Unfortunate Marketing Strategy. I work out at the Irvine “24 Hr Fitness” facility. The facility is very popular and commonly crowded, but at certain times manageable. I recently was approached by a young associate, who offered a program of coaching, which I had been considering, to expand my workouts. This “Coach” pressed me to sign a 3-month agreement, which would continue if not cancelled. I agreed to the 3 months, because he was very accommodating about scheduling and outlined his skills in the areas that I need improvement.

After signing up, he suddenly became available only in the evenings or weekends, (the absolute worst time for crowds). The second Saturday morning appointment, he cancelled. I expressed my desire to cancel the agreement. He was quick to remind me that we have a 3-month commitment. And, by the way, these training sessions are only 30 mins each, at a cost of $40.00 per 1/2 hour. They don’t point that out in the presentation! When you see someone with “Coach” on their work attire, run, you’ll save money and get a better workout!!!

Hello, I'd like to provide feedback regarding my recent renewal process. I have been a member for several years. I've paid my membership dues for the entire year upfront. In early May I started to receive several calls regarding new lower rate for the exact membership I previously held. After speaking with an associate at this location, and since I was up for renewal, I thought WOW same membership for lower price can't beat that! Well, that couldn't be further from the truth. I paid the $233.69 upfront digitally signed all the paperwork without being advised there would be an annual fee of $64.94, It was my mishap of not reading the agreement in its entirety. However, I was advised the new membership would be the exact same as the previous membership just at a lower rate.

After I realized I was charged an additional $64.94 in addition to the $233.69 I immediately called the location and spoke to the manager called Brett. Brett was condescending, kept speaking over me before I was able to complete my sentence and advised me "you have two options, either you can keep this lower rate membership and pay the annual fee or I can move you back to your more expensive membership without the fee". In addition he advised me he would refund the membership because I was outside of the cancellation period by a few days.

As a long-time member, I feel I was deceived and was not heard when my concerns were voiced. I've never wrote any negative reviews about this location although the facility has not been upkept for several years. Needless to say, I cancelled my membership after this membership is completed due to the unpleasant experience I received.

I joined 24 Hour Fitness in May 2025, and I regret ever signing up. I was never able to use the pool, sauna, or jacuzzi after 9:30 p.m. because they were always overcrowded—especially with men who dominated the space and made it uncomfortable for others. They would sit around the pool area, behaving inappropriately and making rude comments about women, including remarks about their bodies. I reported the issue to the front desk, but instead of addressing my concerns, they dismissed me and mockingly called me a "Karen." On top of that, the facility was consistently dirty. After just a month, I decided to cancel my membership and switch to LA Fitness, which has been a much better experience.

I had been a member since 1996. I had an All-Club membership since that time. I had recurring monthly payments of $27.00 a month since I joined with no issues all these past years. At the end of last year (2024) I received emails from 24 Hr Fitness stating that my membership fees were being rejected by my bank (BofA...another business with its own issues). The fees were attached to my debit card. There was no reason that I knew of for this problem. I went to my local 24 Hr location to inquire what to do since I was late on payments and had no idea why the bank had been refusing the debits. I was allowed to re-apply for a new membership for $1.00 and according to the employee, everything was back on track. I was pleasantly surprised that everything was so easy. That was 3 months ago.

Today, I received a call from 24 Hr telling me my membership had been terminated due to non-payment since October. I explained what had occurred and that to my knowledge, everything was ok with the membership. He told me that he saw that I had been in 3 months earlier, but that a half hour after that re-application transaction, the payment was declined. 24 Hr never notified me of this. He offered me a new All Club membership for $33 a month saying that my old membership was one club only. I said I had always had an All-Club membership, and he said that was rescinded after Covid. I was never notified of that, either. What is wrong with this organization that they feel it's ok to treat their members like this. Typical American corporate attitude in my opinion. I told him that none of these issues had been brought to my attention by 24 Hr after I supposedly dealt with the matter and that my resolution was to part company with his organization.

Now I will go to BofA and cancel any debit withdrawals to 24 Hr. You would think that since they hadn't been paying 24 Hr for whatever reason that I wouldn't have to do that, but if I don't, BofA will start suddenly paying the debit again! Just the way things seem to work these days! SMH. I will admit that I hadn't been going to the gym in quite some time, especially during Covid, but had kept my membership (or thought I had). I have an outdoor patio home gym now but liked the idea of going to 24 Hr for the amenities, when the weather isn't so great for a patio workout and/or just for a change of pace now and then. I also admit that I don't overview every single monthly debit payment that my bank supposedly makes because I assume it's being handled. I guess I'll look for another gym now. I'll also contact BofA to see why this was occurring, but I'm sure I'll get more shoulder shrugging and insincere apologies from someone in India.

