Rust on new 4 burner JGD3430D cooktop with downdraft. This cooktop was bought in Jan 2016. Supposed to have been a new model. The grate has been cleaned according to the instructions in the manual. 8 months on there's rust on it. And the dealer says Jenn-Air will probably not do anything. The configuration purchased cost about 2200+. Besides the rust, the downdraft (as others on this board have mentioned) is inferior, doesn't seem to do much other than make a loud noise. The previous Jenn-Air model that came with the house (obsolete, unsupported, had been there for about 18 years) had a downdraft that worked much better. Apparently the motor, etc. were downsized in recent years as was their quality, perhaps. The rust on components however is the worst. Other manufacturers' components that cost far less last better for years without this sort of issue. Is there no way to hold Jenn-Air accountable and get them to stand behind their products?

Three years ago we remodeled our kitchen and purchased Jenn-Air stove top from Lowe's for the project. Within a year all of the igniters quit working and would only make a sparking sound. Repairman came out and stated that he needed special tool to repair. He never followed up. Said the job would be too expensive and we probably should just replace the unit. We now use a lighter to light the burners. This is extremely dangerous without the proper igniter. Additionally, we have had to replace all of the cheap flimsy knobs at about $30 apiece. Jenn-Air is a piece of crap!

In the early 1980's we purchased a Jenn-Air electric oven/cooktop. We had it for 12 years and were very satisfied with it. We moved and 6 years ago I decided to replace my gas cooktop with a Jenn-Air cooktop (model JGD8130ADW) so I could have a grill inside. We have had nothing but problems with it since. We had one of the burners replaced while it was still under warranty because the coating was cracking off.
Since then (no longer under warranty) here are the issues we have: coating cracking and rusting in the down draft exhaust; one burner control will not turn at all; one burner quit working. We moved the burner so that it now matches up with the non-functional control. All four burners, including the one we don't use, create a large amount of what looks to be burned metal ash. The metal grate is very discolored. Very difficult to clean - food get down under the controls and you can't get to it, even after removing the control knobs. Occasional spontaneous clicking of the ignite switches on the burners. I'm posting this so other consumers will reconsider this product and look for something else.

I purchased a Jenn-Air gas 4 burner cooktop. It is not what I was hoping for. It is loud, very loud and the noise is the same no matter what blower speed. Actually I don't see any difference in air movement either whether on low, med, or high. When I use the downdraft the flames are sucked over and the downdraft grate gets hotter than the bottom of my pans! If the only place I have for a cooktop is on my kitchen island I would not have it. If you don't want to live in an airplane flight path don't buy this downdraft. Two stars only because the burners work well when not using downdraft.

We have an older Jenn-Air. Last night the fan came on of its own volition. We were unable to shut off the fan. And by the time we were able to get it shut off by pulling the fuses, the motor/ wires had already started to burn producing a horrid smell. If we had been out at the time I am sure the range would have caught fire. I'm going to replace the Jenn-Air with a different stove.

The knobs are horrible, grill doesn't work well, just extremely disappointed in general. After 10 years need to replace it already. Have to stay with the downdraft vent because it's on an inside wall. Do NOT want to replace with another Jenn-Air... Any ideas on an alternative replacement?

We bought a Jenn-Air Cooktop Model JEC9536. The top has been broken and replaced twice. The burners go out one after another with costly repair. The knobs are a joke. If you try to clean around them, they can strip and no longer work. We have replaced knobs so many times, I can't count. Two burners have never worked right. We are now exhausted and will never buy Jenn-Air for any appliance ever.

I purchased the 720-0061-LP from Lowe's in 2005. After a couple years I could only grill on half the grill. The left burner was good, the middle was ok and the right didn't work. I lived with this issue since it was workable for me. However this year the burners rusted out (all but the right side) and now I have only flames in the back. Since this grill was built like a tank with no rust or holes (I even kept it uncovered for the last 8 years and live in Illinois) I decided to rebuild it. I purchased cheap burners and heat plates. I also purchased a new regulator which later realized I did not need but was recommended. After putting everything back together I was back to where I was before the burners rusted. The left burner was good, the middle ok and the right did not work. I researched this over and over on the internet but could not find information related to this issue.
I finally decided to inspect the gas valve themselves. Using a flashlight I removed the burners, stuck my head in the grill and noticed that the tip from the one on the right looked perhaps plugged from corrosion. I took a needle and inserted it into the center tip of the valve moving it back and forth a bit. Did the same with the middle valve. I put the burners back on and BAM all my burners are now at 100%. My grill hadn't been this hot in 8 years! This could be one of the reasons why so many people were complaining of low flames. If you have low flames try this trick - it may work for you! Needless to say I cleaning up the grill and I feel that I have a brand new grill! And for $800 10 years ago I feel that I could go another 10 years. Well worth the money. I just wish I had tried this a long time ago.

