What is NVP Warranty?

NVP Warranty works with dealers around the country to provide extended service contracts at the point of sale. These contracts can cover most of your vehicle's mechanical and electrical components and extend protection beyond the manufacturer's warranty. Some plans have optional coverages, such as wear and tear coverage, business use, Lyft and Uber use and unlimited miles.

Unlike some extended warranty providers that restrict you to an in-network list of repair shops, NVP Warranty lets you take your car to any repair shop in the U.S. or Canada for covered repairs, giving you more freedom in how you fix your car. NVP has no waiting period, so your coverage begins as soon as payment is accepted.

NVP contracts are sold only through approved dealers and can’t be purchased directly from the company after vehicle purchase.

NVP Warranty coverage

NVP Warranty has five core coverage levels: Powertrain, 3 Star, 4 Star, 5 Star and Exclusionary. The Exclusionary tier has two additional options, Exclusionary Plus and Exclusionary Wrap. Each plan comes with 24/7 roadside assistance and rental car reimbursement. Here’s a high-level look at each plan:

  • Powertrain: The company’s most basic service contract agreement covers major components like the engine, transmission, drive axle and four-wheel drive systems. You can't add optional coverage to this plan.
  • 3 Star: In addition to all Powertrain components, this plan covers the brakes, air conditioning system, cooling system and several electrical components. Some steering and suspension parts are also covered.
  • 4 Star: This level adds the fuel system and more sensors to the list of covered items. It also includes fluids, Freon and diagnostics. You can pay an optional additional charge to cover wear and tear, business use, lift kits and more on some plans.
  • 5 Star: This plan builds on Powertrain, 3 Star and 4 Star coverage, adding trip interruption benefits ideal for drivers who travel frequently. It also includes a broader sensor package.
  • Exclusionary: NVP’s most comprehensive level, this high-end plan covers all mechanical and electrical components except those listed as exclusions.
    • Exclusionary Plus: For a used car with up to 150,000 miles, this level offers Exclusionary coverage for the first part of the contract, then switches to the Powertrain plan for an additional 24 months or 24,000 miles — whichever comes first.
    • Exclusionary Wrap: Designed to wrap around your original factory warranty, this plan covers additional parts and systems your other coverage may miss.

NVP Warranty cost

NVP Warranty doesn’t publish plan prices on its website and doesn’t sell directly to consumers. Instead, pricing is set by individual dealerships.

As with other extended warranty providers, the cost varies based on your vehicle's age, make, and model, as well as its mileage. The company charges more for vehicles with diesel engines, turbos or superchargers, dual wheels, hybrids and other unique features.

Discounts

The company’s site doesn’t list standard discounts or promotions; any promotional pricing or bundling is typically handled by the selling dealer.

NVP Warranty exclusions

When you purchase a Powertrain, 3 Star, 4 Star or 5 Star plan from NVP Warranty, only items listed on your contract agreement are covered. The Exclusionary plans work in reverse, covering everything except items listed specifically as exclusions.

Examples of items commonly excluded from NVP contracts include:

  • All maintenance-related items like lightbulbs, filters and spark plugs
  • Restraint system sensors
  • Air bags
  • Exhaust system components
  • GPS or navigation systems
  • Satellite communication systems like OnStar
  • Damage from neglect, lack of maintenance, accidents, collisions or racing
  • Failure caused by earthquakes, flooding or other “acts of God”

NVP Warranty contracts

After you purchase an extended service agreement from a participating dealer, NVP sends you a contract specifying the exact coverage details. You can refer back to it if you have questions about what is or isn't covered.

The contract contains basic information about your vehicle, your coverage start date, which plan you have and how long your coverage lasts. You’ll see your deductible, which varies by plan. Your contract also spells out which components are covered or excluded under your plan and provides information about the roadside assistance program.

The contract concludes with all the legal language explaining your rights and responsibilities — for example, you’re expected to have regular vehicle maintenance checks, and the plan administrator reserves the right to request proof that you’ve completed these items.

NVP Warranty FAQ

Where is NVP Warranty available?

You can only purchase an NVP Warranty through an authorized dealer. Some states have plan restrictions — for example, the Exclusionary Plus plan isn’t available in California.

How do I file a claim with NVP Warranty?

If your vehicle needs a covered repair, take it to any licensed repair facility in the U.S. or Canada and have the service writer call NVP Warranty for preauthorization.

Can I cancel my NVP Warranty contract?

Cancellation forms are available only for dealers, so you’ll need to contact the dealership where you purchased your contract to request cancellation.

Are NVP Warranty contracts transferable?

NVP Warranty allows a one-time transfer of the contract if you sell your car to a private buyer. There is a $100 fee, and you must submit a written request within 30 days of the sale.

Still have questions?

Is NVP Warranty worth it?

