Cheated out of a $1000! They continued billing my wife's card for nine months after she completed her sessions. They refuse to reimburse for the billing error due to the "contract." She never signed a "contract." This is outright theft and fraud! And is inexcusable. They should be held accountable.

I've been a member for many yrs. and the facilities have gotten VERY dirty. Dust, hair, gum, trash ALL over the floors in the workout area, as well as the locker rooms. It's so filthy I'm afraid to lay my gym bag on the floor! The manager just walks around BSing with the people and never taking care of business. The roof had been leaking during rainy season and they waited months later, yet rains came again and it was sooo bad, that rain was dripping on the TVs, overhead lighting, lots of equipment, etc. to where they would just use trash cans and yellow tape to prevent anyone from using the equip. Talk about a safety issue where anyone could have been electrocuted or slipped and broke their bones! They did have roofers come (Finally) and do some stuff on the roof, but I guess we'll just wait for the rains again...

I purchased a membership to ALL 24-hour gym locations back in 2019. They changed a lot of their gyms to be classified as " supersport," and now I am not able to get into a lot of their gyms I used to go to all the time. I asked a bunch of people that work at their front check-in areas and the only thing they say is I have to CANCEL my current membership (which I paid a high fee up front to get my lifetime membership to ALL gyms) and start a new membership and just take that loss... there is no expanding or adding on to a current membership.
You can only start a new membership and eat whatever you put down initially which for me was around $1000. PLUS if you go to the gyms, most of them are very dirty and the bathrooms are not usable and not kept at all, and if you don't believe me just go visit a few. I don't have an alternative option available to suggest but hopefully, they change their policy and allow people with preexisting memberships to use their gyms as promised in writing.

I use the Jefferson Valley Mall location and I want to say that I was really impressed with Edward S. ** who was tending the pool and spa area. He was testing the water in the hot tub and asked me to wait a few minutes to use it till the chemicals settled. He alerted me when it was okay and I noticed that he walked the circumference of the pool carefully checking all the equipment in the room and keeping a watchful eye on all members to make sure we were safe and comfortable. He was diligent, courteous and respectful. He's a credit to your organization.

24 Hour Fitness is not accredited by the BBB and has a 1.13/5 stars with 122 reviews-- and it's obvious why when you have to deal with their dismal (non-existent) management and customer service practices. They automatically charged my credit card for a renewal when I was not using the facility nor agreed to such a charge. They refused to refund it, even though I went in-person and called within a day of the charge posting to my credit card. A family member paid for a membership and "gifted" it to me initially, I DID NOT SIGN ANY FORMS AGREEING TO AUTO RENEWAL. I never received notification of auto-renewal.
I have not used any of your facilities since November 2024. I can not access the local gym due to congested parking which has resulted in damage to my car several times. I can not attend Group X classes that I registered for because I can not obtain parking in a reasonable time frame. The website's "manage membership plan" does not actually manage a membership plan. There is no way to check membership renewal date, remove my payment method, or cancel online. I have called Corporate several times, as directed by staff at the Walnut Creek Gym, and I cannot speak to a representative. Every time it says "customer service is unavailable" and hangs up on me. I emailed corporate, received a generic inaccurate response. I have emailed twice since with no response. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SPEAK WITH ANY CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE.

24 Hour Fitness lied to me about my membership, so I am very unhappy with them. They promised me a lifetime membership - and then went back on it, almost 20 years later. I do not trust them. They should not sell 'lifetime' memberships, if they are lying about it.

Half the equipment is broken and if they fix it, it is very slow process. The TV's have no sound or link so that you may listen while exercising. Equipment old and dirty. Management is a joke. Overbilling is rampant and they will do everything they can to over-charge you when you cancel. Cancellation process takes an hour on the phone and they are very rude. If you sign a contract read it carefully and keep it forever...They will claim you chose bi-weekly billing rather than monthly billing so they can overcharge you.

On January 9th My credit card was double charged by their salesperson. As I was speaking to him on the phone and looking at my credit card account online as I was speaking to him. I told him he just double charged me. He argued with me that I was not double charged. He told me he was going on vacation and that I needed to talk to the manager. WTH? Why couldn't he take care of his mistake? I contacted Citibank to dispute the charge only to find that 24 Hour Fitness cancelled my membership despite the fact that I was only credited for the duplicate charge.
I called the manager of the club only to find that Jerry the manager does not work on weekends and he doesn't come into the club until after 11:00 AM (does he leave at 4:00 PM too?). The 800 phone number has a message stating that the call center is closed. I submitted an email and their message was to contact the club in question. This is terrible service and screams of dishonesty. 24 Hour Fitness double charged me has not responded to Citibank, they still have $250.00 of my money and they cancelled my membership.

In the process of gym shopping, I did initially give my phone number to 24 Hour Fitness over a month ago. After checking out the facility, I chose a different gym. After receiving daily phone calls from them, I began contacting them to request, and then demand, that they removed my name from their call list. Despite this, they have continued to blow up my phone every single day for weeks now. I just made yet another phone call to speak to the manager, who told me I should just block my number if I know how to do that. That is an unacceptable response, plus, blocking their number does not stop them from accessing my voicemail. When I called them two times ago to tell them to stop calling me, I did let them know that this now felt like harassment because they refused to stop calling. I am now pursuing any Outlet where I can file complaints against this company because this is utterly absurd.

I’m very disappointed with the 24 Hour Fitness Pleasanton location due to their difficult and unclear process for disabling auto-renewal. My 16-year-old son had switched to another gym and tried to cancel his membership, but their website made it nearly impossible to stop the auto-renewal. On the same day I noticed the charge, I called to cancel and request a refund, but they refused. This is unacceptable, especially since California law (Health Studio Services Contract Law, CIV §1812.80-1812.97) requires that customers have at least five business days to cancel a gym contract after signing. 24 Hour Fitness should make their cancellation policies more transparent and comply with the law instead of taking advantage of customers. Be cautious if you’re considering a membership here!

I joined the 24 Hour Fitness in Tualatin, Oregon In January 2025 through OnePass for seniors. My still current membership number is **. Long story short, they and their General Manager, Justin, make canceling a membership nearly impossible, even when following their own written contract terms to the letter. If you go in to sign up for an initial membership they will be all over you get you signed up, but if you want to cancel a membership suddenly none of their “Managers” can be found at all and for extended periods. Their own printed contract clearly states that you can “Visit your local club and speak with a team member for assistance “. Unfortunately, none of their so-called “team members” has read or is even vaguely familiar with their employer’s own contract terms. So their contract instructions are bogus and canceling becomes a real PITA.

He even told me that there are people who speak Spanish and I can go and talk to them, when I have always referred to him in English. Lucky of me I am bilingual! The 24 Hour Fitness in Vancouver, Washington is flat out dirty. The patrons are not wiping down the equipment after they use it. They are vacuuming the floor but not deep cleaning the equipment. Out of 10 fat-seat bikes, only 6 were available and not broken. Of the 6 that were left, none of the pins to adjust the seat would move. The cup holders on the bikes were filthy with caked on dirt. 24-Hours Fitness is losing paying customers for a reason. I just noticed that on 12/9/2024, my credit card was charged $29.99 after it was charged $240 on 11/25 for a prepaid annual membership. I was upset as I did not know that there would be an additional annual fee besides the membership fee. I was able to get a hold of someone via phone (outsourced to who knows where, of course), and I was told that the $29.99 was an annual "maintenance" fee. What in the world is that? It's just one of those hidden fees they tag on to pretend to keep their annual prepaid rates low. I prefer NOT to do business with companies who have such shady business operations, trying to deceive their customers. We were a given customer on an annual auto-renew plan. I just cancelled that membership for a full refund. Greed kills! There are other gyms out there who charge $10 per month. They are now getting our business. Shame on 24-Hour Fitness!!

