I bought my 2008 Honda Odyssey EXL in 2011 with 72000km on it. It has been amazing. She now has 326000km on her and still rides comfortably and quietly. Just like every car, there has been regular wear and tear maintenance (brakes, suspension, sliding door rollers, just recently a battery and alternator). I love the car like ride, the super comfortable seats, the visibility and the handling. With my job I drive many different kinds of vehicles and I am always amazed at how much better my Odyssey rides than most other much newer vehicles out there. I am reluctantly looking for another vehicle (and seriously thinking about another Odyssey) as I know my time might be limited with this van, but I will be keeping it for the kids to drive to their summer jobs.

Was driving my one month old Honda Odyssey when the sunroof literally exploded outward from my car. We weren’t near other cars, trees or overpasses. Since we had literally just bought this brand new $42,000 minivan and had done nothing wrong, we assumed our warranty would cover this. Nope. And once they decided they weren’t covering it, there was no one else they’d let you speak to. They basically just said, "Tough luck." I was a loyal Honda owner but this will be my last.

I bought the 2018 Honda Odyssey for my wife in late 2017. We have had numerous problems with it. First problem was the camera system. The van would slow down all by itself. The first time it happened I driving over the Grapevine in Southern California. The van still had the paper plates on it. I was driving down an incline and as I neared the bottom the road began to rise and turn to the right. The camera must have thought the rise in the road was a car because it slowed from 65 to 25 immediately, and I could not prevent it. I took it to the dealership and and told them what had happened. They returned the van and said they could not find any problems as the van did not "throw" any codes.

They suggested that I turn down the sensitivity. This did not cure the problem. We had several more instances with the van flashing "BRAKE" on the dashboard when there was nothing in front of me, and "STEERING REQUIRED" even though I was steering the car. The final incident came when my wife was driving the car down a city street and the flashed "BRAKE" and immediately came to a complete stop in the middle of the road causing the cars behind her to swerve to avoid a rear end collision. I took the van right over to Honda and told them what had happened and to keep the van until they figure out what the problem is. To my surprise they told me that the camera had finally "thrown" a code and it burned out. They replaced the camera. This nonsense went on for 16 months before they finally figured out the camera was defective.

Our latest problem is the van does not want to start. No lights come on anywhere in the van. Then the lights come on and the van still will not start. It sat all of Saturday. I tried to charge the battery but it would not take a charge, and it still wouldn't start. It is currently at Honda and when they called me today they told me they could not duplicate the problem. For them the van started right up, it is charging and everything is working fine. They are going to keep it overnight and try to recreate the problem. Doesn't matter to me. I am getting rid of the van and I am going to buy something else that is more dependable. The only thing I can depend on the Odyssey to be is be undependable. I will never buy another Honda and I will never suggest that anyone buy a Honda either.

Currently have roughly 30,000 miles on my 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite. Never listen to my wife that it was leaking in the rear hatch area. Thinking it was just running in when the hatch got opened. After a few times looking at it I realized it was leaking. Took to dealer and they say they have found the leak. But now my van is rusted on the inside. Way to go Honda. Can't wait to see what they come up with on this. I'm sure somehow I will be stuck with it. It's been in the shop for 2 weeks now.

The 2018 Honda Odyssey is awful! Having many issues with the van. Been in the shop 3 times in 2 months. They always say the same thing, “this is normal for the van”! The transmission jerks, the gas gauge doesn’t work. I said to them if this was “normal” it would of happened on day one. Not a year later. Honda said these are “characteristics” of this van. They should of told me about these characteristics before I bought the van!!! Never again will I buy a Honda.

Worst van ever. Very unreliable. I don’t honestly know where to begin. This van is so bad. Roof leaks water and comes out of the curtain, airbag plug inside, leaked down to fuse panel. Shorted out something, vsa and abs light come on and off constantly, master window control buttons quit working, motor mounts are junk, harmonic damper fell apart and belt came off, power steering hose leaked all fluid out which made the pump constantly noisy, navigating system sucks, the van is a complete electrical nightmare. Don’t buy!!! Why they hold value is beyond me. I’d rather have a Chrysler product and that’s saying something...

On the way home from school today, a car ran a red light and slammed into the middle of the driver side of my 2012 Honda Odyssey. I was driving my wife and six children. The collision itself is a blur in my memory. The side airbags deployed. The children screamed. And the van ended up on the side of the road. The other driver left in an ambulance. We walked home with only a couple of surface bruises. Thank you, Honda Odyssey!

He could have been killed. Honda I own 2 Odysseys and will never buy a Honda product again and wouldn't recommend to anyone. I wouldn't buy a Honda Odyssey for my dog. I gave them a chance to make things right but I guess attorneys will be involved now.

Yes so I purchased a new 2016 Honda Odyssey with cash straight up. I put 44,200 miles on it passing the 36,000-mile warranty and noticed a snapping sound when I turn left in the steering column. It is annoying and gets worse where it happens more often than not. You can see Youtube videos of this annoyance. It is a problem with the steering column bearings. Well Honda has a recall for this for 2015 and half of the 2016 Odyssey models. My 2016 Vin number seems to be not on that recall list. Why? So it's my fault my steering makes snapping noises and bothers me that maybe it will freeze up and I crash. So I would have to pay for this when others get a recall.

If I knew I would have to pay for a steering column bearing problem after 36,000 miles I would never have purchased the vehicle. If I knew this problem at all I would not have purchased the vehicle. But I think it considerate if Honda fixes this issue. How is it my fault? I did not take apart my steering column and mess with the bearings. It is absolutely ridiculous. Be careful buying a Honda. My wife even bought a 2017 Honda Pilot. This is how they treat their customers pretty appalling.

