I received 6 notices in the mail from Suntrust Bank stating they are closing my account due to suspected fraudulent activity. Two major problems here, 1- I do not nor have I ever had a Suntrust account of any kind! 2- all 6 notices had different account numbers on them! How is it possible to open several different accounts in someone else's name in such a short time frame?? I am pissed! I have tried relentlessly to speak with someone at Suntrust, the customer service & risk mgmt/fraud dept is a joke! I will be going to the police asap!!

I will never do business with Suntrust again, having been with them for 16 Years, I feel totally ripped off. I went in to the local branch of Suntrust Bank today to pay off my Mortgage Loan - woo-hoo and they hit me with a late fee of $20 for the month of January. I was on an Automatic Deduction for the past 16 years but they never deducted my January payment, and there was money in my checking account to cover this 'automatic' deduction. I was told that the loan had matured and that it rolled over into 'something else' and I should have known this. I was never given notice of this procedure by Suntrust. I asked them to waive the 'late fee' and they said no. Period! I pointed out that I had paid my loan on time for the past 16 years and was not aware of this procedural way they were doing business. This is morally wrong and I firmly believe that several laws have been broken!!
I wonder how many other people this has happened to? I believe that this is extortion and Federal Law has been broken by Suntrust. And also wonder what course of action to take next (any good attorneys out there). They should not be allowed to rip people off like this and I will not let this go because I am a man of principle. I feel cheated by Suntrust Loan Dept. and will not be recommending this company to my neighbors or friends. Suntrust, it was a bittersweet day for this old geezer and you won't get me down even though I feel a little stressed! Anyway my friends, be very wary of this bank and don't get caught like I was. I will still live the American dream! Take Care!

I have been with Suntrust for 6 years and here recently I went to withdraw my money and was interrogated by the teller, she was very rude asking what I'm I going to do with my money, ask me to sign my withdrawal slip twice. I have never been treated with much disrespect before. I called, left message to speak with the manager at around 9 a.m. Didn't get a callback so I proceeded to go to the bank and close my account since I couldn't get her to call me back about this matter. Then in November I called about a payment taken out of my account twice, they cancelled my card January like really it took two months for them to do this. After I leave with my money the manager had the audacity to call me not even 20 minutes later. They sit around and discuss you before returning your call, very unprofessional. They never have to worry about me again.

I opened Suntrust Checking and Saving account because currently, they were offering 250$ promotion. I maintained my direct deposit for 6 months to get this money but when I call them to get this promotion they said 'you got 2 direct deposits in one month and did not get any deposit in the following month'. My employer just deposited my salary one day early on November 30th not on December 1st. For just one day, they said I do not qualify requirements for getting this promotion anymore. Another problem is their system is really slow and I cannot see my transactions on time. I had to check my accounts over and over again. I do not recommend.

I have been with Suntrust for almost a year. I have always kept a healthy balance between my checking and savings account with zero problems until recently. Unfortunately, I deposited a check that ended up getting returned and it was flagged for fraudulent activity because it overdrew what was in my checking account at the time (the check had posted and I had moved the funds to a different account).
My account is now back in the green because of my regular direct deposit from my employer (that has been made for as long as the account has been opened) and I am going round and round with Suntrust to release my funds. I am not getting phone calls returned in a timely manner without needing to follow up myself. Then, after the initial three day fight I was told there was nothing they could do at the branch level and that I would need to contact the Customer Service and Fraud departments myself. I would have been happy to do that from the beginning instead of having my time wasted.

I have had a checking account with Suntrust for several years and have carried a balance in the low 5 digits. Due to work related opportunities, I have temporarily moved to Europe. When I called Suntrust and asked for a debit card, I was told by a junior person that they have an internal rule that they can't open the account unless I show up in person or do it online. The website didn't work, so I emailed Richard **, Vice President, Branch Manager, Hagen Ranch, SunTrust Bank (attaching evidence of the website malfunction) and he replied, "I do apologize but I am only to submit credit card applications for clients that are physically present in the branch." He obviously could have helped me, but chose not to do so. There is no law against opening a new account for an existing client over the phone. I am far away from home and fuming... with no options except to broadcast my experience here.

They cashed my check and did not post to the account. Their response did not make sense, stating I "made the payment with a credit card", which was obviously false, since I had attached a copy of the cashed check in my original note to them. I have made multiple further inquiries with no response. From Customer Support 01/30/2017: "I understand your point regarding line payment. I have reviewed your account and see that, you have processed the line payment from your credit card. Please be informed that, you can not make your loan/line payment using your credit/debit card. Also please know that to make a payment to a consumer loan or line, use the Move Money service within Online Banking. Hence, the payment of $1,000.00 has not been posted in your line account."

I have had four accounts with Suntrust. I currently have an everyday checking account and a business account. Last week, I could not get into my business account. The online banking and mobile banking is down constantly. After 30 minutes of talking with customer service, they told me that my account had been corrupted on their end somehow, which is why I was locked out of my account. I had to totally recreate my account. They were not able to tell me HOW or WHY my account got corrupted, just that something happened on their end. Does the public have my info? What does this corrupted account mean?
I then filed a complaint. The woman who answered my complaint can't tell me what is wrong with my account either. How do you run a business this way, let alone dealing with people's money? As if that isn't enough, I tried to log into my everyday checking account and I am not unable to access that either! All I get is incorrect username and password. It is Sunday night and I need to pay bills!!! No one at the customer service number can help me because online banking is closed. This is completely unacceptable. It is unacceptable that I cannot get into my account. It is unacceptable that Suntrust somehow did something to corrupt my account. These are their exact words - "Your account was corrupted somehow on our end but that is all I know." Horrible experience with them. I am changing banks tomorrow because, despite these issues, the online banking is down so much I am never able to access my account.

This is worst bank to do any type of business. They are all about protecting themselves and not protecting the clients. Because I had a joint acct. and the other person was a victim of scam, they stole my money to cover themselves. When I tried to recover my money, they gave the run around and told me the money is gone. $4000! They took it without alerting. I spent hours on the phone only to be treated like a victim. Basically, this bank doesn't care about their customers or their assets, they only care about themselves. They don't go the extra mile or consider your problem. They are all about covering their backs with logistics. I'm closing my account and will spread the word so that nobody gets treated like I did.

I've had 2 bad experiences with this bank. The 2nd just happened. I received a refund check of $1000.00 from my attorney in another state. The check was from a Suntrust acct. I do not have an acct with Suntrust, because of 1st experience. I just wanted to cash the check to go pay bills, so I thought it would be best to go cash it at a Suntrust branch. I walk in, present my ID & I'm asked do you have an account with us. I said, "No, I do not." So I have to pay a $7.00 fee!!! Are you kidding me? The check is drawn on this bank!!! I should have went to Walmart. They only charge $3.00. This is beyond ridiculous!!

Have always used Plant City locations without a problem and have only been into this location 3 times and been a waste of time 2 out of those 3. A notary signs saying that they acknowledge you are who you say you are and sign off saying they saw you signed that damn paper! But no. These ladies obviously are incompetent!

I have never had a account with them, I called the number provided which then I had to speak to 3 different non-speaking English people. When I had asked them for the information for where these accounts were opened told me that since these accounts were closed they did not have the information. I finally spoke to someone that spoke English. She said that these accounts were open in Morristown Tn on the 10th of this month and were not closed till the 12th when something just did not seem right.
The person that had opened up these accounts had all of my information. Opened up 5 checking accounts and 3 savings account in the same day. I am not going to call the branch where they were opened at. I will be waiting at their door at 9am. I am filing a police report and my attorney will be advise of this too. I am a single mother trying to go to school which I will not be able to go to school tomorrow just to deal with this. Things just don't add up.

Suntrust has cut out displaying Daily balances, on website. This has got to be the most aggravating way, to do accounting that I have ever experienced. The only total you can see is what is available. I have been with them for 20 years but I will be looking around this year. It's so inconvenient to change. But I am pissed off every time I go into my business account. Someone called me today and asked how do I like Suntrust. "I know you have been banking with them for years." I said "go to a bank that understands your needs." I don't even understand how that can be a legitimate accounting practice.

Worst financial institution that you can deal with. I've opened 2 accounts at the Nashville airport branch, and at the time they had an offer of 250$ with new accounts. I was told that the reward will be deposited into the account within 8 weeks. First, they sent me 2 bad bank cards that I couldn't activate or use, and they have never sent me the checkbook they promised too so it took me a while before I was able to use my money in the account.
Also now it's 6 months later, and I've never gotten the reward, so I called the branch manager who first said they've never had that promotion. Then after trying to convince her that they did she tells me that I didn't even open my account at her branch. Then after convincing her again and arguing for a few minutes she tells me that I didn't get the reward because my account went in negative 7 months after opening the account. So you can probably tell that all their ads are false. Also anything the manager claims is a policy and I ask her which part of the policy, she says this part is usually verbally said but not written so she will claim any policy is their bank policy and tell you that they verbally told you about that policy.

This bank bites. Husband had a stroke in March. Filed POA in May. As of today I've had to go to banking centers 4 times to verify my POA. Have my name AND MY executors name on checks. Yay. Have had to "chat" with customer service 7 times because system only lets me use online 1 time. That would be after getting new sign on from them AFTER verifying again, yes I really am on account. This requires about 30-40 min per "chat" and a supervisor. EACH TIME. Does Suntrust talk to themselves? BTW - to get "chat" go to "new customer". Otherwise, it's MIA. Thank you God, husband finally agreed to close this account!