A guy Fred decided to give me and my 13 year old who comes with me to gym very hard time entering gym and because I expressed that I didn’t understand what he was targeting us as soon as we walked to the door to my friend whom I was on the phone with he began being nice nasty if you know what I mean. Then after I was able to add my son to buddy pass after the system kept rejecting he then tells me I have to sign in after I had already done so. Then threatened to call the police on me and I asked him for what reason and his name so that I could complain to management. He then later sent me an email saying that I requested for my membership to be canceled.
I later found out his name from another staff member who also didn’t understand why he went so far to threaten me with law and said he does that to members that he doesn’t like and I wasn’t the first to tell him about him doing something like this and reinstated my pending cancellation because he knew who I was and never been disrespected by me or seen me get out of character with any staff member before and has witnesses this employee turn other members away after agitating them. I tried calling to speak with the manager Christen but was told he is out sick and also called the other gym in winter park to express my concerns on going back to gym and being in his unpredictable company as I recently lost my father and don’t come to gym to argue or combative but instead to meditate and wind down as recommended by my therapist and doctor.
This guy went above and beyond to destroy experience for me and my son as soon as we walked through the door. Showed no empathy no compassion and was trying to force me to be his friend while being what I call nice nasty. After being threatened to have police called on me and dented entry after doing what he said I left feeling upset and not treated fairly. Then he canceled my membership and act like he control the gym and that was it. I just had to ask him as a ** man why would he threaten me with police a ** woman with her child for expressing my frustration and he should have a better read to make such threats to a person.
I now have to drive across town to go to gym because I haven’t been able to speak with management and haven’t gotten a return call since reporting on website complaining form because both me and my son do not want to go through that with him again. I just wanted to go for a swim with my kid and use steam room. Just in case I have his name wrong that is his picture below. I’m a paying customer. I don’t go there to make friends with anyone just wanted to go about my day and he decided he was going to mess up my evening for whatever reason.

Feedback on 24 Hour Fitness Gyms: First, I would like to express my gratitude for the services has provided over the years. As a U.S. citizen and a member for over 20 years, I have used your 24 Hour Fitness gym facilities in several states, including Phoenix, AZ; San Jose, CA; Michigan; Las Vegas, NV; Ohio; Austin, TX; Tennessee; and Salt Lake City, UT. My overall experience has been positive. However, I have recently encountered several issues, particularly at the 24 Hour Fitness locations in San Jose and Sacramento, CA, as well as Glendale, CA. I am providing this feedback with the hope that your company will continue to improve service quality.
1. Hygiene Management of Pools and Wet Areas. I recommend strengthening the hygiene protocols in pool and wet areas. All members should be required to shower and wear swim caps before entering the pool to avoid bringing dirt into the water. Many members do not follow these hygiene steps, such as failing to rinse their hair or body and even entering the pool in their regular underwear. This poses potential health risks to other members. If left unchecked, it could lead to the spread of illness and a decline in overall hygiene standards.
2. Enforcement of Rules. It is crucial that the gym clearly communicates hygiene requirements at the time of membership sign-up and posts prominent reminders in public areas. Additionally, staff should not be confined to the front desk but should regularly patrol the facilities to ensure rules are being followed. Members who do not shower before using the facilities should be stopped and informed of the proper procedures. A strong enforcement routine will help maintain cleanliness and improve member experiences.
3. Global Standards Comparison. Compared to countries like Japan and those in Europe, the U.S. has room for improvement in public hygiene management. If these issues are not addressed, it could lead to more severe public health crises during future outbreaks. I sincerely hope your company will prioritize hygiene management and raise its service standards. These are my personal suggestions, and I hope your company will take them seriously and implement effective improvements.
Sincerely,Sacramento **

I am one of the many people who was sold a lie. I paid a large upfront fee for both my husband and I to get a “lifetime” agreement. We have fulfilled our side of the contract, dutifully, since originally signing the legally binding agreement. However, 24 Hour Fitness has since adopted shady business tactics and have found a way to maximize their corporate power to finesse their way out of legal agreements.
I highly recommend not signing ANY agreement with this business. They will charge you, but they will not uphold their end of the agreement. Their sales people that sold the agreements are being set up as liars, the company frames them as deceitful, when the corporate higher ups are at the root of the lies. Run, don’t walk, away from 24 Hour Fitness. This is no longer a reputable or trustworthy company, sadly.

After being a member for 10-plus years on this contract, they raised my fixed yearly rate by 50%. This is dishonest. They also removed my contract from my online account. It used to be there for me to reference. Since they removed access, I have to request it from the local gym that told me that it could take over a month to receive. Even worse, 24-hour does not have a corporate phone number with an agent anymore. If you call corporate, it is fully automated, and they refer you to the local gym for questions. I am now 78+ years old. I purchased my lifetime membership back in 1997.. My annual dues was promised to be $54 for the rest of my life. And as a 78 years old senior there are not a lot of years left in my lifetime agreement! Last month they raised my rate to $144 breaking the agreement. I filed a complaint with the BBB. -24 Hour Fitness replied back stating I did not sign an affidavit back in 2017 stating I was promised my rate would never go up. They said they sent out a noticed to all members.. In the reply they sent to BBB they said they took every reasonable effort to contact members and there was a deadline date that members had to respond back to sign. Members who did not sign the affidavit were subject to a rate increase. I don't ever remember receiving the notice. If I had I would have sent it back. I don't believe they took every reasonable effort to contact members. I am saying one notice sent out by USPS mail is not every reasonable effort.
I have had the same contact info since 1997, 24 hour fitness sends me notices every year to pay my dues, I always get them. I have never missed a payment, since I became a member back in 1997, 24 hour fitness always sends out notices at renewal time. I received every one of those notices. I paid my dues in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. 24 hour fitness emails annoying weekly notices telling me every special deal they have available. My point is they have no trouble contacting me when it is in their interest, but when something is very important to me, they can't.
When you call 24 hour fitness on the phone, they is no one to talk to. They tell you to contact your local 24 hour gym for help. No one at my 24 hour gym was able to assist me, The manager that I talked to was a fairly new employee. He knew nothing about past membership agreements. I am completely disgusted with 24 hour fitness and how they do business and I can not recommend 24 hour fitness.

Absolutely infuriating experience with 24 Hour Fitness! Where do I even begin? Let me tell you, signing up for a membership was like entering a labyrinth of incompetence and frustration. First off, they lure you in with promises of easy cancellation within three days without any charges. Great, right? Wrong! You have to jump through hoops just to exercise your basic right to cancel. I promptly sent a certified letter to their PO Box in California, as per their ridiculous terms. One day after signing up, mind you. But did I receive any confirmation? No! Days passed, then a week and a half, and still no acknowledgment of my cancellation. Meanwhile, my membership remained active, sucking money out of my account like a relentless leech.
Desperate to rectify this mess, I scoured the internet for an email address. Surprise, surprise – it was hidden like buried treasure. After emailing them, the silence was deafening. No response. Nada. Zero accountability. I resorted to calling – not once, not twice, but thrice! Finding the right number felt like locating a needle in a haystack. And when I finally got through to someone, their customer service was a joke. Nonchalant, indifferent, and utterly useless. Oh, but wait, there's more! I was informed of a cancellation fee, conveniently buried in the fine print. So, to escape this nightmare, I begrudgingly paid up.
But here's the kicker – in this day and age, why does canceling require a freaking certified letter to a PO Box? Are we in the Stone Age? Why is there no option for online cancellation? Why does it feel like they're deliberately making it hard for customers to leave? Listen up, fellow fitness enthusiasts: steer clear of 24 Hour Fitness like it's a plague. There are plenty of other gyms out there that actually value your time and sanity. Don't fall for their scammy tactics and subpar service. Buyer beware indeed. Shame on you, 24 Hour Fitness, for your archaic practices and appalling customer support. It's 2024 – time to join the rest of us in the digital age!

I was not the only member robbed that day inside the locker room. I went to the front and informed the staff what had happened and asked the manager to check to see if any non-members were allowed access to the club. When I checked back, I was told that no non-members were in the club that day. I filed a police report and later found out that two people were allow access to the club that were not members and had unsupervised access. These two people had come in together.

I have been a member of 24 Hour Fitness for a couple of years and use multiple facilities mainly Boulder when working in the area. Post Covid there has been a significant decline in the cleanliness of the facility and the general attitude of the front desk employees. Last week around 11:00 am while working out on a stair machine, close to the front desk I witnessed two front desk employees; a young man and woman literally mocking an older gentleman after he checked in. I was appalled. Just last Tue, June 5th while I was in close proximity to the front desk area I overheard the female front desk employee comment to a male employee as a person walked out of the facility after working out -
Her comment was loud and clear - ("was that a man or a woman"). This should not be tolerated, bigoted behavior is not acceptable. The women's locker room and shower area is not cleaned regularly and women's bathrooms are a mess. I went to the 24 Hour Fitness website to try to locate an online complaint/comment to let the manager know but couldn't find this. They are really missing the mark.