I bought a 2016 Honda Odyssey LX new. At 2900 miles I had an experience where the engine revved at high RPMs while my foot was on the break, pressing hard. I turned it off and turned it on and it revved again so I turned it off. I waited a few minutes and turned it on again and all was OK. The dealer checked it but could find no problem. It happened again last week (12,500 miles), also at a stop sign and required a lot of pressure on the break. I turned it off. When I turned it on it revved again so I turned it off. I tried again after a few minutes and it was OK. I have an appointment to have it looked at by the Honda dealer but my guess is they will not find anything. I have reported the problem to the National Highway traffic safety as I fear this could cause an accident. But for this... I love this car.

I purchased a used 2005 Honda Odyssey EX in 2010. I have loved this van! It has 209,000 miles on it, so I know its time is limited, but I'm having a hard time finding a replacement because I love it so much. PROS: SPACE. When I bought it I had four kids under 12, complete with car seats, strollers, soccer and swim gear, etc. Now my kids range from 21 to 11 and there is still room for all of us; even my 6'2" husband and son can sit comfortably in the third row back seat if needed during long trips. Plenty of head room and leg room!

STORAGE SPACE: My Odyssey has plenty of storage room, but my favorite is a locking storage space in the floor between the front seats and second row captains' chairs, complete with a lazy susan. This has been one of my FAVORITE features of this van. I call it my "hiding place" because I can hide my purse there when I need to and feel that it's safe from prying eyes. We have also stored headphones and the remote for the DVD player there. (DVD player is aftermarket.) NOTE: I've been shopping for a newer Odyssey and am extremely disappointed that my "hiding place" has now been turned into the spare tire storage space. I'm am SO UNHAPPY about this. Besides losing storage space, can you imagine having to get it out while stuck on the road with your kids? "Excuse me kids, while I wrangle this thing out of here!" This is the biggest reason I'm having a hard time finding a newer van.

CUP HOLDERS. Enough for everyone and then some! They are versatile enough to hold virtually any size water bottle. AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOORS: These have been a pro and a con. When they work, they are a pro. But I've had trouble with them working properly in the cold. And now that the van is older, the right door doesn't work at all. I have to turn it to manual to open it at all.

CEILING REAR VENTS and MULTI-ZONE A/C: Besides more space, this is another reason I chose a mini van over a crossover. My sister drives a crossover because she's too cool for a mini van, but her kid is always hot in the back seat because the rear vents are in the center console instead of in the ceiling. I love that my kids can control the rear air and direct the air where they need it. Each passenger has their own vent. Aaahhh... Super cool!

EIGHTH SEAT OPTION: I haven't had to use it too often, but when we've had to carpool, it's been nice to have one extra seat. CONS: AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOORS: (see above). A/C: The A/C is OK, but the A/C in my Ford Windstar was more powerful. Also, my A/C completely died in 2015, which was a $1500 repair. Can't say for sure that was a Honda problem, though. That could happen in any car.

REPAIRS: Over the years, we've repaired/replaced the following: Engine Motor mounts. Shocks/Struts. CV Axles (at about 185,000 miles, the car started vibrating badly at high speeds) A/C. EGR Valve. Power steering leak. Sway bar link. Now it needs new catalytic converters, but haven't replaced them yet. (209,000 miles on this van!)

We bought this 2013 Odyssey new and within the first 20k miles the van developed a shutter when accelerating. We had it reviewed during an oil change, but the mechanics could not duplicate the issue. This progressively became worse, and now the vehicle is almost to the point we don't drive it any longer. Honda suggests we now (currently 130k miles) replace the torque converter at a cost of more than $3k. I called Honda Support, and they are unwilling to extend the coverage despite the fact this is a common issue with the Odyssey (because it's not a safety issue it is not covered as a recall).

Beware of buying an Odyssey, I will not own another Honda minivan. They make great cars, but you will find many forums that will highlight this same issue and that Honda is not fixing the known mechanical issues on this van. Aside from this major issue, it's also not as comfortable as other manufacturers for long drives; Chrysler, Toyota and Nissan are all very good for comfort.

I purchased a 2006 Honda Odyssey from a private owner for 5,000 which first should not have been sold that much. Same night, took to Jiffy Lube to get an oil change. Jiffy Lube said they would not do the change because there was oil everywhere. I called the person I got the car from they were very upset and said, "I'll give you the money back but it has to be TONIGHT." At the time I did not want the money back. I just wanted to know what was going on with the van. And why the sudden rush to return the van THAT NIGHT.

I wish I would have listened. This has been the worst vehicle in my life! Battery, Alternator, Radiator, Gasket, Transmission, Axle, Brakes/Rotors, Oxygen Sensor, all replaced it was an issue week after week. Getting caught on the highway for hours, because van jerked, check engine light, VSA lights, ABS lights would come on. This car must have been in a junk yard then purchased and sold to me. I hated everything about this van...and the fact that the person who sold it, had no concern or even thought to reach out and say ok, I'll help you post and sell it, since that's what they do!, but no I was told IT'S YOUR CAR, pretty much deal with it now, it's not their problem. You live and learn, never purchase a car from a private owner without taking the car to be checked by someone YOU TRUST, NOT their mechanic, because all those things should have been found. I have large family and not having a dependable car was very frustrating.

I don't know what Honda has been thinking but I finally got rid of the car which will end up in an auction the dealer would not even sell it- so whoever gets it from an auction, I hope they know how to fix cars because it's always going to be something with that van. I can truly say I hated the experience with that Honda and I will NEVERRR in my life purchase another Honda, or even deal with a private owner, especially that one. I hope anyone who is looking for a Honda Odyssey, rethink it especially if it's an older model, PLEASE DON'T DO IT!

Overall, it's been a great experience and the Honda Odyssey has been super reliable for us. I absolutely love the sliding doors! With two small children, it makes getting out of the house so much easier! I love that I can open the side doors or back hatch with the push of a button and the DVD player has been a lifesaver! I love all of the extra room that we have as well and it has been a blessing with my side jobs. Although it is an awesome family car, I wish there was a DVD player for rear facing children's seats so that my youngest could enjoy that feature on long trips, right now we use a portable DVD player to keep him entertained when travelling long distances. My only complaint is quite a bit of rust that is forming below the rear window. We do live in a snow belt area that sees a lot of snow through the winter and the vehicle is a 2009, but I've never had a car rust like this. My husband also has a 2009 (Acura TL) but his car shows no rust so far.

