Carvana's offer was substantially above CarMAx who offered the same as a local dealer. The process was somewhat sterile with a bot called Sebastian replying to all and any questions.

How does Carvana work?

Carvana is an online used car dealership that allows customers to buy, trade and sell used vehicles.

The vehicles Carvana sells come from several sources, including auctions, customers who trade in or sell their cars to the company and partnered dealerships. Carvana stores its cars at inspection centers across the country. When you purchase a vehicle, the company can ship it to you, or you can pick it up from one of its dozens of “Vending Machines” around the country.

Carvana conducts a 150-point inspection to ensure quality. The cars sold by the company have clean titles, no reported accidents, no frame damage and no fire or flood damage. Carvana backs each vehicle with a 100-day, 4,189-mile limited warranty.

Carvana delivery process

Carvana offers a touchless delivery process:

  1. Identity confirmation: The Carvana Advocate will ask you to send a selfie with your driver’s license to confirm your identity.
  2. Vehicle sanitation: The delivery person will unload the car; sanitize the keys, steering wheel and shifter; and leave your paperwork in the vehicle.
  3. Test-drive: The delivery person will contact you to let you know the vehicle is ready for inspection and a test-drive. They'll wait in their hauler while you confirm you want to go through with the purchase.
  4. Document signing: After your test-drive, the Advocate will call you and walk you through the paperwork.
  5. Document submission: Once the paperwork is complete, you’ll leave it in an envelope for contactless pickup by the driver. You’ll also include your check and title to the vehicle you’re selling, if applicable, in the envelope.
  6. Purchase completion: The Carvana Advocate will review your paperwork from the hauler before leaving; if everything looks good, they’ll finalize the transaction.

If you prefer, you can pick up your car at one of 30-plus Carvana Vending Machines. A Carvana employee meets you at the pickup time to verify your license and insurance via a touchless process. You will receive a custom coin to insert into the vending machine. Once the vehicle is out of the vending machine, you take it for a test-drive. If you're happy with it, you then sign the registration paperwork.

Selling a car to Carvana

Carvana has a straightforward process for selling a car. You start by providing the vehicle identification number (VIN) or license plate information and answering some questions about the vehicle. Carvana provides an offer that’s valid for seven days.

If you accept the offer, you have several options to hand over the car: Carvana can pick up your vehicle, or you can deliver the vehicle to Carvana yourself to a Vending Machine or hub.

  • Pickup: A Carvana Advocate will offer touchless pickup of your vehicle from your location. If you’re trading the vehicle for a different one from Carvana, it will be delivered to you at this time.
  • Drop-off: You can also arrange to meet an Advocate at a Carvana Car Vending Machine or logistics hub, where you can complete a touchless sales process. If you're purchasing another vehicle it'll be ready for you; otherwise Carvana offers to arrange a rideshare for customers within 50 miles of home.

Carvana prices

The amount you spend on Carvana primarily depends on the cost of the car you purchase — vehicles listed on Carvana at the time of publishing range from just over $9,0000 to above $100,000. Carvana allows you to search and filter available vehicles by total price and monthly payment.

You can get free delivery with many vehicles as long as you live within the free delivery area; others have a nonrefundable delivery fee, which ranges from $190 to $599.

Carvana offers its own financing and accepts third-party financing and cash.

I was very pleased with the vehicle I purchased, a 2018 Toyota Corolla LE. However, the Advocate (Vincente "Vinny" **) who delivered my car was not very knowledgeable or helpful, especially at the end when I really needed his help. First, he says I can take the car for a spin. I'm in the car getting ready, and Vinny is standing by the window. He's not doing anything for a while until he tells me I need to get out of the car. I need to sign the agreement, or everything is null and void. If that was the case, why did he say I can take the car for a spin in the first place?

Why did he not address me, signing the documents first and foremost? Then he sent those documents to my smartphone (which took a while to show up on my phone). It was hard to read where I needed to sign. Why did he not have it on his tablet? A couple of years ago, I sold my car to Carvana, and the Advocate I had was exceptional. I signed all the documents on his tablet. Then, as I was taking the car for a drive, I had these stickers on the driver's side window, and they were very distracting while driving. Vinny removed them, but one left a huge amount of residue on my windshield. I am still trying to get it off.