I reported it to the front desk, and I was told according to their camera, there was no one carrying my bag who walked out of the club, also made a sound conclusion there was nothing to do with 24 Hour fitness club. Such an irresponsible attitude made me more upset than that theft.
According to the bank's fraud alert, this theft used my credit cards to purchase about $1200+ items from Target, and $50+ gas lines from gas stations, both locations all close to 24 Hour Concord. Theft is theft, their job is to steal. Of course, I have learned from this incident how to prevent theft. What about 24 Hour Fitness, are they going to have an internal investigation into the incident? Was this theft by a regular member/visitor? The theft carried the tool inside the club to complete her job, does the club would take each incident seriously to see how the club worker did their job? As a member for over 20 years, I hope Corp leaders of the 24 Hour club can provide some positive attitude regarding the incident, not just excuses their responsibilities, and let members suffer.

I am very disturbed that this facility has rented out the basketball courts to an outside business in which the individuals have to pay to be members, and are now monopolizing the courts at a prime time from 6-9 Tuesday through Thursday. My son is 17, trying to practice as much as possible, working toward a college scholarship, and now his access to practice has been taken away because of Corp greed. We are members of this gym, which claims to have 24-hour access to the amenities, yet we now have no choice about this decision that was made for us. We have had our access to the courts taken away from us. How is this decision fair to members?
Having been a part of a basketball club for a few years now, we understand the struggle to find a place to practice as a group, especially when it's cold outside. However, this doesn't make it ok for 24 Hour Fitness to rent out a part of a facility they are already collecting money from. I call this double dipping as well as not fair to the members. I am not happy with this decision, I made my opinion known to the Manager and the GM, and since getting off the phone with them, I started a social media frenzy. I posted on IG, Twitter, Facebook, and Nextdoor and complained to the Better Business Bureau. I hope the money you receive from renting the courts is more than you will lose in membership fees. I and several others are sending emails to Corp regarding our frustration about this issue as well.
I hope the decision to double dip on earnings is worth the loyalty you will lose. I was discussing with the owner of our basketball team today about having several of the boys sign up so they could work out together during the club season. You have lost those potential memberships and whomever I can affect via social media. My 15 years of loyalty has got me decreased amenities and services rather than the appreciation a customer should receive. I hope to see changes to this decision. You will be receiving emails from other members that this has affected and aren't happy either.

September 27, 2022 RE: My Skin Was Chemically Burned or Irritated In 24Hour Fitness Jacuzzi. To Whom It May Concern: I visited Denver's 4120 East Alameda location on September 25, 2022. After my workout at about 5pm, I got into the jacuzzi for about 15 minutes. Once I got out my entire body felt like pins were sticking me. The sting is still there today, 9/27/2022, but not as bad. There were too many chemicals in the jacuzzi that caused this irritation. The water was not very hot, so it wasn't due to heat. I was so upset when I looked at my body and noticed that it was fire red all over, that I went to the front desk to express my dissatisfaction, in my trunks.
I spoke with Kory & Riley. They provided no guidance because management nor maintenance wasn't available. Later, Kory closed the jacuzzi and told me that the Ph was high when he tested it. He indicated that maintenance comes only 3 times a week. Maybe they over apply chemicals. He also took down my name and number for a follow up call. I received none, and I am pissed. My skin is still irritated! It is still red, dry and ashy, itches, and feels like pins sticking me. If it persists, I will go to ER or Urgent care. I've given 24 Hour Fitness many opportunities to address this issue directly with me but received no material response:
1. Left contact info at the gym.
2. Sent emails to Sales & General Manager - Megan Bartlett twice.
3. Sent complaints on line (24 Hour Corporate) twice.
They seen evasive. I am very disappointed and do not recommend using their wet facilities.

The hot room no one uses a towel to seat people leave a pool of sweat behind and next person just comes and seats in it without even knowing that a minute ago there was a lot of sweat there. No one cleaning. It is overcrowded and you don’t feel the air conditioning at all. Not only that people just get there and put whatever loud music they want disregarding anymore else around and management do not have any control on that.
When I told the manager that I did not like their machines because they were too old and that I wanted to cancel my son membership he insisted on us to try again and he decided to lure me with a free session with a guy Steven. I left that day feeling bad because I really did not want to stay there any longer and I didn’t care for any free session. I called the next day to talk to the manager again. I called again and talk to Amherst and explained to her and she said she was going to leave a message for the general manager who was very rude and said I had already miss a session and he was not going to refund the money for it even when I explained that was a free session offered by Ben. He starteD raising his voice and said that either me or my son were not welcome there and that he was not longer going to be refunded a full amount. So rude and disrespectful person. I was excited to visit 24 Hour Fitness in the hopes of finding a fitness club where my son and I (mostly my son) could work out. He is a high school swimmer and basketball player. I looked on-line and found and introductory complimentary 3 day pass for us to try. Since my son is under 18, I was told I needed to go the the 24 hour gym to sign up for the pass, that's where the problems began.
The facilities were over-crowded and had a very used tired look. (We had just visited Southern California and had a similar 3 day temporary pass to LA Fitness which turned out to be an incredibly nice, welcoming and modern club). The Sales Manager at 24 Hour Fitness, Gary **, was not a welcoming person...possibly because I'm Asian and straight. We tried to use the pool and were not permitted to because Mr. ** said my son was under 15 -- mind you that nowhere on the 24 hour website is this restriction posted; my son swims on his High School Swim Team and has swam competitively for 9 years - placing either first or second on his team in freestyle and butterfly.
Mr. ** basically said that, although the website offered us a 3 day pass, we really needed to buy an annual membership for $399 or monthly $54 membership. Having paid 5 times as much in my other club, that would have been fine, however, I wanted to try the club out before we bought. Since we couldn't use the pool, we went to the basketball courts; unfortunately, they were full. The rest of the facilities looked used and a bit run down. All in all this was a tremendously disappointing visit, especially since we had just visited LA Fitness and were very impressed -- they actually take you around and show you their facilities at LA Fitness as opposed to 24 Hour Fitness.

I work at a family owned gym and I’ve lost my job as a personal trainer. I used 24 Hour Fitness as a place that I could work out and not know anyone. Since I can no longer afford 24 hour fitness I was hoping to freeze my account until the gym opened and I was able to return to work. There is no way to contact anybody at 24 hour fitness - their voicemail says that it will be a couple of weeks after they re-open their doors before they can respond to emails. I called my bank, put a stop payment on 24 hour fitness for the next 12 months. I am appalled at how a nationwide company is treating its members. There is zero ways of communicating with this company. They said they canceled their call centers due to COVID-19 - what’s wrong with people responding to emails from home that is on their staff? I will never use this gym again nor will they get another penny from me.

This is ridiculous; taking my money, which is sparse right now, to 'attend' a facility that is not even open is criminal. Because of the negligence of this company I recommend to NEVER get a membership here. Go to Anytime, LA, or literally anywhere.

My phone calls, emails, and Tweets - NO ANSWER! This means customers like myself cannot cancel/freeze an account or even speak to someone. I reached out via phone to my local gym (Valley Stream NY) and emailed the corporate office March 16th twice! And no one got back to me. But you can charge my card almost 700 dollars! I'm new to 24hr and even paid for my first year upfront. I paid for 12 pt session already and signed up for 24 towards the end of my 12 pack. A couple of days later you closed.
The manager at the Valley Stream location lied and said they reach out to me to let me know there was nothing they can do...How are you telling me that there is nothing you can do when hundreds of people have been laid off but you can still charge my card for a service I can't get because 24hr is closed. I didn't want to do this but I am reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau! Someone please get in contact with me soon otherwise I will have to go a step further and file a lawsuit. I thought that meant for our current month, as we are not able to use the gym during this prepaid cycle. I am shocked that I was charged for the next month as the only service they are currently providing is the ability to use their APP to work out from home. I feel robbed to not have an option of either using the APP, or an option to stop getting charged for future membership (in addition to the previous 2 weeks). As far as gyms go 24-Hour Fitness is For the Working Class People like myself. I do not expect too much out of a gym. For the price they charge you get a good deal. Gyms are expensive to operate especially if they have Aquatics and Spa. The issue that I have is that a lot of people do not understand the operation of the spa part of the gym. Somewhere in muscle and fitness or Shape magazine they must have made an article that after you get done working out upstairs you go stand in the sauna with all your clothes and your dirty tennis shoes on. This is been going on for the past couple of years or maybe less.
To properly take a sauna you take a shower. Soap shower first. Put on your swimsuit with your flip-flops or shower shoes. Stay in the sauna as long as you can. Take a cold shower and go back into the sauna. Do this approximately 5 times. The people that come down with their street clothes on the stand around in the sauna for 3 minutes and run out very annoying and they track a lot of debris into the sauna because most of them only have one pair of tennis shoes that they used to cut the grass and change the oil in their car. If I was in charge of the club I would not let any Street clothes allowed in a sauna or Spa area swimming. Swimming attire only and showers are a must before hot tub, steam room or sauna.
The good news is if management reads this and enforces it they'll save a ton of money on the chemicals for the spa because you have to use less chemicals because you already taking a shower and your body is clean before you go into the spa area. I do enjoy 24-Hour Fitness I've had my membership there 10 years. I'm not going to change. It's a good value for the money we pay. Aquatics is very expensive to run. I know because I'm in the business. Hope this helps some of you. Just be sure to shower before you go down there and wear your swimming attire. Standing around in the sauna with all your workout gear and Tennis Shoes does nothing for you. It only lets the heat out of the sauna so try to take a sauna as listed above and you really enjoy it. Thank you. Patrick **. Issaquah Washington.