We have a little over a year old Jenn-Air Designer Line electric cooktop we purchased to replace a 30-year-old unit from Jenn-Air that appears to be almost identical. We purchased all accessory cartridges and purchased extended warranty from Jenn-Air for another 5 years. In the year we have had it, we had the auto fan switch explode, which regular warranty took care of. We had wanted to remove one of our two ceramic cooktop cartridges in the left channel bay of the cooktop to place our grilling element with grills to cook steaks. For whatever reason, the left ceramic cartridge refuses to release. We have had no issues taking out gently any cooking cartridge, as for years we have had Jenn-Air.
So I called Whirlpool, who holds the extended warranty for Jenn-Air to schedule a repair person to solve the problem. Imagine my frustration when I describe the problem with a CS rep for Whirlpool who has me on hold for 5 minutes to see if this is covered! Verdict is, it is NOT! It is deemed a COSMETIC issue. The grilling unit only works in the left bay channel! So I guess we grill on top of the ceramic cooktop? We spent well over $2100 for the unit and double ceramic cartridges, coil units and griddle. I am livid as this seems to be a company who does not honor their extended warranty and will do anything to get out of servicing their products.

For some time the front right burner on my Jenn Air Gas Cooktop would not light and the attempts caused sparking from the other burners. Finally, the other burners stopped lighting except for manual lighting with a match. After being lit, they all sparked. Service repair person could not lift the glass top to make a repair because the 8 burner screws have rusted and disintegrated and he wouldn't take the chance of breaking the top. Jenn Air customer service will sell me 8 screws for $48 plus and they only had one company they could recommend I call and that company is not even accredited by the BBB. Customer service offered no solutions. To whom do I turn? Cooktop is only 7 years old.

One of the other double burners stopped working and we have to now replace it.
The rear burner stopped working first and the front burner now has a crack and the flames are emitting from the crack. Each double burners costs about $280. Not cheap. I would never buy another Jenn-Air. The part came from Whirlpool Corp in Carlisle, PA JGA810ADB.

We purchased the jenn-air gas stove top with grill along with the electric double wall oven in 1998 when we did our kitchen over. The temp on the oven(s) has never been right. We had it calibrated several times in first few years. My wife finally gave up and just sets the temp 25 degrees higher than called for. I am not a fan of gas grills but thought having a gas stove top with grill would keep everyone happy. We very rarely use it as the fan is so weak the kitchen fills with smoke and allows the grease in the smoke to dirty the ceiling. We had service done in the beginning and had a completely new fan and motor installed. Worked a hair better but still not strong enough to exhaust the smoke and grease when using the grill. We had an electric stove top for probably 10 years prior to the gas unit. Between the two and previous comments read here, I would never purchase a jenn-air again or recommend to anyone considering changing.

I have a Jenn-Air oven, microwave, dishwasher & gas stove top that we purchased as a package. It was the biggest mistake ever! Not only were they very expensive, I have had nothing but problems with all of them. I can't clean the gas burners very well... and the rings around them are not removable. The glass surface which I clean after every use, has spots that can't be removed with vinegar, commercial stove top cleaners or baking soda. The oven takes forever to preheat and doesn't maintain the temperature. It took 6 months to get the microwave replaced... the first one didn't work at all, and the dishwasher fried my pans on the normal setting. Can only use the one hour setting. Their customer service is terrible. I would NEVER buy or recommend Jenn-Air... very bad experience.

