I have noticed EXACTLY EVERYTHING on the 99-06 recall list is going wrong with my Tahoe. However... MY Tahoe's VIN number is not ON this list. SOME situations should be paid for by Chevrolet. Like as in... I take it to a dealer... and they be the judge on if it needs to be recalled. Because eventually... it can't be everybody else. There's too much coincidence for it to just be coincidence.

Chevy Tahoe and Suburban are the most dependable, but are changing to cheaper quality. I have owned three and put over 300,000 miles on each and have never been to the shop.

I love my Chevy Tahoe LTZ. I have owned my Tahoe since Sept., 2016 and have never had any problems with it at all. The Tahoe provides me with power when needed, plenty of room for my family, and the luxury that a heavier vehicle provides. I would highly recommend a Chevy Tahoe to anyone.

I want to love my 2015 Tahoe, but I feel like things just keep going wrong with it. As it becomes summer, my AC started blowing warm air. Took it to a mechanic and was told that they have a leak in the compressor and would be over $700 to fix. It is shaky when idling and feels like it wants to kill. Mechanic said nothing is wrong with it but they have heard lots of complaints from Tahoe owners saying the same thing. I have never had so many problems so quickly. I want to love this car because I love the look and spaciousness, but is it really worth all of the problems??? Probably not.
And lastly, when parking in a parking garage, if I am going slightly downhill to park on one of the down ramps, the brakes seem to lock up and I have to practically push the pedal through the floor to get it to stop. I have to then kill my car and turn it back on for them to work properly again. I am terrified to park every day, but again the mechanic said they can find nothing wrong with it! HOW SAFE IS THIS?!

I bought a 2009 Tahoe Hybrid in 2013. I have been having lurching/stalling issues for 2 years with automatic acceleration. The oil pressure sensor is bad. The paint is peeling on the steering wheel. The check engine light is on. Stalling with power steering light. Bluetooth no longer connects. Power seats will not adjust. I have spent thousands on repairs that don't fix the problems. Mechanic has now told me not to spend anymore on it as it is unfixable. I have a car that I am still making payments on that has lights and warning bells going off nonstop. Reading online, my experience is not unique for this vehicle. There are 85 TSBs for this model! Is there a recall or will Chevy acknowledge this model is a lemon? I've owned 8 Chevies and never had an experience like this before!

Super excited to buy this 2015 Chevy Tahoe, but right after the warranty expired things started going wrong. Our Chevy Tahoe story began when the engine started idling rough at stops, then the interior lights started flickering when you press on the brakes. Next came the brakes... the car wouldn't stop! Took it to the dealer and our service technician said these were a simple fixes. Replace the light bulbs and the brake valve pump oh, and BTW... oil has leaked into the brake lines (that costs extra). Then he says the navigation system antenna isn't connecting to the GPS and oh, the window panel on the outside driver's door is loose too (needs to be replaced - more money). Now we're looking at over $2,500 in repairs (did I mention this vehicle is only 3 years old?). We love this vehicle, but I will never buy this another Chevy or GMC product again. Sticking with Toyota.

The appearance of my Tahoe is awesome, or at least I think so. Many people have commented on how pretty it is. The Tahoe has performed very well. I have not had any problems. As for the value, I certainly do believe it is overpriced as all the vehicles we looked at are. We looked at a lot of different makes. The automobile seems to think that it can make up lost money by overcharging everyone. I hope this will be the last car I ever have to buy. Believe me, I am taking extremely good care of it.

I bought a 2004 Z71 Chevy Tahoe back 6 years ago. It had low miles and I loved my Chevy Tahoe. Didn't really have any issues with it at all. All were minor. Did great service on my Tahoe including oil changes, tires rotation, balance etc. My Tahoe had low mileage for being a 2004, week ago me and my husband and a couple of my daughter’s friends were driving down the highway and started smelling smoke. Pulled over and realized my Tahoe was on fire. No warning no nothing. All we can think is it happened under the dash. Before we knew it was in fire. We popped the hood and smoke was coming from the fuse box. Not the one in the cab. We opened the lid and the fuses was melting.
Fireman don't know what caused this fire, can't really find any reviews with same issue, get the same outcome not knowing why this occurred. Very scared and would like to know if anyone can tell me why this would happen? I just recently bought a 2004 Cadillac Escalade ESV. I know this is the same type of brand and kind of eerie now because seeing that this could happen again with no warning. I loved my Tahoe but I’m not going to put my family at risk. Can anyone help us and is this a known issue that needs to be investigated?

To say the very least I am 100% disappointed and disgusted with my purchase of a 2015 Chevy Tahoe. I have previously owned 4 Chevy Tahoes and none of them have compared to the 2015 model. This vehicle has given my family and I numerous problems. How about driving down the road and the side panel of your door flying off into traffic. I would say that's a safety issue. How about being at a gas station far away from your hometown and the battery goes dead. By the way this vehicle is only 2 years old.
The air conditioner decides to start blowing hot air. It's only 100 degrees in Texas. The list goes on and on, on this high dollar GM vehicle. Oh did I mention how many times it's been in the shop and how many times GM service manager has told me that this is someone else's problem sending me back and forth between body shop and service. WHAT A JOKE!!! GM GET YOUR ** TOGETHER!!! Did I mention I now own a quality SUV and it's not a CHEVY!!!

I am TRULY disappointed with my 2015 Tahoe SUV. I bought it in 2015 at a Chevy dealership and Its already having AC issues. The dealership told me that I MUST order a new AC condenser, only available AFTERMARKET nationwide because the original part is coming from overseas and no matter what, it will cost me $1300, for a 2 years old car. WHO wants to drive a vehicle without AC in FL??? To make things worse, electronic problems, AC failure, already a new battery, and there is NO RECALLS.

2015 50k vehicle AC has gone out 2 times in 8 months. First time 8 months ago when vehicle was 1 1/2 yr old, told it was condenser and paid $700 to replace part and labor. 8 months later AC stops working again, take it back and told this time it is the Compressor and want $950 to replace. I am hosed because I have high freeway mileage, never any accidents, live in Pacific NW (low AC usage). Hundreds of people complaining about this same issue in the year range on internet. NW Chevy and GM refuse any assistance or responsibility in this clearly faulty part. AC should not be going out in a new and supposedly "quality" vehicle.

