My wife's tracfone suddenly stopped working 2 days ago. Air time display shows 86 minutes and service good until Jan 16, 2010. Reps repeat same litany, in garbled English, "Your phone does not work because it is not active". I keep saying, "I know...why??" They don't know, there is nothing they can do. Tonight I spent 80 minutes speaking to a supervisor, Candy, who discovered that, at some point, minutes were transferred from my wife's phone to something called a safelink phone, whatever that is. I told Candy we have made no transfers, the phone display indicated plenty of minutes and airtime. They don't know how to answer that. Candy did say that the ticket attached to the alleged transfer had no name associated with it. Interesting.

For six years, or more, I've been a faithful Tracfone customer, simply because Tracfone took me everywhere in my town. People would look at me in amazement when my cell phone rang, and ask "whose your provider?" I would sing praises to tracfone and swear by it.
ALL GOOD THINGS... From before August 2, 2009 the old tracfone esn 03715549537 broke. The warrentee was outdated by now. I called Tracfone sales, purchased a new phone, esn 268435457211182279, that's built for my area, and paid for it with a credit card. There was no problem in the sales department, nor in the delivery of the new phone, however, programming the new phone became a whole new chapter. I spent countess hours tying up my landline in one setting with Tracfone technicians trying to transfer the old number (719) 371-0106 and accumulated service date to the new phone. No signal. It couldn't be done. They sent me another new phone. esn 268435457609472013 More hours with them. No signal. Couldn't be done. New cellphone sent. esn268435457205031639. More hours. Phone number and service date 04-05-2022 eventually transferred. No signal. The technician thinks it's not the phone after all, but cannot fix the coverage even though this is "a strong coverage area." Days and hours later, no more could be done, and I had to live with lousy reception whether I liked it or not.. I complained to the Better Business Bureau. Somebody by the name of Fred Pollack answered the complaint and told the BBB There was a call placed to my phone and that I answered which is absolutely untrue. I never made a connection from anyone at Tracfone. Trying to adapt to my new Tracfone system, which included failed messages, dropped calls and not being able to make or recieve calls, I recently I made a purchase for 90 (not including the double minutes) of airtime online on 09-26-09. The minutes would not transfer. Once again I called tracfone. Once again more hours. I went to another town. Called Tracfone. Four more hours. No time was added. The technician added 500 minutes to the account for my inconvenience, but it wouldn't be added until I get a new phone. On 09-27-09 called Tracfone again. The technician tried to "fix" the phone again, but instead, deactivated the phone, and said I need another new phone. The new (180) minutes were dropped 09-28-09. We (The technician and I) found the number (719) 371-0106 has been suspended, and is an un-available number for programming and there are no other numbers available, and voicemail will still be in-accessable. In attempt to restore the number the tech removed 183 minutes, and service date. They were really sorry that I've paid the money and nothing delivered, but everything will be restored when the new phone comes; However, my situation dictates that I have at least voicemail accessibility now, and it should be no extra effort for Tracfone to carry through with that, given the advertising. Frustrated. No voice mail, the technicians are hanging up on me, and no way for me to be contacted for business, but Tracfone is quick to enjoying the money I paid. on 09-30-09 I recieved the new phone # 011 803 003 593 039 I called Tracfone at 7:am the tech programmed it, and said to wait an hour. An hour came and went. Nothing. I called back. Same response. I call back a third time. The technician gave me the 500 minutes, but refuses to give mee the 180 minutes that I purchased because there was already 500 minutes and I didn't need anymore. Wait another hour. Called back, I now need another new phone, but I also have 3-5 days to make sure my programming is in place. Incidentally The Cell phone number they programmed manually in my unit is (719) 557-0791 a long distance number. They couldn't keep the number I had for six years. Today, after six years plus, I'm without service, voice mail, I'm not being heard, and I don't believe everything is being done to make that happen, rather I'm being bounced from technician to technician waiting four hours here or 48 hours there. One technician told me the corporate would call, but somehow, given the circumstances, I doubt that will happen. They continue to advertise simple coverage in my area. I own a service business and cannot be without a cell phone, which why I made the purchase in the first place. I've lost business, and have had to take extra measures to set up my landline to accept voicemail. I've put in many hours tying up my landline on the phone with technicians. My time is very valuable. The following are some of the interaction numbers. But I doesn't look like Tracfone will allow me access . 1012986968 replacement phone 53426516 not found 53483683 not found 1013217623 sorry we cannot process your transaction 1015632257sorry we cannot process your transaction 53718330 We're sorry, we cannot process your transaction at this time. Tracfone is a bum deal. Do not fall for this pig in a poke. I am not happy at all!!
I purchased a Tracfone for my wife about two weeks ago from their website. I have been on the phone with support three times since then. ** First I purchased airtime online. The website let me purchase the minutes but could not download to (or activate on my phone). ** Next my wife could not make an outbound call (received a call failed message) and I could not call her ( I received a message stating the subscriber did not want incoming calls). After some time on the phone and being transferred they told me to wait four hours. The service never worked (inbound or outbound) **Finally a few days later I called back when I had time and after a few transfers. I asked for a refund. They told me they would refund the phone (as I was within 30 days of purchase)but not the minutes, even though I can never use these minutes due to their crappy service not working. They suggested I dispute the charge with my bank. They also informed me that to get the refund I will have to pay for the shipping return of the phone and equipment.

Customer reps don't speak good English and you have to repeat things over and over and over ... they still get it wrong. Worst company I have ever dealt with. Ever.

August 27, 2009, I purchased air time at a total cost of $32.24 with my credit card. September 2, 2009. My phone stopped working and I called Trac Fone for assistance. I was told that a new SIM was in the mail and that I would be credited minutes for my inconvenience. September 9, 2009. My SIM card did not arrive and my phone does not work. I was on the telephone for 36 minutes without any resolution. Trac Fone's suggestion, "get a new telephone number." That means a loss of $32.24 because they will not transfer the minutes. I sent an e-mail to the Technical department and received the reply to call in for assistance. I called back later that day in an attempt to work with a different technician and was placed on hold for 46 minutes without a follow-up. September 10, 2009, I called in at 11:16 a.m. and finally gave up on Trac Fone at 12:20 a.m. The phone still does not work and they cannot seem to figure out why.

I lost my Sprint phone. I normally use this as my primary cell phone. When I was pregnant I picked up a tracfone to use as a backup, as sometimes my Sprint phone would have battery issues. I used up my first cycle of minutes on the tracfone and let it deactivate as I no longer needed it. As I previously stated, I lost my Sprint phone last week. No big deal, I thought. I will just purchase some minutes and use my backup Tracfone. I called customer service and I was told my SIM card had expired and would no longer work in my calling area. Also, it would take a week to get a new card. I asked Rachel the customer service agent, just basic questions regarding this, she could not answer anything. She tried everything she could to get me off the phone. She would not let me speak to her supervisor. I would not recommend Tracfone to anyone. Please buy something else.

I started out to transfer my minutes and phone number on time to a new phone I got for my birthday. I was transferring everything. They said the SIM card was deactivated and couldn't transfer and that it would need a new phone number. I had 435 minutes, and it was good till 6/12/2012. I spoke to 3 people - one lady and 2 gentlemen. They have Indian accent, so I could barely understand most of what they said. It made things a little harder to do the call. Well, it turned out I went to add more minutes, because my minutes weren't transferred. Imagine that. From that time, I was told the SIM card had to be sent and would take 7 days. So now, I wait for my SIM to activate my same number and missing 435 minutes. The first lady was speaking Chinese to another on another line while I listened to her personal phone call to someone else in Chinese.

