I am a retired 62 year old married man with no tickets. 2 months after quoting me a price they raised my price by 20 dollars. When I called and asked why they gave me no reason, put me on hold and then hung up on me. Called again, same thing. I cancelled my policy with 20 days left in the month expecting the prorated amount to be returned. Instead 4 months later they came at me saying they were keeping my money I had already paid and were taking me to collections for 67 dollars (about the amount they owed me) and said it was for reimbursement of deductions they had given me?

I'm a retired and on disability. Basically they quoted me a price, quickly raised my rates knowing I would probably cancel my policy and then kept the remaining money I had already paid and months later are charging me more and taking me to collections. It went from 120 to 140 a month for 2 retirees in a 20 year old minivan. Just because it's legal doesn't make it right. We feel like they set us up and took advantage of us. We now pay 55 a month at Progressive. Don't use The General and and don't trust customer service to listen or even try to help you. Shame Shame Shame

I was in a accident with one of their insured clients. Let me start here. I was at a stoplight on August 17th approximately around 11 56. A The General insured car t boned another car and came across a four lane road and hit me head on. Lucky he hit a stop light pole first which slowed his car so he only did 4000 dollars worth of damage and I was not injured. I have been trying to get my car fixed ever since. It's sitting at shop tore down and they keep saying, "We are going to assist you." I call BS. They will drag this out I am sure and not pay nothing so God help you if you are ever in a collision with one of their insured. I will more than likely have to get a loan to pay for my car. This company needs to be shut down and boycotted.

The worse experience I ever had, they transferred me to three different adjusters over a month span, which cost me 3000 dollars only to total my car out that could have been repaired for same price. They have terrible communication skills and they acknowledged their mistake to only tell me "Oh we can’t help you but you just cost me 3000 bucks." Horrible customer service, horrible company.

My car was waterlogged in flooding over 2 months ago and they just decided they want to do a risky repair on my vehicle for almost 11K because they don't want to pay to total it out. They don't include a rental car with my full coverage and my problem is no priority to them. They haven't even started working on it, they haven't even said sorry, they flat out don't care! Stay away from The General if you value making sure you always have a car to drive. They spend all their money to have Shaq in their ad, but don't care a single bit about their customers! They just want your payments to clear, they don't care about your claims!

I was shocked that my quote was easy to locate when I called to set up autopay. They didn't make me repeat everything I had already entered in online. They quickly confirmed and I was all set.

Not only did my rate increase significantly over the representative not accepting my verification paperwork (because of wording being a little different) for my address on my homeowner discount, but when I called to cancel the policy- based on finding the same coverage for TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS A MONTH cheaper!!- I was told that she had completed the cancellation but my auto draft was still going to be taken out because “I should canceled the autopay before canceling”.. even though the payment was not yet drafted! The policy was cancelled at 12am on Friday, 2/14- and on Tuesday, 2/18, I was charged for my cancelled policy! When I called on this, the representative was even worse than the other one and wouldn’t even transfer me- saying “who am going to transfer you to?!” I am absolutely APPALLED BY THIS COMPANY!

I had an accident in which the other driving was having a medical emergency and I was rear ended. The other driver did not have insurance but the police did a report, I took pictures and filed a claim immediately after the accident. I was called weeks later and my insurance adjuster #3710 left a message saying they were going to take care of it. No other information was provided through mail or email. I have now discovered the claim has disappeared. It’s like they never even got it. The app doesn’t work and it kicked me off when I tried to refill this claim. When I called customer service they hung up on me while I was waiting to talk with someone about the problem. I do not recommend using them to handle your business because they lack transparency without a proper paper trail. Please give your money to someone else willing to provide correct documentation for your claims.

The general is a scam; they will make up things and have you thinking everything is going to work out, but then they deny your claim based on some false allegations. I paid for extra coverage only for them to do nothing. My car was taken without my consent, and because it was an unauthorized driver that was driving the vehicle, they denied my claim. I feel like that's not fair. Kevin **, Robert **, Ethan **, and Sylvia ** are the agents I had; they all gave false information and false hope. They did any and everything to not help me. Sylvia is the one that denied my claim, claiming she had a video. She made up evidence and made me notarize a paper, just so she could put the blame on me and avoid looking like the bad person.

