I am an ex-Sallie Mae student-loan customer whose loans have been transferred to Navient. Navient refuses to acknowledge me as their customer. I don't know if it's because I am a victim of education scam(s). I was notified by a staff member of the federal agency U.S. Dept of Education, via phone call, that I was a victim of education scam(s), after they received an alert of tampering of my student-loan file. The scam went so far as to try to block me from attending additional college courses under federal aid to obtain my master's.
Next, they discovered that my employment salary history was actually from federal grants under the classification of Title 1 funding. It was then that my employer would no longer acknowledge as an education employee of theirs. Somehow, by error they said, my position was given to someone else. [Instead of me, their bonafide staff member, who had founded the position and created the curricula for the education program to be used at the given schooling district.]
Needless to say -- let's forget about me receiving a teacher loan forgiveness of student-loan debt for years of service teaching in a bonafide Title 1 schooling district for the required length of time for loans to have been forgiven; because of no verification my education employer and former schools that I attended as a child of G&T. Now, whenever, I speak to Navient they refer to me to speak to Department of Education.

I have never had a positive experience with Navient. Here is just the most recent issue: My husband and I recently realized we were both eligible for the RePAYE program, which would decrease our payments each month significantly from what we're paying on our other income based repayment plans. When he called Navient to ask about the status of our Dep. of Education student loan. gov submissions, the lady on the phone said Navient doesn't participate in the RePAYE program! This was confusing, since, they are directly servicing our loans from the government, and we applied to the program through studentloans.gov and they HAVE to participate in the program... but this woman insisted, three times, that Navient did not participate in that program, and they were happy to just recalculate our payments on the plan we were ALREADY ON.
So we called studentloans.gov, who said that YES - NAVIENT DOES AND MUST participate in ALL of the Income Based Repayment Plans, and they had no idea why Navient would say that they didn't. WTF?! NAVIENT STRAIGHT LIED TO US...rudely, and interruptingly, might I add. We will now be calling them every day to ensure our plan-switches are processed and processed in a timely manner.

I owe $108,000 on my student loan and I have contacted Navient on many occasions since 2011 to discuss financial hardship. Twice my loan was placed in forbearance, while interested accrued. Finally today I was approved for an income-based repayment plan that reduced my payments from $608 to $277. Prior to today I was always told that I did not qualify for any other repayment plan and that a forbearance was my only option. Doing the math based upon my current income I have overpaid on my student loans around $18,000 since 2011. This company is greedy and does not have the best interest of the borrower in mind. I have borrowed from my retirement twice in pay back this loan.

Class action lawsuit was filed if you want to get onboard. They are sending me bills and already sold my debt to a third party company within two weeks. I had no idea if it was a scam because it seemed shady. Looks like it is a scam but in a gray area. Contacted me only in E-mail and now the new company is contacting me.

I signed up to received income based repayment plan. I received a letter indicating they got my application. Now I just received the new invoice, instead of $200 a month as agreed on. I am being billed $700 a month. I have worked on this loan many times since 2009 to get the income based repayment plan, I recognize I will be paying for the rest of my life, however I do not have $700 a month. I can't get anyone to help me.

I went on their website to pay in full the remaining balance on my son's student loans. There were 2 consolidation loans listed, one with a balance of $3900, and the second of $1200. I clicked to make a payment on the loan listed as, 1-01, and made the payment. I then tried to go back and make what I thought was the final payment on the loan listed as, 1-02. The system showed no balance and would let me make another payment. I called today, spoke with "John" (ha-ha), ID #**, and asked why I couldn't get the payment to come up for the other a loan. After an almost 40 minute call, I found that the payment I made 2 days ago was SPREAD OUT between the 2 loans and both still have balances due. I thought at least #1 would have been wiped out but NO.
Their website is deceiving and I feel sorry for students who are trying to get their loans paid down. I was paying almost double the required minimum but $5200 was years away from being paid off. I feel Navient's website is deliberately misleading account holders and they should be made to clean it up and make it more transparent to users. Their dealings are almost fraudulent. It should be noted that I was very hard on the service representative, and it isn't his fault, but he's forced to represent a bad manager.

I've been paying loans that were formerly under Sallie Mae since 1997. I can't put into words how much of a boat anchor they've been on my life. Yes, I finished my degrees. Yes I'm working, but have had to go through periods of unemployment and underemployment, and ended up taking the forbearances--where they stop payments but keep adding interest. I honestly believe they want you to do that as it keeps stretching out your payments. What had been $256 a month is now $440, and what should have been done literally next month now is looking to go on to 2023.
What prompts me to write is I took one last forbearance over the summer. In August I started paying again but my payment due dates were a month out. I was paying in August when it said the bill was due in late September. I assumed I'd started paying too early and in October waited and paid my bill November 1st--it wasn't due until the 22nd and I have the statements to back this up.
Things went normally until today, when I got an e-mail from them saying I was past due on my account, and when I checked it said I owed double my monthly payment. I sent e-mails and got no replies, and called; after a half hour I got through to a woman with a heavy Filipino accent who couldn't pronounce my name, and kept saying "You missed your October payment." I literally had to shout to get her to stop repeating that, and she wouldn't listen when I told her I had no payment due. I hung up after another ten minutes of trying to reach a supervisor.
I dug through Navient's website. You actually have to follow a link to the "old" Sallie Mae website to get your statements. I checked copies and everything said I wasn't behind on payments--nothing due. I finally found a "letter" which I don't recall getting but never mind, on January 14th that said "We'd found your payment date was advanced by one month in error. We fixed it. Your account is in good standing."
Ah-ha, but honestly it reads like they screwed up, and are socking me with an extra payment with no notice they were assessing it, and honestly they could have advanced my ending payment by a month rather than come at me like I was a deadbeat. So I have no case number, no person to contact, no reference, just a Filipina woman I chewed out on the phone and two replies to e-mails that said "Thanks for contacting us." It makes me wonder how legal this is. I was paying on the terms stated, and what recourse I have, since they want to limit you to a fairly useless website. And what's to stop them from deciding later on I didn't pay enough after a previous deferment and bam--more money? Avoid if you haven't taken out loans. Get out if you can.

Unable to voluntarily increase monthly amount paid without permanently restructuring loan. Ridiculous. This company has always been difficult to deal with and had poor customer service. I never mind customer service agents speaking English as a second language. I do mind all customer service being outsourced and NO common sense.

Statement is dated Jan 5. Post mark shows a date later than 1/10. They apply a late fee on 1/17. From postmark to late fee, they only provide 3 business days to pay before charging a late fee. This is an unfair set of payment terms. Student loan companies should allow people a fair amount to pay a bill, like 30 days or some other reasonable number of days. This happens every month. They charge $10 per month in late fees. They have been doing this to me for over a year.

I can't afford my monthly payments, and I have tried to get help lowering them but all they will do is put me in a forbearance or lower my payments for a year, which of course does not help, the amount I own on my school loan is crazy. I barely see a decrease on my loans since I graduated.

I have been paying my student loans for years. I pay almost double what I'm supposed to but my balance barely goes down. On some of my loans my payments actually went up even though I pay way more than I'm supposed to. I can't get an answer as to why, if I pay an extra $10 over what's due, my balance only goes down by $3. I think Navient needs to have a class action lawsuit filed for mismanaging loans.

I graduated college in 2007. My loans through Sallie Mae were transferred to Navient. I am on autopay for as long as I can remember. My payments change and are allocated any which way to want to. It is not their decision on how my money should be allocated. I also have no way of controlling this feature online. You can only make additional payments. They also lowered my monthly payments without my consent after one of 3 loans was paid off. I would have kept my monthly payments the same applying more money to the principal of the 2 remaining.
I cannot get anyone on the phone. Time and time again. I keep hoping their website changes and it doesn't. I am sick to think how much money has been misallocated to their liking to keep me as a customer longer. I am 33 and trying to have this paid. They have no right to change amounts I agreed years ago to lengthen my time of payoff and keep me longer. I'm at a loss and completely infuriated by this.

Took out a private student loan in 1993 that has since been sold to Sallie Mae and now is Navient. I have been harassed with endless calls for months. I have sent two "cease and desist" letters, both sent via certified mail, and both with signature requested. I am still getting calls constantly and now Navient has begun to contact friends and family. I am so tired of the harassment. Never has Navient been able to provide a copy of the original promissory note. Their collection practices violate the law and I am tired of it.

I open my email this morning to find that I am "late" on my payment. I am not quite sure how this could be as I pay my bill early every time. When my payments were started the first payment was due 2/1 and I made that payment in January. Fast Forward to now and I am being told that they did not receive my January payment... How can this be when you clearly received a payment in December for my loans.
Something is very wrong with this company. They are lacking transparency when it comes to how payments are applied. There is nowhere where you can see any balance going down and if you ask for a statement showing this for some reason no one understands what you are asking for. They advise you to look at your payment history which only shows your payment being received not how it is applied or that your balance has gone down. I'm so over this company and their complete disregard for doing business in a reputable manner. It makes me wish I would have never gone to school.

This company purchased my student loan which was being paid efficiently and regularly paid via the ACS website. Then when it went to Navient they split the loan into two separate loans which are impossible to pay online with one payment. When you call Navient their automated system takes roughly 15 minutes of begging to be connected to a human to get past because it cannot help me within the system. Actually it disconnected me once because it "couldn't understand me" and I had to start over. With today's technology, these things should be easy. It has worked so simply and easy since 2004 with ACS. Now it's a source of contention and anxiety just to pay a bill every month. Unacceptable.

I cannot afford my private student loans payments. They want me to pay $264 a month. My area was hit by a hurricane a few months ago so my loans were put on a deferment. I was told that when I came off the deferment that I could do a rate reduction payment. The deferment is over and they told me that there is nothing they can do to lower the payment. I have never worked with a business that has no heart. I was on the rate reduction for 2.5 years a few years back and paid it every month. Now all the 12.25 interest that has accrued it is back to where the original was. My life is totally over with this business not willing to work with me. I hope that others will read all the negative reviews and to get a student loan elsewhere.

Navient has terrible customer service. I make weekly payments. Sometimes I pay on it more than once a week. I pay what I can. I made a payment Dec 15th and the money was deducted out of my acct Dec 15th but did not show payment made on my acct with Navient so I emailed customer service Dec 15th and you know what the response was I got back on Dec 16th? “We saw you have not made a payment since Nov 25th. Please send copy of check or the EFT information from bank.” I looked at my Navient acct Dec 16th. There is the payment I made on Dec 15th. I have made 6 payments since Nov 25th and those payments show on my acct?? So what was this rep looking at when she responded to my email? That tells you these reps are not trained or they don't care! I will not call them because they are rude and say they will help you in emails and voicemails but that is not the case. They just want to make your life miserable and ruin your credit.

Since graduating college, I have since defaulted on my student loans due to a variety of reasons. A couple years ago, I enrolled in the rehabilitation program to remedy the situation and get my credit in check and stop the annoying collection calls. Upon completing the loan rehab my loans were automatically transferred over to Navient through the Department of Education. I hadn't experienced any real problems until recently.
I made a payment through their website and checked the balance a couple days later when it processed. Looked like to me that my full $150 didn't go through. I emailed and got a response that actually made sense. My loans were accruing interest each day, so by the time the payment is processed, the overall balance will only go down the $150 minus the daily interest. Ok, so I calculated that interest and figured out that my loans accrue just over 19 cents each day. Fine.
After this I began to check and write down my balance almost daily. That's when I noticed something fishy going on. For the most part, the balance would rise about 19 cents per day as expected, but just earlier this week I noticed a jump of about $2.15 over the course of two days! That would mean my interest would now a dollar a day!! That's about $30/month and $365/year! With no notice and no logical reason.
I contacted customer service with a strongly worded email and got a notification two days later that they had responded. I checked my account, no response anywhere in my inbox. So I checked my balance and of course now my balance reflected the original 19cents/day interest rate. They fixed it, got rid of the communication and just went on like nothing happened. Very shady. KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR BALANCES, FOLKS!!! I try to check mine daily and do the math to make sure it's in line. Currently looking for other options to pay down the debt.

A while ago I took out some "Signature Loans" from Sallie Mae to supplement the Stafford Loans I got when I was starting a PhD a number of years ago (long since aborted). Total was around US$20,000. Well I had been paying on them for many years as I wasn't making that much as a university teacher in South Korea. Well long story short, came back to the states a couple of years ago and due to a number of reasons I had to file for bankruptcy this year and took a teaching job here in China. Well according to the law, these types of loans are supposed to be discharged in bankruptcy cases, however the clowns intentionally labeled them as "student loans" which they say can not be discharged in bankruptcy cases.
So now they are hassling me over here in China along with hassling my family back in the states. I keep telling them these were Signature Loans (heck on my account information page on their website it even says these loans were signature loans and when it comes to contact them it's at a different number than their regular student loans, in fact the account number is one of a private loan). I'm now having to go back to my attorney back in the states and get the case reopened because of this which will likely cost me more money in attorney fees. These are lying cheating *bleeps* who will stop at nothing to shaft you.