I've been a member for many yrs. and the facilities have gotten VERY dirty. Dust, hair, gum, trash ALL over the floors in the workout area, as well as the locker rooms. It's so filthy I'm afraid to lay my gym bag on the floor! The manager just walks around BSing with the people and never taking care of business. The roof had been leaking during rainy season and they waited months later, yet rains came again and it was sooo bad, that rain was dripping on the TVs, overhead lighting, lots of equipment, etc. to where they would just use trash cans and yellow tape to prevent anyone from using the equip. Talk about a safety issue where anyone could have been electrocuted or slipped and broke their bones! They did have roofers come (Finally) and do some stuff on the roof, but I guess we'll just wait for the rains again...

I purchased a membership to ALL 24-hour gym locations back in 2019. They changed a lot of their gyms to be classified as " supersport," and now I am not able to get into a lot of their gyms I used to go to all the time. I asked a bunch of people that work at their front check-in areas and the only thing they say is I have to CANCEL my current membership (which I paid a high fee up front to get my lifetime membership to ALL gyms) and start a new membership and just take that loss... there is no expanding or adding on to a current membership.

You can only start a new membership and eat whatever you put down initially which for me was around $1000. PLUS if you go to the gyms, most of them are very dirty and the bathrooms are not usable and not kept at all, and if you don't believe me just go visit a few. I don't have an alternative option available to suggest but hopefully, they change their policy and allow people with preexisting memberships to use their gyms as promised in writing.

They automatically charged my credit card for a renewal when I was not using the facility nor agreed to such a charge. They refused to refund it, even though I went in-person and called within a day of the charge posting to my credit card. A family member paid for a membership and "gifted" it to me initially, I DID NOT SIGN ANY FORMS AGREEING TO AUTO RENEWAL. I never received notification of auto-renewal.

I have not used any of your facilities since November 2024. I can not access the local gym due to congested parking which has resulted in damage to my car several times. I can not attend Group X classes that I registered for because I can not obtain parking in a reasonable time frame. The website's "manage membership plan" does not actually manage a membership plan. There is no way to check membership renewal date, remove my payment method, or cancel online. I have called Corporate several times, as directed by staff at the Walnut Creek Gym, and I cannot speak to a representative. Every time it says "customer service is unavailable" and hangs up on me. I emailed corporate, received a generic inaccurate response. I have emailed twice since with no response. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SPEAK WITH ANY CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE.

I just made yet another phone call to speak to the manager, who told me I should just block my number if I know how to do that. I’m very disappointed with the 24 Hour Fitness Pleasanton location due to their difficult and unclear process for disabling auto-renewal. My 16-year-old son had switched to another gym and tried to cancel his membership, but their website made it nearly impossible to stop the auto-renewal. On the same day I noticed the charge, I called to cancel and request a refund, but they refused. This is unacceptable, especially since California law (Health Studio Services Contract Law, CIV §1812.80-1812.97) requires that customers have at least five business days to cancel a gym contract after signing. 24 Hour Fitness should make their cancellation policies more transparent and comply with the law instead of taking advantage of customers. Be cautious if you’re considering a membership here!

Long story short, they and their General Manager, Justin, make canceling a membership nearly impossible, even when following their own written contract terms to the letter. If you go in to sign up for an initial membership they will be all over you get you signed up, but if you want to cancel a membership suddenly none of their “Managers” can be found at all and for extended periods. Their own printed contract clearly states that you can “Visit your local club and speak with a team member for assistance “. Unfortunately, none of their so-called “team members” has read or is even vaguely familiar with their employer’s own contract terms. So their contract instructions are bogus and canceling becomes a real PITA.

I was upset as I did not know that there would be an additional annual fee besides the membership fee. I was able to get a hold of someone via phone (outsourced to who knows where, of course), and I was told that the $29.99 was an annual "maintenance" fee. What in the world is that? It's just one of those hidden fees they tag on to pretend to keep their annual prepaid rates low. I prefer NOT to do business with companies who have such shady business operations, trying to deceive their customers. We were a given customer on an annual auto-renew plan. I just cancelled that membership for a full refund. Greed kills! There are other gyms out there who charge $10 per month. They are now getting our business. Shame on 24-Hour Fitness!!
