My employer's health plan insurance, Blue-Cross/Blue Shield's "HIghmark" health/medical insurance- yet another dismal experience and review on its review page of which we purchase the "Premium" healthcare coverge and pay more accordingly for it - pnly offers ExpressScripts for its drug/prescription coverage, which is an absolute joke with co-pay pricing being at least double the price than most or any of the discount programs available such as GoodRx and any other discount program that one can Google and shop.
Then there's the Fact that any of whatever prescription drug that ExpressSripts determine, by their own discretion apparently since any other prescription service has never considered a couple of our prescription to be a "Specialty" prescriptions per ExpressScript's "Accredo" subsidiary and their guru's reviews that declined to even fill the prescription let alone to cover it via our overpaid for prescription insurance coverage and copay of such. They literally informed us that after Accredo's "review" that we did not need the prescription and therefore would not cover it.. and mind you all that we had and have been using these couple of prescriptions for nearly a decade with no "reviews" of coverage by any other prescription providers.- it was simply covered under the plan and filled and co-paid with no issues, questions or problems. Ever.
So- advice to never use ExpressScripts for anything would be Highly advised. Go anywhere- elsewhere. google around and compare the many discount programs and save your hard-earned money - Do Not Use ExpressScripts. They are Terrible and even google their issues with legal trouble - even in regard to the US Congress and gov they have legal issues due to their fleecing and gouging millions of people and insurances.

Worst company ever...dealing with them is terrible. The loops and rings you have to go through to get your meds is horrible. I have had to be without medication because they will not fill it. Filled April 2nd for 2 months, next refill will be shipped June 2nd. It's a weekly medication taken first on the 6th of April then every monday after that, the next one due June 1st.

Inconsistent service. Medications were not filled due to errors on Express Scripts end. Required repeated contact from doctor's office to get straightened out. Worked for one month- then the following month right back to not being filled due to an Express Scripts error. Very difficult to get a live person and when you do, the person is not trained to help and they can only read from a script and walk you through the same website pages you can easily find on your own. Also, medications that are filled are not filled in a timely manner, which causes you to miss more than a week of medication doses at a time. That's a big problem for those with chronic conditions.

I cannot recommend Express Scripts. They gamble with patients’ health by failing to notify customers of refill issues, causing dangerous delays. Shipping times are misleading, support is virtually nonexistent, and they make transferring prescriptions unnecessarily difficult. I tried them because my insurance forced me to. Awful. Cannot encourage you enough to go somewhere else

They have a communication problem, and they seem to be laid back and have no sense of urgency about your prescription. They don’t notify you that an order that was being processed is cancelled. You find out five days later that it is cancelled when you see the order disappear from their app, and have to call them to ask what happened. My prescription is also delayed because they don't get all the information they need from the beginning. They said they have tried to reach out to my doctor many times via fax and call, but there are no records of them calling when I asked the doctor’s office. Doctor also didn't receive any faxes, and it is because Express Scripts has been sending to the wrong fax number. So this company is not very honest with you and they are not competent. I wish there was an alternative.

Absolutely terrible to deal with. I would never use them again if I had any other option through my employer's health plan. They stopped covering one of my regular meds out of the blue. I called to find out why, they told me it had to be filled through them directly on a 90-day supply. So I went through the whole process of getting the Rx from my provider's office, only to be told THREE DAYS LATER that they did not fill that prescription.
I have now had to contact Express Scripts no less than 4 times to this point. They tell me I have to fill the med through CVS locally. They give me a phone number to provide to the CVS to have the Rx transferred. I do just that, only to be called by Express Scripts AGAIN and told they cannot transfer the prescription. Although this has occurred around a holiday weekend, I have been without the medication for over a week and with no resolution in sight. Absolutely the most frustrating company I've ever been forced to work with, and I work in the INSURANCE INDUSTRY. Completely terrible, and this involves my physical wellbeing which makes it all the more egregious.

Repeated errors filling prescriptions. LONG wait times on the phone. Don't even try to update a prescription with a new dosage. It will take you hours and weeks to accomplish. Awful corporate process.