One by one, the surface burner relays failed. The Jenn-Air service company's owner came out to replace the relays. Then, another relay failed. Why should these relays fail after a short period of time? As with all the other complaints, they state how much they paid for their units. Well, anymore, quality is not graded by cost. I was transferred three times only to find out that they ONLY have a one month cosmetic repair policy. Of course I talked to a supervisor and after a long discussion she said in so many words, "Sorry but that is our policy." I ordered the part from Parts Select for only around $32.00. We purchased a $1,450 Jenn-Air cooktop on May 14, 2014. It was our misfortune to make the purchase before the publication of the July Consumer Reports, CR, where Jenn-Air was rated last in the electric range and electric cook-top categories. CR went so far as to issue a warning to avoid their ranges and cooktops. Our experience exceeded our worst expectations for a new product even if we had read the CR report.
The cooktop we purchased was not only defective out of the box brand new but nothing on it was functional. After three tech visits over a month period the cooktop was still out of commission. Apparently, Jenn-Air policy is to repair the cooktop instead of replacing it regardless of the inconvenience to the customer. It was only when they could not obtain a third replacement part, a wiring harness, that they decided to replace the entire cooktop. Unfortunately for us they shipped the wrong model which we would have accepted as we were desperate but it was also defective and had to be shipped back. Finally on July 1, after six weeks of surviving on a toaster oven and a microwave oven, Jenn-Air succeeded at fixing the problem by making a product exchange. The third one worked!
Since the July 2014 issue of Consumer Reports rates Jenn-Air last and lowest for reliability of electric ranges and electric cooktops (more than triple the number of repairs as the leader) one would think that their management would want to be somewhat accommodating to purchasers of Jenn-Air cooktops who are having a serious problem with their product. Not really, as I spent countless hours on the telephone trying to get the problem expedited. My experience was very similar to dealing with the bureaucracy of the Department of Defense i.e. slow and grinding pace. During the six week period in which we were without a cooktop Jenn Air offered us two $100 debit cards for all our trouble and inconvenience. If I had any idea that Jenn Air was going to drag out the repair process over six weeks I would have purchased a portable or camping type cooktop. Is it any wonder that LG, Samsung, and Bosch continue to enlarge their market share at the expense of divisions like Jenn-Air? Based on the above do you really want to risk having a similar Jenn-Air experience?

We purchased our Jenn-Air model JEC8430AD 30 on 30 December 2008. We thought the purchase price was reasonable at $506.24 (shipping and taxes included). During the first year, one of the burner thermostats failed. The burner is either on high or off. There are only two of us in the house so we can get along with just three burners. It is now 22 March 2014 and we have decided to replace the cooktop. The knobs are the cheapest imaginable bits of plastic junk. They can't possibly cost more than a few cents to produce but replacements were priced at $22.80 each. We live in Canada so HST is included.
For most of the five years we have owned this cooktop, we have not had all four knobs working. If we had replaced the knobs as they failed, we would have had more invested in replacement knobs than we paid for the cooktop. I wouldn't recommend this cooktop to anyone but, while shopping for a replacement, I have learned that there are many other manufacturers using similar knobs. If you are shopping for a new range pull off a knob and look at it closely. If it is all plastic with a small metal insert don't even consider buying the cooktop.

That's two days of missed work because JennAir delivers faulty product. On top of all this, Customer Service is terrible. They don't do anything to fix the product other than send out the repair guy. No remorse for selling products that break immediately. This was an $800 cooktop. I expect it to not be a disposable item. Thirdly, customer service repeatedly asked for the serial number. Therefore, I grasped the Dust Blow can, the compressed cold air that I blow dust off the computer, to blow at the module area. Suddenly, a loud explosion in my face, the glass shattered and flew all over the kitchen. Luckily, it happened to me instead of my wife. The heating element for the grill cartridge operates only with the left rear control knob. When the rear knob is turned to the high position, the entire element is energized and produces uneven heat for the front and back of the element. When kept on high for 10 minutes, the measured heat output over the back grill plate is 350F and the measured heat over the front grill plate is 250F; that’s a 40% difference! To assure reliability with the test, the thermometer is moved to the back plate and rises again to 350F. Without the ability to have more than one knob to control the heating element, cooking using both grill plates at the same time is very, very difficult. After five service calls, it is still not working properly; and during the service visits, the technician calls the factory that continues to suggest trials that don't remedy the problem. Model JGD8430ADS, gas cook top with glass finish: An alarming inability to do what should be a simple repair on a rather expensive cook top is coupled with an alarming lack of response from Jenn-Air support.
It was purchased on 07/10/2007. The right front ignitor failed. Authorized Jenn-Air tech visited and said it would be better to replace the entire cooktop. The ignitor part is less than $30 but apparently the labor to get to it is prohibitive. After the tech left, I entered chat with Jenn-Air support. "Jena **" had no answers, stated they have no tech support, and provided me a list of three other authorized service companies to get second opinions. My reply was polite but fully indicated my disappointment and Jena responded, "Happy to have been of service"... a response that did not fit the circumstance.
One of the referred second opinion people, when questioned by phone, made me believe we were sunk. His message was that the basic call would be $169 and with a glass top, likely more. If I was confident we could fix this for $200, then I would go forward, but the possibility that the glass might crack during the repair or the prospect of a future similar repair leads us to do nothing. The second referral said they did not work on Jenn-Air glass cook tops. The third never picked up the phone. The other comments on this website seem to bear out what looks like an abandonment of principles at Jenn-Air.