I opened a checking and a saving account with Suntrust for my mother. The bank was nickel and diming every transaction so I decided to close the checking acct due to frivolous charges. $3 statement fees, $7 maintenance fee every month. Closed the checking acct in August and they informed me that my check would take 7-10 business days. 2 months later in October I called the bank and they informed me that the check was just sent 4 days ago. I got frustrated and closed the savings account there and then. I received the funds in the savings account in 10 business days as promised but till date have not received the funds from the checking account more than 5 months since the account was closed.
I called them today 12/9/16 and the supervisor was disputing when my acct was closed if it was in July or Aug as if that makes the fact that it taken them 4.5 months to process a check. She claimed the funds were sent in August which was a lie since someone from her bank informed me that they just sent it in October. They now want to send me a form that I will take to a notary to sign for them the resend the check. Mind you they messed up, they have held my funds for the past couple of months, haven't paid any interest and want me now to get a note signed that I haven't received funds that in their system has not been cashed?
Ridiculous worst bank ever. Even banks in the third world are not this horrible. Suntrust bank wins the worst bank in the world award in my. Would not recommend this bank to anybody. They have no business in the banking world. They deserve the less than 1 star rating if it is possible to give them a minus 5 star I would.

I am trying to close out this account because they post transactions in order to produce the most fees possible! I had 2 transactions that I did on 11/30 that would have resulted in my checking account having a balance of $7.70. I was going to wait for my last direct deposit, write myself a check for the balance then close the account. Well I didn't change 2 reoccurring drafts in time so they came out of this account (my bad, I will take the OD fees for these 2). However, Suntrust posted the 2 reoccurring fees first (even though they didn't even show up until the day after my first 2 transactions, so instead of 1 fee I got 4!) If they would have posted them in the order they were done then only 1 fee should have been assessed, maybe 2 but one transaction would have only brought the account negative $2.20. I know I made a mistake but so did they. Difference is that I own up to my mistakes and they do not!

On 11/25, Suntrust charged a "check card adjustment" for $20 because the gas station "requested" another payment since they hadn't received their funds. So my account went into a negative. I was charged an overdraft fee and a threat that if I didnt have it fixed there would be an extended overdraft fee. I spoke with 4 reps and they told me it was an accident on Suntrust for trying to manually input the charge and the funds would come back to my account. After 48 hours I noticed that it wasn't fixed, I called Suntrust and I was then told I would have to call the merchant to find out about the request they made. The merchant stated they never requested any additional funds and they couldn't help me. So Suntrust made a mistake and refuses to fix it but I can dispute the item which can take 10 days. Ironically, the account closing was dated 10/31/16, and the ODP notice is dated 11/01/16. Seems legit. So when I called, they asked me for my SS number too. I didn't give it to them. So today I get 5 letters in the mail saying "Due to information obtained during a review of your account, we have determined it is necessary to close your relationship with SunTrust immediately." The wording of the letters seem suspect.
When I called the phone number; the people who answered could barely speak English, and acted in a way that did not seem professional. I've never seen a banking site undergo more scheduled maintenance than this one. My advice to SunTrust: If you cannot figure out a way to support online banking like it should be supported, then just throw in the towel and go back to paper ledgers during regular business hours. Expect to lose a lot of your customers though when you revert back to the sixties.

We purchased a home in 2013, and financed the loan through SunTrust Mortgage. One of the conditions of the loan was that the mortgage payment be directly debited each month from a SunTrust bank account. To satisfy this requirement, we opened a SunTrust bank account and set up a direct funds transfer at the end of each month from our other bank to cover the mortgage payment. For over three years, this has been a seamless and fully electronic relationship, which benefits us and also the bank and mortgage company. The funds are transferred at the end of each month and the mortgage company debits the SunTrust account on the tenth of the following month.
Two days ago I received a call from SunTrust Mortgage stating that our October payment was delinquent, as the SunTrust bank account had been closed. Upon investigation, we were informed that the bank closed the account due to the fact we had not been visited the bank or verified our account (what?!), despite the fact that there was activity each month, inbound credit from us and outbound debit from SunTrust Mortgage. At the time of the account closure, the account contained the amount of our monthly mortgage but as the account was closed, the sister SunTrust Mortgage company was unable to collect the payment!
We now need to request a refund, which will take 90 days, open a new account by physically visiting the bank, inform our other bank of the change in monthly ACH account numbers, and make a second monthly mortgage payment this month since our funds will not be released pending some kind of 90 day review. We will be investigating alternatives to this relationship, and would advise anybody considering a bank to AVOID SunTrust.

Please do not deposit your checks into Suntrust bank. If you do then it's a very good chance that Suntrust will misuse and or abuse your money. In other words you may never see that deposit at all. Who is monitoring these banks to make sure they are not breaking the rules or are they just able to do whatever it is that they want to do and nothing. I mean nothing is being done about it. How is it that they can just steal your money by chewing it up in made up fees and unorthodox charges and no one seems to care. It's just wrong. And it's bad to say that Suntrust is not the only bank and credit union to do this to customers. Wells Fargo, BancorpSouth, Renasant, Members Exchange, Regions, Trustmark, BankPlus to name a few.
All have that same reputation for false promises to consumers just to get their business in order to steal your money. I have only been with Suntrust since March and this is by far the worst financial institution I have EVER had!! I opened my account with 6,000 cash but when I deposited my paycheck a week later they decided that it could be fraudulent and froze my entire account. It took them a week to decide that my paycheck was good and unfreeze my account.
Then they are continuously hitting me with overdraft fees which I thought maybe I am just messing something up but nope I'm not. I write everything in my Suntrust issued register (you know the one they give you to keep up with your account). Well I finally caught them!! I used my card on Monday and Tuesday then wrote a car payment check on Friday. Now I had wrote in my register exactly what I had spent and knew what my balance would be (which granted I was scraping pennies) but they waited a week before they took out my debit purchases, they cleared my large check and then hit me with $216.00 in overdraft fees when I have in my Suntrust issued register that I should have only been negative 40.00 plus the 36.00 fee. So that is negative 76.00, Not negative 264.00.

I realized Suntrust had been charging abhorrently large maintenance fees to my account for years. It began to bother me especially when I realized the fee didn't correspond to any fee schedule they advertised. I mean 20 or so years of using my money, you'd think they would let me know I could do better. So to remedy this, I had to close one account and open another. Everything was supposed to transfer to the new account, cut up the old card. Well that didn't happen. My deposit went to the account I thought was closed, and they charged me twice for a return check fee, even after I went to the branch and told them I didn't want any payments made from that account.
They hadn't linked the new account to online banking, so I couldn't even see it. I come to find out an account stays open for 30 days. It only closes if no one attempts to put a charge on that account. CLOSE THE ACCOUNT! How hard is that? I am moving my business away from ST in the first place because THREE times a scheduled online payment didn't happen. THREE times to the same competitive bank. Go figure. By time three, I knew it wasn't my fault. They of course have no record of it. Then how about this bank representative opening up a line of credit I didn't ask for? SOOO tired of dealing with these people.

Later that afternoon, I wrote two checks to that totaled $30 and had a debit card purchase of $26. Suntrust charged me a $36 overdraft fee for each of the checks ($72 total) even though I had enough money in the account to cover the purchases. My online statement even shows a positive balance after each check & overdraft fee is applied. I have called Suntrust customer service 5 times and after jumping through hoops to get a person on the phone the call just drops. I don't see how this is legal.

This month my payroll funds were kept in pending status for 24 hours after they should have been available to me. I believe they were holding the funds in pending status so that when I paid my house payment they would hopefully overdraw my account. Their policy states that payroll funds that are electronically received are to be available immediately. I will be checking my account very closely to see if they do this again. Who can I complain to in order have this investigated?

After visiting the downtown branch, I told that it had all been corrected. Five days later, here I sit at Suntrust again, with another overdraft fee because too much time has passed. This is exactly what has happened to me. I complied with all the bank's condition, so that I would receive the above promotional money -- to no avail! The funny part of it is that no one -- either in the branch or the central headquarters wants to acknowledge that there was such a promotion. On several occasions I have experienced a lack of interest from management of this bank. Don't even think of calling them, you will be treated like a pest or 'disconnected'. Even though I knew I had a more than adequate balance I experienced my debit card being denied. So I called, and was asked if I had called the number on the back of the card. She then changed her mind and said she would connect me with someone who would help me. After 5 minutes on hold, I hung up. I called the number on the back of the card and got to talk to someone who was very mechanical and checked with the "security desk". I was told there was a suspicious attempt at a purchase online, I said "THAT WAS ME".
My AC went out and I was trying to order one thru site to store and made a mistake on the input. Not serious enough to lock my debit card, but you can't communicate this to them. ALL of this could and should have been handled by the tellers but they are not allowed to make customer phone calls a priority. This was not the first time I have had an issue with blocking access to my money or phone calls. The first phone call issue was when I tried to RETURN the call of a teller who was helping me consolidate my credit cards to a Suntrust credit card, but the witch in the back would give her the message.
This mini bank is convenient, but THAT IS ALL. So now I look for another bank, maybe I can find one who isn't so twitchy. I have to give kudos to the tellers, they are the sweetest and most helpful people, but aren't allowed to answer phone calls. The first block on my card was handled without the hassle or insults; handled by a teller. After a full day on the job, having to go back out to go to the bank for a little problems like that cancels out any 'convenience' their location provided.

