As a customer of Bank of America for a number of years, I was appalled that our interest rate was raised without a reason. When I contacted them today, they wouldn't tell me why it was raised and why our credit limit was lowered, just that a letter would go out explaining why they made this decision. I'm sickened that my payment has almost doubled and we've never been late and always pay more than the minimum. What recourse do I have? I even asked them if I closed the account if the interest rate would at least stay the same, and they lied and told me they can even raise the interest rate if the account is closed. This is absolute BS. I'm really angry.

I accepted a debt consolidation loan through AAA that was funded by Bank of America. The payment date was not great for my pay cycle which is on the 15th and last day of the month. When I was paid, I checked online and it said that no payment was due. So the next time I got paid, I checked again and it was past due, so I paid double the payment. I checked the next time I got paid; it said no payment due. The next time I got paid, it was the same scenario. I requested a change to my payment date that was more in line with my pay schedule and was denied. This kept occurring and the fees were racking up. I canceled the account and put it on Auto-pay. I noticed the amount of the auto-payment went through the roof and came to find out that they had increased my interest rate to 27%!!! After I closed the account, I could not use it anymore, and had my payment auto paid, THEN they increased the interest rate. When I called to request that they lower my rate, I was told they could not lower it and I should have read the fine print!!

I have never been late on ANY credit card payments with BofA and I have a balance of $5,000 which I tried to get them to lower my payments. They've been charging 24.99% interest!!! I've been making $170.00 payments each month and only $50 goes toward that payment! I asked them to please lower it as I have lost some work income and they said NO! To top it off, they sent me a letter saying they've closed my credit account and to cut up my credit card!!! I've NEVER been late and actually a year ago, I had almost had it paid off!

I'm pissed and I think this company is ripping people off! Especially since our economy is suffering so dearly right now! I also have a credit card with Citi and they are actually dropping our interest rates due to the economy. Bank of America, you don't deserve to be in business... greed is unforgivable!!!

I recently came off a low promotional rate on my BOA card and it reverted to a very high rate of 25.99%. This would make it our highest rate credit card and I had heard you can get that reduced by calling up, especially if you have a good payment record. The first time I tried to phone BOA, however, the customer representative improbably named Krystal ** simply hung up on me when she heard what I was calling about.

Today I made a second attempt and spoke to another lady, who asked me a lot of questions about me and my husband's income. This new lady described my record of paying $100-$200 above the minimum each month as minimum payments, and berated me for having a bad debt to income ratio even though my husband and I combine incomes (he makes $100K/year). It was a friendly enough conversation until she suddenly announced she was cutting my limit from $15K to $5K (just above the current and shrinking balance). She didn't seem to mind at all that she was basically punishing me for calling in, despite being a good customer since 1998. She gave my debt to income ratio as her reason.

I had a $5500 balance on my US Airways Visa card which they had lowered the interest rate to 10.99% several years ago. I missed one payment and now the interest rate is 27.99%. This is so despicable, I cannot even use civil words. Theft. My credit rating is nearly 800, one missed payment causes this, and the lackey on the phone says that this will be the interest rate for 6 months! No. Will not happen.

This bank is a discrace. I have been a good customer for 5 years and they hiked my rate, causing my payment to jump $200.00 per month. No lates, excellent credit, and they refuse to work with me. This is the same bank that took billions of dollars from taxpayers. What is even more appalling is that when I read an article on MSN, Betty Riess of BofA had this to say: "Our objective is to help customers who are experiencing financial hardship," said Betty Riess, a Bank of America spokeswoman. "If a customer cannot afford to make regular payments or falls behind on an account, our customer-assistance department proactively reaches out to them." WHAT a joke!

At the end of December 2008, I received my Bank of America credit card statement. The payment due date was 1/1/09. This statement was delayed in getting to me. Whether it was the holidays, mail mix-up, I just don't know. At this point, there was not sufficient time to attempt to mail in my payment. I called the 1-800 number on my statement to make the payment by phone. I was told by a live person that the system was down and they were only taking information if you had a lost or stolen card. I was told to try back at a later time.

I then called in on 1/1/09, the day my payment was due. I was able to process my payment through the automated system. Well, with it being on New Year's Day, my payment did not post until 1/2/09. Now granted, it was received on it's due date. Therefore, I was charged a late fee. My 0% APR was taken off & I now had finance charges on my next statement, and of course, the $15 pay by phone fee I had to pay due to receiving the statement late.

So on 1/26/09, I called and spoke to a woman at Bank of America Customer Service. She was very understanding of the situation and agreed to reinstate the 0% APR, credit the finance charge, and credit the late fee. I was told that she was having a supervisor credit the full late fee because she was manually only able to remove half. Now this is how a valued customer should be handled, right? So I thought!

My next statement arrives. To my surprise, not one adjustment was made on my account. Getting hit once again with finance charges because the 0% promotional APR is removed. So I call again on 2/23/09. Greeted by a gentleman who puts me on hold for a few moments to review the account notes from when I called in last time. Boy, what another surprise when he says there are no notes of anything supposed to be adjusted on my account. (So he says).

I asked him then to tell me what notes are on the account as to what I spoke to the woman previously about. He would offer me no information & obviously, someone dropped the ball. I guess when I called in on 1/26/09 we listened to each other breathe for 20 minutes. On top of that, he insulted me & told me the automated service was never down at any point. He said that I called the wrong number. Well, I think he should have verified that before attempting to call me out. Back to square 1 I was & this gentleman was being very arrogant & rude.

He finally agreed to reinstate the 0% APR & remove the finance charges, but would only credit me 1/2 of the late fee. It amazes me how they treat Valued Customers. He refused to remove the full late fee after I was told previously it would be done. I was told that if I did not accept half credit, he would credit nothing! I also spoke to a Sr. Account Manager on the issue who was just as unwilling to accommodate me and who acted as if he could care less about the situation.

Now, whether any of these adjustments get corrected, it is a waiting game. Not one apology was ever made to me for their representative dropping the ball and not correcting this issue. I have never been late making a payment & I always pay well over the minimum. This was the first time I had to personally deal with this bank on an issue & what a shame to have such poor customer service!

I have had serious problems with Bank of America credit card online payments. On Jan. 11, 2009, they removed $1,061 from my checking account. On Jan. 15th, 2009, they removed another $1,061 and on Feb. 11, 2009, they removed over $2,000. So in a three-week time period, they took out of my checking account over $4,000. This isn't the first time they did this. They had to reimburse me twice for removing money that was not scheduled, once for $3,800 and another time for $1,579. I called and they were rude and told me that it was my fault, so I removed the auto pay and will pay the stone age way via check in the mail.

But they don't realize what kind of problems they have caused me with my checking account and they really don't care. All they want to do is argue and make the consumer feel like they have done everything wrong. I pay all my bills online and I don't have problems with anyone else, but Bank of America. Each time I have had the problems, I would call them, spend countless minutes on the phone and each time, they reported that they solved the problem only to have it reoccur again and again.

Interest rate jumped from 13.99% to 27.99%. I was told they sent us a letter, in which we never received, saying that we didn't have to have rate increase if we responded. I called and was told this info when trying to lower the outrageous rate. They were rude and no chance of speaking to a manager. I think this should be illegal. Who in their right mind will say YES to a rate increase like that??? Sounds like a criminal scam because they are trying to cover up for bad deal THEY did. We were not late on the card payments and were treated so poorly. I was told there was nothing they could do!

I am looking for some kind of legal advice. I am tired of corporations in America getting away with crimes that are far worse than what some petty thieves are in jail for right now! I will no longer be a matte and see this country fall to corporate greed. They are being allowed to do this while getting help from the government with my tax dollars. I would like to see justice and seek damages.

In September of 2008, I requested a new card to Bank of America due to burglary that took place in my house. They took my information and request and asked if I would like to enroll in the Credit Protection Plus plan. I DECLINED and said NO. About a month later, I got a letter congratulating me for enrollment into the Credit Protection Plus plan and a charge on my Bank of America card for $65.63. I called Bank of America right away and they transferred me to Debt Protection Plan dept. I spoke to the representative and explained the situation. He claimed that he would cancel the plan right away. By following month, I still did not see the credit back. I called back and spoke to a representative named NATE. He claimed that they canceled my plan which was never authorized but never requested for a refund. He claimed that it would take two billing cycles to get the credit back. It is now February 2009 and I received my statement which still does not show any credit of $65.63.

I contacted Bank of America to lower my interest rate on a card. I have excellent credit and have had several cards with them for many years and have always abided by the credit card guidelines. They offered me a better card with a lower rate and said I was immediately approved. So I cancelled my existing card and shredded it. They said my new card would be in the mail shortly. After 2 weeks, I followed up with them after noticing that I never received the new card they claimed I was approved for.

After speaking to the rep, he said it was still in processing; I should receive it in 1 week. That time passed and I called again where they claimed I was denied due to high debt ratios. I informed them that when I initially called them, I was the one that was cancelling my card with them and they were the ones that convinced me to just get a better card with them that I was immediately approved. I told them that I did not want them pulling my credit so as to not lower my score with inquiries and that unless they could offer me 0% better rate for 1 year, I did not want their cards. So subsequently, they did pull my credit report causing an inquiry plus, in turn, they cancelled my existing card plus denied the replacement card in which I never wanted in the first place and further damaging my credit report which now shows a denial of credit plus a cancellation by the credit company which is false. I am demanding that they correct my credit report information with the truth that I requested to cancel my card with them.

BofA just raised our credit card rate from 9% to 30%. We have never ever been late. Payment was due on Sunday 2/8/09. I went in at a local branch and paid it on Monday, 2/9/09. I did not think it would be a problem since due date did not fall on a business day. They raised all my three credit card rates because I did not make that one payment on Sunday. They are rude and condescending!

I am a 34-year old woman who has worked very hard over the years to keep my credit in good standing and have a 730+ credit score. I pay my bills and mortgage each month, and have had no problems at all until recently. I made two mental mistakes with regards to paying BofA. I underpaid a minimum due by $31 and the following month, I did not notice the minimum payment had changed and I paid my standard amount which resulted in a default rate of 28% being applied to a $20,000 balance. On another BofA account, I had a $3,800 balance with a $16,500 limit and on a third account BofA took over from Juniper, I had a zero balance with a $12,400 limit.

In the month, that I underpaid the minimum due, I had paid off one of my BofA cards in full (over 800) so it wasn't about not having the money to pay. When I called BofA for help, their credit dept proceeded to tell me that they could not do anything and by the way, I don't make enough money. "How can I afford to eat?" were the credit analyst's exact words. Then he proceeded to tell me that BofA was lowering my credit lines on all accounts and actually closing the zero balance one. I was shocked. I consider myself one of the good guys, pay my mortgage, pay my bills, and am just so angry that BofA is more than happy to take my 28% interest each month even though in their opinion "I can't afford to eat".

I called in again to try one more time and I got the same answer. Luckily, I have a good job and with a recent bonus, I will be paying off that debt with BofA today and I will never use them again for anything. When they start to send me offers, I will send them a form letter reminding them how they "helped" me in 2009 and that they will never get my business. My tax dollars are going to support these jerks and I hate feeling that there is nothing that I can do about it. Sad but true, the little people don't matter to big business.

