posted it to my account per my bank statements).

I was then told I should have known it could take up to 14 days for them to get the payment by mail. I immediately paid the entire amount while on the call to Comenity, and stayed on the phone till I received confirmation they got the payment, they did. I immediately told them to close my account, which they said they did. I asked for the closed account confirmation number and was informed I would receive it via mail in a letter. My response was, "Oh, so I should expect to wait 14 days to get the letter." The individual on the other end informed me that I would receive my letter with 7 business days. So... If I don't receive my letter within the time frame they said, can I charge them a late fee along with interest? It is my opinion that COMENITY has some serious unethical business practices and should be closely scrutinized by a legal authority for the shady business practice.

I've had a Comenity retail credit card for many years. I've used it and paid it off throughout the years, w/o any issue. In that past 12 months, with the pandemic, I've not had a need to purchase items from the related clothing retail store. I received a message from them stating, if I don't use the card, they're going to close the account. I reached out to ask why they would threaten an account in good standing if they don't purchase something (that at this time is not needed) and their response was, "We haven't closed your account, but if you don't purchase something, we will." Closing people accounts, regardless of use, has an impact on that person's credit score. I want to make sure others are aware of this bank's behavior. I would NOT recommend a card with this bank, unless you're ok with being bullied to purchase unnecessary items.

Complete scam! I just opened this card and they are claiming my first payment was returned by my bank, completely untrue which my bank confirmed! Charged me nearly $200 in fees and reported me to 4 credit bureaus within 8 days of the payment I made without even notifying of this completely untrue problem or trying to resolve it. They have refused to try to resolve the issue. I have now reported them to the 6 agencies that regulate Comenity Capital Bank but in the meantime they have ruined my credit for absolutely no reason, lied to me repeatedly, and still have yet to even mail me a statement or resolve the issue.

Comenity is useless by every imaginable way as a credit card company. I was a Pier One store card user as it was beneficial for the purchases in store. When Pier One closed My store card closed not too much later. I ran across the opportunity to join with Comenity which serviced the Pier One account that was recently closed. My problems started when they put my account on hold for 90 day because I incorrectly left off one digit when entering my checking account to pay my bill. I did catch my own mistake prior to the due date and my payment was made and the account information was now all set for the future. Again, my account was never late.

I was charged 29.00 for my mistake because they electronically tried the transaction. I recently looked at my account and it showed no credit.... They put my account on hold for 90 day!!! Lol. I tried to call on two separate dates to speak to someone who might want to keep a customer. They denied that they were able to help me. I finally closed this account as they refused to do anything. Will never recommend this company to anyone that wants to be treated like a real customer. They don't care about their customers. They lost me charging 50-60k a year on this card. Don't ever consider Comenity Bank. Too many other companies that show way better customer support.

From the beginning, this bank made it difficult to access my account information. No card was sent home, so registering for online access was a pain. Then they stopped offering the Wayfair card, so the account could no longer be accessed from the wayfair site. Trying to talk to a customer service representative was an exercise in frustration, with huge wait times. Then to top it off, they charged me a late fee for a bill paid ON TIME, but after 6pm on the due date. I've dealt with many credit cards over my lifetime and have never had a bank that cared when it was paid. I emailed them and they said they would not remove the late fee, despite the fact it was paid only 45 minutes after the time it said on the website. Mind you, there were NO mention of times on the bill they sent to my house. I paid off my account and will never again accept a card issued by this shady bank that takes advantage of people.

I have had a Comenity card for years. I used to have a due date of the 3rd of every month but I thought my payment was due on the 5th, which is the same day another card is due. I called them and got the payment rescheduled for the 5th once I figured out what was going on. I have always paid on time and above what the minimum balance is and I've always been able to pay off my balances quickly.

Tonight when I called to make a payment, the total due was more than the month before! I listened to the recording and it said if your payment was made after 6:00 p.m., it would be credited to my account the next business day. They literally said the payment will post to my account tomorrow. So they've been charging me late fees all these months and I had no idea! I don't read my statements because I know how much I've charged, when it's due and what is due.

In November they charged me $29 even though I paid on the 5th. In December they charged me $35 even though I paid on the 5th. This is not right. Comenity have ruined my credit when I have paid according to terms. I have always operated this way and it's never been a problem before, so I don't know why it's a problem now. I think I'm going to contact my representatives and see if I can get them to do something about this. Card companies should not be able to do this to you if you pay on the due date. I've read the reviews and everyone says their CS is awful. I them to each them tonight, but you have to call before 8:00 p.m.

They charge interest from the beginning. No matter the promotion of 10 months without interest. I called and they said it was my fault. Do not apply for this if you don't want to end up paying triple for the items you're buying.

This “bank” should be investigated. Just look at all the bad reviews. They opened a card fraudulently with my information, never checked for employment history or even address history. The cardholder then racked up over $11 K in purchases in my name. That was in 2018. I didn’t find out until late 2020 when I tried to get a legitimate credit card and was denied! Now I cannot get credit and I am the one who must prove that fraud was committed. This has been a nightmare at a time when I really need credit to survive.

I tried for 9 months to straighten out my account. They are horrible! I kept setting up auto pay with someone from Comenity walking me through it twice. They took my off auto pay and started charging me $39 a month late fee and a finance change of $17+ every month! They refused to let me hear the recordings of the previous phone calls which would verify my enrollment. I will NEVER work with Toyota or Comenity again and you should not either!

I used their BJs credit card for quite some time. Recently I got a new card and when I tried to activate it through their automatic phone system, it would not activate as my SSN did not match with its records. At any point in time, I did not request any change in SSN number. When I spoke with the Customer care, the Rep confirmed that my SSN number was different in the record. I asked her how could my SSN number get changed by itself. She said she will try to fix it on the phone but could not override it. She reached out to her superiors and then got back to me and said I need to send documents and photo copies to them through mail to confirm my SSN and identity.

I was with her on the phone for almost an hour (after waiting for long time to get connected) and at the end this was the result. They did not give any explanation why and how my SSN got changed in their system in the first place. And in the end they want me to send them all the documents to correct the mistake they have created. How can I trust them with more personnel data when they have no explanation why they could not secure my SSN in the first place? I decided to cancel my card.

I have a retail card through this company and was notified of an alert via the credit bureaus that my score significantly decreased as a resulted of this company reporting that my credit card usage increased by 97% which only occurred because this company lowered my credit amount significantly without prior notice. I would avoid this company at all costs.