Meanwhile, she's not speaking to me and I was on hold for 20 minutes. Well now, I call about adding minutes to a phone that needs a new SIM card and new activation. I'm very unpleased with TracFone and they honestly suck to the high heavens. I am unpleased with customer service, because I couldn't understand most of what they spoke. I made him repeat his self many times. I asked to speak to his manager. He said, "Well maybe we can ask her what we can do." He asked her! Not put her on the phone to speak to me as I requested! So needless to say in 7 days, I must call them again about my phone and new SIM card. With my missing minutes, I spent money to put on, in the first place, which I won't get back! I'm very unpleased. In my opinion, they all should be fired for the runaround I received in 5 calls from my house, because I can't use my cell. I'm very unpleased with Tracfone.com.

My phone service was cut off last week because, according to the company "rules and regulations," the country I was calling was not on their approved list. Plus, I was paying too little for the service. This is my phone and I pay for the minutes I use so what does it matter to them how much money I pay? To add further insult to injury, over 300 minutes of time purchased would not be given back to me. This was a family emergency - my father was ill and my parents needed a way to contact me and I, them. Melissa refused to turn my phone back with the same rules and regulation rigmarole. I told them I have used TracFone for many years and would do all in my power to prevent my family and friends from purchasing their product. Heaven forbid they have a family emergency!

I have spoken to at least 6 people using their customer service line. Like others here, I've been told several times that the problem would clear up in 24 hours. It never happened. Finally, I filed a complaint with the Georgia Public Service Commission, and I got my first return call from them, telling me they'd fix everything. They were supposed to call back two days later and I never heard from them again. Their people are always polite, but this is just an endless runaround. I have had no problems with my TracFone until two weeks ago. We transferred from Branson, MO to Ft Lauderdale, FL. I called to change the area code on our phone. After being on hold for 75 minutes, the operator said (in bad English), "No one is answering the phone tonight. Please call tomorrow." So the next night, I called. Same thing. After about 65 minutes, "No one is answering the phone tonight. Please call tomorrow." Same thing the next night, and the next night.

I sent an email to their customer service dept. and got a computer response: "We are so sorry you are having problems. Please call this number to get it fixed." Well, it's the same number. I sent a rather heated email to TracFone stating everything in detail, and got the same email, "We are so sorry..." So, I sent a third email and basically wrote, "Happy Birthday to you, etc." You guessed it; I got a response saying "We are so sorry..."

So, I feel TracFone has grown too big for its own breeches, and needs to be brought back down. I am helping do so by not purchasing any more time. I plan to do some shopping at Wal-Mart and switch to a competitor. TracFone is no longer a quality business. It has joined the thousands of other businesses who are going downhill quickly. I will not only not recommend TracFone to anyone, I will be sure to tell all my friends how horrible they are.

I purchased an LG255 TracFone from Kmart back on July 28th. I called to activate that day after failing to activate online. After 90 minutes, I was told to wait 24 hours and it would activate. Twenty four hours later, I called back and get the same treatment - pulling SIM card, doing master reset and turning on and off many times. Still no luck and another 90 plus minutes wasted. Again, I was told to call back in 24 hours and they would send a new SIM card. I called back in 10 minutes and insisted they send a new SIM.

Another 60 minutes passed and they finally agreed. Two days later, the new SIM card arrives. I called customer service, and after 60 plus minutes, the phone got activated. The phone number is area code 610, not the 570 code we reside in or where the store is located. Another 60 minutes and they say sorry and hang up. When I called back, I finally get a man that seems to know what he is doing and immediately tells me I need yet another SIM card, as area code cannot be changed without the new card. I get card yesterday, called customer service last evening and finally get area code 570. One problem though - I cannot get incoming calls on this phone number. I don't know if I'm going to continue with this nonsense. They need to be shut down. How long must consumers put up with such poor service?

I tried to use my TracFone on Friday, August 14, 2009; but the screen showed that I had an unregistered SIM. I called TracFone on Saturday, August 15, to get this issue resolved. After an hour on the phone, not only did I not have this issue resolved, but the phone number I had transferred from Verizon in December 2007 has been removed and the original phone number was back.

I called back later on Saturday evening to tell them that nothing had changed, and they told me that they could not give me my phone number back because it was no longer available. They also told me that they had never transferred my Verizon number to this phone. At this time, I decided to review the calls I had sent and received on the phone and then check the call logs of the phones that were involved. Guess what, they all showed my Verizon phone number that had been transferred to my TracFone in 2007. I even found a picture that I had sent to my email address that showed my Verizon number.

Just to be complete, I called Verizon and verified that the phone number I had with them had been transferred to TracFone in 2007. This prompted me to send TracFone an email explaining my issues, hoping for a resolution. All I received was that this was being forwarded to customer service for review. Then, I checked your website to find Elston's email address. I sent him an email, asking for help along with a copy of the email I had sent TracFone customer care. Elston called me back within an hour and had everything resolved in just a few minutes. This man deserves a raise, a big raise. Maybe, he should be teaching the customer care group how to resolve issues?

The paragraph below was cut and pasted from your website, so others can get the help they need: "Hello, TracFone customer. My name is Elston, and I am a TracFone employee. I am here to assist anyone who is having a problem with their phones. You can contact me at 1.800.626.4883 or by email."

I am so frustrated with this company. We have had these phones for almost 3 years and decided to upgrade to new ones. My son just bought a Samsung T301G TracFone. We cannot use the web browser; it keeps telling him he isn't authorized to use it. I have spent countless hours on the phone, only to be told I needed to wait another 24 to 48 hours and that they were going to expedite my problem and someone should be calling me shortly. Well, no one called and my son still can't use the web browser. Then for the heck of it, I checked my hubby's new TracFone he got 3 weeks ago, and guess what? He can't access the browser either, but my phone is about 2 years old and I can.

I researched this problem online, and it seems none of the newer phones allows you access to the web browser. What a ripoff. We switched to T-Mobile and what a difference. In five minutes, we had a fully functional phone, when we walked out of the store. We didn't have to go online and jump through hoops just to get the darn phone to work. I will never buy another TracFone again.

My TracFone was stolen. Immediately, I called TracFone to freeze my account and I told them it was my intention to acquire a new phone to transfer my number and remaining airtime and minutes to. When the new phone arrived, after hours on the phone with them and getting nowhere, they said I needed a different SIM card to get my number back. At first, they weren't sure if it was available and there were many other issues for them to sort out. Most of which seemed to be out of their range of control and competency to deal with. But they they kept asking me to repeat all the various old and new identifying serial numbers for the phone and the SIM card, etc. It seemed that asking for the numbers over and over again was to create the illusion that they were doing something.

When the new SIM card arrived a week later, the exact same charade was repeated over a couple of days and many hours until they determined that the replacement SIM had been invalidated because it was activated to the number attached to the phone though I had clearly requested to retain my original number. A week later, they sent another SIM card and even tracking the delivery of the SIM card was a terrible ordeal. When the new SIM card arrived, I asked to speak to a supervisor as I had begun to do for some time and went through the same motions with specific instructions that if the phone couldn't be activated with the number I requested, do not activate it since I did not want to nullify the SIM card.