Kevin told me to take fault for the accident so he could just turn it over to Robert, the investigator, so they could try to accuse me of insurance fraud if they ended up covering it, but they did not because I was not going to take responsibility for something I didn't do. My accident happened on October 25th and they just denied my claim on November 15th. Please do not go through them because you will not be covered. You'll be paying for an insurance company that will not help you; you will end up being taken advantage of. If anything happens, listen to the reviews. They have a bad score for a reason. The General takes advantage of people.

Beware when getting a quote. If you are asked if you pay rent or own your own home. Be sure and let them know if you do not have homeowners' insurance.

Your quote is based on whether or not you have homeowners' insurance. They do not ask if you have homeowners insurance or that it's a prerequisite for car insurance. You will find that out when you get your first statement.

Good luck in getting ahold of a live operator. Especially during an emergency. They usually call you back in 4 to 6 days later. They will also make you feel like you are the person at fault. Please ask the right questions and don't get taken. Also remember that paper statements will cost you money and they will load up your mailbox with unnecessary mail. You will get billed for any paperwork that they send you. usually, 3 to 6 months welcome letters a month.

This is the worst company ever. You pay for what you get. Yes, the prices are low, but if you ever need them, you will go to hell. I had a small, very minor accident and the adjuster gave me hell trying to get my Car fix. My payment was always on time, but when it came To me needing them to get my car fixed they gave the Body hell. At first, they declined my claim altogether even though I sent them all the information they needed. Then they said they cannot find the information and pictures I sent them so I had the Body Shop sent it to them again.

Be aware of who you do been with then they said I had a bill of $37. It’s like signing up with the mafia once you’re in. It’s hard to get out. I will say the lady I originally spoke with, but that the policy for me was really nice. But when you deal with the claims department if you ever have to deal with them do not expect them to help you in anyway, and you have to stay on top of them because they will not reach out to you. I am so glad I am not with them anymore.

This is by far the worst insurance company and my policy just started. We received a quote online for our Chevy Camaro and Malibu. Since the quote was lower than what we were currently paying we decided to go with The General. When it was time to make our first monthly payment we noticed that one of the listed vehicles were wrong. We looked further in the policy and noticed that the covered vehicle was a 2011 Chevy HHR with a totally different VIN from our 2011 Chevy Camaro. This means the entire time we have been driving our Chevy Camaro was not covered. Because we wanted more answers on how this could’ve happened we decided to call customer care and waited on hold for 45 min.

Once we were able to speak with a supervisor, she was very rude and abrasive when it came to answering questions regarding this complexed error. The supervisor at The General had the nerve to blame us for having the random vehicle and VIN-number on our policy. How could it be our fault if we do not have known, nor own the vehicle in question? We then asked the supervisor is it possible that the underwriting team could have made a mistake and she said “even if there was, an e-signature was done online”. Which that type of response, as soon as our time is up, we will not be renewing with The General. This is by far the worst experience we have ever had with a car insurance provider. New customers “SHOP ELSEWHERE”!!!!

I can and will get insurance a lot cheaper. The only reason I called them was because Progressive screwed me and I cancelled them immediately and needed insurance that day or go without which I won't do. You're Roadside Assistance program clearly states that you provide 24/7 assistance to clients that actively pay for the option in their policy. I'm currently broke down in my vehicle on the side of the road, it's 2:36 am, 27' degrees and I called for help over 2 hours ago. I was told I would be contacted after a tow company was notified and that it was being expedited! After 1 hour and 15 mins with no call or text, I called you back. I was told it would be expedited immediately and they apologized for the delay. I waited another hour and just called back again, only to be told that they can't find anyone to provide help at this hour, and that I need to call back at 7 a.m. No I'm not joking, I'm serious! Lol .. I then asked if they could at least locate and contact a local Uber/Taxi to send my way or have contact me. The reply was "sorry sir, we don't those kinds of favors" LMBO...

