I have had several Fleet, MBNA and bank of America Cards for over ten years now, all the cards are Bank of America now. I received a statement today regarding my $16,107.45 balance and noticed that my APR increased from 9.99% balance transfer fixed to $24.99% since I was in default because a payment due on 8.31.2008 was received on 09.03.2008. This is my second late in the last year and my rate will remain 24.99%. Im currently unemployed and receiving $1490 per month and living from my savings.
I have never been late on any credit cards but since I had mortgage late on a investment property Bank of America increased all my card APR and closed all four account I had four months ago. My credit got even worse, and all the other cards started increasing my rates as well because of a lower credit score. My minimum payment on the account with a 9.99% APR was $285 and I was able to make that payment every monththe new payment with the 24.99APR is $585 and it will be impossible to pay.
I called customer service and explained my situation and they advised me that I need to speck to a credit counselor. I also spoke to a manager and explained if the payment doesnt go back down to $285 I wont be able to make the new payment and basically give up and stop paying and ruin my credit and possibly be forced to go into bankruptcy. He then told me that he noted my account and asked me if there was anything else he can help with? Having the high balances on my cards are completely my fault and responsibility, however I have been making every effort to make timely payments during very difficult financial times for my family.
And at this point it seems that the more effort I make, the more difficult Bank of America makes it for me to stay current. If anyone has any advice, please le t me know because I dont want to be a dead beat but the situation is getting worse and BoA is doing everything possible to make me default on my credit card loans.

I closed my account about 6 months ago because BOA jacked up my interest to 18%, I recently paid the entire balance of $7008 which was the statement balance in August 2008, I received a bill for $90.87. I emailed and received a response from Ginia that stated Purchase finance charges accrue on the average daily balance based on the Annual Percentage Rate of your account. If your ENTIRE balance is NOT PAID IN FULL each month, the GRACE PERIOD no longer applies and purchase finance charges will accrue from the date of the transaction throught date the balance is paid in full.
OK so where did I go wrong? i finally called and the woman actually laughed at me. i told her I got an email stating the above if paid in full no finance charges. she said this is a finance charge on a PAYOFF AMOUNT. yet couldn't explain why i was told no finance charges by Ginia and there was no mention of a PAYOFF finance charge. I asked so are you punishing me for closing my account and paying off my balance.
I understand with loans you call the bank and get a PAYOFF amount based and pay that off and usually it is not the balance of your last statement but more...this is a credit card and for BOA to treat their credit cards like loans is ridiculous...even when it specifically states no finance charges if you pay your balance in full each month it states nowhere that you should call for a PAYOFF AMOUNT>
I was laughed at by this supposed CUSTOMER SERVICE PROFESSIONAL. I struggled to payoff the entire balance and to get a $90 bill for paying it off which is basically what they did is insulting.

loss of job cause me to be late on a monthly payment. My APR had been 7.99% but shot up to 28.99% after that. I called to tell them I could not pay $255 monthly interest rate on a 10-thousand dollar balance. I was told I could partake in a program to pay $210 month plus 6% interest rate over 5 years. I was happy to do that to settle my credit.
However, a follow up interview questioned my lack of work, and how I would be able to pay the agreement. My question to them was that the way it currently stood was out of my hands, and that I would have to continue to default. Why would Bank of America not agree to help me settle my credit balance with them in a way in which I can afford..instead of allowing me to default at a rate I cannot afford?
My only option is to not pay my card. They won't get their money from me..and I will face legal action.