In my senior year of college I took out a private loan through Sallie Mae to help cover what federal loans wouldn't. I had to have a co-signer who was my uncle (never was really close to him but he was willing to help me out). I graduated; yay, and after 6mos the payments started to become due. The amount was too high so I called Sallie Mae, explained the issue and they were able to lower my payments for almost 2 yrs. During that timeframe I lost my job; but was still making my payments, and my loan was transferred to a company called Navient. When the payment plan was getting close to coming to an end I received a letter saying to call in and restart the program.
By this point I'd found another job; however, not making even a fraction of what I was making before. I explained the situation to Navient and offered to pay a lower amount just for one year while I paid off some credit cards and I would be able to pay more than what the minimum payment was. They told me "no" because according to them I had the ability to pay the minimum amount or my co-signer could help. My co-signer called in and stated he wouldn't be able to help and was told there was nothing they could do because my balance was lower enough where if I made the minimum payment: $396, I could pay the $12,000 balance off in 3 yrs. At the time I was only making $23,000 a yr, I have a child that I provide for, household bills and additional student loans that I was and am paying. I was able to borrow the money for a couple of months but it got to the point where that ran out. So the loan went into to collections.
At this point I'm receiving 2-3 letter a month saying "call us. We're here to help. We can discuss payment options that will help." I called in, explained the situation; however, was told at every avenue there was nothing they could do. On top of the letters, I'm getting emails and phone calls all saying "give us a call to discuss payment options that can help." I called again at the end of October, finally got a person who was willing to help. I offered to pay $150 a month until February or March of next year until I was able to pay my credit cards off and apply all my payments to them. She said "I find a plan where you pay $125 a month and we set it up on automatic deduction". They deducted the first payment on the 17th of November. Everything was good until 2 weeks ago I received a letter in the mail saying they denied my payment because the co-signer has the ability to help and they didn't receive the required documentation from him.
How does that work? He can help but you haven't gotten his paperwork showing that he actually can. By this time my uncle isn't answering my calls or his sisters. I called Navient again and explained I'm trying but I'm not getting assistance from either side. The lady stated she understood and would re-submit the plan for review and at the same time try contacting my co-signer. A week later I get a call from my "Account Manager" saying they denied my plan because my co-signer wasn't responding. She stated she would try reaching out to him again by mail and telephone and then the plan would be submitted for review again. Well I didn't hear anything from Navient for about a week. Last night I get a phone call and they are telling me the exact same thing: "what have you guys been doing for the past week?"
At what point do you realize this person is trying and we should try to meet her halfway. Nothing. This person is telling me that they are going to continue to reach out to the co-signer and once they have met their due diligence submit the account to the managers to have it approved because "they don't want the loan to go into default. They are trying to avoid that. There's a light at the end of this tunnel". How long is this tunnel because this has been going on for a year now and I don't see a light. Well I get a call today from my account manager saying they have canceled any options for re-payment and if I don't pay $200 and some change by January 1st my loan will be in default. They are refusing to negotiate anything to get this loan out of default despite my efforts; but the account is still set up on automatic deduction to deduct $125 on the 17th of this month.
How do you cancel my payment plan but still want to take a payment out of my account. This is ridiculous. I'm trying. All Im asking for is a couple of months where you get a payment. Maybe not what you're asking for, but something and it's just "no". I regret ever going back and finishing school because I wouldn't have to deal with this. Sure I wouldn't have a career. Social Work $28,000 a year just started in July (no bonuses, no guaranteed raises, they haven't had a raise in over 5 yrs), that I love. I'm basically stuck because my uncle isn't answering phone calls and Navient isn't willing to help. I wish something would be done about this company because their business practices aren't right.

I have been paying on these loans for decades and the balance never seems to go down; however, my monthly payment continues to go up. My monthly payment used to be $165.00 now it is $386.00. Then suddenly I receive an email from Navient saying "new loan information". I go to the email and log in to see what is going on and suddenly Navient has a new loan from 2002 for Webster University. I never attended Webster University in 2002.
I couldn't find any paperwork on the site when I went to my account. If there is no paperwork with my legitimate signature then this would be fraud either by Webster or by Navient. I plan on getting a lawyer and suing Navient because I have not signed any loans with Navient for any money for education with Webster University so if they have anything with my signature on it then they forged it. BTW... you can file bankruptcy against school loans if you are unable to pay them. You have to find a lawyer willing to file it as it requires additional paperwork for educational loans. I'm seriously considering it.

Why does Navient continue to state that my husband and I haven’t been responsive for months? Why am I missing credits for payments taken out of my very own bank account? Why isn’t Navient honoring their very own letters to not default a student’s loan with the agreed upon payment amount (SET BY NAVIENT) with a household of two unemployed adult professionals? Why is Navient not honoring struggling students options to prevent default? Why is Navient trying to “Just Default My Loans” and not work with me and listen? I have federal loans but this pertains to only the three private loans.

I am a frustrated 20 year old college student and before I go any further, let me add that I am still enrolled and not even close to graduating yet. I am in more debt I could ever pay off in my lifetime and the next. I graduated high school in 2014 and a few months later, I enrolled in a trade college (not my ideal school but due to certain circumstances, I had no other choice). By the time the first quarter was coming to a close, I was already wanting to call it quits for how piss poorly the institution was run. I only took three classes and paid for my own textbooks with graduation money and my scholarships totaling $12,000 should have covered them so there was no need for two student loans to be taken out or even the Pell Grant to be touched (at least I thought).
By the time I was supposed to sign up for second quarter classes, I was in a car accident and was unfortunately able to continue but I saw it as my way out and immediately withdrew before financial aid could take any more money. Fast forward six months later, I've healed fairly good but I was still in no condition to be sitting in classrooms and doing clinicals so I enrolled in an online program for pharmacy technician and it was the worst decision ever! I only took a total of two classes and since the program totaled $1,500 for all nine months and they gave me three disbursements checks for each semester totaling $3,000, you would think student loans wouldn't even be a factor, if barely touched at all. So what does this have to do with anything? Well, bring it to present day.
I've left both of those institutions and enrolled in my dream one to pursue my dream career of nursing and I'm set to start in January. After nearly a year of being out of college and working two jobs, I think nothing of it. Suddenly, around September of this year, I get a phone call from my grandmother saying that she has received a letter from Navient saying that they have been trying to get in contact with me regarding student loan debt. First off, how they got her information is BEYOND me. Along with my father's when the only person reported on my FASFA was my mother. She hasn't gotten a letter yet. This completely blew my mind because at this point, I've never heard of this company or what they do. I was getting phone calls at work, all times of the day. Every time I go to my mail box, there's four plus letters from them saying the same things.
What I saw next, nearly sent me into cardiac arrest. I check my e-mail and it tells me to log-in to this site. After days of trying, I finally get in and I see that I owe a WHOPPING $12,842.28 to them for four student loans. I knew immediately something was wrong because I was always informed I couldn't have payments six months until I after I graduated. So I stayed on the phone for hours trying to get a hold of someone and when I finally did, I got terrible customer service and nonchalant attitudes. No one could explain to me where my debt came from or how it was so much. Every month, it increases and I haven't even enrolled in classes because I am terrified of compiling more on thus my dreams have been put on hold. My credit score has dropped immensely after working so hard to build it up.
I can't tell you how many times I have cried myself to sleep because I can't get my life on track due to something out of my control, knowing I couldn't pay it off even if I wanted to. I haven't begun payments because I know I am contractually obligated to keep doing so once I do and I don't have nearly enough income. What still baffles me is how A) Sallie Mae has just vanished and been replaced with this racket and B) The debt is constantly increasing and affecting my credit terribly.
After reading these reviews, I don't feel so bad and it really sucks to know that so many people are affected by these legal loan sharks harassing hard working people. I'm praying that by contacting a lawyer, they can tell me what actions I need to take. I'm hoping that by some small miracle, I don't have to pay a dime. My advice to anyone getting content from them is DO NOT make a single payment until you speak to a lawyer because once you take payments, it's a never ending cycle, even if you think you've paid it off entirely.

My student loans are held with Navient. I have opted of the Income-Based Repayment plan as I work for a non-profit and may be eligible to have my loans forgiven after 120 payments. Navient gave me a monthly payment amount based on my application for the Income-Based Repayment plan and I have been making such payments timely. So as I do from time to time I looked at my credit report on Credit Karma and noticed that my Navient loan balance had increased. I immediately went to the Navient site and logged into my account however I couldn't locate how the change in my account balance was calculated. I couldn't even find the previous month's balance. When I called Navient it was explained to me that the monthly payment that I was given did not cover the monthly interest that was being accrued therefore the difference was being added to my loan balance each month.
Here is my first problem with this explanation. Nowhere on any document that I signed or anything that I read about any of the various plans on how to lower your monthly payment does it explain that these plans will adversely affect your personal credit as the loan balance could increase each month if you do not at least cover the monthly accrued interest. My second problem is just making this payment is tough, very tough, and now my credit is being hurt. This is the epitome of living in a rat wheel. The whole student loan industry is a RACKET!

Sallie Mae, now Navient, has irreparably damaged my credit and finances. After graduating from college and not being able to find a job for close to a year, they refused to work with me to refinance my loans, despite my various attempts to work out a payment plan with them. Once employed, I resumed my payments, but they were too high as I am only 23 and an entry level employee. Again I contacted them only to be given the runaround, and when I finally spoke to someone of stature, they told me that the only way to refinance my loans was to default on them, which I did. Once I defaulted, I made another call to Sallie Mae and was able to get my payments down to $565.64. Fine. But upon recent inspection on my part, I found out that they've been taking more than the agreed upon amount totaling to $640.01. I'm now unemployed again, due to health reasons, and am virtually stuck.
I have no other money in the bank and am pursuing options in which to sue for at the very least, breach of contract. Additionally, when I first restructured my loans, they proceeded to ding my credit score so that it's decimated beyond repair because the payments that I was making were "late." There's no way they could have been late because they were scheduled to be taken out of my account on the 5th of each month as previously agreed upon. If their system is messed up, then why am I being punished for it? They've also harassed my relatives, none of whose information I gave out when applying for my loans, so they must have been mining data to figure out who to call.
Every time that I've tried to call them and straighten this out, I get the runaround and them telling me that my only option is to defer my payments, but to do so I have to pay an additional $150. What??? The people they've hired to run their "business" are completely unprofessional, incompetent, and inept; this organization should be run out of business for the plain thievery that they are allowed to inflict on American citizens. I am no longer interested in continuing to work with Sallie Mae/Navient now that they are literally stealing my money.

Suddenly in 2013 I start receiving harassing phone calls at my work phishing for my social security information and saying I owe them money. I get letters to my work saying I owe them money. I call to confirm Sallie Mae and my account is closed. How did Navient get my information if my loan is closed? Not one person has told me a balance value and this place is a scam. Very frustrating.

This is my first review for a company. I have never experienced such terrible customer service in my entire life. I originally took private loans out through Sallie Mae for college. I paid these loans while they were in deferment. Each time I called to work with them about my payments and payment options I got a different response. One representative told me that I was a year and a half ahead and no payments were due. Another representative said that my payments were another amount. When I requested different payment options, he told me there was nothing they could do. These high payments affect my ability to buy a home, and I have been unsuccessful in refinancing even with a 670 credit score. I really hope someone can do something about this company. I just feel like they are leaving everyone without options.

Several months ago I was contacted by a company to reduce my student loans. I was approved by the company but something about the company made me uneasy and I was reluctant to sign the paperwork until I spoke with Navient. I spoke with an individual at Navient and went through the phone application process and was told I qualified for the very same program to reduce my loan payment. I was told that I can go online to complete the paperwork and that the documentation was being sent to me by hard copy in the mail. I never received the hard copy and have been trying to contact Navient for months.
When I do reach Navient I get so far into the conversation and the calls are disconnected. I am getting nowhere with getting this paperwork and now am at the point where they are looking for the full payment to resume when I qualified for the program for my payments to be reduced. Help!!! I do not want my credit to suffer as a result of Navient not following through and providing legitimate assistance.

So disappointed in Navient! Their customer service is a big ZERO. You can't get ahold of anyone - they don't have any way to communicate with them, thus they get away with what they just did! Basically Navient decided to NOT send out payment coupons for the loans they have with people. In doing this they are making people be late (because in my case, I thought we had paid the loan off). You would think the same thing... No stub to pay from = no more payments. (NOTE: since 2003 I have been getting stubs from them.) So, to my SHOCKING surprise, the payment is now 2 months late, they have hit the credit report and added finance/late fees. After MANY MANY MANY attempts to get ahold of someone, I finally figured out how to log into their HORRIBLE website and say I am super late.
Well, they WILL NOT Waive the late fees - even though it's completely their fault for not sending a simple note informing me that no more payment stubs will be mailed EVER! Anyways, I paid off the entire load (including the ripoff of late fees and thankfully WILL NEVER communicate with them ever again. DO NOT USE THEM! They will not take care of you and will do everything to make it hard to make your payment. ROTTEN COMPANY! They need to be sold and close. Horrible management! I feel bad for all the students that will be stuck with this horrible & rotten company! The Government should not work with them and not allow them to deal with our bright youth!

Not only do they frequently apply payments to lower interest rate loans when I've requested and document them to go to higher interest rate loans, but payments "disappear", problems are not resolved in a timely fashion and I have spent every free minute the past several months try to fix "computer glitches" that result in more money in their pockets. They are unethical and borderline thieves. I am actively looking to take my business elsewhere, even if it means a higher interest rate loan.

I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed with the customer service at Navient. I never write reviews, but I felt in this case, it is warranted. Halfway through my school year in 2014 in California, my loan servicing company switched from Sallie Mae to Navient without my consent (I feel as if we should have a say in this?). Since I had already accrued 40K of loans in one year in the states, my Swiss husband and I decided to finish the rest of my master's degree in Switzerland, since it is only 867.00 a semester (amazing, right? That's how it should be...).
However, I have sent in a deferment request MULTIPLE times and receive a robotic response back, either by email or phone. 'You must submit a valid school code.' Um, OK. Switzerland doesn't have a valid school code because it is an INTERNATIONAL school. My counselor stated this in the letter he sent (twice, in two different letters) to their office. Suddenly, they've changed my account status and now it reads that I owe 460 dollars due in three weeks.
I am still in school, and without a job. We can barely afford food, let alone another 460 dollar bill! I have asked my counselor for two personalized letters to prove that I attend the university and yet I am sure Navient NEVER reads the full letter. All I get back are robotic responses, even though we have fulfilled the criteria listed on the deferment form. I call them and they say they will 'send in an inquiry,' but that never resolves anything either. The customer service department never seems to know what the heck is going on, either, and this frightens me, as I am sure my 40K loan will take a very long time to pay off and I will have to deal with the company for many years to come.
For goodness' sake, Navient needs to get a handle on their business. I find it mind-boggling that a company handling such large sums of money conducts itself with such blind recklessness. It is really a shame that we are thrown under Navient's rule without a say, and I feel for all of the comments below me, as many are in much dire situations than I am. I would have been in much better shape acquiring a loan from a private lender from my existing bank. I regret not researching other options when I decided to take out loans in the first place. I hope for all of us that Navient wakes up and listens to its customers, whether it be email, phone, or mail. These are our lives. We are incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to go to school and we thank you for that, but please, please, wake up and pay attention.

This place is unreal. They are nothing but crooks and thieves and it is embarrassing to be hooked by them. I woke up one day and Sallie Mae was gone and Navient had appeared. Instead of having my information automatically switched over, I had to re-enter it. I messed up on my bank account information and put one number wrong on the account #. Any normal, well run business will obviously not run my bank number because it's incorrect. I should have gotten an error message. Instead, they accepted the bank information and for three months I could not figure out why my payments weren't going through.
After those three months I called and they said I was locked out of my account. I said ok, well this is obviously just an error in my bank information, considering I haven't missed a payment in 10 years how about we just clear the whole thing up and take away any fees or penalties. Nope. They kept me locked out except for phone access for six months and did not rescind or change any penalties.