I feel like I must be on the TV show 'Punk'd' because there is no way I pay for a service this bad, that I'm attempting to use for the first time! Especially not through 'The General'. To top it off, your operator asked if I would feel safe sleeping in my vehicle until 7am in the morning. Everyone has a bad experience, and nothing is perfect, I understand that! But to still be sitting here now, nearly 3 hours later, after my first call for help, I have to honestly say I'm truly shocked at this entire experience. I've made two calls on my own, the 2nd call to a tow company less than 20 mins from where I'm located. They contract with a vendor who provides response/recovery for 'The General' in these situations. The young lady that took my call is the night time dispatcher, and she has not received a call from 'The General' notifying her, or requesting service for a break down that involves a client. I thought about it and I'm not angry, I'm honestly relieved!

Relieved that it's just me sitting here, and my wife, kids or grandkids are not with me! You advertise and charge for a service that you truly can't provide! You can say the '24/7 assistance' pitch can be interpreted differently, and it absolutely can! But is that really the answer you want to give when the question is asked? AAA has never let me down in the past, and that's not taking a shot at 'The General's, but allowing myself to be persuaded to switch to 'The General' was an obvious mistake! I hope you'll receive enough feedback over time to change the foundation this program has been built on, to better reflect the name & reputation you claim to have built. I hope it gets turned around, and I hope you have a wonderful day! Cheers.

I was rear ended at the end of January by a policy holder under The General. She admitted fault, and I contacted her insurance for the claim since I had no collision on my policy (which I now regret not choosing). They opened a claim real quick and my adjustor called me at the end of the next day after the accident. Took pictures and uploaded them to their site for a pre-shop estimate. I got to choose my own body shop, dropped my car off and picked up the rental. Two days later I am utterly shocked when they call and drop the bombshell that my car is a total loss and they will not be paying for the repairs. Turns out there was more damage under the bumper that they deem is not worth my car's value, and gave me two options: take the $2k check with a salvaged title, or $3.5k check and they total it themselves.

The body shop said Florida does not require a salvaged title if the repairs are under the car's value so I came to The General with a deal--I'll take the $2k check but with a clean title. Total loss adjustor refused and a back and forth ensued to where I had to ask for her supervisor. Said supervisor also refused and I kept trying--I said I would sign for release of liability. I asked if the body shop came with an estimate under 80% value if they would repair it then, they also refused. This insurance company was doing everything they could to take the easy way out and forgo all responsibility. Not to mention they undervalued my car by a good bit too. I even said I wouldn't pursue for medical expenses or for a value adjustment. This scam of a company refused once again.

To keep my title I chose to withdraw the claim and pay for the repairs myself since it was cheaper on my finances than to take the lowball settlement and be stuck with a monthly payment on top of the debt I am still paying down. 0/10, do not recommend The General. Unless your car is new and has a ton of value, they will do everything they can to screw you over and not pay. If you are hit by one of their insured, be prepared to pay out of your own pocket unless you are financially secure enough to get another car with their lowball settlement.

The driver admitted liability and the investigating police officer agreed verbally and in his written report that The General insured driver was solely at fault. I filed a claim with The General and the assigned claims representative was essentially nonresponsive for over 2 months. Thus, I had to go to the troubles of getting an estimate, $4,706.19, and traveling about 30 miles to the county where the accident occurred to file a lawsuit against The General insured driver, who also lives far away from the courthouse where the trial will take place. Such defendant, The General insured driver, stands to be found liable for my damages and another $181.00 in costs that I had to advance.

I heard nothing for 27 days after filing the lawsuit. Then, I received a voicemail from The General claims representative telling me to take photos of my damaged vehicle and send them to him so that an estimate could be prepared. I left him a responsive voicemail that he should not expect photos and I would see their insured, the defendant, in court! This explains my opinion that The General auto insurance is awful!