My son moved to Atlanta to start a new job. The job turned out to be people impersonating a company in Arizona. The impersonators sent him a check to deposit into our joint account for $6,900.00, which he did. They then told him to withdraw the money the next day and put it into a Bank of America account so the "software engineer" could purchase the hardware and software my son would need for his new job. The check of course was fraudulent. We filed a claim with the Suntrust Fraud dept. and my son also went to the Atlanta police and filed a claim. I called the Suntrust fraud dept 4 times and was never able to find out anything and they never contacted me!
It turns out after I got my bank statement almost a month later that Suntrust STOLE $6,900.00 out of my personal account to cover the fraudulent check and they are refusing to return my money to me. I am being victimized by Suntrust. They should be going after the people who wrote the bad check not me. Why did we file a fraud report with them if they just took my money without even telling me? My loan was sold to Suntrust at some point - my first payment to them was March 2016. Shortly after I received notification, I called to find out what I needed to do to ensure the tax bill was paid on time. The person on the other end said that they receive the bills directly from the town and that I did not have to do anything but I could fax them if I wanted to. So I tried to fax and it kept failing so I called back. I asked if I could scan and email or upload to confirm receipt and they said "no, we don't do that here" so I asked if they had a different fax number.
As it turns out, these were supplemental bills which the town does not send directly and they needed to be faxed; I faxed in the documents in March. In early June, I receive demand for payment notification from the town indicating that if the payment was not received in 2 weeks, there would be additional fees. I was told that it would require an investigation that would take 2 weeks so I requested that it be expedited. The person told me they would submit that request. I called back a week or so later and was told that the parcel ID number on the bill was wrong and it would need to be straightened out before the bill could be paid. They said it would take another 2 weeks. This goes on and on for many weeks. I spoke with a Desi, Nathan, Laura, Sandy, Miss ** and others - I stopped taking their names as it had become useless.
I finally received a call at the end of July to let me know that it had been paid. It cost me an additional $100 in fees that they were unwilling to take responsibility for. When I finally received the notification, I called the town to confirm. The town had no record of payment (which I later found out that the only the request for payment had been submitted) and furthermore informed me that the regular tax bill had not been paid and was also late. It is now mid-August and I have yet to hear back. Now another payment was due on 8/1 and my bet would be that it also has not been paid. I wish I could fire them.

No one contacted me to notify me of a problem. They just decided to freeze my account after I deposited $10,000. I found out when I tried to log into my account.
When I called all I was told is that the fraud department flagged our account and froze it, are closing it and they would send us a check! This is a business I have bills to pay. So in the meantime they have my money and are declining all my online payments. We are a service company and we deposit 20-50 check daily, have been for the last 20 years. We did nothing different. Upon contacting Suntrust we were told that our account was set to a "no debit status" and the check we had deposited was being held until the 11th because they received "confidential information" that the check was not good. I was told that after the 11th they would hold the money for 5 more business days and then a check would be mailed to me within 7 to 10. That means this money would not be available to me until around the 25th of August. This is a paycheck.
I was contacted by Audrey ** on 8/9 due to me tweeting about this issue. She stated that Suntrust contacted the financial institution where the check was written from and we're told that the funds were available. I was then told that this would still need to be reviewed by their "back office." Because of them not allowing my family to have this money we have overdrawn our other account, and have accumulated fees and have not been able to pay our rent. ATM not working is a continual problem. Just in the last 6 months, I have incidents that have caused overdraft fees. I monitor my account daily and when I notice that if an item has not cleared and I need to put money in my account to prevent overdraft I deposit cash. I go to the outside ATM, insert my card, the ATM freezes up and won't release my card. The employees at the branch can't release my card and a remote service has to fix it. The employees wave at me when they leave but say if I have any items bounce they will refund the fees. I wait over an hour and finally my card is released and the ATM shuts down and I can't make my deposit and I get overdraft fees, but they reimburse.
Another time, I have tried to deposit cash trying to beat the 9pm deadline and get to the ATM at 8:45 but it is broke and the nearest ATM is 45 min round trip. 6 debit transactions hit and Suntrust refused to refund all of the multiple fees assessed because they have already given me my "get out jail card." This bank is really going downhill. I checked my online statement yesterday and it showed a $36.00 charge for being TEN CENTS overdrawn, with a note that if it wasn't brought current by the next day they were going to charge another $36.00 for an extended overdraft! This isn't the time they have pulled something like this, but it is the worst. They have rearranged the order of checks that have come in up two days after they have cleared to be able to charge a late fee if something else comes in later.
Two years ago they also shut my debit card off when I was in the Bahamas, thinking it was stolen. They said they tried to call me to verify it and sent a letter but I didn't respond, so they kept declining everything. This is financial profiling. I just got off a fifteen minute on/off hold asking for a customer service address at Suntrust's Corporate Headquarters in Georgia where I could send a letter about my "customer service experience". This address is not known to call center agent, nor to his supervisor--or even a phone number to call. I am concerned for actual customers of this bank because I would not want my sensitive personal information available to employees who cannot answer this very basic question.
My sister in law was a customer of SunTrust. I am trying to help my brother wrap up her affairs. I spoke with Amy today about the problem we are having, and after a brief conversation with Amy, her final comments on the problem were if my sister in law had her accounts set up correctly before she passed away, beneficiaries and all of that, we would not be having this problem. I doubt Cheryl was thinking about the status of her bank accounts the afternoon of December 4, 2015 when she ended her life.
I retained an attorney to handle Cheryl's affairs in January of 2016. We are filing a Summary Administration in Florida because Cheryl had an estate worth less than $5000 when she died, and probate is not necessary. Cheryl did have some money in a savings account, the last statement the total funds in this account are less than $5000 but we do not have the exact amount, which is needed in order to file the Summary Administration. SunTrust keeps quoting statutes that apply to Probate proceedings and will not release any information about her accounts to the attorney that has been retained to handle this process. Now we will have to file in court a petition for SunTrust to appear and be ordered by the judge to release this information. We will have to pay additional fees for this process, as well as wait another three months because the Probate Court is backlogged with cases.
It is difficult for me to believe that there is not an individual at SunTrust who could look at this situation and make an intelligent decision, especially since they are holding a loan that remains unpaid because this process is so goofed up. The privacy rights of my deceased sister in law are a non-issue. Following Cheryl's death, we advised SunTrust of her passing. They would not shut down the accounts until we brought in the death certificate, which was not released by the Medical Examiner for a number of days.
SunTrust had no problem allowing auto debits to hit the account and no problem charging over $700 in fees and overdraft charges to this deceased customer (her employer immediately discontinued direct deposit of her last paycheck) We had to bring the death certificate in to the bank twice before proper notifications were done and the accounts were closed. Difficult enough to deal with the passing of a family member, especially a very sudden and tragic death.

I had a Suntrust account from when I was in college because my mom's company had a deal with them and she was able to get me free checking with them which was great and at that time many years ago they were a good bank. My account started to get hacked a few years ago and a good portion of my cash would go missing and I would end up bouncing my automatic payments I had set up. I would report it and what started to make me realize that the bank was no long about the customer was when they closed my account, gave me the money back that was stolen, but still made me pay the late fees saying that it was my fault... Well needless to say I left Suntrust and went to PNC and couldn't be happier with that choice. I still however own a Suntrust Credit Card and for the most part I didn't have a problem with them...
Until recently, I got notice that I was "late" on my payment to them which I knew to not be true so on 7/26/2016 at 9:30am I called in to complain as I had my banking info up and showed that my payment all cleared before the 20th due dates. The lady on the phone was very combative and kept telling me that I did not know how things worked and because of bill pay that even if I sent early and my bank clears my payment to Suntrust on the 17th doesn't mean that it was paid to my account on time...
I fail to see how them not applying the proper payment on the proper day is my fault, needless to say I fought that with her and she said "fine I will reverse the late fee but you have to pay it for this month and next month" and then it would be reversed and my September payment would be back to normal... HOW DOES THIS MAKE SENSE?!? If I could give them negative stars I would but the minimum I can do is 1 star and warn anyone who thinks Suntrust might be a good idea to be so very deeply wrong.

I had been thinking that there is no need to have multiple bank accounts at different banks. Oh, I was so wrong!!! I shared with her that I am grateful that I didn't close my account at the credit union and I had a backup checking account outside of Suntrust Bank. I am sharing this experience with everyone that these big banks don't care about anyone but their own interests and their own bottom line in making a profit at our expense. This is a personal wake-up call for me and anyone who will read my post to do your banking at a credit union where their motto is "people helping people." I shared with Desiree that I am not mad and I will close down the account, but I wanted an explanation as to why they are closing down my checking account. I have done nothing to warrant this action from Suntrust Bank.
In my possession, I have a copy of my monthly statements from Dec 2015 and my final receipt from today showing that my account has a zero balance. Plus, the bank has shared with me numerous times, that I am prequalified for a credit card at Suntrust Bank. Do they really think I will accept a credit card from them? I am grateful that I already have a credit card from the credit union located in California. I just want to thank Suntrust Bank for this experience. So why tell me to check with my local branch for more information when in fact they are being told the same thing as me? 15 days later I finally received a letter dated June 1, 2016. This letter had nothing to do with my current check and saving account. In fact, it referenced an account that I closed after I made sure the balance was 0. This account I called the bank after I notice unauthorized activity and later on the bank sent a letter stating they closed the investigation since the transaction never hit my account.
I go back into a local branch because now this letter I just receive on an account which I closed has impacted my current accounts to be explained to me and here it is. The banker still can’t explain it no other than to tell me to call the number and asked for the fraud department and someone should be able to tell me what is going on. Also, that my money in my current checking and saving accounts should be returned to me within 15 days. Okay, so I call still no answer as to why this has happened. “No other than violation of SunTrust rules and regulations and you should be receiving a check from your accounts.” Well finally, I did receive another letter on June 15, 2016 dated June 10, 2016. This time it did refer to my current accounts; stating my accounts were closed due to violation of SunTrust rules and regulations.
I don’t know what violation they are referring to no other than trying to tie this with my old account and still same thing. I should receive my money from my accounts within 15 days. Well, today is the 25th of June 2016 and I still had not received my money back that now has been on hold for month. It does not make sense for this bank to tie up people money like this. When the consumers owe the bank, they give you so many days before they take on extra fees. This bank does not bother to contact the consumer if something is wrong. It just so happened I stayed on top of my accounts because of the alerts I setup and when I noticed something was wrong I notified the bank.