I have NEVER in my life had problems with my student loans until Navient took over my Sallie Mae loans. I have been trying, unsuccessfully, since last February to get an IBR due to unemployment. My loan came out of forbearance in Feb., and I filled out all of the papers for the IBR and mailed them in. I did not hear anything for 2 months and figured all was well. In May, I received my first bill. I called them right away, asked them why I did not get the IBR. Navient said they NEVER received it. I faxed the papers this time. 6 TIMES!! They state they never received it. I end up faxing the paperwork while I have a supervisor on the phone with me. They finally receive it. She tells me that I left off the last page of my tax forms. I send it again!! She says they received everything and the IBR is processing.
2 weeks later I get a call from them. New customer rep says the form I printed out (from their website) was outdated and needed to be the newest edition from last 6 months. How can the paperwork be outdated if I got it from their website? So now they want me to cross out old date and re-date paperwork and refax. So I did that. I got the customer service rep's # and his name. He tells me everything is processing and I will be getting an answer soon. Now they are calling me three times a day to ask me how they can help me with my loans since I'm late with my first payment. Say what?
I ask them if they read the notes on my account so that we are all on the same page and rep says they keep no notes on account! WTH?? How is it possible that they are still in business? I'd rather marry Satan than deal with this place any longer. I kid you not dealing with this place is making me rage. The reps barely speak English as well. So basically Navient scams people, lies to you, gives you the runaround, doesn't keep records of ANY KIND, and harasses you all day, every day. And yet the government does nothing. No one is investigating this sham operation? Of course not.

I have over half a dozen different student loans. Up until recently, four of them were with Navient. However, two of my loans were recently transferred from another lender (National Education). I had applied for renewal of my Income-Based-Repayment to my first lender shortly before my loans were transferred. Navient never contacted me about the IBR application, and instead took money out of my bank account at an unadjusted rate, resulting in nearly $400 of extra payment each month for which I had not budgeted.
When I called Navient to ask what had happened, they claimed to have never received the IBR application from the first lender. They told me half of my loans from the first lender were in IBR, but the other half were not anymore, and I would need to reapply directly to them. So I did. When I called back to expedite the application (as I had been told to do), I was told by a different representative that in fact *none* of my loans from the previous lender had been placed in IBR, whereas they had previously told me half of them were.
Realizing that these people didn't know which end was up, I called National Education to inquire about the original IBR application. After all, Navient claimed National Education had never sent it to them. SOMEBODY owes me nearly $800 due to this mess, and I wanted to know who. National Education assured me that the IBR application had been electronically transferred to Navient with all the rest of my loan paperwork. Which means that Navient either lost or deliberately misplaced my IBR application, thereby charging me an extra $400 in September and AGAIN in October.
When I finally received notification over the weekend that everything had been correctly processed into IBR, they also notified me that my request to withdraw from AutoPay had been processed. Except I never requested to withdraw from AutoPay. Staying in that program reduces my interest rate - why would I leave? When I called them to ask what the heck had happened, I was told they had taken me out so that my old Navient plus new Navient (old National Education) loans would not all process at the same time. Seriously?! Ask me first, you jerks! Don't presume you know what's best for me and then try to claim I asked for it afterwards!
I'm fortunate. I have a decently well-paying job, as does my spouse. We had enough money in savings that being robbed of nearly $400 in Sept. and again in October didn't cause us to miss a mortgage payment or a car payment. But if Navient is doing this routinely, they could cause people to lose their cars, or their homes. This is NOT acceptable and given the shady stories the reps are giving me over the phone, I am convinced they did this on purpose. I have had other loans transferred to other lenders, and nobody else has screwed up my IBR like this. I'm *still* waiting to hear back about the money I'm owed. This is BS.

Navient should be listening to their phone calls because they have rude employees. I received the answer, "That's not us," twice today followed with being hung up on. I called the two phone numbers on the two letters I received last week... but none of them can transfer me to the income based driven "Navient" number I needed to see if my application had been processed because I was told with the financial information given, once sent in my loans would be on hold for a year except the ones my two cosigners are already paying on. The first guy said, "Tell your cosigner to call us. We have some programs that may help him". I replied, "You've already told my father (we both received ups letters saying Navient would be taking us to court to take payment) they would be taking his 401k in Maine or his house if he didn't start paying".
I told the gentlemen that and asked if he had been making the payments, Correct? Yet he just said in his laid back don't give a crap I'm here for a paycheck attitude, "Tell him to call us". Frustrated that he would not give me an answer I said well hopefully trump or the president helps people like my family b/c my parents are both paying and my 5 year old suffers the most from this. I live in a basement and have made less than $10,000 this year. (BECAUSE I HAVE A CHILD AND CHILDCARE COSTS SO MUCH. I CAN ONLY WORK AROUND HER SCHOOL SCHEDULE AND THE HELP OF HER GRANDPARENTS, HER FATHER WORKS FULL TIME.) The employee felt the need to laugh and say trump has nothing to do with this phone call... What a rude jerk to laugh when student loan debt is tremendous in the billions. I wake up and I'm $15 in debt more with Navient.
I took out $60,000 starting in 2005 now I'm up to $105,000. That was just for 1 1/2 yrs in state and one associate's degree for $40,000 out of state. I finished the rest of college on my own paying as I went on a then $22,000 income and tax refund money. If Navient thinks I'll pick up phone calls from their rude inconsiderate employees who don't take their job seriously or understand the stress and financial burden student loans have caused they should not be there. I've asked many of their employees if they have student loans and they say no. They don't get it. They don't understand how is hurts our families, prevents us from buying a house or even groceries.
The second idiot I talked to I said right away, "Before I give you my information, is this the right number for the income driven payment plan?" He replied, "Not our department?" I said, "Well can you transfer me?" He said again, "Not our department." I said, "Well I just called a different Navient number and that wasn't it either, can you transfer me? How many different Navients are there?" And he said one last time, "Not out department," and hung up on me. The first phone number 1-855-211-0620, the second was 1-800-722-1300 both made around 915 am. Just dropped my daughter off to school, in a great mood but Navient employees ruin it like always.
If you want my money Navient process my income driven information faster than 3 weeks later and hire more employee like the gentlemen that told me all about the income driven information by apologizing to me, being considerate of my feelings and trying to solve the problem. He asked for my financial information and wanted to help. Any employee hired by Navient needs to toughen up their skin and learn the words "I'm sorry I'd like to help you". When a customer says I've gotten 35,000 in interest just say those simple words help us, do your job. If Navient is telling their employees if the customer on the phone is rude hang up... well Navient you wonder why you're not receiving any money because they do not care about each of their individual customers especially ones with children.
The president or someone will have to intervene with the student loan debt because it's sick what companies like Navient are doing... Sending letters out everyday, I get at least 5 a week stating how they want to help please call us, thank you but when you get one of their employees on the phone they hate their jobs and are unprofessional. PASS THE BUCK if you cannot handle a caller and apologize and tell usyou'd like to help. Disgrace of a company Navient is. Hopefully they sell my loans and I get a new company that hires better employees then previous Mcdonald employees. Burger King employees are more professional then Navient employees.

In 2011 my mom and I took out a 15000 dollar loan from Sallie Mae for college. I did not use the full loan and used about $13500 of it. I already had a huge amount of student loan debt through a different company (which was not giving out student loans that year) since this was the end of my 4 years of college. While in school they required us to make monthly payments of $25 of interest, paying almost $1000 in interest before I began paying on my loan after graduating in 2012.
After graduating and deferring for 6 month I owed sallie mae $16500. Last year my loan was switched over to Navient. When this happened my interest rate went up to over 10% without being notified and my payments went up. I've called them several times to discuss lower payments, deferring my loans and why my interest rate is so high. They continuously say that I agreed that I would and could make these payments after I graduated or I get an automated voice that is no help. My payoff date is 2027. I've been paying on this loan since I graduated, even making extra payments, and still have not reached the original principal of 15000, due to accruing $2000+ of interest in the small amount of time between getting the loan and beginning my payments. Along with the interest I accrue between payments. By the time I pay this loan off, I'll be paying more in interest than my original principal.
They also call you all times of the day and weekends and when you call back they tell you that you owe money and that you have to make the payment now or they will send you to a different department. I would never suggest getting a loan through this company. They do not work with you and there's lack of communication by a real person. I've tried consolidating my loans and remove this loan from Navient but because they are a private loan many companies will not allow me to consolidate with my other loans. I have had surgery more than 5 times since I left college. My college closed not even 2 weeks after I left. To top the off I'm considered disabled and Navient continue to harass me and not follow thru with sending out. No payment paperwork. It's very frustrating. Since Sallie Mae changed to Navient the service has gotten worse. Plus they only accept online payments or checks. I have had credit cards stolen more than once and don't write checks.
The place doesn't follow laws and regulations and then they claim that there needs to be a conversation about my being disabled. They need proof. Then they put my loan on hold 3 months then they turn it back on and put me in delinquency saying I'm not paying it. Claiming they never received papers from me. They never sent!! It should be against the law what they are doing.

Navient is a horrible student loan company when trying to pay back loans from school. They will not work with you and tell you have exhausted all options just to pay them back. I'm in a financial hole right now and I wasn't able to pay them in three months. They have sent me emails to call them so I can work something out. When I finally spoke to someone she told me the only thing that I can do is to submit my pay stubs and they will calculate how much I can pay back and set up an automatic withdrawal from my bank.
No no no. I do not trust this company. They're fraud. I borrowed 2,987 in 2006. With my loans being in school deferment and forbearance I owe them 10300 in 2016. And my monthly payments is 135.00 a month and the last payment will be in 2029. If you do the calculation they're going to get 33,000 dollars out of me and 30,000 is interest and I only borrowed about 3,000. They're crooks and they work nothing out with you. I'll be paying them until I turn over in my grave.

My wife's student loans are serviced by Navient. I always put a huge amount of money on the loans so they can be paid off faster. For one particular semester loan last month, I paid the loan down to zero. The online menu actually said there was a zero balance and nothing more was owed. A week later, there was a balance of $7.28 that was said to be still owed. Where did this come from? I don't understand how it was ZERO one day, and a week later we still owed more? Granted, $7 isn't a lot, but it's the point that this charge came from nowhere.
I was never happy with Navient anyway especially when they split from Sallie Mae. There were so many issues with passwords and usernames early on that it was maddening. Why does the Dept of Ed continue to allow a company like this to service its loans? It takes literally days to process a payment that was made online, yet when I go to make car or house payments with other banks, it's processed and updated within a couple of hours. I've never had to work with a company that tries to be so slow with things. If we weren't already pretty close to paying the loans off, I would definitely refinance them with a private company. There's no email contact either. I guess they don't want a paper trail in writing.

They make an attempt and increase the agreed payment plan. Said they wouldn't give the money back unless we went negative. Did nothing to work with us. Now we don't have enough to last until next paycheck thanks to them. I wouldn't recommend this bank to anyone. There are plenty others that work with you and understand each individual's situation. They just look this short message about how calls will be answered shortly. Very annoying. The biggest problem with calling them is that they do not even give a hint as to how long the call will be on hold. HORRIBLE customer service. Unfortunately, I will have to deal with this joke of a customer service dept. for years since student loans last that long. I have been on hold for over 40 minutes now. Called earlier a few times, and I had to hang up after 20 minutes since I cannot wait on hold for that long since I am working and trying to make money to pay back this evil bank corp. They stabbed me with a 110 day delinquency in the mean time which dropped my credit rating 120 pts!!! How could I make payments if I'm unemployed? They are ridiculous.
When I direct consolidated with another company, all of a sudden my account was in an income driven status & all the paperwork they denied they received 3 months ago was suddenly & suspiciously approved. They lie about EVERYTHING, they do not work with you; they do everything in their power to work AGAINST you!! I do not know whether I'm insulted or angry or a combination of both.
I wouldn't recommend them to anyone for a student loan. Their customer service is awful; they are rude & during one call I had a so-called service experience rep laughing at my financial situation. When I asked him what was so funny, he rudely replied "You & your accusations; It's not my fault you can't find a job. Go look for one!" I said "I'm a RN & I wouldn't dream of speaking to a patient the way you just spoke to me." He just continued to laugh & actually hung up on me after 50 MINUTES of getting absolutely nowhere. I never get any closer to answered questions even when talking to supervisors, get hung up on and get nothing but attitude but I try to rectify a situation. When my mother tries to call, since she is the co-signer, they tell her they can't release any information to her even though I have faxed over documentation permitting them to do so.
I have also made payments and gotten my accounts up to date, log onto my account and what do you know it shows that I am over a month behind yet if you scroll a little farther down to my payment history it shows I made payments on all 6 loans. I also dislike the fact that when you explain to them you need to lower your payments because your situation changed, you give them your financial statement for the month and they tell you "well you're upside down" yeah because you all have made my payment 3/4 of my paychecks. What do you expect.
Then they proceed to tell you that if you lower your payment any further down you won't be making any progress in paying off your student loan. So when I break it down to them they get all snooty because they realize they are robbing people blind. Doesn't matter if my payment is $600.00 or $100.00 if you all are accruing over $2,000.00 of interest on my loans, there's no way I have even hit principal and I will never get them paid off. I am currently have some in school deferment with Navient AKA Sallie Mae but the problem is I cannot afford to attend school or pay my student loan. I have tried to work with Navient but my monthly loan amount is $2073.98. I am currently the only person working in the household. I am currently trying to sell our home but with house payment and apartment payment in another city it is impossible for me to pay. I had to travel to keep a job so I had to move 2000 miles away for my home. I am trying to sell our house now but I have to keep up with the mortgage payments until it sells. The town we moved to is very expensive so my apartment is more than what our house payment was. :( Some months I barely have enough to get groceries. I do however make good but by the time I pay, Mortgage, apartment, car, insurance, and groceries I have 60.00 left out of my check.
I have begged for help with Navient. They said I could pay 700.00 a month. If I could afford 700.00 a month that would pay for me to go to school to put Navient in deferment for 4 months. They call me 8-12 times a day, call my relatives. It is crazy I get letters saying they will help but the only help I get is 700.00 a month payment. I just cannot afford it. Some days when I go to work I take my own water and carrots to eat on because I cannot afford lunch. Sallie Mae even told me it would be better if I defaulted on my 300K loans. They could sell them for pennies on the dollar and I would have to work out payments with a debt collector. I am so stressed I don't know what to do. I have taken my kids out of school to homeschool them because of the expense. I am just lost.

