What is 1800Warranty.com?

1800Warranty.com is a provider of vehicle service contracts. The company offers customers month-to-month, no-commitment options for vehicle protection. It has four customizable plans, and it also has optional tire and wheel coverage.

1800Warranty.com offers additional benefits with its plans, including roadside assistance and complimentary ID theft protection for you and your family.

How does 1800Warranty.com work?

You can start by getting a free, no-obligation quote online. You’ll need to provide your full name, email address, phone number and ZIP code, plus your vehicle’s make, model, year and mileage. Including your vehicle identification number (VIN) is optional, though you’ll need to provide it if you want the most accurate quote. If you decide to purchase a contract, you’ll also need to provide information about your car’s features (such as four-wheel or all-wheel drive) and a photo of your odometer.

You’ll then choose your coverage level and deductible amount. Coverage is based on a monthly subscription, so it doesn’t require a long-term contract or other commitments. When you’re ready to buy coverage, you’ll pay for the first month. You're then billed monthly, and you can cancel whenever. Your coverage will start after a 30-day waiting period, though you can get coverage right away if you agree to a vehicle inspection.

If your vehicle breaks down and you need to make a claim with 1800Warranty.com, you can take your car to any licensed repair shop, as defined in your contract. The mechanic should then call the claims number on your contract. You’ll pay the deductible and 1800Warranty.com will pay the rest directly to the repair shop.

1800Warranty.com costs

1800Warranty.com’s prices start at around $49 per month. Generally, VSC costs depend on factors such as your car’s make, model and year, its mileage, the level of coverage you choose and the deductible you select.

The company offers several deductible options, including a $0 option, though it doesn’t disclose its current deductibles online. For exact pricing, including for the tire and wheel option, request a quote online or call 1800Warranty.com.

    Updated review: Sept. 13, 2024

    The dispute has been resolved.

    Original Review: Aug. 28, 2024

My truck has been sitting at the mechanics for 42 days & I have not received an update from 1800Warranty.com that my claim has been denied or why it may have been denied. I have contacted 1800Warranty support & have written to 1800Warranty General Manager Chris **, but I have still not received any update about my claim. Around 7/16/24 I took my truck to a mechanic because it was having issues with shifting. The mechanic determined a new transmission was needed and submitted the info to 1800Warranty. According to my contract, 1800Warranty is committed to paying claims up to $5000 for my vehicle and my transmission should be covered.

I waited almost a month for an inspector to be sent. I contacted 1800Warranty to ask about the delay & Kendra told me that I would have to contact another company (DOWC) that I have never heard of for the claims. Then DOWC told me another 3rd party company was doing the inspection. According to my mechanic, the inspector finally came on August 13, 2024. Almost a month after I took my truck to the mechanic! DOWC sent an email to my mechanic on August 15, 2024 & denied the claim. The only way that I found out that my claim was denied was through the mechanic's shop.

I called DOWC & Glenn said it was denied because of having a transmission brake. My truck doesn’t even have a transmission brake, it has an engine brake! I asked for Todd from DOWC to call me back. He never did. I then emailed Todd and he said he would send me a denial letter. He never sent it. 1800Warranty has not provided me with any notifications about the results of my claim. They have apparently denied my claim for a modification that I do not have. They have left a paying customer in the dark & without a vehicle or any update for 42 days. I ask that 1800Warranty take some responsibility for their inaction & lack of providing professional service for a paying customer & to help me get a resolution to approve my claim.

So I have 2017 Dodge Durango. Got multiple parts failure including condenser, some radiator leaks, cargo door struts leaking. So the dodge service estimated cost around 6-7k. To avoid such a huge bills I had these warranty company to save me. But I was wrong guys. It is trap. Rememebr they have a limit of liability on the basis of how long you have been with them 6 months, 12 months and like that. So in my case they approved only 1500 out of the above estimated amount. Such a scam these guys. Please dont buy it guys. And if you buy ask for limit of liability the very first thing.

The signup was really easy and the price is better than any other warranty I have looked at before. There are three tiers of coverage and I got the advanced protection tier. They gave me a discount for being a student, which was all good and dandy. I'm really hoping that they're not like the company I was with when something inevitably goes wrong.

I liked that 1800Warranty.com had a monthly payment. I couldn't come up with a big chunk of money on it. The representative was very nice. The signup was fine but I asked them over 10 times to mail me a hard copy of the warranty but they never did. They kept saying they sent it. I should have gotten it. The lady I talked to said that they sent it, but they never got the green slip back from the post office that they received it. I got tired of fighting with them and I think I'm gonna switch. When I had a claim, they gave me so much crap about filling it. First, they had this excuse about the mileage and it hasn't kicked in yet. I paid extra to get that done so it would be active immediately. They kept coming up with these bogus reasons why they weren't gonna pay. Finally, they did but it took a lot of arguing with them.

