I purchased a car on eBay. It has undisclosed problems that cost $2400 to correct. I filled a warranty claim and I couldn't get a response from the third party insurance. Ultimately they would only tell me verbally that my claim was denied. The insurance is worthless. Last time I will ever buy through eBay Motors.

Their service is terrible and their advertising very misleading. They charge a fee even if you don't sell it or cancel the listing. I also was charged a fee when a vehicle did not sell but someone had mistakenly tagged it as sold, locking my listing. I had to create a new listing, but then they charged me the selling fee for the first listing too! I will never use eBay Motors again!

I decided to use eBay to sell my vehicle. I took pictures wrote up an ad. Placed my info to pay for the ad. Only to get an email saying my account is suspended. Ad NEVER posted and eBay keeps taking my money! You can FORGET getting a human on the phone because that won’t happen. eBay continues to take $25.00 monthly from my debit card and yet my ad was immediately suspended! How is it that a major company has such an EPIC FAILURE when it comes to customer service and ultimately being accountable for the consumer!! I will NEVER EVER use eBay for any reason even if the account was to be fixed. I have NO IDEA why they would suspend my account. This was my first time attempting to sell on eBay and DEFINITELY MY LAST.

All I want is my money back from them which as of now seems like that’s not gonna happen. Horrible way to do business and the worst part. You can’t speak to a breathing human being! They have answering machines set up that say this number is no longer useful!!! WHAT?? Major corporations get away with things like this and me the consumer has to take it on the chin! This company has definitely CRASHED AND BURNED! I WANT MY MONEY BACK. PAID FOR NOTHING! I would give them 0 stars if I could but they make you choose one.

    Updated review: Feb. 3, 2021

I did receive my full deposit back.

    Original Review: Jan. 29, 2021

I won a no reserve eBay Motors auction (#**) for a 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP. The eBay Motors seller is a car dealership in Pittsburg called JKMotorcars. My winning bid was $4450.00. After paying the required $1000 deposit within minutes of auction close. I tried contacting the seller via Ebay messaging, a phone call (which was disconnected as soon as I said I won the auction) and text. I was informed by the seller via text they would not honor the no reserve auction price of $4450. They refused to let me pay balance due after deposit and take delivery of the car unless I paid a total sale price of $7200. This is a bait and switch on agreed upon auction price after I paid the deposit of $1000.

Bottom line is that the seller took my $1000 deposit and then refused to sell car unless I paid an additional $2750 over the agreed upon auction price. Seller has not returned the $1000 deposit. I have had to file a Vehicle Purchase Protection claim with eBay Motors to attempt to get my deposit back. Currently out $1000 and hoping my claim is paid to refund the deposit. eBay Motors has no control over the integrity of the vehicle sellers and does not require sellers to honor the auctions they list.

I am a long time eBay user with over 1100 purchase or sale transactions. I have never had an real issue with eBay until I attempted to purchase a car on eBay Motors. Until eBay Motors can better ensure the quality of the sellers on their site I cannot recommend eBay Motors as a place to purchase a car. eBay is great. I only have an issue with eBay Motors automobile sales.

I then decided to email her, she said it was her deceased husband's, and that she was in the military about to be deployed. I didn’t think anything of it, so I proceeded with the transaction. eBay then emailed me how to pay for it, so I went ahead and paid for it. Then they told me the shipping will be starting in a few hours but I need to pay insurance of 1k, so I again went ahead and paid it.

Now today, Dec 5th eBay emailed me saying I need to pay Utah’s custom tax of 1.2k. I then started to question it because I asked them for a refund because I wasn’t willing to pay more money. They continued to tell me It’s in their policy that I couldn’t get a refund until I received the vehicle. So I asked them for a copy of their policy and they haven't emailed me back in the past 5 hrs. I finally decided to look at reviews, which I should’ve done before, and turns out it was a SCAM!

I went on offer up to look for a car and the seller only wanted to be contacted via email so I emailed her and she let me know that she was selling the car through eBay Motors for a safe transaction. She blocked me on offer up then she sent me an invoice from eBay motors. The invoice said in order to make the transaction I will need eBay cards so I thought it was a little sketchy because of the payment method other than that it looked legit. So I googled reviews and every review is bad and are going through the same thing I did. And she is scamming them. I'm so grateful I did not send her any money!

She switches the stories and names up but she is scamming people out of their money and using eBay motors. I contacted eBay motors to make sure it was a scam and IT WAS!!! The agent told me to never send money on eBay cards it should be done through PayPal and they should be contacting me directly through eBay not my personal email! I have put the email below that I received from the scammer. I will also try to attach images of the fake invoice! Please be careful and do not fall for this scam. If you receive an email like this forward it to spoof@ebay.com!

    Hello,

My name is Vanessa, and I'm emailing you about a 2013 Nissan Altima with an gasoline engine, automatic transmission and only 89,000 mileage. Never had or needed any paint/body work done, the garage kept always, without any mechanical problems, tires and wheels are in great shape as well, electric is working perfectly. The engine 2.5L V6 runs very good and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly. Has a clean and clear title in my name and there are no liens or loans on it. This car was used by my husband who died 4 month ago. The price was reduced at $1,400 because I'm in a hurry to find a buyer.

I need to sell it before the 5 of next month, when I will be leaving on military duty with my medical team out of the country for a year and do not want to store my car. Hate to sell it but it's not worth keeping insurance and paying storage fees for a year. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay (full name, shipping address (city and zip code) and phone number), so we can get the ball rolling.

I have been with Ebay since January 1999, and have made over 400 successful transactions, mainly as a buyer. I have never left negative feedback on any seller, even some that truly would have deserved it. That all changed when I completed my biggest purchase ever which was a 15,095.00 car, item ** from seller Michael-s2. The seller wrote in the item description that shipping to NY was 550. After I won the vehicle auction, he verbally told me that my shipping would be 550. When the vehicle arrived at my house, the driver's paperwork required 650 to release my car off the flatbed. I paid the fee and called the seller to advise him of the price discrepancy. He was uncaring, saying that it is not his tow company and they can charge whatever they want.

The problem is that the seller quoted me an exact shipping price, and I bid on the car with the understanding that shipping would be 550. He could have put a disclaimer in the Ebay post stating that the shipping price was subject to change, but he didn't. I bid in good faith that he was being truthful. Without getting a resolution from the seller, I placed my FIRST non-positive feedback on a seller in over 20 years by stating the truth; that his post CLEARLY and DEFINITIVELY stated 550 shipping when it was really 650. I felt it my duty to warn others to this seller's practice.

To my surprise, Ebay removed my neutral feedback within 2 hours of posting, due to sellers request. When I called Ebay for clarification, they stated that the seller claims that he has no control over what the shipper charges, to which I responded, then why in his post does he say "550 to NY" as a fact. And if you check his current car auction items he continues to lie and say that shipping to NY area is 550. We all now know know that that's not true. He has no reason to tell buyers the truth because it is obvious that Ebay removes and prevents HONEST negative feedback on this seller. People bid on items based on the shipping charge and he knows it.

I never would have believed that Ebay would protect a seller that openly and flagrantly lies and continues to lie to buyers. What if the shipper asked me for 2,000.00 when the car was in front of my house? The seller can just say "it's not my problem"? Ebay has a responsibility to hold sellers to the words THEY write in their posting. I was told by the Ebay rep that my neutral feedback would NOT be re-instated, and that I would NOT be allowed to write any further feedback on this seller for this item. Sellers must not be allowed to lie in their post without repercussions. This seller averages over a million dollars in sales per year in which **** gets their commission. It appears to me, that in this case, Ebay is biased in keeping this seller happy at the expense of a truthful review. For 20 years I had thought that Ebay feedback was legitimate and that Ebay was a good steward, but apparently, I have been wrong.

I explained to the representative that I did exactly what the representative asked me to do and when he transferred me to the supervisor he said that he will refund me the money. Seller Cezus1973 stated no leaks, no missing buttons, car had no mechanical issues, only minor cosmetic which was fine. I contacted ebay motors and they stated if the seller misrepresented the vehicle I’d be covered so I bought it. It was delivered from Cali to Louisiana. Upon delivery the car would not start. Apparently the seller cezus1973 had used a bank envelope to keep the glove box closed during the pics, which fell and the light stayed on killing the battery.

The hardtop would not working. Apparently the seller had pulled wires in the trunk to make the top work temp for the pics and video. The pump is leaking. The power locks do not work. The fob won’t lock or unlock the doors. The trunk will only open with the key. All these are mechanical issues. Even an idiot knows this. eBay motors allows the seller to lie and misrepresent the vehicle to sell it. They need to be held liable. eBay lets the sellers lie lie lie and screw over buyers. I will never buy from ebay motors. They really need to be investigated for ethical violations and allowing sellers to lie and misrepresent and sell vehicles they know have issues. Ebay has removed my negative feedback to the seller without contacting me, the buyer. I purchased a vehicle from eBay seller rebuiltcars0199 who claimed in the description that it was a nice car, had been rebuilt and nice. I purchased based on 100% positive feedback believing that they must be honest on the description. Upon arrival a tire was hanging off the rim, blower motor for heat and a/c was inoperable, cracked taillight, blown transmission. (I have spent $2800 on transmission alone so far.) First time taking through a carwash the fender flare (that they "fixed") flew off. Every engine pulley and tensioners were squealing and had to be replaced.

The seller offered me a very small "partial refund" until the got ebay to remove my negative feedback, then they had no reason to send the partial refund and did not. DO NOT TRUST ebay sellers based on their positive feedback because EBAY can and will remove negative feedback without hesitation for the sellers. So rebuiltcars0199 from Florida, an auto seller on Ebay still has 100% positive feedback because they remove buyers like me's honest negative feedback. I, like possibly many others have to find other avenues to report sellers like this. Ebay refused to keep my feedback up. I sent him proof that the motor was incorrect and he still refused to provide shipping. eBay determined the motor was listed incorrectly and promised a full refund. I have yet to receive it and it's been a month. eBay tells me that I have to now fight with PayPal but I cannot submit a dispute through PayPal because I did not purchase the item through PayPal. I cannot repair my vehicle because I've not had a refund of my funds.

I even offered to send the motor back when the refund was processed although eBay said I didn't have to and even though this seller was very belligerent. My advice is: Find someone else to purchase your parts through because this company does not stand by their guarantees and warranties. I let him know the day we received it that it was incorrect. I'm still fighting to get someone to adhere to the policy and guarantee that I was provided upon purchase. It has been very difficult being without a car for so long and a very difficult and extremely long process to get this corrected. It may not mean much to eBay and this seller but my car is the only transportation I have for myself and my son.

My hope and prayer is that nothing emergent happens to either one of us or our pets while I'm waiting on this to be resolved because we would be out of luck. I think it's a sad day when large companies do things like this to people - all people. For those of you that read this review, please pray for our family. None of this was mentioned in the eBay entry. When I decided that it just wasn't for me, he refused to return the deposit claiming that he'd taken time off work to show it when he'd fixed both the day and the time of the viewing. I reported this to eBay who took no action on their client and didn't even acknowledge my complaint. There was no mention either that the deposit was non-refundable in the event of a no sale. Yesterday, I purchased a 1994 Fleetwood motorhome here on eBay, paid IN FULL on eBay cards in the amount of the purchase price, $1200. In the initial email from eBay, it said there would be NO HIDDEN FEES, PERIOD, FREE DELIVERY, PERIOD. Today, I got a message from eBay saying that they won't ship the motor home I already paid for in full, without the seller and I each putting up another $1000/each for a total of $2000, to insure the motorhome during a 7 day inspection period that I don't need and didn't ask for.

That's right, MORE THAN THE PURCHASE PRICE, TO SUPPOSEDLY INSURE THE PURCHASE WHICH HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID. eBay is holding my property hostage. I paid for it, they have no right to refuse delivery because they want a ransom for some bs insurance fee that was **not disclosed** prior to the purchase, or I wouldn't have bought it. This is shady. This is a scam. This is bad business. No, that's the understatement of the year.

Won an auction for a Honda 650L. After paying and scheduling the pickup I asked the seller to send a copy of the title. Turns out the seller never registered it in their name. Contacted the previous owner, they said they never sold it to that person. The date of sale was overwritten from 2015 to 2018 and the odometer disclosure was higher than the advertised mileage. eBay Motors said that as long as the actual mileage of the vehicle isn't at least 5k miles more than advertised they can't do anything about it. The seller backed out of the sale after I asked for a notarized odometer disclosure from him and the previous buyer. When I asked eBay about the $39 spent on Carfax and $50 the transportation company kept. They referred me to their buyers' insurance who said they can't do anything about it...

I purchased a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited 144k from a seller who did a bait and switch. Seller put up pictures of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic for exterior pictures and for the interior pictures a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited because it had leather interior which the 2000 Jeep did not have. I have proven without a doubt to eBay of this and to date they have done nothing. I have reported this to the authorities and seller is being investigated as I write this. Shame on eBay for not protecting the Buyers of eBay which is what is considered their "Bread and Butter." We the customer made eBay, I only wish we could make an impression on them to act in a more positive way.

So what I ended up with is a vehicle that is totally different from the eBay Auction by the Seller. So the nice shiny with 2 tone OEM wheels and double pinstripe Vs what's on the Flatbed to be delivered to me and the YouTube Video stating that the pictures are of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic. One picture shows left and right pictures of the same vehicle but on the left is YouTube of 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic with seller's name and on the right is the eBay picture that is suppose to be a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited 144K. Clearly bait and switch.

These are your words that I trusted from the seller when I signed the purchased agreement on eBay motors. (A beautiful show-room quality motorcycle with low mileage, only 2626 miles. Well maintained) That is why I drove 1500 miles round trip that took 22 hours to buy and pick up this motorcycle from Daytona Beach all the way up to Savannah, Tennessee. I get there and the owners state that it doesn't even run.

I call eBay Motors rep. Patrick and got zero help from him. I had to talk him into calling sellers to see if we could resolve this in 2 different ways. He tried with no luck and then he just wanted to start arguing with me. eBay Motors says that line maybe recorded, I hope so. They should listen to how Patrick just wanted to argue instead of trying to help. Zero confidence in eBay Motors!!! I wasted all those miles and time. No I did not buy bike after I got there, it won't start, hasn't been started for over 6 months the seller now says. How about they be honest and list bike as not running and how about eBay Motors doing something about false advertising??? Happened on July 20th, 2018.

I wish to save those of you out there from being ripped off using eBay. They do not take action to delist marginal sellers and provide quite a bit of lip service on the matter. I went online with eBay to purchase an instrument panel dash gauge cluster for my 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited because I could not get one from Jeep Chrysler (terminal backlog). On eBay I noticed a company called White Racing Products LLC out of Tampa, FL that offered a new instrument cluster for nearly twice the normal selling price and with added shipping costs together with a fairly long lead delivery time.

Since I was fairly desperate as stuck with a totally inoperative Jeep I placed the order without reading all the reviews for this company. When I did later, a number of which indicated that they did not deliver as stated. Those reviews were right. After numerous attempts to get this firm to respond and to provide the item, after three (3) months I had to force them to refund the money. They took my money with no intention of delivering the instrument panel.

My failures? I assumed that they had some information, had a vendor source or had kept some of these instrument panels somewhere. I should have cancelled after the second time that they told me how much they "appreciated my patience" and kept referring to some mythical manager who would respond to my concerns but never did. Also, I expected that eBay did a much better job than they do about vetting their sellers and that they paid attention to the reviews of their sellers.

eBay failures? Take too long to correct situations. Do not track the reviews of their sellers. Pay lip service to their online customers. Are quick to close claims and do not want to know about their problems. I did not receive the ordered item. I received a refund after they used my money for three (3) months without the slightest ability to deliver the item I wanted to buy. Even after all this and the other reviews from other buyers about not providing them with their ordered merchandise eBay continues to let them list the same item with another delivery date so that they can sucker more unfortunates like me into loaning them money. Avoid eBay and White Racing Products LLC. Both bad news.