They are a terrible company to use. No contact as they use to do. Medications canceled and no contact on it being canceled. Would and am telling everyone who asks not to use. Very poor. Nothing but headaches with them. Moving everything back to pharmacy as they come up for renewal. My pharmacy does 90 day supply and I'd rather wait in line than deal with Express Scripts. No excuse for a company.

I wouldn’t waste my time! Type 1 Diabetes need constant prescription orders. This has been a nightmare! It takes about two weeks to have your prescription from when you order it. They think you can go without medication or sensors for a couple weeks, hard to speak with someone for customer service. Etc… it takes 45 minutes per phone call every time and they didn’t fix the issue after all, so you need to follow back again. I switched to express script from Walgreens to have three months supply because Blue Cross Blue Shield doesn’t want to do three months supply with Walgreens anymore… I feel like everyone wants you to be desperate for your prescriptions! Which is not human! … I could write more about every mistakes but I’m sure you get the picture!

This is the worst pharmacy I have ever experienced dealing with. Customer Service is horrible and rude. They send prescriptions and just expect you to pay for them, no matter the cost. My prescriptions are on hold for more than one month and I have even paid the full copay amount. I will transfer my prescriptions to a local pharmacy, and won't want to deal with them anymore. I won't recommend Express Scripts to anyone!!! Report

Beyond frustrated with this company. It is very difficult to talk to an actual person with this company. Their prior approval process is a joke and they seem to change criteria often. These executives who are making decisions based on profits rather than patient health need an education. I've been on Mounjaro for a few years now and my diabetes is much better controlled. Less insulin, less insulin pump supplies, and the list goes on. They can't see the benefit.

When discussing the medication, you are being forwarded to a call center that appears to be in India. Therefore communication is an issue. The last thing a patient needs is to try to understand medical terminology, and drug names with someone with an Indian accent. Don’t bother trying to pay for an express delivery. It’s an exorbitant price that gets the medication to you in about five days instead of 14. Poor Poor service..

Overfill some and do not send an alert when Rx refill runs out. Lousy service; staff broken English; bottles too large for quantity.

My company was bought out, and my drug coverage under the new company is Express Scripts. They absolutely WILL NOT allow you to use your local pharmacy. So if you have a small family owned business you like to use, FORGET IT. I have spoken with Express Scripts and argued until I'm blue in the face but they will not budge on this. Their response is: They can beat everyone's price so why would you want to go anywhere else.
Which brings me to major complaint number two: They are MUCH more expensive than almost any other option. My premium went up quite a bit when I was forced to switch to them, and their copays are 30-50% higher than my old plan. They are so expensive that I actually bypass them to get my cheaper prescriptions at the big box store, where they have $5 prescriptions. Express Scripts also does not cover all of the medicines I need, so I'm just out of luck there. Bottom line: This company is all the worst parts of the American healthcare system. High price, no choice, and no sympathy. Stay away if you have a choice.

They still haven't sent my heart medication. I've had to get an emergency script from the ER. They keep telling me my doctor's office is to blame, but I know better. Now I'm in a bad situation. Never using them, or their customer service that's in India, ever again.

This is the worst pharmacy I have ever dealt with. Customer Service is horrible and rude. They send prescriptions and just expect you to pay for them, no matter the cost. They do not take any co-pay cards or anything to help get a discount on over priced medications. And they do not take accountability for anything.

Ordered prescription on 4/27 for blood pressure meds. As of 5/9 no meds delivered and after calling both DHL (they washed their hands of it and said they delivered to USPS) and calling Express scripts asking if I want to speak to a pharmacist???? No. I want my medication. Absolutely horrible since new drug coverage under new health carrier not Cigna. Two days without meds and they said to call doctor and get emergency supply. Thanks.