If you value the convenience of immediate coverage and the freedom to choose your own mechanic, NVP Warranty offers several coverage options. The company offers multiple levels of coverage, and every plan includes roadside assistance and rental car reimbursement.

The main hurdle is the lack of transparency in pricing. Since NVP Warranty doesn’t sell directly to consumers, no pricing information is available on its website. You’ll have to contact your dealer for details about purchasing coverage and managing your contract.

I spent over $7000 in car repairs at 2 shops, the most reputable non-dealership shop and the car manufacturer's dealership both top notch and legit. That's where the legitimacy ends... This "warranty" co. is a total scam, not one single part covered out of $7k.. The repair costs would have been almost half paid for from the money I threw down the drain with non-existent "coverage" from NVP. Do yourself a big favor and keep your money for actual repairs, not just for NVP's greedy pockets.

This company refused to pay out for a necessary repair when my mechanic called them, that was supposed to be covered. Then another “covered” part went in the car and they only would be an amount for a part that my mechanic could not even come close to in any database at their cost. And we’re not talking a 50.00 difference. We’re talking more than a $400.00 difference. My mechanic said this is the worst third party insurance company they have ever dealt with.

My car has been sitting in the mechanic's shop for SIX WEEKS and they cannot even get a call back from NVP to get their inspector to come and give the OK for repairs. From what I'm reading from other reviews, it's likely this warranty is worthless anyway. DO NOT BUY an NVP warranty.

I want to share my experience with **NVP Warranty**, and let me tell you, it has been incredibly frustrating. The main issue lies with their system—it has some serious flaws. They’ve partnered with independent dealerships to sell their warranties, but here’s where things get tricky: if a dealership sells you a warranty after the original sale date, **NVP has no way to track it.**

I found out the hard way when I was **denied coverage** because the dealership sold me a warranty that wasn’t even valid. This shook my trust in the company to its core. It’s beyond concerning to think that if a dealership makes a mistake, there’s no immediate way for customers to know that their warranty might not be legitimate. I genuinely believe I should have been notified right away when the warranty was sold to me, so I wouldn’t have spent months under the false impression that I was covered.

This situation highlights a critical need for **transparency and trust**, and frankly, NVP needs to step up their game in this area. It doesn’t matter what your education level is; anyone can see how this could easily appear to be a scam. Until they fix this glaring issue, I urge you: **don’t make the same mistake I did by trusting NVP Warranty.**

The worst Warranty company there is. Don’t do it. They take your money and deny your claim. Make you pay for teardowns to find the issue with the car. Just to find any reason they can to deny the claim.

I took my Honda Crosstour to the dealership to have the alternator checked out, after the battery light came on. The dealership put in a claim for the parts and labor with NVP. The labor rate is maxed out at 150/hour, so think twice before taking your vehicle to a dealership to be worked on. You are responsible for the difference in parts and labor. I was offered ship your own parts by NVP, but the dealership said no. I paid $3500 for this warranty under the 4-star plan.

I recently purchased an NVP Auto warranty on 11/19/2024 for a 2012 Ford F150 in Bloomington Illinois. On 12/2/2024 I took my truck to the local Ford dealership because I had noticed oil or some kind of engine fluid leaking on my driveway after driving the truck on 11/30/24. I was told by the service department that I needed a new water pump and to my surprise NVP Warranty covered the cost of a new water pump and the labor at the Ford dealership! The NVP advisor was very professional and experienced at his job. His Name was Mike and I hope in the future should I have an issue with my vehicle I get Mike or an adviser as professional as Mike at NVP Warranty!

I would highly recommend NVP Warranty to anyone who might be hesitant about purchasing an automobile warranty because I was very hesitant about purchasing an automobile warranty. I thought I had wasted money on a warranty, I WAS SO WRONG! Don't believe that NVP Warranty is a rip off from other reviews. I believe that some people think that when you purchase a warranty that it covers everything and sometimes people try to take advantage of the privilege of having a Warranty! Don't waste your time and money with NVP Warranty. They don't cover anything and their descriptions are vague at best. I have only had them for three months and I had two claims. One was a boot that came off of my inner tie rod which connects to the steering rack. The steering rack is covered by warranty and the tie rod is covered by warranty but the boot that protects where the two connect is not, REALLY!! They denied it and it cost me less than 100.00 to fix it and yet they denied it, I don't get it. They cover my 4X4 system yet when my transfer case motor failed, they denied the claim saying that the part is not covered.

There are so many good warranty companies out there, don't get stuck with this one! Find a company that will actually cover your car. I totally wasted 2600.00 and can not get a refund as the dealer that I bought the car from said I could only transfer the warranty, not cancel it. That was Houston Auto Credit which is a whole other story, don't buy from them either. They are total frauds!