Then in 2015 they raised my fee to $79, which they told me would never happen. I called customer service to remedy, they said according to my contract there was a section that said they can raise the yearly amount, then sent me my agreement in an email, which had been changed to favor their response. The emailed agreement did not have my signature and was different than what I signed. A lawsuit followed and in 2018, they lost, paid back all members wronged and changed back their fee to promised amount.
Next thing that has happened is I get denied access to a supersport near me. I call customer service and inform them that I've been denied access, even though I was promised access to all gyms, including super sports, which was on the original agreement. After being on the phone for almost an hour, no remedy was made and they stuck to their lies about my contract giving me access to only 15 super sports, some which are out of state far far away, which ill never go to. We need to start a new lawsuit for this. Promising access and not granting out just to make a sale is unethical and im sure unlawful, especially when its on a signed contract. Updated on 02/09/2020: I wrote about out-of-order equipment in December, but none has been repaired or replaced since then. There was a "maintenance" day in January (the 24th). In spite of my expectation that it would fix the unusable equipment that simply occupied space, the next day I found the facility with exactly the same broken machines. What a disappointment! My workout is now quite limited at this gym due to limited availability of equipment.
Original Review: I was shocked to find on December 2, 2019 that the gym is no longer open for 24 hours. It is now closed between 00:00 AM and 04:00 AM. I used to enjoy workout past midnight, but they cruelly removed this unique feature. In addition, at this particular gym, equipment is not necessarily well-maintained. Some of my favorite devices have been out of order for months and there is no indication that they will be repaired or replaced. Staff at the reception counter is usually unfriendly or unresponsive. They seem to be indifferent to equipment failure, and do not take care of a request to replenish paper towels or liquid soaps. Worse, there is often nobody at the reception counter. Maybe no 24 Hour Fitness personnel at all in the building, which is scary. Some 24 Hour Fitness guys are seen in the room, which is used to do paperwork for new members, but they do not seem to be hiding in the room to do business.

I understand that 24 Hour Fitness is very sales heavy. The word is aggressive. Last night, my friend came with me to the gym (I am a member, as of this month) to swim some laps. She signed up for the 3 day pass. A man came up to her and asked if she wanted a tour and she told him that I would be able to show her around. I walked away from the computer and I heard him say something like, "I will set you up over here". I turned around and they were gone. I couldn't find her anywhere.
I eventually called her on the phone and I she told me where she was. When I entered the office where they were, I said, "Why do I feel like you were kidnapped?" He was immediately offended and started being very aggressive toward me, telling me they "had a process". I informed him that I had never had to do this part of the process when I tried out the gym two other times, including this location. He just kept aggressively saying to me, "We have a process". I said, "Okay, then finish your process.". He said "Thank you". Several times until I said, "Are you asking me to leave?" He said "Yes". To which I responded that I was a member there and I wasn't going to leave her in there with him. She eventually got upset at the way he was treating me, not only as a customer service representative, but as the General Manager of the gym! She got up and said, "I don't want to be a member here if this is how you treat people". We left.
My issue with this is that, no matter the sales position, or "the process", you do not have the right to aggressively scoop someone off into an office somewhere and then pressure them into to staying so you can do your sales pitch. This is not part of "the process" because I had never experienced it before. We are two young women and he was flaunting his power and preying on the hope that we would be too nice to stand up for ourselves and leave a non required step of looking at the gym. The fact that he acted this way is why I will be immediately canceling my membership.

He inquired again about splitting it between two cards and they informed him it could be done by me the next time I came in. The next time I went to the gym I asked for my billing along to be changed to my card. Which, they said they did, but they changed both over to mine so I was charged double. We ended up moving out of the area to be next to any location so he requested to have his frozen for a couple months, was not told of the recurring amount that would still occur.
I put in a request online to freeze mine, 11/11, when I looked at my 24 Hour account it showed as deactivated on 11/14, but they still charged me full membership on 11/15. I called their billing number 11/18, proceeded to be on hold for 26 minutes before the line was disconnected by them. It took another 32 minutes on the phone, majority on hold, when I finally was able to talk to a person they had no clue why I was charged my full membership fee. I requested to just cancel since it had been months of issues for me at this point, she ran through the gambit of attempting to save me as a customer but I just repeated that I wanted to cancel and a full refund of this month's membership. She stated she would put in the request for review and I could expect the refund in 10-14 days.
14 days later, I have not received my refund so I called again, spent 25 minutes on hold and then the person I finally talked to said it could be up to another 10 days before I actually see my refund of money which they took by their own mistake. I've spent a total of 94 minutes of my life on the phone with them without much progress. Today I noticed an additional charge in my bank acct from 24 Hour Fitness. I called customer service and the rep proceeded to tell me that I was charged for my annual fee in addition to my monthly fee. I was NEVER informed of an annual fee when I was toured and presented with the information! Nor was the contract visible on the keypad that I was signing. I explained all of this to the representative, she continued to state that my contract was emailed to me. I searched my email and the only thing that was emailed was a copy of the receipt. She then emailed my 11 page contract during our conversation.
This is the first time that I am seeing the contract and I searched my email multiple times and it was never emailed in June. Upon joining I was only given a receipt for my payment. I paid initiation fee, 1st and last month, and was informed that if I needed to cancel then the month would be covered because I paid the last month upfront. I stated to the rep, that I wanted to cancel my membership. Now, the rep is saying that if I cancel my "ANNUAL" membership (which I never chose), that I will be charged an insane amount of fees!!! I once again explained that I never chose an annual, I chose month to month. She proceeded to state that although I chose "month to month" it is an annual contract and that everyone is informed of this when they are signing up!!
I stated to the rep, that unfortunately since she was not present when I was signing up then she cannot really speak on what was said at that time. However, I was present and I know that all of this was never explained to me. What kind of scam are they pulling?? 24 hour Fitness is doing bad business and it seems to be a common practice based on the reviews that I have read! I have requested a manager to contact me.

Hi, I am writing review of 24 Hour Fitness 39300 Paseo Padre Pkwy, Fremont, CA 94538. Please don't join into this club. It's very dirty, restrooms not cleaned very smelly. I have added my friend on April 4th into the club. He came just one day after that he never came to the gym. So we cancelled his account in April but 24 Hour Fitness club guys still deducting my money from my account. I have told them so many times to cancel his account but they said it cancelled but still charging money from my account. It's cheating. They don't know how to cancel the membership. They don't give any proof of cancellation. Please if you want to cancel your membership be careful and ask proof of cancellation. It's worst maintenance and all equipments are old and all machines are old. Please don't join into this club. Not recommended.

If you're looking for a gym to join, this isn't it. This place is dirty. The men's locker room smells like a sewer with drains backing up. The drain covers are also rusted. In some places, the wall tiles don't meet the floor so there are gaps in the wall. Electrical outlets don't work, Some individual lockers look like they haven't been cleaned since the 1960s. This place looks like it's been around since the 1960s; lighting is substandard and it has a dingy look. As for the equipment, it is old and some of it doesn't work smoothly or at all. The workout floor is also dirty and the GM seems more worried about other things than keeping this place up to date or even clean. There are other places in Thousand Oaks that deserve your hard earned money and will work hard to be fit for it, too. 24 hour is UNFIT.

