It seems during the holidays people visiting their storefronts are told that backstage pass is 11.99 annually. This is incorrect, they will charge you monthly. People can understand 11.99 annually for 10% discount and other offers. GameStop gives people $5 coupons for their annual subscription. Keyword annual. It is nearly impossible to cancel the service after it is added. This violates almost every single category required by the FCC for electronic subscriptions. Besides the scam, the only way to get reasonable pricing on anything in the store is with their 10% off. F.Y.E. should not be around anymore.

I'm not sure why so many people say they signed up for the FYE backstage pass thinking it was totally free. I've had this membership off and on for years, and I've never had a problem with cancelling it BEFORE the 30 day FREE TRIAL period ended. I'm pretty sure you can even cancel online now if you don't want to speak to anyone. Even if you misunderstood the cashier, or he/she happen to tell you the wrong information (which I never had them tell me it was totally free forever), you received an information packet, on one of your receipt it explains the membership, AND you get a welcome email with more explanations of the free 30 day trial. More than enough information for you not to claim to be uninformed. Why would something like this be totally free?? Welcome to the real world, nothing is free, unless it was an earn points type of program...which this is not.

*CONSUMER WARNING* I thoroughly enjoy the store FYE. However, they have a fraudulent “rewards program” that you should be aware of. When cashing you out, they ask if you want to sign up for their rewards program, called Backstage Pass VIP, though they provide no information about it (some people have said they were told it was free, while others have said they were notified of a 10% discount; I was told neither of those). They then begin charging you $11.99 a month without ever notifying you of a monthly cost. (Incidentally, the benefit of this “rewards program” is just 10% off of your purchases as far as I can tell, which means you would need to spend $120 a month at FYE just to break even!!!)

We happened to catch it on our banking statement, so I did some research. It turns out, this is standard procedure for the company, at least according to various Consumer Affairs and Reddit message boards that I've come across. I called their Backstage Pass VIP customer service number, and when I complained and asked to cancel and be refunded, they responded with a scripted response offering to lower my payment to $6.99 a month, along with some other confusing benefits (that required my taking pictures of receipts of recent restaurant transactions). When I further pressed the issue, they put me on hold for a few minutes, and returned stating they were canceling, making no mention of a refund. After pressing further, they finally conceited and said they would refund up to four months (it had only been two, so that sufficed).

I should also note that after they quickly rattled off my cancelation confirmation number, she was "unable" to repeat it because she had closed out of the system and couldn't get back in. Others have stated they had to try numerous times to cancel. I took her employee number, whatever that is worth. Just be aware, if you ever shop at FYE, do NOT agree to sign up for Backstage Pass VIP program.

After doing research it seems as though I have the same problem as many others. Which simply proves the company does not care. I went in to purchase three $4 dragon ball z drinks. I used my debit card unfortunately and was asked if I wanted to sign up for a free membership program. Mind you I NEVER SHOP AT FYE, but since the membership was free I figured there was no harm in signing up. WRONG. Today I saw this FYE VIP charge on my statement and realized they had been charging me for a year! That's not what upset me most. When I called to cancel I got the good old avoiding canceling argument that scammers usually give subscribers. Of course no refund and of course I had to CALL AGAIN because they didn't cancel it! Terrible business practices and I see how they have clung to staying in business now. By scamming innocent customers! Will never do business there AGAIN!!

Please avoid making any purchases on the FYE website. My item was badly damaged when it arrived and I contacted their customer service right away. It says it may take up to 7 days for them to respond so I waited seven days but have not yet received any response. So I emailed them once again thinking that they may have missed my prior email. But I have not yet received any response from them yet. I called them even but was not able to reach the agent. I am so appalled by these terrible services and response time and I am actually terrified that they may just not respond to me for 30 days and not give me any refunds. This is really an alarm and tells me that I should stay away from making any purchases from the FYE.

Same story as a lot of people. I purchased a movie. Cashier told me about the VIP Rewards Program. No mention was made of there being a fee, especially not a monthly one. She just asked for my email and phone number. Some time later I discover they are changing me almost $12 a month. I never signed anything to authorize this. I called their number to dispute the charges. I finally got it canceled and a partial refund but it was a major hassle. First representative a spoke to just went silent causing me to give up after several minutes of 'are you there?' 'Can you hear me?', the second hung up on me.

What happened to me is exactly what happened to most of the other reviewers here and on many other websites so I'll be brief. Wanted to make a small purchase (Moorestown, NJ) and was offered the BSP card for 10% off and some coupons. I asked if the card was free and I was told YES, which is a LIE because it costs $15ish a month after a trial period. THAT IS NOT FREE. I asked if it was like a typical store discount card and was told yes - LIE. IT'S A SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE!

I was in the middle of a sale at the time so THEY ALREADY HAD MY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION. FYI signed me up for this garbage program and on top of that, tried to sign me up for various magazine subscriptions which I fortunately declined at the time. The salesperson told me those were free too - ANOTHER LIE. She was really persistent about the "free" magazines but thankfully I had no use for them. When a business has to scam you into signing up for a monthly subscription service and various magazines instead of just selling you items off its shelves then you know it is strapped for cash.