This company is the worst thing I have ever dealt with. For a company managing prescriptions I am absolutely baffled how what they are doing is even legal. I have never had a smooth interaction with them. Every single time I need meds refilled there is an issue with ZERO communication from Express Scripts. The only communication the have ever provided is once a medication ships.
If there is any issue with your script or any hiccup you will NOT be notified and you will need to contact them at least 10 times to resolve and get your meds shipped. I have now been dealing with my sounds med refill for ONE month. We ended up filling an emergency fill for 2 weeks to give us time to get it resolved. It is still in progress since April 28th and after multiple calls to be told it’s in progress I was informed it will not ship until May 8th. My son runs out of the medication on 5-6. This company needs to be investigated and shut down. What they are doing is absolutely criminal and wrong.

Updated on 05/09/2026: I've wrote 2 other reviews prior to this one, And this one takes the cake. I've been calling for days to have my prescription. Sent to Walgreens in west branch michigan, they sent five, but they did not send one of them to walgreens, And today I found out that they are holding my prescription hostage Because I have a zero balance on my account, I requested to speak to a supervisor. And this is where the shit show started.
Joshua employee number ** refused to send my prescription to walgreens because he needed authorization, I told him about fifteen times that I am giving him authorization to send my prescriptions to where my other five prescriptions went to in West branch michigan. With His rude and cockiness attitude he kept on stating that he needed authorization. And I kept on replying I'm giving you authorization, send my prescription that I need desperately. And then he refused in his cockiness attitude. I requested to speak to another supervisor tier two and I told him I wanted to file a complaint against the other supervisor and I wanted a higher up to call me because this person needs to be fired Immediately by holding prescriptions hostage along with everybody else I've talked to in the last week and a half. I will never deal with Express Scripts again in my lifetime.
Original Review: In my opinion this is the worst pharmaceutical company I have ever dealt with, I belong to the detroit carpenters insurance plan and they supply our medications. I used to get my prescriptions delivered at one time to my doorstep, but now they hold my prescriptions hostage, because they lowered the amount that they can ship to you without you paying. I received an email two weeks ago stating that they were filling my prescriptions and unknown to me. They only shipped one prescription. Holding back 6 other ones. This is not the first time I had a problem with them. So I told them last Friday to send my prescriptions to Walgreens, and I am still waiting for Walgreens to get my prescriptions of needed medications.. They are very rude and basically they don't care if you get your scripts or die. Do not deal with this company whatsoever, or you will spend hours and hours and hours on the phone dealing with this pharmaceutical corporation.

This has been one of the worst companies I’ve had to deal with. Their customer service is extremely poor, and representatives often seem unsure of what they’re doing. I was required to switch to this insurance after my company was acquired by a larger organization. Without notice, they stopped allowing prescriptions to be filled at my preferred pharmacy, which caused me to run out of my medication.
I then waited several days to have my prescription filled at Walgreens, as they instructed, only to find out it wasn’t even approved at that location—leaving me to pay out of pocket. Overall, this has been an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience. This company should seriously reevaluate how they treat their customers.

Zero would be too high for this lousy company. From the very beginning, I have had trouble with them. Sempra Energy switched my plan from Optum RX to Express Scripts in January and they had none of my prescriptions on file and delayed my heart medicine for 15 days even though they said they would put a rush on it. Continually saying I need pre-authorization even for medicine that I was on for almost a year with Optum.
My doctor prescribed a medicine for me and when I arrived at Fred Meyers was told that Express Scripts required a pre-authorization and it was 5PM on a Friday night and my doctor had already gone home so I had to pay for the meds myself. The meds were to deal with the pain I was having that made me wheelchair bound. This company should be out of business. Their score just dropped from 1.8 to 1.2 on the internet. I have complained to Sempra and to Medicare. They already have at least 1 class-action lawsuit this year alone.

BSOLUTELY the worst, including their subsidiaries (Accredo and Evernorth). They try to force me to talk to their own "nurses" who then encourage me to tell me doctor to change my meds to ones they prefer I use. WTF?? They deny, delay, etc. Horrible company. Horrible!!!

It really would be zero but that's not an option. Prescription didn't arrive, probably misdelivered. It took 2 calls and 10+ minutes to get a live agent - AI kept me in a circle of death - I will never do business with this company again
