Insights from 82 recent reviews of uShip

We used sentence-by-sentence statistical analysis to decode more than 80 uShip reviews published on ConsumerAffairs in the past year. Read below about customers who were happy, satisfied or upset about the four topics mentioned most often in reviews of uShip.

uShip staff reviews

The 24 recent uShip reviewers who discussed staff focused on the drivers that executed their vehicle’s shipment and delivery. 79% of those customers were happy or satisfied, ranking uShip ninth among car shipping companies on our site.

Positive reviewers told us their drivers handled everything professionally and kept them updated throughout the process.

A few negative reviewers cited poor quality service from their selected delivery staff, sometimes leading to damage. Before purchasing shipping services through uShip, we suggest you review the insurance and liability policies of both uShip and your selected carrier in case of such issues.

uShip customer service reviews

uShip ranks ninth in customer service among auto transporters on our site: 70% of 20 recent reviewers were happy or satisfied with the support and responsiveness of the company’s customer service.

Of the negative reviewers, many were disappointed with uShip’s lack of assistance in resolving issues with carrier companies and drivers.

“I had nothing but issues in trying to ship a motor using uShip. To be fair, most of the issues were with the freight company that bid through uShip, but when things went sour and the delivery and pick up were messed up, and I was charged extra on top of the original already paid quote, uShip’s customer service was not really interested in my complaints or making things right,” said Jake from Green Valley, Arizona.

uShip punctuality & speed reviews

Of 18 recent uShip reviewers who talked about punctuality and speed, 89% were satisfied or happy with the timeliness of their car shipping experience. That ranks the company eighth among auto transporters on our site.

While many reviewers told us their vehicles were shipped quickly and delivered on time, a few reported their delivery timelines were changed multiple times with little to no explanation. If you use uShip to ship your car, we suggest you regularly contact your selected carrier to get the most up-to-date ETA.

uShip price reviews

20 recent reviews of uShip mentioned price. Many reviewers felt prices were reasonable and liked choosing their own quote from the offers on uShip’s platform.

“I received a few competitive quotes and chose the freight person based on the reviews. Quotes were actually much better than on similar sites,” said Kirsten from Springfield, Massachusetts.

Ultimately, 95% of recent reviewers who mentioned price were happy or satisfied, ranking uShip eighth among auto transport companies on our site.

We have used uShip twice now to book cross country deliveries of vintage/antique furniture and both experiences have been perfect! Competitive bidding helps you stick to a budget, and the shippers/carriers are very good about communication so you can work to get the best price in a specified timeframe. Items were always handled with care and delivered by friendly people. uShip doesn't release funds to the shipper/carrier until you accept the delivery which gives peace of mind. We recommend Uship and will continue to use it as needed!

We had great success with UShip. The carrier was everything you could ever hope for. His price was fair, his timing was quick and punctual, and he was accommodating to our needs. I would never hesitate to use him again when shipping from the Chicago area. I am located in the DFW area and purchased an item on EBay from the Chicago vicinity that I needed to be shipped to Utah, and I was dubious at first. However we selected Luke Johnson as our carrier, and thanks to him, everything went perfectly.

I have been trying to resolve for months and they are ZERO help. I have used them for a few years for many various shipping needs, but after this experience I will no longer be a customer. uShip is great for mid size stuff. Our first experience was perfection! The next two with heavy farm equipment was the worst. Actually had to cancel the shipment(s) before it timed out. The site is dominated by brokers telling you all the extra charges, so you don’t know what to end up paying. Would not cooperate with the dates required. A fake carrier showed up and made an impossible bid using a car carrier for a Hesston swather!!! We emailed the actual company and they only haul cars! Didn’t know anything about uShip posting. So there you go, we think uShip is a great idea and just needs to have a better vetting process for the carriers that can post bids, otherwise it is such a waste of time and resources.

If I could give UShip zero stars I would. The worst experience ever. I used them to ship a Tesla hood to Texas from Wisconsin. They suggested TForce as the transit company. I boxed the hood up with extra care and protection and it was more than secure. I took out an extra $1000 insurance to cover the cost of the hood, which was purchased on eBay from a garage in the Dallas area. Everything started smoothly until TForce attempted to deliver the hood on the intended day, but the driver brought the wrong truck without a lift gate.

