Fifth Third Bank

William of Philadelphia PA (01/15/09)
This bank is the worst business to work with. They are completely incompetant and will do anything they can to rip you off. When you deposit a check they have the right to hold it for up to ten business days. So if your sending a check out with money you should have watch out, cause they love to charge you for bounced check fees. And if you are like me, those fees will put your balance below zero, you will get another 35 dollar fee for that and 6 dollars a day for every day it is not paid. And they let people try and cash your bouncing checks an unlimited amount of times. When they finally cleared my check I still owed them money and i lost two weeks pay.

Also, about a year and a half ago I cashed one of my income checks and had it deposited directly to my my credit card account to pay off the balance. Somehow the dumb woman never deposited the check into one of my accounts and my money was lost. When i tried to fix this problem they asked for my deposit receipt, and unfortunately i was to naive to keep them at the time. When i asked if they would check the security tapes at the day and time that i was there, they told me that it was impossible and they called me a liar.

Not only did i lose my WHOLE check i also had to repay my credit card balance. Also, since i moved to philadelphia, 500 miles away from any fifth third branch my problems have escalated. This great group people who work at headquarters seem to always take their good old time depositing checks into your account. It takes an average of two to three weeks for any check i send to get posted to my account. Whenever I call to complain they tell me I should have just gone to my local branch. When I explain my situation to them they always respond that it isn't their fault the process takes so long and to send a check the day I recieve the bill. Unfortunately, i get it two weeks prior to the due date so Im screwed. So I also tried to pay over the phone using my debit card. And get this, the only way to pay over the phone is if you are over 15 days late and you've already been sent to collections.

And to top it all off, two weeks before christmas i recieve a letter in the mail saying that my credit limit has been cut in half. Now this is a real knee slapper, they tell me this after i do all my christmas shopping, and after the cut i was 300 dollars over my limit. That day i also found out that I accrued over a hundred dollars in overage fees due to the credit limit reduction. Not only that they wanted me to pay 400 dollars by the day after christmas, that was my minimum payment. So in order to pay them i was forced to make the decision on what gifts I should return and who I could not buy gifts for. And when i begged for a month extension and they told me there was nothing they could do and that i shouldn't have spent so much money on my card. BUT I WAS 400 DOLLARS UNDER MY ORIGINAL LIMIT. And the worse part is i cant close any of my accounts with them unless i go into one of their branches. I personally feel sorry for any one who attempts to do any kind of business with this company and I was they fall harder then fannie mae.

this company has costed me about 3000 dollars since ive been with them

Fifth Third Bank is the largest legalized money racketeering business that I have ever personally dealt with. God forbid if you overdraw your account because they are going to charge you a small fortune in overdraft fees. I had overdrawn my account. On the day that they say I overdrew the account I had enouhg money to cover the majority of the checks that came through. But what they did is went by the highest amount check that came in on that day regardless that it was the last check that posted or not. They withdrew the highest amount first then contiunued this from the highest to lowest. Even though the smallest amount checks cleared first.

If they would have substracted the checks in the orderthat they were presented to the bank then I may have only had one or two at the most overdrawn. But NO they withdrew the highest amounts first so that they would then put the smaller checks into overdraft and charging my account 37.00 each for 5 overdrawn checks. Which totalled 185.00. They had the nerve to charge me 37.00 for a 2.50 check. I called Fifth Third customer service at 800-972-3030 and I could not believe when the agent told me. She said that their practice is to take the highest amount checks out first then proceed to the lowest amount This way they put the smaller checks into overdraft so they can COLLECT more overdraft fees for the smaller checks. These checks would have been covered if they would have subtracted the smaller checks as to the order that they came into the bank.

This practice has cost me over 500.00 over the past several months. That is because once you overdraft and your account is in the red they then tac on their overdraft fees which puts your account into further overdraft and causes additional checks to overdraft. I honestly do not know how they can legally get by with ripping people off with this practice.

This bank, charged me 132.00 in overdraft fees, which is 99.00 of it was just for the banks favor! Although, we transfered money on line to cover the funds and went to the branch and deposited money to avoid the overdraft fees, the branch manager had the nerve to come up with excuses! I contacted the customer service over the phone. The repersentatives told me including the customer service supervisor that she was not able to over ride the branch manager's decision!!! She promissed me that she would call the district manager and call me back in 48 hours. She never did. I left here three voice mails and she never called me. I asked the customer service to give me the address for the main office and they couldn't find it?!

I lost 132.00 for no reasons!

I checked my balance the other night to see where I stood financially. To my shock I had over 200 in my account. I thought it was odd but figured I'd just did my math wrong after paying bills (i suck at math)so I went out and got a few necessary things. I go back today to check my balance and I have a balance of -19.66. WTF? I went inside to figure out what happened and there was a snoody ugly woman in there with braces and she kept giving me this attitude. On top of that, she told me I would have over 100 in overdraft fees because I used my card 3 times. This is insane!

I do not know what I'm going to do yet. I can't afford the ridiculous charges. I mean, for chrissakes, I'm only 19, I have a baby and bills, my son turns 1 next month, I have 1st birthday pics to get done, xmas, rent due. Its crazy.

very briefly: I won 53000 reward points in a scratch off promo. and could claim them If I applied for a 5/3 master reward card. I did. I was denied, and was referred to a triple advantage credit reporting group (which is another SCAM). I have NO outstanding debts and excellent credit. I have written several times and received no response. My local branch just said, Sorry, It's over.

Well, it's about to be ALL over. It's amazing to see all the offers that I received when I called other local banks and asked what they would GIVE me to transfer all my accounts from 5/3 to their bank.