The Honda Odyssey is a wonderful car, perfect for our triplets. We purchased this vehicle when I was pregnant with our triplet girls in April of 2016. I was close to having them and we figured that we were far enough along in viability that we would probably actually be taking home three babies. Not a lot of women who are pregnant with triplets actually come home with three babies. So it was time to purchase a super safe vehicle that would hopefully last us a decade or so. I had a Honda Civic that was eleven years old and still running like a champ so we felt very comfortable and secure with the decision to look at another Honda on this occasion. My husband has worked in the automotive industry for the majority of his life so it was an easy decision to allow him to be the head of this project. He did most of the research and he narrowed it down to about three models but really it was just between the Honda and the Toyota Sienna.

The idea of getting me to the dealership was a whole other issue besides the fact that I had not been able to drive and then the months because I was absolutely enormous. We looked over all of the features together and he went ahead and test drove all of the models himself. Then he reported back to me what he liked and didn't like and since I trusted him very much and he knows me very well, I felt that his opinion of which vehicle would be easier for me after the delivery was probably the best one. And of course he let me choose the color :-). And I love the dark grey color that we chose. We had a lot of money to put down thankfully but the price was still so much more attractive with the Honda. The salespeople were all really really nice at our Honda dealership and they made the experience really simple for us which was important because our lives were extremely stressful and busy at that point.

We just had no idea what day the girls would be arriving and I was practically immobile. When I did finally go into labor, I was about as comfortable as I could be in the passenger seat completely reclined. The price is definitely a good value and we had a good experience at the dealership as well. There are plenty of cup holders and many compartments for whatever you need. The sound system is great and the seat warmers are a nice touch. The recent recall is a bit of a pain in the neck. Other than that, extremely satisfied.

This car also got the best gas mileage out of the vans that we looked at and seemed like a much more economical choice when we made our decision to purchase. I also liked the roominess in the foot areas and the choices we had for the different interiors. Safety features, the backup camera was ideal and the side camera makes a really big difference, especially when I am driving on the freeway. I don't like using the lane departure feature much but my husband does when he drives. However, I do really like the alarm that goes off when I am too close to the car in front of me. That has been very helpful in a few instances when I have been distracted or just sort of zoned out. When you have three toddlers in the car it's not easy to be completely focused on the road unfortunately.

Another feature that is really nice is how simple it is to remove the captain chairs if needed. We have to do this often because our triplets are still required to be rear facing for a few more weeks and we can't fit them three across in the back row rear facing, only front facing. So removing the side captain chair makes it sooo much easier to load and unload the two in the back row. We got a pretty basic model because our kids are still really young so we didn't need a fancy entertainment pack.

The way that the heat and air conditioning system resets every time you turn the car off and the default setting that it turns back on to is kind of a hassle. Maybe it's just a personal preference but I don't really appreciate that I have to re-sync the temperatures every time I turn the car on. I also don't like the fact that it defaults to venting both your feet and your face? I just find that sort of odd and it's also a hassle. I do like the fact that I can sync the back temperature when my children are back there but that I can turn it off if there are adults in the back so that they can have their own temperature control. That is a very nice feature.

I also like that there are numerous vents in the back because I have three children in car seats and car seats can get quite warm especially here in sunny Southern California. So it's nice to know that my children are getting in the air conditioning to be safe and comfortable in the summer and also the heat necessary in the two months that we pretend to have winter here LOL. It would have been nice if the navigation system would have been a little bit more reasonable to purchase. Especially because in California it is super Duper illegal to be on your phone in any capacity while you're driving. So that makes it difficult to use your phone for navigation in lieu of having a navigation installed directly into your vehicle.

I bought this 2005 Honda Odyssey used in 2007. It replaced a previous Odyssey which had simply aged out. It can carry 8 passengers or a load of farm supplies and I find that this model is the only one that has sufficient knee room under the steering column. It has top notch performance and durability and has given me excellent service with few maintenance problems. Also, it is comfortable and gives pretty good gasoline mileage. The leather upholstery has held up well and I really appreciate the heated driver's seat and seat back. The front passenger seat is also heated. Otherwise it will just crap out and die in you. This has happened to me. But I love the spaciousness and leather seats. It does great on gas mileage. It drives smoothly and overall it's a great vehicle. I just wish it had a better sound system. However, we have an issue with it not staying lock after being picked up. Also, I would had some storage to the seats and remote control doors. I have a 2016 Honda Odyssey which is the 2nd one I leased (first was a 2012) because I loved it and the safety that provided to me and my wee ones. Last week on Wednesday my daughter and I were driving, and she's still in a car seat as she's a very small 6 yr old, and as I slammed on my brakes to avoid a collision the second row seat which held her car seat unlatched from the floor and flung her (in her car seat) full face into the passenger seat in front of her. She screamed, started crying as she was scared and her face was hurt.

I was in utter shock and disbelief and didn't know how that could happen. Once out of the car, I checked it and sprang it forward and forced it down super hard to hear all the clicks on the floor. All seemed good. Sunday I was driving my son (4 yrs old) home from a play date, and a car cut me off with barely any stopping distance between and slammed on my brakes again. This time it was he who was flung face forward into the back fo the passenger seat. Screaming in pain as he actually hit the top of his head on the metal part of the neck rest which was pulled up for my husband.

Today I open my mail and find there is a safety recall for this EXACT thing! But when I read it and call the number provided, they tell me that there aren't any parts available yet, but will notify me when they are available. UMMM so what do I do to cart my kids around and protect them from facial trauma in $30K vehicle? No one has an answer to that question or even a suggestion as to how they will help. So my view of Honda and this vehicle went from 10 stars to 2 thinking I should give it a 1 to show how sick to my stomach I am about this entire situation.