My husband went to a local Suntrust to get funds from a business line of credit. He was there for 45 minutes, and left without anything because they had NO idea on how to do it. He'll go to the main branch, we'll see if they know what they're doing! This is their problem, they need to train their staff in aspects of performing all banking needs for both personal and business. But it seems that the main goal to them, is cross selling other products. They can't keep their help, because when they train them, they really don't mention the "selling", so after several months they quit.
I can also say from a personal experience, that it isn't any better. I have gone to the main branch and stood in line with several people in front of me, and only "ONE" teller working. At that point, I will go and use the ATM, and I have seen people leave, and/or make a comment about how bad this bank is. When I have more time, I will change banks....

I am going through a fraud case with this bank due to a check that was deposited into my account via mobile deposit from another phone. When I first saw this deposit of $991.89, I knew that it was error and did not touch the money thinking this was the bank's fault. I figured like any other bank that they would put the deposit on hold and then notify me of their error. Well, guess what... They froze my entire account and I cannot touch any of the funds that are rightfully mine. I have called I don't know how many different people in the fraud department with getting a different answer each day. I went into the bank itself and spoke with the branch manager which also said there was nothing that could be done and that I would just have to wait out the process.
Now once the case is resolved they keep telling me that they will then cut me a check of what is due to me if any and that will take another 7 to 10 business days on top of the 7 to 10 business days for the case to be closed. Now any person with a brain can see that the phone number is not mine and that I did not have anything to do with this. They are making me feel like I am the criminal. Funny thing is that if I was a person that would do wrong, wouldn't I when I first noticed the deposit, run and take the full amount plus the money that was mine originally? Now because of this bank I getting bills canceling me and if I don't pay my rent I will be getting evicted. All I am asking for is my funds that belong to me. Nothing else.

SunTrust cashed a bunch of counterfeit checks on my account. An account that, I should mention, has never had ANY CHECKS ordered on it EVER! The checks they cashed looked like they were made from a home inkjet printer, with a PO Box for the bank address and THEY WERE SIGNED "TRUMP". All of this and into the second week of their "investigation" they are still holding all of my money in the account hostage and tacking on overdraft fees as they go.
It would take any sane person two seconds to see that they were fake checks that they never should have allowed through. But they have to take weeks to research their own stupidity. SunTrust is just another big bank that operates more like a machine that grinds its customers in its gears to squeeze out fees and gain interest on held money, rather than treat them with care and common sense. I not only would not recommend SunTrust, I actively advise anyone I know to avoid dealing with them.

They were all incredibly rude and condescending. This overdraft error has occurred before and I didn't have a problem getting them to fix it. They also deduct PENDING transactions against your balance so that the funds aren't available for the transactions that are being posted and then when the pending transaction does post they will charge you $36 overdraft if your account balance isn't positive when it posts. I cannot comprehend HOW, if they are reserving these funds for a transaction, HOW IN THE WORLD they could tell me there wasn't enough money in my account to pay it when it posts. I do not like the overdraft fees, then you can't get the protection if your credit is not good. I was charged an additional extended overdraft fee after I called and them and was assured that would not happen. I could not take care of the matter earlier because my Disability Check was not deposited until the 1st and the only reason it got there then is because the 3rd falls on a Sunday this Month. Normally my check is deposited on the 3rd of each month. I called and made the Bank aware of this. Told by a Manager that they could not stop overdraft fees.
So since I was past the 5 days that happened so if my check was not there until Monday April 4 I would have been charged additional overdraft fees - that is not fair to anyone. Nobody just has money to give away or thrown away so the Bank took medication payments, and doctor's visits because I do not have Medical Insurance because I do not have enough income and only get $16.00 in Food Stamps. So maybe no one in the Banking Institutions are concerned about that - only how they get paid. Then you have Customers that been with you 20 and some 48 years and they are no longer pleased with your Services. I think you need to re-evaluate your Services and training of Staff so they will all be on the same page. They said they could only close out a trust account by writing a certified check for the balance payable to the trust. They would not cash the check they made out for me and said I would have to open another "trust" account, deposit the check in that account, then draw the money out. So I asked the bank manager to do that for me, that is open the type of trust account however they felt it should be done, and then let me deposit the check and then I would draw out the money.
The manager told me she wouldn't do that and I had to open a new trust account at a different bank. They seemed to be trying to make it difficult for me; it appeared intentional. I got my account with Suntrust because my job requires a direct deposit. From that very day my entire life has been downhill. The first obstacle with Suntrust was one day while school shopping for my kids. I swiped my card one time at Burlington coat factory. When I got home and checked my balance I had only $76 dollars and some change left. I knew I should've had more because I had just got to paid that day. So I did a dispute and Suntrust refund the money a month later. I thought maybe that would be the last time that this would happen. They canceled my card and sent me a brand new card in the mail. Next thing I know, one day as I'm checking my account balance, I notice that my account has been withdrawn for $150 for a commuter train in California. I call Suntrust fraud center and they tell me that they cannot return the money, and that I must contact the commuter train company. The only way I could contact this company was by email.
There was no phone number or even a business address for the company. I emailed the company immediately. I didn't get reimbursed by that company until 2 months later. Afterwards I called Suntrust for a new debit card. Incident number 3: I paid my car note with a ACH debit online. My car note was $623. My check was $1500. The next morning I get up to notice that $1246 had been withdrawn from my account. The rest of the money that was supposed to have been left was for my rent and utilities or etc. I called Suntrust and they told me that they could not return the money that was withdrawn twice and they had me to call another number. I call this number that they give me and they give me another number. The person who answered referred me to a manager who stated she could return the money but it would be in 7-10 business days before my account would be credited.
Unfortunately this put me behind on my rent and winded up costing me $75 in late fees. Not to mention, to make a long story short, I have never authorized overdraft coverage and Suntrust had my account with a recovery company right now with a balance owed of $700.32, that I've opted to pay $188.00 monthly or they've threatened me to turn my account over to a 3rd party collected and ChexSystems.

I requested a number of years ago that my checking/savings acct. have overdraft protection and it clearly states online on my acct summary that I do have this service on my acct. Despite this, my auto payment from my Suntrust checking account to my Suntrust mortgage was NOT paid and not only did I incur an NSF charge, which is to be expected, but my mortgage account was charged the very same fee; That's right, same bank, *two* NSF charges. BTW, the payment was deposited a day late - which is what tripped the NSF. I have yet to receive a satisfactory response to my email inquiry about the double charge and unfulfilled overdraft protection.
In addition, while I deposited more than enough to cover all charges, Suntrust auto withdraws only the standard mortgage payment but not the NSF charge?!I Have another mortgage that auto pays from my other bank account and whenever I add add'l principal, the bank has no problem withdrawing the different amount the following month - so why can't Suntrust from their own bank acct?? Will they charge me a late fee on the late fee even though my bank account has 10x the amount to cover?? - Your guess is as good as mine - It's very disappointing for an old FL bank to have such crummy customer policies. I mean, we're dealing with $23. - take the ** out of my acct. for goodness sake! Does Suntrust really need to churn that kind of fee?
In addition, despite my excellent credit record, the bank is not interested in a loan modification to lower the interest rate for a shorter term. Interestingly, the loan officer that I spoke with found it worthy, not to check my credit but rather instead to display my account on her desktop screen right at the point where some years ago my account was overdrawn. This earlier incident was what prompted me to request overdraft protection. I have overdraft credit line on all my other bank/credit union & brokerage accounts and only Suntrust employees had difficulty understanding and distinguishing a credit line overdraft protection from a credit bank card.
The final straw was when I attempted to exchange some cash for foreign bills for a trip overseas. I of course had cash from my main bank account (not Suntrust for sure - I keep only enough each month to cover the monthly mortgage auto payment at this bank of horrors!?) but it took two tellers almost 10 minutes to try and figure out how to do the transaction AND despite being a customer, they wanted me to pay a fee and wait 2 days!! AND they told me that I had no say in which denominations I would get?!
I left before the two tellers could figure out how to handle foreign exchange transactions and took my business down the street to WF bank. There, I was treated to true first class customer service and within the hour, not only did I have a new bank account in order to be eligible for fee-free foreign exchange benefit. I also walked out with all the foreign bills I needed - in the denominations I desired along with a bank card, AND information on the latest mortgage mod rates.
I've returned from a great trip abroad, with a thank you gift for my new banker and a warning to Suntrust that they will be needing new jobs soon if they don't start treating customers better with better trained employees and customer friendly policies. In the meantime, adios and good riddance to wasted money; the fraction of a discount I get off the mortgage using the Suntrust acct. is less than the churned fees Suntrust cooks up and certainly not worth the headache and time it takes to correct them.

I used my debit card from my business on Monday. Picked up items all over and swiped it a total of 8 times. Tuesday I used it again 2 more times. Wednesday morning I viewed my account and it was negative. It seems that 2 checks that I were NSF in the past and were paid ended up being deposited and Suntrust cashed them sending my account in negative. (The checks are stamped NSF and they are 2 months old.) This also caused 13 overdraft fees totaling $494.
I called Suntrust and they stated that the largest check is cashed first. OK. The largest was $615. Next was $514. I had $1,280 in the bank. Both checks total $1,129? My debits were about $600 prior to Wednesday. So I should have had $680 balance. Now, the problem is these 2 checks plus all the debits = 13 overdrafts?? How is this possible? I called Suntrust and even if the largest check deposited first, I still would only have had 1 overdraft for the $514 check! Absolutely horrible bank. This is not the first time this has happened but it is the last!