Lastly, I was trying to open the trunk with the key fob. I tried opening the door with it, too. It would not work, I figured it out. It was likely the battery. Vinny suggested I get a certain battery, a CR2032, or something like that. Later on, I purchased one on Amazon and had it delivered the same day. Guess what...Vinny gave me the completely wrong battery model number. Now I have to go to the UPS Store to get a refund. In the meantime, I later found out it is another battery model number for my exact key fob. Vinny was in his delivery truck when I tried to flag him down to come help me open the trunk manually with the key. He simply sat in his truck, ignoring me. I was in full view, and I know he saw me. That was literally the dealbreaker for me dealing with this inept Advocate of Carvana. Overall, it was highly frustrating with the delivery, but the car is a dream. Thank you.

I find Carvana is a reputable used car dealer. This is my second vehicle purchase. Unfortunately the first car had to be returned due to faulty transmission. Carvana is a super simple buying experience and it’s always exciting to see the car being delivered to your house. The only improvement I would say for Carvana is their policy on the tires that come with the car. They keep old out of date tires on the cars they sell. The criteria is as long as it has the correct tread depth they are good with it. Every car they sell should come with new or near new tires. The other thing that I have noticed is specifically with buying a BMW i3. The Charging cable was rusted out and a cheap after market charger missing the 110 adapter.

To me this is the most important element of an electric car. I called carvana and got a bit of a run around. I requested a new BMW charger but they sent a cheap aftermarket replacement. This didn't make me happy so I ended up buying another one from the dealership. The cars you buy from carvana should have a bit more scrutiny before they go out. My other complaint is the interest rates they charge are on the high end of the spectrum.

The overall experience was good. Picking up the car was fun with the token and watching your car come out. Even more when it’s a corvette instead of the family SUV prior. The AI answered most of my questions and were helpful. There was a young nice lady that called me about my pre approved check that saved this review. The one thing that almost had me cancel the deal even with 1200 non refundable payment was the gentleman that called me prior to the lady. It in the chat as well for reference. He couldn’t answer my questions and just told me to follow the instructions he gave me. Felt like a scam call and was rude and almost tainted the deal. His customer service pain and simply sucked. I don’t even remember his name and it’s the one time I wish there was a survey after the call. I could go on about his service.

The only other thing I didn’t like is that I have to get the tires replaced already and the transmission is in the shop already for the known issue the old sell hid from y'all. TB 18 NA 355 from Chevy is the issue I have already. So that’s a 600 fix and tires are three thousand almost. For passing the inspection it must have just passed. $59k after all said and done and already $3600 in for tires and repairs.

I recently sold my car to Carvana at the Spring, Texas location, and the experience was impressive from start to finish. I’m a firm believer in giving credit where it’s due—especially when a company nails the "user experience."

The Process & Communication. Getting a fair offer online was incredibly fast. Once I accepted, the communication was top-tier; I received consistent, helpful updates via email and text that kept the momentum going right up until my appointment. Even the post-sale follow-up has been appropriate and professional.

The Vending Machine Experience. I chose the Spring vending machine location for the hand-off, and I’m glad I did. Watching the machine in action is genuinely cool—it’s a sophisticated piece of tech that turns a mundane chore into an event. The facility was spotless and the staff was prepared and professional, making the actual hand-off remarkably smooth.

Addressing the Negative Reviews. Before my appointment, I did some due diligence and read through the negative feedback online. I noticed a recurring theme: many of the complaints were "nit-pick" issues that most traditional dealerships would simply ignore. I also noticed that many of these negative reviewers seemed to have fake names or a history of *only* posting negative content.

Despite those reviews, Carvana seemed to reply to every single one offering to make things right. My actual experience was the complete opposite of the "internet noise." The digital workflow was intuitive, the staff was knowledgeable, and the transaction was handled with a level of efficiency you rarely see in the automotive industry.