I was speaking with one of 1800Warranty's representatives in sales who was relatively new and he was very friendly. He was great at getting the information that he needed. I could tell that he was new because he was asking his supervisor, "Hey, what about this? What about that?" He didn't know the answers to it. So, I applaud him for finding out and not just assuming or giving me an answer that I think I want to hear. So, it was a good overall experience there. We negotiated back and forth on what I was looking for. Everything's great. I asked the guy, "What's your waiting period? Okay, I'm driving the car today. What if I go outside, something happens, and I need to have a repair? How long do I have to wait?" He said it's 30 days. I was like, "Okay, 30 days. That's all right. That's not too bad. But do you offer the ability to waive that 30 days?" He was like, "Yeah, but you have to pay extra for that."

We worked that all out, I paid the waiver, and they sent me the contract showing everything that I had. That was on August 6th. I gave them the mileage of the vehicle. I went through the weekend. Everything was fine with the car. My son had been working through school this whole time. So, I had to take him to work. As I was driving down the road to the school, the air just petered out. It just stopped halfway down the road to the school. It started blowing really hot. So, I called up my mechanic because I'm only 20 minutes from there from where my kid's school location. I said, "Can I bring this to you so you can take a look at it and tell me what the heck is going on? I'll get someone to pick me up, and then you can just let me know what's going on. If I have to come back and get it tomorrow, whatever. It doesn't matter." He said, "Okay. Give me a little bit of time."

He called the next day. From everything that was going on and all the tests they did, he said the evaporator coil was bad. I immediately told him, "Well, let me go ahead and file the claim." He was like, "No, we file the claim." I waited a few days because I didn't hear back right away. Nobody from 1800Warranty had called and told me anything that was going on. When my phone rang, it was the mechanic who told me, "Hey, they denied the claim. They didn't even give me a reason. They just denied the claim." I was like, "That's ridiculous. How can you just sit there and deny something and not give a reason?"

So, I called 1800Warranty and talk to a manager because I was talking to the guy in the claims department and he was like, "Oh, well, I can't do anything for you." I said, "I need to know why this was denied." They told me that it was denied because from the day that I purchased the warranty from 1800 warranty to the day I made the claim, I had only put 66 miles on the car. I was like, "Yes, because I don't drive my car 24/7. I work from home, so I don't have to drive to and from my job until it's time for me to go show property or whatever I'm doing." They will not do anything.

I told the guy, "So why aren't you covering it? You still haven't given me the answer." He said, "It's a pre-existing condition." I just busted out laughing. I said, "Are you seriously gonna hit me with that, that it's a pre-existing condition? How is it a pre-existing condition? I bought a vehicle that is used. So doesn't that mean that anything that happens to it could potentially be a pre-existing condition?" It's not a brand-new car. So, whatever's going on with it is something that has gone on with it prior to me owning it.

They proceeded to go deeper into this whole pre-existing condition and he was arguing back and forth with me about it. I said, "You know what? I'm done with this crap. Just give me my money back. You know what? Matter of fact, I think that you duped me. I feel like I was lied to and I also feel like you people are basically calling me a liar because you're saying that I only drove 66 miles, this, that, and the other. I'm calling the state attorney's office." The guy got off the phone with me. I was calling over to the state attorney's office. I was on the other line communicating there and getting the appropriate chain of command of what I needed to do and who I needed to talk to. In the meantime, they were calling me but I didn't know it was 1800Warranty because I was on the phone.

When I got off the phone, I saw my voicemail message, and it was some general manager, and he proceeded to tell me in this voicemail, "Call me back." I called the number and I was not even in the right number area. I was like, "Okay, well, this is the number that he left me. So, I didn't miraculously dial this number. Can somebody tell me where he's located?" So somehow, they tracked him down, he got on the phone, and we had our whole back and forth. I finally just told him, "You know where we fall with this?" He was like, "Well, I'm just calling to tell you that I canceled your policy and refunded the money. But I need to ask you about what happened. I explained things and I repeated everything. I said, "Here's what I feel. You people may not be flat out coming out and saying it, but you're making me feel like I'm a liar. Like I knew that the problem existed, I waited, get the warranty, and now, bam, let's hit them up with this."

I looked in my account and I didn't see anything that's come back yet. They have not refunded me. It's still showing the $75 that went out. My overall initial experience with them with their sales was wonderful. They were very responsive. They were workable and they were knowledgeable. But then, when it came down to having a claim, there was definitely room for improvement there because of the fact that there was no communication when something appeared to be out of the scope of the norm. They did step up to the plate. They fixed my car. I'm very satisfied with how quick everything happened. I wouldn't deter someone, but I would say, "Just be aware that this could happen." When they're on point, it was excellent and it was super fast.

1800Warranty.com was the last company that the dealership referred me to. When I did some minor research, they were comparing other warranties against 1800Warranty.com. They were saying 1800Warranty.com was more like a contract and it was rated higher. And I figured that it was a win-win situation because I didn't have to have a contract. It was a month-to-month basis. And the fact that it didn't have an expiration date. It’s as long as you want it. And I said, “Okay. So what happens? You don't want to check out my vehicle? I drive a Mercedes Benz. It’s very nice. But you don't check out the vehicle?”