I came across a truck for sale, listed as eBay seller buyer protection. The seller wanted me to buy eBay cards to make the Purchase. I called eBay Motors and ask them if this was the correct procedure to make a sale of this nature. I was told YES IT WAS. So I bought the cards and sent the codes to the seller. Guess what, fraud. I contacted eBay and was told they would look into the matter. I was told they would look at the transcripts and get back to me as to weather I was covered under buyer protection. I got the run around from 4 different eBay reps and the same story from every one of them.

To make a long story short, I was told I was NOT COVERED by buyer protection and I was OUT $2,500. Not only was I given bad info but was also lied to at least three different times as to what I was told. One rep told me two of the card had not been cashed and they would put a stop on the cards. They didn't. I was ask to send ALL INFO on the transaction to them Four different times. All to no avail.

When all was said and done I ask them to track the eBay cards to see who cashed them in so I could give the info to the police and catch the crooks. NOPE wouldn't do that either. I would rate eBay Motors less than a one star rating but there is no 0 rating. You better beware when dealing with eBay Motors. They could care less if you get cheated out of your money and will tell you anything not to pay off under buyer protection. eBay Motors and eBay in general (in my opinion) has NO INTEGRITY whatsoever. I don't know whether they are untrained to give you correct info or just non-caring as to you getting your money back. My guess is (both). It cost me $2,500 to know I don't want to buy a car through eBay Motors ever again.

I then found out the car was missing many options listed on eBay, and the pictures shown on eBay ad were NOT off the actual car. Not to mention the seller did not provide title at the time of sale. After much communication with seller, I felt no choice but to leave a negative rating on the seller. Soon after, another seller jumped in with another negative rating too and the description of his experience is very similar to mine.

Guess what eBay did? Ebay removed both bad ratings at the request of the seller! I called back to inquire about the removal, eBay said the reason for removal is because there was no actual transaction taken place. What does that even mean! I PAID $5,400 for the car and the guy didn't even provide a title! The seller may have misrepresented the car, but eBay willingly misrepresents the seller's reputation! If you google Jessidupu0 today, he still sells car on eBay and still shows an impeccable 100% positive rating on eBay. Kevin ** cannot do this alone. eBay is a partner in crime.

If a company constantly ignores your complaint, fails to call you back, and allows their name and reputation to be demoralized... It appears they ARE THE ROOT ISSUE. It is my belief, eBay motors is behind the scam as they the benefactors of the payments made! I am the victim of eBay Fraud, purchase of a used vehicle in which I paid for in full using eBay gift card totaling $3200.00 on 05/18/2018 and 05/20/2018. I realized I was not going to get the merchandise and it was a fraud scheme in which the issue was reported 05/21/2018 to eBay. eBay placed a hold on all the gift cards. It is my belief eBay is in collusion with the scam or the cloaked scammer, as eBay has benefited from the fraud and received the $3,200. eBay continues to give me the run around.

Today is 06/18/2018, and I have exceeded all the eBay demands, since 05/21/2018 date reported. I continue getting passed around to “general customer service” representatives, as asked the same questions. This purchase was for my daughter birthday, June 10. eBay has failed to respond and acts in a manner as though they are colluding with the scammers for unjust enrichment. eBay is in collusion with these thieves because eBay and the scammers both profit, perpetuating this mass thievery eBay customers by doing nothing. This is both unethical and illegal. eBay is deliberately Making Your Experience Worse.

I sacrificed for years as a single parent, to save this money. Now the disgusting “unclean hands” of eBay and his obviously employed collusion team has committed fraud upon me and the public, as the public will incur the expenses of utilization of Government regulatory agencies for enforcement. Therefore these continual and ongoing acts of fraud upon the public is costly to all. Interest is earned on those funds that are in your account but not at your disposal, and that interest is not being passed on to you. And while the interest earned on my $3200 unjustly, surely minuscule to eBay, however not to a single parent as myself, the profits from dubious "holds" and “lack of response” must be staggering.

I will not allow this to go unpunished and I will move to have charges filed via an investigation into eBay and those employed by eBay for colluding with and adjoining to fraud the public. eBay has become a danger to the public and the publics’ economic stability and trust. To reiterate, my personal experience, nothing less than aggravating and frustrating, evolving into disgust. But it seems that this collusion offers a BIG chance for these companies to screw over the consumers and eBay to be unjustly enriched. I would advise anyone who encounters any major problems to report your claims to the FTC and your state's Attorney General office, as it eBay’s position to avoid resolving issues. Moreover, file a lawsuit in court, as many states like Maryland, you are entitled to your money multiplied.

After eBay must answer to thousands of lawsuits. Maybe they will take the position of “practicing what it preaches” when it comes to the safety and security of its customers. As a FREQUENT, almost daily delivery, customer of Amazon, this is a matter that would have been handled immediately and resolved ten (10) times over with Amazon. That is the difference with the integrity and dignity bestowed within the companies.

With that stated, the campaign commences on June 1, 2018, to boycott eBay until it is prepared to honor its pledge with its customers, end its collusion, treat and honor its customers with respect and urgency and hire staff equipped to solve issues on an urgent basis. Companies of this nature only understand or care when they see the bottom line decline. Join me in eradicating their bottom line until they are able to live up to their pledge. I will also commence a class action lawsuit for the victims of this collusion. I chose not to be victim to eBay for another second.

They said they were selling cheap because they were being deployed, (similar to other stories) and they would arrange shipping of the vehicle. Got an official looking email from eBay Motors giving instructions on payment which included Visa gift cards and emailing the information and photos of the cards to them. We sent the info and the next morning "eBay Motors" emailed and said they needed $1000 more for taxes and shipping but it would be refunded to us upon receipt of the vehicle.

This didn't make any sense to us so we started looking online and found this site where we found reviews that sounded just like us! We called Visa to see if the cards had been processed. 3 of the 4 cards were pending. Visa froze the unused card and said we could dispute the other 3 cards once the transactions were complete. I contacted the real eBay 1-866-540-3229 and they verified that it was not really them, (eBay doesn't use gift cards), and instructed us to email all correspondence to car@ebay.com. They assured us that they had created a file for us and would assist in our Visa dispute. Hopefully we will be able to recoup the rest of our money! Too good to be true!

I seen red flags all over this. So I called eBay customer service and they told me they do not accept payment of gift cards only credit cards or PayPal. They also asked me to send the email to them so they can look into it. Thank goodness I followed my gut on this or we would have lost $1500.00 which is a lot to us being retired.

I ordered and paid for a car that I thought was on eBay Motors. Was instructed to buy eBay gift cards to submit payment. Yes, I should have known better!. Anyway, by the time I realized that I had been scammed, the scammers had spent one of the four gift cards. Called that night and was told eBay wouldn't do anything but that I should report it to the FTC. So I did that. Called back the next morning and was told, one of the cards had already been spent but that they would freeze the three remaining cards and I could call back in a week to get new numbers for those three remaining cards.

Well, now it is more than 2 weeks later so I called again. This time I was transferred to 3 different "departments". Finally got to a guy who said, yes they have my documentation (since May 24th) but it was still under review. There is no way to talk to the "department" that is supposed to be investigating this. This last person got frustrated with me, I understand, but he is not out $2000.00!!! Still waiting.

eBay and ConsumerAffairs saved me from a scam. I had answered an ad in a local paper in The Villages, FL for a 1993 Ford truck. I called the number, ** & left a message. About 10 days later I get a text advising me her aunt was the actual owner and email her at **. Caryn answered my emailed with a wonderful description. "Condition of the truck is excellent, no mechanical problems, very well maintained, never wrecked or involved in an accident, title clear, legally under my name, 69,035 actual mileage, 4x4, 8 cyl, automatic transmission, 5.0L engine size, burgundy exterior, gray interior. The price is $2,456." She said she got the truck in a divorce settlement & didn't need it, so selling ASAP. I replied wanted to see the truck, requesting a time to see it or meet her. She promptly sent me 12 pictures and stated the truck was in Enid, Oklahoma as after divorce she got a job there.

The truck was in a warehouse all packed up for shipping & the deal was through eBay Motors. I said I would purchase so promptly an email arrived in my personal email with invoice & instructions to pay with eBay gift cards in $500 increments as that was the limit on gift cards. Everything looked authentic. Called the 866-466-0567 eBay number on the invoice. It was answered eBay Support by Mary ** and she assured me the seller was only using eBay Motors for the shipping due to eBay protection, thus no listing on eBay auction website.

I then googled eBay Motors complaints and read your reviews. I called my husband, fortunately caught him just as he was about to get the cards to purchase. I located the real eBay support number 866-540-3229, spoke to Joyce who confirmed this is a scam. She had me forward my emails from Caryn to eBay at car@ebay.com. I called Mary back at the fake eBay number asking to speak with her supervisor, she said hold and then hung up. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM. Thank you ConsumerAffairs and eBay as I am truly grateful. I had purchased about 70 items from eBay, mostly collectibles and car parts, and I knew they always contacted me thru my eBay inbox and then confirmed to my personal email, WATCH OUT FOR ADS IN RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES AND FOR CARYN ** AND MARY **. AGAIN THANK YOU CONSUMERAFFAIRS AND EBAY.

I'm just adding this to confirm what appears to be an ongoing scam - possible abuse to be aware of when using eBay for buying cars. I found a car that sounded a bit too good to be true - necessary details were missing or were on the vague side, so I contacted the seller via email. She gave me the same story I'm seeing here: she was in the medical military service, going to be deployed shortly, and that's why the car was selling for such a great price. Then she asked me for personal info that she would give to eBay, so they could contact me with the transaction details. After reading the stories listed here, my experience was too familiar to those where people had been scammed. So - thank you for this website! I dodged the bullet.

It was most likely Craigslist, Aiken SC or Augusta, GA. Got a response in a little while from a person identifying herself as Martha, husband just died and has bad memories and just want to get rid of it. Sent me a link to view all the photos of it as there were none on the ad itself. Later she tells me she has moved to her hometown of Omaha, Nebraska and eBay is handling the sale for her. I went ahead with it as it sounded like a great deal and did not want to miss an opportunity. I got an invoice from eBay for the vehicle today and it appears to be legit, but too many unanswered questions!!! Called eBay support and got someone in Asia so I just hung up.

As a previous buyer on eBay Motors and buying 2 previous cars, I wanted to share a recent bad experience I had and was not resolved with eBay dispute resolution process. I bought a BMW on eBay, used the vehicle autocheck history option to check on the vehicle history, accidents, water damage and more. I was also told by the owner that it was "well maintained" and serviced. He said that there was nothing to worry about as eBay has a great reputation for selling quality cars. Well unfortunately, the car looked amazing, but was never maintained.

The service records for my "well serviced" were completely empty and not performed. I also was notified by the dealership that the vehicle was also in fact involved in an accident. I contacted eBay, as I was upset over several issues and was told because the car was 10 yrs. old... Tough luck! eBay said the only thing I could do was write negative feedback! What a joke. My advice, buy local, take it to a mechanic and have it thoroughly inspected. No more eBay Motors for me.

I pulled cash and tried to make arrangements to meet with him and finish the transaction. He was not available and said he would not be around until Monday. I told him that was not going to work for me and he is now in breach of his agreement.

He quickly called me and stated in a verbal conversation that he would refund my deposit and wanted to cancel the transaction because he wasn't available as long as I left him positive feedback on eBay. I agreed but never saw my refund. Three days later he text me and asked if I still wanted the car. I said no and asked where my refund was. He said he was still unavailable to refund. He then turned it over to eBay saying I never paid. I left him negative feedback on eBay but he was able to get them to remove it because he gave me a chance to purchase the vehicle 4 days after his deadline. eBay has a feedback system where buyers can give sellers a feedback; whether positive, negative or neutral. This method is supposed to give buyers an idea about how trustworthy each seller is. Well, this method is fraudulent and misleading because sellers can remove the feedback they don't like by claiming that the particular buyer (who wrote the negative feedback) didn't pay them. By opening a "no payment" case with eBay, the seller can remove the negative remarks and put a negative mark on the buyer's account (i.e. form of retaliation).

I contacted eBay about this car that I bought from a dealer in FL who had a 100% positive feedback on eBay when the car had numerous unlisted defects. eBay didn't do anything to protect me. They said that they will only intervene if the car was a total wreck and couldn't be driven. When I gave the seller a negative feedback, he opened a "no payment" case against me and was able to remove my feedback, even though that I paid him by a wire transfer, in full. I sent copies of all of my documents to eBay to prove my case, but the most they did was removing the negative mark from my account. I was not able to write a feedback on the seller who continues to enjoy a 100% positive feedback on his account and continues to run away with his lies.

Then a week or 2 later same car with a higher reserve is on it. Also if an item is priced at example $100 OBO, if I want to bid $75, it says must enter $101 to bid. That's not proper business nor is that what you are advertising. You are advertising that the item will go to highest bidder when there is no reserve. If it's $100 reserve, then say so.

The seller eBay handle Autotowncars AKA Dealership Name Globe Trading Financing Inc. AKA seller's actual name Ignatios ** is a crook who lied and scammed and robbed me. I bought a car he had listed on eBay. The ad said it was in "excellent condition." He told me I had to leave feedback before he would ship my car. He wanted me to leave feedback on something I had not received. This was the first red flag. I contacted eBay immediately. They said that was not right nor allowed. I contacted eBay also before sending my cashier's payment to the business Globe Trading Financing Inc. They assured me protection under their vehicle protection program. I felt reassured and then decided to mail my payment. Had I had known all of what transpired I would have never done such a thing.

I decided to drive 15 hours away to Florida to see this car that I was not allowed to have unless I left feedback. So I drove out there to see it. When I got to the dealership the dealer said my car was at a storage facility thirty min away and man who sold it to me was over not there. Upon further research and a little driving around I saw my car parked right around the corner. So they lied. I called eBay again to tell them what was going on - they agreed this was suspicious. I called the man and we wanted to meet him at his lot 3 PM. I went and waited by the car that was never moved. At 3 PM I walked over there. This man was never present. The other man Michael had the title in his hand. I asked for it and he handed it to me. He got the keys and walked over to the car that was there all along.

They had to jump it to start it. All these lights in the dash were on. The overheating light, the ABS light, the airbag light. It finally started and was on almost no fuel. We wanted to test drive it. We needed gas in it. So we told him we were driving it to the gas station to get gas. When I say we I am referring to me and my mother. My mother was with me the whole time.

First of all this car's ad says it was in excellent condition. It most certainly is not. The inside of the passenger door panel is all falling off. The bottom of the car is rusted out. The back window seal is not a seal - it's more like some thick glop of black goo all around it. It has sun damage on paint. It feels like it is going to fall apart when you drive it. The passenger door will not open. The key gets stuck in the ignition. The brakes feel like they don't work and are about to completely not work at all. It barely can stop. It will not drive in D, only in T which I have no idea why. It is leaking coolant everywhere, overheating and I have no idea what else is wrong with it. It is a complete lemon car. I think it needs something underneath because it literally feels like it is going to fall apart.