I was extremely excited about joining 24 Hour Fitness, until I found out that they did not value me as a customer, but cared about what money they could get from me. I was manipulated into signing up for personal training sessions I did not even want. I was told that my first month would be waived, that did not happen. After I signed up, which was halfway through my tour of the facility, the general manager did not care to administer showing me the rest of the facility. I had to ask the personal trainer to show me the rest. After some thought I decided to adjust my membership, taking out the personal training, thereby having a refund to reflect the change. I called a couple days after signing up and was told they would get back to me, also I sent an email and they did not respond to either.
As a result, I had to take my personal time to go to the facility in Parsippany to speak with the manager. Due to not receiving any form of response, I decided to cancel my membership in full. The manager stated I would get a full refund, then handed and emailed me a confirmation. The confirmation stated the I will receive a full amount for my membership and personal training. I only received the deposit of $10.00. I called this morning asking why I did not receive the full amount. The receptionist said they would get back to me, and of course they did not. I did not feel valued as a customer and comfortable working out at this facility. I believe they were very unprofessional in handling the situation.

There is no way it’s more energy efficient and green to have thousands of people from every gym wash their towels versus one industrial unit per gym doing the towels. Called to cancel my membership in Feb 2019. Months later in June discovered they were still deducting my account the monthly membership fee. I call the club was a member of and they said they had no record of it, but would cancel June 8, 2019. Then on June 10, 2019, they deducted $49.99 out of my bank account. I called back again to my local club and they assured me that I'd get a refund within two weeks. Over two weeks later, still no refund. I called them again and they referred me to call the Customer Service number which I did and spent over an hour on the phone with them. They told me I couldn't get a refund on the $49.99, so I've paid for a yearly membership without being able to use it....Worst company ever! Stay far away....

And when I'm out of the country I check my bank account and I have an Annual Fee for which I had no idea. They are all full of crap and of course when you call them they tell you it's NON REFUNDABLE, that means I just donated $49.99 to 24 HOUR FITNESS for not even going to their gym, and honestly they are the worst gym. They don't even provide towels anymore, the bathrooms are always dirty. Never again in my life I will be joining that gym ever again.

Allow me to preface this with a very important statement: I have never left a negative review for a company in my life--I am here now--do with that information what you will. So I have been using 24 for about a year. I made sure to not enter a contract, so I would be able to cancel at any time. What a joke. It does not matter how or what you say to this company, they will make it an absolutely impossibility to cancel your account or prevent a payment. Last month, (May 2019) I called in to ask to cancel the subscription. I wasn't using the services anymore and I was sick of paying $45/month (VASA is $20/mo and waaaay nicer). So the lady on the phone tells me she cannot cancel my services over the phone (sigh). Okay, here is the first mistake; you have clients, WHO ARE GIVING OVER THEIR HARD EARNED CASH TO YOU EVERY MONTH, and you make them have to literally hunt and find a way to stop giving you their money?
So I hang up on her, because there is no point for a customer service line if they can not assist with billing. She told me to either go into a club or send an email. It was 10 days before the next payment was due, so I figured I would just send an email. I knew I did not want to give them any more of my valuable time or money. The guy gets back and says "I can temporarily freeze the account, or cancel it entirely. REPLY TO THIS EMAIL WITH WHAT ACTION YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO TAKE." So what do I reply? "Please cancel this account. Thank you."
10 days pass. 24 Hour Fitness charges my debit card $45. I email back and say that I am pissed off and want a refund. No response. I call, but because it is after 5pm it is "after business hours". This is like the second or third mistake, although I can't be sure..this company truly ** sucks. I get an email a couple days later asking me how my customer experience was. If I sound mad now, you can only imagine what I said in that survey. Unfortunately, I have a job and family and friends so I slowly pushed this issue to the depths of my limbic system.
Here we are at the end of June. The payment was due today. I went into a club to cancel, yesterday. I have calmed down because it has been a month (Keep in mind I was charged for this last month and only went once). So I go in and ask for the manager. Out comes a small man with a frat haircut who looks like he has never once used his facilities equipment. He tells me "there is no point in cancelling, the payment process has already begun". This is mistake 15. This is the most atrocious client interaction I have ever been apart of. I didn't yell at him. I actually think the guy was too stupid to understand how ** ridiculous what he said was.
So what do I do? I walk out. I drive to the bank. And I CANCEL MY DEBIT CARD. I swear to God this is the only way to keep this criminal excuse of a company from stealing your money. I am not even in a contract. I pay monthly...and I had to cancel my debit card to stop them from stealing from me after two months of asking them to stop stealing from me. As you can tell, I am unhappy with company. My heart is filled with hate for their processes. I will do anything and everything in my power to stop anybody in my life from ever walking through their doors. DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR PAYMENT INFORMATION.

I joined the 24 Hour Fitness Super Sport because it had more "perks" than the other clubs. One of those perks was towel service and when I registered I was told by the salesperson that that's one of the reasons I'm paying extra, to get towel service. It was used as a selling point during registration. I'm definitely willing to pay extra for extra perks, but now they are getting rid of the towel service, which I can deal with. But then I receive an e-mail thanking me for being a member and my membership dues are going up. This does not make sense.
If a customer is paying extra for a service, once the service is removed then the customer should no longer be paying that extra money. They will potentially be saving thousands of dollars a year by getting rid of this service BUT they will increase my membership dues? AND selling the towels now too. I e-mailed 24 Hour Fitness and received a generic email that did nothing to resolve any issues. Their customer service is horrible and this is unfair to the customers.

I'm a customer for more than 5 or even 7 years, so long that I don't even remember. I had auto-payment set up monthly so I wouldn't miss a payment. So today I noticed that they haven't been collecting payment since January which is about 6 months from now. I called them to verify if my account is active, and they told me it was temporarily terminated but can be reactivated only if I pay what I owe. I am perfectly fine with paying for the payment they didn't collect. What pissed me off is they want to reinstate me as a new member for like $44, when I've been paying like $24. They can't bridge me because it has been more than 90 days.
She asked me what happen to the card that was set on auto payment. Then it hit me it was declared stolen because I was robbed and ended up in the hospital for a month (cervical spinal injury, which left me immobile from neck down). She asked didn't I get notification from them, after I explained the reason. I gave a "No" answer. 24 Hour Fitness had never send out or call me for anything in years. She apologized then offer to check on it for me. She came back and apologized to me that they didn't reach out to me and that there is nothing they can do. It's customer responsibility to keep up with payment, and they don't notify patient on late payment. **!! Total **!! They are so fast on terminating my contract to make me pay more for a new contract, and on top of that they want me to pay off the balance that is pending.
I asked to transfer me to the manager to file a formal complaint because I don't want to vent out on her any further when she is just representing this ** company. She told me she have a manager to talk to me and to place me on hold. Guess what, they hanged me up in less than a minute. I call them back, but the wait time is 20 minutes now. I waited 10 minutes to hear this ** from them, and now they want me to wait 20 minutes. THEY SHOULD KNOW BETTER TO CALL ME BACK. My cousin told me, you can get cheaper deal getting it through Costco. I told her this is principle. Why should I even sign up again when they want me to pay the balance (which I agreed to because it's fair, but you can't raise the monthly rate on me).

24 Hour Fitness is hungry for money and have the worst customer service starting from people at the front desk in a club and up to central customer service. First, you have no way to sign up online because your request will be under review which will never be completed. We asked for a personal trainer session and when we showed up, the trainer was not there because he was not aware of having a session and no one could notify him or us to coordinate it. For each detail, you need to actually come to the club where you got your membership which is ridiculous in the 21st century. Customer service over the phone is a joke, it took the representative 30 min to understand that I want to cancel my membership, I was on hold when she needed to process every question and as a result, she did not help to find the way to solve the problem.
A personal trainer was not very professional, I left with pounding headache every time. Yoga classes are either in the morning or late in the evening with "digital experience" classes at more convenient times. There is not enough place to stretch and exercise before you go to the machines. Also, when we signed up, we were told that we can go to any 24 Hour Fitness club. In fact, there are different types of memberships and I found out about it when I was stopped at the front desk at one of the clubs going to a class that I attended a week ago without any problems. The manager told me I have to pay $10 additionally to my membership to be able to attend that particular facility.
Feels like the only thing 24 Hour Fitness cares about is money. Information about memberships being withheld, there is a complex process to discontinue the membership even when a year membership is over. Customers have no power or control over their memberships or any matters with 24 Hour Fitness. Please, save your money, time and energy and go to a more decent place.