Bank of America tried to raise my interest rate from 9.9 to 24.25. They put a notice in my statement...which I never look at, as I bank online. I did finally find a link to a PDF file that was too small to read that was buried in my online information. I called and closed the account immediately, which preserved the 9.9 rate unless I was late on a payment or used the card. Card is cut up and I was being careful about making sure my automatic payment was still schedule.
Today, when I opened up my BOA site, the account was gone. I had no access to my card statement online. I called and asked about this and they told me it was Bank of America policy to remove online banking priviledges when an account is closed. Now I have no way of knowing that the automatic payment is scheduled and no way of knowing it has been paid. Account is due on 11th, comes out of my bank account on the 12th...and I will not know this card has not been paid until it is late...as the only way I know it has been paid is to look at my bank account and see the withdrawal.
This is another clever ploy by BOA to try and make people miss a payment. Then they can go to the 24.25% interest rate and there is nothing you can do about it. Stay away from this company. They have lousy customer service and will try every shady trick in the book to raise interest rates. I have a 720 credit score and this card was at 50% of balance. I have also never been late a single day on ANY credit card, house payment, car payment, etc.
Reviewed Sept. 4, 2008
I had a credit score of appx 720 prior to my account with BOA. They offer 0% intro which then will become appx 8% fixed after intro period. They intentionally sabotage your efforts to keep your account in good standing so they can charge an outrageous 30% (or so) interest rate.
They sabotage their customers by doing the following... 1) statements have varied due dates to confuse the consumer and cause them to be late 2) statements have no postmark so consumers can't prove when it truly went in the mail - also causing consumers to be late 3) the online bill payment system end of business is at Noon EST - any payments made after then is credited as being paid on next business day - causing a late payment 4) they charge outrageous fees ($15) for check by phone service - either pay it or be late 5) not mailing statements at all or after due date 6) when calling to inquire/follow up about any issues, they deny having received any prior calls from you
They also threatened me on July 24, 2007 that they were going to take my house. Internet searches have shown that this bank is way abusive in every area in which they conduct biz. This is my personal experience with them.
I was not able to transfer my account to another credit card company because they had effectively destroyed my credit in this process.. so then i'd be paying someone else a high rate. I had offered to repay at the originally agreed upon fixed interest rate providing they reset my credit back to where it was. They declined the offer which I thought was very fair considering what they had put me through (July 24, 2007). During that call, the man on the phone declined my offer and told me no way was he willing to do that because I did it to myself. Once that conversation subsequently deteriorated, he told me he was going to take my house and hung up on me.
I sent a fax to Mike the next day (7/25/2007) and demanded that all further communications be in writing. They never made any effort to settle this peacefully. I felt they didn't want to put anything in writing because they didn't have any plans to honor it. I heard nothing from them until served with a notice of suit. So now we're going to court eventually if I can't get the judge to throw it out from their blatant violations of both state and federal laws. This may cause me to go into bankruptcy or risk losing everything i own if there is a judgment against me.

I have been a customer of this bank since 1976. Several years I went though a divorce which devastated my financial situation. I ignored recommendations that I declare bankruptcy and vowed to pay all my bills, which were substantial. I had three credit accounts with Bank of America for $50,000 in unsecured debt and $35,000 in secured debt. When a check I received from a friend bounced, I received $350 in overdraft fees from the Bank. I called to ask about overdraft protection, and the agent of the bank suggested I connect my credit card to the checking account and I would save money. I agreed to it.
Then I got a letter from B of A stating that the next time I used the credit card my interest rate would go up to the default rate of 27.99%. So I stopped using the card, but the next month my overdraft protection kicked in and charged the account $60, so the rate went up anyway. . . .
Then this year I began to receive payments from my parents' estate-- $20,000 per year. I used the first payment to payoff my Bank of America Credit card. I receive the next statement showing I had paid it in full and I had a credit line of $23,000. I called the bank to ask for a replacement card since the stripe on mine didn't work, and I went out of state with my family to a wedding. While checking out of the hotel I noticed my card did not work. I had to use my ATM card to check out.
When I got home, there were THREE letters from the bank waiting for me. One said my credit was reduced on one credit line. The next said my overdraft protection was revoked. The third said my credit card had been revoked. I called the Bank again and they said it was because of the SAME credit report they had used a year ago to raise my interest rate... so, in my thinking, I have been punished for being responsible and paying my debt.
To make it worse, now I have overdraft charges in my checking account, since I was unable to use the account that was in good standing. I have NEVER been late on any payment to Bank of America. I expect that all of my debt will be paid in two more years from my estate money, but I feel like B of A has harassed me and taken advantage of me. I acknowledge that my credit was damaged by debt, but it is only when I am climbing out of it that the bank treats me this way.
I believe that instead of my credit rating improving, the loss of $23,000 in credit will lower my score and cause my interest rate to rise or jeopardize my ability to pay or receive credit in the future. I also have overdraft charges to my checking account