The first incidents were a result of a malfunctioning compressor relay. Today all the electrics died while doing 60mph and the engine shuttered, our speed dropped and it would not accelerate more than a few miles per hour even with the RPMs being over 3,000. Extremely unsafe vehicle that can put you and your family in danger on the highway.

Van (2010 Honda Odyssey) has 74K miles, seventh (7) set of tires and fourth (4) battery. Honda dealer after Honda dealer, as well as tire dealers and mechanics, laugh when I say it's X number of tires. The tires wear from the inside out, balance/alignments are done to no avail. Inspection is due in the fall, and I am fairly confident, I am looking at another set of four (4) tires. Oh joy (said no one ever!).

On to battery, from the get-go, I have had electric issues, I'd come out from work at midnight to a dead battery, get a jump, I'm good for some time. But then WHAM! it wouldn't hold a charge. Back to dealers I go. Leave work tonight, no lights on. Off I go to take kids to practice and the battery light appears, rain coming down in buckets, but the battery is so low, the wipers are not moving as they should; all power sources are OFF at this point. When I finally make it home, open the hood to find the corrosion galore. I'm so over this car. I purposely bought a Honda as I figured if I need a van, I want a top-rated one. Well, I certainly learned my lesson. Any additional suggestions or comments are welcome. And to note, I come from a car/mechanic family, but even this is beyond those folks.:-(

Like Michael, Marla and Karen below, our issue is with the darned doors! Overall the Odyssey is a great vehicle, but the faulty automatic door mechanism is such a huge safety hazard! Not only are both doors on my own vehicle now defective, but almost every other Odyssey owner I run into reports having the same problem. The mechanic at the Honda dealership who removed the mechanism from the passenger side door for us said he has had more than one instance of the doors falling off on people trying to get their kids out of the car, which scares the bejeezus out of me every time I find myself having to force the door open myself!

At the moment our driver's side door is frozen shut, and I won't allow my kids to touch it... They're getting in and out through the passenger side (since there's no more auto mechanism on that side) and I have to buckle my four year old into his car seat through the window. I resent having to pay money to fix this issue. It's a big safety issue and there should have been a recall on this model years ago! Toyota did the right thing by recalling the automatic door system on the Sienna for the same reason... I guess Toyota cares more about their customers being squished by falling doors or being trapped in an accident more than Honda does. Next time perhaps we'll go with a Toyota.

Honda Odyssey has come to slip on quality - perhaps since their move from Japan to Canada or other. On my 2004 Odyssey vehicle, a number of issues were seen to-date including - engine mounts to have gone bad, gears don't engage past 3 miles of driving and a number of other components to have simply gone dysfunctional. Gear disengage and loss of power during driving is a major safety issue and with users at large of Honda vehicles in general, experiencing the transmission related issues, the quality of Honda vehicles was seen to have degraded over the past 15 years whereas, prior to that, the quality of the vehicles was noted to be superior.

Seems like the company to have given into early gain/savings temptation with certain compromise on quality of parts and function while passing related burden/cost downstream to its consumer base. Needless to say if gone unaddressed, this will lead traditional Honda loyal customers to shift their purchases to other manufacturers, over time.

I went to the dealer and they told me that it's a manufacturing issue and they can't help me with this. The Honda representative looked at it and they gave me the option of body shop and repaint that whole area. They are not guaranteeing that the issue will not reappear in future or it will be completely fixed. Honda manager told me on the phone that the third party will fix this and if not fixed well, they will redo the same thing. This is my first new car purchase and I am not at all happy with this option of sending this new car to a body shop to repaint and live with that in mind. I tried to get the better options but they never gave me any other option and my family is completely upset with this new purchase in 2016.

Finally I decided to trade in with the same dealer for other new Van and paid extra $4500 to take this issue out of my mind. Overall our Honda experience is not at all good and we have suffered a lot with this issue. I am surprised how this issue is not noticed through the Honda Manufacturing inspection and I am facing the problem at the end of the day losing more money.

So we paid deductible on our 3rd party warranty. Now at 39000 miles the engine light and traction control light came on. Beyond all the recalls we have had to do, we have also had the battery die on us multiple times. We changed out the battery per dealership, and the problem still continued. Seemed to be some electrical issue. Van is now at 120K and I am now experiencing a knocking issue in the engine. Not something you want to hear when this is your main family vehicle. The first a 1988 Accord LX, I put almost 250,000 miles on it and other than normal maintenance (tires, brakes, oil changes, plugs, wires, cap) I literally had to do nothing on it. At 240,000, I had to replace the starter. It was a Standard 5 speed and never had to replace the clutch (Which pretty much shows how gentle I am on cars.)

Now, 2004 Odyssey LX with a multitude of problems. Around 60,000 miles, needed to start replacing motor mounts. The sliding center doors started becoming a problem to open after 50,000 miles. The rear electric vent windows stopped opening at around 50,000 miles. The transmission (a known problem that Honda refuses to acknowledge) burned up at 125,000 miles (a $4,000 replacement at a Honda dealership out of town, since I was traveling.)

A year later, when I had the vehicle inspected, I was told by my local dealership that the transmission mount bolts were missing. Huh!!!! Initially they quoted me a price of $150 to replace them, until I put up a hissy fit that the transmission was replaced a year prior by a Honda dealership. Pretty much all the lights on the center dashboard have burned out (radio, clock, heater controls.) After 70,000 miles the shift lever has constantly begun sticking, precipitating sticking a key in the lock removal on many occasions.

I have 164,000 miles on the van now and have needed to replace the battery 4 times. And just now went out to start the vehicle, and it appears the starter (or solenoid) needs replacing. Now, I expect that vehicles need to be maintained and parts replaced, but this... is really just too much. I'm now at over 1,400 letter character count on this comment and they say the recommended minimum is 200. Obviously they've never owned a Honda Odyssey.

