Choice Home Warranty uses Home Service Club of California for warranties. They are a fraud and do not cover anything as promised. Do not buy from Choice or Home Service Club. You will just get ripped off.

I have a microwave/convection oven dual in wall unit that failed. First tech came earlier than then I was told (but that's not really a bad thing), but he had issues with updating the claim so HSC sent a second tech. Tech says, "It has to be replaced." The whole unit costs approx. $3000; HSC offered $667. Per their contract: "Amount offered in lieu of replacement is based on our available wholesale cost, which is less than retail, for equipment of similar features, capacity, and efficiency. We are not responsible for matching dimensions, brand, or color."
They wouldn't tell me where this supposed wholesale cost was available (proprietary secret I was told) and I contacted several manufacturers directly and they quoted between $2900-$3200 as wholesale cost. When I asked how many I would need to order to get the price down to $667, they told me that that cost doesn't exist. Bottom line, if you have them, wait until your year is up and drop them so you don't have to pay service fees. If you don't have them avoid them and Choice as they appear to be the same company operating as different names (numerous case managers for both companies work for the other).

I had this insurance for about a year and a half. When our furnace went out, we made a claim not & only did they send a technician who did not show up to complete the repair, but when we finally got it repaired with a reputable company, Pinkys Plumbing in the Puget Sound area of Washington state. They claimed that the part failed because the furnace was dirty and had debris. The technicians stated this was not the reason for the failure. So I feel I got ripped off and they’re not going to reimburse us. I would not use them if they were the last company on earth.

They still denied the claim. The case manager assigned to case stated the company wanted her to say claim denied for J7 even if they had no proof.

Avoid Home Service Club – Horrible Service and Weeks of Delays. If you’re considering Home Service Club (HSC) for your home warranty, don’t waste your time or money. My experience with them has been awful and extremely stressful. Their customer service is atrocious as they fail time and time again to provide timely or effective solutions to emergency home problems.
Weeks of Delays: Every time I’ve requested service, I’ve faced unreasonable delays. For a critical electrical issue that could have been extremely dangerous, they scheduled a contractor who couldn’t come for two weeks. The same happened with a plumbing problem – I was left waiting for weeks while the issue worsened. When time is of the essence, HSC is completely unreliable.
Inadequate Customer Service: Dealing with their customer service is a nightmare. Their representatives repeat scripted responses without actually listening to the customer or addressing the problem. Today, I spent over 30 minutes on hold, only to be told the same unhelpful information I’d already heard.
One of HSC contractors insisted I needed to replace an entire plumbing system, which a local plumber later fixed the problem in under 20 minutes. The Home Service Club have consistently failed to meet basic expectations, such as timely service, competent contractors, or responsive customer support. If you’re looking for a home warranty company, do not choose Home Service Club. They will take your money and provide nothing in return but delays, frustration, and poor customer service. Spend your money elsewhere and work directly with local professionals who will actually listen and solve your problems. Avoid this company at all costs – you’ll regret it.

Joined Home Service Club by way of Choice Home Warranty 2 years ago. Called HSC early this year 2024 for stove top repair, paid my technician visit fee and got INCOMPLETE SERVICE. Called HSC to complain about my Very FIRST CLAIM REPAIR being unsatisfactory and HSC wanted to send another technician out and I pay another Tech visit fee!! Stove top not fully repaired, still. 2nd and last claim with HSC in summer of 2024, washing machine problems not thoroughly address and fixed. Not enough water filling the tub and softener not dispensing from “dedicated softener port”. Called HSC to complain that softener issue was not resolved and was told I should have called within 30 days of the tech repair visit. It does not take 3 times for me to know this is wrong. I chose to cancel over 4 months ago and Home Service Club ignores my request to cancel and keeps attempting to charge my bank card for monthly fees!!!
I am Not happy with Home Service Club. I paid over $2000.00 in first initial lump sum payment and monthly payments to be disappointed with the ONLY 2 CLAIMS that I have filed within the 2 years. Home Service Club contractors or repair technicians are inexperienced and HSC customer service and its protocol is a terrible disservice to it’s “unhappy” customers. Why should I continue to pay for POOR and unwanted service. PLEASE CANCEL MY POLICY AND STOP TRYING TO CHARGE MY BANK CARD, AFTER I HAVE REQUESTED TO CANCEL OVER 4 MONTHS AGO. MSTB, Nov. 26, 2024