I previously owned a MBNA credit card (now Bank of America) and made my payments on time every month. In 2006, I almost had a heart attack when out of nowhere my minimum payment due was almost $300 and my usual minimum was around $80. MBNA had increased my interest rate to around 27%. I called MBNA and cried and begged them to lower my rate.
Customer service said they could not help me because they sent out a notice and I did not opt out. I explained that had I received a notice I would have absolutely opted out of the change in terms as I have opted out of other credit card terms around the same time. They finally transferred me to the underwriting department and the gentleman felt sorry for me I think and he lowered my to 24.99% but I had to close out my account. At that point I was desperate and 24.99% was better than 27%.
MBNA/Bank of America has since recieved well over $100 a month in interest from me and two years later I am still almost physically sick over it. I have barely escaped having to file for bankruptcy. I have spoken with Bank of America representatives and they will not help me at all. I will say that I have noticed a very small decrease in my rate each month and my rate is now down to 21.74% & 23.74% but with the economy issues right now it is so difficult to make these high payments each month.
All of my other credit card companies have worked with me but MBNA/Bank of America has not made my life any easier. Even though it is my fault I have so much credit, it is not fair that they raised my interest rate so high without notification. It will take me years to pay off the balance when I could be spending this money to help with groceries, gas and school expenses for my child.

Bank of America routinely issues RCI/MasterCard lines of credit following fraudulent sales practices in league with NH Krystal Cancun.
Krystal has many complaints. So, basically, BofA, is doing business with someone who regularly practices sales fraud. Then BofA claims that all the contracts are legal, which they may be, but they are DEFINITELY the direct result of FRAUD- Fraud: Deceitful conduct designed to manipulate another person to give something of value by (1) lying, (2) by repeating something that is or ought to have been known by the fraudulent party as false or suspect or (3) by concealing a fact from the other party which may have saved that party from being cheated. The existence of fraud will cause a court to void a contract and can give rise to criminal liability. (http://resources.lawinfo.com/en/Dictionary/F.html)
Many of the contracts signed by victims of sales fraud at Krystal are given lines of credit by BofA. BofA DIRECTLY PROFITS from lies and deceit, hiding behind legalese to obfuscate their ethically reprehensible practices. Currently, I am still contesting the charges, BofA, refers only to the contract and refuses to acknowledge the deceitful/fraudulent sales practices.
The stress this has caused the lost sleep, as well as ~100 hours I have spent trying to write letters , wait on hold on phone calls, have caused me untold psychological woe. And if these payments they insist I make on a fraudulent sale, through a fraudulent company whom against they have had MANY complaints, may cause much damage to my credit ( I think they count on this, the consumer bowing before the threat of credit damage.)

We use Bank America to pay bills. We recently paid off this account, except for bills that have come due. I just happened to notice that they have moved our due date to the 11th when it has been the 15th or 16th FOR YEARS. We do not get statements in the mail and I monitor the account consistently so I just happened to see this on a statement online.
We received NO NOTICE that our date was going to change. It is scary how crooked these people are. What can we do to protect ourselves?
I am scared of them. I think this is ridiculous. Why should honest people have to be frightened of what Bank America is up to?? This is just WRONG.