I called and asked if I could have lower interest rates on my credit card because I have been a paying customer - on time always - for 8 years. I read an article that said you could request lower interest rates if you are a good customer. Anyway, they cancelled me without telling me! I called to find out what was wrong with my credit card and they said my debt-to-income-ratio justified it! I never made a late payment in the last 8 years. I have a car loan with them and it ends this month - six years with no late payments!

I have had a BoA credit card for almost a decade and a debt reduction account with BoA through my union for a little over 5 years. I have always followed all the BoA rules regarding credit limits, on time payments, paying much more than the minimum, etc. Further, I have never abused my credit with any card that I have. My credit score was in the 700s at the time. Recently, out of the blue, BoA raised my interest rate 10%. I must have missed that little info paper they stuff in their mailings. Anyway, I called to ask why and to see if we could negotiate something much lower. I was handed over to a supervisor. She was rude, condescending, and preachy. She proceeded to lecture me on aggressive payments, responsibility, the economy, and continued by suggesting that I needed counseling. She said my debt ratio was too high.

After working with another bank the same day, RBS (who lowered my interest 10%), I was very surprised at this supervisor's action. She then subsequently told me that she was lowering my credit limits on both accounts saying, "I have this conversation with many people like you. This is the way it is, good luck and have a nice day." After getting bailed out, this arrogant rapist of a bank has the audacity to do this to working people? Everyone should be inundating their senators' phones regarding the practices and operating procedures of this bank. After all, it was Congress that let them get away with all these we couldn't care less about the people policies. And before the new regulatory law takes effect in 2010, they are doing it to anyone that they can.

In May 2007, I received a letter that my credit card payment would increase to $132.00 in June ‘07. I called the bank, asked why. I was told that a couple of payments had been made after the due date. I replied that I had made my payments a few times on the day it was due but called in a direct transfer to a customer service person that said my payment would not be late. Nonetheless, I could not afford an increase as I was in financial hardship. I am a single father of 2 and was not working, and I only received a V.A. check for $115.00 a month. That was the amount I put toward my credit payment. I had no other income.

I asked if something could be done to lower my payment or the interest so I could continue paying $115.00 a month before the next payment with increase was due. I was told no. I asked why and was told there was nothing they could do. I then decided to go online and submit the request to customer service to lower my payment by $17.00 or my interest that I could not afford the higher payment. I emailed 4 times and the reply was no. On June 6, ’07, I made a payment of $115.00. On June 16, I got a letter from the bank stating a payment oversight. I called again to explain my situation and that I had tried to make some arrangements 30 days prior to the payment increase in good faith. Again, I was told nothing could be done and now I was being charged late fees. I called and emailed the bank again with no results.

In July, I called and asked for the late fees to be removed and my payment lowered. Again the answer was no. I replied that I would not make the payment until someone worked with me because now my payments would be paying fees for the remaining $17.00 and late fees even though I had tried to work with the bank. In late July, a lady called me from the bank about late fees and missed payment totaling $230.00. I explained how I had tried since May to work something out with my payments and my financial situation. At that time, this person agreed to try and help me. I was placed on hold. After a while she came back and said a program was available but I needed $100.00 available to start. I was told to call card services when I had the money. I asked the lady why this information was not given to me over the last 2 months. She had no answer herself.

On August 7, I called card services in reference to the program as I had the $100.00. At that time I was told I would be on a Hardship Payment Program and my payments would be $90.00 a month and my interest was 2%. This program required payments be automatically withdrawn from my account monthly. I was told my late fees etc. were some $500. I disagreed with the details that led up to the day. The lady on the line said she would try and work with me and I agreed. What was worked out my payments would be $90 a month for my credit card and an additional $10 towards late fees of $230.00 and my payment would be taken from my checking monthly on the 4th starting September 4th, 2007. I would be on the program, and I needed to pay $100 towards the program that day.

I agreed and the $100 was withdrawn from my checking on August 7, 2007. I was told that I should receive a letter of acceptance to the program soon. On September 4th, 2007, according to my statement, my payment was taken from my account. On September 12, 2007, I received a letter from card services that I was 3 payments past due and my credit history may be adversely affected. I needed to contact the bank also a variety of programs were available to help me? I must call by the end of the month to accept an offer? I have these letters.

I called the number given to Customer Assistance Dept. I told them that I was already on a program, and I had made 2 payments since August 7, ‘07. I was placed on hold and when the operator returned, I was told that there had been some mix up and the paperwork on me had not been turned in for the program? I said that was not my concern that I was told I was on the program and I have had 2 payments taken from my account to prove it. Again on hold when the lady returned she said she was going to get it worked out but asked if I could make a payment of $48.00 to bring my account to good standing by the end of September? I informed her that I had no means of coming up with the money and explained my situation. I was asked to try. I said I did not understand why I needed to pay more when I have already paid my payments? Again, this lady said just try if possible and ended the call.

On September 17, I received the acceptance letter to the Special Repayment Program explaining my monthly payment of $90.00 and my 2% interest rate for new and existing balances. My late fees would be $0.00 In addition to the temporary change described above; over-limit fees are waived until further notice. The program lasts 60 months. Having received this letter I was relieved that my payments were all setup and my account would be in decent shape. I called the next month and my payment had been deducted per the automated computer.

November, I received a letter about my payment being late. I called and an operator said my payment was taken out. I didn't check again. In February 2008, I got a letter of no payments. I called to see what the problem was. At that time, the bank said my account was overdrawn. I said no, I should have a positive balance of at least $100.00. I had not used my checking since September ‘07 and the purchase was $8.00. The only activity was my V.A. deposit each month and my $100.00 payment for the last 5 months.

I went to the bank and got print outs of my account. The problem was on 10-01-07, $48.00 withdrawn from my account. I told the bank I did not use any such amount. I was told there was an authorized withdrawal for $48.00. I wanted to know how this money was taken. I had not used my ATM card and that is how I used this account. I did not possess any checks nor had I withdrawn the cash. I was told it was a department transfer to Credit Services. That is when I remembered this lady asking if I could pay $48.00. I informed the bank I had not given any permission for a withdrawal. That money being taken from my account caused it to be overdrawn.

When I called the bank in November ’07, the operator said my payment had been deducted, but nothing about an overdraw. It led me to think my account was okay. I made several calls to Bank of America both to card services and checking customer service about this. Checking was told by Card Services that I authorized the withdrawal so nothing would be done. I started receiving 2 calls a day for payments to my credit card and for the overdraft and penalty charges on my checking account. I lost out on 6 months of payments and the balance of my V.A. check that was supposed to in my checking account.

On February 27, ’08, I spoke to representative named Joey that listened to my version of this ongoing problem. He asked me to send copies of my statements and my acceptance letter to the program. When he received them, he would investigate. I did and Joey called me a couple days later. He tracked down and confirmed what I had been saying to be true. The mistake was not my fault and he was going to try and get all this straight and refund all monies back to my account I had been charged on the credit card end. He explained I would have to go to my local branch for charges received on my checking account. All I needed to do was show them the reversed charges on my credit card and the money that Joey was going to credit back to my checking account for the unauthorized withdrawal of $48.00 and the initial overdrafts and fees. That would prove no error on my part. Then checking should credit back all the charges to my checking account for the previous 6 months; Joey estimated I would receive $352.00 from Card Services to my checking.

I asked him what about the now - six payments that had not been made to my credit card. Joey said though it was not my fault, according to the computer records, I was still behind but it would take a billing cycle or 2 to get straightened out. When I received all the credits due back, I could pay the back payments; but until then, he would clear any late or penalty charges that accrued. I explained until my checking account was credited, I had no other money to make payments. I asked if he could do something about the call I'd be getting that same afternoon. Joey told me I will keep being called, it was computer generated.

Within a week, I would have the credit back from him for $352.00 Later the same day, a lady named Antonette called and said she was a supervisor of Joey and had read his remarks on the account and what had happened to date. Antonette had gone over the charges and confirmed the amount that I should be receiving was $352.00, and I should now refer to her about this. Her number was **. If I had any problems from then on, she would help me and apologized for my troubles to date. Two days later, on 2-29-08, a Francisco called me and said there were some adjustments to the amount I would receive. The new figure was $278.00. It included the $48.00 taken from my account, but he had removed a new charge of $117.00 from my credit card that had been placed for fees. I should have the money that day or the next.

March 1st, my V.A. check is in my account but the account is still overdrawn. What would be my 6th payment to the program is not made. 3-5-08, my checking account is credited with my $48.00 taken Sept ‘07 and $125.00 more? On that day, if all this had not happened my checking balance should have been +$108.87 and 6 payments made to the program. On 3-6-08, I was called about my payment? I replied to date I was minus $600.00 in payments through no fault of my own. I was told by 2 BofA employees I'd receive $352.00 credit to my account and my branch should then refund the past charges from them!

Regardless, I should have 6 payments to my credit and a + 108.87 in my account. Instead, I had $223.75 bal. that included my $48.00 and was overdue 6 payments. All my branch did was remove overdraft fees for the previous 90 days. That is how I had the $223.00 balance. My branch told me any other money I was out would have to come from Credit Services. I was still asked for payment. I made a $90.00 payment on 3-6-08. On 3-7-08, a Cathleen ** called me and even though I lost out on the prior 6 months of my V.A. check that wasn't my fault, I needed to pay another $50.00 to be kept on the payment program. On 3-26-08 I was told I had to make another $90.00 payment. I made that payment.

On 4-6-08, I made another $90.00 payment and Bank of America informed me I was still overdue $486.00. I cancelled my direct deposit from the V.A. The bank started charging me a service fee on my checking account that I hadn't written a check with since 2004. I cancelled my checking account in April ‘08. I pay my account every month by the 7th. To date, I have not been excused for the late payments to the program and considered 3 or 4 payments behind. I have very good credit history and have had for many years. My payments are always mailed well in advance of the due date as I don't want to incur a late fee or bad credit. I always pay more than the minimum amount due in order to pay down the debt. I don't miss credit card payments... ever. Why am I so diligent in terms of my payment behavior? It's because I want to not only maintain good credit history but also to maintain a low interest rate on credit cards.

Unfortunately, the interest rate on my credit cards actually doubled since my January 2009 statement. Bank of America credit card went from 6.50% to 11.49%. Citi Card increased the current rate from 7.24% to 14.99%. Now that every citizen has bailed out these financial institutions, they want even more of our money... phuleeze! I have contacted the State Attorney General's office and have filed separate complaints for each company. I will also send a follow-up letter to my state senator.

This behavior by the credit card companies has to stop. It is offensive for someone like me, who has worked very hard to maintain good credit history, to be dealing with these rate hikes. If the new administration is determined to make changes, credit card companies should be at the top of the list. The time has come to rein them in and to regulate such behavior.

Two of the cards were originally from MBNA and the other was a Fifth Third Bank. We are in the group of people that are financially strained and we are trying so hard to keep our credit clean (never had late payments). We had used up all the credit on these cards (and others) because of medical bills and losing jobs, etc. My husband even spoke to the corporate office of Bank of America, and it just didn't matter: The answer was the same as all the other representatives he spoke to: “Sorry, there's really nothing we can do.”

I have been a loyal customer of BOA since 2002. I never missed a payment - always paid much more than was due. Several weeks ago, I got a letter saying they were raising my interest from 11% to 26% because I owed too much debt. I am self-employed. Due to the bad economy, I did not get several contracts that would have helped me pay off my bills. Since my house had been devalued, and my debt-ratio did not look good on paper, I could not even get a loan. Like a lot of people, I have been living on credit cards, but since I am self-employed, I can pick up a lot of small sides on the side.