Case manager Irisha ** x3664 said that the multiple weeks of suffering of a disabled family in 95 degree heat was an "inconvenience." Our AC failed, Home Service Club (HSC) sent out a technician who said the compressor failed. He put in the claim. We were ghosted by Sears and HSC. Sweltering in 95 degree weather this disabled family tried for days to have the problem addressed by HSC. Finally we convinced them to send a second technician in four days instead of the additional weeks they wanted us to wait. That technician arrived after dark, tried to sell us a new unit, and we said no. He then pronounced that he would see that our claim was denied. It was.
Sweating backs against the wall we were forced to buy a new unit, HSC said they would only contribute $100 to the cost. We jumped through all the hoops Irisha ** x3664 demanded of us and after all of that she refused to elevate or claim and offered this suffering family $100. Take it or leave it. I have no doubt that HSC is delighted that Irisha ** x3664 stone-walled claim #** from customer ** (a senior) and his suffering disabled children. Sadly, before that devastating experience I was recommending HSC to EVERYONE!

DO NOT BUY THIS WARRANTY EVER. This is a scam. My 70 year old mom bought the comprehensive plan with add ons warranty for her home. She had water lines burst underground which was supposed to be covered. The company claimed they couldn’t find anyone to fix them so she had to find someone, she did and submitted the quote and they denied the claim stating that what she submitted at first wasn’t covered and it didn’t matter what the quote said was wrong. This is the second claim that has been submitted in 6 months that they have not responded, found anyone and refuses to cover. My mom has been without water for 17 days to have this company rip her off. They need to be reported and shut down immediately. This is the worst company I have ever been in contact with.

The Home Service Club is awful. I cannot emphasize enough how bad of an experience all around it has been with this company. They make routine errors with respect to coverage. The Home Service Customer Service is awful. When you do get approved for a repair, the quality of the repair people are mediocre to terrible. Frequently, we have had to hire an additional repair person to fix the original problem because of either delays or incompetence.

My built-in KitchenAid drawer microwave stopped working. After a 1 month fiasco trying to get HSC to get it fixed (I will spare you the details), their best offer is to send me a check for $191 for me to buy a new one. They won't get it fixed, they say it's more cost effective to get a new one. Except a new one costs $1799 + tax and installation + I already paid the $75 service fee for a tech to come out for the diagnostic. This feels like a huge scam. I would have been better off with no warranty at all.

After waiting two weeks more on February 22nd, I contacted HSC and requested they cancel my policy, I purchased a three-year contract at the representative's urging, and was told the policy was canceled effective that day and a refund of $795.31 would be mailed out. Two days later I get another email with an appointment for another tech to come to my home to service the water heater. I obviously canceled this appointment since I had requested to cancel my policy two days prior. Today I checked the website and it still shows I have an active policy. I had a membership with this company for 3 years. Customer service is very frustrating and disappointing. They delayed service and could not find a technician to service the area. One particular incident is when I have 2 issues, fix the BR lights, and replace leaking pool actuator valve. The technician did not show up, while I lost a day's wages since I missed work that day to accommodate the technician's schedule to supposedly fix the issues. The company couldn't find anyone to service the area, and so I have to find my own technician, when those issues were finally addressed, they would not refund the claims, offered only $150 of the $411 that I spent to fix the issues.
I have to call multiple, I mean multiple times to follow up on the claims and refund. They delay everything till you lose your patience. I finally cancelled my membership. It would have been better to save your monthly membership fee and keep it aside in case something's need to be fixed in my house, than continue to contribute to the monthly membership with this company and waste your money. THE COMPANY IS A TOTAL SCAM!!! PLEASE DON'T BE A MEMBER OF THIS HOME WARRANTY!!

When I only could give 0 stars – Here’s why: In 10/3023 I bought 2 five-year HSC warranty contracts for 2 rentals. At one rental I filed a claim with HSC on Monday, January 8th, 2024, in the morning, because the water heater seemed to be not working. A technician will contact me, HSC said. When NO technician contacted me, on Tuesday I called the technician’s company and asked, when they will inspect the water heater and the answer was: Friday. I told them that is not acceptable to have no hot water for so long in the winter. Finally, they sent a technician on Wednesday. Thursday, I asked HSC, they declined the claim because of corrosion. The technician told me, that he didn’t mention corrosion in his report. It is not acceptable to take so much time for a decision - and for no corrosion stated in the report. I canceled the contract.
For the other rental I canceled the contract as well – with no claim, because I don’t need a contract for nothing. I paid for 2 five-year contracts for two rentals $3,899.70 and after only 3 month and no approved claim they only refunded $2,313.96. The difference is and I paid: $1,585.74. That’s why I can NOT recommend Home Service Club.