Deduct 775.00 for rent monthly, medication that costs about 150.00 per month, leaving me maybe 22.00 to tide me over until the next social security deposit. They say I'm not eligible for any type of hardship deferment because they were all utilized when I was with Sallie Mae. They continue to add interest and late fee. I have encountered so many issues with this company. My husband has three student loans that Navient received from Sallie Mae when the "split" occurred - one private loan, co-signed by my mom and two federal loans (one subsidized and one unsubsidized). When this happened we were in the middle of a Chapter 13 pay-off plan and had been paying Sallie Mae regularly through our Trustee.
We paid over $11,000 throughout this time period (The original loans had only been $9,000!). I thought that at the end of the bankruptcy in 2015, all three loans should have been paid off. That was not the case at all. Only the portion of the $11K paid to Sallie Mae BEFORE the "split" was applied and there is no record of the more than $7K that was sent to Sallie Mae AFTER the split in 2013 at either Navient or Sallie Mae (However, I have the actual check numbers of the payments made from the Trustee's office). This made the interest capitalize and Navient claims we owe them $18,000 on the three loans after interest and fees.
I've submitted a dispute to Navient with the list of check numbers and amounts and have waited a few weeks and haven't heard anything back on this yet.Navient started harassing my mom, the co-signer for the private loans, shortly after our Chapter 13 successfully ended at the end of last year. My husband, the actual loan holder, never received one phone call or letter. We started to pay off the loans $160 at a time, asking that a majority of our payment get applied to the "delinquent" private loan and the rest to the two federal loans.
The harassing phone calls to my mom continued. We made extra payments to the private loan to get them current as the missed payments hit ours AND my mom's credit score hard. Then we got on an automatic payment plan to have $117 applied to the private loan and $43 split between the two federal loans. This stopped the phone calls to my mom but that's about all it did. All of this money went towards fees first, then interest and NONE to principal.
A few weeks ago, I looked at the online account and noticed that we had four missed payments for the federal loans. I made an extra $123.11 payment to get us current on the unsubsidized loan, specifying that I wanted the payment to go towards that one which it did - at first. Then I noticed my automatic $43 payment made a week later was NOT split between the two loans. It was only applied to the subsidized loan, effectively making the unsubsidized loan late again. I did not give my permission for Navient to apply my payment this way.
I called and after two hours of going around and around with an agent, she assured me that my payment would be split between the two loans as it had the during the previous two months. Nope. I looked this morning and she not only left the $43 payment the way it was, she also moved the $123.11 from the subsidized loan to the unsubsidized loan. We are now SIX payments late even though we paid $123.11 EXTRA on top of the monthly $160.
I called this morning and after an hour of trying to explain to a representative and her supervisor what I saw clearly on the Navient website, I was told that they apologized for the inconvenience but they couldn't make any changes without having my husband on the line. Strange how they were able to make changes just last week without his permission on that same topic (On multiple occasions he has given permission for me to talk with them at any time). Then after I brought that up, Lee, the floor supervisor hung up on me.
I'm so fed up with this company. I feel like we've gone beyond making good faith efforts in trying to pay off the "delinquencies" and get our credit reports cleaned up but they haven't followed through by applying the funds in the way requested or agreed upon. It's a documented shell game. They make it difficult to pay off delinquencies and are sneaky, rude, and frustratingly ignorant of the information on their own website.

PLEASE READ!!! Navient has truly given me the worst experience ever! I qualify for the Public Service and Income-Based programs. Navient told me I was enrolled. After a year of payment, I went to the Federal government student loan site and found out that Navient never reported I have paid a year into my Public Service program, which means I would now only have 9 more years to pay (in the Public Service program it means I qualify to only have to pay my loans back for 10 years). Navient told me they have nothing to do with that.
I called the Federal Government department that handles student loans and they said that Navient is responsible to report it to them so they can update it in their system. Navient lied!! After I confronted them on it, the story changed to, "well, we have it reported on our website, so that is good enough." No it is not, because in the end Navient could choose not to honor the program after my 10 years of payment and there would be nothing the government could do about that.
My next complaint is when I decided to leave Navient and consolidate my loans, I sent in a forbearance request through the company I was using. I made the mistake and told Navient I was leaving so they then denied my request saying "I used all my request up". Now remember they said this. In the meantime, they reported to the credit companies twice a month saying I was not paying. Within 3 months they reported 8 times!!! Once my new loan provider sent over a request for payoff amount, Navient sent the amount back and my new loan provider paid it. I was happy, NO MORE NAVIENT!!!
Well, guess again, Navient only sent over the amount they wanted. They kept 2 of my loans and continued to send me correspondence and harassing calls. I explained I am no longer with them and the rude customer service rep said "guess again". Then he said he will do a forbearance for the amount I owe to bring me current for 3 months. Now didn't they just deny my request saying I used up all my forbearance request??? WHAT!? The new loan company immediately got on it to send over paperwork requesting the other loans. Why is Navient being difficult? If you don't want to comply with federal government laws, they need to be SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY!

I have student loans with Navient and one other servicer. I am on the Income Driven Repayment Plan at this time and recently sent in information to update my plan for the next year. I called to get confirmation that they had received my information and later that day got some emails. One was correctly addressed to me, but three others were addressed to someone with my first name and a different last name. Then a few days later (just this past week) came several letters to my address for the same person with the same first name, but a different last name. (I sent them all back "Return to Sender.") Then came collection phone calls for this same person on my telephone answering machine two days after that! I am current on my student loans!
I called Navient. Not only have they not processed my updated Income Driven Repayment Plan details yet, but I found out that they had falsely paired my account up with someone else! This person is apparently 90 days behind in making payments on her student loans and they were contacting ME about HER account. The representative saw my account and realized that there was a different person's account that some idiot in their company had linked with my contact information. She supposedly got the accounts unlinked and promised all would be fine.
Then three days later I got notice that my credit score had dropped 120 plus points! I pulled my Experian credit report and this woman's name is now also on my credit file, as are several delinquent Navient student loans, a collection for DISH (I have never ever had DISH, so I know it's not my debt), and even some closed positive accounts that were never mine! I also saw several addresses and telephone numbers pop onto my report that are not mine, but instead are apparently this other person's information.
Navient is run by IDIOTS! My last name and maiden name in no way come close to this other person's name. Just because we have the same first name does not in any way mean we are the same person! I have never even lived in the cities that she's lived in! There is no excuse for this at all. I am convinced that STUPIDITY must be a requirement that Navient looks for when hiring people! It defies logic that anyone could even pair me up with someone with only the same first name, but different middle initials and different last names (I have NEVER had her last name).
So now I have to dispute this with the credit bureaus, call up Navient on Monday (of course I found out about this on a Saturday and they care closed for the weekend), and who knows what hell their huge error is going to now cause in my own life? What's worse is that I recently applied for a credit card and was turned down. I thought it was odd because the only negative stuff that should be on my report are from several years ago when my husband lost his job and we had a financial setback. All is now current and paid on time. But now that I realize that Navient has screwed up my credit file by reporting FALSE and DEROGATORY data, my score and report are tanked at no fault of my own. If you can steer clear of this company, do so! I have never in my life dealt with such dumb bunnies!

When I had a past due balance and told them I literally only had a certain amount in my pocket, they let me give them 220, and said they would stop the calls until the following month when I could pay again. NOPE, called me every day three times a day or more, even when I picked up the phone to explain that I had paid and could pay again the next month, which a representative had already told me was fine.
THIS COMPANY IS DISGUSTING. I am a full time student, working my ** off, not sitting on my ** not working or educating myself. I have switched to the income based repayment plan because I currently have $0 income because I have not been able to get a job since getting out of Grad School. Hence all my interest is capitalized. Or sort of... But there is a catch. I have accrued FEES from late payments/former payments... or something else (they can't tell me what the fees are from. Hummm???) I paid off the $167 in fees online because they wanted to charge me $12 to make a payment over the phone. (That's a high fee!!)
However, the fee was not paid off. After a few dozen minutes on the phone with auto menus, loud static, lots of clicks that sounded like they hung up (which it did once) I finally got a person that I finally got some confusing information out of. Later I finally figured what she was avoiding saying: First, they deducted the amount of my unpaid interest. (That which was accumulating to be capitalized AT THE END OF THE YEAR.) Then they applied the remainder to my fees. So, I still owe $87.57 in Fees that must be paid or late fees will be added to my mysterious "Fees".
So, as the year progresses, I have to pay ALL THE ACCUMULATED INTEREST since applying for the no income, zero payment repayment method before I can pay the fee. Thus, if the fees went unnoticed for another few months, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY AN ENTIRE YEAR'S AMOUNT OF INTEREST BEFORE I COULD PAY THE $87 IN FEES. And I am on the zero payment option because I have no job. Where am I to come up with the thousands of dollars it would take to do that?
Now, I will have to take a look at the end of the year accounting and see if they capitalize the full year's interest, or give me credit for the amount I have to pay before I can pay the unpayable "Unpaid Fee." Want to take any bets I'll have to make some more calls to get things straightened out then??? Student Loans will never be forgiven... They are MUCH too Lucrative and can be run by different rules that would be unacceptable to any other loan program.

I have two Private Loans with this company, it has been a nightmare from the start. I have had payments misapplied several times. One of my loans was with a co-signer which I made sure got paid even if the other one did not. Due to economical events I became unemployed for awhile and had to endure threatening phone calls and disrespectful representatives. Point of interest, Navient plays "Good cop, bad cop" to get something out you. "Is there anyone you can get the money from?" My personal favorite.
I have had numerous deceptive stories (lies), I eventually got in the habit of calling back to verify what the previous rep said... Never the same answer twice. "This call is being monitored", "I am logging this into your account", they even amplify the strokes on the keyboard. I was so harassed by them especially when they called my cosigner because I had missed a payment, my cosigner!! Then they started sending her letters and had the audacity to call her job. Needless to say she was furious and angry with me. One missed payment!!!
Now here is where the deception of all deception comes into play. In an attempt to rid myself but more importantly my cosigner (She began to think I was lying to her when I assured her of what was related to me by their reps that she should not have been contacted and it would be taken care of... got worse). I was proactive the minute I became employed and was told that I was in a program that by setting up $150.00 a month payments both loans would be paid-off. I just wanted to end this and was happy to comply.
During the pay-off period I would call and get verification of receipt of payment and proper allocation, that's another story in itself. I was sent a email outlining start to finish date and was assured I would be free and clear. I held back mentioning that the two Private Loans combined was no more $3,500.00. My first payment was mid December 2014 and was suppose to end February 2016 which was last month of the auto payment.
Now I awaited the rep on the phone to work it all out and tell me what the payment "Under the program" would be, he calculated $150.00, sent me a nice payment calendar to make it look official. I asked the right questions concerning this arrangement and sought assurances, I asked for confirmation stating this arrangement and unfortunately I cannot recall if he sent it which I believe he did using my job email address which no longer exists. Okay so I made all these payments through auto-pay, wanted them to be on time because that was a stipulation supposedly with this program, no problem. Today (6/01/16) my cosigner called me and said she got email saying over $3,000.00 is outstanding!!!
I was deceived by them is the least I could say. I am so furious and fed up with them. You read the paper and hear about people doing violent acts of aggression, but what I learned dealing with this unethical and deceitful evil crooks, sometimes there may well be a valid excuse for their actions. These crooks need to be stopped and made an example of for those who follow their business practices. THEY SHOULD GO TO JAIL!!!

I have never made a payment on these loans but somehow they are showing up on my credit reports with multiple 190, 150, 90 day lates. This is impossible because they were in deferment or forbearance their entire lives. When Sallie Mae had these accounts it was only showing 2 or 3 lates. After the transfer to Navient in early 2014, up to 11 late payments per account have popped up on my credit report by you. This has ruined my credit. Also, these late payments are being reported very oddly. All of these separate accounts have different late payments for different months. This makes no sense because they were always due at the same time.

I am a co-signer on 3 of my partner's private student loans with Navient. We have had issues with them ever since they have gone into repayment status. When he was working on his internship for his master's degree, we filled out the paperwork to have the payments deferred. SURPRISE, he didn't qualify and he was told that the internship deferment wasn't eligible for those loans, after he was told that they were. Then in January (2016), they were supposed to go into default. It was 3 months later before they actually did, 8 months after the loans had gone into default, which last time I checked was 240 days when the standard is 120. During those 3 months, we offered Navient a payment that we could afford but we're told that they "couldn't do that amount" because the lowest they could go on the interest rate was 1%.
Once the loans were actually "transferred" to a 3rd party collection agency, the interest rate surprisingly went to 0.001% and was told by the collection agency that making the payments (auto payment) would be reported on our credit report but that was an outright lie, because according to Courtney at Navient, the payments will just reduce the balance and couldn't explain why TransUnion shows it being closed and Experian shows it being open but both show as charged-off. Normally when a company charges off an amount, it shows a ZERO amount on your credit report and in their systems and the balance is transferred to the collection agency, which will not allow you to view your account nor make additional payments once an auto payment is set up. I'm glad that I have transferred all of my federal loans from Navient to another company that is much easier to work with and won't tell you something different every single time you call them.

Navient (Sallie Mae) is definitely a rip off. I started paying on my loan about 4 years ago. When the government started the loan forgiveness program, I called Navient to make sure my loans were under the correct program because I work for a public service company and my loans could be forgiven after making 120 qualifying payments. They specifically told me I was in the correct program. Now 4 years later when I decide to check on my progress with FedLoan, I find out that I've paid Navient over $14,000 (4yrs of payments that doesn't qualify). So I immediately begin to transfer my loans to FedLoan servicing. I was on auto pay with Navient. They received a payment that FedLoan sent back to them. I have been calling them since October 2015, trying to get my money back and Navient keeps giving me the runaround.
I filed a complaint with my state and Navient responded to the state: "they have some of the recorded calls and they have my original loan agreement (signed when I was in college) but they don't have the recording of my asking about consolidating under the loan forgiveness program." How convenient not to have "that" telephone recording! They also claim that they don't have the payment but I have a letter from FedLoan Servicing saying they sent it back to them. Navient is full of it and they should have to give back any payments they fraudulently received from any student loan consumer. They are misleading a lot of borrowers. I don't mind paying back my student loans because I was on auto pay with Navient and still is with FedLoan but I just don't like to be deceived. Navient and any other company that deceive consumers should not be able to get away with it and move on to the next victim!

