On March 22, 2025, while on my way to visit my 86-year-old father, I was hit by an uninsured driver who ran a red light. Police officers, firefighters, and EMTs arrived at the scene, and the police report confirmed that the accident was entirely the other driver’s fault. My car was totaled, and I sustained several physical injuries. I went to the emergency room for evaluation and then followed a months-long course of chiropractic treatment. I filed a claim through my insurance company, National General, and the experience was a nightmare. I had to work with two separate departments—one handling my vehicle damage and the other managing my bodily injury claim.

The department responsible for my car was responsive, professional, and empathetic. However, the department handling my physical injuries was horrendous. Sam **, the Bodily Injury Claims Representative, created one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had with any insurance company. His lack of empathy, failure to return calls or emails, and consistently unprofessional, condescending tone made an already difficult situation even worse.

I frequently had to escalate my concerns and contact his supervisor just to get a response. His initial estimates for my injury, pain, and suffering were unreasonably low, forcing me to repeatedly provide documentation and evidence to justify the extent of my trauma and ongoing pain. Needless to say, I canceled my policy after the claim was finally settled. I decided to write this review so others are aware that National General employs representatives who lack empathy, professionalism, and basic customer service skills. National General, please take better care of your policyholders and carefully select your representatives so you don’t continue to lose customers. Sam ** provided an unacceptable and deeply disappointing experience.

I would not recommend doing business with this place! My insurance company uses them if you are in a wreck and they came and picked my car up to do an assessment for my insurance company to determine the damage costs and no one told me that I needed to have all my personal belongings out of my car before they picked it up. When I went to get my car they had stripped everything out of my car and had it in a plastic trash bag. They even took off my seat covers. I didn’t understand at the time why they had to remove everything out of my car, including my seat covers to assess damages done to the outside of my car on the front end. Then the manager at the Lumberton NC location Informed me that my insurance company had told them that I would not be getting my car back.

So instead of making sure there was any documentation that I had signed, giving up my car, they went ahead and removed everything out of it to take pictures so they could sell it on their site. Then they were in a huge hurry to get me off of the property with my car so they could lock the gate and go home. When I got home and started going through the trash bag of my belongings, I found out that they had kept a lot of of my stuff out of my car, including some protection crystals and a guardian angel necklace that was given to me when my nine-year-old son was killed. I tried to get up with the manager, Erica, and she is refusing to talk to me about my missing belongings. I was instructed to get in touch with my insurance company. My insurance company is telling me that it is on Copart to find my belongings.

I really feel like National General (my ins company) And Copart were working together to try to keep my car. They also kept a pair of prescription sunglasses that I paid around $300 for that was in my glove box. So now I’ve got to try to come up with the money to be able to pay out-of-pocket again for another pair. They stole Bath & Body Works, body spray, several car chargers with a car plug that I have bought through my phone company and was not a cheap one from the store, a car magnet to hold my phone, and several business documents that was in my glove box. There was also countless other items that was in my center console and glove box that they kept. They also Damaged the window switch for my passenger front window so now I have to buy another door panel for my driver door that works all of my locks and windows.

This just makes me wonder how many other people before me that they’ve done this to and stolen their personal property? But the fact that they’re refusing to even Talk to me to try to figure out a way to resolve. This issue tells me that they know they did wrong and they have no intention on making it right. I feel like the office manager, Erica, knows what happened to my personal property. I guess my first red flag should’ve been When they were trying to rush me off the property so fast and not giving me a chance to go through my personal belongings to make sure everything was there. I do plan on getting in touch with the BBB to file a complaint against them and my insurance company and I’m waiting on the sheriff to get back with me to file a police report for the damages to my car and the theft of my personal property.

I’m really hoping that my Story can keep other people from possibly going through this in the future. It could’ve all been avoided if my insurance company would’ve told me to make sure that all my stuff was out of the car before it was picked up and it could’ve also been avoided if Copart would’ve made sure that I was not getting my car back before they decided to remove my personal property from my car. The fact that they removed personal property out of a vehicle that belong to someone else is very upsetting!

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!! We were in an accident in January with our truck-bed camper. We'd always paid our premiums on time — But when it came time for National General to hold up their end, they did everything they could to avoid paying. First, they refused to cover the tow. Then they sent an adjuster who completely disregarded physics and offered a laughably low repair estimate — only 10% of the final payout — even though it was obviously totaled from the start. We demanded a second assessment. From there, it was a nightmare: Endless runarounds, emotionless bureaucratic excuses, and no real action. Not only could we not get anywhere — the repair shops couldn’t either. One even emailed us: “She’s no good. She just talks in circles.”

We had to file a complaint with the Arizona Insurance Commission just to get traction — and even then, National General stalled as long as legally possible. They eventually demanded a title for the truck-bed camper — which we didn’t have because truck-bed campers don’t have titles. (You’d think an insurance company would know that.) It took 4½ months of stress, delays, and hoop-jumping before they finally paid the fair market value for the totaled camper — which had been clear from the beginning. I'm still not sure how this wasn’t illegal. Over and over, we were one inch away from lawyering up — but they kept stringing us along just enough to delay. It was emotionally exhausting, needlessly complicated, and completely avoidable. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!