However, I feel that the gym was dishonest about bringing a guest to Zumba for the week after Cinco De Mayo. The instructors said that you could bring a guest for free to the Inspire Dance Festival Zumba classes. What the GYM didn't say, was that you can bring a friend as long as that friend signs up for the free one week trial. I thought that was very sneaky and dishonest of them. I had even called to make sure that I could bring a guest to Zumba and they said yes. They should have been more forthcoming saying, yes, as long as they sign up for the free one week trial. And they should have communicated that with the Zumba instructors as well so that they weren't unintentionally giving false information. Anyway, I am overall satisfied with this gym and love the classes, but I don't appreciate dishonesty.

Confused and frustrated I called customer service again asking what happened. Apparently, the person I talked to in March didn’t go through with the process and didn’t cancel my membership. The person I talked to at this point went ahead and apologized, then proceeded to cancel my membership and issued my refund within 3-5 days and also gave me a email confirmation.
6 days later, I give them another call about my refund. After 15-20 mins, the person I was talking to said that I was given the wrong information about the refund process, that it wasn’t going to be in 3-5 days it was going to be 20 BUSINESS DAYS!! That’s equivalent to a whole month. I practically just continued paying my membership at that point. The system won’t refund my money until next month in May. But I guess the good thing is that I can still go until the end of this month... Horrible experience with them, seemed like none of the people I talked to knew what they were doing. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

My fiancee also joined 24 Hour Fitness. She pays her monthly fees 37.00 on time fees. Now they want the annual fee 49.00. They did not let her into the gym even though she had satisfied payment of monthly fee. They told her the annual fee was due. Not to enter and pay immediately!!! In a very rude and disrespectful manner not even to use the restroom. They were very unprofessional. This was from the management at location in Santa Fe Springs California on Feb 8 2019. Poor management and ethics.
I have years of loyalty to this company based in Irvine CA. I will discontinue my business with this 24 hour gym and go with a gym that is fair and reasonable with the members who want my business. I don't recommend this place... for a workout. They need to get things changed fast because who knows how many people they are treating and raising the rates every quarter.

So me and my Gf go to the 24 Hour by our house in Orange County by Disneyland. We went in a couple weeks ago and when I signed in it was fine, when my Gf signed in, to said speak to representative. So we did. They said, "It’s strange. All the info was correct, just go in. It’s fine." So we did, come back in a few days, later same thing. So we missed a little over a week because we went on vacation. We come back same thing happened again, this time I said what is going on. Everything is paid, why is it giving her issues. It turns out that somebody changed her phone number and her fingerprint information to somebody else’s in Sacramento, the Capitol and McKeesport Gym.
We were shocked, how did this even happen, the only way to change that is to talk to a representative and give them your email, phone number, address, date of birth. But nobody has tried to get in her email, nobody tried to fake stuff in her name. No issues of any kind have come up as a result of this. So we work out after the representative changes the number back and puts her fingerprint back for her to sign in. After our workout I ask what gym it was, he said it was at 505 which he didn’t know the actual gym it was, only the managers have access to that. Which seriously you can’t look up to see what corresponding gym the number is.
Well whatever, I call later and speak to customer service, the lady was nice, had a thick accent hard to understand. I explain to her what happened and ask her what club it is, after being put on hold for 15 mins to returns to let me know the club. I say, "Ok how did this happen, when did they add this other person's information and delete my Gf’s?" She says, "I don’t know. The only information I have is the last 6 visits and just your Gf’s info like phone number, address, date of birth, email." So I said, "Basically you cannot see anything," she replies, "Yes basically." So I’m pissed, I ask her if the police come in here with a warrant or a subpoena for access to a certain person information, they would only tell them that they can only see the last 6 times they were here and can’t go back a month or 2, she’s says, "Well I don’t know."
Well bull crap. I know they have that information, I let her know that we signed a contract and agreement, and the fact that a representative and worker for the company, illegally changed the information of my Gf without her being there, puts her personal information at risk and could put her in harm's way, if that person got ahold of her email, phone number, address, and date of birth, not to mention her credit card information. I said, "That is illegal and I could sue you for that, for not properly taking care of your client's personal information," she said, "Oh hold on. Let me see what I can do." So I wait another 20 mins on hold, she comes back, "Sorry for the wait???? So I can put in an escalation for the case at the gym and they can let you know what happened."
I was thinking, "I was on hold for 20 mins so you can tell me that you can tell the other gym to find out what happened." I said, "Ok. Well what does that even mean, what are they going to do." They said, "Well they will find out what happened and call you." I said, "Well can I speak to someone else." She said, "Well yeah. We have someone but they can only see what we see." And her supervisor wasn’t available. So I said, "Fine, do that and send me a copy of our conversation in email form so it overviews what wasn’t said," she never sent that email, and I’m still waiting to hear back from the other Club.
I called them about 10-15 times and they never responded to my calls, so I’m waiting a few days like they said 3-5 and I hope something will come of it. She did admit it was the fault of the other club not doing their job and asking the questions they were supposed to. So At least they admitted they were wrong. Well I hope it works out.

My husband and I really loved this gym when we lived near one in Hawaii. We paid $100/month for the both of our memberships, including the $20 or so Kid's club fees. We were able to receive 2 hours of child care a day, along with classes. I loved the cycling classes and the facilities were nice. The staff was always friendly and I convinced many people to join because of my experiences. It was easy to cancel once I had to PCS for the military, and I am pretty sad there is no gym in Maryland near me. Great gym, with great workers!

WORST CLUB EVER!!! I joined at a popup tent that was advertising club. I never got contract just a flyer. No one told me if I canceled there would be a $300 charge for canceling before 12 months. My brother then committed suicide and I ended up in hospital for 3 months. I called the club and corporate every month to cancel. They said will have to continue to pay $50. per month or pay early cancellation fee. Every call was noted in computer but the managers that were supposed to call me back never did.
Monthly charges continued to come even though they recognized I have never even been to club as I never set up my check in number. No one offered to freeze my account during any of my calls so I did not even know this was an option. After much frustration and many tears they finally said they would waive early cancellation fee if I get a note from my doctor I have been sick. 24 Hour Fitness will steal your money and smile, drive you crazy, promise you the moon but fail to deliver ethically or in customer service. I took my son to 24 Hour Fitness. Try out 3 days, and he like it. So I decided to sign him up for 2 months to try out more. The sale rep (Quinn **) at Kent Washington told us that we can sign up for 2 months. We have to pay the 1st and 2nd month. When we want to cancel we have to cancel the month before and continue to go 1 more month. After 20 days I came and cancel so my son could go one more month. When I cancel, the girl said that I have a commitment one year. So I talked with Quinn and he told me that 2 months is for the 1st and last month payment and I have to paid the remaining 10 months which is $50 a month and that is I owe $500.
My son was there with me and we both didn't hear about any commitment. If there is a commitment there's no way that I sign my son up. He is only 13 and he play sport after school and he don't even drive. How he have time to go to the gym? We make a big fussed and after we videotape the incident and Quinn said that he going to cancel the membership. SCAM SCAM SCAM.

They first put my account on freeze rather than cancel. When it was automatically reinstated I did not notice that I was paying automatically for 5 months. For reasons beyond my better judgment I kept the account active, took the hit of 250$ and felt lesson learned, have to keep an eye on this company. Well I have since put my account back on freeze twice, both times they tried to just charge me anyway as if nothing ever happened. Each time I called and they acted bewildered as to how this could happen.
This last time they mischarged me was on the 10th, I called, got it cleared up and put my account back on freeze. Two days ago I got yet another mystery charge of $50 not on the primary card I have on file, apparently I gave them another card at some point and they kept it and just charged it without asking. I tried to call customer service and was on hold for 45 min before I had to go. I'm assuming this is the infamous annual service fee I am now learning about from other complaints on this site.
I will be cancelling, I really cannot stand this kind of treatment. This is the epitome of capitalism, you are a wallet to them and nothing more. Bottom line is if you are cancelling with them, make sure your account is indeed cancelled and not on hold or frozen. What happened to me is exactly what they want, a person not even aware they are being charged and not using the facility at all. And I am admittedly not great at checking my account for bogus charges, do keep an eye on this company, I'm now wondering how much they did manage to slip by me. Also just found out that they have been through court for this exact thing back in 2007. So there you have it. 24 Hour Fitness is a very greedy company that is apparently practicing the same shady business that got them in court a decade ago. Shame on them for preying on people's desire to better themselves.

I called to ask why and get it credited and they told me it was put on a "freeze" for the remainder of the year. I asked to dispute it because I was sure I canceled it knowing full well he would never use it again and they offered to refund only his monthly dues and not the $50 annual fee. When I told them I wouldn't get off the phone until they refunded me the entire amount the service rep hung up on me!!! Unbelievable. As I write this I'm on hold now for another 20 mins waiting to speak with someone else. If this doesn't work I'll just have my credit card company dispute it for me and go find another gym to join.