The Bottom Line: If you value your time and want a hassle-free, modern way to sell a vehicle, Carvana has this down to a science. I’d recommend the Spring location to anyone looking for a stress-free experience.

The buying process was overall pretty good. I would say that having to get insurance within less than 24 hours of the order seemed a bit much and forced me to go with an option I may not have chosen otherwise. I will say that the extensions on the loan going forward (the bank was holding it up doing their paperwork) was much appreciated. Vehicle delivery was great. Done in about 20 minutes. The woman who delivered it was very nice and answered all the questions I had. I was able to find some damage and issues that weren't included in the photos. The tailgate has a dent in it with paint missing. There are also some decent scratches on the tailgate.

Additionally the top of the passenger side door jamb and going all across the top of the interior of the door where the weather strip meets the body was clearly repaired at one point. The repair was never completely finished and you could see bare metal. I found this out after ordering running boards and taking them to the shop my dad runs to use the lift to put them on. He was able to prime/paint it, but unfortunately it isn't the exact factory paint.

Also I would seriously suggest getting pictures of the underbody. Especially for trucks. Living in the north east US all the truck frames in this area are rusted out junk. While on the aforementioned lift it was nice to see the frame and most of the underbody are in fantastic shape. Strangely the exhaust is almost rusted out and will require replacement soon. All in all most things were very good. I would suggest getting the underbody pictures and being more detailed with the damage photos. I try not to be nit picky about things and will keep the vehicle. I enjoy the truck, but it would have been nice to have better details.

An absolute NIGHTMARE. To look at the vehicle 2020 Lincoln Nautilus, it's beautiful, very few scratches. Our attempt to purchase a 2022 Nautilus went well until the date of delivery (May 16th) and the driver ended up calling me to let me know that there was some damage to the bottom of the vehicle so we refused it after seeing the pictures of the damage. We later went back on the Carvana site and found another vehicle to swap it out with. Completed all of the paperwork and scheduled for it to be delivered on May 22nd. Received a call within an hour telling me that I needed to upload the insurance information for the swap out. I explained that I would get it on Monday because the agency was closed and the vehicle wasn't scheduled to be delivered until that Friday, the caller said that would be fine and we got off the phone.

I received several calls and texts that Monday the 18th about the missing insurance information and I had to keep explaining to them that the insurance company was working on switching out the policy. I stopped by the agency on Monday afternoon at 4:52pm, picked up the new binder information and uploaded it to the Carvana site at 5:15pm EST. I received another call at 6:42 pm EST stating that the information was received and after reviewing it everything was in order however he needed me to upload it again with all four corners visible and it needed to be uploaded by 8pm or it would cancel my upcoming Friday delivery.

I confirmed that they were on EST and asked him to give me a few minutes to get outside as I was as the nursing home with my mother. I walked outside at 6:47pm EST, uploaded the information with all four corners visible and went back in to the account to make sure it was there. I waited in the parking lot until 7:20pm EST just in case they called. Pulled into my driveway at 8:02pm EST with several texts stating that I had failed to upload the documents by 8pm EST and my delivery appointment had been cancelled.

I immediately called customer service and spoke with Shameka, once again confirmed they were on EST as she proceeded to tell me that I had not submitted the proper documents. She ended up getting our appointment rescheduled after several arguments back and forth and determining that the paperwork was in fact submitted on time and they failed to review it. Vehicle was delivered on May 22nd by Jaylen and Brandon and I will say they were amazing. We test drove the vehicle and it purred like a kitten.

On 6/1 I had to drive the vehicle to Columbia and noticed the vehicle skipping and shaking like it didn't want to go. Called SilverRock (another nightmare) on 6/3 to find out where to take it to be checked out. Our town only has two authorized locations. I scheduled an appointment for 6/6 to have a diagnostic scan done, however the manager(Bradley) of Firestone called on 6/4 to tell me that he would be short handed on that Saturday (6/6) and needed to move me to Sunday at 8am. I got there on Sunday and Bradley informed me that the only guy that knows how to submit the SilverRock claims had just called out sick about 15 minutes prior and they would not be able to service my vehicle. I then asked if as the manager did he not know how to submit the claim request and he told me NO. Our only other location is located on our local base and that requires military access in order to go to them for service.