I have been working like crazy doing those small jobs just to keep my credit in good standing until the economy turns around and my business comes back. BOA told me they would lower my interest rate back to 11% but I would have to close my account. That ruined my credit, and two other cards have now restricted or closed my accounts - Citi and Chase. My only option now is to declare bankruptcy and all because of BOA! This is just not fair. At least they were getting their money, and all on time - now they will get nothing, and I am ruined. It doesn't make sense. Where are our leaders? - Taking care of banks!

My husband Stephen has two Bank of America credit card accounts. One is a MasterCard (which used to be MBNA and bought out by BOA), and a BOA Visa. Two years ago, he went through a very nasty and expensive divorce and he placed all legal fees on his BOA MasterCard. He had a high credit limit of $49,800 on MasterCard and $13,500 on Visa from 2004 through Sept 2007. We paid down $33,999.46 on the MasterCard. Immediately the next month, our credit limit was reduced from $49,800 to $35,000. They claimed they reduced because we were not using the credit. They also reduced our Visa from $13,500 to $5,000 for same reason.

So between both cards, we lost $23,300 in credit and assets which sent my husband's credit rating from over 800 to about 510! Then over the course of one year, the percentage rates and APR began creeping up. You cannot speak with these folks. I called and requested a reduction in rates; they cannot do. Also, when I requested the full name of the person I was speaking to, he told me but when I requested the correct spelling of his last name, he abruptly told me they were not required to do so. I am in the process of going through my statements back to onset of 2006 and recording the history and making a formal complaint to the Bank Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in Houston TX, (800) 613-6743, which is who rules over national banks like Bank of America and their practices.

Today, I used mine as credit at a big chain gas station, which normally takes two days to process. Fine, as I only do this night before payday. I did this morning and when I access my account this evening (don't trust BOA), I noted a $1 charge which is the first time I encountered this station. This same thing was done just two weeks ago by a company I did business with online using my card. They had never done this before. I am told this is a charge for checking your account. I asked if they could lower and they said no because they notified me (supposedly) 2 months ago of the new policies and changes they made for BOA credit cards customers. They did not increase the interest rate because of late payments or over limit. I have always maintained payments on-time and kept the card below its max limit. I have a business credit card with Bank of America. I have only used the card once. I used it to transfer another balance to this supposedly low interest card. I got trapped. I missed a month because of technical difficulties with the online payment system. The fees were rolling over into the next month for a year straight. The total amount of the loan was $8,000.00. Every month for a year I have been charged two interest fees (one for $150.00, one for $50.00), a late fee of $50.00 and an over-the-limit fee of $45.00.

I wasn’t aware that I was being charged these astronomical fees. I paid the card on time online. I feel the fees were hidden from me. They do not appear on the account when I pull it up online. Since I never used the card, I never pulled up the transaction part of the statement. I had no idea! The only way I found the fees was when I received an overdue bill of over $600.00. Since I had been paying the $250.00 bill every month, I couldn't figure out why the bill had gotten so high. That’s when I investigated and realized I had never caught up on the bill. The fact that the fees were rolling over was causing my payments to go to nothing. I have tried many times and have spent hours on the phone with the bank to get some of these unfair fees reversed. No one will help me. They just say that they have already reversed two fees, which is true, but the late payment was the fault of the bank’s website.

Complaints of breach of contract, harassment, intimidation and character defamation and their fraudulent schemes against Bank of America - I have their credit card in 2006. I have been making my payments on time, have never been late for one day and have never missed out any single payment. I have always paid more their minimum payment required. I have not exceeded my line of credit, yet Bank of America closed down my credit card without notice and my consent just because I requested that they reduce my high interest rate. When I opened the account on 2006, they offered me 10.99% fixed in interest rate and recently, I realized that they raised the interest rate to 19.99%. I am not sure when this change occurred but this is when I find out.

On Friday, January 2, 2009, around 8:30am, I called the bank, requesting that my interest rate be lowered. The agent that I spoke to asked me a lot of humiliating and embarrassing questions including but not limited to why was I asking for lower interest rate and if I was having financial difficulties. I did not answer that directly but responded that everybody including corporate companies have financial difficulties in America of today. He further asked me why my credit balance was high. I did explain to him that in the past, I have a part time job because I have a child with disability but now, my son resided in treatment facility and I have a full time job. I just needed my rate to be lowered so I can pay off the amount.

This agent whose name I did not remember offered me a 60-month pay off plan with the interest rate of 4% and minimum of $190 monthly. He stated in order to get that, they will need to close my account. I told him I was going to think about it over the weekend and get back to him on Monday. Over the weekend, I thought about I cannot afford to close the card that we currently buy our food from. On Monday, January 5 around 9 am, I called the bank and spoke to a credit analyst that called herself Michelle. I specifically advised her that I don't want to close my account. I will rather pay the high interest rate and leave my account open. This lady told me that I will have to pay down the credit balance of $10,175 in couple months. She intimidated me into accepting to pay $1,000 every month even though I know that I don’t have resources to make such payments just for them to leave my account open. She told me that they have reviewed my account and they are determined to close it no matter what I offer. She told me that as she was talking to me that she was closing down the account.

Next day, January 6, I called back. The account is completely closed. When I asked them their reason, they stated because I have a child with disability and work part time. They have used that part of information against me in bad faith. Meanwhile, they did not send me any letter to inform me about the closing. I was so upset that I wrote a letter via certified mail to their CEO Mr. Lewis and their President for card services, Amy Woods-Brinkly, challenging the reason for closing my account with documented evidence. As soon as Bank of America received my letter, they backdated the letter to January 6, changing and modifying their original reason for closing account, now generated to defame my character by saying this on their letter, and I quote, I owe sufficient amount of money on my revolving round of credit with other creditors. This in fact is not true and correct fact is this is the only credit card I have with a car loan which I pay diligently and on time and Chrysler testified to that. I also wrote a second letter to the people I mentioned above challenging that too with my full credit report.

Again, they tried to use a collection report in my credit reported by a service provider that tried to extort money out of me for the services they did not provide. Meanwhile, this report has been there before Bank of America issued me their credit card in 2006. How desperate. Upon all of these letters, they totally ignored me, closed down my account and still made me pay the interest rate of 19.99% with unnecessary adverse action against me just for asking for lower interest rate. Meanwhile, the so-called 60 months pay off plan, they it threw out window and never gave it to me, even though I know that they probably made it on paper and sent out to the federal government as part of their statistics for people they helped and yet closed down my account and stuck their high interest rate on me. I am sure I am not the only victim of this scheme.

These actions had caused a lot of emotional and mental anguish to me and have subjected my family to extreme suffering and hardship ever since they closed the card we currently get our food from. Bank of America is out again on one of their fraudulent schemes, defrauding both federal government and public (consumers). Bank of America is taking fraudulent statistics to present to federal government on people they helped to justify the bail out money they embezzled. Doubt me, set up an investigation because this behavior is desperate and not normal and totally out of place. Since when did credit card company start pressuring people to pay off their credit balance? The more you owe more money, the more they make out of you. Why are they so desperate to close my account even when I offered to pay more money to pay off my balance? And since when has it become the responsibility of the credit card company to monitor financial activities of the customers with other creditors and use as a ground to punish me so severely when I have not violated their terms of contract or that of other creditors?

So in effect, because I have their credit card, I am not allowed to apply for a car or mortgage loan? This is ridiculous. Why did they have to put on their system that they offered me 60 months pay off with 4% but when in actual fact, they did not give it to me but stuck their high interest rate to me? Who will explain to whomever they are showing those statistics that what they claimed to have done for the public that they actually in fact did not do anything? I will appreciate a thorough investigation on this case. Not only that with our taxes we subsidize the fat pockets of their CEO, but also get ripped off by their high interest. Any attempts you make to request for your interest to be lowered will result to unnecessary adverse actions against you including closing your account. Thank you. I will be looking forward for your help because I don’t have enough resources to go after them in court. I am sure they are quite aware of this and keep taking advantage of the poor.

Apparently, they claim my credit report is reporting high debt, so BOA decided the best thing to do is to suck everything they can out of me by raising my finance rate. Nice! With a rate like this, if I was to make the minimum payment (which is by the way what they count on), I would never get (a little over $3k paid off!).

My minimum payment is $88 per month on the current balance. The finance charge is $61.96. With an interest rate of 25.49%, the actual payment going toward my balance is about $26. Can you imagine how long it would take to pay off a balance of just a bit over $3k and how much in interest that BOA would make off of me? Unbelievable! I was told that I could reject this rate, but never use the card again. If I do, they will raise the rate back up to 25.49%. I rejected the rate and really, all in all, it won't be hard to comply with this dirty little agreement. I will never use this card again. They do not take into account other income from my spouse. The only reason that our cards are so high is because we purchased a home that needed major work done.

The problem that I am now having is that we planned on using most of our credit to fix this home up. And when all the work was done, we were getting it reappraised and taking a new mortgage out with all the credit card bills included into the mortgage. Now because they took away my credit that I have worked many years for, I have run out of funds. And this home will not be appraised for the amount needed, especially now because of the slumping housing market. Each month that goes by that I try to save money to finish the renovations costs me $1,600 in credit card bills that I would not have once I readjust my mortgage. Do I have to carry the ones that aren't paying so they feel, let's penalize the ones who are paying to cover for all the ones who aren't! I'm disgusted by their practices! I also do have other credit cards that I haven't used for the same amount of time that I haven't used BOA and their payments are dropping, albeit not much, but they aren't going up.

I have excellent credit and have never been late. I actually pay more than the minimum quite a bit. With the current economy, I will not be able to make these new $650 minimum payments each month and this will ruin my credit. Can they raise my % rate almost double at the drop of the hat? Can I do anything to force them to stay at previous rate, or at least not raise my rate on my balance that had the previous 8.74% rate ($27,000)? This will force me into a bankruptcy! Please help!

Like many in this thread, we have been loyal BofA customers in both business and personal checking and savings and credit cards. We were very surprised to see that our bank of over 10 years suddenly and almost silently raised our rate to 26% from a fixed rate of 18%. The notice was buried with a statement that we did not see. I called BofA to see if they would work with me to our rate back to the fixed rate we had. The first guy at customer service said there is no way to do so. Then I asked to speak with someone else who said, “We can reduce your rate but I need to ask you some questions first.” I obliged and he then left me on hold. After about 20 minutes, he came back and said that is the best rate they can give me. And judging by the information I just gave him, they would lower my available credit by half. From $12K to $6K!

So by calling BofA to get some help got some hurt. The guy was even cocky about lowering our available credit. We are closing our account there tomorrow, and we will never ever deal with them again. I am going to write my congressman and senator to plead that the US does not send BofA any more money. This is the worst thing a customer service call has ever resulted in. We now have no more credit room. We can and will make due but the whole experience of having our interest rate raise then get slighted like this makes me feel very small to BofA. Oh yeah, and the US Treasury is giving them billions!