I knew immediately I do not want this hunk of junk. Then the car died at the gas station while getting gas. I called the police because when I called the man and told him I do not want it he won't respond to me. The police come and I meet them at the dealership. I drove the rental over. My mom stayed with the crappy broke down car at the gas station. The police officer told me this was a civil matter and unfortunately because the lack of laws in Florida regarding vehicles this happens all the time. This was the first time I got to meet this man as he was across the street at another dealership hiding. I begged and pleaded for him to give me my money back that I am a mother of three children and I needed a car that was reliable not something like this that is pretty much just a lemon car. I paid over 4,000 after everything was said and done. For what? To be ripped off!

Then I left and my aunt called me, told me about buyers remorse. Said I had three days to change my mind, told me to call the police back. I called the police back. This time I got the guy's legal name. The whole time he was avoiding telling me. I even questioned it with eBay who said it was okay because they were a dealer. Well now I know his legal name Ignatios **. If I had known that prior I could of googled him. I googled his business and could not find anything negative. But I googled his name after finding it out and turns out he has three other rip off reports on him.

Again I was told it was a civil matter. I then was looking over the title with my mom later that evening and realized he did me dirty that way too. On the title the dealer can reassign it up to three times. The last time was where he signed as the seller and left it blank for me the buyer. However the reassignment just above that was where carfax was the seller and sold it to his dealership. The problem is he never signed as the purchaser for that transaction. It was left blank. So technically according to this title he sold me something he didn't even own. The sale was void. I didn't want this vehicle anyway. I tried texting and calling about it and he just threatened me.

The last time I was at the dealership he told the cops he wanted no trespassing put on me because I brought the police to his business multiple times and it was not good for business. I never felt so much anger towards someone before. I did not lash out at him or curse. Instead I cried my eyes so hard my chest hurt. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I could not believe someone could be so cold I was in such disbelief. I was angry and hurt. I hope no one ever has to feel the way I did. It was completely horrible.

I went up to the police station and asked them if an officer could accompany me back to the dealership so I could show him the title and get my money back since it was not a valid sale or get him to sign it so I could at least resell or fix this junk vehicle. The police officer told that it was a civil matter and he would not send an officer with me. I told him about the no trespassing. I did not want to go to jail. That was the only thing that could make this nightmare worse.

The police officer literally told me that there are 298 officers in the town and everyone does things their own way. That there was a 50/50 chance of me being arrested. I could not believe this. I had to try. I took my mom with me and we went up there later on. What happened next was even worse. I went up there and asked for my money back. He told me no and I wasn't suppose to be there. I told him he hadn't signed the title the sale was not valid. He reached out for it. I asked him to sign it and make it a legitimate sale so I could at least get tags when I got home. The tag company I went to in Florida said he had to sign it so I could get tags.

He didn't give the title back to me. He told me to leave or I would be arrested for trespassing. He kept the title. So now I have a broke down lemon car and no title. I called the MVA in my state and I need the title to tag the vehicle no exceptions. I have notified the department of motor vehicles in Florida of his illicit business practices and hopefully they will go after his bond. He ripped me off of over $4000. It was not right. It was not fair.

I have notified eBay relentlessly and have been seeking their help as well. I have notified the Better Business Bureau, the federal consumer protection agency, the internet crimes division, the police, the social media, the press, and I have sought after legal counsel. I stand by my feedback and this seller should not even be allowed on eBay and has no business selling cars either. I hope he loses his business license after this. To know I am not the first person to be scammed by this man is very sad. I hope I can prevent this from happening to others. I pray he finds God and one day changes his ways. I have been praying on this and that is the only thing helping me through this nightmare.

I would like to be refunded for the $299 deposit I paid via PayPal with a credit card, the $3546 cashiers check I provided, the shipping cost of $495- cashiers check (cost of shipping the vehicle from Fort Lauderdale to Maryland), and the cost of my hotel stay in Fort Lauderdale $199 via credit card, cost of the vehicle rental to drive to Fort Lauderdale to pick my car up which was $81.84 via credit card and the gas to and from which rounded down is $200.00. I am asking for a refund of $4,820.84. If I cannot be refunded for the hotel stay, rental car and gas I understand but I think it is more than fair I be at least refunded the full total price I paid for the vehicle plus the shipping charges I had to incur which totals $4,340.00. eBay should refund me.

They tried saying because the vehicle is over 10 years old it isn't covered. I don't have a title. It should be covered. They promised protection all along and made me feel safe and secure about this transaction and now they are not helping. eBay stop helping criminals defraud people and instead stand behind your consumers you promise to protect.

One of the ballasts didn't work right away so I had to buy replacement from my local store (didn't have time to wait for replacement shipped from eBay), while another lasted only 2 rides and died off as well. Bulbs came without reflector housings - meaning I ended up blinding all drivers in the area. The whole kit was of much worse quality than I expected, even though I didn't hope for much. I ended up buying both new ballasts and DIY reflectors and spent hours and extra $ just trying to make the whole thing work, which is way far from advertised plug and play design. This kit was major disappointment and headache. On top of everything seller refused to issue a refund and closed the case for me so that I couldn't even leave the feedback. She wanted to sell that car because it brought back too many memories. That I need to send my name, my address and phone number. So I did and not even 5 mins I received a email from eBay motors. Say I needed to download the invoice and read it. So it had a place where I could chat with somebody. The name popped up as Anna **, she gave me more info and I downloaded the invoice. It said I needed to buy 3 $500 iTunes cards and send them a picture of it which I did not.

So later on I was to ask more info just to see if I would talk to somebody different. Nope same person's name popped up Anna **.. So I asked her why the iTunes cards and she said that they have a contract with Apple blah blah blah... I told if the car wasn't what I wanted then I couldn't return the cards and she said that they would send a check or money order. Then I told her that it's just weird that I ended up talking to her again I never get anybody else. Then told her that I was going to contact the BBB and then she left the chat. No reply, no nothing... This is so a scam so don't do it... Because I was about to do it and I would of been out of $1500. Something needs to be done to whoever this is. Please read this. This is a scam with a lot of victims! I replied to an ad on Craig's list for a 2007 Honda CRV. Jessica ** replied back and said her son of only 26 years died in a bike accident, that the car belonged to him and brought her bad memories. She told me she only wanted $2,000.00 for the car with only 93,000 miles on it. She said that it was in eBay motors warehouse #11 in Lynnwood Washington and that someone else had agreed to purchase the car from out of state and it would be shipped to me at no additional charge, as she had already paid shipping for that person. She said her and her husband travel for work and the deal would be done through eBay motors for the protection of both me and her.

I agreed to purchase the vehicle from her and an email from a FRAUDULENT eBay motors was sent with instruction to purchase $2,000.00 in eBay gift cards, which they required I pay for in cash, no debit or credit cards to cover their criminal tracks. Luckily I did no such thing after I read some of the reviews on this website from people who have already given her money for the same car, and other vehicles she is scamming people with. I want everyone to know that I have contacted the FBI on the behalf of all the people who have given this woman their money, and I strongly, strongly suggest that anyone who has been victimized by her do the same at fbi.org/contact us. Scroll down on the page until you see a link for their internet crimes division.

Give them any information, no matter how vague, that you have, what website you found her posting on, her phone number, her email address, a description of what happened, how much money she took from you, the name of this website where they can find more victims, anything you can give them. If the FBI receives enough of these complaints they will be forced to make this case a priority and the sooner you will get your money back and she will be brought to justice. This makes me very angry that any human would concoct such a vile lie in order to steal from trusting and empathic citizens. I really hope all of you that have been scammed, and those who are about to be scammed do as I did and contact the FBI. You don't need a lawyer, once she is in prison where she belongs you will be reimbursed. The best way to make sure that happens is to contact the FBI directly, and remember don't go after eBay motors.

What she sent you was not from them. It was a FRAUDULENT email, eBay motors had nothing to do with this scam. I wish you all the best, and together we can get justice. God bless you, and be careful. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Even if they use such evil methods to fool you. Be well, and good luck I've got your back and I will help you fight to ensure she meets the justice she deserves! One more thing, it is very important that you KEEP ALL receipts, emails, and any other evidence you might have!

It is plain as day what goes on with every car they sell daily. I even showed the person I was talking to at eBay Motors on the computer as we talked. They all are in agreement yet NOTHING has been done to stop it. They sell cars on Cars.com with a posted price which is a good thing. On eBay they list them with no reserve yet they have a lot of different shill bidders running the prices up on unsuspecting buyers. It is a crime and they need to be prosecuted for the actions. At the very least they should be removed from eBay once and for all. Thank you for this chance to let consumers know that there are bad sellers on eBay Motors and this one has to one of the worst.

This is the first time that I have used eBay motors and my last. I listed my motorcycle with complete details as to its condition, location, and where I would ship to. As offered by eBay, I required a $100 deposit within 48 hours and full payment within 4 days. I contacted the buyer congratulating him on winning the bid and reminded him that a $100 deposit was due in 48 hours, no reply. 48 hours came and went and no reply. I contacted eBay and was told that the deposit did not mean anything and I had to wait the 4 days if he did not pay full, and to then to file a nonpayment claim then. What good is a deposit requirement if it is not enforced?!? 4 days came and went and still no reply or payment so I made a non-payment claim.

Later that day, I received an email from the buyer stating that they did not want the motorcycle because: it was too far away and they did not want to pay shipping and that it needed work, all of which was extremely detailed in my listing. What a moron. I sent a message to eBay concerning the claim containing the buyer's email assuming that it was now resolved and I could relist the motorcycle, was I ever wrong!!! I received an invoice from eBay the next morning for the fees on the item that WAS NOT PAID FOR AND THE BUYER SAID THAT HE DID NOT WANT.

I called eBay AGAIN questioning the invoice since the item is not really sold and was told that even though I sent eBay proof that the buyer is NOT going to pay for the item, I cannot do anything until after the claim runs its course and can be closed 7 days later, I could not even close it myself. And if I cancelled the transaction (which is the only way I can relist), I would have to pay this fee. I will have to close the claim in 7 days to get a refund on the fee and not before, and if I do not close it within 37 days the fee will stand. This is because per eBay's instructions, I filed an unpaid item claim when the buyer said that they were not going to pay. This locks the item for 7 days even if the resolution is prior. So I cannot relist the item OR even send a second chance offer to other bidders who did not win the auction because this moron screwed me.

As I suspected, the seller pays eBay but the buyer gets the protection. If a transaction goes smooth and the seller pays, there is no problem. But if the buyer changes their mind, the seller gets screwed. Keep in mind that if a buyer does NOT pay, you MUST file a claim to receive a refund on the fees and this will prevent you from doing anything with the item for at least 7 days. Not only that but a seller cannot leave negative feedback about the buyer in this situation so the buyer can keep playing games with others. So in essence, eBay offers the seller nothing and the buyer everything even though the SELLER is paying for the auction. It's pretty bad when Craigslist is a better option. I hope this helps anyone who may be considering using eBay to sell.

Please note my feedback is based on what was for me, an incredibly emotional and disappointing pre-owned purchase experience. I attempted to buy a pre-owned car from First Acura in Seekonk Massachusetts in mid-February 2015 on Ebay. Based on the written and verbal description of the car as well as my excitement, I made the choice to wire transfer the full purchase amount to the salesperson. After my decision to send the full amount, which clearly was a mistake on my part, I discovered a potential mileage discrepancy problem on the vehicle as reported by Carfax.

It is my opinion this information should have been disclosed upfront and the salesperson and or dealership more transparent about a fact that could have a significant impact of the resale value of the pre-owned vehicle they were attempting to sell. Once I discovered the potential mileage discrepancy reported by Carfax, I attempted to get a full refund on my purchase and instead felt bullied by the salesperson who did not return any of my calls but did respond via email once. Out of my own desperation, I agreed to forfeit more than a $2,500 deposit in order to secure the rest of my funds.

I attempted to utilize the VPP service and they were not interested in learning more facts related to my concerns (i.e. email correspondence). I feel as if I did everything to get a refund, to include escalating the situation to two different managers on duty and am embarrassed I was not smarter and did not run the Carfax report prior to wiring my funds and for believing in trust and transparency. I found a car on eBay and the ad stated "Pristine Classic Cars". The car was listed as everything works even the clock. The clock was about the only thing that worked, all original paint and garage kept, ice cold A/C with 62K miles and the Co. has 100% positive response back. Was that all a false! The ac did not work, the heater core was disconnected so no temperature control, the carburetor had been replaced and needed to be replaced again. The radiator was rusted and needed to be replaced along with a hose and the radiator core could not be reused as a core. The spark plugs were all fouled and the wires needed replacing, the chrome on the bumper was stained and the Lincoln grill and hood ornament were bubbles and peeling. The radio and cassette did not work, the leather seats were all cracked a dye and the door storage compartment covers were off and in the back seat.

The paint was said to be original. Some was but there was over spray on the pinstripes, chrome. Windows and the cruise control button was missing and I was promised a button which the ad said was on order but it is not available unless you can fund new old stock somewhere in old inventory or online and worst of all a cracked windshield which had been fixed and could only be fixed by replaced by a new windshield. I tried to work it out with the owner I had been dealing with: Michael Calhoon and I ask him to fix the car, exchange the car or return my money and he offered me $200 plus a heater core. I have spent over $2000.00 to get it running and I have estimated for approx. $4000 to $5000 to get into the shape to compare to what the ad stated on eBay and on www.mjcclassiccars.com, his website.

I did not see any negative postings until after I purchased the car and mainly from the 100% positive posting. And I was told the I had to wait on delivery because his mechanic had to check it out to make sure it was ready, what a joke. In my day there were dishonest companies but not like I have seen, MJC classic cars. I called and sent certified mail to eBay and eBay won't respond. I just got off the phone with the guy I won it from and I told him I would pay him in full. eBay said that's not going to happen, today but did offer to let me pay a down payment. That would do nothing for this guy I just won the truck from. He wasn't paid, and paid now! Next, I call them up (eBay), wait again, then put on hold. Are you kidding me!

Next, another person as me to hold (again, I'm on hold). After some time, I then am put through to auto department, you think! Hold on for this, you are not going to believe me - "I'm sorry, the problem is on our end." You think? "We are sorry," I'm told, "but we will let you pay a $500 dollar deposit and we ask the seller after we hang up with you, and tell them it's on our end." I then tell them, "I'm sorry, but I need to pay the whole amount. "Sorry," they say, "but you cannot at this time do that. But we are sorry for the problem we've caused you." I then tell them (the eBay person I've been talking to) that yes, it would be a really good idea that they call the seller I've just won the truck from on eBay, and hope for the best. Unacceptable!!! After more than five years, things have changed not to the good, but to the worse! It didn't take long before you guys give us out to the wolves!

Now car dealerships charge us for their listings, only to turn around and pass onto us, charge it back to whoever wins the auction!! Dealer fees, paperwork, DMV so-called fees, fees for filling out the paperwork for you, so to speak, right!! Or a $20-80 dollar fee for so-called temp tag! Or cleaning fee (you got to love that one). Who sells something without cleaning it? I'm thinking, I'm done. You already have my bank account info and it's end date! And you get paid very well for me buying or selling that now, you decide if and when I can pay with my own money, when I can or cannot buy anything! The problem - on your end!!! My money - I should be able to spend it when I find the need for anything I may or may not want to buy!

A month, still same message: "Please fix the items in red." YOU JUST LOST ANOTHER CUSTOMER AND I LOST ANOTHER TRUCK!!!! Thanks for teaching me... Be careful who you trust, because they may just not care! Thanks for teaching me..... Be careful who you trust, because they may just not care! It's about them, and what they can get out of you! Last, what was once a good place to shop and buy has turn into something really bad!! You guys started out strong, but then something happened and it's still not fixed. It's not even close to what it use to be!