After over an hour on the phone, the person finally admitted in answer to a direct question that she was just repeating the same thing over and over again without hope of getting anywhere. I asked to speak to another department or someone with other expertise and she switched me to the floor manager. This person ignored my request not to activate the new SIM card on the phone unless it was to the number I requested. He said my number was no longer available since it was deactivated for so long. I pointed out that it was not attached to another account and was therefore still available, but the answer was not in the script he was reading from.

I asked how after reminding them in every one of the frequent conversations that I had with TracFone representatives, that the most important thing to me was to preserve my number for my use, I could still lose the number. He had no direct answer, just that it happened because of the length of time it had been deactivated, but did not know what the length of time was. I spent more than twenty hours on this and got nowhere. Absolutely nowhere. I don't have my phone number and I have not been offered anything remotely adequate to deal with the aggravation and time this cost me. I was cut off the first time. He gave all the info and it took over an hour's time. I waited, listening to the music playing. Then on the second time, same info. Sure, same Japanese man. He was nice to me, but the same info again. It's been 3 days and still, no activation. I dialed the code, he told me it is not yet activated. I got online and it still said not activated. I read online that said TracFone's line is out of order? Good grief, I had my old minutes added to my new one to be activated. I had trouble calling in Northern KY.

This is for my emergency and I am 72 plus years. I depend on this. I am wondering about this TracFone's business. I thought this would be the thing for me, but I'm beginning to doubt that it's not good if I am out away from home. Hey, what's the answer? How come it's taking so long activating this new phone? Had I known this, I would have kept the old phone and added just few minutes at that time or quit it completely. I was told phones and cards bought from Walmart and Target are good on blue grass, some say it’s not a good idea. Just my opinion. I sure like to get better service on here or I am through pretty soon. I got 2 phones, no more cards bought if this is the way with it. Sorry, but I'm disgusted.

We have had a TracFone for 2 years, and I used to recommend it to people, who only needed phones for traveling and emergencies. Not anymore. Recently, our phone went to roaming and wouldn't let us make calls with 1331 minutes and a new 1-year fee. When we called the company, they said we needed a new phone because we didn't purchase a 3-year warranty. What! So, we purchased a new phone the next day, and while transferring minutes, they claimed we only had 1050 left. What!

Okay now, we got a supervisor on the line; and he was trying to tell me that was all we had. I have no proof. Then, I got angry but politely said how we could have lost 280 minutes, and I told him to listen to their recording because this is theft on their part. After being on hold several times, guess what? He said it was a communication problem and gave us our minutes back. But now, when I made a local call for 10 seconds to see if the phone worked, 2 minutes were gone. What! I am using up my minutes and will tell everyone how bad TracFone is. Paul Harvey, you should stop recommending this phone!

I ordered a "refurbished" Motorola 376 from their website. Half of the features did not work. I could not send pictures or text messages to my friends. There was no protective covering on the inside and there were scratches on the back of the phone! I could not download ringtones either. I called them a week after trying to get the phone to work. I got people with very strong foreign accents (three, after being transferred twice). They kept telling me to go to the "code entry mode" and add a series of letter and numbers for 50 minutes! Then, I was told to wait for 72 hours and it should be working. It didn't. I asked for a refund. They insisted I send it back via FedEx (another $6.00).

I bought a new w376 and asked to have that number transferred to my new phone. The new phone has a screwed up camera (dark greenish tints to all settings!). I called a month later, 7/17, and asked about my refund. They told me the phone was free because I got double minutes. They had not been transferred to the new phone as they had insisted. I asked for a supervisor. He managed to give me the 102 minutes from the previous phone. He didn't give me the full amount of days that were left on the phone. He didn't give me the 30 days that the phone sat in their Indiana returns center. Maybe they need to hire people who speak English to communicate with US-speaking customers.

I was told to wait 1 hour for the phone to activate. It never happened, and I called back again. Once again, it's 35/40 minutes of putting in 16-digit number after 16-digit number trying to activate. Then I was told that my phone could not be activated and that I needed to buy a new phone! Why didn't they know that from the beginning! Then another 30 minutes on the phone putting codes in to get my refund. OMG!

After being told the same thing again, I asked to speak to a supervisor, and I was then told that all of the representatives were busy, and that it was not possible. Frustrated, I hung up, and contacted TracFone via email. Guess what? They said the same thing: "All of your minutes have been detected correctly, and please call customer service." Ha! My annual renewal with TracFone was due by July 25, 2009. On the 24th, I sent an e-mail complaining about a software glitch with the phone. I can only turn the phone on while it is connected to the battery charger plugged into an electrical outlet. Once it is turned on, the battery lasts for several days, so the problem is not the battery. Once I turn the phone off, it will never turn on again until it's plugged in. I discovered this after a plane flight when I had to turn the phone off for the flight. I couldn't turn it on again. In my e-mail, I told them I could go back to Verizon, they could fix my phone, or I could file a complaint. I wanted a response prior to my renewal date. No one ever got back to me. Today, I called and spoke with Adriana at TracFone’s customer service center (in India) after I renewed for 30 days just so I could have service while the problem was being resolved.

She was difficult to understand and refused to transfer me to someone who spoke better English or a supervisor. When I asked her for a number to someone higher up the ladder, she just gave me the same service number I had just called. I spent over 35 minutes explaining the issue and she kept insisting my phone or the battery was defective. I offered to buy a new battery, but I wanted reimbursement when it didn't solve the problem. She said the phone was out of warranty, so they would do nothing. I kept telling her that the battery could not be bad because I could talk for hours before the battery wore down. I wanted the phone reprogrammed or replaced. I asked for a case number to refer to this when I called again since she wasn't helping me, but she didn't give me that either.

Finally, I was given an interaction number (524-67470), which I think was a phony number because I tried to look it up under my ticket number on the website but the number was refused. I think she just gave me a number to shut me up. Call centers in India are one of the worst trends there have been in America. No one seems to get service from them. As a business owner, I hear my customers complain about them all the time. I spent good money for this phone and feel it is their responsibility to fix the problem I'm having with it.

They do not and suggested that we buy batteries at Radio Shack or better yet, since our old batteries would not hold a charge, that we should buy new phone, which we did. They would then transfer all our minutes to the new phones and then inform us that we needed to buy more minute cards to get the new phone activated, which again we did. Then they tell us that by activating the new phone, that we would lose our $99 double minute cards that we had for life. They then suggested that we keep our old phones and just replace the new batteries out of the new phones, and that they would activate our old phones. My husband finally got his old phone activated and lost his double minutes anyway.

Then they tried to activate my phone and said that it was obsolete, that they would send me a new phone overnight with all my minutes and double min. card already installed. We agreed to this. This was on the 9th of July. Then the phone did not appear as promised and we called on the 11th of July. They informed us that our address was not correct (where we have lived for nine years), that UPS nor FedEx could not find us. Then we called again on July 12, and they would send out another phone to our address that they found, and that was over nine days ago. We called again today, July 24th, 2009, and spoke to another supervisor and she said the phone had not been sent out yet, and that she would send out one today again.