After stopping and checking things out, it was discovered that a small hose had burst and as antifreeze was added to the radiator, it would leak out. 2008 Honda Odyssey - End of September - Early October, my family and I were en route from VA to NY to attend my father-in-law's funeral that evening. Things were as normal with the van until near Aberdeen, MD, when the van began to 'rumble' and the check engine light came on. There was also a loss of power, and when I throttled to increase speed the car rumbled even more. Basically, the van felt like it was misfiring.

The issue occurred just after a rest area on I-95 N. I turned off the engine for a bit because I knew we were dealing with a problem. We decided to ride to nearest exit and locate a mechanic. We found one who immediately identified the cause: cylinder 5's (front of engine) spark plug was loose and was blowing combustion through and melted the coil. The mechanic ordered a new coil and plug and installed the new parts. We were off again. The van seemed to run normally...

We had the same issue again, this time about 1 hour later, near Barrington NJ. Again, we were fortunate to find a mechanic who was as honest as they come (John's Auto Service). After he looked into the situation, he determined the cylinder head needed replacing (he showed me using a camera). Cylinder 5 was the source of the problem again! This time there was no longer any threading for the plug and the opening itself was pretty much melted away due to the heat from the combustion. The new parts that were installed were also severely damaged, worse than the first instance. In the end we left the van with the mechanic because we had no other alternative. We rented a car and continued to NY to get to the funeral.

Fast forward: After $3.3K later, we submitted our expenses to the Honda Dealership and are waiting to hear back from them on whether they will pay for any of the expenses. To be clear: We did standard oil changes and took the van in for recall related reasons, so we did our part to maintain the car. The plugs did not need changing based on manufacturer recommendation. This suggests either a manufacturer defect existed, or the dealership failed to do their due diligence when they sold us the vehicle.

We bought the van used and still have 3 years left on the note! I'm so disappointed because I expected more from the product than this. I will never buy another Honda again. I feel they're just interested in producing sub par products now in the interest of bottom line and shareholders. I will also not recommend and will let friends and family know not to buy a Honda as well. Stay away from them at all costs!

The warranty company is another major problem for us because they don't want to accept responsibility either (they technically don't have to do anything but it's just wrong that we have been left with no recourse). Other details: Van was bought used. An extended warranty was purchased. While the van was in my hometown it was within warranty (miles and years). Where the van broke down (approx. 220 miles later), it exceeded coverage. We never changed the plugs, yet something caused the plug to loosen and fail. The warranty company essentially said Honda is aware there's a 'problem' with the engine but Honda isn't acknowledging it; they're preferring to stick with the standard 'recall' ** instead. Honda is also blaming us for not taking it to one of their dealerships (like we had any control over where we broke down, not to mention a Honda warranty was not in effect). We currently have a case open with Honda to see what they will do about this situation; I'm not hopeful to say the least

The Honda was the biggest, most solid, had the best options and were consistently in the best shape compared to Toyota and Dodge/Chrysler vans. I still think they may make the best minivan although I will never own one again. I bought a 2006 with 90K miles for about 10K. After owning it a week the battery died. The replacement battery worked great for a week. Then the starter died. The starter was replaced then after a 10 minute drive home I parked the car and went inside. Minutes later the van was on fire and the whole engine burned up. The van is a loss. So who knows what happened. No one. The van had something going on with the electrical system that caused the fire. Anyway, like I said I still think they are great vans but beware when yours starts to have starting issues.

I have read other Odyssey owners with the same issues! Driving home from Cape May on the Garden State Parkway, doing 70mph our Honda's dash signals all started flashing, the radio cut off the DVR cut off etc. This continued constant flashing and then the speedometer dropped from 70 to 0 with a slight shudder and then nothing. It was almost like the computer was going through a cycle and then re-setting while driving. It was the scary, I didn't know if the car was going to die on me or what.

We were lucky enough to make it back to our dealership who looked at it for two days. The error code they got was pointing at a "failure to communicate" error. They re-booted the computer systems, charged us $115 bucks and told us all was well. 2 weeks later my dash warning lights are flashing again....I called Honda USA and basically they told me to bring it back to the dealership. These companies care more about their bottom lines than the lives of your precious families. Don't buy from Honda!

The Honda service lady initially was sympathetic to my situation and agreed that this would be indeed concerning. Then, after returning to the line a couple minutes later, simply said that the warranty had expired (only 7 years paint coverage) & there was nothing she could do but note my complaint. Honda *does* know this is a fault in their paint, and isn't standing behind their reputation of selling cars that last. NO CAR should have its paint spontaneously FALL OFF.

For the past few years, I've had a constant battery drain, having to jump the battery a few times a week. My mechanic identified the problem to the fueling-door power release. Once he disconnected this, the power door was operating for the first time in 5+ years! Now, after 6 months of having my sliding door operating again, a new problem has appeared: the power door opens itself while I'm driving! It now also won't lock appropriately, no matter what I try. My daughter picked up our 2010 Honda Odyssey following a power steering pump repair. She got about 3 km from the dealership when she noticed smoke and fire coming from under the hood. She immediately pulled over and exited the vehicle. A passerby saw her in distress and called 911. The fire department arrived and was able to put out the engine fire. Fortunately, she was not physically injured as a result of this engine fire. The dealership says the engine fire is not related to the power steering repair. Honda was contacted.

Honda says it was caused by an "unidentified foreign object" that entered the engine compartment, started a fire, and then left without a trace. Honda could not provide any examples or scenarios that could explain what happened. However, an independent fire investigator has indicated that the fire was not caused by a UFO. In fact, it started in the lower front of the engine, at or near the alternator. There was extensive damage to the engine compartment and electrical wiring. Honda has not been cooperative in helping to sort out and resolve this problem.