I was out of town from 12/19/08 to 1/01/09. I thought I had taken care of all the bills. The Bank of America statement arrived after 12/19/08 with a statement due date of 1/01/09 (they change their due dates monthly, example 12/3/08 and 2/08/09). The postman had given my mail to a neighbor. The neighbor gave me the mail on 1/01/09. I checked the mail and saw the Bank of America statement. I immediately called them on 1/01/09 before their afternoon cut off time to pay my bill by phone. I have never been late with a Bank of America payment. I spoke with a lady named Melissa. She said the payment would not be applied till 1/02/09 due to the holiday but because of the holiday, she was waiving the phone fee and late fee. Happy New Year!

Now, I received my statement from Bank of America, and it has a $39 late fee and a $19.50 credit, late charge adjustment. The late fee was to have been waived, so I called Bank of America. This time, I spoke with an account manager named something like Annquanita. She said my account only had a notation for a partial adjustment of the late fee. She was very adamant and would not remove the additional $19.50. She would not let me speak with anyone else. She doesn't know any Melissa. She said I could not dispute a late charge. I'm so angry! I do not want to pay this $19.50. Do I have any recourse?

I have fraud credit card charge by merchant in UK. I disputed two times with my credit card company, Bank of America. But BOA considered this charge valid. The whole story is as follows. I placed order with www.Beijingticketing.com on Nov. 25, 2007. Right after I placed the order, I felt Beijingticketing.com is a cheating company. The merchant is registered in the US and operated in the UK. I tried to contact merchant to cancel this order but the Merchant ignored my request. Then I disputed with BOA which is my business credit card company. BOA gave me temporary credit back when I disputed at that time.

At end of Jan. 2008, BOA charged me back and told me this charge was valid because Merchant website showed all order is final. No order can be canceled. I argued with their claim manager, Mr. **. He said BOA would be able to dispute this charge again if merchant doesn't deliver ticket as they promised (at end of July of 2008), within one year on Feb. 5, 2008. So I had no choice but to wait for the ticket until the end of July of 2008. At the end of July 2008, I received an email from Beijingticketing.com telling me there was no ticket available to deliver to me. I disputed again and faxed all document to BOA. BOA gave me a temporary credit back. But last week in Jan. 2009, BOA charged me back again.

I called BOA again to ask for the reason. Their supervisor, Mr. **, said it was because I canceled my order. Whether the Merchant delivered the products or not, the charge is valid because I canceled the order. Even though the Merchant did not deliver the products, BOA still considered this charge valid. I told him the true reason is this merchant was a cheating company and already closed. BOA couldn't get money back from Merchant bank. He agreed and knew that was true. But he said it is not their business and told me to sue that merchant. I believe BOA tried to switch the responsibility to consumer. I believe this is illegal. BOA said two different reasons at different time. I want to sue BOA because they didn't dispute this fraud charge and didn't protect the consumer. But I don't know how to sue such a big company. Can somebody help me to sue BOA?

In October 2006, I paid a sum of $4000 toward my MBNA AMERICA-CHP account, in full and final settlement. You will see receipt of that money from Bank of America in my enclosure: a fax received on Monday 14th January 2008, from Bank of America, in response to a query from my bank, TD Banknorth. (Pages #2; #3 ). I have highlighted that amount in my September/October 2006 statement from my bank, also enclosed. (Page #4) After I had paid the account in full and final settlement, I closed it and dispensed with my credit card. I have not used that credit card at all, since then. I noticed in November 2006, that the monthly amount which had heretofor been automatically debited by Bank of America, from my bank account, had once again been removed. I contacted Bank of America, and explained the error. They acknowledged that error and reversed the debit. I have enclosed proof of that reversal here, in my monthly bank statement. (Page #5) I also instructed my bank to block any further attempts to automatically debit my account. Unfortunately, every month after that, I received a statement from Bank of America, asking for the monthly payment amount again. On receipt of these statements, I would call them, and explain again that an error had been made. Each time I called, I was told that they had indeed been in error, that they acknowledged that I had paid in final settlement and that I had closed my account. I was always assured that the matter rested there. The following month, however, I would again receive a statement and the entire process would have to be repeated, ending always in an assurance that the matter had been taken care of. I believe that this was repeated for 8 or 9 months. I would ask you to look into this matter. I believe that the history of this account, going back to October 2006, will support my explanation. I would certainly hope that it will. I notice one thing which I can not explain. The account number you will see on my enclosure has the same first 6 numbers as the one you quote in your letter to me. The other numbers are different. My account number: 5329 064 5547 61584 The number in your letter: 5329 064 9992 48254 I have no idea how to explain that. I don't know what the amount of $536.67 which you list in your letter, refers to. It would help if you could supply me with that information. I would greatly appreciate some help in this matter. You will appreciate that this has been really stressful for me. Thank you for you attention. I mailed it delivery confirmation on 12/18 from New Mexico to Texas; I figured three days would be sufficient. It was delivered on 12/22. I tried to get them to waive the fee and at least reduce the interest rate that went from 4.99% to 28.99%. They kept telling me that they give several days to get the payment mailed and that I should have planned better; there was nothing that they could do. I asked them if there was mail delivery to Dallas on Sunday. No. Did they work on Sunday so that they could post the payment had it been delivered on Saturday? No. So the true delivery date was 12/19, not 12/21 as they'd stated. No, it was 12/21. Then why couldn't they post the payment on Monday since every effort was to get the payment to them on or before the due date? “It was received and posted after the due date,” was all she said.

Since all of the banks that had these deceptive practices have been sued in the past, they now have the arbitration clause where a consumer waives the right to sue. Somehow, this just doesn't seem constitutional to me. A Washington State judge also felt that way toward AT&T when a customer sued them regarding their arbitration only clause. Several years ago, I successfully sued Fleet Bank (which was eventually bought out by BofA) over this very issue. All I really want is for maybe the Supreme Court to make a ruling that no bank can make a payment due on a weekend or holiday; and if a computer program is generated that way, that they will post the payment the following business day when it is received. I also want someone to make a decision that anyone has the right to sue if they feel they have been deceived, wronged or otherwise damaged.

When speaking with the rep, my husband was told we were not on any repayment plan and had been charged late fee and interest. Our agreement was that those things were to stop while on the plan until the total was paid. The only reason we were contacted was because due to this plan we were on, we paid through direct withdrawal every month; and since we changed banks, they could no longer get their funds.

We explained to them we were happy give new info and reset up withdrawal cycle. But they stated that they would have to take a payment of good faith, talk to managers re this because they could see in notes where a customer service rep previously refunded several fees and requested we be put on repayment plan. However, they failed to ever do that but never notified us and continued to take payments. We have had several conversations with them and never a mention of not being on the plan.

Now the only option they are giving us is to settle for half the amount by making settlement which will negatively impact my credit. Or, make ridiculous monthly payments for goodness knows how long with interest and late fees. Their argument is I should've noticed the interest rate on the statement; however, I have questioned it before and they told me my statement does not reflect this. Even still they failed to ever put me on the plan and now refuse to reinstate it for another year. Please help; this is the craziest thing I've ever heard of.

After reading all the complaints that have been posted about Bank of America credit cards, I wonder if it is worth my while to register mine. However, here goes. Several months ago, I was granted a balance transfer to a Bank of America credit card (Paralyzed Veterans of America) with a zero percentage interest rate until July 2009 in the amount of $2,000 (my credit rating is 800). I was paying $200-$300 per month on time. The October payment for $200 posted on October 7. The payment for November ($300) posted on November 4, one day, I was told, before the cutoff date. Because I use my bank Bill Pay, I pay all of my bills around the first of the month via internet.

When I discovered a late fee in the amount of $49 had been assessed for the November payment, I called BOA and the late fee was waived. Two weeks later, I received a notice that the agreement had been cancelled because I failed to make the November payment on time. When I explained that the November 4 payment was the November payment, I was told that because it was received before November 5th, it was credited to October. Naturally, because the late payment amount was waived, I assumed the account was in good standing. After explanations and conversations with reps and manager/supervisors, I was told in no uncertain terms, "Sorry, there's nothing we can do." My only relief was to pay the higher interest rate on the balance or pay it off.

I'm simply venting my frustration and anger. I switched the balance to another provider and paid another transfer fee. I value my good credit rating and have notified the three credit reporting services. I will not use any services from Bank of America again. Thank you.

When I asked if there was any way for us to avoid this fee, the customer service agent said, "No, it's just the way the cycle fell this month."

How can we be responsible for their billing cycle? We only received the bill today (Jan. 15, 2009) so there is no way we would have known it was for 34 days rather than 30 days. Shouldn't they have sent the bill earlier? Did everyone who uses Bank of America with this billing cycle get this fee? What about all their elderly customers on a fixed income? I am appalled they can do this type of charge. How can they justify it? Is this perhaps because Bank of America is in a financial bailout mode?

We do not use the internet for any billing transactions due to possible security compromise problems so this is not an option for us. I have written Bank of America a letter stating we will not pay this fee of $39.45 and we will close our account if it is not credited next month. I can email a copy to you if needed. Can you help?

If the mail gets your payment there a day late (according to them), fees are off the charts and there is no working with them. I have several accounts with this bank, which is about to change, and a history of being an exemplary customer. Little good it did me. Although I mailed my payment 5 days prior to the due date, it arrived on day six, a day late. A hefty finance charge later, they make no concessions. This is not a case of the public trying to compensate for negligence and late payment, but an opportunistic way for the company to claim late payment and collect fees. They posted a day late (did it really arrive a day late?). My, my, my, how convenient.

I am almost completely free of credit charges and when I am, I plan to go cash and vote against any credit company bail outs. It's the public that needs a bail out from this shady practice of squeezing the public on inflated finance charges and bogus posting dates. They should be trying to help those of us that still have the means to pay the cards off rather than go into bankruptcy. My apologies to the schlubs in BoA customer service. They deserve combat pay! I agree with others here that they are deliberately finding ways to add late fees through shady billing practices, and would warn anyone to stay away from their offers. Pure thievery.

My husband and I have several credit cards issued by Bank of America. In November, they raised the interest rate on one of the cards to 23.99% based on our current credit load. I called to discuss this with them and asked that this card be closed and that the interest rate be returned to the original rate of 8.99%. They agreed. We have never missed a payment on any of our cards! The next week, I tried to use one of our other Bank of America cards and it was declined. I was surprised because I knew that card had a high amount of credit limit still available. When I called Bank of America to inquire on the reason, I was told that the card had been closed along with another card we had from Bank of America. They closed these accounts with no communication with us at all. They had no problem as long as I was willing to pay the 23.99%. As soon as I complained, they closed all our accounts siting our credit load. Since closing our accounts, they are now raising the interest rates on the closed accounts. Is this legal?

I have $2,400 on a credit card (my balance) with Bank of America. I have a $4,400 limit. They offered me the option (via email) to do a balance transfer for 3.99% for a year on top of the 3.99% I am paying on the $2,400, which is a promotional rate through October 2009. So I did two balance transfers to pay off two little cards ($700 and $600) so that those will have a zero balance and be paid off, and have three cards consolidated into one at a 3.99% interest rate through the end of the year. I plan to pay it off well before then.

They called last night and said I needed to call them back about my inquiry? So I called and they said they need to verify my income and personal information. As I was answering the questions, I asked, "Are you going to run a credit report on me?" He said yes. I said, "Why? I am not asking for an increase. I am just tapping into my $2,000 available limit." I have had this card for 5 years and never had a late payment. I have paid it off in full several times. I said, "Never mind, just cancel the balance transfers. I don't want you running a report on my credit. It negatively affects my score." He said they can run whatever they want any time they want on my credit report. It is in my terms and agreement. He said I can't say no.