Bill pay is set up to be received on due date, on 25 April 2016. I received a letter stating loans are past due. I called Sallie Mae/Navient to see where the problem occurred. I spoke with a disinterested employee who told me my payment was late. I escalated to a supervisor who seemed to be equally disinterested in understanding the issue and simply said he would waive the "late penalty".
I called Navient back with my bank on April 28th and spoke w/ Kurt in the Philippines who seemed only interested in telling me that he understood, yet I was still late and my payment of $100 was split between 3 loans. Did not seem to care or hear, although I repeated myself about 10 times that over the last four months I have sent them a total of $1200, yet they are only crediting the loans with $400 payments, accruing interest and late fees. My bank has sent Navient/Sallie Mae with proof of payment, yet I just got off the phone with "Jeff" who seems to be a reject from the IRS, who kept repeating his Script not acknowledge anything I had to state...but was sorry for my frustration and continued to ask me to repeat myself.
I want, IN WRITING, a letter from NAVIENT/SALLIE MAE an accounting of payments made on these loans and the interest charge on any "outstanding balance" and late payments removed from these loans. Every time I call Navient, I get off the phone feeling like there is just shady business going on. I had put my loans in forbearance and when I began repayment this month, I was on the graduated repayment plan. While my minimum monthly payment is $191, I was okay with this because I will ideally pay more than the minimum payment and at the very least, I am paying the interest that accrues. When I logged on to the website on 4/14/2016, the amount due was an additional $100 from my agreed upon payment. I paid it, without question, since I was sure I had some outstanding interest from the forbearance.
The payment took 6 days to process, and after it showed the payment had been received and was withdrawn from my checking account, it showed a balance of $0.25. I honestly ignored it; I was not going to make an online payment for a quarter. But I logged on again on 4/25 to see if there was a late payment because of the $0.25, and the site said I had an overdue payment of $31.49. By the time I saw it, it was after 9 pm, so I called on the morning of 4/26 and spoke to a very nice young woman who was more than happy to look into this. Trust me, that's where my compliments end. After 25 minutes, the representative was unable to see why there was an overdue balance when my payment more than covered what I owed. She basically concluded that the money was not allocated properly and that it looked like I was paid ahead on one of my loans, so she would pull the money from there.
That really isn't an acceptable solution to me, because I will still owe an extra $31.49 in May, just on a different loan balance. And even though the loan in question is not penalized by late fees, she insisted this was the appropriate way to handle it. I don't get it, but at this point, I'll just say, "Whatever". Now, here's another issue. As I said before, my agreed upon payment for the next 2 years is $191. However, the website says I owe $153 for May. And my emailed statement says $178. So which one do I pay? Again, this was a question posed to the rep I talked to, but they just keep saying one of my loans is paid ahead, so that's why the amounts are different and to go by what the website says, as that is the most up-to-date information. Well, I did that 2 weeks ago, and now I have an overdue balance, so...
Since I am on the graduated repayment plan for the time being, I am making hardly any impact on the principal of my loans. That's okay since I was recently injured and missed more work than I had PTO available. And once I get back to work next week, I will be able to make larger payments. Also, since my payments per loan are so small, I have been unable to find a calculator online that will assist me in finding a fairly accurate amortization schedule. So, I called yesterday, 4/27, to see if one for each loan could be emailed to me. The first person I spoke with began telling me about other repayment options. I stated that I didn't want to change anything at this time, given my injury and decreased pay at the moment. He replied with, "Then I don't understand what you're asking for." I told him again that I wanted an amortization schedule for each individual loan, and he replied he didn't know what that was.
At that point I asked if there was someone else I could speak with, that may be able to provide me with my request. I was transferred to a supervisor and when I clearly stated my request, I was again presented with other repayment options. I again stated that I did not want to make any changes at this time, I just wanted an amortization schedule so I could see the impact of my payments, and use it to see how an additional payment would affect my loan. I was then told that Navient does not provide such schedules because balances change too frequently and by the time they emailed them to me, the schedule wouldn't be accurate.
Now, I understand how interest is applied to student loans, but in my life, I have also had other types of loans, and was provided a breakdown of my payments whenever I would ask. And besides, I even stated it didn't have to be 100% accurate, it merely needed to give me an idea of how my payments were being applied. The supervisor then rattled off some numbers which represented the total interest I was accruing per 30 days. She rudely repeated that an actual schedule wouldn't be possible and I would have to use those amounts to figure it out myself.
When I asked her to repeat the numbers, she literally sighed and told me to hold on because she wasn't even looking at that part of my account anymore, then instead of providing me with the amounts, asked if I was online looking at my account. I stated I was not, and she told me to log in, and directed me to how to find the amount of interest I paid on my last payment for each loan so that I could add them myself. Thanks, try to be less helpful with your next customer.
You know, I have been very financially irresponsible in my life, and I freely accept that I have done some stupid stuff with money. But I have also spent the last few years turning it around. I placed my loans on forbearance for as long as I could because my credit cards and car loan carried MUCH higher interest. Now that those are all paid, and I use credit much more responsibly, I have the means to make a real impact and get these loans paid off. But when the amount due constantly changes and the math is shady on what I paid, how can I trust that any extra I pay toward my loans will be applied in the appropriate way?

To which I asked her why I'm being penalized if they are the ones taking their time with the paperwork, that's when she got pissy.
I don't like not paying my debts, but Navient makes things very hard for people and really has no real concern for anyone. Is there any way to get legal action or just someone that can hold them accountable and reverse the damages they are doing to my family's finances and my credit score? The crazy thing is they claim I only invested 0.1 cent on my student interest loan when last year it was over $1,000. Both years I've been paying the same amount on my student loan.

Action will be taken as I have proof from my bank that it is Navient doing this to me.

They said I could have my loans consolidated and I would have to pay $499 for some processing. I could set up a plan to pay the $499. They charged $1 to make sure my payment would go through. I called them back and cancelled that but now I got a paper in the mail with Navient "Department of Education Loan Servicing" with all my student loans consolidated into one amount. I haven't made any payments to them yet. Is there any way to change it to a legit Loan Company???

If they do not want to be bothered talking to people, why do they not have an email contact or forms online for repayment plans? Just like to waste your whole day with robot options and talking to someone who barely understands you.

I have nothing good to say about this company. They are now servicing my loan after they claim it defaulted with Sallie Mae. (I was laid off from my job and couldn't afford to make payments but Sallie Mae handed my loan to Navient regardless.) So I have consistently made payments to Navient for 2+ years, never late, they automatically withdraw my student loan payment from my personal checking account. I was reviewing a statement from almost a year ago which showed a smaller balance than the one I currently have. I called Navient to ask them to explain this and their only response is that they need a high level manager to call me back which never happened after 3+ attempts to get an answer. The rep I spoke with said should feel lucky that Navient has even agreed to help me at all. He kind of insinuated that I was ungrateful.
So no straight answers, they are not "helping" anyone, and they cannot explain why my student loan bill is going up instead of down. They need to be investigated, I'm sure they are ripping off countless borrowers and I question the legality of what they are doing. They will frequently ask me if I want to settle my loan and they will throw some figure out there like $6,000. Who knows how they arrived at that number. If I had that kind of money I would pay them to get them out of my life. But I think the fact that they make an offer like that further points to the fact that what they are doing is not legal. Please someone investigate them. They are getting away with criminal behavior.

So I spoke with a Navient customer service rep on or around Feb 16, 2016 concerning my loan because I notice that my entire payment was being applied to interest. After some discussion I was told to pay $50 to lock in the monthly payments of $455 and that my first payment is due on April 1, 2016. I was assured that there would be no additional fees and that monthly payment would be $455. I logged on to make a payment today only to find that they wanted me to pay $320 more than what was agreed upon. When I called to ask why the payment was $775.67 they said I applied for forbearance, which is not true.
On Feb 16, 2016, I was told that $50 payment would stop phone calls, but the lady I spoke to today told me it was to process my forbearance request. I tried to explain to her that I never applied for forbearance. I also made it clear that I was assured that there would be no additional fessing that that my payment would be $455. I asked to speak to a manager and was kept on hold for 10 minutes, so I hung up only to find that the manager (I assume it was the manager) called me while I was on hold. My payments to Navient recently went up from $78 to about $191 which is a huge jump! I received two very nice letters from Navient stating "your loans are about to go up, we can help you with payment options," which I thought was extremely nice! So, I call them up and I get a gentleman on the phone, and I tell him that more than doubling my payment is not going to work for me since I live penny-to-penny. I pointed out that I'd been an incredible customer up to this point and had NEVER missed a single payment; if they raised by payments by this much, I was not going to be able to continue making payments.
He said no problem and then continued to rhyme off a list of a TON of options available, and I'm thinking thank God! BUT, he ends the conversation with, "buuuut, none of these options are available to you." Then why are you reading them to me?! To tease me?! So, basically it ends up that there are no options available to me, and that I'm going to get stuck making these obscene payments, so I ask to speak to a supervisor, because guess what? I can't afford the payments!!!
The supervisor was BEYOND RUDE, she gets on the phone with an attitude. And I said, "I cannot afford to make these payments, why would guys want a excellent customer to go into default?" She's like, "I don't care, you're going to have to find some way to make these payments." HOW?! Where does all this extra money supposed to come from? Magic? In addition to refusing to make negotiations via the mail, after repeated attempts to get answers without having to talk to someone on the phone (which I contacted the CFPB about a few months ago), Navient has received over $20,000 in payments from me over the last 5+ years. I was horrified to find out that as of today, almost ALL of that money has gone into interest only payments. Of the five separate private loans that were taken out, only ONE of them has decreased by around $1,850. The rest of them have gone up - way up. In short, $64,000 has turned into $75,000, and counting (yes - that's $30,000+ in interest and fees - just about half of the original loan). This is a nightmare.
I am making the only payments I can "afford." In all reality, I can't even afford the monthly payment for the plan they put me on. But after trying to negotiate with them on the phone this February (while on the brink of default) and being asked all of my income and expenses, they came up with a random monthly payment after talking me through their 1% interest plan. That number does not line up with my income vs. expenses - which are extremely high, and always have been. But according to their reps, this is the best offer they are willing to make.
Even after explaining to them that I am an artist - living paycheck to paycheck, that I do not have health insurance because I cannot afford it, and that I need to start putting money away for retirement (but cannot afford it), there is still no other solution on their end. It is so incredibly disheartening that all of the money I have worked so hard to support myself with, and have used to "chip away" at my student loans, feels like it is being thrown to the wind. It seems that no matter what I am able to afford, no payment is large enough that will make a dent in my principal balance. It feels like there is no end in sight, and I am increasingly frustrated with the way that Navient does business.
It is truly criminal what they are getting away with and I don't know where else to turn. Private loans need an income based plan or something, anything to relieve the pressure from these monsters. Having a college education should not warrant punishment, but that's exactly how it feels. Like many others here, I desperately want to pay down the principal balance. And like so many others, Navient is making this a near impossible task. All of us need to start speaking out against this complete and utter nonsense. You are not alone. Make your voice heard.

What a joke their customer service is. The first line agents know and do nothing, placed on hold each time she had to see if they could help me (Multiple times). With all their supposed programs they cannot help people in trouble. Been laid off three times (Dislocated Defense Worker, caused by the US Government).
At the time Sallie Mae said I only qualified for a forbearance, never offered any other program or help. Thus around a $40.000 loan now over $75.000 (almost doubled, over $30.000 in fees and compounded interest), it is like the banker having the key to the vault, or a payday loan company. I see now why they did not offer me any other helpful programs, they are really just Congresses loan sharks running the system! They get to have their cake and eat it too. I graduated in 1996, I am 58 years old. I will never get to retire. The way it is going I will be dead before these loans are paid off. I am not asking for a free ride, just some real help. Piling more and more fees and compounded interest is not help, it is just helping someone dig a deeper hole in watch one cannot get out of at almost 60 years of age.
I am also a US Navy vet and yes used part of my old GI bill to start college, but the old bill was canceled and thus had to get loans to complete college, while raising a family of 4, working full time, and helping put my own kids in college. No Vet should be saddled with college debt at least for a BS Degree. Also why do they base the help on Gross income? The US Government takes almost a third of my income out for taxes (my money that cannot to be used to pay my bills) and that does not count the USG 's requirement to have Health insurance (More costs). The US Government created this mess. They need to provide real help and fix it. The system has already made enough money off me already.

I am so frustrated. I really do want to pay off this loan faster. Years ago all my loans were consolidated by USA Funds. Then I was switched over to Navient. My total loan is now around 35,000. I have been making all the regular scheduled payments online. Then I started making a few extra little payments online. It seemed to me the daily interest they charge was going up so I watched it daily. I supposedly have a fixed interest rate of 8% (too high I know but I had no say so in the matter - this is what they assigned me).
I was being charged $6.72 a day in interest. I had an extra $1000 saved up so I decided I would put it on this loan which has been a noose around my neck for years. So I paid the $1000 plus $38.10 that had daily accrued for 5 days at $6.72 a day. I chose the online option to not advance the payment. So it went through without any problems. The next day it show as posted, with $1000 applied to the principal and $38.10 to interest, as I was hoping. Then for the last few days, I have been watching the details of my loan. They are now charging me $7.40 a day in interest instead of $6.52!! That is 68 cents more per day in interest than I was already paying... In year that will come up to $248.20 MORE in interest! On a loan that the principal that is now $1000 LESS!!
The people on the phone are useless. How can they do this? I am afraid to pay extra again now. If I pay extra, are they just going to keep going up on my daily interest? I have tried to research answers on this but I can't find anything. This means that this extra $1000 will be eaten up in four years. I thought about hiring an attorney but I really don't have the money for an attorney. I feel so helpless and feel like I can never win with this student debt. I went to a pricey private school that I thought was my dream but it has turned into a nightmare. I will not allow my children to repeat my mistakes. No student loans for them ever.