EBay had a car for sale, no reserve for parts. Watched auction for 2 weeks. As time counted down by day, then hour, then minute, I put in bid with one minute left for $501. All of sudden got email that item had been listed wrong and seller would have to re-list it. Next day I checked auction, 3 hours after I got email, another buyer got car for $550 dollars. But car was never re-posted for more bids and no new description was shown, so evidently, it's who you know at eBay gets you products, according to my experience!

After purchasing a power steering pump from an eBay seller ("abrosa" of Svb imports in Sun Valley Ca) I installed the part only for it to be found that it was defective. This was 2 months after installing part. Seller said to buy new one, return old and I would be reimbursed for the new part. I did this and returned old part to seller. After numerous attempts to resolve with seller, I finally got in touch with eBay (which took hours to reach someone). I was told even if it is covered under their stated policy it's nothing they can do after 45 days. This is totally unacceptable to me, so be warned, DO NOT BUY AUTO PARTS FROM eBAY!!!

Ad offering SUV for sale by owner. Sob story about her son being killed in motorcycle accident & now wants to unload his SUV, via ebay motors. Giant company in business for long time. No complaints I'm aware of. I believe the ad line: "Buy With Confidence". ebay holds the money until customer satisfied. Looks good to me.

I send the money, then get response from ebay: "now you must send another $1000 to cover insurance". Whoa! Large sum like that should have been put up front. No such mention. Not to mention most rental companies charge less than $50.00 for collision insurance. I tell ebay motors I don't have the money. Response from ebay: nothing. That was 6 days ago & still nothing. No response, no rebate, no SUV.

I sell used auto parts on Ebay motors and it is a pain selling parts on Ebay! They always take the customer's side no matter what. If the customers is dumb and orders the wrong part you still have to pay the shipping there and back. Even if the customer agrees to ordering the wrong part, Ebay still takes their side. My Ebay listings clearly states I eat no shipping there or back. It is extremely hard turning a profit selling used parts on Ebay.

Back in February of 2014 we saw a very nice vehicle on ebay being sold by Atlas Muscle Cars in Blueridge, Tx. Everything appeared perfect after reading its vehicle information and specs. We proceeded to attempt to purchase the vehicle through ebay and we ran into some problems. We were required to enter credit card information which we did not have. We normally pay cash or deal with wire transfer. We contacted ebay to request assistance in the set up and explained that we committed to buy a vehicle and informed them of our issue and we were provided a with an ebay pin and we were told they would contact us. A representative contacted us but because I did not recall the password we were told to call back. This was an on going thing for several hours and we explained that the seller was contacting us and we were emailing them through our ebay account. The ebay representative that assisted us the second time was able to see they were contacting us and they were also emailing our personal email. We were never able to find a resolution to take care of the issue we were having and we informed ebay that we were making a trip to Dallas to purchase the vehicle.

Upon making the trip to Dallas to pick up vehicles we noticed several issues on the vehicle that were brought to the seller's attention. The following is our story:

On and about the 6th of February 2014, I Robert ** made a 700 mile trip to Blue ridge, TX to purchase a 1969 Chevy camaro purchased off of eBay. Our contact person with eBay was Matt ** with Atlas Muscle Car. Though communication with Mr. Matt ** went smoothly arrangements with my wife Lisa ** were made to make the trip within 3-4 days of purchase to have vehicle picked up. Mr. Matt ** was kept informed of updated status on funds transfer and seller’s bank information was sent to us via email.

Upon arrival to Atlas Muscle Cars shop I Robert ** and my mechanic Beto ** made contact with a Harvey who was asked if we could speak with Mr. Matt ** and we were informed that he was unavailable. Mr. Harvey informed me that they had been trying to contact me on my wife’s phone and that they were not sure if I was making my trip to pick up the car. My cell phone# is registered on eBay which is why I could not understand why they did not contact me directly. I also informed them that my wife had already mentioned to Mr. Matt ** that I would be making my trip at 12:00 am on February 6th and that I should arrive before 12:00 pm.

My mechanic and I, Robert ** were shown to the vehicle where we noticed right of way the passenger and driver side door had a 1/2 inch gap and the bottom of the passenger door was out of proportion. A horn was also missing and we informed Mr. Harvey that this would not pass inspection with only one. I also noticed the windshield wiper pump motor missing and some wires hanging which lead me to look for the reservoir tank and it was also missing. When I asked Harvey he “how often do you use your windshield wipers” I then told him that this should be in the car and that it did not matter how often I used them. I also asked Harvey why the car did not have an inspection sticker and he stated that they had not taken it to get inspected. Harvey commented that I was a police officer and with me knowing a lot of people that I should be able to get the vehicle inspected with no problems.

The motor also had a loud knocking noise and my mechanic and I looked at each other and immediately asked Mr. Harvey about it and he replied that the car had been sitting for a while and that the oil pump needed to pump oil to the top of the motor. We let the motor sit for about 5 minutes and the knocking noise would come and go. I informed Mr. Harvey that I did not like the knocking noise and he advised it was nothing bad and that it only needed a little adjusting. I, Robert ** told Mr. Harvey that I needed these things fixed and that I did not want to take this back to the valley like this. I told him that I didn’t want to buy a car that I had to work on, I wanted a car that I could drive. I told him I planned to take this car home and drive it not store it and that I did not want my friends to laugh at me and he said “Don’t worry about your friends do they have a 1969 camaro.” “You are gonna be up ahead with this car, it’s all new.” Mr. Harvey said this was a dependable car and that I could have driven the car home to the valley if the weather had permitted it. He assured me that this was how dependable the car was.

The day was snowy and cold which is why I was not able to take the car for a test drive. I believed in Mr. Harvey’s word as a professional salesman that I would have no issues. Mr. Harvey suggested we go back into his office to wait for Matt. While in his office Mr. Harvey pointed out some pictures on his wall of different vehicles they had built professionally and won our trust by telling us of how they were first founded and how they grew through the years. Once Matt arrived he was brought abreast of where we were at on this sale and Matt assured me that this was a good dependable car and I repeated to Matt the items that needed fixing and informed him too that I did not want to work on a car and that I did not want the car overheating. I told him I planned to drive the car around and not have it sitting as a show car and Matt said that the car was ready to go.

Matt asked me what type of plates I wanted and I told him driving registration plates and he said “Do you want antique plates or regular plates”. I told him regular plates because I planned to drive the vehicle around. He then stated that it would be best for me to get antique plates because this way I only needed one plate, plus I didn’t have to renew registration for another 5 years, and insurance would be a lot cheaper. I told him as long as I was able to drive car daily it was not a problem. Matt provided me with the vehicle registration paper work and transfer so that I could sign, they provided me with the bank information for the wire transfer and then I asked Harvey and Matt to work on the items that needed adjusting while I left to make arrangements with the bank.

Upon my return I ended up with Matt and Harvey in the back of their shop and they provided me with the keys. I noticed that the bottom of the door was no longer out of proportion but the gap was still there. I then asked Harvey about the knock and he said that it would be best for me to get rid of the stock rocker arms and replace them with some high performance rocker arms. Nothing was mentioned about me needing these items prior to purchasing the car. It was only after the wire transfer was made that he made me aware that these items were needed plus more. He said I might even need a roller cam shaft but to him it only needed to be driven due to it being a brand new motor. I felt this information was known but withheld until they knew the funds were transferred.

I also noticed that a different horn was put in and it did not work. When asked Harvey told me that I could get an aftermarket horn set. I then asked him ”you mean to tell me that you did not get rid of the knock?" and he replied that I needed to break in the motor. He then said that I could leave the car there and he knew of a transport company that could transport the vehicle for a price. Again, this was not mentioned prior to the sale but only after. I took Mr. Harvey’s word that the motor needed running and he then proceeded to have one of his mechanic’s move my car onto my trailer.

While vehicle was being loaded I noticed license plate holder was missing so I asked how they were placing license plates on vehicles and they said that they had one but it was old so they placed an order for a new one. The part was currently on back order and they would have it sent to me when it came in. In the meantime, I was given a used one and I placed it on vehicle in order to install my license plate. I then made my way back to my home town in Donna, TX.

Upon arrival to my residence at 3:00 am I started the car to take it off the trailer and noticed the knocking noise was still there and noticed that the brakes were low and spongy. Vehicle was placed in my garage until Sunday the 8th which was my day off and I had my mechanic come by my residence and check the vehicle for the knocking noise and we determined the engine had the following problems:

    • Vehicle #3 piston valve rocker arm loose and appeared to have been adjusted more than the others
    • Due to these findings the top end of the motor had to be dismantled and the lifters needed to be checked.

    • One lifter was found to be damaged and from there the cam shaft was removed and found the timing chain was worn and loose cam shaft lobe was rounded off which was causing the knocking noise.

I then called Harvey with Atlas Muscle Car and informed him about the situation with the motor and he informed me that it couldn’t be that we must of done something. I then told Harvey that we had it on video when we dismantled the motor and it shows where the cam shaft was rounded off and there is a damaged lifter. Harvey then admitted to of been having problems with the company that was selling them the cam shafts and lifters. He then offered to send me $150 to replace the damaged cam shaft but was not able to help with the rocker arms or push rods which were the probable reason for the damage to the cam shaft. I also told Harvey that the rocker arms were rubbing on the valve covers and he stated that I may have to purchase different valve covers anyhow because of the new required roller rockers. He also stated that he was no longer going to buy valve covers from that company that was selling them the items.

The rocker arms are about $200, push rods are about $80, and valve covers are about $180 and Intake and timing gear gasket set about $80 as well. I then informed him that I found the motor to have dried burnt oil inside the timing chain cover and motor as if it was not cleaned right. I told him that he needed to talk to his mechanic about the used parts and the cleaning of the motor which he then replied that he was present when the motor was rebuilt but that he would talk to his mechanic anyway. I then asked, “You were present when they placed used parts in the motor” and he said that the parts were supposed to be brand new. I then mentioned that the driver side header was lying on steering box causing the dash in car to have a major vibration and he then replied that this was the way the headers were made and that this was the way they install them on all their vehicles.

I could not believe my ears when he stated that I would have to live with the vibration as it was. I then told him that the heads were not world casting heads as they advertised and that I found them to be stamped proline product heads and then I noticed a change in his vocal demeanor. I also asked about the missing ash tray and he replied that it was probably left on the table in the shop. He said he would have it sent to me. I then informed him that I had taken a close look at the car and found a roll of wires tide up and hidden behind the motor and he replied they were for the sending units. I asked him how they checked the oil pressure and water temperature if there weren’t any gauges in the vehicle and he replied that I would have to get that on my own. I then asked how they knew how much gas was in the gas tank if the gas gauge was not working and with vehicle having a new sending unit and gas tank as advertised you’d figure it was working. He then said I would have to look into getting an aftermarket gas gauge.

I asked how they knew how many miles the vehicle had as they advertised if the speedometer was not working. I told him that I had all of these findings in video and he then changed his vocal demeanor again. I then told him that I was disappointed with the vehicle due to our previous conversation and having to put work into a vehicle that should have been ready to drive and again Harvey replied that I was way up ahead because I had a new car. He then reiterated that he could only help me with $150 for the cam shaft and with all the disappointment in me and loss of words I told him to go ahead and send me the money for the cam shaft and to send me the information needed to install the proper gauges to avoid damage to the motor and from running out of gas.

While waiting for the check I found time to look the car over and found additional problems which caused me to again call Atlas Muscle Car and this time I spoke to Matt. I inform him that the vehicle did not have the seatbelts to pass inspection and he said that they were probably in the table with the ash tray. I then told him to check the table for the passing gear bracket which he replied that the part was on back order. I then informed him that the window crank roller for the driver side fell off and he replied that was what happened with Taiwan part as if it was funny. I asked for the information on the gauges that Harvey was to send me and Matt jumped onto the subject of another camaro that they had just received and suggested they could remove the seatbelts from that camaro and send them to me. I then replied that I did not want worn out seatbelts and that I hoped they were not discolored.

To this date, I have only received an ash tray, 1 oil sending unit and 1 water temperature sending unit for me to install. I have not received the information requested for the types of gauges that I needed nor have I received the front seatbelts needed for inspection. I have been unable to get vehicle inspected and I have been unable to drive this vehicle as I hoped for. With all this additional time waiting with car not running I found myself placing the camaro up on my shop lift and inspected the under carriage of the vehicle. Sadly again, I found additional problems with the under carriage of the 1969 Chevy camaro to include:

    • Front license plate bracket assembly is missing.
    • Both sides of front frame rusted through (holes)
    • Front fenders assembly rusted and has (holes)
    • Both rear quarter panels are not welded and sealed properly through the inner wheel tubs.
    • Front floor boards have several small holes improperly welded
    • Shifter cable missing rubber grommet (has hole under shifter)
    • Driver side exhaust header lying on steering box causing major vibration.
    • No parking brake wires or brackets to rear end brake assembly (parking brake not working)
    • Driver side front brake caliper hose leaking brake fluid
    • Used ball joints top and bottom (both sides)
    • A-frame stoppers used (driver and passenger front end old and cracked)
    • Rear leaf spring bushings front and back used (both sides)
    • Bolts to rear trunk spoiler were too long and had to be trimmed to length in order to have trunk close correctly. (paint has been scratched and dinged)
    • Driver side front fender bolts loose.
    • Transmission speed calibration sensor leaking transmission fluid into speedometer cable. (fixed by me the owner)
    • Trunk floor board not welded and sealed properly to frame.
    • Water leaks into truck
    • Water leaks under passenger dash onto carpet.

    • Water leaks into car through both driver and passenger side doors due to poor alignment.

Video is being made as vehicle is being repaired. We can add this video upon request if desired.

    • Vent controls on dash are missing.
    • Driver side bottom seat has a long crease due to improper installation of upholstery.
    • Tail lights are different (1 discolored and 1 new)
    • Dash vibrates due to driver side header lying on steering box.
    • Starter ignition switch starts up without car keys. (ignition switch is used and worn out )
    • Door hedges appear old and squeaky.
    • Front and rear tires rub on fenders
    • possible damage back brake booster diaphragm
    • rear exhaust mufflers rattle due to poor installation
    • Missing inner hood insulation mat which prevents motor heat to damage outer car paint.
    • While car is parked passenger rear side is lopsided (noticeable if seen from the rear at a distance)

    • Large amounts of silicone was used to cover poor welding on floor boards and other parts of bottom under carriage and then painted over to cover unfinished work.

With all these hidden issues coming to light I Robert ** have mentally exhausted my every intent to enjoy my purchase. My wife and I have searched for a vehicle of this year and make for over 2 years and we had spent countless hours and weekends away from family and friends just to find the perfect vehicle. My motto has always been to make a vehicle purchase of this magnitude directly from a one owner only. I thought giving an online purchase a chance wouldn’t be too bad especially when reading on eBay that this vehicle was as close as it gets to brand new and seeing the high 5 star rating given on eBay. We came to trust that our hopes and wishes may as similarly be fulfilled. We committed to buy because of positive advertisement and in turn we have spent our time and efforts into researching that we are in need of fixing and purchasing car parts that were not mentioned in the website’s vehicle description and specifics. We see this as a beautiful vehicle in the outside but its inner circulatory system is in need of repair in order to make it function properly.

This car would not have made it out of Dallas, TX had I; Robert ** decided to drive it home. Most importantly when it came down to the registration I clearly stated I would be driving this vehicle often and it was registered with antique plates restricting me to pulling it out once or twice a month for car shows or parades. Instead of bragging about this beautiful 1969 Chevy Camaro I have to make excuses for the work and exhaustion I am putting into it for it not being out on the road. We feel deprived of our dream and robbed of our excitement and it saddens us to see that this type of vintage collection was not worked on with heart. This was to be a great investment for us but instead we see it as a costly expense. When I, Robert ** shed to light several of these issues I was assured dependability which it does not have and I was assured no problems which are the only things I have encountered since I brought it home.