Jenn-Air Dual Fuel Range with Gas Cooktop is the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned. We have already had to replace the electronic control panel, which cost $500 in parts. If it were a great range, that might not be so bad, but the grill only half works these days. When you aren't using the grill and have all the burners, there is only one burner that you can actually control and that is the front right hand corner. The back right burner does not get as hot as you need it when you need it. Ditto for the burners on the grill side. The other two that replace the grill section are pitiful. When you use the burners, the fan automatically comes on and you can't turn it off. This affects the heat coming from the other burners as it sucks the flame toward the downdraft. Six years ago, we purchased a Jenn-Air cook-top (model JEC9530ADB). We've had numerous problems with control knobs burning out. Customer service was not helpful. Maytag repair was negligent and unprofessional. At that very moment, I happened to find the piece of chipped glass on the floor where he was standing. I called Jenn-Air and told them that I would not accept another repair person from their company in my home again and I wanted a full replacement stove top.
After much arguing, a threatening letter to CEO of Maytag/Jenn-Air and the stove top was replaced. We have now experienced another mishap with the stove top where it proceeded to burn from underneath the cooking coil. We heard a loud arcing sound. We have a 2 1/2 yr old Commercial Jenn-Air 6-burner gas cooktop with grill. We've been trying to call since day 2 to tell someone the second time we used it the enamel on the sealed burner cartridges began to bubble, blister and peel. Expecting this product to last at least 15 years, we were extremely disappointed and upset. Did they care? No! They offered a 50% discount on new elements, 50% replacement at our cost of their flawed product! They are looking to re-exploit us and make more money for an inferior product! Aren't they interested in seeing the item to improve their enamel process and eliminate this from occurring in the future to other potential customers? Obviously not.
We called as high up as the executive offices and got a smug rep named Nikicha who implied she spoke for the CEO. And kept saying in a very condescending tone, "I'm trying to explain this to you!", as if I was ignorant and could not understand her, or her ploy to get us to buy additional inferior and overpriced products from this poor excuse for a company. She ended her diatribe with, we don't have to do anything for you, and if you want to buy these, you have 30 days to make up your mind!

The gas cooktop itself works fine (though the grate over one burner is rapidly losing its enamel finish). The problem is that the small plastic knobs on the controls break repeatedly. In less than two years, we've had to replace two already and have another two that are now broken. Jenn-Air just informed me that they were kind enough to replace the first two for free and now they'll be $25 each to replace. This is ridiculous; our old Jenn-Air cooktop had metal knobs that lasted for close to 25 years.
This is obviously a case of inherently flawed design; the flimsy plastic isn't made to last. Rather than feeling magnanimous about their generosity (wow, two free knobs!), Jenn-Air should be very embarrassed about selling a product with such an obvious flaw. Unfortunately, they haven't got the good sense to do so. Next stop is the consumer ombudsman in our local newspaper; the woman is nationally known and seems to get results.

Control Knobs: Product ID # PS2085277, in our case a 5-burner Jenn-Air Gas Cooktop. Since its purchase, we have 1 knob of 5 that is still intact. These parts are for sale with no engineering change, but the defect is poor engineering and overall design of the cooktop and knob which causes failure. Failures include visually intact knob that is actually molten plastic. The other major flaw is that the D clip which attaches the knob has a thin wall thickness and stress molding areas which causes failure and the ring snaps plastic knob.