When Fannie Mae was forced out of business because of deceptive and criminal behavior it became Navient. Navient has refined the deceptive and criminal behavior to an even greater degree. Navient has created a plethora of associate companies that they use in their deceptive practices. Find any student loan guarantor or collection company and you'll find they are all part of the Navient family of deception. My son has been trying to pay off his student loans for 6 years. First Navient took his monthly payments and applied them only to his low interest loans early and making his high interest loans go into default. Once they made his loans go into default they started charging him additional fees often great than the total interest on his loans.
At first when asked Navient refused to tell him that his loans had been put in default then later when he owed tens of thousands more on these loans then they reported that they were in default, too late to save him from 24% penalties, etc... Navient agreed to transfer the loans to the US Department of Education Default Resolution Group so that the loans could be paid. Five months after they said that the loans had been transferred to the Dept of Ed we find out that they were sent instead to another Navient subsidiary, NW Loan Association, which has now enlisted Navient to continue to collect the debt. Then I am referred to a research group for a response in a week. I know how to calculate interest. Either they are intentionally ripping me off and many others, or their website and calculations are wrong and is reporting wrong amounts. In either case their representative was totally incompetent. How can a company with this behavior/competency be allowed to handle student loans of many? Don't they need to meet a level of standards to be allowed to handle students' loans? But when I make payments it only take $180 each month for interest, leaving me a leftover interest amount every month, which they then apply in July, like they did last year. This company is a fraud. They tell you one thing and then call you weeks later with conflicting information from what was said before. I always make my payments at least two weeks ahead of my due date. This month I am going to overpay them $53. I guarantee next month I will be receiving phone calls saying I am delinquent again. I don't know what the difference is between the Federal and Private loan divisions of Navient. This all started because after 5 years of being on a very low payment plan, I was notified that both my Federal & Private loan payments would be changing. I should start off by saying that I had a fantastic experience dealing with them for my Federal loans last month. The rep worked with me to explain my options and come up with a plan that actually works for me. The rep told me it was too early to deal with the Private loans, as that payment wasn't changing until April. He recommended I contact them in March and gave me the number to call.
So I called Navient yesterday to see what my options were to lower my "new" payment amount for my Private loans (expected this to be easy, like the federal, I realize they are different but didn't realize how different). First the girl answers, asks me my SSN & Name, and says "oh you're in the wrong dept" so she transfers me to another girl. This person asks the same questions, and follows up to confirm my address, phone #, etc... So then she says "I see your account is up-to-date and current, what are you calling for?" But she said this in a way like, "why would I be calling if I'm making my payments on time?" (it was very odd). So I told her I was notified my payments would be going up quite a bit starting next month and I wanted to see what could be done to lower them... the phone goes silent... it's like she hung up on me but never disconnected the call...
I waited probably 3 long minutes saying "hello?" every once in a while. I thought maybe she was checking on my account and perhaps forgot to mention the "please hold" in some form or another. So, not knowing what number I was "transferred" to, I called back the same number I originally called. Told the girl that my call must have been previously disconnected, looking for someone to look into my account and assist with my payment options. So now she can help me (meaning, I was never in the wrong dept to begin with?). She tells me my payments are going up 200%(!) but that it's good because I'll be paying more towards the principal. I say, "yes that would be great," however I was paying the lower amount and no extra because... that's all I can afford.
She asks why my co-signer isn't helping (my mom, I graduated 7 years ago... the last thing she wants to do is pay my student loans, she JUST finished paying the loans she took out for my first 2 years). I told them she's not in a position to help. So this girl tells me to list out all of my expenses on the phone with her... asks me about everything. I'm not prepared for this, I don't have numbers in front of me, I've never really thought about how much I spend on food every month? So we finish her little quiz and she puts me on hold, comes back to tell me that I shouldn't have taken out a line of credit for a car last year, since I should have known my payments were going up. Guessing they ran my credit report while I was on hold WITHOUT telling me, is that legal? She then proceeds to tell me there's nothing that can be done. That I should be glad I have a "very low" interest rate and that my payment isn't all that high.
I told her I wasn't prepared for her "expense quiz" and that if I find I was missing something, should I call back? She said that her "supervisor" wouldn't approve a loan extension, and even if they did it wouldn't make much of a difference. So that was about it... zero options provided. I RARELY write reviews, good or bad, ever. I just couldn't shake this conversation, it was so demeaning. I suppose my only real option, aside from dealing with them for the rest of my life while I pay off these loans, is to consolidate through another lender. I understand I took out loans, I just cannot believe the unprofessionalism I encountered. If I have any advice, it would be to STAY FAR AWAY from this shady company.

Navient has been a one of the worst headaches I have ever received from any business/service provider. I have recently found out that the monthly payment that I have been making were all going towards my loan's interest. This would not have been such a shock if I was not misled by Navient that some of my monthly payments were going towards the interest and some towards the principal. That was a lie and it took me almost a year to find this out. I have been making about a year worth of payments and the total balance has increased. How does that even happen? Well it was due to them taking my "extra" money payments (etc. "extra" meaning money I have paid over my monthly interest payments) and paying the interest instead of the principal.
I learned from my financial advisor that as long as I cover my monthly interest payments I could request for any extra payment to be directed towards the principal. So, I called Navient... and to make a long story short, regardless if I request how I want my money to be divided, they will take and pay what they (Navient) feels like needs to be paid. Until the interest is paid off, they said. I need help. Is this not against the law for them not to honor my request...??? By no means am I not trying to pay them money. I just want to pay enough to cover my monthly interest and pay a little extra on the principal. Considering that the interest is based on the principal balance, who wouldn't want to bring the principal balance down...???
Navient is the answer to that. They are trying to keep me from paying any money on my principal balance for as long as they can. SMH. College was fun (Tennessee State University) and I had some experiences of a lifetime, but maybe I should have went to a trade school and/or just started working fresh out of high school. At least I wouldn't be in the situation I am in now - having a degree and working right next to people that simply didn't think about trying to get a degree. Due to the debt that this degree has put me in, I have to work EXTRA hard to make it out here. Word to the wise, think long and hard about borrowing from Navient or going to college without a scholarship because the consequences can be brutal and it's not getting any better. You could borrow $20,000 to go to school, but by the time you're finished paying it off, you've paid $100,000. Can someone help me please...???

Every year when IBR time comes around, no notifications are ever sent out and account us always been disabled months in advance, so students don't get notices. This company continues to defraud students in an effort to make them late and compound interest. They refuse to process paperwork and keep rejecting, so that they can collect late fees. They have destroyed our ability to buy a home and we are now living in a hotel with our 2 children. If our income is 53k per year, how can the payment be $1500.
They are incapable of processing an IBR that includes a federal paystub. On the paystub it is written bi-weekly and in the hours worked for the pay period it states 80 hours worked yet they keep rejecting based on missing pay period. This is a deliberate act to defraud our family! Every time I update my contact info on their website I come to find out that that contact info is missing or altered a short time later. My account is randomly disabled during the year so that I can make mistakes in managing this account. I hate this ** company!

We originally had Sallie Mae for our school loans, and they were fabulous and easy - but then they got bought out by Navient. Navient is, BY FAR, THE worst loan company to deal with!! Our biggest complaint is that they make it difficult to actually pay them!! They hound you for payment, but are extremely picky about how they want to be paid! With Sallie Mae, we were able to use a credit card, debit card, or check and it didn't matter who paid it (spouse, parent, etc.).
But with Navient, they will only accept a debit card over the phone (for which they charge you $15!!) or online, but it has to be your account (CANNOT be a spouse, parent, etc.). And with the customer service, they just keep repeating themselves, that 'they can't do that, they can't do that,' which is frustrating to listen to! I have N.E.V.E.R. dealt with a loan company as stupid and awful as this!! I feel completely trapped since Navient bought out Sallie Mae, and if I possibly can, I will be RIPPING my loans from them and taking my business elsewhere!!!

I'm writing here because maybe not enough people have complained, which is why NOTHING is being done about Navient, but they are low down. They're crooks. Yes, we took out the loans. YES, we want to repay them. When you can't pay a mortgage, you can refinance. We don't have that option. You work with the company. Right now they're telling me I can more than afford my payments. I just did the math... no, I can't. I'm left with close to $100/mo when I calculate how many bills/expenses I have to live, and how much they want me to pay. That's all I have. $100/mo. And we all know how expenses work.
Some days you might have to pay for extra things. Maybe gas prices go up. Maybe you start a diet and need to spend a little more on food. Maybe you see a specialist. I'm barely surviving. I want to get back on track but they won't work with me. They tell me to just pay nearly $700/mo - I have another loan! I have 3 student loans, in fact! I'm disappointed nothing's being done. We just want our payment per month lessened. That's it. We WANT to pay them back! Someone help. PLEASE.

My account was recently disabled and I was not able to log in- I engaged Navient's customer service team, and it has now been almost 3 MONTHS and my account was JUST fixed today. Navient mixed up my social security number with someone else's which somehow caused my account to become disabled. In total, I probably called close to 13 times before the issue was ever solved. I was told I needed to fax over a copy of my Social Security card and once I did that the problem would be solved. I was not comfortable faxing my SSN Card in the first place and asked for another option, the representative told me that I could log into my account and attach a copy online. I laughed at her because how could I do such a thing if I am LOCKED out of my account... I was then told I needed to reset my password online, which I couldn't do because my account was disabled. I was told that the login was not case sensitive, which is not the case...
I called 72 hours later to follow up to see if they had received my SSN Card and they informed me I would be able to log back in the next day. Once again, I try to log in, account disabled... Yet again, another phone call, provided with the wrong terrible information... no help... Finally, after escalating this to a team lead, I was provided with mediocre service & my problem was solved after a 47 minute phone conversation. To top it off, I did mention the 13+ times I had called, & the Team Lead said, "It shows you only called 3x in our system, our reps must have not added any notes to your file." Their customer service is terribly uneducated and unhelpful, the fact that it took almost 3 months to solve a problem they created in the first place by mixing up my social security number with someone else's is ridiculous.

They will call me and I will explain the payment is forthcoming on the following payday, saying they are taking note of the payment and will immediately call my cosigner and bully her into a payment. I was just today able to pay off the remaining balance of approximately $2600 (Mind you the original principal was around $10,000 and I have since paid almost $30,000 in payments over the past 16 years). The amount was paid online last night and they called my cosigner this morning (who made a payment on my behalf the day prior) to tell her there is a past due amount that must be paid.
When past due during periods of financial troubles, I have attempted to make arrangements for a 2 month forbearance. I was told that it must be current to do so, after getting current they would then tell me that I was not eligible for a forbearance as I was currently in good standing. My loan was for vocational training. It is considered a student loan for the sake of the lender to be unable to discharge the debt yet it has never been eligible for a deduction on my taxes as it was not for a full time accredited college. The originator Sallie Mae and Navient who acquired them should be considered predatory lenders with unethical collection practices.

It WAS the same company!!! I have proof they have taken out monthly 450-500.00 and they say I've made no payments! I have bank statements proving it!
I immediately stopped payment. Two different times, I was given cell phone numbers from the company as well! They locked me out after the bankruptcy, and I was all caught up on my bills and had auto pay. When they stopped my auto pay, they made me go into forbearance and pay a late fee, which three attempts to get back on auto pay, ended up with the rep keying in the wrong account numbers. I have to be fair and in my post on 2/6. I stated that Navient in error stated I had $0 payment due. In exploring that further and in speaking with the additional staff there, I guess my income is low enough and in the Repay plan I end up having a $0 payment. This still counts towards public service loan forgiveness but will probably leave a really big tax burden at the end (one mountain at a time). It is possible to have $0 payments under a few of the IBR based plans so I have to correct my review and give Navient props, for now.

I have been in forbearance for a year and a half. Time to bite the bullet and start repayment. I contacted them 12/21 to discuss options and again on 1/6 just to clarify. I uploaded necessary docs on 1/7. I received an email on 1/15 that they received my documents. Contacted them again by email 1/21, 1/27 and finally called yesterday, 2/5. (Btw, email is not an efficient way to communicate with them but I like things in writing). After 30 mins on the phone, the person I spoke with was very helpful, knowledgeable, said she had checked the account, they had received my docs and she reviewed them and they were all correct. She said they had received all of my emails but it's a busy time, so... She said I would receive a communication through the site in about a week but payment wasn't due until 2/22 so I had plenty of time. We discussed payment options such as credit card, just in case I had to make it quickly.
Today I receive an email that I have a new document pending so I log into the account and there are two. The first one says they have received my request to LEAVE IBR. The second one says have been Approved for IBR and I have $0 due on 2/22/16. Sallie Mae/Navient, same cluster **. SM defaulted my loans back in 2011 because I couldn't pay the high payments, IBR was non-existent and I had run out of forbearances and was in foreclosure as well.
I requested an administrative hearing and on the evening before, I was informed I had to attend a court hearing the next morning for my job, at the time, a child welfare social worker. I called every number I could find the next morning, including the one on the notice of the Admin Hearing and couldn't reach anyone. That was it, I was toast. They added about $20k in penalties to the loan balance (approx $108k prior) and then issued an administrative wage garnishment. No one would respond to me for 3 months. Once 3 payments were extracted, I suddenly had options. I consolidated with DOE and they give the servicing right back to these idiots. Legal loan sharking is what it is.
I work for non-profits so my hope is that after 10 years of payments, I can get public service loan forgiveness, but who knows by then. I will be working until I die. All I know is that when I graduated I had $75K in loans. They are currently $190K 12 years later. I went back to school later, before I was managing a large salon and spa. I wanted to do more, to give back. I should have kept doing what I was doing and written an extra check to charity every year and called it a day. I made more in that job than I do in social work.

Working night and day right now to stave off attacks from Navient leeches. After hiring an attorney and disputing the debt for my wife's education (a huge economic loss), the debt should go into a "disputed" status. Which means by law I can withhold payments while the investigation is taking place. The creditor may not take any legal or other action to collect the disputed amount and related charges (including finance charges) during the investigation. Everyone is entitled to dispute a debt and investigate the lender for any violations of the contract or validation of the debt. In most cases, the lender would not even be able to provide proper documentation tying you to the debt. These violations, combined with unlawful debt collection practices, can be leveraged to force a settlement or get your debt dismissed in court.
Cease and desist letters went out. Of course, I anticipated the Navient leeches would report the loan as delinquent. And they did. This had a huge negative impact on my credit, of which I am currently disputing my accounts with the almighty credit bureau. After being bombarded with calls from the Navient leeches, they then turned their attention to the co-signer (my in-laws), demanding they start making payments. This is again in violation of the law. They are legally required to work directly through my attorney. They then reported my in-laws to the credit bureaus as delinquent after they were unable to extract money from them. This has affected their credit as well as they are now unable to refinance their mortgage. This has also affected family relations (enough said).
We live in a one bedroom apartment with very little living space. We are unable to take out credit of any shape or form. The very basic requirements for living in today's society and our entire future are now in the control of these Navient leeches. And this is only at the front end of the process. There is a lot of misery to follow. I am disgusted at what our government will allow. Someday, you will know us. On behalf of the scores of debt slaves out there, Navient, I refuse to surrender my future and become another one of your money-sucking cash cows. Once I get all my documentation in order, I will beat you. Change is coming. And it is not in your favor.