My heart and soul is into this vehicle which is why I humbly asked my friends for a lending hand. My friends loan me some seatbelts to at least get it inspected, they’ve donated car parts to get it running, and they have donated their time and services to assist me in making my dream function. I did not make a high purchase on a vehicle to put work into it as I made very clear. I made a high purchase on my dream vehicle to jump in and drive whenever I saw fit. I am making every effort possible to preserve this vehicle and welcome anyone to come and see the findings. I do not wish this experience on anyone who loves vintage cars.

We contacted ebay about this situation and we were directed to report this to IC3 who investigates online fraud. To this date we have yet to receive any type of assistance and we have yet to enjoy our dream vehicle because of extra parts and labor work that must be done to make this vehicle complete and dependable as it should of been at the time we purchased it.

EBay told me it was covered under their VPP program. I filled out all the documents and received an email saying I was eligible for reimbursement of the total amount of the vehicle plus the cost of shipment. I had to work with their 3rd party AIA (Auction Insurance Agency). This was an absolutely useless exercise. The agent basically told me too bad, the seller lied to you and we aren't going to cover it. I contacted eBay, sat on hold for 45 minutes, was given to an agent that couldn't speak English and kept repeating to me that I had to work with AIA. I asked to speak to a supervisor who repeated what the previous employee told me and was disconnected. So I have a vehicle that I purchased through eBay that has significant damage and eBay's response is add more insult than I've already encountered.

Vehicle was placed in my garage until Sunday the 8th which was my day off and I had my mechanic come by my residence and check the vehicle for the knocking noise and we determined the engine had the following problems: - Vehicle #3 piston valve rocker arm loose and appeared to have been adjusted more than the others. - Due to these findings the top end of the motor had to be dismantled and the lifters needed to be checked. - One lifter was found to be damaged and from there the cam shaft was removed and found the timing chain was worn and loose cam shaft lobe was rounded off which was causing the knocking noise.

I then called Harvey with Atlas Muscle Car and informed him about the situation with the motor and he informed me that it couldn't be that we must have done something.

I then asked, "You were present when they placed used parts in the motor," and he said that the parts were supposed to be brand new.

I asked him how they checked the oil pressure and water temperature if there weren't any gauges in the vehicle and he replied that I would have to get that on my own. I then asked how they knew how much gas was in the gas tank if the gas gauge was not working and with vehicle having a new sending unit and gas tank as advertised you'd figure it was working.

I asked for the information on the gauges that Harvey was to send me and Matt jumped onto the subject of another Camaro that they had just received and suggested they could remove the seat belts from that Camaro and send them to me.

    - Front license plate bracket assembly is missing. - Both sides of front frame rusted through (holes). - Front fenders assembly rusted and has (holes). - Both rear quarter panels are not welded and sealed properly through the inner wheel tubs. - Front floor boards have several small holes improperly welded. - Shifter cable missing rubber grommet (has hole under shifter). - Driver side exhaust header lying on steering box causing major vibration. - No parking brake wires or brackets to rear end brake assembly (parking brake not working). - Driver side front brake caliper hose leaking brake fluid. - Used ball joints top and bottom (both sides). - A-frame stoppers used (driver and passenger front end old and cracked). - Rear leaf spring bushings front and back used (both sides). - Bolts to rear trunk spoiler were too long and had to be trimmed to length in order to have trunk close correctly. (paint has been scratched and dinged). - Driver side front fender bolts loose. - Transmission speed calibration sensor leaking transmission fluid into speedometer cable. (fixed by me the owner) - Trunk floor board not welded and sealed properly to frame.

    - Water leaks into truck. - Water leaks under passenger dash onto carpet. - Water leaks into car through both driver and passenger side doors due to poor alignment. - Vent controls on dash are missing. - Driver side bottom seat has a long crease due to improper installation of upholstery. - Tail lights are different (1 discolored and 1 new). - Dash vibrates due to driver side header lying on steering box. - Starter ignition switch starts up without car keys. (ignition switch is used and worn out) - Door hedges appear old and squeaky. - Front and rear tires rub on fenders. - Possible damage back brake booster diaphragm. - Rear exhaust mufflers rattle due to poor installation. - Missing inner hood insulation mat which prevents motor heat to damage outer car paint. - While car is parked passenger rear side is lopsided (noticeable if seen from the rear at a distance). - Large amounts of silicone was used to cover poor welding on floor boards and other parts of bottom under carriage and then painted over to cover unfinished work.

With all these hidden issues coming to light I, Robert **, have mentally exhausted my every intent to enjoy my purchase. My wife and I have searched for a vehicle of this year and make for over 2 years and we had spent countless hours and weekends away from family and friends just to find the perfect vehicle. My motto has always been to make a vehicle purchase of this magnitude directly from a one owner only. I thought giving an online purchase a chance wouldn't be too bad especially when reading on eBay that this vehicle was as close as it gets to brand new and seeing the high 5 star rating given on eBay. We came to trust that our hopes and wishes may as similarly be fulfilled. We committed to buy because of positive advertisement and in turn we have spent our time and efforts into researching that we are in need of fixing and purchasing car parts that were not mentioned in the websites vehicle description and specifics. We see this as a beautiful vehicle in the outside but its inner circulatory system is in need of repair in order to make it function properly.

This car would not have made it out of Dallas, TX had I, Robert **, decided to drive it home. When I, Robert **, shed to light several of these issues I was assured dependability which it does not have and I was assured no problems which are the only things I have encountered since I brought it home.

My heart and soul is into this vehicle which is why I humbly asked my friends for a lending hand. My friends loan me some seatbelts to at least get it inspected. They've donated car parts to get it running, and they have donated their time and services to assist me in making my dream function.

So I find a Jeep on ebay and the mileage says 31k on it. I look at the autocheck and everything seems in order...No alerts. As I am driving it home I notice a number of things going wrong with it that you could only notice after driving it for a period of time...such as the gas gauge didn't work or that even though it said you were going 55mph you were actually going 70mph. Then the death wobbles hit...I am literally 50 miles away from the dealership and I call the guy and he says, "oh it just needs alignment...no big deal."

So I complain to ebay and they send me to some third party intermediary that sides with the dealer stating that I had ample opportunity to check on the vehicle. Now it is 6 months later and I am trying to sell it and guess what pops up on autocheck...an alert saying that the odometer may have been tampered with. Ebay says there is nothing they can do about it, which I can understand now, but when I first complained about something no being right with the jeep...they automatically send me to a third party to dispute.

I contacted eBay and explained the situation and they suggested that I contact the seller and if we could not come to a solution, have seller cancel the auction. I did so and seller refused to refund the deposit because it was listed as non-refundable. I later found out the seller did not have title to the vehicle at the time we were talking about the title and proof of ownership. I contacted eBay motors and they directed me to Jeff ** of their Auction Insurance Agency. I had to call him numerous times and emails before he responded to me. He said no refund because the deposit was listed as non-refundable.

Apparently, with eBay, it doesn't matter if you own the vehicle or not - I guess you can list any vehicle for sale and list the deposit as non-refundable and you can rip off as many people as you want and neither eBay or their Auction Insurance Agency will do nothing about it. I did learn one thing, and that is if you want to make a lot of money this way, eBay will do nothing about it. By the way, I have documented proof the sell did not have title to the vehicle!

He only gave one day to pick up the car on the 26th of December, which I was unable to do due to the holidays. I asked if I could pick up the car a different day and got no reply. After trying to reach him several times over the telephone, I find that he re-listed the item without consulting me about the purchase. The seller has been uncooperative and difficult to deal with. After he re-listed the item, the seller did not disclose the rust. So, this seller gets away with taking the deposit despite false advertising? Learned my lesson - pay to have someone inspect the car.

Misrepresentation of a car advertised and purchased through eBay – I purchased a 2000 Mercedes SL from eBay from a company called Performance Auto located at 3470 Hwy 69 N in Lufkin, TX, 75904. I dealt with a man named **. From the pictures on the website and the email conversations I had with him, other than the convertible top needed re-stitching, he said the car was in excellent condition. Upon delivery of the car, I drove approximately 50 miles; and the car broke down and needed to be towed to a mechanic. The problem was it needed a new pulley. I called **, and he said he would take care of repairing the pulley and replace belts which broke due the faulty pulley. He sent me a check for $500. Subsequent to that, I was driving the car and as it became dark, I realized there were no headlights, no tail lights and no turn signals. I once again had to pull over and leave the car. I called ** and also emailed him, and he said he would reimburse me which he has not.

If you contact us, we can let you know all of the other major issues with this car which totaled over $2,400 to repair. When I took the car to the Mercedes dealership to get an estimate on the lighting issue, they advised me that someone had opened up the odometer/speedometer case and had tampered with the mileage. In the dealership's opinion, rather than the 101,000 miles which ** certified to be accurate, there were more like 150-200 thousand miles on this vehicle. What is very suspicious is that according to CARFAX, there were only 100 miles put on this car in a 2-year period. Please contact me at ** or **. Thank you.

The car has no turn indicators, no spare tire or jack, no parking brake, bad dashboard and it was covered by a thin plastic that mimicked the dash. The radio doesn't work. There were no seat belts, no trunk lock although the picture showed one. The carb cleaner can't be attached. The engine barely runs and stalls from 1st gear to 2nd gear. A local car shop that deals with old Mustangs said it was worth about $4,500. I paid $9,200. The seller didn't state anything as not working. There are probably other things wrong. I'm a top rated power seller on eBay Motors and have been since 2004. I sell used auto body parts. In 2011, eBay chose to change their policy and instead of just charging the final value fee on what the item sells for, they decided to also charge it on the shipping cost. They had been pushing for all sellers to offer free shipping but that is just a marketing ploy since the shipping cost gets added into the cost of the item. Many of us on eBay can't do that.

On many of my items, shipping cost can be more than I'm asking for the item due to their size-like bumpers. I don't charge my buyers anymore than what it actually costs to ship so I don't make any money on shipping cost at all - and in many cases, lose money. In rare instances, when shipping comes out less than the buyer paid, I always refund them the difference.

But eBay has also set it that we can't be refunded that portion of the shipping cost FVF. How can eBay charge me a commission on a service that they do not provide? I have gladly paid the fees on eBay for all that eBay does and provides but in this case, all they do is allow shipping calculators in the ads. My buyers pay for shipping yet I'm having to pay eBay for those shipping costs.

When the vehicle arrived on the transporter truck, the driver could not even start it up. He had to push the vehicle off the truck, and into a parking spot. I finally got back in touch with Igor on January 7th. He said he will send someone to pick up the truck, and have it taken to a Ford dealer shop, and have the security alarm deactivated (that is what is stopping the truck from starting up?).

Choice Auto will pick up the bill. Fine, Capital Ford came to pick up the truck. A week later, I called Capital Ford to see what is taking so long to fix the vehicle. Ford advised that the truck has been fixed a couple of days now, and they are just waiting to get paid from Choice Auto (twice they attempted to make payment, and both times the payment did not go through).

I reached out to Igor again, and asked him about the payment issue. He apologized and said, he must have given the gentlemen the wrong number, and promised to take care of it. I also let Igor know I have not received the paperwork, and the 30 days tags on the vehicle. He also promised to look into this. It has been almost 3 weeks. I have paid out over $6,500, and I have no paperwork, and no vehicle. I don't even mind paying for the repair of the vehicle, which I plan on doing next week, but still, I am stuck with a vehicle that I can not register. All I am asking for is the paperwork. After being a devoted eBayer for 10 years, with 9 cars bought successfully on eBay motors, I realized that there is a missing significant element to protect buyer. Most transactions require a "deposit" to be paid within the first 24-48 hours after the auctions ends, usually it is $500. If you fail to inspect the car before making deposit through Paypal, you are making a free gift to your seller. According to eBay legal procedures, the deposit is in fact a non-refundable payment. Even if the seller totally misrepresents the car in the description and you realize that after paying the deposit, there is no way you will see your money back. Ever. That is because the non-refundable deposit is excluded from:

    A) eBay protection program (when buying car you are not eligible for it, only for VPP program)
    B) VPP - vehicle protection program is not covering the deposit

    C) Paypal excludes that because they consider vehicle as an "intangible item" which is not covered under Paypal program

I believe there must be some explanation why eBay enforced mechanism that secures the seller, but at the same time, the solution is non-symmetrical and puts buyer in a disadvantaged position. What is kind of funny is that if you do your part and pay the deposit, then make a couple hundred miles trip to pickup the car or pay and arrange for shipping, the seller can still open a case for an "unpaid item" which once closed, will put bad record on your eBay account and release seller from any eBay fees. Here is my story:

After paying $500 for a 19 years old Mercedes with Carfax proved 68k miles. I drove 300 miles to meet with the seller at his workshop in Philadelphia, PA outer metro area, with DMV trip permit and insurance in my hand. Once I arrived, George (which was his translation of a Russian name Yuriy) brought the vehicle. First impression: Excellent! But once I got into the car and started it up, I realized that the transmission was making knocking noise while changing the position of the lever, the differential (rear axle) was noisy even at 5mph on a parking lot and the power steering was not operable. On top of that, there was lousy paint/body job done on the left rear C-pillar. The trunk hood was sprayed (unprofessionally) with black color (the car's body is blue metallic) and the car was not equipped in leather seats, as claimed, but with cheapest vinyl option.

All that was not represented in a long and detailed description of the car. While the car was in overall good cosmetic condition, there was no way the car had 68k mileage as the seller claimed (consistent with Carfax though) and its condition was clearly misrepresented. Either the actual mileage was incorrect or transmission/rear-axle was replaced from a really high-mileage car. Once I expressed my doubts, the seller immediately drove away, refusing to refund my $500. Ebay, Paypal and Auction Insurance (eBay agent for VPP program) all refused to refund my money, based on the restrictions of their policy.

Have you ever been considering to set up a new business? Here is the tip: Sell a 10-20 years old (due to VPP restrictions) lemon (rare collector's car in bad condition is best) on eBay motors and describe it as good as you only can with nice picture of the car. Then just wait for auction after another, when your buyers will first pay you $500 and then refuse to pay the rest. Every time you get your deposit, you got your money. No eBay fees involved (only Paypal though)!

I saw a vehicle (2003 Honda Accord) for sale on Craigslist and contacted the seller. She informed me that the sale was to be handled by eBay because they had a buyer protection plan. EBay was to hold my payment till I received the vehicle and had a chance to check it out. Then eBay would release the payment. I then got an e-mail from eBay (I found out today that it was not eBay who sent the confirmation e-mail) as to how to proceed with the payment. Payment was to be made through Western Union. I made the payment and found out today that the payment was picked up on 10-5-11.

Today is 10-12-11 and I still have not received the vehicle. I called eBay and they informed me that this was a scam and they could do nothing about it. They also told me to file a claim with IC3.gov and my local police dept. My local police dept. informed me that they too could do nothing for me because it was an internet crime. So I am trying to let everyone know that this scam is going on and also advise them that this offender is using the US Air Force as a cover to gain the trust. The vehicle that I was trying to purchase was to be shipped from Madrid, Spain where the seller is stationed, by an Air Force cargo airplane. The e-mail of the seller is **. This is her info: **. After loading onto the back of our pickup truck, we paid the cash money $3200 and went home. A few days later, we were able to take it into town for an RV inspection/systems review. The professionals told us the unit should be totaled--needs new roof/new floor, floor is rotted, propane has leak, and more.