After I left I took a look at the card and info I received with it and saw it would cost $12 a month after a trial period. I immediately called and was told I wasn’t allowed to deactivate it until it was activated for a 72 hour period. I forgot about it and was charged the following month. I called again and the gave me a refund. Now, a month later, I was charged $25 for the magazines that should have been canceled when I cancelled the membership. I do NOT recommend this membership. I bought two sets of Marvel Blu Rays from FYE's online store. It has been a week and the items have not shipped yet. Despite the fact that they have not shipped, and that they haven't charged my card, I am being told there is no way to stop an order In Progress. If an order is In Stock, how has it taken over a week to ship? Why can't anyone from customer service tell me WHEN my order is going to ship? How are they unable to cancel or issue a return on an order that hasn't been sent to me yet?

This entire company just seems like a scam. It doesn't matter what their Terms and Conditions say - you cannot lie outright to customers about shipping times and orders being in stock. I have notified my bank that FYE does not have permission to charge my card. I have contacted a lawyer and will have him send FYE a letter to cancel my order. I have sent numerous emails to their customer service without any response.

Their terms even state that some orders get delayed and won't ship for 2-5 business days. Well, it's been more than that and my "in stock" Blu Rays haven't been shipped to me. What a sham of a business. I should have read the countless negative reviews before ordering from them. Shady Point #1: Was asked if I wanted to be a member to save money, but was not told that it would cost me. After I already signed up, I noticed that I will start to be charged after a 1 month trial period of $11.99 per month. I created an account in their app and decided the discounts and coupons weren't for me and not worth it so I decided to cancel. Shady Point #2: Trying to log in to my account online didn't work. I was sure I had the correct password but it wouldn't log me in. So I tried the "forgot password" feature but that doesn't work either. It just loops me back to the login screen without sending any email or way for me to reset my password.

Shady Point #3: Calling them to cancel brought me to a live person pretty quickly, which was nice, but they did try to convince me to stay a member. Even reducing the monthly cost to $4.95 a month but I just wanted to cancel. The person said they understand and that they have now cancelled my membership. However, since then, I have not received any kind of email confirmation that my account has successfully been cancelled. I have a strong feeling that my account wasn't actually cancelled and I will be charged later in the month. The Takeaway: Just do not bother with this membership as it will cost you more in time and money than it will ever save you.

BIGGEST SCAM EVER!! DON'T SHOP AT F.Y.E!!! I bought my daughter a sweatshirt from f.y.e. and was told by the cashier I could save 10% off my purchase by signing up for their "free" Backstage Pass VIP program. She told me I could cancel it if I wasn't using it enough but never informed me of any charges or that they would use the card you used in store. I thought it was similar to other programs other stores offer for free but a month later I started receiving tons of magazines in the mail (not uncommon as I receive a lot of junk mail usually) but a month later noticed over $100 in various charges out of my checking account.

I called the numbers associated with the charges on my bank statement and found out that f.y.e signs you up for 3 different magazine subscriptions plus $11.99 a month for their "free" VIP club. I had to call 3 different numbers to get everything canceled and was told I would receive a refund in 3-5 days (we will see). I also had to canceled my card for my bank because they tried to charge me an additional 11 times the morning before I called to cancel (I moved my money into another account while I await another card). This is shady business practices all the way around. I'm wary to sign up for any other "saver" cards because of this experience and will never be shopping at f.y.e again!

Only after I signed up was I told by the cashier that there would be a fee after a 30 day free trial (I admit that it's my fault for being so gullible). Anyway, was told if I wanted to cancel to just call the customer service number (she made it sound so easy). Of course when I called, I had to speak to an actual customer service Rep to do so. I told the Rep that I wanted to cancel and he went on and on about how great of a program it was. At the end of this speech, he ended with, "So let's keep your membership for now, okay?" Excuse me? Do they think I'm that dumb to be like, "Oh, okay sure!" I wanted to cancel right there and then and that was that.

After I repeated to him that I wanted to cancel, he quickly gave me a cancellation confirmation code, which I missed, (I was multi-tasking at work) but figured I would get an email confirmation, which of course I didn't. After reading these reviews I realized I had better get that confirmation code because it sounds like they are going to charge my account anyway. I called again, asking for an email confirmation and I was told they do not have the resources to do so (which is laughable) and that I could get a paper one instead through the mail. I said that was fine, and I would like my confirmation code again, and they gave it to me, which was surprising. I was also assured that my account will not be charged. We will see about that.

Like many others here, I was STRONGLY persuaded to join this club when I bought a gift for my husband at FYE. I initially declined, but the cashier went on and on about how it's totally FREE with no obligation. She said it was just like a savings club (like the ones grocery stores have). There was a line waiting behind me, so I said "fine."

A month later, lo and behold, a $12 charge shows up from FYE. I call, and the CS rep proceeds to try and sell me magazines, change my subscription to a different one, basically everything except address the reason I called. I told her I felt really tricked and taken advantage of. She didn't even acknowledge anything I said, and just kept trying to sell me more stuff. After I finally had to be borderline rude (which I hate!!) to get her to stop trying to sell me things and just cancel my subscription, she reluctantly said she would cancel it. I was out the money, but glad to have at least cancelled the subscription.

Today, I got another $12 charge (which will likely overdraft my account). I immediately called and they CS rep again tried to tell me how great the subscription is and told me it was silly of me to cancel since it's such a wonderful thing to have access to all the savings, etc. I again had to be semi-rude to get him to stop and actually listen to me. He finally agreed to cancel my account and said he'd try to get the charge refunded to me - but that it would take 7 days.

This is horrible and predatory. I will never, ever set foot in an FYE store again and regret ever stopping by. I'll tell everyone I know not to go there either. I hope they are held accountable for this at some point. This is so unscrupulous. I hope someone sees this before they get caught in FYE's trap and it saves them the grief (and the overdraft charges).