So they ran it. Although I have a 725 credit score, they lowered my limit to $2,400 and denied the balance transfer. So now the card is maxed out, negatively affecting my credit score and they ran an inquiry on it, lowering my credit score further. Is this legal?

In December 2008, the billing cycle for the Visa was shortened by 5 days. I did not notice this but I did pay both bills by the due date of the Visa. I received the January MasterCard bill and noted the due date of 1/14/2009 (the new Visa due date is 1/9/2009). I paid the bills electronically on 1/11/2009, which means the MasterCard is on time, but the Visa is two (2) days late. I have now lost a very low interest rate on the Visa card. I always paid on time full amount, except maybe 2 or 3 technical delays like vacation, and fees had been waived so it makes everybody happy. The trouble started when my card had been bought by BofA. I believe that they tripled the interest rate, which is not a problem for me because I always pay the full amount. But once I had been on vacation and BofA had received my payment the next day, they charged almost $50 for that.

After a heated conversation with worst ever chain of officers, they made an adjustment for $15. From that point, I started to be very carefully with the card. I almost stopped using it and paid it in full amount + few cents in two weeks advance. I even overpaid more than $1,000 by mistake. And the fun began. This is the most absurd thing I have ever heard of. What do I have to do with others? What kind of crazy legislation has allowed this to happen? I thought we were in a recession? Having not received them 10 days later, I called to request a cash advance, a direct deposit to my checking account. In the course of updating my information, the customer service person inquired about my recent balance payment of $4800. He tells me he needs to know where I got the money for that payment. Then he starts asking me if there is income I am not reporting to them. When I tell him no, he starts asking if I have trouble paying my bills. My bills are always paid on time. He then proceeds to inform me that he needs to drop my credit limit on this account from $5000 to $1200. When I asked to speak to a manager, he continuously asks, "What do you think they can tell you that I haven't?" I had to now argue with him to speak to a manager.

After holding another 10 minutes, the manager gets on the phone. My question is that why does a customer who makes their monthly payment or pays their balances in full now get their credit limit lowered and cash advance denied? She does not believe that I am able to pay my bills as I state. However, my bills are all paid and no one is looking for money from me. She then starts figuring what I bring home after taxes... She has no idea at this point what my withholding allowances are... and doesn't believe there's enough money. She then starts saying you must use your credit card to pay your utilities because we just don't see there's enough money. She again has no idea of what utilities I have to pay or how much a month they are (one utility bill by the way which is $68 per month). She claims my card was coincidentally up for a periodic review. However, in 2 years no one has ever contacted me to review the information on my account. Needless to say I immediately asked her to close the account. I think it's a shame that after 2 years with a good history with the company that it had to end on such a bad note.

When I was taking some really harsh extreme medicine treatment and was on disability, some credit card salesman called me up and tried to shove a credit card down my throat. I had been upset, so I declined all offers in the mail. I think at a certain point that they hired telemarketers who got a commission for all the credit cards they sold. I told one of them NO WAY, I didn't want it. He quickly said he was going to send it to me in the mail and hung up.

There was no interest rate in the first year. I used it during some emergencies as that is what I was taught a credit card was for. I paid it off before the year was up and it seemed to anger them. They increased my credit limit at about 12.9 percent. Later they sent me a letter which stated they were changing the interest rate for no reason. I called up and complained. I asked that if I wrote a letter to them and said they owed me an extra hundred dollars a month, would they feel obligated to pay it? Just because you sent me a letter, it doesn't change a contract. I LOST my credit card and they gave me an extended credit limit and raised my interest rate again without asking me.

I recently broke my leg and am not able to work. I have been making my payments. This is the problem I have is they keep making my balance and minimum payment go up for no reason as I make my payments. I was paying more each month than minimum and so they raised my minimum to match how much I was paying extra. This month I had tried to make my free online payment as I had an online account set up years ago. As I tried to make my payment the day before it was due, it told me that I couldn't make the payment immediately because my online account (which should have already been set up as it was in the past) would be set up in two days.

When I called the next day they told me it would work. As they stalled me and stalled me, I ended up with a 15 dollar late fee and then charged another 15 dollars to my account for having to make my payment over the phone. This was added to my balance. I can't use the wheelchair I am to make it to the branch so they have taken advantage of me. I am tired of their interest hikes for no reason which had NOTHING to do with my original contract. There is nothing legal about them changing the contract without notifying me and giving me a way to respond. I didn't agree to any more contracts.

After contacting Bank of America, I was told that in August 2008, notice was mailed to me that I would receive a rate increase unless I 'opted out' of the increase and refrained from continuing to use the card (we have actually not used the card during the 2008 calendar year).

For whatever reason, I did not see the notice. No doubt this appeared just like all of the other 'junk mail' we receive daily from credit companies. Obviously, had I received the notice, I would have opted out of the rate change. I have talked with two representatives at Bank of America, both of whom were very polite but were clearly reading the company policy regarding this change from a printed statement (who knows, perhaps they have it memorized by now as I have little doubt I was the first caller).

I do have some outstanding debt, debt which I have always made timely payment on. I am stunned that a company like Bank of America would pull such an obvious stunt. As a consumer, do I have any recourse? If I continue to make minimum payments on this account, I will incur interest charges of $3,587.92 over the course of the payoff period. At my previous rate, the finance charges would have been $950.93 and I would have been able to pay the debt off 16 months sooner.

I have an existing credit card with Bank of America. Evidently, Bank of American recently took over the balance of my other credit card. I was therefore, unaware that I now had 2 Bank of America cards. When I received my statement, I sent in my payments not realizing I was making a payment to the wrong charge card. I ended up with a $2478.00 credit on one card and the other card is showing delinquent. I contacted BoA and was told that my interest rate has now gone from 8.99% to 28.99%. They can see where I made the payment to the wrong account. Who would keep a $2478 credit on a charge card? I have asked them to close both accounts and put my interest rate back to 8.99% so I can pay this balance off but they refuse. I live in Michigan, lost my job and have just recently obtained a new job. I will never be able to pay this card off with this incredibly high interest rate. Before the current economic conditions, my credit score was 800+. Can someone please give me advice on this issue?

On Wednesday, Dec. 17, I called Bank of America at the above listed number to discuss the fact that suddenly my prior interest rate of approx. 8% had been raised to 23%. I had recently only one late payment because I had thought it had been paid, as I usually pay my bills on time. I explained this to the man who answered, who told me that I also had had some (minor) overlimit charges. I was transferred to James **, and I discussed my request. "We do like to work with our customers," he said, "Just make a payment to bring your balance back under limit, and we'll work with you."

I made a double payment over the phone to B of A through him during our conversation. He asked how much my yearly income is and asked what I did for a living. I told him. He asked if I had a payment plan to pay down my debt. He spoke in a harsh tone to me. At first, I couldn't understand him, so I asked him to repeat his question. He said. "We like it when people have a concrete plan; some people have assets." I explained that I do have assets. I explained what I intended to do to reduce mt debt. I also explained that I've been a reliable customer who has paid on time and that any overlimit charges that might have occurred were immediately paid and that they had happened without me being aware that I was over limit, not intentionally. I thought just paying their overlimit fee would be enough if it should ever occur. "Give it a day or so for your payment to clear, then call back and ask for the billing department so we can talk further about how we can work with you. We'll have some questions for you."

I called back two days later, which was today, December 19. A Mr. John ** (manager) answered. I asked to be transferred to the billing department. He went to find my account and then said, "There is a note here that 23% is the best we can do regarding your interest rate." I asked to speak to the billing department. Mr. ** told me that the credit department will not speak to customers once they've made a decision, and that the note said 23% was the best they could do. I asked to speak with James **. "They won't speak with customers once they've made their decision," he said again and again. I said, "Mr. ** told me to call back in a day or so after my payment had cleared to discuss more questions and work out a plan." Mr. ** then repeated the same answer.

I said, "That's very unfair. And it's very manipulative to ask a customer to first make a payment and tell them that at that point B of A will be very willing to work with them, just give it a couple of days for the payment to clear and call us back, only to be told when I called back that I couldn't speak to anyone in the credit department." He said I had had a late payment and was at least two times over my limit, and that's what B of A does to people who have one late payment and at least two overlimit charges. I explained again that I have been a good customer, have paid on time, and that the only reason I was late (once) was that I had been out of town and had thought the payment had been made but was mistaken. I also told him that I didn't realize that charging over limit required anything from the customer other than paying an overcharge fee and bringing the account under limit. He said, "That's what our contract says." I said never knew about this rule nor was I ever told about this. It could be somewhere in fine print, but I find this and the attitude of policy toward customers to be disrespectful, misleading, manipulative, unfair, and unjust.

I am glad that the government has finally decided to put some limits on credit cards but I regret that it will not take place till 2010. Our biggest problems has been with Bank of America... They are now charging us 19.99 % interest although we are paying our bill regularly now. We have written and called. Sometimes the web site email response gives the promise of some relief. However, when I called, I got varying reasons why they would not lower our rate. Yes, there was a time when we were a little late but we were never in default which is what one representative claimed. In the past 6 months, we have been making our minimum payments in a timely manner. When we are able we pay more than the minimum, we do. Yet Bank of America will not lower the rate.

We have almost completely stopped using credit cards and have had to dip into our retirement accounts. We are both self-employed so it is not easy now. In these difficult times, it is not easy to get out of debt when credit cards companies are so unreasonable. Before we made a strong effort to pay on time, we were sometimes charged 26.99% interest and a $39 late fee. In some of these cases, we were only one day late. We are trying to get our financial house in order but the financial institutions are making it difficult. In a recent conversation, one Bank of America representative used our income as a reason not to lower our interest. In fact our income is approximately what it was when we were given the cards? What good will lowering the federal funds rate do if only rich people will benefit?

Listen to this: I had a credit card with MBNA (EBAY) for about 2 years then Bank of America took them over. My interest rate was 5.9 for 4 years (the life of the card) then all of a sudden I went online to look at my statement and my interest rate went from 5.9% all the way up to 19.99. After I spoke with three different people I spoke with a woman named Cathy ** who is a credit specialist. The number I reached her at was **. I wanted to know why my interest rate jumped 15 PERCENT. She said that I had such a good rate for so long and that it was a mistake, plus the bad economy and the best answer she gave was that was the cost of doing business for Bank of America. I almost died when I heard those EXCUSES.

I did not miss a payment since I had the card. Cathy ** also said that I wasn't making strong enough payments. When I asked her to clarify her answer as to what a strong payment consisted of she had no answer. I am on disability and this hurts too much. I hope Bank of America goes out of business. I hope Americans with these ridiculous rates go to Loansharks to get their loans and we know where that money goes too, but these banks do not give Americans a choice. It's cheaper to go to a loanshark and the loansharks fund the black market which funds terrorism. They said they sent out an opt out form. If I opted out they would have kept my interest at 5.9. I did not receive this form and it was hidden in my account online. So automatically they raised my interest rate 15 percent. THIS IS A SCAM AND YOU WILL HEAR MORE OF THIS SCAM BY BANK OF AMERICA.