We have tried to contact this individual to return the camper and get our full refund back to no avail. This has all happened within 7 days, and I am wondering about the Lemon Law.

I had bid on a car on eBay and the advertisement stated that the '97 Mercedes was in excellent mechanical shape, ready to drive and in very good condition. So, based on this, I gave a really good bid and won. I paid for it seven days later. On July 20th, I went to pick up the car. When I started to drive the car home, after 60 miles, the car overheated. When I pulled over, the car was gushing oil from underneath, making me believe that the car had a blown or cracked engine.

Well, after this, I also purchased a truck on eBay. I lost $10,000 on that while the seller took off with my money. So, losing $14,000 plus expenses basically broke me. I have no confidence in eBay's business practices because they didn't help me. All they told me was that they were sorry even though the advertisement was posted on their site.

Hello, my name is Angella and I purchased a used Audi 2002 Allwheel Quatrro 6 on eBay on April 19th 2011. I have the listing from the dealership. The listing falsely represented the vehicle in many ways. Ebay's policy states that the seller must list all defects or issues with any product sold on their site. In the middle of filing a dispute with eBay I found out the seller took the listing down before the auction ended because he knew I was going to purchase it. What I did not know is he ended the listing "without" reporting the sale to eBay to avoid the fees that eBay charges. Therefore there is nothing eBay can do as far as protection to me, the buyer. They can give him a violation for not reporting the sale but this does nothing for me regarding that fact I have been ripped off. The listing as I understood completely was an "as is" without warranty sale. However knowing what is wrong with a vehicle before the purchase is why stating the truth in any advertisement is extremely important. I am a 41 year old, disabled mother of two young boys, which the seller/owner of the dealership knew as we discussed the care carefully over the phone before the purchase was made.

The owner Roy ** and his father Sal ** assured me this wagon was an incredible car and had no issues at all, as a matter of fact Roy assured me "his own shop mechanic" has to certify all vehicles before listing them or selling them. He told me there was absolutely nothing "major" wrong with the car. Understand that when buying a used car 2002 with 100k miles on it. I certainly expected some issues, but not what I was about to learn at all. The fact that I was told I was about to buy an extremely wonderful car in great working order was not only false, but an outright lie. I had the wagon shipped from New Jersey as its a 4 hour drive one way, and with being disabled I am only allowed to drive 15- 30 minutes (doctors orders), so the dealership from the start even recommended a transporter for the car, and said they use them all the time. When selling on eBay, its' a nationwide sales tool in which this dealership sells his cars on.

He is new to eBay and only has 90 sales which isn't much. When I contacted eBay, his response to them was "I told Angella to come look at the car before buying". Which is false. I told him I may have my partner drive out to take a look before buying but its doubtful with two children and a disabled woman who would be in chronic pain for 8 hours. So he knew from the start this was "not" an option. His reply to me was we sell cars on eBay a lot and we have no issues, as we transport them all over the country. I had the car shipped and dropped off right away my mechanic who happens to be directly next door to the Maryland inspection station. The mechanic immediately called me when the car was delivered and said, the wheels and tires on this wagon are very damaged, and he said in his option, I would either have to either buy all new wheels and tires, or refurbish the wheels and buy all new tires. He told me he would try to have the wagon inspected the way it was and see what happens.

He also said the car had an oil leak, that oil was dripping out from under the car slowly, and that he would let me know about that as time went on. The owner of the shop (Red Baron Motors) Michael, then took the car to the inspection station. The wagon failed inspection and Michael was correct. Not only were the wheels severely damaged (the CV boot needed to be replaced as well, and all 4 tires were unsafe to drive and failed inspection as well). In the listing on eBay there is no close up pictures of the wheels and tires. The emphasis was on the beauty of the exterior and interior of the vehicle which are incredibly nice. I certainly expected what the Mechanic (Michael **) at Red Baron Motors also told me, such as there are large deep scratches on the sides by the wheels, and in his option the car belonged to a person who parked against a curb, and this is why the wheels as well were so damaged.

I expected him to say there were knobs missing inside (to the navagation system) because of the cars age. Even though this knob was not mentioned and you can only obtain it from Audi's dealership at a cost of $338.00. He told me there was a entire panel missing from the bumper, and the front grate had a missing piece from hitting something. And the antenna was broken off as well as the radio didn't work. I was ok with all of these minor issues, as I said I expected these types of issues with a used car, but certainly not what I was about to face. The cost of the Audi was $6400 that I paid partly through a $300 deposit through Paypal and the rest was wired to the dealerships account. To me this is a lot of money, for a woman who is disabled and doesn't work, and it took a lot of struggle to save it.

I told the owner Roy that I have to stay within my budget and it was important to me that with two young boys I was buying a safe car that will last. He assured me this was the car for me. Once I replaced the wheels (all 4), The CV boot, and tires I was another $1700 in with labor. This was only the beginning. I told Roy I had $7000 tops as my budget and with taxes, title, and tags I was right were I needed to be. I also had to pay $300 to transport the vehicle. So now with the additional $1700 I was way in over my head. I emailed him as the mechanic inspected the car and advised me of the issues that were unfolding. He told me the wheels on that wagon that left this dealership were in good working order and definitely would have passed inspection because my mechanic signed off on the wagon. I said my mechanic knew just by looking at the wheels that they were severely damaged and the tires were bald, and would never pass inspection and he was correct.

Roy's response to me was the Shipping transporter had to steal, or switch the wheels on the wagon. I said, Roy this is an Allwheel Audi A6 and you and I both know (as I researched the car before buying it), these wheels are very specific to this Audi and you cant just switch wheels. He didn't respond. I said what are we going to do about this, and I mentioned my mechanic wasn't even complete with his inspection and there is an oil leak, as oil was dripping out on the shop floor, as well at the inspection station., He said :there wasn't any oil when the car was here at my dealership. Then he said "lets see where you are when the mechanic is finished." Which made me think maybe Roy will do the right thing and view all the bills as well as the failed inspection and pay back some of this. In the meantime, I asked for at least the $300 deposit back to go toward all the wheel and tire expense, he refused. My thoughts were if he can't help out with $300 what was he going to do. While I emailed him through eBay because this is their policy, he would not respond. When he finally did he said "I don't even know you, is this some sort of scam?" This is when I knew he did not report the sale to eBay to get out of paying their fees, and he just ended the sale. Very fraudulent from the start. I finally went down to pick the car up after it passed inspection and all the work was completed with the wheels, the CV boot was replaced as well as all four tires.

The owner at Red Baron Motors was backed up because he only has two days to work on, and my wagon was taking up much more time than anticipated. So Michael asked me to drive it home and see how it ran, and when he slowed down a bit he would furthur investigate the Audi. I drove the Audi home and smelled oil burning, and there is smoke coming out of the hood, then the Check Engine light came on two miles into my 5 mile drive home. So I turned around and the mechanic told me to park the wagon out front all his bays were full with other jobs. He ran a diagnostic check on it, as can only be done he told me once the "Check Engine" light comes on. It came up the Torque Converter was bad. This is a 10-12 hour job which is a huge labor bill, and he hasn't gotten back to me with the price of the part yet. They took off the oil panel and there was old oil stuck on the top of the pan. Michael told me it was a lot of oil and no way this was missed by any mechanic. Michael (my mechanic) told me there was a very large amount of oil under the panel. At this point I cannot drive the Wagon at all, and with these two major issues that have come up the Torque Converter and this large oil leak, I have no idea where we are in dollars. The owner at Red Baron Motors has to get some of the other jobs out of there shop before going into this any further, however he is ordering a new Torque Converter now.

He told me the labor hours on this job would be about 10 hours possibly 12. There is a lot that needs to be taken apart to get to the Torque Converter. He hasn't even begun this oil issue. I am so disappointed and frustrated. This is so wrong to do to a person you spent 2 days with on the phone going through the importance of buying a car in good running condition, as his listing stated. This is so wrong to do to anyone let alone a disabled woman. All the owner, Roy continues to say to me is I have been in business for 25 years, and I sell cars to doctors, and lawyers. I do the right thing and sell good working cars, he said my mechanic said the car was in good working condition. Well my mechanic begs to differ, and says he doesn't understand how any of these issues were not seen at the dealership. This is a disaster. Please help me in anyway you can, as I feel I was totally scammed. If this mans defense is he told me to come see the car, why did he set me up with a shipping company, and most importantly, why is he selling his cars on a Nation Wide internet Site? His explanation makes absolutely no sense at all. I appreciate your time in this manner very much.

I purchased from Ebay seller **, Monroe Auto, Parsons, TN a 2006 Dodge 3500 4x4 flatbed truck with undisclosed mechanical problems with a clutch that was not working properly, the reverse was extremely difficult as explained to me by the driver that delivered the vehicle.

Nature of Complaint: Received vehicle with undisclosed engine, transmission, body or frame damage requiring repairs in excess of $1,000.00 except for vehicles noted in the VPP overview page. The condition of various other items were not disclosed - right mirror broken, glove compartment did not close, and the handle to the emergency brake was broken with only a cable there to pull. It was noted in the listing that "has no mechanical problems" and the clutch went out completely before arriving home but the listing stated "Can drive anywhere today" We needed to get the truck fixed in order to get home, as it broke down 5 hours from home. So had to stay in hotel 5 days - the truck was towed (twice), parts were ordered, and repaired. We wanted to make arrangements with the seller. I called him to tell him at the time of breakdown, and then emailed to put it in writing. I then emailed to ask him how much he felt the cost of repair would be. I have not heard from him yet.

I knew it is important that I notify eBay within the 30 day time to quality for the VPP (vehicle protection plan), so filed the case at that time and hoping that we could still come to an amicable agreement. But still no response. I called Ebay VPP company AIA person but told the policy is that no repairs be made before approval. It took 9 days - no one would sit along a highway waiting for approval? eBay does not take calls, only email or chat. I emailed. My response is a canned answer:

It didn't take long for Autos Direct Online to get a company called NetNeutrals involved to try to get this negative feedback removed. After both of us told our side of the story, NetNeutrals ruled that the feedback should not be removed. Now this feedback stayed on their eBay page for over 30 days and all of sudden it just vanished.

EBay’s only explanation to me was that it was removed because I used the word Google. I asked them if they were going to let me rewrite it. "Everything works and runs excellent". I had the car shipped and when I got it, it looked so bad I was hoping it wasn't the one I bought. It was, major dents 12" or larger big time scratches, but these are minor compared to the engine and transmission. It died on me while taking it from the delivery drop off point.

It made it 3 miles. I had it towed to Kevens automotive on Marine Rd., 1200.00 dollars later it runs. trans still leaking about half quart a day. Needless to say, I couldn't drive it. So, another 450.00 dollars to get a new seal put in. So here is what I have, a 1985 Buick Riveria that was supposed to need nothing to a car that floods every time it rains, the windows don't work, the lifters sound like its going to break at anytime, still leaks fluids, speedometer doesn't work, the battery sometimes dies, short somewhere?

This car is in poor condition not excellent. I'm out of money to do anymore repairs. The seller sent me 200.00 because he felt bad about it. That won't even cover 1 window repair. He keeps giving me an excuse for not sending more. The shippers clearly marked all dent and scratches before and after delivery.

I understand the professional mechanics at this GM / Chevrolet dealer might not understand Dodge products, however brakes are always an inspection item during a service (just completed prior to sale), and most dealers /shops love to find items such as this as a source of future business. I purchased an engine and transmission on 6/07/08 from sellers on eBay that was described as "runs great" and "recently removed from a running and driving low mile 55 Chevy". This engine and transmission were to be used in an ongoing restoration project. The engine was found to be frozen up and two cylinders completely rusted. I sent three emails to sellers with no response. I was asking for 90% of purchase price plus 90% of shipping costs which totals $2612.

I was looking on eBay for a truck in my area. I found one that was at Metro Ford in Raynham. It was a 05 F-350 with 95k miles. They were asking $19,500 and the book value is $17,300 on it so they had a button that said "Make an offer". I offered $15,000 and I had a Mustang to trade. The next day a woman named Jennifer called me and said that she talked to her boss and it was good to go and to come on down so we could finalize things. I came down with my parents and we talked to a man named Joe. I told him my story and he said "alright I'll run it through my boss". He came outside and asked us if we wanted to drive the truck.

We drove it, came back and he sat us down and looked at my car. He finished with that and went over to the desk and took 15 minutes. He came back and told us that the KBB on the truck was $19,900. I told him I made and offer on eBay and it was accepted, so why were they trying to tell me that they wanted $19,900. I said I'm not paying that, I wanted the original deal $15,000 + $7000 for my trade, which it was booked valued at. They said they couldn't do that and my parents and I argued for a bit and decided to walk out. He then proceed to badmouth my car and how it's not worth it. I told him I want to talk to the manager, and he said he will get the owner. I don't know if it was the actual owner, but he came outside and greeted us.

I told him the story and he said that he never authorized that and he authorizes everything before it goes out. I told him I have an email stating it was a deal for $15,000 and he said "forget Jennifer she has nothing to do with it". He said that he needs to fix these trucks up and make a profit and how is he going to make money when he's selling a truck for $15,000. I then proceed to call them liars and they shouldn't do that to people. We started to get into the car and my father called the "owner" a swear word because he was mad about the whole situation. The "owner" started walking back to the car and said, "So you're threatening me, you're lucky you're an old man because I would kick your **". I think that quote right there proves that these people are not at all professional and don't take treating people right seriously.

Don't go to Metro Ford ever unless you want to get scammed and treated like garbage. No truck, no deal, liars, bad customer service, threatening remarks.

I was searching Craigslist and responded to this SUV ad that was frankly too good of a deal to be true. Anyways, he contacted me back via email. I have posted his reply below and provided a copy to eBay.

"Hello there and sorry for the delay. First of all, I want to tell you that the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2WD Laredo is still available, and the price of $3,500.00 includes all the shipping costs and insurance, so you won't have to pay any extra charges. I know that there are numerous offers on the web, and I'm glad that you choose to contact me regarding your willingness to purchase. The truck looks and works like new; it has only only 56,000 miles with a clear title. I want to tell you that we will use eBay in this transaction in order for both of us to be 100% protected and insured by them. If you're interested to purchase, just email me with your full name, shipping address, and phone number, so I can notify eBay that you are selected as my buyer and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.--Cecilia **"

In closing, I must say I am along with millions of other Craigslist users who are sick and tired of all the spam/scammers on your site. When I post something for sale, I do not have the time to deal with spam replies and people hijacking your account. Why is it even since eBay purchased a 25 percent share that they cannot get a grip and safeguard their users? I am disgusted.

On December 15, 2009, I purchased a 2007 Dodge Charger R/T Daytona with a mere 5000 miles on the odometer via internet sales from Peterson Super Center located in Boise, Idaho for the total of $26,000.00. I arranged to have this vehicle shipped to my home in Arizona via Northwest Auto Transport to the cost of $650.00.

In the past, I have purchased several vehicles online and have never had any issues. However when this vehicle arrived on December 17, 2009, the transport driver, my wife and I searched the vehicle for the usual envelope containing the keys/fobs (with remotes), owner's manual, and temporary 15-day permit (all promised by the salesperson). Much to our surprise, not only were they not anywhere in the vehicle, but during our search for these items, the spare tire, jack, and tools were also missing.

I was prepared to reject the vehicle. (The transport driver witnessed the missing items and signed a paper stating what we knew was missing at that time.) However, it was late and the dealership was closed. Besides, I had been searching for this particular auto with ow miles for some time. So I accepted it, hoping that the dealership would make good for the missing articles.