I first transferred to TracFone in Jan. 2007, when AT&T went away. They said they could port my number, fine. In fact, the number never was truly ported until July 17, 2009! During the intervening years, people could call me using my supposedly ported number, but that number did not appear on my phone. I always had to call up tech support to get purchased time added and explain ad nauseam that no, the number that appeared on my phone was not my "real" number. Also, I could not get voice mail set up, but I had decided I could live without that feature.

Suddenly, on May 29 of this year, a "SIM card registration failed" message appeared and the phone stopped working. I spent 2 hours talking to various tech support people, finally to a supervisor who was able to give me codes to enter to get my phone working again. On June 18, same "SIM card" message appeared. I spent much time on phone with tech support who said they'd have to send me a new SIM card. The card arrived on June 29 and, when I set it up, the original phone number still appeared on the phone, even though letter included with card stated my port request had been completed. I called up tech support and was told they'd have to send me yet another SIM card! Then someone from the Portability Department called and told me they could not, in fact, port my number since it was inactive.

At that point I lost it, stating that I had been using that "inactive" number for almost 2 1/2 years with my TracFone, reiterated my many calls and issues. I stated if they couldn't port my number, I just wanted a refund and to get away from "you people”, and slammed down the phone. About 1/2 hour later, the guy called back and he said it turns out that in fact, I could get my number ported after all. And they were sending me yet another SIM card which would arrive in 24-48 hours. I had to laugh at that and told him it usually took 10 days (this one took 8). But, sure enough, when the card arrived and I went through all the coding, for the first time my correct number appears on the phone. Now I'm in the process of trying to get them to extend the expiration date of my minutes, since my phone wasn't working at all for 22 days, and 7 more days with only the incorrect number.

If this can ever get settled down, the service is costing me less than $5 per month, but I guess I need to be including many gray hairs and heartburn in the cost! TracFone is not for the faint of heart! I guess I'm not interested in any action, unless somebody gets a class action going.

If she made a call, she could not hear it ring, nor could she hear the person answer on the other line. We called to have the problem fixed and we were given a reset code. The code failed and TracFone actually sent us a refurbished version of the same phone. We encountered the same problem with the replacement phone. Once again, we called TracFone to fix the problem. We were given the same reset code that had not worked last time. We tried to reset it 3 times.

When we requested a different model of equal value, we were told that it could not be done. We spent around a total of 4 hours speaking to them to try to resolve the problem. The customer service reps continually failed to understand the problem and told us bogus answers such as we had no service where we were. I have always considered 5 bars to be strong service. In 2006, I purchased a TracFone from Target, to be used with family and family friends visiting me or as an alternate, prepaid (pay-as-you-go) number. The phone hadn't been used and was deactivated. In July 2009, I wished to reactivate the phone for use with family friends visiting us. On July 7th, 2009, I went to the online TracFone store and followed their instructions to purchase air time and reactivate the phone. However, re-activation failed. I called their 800 number (800-867-7183) and was told that reactivation failed because my Sim card had expired and that I needed a new Sim card. The customer care technician created a case number.

I received the new Sim card in the mail on July 14th, 2009. I then called the TracFone 800 number again (customer/tech support), at approximately 8 p.m. ET. I gave them the phone serial number and the new Sim card number, and was told that their computer system would need about an hour to process the activation codes. At that time (1 hr later), I would see a new "service due date" and the phone would be ready to use following a test call which would specifically be comprised of my 4-digit zip code followed by a 10-digit phone number (the number I'd be calling). However, no automatic update happened and when I tried to call later, I discovered the customer support center was closed for the day.

On July 15th, I called again. At that time, it was 11:30 and I called from work. I was connected to tech support where I went through a series of inputting 10 numerical codes of approximately 15-20 digits per code to the phone. After that process, I could see the purchased air time but there was no service and when I tried to make a test call, it failed. Following that, we went through a second series of code-input which again resulted in failure to activate the phone. At that point, I had been on the phone with TracFone customer care for 37 minutes. The technician told me the problem was that the phone still showed the original phone number, whereas in their system, they showed a new number.

I then requested to know what more was necessary to activate the phone, but all the customer care technician could tell me was to stay on the phone and continue inputting codes to try and activate the phone, or to call later, or to create a new case number and wait for a few days before I call again. I explained that I had been on the phone for about 40 minutes during work time and that I needed to know exactly what more to do on my end and how much more time this would take. The customer care technician couldn't tell me that information, at which point, I asked for a refund of my airtime minutes which I had paid for but had not been able to use. The customer care technician transferred me to sales.

The sales person (Eder, no more information or identifying number, and no further record of conversation could be provided by TracFone) told me that no refund is possible because that is not the company policy. He then proceeded to tell me to try a new set of numbers. I tried that, but the phone still didn't work. I went through the process a second time, and the phone still didn't work. At this point, I demanded again a refund and to speak with a supervisor, only to be told that refund is not the company policy and that we should enter one more code. The conversation went for a few minutes along these lines:

(me) How many more codes do I want to put? How much more time do I need to spend? I am calling from work and I cannot be wasting work time like this
(Eder) Sir, I am trying to help you with this process
(me) But this is unhelpful. I have been on the phone for nearly an hour, inputting codes on the phone. So please explain to me how much effort is necessary to activate the Sim card. Do we need 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 1 hour, 5 hours? How many more codes?

(Eder) Sir, I am trying to help you if you want to continue this process.

I did try one more code at which time the phone still didn't work. Again, the sales/support person, Eder, could not provide me with an end to when the whole process of activation might end and as to how many more codes were necessary. By that time, I was on the phone for a little over one hour, and again I said that I couldn't continue with this process in this manner and that I wanted a refund for my purchase of air time. I was again told that no refund was possible and I had the choice to continue with the process (of entering 15-20 digit numerical codes) in order to activate the phone. I then declined and ended the conversation.

After 3 weeks, I received a call from TracFone that they had closed my case. Meanwhile, the existing Sprint number had been cancelled. We were advised by Sprint that TracFone cannot port numbers from an account in a business name. After hearing this, I activated the phone with a new number. This happened on April 24. I purchased 800 minutes and had been using the phone until July 2, when we discovered the phone had been deactivated.

The first individual I spoke to advised that the SIM card was not compatible with our zip code. When I supposedly spoke to a supervisor, I was advised that the number had been deactivated in April and they could not tell me how or why. They sent me a new SIM card which took a full week. This is where the fun began. I spoke to 13 different people and was advised TracFone did nothing wrong and it was my problem. They advised that my compensation for all the hassles was them giving me back the minutes we still had. I was lucky they did this. This took over 1 1/2 hours to only get a new number. Meanwhile, my husband, being a small business owner, has to get new business cards again. After we have used the minutes we purchased, we will go back to AT&T.

I'm pretty sure a supervisor gave me double for life because I canceled 2 online purchases because the bonus changed at the bottom of form. Money was taken out of my account and no minutes put on phone either, so I was given double min. for life for taking money out of the acct. and the hassle I went through. I told the gentleman I'd buy one double for life today if I got the double min, even though I was supposed to get them anyway. He would not give me the double min. even though I just added them 2 min. before I tried to call before adding them, because I saw a promotional code on the computer. I also wanted to ask about the new phone. I was happy; now, not so happy.

Rep #3, finally after a zillion codes later, activated it to find it doesn't even work in the area we live in. Go figure! TracFone has seen the last of me and we went to a landline. Poor, poor, poor. I found this out today - my second day of having this phone, before I could give the new number to anyone. Fortunately, I am in a position to keep the phone off most of the time. It would be a real issue if I had to keep it on and my minutes were consumed by callers trying to sell me things! I am planning to put the number on the do-not call list, but had not thought to do this, as the number had not been given out.