My checks are cashed one to three days after the due date (they are received well before) allowing BOA to charge late fees and increase interest. When I was told my interest would be reduced if I made a large payment by a certain date, and I did, they closed the card account. Then they raised the interest rate again and continued to cash my checks late. When I call, I am transferred several times and no one can tell me what is going on.
Right now my balance is below my maximum credit line, and they have raised my interest rate and minimum payment amount to more than what I pay per month on my car and for rent for my apartment. Aside from closing my account, but still charging nearly 25% interest on the balance and cashing each of my checks late, I am getting no cooperation, no returned calls, and no reasonable explanation for the exponential interest charges, manipulated late fees and the tripling of my minimum payment.
This is the only credit card that has caused me this much trouble. They have closed the account and reported to the credit bureau that I am at fault, resulting in a poor credit rating. I am being charged late fees because they hold the checks I send until a day or two after the due date. Bank of America's falsified comments on my credit report are making it difficult to get a new credit card to transfer the balance onto. It is making rent, car payments, and gas payments more difficult, as I have to choose who to pay.
They have played so many games and been so uncooperative that I have had to start taking anti-anxiety medication and sleeping pills because I worry about my financial future because of their unprofessional and hostile behavior toward me.

I own 4 visa/mastercards. All are platinum cards. All were obtained from different companies, but as of a few months ago, 3 of the 4 are owned by Bank of America, due to their purchasing the cards from FIA. Quite by accident, I discovered while paying one of them online, that my charge limits on all 3 cards with BofA have been taken all the way down to 100 dollars above the balances. I was in shock and completely panicked. I absolutely have to have a card with available credit due to being the caregiver for my disabled father and 105 yr old grandfather. Emergencies arise suddenly and I have to be able to either buy plane tickets or pay for medical treatment or repair my vehicle at a moment's notice.
So I called Bank of America, and was informed by Bernadette, that due to a periodic review of my credit, it was determined that my debt load was too high and they were lowering all my lines with them in case I got to a point that I couldn't handle them. I asked them why wasn't I informed of this change? she said letters went out on Wednesday. Well as of today (Sunday) I havent received anything. They shouldnt be allowed to remove credit limits because of something that MIGHT happen!
I am a 43 year old mortgage loan underwriter, and clearly understand credit issues and how credit cards work. I have NEVER EVER been late with any of these 3 cards, nor have I been late with ANY of my other creditors. I have been on my job 6 years, and have owned my home 5 years. She questioned me on my plan for paying back my debt, and I told her that if I am paying on all my debts, I don't need a plan. She suggested consumer credit counseling. Why do I need that if I have never been late?
One of these cards I have owned for 24 years, with no late payments, and one I have owned for 26 years, also with no late payments. She then asked me for all my income sources and put me on hold to see if they could release even one of my cards. I asked for just 3 or 4 thousand for emergencies. She came back and said I didnt have enough income to cover my debts. My combined income with my father and grandfather's social security and my job income and child support totaled over $65,000. Since when isn't that enough to pay my bills? She refused to do anything for me.
I told her what she was doing in the name of her job was immoral to treat long time good customers in this manner. They took an available credit amount that I had left of $22,000 and took it down to $300. I now have no way to pay for emergency expenses and have been physically sick over this issue since Friday when this occured. I don't know what I am going to do.
The first most immediate consequence is that I now cannot finish paying the rest of my grandfather's hearing aid that we ordered for him 2 weeks ago. I had put the downpayment on it and still owe another $560 on it and can't pay it now. The second consequence is that I need brakes on my van and can't take the car to the dealership the end of the week like I had planned, and this van is my only transportation for the wheelchair that my dad is in.
The 3rd consequence is that due to all my balances on those cards are the same as my credit limit, it looks like I maxed out my lines on my own, which will lower my score, which will prevent me from taking out an equityline to pay these off, which in turn will allow Bank of America to raise my rates next month because of my lower score.

Today 8/23/08 I received an ammendment to my Bank of America credit card that my APR go from 11.99% which it has been at for 7-8 years to a new Variable rate of 22.24% on all balance transfers, cash advances and purchase balances. They say that the only way to reject this is to notify them in writing before my credit card closing date in September which is only a few weeks away.
Also it says that I must not use my card if I want to reject this APR increase and keep my current 11.99%. I am not sure if this means they close my account or what but if I chose this option I am concerned how it will effect my credit score since this is the longest standing card I have. However, the consequences of almost doubling my interest could put me in financial difficulty.
Bank of America kept increasing my credit limit on their own. My husband and I just bought a house a little over a year ago and so we have more financial responsibilty than we use to. We have used much of our available credit. I have always paid my Bank of America card on time, but they are still raising my rates to almost double. I now have a $18,500 balance and pay about $400 a month $185 of which is interest. If I leave the account alone and let that interest almost double to the 22.24% variable rate I will likely never be able to get the card paid off. If I chose to reject the ammendment and chose to not use my card to keep it at the current interest rate, I am not sure how this will affect my credit.