Been a customer for 26 years. As a private consumer not bad, but very expensive and antiquated. A business customer for 16 years, and it's been a roller coaster. Their merchant services are very expensive, tiered pricing, and cost wise they make it almost impossible to transition to another merchant service. They want $700 to make my credit card machine security compliant. Suntrust will NOT contact you in the event of fraudulent use of your business account or your business debit card. They still adhere to "bankers hours" and will close the door in your face 15 minutes before closing. Their employees are poorly compensated, and they will tell you, and they provide minimal security for their customers and employees. This is a cheap, poorly run bank, and very hard and expensive to transition out of. A shoe box would be a better place for your money.

On 12/5/2015, I prepared my SECOND follow up package of documents regarding that SunTrust bank had erroneously classified (to all 3 credit reporting agencies Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) that one of my accounts had been included in bankruptcy. I sent ALL documents clearly showing that in fact that account was NEVER included in bankruptcy.
On or around 12/16/2015, I received a phone message to call Ms. ** office. I promptly did. She herself answered the phone. When I announced who I was, returning her call, she said she had not called me but someone in her office must have. She then asked what the call was in reference to. I proceeded to tell it was in reference to my package regarding my account included in bankruptcy. I then asked her if the mortgage department and the line of credit department worked for the same bank SunTrust. She said yes, so then I asked why do they operate under different policies? I told her that the mortgage department had erroneously classified (to all 3 credit reporting agencies Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) that my mortgage accounts had been included in bankruptcy.
They realized the error and corrected it immediately. That was 10/15/2015. My first letter of complaint. She said she didn't know and would check into it and get back to me. Today in February 1st and still have heard nothing from her. I was in management for many years in a research and development division of a large corporation. If we ever let an issue requiring follow up go unanswered like this, we would have been severely reprimanded or in certain cases dismissed.

To be fair, I've banked with Suntrust for over a decade and never really had any issues until the past few months. In December, I went through a drive thru one morning with only my debit card with me, and my card was declined, so I had to go home, get cash, and return to get my order. I called Suntrust to discover that my account had been put on Hold for security purposes and that I would need to call the Fraud Department to verify recent purchases. I called and they verified two small purchases I'd made (both under $20), asked me some personal identification questions, then released the Hold. It would have been nice to be warned that my account was placed on Hold and even nicer for it to never have happened since there was no reason for it.
So that was strike 1, and a big enough one that I decided to set up a new checking account with a different bank. A few weeks later, I used online banking to transfer a decent chunk of my money to my new bank account and had no problems. About three weeks later, I transferred the same amount to my new bank account. A couple days later, I went to log in to my Suntrust account to check the status of the transfer, and I had been locked out of my account. So, I had to contact Suntrust, go through the identification questions process, and get my account unlocked. I was told that the transfer was placed on hold because it was suspicious. So, I had to go through more questioning, then was told the hold on the transfer was removed.
A few days later, I saw that the amount for the transfer had been deducted from my Suntrust account. After 8 days and no sight of the funds in my new account that they should have been transferred to, I spent 2 hours (and at least $15 with phone calls because I'm out of the country) contacting Suntrust representatives through online chat and phone calls, and was told that the transfer had been placed on hold. I needed access to my funds immediately, so I asked them to cancel the transfer and return the funds to my Suntrust account. Eventually, they told me that they were able to cancel the transfer and that the funds would be returned to my account in 3 days.
My (biggest) problem with this is that I've not had access to MY MONEY for 8 days already, and it will be another 3 days until I do. They told me that the transfer was stopped before it was sent, so wouldn't that mean that Suntrust still has the money? My money. And they can't return my money to me for 3 days. Meanwhile, I'm in a foreign country. I just moved to two weeks ago and am supposed to be signing a lease on an apartment in 12 hours... And paying a deposit. Because of Suntrust, I don't even have money for food for more than maybe a couple of days. Please do me a personal favor and do not bank with Suntrust.

Three fourths of my savings has been stolen by a security breach of my information on my SunTrust money mkt. What is so frustrating is that the bank wants me to go to a very busy bank in a Walmart 25 minutes away instead of one that is five minutes from me. Very seldom can I find answers I need on the phone at either of the two branches or not that day. That slows me down and stresses me, a 71-year old, and I really do wonder if Suntrust will do their best to see that I am reimbursed for most of my $36,000 at least for the great amount that was taken over the past 60 days and maybe all of it.
I think that instead of just clicking something on the computer and transferring money from checking to money mkt., someone should be assigned to notice unusual patterns, such as excessive huge withdrawals on someone's account who never debits it, on my and other people's accounts and contact the account holder, not wait until their account is nearly depleted.
No one ever contacted me. I noticed too late. I was very stressed and busy in Nov-Dec and only checked the asset totals on each account and on the first few weeks, it was not such a big difference than what it should have been. Most of the money was removed in Dec., but that is reflected on the early January statement which I did not receive until Jan. 15 and I did report it that night to the fraud dept. at the 1-800 number.
Suntrust sure had time on three occasions in the past six months to contact me by phone and other times in the mail with offers for their credit card and a home equity loan, both of which I declined several times in the past few months and years, but no one there could not be bothered with something so serious like fraudulent looking debits over the past 30 days on my statement and lesser ones over the previous statement period were very unusual for someone, me, who only had credited her account each month for the past several years.
Also, they posted excessive withdrawal fees on the account. Still no one at Suntrust noticed or cared. Perhaps the fraudulent electronic debits were committed by a Suntrust employee. To my knowledge only Suntrust and I had my account number and other ID info. Suntrust has only paid me three or four dollars a year in interest on these two accounts combined and since 09, and I have banked with Suntrust since 2001. So my money was benefiting them by making their bank more solid, but they apparently see little value of watching these accounts or preserving them.
I also have a Suntrust Mortgage, so they have made all kinds of money on me, and now they allowed someone to rob me of 3/4's of all the money I had saved and to pay extra on my mortgage or other things I need from time to time. I am scared to death and then they are expecting to go to a bank across town, 25 minutes away, to complete this process and so far that branch acts as though they know nothing ahead of time until I arrive and then usually it something that I am supposed to have done which they did not bother to tell me the first time.
The financial advisor, not a branch manager who only answers his questions, told me it was better since I had started the process with them to stick with them. I am sorry I listened to him, and I will try to get in touch again tomorrow with the area branch manager who did not bother to return my call today and also, I will call the fraud dept. at the 1-800 number again. Actually I started the process with the 1-800 -SunTrust (not part of the number) and got a claim number and gave it to the branch the day after which was Jan. 16, 2016. It would seem that all branches should be made aware and told to watch for other similar breaches, but they were not informed when I spoke to two of them.

I called the bank and they stated that my account was being closed and could not give me a reason why. They stated any funds deposited would be mailed to me. I only gave it a one star because I had to give it something to rate it. Stay as far from this bank as possible. I opened my account, I put $200 into the account, and somehow it became $.76. Only 76 cent overdrawn and I was charged $36 overdraft. When I called I was told that I had to get the balance paid within 5 days of the overdraft and they were supposed to notify me of the overdraft so I could pay it before they charged me for overdraft.
Then I got another letter from them. I hadn't been warned even when I was told about the original overdraft that if that wasn't paid within 5 days, they keep charging your account every 5 days. I am disabled and get paid once monthly, and have a difficult time with transportation. And by the time I get paid again the way they are going, I will owe them several hundred dollars or more since I am already overdrawn now over $76 for a 76 cent problem that they could at least have tried to notify me of. If you are looking for a bank stay away from SunTrust. They are nothing but trouble. Oh and let me not forget the best part, they will not allow the account to be closed until the account is brought to a 0 balance and left that way for 35 days. Where do these people get off?

I am beyond frustrated this evening. I get a letter in the mail about insufficient funds and overdrafts fees on my account. I knew this was BEYOND ridiculous. The notice I received in the mail said my account was negative $98 and some change. When I ACTUALLY logged into my account, my account was at a negative $210 and some change. I found this to be 10X BEYOND RIDICULOUS, especially when I just received a notice today dated for December 28 of an overdraft of $98 and 5 days later it's at negative $210 and I haven't made any transactions!
I called Customer Service and one thing I HATE is when customer service representatives try to imply that you do not know how to manage your money, even though you've done it on a daily basis for as long as you been receiving income. I could go hours going into detail about this Customer Service experience I had today but I rather cut it short.
Long story short the Customer Service Rep. informed me that the transactions go into pending once the transactions is made up until the "merchant" takes the money out. What I explained to this Customer Service Rep. was that I deal with the same merchants daily and when I make a transaction, the money ALWAYS comes right out my account when I make transaction so that I can keep up with my available balances right then and there. The reason that I have the sun trust online and mobile app is because I like to keep up with and track my money every transaction.
When I make a purchase, the money will automatically come out, subtract and decrease my available balance which allows me to see what I have left to use in my account. What the Customer Service Rep. said to me was "ma'am I understand you think you know how it works, but let me explain to you how it really works". Wth, who do she think she is speaking to, an idiot? I am far from that, I am a loyal customer who tracks and keeps up with my transactions made between the merchant and myself on a DAILY basis. I told her "since I've been a customer with Suntrust, I've faithfully used the best of Suntrust mobile and online banking, I can only go off of what is shown on my account not what isn't explained or shown to me." She then tells me, "well ma'am even though the transaction is in pending and the money was taken out right then and there, you still have to wait for the merchant to take the money out before the transaction post." Huh?? (Tilts head).
I then asked "OK, so can you explain to me why the heck the money comes out right then and there, but the transaction is in pending and I still have to wait for the merchant to take their money out? If the merchant didn't take the money out then who took the money out in order for the money to be taken out at the time of the transaction and decrease my available balance?" She then hits me with the gunshot to the chest, she tells me (trying to butter it up), "Well ma'am, what happens is SUN TRUST holds on to the money so that when the merchant takes the money out, it'll be there." What! What does Suntrust have to take the money out of my account for if my account is with Suntrust. So here she's telling me that who I pay the transaction to aren't the ones who is taking the money right out my account, they are.
Smh, what kind of foolishness. So what's the point? Why not leave the money there, keep the transaction in pending and keep my available balance the same so that I can tell that the money was not taking out my account and I can manage my money more. I put my money in the bank to control it in a safer way BY ME not by them. To me this was very deceiving and not an act of loyalty and honesty to the customer. I then asked her, where did the fees come from? If the money was held by them for the merchant to take, I still shouldn't be in the negatives because my account was positive during these transactions.
Worse part about this whole thing, she couldn't even tell me where the fees came from! Smh, think I won't take this further? Absolutely wrong, I am taking this as far as it can go. Not for the money but because this particular action from Suntrust is un loyal, deceiving and dishonest and we (as customers) don't deserve it, especially since we trust them to keep our money safe and away from fraud and they're the ones tampering and unruly handling our money. Suntrust is THE worse bank and I will be closing my account with them THIS WEEK!