I called SilverRock back on Monday 6/8 and spoke with Sophie, who then insisted that I drive it back to Columbia to Pep Boys to be inspected and have the diagnostic testing done, so I made an appointment with them to be there first thing Tuesday(6/9) morning. I checked in with Mike who quickly got someone on it. After they test drove it, they came back in and informed me that I needed to get it to a dealership immediately because it was the transmission and they don't service the transmissions. He stated he would have to call SilverRock back and let them know what was going on with the vehicle and recommend to them to either swap this vehicle out since we've only had it about 2 weeks or they can send authorization for it to go to a dealership for an estimate and repairs.

So now all we can do is sit and wait and NOT even drive the vehicle because the transmission can go out at any time. What started out as a Mother's Day gift from my husband has turned into a nightmare. This has been the worst experience ever, and I'll never ever purchase another vehicle from Carvana nor will I recommend them to anyone.

Bought a $40,590 Lexus ES from Carvana only to find it came with one key set. They offered $250 to cover it — insulting for a car at this price. I authorized the purchase Sunday night at 11pm EST and cancelled Monday morning before any bank opened and before any ACH was ever initiated. No money ever moved. After 180 minutes on the phone between Drew N. and manager Sabrina, not one solution was offered. Drew confused ACH with a wire transfer, disconnected the call, and refused to let me speak to anyone else. Sabrina then cancelled my entire order — the exact opposite of what I asked.

Carvana is now holding $35,000 of my money for 10-15 business days on a transaction that never cleared, while earning interest on my funds as I have zero access to my own money. I escalated this directly to CEO Ernie Garcia by email and received no response. For a publicly traded company, this is deeply troubling — Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls exist precisely to prevent this kind of financial mishandling and lack of accountability. This is how a multibillion dollar company treats its customers.

The car was clearly not properly inspected, and their so‑called 150‑point inspection feels like nothing more than marketing. After purchasing the vehicle, I brought it to a mechanic and discovered multiple issues that should have been caught before sale. Several cosmetic defects were also never disclosed in the listing. When I picked up the car, I walked around it with their advocate, who took detailed notes on every issue I pointed out. Despite doing this in front of me, none of those notes were recorded or used anywhere in their system.

It has now been almost three weeks, and I am still dealing with their SilverRock warranty to get approved repairs completed. Even after certain items were approved, SilverRock has refused to let the body shop proceed, leaving me stuck in limbo. Overall, this has been an extremely negative experience from start to finish. I will not be buying another car from Carvana, and I strongly recommend that others stay away.

I purchased a 2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class on 5/6/2026 for nearly $40,000 cash. At pickup I immediately noticed a chip in the windshield and flagged it to the representative who walked me through my paperwork and explained the 7-day policy. I spent the full week driving the car to make sure there were no other issues before submitting my claim. On Day 6 (5/12/26) I submitted through Carvana's platform and received a confirmation email stating I'd hear back within 48 hours. I never did.

When I called on 5/22/26 I spent 42 minutes on the phone being told no claim was on file and that the 7-day window had already passed. The representative's manager ultimately said nothing could be done because the chip was outside the driver's line of view. I have the confirmation email. I followed every step I was told to follow. Carvana's own return policy only requires the customer to make contact within 7 days — and I did, with written proof. Their failure to process and follow up on my claim should not fall on me as the customer. Spending this much money and being dismissed over a pre-existing defect I reported on time is deeply disappointing. I am now pursuing a formal dispute. I hope Carvana takes this seriously, because right now their process is failing customers after the sale is complete.

On delivery day, they called a couple of hours before my appointment to make sure I had everything needed for a smooth pickup. After getting the car, I took it to a dealership for a full inspection to check for any damage, wear, or mechanical issues. The only items that needed attention were the cabin air filter and rear brakes. Other than that, the vehicle was in excellent mechanical condition. Overall, it was a great buying experience, and I was very satisfied with the condition of the car and the level of communication throughout the process.