I drive a Chevy Tahoe 2014 Z71. The seat is constantly getting stuck. My dealer has been so great about fixing it but I'm so tired of taking it in and it's embarrassing when you have people ride with you and you're driving around with the pillow in your back because your seat won't move. I've had this car two years now and it continues to be a problem. The transmission clunks the door handle fell off. General Motors should be embarrassed.

The engine still has plenty of power and still looks very nice and is a complete joy to drive around and play in the sand. I've enjoyed this vehicle so much. I also have a 1999 GMC Yukon. They are basically the same vehicle. And both 4x4 models both are fun in the sun and sand.

I purchased a 2015 Tahoe LT with Luxury package. The vehicle's rough and GM's answer put shims in engine mounts. When that doesn't work, check shims as they fall out. When that doesn't work we will take a couple out. That's GM's answer. Took two long trips. Going one way with cruise and one w/o. I get 3 miles to the gallon better with my foot as in cruise it stays in V8 even on flat surfaces. No answer for that. When setting the memory seats to # 1 driver the seat goes back and the steering wheel goes up. When I unlock the door the seat moves to the drive setting making it harder to gain entry. If I open the door w/o having to unlock it the seat stays in the exit position and as you drive off you have to fumble with the # 1 button near the floor which is really great in the dark.
The ultimate headache is when you call customer service and get India who then tells you they will transfer you to the U.S. where the ultimate idiot is waiting and he tells you there is no support he or GM can give you other than to send you to the dealer you're having an issue with. I purchased a 2010 Tahoe with great expectations for my growing family. After having it for 5 months, I know better than to purchase GM again. Christmas Day we left to go to my family's house. There were some spots in the road with water. We drove through them. Mind you every car was driving through them even little cars. I would say the water was not higher than the middle of my rim on my tire. Shortly after I started having problems with the vehicle jerking. I took it to the shop and they said to change the oil and do a tune-up. During the inspection at NTB they noticed that the transmission dip stick was completely dangling from the transmission. They shoved it back into place and told me to get it checked. They do not do that type of work.
After a lot of research I found a recall on the dipstick. I purchased the Carfax and it had not been taken care of. I called GM and they offered pretty much nothing. Just a little bit to have it flushed at a dealership that did not even check to see if it had water in it. However I did not feel comfortable so I took it to the dealership that I purchased it from. They stated that they did not think it had water in there. They charged me to fix the recall and new spark plugs.
Finally after not getting any help I contacted my insurance and asked about flood damage. Remind you that the water I drove through was not a massive flood but I'm grasping at anything at this point. I had my insurance adjuster to go to the dealership and open the transmission. Guess what! Water!!! So since I cannot afford a $3700 transmission I had to file a claim. I had to pay out of pocket 1100.00. If the recall would have been taken care of, the water would not have been able to get inside. GM will not help me because it's the previous owner's fault for not handling it. The recall never showed on the vin because it was expired. I would have never purchased this vehicle. Nor will I buy GM again. Buyers beware. They will not assist you even if it's a recall that was not taken care of from a prior owner.

On May 28, 2015 I leased a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe from Enterprise Car Rental. Felt there could possibly be something different or wrong when first started driving it and my passenger seemed to feel it also. When you accelerated seemed like it wanted to lift up and start flying... Anyway you felt a certain lift in the vehicle. I made this comment to my passenger several times because of the strange feeling.
May 29th, I went to gas station close to home to replenish the fuel before returning to Enterprise Car Rental. When starting the Tahoe and putting it in gear it just literally jumped forward, a throttle like surge, and accelerated moving forward, accelerating faster and faster. At the same time had NO brakes at all to slow the vehicle. This all happened within about 50 feet of a railing boundary at end of lot. There was a lake on other side of railing, in trying to turn to avoid hitting railing or going into lake turned vehicle as hard as I could at the speed it was going. Tahoe jumped the railing, sliding down the railing into main electrical pole, activating the air-bags... Probably saving our lives or seriously hurting or killing someone else.
The insurance inspectors came back from their inspection with finding nothing wrong with Tahoe. I had a nationally known cattle business headquartered in Illinois for thirty-six years with cattle in Wyoming and South Dakota, traveling a lot back and forth there and to my customers and have had a very good driving record. The State Police were present at the accident scene and agreed something strange had to happen for this situation to present itself. Of course, went on my record and raised my insurance rate! if anyone inspected where this happened, the small area, they would agree there was something wrong with this Tahoe. And if anyone would think I was somewhat incapacitated... I have never had a beer, cigarette, or even a cup of coffee. Scariest moment of my life!

I have a 2003 and 2004 Tahoe. The brakes lines failed on both, in the same month. On one an accident was avoided by driving into an embankment. The other failed while pulling a trailer. I used the trailer drag and a field to stop the vehicle. Both were catastrophic brake system failures. Apparently, these brake lines were designed with non-weather protected steel which corrodes in non-visible crevices. And no dashboard light to warn of failure. The failure in both instances was complete, instantaneous and dire. We have 6 Chevy vehicles. Am disappointed in Chevy. This problem has been known to exist. Apparently Chevy exec bonuses are more important than my wife's life.