Needless to say, when the Honda part air filter is put in there it would not fit properly, leaving air pockets on either side of the compartment and dirt to go in when you drive. This cause waste of gas and air filter to get dirty very fast soon after you replace it with brand new one from Honda dealer. The result is that the next time (as soon as 1 or 2 weeks) after you visit Honda again, they ask you to replace the air filter and you have to pay again. There has been a persistent problem with the battery drain on our 2005 Honda Odyssey. The battery is fine, but something in the system apparently keeps draining the battery. After setting the interior light switch to "Off," unplugging the radio, turning off the seat warmers and even switching the automatic door openers to "off" there is still a persistent problem with the battery being dead if the vehicle is left more than overnight. Honda has offered to begin replacing components one by one at my costs to see if that will solve the issue.

They agree that something is draining the battery and that it shows up on their tests, but they can't determine precisely what it is. The issue is solved if the battery cable is disconnected, but this is obviously an unsatisfactory solution to what would seem to be a small problem. The passenger side sliding door may be connected to the issue as there are times when it simply won't close properly. Looking up the problem online the solution begins with disconnecting the battery to reset the system.

This past weekend, we were driving on the Ohio Turnpike when our 2007 Honda Odyssey suddenly lost all power. We were traveling at approximately 70 mph when all of the interior lights, including the check engine light, started flickering and the car started bucking and shuddering. Luckily we were in the right hand lane and we were able to pull over on the shoulder, where the car died. Immediately, all of the lights began to dim and were completely off within 30 seconds. Unfortunately, this also included flashers. So, we were stuck on the side of the very dark road with no flashers, as traffic continued to whiz by at 80 mph. NOT GOOD!!

We had to have the car towed to the Honda dealer in Elyria, Ohio, who replaced the battery and the alternator. A similar thing happened less than a year ago. We were driving on a side street at approximately 25-30 mph when the interior lights began flickering and the car started bucking and shuddering, but as we happened to be right in front of our local Honda dealer, we were able to drive it to the service department where they replaced the battery and the alternator.

This is in addition to the frequent problems we have had with the battery. We have learned to carry jumper cables at all times (- if you leave the tailgate open too long (more than a minute or two) the battery will die and have to be jump started, if God forbid one of the kids leaves on an interior light the battery will be dead when you return to the car and sometimes it just randomly dies if you have to shut off the car when running errands).

Six months ago, we purchased a used 2010 Honda Odyssey from a local dealer (with a relatively good reputation). We have had at least four occasions when the battery was dead and the car had to be jumpered. Three of those occasions the jumpering was done by AAA where they tested the battery and charging function and found no problem. The dealer has checked the car over and could find no problem. The car had a new battery installed by the dealer when they were prepping the car for sale. The battery looks new and the terminals are very clean so I have no reason to believe that it was not a new battery. But the car has failed to start, once when just overnight in our garage, and once when my wife was waiting in a parking lot for about 20 min. with the ignition off but the accessory switch on.

So far the dealer has suggested that "the car will go dead with only a few minutes if the accessory switch is on (well, what's the accessory switch for anyway?)." The solution is to "change your driving habits" (Really??!!). It looks like many others have had a similar problem but I have not yet found a real answer. At the moment the car is back with the dealer but I am not optimistic.

Last summer, 2012, we noticed a one inch patch of paint peeling between the front windshield and moon roof. We immediately took it into the local Honda dealership whose body shop confirmed it was a signature defective paint issue that Honda had issued a recall on but for only dark blue paint, not white paint... yet. They also identified several other places on the roof and side doors that had a similar signature of defective paint commonly experienced with blue paint. HOWEVER, when the dealership called Honda America, Honda America would not admit that the white paint also had a problem and would not fix it under warranty even though their own Honda body shop claimed it is a defective paint job! I called them as well to understand why they would not honor their own body shop experts analysis that the paint was defective.

Their response was they were only warranting blue paint, not white. When asked what was the specific difference between the white and blue paint when both are delaminating from the car, they said they had no reply. We patched the paint but one year later, during a long 12-hour drive, we arrived at our destination with 3 more 3" wide by 5" high strips of paint completely delaminated from the roof! With classic car enthusiasts and restorers in the family, we keep our cars in excellent shape with professional grade products for inside and outside, including yearly detailed waxing. Clearly, this is a result of defective paint. Given the amount of websites, complaint posts, etc. dedicated to defective paint in less than 5 years, Honda America should be held accountable. Allowing them to continue operation in the US with known defective issues they will not take responsibility for is fraudulent business practices. In reading the manual, it had directions on how to obtain the code but we were never successful.

I went to the dealership to see if they could assist and after searching by VIN, he said the only way they would be able to find the code was by pulling the dashboard. I've searched the Honda website and the advice that was given has not worked for our vehicle. I know this isn't a safety issue but it is a very irritating issue. I have a 2009 Honda Odyssey that I purchased brand new with the original battery installed. Around the 50k mark, I started experiencing issues with the battery where I would need a jump start to get it going. I had taken my Odyssey in for a B1 service at Ken Dixon Honda located in Waldorf, MD. After the service was completed, myself and my wife were going to head out when all of a sudden the battery issue started again, click, click, click and luckily, ** was there to witness the battery issue. ** had placed the battery on a machine and charged it. After charging the battery, he placed it on a machine to see if it would hold the charge. It was showing that it was holding a charge.

After that time, we had experienced several more battery starting issues and I or my wife had brought the car in for the B1 service and indicated at that time the battery should be tested again because of the issues we were still having. All three times after the initial first one, Honda indicated that nothing was wrong with the battery even though they had to charge it. My wife had brought the car in the other 3 times and they explained to her that the battery wasn’t showing a failure on the tester again even though they had to charge it.

Just the past weekend, 8/17 /2012, I had to bring the car in to Ken Dixon Honda again to have the battery checked because it had failed again hours before and I had to get a jump start for it to get enough juice to get to the dealership. This time I experienced a new tech “**” and he explained to me that because of the case history on it that something was draining the battery. He stated that Honda’s have a known issue with the AC relay staying on while car is turned off and that this might be generating the intermitting issues with the battery.