The next day, the same thing happened because the driver from the previous day didn’t enter notes. On the third day the hood was completely lost by TForce and they didn’t know where it was and said it could be either on a dock or in a trailer. The fourth day the driver said no one was at the business to deliver, but the dock doors were completely open. I asked why the driver didn’t call the business and TForce rep said they don’t have company issued phones and it’s up to them if they want to use their personal ones. I guess he didn’t, so he left. The fifth day after I called and complained, it was finally delivered, but had a huge hole in the side of the box with a huge dent in the hood, like a fork from a forklift speared it.

I filed a insurance claim with USHip and was denied and the letter said it was my fault. I appealed the denial and sent in all the photos I took of my packaging prior to shipping it out and the damage after, along with a visor of it before and how well it was packaged. UShip sat on this appeal for weeks and sent me an email which said it was denied, please see the original letter. No explanation or anything. What a Fraud. This is the worst company and would recommend no one used them. They are unprofessional and scam you out of extra money for insurance with no intention of paying the claim out.

Very disappointed with uShip. Not only was the shipment picked up a day later than scheduled, but I was also charged additional fees for a lift gate service and a remote delivery surcharge that were completely unnecessary. I had a forklift available at the delivery location, so there was no need for a lift gate. In addition, my delivery address is located in a city and should not have been classified as a remote delivery. These extra charges significantly increased the cost and felt misleading. The delayed pickup caused inconvenience, and the unexpected fees only added to the frustration. I expected accurate scheduling and transparent pricing, but my experience was the opposite. Based on this experience, I would think twice before using uShip again.

They did a great job delivering but UShip is a scammer and they stole money from our shippers.

We hauled a load number ** for a broker under the name Infinity Logistics Management (ILM) for $5200. Upon invoicing, via our factoring company, we were notified by ILM accounting department that they don’t have that load number in their system nor do they have that broker agent under their firm. Their driver tried to rip me off after picking up the motorcycle then he tried to rip me off at drop off and if I'd let him rip me off. I would have paid 4,400 in total for the bike to be shipped and when it got here it was tipped over. uShip says he got to use the driver's insurance. I don't know what I bought insurance for. uship just doesn't seem to give a crap. Our experience with uShip has been extremely concerning and, frankly, unacceptable. Our account was suddenly placed on hold without any clear, evidence-based explanation. At the same time, we were told by a representative (Danny T.) that we could still complete our active shipments—only to then see actions that directly interfered with those same shipments. The lack of consistency and transparency is alarming.

What escalates this issue further is what we have now learned directly from one of our clients. The client has stated—and has a recorded conversation to support it—that a uShip representative (Zach) offered them a discounted “protection plan” as an incentive to cancel their contract with us and rebook with another carrier. That raises serious questions about whether uShip is acting as a neutral platform or actively steering business for its own financial benefit.

Additionally, uShip has been sending emails to our clients that create fear, doubt, and mistrust about our company. Instead of acting as a neutral third party, these communications appear to undermine carriers and influence customers’ decisions. When a platform inserts itself into active contracts in this way, it crosses a line from facilitation into interference.

We have always handled our business professionally—resolving claims, communicating with clients, and operating transparently. To have a platform step in and potentially disrupt those relationships while presenting itself as “neutral” is deeply problematic. If you are a carrier, be aware that your business relationships may not be protected. If you are a customer, be cautious about how information is presented to you and consider verifying claims independently before making decisions. We are actively documenting everything and taking this matter seriously

When selecting pick up location type you can only select one category. So if the site has a loading dock and is considered “limited access” and because I have the ability to only select one category I received an extra charge after delivery was made. I tried to explain multiple times with “customer service” this and got nowhere. It would be helpful if as I suggested we have a 30 second phone call rather than email back and forth endlessly.

PNSLOGISTIC (brokered via USHIP) left us in the lurch. Shipper lost all the hardware required for the very expensive bed he picked up in New Orleans and delivered to Maine. Told us his truck broke down delaying delivery and then when he arrived stated that he DID get the hardware, but must have left it in broken truck. ZERO proactive communication from this shipper, ALWAYS us chasing him. He promised to mail the hardware, but 3 weeks after delivery, still no hardware & HE HAS STOPPED RESPONDING to our texts asking for completed service we paid him for.

USHIP should not contract with shippers like PNSLOGISTIC, who do not communicate proactively when there are delays, do not abide by the contracted delivery and (after receiving payment), leave customers with only partial results. We have attempted communication with the shipper directly, but he has stopped responding and we are left with an expensive item we cannot put together because of PNSLOGISTIC failure to deliver complete package he picked up.