We bought a 2011 Chevy Tahoe in Dec. 2012 in Glenwood Springs, CO. We drove it all the way back to Florida with no problems. The Tahoe was like brand new when we purchased it and still is. We take very good care of our vehicles. The Tahoe has been garaged and kept out of the sun, even at work. Just recently noticed the crack in the dashboard. Very disappointing. Decided to go online and see what consumers had to say and even more disappointing is the fact that this seems to be a problem with the Chevy Tahoe since 2007 to the present.
Why hasn't Chevy offered to fix this problem? It is obvious that this is a defect in their product and they should be responsible for the repair. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We did buy an extended warranty on the vehicle since it was used and we intend to keep the vehicle for a long time. We bought our 2004 Chevy Tahoe with 116,000 miles on it and it's been the best vehicle up until about six months ago. Other than the required oil changes every 3000 miles or so I haven't had to replace anything. I've had a dead battery once or twice but that's it. Then six months ago my battery gauge went haywire and quit working. We smelt rubber burning pulled over but couldn't find anything. The battery gauge needle now lays on the opposite side of where it normally would sit or start from. It doesn't work anymore.
Then three months after that I could tell that we were going faster than speedometer read and of course I knew my truck and was right. When the truck shut off the speedometer never fell past ten miles per hour. So we unplugged the cable from under the truck on the side of the transmission and it started working again. I've had to do this about ten times because it messes up every so often. Now my oil gauge float from 40 to 20 to zero and the dash is constantly displaying oil pressure low, sometimes even beeping while going down the road as a warning to shut the engine down. Every time it's had oil in it.
We have replaced the oil sensor sending unit, changed the oil and filter and it is still doing it. Had O'Reilly's put the machine on it to see which codes it was throwing and the only code was for a knock sensor. The truck has been running bad using way too much gas getting poor gas mileage and sometimes acting as it wants to stall out or cut off but does it the most when I'm idling or sitting in a line with the air running full blast. It's not knocking but you can hear the valves rattling when you come up to a stop sign.
Right now my husband and I are trying to drop the oil pan to clean the screen because someone told us to put Lucas oil treatment and zMax in it at the same time. Well we did and the oil plug was caked with crud since we did. And after this the last thing to do is replace the oil pump with 220,330 miles on it. I hope we find the problem soon. This is our only vehicle and we keep replacing parts only for it to keep doing the same thing!!!
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. We decided to do the oil pump last because the guy at the part store said "you have to mess with the timing and all to get to the oil pump" and neither one of us have did that before. Please help!!! And does anyone have problems with the wiring on their Tahoe. The only other problem I forgot to mention was the front ac only works on five and you can hit a bump and it quits blowing so you have to reach under the dash in the passenger side floor board and wiggle the wires and it starts back blowing again. Please help us!!!

FIRST OFF, LET'S GET THIS STRAIGHT. If you buy a used car do your research people, ok. Don't rate a car one star just because you don't know how to overlook a rusted brake line, cracked dash, or other defects that is not Chevys fault. It’s the owners fault. Also you keep a car in SUNLIGHT EVERY DAY. It’s gonna crack dummy.
My first car was a 1995, Chevy Tahoe and I drove it hard and fast. It was the LS and it plowed through the snow like butter. My second was a 1999 Tahoe and that one was always just as dependable. I sold it to my father and now I have a 2008 and LOVING IT. Does great on the highway. It’s sporty looking and just recently yesterday drove it in a snow blizzard to test the 4x4. It passed in flying colors.
I took it to a mechanic to get a check up and the guy was like, “Oh, tahoes, they are great trucks!” He even had a guy bring one in that had 400,000 miles on the motor. Just recently watched a video of a denali supercharged hen which is pretty much a gmc tahoe deluxe. It raced a hellcat and beat it off the line. These are great trucks. Dependable and STRONG. I will always own a tahoe.

I purchased a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe new from the dealer and now have almost 91K miles on the car. It has been a pretty good car and I had considered buying another one in the near future; however, I am pretty disappointed with the quality of the entire dash in my car. Shortly after purchasing the car, the buttons on my climate control started to peel off as well as the coating (vinyl? plastic?) on my steering wheel near both the cruise control and volume controls. I had just had a baby and sitting inside a dealership with a newborn sounded like my worst nightmare, so I never addressed the problem. It has only gotten worse (which admittedly is partly my fault since it was likely under warranty when it first began).
Also, one of the covers to the power adapters on my dash just completely broke off - neither of which are used often. Then, just recently, I noticed two cracks on my dash. One is just above the instrument panel on the driver’s side and is more of like a hairline crack working its way up the cover of the instrument panel. The other is more concerning as it is located at the top left corner of the airbag compartment and is a solid 1-2 inch crack.
I have found forums with several people complaining of this (the dash cracks), yet GM has no open recalls for this and are pretty unwilling to help anyone. I just find it very disappointing that for people who pay well over $40K for a car, that anything like this should happen. It honestly makes me contemplate not buying another one given the lack of quality in the finishes. I love my Tahoe but wish GM would address this matter.

Brakes for 2003 Tahoe - Late 2014, my brakes went out and I almost slammed into the car in front of me. This happened with my family in the truck. I took my Tahoe to a local mechanic and they had to order new brake lines (the whole set) from the local dealer (I didn't want to pay the dealer price to fix the truck). It cost me over $600.00 to fix and I've looked online for a recall to this obvious problem with no results. My main question is: If there wasn't a problem with the brake line to begin with (according to GM) why are they now different? The new lines that are installed on my Tahoe are coated with black plastic. I'd like GM to pay me back for their substandard parts that were installed when my vehicle was new. I'll wait for 2015 and keep an eye on recalls but if I can't get reimbursed I'll never buy GM anything again.

First I purchased this truck brand new and have over 112K miles on it. My dash has no cracks. I can see and no mechanical problems that were not addressed during the warranty period i.e. power steering leak, driver side passenger auto lock. With respect to the well-known auto lock actuator, save yourself over $300 by buying the actuator motor online i.e. $30. It’s about the size of a silver dollar and install it yourself. From what I learned the actuator motor is a poorly made Chinese part? The replacement is made here and with a little effort you can rid yourself of this flawed part...
This vehicle is fully loaded with every gadget they offered at that time. I owned two Suburbans and one Tahoe in that order when we were raising our kids. This Tahoe is absolutely one of the finest made vehicles I have ever owned. I have a BMW which is just as reliable and always had Volvo's in the garage. Don't think for minute I spew money. These vehicles I maintained and continue to do so with this Tahoe. I will buy another Tahoe and just as with this one will follow the maintenance schedule and pay attention to any sound that might indicate an issue. Too many rely on indicator lights to foretell an issue... I store my vehicles in the garage. Great American craftsmanship - keep up the excellent work Chevy! Thanks.