We called the 1-877-596-5407 to dispute the charge and the report to the credit bureaus, and it was denied in a letter from SunTrust stating that they research it and that it was being reported correctly, but if we had any supporting documents that we could send them in, and they would look at them.
I have phone records showing that my mother called on 3/23/15, but when I spoke to their credit dispute people they say they have no record of the call and that there was no need to send in the phone records to prove it, even though in their denial letter that is exactly what it said to do. First of all I have had many issues with the company. I asked to not have overdraft protection and yet they ignored me. I have paid who knows how much in overdraft protection and one time paid $120 in overdraft protection on a $40 ticket. I don't see how that is legal. But 6 weeks ago I noticed a charge for $80.41 on my card. I knew what it was for but did not authorize it. It was for a dating site and last year I did authorize my card to be used for special enhancements to my account. But shortly after that I met my boyfriend and closed the account. POF never contacted me to let me know they were charging anything.
When I noticed this I called customer service and reported the item. I went into my branch office in Raleigh and filled out the paperwork and had them to fax it over. I was told it would be no more than 30 days before I received my money back. I asked why it was taking so long since in the past it was put back on my account with the understanding that if it was found I did authorize the charge or didn't provide them with the information then it would be taken back out of my account. Again I was told it was a reoccurring charge since I authorized it last year. That is like saying well because you went to Walmart last year and brought a TV on your debit card on Black Friday, then they were allowed to charge it again. Two week later I received another letter which basically asked the same information as before and I filled it out again and took it to the branch office and had it faxed.
I am off work today and the money has still not been put back on my account so I called to find out. I called their fraud unit which I guess is in India. At first I was told well I never sent back the second letter. I told them it was faxed from my branch office and I had the time and date and it was received. Then it was, "Ohhh. OK...I see. It just arrived to this office today." Really?? On the same day I happen to call, I am sure. So I asked, "What exactly has been done with investigating my account?" Had they bothered to call the 800 number listed to verify indeed that it was always busy or had they bothered to send an email which gets you a general reply that they can no longer receive emails which should show anyone that there is something up when you have no means to get in touch with a company.
The girl hemmed and hawed around and "I know how you feel," but nothing to tell me what they have done to investigate this. I doubt anything had been done and now it is up to 60 days to get my money back, while they sit on their butts doing nothing...I mean investigating my claim. The new and improved page obviously was laid out by someone with ZERO bookkeeping experience. They put one account in front of you, and all the others crammed onto the left side. They have a 2 inch wide orange stripe across the page using up valuable room. It serves no purpose. To access the other accounts you have to push buttons, get rid of the one showing details, in order to see what's going on in your other accounts. This was done by someone trying to justify their job. I plan to leave them as soon as I get my loans paid off. I have been banking with them since they came to town. I typed an email to them, complaining, and it did absolutely no good. I feel like ignorance is in charge of that bank.

I commenced an account in May of 2014 solely because ST was the only bank left offering a debit card for air miles (Delta). I am in WA State, and the closest branches were in Tennessee, so it was a bit of an inconvenience, but due to a bank forced bankruptcy in 2008, I can't get rewards cards for several more years. In July of this year, they made the Delta Skymiles debit card practically useless by capping air miles at 2000 per month (I had built over 150K air miles in about a year), so I called to cancel my accounts.
They sent a check for over $3K to close my savings account out, and there was nothing in checking, so I figured it was also closed. Inadvertently, someone ran a credit before things actually closed out, so I had a $9.75 credit back in checking. Instead of mailing a check for the balance to close the account, they charged a $12 monthly fee because my balance had dropped below $3000. I called and demanded they close the account and send the money. After an hour I said "keep the money but close the account anyway." They said I hadn't asked for that account to be closed (notice how all those recorded phone calls can never be retrieved when requested something?). After 2 hours on the phone where they said they couldn't close the account, I was so livid I just told them to do whatever they were going to do, and hung up.
Here's what they will do. They will continue to fine me. They will report it to the credit reporting agencies. They will run up a $3000 bill based on the supposed few dollars owed. Then they will write it off their taxes. This whole thing is a scam. The whole credit reporting thing is a fraud. The banks yanked my 20 years of perfectly paid credit cards in 2008, and crashed my biz, forced me into bankruptcy, and I am still paying for it (not able to get a credit card), even though it was a bank induced panic that caused the whole 2008 fiasco. Take away? I don't trust any bank.
We have recovered our business finally, but I make sure I have cash to cover everything, and my daughter is 21 now, so she let's me use her good name to build air miles and hotel points, and I give her 10% of whatever I get. Still, not one of these major banks is too big to fail. Every one of them should fail, and all the high ranking officers homes in the Hamptons should be confiscated, and they should spend the rest of their lives behind bars.

The bank let someone cash a $1200 check. I have been trying to get where it was cashed for the police and get my money back. But this bank has decided to keep my money. Grace from the fraud department said it was my check, I may not get my money back. But it was stolen out of the post office box. Now I am fighting with them twice a day and they still refuse to give me back my money. Why put it in the bank if it isn't safe. Any other banks put it back in your account that's why your accounts are insured but Suntrust will not give it back and it was their mistake for not checking the signature card or calling me and checking. There was also an alert on my account because this person has done it before. Please do not bank with them or take your money out because it is not safe. They won't even call you back.

I received a commercial loan from Suntrust to refi the previous loan I had on my place of business in 2007. I was late occasionally with the payment, during months when my income ebbed (5 times in 7 years), but NEVER over 30 days late. 3 of those late payments happened when I had breast cancer and wasn't working many hours, but still never over 30 days. I had over $100,000 in equity, and they wouldn't talk to me about refinancing when interest rates dipped, so that I wouldn't ever have to be late again. My credit score was, and still is, about 725.
In the Spring of 2014, a nasty banker called me to say he was going to "call in the loan." I consulted an attorney who assured me that bankers can definitely do that whenever they want. I believe I was harassed by this man who called often and made threats. He had a nasty tone of voice, and called once saying I hadn't paid the taxes on the building, and he definitely was going to foreclose. I had indeed paid the taxes, several months earlier. That is when I sought an attorney's advice. I sold the building to avoid losing my equity and being foreclosed on by that scumbag. My attorney guessed he wanted to foreclose because my neighborhood was gentrifying, and the value of the building had increased dramatically in the few months before he started harassing me. Avoid UnTrust at all costs. In fact, avoid banks if you can. A friend of mine very easily got a loan from Lending Club online. Next time I need one, that's where I'm going.

So I looked the next day on mobile banking if it did and it wouldn't let me log in. My account types were not supported with mobile banking. How come? Don't know. I've had an checking and savings account with Suntrust for over 5 years, last week I was checking my balances and realized they had taken $650.66 from my savings account. When I called customer service, I was given the runaround, transferred from dept to dept for over 2 hours. Finally I was told they had no idea, that I had to go to my local branch. The branch that I usually dealt with is now closed so I went to the North Ft. Myers, FL branch on US-41 & Pine Island Road, there I met with a "personal banker": Nancy **. She was unfriendly, uninviting and VERY unhelpful who had a single sheet of paper on her desk titled "How to deal with customers".
I told her my story and she did the exact same thing, called customer service and got no answers, so I was sent to the general manager. (Not sure WHAT she does there, but she doesn't know what customer service is and doesn't follow the single sheet on her desk. She was NOT helpful or even attempt to appear to care.) Finally met with general manager Edgar **, who did the EXACT SAME THING - called customer service… Apparently, they do not need to actually listen to their clients. He did not seem to want to help or to care much either as there was a line of people and he just wanted to get through each person asap.
The issue came down to a fraudulent claim I filed in November 2012, but they can not do anything for me since their systems only go back to December 2012. I had closed an account, after my checkbook was stolen, an investigation was done. I received some money back & opened a new account - not owing any money and closed the original account to block any more charges. The first week of December 2012 shows 3 days of checks being written that all bounced. It should have all been resolved and done there but… Almost 3 years later, they decided to take the money - almost $150, add on over $500 in overdraft fees and with no notice remove it from my savings account.
In 3 years I have NEVER received any statement or letter regarding a balance owed. I have direct deposit and have had adequate funds in my account the whole time, but they just decided now they have the right to take the money and would not provide me with any paperwork, correspondence, anything. When I asked the gm if they had anything to show why the funds were being removed, he said I needed to prove that they shouldn't, I was probably lying and then I asked to withdraw all my money and asked for his supervisor's name. He refused to allow me to withdraw my money, refused to give me his supervisor's name and told me to get out of his office or he would call the police and have me arrested for trespassing.
I am 6 months pregnant with severe complications, I was so upset, I ended up in the hospital. Bottom line is they took almost a $1k from my savings for my baby (I'm a single mom) and said they do not have to explain or show any reason why, that it MUST BE MY FAULT. I am taking this higher in chain of command as I feel I have been robbed. They said if I found my documents form 2012, they'd consider working with me but they don't need to find any of theirs. I was treated like a criminal and so insulted.
In 3 years, something could have been worked out, but I had zero notice about this situation. Just one day they decide to take my money without any back-up or explanation except their records don't reach back that far. If they don't then how can they say with certainty that I owe them money. I even named the manager of my original branch, but they would not look further into it or contact him. Be careful, if they can just steal someone's money for no reason, then treat them as if they are the thief. THIS IS NOT A FAIR/FRIENDLY OR ETHICAL BANK.