I bought a downdraft electric glass cooktop range in 2009. It’s been repaired six times since then, including two new tops and three new controls. Last night the main panel went out. The plenum in the downdraft area is rusting like crazy because the manufacturer did not properly apply the paint. Thankfully I purchased an extended warranty, but this thing is junk. Complete junk. They won't even address the corroding plenum. They say "it's cosmetic" despite the obvious manufacturing problem and six, going on seven, repairs. Avoid Jenn-Air and Whirlpool. What a shameful product for the $2,500 cost.

They replaced the glass but I told that it was not the glass but something is wrong with the cooktop, so please replace the cooktop. They said if that happens again, Jenn-Air will give new cooktop.
By the time, the warranty expired for the cooktop, but not for the glass. So what they said was the repair guy said that our cooktop was not installed properly and because of that, our warranty is canceled. Jenn-Air has five years warranty on glass. Give me some tips please, thanks.

A large scorch mark recently appeared under the ceramic surface of my 2.5 year old Jenn-Air cooktop. The scorch mark is so unsightly that the entire cooktop needs to be replaced, and Jenn Air refuses to stand behind their product. They claim such an issue is cosmetic and not covered by warranty. They grudgingly offered 25% off a replacement after I persisted, which does not satisfy me. This clearly occurred as a product malfunction, since the mark is underneath the ceramic surface. Jenn Air refused to have someone take a look at the problem, and was uninterested in seeing photos of the mark. I am stunned by the poor quality of customer service I received, especially after I have been loyal Whirlpool customer for almost 30 years, and purchased a suite of Jenn Air appliances for my kitchen. I would never recommend Jenn Air to anyone, ever.

We have a Jenn-Air Dual Fuel Range, Gas Stove Top with 2 Electric Ovens Model no. JDR8895AAS. The knobs are right next to the burners facing up so there is almost no way you could clean the stove top without pulling the knobs and spraying around them. What if a pot boiled over or you spilled something. A complete botched design.
I called Jenn-Air and a customer service rep told me they would send out a tech today free of charge to troubleshoot the problem and I would have to pay for the parts. A few hours later a second customer service rep called and informed me the service tech would not be able to get here till Tuesday, and told me to leave the stove unplugged until he troubleshoots the problem and I would have to pay for the service call. This means I have to go 5 days with no way to cook!

I replaced the original Jenn-Air electric cooktop about 4 years ago. I was expecting the same quality as the older model from the Stone Age, I was wrong. The metal used on top is so thin that when you use the fan, the grill top vibrates so much you can't stand the noise. The grill piece that covers the pull down venting unit is no better and also vibrates and I have to put things on top of both just to stop the noise. Also, the piece that covers the fan is so small, the lip on it which is too small makes it fall into the fan well. Also, the whole thing is off and my pans are never flat. It has been installed twice to fix this and it hasn't. I would never buy a Jenn-Air product again. I am redoing my kitchen and instead of being able to recoup some of the money by reselling this product to be replaced by a free standing one, I would not in all good conscious sell this for $20. It is so awful. This product is a complete loss for me and I would never buy it again.

During fall of 2009, I purchased a Jenn-Air drop-in downdraft cooktop. It was received and installed in November 2009. The right front corner was warped and wouldn't lay flat, so a new one was ordered. The new one was also warped, same corner, so another was ordered. The repairman suggested the counter was not flat or the hole for the unit was off--not possible as it is a slab granite counter top. This one was warped and also damaged on the right front corner.
The repair guy came today to install the new top, and you guessed it, it's warped as well. Only this time, it's the back right corner. That makes four stove tops that are defective--figure it out Jenn-Air, you have a quality problem! Fortunately, the unit is still under warranty, so I've had no out-of-pocket expenses, just the hassle of a new stove that obviously has design flaws and poor quality manufacturing.
My previous two Jenn-Air cooktops had four tie-downs to hold it in place. This one has two--both just forward of center. This design does not allow the installer to snug the stove to the counter top effectively. I am awaiting a call from Jenn-Air to get another top ordered. I was contemplating asking for a higher end stove, but after reading the various experiences here, I don't think so! I have had repairmen insinuate that since Whirpool bought Jenn-Air, the quality is not what it once was. Amen to that!
As a side note, the tops that were shipped to my house had little to no packing. They were just sent in a cardboard box with a piece of packing paper. No wonder the one came damaged. I am 71 years old, just retired and am upgrading my house for sale so I can put on my backpack and travel. So, do I need the hassle and disruption all these additional phone calls and repair visits require? Absolutely not!
Every day waiting around for return calls and repair visits is delaying my getting the house on the market and my departure. It's a shame the company has shunted quality in their product to the side. I have had two Jenn-Air cooktops in the past, with their superior performance--the reason I elected to buy Jenn-Air again. This will be the very last Jenn-Air product for me!