We recently took our truck into the GMC (local) repair shop. Our 2009 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid has been cutting off in traffic! My wife was driving it to work last week and it completely powered down 3 times in the middle of heavy traffic and intersections! She called me screaming and crying, stating that the car shut down on her and she almost got hit twice by people behind her! We took the car in about 3 weeks ago for the brakes. I noticed a noise that the brakes were making so we ended up needing new rotors, pads, and coincidentally, "oxygen sensors."
About 3 days after that repair, the car cut off 2 times (in traffic). We immediately took the car back to the dealer. They admitted that it cut off on them when they test drive it, but that when they let it run for a few hours (sitting), that it didn't repeat the fault again. They called my wife and said the car is fine. Weird. Then, we had the same issue again (that I described above) with the car powering down. We had a Yukon Denali before the Tahoe and we LOVED IT. We never had any issues with it. I researched the issue and a few people said it could be the fuel pump, the PCM chip, etc.
I'm curious as to why the certified techs can't figure out why my wife's car has turned into a death trap! Literally! Imagine driving on the Interstate and your car completely shuts down, when a semi-truck is behind you. SCARY! I hope they fix it. We love GM but this may be the last go-around with their product.

I own a Chevrolet Tahoe 2012 which I purchased brand new. With 26500 Miles on the car last week I noticed my dashboard rattle and by inspection I discovered some cracks. One above the instrument panel of at least 4 inches!!!! in length and two on passenger side airbag - both corners towards the windshield. Because those cracks start directly from the airbag cover they might become hazardous in case the airbag pops out. The car is still under warranty and I will visit my dealer this week and see what their action is going to be. And will post their findings. Furthermore it's a fine vehicle and runs very well under our tropical climate condition.

I have friends and coworkers that swear by them and since I had horrible experiences with the last three Jeep vehicles, I was ready to jump ship and try out Chevy. My Tahoe is awesome! I have had absolutely no major issues with the vehicle and will definitely get another! I currently have just under 52,000 miles on it and it still feels the way it did when I drove it off the lot. My goal is to log 200,000 miles on it before considering upgrading to a newer model and based on its current performance it appears to be an easy task. The Chevy Tahoe truly appears to be built for abuse. We use them in our fire department and they just never quit! I have a 2008 hybrid Tahoe. I paid $43k for it and it seems to be falling apart now. About a year and a half ago, I noticed the cracking in my dash. It is over both the driver's side and the passenger side. About the same time, my car began surging when I tried to push the gas and the brakes wouldn't work correctly sometimes. Then one day the battery just died. I replaced it and then the A/C wouldn't work. I took it to dealer and they said that we had to take the battery out in a certain way and since we didn't do it that way, my system had to have a "code" put in to reboot the system...This cost me a couple hundred dollars plus a new battery. Worked fine for the next year and a half and here we are with the same problem. Surging when I start to accelerate from a stopped position. It actually surged and then died at a light while I was driving. Took it to the dealer and they say that I have to replace the Hybrid battery module...another $2400.
My car was supposed to be fixed on Tuesday, but the dealer said GM cancelled their order for my part because it is such a rare part that they wanted more information first. Now I'm on day 6 with no car. I also didn't mention yet, that the paint is coming off the door handles, the steering wheel is peeling, and both passenger door locks don't work half of the time. How sad that such an expensive car can be so poorly made. I will be joining this group of people that will no longer buy Chevy. If they can't stand behind their work and make quality cars (or at least be willing to fix things that are obviously manufacturer defects), I will no longer spend my hard earned money on them.

I would certainly like something newer, but we have been so fortunate with this one, I just cannot justify spending tens of thousands just to get a newer ride. I do not work for any GM division. I have owned my 2005 Tahoe LT 4WD for 3 years. It has around 133,000 miles on it now. Up until recently, it has been a great vehicle to own. I do most of my own work when I can to avoid paying the dealership their exorbitant fees for repairs. Late last year, we moved and I was without a place to work on my vehicles. Mid last year we had an airbag fault light on. Knowing that I would have to deal with the dealer, I chose to wait a while to have it fixed. Early this year, we had a check engine light appear. I had it checked at the local auto parts store and they said it was a fuel vapor canister leak after we started smelling fuel in the garage.
After replacing multiple components and still being unable to repair the problem, I finally took it to the dealer. I told them to fix the check engine and the air bag issue. The result was a $1200 bill to replace many of the things I had already replaced for the check engine issue. They also replaced both front airbag sensors. The air bag light went off and the check engine light cleared....then the real fun began. We took a 600-mile trip from home a week later. On the trip, the fuel smell got worse and the check engine light came back. I was very irritated. By the time we got home, fuel was running out around the fuel tank.
When we got back, I went straight back to the dealer. I got a call about an hour later to come in and see the issue. The whole top of the fuel sending unit had completely rusted out and the lines running to it were corroded to the sender. In other words, all things they should fixed the first time and I paid for parts the first time that I shouldn't have! Another $900 (!!!) later and it was running again. 2 weeks later, check engine light is back on. I'm not going back; I'll just figure it out myself. In addition to this issue, rust hole has developed under the driver's side rear door.
This is a garage kept, well maintained vehicle. If it weren't for my desire to buy American and if it weren't for the excellent drivetrain, I would never buy GM again. We also have a tach that works whenever it wants to, a check tire monitor light that comes on about once a week and a 4WD actuator that is acting up. GM's electronics and their service department will be their death someday!

His father before him, also Paul **, was also an employee of the same plant. In his passing we thought it would do a great honor in purchasing a new Chevrolet in their honor. We have never been able to afford a new car or truck. Driving a new one was a privilege I have only experienced, driving my Dad’s truck.
As we looked around the lots, (and there are many) we fell in love with the new look. It was a Tahoe all the way. We were offered great deals on Toyota, and a couple other imports. Thousands of dollars off the price. We were seriously offended after telling the salesman why we wanted to purchase a new Chevrolet. And I felt the safety I always felt when setting in my Dad’s truck. Although it was still quite pricey, even for a pre-owned model, we purchased it. I thought you folks at Chevrolet would like to know how proud our fathers taught us to be of the product they produced. It’s not new, as Dad's always was. I purchased the 2008 Chevy Tahoe from Abernethy Chevrolet in Lincolnton, NC in August of 2008. For the most part, I really enjoyed the vehicle, and for the first time in a long time was driving a GM-made car. My Tahoe has about 85,000 miles, all highway miles. I have kept up with all the maintenance on or before any due dates. Back in early March of this year, I went to back it out of the garage and the brake pedal went to the floor and all the repair lights came on. I had been having some problems with the car stalling at an intersection, not starting without reason, and losing power when driving under 25 miles an hour. Now the brakes go to the floor.
The deal repair person looked at it for several days and determined it was the "master cylinder" and it had to be replaced for $1,400. This is the first thing that got to me - a master anything on a relatively young car is unacceptable. Then, 2 weeks later, while in Maryland, the same thing happened. Now, the car has been in the shop for almost 3 weeks and they are replacing parts, trying new "codes (whatever that means)", and not coming up with a solution. The local techs are on the phone with GM on a daily basis.
After about 2 weeks, the owner of the dealership said GM offered to give me a new car purchase incentive over and above any current rebates. That immediately sounded like they were trying to smooth the problem over ... because they know there is a real problem. However, the offer was almost offensive. The dealer discussed w/ GM a '"buy back" scenario and the reply was immediately no due to the mileage: "The issue is his and we're trying to help".
I researched the issue online and there seems to be similar issues that are well documented where one individual described the exact same thing on a complaint web site. The fact is, this is a significant problem that GM has to take ownership of and they appear to be unwilling. The crappy thing is, the dealership with qualified technicians are doing everything they can to help and make this right. GM is the one who needs to take responsibility.