There was no explanation so I asked them to lower my rates back to where they were. I stated they could look my payment history up and clearly see that I pay at least of 2 times the minimum payment every month on time. Last month I paid 4 times the minimum. I try to explain to the person on the phone that my credit history with all accounts, including my truck loan, have been paid on time and with more paid than what the monthly amount due was.

Apparently they don't give a damn about anything more than making a profit with our tax dollar bailout. Not only did they refuse to lower the interest rate, but they lowered my credit line to the amount I owe. Next day I called the 800 number to find out what my interest rate was on another BofA card only to find that they had already lowered my credit limit to the amount I owed on that card as well. I will be closing both accounts with BofA and will not do business with them again.

What he NEVER told me was raising my limit only for one month and as a result if the amount I charged on the 13th of October was not paid off by the 13th of November that I would be in serious overdraft and as a result, I would owe overdraft fees and would no longer be in good standing with the Bank.

I thought that this was a simple process of increasing my credit limit and I was fully prepared to pay around $400 to $500 per month. In September 2008 the APR on my Bank of America Platinum Plus Visa card was raised from an accumulative 20.99% to 27.99%. I have a FICO of 720. The account has been open since at least 2000. The APR has increased at least 1 point every 2-4 months, bringing me from a 8.99% to 20.99% prior to the hike. I have not made a charge on this card for at least 6 months and am more than $1000 below my credit limit. I have used their auto payment features for years. When I changed banks, their online bill paying service removed the old bank account immediately while taking 30 days or more to add my new bank. This caused one payment to arrive late when I was unable to send it until after I learned they did not register my new bank account within the payment window. The excuse I was given was that I should have made a manual payment and not relied on their auto payment service feature. They eventually refunded my interest and restored my APR when I complained to the Better Business Bureau.

I recently called about the hike. I signed up for paperless billing and as a result, I only get generic notifications in my email box indicating that my statement is available. As this is not an account that I purchase on, I rely on the stability of my credit worthiness and my years of timely payment as an assurance that the account is under control without having to check and see that the company is meddling with me. As a result I did not see the notice of the rate increase until after the window for denying the rate increase had closed. When I called to demand an explanation for the rate hike, I was told by the customer service agent that, due to the economy and the increased likelihood of borrowers defaulting on their credit cards, my credit risk was reassessed. I confirmed with the customer service representative that a rate of 27.99% is only 7 points below the default rate.

As far as I am concerned, this amounts to blindsided character assassination, as according to universal default, my understanding is that companies have access to interest being charged by other cards as well as payment history in order to make an assessment as to my ability to pay. I am being told that I am getting charged more because other cardholders are defaulting. Essentially, I am being forced to be held accountable for market forces and their detrimental effects that are beyond my control. While I recognize that credit card companies have abused the legal system to extort customers for years, they are now making judgments about my ability to pay based on factors that are irrelevant to my payment history and are entirely hidden from me. Meanwhile, they receive bailouts from the government as a reward for over leveraging and being losers in the derivatives market, trying as hard as they can to swallow the bitter pill of Countrywide.

I am writing to you on behalf of possibly thousands of Bank of America credit card customers who are being forced to close their accounts or else face certain damage to their credit standing - which for many of us has taken years to establish. I have been a credit card customer in good standing with Bank of America for many years. In fact, I was a also good customer of the original card issuer, MBNA (subsequently bought out by Bank of America a few years ago). Having always paid my card in good faith, I was shocked to learn that Bank of America had determined that because of a recent audit of my credit report, they now viewed me as a credit risk. Not because I was ever delinquent on my accounts, mind you, but just because they thought so! I have always been a responsible borrower and have paid on time.

The bank has claimed it gave notice in August of 2008 somewhere in the statement, but the particulars are not spelled out. When I called the bank, these are the terms (in summary) that the bank proposed by phone - either agree to have your account shut down or we will raise your rate so that you cannot possibly pay it! The option that they offer is indeed not an option at all. Either consent to double my interest rate (putting it out of my range to pay), or coerce me into closing my account, changing the monthly payment schedule - thereby changing the contract that I originally entered into. I feel I am being forced into default.

They are changing their terms and trying to get their customers to go along with it. None of my particulars has changed over the years, except for the fact that I have added more credit cards to my name. I have been allowed to do this because of my good credit standing. However, if Bank of America has their way, this will no longer be the case.

I don't know whether to call it extortion or blackmail, but it is forcing me to make choices I should have not have to make. I feel I am being manipulated by the bank and am being singled out unfairly. There may be thousands of other good customers who have become victims to this scheme, putting us in such an impossible situation. It is time to stand up to these tactics. Banks need to play fair. I hope I have not been too verbose with my explanation, but I do believe we could use some help dealing with this powerful banking company. Thank you for your time.

I was well overdrawn. On top of that, my percentage rate went up to 23.9%. I am 70 and in good health and on a fixed income and the amount they wanted me to pay was more than 1/2 of my income to avoid overlimit and late charges. ($39.00 each month). It averages to about $20. Going toward my principal if I pay minimum payments. Since I was unable to pay This huge amount and would have also had to pay at least $220 over that amount to avoid the interest charge putting me overlimit again the next month.

I sent them a letter demanding a lower interest or will pay no more to them. I got no answer but, this month's statement put me another $180. in interest added on plus a $39. late fee and a $39. overlimit fee on top. I opened a BofA account with a Visa debit in July. I went to Asia on November 16. Prior to leaving, I went to my local branch to alert them of my international travels so they would not put a hold on my account for suspicious activity. I got to Japan. I tried to pay for a sushi dinner, and my card was declined. I pulled out my Washington Mutual card and it was accepted. The next day, I tried to pay for my hotel bill at the Intercontinental, and my card was declined. It was horrifying. My friend paid for the hotel. It was expensive.

When I got to Hong Kong, I was forced to pay for four very expensive calls, all of which made me go through the awful phone trees. Each time I got a human, I was told they had to forward me to a different department. I was disconnected twice, and had to start all over again. I finally got someone named Sarah who informed me that the reason my card was declined was because BofA had asked the operator to require my ID, and when the ID was not shown (how they would ever know this, I don't know), BofA considered it a suspicious transaction and suspended the card.

Knowing this was absolutely wrong, because my Washington Mutual, and my friend's Chase and Citibank cards didn't have this issue, I demanded to speak to a supervisor. Bank of America had no supervisor available, and this Sarah told me she was going to have to hang up on me to open the line to another customer, even though I was stuck in Hong Kong without reasonable assurances BofA wouldn't destroy the rest of my vacation. She actually hung up on me.

I called a supervisor upon my return to find that BofA will suspend your card even if you go to your bank and alert them to your travel arrangements and they log this in your account profile. Why? Because whatever is put in the system doesn't matter. BofA, unlike Washington Mutual, Chase and Citibank, just automatically suspends cards from a computer program when it sees unusual activity, even though you have gone into the bank to alert them that what might seem like unusual activity, is not unusual because you are telling them you will be out of the country.

I was told this by a supervisor. Sarah, the clerk who hung up on me after four bites at the phone tree while I was nearly hysterical in Hong Kong had lied to me. Apparently, if you travel out of the country, and you inform the bank that you will be traveling, the automatic computer program will wreak havoc on your life and suspend you. Bank of America has apologized, but I see no agreement to pay for my outrageous telephone calls from Hong Kong to resolve this mess. I am going to be closing my account with BofA.

Also, for the first five months of my having an account, they consistently held my checks, even though at least 20 checks they held came from my attorney trust account and had cleared with no problem before. I am outraged that one of the biggest banks has no ability to protect its customers while overseas. I hope this assists other travelers and warns you to bring another bank card with you so this nightmare doesn't occur to you.

I have been a customer for years, balance of $10,664, interest rate of 5.9%. They increased the interest rate to 20.49%. I called them to reject this and she said, "We want to see you reduce your credit limits." Seriously, by raising the interest rate and charging me more!!! I told this lady, "We are in the process of building a house and have a high limit on a Menards card for temporary building expenses and it closes when we close on our house!" She said, they just want to see us reduce our credit card limit. The balance on the Menards card is below $100. My complaint: THEY RAISE INTEREST RATES BECAUSE THEY WANT TO SEE PEOPLE LOWER THEIR LIMITS? How can they, when they raise the interest rates?

I have a balance of about $17000 with Bank of America. Even though I have a high balance with them, I have always paid my bills on time. In fact, I have an astounding record of paying bills on time and never have I defaulted with Bank of America. Recently, I realize that BoA readjusted my APR from 7.99% to 14.99%. They told me that it was within their right to readjust the rate however they wanted. Well, so I complained and begged them to lower my interest rate because I'm having so much difficulty paying my bills. Anyway, they agreed to lower it but then the following bill the rate was still at 14.99%. I called in and complained and they told me that they raised it back up to 14.99% because I used my card. Who the hell knew that I wasn't supposed to be using my card? They never said that they would raise my interest rate back up if I used my card again. The fact is, I didn't even use my card, it was an automatic payment from eBay for like 3 bucks.

Of course, I continued to complain but the supervisor said that there was nothing that anyone could do to help me out. She suggest that I just have to pay the bill at the current 14.99% interest rate. I then asked her why BoA even raised my interest rate in the first place. The supervisor explained that because of my high balance, I was deemed risky. I then asked her that If I were deemed in danger of not be able to make my payments then why raised my APR? Wouldn't that make it even harder for a "risky" card holder to pay his debt? In other words, they were afraid that I couldn't pay my bills so they decided to raise it even higher. I asked the supervisor to explain this to me but she said that "BoA remains the right not to answer that question."

I am a professional with a college degree working in education and constantly volunteer whatever time I have to improve the surrounding communities and now I can't even pay rent. In fact, now I live in my own ** car just so that I can pay my credit card debt. Something is seriously wrong and these credit card companies are exploiting the most vulnerable part of society. It is only a matter of time because I start to default. I have learned a very valuable lesson - Bankers are crooks. Without going into too much detail... when I called Bank of America on 12/3/08 concerning the change to my credit card bill, I was greeted with appreciation for being a long time good customer since 1999. Despite this, I was treated like an unwanted stepchild. I was denied the right to speak with any supervisors and was on the phone (mostly on hold) for two hours only to be told that no one could help me and that my interest rate could not be lowered under any circumstances. In fact, after nearly an hour and a half on hold, a rep finally told me (while laughing) that I had even been forwarded to all the wrong departments.

The irony is that on that same day when I called Citibank for a totally different reason, they volunteered out of nowhere to lower my interest rate and pretty much rolled out the red carpet even though I was not calling to complain. Summary: Bank of America has done things to try to trap me in debt including suddenly increasing my monthly bill to an outrageous amount despite my never missing a payment, moving the due date around to trap me with a late payment, and then passing the buck when you call for assistance. Out of all of my bills, greedy Bank of America is the ONLY one I have trouble with. Since my bill is too high and may now completely ruin my credit record, I am in the process of trying to find another lender. But, due to the economic crisis that Bank of America and other banks caused in the first place, it is nearly impossible to find loans at this time.

I thought I had read the offer thoroughly but sure enough when I went back over it, it could very well be interpreted that a 3 % fee would be charged (It was very deceptive). Ok, my mistake, I accepted that. I have made payments every month since the account has been opened (approx 10 months). Apparently, a payment was a couple days late. I called and was told the late fee would be reversed and that I needed to make my payment by the 22nd of the month. I doubled up on a payment and started making my payments around the 1st of the month, that way I would never be late.