Suntrust bank is one of the worst banks my husband and myself have ever dealt with. We have been banking with them for the past 3 years or so. We have had no problems up until the new online banking system went into effect. Within the last week, we have been charged overdraft fees for things that should have never been overdraft. When we purchased items, it was pending for 2 to 3 days and then when it finally posted we were charged because we didn't have the amount in our account, but it was still pending and then when my husband's check went into the account, it put us at a positive balance. How can you have something pend for a few days then the day money went into the account, it was posted you charge an overdraft fee for the day that it happened instead of charging the overdraft the following day?
My husband spoke with people in the bank and on the phone at a GA main office and they were telling him that a charge that was done 3 days after the pending charges had been overdrafted 3 days earlier. They also said that they couldn't help when the company we bought from takes their money out and they also couldn't explain why there were pending charges and then posted 3 days later. Their computer systems are set up different then the online banking which is screwed up. And we had proof that they screwed up because I printed out the transaction history.
Still no sorry or this is what we can do for you. Then I tried to close the account because we went to a different bank and opened an account and they said they couldn't because the negative balance. The lady I spoke with did not understand the anything. It was she was just born yesterday. Like any other bank, they have a cut-off limit of overdrafts because they just let items keep coming through and now we are over $650 in the whole with them. We are not very happy with Suntrust. They screwed up and can't explain why or how. They don't want to admit to the mistake.

I filed a claim and faxed back paperwork as I was told to do, my claim was denied because I could PROVE I didn't owe the company that charged me. I couldn't prove it because I had never even used the company. The second time I am currently dealing with. My card has been blocked twice, once because I forgot to call and tell them that I was traveling out of state and once because I made two online payments (I was fine with that). I called after the 2 online payments to have my card unblocked which then foreign outsourced customer service agent needed my full card number for. The next day I checked my online banking to find that over $1,500 in charges had been made to online gaming, website builders and 18 others including $89 worth of adult entertainment.
I found out from one company (I called all of them that I could find contact information for) that they had created an email address using my name and that the IP address used was in Turkey. Mind you I live in the United States and have never traveled outside the US. They allowed every single one of those charges to go through. The ONLY person I had given my card number to was the foreign customer service agent. I was on the phone for 2 hours arguing that I did NOT allow anyone to use my card.
Once again I'm waiting on an email to print and fax back to them and will fight to the end to not pay these charges. They refused to take 2 off because I had used the company that charged before. Even though it had Turkey following the company name. The idiot I talked with could barely read the screen in front of him and absolutely couldn't do anymore than that. I recently just finished dealing with a fiasco with Suntrust Bank. This is a result of their new Wealth Management Program. Suntrust is contacting wealthy clients in order to get them to purchase financial products from them such as annuities, insurance and financial planning. The trouble started this past January with frequent phone calls from Suntrust - at least one each weekday. I talked to a guy from the downtown branch in Washington DC and he encouraged me to put all of my investments under one roof - said it would be better as my accounts would all be in one place. I told him I was happy with the financial advisers I had. Fast forward 6 months I finally agreed to meet with two people from the local branch near my home. They wanted me to sell 500K of equities then transfer the money to Suntrust to finance an annuity as well as change my life insurance.
After meeting for lunch several times I agreed then changed my mind. My financial advisors with the two firms outside Suntrust told me I would have a huge capital gains tax liability as well as limited income with the annuity. I rescinded the transaction making the bank quite angry. Personally I feel it is their fault. Phone calls every weekday for 6 months plus the phone number on my caller ID said department of justice. Were these people cops? I only agreed to meet with them to end the phone calls. In other words to get them off my back. I will not mention names of individual people at the bank but Suntrust is no longer the friendly bank I used to know. High sales pressure, daily phone calls and a new staff replaced the more friendly staff of previous years.
Obviously financial advisors want your business but 6 months of constant phone calling is rude even if the financial advisors at Suntrust know what they are doing. The two guys at Suntrust had about 2 years experience each according to Broker Check. The financial advisors I have right now each have 20 years experience even though their fees may be higher. I think the annuity that they wanted me to buy had a built-in fee.
Even if their products are good, Suntrust should leave their customers alone. All I want to do is use Suntrust for basic banking and checking needs. Unfortunately if your balance goes over 100K they are likely to call you. I have read reviews of other bank and it appears that no one likes their bank. Good luck in finding a good bank as it appears that all banks are likely to pitch annuities, insurance and financial planning. The products may be good or bad but I just do not want them. This problem with Suntrust is too bad as they have a convenient location.

I have been a banking customer for over 9 years. My husband and I bought a car a couple of years ago and the car loan was assigned to Suntrust. My husband always made the payments (from his account - PNC Bank) and was always on time. Then he asked me to make the payment which made sense because the loan was linked to my checking account and it was very easy to make a payment. Apparently in the transition I got off pace by one month and did not know this for the past 7 months. I did not know this because the online site for my account did not display that I was late. When I received a call this weekend that I was late, I told them I am paying online and the online site shows that I am current.
I was told that the online site does not have the ability to tell you if you are behind only to convey your payment date and the current payment amount (which says minimum payment - you would think if you were behind this would show that, but it does not). By the way, it took talking to 7 suntrust people before I got that answer. I would never have gone 7 months paying one payment behind if the online site included the past due amount. Of the seven people at Suntrust, most were nice and did agree with me that the online site show past due amounts, but could not correct for the interest payments it cost me. However, those that were nice were very rude.
My point to them is that I am an electronic customer and I expect the information I receive from them to be accurate. If I had made the one missed payment electronically it would have processed as an early payment and would have changed the due date to the following month - then I would have been late again. I had to process the payment manually with a paper check. Still not sure when it posts if my online account will be accurate.

On 6/25/15, I received an email from Suntrust congratulating me for my deposit on that date and for me to make another deposit. I then set-up my paycheck to automatically be deposited to Suntrust on 6/26/15. I called Suntrust on 6/29/15 because I never received any debit cards or checks in the mail. The only thing that I did receive was notification that they set-up my account with an overdraft protection option. However, I never received any information pertaining to my account. This prompted me to call the Cust. Service on 6/29/15. The c/s rep. informed me that the account appeared to be closed. However, they had to put me on hold to get further clarification.
Upon reviewing my account further, they concluded that the account was under investigation and that it was on a debit hold. Which means that I do not have access to the account. Considering the fact that I was unable to use the account, they allowed me to deposit money but I could not access the account? I then asked for the supervisor because it just did not make sense. The supervisor came to the phone (failed to write down her name) she informed me that the account was on hold and that SunTrust reserves the right to place an account on hold at anytime. He also gave me the 800# to the consumer reporting agency that they use and suggested that I call to get the details. He told me that most of the time this is due to possible fraud. I called the 800# as suggested and I spoke with a Becky. Becky informed me that they could not find anything that was tied to my SSN and my spouse also called and they told him the same thing. I decided to wait for a couple of more days because I was advised that the investigation should be completed within a couple of days. I called on 7/1/15 to get an update. The C/S rep. then advised me that all that I had to do was to go my local branch with my husband and provide ID verification.
She further stated that the reason why the account was on hold was due to the fact they could not do a ID verification online but going to the branch would alleviate the issue. My husband and I went to St. Petersburg Branch and spoke with, branch manager. She also called the 800 number but was advised that they are investigating my account and that I will not have access to my money until after they complete the investigation. I explained that this is my paycheck and that I needed to get my money ASAP. After I insisted on speaking with someone else, she put me on the phone with Emma from their customer complaint department. Emma told me that the account is under investigation and that I will be receiving a letter shortly. She said that the letter would not really tell me why but it just will state that due to Federal Reserves.
I asked who else I can speak with and she then informed me that there is no one else that I can speak with and that the investigation department was also off limits to me. I asked if they knew why and she said "yes", but they will not tell me why. The only thing that she did mention was fraud. I have never been convicted of fraud, my SSN is tied to the SEC because I have my Series 6 and 26, I am an honest and law abiding citizen. This bank made me feel like a criminal and the fact that they are not offering me any timelines as to when I can get my money just infuriates me!!! They are willing to take my money but they are holding it hostage without offering me any explanation whatsoever. I am at a loss as to what to do about this. This is my paycheck and they currently have almost three thousand dollars of my money. This has caused me great hardship.

I have been banking with Suntrust since 2007. I am tired of having issues with my account! I have had it with the outrageous antics from using online banking and the mobile banking app! If you have a remaining balance then that's the amount that's in my account. Do not penalize people because the app does not display the correct remaining balance. If there is no money in the account then you can't purchase anything. Now that's just plain common sense. I was charged an overdraft fee and there was an adequate amount of money in my account to cover the transaction made. I wouldn't have made the transaction if there wasn't, that would have been dumb on my behalf.
I am a young professional who works an obscene amount of hours, and banks are closed when I leave my desk. I rely heavily on online banking and the mobile baking app. If the crap isn't working maybe a different software developer should be contacted to work this problem out. I will definitely be closing my account due to having many issues with this bank and my account. Do not mess with my money that I have worked so hard to obtain. That's money I can't get back and will never see again. Yes, I will definitely close my account because I can't trust Suntrust with my monetary profits. Their integrity is tarnished! What bank can you trust? Seems they all have skeletons!