I bought a TracFone (Pay As You Go) approximately 5 years ago to use when we travel in the United States (mainly traveling to Florida). The cell phone still has 672 minutes (units) left on it. In June '09, we received a call from the Florida police telling us that someone had vandalized our home in Zephyrhills, Florida. Thus, on June 22nd, we left our home in Canada to travel to Florida to assess the damages. When we got to the state of Maine, I tried to use my cell phone, but it would not work. I called TracFone and was told that my phone had been deactivated and since it was a Sunday, I would have to call back the day after to find out why. I called the day after at least 3 times, waited on the line while they were checking with another department to find out why my cell was de-activated. They finally told me that I had used my phone in Canada the year before (July ‘08) and they had deactivated it then. They gave me a warning as not do this anymore; if so, they would have to deactivate again.

First of all, I might have tried to use my phone in Canada, but the phone would only roam as we have no tower adapted to their cell. Secondly, I was never warned that if I dare use the phone in Canada, they would deactivate it forever. If I would have been advised of such, I would certainly not have used it. Anyways, the last time I used the phone this year was probably around the end of April when we were traveling back home. I spoke to two different supervisors who also told me that they could not re-activate the phone and could not transfer those minutes to a new phone (even if I would have bought a new TracFone). I then sent a 3-page registered letter to the head office (the address above is the one they gave me) to the attention of the manager in charge of service to the clientele. Today, June 30, 2009, someone called Lucette, apparently in charge, phoned me and again refused to re-activate my phone or transfer my minutes to a new phone or even to pay me back for the minutes (units), which, as I told her, I feel were stolen from me. I paid a lot of money for those and certainly feel that they should be given back.

I had bought a TracFone in 2007 for my son to use on a trip. Well, it never was able to work on his trip, so although it had minutes on it, it sat idle. Later in 2007, I let my stepson use the phone, so we had to get a new minutes card for it. When we turned it on and added the minutes, there was a large number of minutes on it. I thought perhaps it was a promotion of some sort. The phone worked fine, so he used it up until he moved, then it sat idle again for about six months. I recently decided to let my other son use the phone and when we charged it, it still had the minutes on it. I went ahead and added another air time card to it to give him a larger timeframe to use the phone. Everything went fine for several weeks, and then the phone stopped working, even though it had a month of time left on it and over 6000 minutes. I finally got a chance to call in and see how we could get the phone working and add more air time to it, only to be told that I would need to get another phone. I was, however, assured that the minutes (still over 6000) would transfer over to the new phone. I went out and bought a new phone and an air time card to activate it within a day or so. Once it was activated, I called the tech folks only to be repeatedly put on hold.

Finally, I was assured the minutes would be transferred, but I was told I would have to call back as the office that handled that could not be reached. I called back the next day, told them what I needed to, and again, was repeatedly put on hold. Again, finally, I was told that the office that could help me could not be reached and I should call back in the morning as they only worked between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. I called back the next day, a Saturday, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. only to be again repeatedly put on hold. Finally, I was told that the office I needed was not open on weekends. Today is Monday. I called in and went through the whole story again, stressing that this was getting ridiculous. Five calls to resolve one problem (which I was assured was a simple matter) is way too many. After again repeatedly being put on hold, I was told that the old phone does not have over 6000 minutes and that there must be a "problem" with the phone. “No, sorry for the inconvenience,” or "Oops, we screwed up," nothing like that. Just the rather robotic repetition of telling me that there are no minutes to be transferred and there must be a problem with the phone. Well, if there is a problem with the phone, then they should replace the phone, not have me go out and buy a new one.

I previously owned a TracFone and Net10 Phone and never experienced any problems. However, the purchase, porting, and activation of my Motorola W376 TracFone has been the worst customer service experience that I've ever had in my life.
I began the activation process on the internet in early February 2009 by requesting that my old Boost Mobile cell phone number be ported to my new cell phone. Initially I provided only my old number as I didn't have an account number. I was contacted by TracFone and they requested that I contact Boost Mobile and obtain my account number. I obtained my account number and advised TracFone customer service. I then receive another phone call indicating that I needed to provide a Pin Number. So I provide that information as well. I then receive repeated phone calls claiming that the information I provided was not correct. Eventually, a three way phone call between TracFone, Boost Mobile, and myself was arranged. Boost Mobile confirmed that the information that I provided was correct. So again I wait, assuming that the problem was resolved. Then in late February I receive a letter indicating that the porting of my number was "delayed due to incomplete or inaccurate information" and was advised to contact another number for assistance. At this number I was advised that my SIM card wouldn't port, and that I would be sent another SIM card through the mail. In early March I thought finally my problems would be over. I received and installed the SIM card and called back as requested. The phone was finally activated and I indicated that I would add additional minutes online. After all the delays, I had forgotten that my phone came with double minutes for life and ordered the 800 minutes with double minutes for life at the price of $139.99. To my surprise the minutes were not added to the phone and I again had to call customer service. The lady on the phone was nice enough to inform me that I made a mistake in my order, but to my surprise was unwilling to correct it. I complained but it was obvious that I was getting nowhere. The minutes I ordered were added to the phone. I decided I would call back and would insist that the second double minutes for life be removed. I figured this would result in a $40.00 refund to my credit card as 400 minutes (doubled to 800 minutes) costs $99.99. I called back and again got nowhere with customer service. I asked to speak to a supervisor who was apologetic but indicated that there was nothing she could do. She indicated, however, that she would refer me to a higher level and that someone would get back to me. Well I waited over a week for a response and received none, so instead of calling again and getting the run around, I decided to send an e-mail. By e-mail I was provided a number to call for credit card adjustments. I thought I was finally making progress, however when I called I was again advised that nothing could be done. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was informed pretty bluntly that it was my mistake and there was nothing they could do about it.

I was on the phone for 40 min. with Monica and her supervisor, neither of whom I could hardly even understand their English. They said I could only buy 400 min., another yr. of service, Double Min. for Life Card and it would be doubled to 800 min. I do not need another year of service; I already have until 2010. I do not need another Double Min. for Life Card; I already have one and 400 min. is not enough minutes. I want to buy 800 min. & have it doubled to 1600 min. Every time I buy min., it is a hassle to ever get the min. on to my phone and I do not want to go through this hassle every few months.

They are falsely advertising Double Min. For Life, but when you try to get these so-called double min., you can only buy a small amount of minutes and with all kinds of restrictions that they want to place on them.

I still do not have any more minutes, because in order to get them, they want me to buy all kinds of things I don't need & already have. I hope everyone who has bought these so-called Double Minutes for Life Cards complain when they cannot get their minutes and that TracFone is held responsible for false advertising. If a customer wants to buy 800 minutes & have purchased the Double Min. For Life Card, they should be made to deliver what was promised when these cards were bought.