This site connects me to thousands of shippers all around the country and I have no clue how I would access this large pool of shippers without U-Ship. It has helped my business tremendously, to a point where I don't know if I could've stayed in business without U-Ship.

The driver whose bid I accepted was accommodating, professional, and nice to work with. I would recommend anyone using uShip to take care when choosing someone to handle your job; not all drivers may be as responsible as mine is.

I was nervous about transporting a car for the first time, mostly because I expected a flood of phone calls and pushy salespeople. uShip was the total opposite — no hassle, no pressure, and an overall experience that deserves more than 5 stars. I shipped an older vehicle from Southern California to Northern Utah, and everything from start to finish was simple and straightforward. The interface was easy to navigate, the booking process was smooth, and the price beat every competitor I checked. I couldn’t be happier. I’ve already started recommending uShip to others and will definitely use them again for future needs.

I bought a used Sprinter door in NY and used Jose ** of Chucca Transport through USHIP to move it to SC. Jose was a pleasure to deal with and went the extra mile for me. Delivery could not have been any better and I highly recommend Jose.

Delivery issues: Major problems include significant delays, lost items, and damaged goods, damaged walls, unreliable service and potential scams from low-ball offers that never materialize. Initial low-ball offer did not translate into actual services with a carrier. Paid guaranteed delivery but they tried to scam me into their system doesn’t have the date. After 3 times confirmation from their customer service the date was confirmed. Do yourself a favor! Don’t hire this company!! Bunch of crooks and scammers.

I got quickly connected to an actual shipper and had my bike shipped within 2 days. I initially tried another platform, which had lot of logistic companies and not actual shippers, who constantly told me that my bike will be shipped soon. After 20 days and still not getting shipped, I moved to uShip and got an offer within a day and got it shipped immediately. Very happy with uShip.

        uShip FAQ

        What is uShip?

uShip is an open marketplace for people who need to move large items from one location to another. Users can post their shipping needs, and then transportation service providers can bid on the shipment. You can read customer reviews and select the company best suited to complete the job.

uShip’s movers include large and small businesses. uShip doesn’t prequalify or validate the licenses of any shipping company for most marketplace shipments, so you’ll need to do your homework before selecting a carrier. Before agreeing to work with a carrier, ensure that it has U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and Motor Carrier (MC) numbers, which are required for companies that operate vehicles hauling cargo in interstate commerce.

        How does uShip work?

Start by completing a free listing so that companies can start providing you with quotes. The amount of time it takes to receive quotes varies based on the origin and destination of your shipment, but most listings receive quotes within 24 to 48 hours of submission.

You must provide as much information as possible to get the most accurate bid, as in-home estimates are not provided by uShip. The platform allows you to create an inventory of the items you want to ship, and you can upload photos to show the items you’ll be transporting. If you underestimate how much stuff you have, it can cost you a lot more on moving day.

The uShip app allows you to track your move while it's in progress. However, the carrier you select must have its location sharing turned on for this to work. You can ask about this during the bidding process.

The “Ship with Confidence” Guarantee means uShip compensates you up to $500 if your items are lost or damaged. If you want additional peace of mind, you can purchase a uShip Protection Plan at the time of checkout (available to most U.S.-based customers). The price of a uShip Protection Plan varies depending on the types of items you’re shipping.

Transporters operating across state lines must have Motor Carrier (MC) and U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) numbers. There may be noncompliant service providers on uShip, though, that aren’t licensed to move things legally across state lines. uShip doesn’t prequalify movers or transporters, so always ask about insurance and licensing before accepting a bid. The company does use SaferWatch, a third-party service, to monitor whether a carrier has an active or inactive insurance policy.

        How much does uShip cost?

Once you post a shipment listing, you get bids from multiple service providers. The shipping calculator helps you estimate what the move should approximately cost so that you can better assess which bids are competitive.

Here are a few examples of bids we received on uShip’s platform to ship a variety of items:

        ItemMileageBid range
        2023 Sea Fox 288 Commander851$3,000 - $3,800
        Hyster S80XL243$980 - $1,250
        Sofa1,382$574 - $1,324
        1 bedroom apartment686$2,000 - $3,500
        LTL: 1 loose788$850 - $1,350
        2014 KTM 125 SX2,103$800- $1,200
        2013 Ford Super Duty F-250 SRW608$875 - $1,553

uShip also offers a military discount through ID.me for active-duty members of the U.S. armed forces, veterans and military spouses.