To make the story brief, after notifying the dealership, I finally agreed to accept a check of reimbursement for $500.00 to finalize the bickering (which barely covered the cost of the keys, fobs with remotes and having them cut and programmed). But better than nothing.

Finally, I was able to get the vehicle safely on the road with a spare tire, wheel, jack, and tools; and I have use of the keyless entry. I am a senior citizen and don't have a lot of savvy for all the "bells and whistles" that were allegedly on this vehicle. So I took the vehicle to a local electronics store to have them explain how to use the navigation, Sirius radio, etc.

Upon examining the vehicle, I was informed many things were missing that were listed on the internet advertisement. These are expensive things such as the navigation system, Sirius radio, remote start, 322watt amplifier, and sub-woofer. I contacted a Mr. Michael ** (General Sales Manager) and submitted a letter with everything that was missing (and fully acknowledging the $500.00 reimbursement). I was informed that he and the General Manager were not willing to refund any further funds.

I have a copy of the internet ad and have been slowly, as I can afford it, getting all the things replaced. Needless to say, even purchasing these items from places like eBay has been a huge cost to me. I have written several organizations (such as the Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission) without any success as to resolving this issue. I got a call from the local Senior Center informing me to write to the Arizona Attorney General's office, which I did and was notified that because the transaction took place in the state of Idaho, that my letter would be forwarded to Idaho Attorney General's office. As of yet, I have gotten no response.

Local attorneys have informed me that being the purchase was made in Idaho, I would have to seek an attorney in that state? This should not happen to anyone, let alone a senior citizen. And I hope you will be able to assist in putting a stop to this type of fraud. $26,000+ is a lot of money when you're retired and on a fixed income.

I have a paper trail, a mile long, with the dealership internet listing and other pertinent information, including an audible recording from my answering machine in which the salesperson is physically describing the vehicles components that did not exist as well as all correspondence from the dealership.

I requested what I felt was a reasonable amount of compensation for my out-of-pocket expense which would make the vehicle acceptable to me (minus the $500.00).

Or if they would rather, I would take the vehicle to an authorized dealership of their choice (within a reasonable distance) and have the advertised items installed at their expense. Of course, that was denied and I was then accused (via letter) by the General Manager of "holding them (the dealership) hostage or extortion." Needless to say, I am appalled at this accusation and would truly appreciate any advice as to how this issue can be put to rest in a legal manner. Thank you for your consideration of this matter.

I purchased a 2005 Honda odyssey from Gulf Coast Auto Brokers on E-Bay last Dec 14, 2009. The listing said that it was inspected and that the leather interior was extra clean with absolutely no rips or abuse and the van was equipped with 1 key remote. I had the van shipped from Florida to Great Falls, MT where I picked it up and drove it home.

There was only 1 key, no remote. There were 4 rips in the interior leather along with a large wear area on the left side of the driver's seat back. If the van was inspected, the following items were missed: back shock absorbers were leaking, with one almost empty and a howling sound which the passenger rear wheel was bearing which had to be replaced. In addition a piece of weather-stripping was missing on the passenger sliding door opening.

I was unable to talk to anyone who could make a decision on these discrepancies and was told to talk to the owner. I decided that it would be better to have a record of my contacts so I e-mailed them twice through E-Bay, with no reply. I located the password for the GPS, which was not supplied to me, and found out that it will not work in Canada and that I have to get an update. The costs to date including the GPS update will be $726.

I purchased a vehicle from this shady used car lot thinking they might be honest and if not that I would have protection from eBay (the avenue I used to solidify the purchase). Upon flying to TX to pick the vehicle up, I immediately noticed the air conditioning was not working properly and mentioned it to my contact Ric. I contacted my local dealer and was assured it wasn't a major problem and may only be $100 - $200 to fix so I did not worry about this matter and continued with the purchase. I was asked to finalize my feedback on eBay which I thought I had done but later came to find out that I must not have completed all the necessary steps to get it posted upon completing.

Well to summarize the rest of the situation, I returned to Denver, CO where I immediately took this vehicle to a Volvo dealer to do an inspection on the a/c. It was only then that I was informed that the vehicle was going to need much more work than that. According to eBay, the first step to resolution is to contact the seller and see if matters could be resolved. When I contacted my salesman Ric, he told me that he would talk to the owner and let me know. No less than 5 minutes later, I received a call from Robert the owner of Mansfield Motors. This call immediately had a negative overtone and Robert started right away calling me a liar and accusing me of trying to get one past on them. I told him that I was just taking the precautions to ensure I got a product that was represented to me in the condition Ric had given me (not to mention they said they already had their own mechanic go through the vehicle and it was in great shape).

Well on the contrary, the vehicle had a bad CV boot on the passenger side, an upper strut cushion that was rotted out and finally a sensor that controls the a/c. The vehicle has other minor things wrong with it but nothing that I wasn't prepared for or willing to look beyond. After my communications with Robert at Mansfield Motors, matters had just simply deteriorated to the point of no resolve. I have been told to drive the car back to TX and that my gas would be paid for but that is not nearly worth the 12 hour drive that I already made once to get home.

I have contacted eBay and they too are just as bad in the matter that they didn't even qualify the full matter that not only did I get a horrible product based on what was described to me but I also ended up paying more than the price that was listed on their website and still nothing was done. All I can do now is run this car through an auction and cut my losses and take this as a life lesson to never trust eBay or an out of state used car dealer like Mansfield Motors in Mansfield Texas! This overall cost is at least $1,000 by an independent repair shop and was initially quoted to me as a $1,500 repair by the dealer.

I went on eBay to purchase a vehicle. I won the bid and contacted the dealership the next morning and made arrangements to drive 6 hours each way to pick up that morning. Brandon said that he would have detailed and ready for us. This was on a Saturday morning. After two and a half hours of driving, Brandon called to say there was a problem with the car (PT Cruiser Convertible). When he drove to fill with gas and make sure everything was ok, he noticed smoke and took it into their shop and said that the radiator was gone and that the part had to come from Dallas and probably would be in on Tuesday and that they would fix for free bring the car to us unless we just wanted to scrap the deal.

We decided since they were going to fix the issues and bring the car, we still very much wanted the car that was for our daughters 1st car. I received a call from Brandon on Monday evening saying that there was a whole list of things wrong with the car that he was going to have to have fixed and that he would get a list together but didn't want to put us into a really messed up vehicle. We emailed him to find out why they were still advertising this vehicle but now they had dropped the price when we were buying this car. He said that he could not remove the ad but could change price on it and even though to the public didn't show sold, on their side showed sold. My question was why change price on ad if sold. My husband emailed questioning that and when should we expect to get list that he said he would get to me. I received a pretty nasty email from Brandon saying that this deal was going to be more of a headache so he was not going to pursue the deal any further.

I called him back and he advise how they treat a car that goes on eBay and that ball joints were gone and since I knew it needed new tires because they were all bad. I was never told until he said it at that moment and that the window was messed up and that he barely got it to go down to take the pictures with top down, which was not disclosed as well. The pictures were taken before because they were on the website when we bid. He said that they had that car listed on eBay several times and that they had had for a long time and it had been driven over a thousand miles since they acquired the car.

He kept saying how he was doing us a favor by not putting us into a bad vehicle. They should not have listed a car that was in great condition including running condition when it obviously has major problems. If we had decided we didn't want after we agreed to purchase, we would still be expected to purchase but because he didn't want to fix all the issues, he was going to pull out and not be held accountable.

This dealership has no integrity like most car dealers. At the end of my conversation with him, I reiterated that he was not willing to now fix issue with car, bring to us and sell to us and he said that is correct. We then put negative feedback on eBay because we did not get the vehicle they posted because of them and he complained about the feedback saying they could not have foreseen that it was such a messed up car.

He said in our conversation that would probably wholesale or try to sell to another dealer just to get rid of it because it had moved around to several of Gene Messer’s lots. It is very upsetting when dealers try to take advantage of people just to make a quick buck. They should be held accountable for their choices. We are now out of a vehicle, lost out on other vehicles could have had and 5 hours that we spent going out there. They should have to fix the vehicle to make it in great condition as it was said and deliver to us as agreed. We are now out of a vehicle and will probably have to spend more money to get what we should have from Gene Messer.

After the successful bid, I requested a copy of the title from the seller. It was faxed and showed no liens, encumbrances; it was clean. After a bank wire payment, the seller delivered the car to a location I had selected for pick up and eventual transport from Florida to California. Week after week went by with no actual title being received.

After one month, the title was received and showed the vehicle was actually recovered salvage. The seller had obviously "whited out" this fact from the title copy he had sent prior to payment. The seller then conveniently disappeared from the planet. Contacting eBay, they said simply they could not do anything after 30 days from purchase date. Because I had wired funds, PayPal claimed no interest either. Despite numerous communications back and forth, eBay claims the action they took on this issue was enough and not to write or call any longer. I would recommend anyone using the eBay system to physically examine any vehicle in person prior to purchase and to inspect paperwork.

    eBay let me down!
I have been an eBay member for over 12 years with a current feedback rating of 12,648 100% positive. Early on I was one of the top sellers on eBay, which means I helped get it started. I have never left negative feedback until a recent purchase of a Bluebird motor home from seller floridaRVs. It is difficult to explain how deceptive the ad for this motor home was without you seeing the actual condition of the unit. I was so discussed that I donated it just to get it out of my life, loosing $24,000 on the deal. My complaints to the seller were to no avail and of course arguments over the condition are subjective. However, the ad was for a 40 ft. motor home and it actually measured 37 ft. outside of front bumper to outside of back bumper. As it was not as advertised I expected eBay and PayPal to assist me with my dispute but that did not happen. PayPal’s VPP policy warranties that the price paid on eBay will be less than the NADA average retail for the model actually received. As the NADA for the 37 ft. was more than what I paid on eBay I was entitled to nothing from VPP. In fact very few buyers will pay NADA average retail on eBay so the warranty is worthless. My only recourse was to leave negative feedback for the seller to warn other eBay buyers. But eBay’s feedback oversight company NetNeutrals removed that. The seller requested that the feedback be removed and NetNeutrals sent me an email notification to an address where I receive 100s of email a day and had never heard of NetNeutrals so it was deleted unread. The seller claimed that they measured the unit at 40 ft. Any independent person with a tape measure could easily prove this clam false. So I’m left short $24,000 and the fraudulent seller is free to cheat another eBayer. Lorenzo Gordon eBay user BygoneTimes

On Monday morning 08/17/09 I've ordered independent inspection from SGS Automotive, since I've found that the dealer has lowest rating F on BBB.org. SGS scheduled inspection on 8/19/09. The were pictures provided by inspector, which show the car has rust on Front Engine Compartment more than 12", corrosion on Exhaust System/Muffler more then 12", rust on Undercarriage more then 12" and pictures of rust on the bottom of the car bellow the doors on the left and right side. I called Amanda at the same afternoon after receiving the report left voice mail. Since she did not called me back, I've send her the e-mail at 5.30 pm with pictures of the rusted parts attached asking for my deposit back and stating that I will not buy the car, since the car was not as advertised and description of the car was misrepresented. She replied next day that they would not return my money. Talked to the Phad sales manager next day. He also refused to return my deposit. If they would described the car truthfully, I would not tried to buy it in the first place. They undisclosed the rust and corrosion on the car, and that car was prier rental. On 6/18/2009, I bid on a car through eBay (item #200347421744). I was informed that I had won the auction the same day. I placed a phone call to the dealer and discussed the condition of the car with their internet sales person (Joe **). Since the car was used and did not come with a warranty, I discussed the condition of the car with the salesman. After he assured me that the car and all cars sold at their dealership had been thoroughly inspected for major problems (a service they charged me $699 to perform), thus assured, I paid a $1,000 deposit via debit card over the phone. On 6/24/09, I made the 100 plus mile trip to see and test drive the car. Joe (salesman) accompanied me on a test drive, where again we discussed the inspections the car had received from the dealership. During this test drive, the car preformed very well and the A/C blew very, very cold. We specifically discussed the A/C as I had been burned by this on my previous auto purchase. Assured and satisfied, I purchased and paid in full for the car.

On the drive home, the car and the A/C preformed well. The very next day, I noticed that the A/C did not seem to be blowing quite as cold. I wrote it off as an extremely hot day. However, the next day, 6/26/09, the A/C was blowing warm air at me. At this point, and with previous experience, I knew I had been duped. I made an appointment with Ice Cold Air, a local A/C repair shop. They ran a simple dye test at no charge and confirmed my worst fears. The A/C compressor was riddled with leaks and had to be replaced. An estimate of over $800. I discussed this with the A/C shop manager (Joe **) and he told me what I already knew. Because the refrigerant would leak out in a 24-hour period, the dealer would have had to fill it full of refrigerant just prior to my test drive in order for it to blow cold at that particular time. Having filled it with refrigerant, it is clear that they should have preformed a simple, inexpensive dye test on the compressor (especially if they were charging me $700 inspecting the vehicle). The A/C shop manager assures me that he is willing to discuss this with anyone wishing to do so.

On the same day, I called Joe (car salesman) and attempted to discuss the matter with him. He abruptly told me there is no warranty and refused to discuss it further. I also wrote to the general manager and have received no response. I am sure I was defrauded by a dealer, using the internet, that deliberately covered up a major defect in order to sell me the car. If not for the internet, I would never have known about the car or the dealer. I have reported this to eBay and they have offered no help except that I should contact you. I believe it can be confirmed by experts in the auto A/C field that there is no other way the air could have blown cold for such a short period of time. I am 68 years old, living solely on disability Income. I used my entire savings to purchase what I hoped would be my last car for many years. I took the precautions of using eBay, getting a Carfax and paying for a very expensive dealer inspection fee. I cannot afford to repair this car and in the Florida heat, I cannot drive it during the day. Please help!

The car was finally shipped to us on 6/17/09. The car did not run when it was received. It started, but immediately stalled out. Our Mercedes mechanic looked at the vehicle. Even after tinkering with the car for 2 days, the car will not run. According to the Mercedes mechanic, the car has major mechanical issues. The gas tank was full of sludge. Our mechanic informed us that the gas distributor is totally gunked up and cannot be repaired. That part alone is at least $3,500.00 not including labor. The heater core has been disconnected and all the hoses to it removed.

That is another very, very expensive repair. The exhaust system is falling off. The four tires that were advertised on eBay as brand new are old, completely dry rotted and need to be replaced. Neither seat is operational. The emergency brake doesn’t work. The new receiver/dryer for the air conditioner is the wrong unit, which caused someone to alter the wiring on the front of the car. The timing chain, which you the seller said was replaced, has not been replaced and is another expensive repair. For the few seconds that the mechanic got the car running, he could tell the timing chain was clanking and needs to be replaced. All the above are the items that so far we have been able to detect as mechanical problems with the car; however, since we cannot get the car running, we can’t determine the full extent of problems with the engine.

The body of the car is not as advertised or seen in the photos displayed on eBay. The paint is chipped and falling off the hood of the car. There are major scratches on the driver’s door and rear of the car and dings on the passenger side. The last item is the seller has never sent us a title for the car nor can we obtain one. After a great deal of difficulty, we were able to contact the owner of the company who said that he was unwilling to take the car back. He said the fact that the car doesn't run and that he has not provided a title to us is unimportant. He stated emphatically that he would not refund the money. He said he would resell the item for us on eBay and if he somehow managed to sell it for more than he paid. he would give us our money back and keep the difference for himself. In other words, if he can do the same unethical thing to someone else, he would be happy to do again through eBay! We have lost $8900.00 which the seller refuses to refund. We have a car that does not run without thousands of dollars of repairs and cannot be registered in Massachusetts because there is no title.