Receipt is not enough. I found a nice guy who did it for me and the reimbursement came in a month or so. The real problem? They have not fixed their service issues after 2 years! 2024 and my second claim ----> same thing thing happening again. No appointment. Can't speak to service. I am a Real Estate Broker in WA State and Hawaii. I have purchased many home buyers warranties as closing gifts for my clients. I purchased a home buyers warranty for mechanical systems in my new home in Hilo, Hawaii. I have never filed a claim until ONE MONTH AGO! I have a clog in my plumbing system in my bathroom and I am unable to use the toilet, sink or shower. It has been 31 days since my claim was filed. I have called customer service every day only to be told they 'need more time to find a vendor'. I asked for a list of vendors they have tried to contact, but they refuse to provide me with the list of plumbing companies. Then my claim was closed without any notice to me. I had to re-open my claim on October 18, 2023. It has now been another 7 days of being told the same lies.
My legally binding contract states that I a vendor will be assigned within 48 hours (max) of my claim. The Home Warranty Club is a fraudulent business. They took my money and have breached our contract by not providing me services I paid for in full on November 30, 2022. I have tried to speak with a supervisor, only to be told they don't have any way to transfer me to a supervisor. More lies. My situation is dire and I will likely end up having to hire my own plumbing contractor. I have asked for a refund of my contract, again told from customer service that they don't have the "ability" to do refunds.
I am so frustrated and feel horrible that I have purchased several of the home warranties with The Home Service Club for my Buyers as closing gifts. They will likely have the same run-around based on the dozens of horrific reviews on this platform. DO NOT PURCHASE A HOME WARRANTY FROM THE HOME SERVICE CLUB. You may as well light $500 on fire, because this company is a SCAM!

The Home Service Club is a SCAM. I signed up for the 3 year comprehensive home warranty plan after they promised me to have a tech out within 48 hours. Four of the five claims I have submitted never once had a technician out for service within 48 hours. I have had to find my own tech each time and then go on for months with them while they don’t even reimburse me for 50% of the work.
THIS company is a SCAM! Their customer service department is rude and unwilling to help. Every time they say they are working on providing a tech, a week can go by after submitting my claim and still no service has been provided to remedy the problem. They refuse to transfer me to anyone for escalating an issue with management. Also, when they say they will call at a scheduled time they don’t. Their employees will often hang up on me or refuse to help. I am a Veteran and this type of service would not have flown in the military. Again this company is a SCAM!
When I call for a tech they are able to be here within 24 hours. Once a tech was assigned to me but cancelled (the Home Service Club (HSC) never told me this) and said most techs in Washington refuse to work with HSC because they never reimburse them. See there is a problem! I would not recommend. Go with American Home Shield or anyone else. HSC is not what they advertise!

If I could rate The Home Service Club lower than 1, I would at least rate it -1! This issue continues to be unresolved for the past three months and counting! This experience continues to be inefficient and extremely frustrating! My claim for a leaking refrigerator started on May 19, 2023; we had to disconnect our refrigerator due to the heavy leak on our kitchen floor. This issue continues to be unresolved to date. A technician BTEC Appliance was scheduled by HSC on May 23 for a visit on May 29. Technician arrived late, inspected the refrigerator, mentioned that a water valve part was needed and that he would report to HSC. The requisite $65 was paid to the technician. HSC approved the diagnosis report and BTEC technician was scheduled to return to fix the refrigerator on June 13. He never showed up.
We continuously called HSC for the solution and after many calls they eventually re-scheduled another technician Fixwell for another visit. This occurred on July 12, 2023 and technician mentioned that there were some missing parts and what was needed to be done. He was trying to submit a diagnosis report to HSC a few times but due to HSC portal issues he was unable to do so. To date, the technician has been unsuccessful in sending in the diagnosis report as the HSC portal continues not to allow him to submit the report.
This inability for the technician to submit the report continues till today. And every time we call HSC, they said that they would contact the technician; the technician has told us many times that he has reported to HSC that the portal does not allow him to submit the report. A Mobius strip of a situation! These are technicians that HSC finds for us and makes it extremely difficult for us to use the option to find a reliable technician for ourselves and get reimbursed, therefore we end up waiting and waiting for HSC to resolve the issue quickly.
My daughter and I have called HSC at least 10 times during these three months. In every call, we have to restart to explain the issue and status, when all our calls and status should have been recorded in HSC’s system for the customer rep to read. In one call my daughter put HSC and the technician of Fixwell on a joint call to explain HSC’s portal issue and inability of the technician to submit the diagnosis report – still no solution. In our calls, the HSC customer rep would repetitively state that they needed to find out from the technician what the issue was and why he could not submit the report. When we ask how we could escalate this issue beyond the HSC customer rep and supervisor, we were told that they are not allowed to give us that information.
In summary, these are the takeaways:
1) Claim resolution is severely inadequate and frustrating and customer reps seem to read off a playbook.2) We have to start explaining the issue every time we follow up with a call. Same explanation from HSC and I do not think I have seen a better merry-go-round on earth.
3) The technical issue which has been shown to HSC by the technician, including a joint call among HSC, Fixwell technician and my daughter, continues to be unresolved.
4) I wonder if the HSC CEO buys home warranty and if so if it is from The Home Service Club. I wonder if I can get support from the HSC CEO to get this resolved. My bet is not.
5) There is a Latin saying, “Caveat emptor”, which means Buyer Beware. Caveat emptor on HSC!