They said no. If I got a warranty today and next week my engine happened to go, they would question that and maybe not honor it. But they would give you your money back that you had invested. It's best for people who, “Oh. Something's wrong with my car. Let me get a warranty.” People who aren't honest. So they have a protocol that they follow for that. I figured that it was a win-win situation because I only pay 130 for a bumper-to-bumper, so it was inexpensive. And that’s what it was.

When I was talking to the rep, we were going to close at the end of the day so I was gonna grab that price. He said, “I'm going on vacation and I won't be back till next week so I'll give you to so and so.” I felt like it was a little sales push, so that made me hesitate. It was overzealous, and it's because they were trying to make the sale. But another person can look at it like, “Okay, you're going on vacation. You better hurry up and grab this.” But I wasn't in a desperate situation because my warranty had not ran out, so I was just shopping around. And the constant contact about the warranty made me think that it wasn't real.

When the person who he gave me to call me back, I said I would rather just deal with one person. So, he emailed me a sample warranty. And the second one that he gave me was the real warranty, but I have to get one in the mail because I haven't received it. That was when I had to think. I said, “I still have time to get my old warranty back,” because the car dealership happened to not be out of business, but they have moved. So, I had to weigh out those options.

I recently had a claim with 1800Warranty where they denied it because it was for a transfer case and they said that we didn't get maintenance on it. I found out that there is no maintenance to really get on it. It took about four days before they even denied it. I had to wait two days for them to send an adjuster out there to look at it, which the shop was like, “This is unusual for a transfer case.” If that was the case, they should have said that in the very beginning. They just prolonged and dragged on the days, trying to find a reason not to pay the claim and they didn't pay it. Also, every time you talk to someone, it’s like it has to go to another department. But I never speak to the other department. It’s always relayed through who I'm talking to. It’s like, “We have to talk to the whatever department and then we'll get back with you.”

It's been all right with 1800Warranty so far. But I didn't know that when I make a claim, I got to leave my car. They want your car to sit there till the part comes. I can't be leaving my car. If I can still drive my car, why do I got to wait and leave my car sitting there. Why am I paying insurance for a car to sit there for three days?

The customer service was pretty quick. I called them and they reverted back within a few minutes. We spoke and they provided me with a quote. I gave it a thought and then the next day, I called them back and said that I wanted to do it.

I had 1800Warranty previously with my other car and they took care of me when it died. They basically told me, "Screw it. We ain't paying for it. Just go pick out another car." It was a smooth experience. It was a simple process. So I stuck with them when I got the new car. When something happened with my new car, I called them and I was trying to see if they covered my axle replacement. That was a whole process because they kept trying to say it was pre-existing. But it wasn't pre-existing because when I called them, I didn't have full details and I still don't know exactly what the warranty covers. I haven't had my vehicle taken in to get fully diagnosed.

When I finally got my vehicle fully diagnosed, the warranty was about to expire so I renewed it. But they were trying to say it was a pre-existing condition because I called and asked them about it. I was calling to see if they covered those things but it was never confirmed until later on. So that was a big issue. I ended up paying out of pocket for that particular thing. This experience put a bad taste in my mouth. But they did cover a sensor that needed to be replaced. The total cost of the sensor was almost $400 but they only covered 188 of that. If I'm paying them $100 every month and I have the top tier warranty, I don't understand why they pay such a little amount. Overall, I wished 1800Warranty would keep the consistency.

When I called, I was transferred to a representative and she got me set up within 10 minutes. It was great customer service. 1800Warranty is an easy company to deal with. It's customer-friendly. There was no hassle as far as getting set up. Another perk that I like is it's for the lifetime of the car, as long as you own the car. You could own your car as long as you’re gonna have it and be worry-free of having to come out of pocket fully for making it.

The lady that I worked with was great. Everything I needed to know, she was fast and in line. She was honest. We talked extensively. We must have talked about an hour and a half about this stuff. The coverage was good.

I started a claim and we had a problem with it. The water pump was leaking bad and they sent someone out to look at it. He saw the coolant but he couldn't find exactly where the leak was coming from so they declined the job. It cost me out of pocket 1,300 bucks to get it fixed. I'm thinking about closing the account.

The person I talked to was sincere about what 1800Warranty's product was about so I gave them a shot. The plan was reasonable as far as payments and coverage. Customer service was professional too. I'm good with the decision I made.

Going with 1800 was one of the worst decisions that I ever chose to make. The first day I started the policy, I got charged twice. In the couple of months that I had them, they were charging me every month giving me over draft fees. I ended up canceling them because in the last month, they charged me twice that over drafted my card and they weren't willing to give me back my overdraft. How you file a claim really sucks too. Overall, I was not satisfied. I wouldn't recommend this company to anybody. They were horrible.