I called Sewell and was giving the run around for 3 days. Finally I talked to their general manager and he informed me that they did not accept my bid and they think someone hacked into their computers and he would not stand behind the sale. I thought that I read that this was a binding contract. So do they have to let me have the vehicle for the price or not? This is my very first dealing with e-bay, and I just dont understand how a seller can say yes and then say no. I was asked if I was asked for any money up front and my answer is no. I was told to contact the dealer. I also had a dealers name to ask for, which I did. I just dont understand if it is a binding contract how can they get away with this??

Item described as very very nice, well cared for, runs well, etc. Paid for shipping $600, controls $400, and so far repairs $350 and prop $150. Item paid for immediately, item not shipped for two weeks and that was only after begging them to ship it.

AJ spoke to me on the phone up until the time he took my payment then he would hang up on me when I would call to ask if the motor was shipped yet. Motor turned out to be 1999 not 2000 as described. Motor was packed so poorly there were huge gashes in motor where it banged up against the shiping container, actually bent the shipping container. No prop and worst of all the motor was DOA.

AJ has no work ethic and no accountability at all. Finally got in touch with AJ a week after motor received and he said that I should be happy with what I got and that I got a $5,000 motor for $1575. I priced them and I could have gotten that same motor new with 3 year warranty, mounted on my boat for $5300. AJ is in another world and his business should not be patronized. They said that thru eBay Motors purchase, I would be contacted by email and instructions on how to send the money & the car would get sent to me.Well, I wired the $2900 to a Aaron Smith which was the total cost because of shipping thru Money Gram and faxed the information so that ebay could have the ref # and be able to give the seller the money once I received the car.

They made it all seem real, I even though I was getting an email from eBay.I began to suspect something after I began telling my friends & than I knew I was scamed & out $3000. I don't know if I'll ever get the money back.I feel so stupid & like an idiot,I fell right into their trap!!But so far I have made a complaint to the local police & to the FBI, & Money Gram.

I hope this experience can help others not make the same mistake. I hope that some how I can help catch these criminals. I recently went on Craigs list and saw the same email adress trying to sell another car. I also responded to another person selling a car & it seems to be the same scam. They use the same word likethe car is in good condition, I don't want to sell it but I'm in need of the money, & that eBay will handle the entire purchase & all I need to do is wire the money.

The day after the funds were wired he was contacted by Mr M stating the an additional $1000.00 (above the $3600.00 he had wired to him) was required for the time that my son was to inspect the bike. If he did not want the bike all of the funds would be returned.

My son called Ebay and was told this was a scam. The bike was no longer listed on the site. Unfortunately, we do not have the item number that was listed with the bike. We have all the Ebay emails and the emails from the seller and this agent. I called Moneygram and spoke to a wonderful woman who told me the money was not in Texas but was picked up in Ozone Park, NY.

I have tried at least a dozen times to contact Ebay. They are like a bunch of trained clowns. When asking to speak to a supervisor, they will call back, they are on the other line, they were just about to call you etc. Finally (this happened on Monday, July 14) friday at 8:45pm a supervisor (?) Keri returned my call, after five minutes or so the call was dropped. When I called back I was told she was on the phone and I was put on hold long enough for a recording that said they were too busy to answer the call and leave a message. All of the reps are saying they can not go back in the system to give me the item number.

If I did have that number, Ebay would be responsible for returning my son's money. I have contacted the FBI and was told it was not enough money for them to get involved. The police dept in my son's town said the detective was on vacation until Monday July 21. and they didn't thing it too likely he would see the money. How can Ebay post an item for sale, have it turn into something like this and just disregard it? How many other people has this happened to? Isn't this a federal offense? Can you please help us with this problem? My son is devasted by this and it is breaking my heart. What ever you can do or suggest that I do would be greatly appreciated.

My son at 19 years old has lost his savings of $3600.00 and quite frankly is in a deep depression over this. These freaks have all his information, home address, phone number, email. This whole situation scares me to death.

I drove it just over 100 miles when it broke down in Harrington, DE. I called Joe at Diamond Auto / Car Auto Connection / paul n (eBay seller) of Bristol, PA. I said that I understood that I had purchased the vehicle with no warranty, but I certainly expected to at least make it home. He said that he would help me out and that he could not believe that it happened.

The vehicle was towed to IG Burton Chev in Seaford, DE. at the cost of $125.00. Joe was in contact with myself and IG Burton until the car was fixed. Turns out that the heads were warped and needed to be reworked. The total bill was for $2640.11. I also had the brake rotors turned while it was there, for they were bad. Joe agreed to pay half. After talking with IG Burton, he decided that his half would be $1100.00. On 6/8 he said that he would mail me a check for $1100.00.

On about 6/23 he sent a check for $400.00, but told me that he had stopped payment on it since I had opened a complaint with eBay and Paypal. You only have 30 days to file and I had no choice. He then told me on 6/26 to cash the check. He told me that the rest was coming. He had told me before that he would send 2 checks for "bookkeeping purposes".

He stopped taking my calls and now will not answer emails. I have been more than patient and I realize that there was no warranty with this vehicle. But he did agree to help me out. And that is what I can't understand. $1100.00 is a small part of the money that I am out on this deal. I can't get any help from eBay because he went outside of eBay. I am out $2240.11. The deal was not such a deal after all.

There is another issue with Ebay that no one seems to be addressing. For example... when you list an auto, there is a listing fee of $40.00 billed as soon as the auction goes live. But additional billing for extras like bold print, supersize pictures, shading, etc are billed only when a bid on your item is made.

Say you have a car up for sale for $15,000.00. You have a minimum bid of $10,000.00 and a reserve of $15,000.00. Ebay encourages you to do this because they say it encourages buyers to get involved with bidding on your item. If no one bids then you will not get the additional fees applied. However nearly eveytime you will get a minimum bid and nothing more.

I am convinced that Ebay pays people to shill these auctions that look like they may not sell. Once the shill bid is made you are liable for the additional fees. There never was a legitiamte buyer, just Ebay's people making the bid so you will have to pay the extra fees. And Ebay does little to nothing to resolve other issues as well. I am currently still investigating this issue and compiling as much evidence as I can.

The add said the seller wanted to securely realize the transaction through e-bay and that we should send the money to an intermediary who would not give the money to the seller until the vehicle arrived and we approved of it. Monica Robert's e-mail message told us that everything would be done through e-bay and that we should be contacting e-bay and receiving a confirmation and case number after the e-bay agent(intermediary) received the money. The intermediary would be supposedly an e-bay agent who goes by the name of Andrew Larson at S. Argyle Ave. Fresno, CA 93723. This person was supposedly going to ensure that the transaction flow smoothly.

We received e-mail confirmations back from e-bay with a case number and ID number. They also asked that we send another $300.00 for a retainer fee for the transportation of the vehicle. We sent that money as well, but were able to pull it back out, after e-mailing the e-bay site and neither they or the seller was responding. We decided to start investigating or trying to contact e-bay customer service, but were unsuccessful in all our attempts.

After not receiving a response from anyone we decided to check with a local e-bay store here in Tucson. The folks at the local e-bay store told us that it was all false and that this person faked the e-bay internet site and all the information on the screens was fake (we were robbed out of our $3005.00. The e-bay store personnel called Money Gram who told them the money had already been pulled out in a Money Gram store in the State of Oregon and the person who showed identification, signed and everything else was Andrew Larson.

On Friday May 2, 2008 my friend and I went to try to file a police report with Tucson Police Department but were told that we had to file a police report with the San Jose Police Department. We tried getting in touch with the Oregon State Police Department and on May 9, 2008 finally someone answered our call and said we needed to go to contact our local police department. The police report was filed by phone immediately on May 9, 2008.

The Money Gram Stores have cameras and I'm sure the procedures their Customer Service Representatives go through are rigorous considering the amount of money and the new Patriot Act. We know it was a hassle to send this money I imagine it was a hassle to go and pick it up at the Money Gram store. Can someone please help us? We want this low-life cyber criminal caught, otherwise how many more people will this person rip-off/scam and no one can or will do anything about it. Hello, I too have been scammed on eBay Motors. I watched item: Honda CRX (160200037215) and asked the seller a question, through the auction listing. He did not respond. I continued to watch this auction, and watched the bids go out of sight, then it was pulled off eBay, prior to auction ending. A few hours later I received an answer from my original question from seller, asking if I was still interested in the car, at his listed asking price of $2499.00, that was to include shipping. I said yes and asked how I was to pay for it through eBay Motors now that it was off auction site, he said he would forward the information to eBay Motors. I then received several emails, with eBay Motors heading, telling me how to complete the transaction through eBay Motors. I was told to send a money gram to someone is San Jose-CA 95125 who was a representative of eBay Motors. And I was to fax a copy of the $2499.00 money gram.

I did so, and received several emails stating the transaction was complete, that the car was already at the DAS company to be shipped. But when I called the DAS co. and found that they had no record, and they informed me to contact seller, and eBay Motors Rep. to get the 7 digit#, or order#. As you can guess, no reply, and it then I knew I had been scammed. eBay has pretty much washed their hands of it saying I have no buyers protection through them, that they think it was a highjacked auction site. I reminded eBay that this fraudulent seller could not have contacted me, but for their auction site, and the question I asked their seller, on this site. I have filed a police report but have been told that it's hard to track these things and they don't have the manpower or funds to do so. I honestly thought I was dealing with a responsible seller through eBay Motors and feel that I have been punished twice, first by fraudulent seller, and second by eBay Motors, who won't stand behind what they list for sale on their auctions.

I have lost a big part of my ability to trust in people and I will feel the effects of this incident for a long time to come. It will make me question a lot of things. As for the money, I have lost a lot too, $2499.00, the $90.00 it cost to send the money gram ,and the interest on my credit card because I took a cash advance.

Then, in July, after numerous emails, I noticed the same picture of the trike we were buying and it had the same picture that were sent to us before our actual purchase back for sale on ebay motors for $6000.00 under a different sellers name. It was then a person by the name of jacksix. That is when I notifed ebay motors and truth be told, all the documents we received were all forged. Our police and our bank thinks it is a big joke that we had money stolen from us. So we contacted the DA office and she said to contact the FBI. I did and there is nothing they can do. With all the updated technology like bank cameras and survellience, why can he not be caught? Just look back at the camera tapes. The person that we sent the western union to was named Peter Hallen of Miami, FL. And per Grainger County sheriff dept, the trike is registed to Jim Porter of Woobbury, TN. We have the vin number also on the title and that is how they found that out. We have all the paper work from ebay to the sheriffs report .

I did contact the vestal police and was told by a lady there that we were not the only ones scammed. She said another women bought it for her husbsnd for their aniversay and was taken. We need this stopped. It was our first and last experience on ebay and buying over the net. We even contacted the person on the title and he said he knew nothing about it. Is there anything I can do? Ebay and Washington Mutual should not have let this happen, they need to have more knowledge on these type of people.

We lost $8000.00 plus $3069.99 for the western union plus fees to send it. I used a credit card to get the money for western union as it had to be cash, so a cash advance there. We borrowed the money from the bank for the trike and when they heard it was a scam we were then charged a non secured loan in the amount of 12.99% interest and to top that off, my wife is the only one working at this time as I have not been able to work due to health issues. Well I fixed the problems and re-listed it later that week, that same day someone here in my hometown bought it so I canceled the listing and stated the reason as Item no longer for sale

Despite it being listed both times for less than 24 hours, Ebay keeps trying to charge my Credit Card $164 for listing/selling fees! It didn't sell and was only listed for a few hours!! How can you charge selling and listing fees if neither one really applies?! I assumed since I pulled the listing myself, it was only on the site for a day, and it didn't even sell....that they wouldn't charge me the selling fees! but you know what they say when you assume...

I recently purchased a used 2000 Volkswagen GTi at this dealership. I was sold a car which had manual seats and a worthless, non-working car stereo with a missing amplifier, even though they had "Power Seat" and "AM/FM/Cassette/Stereo" listed as included options on the original window sticker as well as on their own online for-sale ad. They even went so far as to deceptively list these options on their eBay ad, which is where I originally saw this vehicle up for sale.

On top of this, the sales person I dealt with lied to me saying that the car was in "perfect condition" and that there was nothing wrong with it. Upon driving the vehicle home, I found that the glove compartment door was broken at the hinge. A replacement would cost me $130 according to my Volkswagen Service agent. Adding to my bad experience at this dealership, the financing manager refused to accept my low interest E-Loan as payment for this vehicle, telling me that they would not sell me the car unless I financed it through their own lender, at a higher interest rate.

Then on another occasion, the sales manager himself attempted to lie to me outright when I confronted him about the missing and broken parts and features on the car, saying that I had no claim because the financing contract which I signed would override anything else, including the Buyer's Guide window sticker. Having done my research, I notified the sales manager that according to the Federal Trade Commission, the window sticker becomes a part of any contract upon purchase of the vehicle & overrides any contrary provisions. He suddenly agreed with me.

A vehicle which they had labeled as being in "EXCELLENT CONDITION" and had been "inspected" and "certified" had a broken glove box door, no power seats when it was advertised as having them, and missing the factory amplifier which would have powered the car stereo, basically making the stereo head unit worthless. This is misleading and false advertising by NEMET Autocenter. There was no way that I could have reasonably known that the stereo was not functional, since at the time of the test drive and purchase of the vehicle, the sales person did not have the security code for it.

I requested that they either refund the cost of what it would take me to replace and repair all of these missing and broken parts, or to provide me with a suitable replacement for them. They offered me $300 in compensation. I wonder how many car dealerships out there would charge as little as $300 for an option package including power seats, car stereo and replacement of a broken glove box door?

On 1/28/03 I purchased a used 1982 Chev Camaro that was advertised on the ebay web site. The ad stated that the vehicle was a low-mileage trade-in and that the vehicle ran fine. I took posession of the vehicle on 2/8/03 which was transported from Ohio to Pennsylvania. When I started the vehicle, the "check engine" light was on, the vehicle smoked and ran awful, shaking and no power.

I contacted the company the next day and spoke with a Mr Weiss and expressed my concerns at which time Mr Weiss said that it sounded like the oil sensor was bad and that the was an easy and cheap fix. I took the vehicle to a mechanic in Pennsylvania and after analyzing the vehicle I was told that it needed to be tuned up and the distributor rebuilt and the fuel injection system needed cleaning for a total cost of $900.00.

The mechanic also stated that there was possibly other problems as the vehicle was smoking and shooting oil out from the valve covers.

The $900.00 was paid by me which I had no problems paying as the vehicle was 21 yrs old. After the work was completed I was then advised by the mechanic that there was possibly more damage to the engine then first reported. I recontacted Van Devere Oldsmobile and spoke with a David Hollingshead and explained the problem to him. He advised that I would have to get the vehicle checked at a cost of $300.00 dollars to me and then call him back and let him know what the problem was and how much the cost would be to repair.

After testing the vehicle the mechanic advised that 5 of the 8 cylinders were bad and that the engine basically needed to be rebuilt or replaced at a cost of $2700.00. I recontacted Mr. Hollingshead and explained the problem to him. He stated that he would contact the mechnaics shop and assured me that he would call me back and let me know what they had decided. He has not recontacted me and any attempts to contact him have failed.

I realize the vehicle is 21 yrs old but with the amount of damage to the engine and the way the ad was written I feel that in some way they were deceptive. When I started the engine for the first time I knew that there were problems.

A very difficult situation. Assuming the car was sold "as is" there is probably not much Charles can do.