2008 Tahoe - On November 28, 2012, my teenage son and his girlfriend had come to a complete stop on a perfectly flat road, and just as they began to move forward through the stop sign, both side airbags deployed. They were not physically injured, but were mentally traumatized. In addition to the sheer scare from the bags deployments, much of the plastic trim inside the vehicle, as well as the sunroof cover, were heavily damaged. We took it the next day to the GM Dealer where we bought the vehicle, and it sat there for approximately a month while GM carried out its investigation.
Around Christmas, the GM representative from their CAC center called to say that a full warranty repair had been authorized, but ultimately, our request for another vehicle was largely ignored and effectively denied. We agreed to the repair, and reserved all rights to later make a claim for compensation in the form of lost value, loss of use of the vehicle, and mental trauma. These kids were mere seconds from being on a main road traveling at full speed, in which case this deployment would have caused a serious accident. The dealer continued to contradict everything I was being told by the GM representative, and it was at least two weeks later before they confirmed a repair was authorized. Parts were ordered, and we were told this was a two week job at most. However, once the parts arrived, the Service Manager and his regional GM representatives unilaterally halted the repair for completely unjustified reasons.
On January 24, we demanded the vehicle be taken to another local dealer for repair and GM complied. The vehicle was towed to another dealer that day. A week or so earlier, GM finally offered us the service of a rental vehicle after going nearly two months without the vehicle. We were in a rental for exactly 30 days. The second dealer immediately ordered parts and had the vehicle completely repaired by February 12. The authorized repair not only included the blown bags and sensors, but all airbags, sensors, seatbelts and interior damages. The investigation showed the side bag sensors malfunctioned because the sensors were sitting in standing water, where ever they are located, and had been for so long that they were badly corroded thus leading to their unexpected failure.
The repair did not address this unexplained problem with the sensor boxes holding water for long periods of time. GM promised to send me the black box data although they refused my request for a copy of the actual investigation report and conclusions. I never received this. In any event, the second dealer handled the problem quickly and efficiently, while the first dealer consistently argued with me over the information I was being given by GM, and they took it upon themselves to decide what would be done and when. Because of this, their Service Manager cost his dealership a warranty repair job worth several thousand dollars. So far, after 2 months of waiting, everything appears back to normal. But by no means, have I given up on seeking compensation from General Motors. I filed a complaint with the FHTSA but never have received even an acknowledgment of this.

At 63,388 miles, my speedometer went haywire and does not work properly. I called my local dealer, Faulkner Chevrolet Lancaster, PA, told me to call Chevrolet customer assistance. Interesting. This is a problem that has been well documented and also GM lost a class action lawsuit concerning this defective product. My vehicle VIN is within the listed problem vehicles and my mileage also. Unfortunately, this class action suit that was lost by GM limited the repair responsible by GM to 7 years. Do the math. I have just missed the time period.
I am a loyal Chevrolet customer. This is my 4th Chevy. Customer assistance is offering $100 off the estimated cost of the repair. Problem is they required me to take the vehicle to the dealer for the diagnostics to make sure this was the problem - cost me $116.11. They confirmed the problem was the I P Cluster. The estimate now is $435.61. So with their offer of $100 off, it will still cost me an additional $16.11 above the original estimate. I am very disillusioned with Chevy and how they treat longstanding Chevy owners. This problem has been well documented, which you can read on the internet.
It is a safety issue and a product liability issue. Unfortunately, this particular Tahoe was very well taken care of and has low mileage so the problem did not occur earlier. Does anyone have any suggestions for additional assistance in this repair? I am still waiting for the final outcome, but it will obviously have to be repaired because of the safety issue.

I use a window cover as it is hot in South Texas, so no damage has been done on my part. Put simply, it looks like some defect or use of cheap plastic.