bank of america highlights the minimun amount owed on their statements consequently I paid only $15.00 on a bill that totaled $18.00. This trickery cost me an additional $1.50 penalty. The $18.00 bill was the annual fee for the card! They should hightlight the total amount owed rather than the minimum. I have paid the bill and told them I would alert consumer advocacy groups of their sneaky billing practices.

Got their zero interest Visa card last year. They re-upped the offer again and I took advtange of it. Even though I have never been late or missed a payment in the last year, they suddenly didn't get a payment I sent on July 23 that wasn't due until July 31. Normally my checks clear four days after I mail the payments. So, now they've slapped me with a late charge and raised the interest rate from zero to 12 or so percent. When I called them they said I should contact the post office to find out where my payment was. This was supposed to be a supervisor.
Any [one] knows that the post office can't track mail that isn't sent registered or certified. They just wanted an excuse to raise the rate. My payment record will show that I was never late and always paid ten times the minimum they asked for. I was not having any financial trouble paying this account. I sent the last check in plenty of time. I've read that they screw people who pay on the internet as well, just let the payment sit there until it's late.
I have to transfer balance to another account and pay $60 transfer fee, stuck with $39 late charge and interest charges that I don't owe.

Then the interest went up to 29%. When I called they said I went over the limit when they added the 29%. I got charge 39 over the limit fee. Total interest fee 45.1. I told them I couldn't afford to pay. BOA replied you work we will take it from your pay. This is the only cc I owe and now I am face with Chapter 7 because of BOA. If they take from my check I won't be able to live on what I will have left. I spoke to a lawyer but he advise to pay it off which I cant or go bankruptcy. Had over 30,000 in available credit with BOA, with over an 800 credit score. When I applied for a no interest business credit card a rep called me and questinoned me. After several minutes of talking the agent said they would close my 19,000 line and give me 15,000k. I decided to just leave my account the way it is and thought everything was ok.
I later check my credit report and and notice that an account that i had with MBNA which is now BOA was closed...I had 26305 points enough for a free round trip flight. They closed the account and said no activity. When I spoke about the account I was told it should have never been closed but we are going to reopen it at 2000 dollars. They are basically closing peoples accounts for no reason. After hour of deliberation they reopen the account at 5000, but neglect to inform me that they are closing another account i have for 12000.

I have been with good terms with Bank of America until I needed to make a purchase on my credit card with a company that claims I must have me Billing address match my shipping address. SO I called Bank of America and they said they would add my office address to the billing portion as well so either address I use will be approved as if it was my actual billing address as my PO Box. After this happened, Bank of America closed my credit card and gave me a new credit card with a new credit card number.
I called Bank of America and they explained to me that all is good and this was standard procedure when someone adds a new address to the credit card. What they failed to tell me is that I would automatically stop receiving my paper statements. Now this said, since I failed to receive my credit card statement to pay, they (with no surprise) decided to bump my interest rate from 16.99% FIXED to 24.24 % Additionally since my phone call with Bank of America disputing the rate hike because I made a late payment because I stopped receiving bills from Bank of America , now every time I attempt to Make a payment online, my session immediately ends without the ability to make a payment.
What is going on here? I am a bit perplexed by this awkward situation. It make me feel like they are attempting to raise rates by any means necessary.