After emailing several times, I called. I was on the phone for 40 minutes and finally talked to a supervisor. He told me that I did have double minutes for the life of the phone; however, the plan was too costly so it had expired. I have a copy of the ad and the receipt for my purchase. No one has been interested in seeing this documentation. The same plan is advertised online today for $139.99. I would like to have my double minutes for life of the phone honored and have any laws TracFone is breaking enforced. There does not seem to be any penalty to TracFone. When I called the company, it took me forever to get through and once I did, I was put on hold 13 times while tests were done on my phone. No one spoke English. I was told the phone wasn't properly working and had been shut off by them. I was also told that I couldn't have this number transferred to a new phone and I would lose the 200 plus minutes I had on this phone. I was given the runaround for over 55 minutes and no satisfaction. This was a phone number I had been using on resumes for over 3 years. O.K. I bought a Tracfone a w376g, first off they make it to where you can only buy ringtones from them. The ringtones cost 24 minutes from your phone. When a 60 min card cost 20$ and a 120min card cost 30$ it places the ringtone at about 5-8$. The full song cost only a 1$ from Itunes or Rhapsody or any other MP3 site. The ringtones are only 10-20 seconds, not even a full song.
Second they have a web browser, but you can only access there desired website. Microsoft already went to court over actions like this buy trying to corner the market on tech and lost. Now Tracphone is doing the same thing. When Tracfone went to court they were trying to stop the consumer from using their phones with other cellphone companies, when they lost they added a subsidy code in the phone, which locks the phone from being used, then refusing to give the code out. Something needs to be done.

My daughter purchased a tracfone to use to text message her friends. She purchased a model that was advertised as a model that would work in my area. Sadly, the phone was not equipped with the proper technology to work with the cell tower in our town. To date we have spent at least 10-12 hours on the phone with tech support...possibly even more hours. I was told several times that I needed a replacement phone and that I would be contacted withing 24-48 hours to confirm shipping information and be provided with a ticket number. After not receiving the confirmation call I was forced to call back, only to be told that I needed to go through the troubleshooting process again. This happened several times! When I finally was able to get an agent to provide me with a ticket number for a replacement phone, they sent me the EXACT SAME MODEL PHONE that does not have the proper technology for my area! I'm beyond frustrated with this phone. The sad part is this: the phone was purchased by my 14 year old daughter with her own money and this company has taken her money and not delivered the service that she paid for.

Background info: I purchased a Tracfone Motorola C261 bundled with 12 months of service, 800 anytime anywhere minutes and double minutes for the lifetime of the phone. This was about 3 years ago. Until today, I always received double minutes when I added them. Today I did not. I called the 1-800 number and talked to a technician who was working from Guyana. The technician kept reinforcing the idea that she wanted me to be happy. I was put on hold many times while she contacted a supervisor. I was told that there was not anything such as a double minutes for life card; they are only good for one year. I said that I had been receiving double minutes since I had bought the phone. After again contacting the supervisor she said that it was sort of a mistake and that they had granted me another year of service even though it should have expired at the end of one year. I said that I was pretty sure I have been getting double minutes for more than 2 years. Again she had to contact the supervisor. This time I was told that it probably had to do with the day the double minutes card was activated. All the supervisors she contacted were adamant that there was no double minutes for life card sold by Tracfore. Of course I finally had to give up and told her I would try to locate the card I used (I think I may have saved it) and call back so I could verify that the card had a double minutes for life feature. Then I did an internet search and found that many others are now having the same problem I am having. This is indeed too bad. I would not be surprised if Tracfone suddenly goes bankrupt. I really think they must be in big financial trouble to risk so many irate service users! A friend advises me to switch to a more reliable service. This may be the only way out of this smelly mess.

I wanted to use the Tracfone in Iowa zip code 50436 when I went on Vacation in May but would be using it in Oregon (zip code 97403) where I live and the first customer service lady I spoke with in South Africa said that was no problem. I had to enter about 15 codes numbers 6 different entries with her and I couldn't understand her so it was difficult and then she said it was done but after I hung up, I tried to call and couldn't so I called back and went through the automated activation voice response until I could get it through to them I wanted to speak to a real customer service person. This happened 4 times with 4 different South African customer service agents and entering a gazillion codes into this phone. I had asked to purchase a Double Minute card with the third agent and she transferred me to another area and I told her that this also needed to be used in two different areas of the United States and she said it could. After that, still no coverage and I couldn't call out. The fourth customer service agent in South Africa said that I would get coverage in Iowa but none in Oregon. I asked her if I needed to purchase 49 different phones, one for each state, with tracfone and she didn't answer. Then I tried to contact a number of customer service in the United States that the last South African agent had given me but it was closed on Sundays so I emailed Tracfone with my complaint. My response was that I had 30 days to return the 29.99 phone if I was not pleased with it but there would be a restocking fee and all mailing costs would be my responsibility. I was also told that there would be no refund on the double minute card ($49.99) or the 60 minute card (29.99) that now I can't use. Basically, I have thrown away $100 and now have nothing as it is all junk. I have had a prepaid tracfone since around 2001. About three and a half years back, I purchased a double minutes card. The terms were crystal clear. One time purchase, entitles me to get double airtime minutes every time I purchase and add an airtime card to my phone, FOR THE LIFE OF THE PHONE. There was no room for missunderstanding about that from the several phone conversations I had with customer service back then and what was written on the back of the card. THERE WAS NEVER ANY MENTION ANYWYERE ABOUT AN EXPRIATION DATE. I was specifically told that this feature lasts the life of the phone. Double minutes brings airtime minutes down to roughly ten cents per minute, depending on how large an airtime card is purchased. ten cent minutes are no big giveaway in today's market, but still alot cheaper than paying twenty cents per minute. Nobody I know pays anywhere near that anymore, right?
Double minutes was working fine for three and a half years up unitl my last airtime purchase yesterday of 450 minutes at $79.95 which was supposed to credit my phone with 900 minutes. But I was only creditid 450 minutes. Yesterday, I spent about 90 minutes on the phone with tracfone. perhaps an hour of that was on hold. and spoke to four different people. Got a range of contradictory explainations, even getting a change of story from the same person. None of which made sense or hold water. Was eventually told that I would need to purchase ANOTHER double minutes card! Called back today. Another 40 minutes on the phone. Was again told to buy another double minutes card. None of the commitment from my original double minutes card purchase honored. Eventually was told that I had purchased the double minutes card on July 19 2007. They confirmed that my phone had once been replaced at their option, not mine, to work better with changing cellphone grid. And that was why there was a confusion and my double minutes were revoked in their error. They confirmed that my purchase date for the double minutes card indicates that I did, in fact purchase a PERMENANT double minutes upgrade. And yet, as of this second extended time on the phone, there is still no commitment from tracfone to resolve my double minutes. In spite of the fact that my story's validity was finally verified by them. Instead, they now want me to wait for a corporat office in miami to get back to me. That's what I was told yesterday but did not get a call back. Of course, if they don't give me back my double minutes, then as a matter of principal, I can not keep service with tracfone.