I purchased a 2010 Chevy Tahoe LT from Masters Auto Mall at 271 Northern Blvd., Great Neck, NY 11021 and the truck at the time of purchase had 11,769 miles and was roughly 9 months old. I am the second owner. At first glance the truck seemed to be in perfect condition with the exception of a scuff or two on the bumpers (both front and rear). That’s according to the dealership and the salesman **. I don't remember noticing major scuffs on either bumper to where they needed to repair it, without me even asking for it. Anyhow, aside from the bumpers and a little unusual discoloring of the engine and other parts, like two damaged bent rims (the lip of the rim in particular), the truck seemed fine. So I left a deposit of $500 or something, returned to pick the truck up a few days or so later, gave another $3000 down, signed all papers and drove away with the truck.
A short time after I purchased the car, like within the first week, I started to notice while driving certain noises - a number of noises. When decelerating to come to a stop, the transmission would buckle and kick in viciously from behind (not always but definitely often). So I made my first trip to 86th Street Chevrolet. Actually, the first dealer I went to was Miller Chevy down in Edison, NJ being that I had a friend that worked in the service department (** and or **). He’s actually a friend of a friend. Anyhow, I went there and he said he saw nothing and gave the truck back to me. I then returned to 86th Street Chevrolet in Brooklyn, NY for the transmission and they at first looked and also said they do not see any issues. On the second or third try, they replaced a faulty or cracked or broken leaking transmission oil line, cooler line. So the buckling finally stopped. I also stated to 86th Street Chevrolet Brooklyn, NY 11228 that the truck was incredibly hard to keep straight while driving in a straight line (the steering wheel needed constant adjustment and so they replaced the steering rack and I got the truck back).
After replacement of the steering rack, I went back yet again because it’s hard to keep the car straight still and they were of no help. So I took it upon myself to have the wheels aligned by a private mechanic and finally the truck would drive straight! But I also have, and still have now, clunk and clack issues with the Tahoe with 43,000 miles. These were also brought to the attention of Miller Chevrolet, 86th Street Chevrolet and Potamkin Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac. However, not one of the dealers have acknowledged any of my claims and/or fixed the problem or at least inform me of why they are not acknowledging, fixing or explaining why they refuse to fix and/or acknowledge what is very evident - clunks, clacks, it’s still hard to keep straight and it is all over the road ! I did my own inspection and have ordered lower ball joints from OEMGMParts.com and am awaiting delivery of such parts today.
According to UPS, they will be arriving today on 8/2/2012. I'm probably going to have them installed by a private mechanic shop being that Chevy did not find and/or acknowledge any of the above listed problems which make my car incredibly hard to drive and not safe in my opinion. Also, it seems that maybe the truck, from my educated guess, may have suffered some type of water damage as well due to a very musty smell, as if the carpet and insulator pad was wet, and for the discoloration on the engine and other parts (When lifted underneath the truck like the drive shaft transfer case and other axles). I don't know if I should have the ball joints installed or if I should wait for a reply from whoever my issues may concern. Please let me know. Thank you and I hope someone can help with my problem.

I have a 2009 Chevy Tahoe. The vehicle was in for regular maintenance in February of this year as well as acceleration while braking. There were many updates that were done to the vehicle. After a couple of days of my vehicle being in the dealership, the truck was returned to me and it still did it. I then brought the vehicle to another dealership Herb Chambers in Danvers, MA. I took the truck for a test drive with the technician for him to tell me that it was dangerous and something was wrong with the vehicle.
Well, obviously, while braking the rpm would range from 300-1000 rpm. That's unsafe! After my 2009 Chevy Tahoe being at the dealership for 3 months, they had a GM representative take the truck for a test drive to tell me that it is a normal characteristic of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the GM of Herb Chambers, the service manager and the shop foreman all told me that the vehicle was extremely dangerous and I should not be driving it. Apparently, Marcia ** does not think so.
It was then put into repurchase status, and the numbers did not match nor were they acceptable. So Marcia told my husband and I to pick up the vehicle. The vehicle was brought back to the dealership several times afterwards, but I was pushed off. No one wanted to help me. Finally two months later I drove the truck to the dealership and spoke with the GM and made him aware that it is to the point that I am going to either kill myself and family or someone else on the road. He then had me go on a test drive with the shop foreman yet again. Upon returning to the dealership, the shop foreman told the service manager, "The vehicle is extremely dangerous. She should not be driving this vehicle. We need to do something." I was put in a rental and told that they were going to get the GM rep to come back and take a look at the truck.
Upon receiving a phone call, I was told that the GM rep took it for a test drive and again said it was a normal characteristic of the vehicle and that I needed to pick up the vehicle even though it was in buy back status at this point. I refused to pick up a vehicle that I was told was extremely dangerous to be driven. But Marcia told my husband that he needed to drop off the rental; otherwise, we would be responsible for the payment. No one could understand why I was being put in an unsafe vehicle. I picked up the vehicle at Herb Chambers. After driving about 10 minutes, the check engine light came on and the vehicle stalled out. Furious, I called my husband and began screaming. He contacted Walter (General Manager Herb Chambers). Very apologetic, he said he would have it towed, etc. After about 15 minutes stranded on the side of the road, the vehicle started up again. I was able to drive it home and park it.
It was Christmas weekend and did not want to be bothered with the headache, so the truck sat until Tuesday the following week at my home. Marcia has been so rude, ignorant, non helpful, and a liar. She hangs up the phone if she doesn’t like what you say. To this day my family is still driving around in an unsafe vehicle because she has not completed the repurchase of the vehicle that we are waiting for. She sent my husband an email today saying if you don't want to drive around in the truck, then find alternative transportation.
Poor customer service! So apparently Marcia could give two ** if not only my family gets killed or someone else. I will never ever purchase a GM vehicle ever again just because of Marcia. And I will make sure that none of my friends or family will purchase a GM vehicle either. This process should not take two months to complete. Apparently Marcia is waiting for something drastic to happen and for a lawyer to contact her before something gets done.

Purchased a Brand new Chevy Tahoe in April 2003. In December 2003, with only 6 thousand miles on my truck, the Intermediate Shaft was replaced. It was a great concern for me. I got in touch with General Motor right voice my concerns and armed with research that I had done, several hundred people were experiencing the same issue and it had found to be an design defect.
Company did not want to replace the truck but assured that for the life of the truck they would be responsible for the issue. So in June 2004 with 9200 miles, the shaft is replaced once more. Two weeks later, July '04 with 9400, the shaft had to be serviced. In Nov 2006 with 24000 miles, the shaft is replaced yet again. In Sept 2008, with 39000 miles, the shaft is replaced once more. In Jan 2009 with 43000, the shaft is serviced again.
In the meantime, I have been through three sets of tires because I have been told the wearing of the shaft affects the balance of the truck. I also spoke with Chevy about this. They said it has no correlation though I think that's true. No, I do not. It's always the same tire that wears down. I have bought the most expensive tires and it still happens.
Now I have arrived at the problem. I started talking to Customer Service back in Aug 2011 with 66000 miles, expressing the same concerns about the Intermediate Shaft. They want me to pay an $125.00 diagnostic fee to tell me and them what they already know. There is a pattern that can not be denied or ignored. Their rebuttal now is that it is no longer under warranty and they are not responsible. This is an existing problem that they were aware of now they want to bail out on their customer which isn't fair. They allow a product to be released into main stream with conscious and then without recall, only to string the customer along till the warranty expires and claiming no responsibility.
I feel this is bad faith on General Motors behalf and they need to own up to this. Anyone chosen can surf the web and read how many consumers are going through the same thing. General Motors should be ashamed but I will not go quietly into the night. Whatever I need to do, I will do until they respond and act in good faith.