So I call my bank and begin a three hour customer service nightmare of hang ups, blind transfers, and call backs to try and figure out why they kept declining the charge. I get a lot of "I don't knows" from people. One rep went as far to declare "no one in the company can tell me why it's not working." Eventually someone transfers me to fraud and says that I can't use the card there because "It's not a trusted retailer." I can’t believe service this bad exists. They will not provide me with documentation that even the senate has asked them to provide to me nor will they even speak to me because they hold grudges. This is one bank I would advise to AVOID! If you do not mind losing millions of dollars then go for SunTrust. Otherwise steer clear of them and go with a bank that does not "franchise" out its services to various locations (i.e.: IRA, mortgages, car loans, etc). If you do down the SunTrust road I can guarantee even your tax acct will be confused as ours was and I finally put my foot down. I may be taking them on in federal court. Anyone want to join me?

Due to a lot of slow payers my account balance got to a all time low but was still in the black. Suntrust decided it would be a good time to put a 7 day hold on a check I deposited from a regular customer to try to create a NSF situation. This morning (May 30th) funds were gone. I've been back and forth on the phone with Suntrust for nearly 3 hours and the cash deposit has mysteriously disappeared into thin air. Unfortunately, the deposit ticket was not kept as this problem has never occurred before. Any suggestions?
I called directly to branch (Burtonsville, MD) and spoke with a representative who was very rude and became very irate when I suggested that the funds may have been stolen by one of the tellers. Logically, this does not make sense. The money was there and now there's no trace of it anywhere. Sounds fishy? She refused to check each individual teller's log (5 tellers) for cash deposits made yesterday between 3 pm and 3:30 pm which I assume cannot be a lengthy process. Any suggestions on next steps???

I had the displeasure of dealing with ** for my home refinance. She did a terrible job of communicating with me. I never knew where I was during the entire process of my loan. I was not given a realistic assessment of things overall. On one particular instance she asked me for my credit card number (without detail). I assumed it was in regards to my credit check which is what we were discussing at time. Then out of the blue my $500 appraisal fee appeared on my credit card statement. We contacted our local branch about the issue and the woman we spoke with was very apologetic. She promised me I would receive a phone call from ** in regards to the matter. Of course I never did.
When my appraisal came back lower than expected, I expressed to her the issue with the comparable homes (I live in a historical district where the neighborhoods vary literally from street to street). My local banker explained this to ** and it seemed as though this happens a lot with homes in my area. I was told by ** to find other comparable homes, which I did... then nothing. SEVERAL weeks later I get an e-mail (not even a phone call) informing me that the appraisers wanted to know why their comparables were no good - even though both me and the local banker gave her a pretty clear explanation as to why.
I finally asked her to give it to me straight rather than just stringing me along, which is exactly what she was doing. That's when I was told that I would need $20k to close, knowing that the whole purpose of our refinance was to save as much money as we could because of our overall financial strain. I am not sure how much longer she would've kept things going, but I finally told her she'd wasted enough of our time. Of course she was not at all apologetic or sympathetic to our situation. Instead she proceeded to justify her position by making false statements cc-ing her superior. Fortunately, my husband and I did communicate with our local branch throughout the entire process, so we could easily prove our version of events. My assessment of the entire situation is that she said whatever needed to be said to secure me as a customer, then when it didn't work out as she anticipated, I was no longer worth her time.

Over two weeks ago, I opened a new checking account and deposited a substantial sum. At branch, I was given 3 checks, and was advised I would receive printed checks in 7-10 days. I did not try to order Suntrust credit card at the time but afterwards, tried to call branch to go ahead and order one. Here is a list of all that happened from that point forward.
1. Phone number for branch all over Google is wrong - At number given, no one answered. After much searching, found correct number but by then, decided to order the credit card online. I did reach branch manager and advised him they need to clean up Google phone listing. 2. Credit card had not arrived after 10 days. I called branch which checked it out. Advised me it had been mailed several days earlier. It arrived about 4 days later.. I activated. Tried it at 3 or 4 locations. At all but one, could not be read by merchants' equipment so I had to use different card.
3. Checks have never arrived. I called branch after 10 days and was advised to wait one or two more days. Still did not arrive, so I called back. They advised me they'd reorder checks - would not take long to arrive - just 7 to 10 days! No offer to overnight them. 4. Last Saturday, went online to report problems, There is no general consumer complaint location from which to email, so I just picked a category to send complaint. Box opens. Limits complaint/comment to 200 characters. After typing, Suntrust email server kept rejecting email instructing me I had used a symbol/character that they did not recognize. I checked and doublechecked. Had used no such character.
5. I then called Customer Service, Automated menu provides no option for complaints, or reporting credit card problem. I then called the number on bank of card to report lost or stolen card. Number transferred me to the Customer Service menu just mentioned. So there was no way to even report stolen card, assuming that was my problem. Just menus, like check account balance, check last payment made, do you want to get a loan, etc etc. 6. Went online to find email address for Suntrust corporate in Atlanta, No such address listed. 7. Finally found 1 number to an unrelated department where live person answered - he was pleasant but could not himself help. But he did say he would submit a complaint on my behalf. (Again this was Saturday, maybe Sunday, so most departments were closed.)
This tells you all you need to know about Suntrust view of consumers. If something on their end goes wrong, they set up their online website and options to make it extremely difficult if not impossible to report the problem. They don't monitor online phone numbers for branches. They don't provide for direct emails to corporate. They don't take steps to expedite sending checks where they are at fault for not sending, their credit cards obviously don't always work. If the consumer, is left without means to charge purchases, write checks indefinitely. Though I finally registered a complaint on the phone, have not heard a word from anyone. I sent letter to corporate a few days ago reciting everything above and, of course, advising it I was closing all accounts, canceling credit card, & looking elsewhere. I expect I will heard nothing in response. I finally wrote corporate in Atlanta a letter listing all above.

The mobile app is terrible. The app is supposed to update with your card transactions, to accurately reflect your account balance. This does not happen. The mobile app is a very inaccurate representation of your active balance. Charges will be rearranged days out of order, so you will be hit by many overdraft fees. Their banking security seems non-existent, as I have had several unauthorized online transactions approved by Suntrust, to foreign countries. Thousands of dollars would mysteriously appear in my account, only to disappear an hour later, along with my own money. This happened three times, and Suntrust never called nor emailed me. It has now been 2 full business days since that deposit and on the following Wednesday I still do not have the money in my account. This is quite distressful because I have rent coming up soon as well as other payments.
I'll give it another day or two and then I'm going to start making calls, but for now I'm quite dissatisfied with the whole process. The check was scanned crisply and clearly and there were seemingly no issues when I did the deposit and I received a paper slip from the machine that gave me a confirmation that the check was put into the system. Well that's all well and good but I still don't have my money. Hopefully everything gets taken care of and I get some answers on why it's taking so long but I don't think I'll ever consider using the atm for any kind of deposit again any time soon.
But other than this my experience with Suntrust has been pretty golden. They've been quite kind in answering my questions in the past and making sure that I'm taken care of. I'm hoping that this is just a slip up in the system that I won't have to deal with again after this.

A few days later, I saw that I had a negative balance on my savings account, which made zero sense, because no additional transactions had been made. All 3 reps in the branches are so polite, expressed genuine concern and gave me their "business card with direct number". 3 days no calls from anyone, left several messages, had to go back into branch several times.
Finally got the affidavit by email (had a nice message) from investigator, well gee we have your email on file, reversed monies processed pretty fast but it took 10 days to get all transferred to new acct. They won't do automatically it over phone. No One Keeps Promises. They would call me. They would transfer direct deposit and reversed stolen $$$ asap. It sat in the dead acct. Had to go to branch each time in person!
So now two months later, still a Suntrust customer with a new acct. I accept a check from an older couple for some yard sale items, checked the man's license & all. Deposited only. 4 days later, check returned closed acct. I get a balance alert that am showing $700 in my acct but resulting in no sufficient funds, huh?? Suntrust closed my account without a phone call or email!! Like I was supposed to know that would happen. Had to find out when my card was declined at a restaurant. And they are keeping that day's direct deposit. Said have to wait 5 days from last transaction posting date to get my $$ and guess what? My next week's pay is already in process to that acct. Adds another 5 days for my entire acct balance!! Trying to tell me although the bad check has been charged back with a fee, they can hold my payroll money for another 10 days!!
Contact me for that lawsuit! I have rent due in 2 days, gas, groceries and bills. Taking this travesty to the corporate office, news, and FDIC!!! ##Angryvictimduece

You cannot reach anyone at any type of management level at Suntrust Bank. ALL calls are outsourced to the Philippines...They will lie and try "bait and switch" tactics. Have your lawyer read and explain their paperwork before you sign any type of loan with Suntrust because the branch associates and managers will lie and they are not knowledgeable about rates etc... Before you deal with a bank make sure you can contact A REAL PERSON IN THE UNITED STATES.

I decided to go with Suntrust when one opened near my house. The lady behind the glass was rude when I first tried to deposit money. A month after opening my account I took most of the money out of my account. I received a letter in the mail dated a week before that they had closed my account. They took the $15 that was in that account. I had to take the time to come back and open another account and get a whole new card (what a waste). Then after 2 months of having them they took more money out of my account.
The check deposit is way slower than an average bank. It took over 3 business days for my check to show up in my account. Same with my cash. It took a day for it to show up. I just received a letter today (2/21/15) that they have taken the last of my money in the account and have once again closed my account. How stupid. If you want my business then stop taking my money and closing my accounts! Especially without my knowledge till after the fact! I hate Suntrust. I have been with 3 different banks and this one is the worst ever!!!!