It has been an absolutely frustrating and terrible experience dealing with Home Service Club. While they do answer the phone when called, nothing helpful happens beyond that. The representatives answering may as well be robots because they all use the exact same script and follow a process that is highly inefficient and ineffective if you don’t hit the jackpot in a great technician accepting your claim bid.
We have been dealing with a broken refrigerator and submitted a claim over 3 months ago, and it still isn’t fixed. Home Service Club writes up the claim, outsources for a technician or repair company to accept the bid to come do a diagnostic job, then HSC waits for the technician to submit a report and then HSC decides from there what the best steps would be regarding repair or replacement. However we haven’t even gotten to that part of the process of any type of repairs or replacement because we keep having to circle back around and start the entire process over again (and very frustratingly have to re-explain the issue each time we call HSC).
Our first technician (BTEC) took weeks to schedule, then he came and took parts that he said he would order to replace and be back to finish the job, but he never returned! Many calls were made to get the technician to come back, but the number is now disconnected! So we start over with HSC again and they looked for a new technician, which again took weeks to schedule. Second repair guy (Fixwell) came but couldn’t do much because parts were missing from the first technician who took pieces. HSC said they needed the second guy to write a report stating this, but the technician is unable to submit any report online because the HSC portal doesn’t work properly for him to submit.
The new technician was kind and got on multiple conference calls with me and Home Service Club to figure out the portal issue but nothing ever got resolved. The Fixwell technician was willing to send it via email, or in writing and mail it in, or even asked to speak to an HSC rep on the phone to transcribe it on their end to enter into their system, but HSC will not accept any of these solutions to receive the report. So each time I’ve called (which has easily been over 20 times and countless hours spent on the phone), the HSC technicians tell me that they can’t do anything until a report is submitted! So where do we go from here?! HSC hires the technician but then the technician can’t submit a report, and then HSC tell the customer they can’t move forward! What a scam!!!
When I inquired about finding my own dependable technician to use, HSC said they can only allow for that if they don’t find their own repair company to accept the bid within 48 hours. And even then, I can only imagine what a nightmare it will be trying to get reimbursed by HSC if we do get permission to find our own repair person. So now, we are forced to start the process all over AGAIN and resubmit a claim to book yet another new repair company to come and then pray and hope they can submit a diagnostic report and we can move forward. The Home Service Club is a joke. DO NOT get your home warranty from them unless you can live with broken appliances and enjoy spending your time navigating frustrating, inefficient programs.

I have had nothing but terrible encounters with this company. Literally every single time I have called about an issue they have some system error that prevents them from pulling up my account. I had an electric issue end of 2022, they gave me the runaround so many times just trying to set up a visit. I ended up using the website to set it up and it took around a month before they could send someone out only for them to tell me it was a pre-existing issue and wouldn't fix it. To this day I still have partial power in my home since the areas affected are not used often.
I am now having issues with the a/c. It will freeze up sometimes. I can't even successfully get an appointment for someone to come out because it seems they have my account marked after calling so many times. They just say they can't pull up my account and they will redirect me to someone else in which case I'm asked to leave a callback number most times. On the lucky chance I am successfully redirected I get the same line again, can't pull up your account due to system error. How can a company have so many system errors that they can't even run their business. It all seems scripted to me to make you give up and find alternative options. I do not under any circumstances recommend this company. To a degree they are all sharks, but this company takes the cake.