Okay it is not just me having problems with Navient. I cannot believe how many e-mails I get hounding me, new documents and payments, etc. Plus, their website just sucks. It is not user friendly. I have 2 student loans with them and it is a nightmare. My first student loan was around 4,100 dollars, payment 124.00 a month for 10 years. How is this possible. My payments should not be this high for this many years. I had a student loan with Nelnet at one-time, loan amount was around 7000.00 dollars, my payment was 50.00 a month for 20 years. When I could not make payments to Nelnet I would file a Hardship Deferment. And make payments when I could. Anyways had to go on disability ran out of deferments; so I call Nelnet - they drop the payment down to 25.00 dollars a month. Did get it paid off with NO PROBLEMS, along with other Student loan companies.
Back to Navient! I file 2 Hardship Deferments and now they say that I am out of Deferments; I don't see how. Being that I went to school for my Business Degree I did some math and come to figure out my payments should be 83.80 a month with interest. This makes a 40.20 difference. By the way, in 1 month my 4100.00 went up almost 100.00 dollars so now it's around 4200.00 dollars. So, my question is, what is the extra 40.20 dollars for? And how can my loan go up 100.00 dollars in a month. Because it is NOT INTEREST! Here is the interest formula. (Interest=Principal * Interest * time) = (P 4100.00 * .006 * 30 days/365= $2.02 this is if interest being added monthly otherwise (time) would be 1 or 365/365. This is just example.
My other issue with them is I wanted to write a check for my payment but you have to a statement and I could not find the statement to print one out; therefore, I made a payment online (now this was my first payment to this company) and I wanted to pay a little more than what my payment was, but it would not let me. This was never a problem with Sallie Mae. I could always pay more if I wanted to. I get the feeling that they don't want anybody to pay-off their loans. Their math doesn't make any sense! I have been looking for some other company to take over the loan with no luck. Nothing about Navient seems right. I have called them to send me papers telling me why I was deny for a Hardship Deferment but never got it. Now, I am facing problems with my second student loan that they have.
I wish somebody would look into this company, because by reading all of these posts something is just very wrong. They are a nightmare to work with. One last thought, if any company tries to take money out of someone checking acct without Authorization is against the law. For anybody who is making payments by check, money orders, cashier checks make COPIES of these checks. Furthermore, if you call them get the person's name, and an ID # if they have one and write down the person's name, ID if apply, date, time, and what the conversion was, try to write down everything that was said. So you have documentations. And Thank you everybody who has post about this company because now I know what I am up against. Good luck to all of you.

I wasn't denying that I owed the debt, nor trying to skip out on re-payment, but the representatives on the phones have no education, they don't know how to negotiate a contract. They know how to read off a computer screen and tell you NO and tell you that you HAVE to pay. They do not want to work with you on a reduced payment plan with a reduced interest rate, nor want to negotiate with you. It wasn't easy, it took time, money of my own, lot of research, phone calls, letters, and finally my own lawyer, but it will work. There's a ton of information on Navient and how bad this company is not only towards college students, but towards the economy. There are lawyers out there that work in connection with Navient and Sallie Mae so research and do your homework! They will try to negotiate a deal that works for the company, and not you. Find a good lawyer that works with student loans. So while they penalize you with high interest rates and late fees, they will make more money off of you than ever. So I couldn't let them make money off of me any longer, I repaid what I owed, period. The absolute worst company to deal with. We have worked with twenty different individuals, callers, supervisors and an ombudsman named Jeff. Jeff will not leave a phone number when he calls and our bank has sent a letter to be signed from one of their officials that they never received the third check. Signing it would just allow the bank to cancel the third check and issue another one.
This has been going back and forth since Oct. 2015. It is now Jan. 29th, 2016. They assured me no interest will be added until this is resolved. No one wants to take responsibility which seem to be the new American way of doing business. Third call: Ms. ** wasn't available, but she had started a research request on the account; confirmed that Navient DID have my Letters Testamentary. They were acceptable, and I needed to call back toward the end of this week to see if Navient could give me info on the loans. In my opinion, this company appears to have a definite lack of knowledge of legal requirements for getting information on loans, no one is accountable for what is going on, inability for customer service to respond to questions, and sloppy paperwork practices - 1099C not complete & different stories as to whether Navient has the information I have sent them 2-3 times, or not.

Navient is the most irresponsible financial service provider on earth. I am the co-signer on a school loan who has taken over the payments as my niece (the primary) kept missing her payments. Her grandmother was trying to help as well but both are extremely poor. They were also poor at documentation when they actually did make payments so they have little proof of some payments they made, in particular with money grams. Even in instances that they obtained a confirmation number on a payment, no one at Navient can ever find their own confirmation number.
I have had multiple communications on my niece's and her grandmother's behalf about missed payments that weren't missed, payments that were never posted therefore "don't exist", conversations about why they took $38.00 dollars from her grandmother's checking account without authorization which, by the way, $38.00 is not even the amount of the payment. This she has proof of in her bank statement.
Since I've taken over the loan it has always been paid on time, never missed UNTIL this month 01/2016. This month I went online (because I refuse to go automatic and allow Navient free access to my account) and authorized the date I wished to make my payment via my checking account in the same manner I have always done and according to Navient's step by step prompts. I set the payment upon its due date as I always do, clicked "make payment" and printed my confirmation sheet which clearly shows the last four digits of my checking account. I've held this account for thirty years.
Two weeks after I "made my payment" I got an email saying my loan payment was past due. I looked up my payment history and sure enough it showed they attempted to withdraw the payment and the next line posted said payment was reversed which means for whatever reason, and I believe it was coded incorrectly, the money did not transfer. I checked my bank to be sure and no Navient withdrawals had been made.
SO. I called Navient and spoke to a representative who told me I had listed my checking account as a savings account and that's why their withdrawal attempt was unsuccessful. We had a discussion about how I made my payment the very same way every time so how can my account suddenly have this problem. I told her my confirmation sheet clearly shows the same account number I have always used. She had no real answers. I told her she was not helpful, dismissed her and went back online to pay the "late payment". I re-did my bank info as the payment screen prompted and did the other required hoop jumping along with being forced to pay next month's payment as well even though it is not due for another 3 weeks. I clicked "make payment" and their site went down at that exact moment.
SO. I called Navient again and talked to a different person and asked if they got an online payment. She said no. So I went through the whole thing again but when I asked why my original payment was unsuccessful she put me on hold to find out. Her answer(s) was completely different. She said the reason listed was there was no signature on the check, she then acknowledged that was strange since it was an online payment and not a check. She looked again and her next answer was "no funds in the account". I know for a fact this was and is not true because when I checked my bank in the very beginning of this circus I also checked my balance. So, three different answers. All inaccurate.
I decided to make my payment over the phone out of my checking account that I've had for 30 yrs... same acct. number for thirty years and now I've yet to see an email confirmation. Honestly, I'm trying everything I can to pay my bill and their incompetence and irresponsible practices are making it impossible. After I hung up I filed a complaint with the FTC and everyone else should take the time to do so. Their number is 1-855-411-2372, consumerfinance.gov. Navient is a predatory lender and should be stopped from their destructive, dishonest, harassing practices.

When this company used to be Sallie Mae, I would receive documentation regarding my loans and IDR re-application through my inbox. On the Sallie Mae website, this was already difficult to find. As a result, I missed an IDR notification and my loan amount went up which forced me to use a month of forbearance. They don't even contact you to let you know you have a message in this confusingly placed correspondence area. But I won't make that mistake again.
EXCEPT, now that Navient has come along, everything has changed. Their newly redesigned webpage doesn't even spot a link to that inbox. There is a link, however, to the old page and I can still access the inbox through there. But for how long? Will they get rid of that and intentionally try to keep us in the dark regarding our accounts?

Sallie Mae/Navient have created financial ruin and depression for many borrowers. There is no way of getting a reasonable payment that you can pay off in a reasonable amount of time. No wonder so many fail at repayment when they are setup to fail. The high-interest rates and fees add up faster than a person right out of high school has the mindset to understand the consequences of. Had I know I would be repaying a never ending loan, I would have chosen a different path in life. One with attainable goals not half of my income going to a student loan that the principal never seems to lessen. As if the capitalized interest over the time you are in school isn't enough income for this company, they also continue variable interest for the rest of the repayment period (15 to 30 years). An original loan for $8,145.00 will have a total repayment amount of $30,860.96. That is robbery if you ask me.
Anyway, my issue at the moment is I have requested a complete payment history from Navient being that all that is available online is the history from the time they bought my loan in 2013, however, I wanted to see everything I've paid to date. I started repayment with Sallie Mae in 2010 and Sallie Mae said they sold all the history along with the loan so they have no records. Twice Navient has told me to look online to view my history which only goes back to 2013. They either do not have the prior history, which seems they should have, or they are refusing to provide me with it. Does anybody know if they are required to keep these records? Also, if I request them should they have to send them to me?

I am a co-signer for my daughter's school loan. I have three loans. She has been diagnosed with an illness. I have informed Navient in the past that she was diagnosed and that the max she could pay them was $158.00. It seems that they never document her account because I have had this discussion EVERY month for the last 8 months. I received no phone call or direct mail to inform me that a payment had not been made. I called to discuss that as the co-signer was not properly notified. I would bring my account up to date. That because I was not properly notified as the co-signer I request that they remove the delinquent from my credit.
I had difficulty with the representative, Alen **. He does not speak English very well. When I asked for a fluently English speaking representative one was not "available". I was told 3 different numbers that needed to be paid. 280.00 (her monthly agreement $158.00). Total bill of $670.00 or the total bill of $946.00. He told me he would not remove the late payment (remember I am the co-signer and I was not properly notified). I asked for his supervisor. One was not provided. He then told me he COULD remove it from my credit - if I gave him authorization for auto debit from this point forward. I don't do auto debit. There have been some complaints filed of Navient messing with people's bank accounts that I read online. Another concern was he told me three different numbers that needed to be paid. $280.00, $670.00, or $980.00. The monthly payments are $158.00.
I thought about going ahead and giving him an account number if it meant removing it off of my credit. He told me in another sentence he WOULD NOT be able to remove it from my credit. I then got frustrated and pointed out how many times I repeated myself and had to explain things. That he was telling me two different things. The amount owed and his authorization to remove from credit. Also that a supervisor was not available - but I could hear someone in the background coaching him? The bottom line was I was only able to talk to him - the communication was confusing - I was told to give him my bank account number or he would disconnect the call. My call was disconnected... The end.
Updated on 02/01/2016: I still have had no resolution to my complaint. I went into my daughter's account and turns out that we have been paying them EVERY single month the amount that we told them we would be able to pay. This includes going over our budget and the illness my daughter has been dig. with a representative every other day. There is no desire on Navient to fix the issue. In the last year I have more than doubled my payments and now they consider me late because I cannot triple my payments. This is very unethical.

However, I received a letter from the department of education that the loans are not being paid. I called loan locator to check to see what loan. It's the SAME one I've been paying on for the last 3 years. I call the dear tent of education first and talk to them. They said I need to have Navient send them a letter stating that the loan is being paid. So I call Navient and the lady was COMPLETELY rude to me, told me that they don't work for the department of education and they will not send a letter to them. I've sent my bank statements and all proof to show that I've been paying it but just keep getting the runaround. This is the one of a very few bad reviews I have written in my life, and I write many good reviews. I was a trainer for a company of 5000 on customer service issues, and I believe Navient's service is too extremely poor to not complain. We are the parents of a child who has student loans with Navient. There was a confusion on the account. It took 8 calls, and at that point when the representatives didn't know what was going on with the account, they had us write it all up and send it to the "back office" (whom you cannot talk to - as told to us by two reps). Two stock letter replies arrived, and neither had the courtesy or competence to address the question in any form at all - really - not at all - incredible.
At that point, I was able to talk to a "supervisor." Over the course of a week, the supervisor was supposed to call me 4 times. She never called once on the day she said she would, and never called me at all. I always had to call her the day after, giving her the benefit of the doubt that she'd call when she said she would. Did not happen. The representatives sound pleasant, but people do not follow through and getting to talk to anyone in charge is very difficult. Once you do, this particular supervisor, anyway, was nonresponsive. We have always been polite on the phone. Finally, I figured out the problem - the way their computer system figures things - another whole issue - on my own. The supervisor was supposed to call yesterday - didn't - and I am writing this today. FYI, people may also complain with the government department - "Ombudsman."

Last year, I asked Navient on the phone if it was okay to take units from two different colleges in order to become a half-time student. I was told that I could. I was not told that I would have to do some separate paperwork. I went them a message regarding this via email when I first received a request for payment. I did not receive a response. I called and was told I needed to go to one of the schools and request some paperwork, however, Navient was unable to send me anything written via snail mail to instruct me as to what the school needed to do and who to call if they weren't clear.
I have requested this written information via email several times. I am only told I need to call Navient. There is no record on my account of my attempts to settle this. I get called at least twice a day by Navient, however, the phone calls are automated and you can't speak to a real person. On the other hand, when I did speak to a real person, they could only give me verbal instructions and not give me a letter with written instructions. What I am asking for is really quite simple and reasonable.

I had a pretty large consolidated student loan with Navient, and while I have to say they have never given me any issues with applying my payments or customer service or anything like that, their predatory and very shady practices/lawsuits were really a deal breaker for me. I refuse to let them make anymore money off of me any longer and have since refinanced from a whopping 8.25% variable loan with these loan sharks to a 5.19% fixed loan through Charter One.
The whole process was very easy (on Charter One's end) and exactly what I hoped for. I HIGHLY recommend refinancing with them. They also don't have really strict income restrictions like some other companies such as SoFi and Earnest. They really pulled through for us and saved us from the absolute hell known as Navient. Do yourself a favor and try to refinance if you can with someone who actually wants you to be successful in paying off your student loans and not just scamming you. Hahaha Navient, you lose. If you weren't such shady/greedy people you'd still have my business. HA!