I then went back, and specifically described my situation, and the women up front specifically told me that the request was put in and said something like, the request has been put it, and the account should be canceled within this week. She gave me a number to call so I can check to see if it was canceled, I didn't bother to call, it was just me being lazy which was my fault. I've been swimming at a 24 Hour Fitness facility for four years. To kick off the new year they've negotiated a contract with a new pool management company that closes the pool from 1 to 2 PM, the most convenient time for me to swim. This also means that if I swim at another time around midday the pool will be more crowded and I'll have to wait to get a lane. I've swum in 5 athletic clubs in three states over the past several decades and have never run into a club where the pool was shut down at midday. Company representatives give a lot of unconvincing reasons about why it has to be this way. Basically, the problem seems to be that they don't want to buck the corporate bureaucracy, which is understandable but leaves customers like myself with a problem.
To make matters worse, the pool is unavailable on one day of the week from 11:30 to 12:30 because of an aquacise class, which leaves only 30 minutes for swimming, less than my workout time, before the 1PM shutdown. Corporate management seems to be a problem for 24 Hour Fitness. I know two former trainers who said they quit the company because of it. Like too many companies, when the chips are down, 24 seems to favor furthering their bottom line by cost cutting and marketing over providing good service.

But... if you’re looking to purchase your first membership and have other choices, I would recommend seriously considering the other options. To give you an idea of their complete lack of business sense and logic - I wanted to add my daughter to my membership. I understand monthly rates have gone up over the last 20 years. Fine. But they also want a $49 annual fee (which they won’t tell you about unless you ask). I figured they’d consider waiving the $49 fee for a family add on linked to a 21-year member. They wouldn’t even consider it. So... they turned away $31.99/month ($384/year) rather than waiving the $49 fee. Not sure if that’s desperation or just plain stupidity.

The same trash on the floor around the urinal was still there. The floors in the locker room do not ever seem to be mopped and it smells like a zoo. The toilets are always covered with urine and paper. The sinks are always broken. There is never soap in the showers or in the sinks which means that people are putting their feces and urine on the weights, which is a major health issue. There are water flies around the water fountains as well as around the wet clothes spinner. The trash and mildew in the showers are endless... and good luck if the shower heads work.
It's so dirty that you need more than flip flops to protect you from catching a disease. Once someone took a dump in the shower and when we approached the front desk they said there was nothing they could do. I have spoken with management multiple times about this and nothing has ever been done. The front desk is a pigpen and the people working there are so unfriendly. I have actually been OK with 24 Hour Fitness but now I am skeptical. Verbally assaulted at the pool for wearing a covered swimming suit: which I have been wearing for years at 24 Hour Fitness, and approved by the manager at the time of sign up. Sad that the man who did this lied afterwards, and the young staff gentleman at the desk came into the pool afterwards to get his name but instead "shushed me" over 5 times while I was telling the man not to lie. Sad this happened in East Bay, a liberal, wonderful place to live.
This gentleman even said: "She came in wearing a skirt so I "just asked her", "Are they street clothes." "He didnt "just ask me". He yelled at me three times while I stood there. I am more upset that 24 Hour Fitness has cameras in their swimming area, and no one checked that before going in to speak to him. Is this still happening to women? I guess it is. I have to answer to strangers that have nothing to do with me about my choices in life.
I walked into San Ramon pool to swim last week early in the morning. No sooner had I placed my stuff down to an elderly gentleman, he yelled, with a sarcastic tone: "Those are not street clothes, are they?" I responded "No. It's a swimming suit." Surprised I bothered to answer, but the gentleman was old enough to be a grandfather, I wanted to maintain some level of respect without just walking by. So I assured him: "It's a swimming suit." But then he got really nasty: He shouted "it better be"! I was taken aback.
I asked him not to threaten me and he said "I will". I asked him to go to the manager and complain. Instead I ended up complaining to the front desk - and the young guy who came to "help" and I use that word liberally kept shushing me while I was speaking to this man. Not happy I was assaulted at 24 Hour Fitness, not happy staff treated me this way. I have served East bay for over 10 years. Not happy that this was a racist attack. Shame on 24 Hour Fitness! I have been a member at 24 Hour Fitness since 2006 in California and then since 2009 in Texas which is roughly 12 years. For the past 2 years I have training at the Bedford, Texas location and have to tell you that this is the worst big franchise gym I have ever trained at as far as policy enforcement. Tonight 10/30/18 I told a ** guy to put his shirt on (he was running the treadmill shirtless) and the usual stuff happens - playing "the racial card", that usual slang and challenging me to a fight. Then a second man just like him (claimed he works there and they can work out shirtless) joins him and same kind of profanities. WOW.
Anyhow, every single week since I started working out at that location there are at least 5 people who throw weights on the floor, train shirtless, walk around bare feet, listening to their iPads with no headphones, so that everybody in the gym can hear their loud music and what not. This is the ONLY gym I have been to for the past 20 years. I have seen so much crap going on and no one from the staff cares. There are no signs to alert people about policies etc. In fact a few months ago I ran into a similar situation asking a group of men to turn down the music from the CD player they were carrying around and this went for 30 mins at least, before we start using profound language. Nobody was there to tell them they can't do that.
I can point at least 6-7 people who come there regularly who throw dumbbells on the floor like garbage, drop heavy weights on the ground when doing deadlifts. (I am all the way on the other side of the gym and the music is on, and the whole FLOOR IS VIBRATING from the weight pounding on the ground for 6-7 reps). People slamming weight on the machines with every single rep - the same guys, every time, that everybody see and can't stand them. Just last week there was another sweaty dirty clown walking on the treadmill shirtless dripping sweat all around him and smelling like ammonia. Where are your rules shown? This must be the ONLY location in the whole country where nobody cares that people constantly violate policy by: training with no shoes on, shirtless, slamming weights, listen to loud music and disturbing the other members. This is just outrageous.

I have been a member of this gym since 2004 and I have steadily watched the service and amenities deteriorate. I bought a renewable membership in 2004 in which you paid something like $700 up front for a three year membership that locked in the ability to renew at $100 per year. Pretty good deal right? Except... It was for the "sport" level of clubs, which 24HF began to essentially phase out by not updating their existing sport clubs. Any new clubs they opened they magically termed as "super sport" clubs.
In some cases, clubs that previously were "sport" magically were turned into "super sport"-- without any upgrades at all! It was this dirty way of essentially invalidating all of these renewable memberships out there. I've been paying a "supplemental" fee to upgrade to "super sport" membership, a process that actually makes my membership more expensive now than it would be if I had never had the renewable membership. Now, the shenanigan the company is pulling is that they have now ended towel service at all super sport clubs. Why? In order to be "green." Think about how ludicrous and flimsy that argument is.
People now have to bring in their own towels to workout and shower with, which means they are laundering them at home. Which means from a global perspective, it is not "green" at all to end towel service! It just means the company is cutting back services without cutting back on membership prices. I have completely had it with the crummy service and deteriorating experience at this chain. I would argue that you're much better off going cheaper (Planet Fitness) or more expensive. It doesn't make sense to have the worst of both worlds with this terrible company.

I’ve been a customer of 24 Hour Fitness for about a year and then I stopped going there so I called to cancel my membership and representative over the phone convinced me to keep all my benefits for 10.00$ a month so I agreed. And after a while my account got charged 44.99$ without any warnings. I called them and cancel my membership and they refunded my 44.99$. Just to note I spoke with representatives and manager as well. Few days later after my refund guess what happened? They charged my card again 44.99$ and after I called them again they refused to refund the whole 44.99$ as they do have prorated system!!! How in ** world it’s my problem as you stole my money as you took it without my agreement or authorization? It’s a FRAUD!

