What You Can Do

A part of the ServiceMaster empire, TruGreen Chemlawn proclaims that it "will give your lawn the nutrients it needs to produce a thicker, greener carpet of grass." Maybe so, but we hear from many consumers who would give anything to stop TruGreen from showing up again. Then there are those who would like a little more service rather than much less.

A brief sample of representative complaints is below; for more, click on any of the cateogories to the right.

Tom of Marlton, NJ June 30, 2008

Tom of Marlton NJ (06/30/08)
I received a letter notifying me that my service was to begin in the spring (of 2008) unless I notify them to cancel my service. I had called to cancel my service at least one week prior to the deadline stated in a letter. The phone representative has inquired as to why and I replied that the service was much more expensive than last year and I had already found a new lawn care company. She then replied Well, I don't have your records from last year so I can only take your word on that. One of our supervisors may want to contact you to discuss it. I replied, He can call if he wants, but I already made the change.

I heard nothing from anyone, as I had anticipated. In the meantime, my ne service provider treated the lawn. Aa few days later TruGreen treated my lawn and left me an invioce. I called and the woman who answered stated that my account indicated that I called for a quote...not to cancel. I told them that they were mistaken and 1) I will not pay the bill and 2) I wanted something to clearly indicate that I had cancelled the service (at this time I got a cancellation number).

The delinquency notice continue to come at a rate of one per week and, despite several calls to get them to stop, they just keep coming. My concern is that they may send this to collections and it will negatively impact my credit.

None at this time except for the waste of time I have expended over this issue. I do fear that my credit will likely reflect this tranaction in the near future.

Jim of Saint Charles, MO June 24, 2008

Jim of Saint Charles MO (06/24/08)
The local Trugreen Saint Charles/Peters office made approximately 8 mistakes with us - mostly centered around trying to push their product, not taking no for an answer, and making it very difficult to actually get an account closed so they would not call you back. It was absolutely amazing how terrible the service was with them, and I told multiple people at the office this. Skimming the site, they have done this kind of thing to hundreds of people before it's obvious, and it's amusing how there claim to be people that work at Trugreen who posted here, and they exhibit the same rude and unprofessional behavior we experienced.

The product we received seemed to be OK at beast, but nothing outstanding. At least they had Organic Fertilizer available (so they said), but did not even apply that how we agreed.

Michael of Lynn, MA June 24, 2008

Michael of Lynn MA (06/24/08)
On May 16, 2008 I gave the ok for [them] to come out to my house for an evaluation. On May 19, 2008 I called to cancel this appointment, only to be told I did not have an appointment. Then one of [their] drivers showed up on May 21, 2008, I was home at the time and told them not to do anything because I had canceled this service. The driver said ok then went away, only to show up again on May 22, 2008 when I was not home and applied this Lime anyway.

I did not approve this service so therefore I will not pay for it. I have notified the Better Business Burrow of [their] antics. I was told when I called that she had a taped conversation of me saying to come and do this but, she told me there was no taped conversation of me cancelling this appointment, how convenient! I dont know what kind of scam [they] are running but will not be paid for a service I did not approve of.

Grant of Canton, MS June 24, 2008

Grant of Canton MS (06/24/08)
I have been using trugreen for about a year now and had asked that they send me schedule of applications. I finally got one the day after the recent application, which tells me they did't spray the back yard b/c the gate was locked. Here in MS it is hot in the summer and I didn't want to put my dog in his pen if I didn't have to. The schedule would let me know when they were coming so I could put the dog up. So going by the schedule they sent me they were to come last tuesday and they didn't so I called them to see why the application wasn't done and that my dog was put up for them to spray.

The first girl told me that my account was cancelled. I told her that I was never notified by letter or a phone call but she didn't seem to care. I was pretty upset by then and called back to see what is going on and I got another girl who I thought was helping but I guess she did nothing after our long conversation and her appoligy for the mistakes. I called again today to verify that they were coming today since we worked that out last week when they were suppose to come. I was sent to the mgr and said that the account was cancelled and I told him that the girl rescheduled it for today since they missed last week.

Once again from the mgr I was told they can come next week and there was no appoligy. I told him no and that I can find someone who actually wants my business and who will treat customers with respect! Trugreen will never get a referral from me or another dime from my pocket!

Brandy of Caldwell, ID June 16, 2008

Brandy of Caldwell ID (06/16/08)
In May of 2007 True Green came to my house to offer services, my lawn was only a month old and I was told it was ok. They came to spray and spent less then 5 min total at my house. Within 5 days my bright green lawn was yellow and dead and still has not come back, now it is nothing but weeds that are 5 feet plus tall. When I called them about my lawn they said it was poor watering which was not the case and I proved it to them by showing them how my yard gets watered.

In July of 2007 Rick one of the Managers called me to let me know that the mixture they had used on my lawn and about 100 others in my area had too high of an amount of Nitrogen and that is why my yard died, funny part is, only a small patch in my front was dead so that goes to show how great a job they did spraying!

So now comes August 2007 and after all the revive treatments and checking on my lawn it only got worse. They told me they would re-sod my entire back yard again. Moving forward it is June 2008 and I have yet to hear back from them or get my messages returned so they can fix my yard. The best part of this is when they first came to my door I asked if fertilizing a month old lawn was safe and they advised me YES but in reality it is not good to do until the roots start to grow. My 7000 landscape job became junk and I was so embarassed I could not even have parties at my house because my yard was so ugly.

Damaged resulted is dead lawn, weeds, unsitly look to my yard. My money down the drain.