I purchased as 2004 Chevy Tahoe when it was new and have been the only owner since. The Tahoe has approximately 65,000 miles on it. Recently, the engine began to make a knocking noise upon start up. As such, I took the vehicle to the local dealership for inspection (William Morriss Chevrolet - who has been great through this whole ordeal). Upon inspection of the issue, the dealership informed me that both cylinder heads are cracked and that they needed replacement at a total cost of $3,400.
Needless to say I was shocked, as cylinder heads should not need replacement after 65,000 miles, especially since I live in Southern California where there is not significant temperature fluctuations (which can lead to stress on the cylinder heads). After doing some brief research on the internet, it turns out that GM has known of issues associated with a particular cylinder head produced by Castech, which were used on numerous GM motors. In fact, GM has issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB), which details the steps to take if a customer comes in complaining of certain issues with their vehicle. It turns out that Castech cylinder heads are prone to leaks and cracking due to porosity issues. However, no recall was ever issued for the defective Castech cylinder heads.
Needless to say, I was not very happy and I asked the dealership if anything could be done. I was informed by the dealership that they would have to contact the regional manager to see if GM would "pick up" any of the tab. Well as you can imagine, I was informed that since the vehicle had over 50,000 miles on it that they would not help me out and that I had to pay he full amount.
The bad thing is that I wasn't even asking for full payment. I was just hoping to split the bill with them, or pay 60 percent of it at worse. The least they could have done is offered to give me the parts for free and I would have paid the labor.
In the end, my issue is that GM knew there was an issue with a product they were placing on there vehicles, yet they will not take the correct steps to remedy the individuals impacted by there negligence. GM knew the Castech cylinder heads were faulty, but expect customers to bear the financial burden of replacing them. Cylinder heads should not need replacing after 65,000 miles - maybe you could say one is normal, but two cracked cylinder heads? Based on this, I will never purchase another GM vehicle as long as I live.

I called GM to see if there was any way they could help with the cost of the repair after finding out there is a bulletin out (#06-06-01-019B) to GM techs indicating what to do if they come across this problem on certain cars, the 2004 Tahoe being one of them. I have a 2005 Chevy Tahoe. The spare tire is located underneath the vehicle and is lowered using a spare tire hoist also located under the vehicle. The tire has been getting flat periodically, so I decided to remove it and have it repaired but found that it couldn't be lowered. And this was the first time I have tried to lower the tire since I owned the car, which I bought new.
The tire is held up with a cable and a bracket that rides in the hub of the wheel. There is also a secondary lock that holds the bracket to the hoist. I can lower the cable but the secondary lock will not release. I have followed all the directions in the owner's manual which, by the way, implies there may be problems disengaging the secondary lock as it gives two alternative ways to lower the spare if the lock doesn't initially disengage. I finally took the car to the dealer who also could not remove the spare. Their only solution, which I opted not to do at this time, was to cut it off and replace the hoist with a new one.
I called Chevy (GM) Chevrolet Customer Assistance at 1-800-222-1020 with a service request. My hope was that they would back their product and have it fixed for me. Instead, they said that there was no evidence of product defect and therefore they would not compensate me for the repair.
In researching this over the internet, this looks like a pretty common problem yet Chevy does not seem to recognize it nor will they fix the problem with their poor design, defective design, and/or defect parts. As you might know, I disagree with their assessment that the part is not defective. It has never been used, was not broken, and doesn't work correctly - to me that is the definition of defective.

Today I took my Tahoe in and the service man told me that I have 76,800 miles on my Tahoe and the service order or special order only covered up to 70,000 miles. He kept telling me that it wasn't a recall. He kept calling it something else , like a service order or a special order. I told him that my SUV cost over $40,000 and is only 5 years old. I also told him that I would be calling GM on Monday and sending them any speeding tickets I might get. Considering, that GM knows there is a problem with the speedometer, I can't believe that mileage becomes a factor. I do not believe that a 5 year old car should have a speedometer that does not work. Our garage was not build with the fire wall (spancrete, they call it) between the garage and the second story (it was built in 1973); if the truck would have been in our garage, my self, my husband, and my 4 year old daughter, and my 2 year old son, would be dead. The worst part of the whole ordeal, is that Chevy told me, when I called, that they could not even assign someone to look at my case for7-10 days. I called today, being the 9th day, and they told me Mrs. Schwarz, we told you it would take us 7-10 days, today is only day 9. Ours is not the first SUV this has happened to, it is the 3rd. Does someone need to be killed before a call will be returned from Chevy. I have visions of my four year old little girl on fire, and burning to death. We were very lucky, no one was hurt, but what will happen to the next person? What about the next family, that doesn't wake up in the middle of the night? I can tell you what will happen. Chevy will send a huge settlement to the next of kin; because they will be burying a member of their family that owned a 2007 Chevy Tahoe. Chevy will know that it could have been prevented by recallling 400,000 vehicles; but they will also know that they did nothing about it, and I will feel that I didn't do enough. Please contact me if there is any further action that I can take. I would like to see a recall of this vehicle. Someone should have to be injured, or killed, just because enough wasn't done.

My 2006 (two year old!) Chevy Tahoe with only 43,369 miles on it experienced major transmission failure. Although the vehicle was purchased brand new, and within the warranty timeframe, but not within the warranty mileage, GM Customer Service provided no help resolving the issue.
Out of nowhere, when I tried to acellerate, my vehicle acted as if it was in neutral, reving while sitting in place, and then lunging forward after hard shifting into first gear. Maintenance schedules show that the transmission requires no service prior to 100,000 miles (50,000 under extreme conditions) however, the faulty component failed at a significantly lower mileage. Additionally, the hesitation and subsequent lunge forward caused a dangerous situation where I was forced to back quickly out of the intersection to avoid oncoming traffic. As recommended in the manual, I called GM Customer Service prior to proceeding with any other complaints. After receiving what seemed to be good customer service, I was advised that my claim was being endorsed and forwarded to a regional specialist who would work directly with me and the dealer. I was also, promised a call back within 24 hours or one business day from the regional specialist.
Nearly one week later, I have yet to receive a return phone call and was forced to buy a new transmission (also given the option from the dealer to rebuild at slightly less cost). I have read in internet newsgroups and other areas of the web of people experiencing similar problems and desiring a class action suit or recall from the manufacturer. This is my third brand new Chevy in a row, and the second to experience major transmission failure under 60,000. Other GM/Chevy makes and models with this same transmission should be recalled.