I’ve been a long-time member with 24 Hour Fitness, and I’m extremely disappointed with the customer service at both the corporate office and the gym at 3600 W Orangewood Ave, Orange, CA. In the beginning of August, my friend and I went into the gym asking about the membership for her. The sales rep there misled my friend into signing a month-to-month membership and said as long as she cancels before 8/25 or earlier, her bank account would not be charged. Her only expense would be the $10 initial down payment which is nonrefundable.
She signed up under my master membership, tried the gym a couple of times, and didn’t like it. We ended up canceling her membership on 8/24 or earlier. Well, guess what? A few days later, her bank account was debited by around $60. I feel bad for my friend because she was misled by a sales rep that wasn’t well trained and didn’t know what he was talking about.
Since then, I’ve called the corporate office and the gym many times, explaining the situation over and over again each time I call. In speaking to the corporate office reps multiple times, one of the reps finally said that the corporate office can’t help me and that I would have to contact the 24 Hour Fitness in Orange directly. So that’s what I did. In speaking with the gym reps, they said the cancellation for a full refund has to be done within 5 days of the membership sign up, and it’s stated on the contract that she signed. I had to explain multiple times that my friend was misled by the sales rep. The customer service rep finally said she would have to check with the general manager to see if a full refund can be processed.
On 9/4, the service rep left a voicemail on my cell stating that a refund will be processed but will take up to 20 business days. My friend has received a $5 refund, then a $2 refund on 9/12. Under the impression that my friend was going to get a full refund minus the $10 down payment, I called the gym again on 10/11. Again, I had to explain the entire situation AGAIN. Once again, I am told the refund period is on the contract that she signed. I had to convince the rep that a refund was going to be processed by playing the voicemail on speaker on my phone while I have her on my work phone. Finally, when she looked into my account activities, she said the $2 on 9/12 was all that my friend was going to get, and that the refund is based on a prorated rate. The voicemail did not mention that at all.
At this point, I am tired of dealing with the reps of that gym. I find the customer service reps at both the corporate office and the gym not helpful at all. They are not well trained. In my multiple calls with them, I had to go back and forth with them, explaining the situation each time, and each time their responses would be different and inconsistent. I find that the sales rep misleading. He got my friend to sign the month-to-month contract and misstated the deadline for refund cancellation. When I bring this issue up with the corporate office, the office points its finger at the gym. When I bring the issue up at the gym, the gym points to the contract, not taking any responsibility for its untrained sales rep.
I brought my friend over to try out the gym membership, and she was misled and money was taken from her account. It’s very embarrassing since I was the one that brought her over. 24 Hour Fitness is quick to take a customer’s money, but it is nearly impossible to get it back. The corporate office and the gym does not take any responsibility for their untrained staff. My friend and I didn’t get any good customer service at all. Perhaps expecting good customer service and that the gym would make it right is too much. For these reasons, I will neither be a 24 hour fitness member in the future nor will I recommend the membership to any of my friends. In fact, I will recommend my friends to stay away from 24. I hope this gym goes out of business for its malpractice.

One of the **, worst gyms in the country, they lock you into the contract and nothing can be done at the gym except signing up. You must call the national line to do anything, which often has over a half hour of hold time. You must do this in order to: Change membership levels, File a complaint, Do anything related to change or cancellation. They do nothing to help you when you're there and the staff is mostly bros and kids who don't care at all about anything to do with helping you nor are they incentivized that way. Bottom line: if you don't want to lose money, pay more to go to a local gym.

I am shocked and appalled by the amount of disrespect I have received over the phone when trying to cancel my account. The representative that helped me sign up lied about my account being contract free. When I discover that I need to pay a cancellation fee all of a sudden these representatives don't want to hear how I never agreed to a contract. The representative that spoke to me was talking over me the whole time as I was trying to explain the situation. I asked for her supervisor and when I finally speak to the supervisor, the supervisor doesn't want to hear what I have to say and disconnects the call.
Amazing how an American Based Customer Service team can act so unprofessionally. I never expected such disrespect and how unwilling these people are to help a person who has been a paying customer for over a year. This is unacceptable and frankly very concerning how they can be this shady forcing their customers to stay with the company and making it difficult to cancel a subscription. I just want to get out and they make it the hardest thing on earth to do. Greedy and Evil. This company is too much.

The staff are not properly trained to relate correct charges and fees to customers. They charge your account anyhow without ensuring you understand what their charges represent and make you sign several times on their tablets without printing out the agreement for you to read and understand it. They verbally mislead and tie you into a 12 months contract to drain your wallet. I paid $227.27 on 6/10/2018. Staff told me it was an annual membership fee, followed by $86.58 a month and by 9/8/2018 another $108.22 annual membership was charged to my account.
Between 6/10/2018 to 9/10/2018 I have been charged $595.23. Staff and management can't help me. I am referred up and down. To cancel the membership another problem since 9/11/2018 to 9/14/2018. You will not get a dime from my account no more. You have just lost a member. Bad staff and bad management who cannot help. Hidden charges and confusion everywhere. No staff including General Manager can resolve any issue. They will not even call you. 5 working days to get a call, if they do call you. Shame on you.

The gyms that are/or were SPORTS gyms are now changing to SUPER SPORTS gyms to charge you more for membership just because more people are going there not because they upgraded their gym with the extra amenities such as a pool, spa, basketball court. So in short you're paying super sport prices and only getting sport amenities. Well they lost a member today. That brings up another question if they lose enough members will they go back to SPORT gym prices. SPORT GYM vs SUPER SPORT GYM > GYM >GYM >POOL >SPA >BASKETBALL COURT.

Went in person and asked pointed questions on EXACTLY what we would be billed for and all the terms. The salesman explained everything to me and I even verified it back to him and then when I felt I had all the answers and felt I trusted them because I was so clear with him about my concern with hidden fees, he walked me through each screen and explained that we already talked about this, or that, etc. and it was like a full page of tiny print and after talking with him for half an hour, I trusted that. Then I got the billing, and it was NOT what he stated.
There was NO mention of an annual fee AT ALL or we would not have joined knowing it was $200 for the family when we weren't sure that 2 of our 4 would utilize it much. Then they told us we can freeze memberships anytime and I was told that again in person when I asked in the gym because my one daughter goes back to college and the other starts bball season and won't be at their gym for months. Another lie. Apparently you can only freeze for certain reasons. They teach their salespeople to scam is what I am convinced of. So disappointed, again. They screwed us years ago but I thought their past lawsuits would have changed the way they do business. Guess not :(

24-Hour Fitness uses a deceptive practice of charging a first and last month in advance. When one cancels the contract, as I did under their prescribed policy of doing so within the first 5 days of the month, in effect they charged me twice for my last month of membership -- once through paying the last month in advance and also being charged on my credit card for the same month, in effect paying twice for the same month. The general manager of the company said I had to tell them a month in advance that I intended to cancel my membership, even though there is nothing in my contract that states this. In good faith, I cancelled and expected that cancellation means cancellation, not a forewarning of cancellation but an actual cancellation, finish, end of membership, complete.
I spoke to the general manager of the national headquarters and found him to be rude and arrogant and refusing to accept the standard business practice that "the customer is always right," even though he acknowledged that there was nothing in the contract that said a member had to cancel a month in advance. Sad to say, 24-Hour Fitness management doesn't know the basics of business ethics.

I have been given the run-around regarding access to Super Sport Clubs for several months now. My latest contract from 2000 allowed access to "All Fitness Clubs and Sport Clubs", but did not includes "Sporting Clubs by 24 Hour Fitness". Now they are opening clubs and put the word "Super" in the title, apparently to allow them to close (or rename) the clubs I have access to and force me to increase my payments approximately 300% to gain access.
I have a list of 50+ clubs that I have access to, some with the "Super Sport" title. I was told at my current club that I can exchange one of the super sport locations to the one near my house, but have not been allowed to by the GM. Everyone claims ignorance when I inquire about the process. Does anyone know a way to get this accomplished, or of any pending lawsuits regarding this "Super Sport" Scheme that would be of help? I foresee a day when "Super Sports" will be renamed to 'Super Duper Sports' and the game goes on...

They said it was canceled, and guaranteed it was taken care of. Then I check our credit card in end of August 2018. They charged us 2 more months 100/mo plus the 99 annual fee. And we hadn’t been there for 2 months and we were told it was canceled. Now when I call to cancel again we cannot get a refund from the annual fee or previous month since the local agent did not note it in the record.

I have been a 24 Hour Fitness member for 19 years and I was fairly happy until recently. I contacted the company via their website to complain about the music being played at one of the clubs I go to. It is the same terrible stuff every day and it is literally robbing off the pleasure of working out. I received an email saying that “My opinion was important and I would get a response within 72 hrs.” That was more than three weeks ago. Apparently, my opinion is NOT important, and they don’t care if my workout experience at one of their clubs is not enjoyable. Not even bothering to respond to my complaint is why I consider 24 Hour Fitness to have VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!

They told me that I have to pay $40/mo. I think this is outrageous and misleading the consumer. Any help is appreciated!