Well one month I guess I made it one day too early and was charged another late fee. I called and was told this and that I needed to make my payment after the 3rd of the month. My interest rate then went to 9.99%. I doubled up on another payment and made it right away. Next month, there is a 29.99% interest rate and another $39.00 late fee. They applied the double payment to the previous month so the current payment was late again. I cannot afford the interest rate. First of all, I have never been late making payments to my Bank of America cards. I had a credit limit of $32,000. I never asked for this amount, they just gave it to me. I have been paying on balance transfers and the interest rate just skyrocket to 27.9%. So having just recently obtaining three credit reports from my American Express Secure Credit, I learned that my credit was good. It was a 740 average for the three. They based the score on several items. So, I called Bank of America to see if they could lower my rate as I thought that it was exceedingly high. They told me that they had gotten information from Equifax Credit services that led them to believe that I required a higher interest and then told me that they were going to send me to another line to get credit counseling.

I was hesitant to talk to anyone other than a person that I had called directly, but I continued on with the process. The caller on the other end then took more information and told me that I needed to make an appointment with a counselor and that while a counselor was available at this time, I could schedule an appointment at a more convenient time for me. Still skeptical, I made the appointment. In the meantime, I got another statement showing that they had lowered by interest rate from 27.9%to 22.9% and refunded some that interest that had incurred with the following months statement. I also got a letter from Mr. Scott ** of Bank of America informing me as you discussed with a Credit Analyst, my account has been closed to further charging privileges because "you currently have sufficient debt considering your income (?)."

So when I got the call from the Credit Counselor, he asked me why I made the appointment. I told him that I was calling for the Credit Counseling that Bank of America had offered to me. And I asked him, "What is Credit Counseling about??" The Counselor told me that they offer to consolidate my debt and that I must understand that all of my accounts will be closed and that I will not have access to any of the other credit cards. So I considered for a moment. This might be good for me, so I asked what bank would this be and he replied "Bank of America?"

I then asked, "What would be my interest rate for this consolidation?" He then told me that he couldn't tell me because it would have to be set by Bank of America. I then asked him if he could give a ball park figure and he say, "Well, some customers have a 4.99%, while others have a 10.99% and some have a 12.99% interest rate." I then asked, "How do you determine which rate would be my interest rate?" He replied that they usually know after three months in the process. I politely replied that I just couldn't trust Bank of America to give me a good interest rate and that I could not do business with them. So what do I do now and how do I clear up this blemish on my account? Thank you for any help that you can give to me.

My business credit card statement came in last Friday's mail (11/21) and is Due this Friday (11/28). I was out of the office last Friday and yesterday (Monday) so now even if I put it in the mail today (11/25) it might not get there by the due date. I had to drive all over town to find a Bank of America so I could pay in person. I looked at the envelope that contained the statement to see when it was mailed to me but there is no way to determine this - its a postage prepaid envelope so it's not postmarked.

There is some kind of bar code that the USPS put on the envelope but I took it to the post office and they said they could not tell (when it was mailed) from the bar code. I called Bank of America and they claimed that the bill was mailed out on the 10th of the month. I don't believe this, if its true then that means it took 11 days to deliver. If this was the first time this had happened I would not be concerned but I have detected a pattern and I honestly believe this is intentional. And I believe they are using the prepaid postage envelope to cover their tracks.

Knowing I had credit I called from work only to find out that my APR had been jacked from 14.9% to 30% overnight and my payment had doubled and my available credit had been sucked up by a $190 finance charge. After talking to a representative, I found that after making 1 payment ONE HOUR late (online) and another payment 2 days late and gone over the limit, my rate changed to a default rate. When the rate changed, I went over the limit - yes over the limit with finance charges - I was charged a fee of $40.

To my mistake, I said to the rep, "How am I going to pay this, I should just close my account," and hung up. When I called back to talk to someone else, I found they closed both my BOA accounts not just the one I threatened. That representative NEVER got my DOB or SSN to confirm who I was. When I told a senior rep this, she said, "Well you must have referenced something on your account." When the hell does referencing something on your account make up for confirming your ID??? Even when you make a payment via phone they want your DOB AND SSN.

I spent over an hour talking to more people trying to get my accounts reopened knowing that my rate would never change once closed (from experience). Every supervisor I talked to was rude, wouldn't remove any fees and said if I paid a $100 (over the limit) maybe they would lower my rate. They also transferred me to another dept to pay off my debt??? I never asked for help. No one would listen to me. It's almost like I was speaking a different language. Since I never got an opt out for either card I composed a separate letter for each card threatening them with my writing the North Carolina State Attorney General if they didn't change my rate. Plus I am sending both letters to their corporate office in Delaware.

If I pay only the $300 (more than double my original payment) on each card, it will take me 40 months to pay them off at this interest rate. When I called on 11/22 to find if I was mailing my letters to the right address in DE, I used my cell phone and didn't give my account number and just asked the rep nicely for a correspondence address. But when he asked why I told him I wanted to opt out and he said rudely it was in the letter, When I told him I didn't get a letter he actually said, "How do you know you can do such things?" We charged too much, but always and still pay everyone on time. This practice we thought would save us from outrageous finance charges. We were wrong!!! They raised our interest rates to 24% and they're probably not done. They seem to be able to do any thing they want along those lines. If our debt ratio is bad, how does it help to raise interest rates. They should be lower taking into consideration a good paying record.

I am not sure how much a poorly typed complaint can help when you're dealing with such power, but why not vent it out. Watch the CEOs of these large banks like B.A.on CSPAN. You see them laughing at the taxpayer. Their only motivation is greed!!! And they really don't try to hide it. Their biggest tactic is online banking and automatic payments. Credit line transfers make it easy to get fast money. Then they catch you sleeping, raise your rates and no matter what you pay the principal balance does not go down fast enough.

My basic complaint is they should be big enough to help not hurt. They remind me of the CEO in blade runner, oblivious at the top and totally uncaring. And I just handed them another 25 billion dollars.

We have relied a lot on these credit cards to help us get by. But lately, with everything that is going on right now in the economy, I have only been paying the minimum payment, but still on time. BOA lowered my credit line.

Then my payment came in 2 days late from the due date, and right away they increased my APR to the delinquent rate. BOA reps. are very unsympathetic and inconsiderate. The fact that I have been paying on time for years didn't matter. They just want more money from me. They are not willing to work with you. They actually transferred me to a non-profit organization that helps you with your debts and lower your payments. I told them that I wasn't interested in that, and that I just want my APR lowered so it's easier to make payments.

These non-profit orgs. work for them, and what they do is they negotiate a lower payment for you but you have to close your credit cards and agree to their terms to insure that BOA still get all their money back. This will also affect my credit rating. Since I told them yesterday that I wasn't interested to talk with their non-profit org., they punished me today by closing all 3 of my credit cards! I am writing to complain about the actions of Bank of America. Back in August of 2008, they started sending out notices raising their rates from 14% to the 25% level to users of their cards. Even if the credit cards were paid on time, it did not seem to matter to them. There have been various complaints against them in other states and in California. They continue to raise people's credit lines and then they send out notices stating they are raising your interest rates to astronomical levels if you continued using the card. I considered this a bait and switch program devised by their corporate office. I also consider it to be predatory lending which needs to be curtailed if they are to operated in the state of California. Even if one has done business with them for years by having their checking, savings, and other investments with them.

Being in good standing with them does not seem to matter. It is my belief, they are trying to cover their bad debt created by their issuing of credit cards to people who cannot pay them back. It is also my belief they are using this practice to pay bonuses to their top level executives and to buy other financial institutions to increase their market shares in the investment community. Many other states have already enacted laws to prohibit this type of practice on consumers and are investigating them on their business practices. They also pulled a shenanigan a couple of years ago to increase the rates for people who paid their utility bills with a credit card. If they are to operate in California, I think there should be constraints put on them to operate fairly and above board.

My husband called Visa to ask for an extension on both of our Visa cards since he lost his job and never been late, the representative said there's no extension and transferred him to a credit counseling service. He refused the service. A week later we received 2 letter stating that the accounts were both closed. We called and they said that they cannot be reopen even though we've never been late. We told them that it will worsen our credit rating and also told them that we've never been late. They did not care. We said to them that we've had a relationship for several years and once we will be done paying these cards off, we will not reopen the credit cards with them if they don't work with us on at least leaving the credit open so our Ficos don't drop, at that point the representative said, "Do what you gotta do." Wow - there is no way we will ever do business with Visa again. I will do everything I can to make my complaint known because this is crazy... I have never been treated by a creditor this way and never ever even been late. WOW.

I knew it was a lie because I had spoken to someone previously, regarding my account and they told me they were from Bank of America. I asked to have my interest lowered because I heard on the news that some executives from Bank of America were receiving $250,000 bonuses. I figured if they could afford to pay that much in bonuses they should be able to afford to lower my interest rate by a few percentage points. Both Chase and Citibank lowered rates for me previously. Bank of America refused to do it for me. This is the worst bank I have ever dealt with, and I have been dealing with banks for over 40 years. First, how ridiculous to lie to me. He told me it was because I had been delinquent but when I asked him when I had been late he couldn't find any incidents. So at that moment they should have reconsidered. Nope, basically he told me he had no authority under any circumstance to reverse the decision. When I asked for someone who had the authority, he said that there wasn't anybody who could reverse the decision. I told him that if there was never anything anybody could do, that they were wasting my time by giving me a phone number to call with information that they would use to reconsider when there was never the possibility they would reconsider. I called to find out why and they said a notice had been sent to me explaining that the interest was to be raised. I never received such a notice. When I asked for a reason why the interest rate was going up, they said it was due to my credit score. I said that was ridiculous as I had never skipped a payment or paid below the minimum. They told me to check my credit reports. My credit was fine, turned out. Later I transferred my entire Bank of America balance to a different card and they charged me extra fees!!! No one could give me a satisfactory explanation as to why except to say it was legal to do so. Their business practices are unethical and repulsive and I will NEVER do business with them again.

I called Bank of America some 14 times attempting to get a copy of the charge. I could not access the account online due to the stop put on my account by me. Finally a miracle from Bank of America - they faxed me the charges. I then knew who used the card, I paid Bank of America in full for the charges immediately upon receiving the copy of the charges. However Bank of America kept accruing interest on these charges and has now sent me to a collection agency. Bank of America agrees that they have records of my direct contact with them not the other way around. They also agree that they did not send me the statements in any other method except by mail to my home, which I was not receiving and continually told them this. Prior to this point, my account was always paid in full as the charges were paid as I made them.

I have been watching my due dates and now I find that they have changed the regular due date and the new due date falls on a Sunday again. To my mind this is predatory on the bank's side designed to make more money by charging late fees and raising the interest rates on those who feel as I did that when it is impossible to make a payment on the due date do to a weekend or holiday that the next business day would be acceptable for payment. The credit companies should not make a due date that a person cannot make a payment on.

Every month in 2008 the due date fell on the 18th or the 19th. Then out of nowhere they change the due date in September 2008 to the 12th. No reason whatsoever, other than they were scrapped for cash and used this scheme to boost their earnings from fees. I was charged $39 late fee and my interest rate went from 5.9% to 26.99%. I shut down my account and will never bank with BOA again. This was nothing more than a deliberate ploy to trap their consumers with fees and higher interest rates. I also have another card from BofA with an interest rate of 13.99%. I asked the woman if they were going to increase that one too, and she said no, just the Visa account.