I am reading the complaints on Jenn-Air and agree they are not helpful to their clients. What really gets to me is I paid over $1,000 for a glass cooktop which looks great, but you can never clean the thing without buying some special cleaner. After getting the thing put in, I read the warranty info which states you can only use certain pots, pans, cleaners, etc. What good is a cooktop if you have to look at everything you do. You cannot even clean the cooktop with a sponge, water and cleanser. This should not be allowed. It's inconceivable you have to even think of such a thing.

I purchased a Jenn-Air gas five burner cook top. It fitted my requirements exactly. It had a flat surface so when pans are moved, they don't meet a huge drop and a center burner good for a wok. All is well except that the control knobs melt! Sears came and replaced the burnt knobs. When I complained to Jenn-Air, some three - maybe four years ago - I was told that the pan I used was too large. It was all my fault - "Hadn't I read the instructions?"
I designed a flame diverter which would be an after sale fix. It's a very simple concept - it costs maybe three to four dollars but, they just don't want to know as they are "Jenn-Air." Right, then, "I'm Geoff!" but not as arrogant as Jenn-Air.
Next time, I will purchase from abroad. The Japanese taught us that we don't make the best cars. In the same way, Jenn-Air should learn that there is competition - but I'm sure they won't learn that until they also need a bailout. They don't want my business a second time.

Now, they are telling me that the part is not available and they will install a replacement stove for $278. I've spent $675 already on repair costs (labor not included in warranty), so now I'll be $950 over what I shelled out when I bought this piece of junk in 2006! My choice is to spend an additional $278 or go out and buy a stove for $500 or more. This range should have been recalled. I've been without an oven for a total of about 2 1/2 months in the three years I've had this stove. A year and a half, it went out again. They sent a repairman. Two years again and then two years after that. Today, it went out again. I was told "how many times do you think we should replace a 90-day part?" I said, "I gave up a stove I never had a problem with after 25 years for this upgrade and I shouldn't be replacing the exact same part every two years." Mary's answer, "Well, I don't know what to tell you. You know that it only lasts two years. It's your choice to fix or not." We bought a new downdraft cooktop from Jenn-Air, put it in and it is misshapen (warped). They sent out a repair company 4 days later who said it's the glass. We waited 3 more days for the glass (never being able to use a stove at this time) and it came in shattered, another 3 days wait for a second glass and the company made an appointment for 2 days later. They came out, put the glass on and it's still warped. So now they said it is the metal housing. Okay, we waited for the metal housing. The housing got there and the company came out and decided that instead of replacing the part, now they wanted to drill the old part to make it work.
We bought the cooktop on March 12. It is now April 1 and we have finally given up on having a perfect new cooktop. Now it is modified and I'm tired of fighting the companies. We choose a Jennaire gas cooktop when we built our house. The gas burners on the left side wouldn't ignite with the piezzo electric igniter from the start. We used matches when we used this side. Then the rear right one started not self-igniting, so now only the right front burner will self ignite. We had a repair person in to fix our dishwasher and we asked him to look at the Jennaire. He couldn't see why it wasn't igniting, since the tubes from the gas burners to the igniter were open and clean.
I read from your site on Jennaire that others have had this problem. It seems that there must be a design defect, since the igniters on the left wouldn't work from the time we got the cooktop. The burner on the left has a sticker on it stating, use in left side only. But the burner from all appearances is identical to the one on the right. I wonder if there could be a mix-up in labeling the left-side burner, so that two right side burners got shipped out by mistake.
We have just lived with this problem, and keep matches near the stove. But it would be nice to know if the problem can be easily fixed. When we called Jennaire about the problem, they just told us to make sure the tubes carrying the gas from the burners to the igniter were clean and open. We have done that and it still doesn't work.