I had an EMERGENCY I tried to use the phone and it said the SIMS number was unregistered but the minutes were being used and not by me. I called again and they told me that the SIMS card would have to be shipped out to me within 3-5 days. I immediately called Tracfone, and spoke with one of thier representatives. I was asked to program in a number of codes which, I was informed, would take about 1 hour to complete. The next day, 2/12/09 I again phoned them, after discovering on my Tracfone that my minutes had disappeared, and my phone number had been changed. During the 1 1/2 hours on the line with them--during which there were numerous times when the rep would say for example: let me check this status with my supervisor, or I'm calling this department, or the daaprtment is still busy, would you mind holding another three minutes, and the like--bottom line is Tracfone informed me that I had transferred the minutes to another phone on January the 5th , 2009, and there was no phone service nor minutes left on my current phone, and they had the computer records to prove this. They also stated my phone service terminated then, and very uch insinuated calling me a liar, and said I have control of my phones, and they only explanation they saw was that I infact transferred minutes. They could not answer why I made and received calls on my phone after the stated end date, when my phone log register listed a number of calls I made and received after their given service date of Jan 5, 2009. I have never been frustrated, and I have used trac fone for several years. On or about that time, over Christmas holiday, I purchased two noew tracfones for my children, each with their own minutes cards. Each phone was attempted by me to be activated via internet, but I did not transfer any minutes of any kind. By the way, the two new phones required Tracfone to re-issue new SIM cards; it took a time, but with about 1 1/2 weeks the new phones were up and going. I suspect, in trying to get these new phones going, between the computer attempts, and the call center--I feel there was an error on their part, which accidentally removed my minutes. Bottom line is within 24hrs, my phone register went from a balance of 359.6 min to zero, and a differenct phone number. I cannot say exactly when I was no longer able to recieve and make calls, but the latest entry on my call log on the phone was dated 2/4/09. And now I have a non-working phone, and feel out nearly 360 minutes, and totally without recourse.

I called Tracfone today after receiving 50+ and they were absolutely non responsive other than to say IF the messages were coming from Tracfone all they could do would be to stop sending text message and it would take 10 days after the order was placed. They advised me not to open the text messages. She indicated it could be another carrier sending these. The number isn't even a legit phone number so I suspect Tracfone is spamming to deduct minutes after reading the postings from other Tracfone users.

Friday Feb 6, 2009 My son purchase 120 minutes at Dollar General store for $32.69, I have two phone Nokia and a Motorola the Nokia is my phone and the Motorola is my sons, both in my name. Friday my son tried to add minutes, and got the message phone was deactivated and had 00 minutes, and stated invalid pin number, when you go into messages, it states minutes for another phone, that was on the Nokia. it was good he received that message because he was to put the minutes in the Motorola. When you try to put them on the Motorola it states for another phone. I call you customer service line and spoke to a repsentative on Friday told me he had to add the minutes to my phone Nokia and then trans them to the Motorola and that they would double. I was on the phone for 2 1/2 hours. when I hung up on your rep. I had no service and no minutes on the Nokia and No minutes on the Motorola (the phone that the minutes were suppose to be on - my sons, the one that the rep on Friday adv me when he was finished they would be on.)
Then sent e-mail and got an auto respond that would get a call back in a few minutes, never got. Today (Sunday Feb 8, 2009) I called at 4:58 and hold time was 10 minutes, I spoke to two reps (women) and got nothing, finally I got a supposely head supervisor Marcella Phillios (that's the spelling she gave me). I explain to her what all happened, I advised her that I want the minutes on the Motorola, because the son is 30 miles from me and is disable. I was on the phone from 4:58 to 6:20, and the Motorola still has 0 minutes on. Marcella insist on putting the minutes on the Nokia, and she was advised 15 times in the converstaion I wanted the minutes on the Motorola. She said she had to find out information first and had me enter codes on the Nokia, then advise me that the Nokia phone has the minutes. I advise her that I was the customer and told her several times the minutes should have been on the Motorola. Asked her for her supervisor and she stated that she was the highest. I then asked her for her supervisor and she advised me that there was no one above her. I then stated to her she must be the Director or the ECO of the company. she stated no, I then asked her again for transfer to them or their names, she refused me. she than stated she could give me to another supervisor, she then put me on hold and came back and refuse to give me to another supervisor. I adv her that I was recording this conversation , want the minutes in the Motorola, she refused. I advised her that the web site states I can transfer minutes to another phone, and the rep advised me friday that is what he would do. She refused to transfer the minutes. She said she was going to hang up on me, I advise her that I did not say anything out of the ordinery to her and this was an escalated call and that she should follow protcal. She refuse to do as requested. I advise her that she was not assisting the customer and that she needs to do what was requested. I want those minutes on my Motorola phone 423-920-5190. I feel the service was very bad experience, and that the reps lied to customers. They make promises and do not keep them and will not give requested information to the customer. I had requested from Marcella the name of the CEO and the address, she also refused to give that information. I will forward all information to the BBB, Federal Communications and will put all this on line, as I was cheated out of requested and paid for service, lied to and treated like the customer does not count.

I purchased a TracFone at a Wal-Mart store on Jan. 30th. I came home and tried to activate the phone and use the purchased minutes, but I kept getting the message on the phone, Prepaid Service Disabled. So I tried to contact customer service at their 800 telephone number. The customer service recording told me they were closed. I tried calling them the next day and spent over an hour on the phone with different reps. and supervisors. After spending all this time on the phone with them, I was told it would take 24-48 hours to get the phone activated. They said they would call me back after this time period. They didn't call, I had to call them. Naturally I was given the same run around as I had on Saturday when I called. They apologized and put me on hold over and over again. They kept giving me the same instructions, codes, promises and still no phone service or minutes. When I purchased this phone from Wal-Mart they told me the more minutes you buy the better the price on the minutes. Boy oh boy what a mistake!! I also was promised the minutes would double, how can they double when you can't even get the phone activated? So today, after waiting another 48 hours, they didn't call and I had to call to get the same answers I had before. Needless to say, I don't have a working TracFone and I'm sitting with a totally worthless phone card with minutes that Wal-Mart won't refund me on. AVOID THIS PRODUCT AT ALL COSTS! I will add, I did get a refund on the phone itself, but now I'll have to deal with my credit card company or go to our local Better Business Bureau. I also want to add when I returned the phone to Wal-Mart, the supervisor at the customer service desk replied, NOT ANOTHER ONE OF THESE PHONES! This said it all for me when she made that comment. Furthermore, I want to add my frustration that I experienced by having to waste my precious time on the telephone for accumulated hours that added up to over 3 hours of my time. These so called customer service people need to be trained in the USA if they are going to communicate with people who speak English. How does a company like TracFone stay in business? I can answer this, they rip the consumer off by not giving them their purchased minutes! No wonder they are a multi-million dollar company, when they treat the consumers with no care or respect at all!!!!

The helpline said it was dead and I would have to purchase a new phone and transfer the minutes. When I tried to do that, they were unable to access our minutes from the old phone because it was dead. So, they said those were just lost. Also, they were unable to find any record of the new minutes I had just purchased 12/07/08. I told them I was looking at the Visa bill showing their $108.59 charge. After speaking to 3 different people (all hard to understand), & being put on hold numerous times, the 4th person was able to locate the charge and credit my phone with those new minutes. But, I am out the old minutes. Seems like that would've been in their records when I added the new minutes. I sure had to enter in enough codes and numbers. This last phone call (one of five, trying to fix this problem) took an hour and a half, most of it on hold.

I am adding to the complaint by Sanya in Farmville, NC. I just had the exact same experience with Tracfone. I purchased a Double Minutes for the Life of the phone card with my first Tracfone. That was Dec. 06. I have had no problems with the minutes doubling since then until now. A few months ago I put a value min plan on my phone and my husband’s as well. When this month’s minutes went two days ago - they did not double. I was sent an email response to my claim - identical to what Sanya was told that there was a glitch in their system and it was supposed to have expired a year ago.