I refused the rate increase which means I can't use the card or it will automatically increase to the 22.49%. Limits my buying options and I'm sure will lower my credit rating since I now have less credit. I don't trust BofA at all, and I'm sure my 2nd card will receive the rate increase at some point. When that happens, I'll have to cancel that card as well. We since moved to Texas. We had called them and asked to have the accounts close (we have several credit cards with them). We have all intentions to pay them once we are able to, but on Oct 28 08 to my surprise a police officer came to my home to serve us with court papers because we are being sue by them for the unpaid bills. Now with the way the economy is, with a one income household is even harder. You are put in a position to make choices: feed your children, pay your rent, utilities, gas to go to work, etc. The last thing on your mind is paying a credit card bill.

We know of the agreement you make when you sign up for the credit cards, and it's never been our intention to not pay but at this time we cannot, we now have to worry of having to go to court behind this. It's sad that as a company as big as them to do this to people. Of course once this matter is resolved we will never do business with Bank Of American again. I know that losing a customer to them is not a big deal as they will find someone else to sign up. But sooner or later it will come back to them and they will lose more in the long run. Not that I wasn't paying my bill but they were penalizing me because I had c/c debt? They said I called in enough time to get reinstated? So I still needed to pay the $175 payment and would receive credit on the next statement and the interest was reversed as long as I didn't use the card. I don't understand why when someone is paying their bill on time they have the right to change the agreement like that. How many people don't call in time and end up being stuck with the 21% interest or higher? I had two accounts, a VISA and a American Express and they both were down around 10-11 percent interest rate and both jumped to 25 percent! They have since closed both accounts and are KEEPING the interest rate high! I can't believe it. I also have a checking account with them which I will promptly close and move to another bank. I will also look for every opportunity to move the credit debt elsewhere. What jerks!

I have an account with Bank of America. My credit rating is great. Never late on a payment. I pay over the minimum. I do not charge any longer on this card because I am paying it off. The interest rate was 13.99% and I received my bill for October and they had went up to 27.99%. When I called them they could not explain why they went up. They ask multiple questions about my salary and home (which is paid off) so that they could check my credit. They agreed to close the account and put the interest rate back to 13.99%. My opinion of Back of America is that they are the worst kind of corporate thieves.

I have had an account with MBNA for 5 years. My percentage rate was 14.9% which is why I got the card. I have an $20000.00 credit limit. Currently I have $7000.00 on the card. I just realized that my interest rate is now 29%. There were no warnings, no late payments. I am at a loss. The funny thing was I had the same problem with Citibank Card. When they refused to help, I transferred my balance to MBNA who I called to make sure I would still be at 14.9%. How can this be legal, especially in this economic environment!!

Over a year ago, my daughter, a college student, asked if I could help her out in payments on a BOA credit card (which she should have never received in the first place, but as we all know, banks are greedy and have historically preyed on college students). She had the representative call me to negotiate payment arrangements. After speaking with them, I agreed to have $75 monthly payments auto-debited from my non-BOA checking account. They agreed to lower the interest rate to 16% with these arrangements. All sounded fair at that time. HOWEVER, they did not set up the drafts correctly, so almost every month, the statement shows the payment, but also shows a $39 late fee-usually billed the very next day-saying the payment was LATE! It is because they did not set up the payments correctly.

Also, the interest was never lowered as agreed and has varied each month, ranging from 28.99%-32.24%. Unbelievable... this is a nightmare! So, I am paying huge interest on fraudulent late charges that are building up, in addition to paying the incorrect high interest on the original balance. PLUS, the payment (auto debits, or pay by phone payment as it shows on the statement---another falsehood) have changed to $100 a month from $75. I have the names of all the people I have spoken to since this began. Everyone promises to straighten it out, but they do not. Promises to call me back with an adjustment amount are not fulfilled. I have requested that they STOP debiting my non-BOA bank immediately due to this inaccuracy, and they refuse, saying they must speak with my daughter.

Take note that they have spoken to me many times before. My daughter has ok'd me as an authorized person on the account several times. I asked them to please call my daughter with me on the other line to verify identity... they refuse. They say she must call them (??). So, we have to hang up, my daughter cannot get anyone to answer so here we are back to square one. Let me add to the fact to establish my credibility: I also have multiple accounts at Bank of America, all in very good standing--and I am a very responsible 52-year old adult with a credit score of 777 (last time I checked... at Bank of America no less!).

My credit card payment was listed with a due date of September 21, 2008, which was a Sunday. My payment was made on Monday, September 22, 2008 in the morning hours and paid directly to a Bank of America Branch. On my next bank statement there was a late fee added of $39.00 stating my payment was late and therefore I was being charged the extra fee. I called Bank of America customer service and was basically told there was nothing I could do, that technically I should have made my payment by the preceding FRIDAY by 3:00 PM to avoid the late fee!

I was furious. Why in the world do they list the due date as a Sunday knowing full well all banks are closed and we cannot make our payment. If the payment was technically due on the preceding Friday (September 19th) that's rightfully what should have been on my statement! I thought since the due date fell on Sunday, I was still able to make my payment on Monday, (Sept 22nd) morning without adverse consequences. I believe their listing of the due date on a Sunday may actually be an intentional action which is misleading and allows Bank of America the ability to charge higher interest rates and exorbitant fees to unknowing citizens.

I did a balance transfer on this card a couple of years ago based on the principal of 11.99% interest until the balance was paid. On my May 2008 statement, I noticed that my interest rate had shot up to 24.99%. I called the customer service # and spoke with Kelly. She reviewed my account and said it must have been a mistake because there weren't any late pays or any other issues with my account. She agreed to put my interest rate back to the 11.99% that had been promised. On my June statement, I noticed the interest rate was still 24.99%. I called again, and was told basically too bad - that I had been advised of the interest rate change in a little insert inside one of my bills, and that I had been instructed to notify them IN WRITING if I didn't agree with the interest rate increase.

I realize they consider that as notice, but that is truly a deceptive practice. Who in their right mind would agree to their interest rate more than doubling?? You hear all the time to call your credit card companies and negotiate with them, and that they will work with you. Well, NOT Bank of America! I wrote them a letter, recounting all the circumstances and reminding them that I have been their cardholder for 5 years +, and asked them to review my payment and account history and reconsider the increase. I received back a form letter, just repeating the same thing I had been told over the phone. Doesn't the fact that one of their reps told me that the interest rate increase had been a mistake, and that my account was problem free, count for anything?? I've been reading a lot about Bank of America lately, and it seems that I'm not the only one who has been defrauded by them. Anything you can do would be most appreciated. Thank you.

If I make a recommendation, check into joining a credit union that offers credit cards. No one can take advantage of you unless you allow them to!

I'm currently out now for 6 more weeks. But back in Jan 2008, when i tried to collect my benefits. I was only paid for my hospital visit. The paperwork says that they would pay $480/ day for at home recovery. They made no attemps, after all the paperwork and forms i sent in. Not to mention that I had to pay $15-$20 per form completion by various doctors.

Also, the credit protection on my credit card, required numerous forms to be filled out, and each time the send more forms to be completed with the same information. Then they said that due to lack of pymt on the card, the credit protection on the card would be cancelled.

Of course, we are struggling with debt. But it is rather unnerving the fact that i paid for these services, and when they're needed, the companies give me the run-around! I've paid for numerous forms to be filled out and still no response. Also, there has been a negative impact on my credit. All this could've been prevented if they had just done what they were supposed to do initially.

I recently applied for a credit card for Bass Pro Shops and received the card from Bank of America. I made a purchase of $429.00 in which I planned to split in half and pay in two months. The first month I paid $200 and then paid the balance of $233.80 the next month. I recently received my statment showing the second payment and was shocked to see I had a balance of $1.12. I checked my records thinking it was posted a little late and they were charging the additional interest. I found that my payment which was due on 9/15 was actually posted on 9/2 and I had overpaid them 50 cents more than I should have. THEY WERE CHARGING ME INTEREST ON A PAID IN FULL BALANCE!

When I called and spoke to their customer service rep he tried to explain this interest was for the previous month and their statements are always a month behind. He talked down to me acting as if I did not know how credit cards work. I explained that I have many other credit cards and pay them off each month and I never receive statements from the other companies charging me interest after they receive a payment in full. Again he tried to explain it is the way their computer system works. I explained that I was going to payment $2.00 to pay their interest plus additional interest the next month as there would be interest on the $1.62 for this month.

I told their rep that the company seems to need the money to buy a new computer system so they can keep of with other companies that don't charge interest on paid balances. Unfortunately it is these types of businsess transactions that are causing teh problems with consumers and our economy today.

In July I took a vacation. I returned home to find that Bank of America had let purchases go through using my debit/check card and began charging the overdraft fees. I remember being briefed that with a debit card that no purchases could go through if the money isn't available; how then did BoA allow 7 charges incur on an empty account?

I was not originally with BoA, I started my account 14 years ago with Boatmans Bank in Amarillo, Texas, it was bought out by NationsBank who in turn was bought out by BoA. I've only kept my account with BoA as they have been in most of the locations that I was stationed at with the US Air Force. Now sadly I am ready to change to a local bank so I can actually be closer to my account and anything that could happen with/to it.

Bank of America really messed me over when they stole my money by allowing the usage of my debit card and then charging me the rediculously high charges for something they did. I have been trying to catch up to other payments and just making my usual monthly house upkeep bills all because of what BoA did. How can a financial institute with supposed good customer care practices wring so many people dry with overdraft fees and then sleep well at night knowing what was done.

I had a credit card with a $5000.00 limit with BofA. They made two mistakes about four months apart. The first mistake was charging me service changes for a late payment. A payment that was NOT late. So I saw it and called them. After about 5 calls over 3 days they finally admitted that it was their mistake. They waved the service charges and my account was back in good standing. About 3 or 4 months later they did the same thing, so I did the same thing. Several calls over a few days with the same results. This time they explained how it was their mistake. Get this... I made the payment too early!

So they didn't count it towards the right pay period! Anyway, they waived the charges again and I was very careful not to give them their money too soon again. But where they stole from me is while they waived the charges, they still counted it as being late twice. So the rate sky rocketed to 28.99%! Once again, I called several times before they would talk to me about it (and I wasn't yelling or being abusive, I just wanted it settled). They refused to put my rate back to where it was saying they did me a favor by waiving the charges.

All of a sudden they changed their tune and it was not longer their fault. They said the early payments are what gave them the right to steal from me by raising the rate due to Late payments, that were actuall early payments. And because the early payments showed up in the previous pay period, I didnt' even have any documentation to dispute them with. So now, after several years (since I first got the card) in perfect standing, they won't talk to me at all about the rate until I've made 12 months of on-time payments!

When I call to ask about it I get talked down to by their terrible customer service, no doubt just doing what their bosses have trained them to do by treating customers like criminals. Doing business with Bank of America is giving your hard earned money away and destroying your credit. Remember, I'm in debt with a bad credit rating for paying too early! To the employees of B of A, you should be ashamed of yourslelves for working for a company like that.

Increased APR for no valid reason on a $4000.00 plus balance. Poor credit rating because of it.