I moved to Texas in December 2007 and I received back credit card statements from Bank of America in May 2008 it had charges of $10.25 for every month up until June 2008. These charges were ongoing and I had no idea because my statements were going to a bad address in Mesquite Nevada and B of A corrected the address to Mesquite Texas. That's why it took me this long to question my bill. I contacted B of A on 5/8/08 the day I received my November, December, January, February, March, and April statements. B of A rep named Jerry called the insurance company at the 800 number that showed on the statement and had us on a 3-way call. I explained to the supervisor that I never asked and or ordered insurance.
The supervisor of the insurance company stated he was going to search some files and send me a copy of the postcard that was signed and dated by me. I have been waiting on this card since 5/08/08 and have yet to see it. When I call to follow up on the status they explained that the mail was returned so I verified my home address Houston Dr., Mesquite, TX 75149. Called back 06/06/08, 06/26/08, 07/11/08, 07/25//08, 08/02/08 and 08/09/08 requesting the refund. I was told to call back in a week. So far we have spoken to 5 supervisors. Keyona, Sam, David, Cynthia, and Joe R., 7 representatives. Frances, Gladys, Katie, Jerry, Brenda didn't catch two of their names.
I have asked for a refund request form since 5/08 and have yet to receive it. I do believe that they are taking advantage of me because I am a 71 year old veteran. I have had insurance from other companies for the past 30 years. This company is doing bad business dealings and I would like for you all to look into this matter for me. Would truly appreciate anything you all can do to correct this matter and get me my money back. Blood Pressure Very High from repeatedly calling trying to resolve this problem.

I too, have been what I call a victim of BOA and it's unreasonable actions they take for no apparent reason. About a year ago my interest rate was increased to 24%...and I just received a letter that now they have decreased my credit line to the current credit balance. Their reasoning was/too much in debt. Well, I recently turned in a leased vechicle and leased a new one. The 1st car had a balloon payment of over $10,000 and GMAC hasn't not removed that from my credit report and it is reflecting a debt which really isn't one now.
Then I have a new car that I have leased now that shows on my credit report. So BOA has decided that my debt is too high. When actually, once GMAC removes the car that I turned in I will actually be in debt LESS! Makes no sense, no one will return my call from BOA. I just get put on hold! Now my credit score has dropped way down. I pay my bills on time everytime!
I took my credit card to my credit union and I requested it be destroyed and the banking officer couldn't believe that they raised my rate so high when at that time I had a great credit rating and paid bills on time. Now I just spin my wheels paying them and 3/4 of my payment go for interest. It's just not right. Very fishy to me how they keep getting away with this!

I am owed $2262.36 by Bank of America and have made efforts to receive my refund for over a year with no success. Regarding credit card account which shows as closed in the Bank of America system, this in incorrect as a check that had a stop-payment placed on it was never reissued or credited to the account. I inadvertently overpaid the credit card account in July 2007 and was owed a total refund of $ 4524.72. This refund was sent to me in two checks. The first for $2262.36 arrived in late July and was cashed in good order. The second check was delayed in processing (it was cut on 8/6/2007) and was not received until August 21st.
Unfortunately, just the day before I requested a stop payment placed on the second check and requested a reissuance since an exorbitant amount of time had lapsed. I never received the replacement refund check. I made the following attempts at solving this issue: 1) Approximately 8/20/07 - Second refund check of $2262.36 had not been received yet. Called Bank of American and had a stop payment put on the check. Was told a replacement would be reissued promptly. 2) 11/26/2007 - Check had not been received yet, would have check reissued approximately 20 days from 11/26/2007 3) 1/28/08 - Spoke with Mary Luard (Manager) and Tiffany Robinson, were going to research status of account since it was showing closed? and has a zero balance. Could expect resolution within seven business days and a call back
4) 1/30/2008 - Carey Davis (manager) and Attman Barnett were going to research the location of funds and call back within ten business days with resolution. 5) 5/13/2008 - Rose (employee ID#513080L) was going to follow up with accounting and call back. Would escalate to be researched so new stop payment could be processed. 6) 5/22/2008 - Spoke with Lindsay and Josh McDuffey (manager), was going to research and call back within one week. Promised to follow-up and contact within three to four days. 7) 7/8/2008 - Bridget Washington was going to submit another stop payment on the check and review with her manager Schyler Copeland, Bridget called on July 10th to verify that she was following up on it. Should be resolved within ten business days. 8) 8/6/2008 - Spoke with Rick Sullins, transaction was pended and pushed out until August 10, 2008. Would follow up with Bridget; he was in contact with her at the time.
No response. Though I have made numerous repeated attempts, I have not been able to resolve this issue as I am promised this will be escalated and resolved within ten business day. I have yet to receive a single phone call back with information or any type of movement towards resolution other than one call by Bridgett Washington on 7/10/2008 saying it would be ten business days until resolution?. I am never able to speak with the same individual twice and have to start the entire story over again when I call. I am still owed the amount of $2262.36 by Bank of America but they seem unwilling to correct the problem. Their computer system shows the account as closed with a zero dollar outstanding credit because the stop-payment on check was never credited back to the account. I am terribly frustrated and have not received helpful assistance from Bank of America as this issue has been unresolved for over twelve months.