The blower in the air conditioner went out that had to be replaced as well. My service light came on and another part had to be replaced. I would have to say that my truck has been in the shop at least 30 days. The dealership was so quick to sell me the truck, not that quick to help me.

There was no indication that the transmission was having problems ie metal shavings and the fluids were all topped off.

I own a 2004 Chevy Avalanche Z66. It currently has 46,000 miles on it. It is out of original manufacturer warranty, but I carry an extended service warranty. My problem first occurred when the vehicle still had the original warranty from factory, it actually went back to them 2 times under original warr.
The problem is that the dashboard lights and a/c lights do not go on at all. My wife drives the vehicle and has my son with her, and she uses glasses and is a small fraction away from being legally blind. The problem up to this date still persists. It has gone back and forth to the GM dealer (Leo hoffman Chevrolet) 6 times and going in for the 7th time this week.
They keep fixing the problem, but I think that they are just guessing what the problem is and fix it just so I can get my vehicle back. I have contacted GM HQ and all they offered me was a free oil change for the inconvenience. I needed this problem fixed permanently and they knew that. Also, when we got the vehicle back from them the alignment was bad, the vehicle pulls to the side. I love my truck and so does my wife, but we can't be having this problem any more. Is there anything that you can do to help me out?
My wife was driving back home from picking up our son and was stranded on the freeway without any gas in the tank. This would have not happened if the lights were on indicating that the gas tank was going on empty. Thank God that she was almost home and I went in my trusty Ford and gave her some gas to make it to the nearest exit.

I bought the Tahoe used and had no idea that there were all these problems with the brakes. We have driven chevy for several years and never had a problem until now. We have an older truck with 300,000 miles on it and no problems at all, GM is just trying to make everything so cheap now, at our expense. Even though they are using cheaper parts, the prices surely don't go down.

I purchased a 99 Chevy Tahoe less than 3 years ago. About 3 months after buying the vehicle, the transmission went. I took it back to the dealership and was told it would be fixed.
The mechanic that fixed my truck advised that Tahoe/Suburban makes have a manufacturers defect with transmissions. He would get all Chevy parts and rebuild the transmission. After the truck was out of the shop, it drove fine for about a year. After that, when going from first to second gear it made a rough engagment. Like a loud thump! I took it back to the mechanic and was told everything was fine.
On New Year's Eve, while driving the transmission wouldn't go into gear. My truck has about 99,000 miles and is only about 6 years old. I believe a transmission should last longer than that! I don't have the money to get a new transmission. Please help!

Brake problems. Bought the vehicle new in 2001. In 2003 decided to check the brakes at about 48000 miles. The rotors were so bad that no one would turn them down they were actually coming apart, but the brakepads were not wore to the metal, actually they looked fine. The vehicle never made any noise or warning that this was happening.
Contacted Chevrolet and of course brakes are not warrantied. I spent over $600 to replace the rotors and pads, also the rear park brake shoes were gone too, the vehicle is not driven in mud or water and towing is limited to small utility trailer. I have a friend with a 2003 silverado it has 39,000 miles on it. Guess what? He just replaced his brakes too! Chevrolet has a problem and needs to admit it before people start dying. I have owned several new Chevrolets and this one will be the last because of this problem and GM's reluctancy to fix it.

The dealer informed me that they could repair my wipers for a charge of $65+ for parts plus labor. I called GM trying to get some assistance with my repair but was told my vehicle didn't have the recall so I should just pay my local dealer to repair the wipers and save the receipt in case it was recalled in the future. Then GM would reimburse for repair.

I am so glad to see that other people are having the same problems as myself. On 12/09/2002, I was on my way to the office. I was going through an intersection when another SUV decided to stop in front of me while I was driving my 1999 Tahoe Limited. I was traveling between 25-30 mph and had about 50 feet to stop. Well...guess what? No brakes!
The brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I could not get over into another lane as a vehicle was beside me. So, I slammed into a brand-new M-Benz SUV. The driver of the other SUV saw my reaction in his mirror as I was trying to stop my Tahoe. He said that I looked like I was trying to brake hard and could not stop. He braced for the impact.
That was quite the feeling of having sooo much time to stop your vehicle, but there was nothing you could do about it. Later that day, I took my vehicle to the dealer ... what a joke that was. They would not even tell me what they did to my vehicle except for that there is nothing wrong with the braking system. Surprise surprise.
I contacted GM and they faxed a list of things that they wanted the dealer to inspect on my vehicle. I still don't know what they did to my vehicle. I traded the vehicle in on a new Tahoe which I absolutely love ... because the brakes actually work all the time! To date, my insurance company (GEICO) and myself have had to pick up the charges of this accident that was totally a GM's braking/safety issue. In my opinion, the older Tahoe's should absolutely be recalled regarding this type of braking issue.

I purchased a 2000 Chevy Tahoe in August of 2000. In May of 2002, I took my Tahoe to the dealer because of a problem with the brakes. The brake pedal would pulse and became spongy and grab slightly. I took it to Woodward Chevrolet in Fairfield, CA, where the vehicle was purchased. I was told they would inspect the vehicle and see what the problem was. Their conclusion was that the brake pads were worn out and the rotors needed to be turned. In other words, the vehicle needed a front brake job (pads & rotor).
I was charged $300 for a brake job. The vehicle only had 22,000 miles, was never used for towing, and was never treated roughly. Therefore, I feel it should have been fixed under warranty. I had to pay the $300 to get my vehicle out of the shop so I could use it, and I was told to contact General Motors Warranty for a possible refund. After eight months of dealing with Chevrolet Warranty Center, my claim was denied, and I was told by Chevrolet that the normal life span of brakes on all Tahoes is between 20,000 and 25,000 miles.

Oon Sunday Feb 6, my wife ran into the rear of another vehicle because the brakes failed (pedal went to the floor).