He proceeded to place the battery on a battery tester. This time the battery tester came back with an error code - I believe the code was GR8 or something to that affect. He then stated that he would need to place the battery on a different tester and that it could take from 20 minutes to 2 hours. After around 1.5 hours, he came back and stated that the tester showed a bad cell in the battery and that my battery warranty period had lapsed over two months. With that said, he could not warranty the battery but he felt 90% sure that after he brought this up to the District Manager that it would probably be warrantied. He also indicated to me that the cost of the new battery would be $139.

After hearing that, I explained to him that I could get the same battery from Auto Zone for $95 with the exact same ratings as the battery he wanted to install. He again made me feel sure that it would be warranted because of the previous issues I had when the battery was under warranty. With that assurance I agreed to have the factory battery installed and would wait until the following week to hear back with the results.

Ken Dixon Honda got back to me the following week and explained to me that because the battery didn’t indicate a failure during the times that I had brought it in, they couldn’t warranty the battery. The Service Manager “**” recommended that I speak with the Regional Manager from American Honda, **. She would provide her last name but her contact number is 1800-999-1009 **. I called American Honda to voice my complaint and the in-taker took my complaint and information and indicated someone would be getting back with me shortly which was **.

After communicating with ** “unsuccessfully”, **’s customer service skills are terrible and does not allow the person to explain their version of what took place instead she talks over you and doesn’t listen to what you have to say as long as she gets her views and point across. I tried to explain to her that I had brought my battery in to Ken Dixon Honda several times because of the battery issue and she just kept repeating herself stating and I “When you brought the battery into the dealership while under warranty, it did not produce any failure codes and because of that, I will not warranty the battery”.

Needless to say, I was pissed off and will not advise purchasing a Honda because though they may make some good vehicles, when it comes to customer service they get one star and that only comes from **, the tech from the dealership, not from American Honda’s reps. I will never purchase another Honda as long as I shall live nor will I encourage anyone to purchase a Honda.

In 2006, I purchased a 2003 Honda Odyssey. I purchased the van from a private party, who was the original owner. The vehicle has been very dependable. And I have liked it very much. Late in 2010, a few paint chips began to appear. And by January of 2010, every surface of the vehicle was showing signs of peeling paint. I called Honda customer service. I was told to take it to a Honda dealer. The nearest dealer is 85 miles away, Van's Honda in Green Bay Wisconsin. They examined the van and took pictures of all of the many areas affected. They said they could do nothing, but that Honda customer service would contact me.

I got a call from Gus at ** ext **. He said he would need time to get the report from Van's. He called back a week later. He said that he hadn't heard from them yet but would call me in another week. A week later, he called and said that he had gotten the pictures from Van's, that it was a faulty paint job, and there had been an extended warranty which expired in June of 2010. He said Honda would do nothing to help me. But he said that should I choose to trade it in on a new vehicle, Honda would give me great treatment. I explained that I had never received any notice of the extended warranty from Honda. And the problem had not even appeared until well after the extended warranty had expired. He said that while he could understand my frustration, they would do nothing to assist me.

I purchased a 2002 Honda Odyssey in July 2004 and in the last seven years, I've had to replace the transmission twice--very expensive.

Supposedly, the transmission was replaced or inspected by the dealership in July 2004 due to a recall, but we were not informed of this when we bought it two weeks later. We had no idea of the recall. Had we known, we wouldn't have bought the car.

In 2007, new transmission was needed; in 2011, another new transmission was needed. I called Honda and they said it had been too long since I bought it, so it wasn't covered under warranty. I asked why I was not informed of the recall when I bought the car, and I was told that they will only provide that information if requested.

I will not buy another Honda.

My wife purchased a new 2003 Honda Odyssey based on the alleged quality of the vehicle. What a joke! In less than 24 mos. the van started to make squeaking and whining noises and the auto doors started to stick and not close. The dealership said they fixed the issues but the problems reappeared after less than a year. We took it back and they told us that because the vehicle is no longer under warranty they would not be able to help us and that it would be at our expense if we wanted it fixed. In addition, during the third year all of the leather panels on the doors began to fall off. Again, they told us it was no longer under warranty so it was not their problem. The icing on the cake was when the piece of plastic that covers the right turn signal and warning lights fell off. Didn't hit a bump or anything, it just fell off while my wife was driving down a smooth stretch of road. Took it to the dealership and they offered to fix it for $400.00. Why $400.00, because it wasn't under warranty. Now when a warning light comes on we need to open the owners manual to see what the issue is because we refuse to pay $400.00 to re-attach a piece of plastic. The doors have gotten worse and now not only do they stick but the interior light flicker like strobe lights. The kids find it amusing but it has become a true source of anger for my wife. Today, my wife had to take the van back to the dealership because of an oil leak that we were told was fixed during her last oil change. Surprise! time to replace the oil pan and your guesed it, not under warranty. Another 5 hour visit to the dealership with 3 kids and a bill for $385.00. I noticed on the new 2008 Vans and cars they have a protection on the front now. But thats not fair for all the people who have purchased a van or car 2007 or earlier. I think that they should have a recall on this matter and fix the problem. I didnt pay $30,000.00 for a van to have this problem. They need to put some kind of protection on the van so it doesnt happen again. I just want to let all other consumers beware of this so they dont make the same mistake we did. I did that and the service advisor said that i need to pay for the service because the warranty just expired and it is not covered by the warranty anyway. He also said that the belt broke because something went in to the alternator.

He also said that i don't have the document to prove that i went to Honda dealership in San Juan Capistrano. American Honda Case Manager said that it was misdiagnosed by Ford Dealership. This was not true, Ford dealership was so kind to help me and they did not diagnose the van but they help us put on the belt and the nut just to reach our destination.

Honda Service Center has a very poor customer service and inconsiderate. They are not listening to what the customer is saying. My van is only 2 1/2 yrs old and alternator broke already. The manager of Penske Honda, Ontario is involved and supposedly working on options for me but I believe it will be a trade in and I don't want to have another car payment, or go into debt because of a bad car. I am not in the position to purchase a car at present (or have a payment) so unless there will be something without out of pocket expenses Im not sure I can go with it. I asked if they could just warantee the car another 100,000 miles but they say that they have never done that. I know there are companies out there that offer that and I don't think it would be extrememly costly to them.