When I called Tracfone regarding this completely bogus response I was then given two different responses. First an agent told me that the Double Minutes for Life feature only meant for the life of the warranty that was on the phone but that out of a courtesy they extended for one extra year past the warranty period of one year. Obviously, that was also bogus because that would be blatant false advertising since it clearly states on their website (and I printed it out with the fine print) that it is not the warranty period but the actual life of the phone. When I argued this with him he went to talk to someone in another department.

Then he gave this third bogus explanation that phones that were purchased prior to 2007 were somehow part of a glitch in their system but that out of the goodness of their generous hearts instead of completely removing the double min feature from our phones they had instead (without informing their customers) decided to just allow it to be a 2 yr card instead of for the life of the phone. However, if you purchased a phone after 2007 then you actually did have the double for life feature. Bogus, bogus, bogus...and they are planning on just getting away with this scot-free.

Not a chance as far as I am concerned. I intend to track down whatever avenues are available to me to rectify this. They are just another example of big businesses feeling like they can just walk right over the consumers. We need to stop tolerating this kind of false advertising. Even their catch phrase for the company includes the words No Surprises. Hah - not likely. Please...I implore others who have had this situation develop please, please come forward and let’s teach this company a lesson!

My husband and I have been customers of TracFone Wireless for several years. We have been pleased with the Pay-as-you-go method. We were so pleased we purchased an additional TracFone for my son. For Christmas this year, I decided to upgrade my husband's TracFone to a newer model with more features. Before deciding to make the purchase, I researched online the TracFone official website to find out if they were like other similar wireless companies that state in their ads that you can transfer your existing phone number to a new model (or phone). Everything on their website stated that you could transfer your existing phone number and it was easy and simple. It stated all you needed to do was go online and find the link to transfer your number and activate your new TracFone.

Well, it was not easy at all!! On Jan. 2nd, I went online to activate and put minutes on my son's phone. Then I started the process of activating my husband's new phone and transferring the existing # from his old phone to his new phone. I had even purchased his new TracFone online on TracFone's website. I went through all the steps and when I got to the submit button, it would not let me go any further. I tried different avenues, but to no avail. So, since our computer is hooked up to our home phone landed line, I decided I should not log out of my computer and cancel what I had already filled out online in case it would mess my TracFone transaction up. I used my TracFone and was using my prepaid minutes.

The first sales representative I talked over the phone took down all the information I had already put down on the online form. He then said he could finish the transaction for me and I would not use the form online. In our conversation, I told him we definitely wanted the same phone # and asked him repeatedly throughout our conversation if we would still get our existing #. He reassured me yes, we would. Even before ending our phone conversation, I once again asked if we still had our existing # and he told me yes. He said it would take an hour for the transaction to go through and after that hour to get on the new phone and go under Menu, Prepaid, and then scroll down to Phone #. I did all that and much to my surprise the phone number was not the existing #.

I quickly got called the TracFone 800 number and talked to different sales representative. The first sales rep. I unfortunately did not get his name or extension #. I should have, but I thought everything was taken care of for us. I don't remember how many sales rep I talked to, but I finally got a supervisor. All the sales reps and sup. also told me I could not longer get our old # because it was not longer available. I felt I was not getting anywhere with the sup. and said I would like to speak to someone at corporate. She told me that could not be done. One other thing that bothered me while talking to the sup. is she must have had me on speaker phone because I was having difficulty hearing her because there was a lot of talking and laughing in the background. Several times during our conversation I would ask her to repeat herself and it would take her awhile to say anything back to me. Sometimes I thought she might me talking to someone else. I am not sure about that.

After an hour on the phone with her wasting my TracFone minutes, she said she would send me a new SIM card for the new phone with the original number. It would come in 7 to 8 business days. When I received it, I was to take out the old card, insert the new card and go online and fill out the form I had originally started on 1-2-09. So, I did just that today (1-10-09). Once again I followed the steps given on the TracFone website and when I got to the red "Submit" button, this time it stated the following: "The Serial # entered is pending a transaction. Please allow 5 min. to process the transaction." After 5 min. I tried again. After 10 min. then 15 min. and finally 15 min., tried again. It kept stating the same thing.

So.. I once again used my TracFone and called their 800 #. One thing I should explain is that even though the # is 800 on TracFone's prepaid phones when you are on the phone, you are using up your minutes, so the 800 # is really not free. I timed the phone call and it was 31.7 minutes. The sales rep I spoke with kept coming back on the phone and said I would need to wait a minute or two while she contacted another sup. in another department. Finally, I told her my situation and I was using my TracFone minutes for this conversation. That last time, she came back from putting me on hold. She said that I would need to take a reference # and check back in 24 to 48 hours to see if the transaction was completed. I took her name/extension/reference # and will check back tomorrow to see what is up! I almost hate to check back because I know I will be starting the whole process over again. I am so discouraged! Thank you so much for your time and having a site that consumers can use to get their voice(s) heard!

Later after changing jobs I encouraged my employer to use TracFone do to the cost effectiveness and great service. When I purchased the phone and had it activated, I noticed that the minutes from my "personal" phone were gone and that the "work" phone had more minutes than I had originally purchased.

When I contacted TracFone, the customer service representative (of Indian decent) informed me that the minutes had been taken off my personal phone and added to my new phone. I asked them to switch them back and was informed that I could not do that. I would have to purchase minutes again to be put on my "personal" phone at a minimum cost of $20.00. I spoke with several "supervisors" and basically got nowhere. I ended up scrapping my "personal" phone and now have no phone for personal use. I realize this was a simple mistake on the part of the customer service representative but it should not have cost me an additional $20.00 to have the minutes that were on the phone originally put back on the phone. I cannot fully describe the frustration of calling the tech support folks in India who have put me through through the same routine over and over and over....Sometimes they have decided that the problem needed the help of one of their experts and I've had to wait a long time to get to speak to them. The expert has given me the same routine as the regular tech people and the upshot has been that they decided I need a new SIM card.

I'm now on my third SIM card and still can't get a call in or out. I'm ready to throw it in the trash but that's illegal...so I think I'll just mail it back to the company. I don't suppose it's really the fault of these poor folks who are trying to make a living in India but either they are very badly trained or just don't have a clue...I don't know. I have wasted not only my money but hours and hours of my time...To say that I do not recommend this product is a huge understatement!!

I purchased the TracFone for my mother. Two months ago, we had problems with the phone after I had loaded minutes via their website. The phone would not accept the minutes. I contacted TracFone, the customer service rep talked me through the situation, about 10 min worth of codes and stuff, then it worked. Two months later, the same thing happen, the phone is not worth the problems. To make things worse, the website I had register now seems like it doesn't have my account number. This is totally frustrating and I would not recommend that anyone use this service or phone. I am not going out the door to find a better product. My mother relies on the phone for contact, she has medical issues, diabetic, needs to be able to contact someone when a situation arises.

We purchased a Tracfone for my parents for Christmas as they don't use a cell phone very much at all but it nice to have just in case. I activated the phone and over the next 72 hours the phone was never usable. Every time we tried to use it all we got was an automated attendant in the roaming network and our phone is not registered and can't be used. I would call Tracfone and spend 10 to 15 minutes each phone call putting in new codes and they would say it should be working in the next 4 hours. IT NEVER WORKED!! I finally called and cancelled everything. I would stay away from this phone, it is a pain in the butt.