        What are uShip shipping options?

Service providers on uShip move items in several different categories. Some can tackle furniture delivery and whole-home moves, while some specialize in the transport of automobiles, freight and other large items.

        Vehicles and boats

Need to ship a car across the country or find a boat transporter? Just provide information about the make and model of your vehicle and indicate if it’s operable. uShip’s carriers handle the following:

        • Cars and light trucks
        • Motorcycles and mopeds
        • Powerboats
        • Sailboats
        • Personal watercraft
        • Recreational vehicles (RVs)
        • All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and powersport vehicles
        • Commercial trucks
        • Farm equipment
        • Construction equipment
        • Vehicle and boat parts
        • Trailers
        • Other vehicles and boats

        Household items

uShip can help you ship large items to and from your home or business, including:

        • Furniture
        • Appliances
        • Home electronics
        • Outdoor equipment
        • Sporting equipment
        • Antiques
        • Art and glass
        • Pianos
        • Pool tables

To set up a shipment, you’ll need to provide details about the size and weight of the item.

        Whole-home moves

Are you relocating? uShip can help you with your move. To get a quote online, select from one of the following:

        • Small studio
        • Large studio/one-bedroom apartment
        • Two-bedroom apartment
        • Three-bedroom apartment/two-bedroom house
        • Three-bedroom house
        • Four-bedroom house
        • Office

There’s an option to add shipment inventory details and a way to upload pictures to your listing, which can help generate a more accurate estimate of the move cost.

        Heavy equipment

uShip can also help you transport tractors, bulldozers and other hard-to-move equipment. You’ll have to provide information about the make and model of the equipment and whether or not it’s already on a trailer.

        Freight

You can ship freight with uShip by LTL (less than truckload) or full truckload, including:

        • LTL new commercial goods
        • LTL used commercial goods
        • LTL wine, liquor, beer and spirits

You’ll need to provide the dimensions, quantity and weight of the goods and indicate if they’re hazardous. For this type of transport, your items must be palletized or crated so transporters can use a pallet jack or forklift.

        Animals

If you’re trying to get a dog, cat, horse or other animal moved, you can use uShip. You’ll be asked about your animal’s name, breed, weight, vaccination status and more to create this type of listing.

        Other

If you have something to move that doesn’t fit into one of the above categories, you can create a listing under “Other” on the uShip site and see which carriers can help you.

        uShip moving services

As you create your listing, you can specify which level of service you’d like. uShip has three main service options: self-service, loading service and white-glove delivery.

        • Self-service: You pack your belongings and load them onto the moving truck. The movers then drive the truck to your new location, where you unload your cargo.
        • Loading service: You pack up your cargo before the movers arrive. The transporter is responsible for loading your things onto the truck. When the truck reaches your selected destination, the movers help with unloading.
        • White-glove service: With this full-service model, the service provider takes care of everything for you. The company packs up your items, loads them onto the truck, drives the truck and unloads the items at their destination. The movers can even help set up your appliances and assemble your furniture if you request this service ahead of time. You can also request that they remove any debris associated with the delivery before they leave.
        Where is uShip available?

uShip’s service providers can transport your belongings throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as accommodate some international shipments.

Is uShip a broker or carrier?

uShip is not a broker or a carrier: it’s a marketplace platform where users can post their shipping needs and transportation service providers can bid on the shipment.

Similar to auto transport brokers, uShip is not actually doing the pickup, shipping and delivery — it’s a means of finding a service provider who will.

However, unlike an auto transport broker, uShip does not select and coordinate shipment with a preferred carrier. If you use uShip, you will select a service provider from those that bid on your shipment and coordinate with it directly.

        Is uShip legit?

uShip is a great place to get competitive bids if you need to transport anything big and bulky. Once you create a free listing on uShip’s open marketplace, you can receive bids from various shipping companies, which can help you get a competitive price. You can also communicate with the transporters or movers and ask them questions throughout the process.

Just keep in mind that not every service provider on the site is guaranteed to have the licenses required for your move, so it’s important to carefully check credentials. Also, uShip doesn’t send out estimators to help price your move, so you’ll want to carefully estimate how much room your things will take so the service provider can give you an accurate quote.