I just want a good car that will last 200,000 miles plus as I thought I had purchased. Is there any options that you feel I could pursue? thank you for your time

Faulty sliding doors on Odyssey Minivan (2000 LX model). This appears to be a very common problem that they should have addressed via recall. These doors stick to the point that you end up pulling the door handle clear off the car. That's not right.

Stress and strain of having to wrestle these doors open. Plus, repair costs and time spent fixing what amounts to some sort of design flaw on the part of Honda.

Have a 1999 odyssey and have had numerous problems not caused by me. It has 147k miles on it is on its 3rd transmission and now the dealer is telling me it needs a new engine that this one has a pourous block and it is leaking oil. Then they tell me you cannot even get a new engine for this particular car. But that a used one with a new timing belt would cost me $3500. This is the 7th, but the last Honda I will own. I have gotten the run around with so much.... they do not have mechanics at these dealerships, they have people who look at a computer screen. AND the computer has a default setting that blames the EGR valve for any problem it cannot figure out.

I cannot afford another vehicle, nor a motor and i was not able to be a part of the class action suit due to the fact that I had too many miles on my car.

On the new 2007 Honda Odyssey Touring Model they have what they call run-flat tires made by Michelin (PAX). You have no spare tire and if you have a flat it can only be repaired by a shop with the PAX equipment, which is basically no one except some dealerships. The problem is you better not be in a remote area or have a problem on the weekend because a regular tire shop CANNOT help you. You cannot change the tire yourself, a trained person with the specific equipment is the only one who can take the tire off the van!

This a big, inconvenient and EXPENSIVE problem. I recently had to have a flat repaired... I had to wait for an appointment at the dealership,I had to wait until the next day and was told it could be about $150 --- to fix a FLAT TIRE!!!! I ended up needing to have the tire replaced (a cost which is about $250)... it was covered under the warranty with Michelin. I told the dealership I wanted the tires OFF my car... I bought the van to transport my 3 children around (and do road trips) and could not run the risk of being stranded in a remote location with a flat tire no one could fix. Of course... this would entail having to replace the rims (wheels) and tires.

I do not believe Honda informed me as the consumer about the reality of issues and problems associated with having these special tires. I see these tires as a potential hazard to my personal safety (especially the safety of my children) because I run the risk of being stranded without a facility around that has the PAX equipment. I spoke to Michelin and they said if I were to be stranded in a remote location they would send a tire to me and pay for accommodations until the tire could be repaired. That is completely absurd!! Michelin has my name already & I have told them this a bad consumer product. I am seeking some assistance -- direction -- I feel Honda should assist me in getting these tires/rims replaced. If I had been properly informed how difficult it would be to maintain and service something a simple as a tire...

I would have not purchased this model of vehicle. Consumers need to be made aware of the risks and problems associated with these tires... A consumer should have some recourse to get tires off of the vehicle without a huge expense. I have told as many people I can NOT TO BUY a vehicle with Michelin-PAX system. It is not worth the hassle.

May of 2005, we purchased a Honda Odyssey Touring edition with Michelin Pax tires. At this time, we were not aware of the rapid, uneven wear of the tires or the expense to replace them. We've also since dicovered that the tires are worthless in the snow. (We live in Montana) To purchase compatible snow tires would be appr. $800.00 for the tires, plus $300/year to have them swapped out. There is no all season option. We considered replacing with standard tires, but were told by both Michelin and Honda that this would voud our warranty.

We have a 2000 Honda Odyssey Van and we love it except for the doors. Every time it is cold, the doors stick and they open just enough to turn on the lights. Therefore, I have become an expert on jump starting my car. I'll ask another woman to help me jump start my car and she'll say, "Do you have jumper cables," and I'll say, "Yes, I've done this many times (12 or more)". And then she'll say, "Do you know how to do this," and I'll say, "Yes, I've done it numerous times." One time my 11-year-old son pulled so hard that the door handle broke off. I paid to get this repaired since we were stationed in Belgium and apparently Honda Europe and Honda USA don't communicate when it comes to fixing service members cars. I am tired of jump starting my car because of the door problem. I just want someone at Honda to admit that there is a problem and fix it. We have had Honda Accords and Civics and we love Honda, but when an error has been made, someone needs to take responsibility for it.

I just bought a 2004 Odyssey and made my first payment on June 1, 2004. After 45 days of ownership, the back-bench seat folded and collapsed in the trunk hole with my 16 year old daughter's arm - from her elbow caught between the trunk and the seats. She was in there for over one hour. Tracy Fire Department and Paramedics had to take the seat out from the bolt to free her arm.

I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey which has had a problem with sticky sliding doors for the last year. Several months ago we actually broke the door handle because it took so much force to open the door. I could see that a small plastic piece within the door mechanism had broken. We can now only open the door from the inside. A week ago, the other door broke in the same fashion. It is going to cost us $360 to fix the door handles since we are out of our warranty period.

My research on the internet shows that there are several other people with the same complaints of sticky or broken doors. I called Honda Consumer Relations and they act as if they have never heard of this problem.

I have a 1999 Honda Odyssey van and just read the consumer complaint about the passenger sliding doors sticking. I too have had this problem several times, and also broke the door handle off because of the stress it endured. If the van wasn't at the dealer with door problems, it was having brakes repaired- - at 20,000, then 30,000, then 56,942 miles, and all the time I was told by mechanics that it's to be expected. I definitely didn't have those problems in the lower priced Dodge Caravan that I've had twice.

The latest problem now, at 72,300 miles, is that I need a whole new transmission. I don't get it. Again, in all the cars I've ever owned, this has needed the most work at the lowest mileage. Anyone else with the same complaints? Any suggestions for dealing with Honda?