I got nowhere with Sallie Mae/Navient: I had complained about my borrowing $9000.00 to finish my degree. The school told me that my only choice was a Signature Loan through Sallie Mae, not knowing that it was the same as a Personal Loan. I later placed everything on hold to finish my Master’s degree. Sallie Mae allowed me to do so also. Once I began to pay I noticed that my $9000.000 loan had grown to a $29000.00 loan and that was over a period of 15 months. That's when I started looking into things with Sallie Mae. I agreed to a low interest loan payment so that I wouldn't default. I was told that 3 months of on time payments and on the 4th payment 0.01% would go toward my principal amount. So after paying for 1 1/2 years I decided to call and asked how much had I paid down towards my principal and was told none, that I had only been paying interest.
I told them that I wouldn't pay another dime until someone could tell me where my money was going. Then again this year they tried the same thing. I made the first payment and asked to have the loan paperwork forwarded to me, I never received anything. They called about my next payment. I asked them "where are my loan docs and then you will receive my payment, because you have done this to me once before." A manager then got on the phone as was snotty and rude and I just said "you'll be hearing from me soon." That's when I decided to contact the White House and they actually responded to me to let me know that they had forwarded it to the appropriate department.
They forwarded it to The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and they took my information and started the review with Navient because Sallie Mae said that they knew nothing about it. So everyone with a dispute with Sallie Mae or Navient (their new name) please forward your inquiries to the company also. This way they can compile enough inquiries and disputes regarding this company and hopefully change ours and everyone else's complaint to better us the consumers. And please pass this on.

It's been time and time again that this company has disappointed me. I was finally able to resolve their consistent denials of my loan forgiveness this year after 3 years of trying. I decided it was time I consolidate the 4 loans I have with them so that I could just make one lump sum payment and somewhat of a smaller monthly payment to make life a bit easier. Well, I just received two letters from them, one stating the actual amount that I should be charged and another that says I owe what I originally took out from them! This happens to reflect on my account as of right now. That means all the money I have paid these past few years have all been wiped away???
It is now almost 1 am and it's extremely upsetting that I had to find out just a few minutes ago. It's bothering me and I really can't sleep until this is resolved. It'll have to wait until tomorrow but I really wanted to voice my complaint about this company. I make extra payments when I can, but I'm still accruing interest on amount paid toward principal, because they advance my extra payments to future regular payments. So if I make an extra $100 payment (in addition to my monthly payment), they hold it rather than applying it to principal. Then they apply that $100 to the next payment. So they are in effect charging me interest on that $100 twice (the original month, and the month they didn't apply it to principal). I contact Navient repeatedly, stating, "do not advance my extra payments, apply all extra payments to principal." I then receive an auto-generated email telling me how they apply payments, and if I don't want them to advance payments, to please contact them. I have contacted them in writing and verbally repeatedly, for both my Education and Federal loans.
For my federal loans I had paid so much extra that they had advanced my payments so that I was 4 months ahead on my payments, funds they were holding on to rather than applying to principal while still charging me interest. What institutions do with money they are holding on to money is earn interest on that money. So let's say they hold that $100 for 4 months, they're earning interest on it for 4 months (by other means), additionally because they are not applying it to principal, they are also charging me interest. This is double dipping. Speaking with customer service is a joke, because they are telling me how interest is accrued. I know how interest is accrued. They do not understand the problem, and I have to be persistent to get the problem resolved.

Please visit Navient.com to review your account and make a payment today. Or, mail your payment to the address below: PO BOX 9533, WILKES-BARRE, PA 18773-9533. *Please write your account number on the check or money order.
If you are having difficulty making monthly payments, please contact us to discuss alternative repayment plans. You may be eligible for a repayment program, like Income Driven Repayment (IDR), that makes your student loan debt more manageable by reducing monthly payment amount. Or, we may be able to temporarily postpone your monthly payment if you qualify for a deferment or forbearance."

He asked me what the purpose was of my call and I explained to him that I am unsure as to why I am receiving these e-mails as I do not have any association with this company. He went silent for a few minutes, then told me that there was no match for my phone number in his system. He then told me that the only way that he could pull me up was if I gave him my full social security number. I told him that I was not comfortable giving that information out because I don't know who this company is. He proceeded to tell me that the ONLY way he could look me up was by my FULL social security number.
I then explained to him that I was NOT giving my social. He said nothing more than, "I understand" and hung up the phone. I was NOT rude to him, so I'm not sure why he was frustrated with me unless his intentions were unethical. I do not know who this company is and I will not give them any of my personal information. I found it odd that they could not use my name or date of birth or last 4 of my social to look up my 'account'. I have had student loans in the past while going to school at DeVry University. There is no way I can make this new payment and I was told my only option is default?! I just want someone to work with me. I want to pay my loans, I want to do it on time.

10.25% interest is loan sharking students. I hope the owner of this corporation loses sleep at night for making it difficult for the future of America to educate themselves. Please for your own well being never take a loan from this lender. The customer service representative told me it was my fault for taking a loan. I have never spoke with somebody so rude.

I have two loans with Sallie Mae, one federal & one private. I've been submitting payments through my bank for a year and a half. Now that Navient has taken over my loans, i keep getting late notifications because they have been applying payments to the wrong account. I called once and the one representative said she will get it reversed. That never happen. I keep paying and my payments are not being allocated correctly and they keep saying I have never made any payments.
So after two and a half months and paying THREE TIMES the balance due amount, I call a third time and the best option they could give me is that I need to add my 13-digit account number and they wanted me to pay the balance over the phone, which was not the amount I just saw online that same morning. I told the rep that I didn't trust them to take my payment over the phone, and to send me a payment invoice. Never received an invoice. I made the payment on their site, and two weeks later I tested out what the rep suggest and sent a small payment. Once again payment applied incorrectly...

My account was with Sallie Mae, reasonably easy to deal with. It was switched to Navient (not my choice) and everything has gone to hell in a hand basket. I filed an unemployment deferment. It should have been for a minimum of 6 months. They requested a month later that I provide proof of benefits. I did. Months later I find out they charged me a late fee after I filed for the month between filing and their request for proof, that they ended my deferment with the last date of benefits I provided (although I continued to receive benefits), that they failed to properly notify me in writing of any changes made and that they continued to look for ways to charge late fees.
They are absolutely the worst to work with, and their processes are so cumbersome as to incur additional charges unintentionally. I've read the other comments, and they clearly exist only to generate late fees and mistreat customers. I had so many calls from them that I finally had to block their number to get some peace. If I tell you on Monday, and on Tuesday, and on Wednesday that I am out of work, that I filed for forbearance, and that I cannot pay until I am working again, there is no need to call me Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to get the same message.

Every month I send my payment into Navient via mail so that way I have physical documentation of the payments I made. All of the sudden they claim they do not have the payment when I know I sent this payment. All of the sudden they want me to send the money order receipt, and this past month I misplaced it, and they are trying to take advantage. I don't want them to debit my bank account so what I will do now is continue to pay through the mail and if they don't receive it, they don't receive it period.

I am currently 7.5 months pregnant and I've been out of work on FMLA due to pregnancy complications. I am behind on my school loan. Navient knows my circumstances and harasses me day and night, all hours of the day. When I have a customer service representative on the line, that person has always been condescending, without fail. I had Navient take out 500.00 out of my checking account on November 25, 2015. A customer service representative proceeded to call me today and continue harassment. I told the lady I made a 500.00 payment 3 days ago, and the continued harassment is unreasonable. I told the lady to put off these calls for a couple of weeks, that is when I get paid again. Her reply? "You are the one that cannot pay your student loans."
After the most recent statement, combined with 7 months' worth of statements just like it, I finally said something about it. This company is brutal! How is the treatment listed above even allowed? I work for a call center, that would have been an automatic termination at my company. It makes me wonder if the company has any protocol or guidelines at all. It appears they pull people off of the street, without any background check or training.

For some reason people have this false understanding that late college loan payments don't affect your credit... THEY ARE WRONG. I WAS WRONG. I had Sallie Mae for about 5 years and then it became Navient. Despite making monthly payments for the past three months they continue to update my credit rating stating "payments past due". DON'T LISTEN TO WHAT ANYONE SAYS. Late payments for school loans will ruin your life. I checked my credit rating on Kredit Karma and out of a potential 251 payments (to various accounts, car loan, credit card, Navient etc) I was late on 12. All 12 were for Navient and all 12 times it was reported to credit bureau or whatever. ** My Life. Thanks!

Hello everyone my name is Jack and I do not have any business with Navient but my wife does. Long story short, not only we thought this was paid but one year after we paid this them loan they send my wife a bill that she had a balance of $454 and that she was past due 3 months. Since I'm in the business of credit card and credit reporting. I know how this works, but here is the crazy part about my complaint. I made a final payment to this people, not only you get to talk to people in the (Philippines) only but the gentlemen who took my payment over the phone, I know he is responsible for my credit card info been used today 11/20/2015, just got an email from my credit card comp, confirming my transaction that took place in **New York** which I'm here in CALIFORNIA...
The funny part is I never used my Bank of America Card online or at the stores. I only used it for **balance transfers** and what a coincidence 10 days after I gave this people my credit card info, it gets used somewhere else where I never been before... So I can assure you guys out there if you're paying with credit card be careful. This people in the Philippines are thieves. They will use your info and possibly sell your info to someone in the United States... BE CAREFUL WITH THIS COMPANY. NAVIENT IS A SCAM. I CANT BELIEVE THIS ** LMAO

The employee at Navient talked to me in a belittling way. If I wasn't able to pay my loans due to certain reasons there is no reason to talk to someone like they are a child. This employee seem to be upset with me about MY payments on MY student loan, that I owe, like the money was coming out of his pay. After a certain amount of time he then decided to go and get his manager, which he should have done in the beginning. This employee could really benefit from some training on dealing with customers. Just because you call people for payment on loans doesn't mean you can just talk to them any kind of way, Mr. Nick **. How do you expect someone to respond to you or even want your help when they are spoken to in such a manner? Also, it doesn't matter how you feel or what you think as an employee. There are policies in place when it comes to dealing with customers.

So, I get an automated email from Navient stating that I need to check my account. I checked my email and noticed Im two months late and charged fees. Im thinking this cannot be true, Im a full time student in Grad school. I called customer service in which I despise doing because I receive a different answer each time. After speaking with customer service and explaining to them that I was a full-time student, I was told that they didnt receive the information from the school. So, I explained to them that should not be the case since my Federal loan holders received the information. "Have you checked the data base?" I asked! They said there is nothing they can do. Im at the point where I cannot argue and fight with these guys any longer. My credit is good at this point, but enough is enough.

Make no mistake about it; suit will be filed against your corporation and each of you individually. The days of screwing people over while feeding at the trough of the United States government are over. Each of you, in some manner is responsible jointly and severally for the current state of student loan debt in this country. Under the corporate direction of Messrs. **, ** and **, each of their underlings have committed one of the following several actions for which suit may be brought in Texas:
1) Specifically lying to me about the payments due and the amounts due on the student loans that I am paying for my daughter. 2) Defrauding and attempting to defraud me regarding said student loans by making material misrepresentations about who you are and the current status of my loans. 3) Abusing phone calling and robocalls have been made after I corresponded with you regarding my loans. 4) Failure to respond in any way in writing to written correspondence. The stated reason was so that the responses would not be on the record. 5) Theft and/or conversion of any and all funds paid against these loans and then falsifying that the payments were due.
6) Failure to provide truthful and accurate and correct loan payment information on loans due. This is a by product of the failure to train your people adequately, or, in the alternative, failure on your part to understand the loans you are servicing in the first place. 7) Specific material misrepresentation on loan amounts within the same month. 8) Violations, willful and knowing, of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act of Texas. 9) Failure to properly provide identification upon request of who is calling, where they are calling from and how to reach them back directly if necessary. Instead, you make every debtor re-invent the wheel and waste time by trying to explain to incompetent customer service people and those incompetent people provide false, incorrect answers to and just flatly lying to debtors.
You will note that no claims of FCRA or FDCPA violations are being made. Why you might ask? The answer is because this is a State case. Each and every one of you will have the pleasure of coming to Dallas and providing depositions and participating in this litigation. I assure you the winters are not as bad here as they are there but the summers can be brutal.
I have had numerous problems with your idiot people who have no answers, no reasoning, no ability, no understanding and no basic general knowledge of what is going on with these loans. If you go onto the internet, you will find that half of the people involved have retail jobs or sandwich shop jobs in addition to this job and/ or have a long history of menial jobs that was inappropriate for the jobs they have now. Therefore, it will be a demand of this lawsuit that those people find new career paths.
Lest you doubt my veracity, I have found Mr. ** is on the boards of some charitable organizations, namely Reading is fundamental and The Xaverian Brothers High School. He also donates to numerous Republican causes. Your stock is also traded on the NASDAQ. I plan to notify each of these organizations or candidates and provide them evidence of his continuing to foster fraudulent and possibly criminal behavior in his work organization and that they might want to reconsider his participation on their boards or the acceptance of his contributions. As I research each of you, I will do the same to you. The internet is such a great tool.
I am also going to ask the NASDAQ to suspend trading in your stock until a forensic audit can be performed to confirm the level of fraud for which your company is guilty. I may even file an involuntary petition in the United States Bankruptcy Court so a receiver may be appointed to determine the level of fraud involved. Think Enron. Demands, you might ask. None until I file suit then the demands will be included.

I received a telephone call tonight from a woman in NY who stated she received a consolidation packet of MY HUSBAND at her house today. I also received a packet from Navient today and, lo and behold, I have her consolidation packet. Thanks to the incompetence of the Navient staff that handles this correspondence, this woman and I are now in possession of each other's SS#, DOB, name, address, and personal reference info. I called the Navient #888-272-5543 and spoke with "Avie" who gave me the #800-891-1391 for the Fraud Dept. When I called, it's a non-working number. I will be contacting news media and higher authorities who deal with identity theft to make them aware of this mistake.

Navient is the worst!!! I have had so many lost payments and payments that were not applied correctly. I emailed them asking where 4 payments, yes 4 payments, have not been applied to the acct. They said they did not get them and to send in copies of checks and I have been thru this with them many times. It is a nightmare! Believe it or not 3 of the 4 payments were credited the next day. Navient did ACH withdrawal on the checks and one of the checks had crossed out my acct# and put another acct# on it!
I sent in all payments with the acct# and the primary's name on each loan payment and I printed the loan summary from each loan and sent with payment and sent it to the correct address. I checked my acct and looked at the copies of the checks and one of the checks they crossed off my acct# and wrote another acct# on the check. I also have a recorded message from a rep from Navient. He did not know he was on voicemail. I did not answer his call and he was saying how payments were posted on different days and the system is messed up. Even the customer service reps admit it! They need to be shut down!