We had transferred a balance of about $10,000 on our MBNA card which Bank of America took over, with the credit limit of $11,000. It was a promotional low APR deal so that is why we decided to do this. We have never been late on any of the payments and we have always paid the minimum amount due, if not more. We have so far paid it down to a balance of $9826.74.
Last month we received a letter saying that they were going to lower our credit limit to $9800.00. This month their statement said that we are over the credit limit and hiked up the minimum payment to $303.00. We have not charged anything to this card and we don't even carry this card around with us. Is this legal to do when we've been making the payments on time and all of a sudden they say that we're over the credit limit even though we haven't done anything to make it go over the limit.
Bank of America is the one who decided to lower the credit limit, which is fine, but so close to the amount that is owed and say to us that we're over the limit so we owe more money to them for the minium payment. It really doesn't sound fair at all. Does it not matter at all the we are making the payments on time?

I only used $1,300 Dollars for the WHOLE YEAR! and was a few days late a few months out of the YEAR and now i owe an extra 2k plus my interest is now 29%? And i can't do ANYTHING? I have paid 1100 dollars thus far in a year on a 1300 dollar balance but now I owe an extra 2k dollars? I wasted so much time and money from paying late, interest fees and other auxillary fees that should not have happened in the first place. The bank has the responsibility to notify the borrower when the amount owed is due. If there is a problem with the medium in which it was sent, then the bank has to figure out what happened. How can the borrower anticipate payment information when that information is not even available to the rep on the transaction day, even a week after the transaction.
Unfortanetly i couldn't be on top of everything while going through my divorce. All i could afford to do was pay when the agent called me and asked for payment which was every month. Actually that was very convienant for me due to my current situation. (I had so much going on at the time) However the agent never mentioned that my APR had shot up to a whopping 29%, and although I had paid in a years time what I had spent on this card, My balance had grew and extra 2k dollars. The whole while i was thinking i almost had it paid off and was about to just pay the rest in full. I've just started receiving my mail and it looks that i was late a few days 3 months out of the whole year. I am so disgusted and i just wish there was help for citizens who get taken and raped by companies like this. I HATE BANK OF AMERICA BECAUSE THEY ARE CROOKS!
Bank of America never told me once (other than through mail that i haven't gotten in a year)That my APR is 29% and that I owed now 2k more than what was used from this card even though i talked with them every single month. What makes it worse THEY DENIED ME ANY FURTHER USE OF THE CARD AND THEN RAISED THE INTEREST RATE TO 29%! AFTER BEING LATE A FEW DAYS IN 3 MONTHS!!! I feel sick. I am depressed. And i feel hopeless. If this is what America is about then America is a cut through society. I would love to sue this company because they are going unchecked. PLEASE ATTORNEY CONTACT ME!

When I called to complain against they told me that the Vendor did not need to have a valid expiration date? Have you tried to charge a credit card that was expired before?
Most of the vendor with who I have monthly payment, cannot. Why and How did Bank of America let Sirius get away with it. Bank of Amirica told me I had to talkk to Sirius directly Which I did. However they Credited only part of it claiming I had 3 month of use time.
This practice to me is tantamount to racketeering. $42.47+ time on the phone dealing with both.

They refuse to provide record and reasons for rate change.

It's my understanding that credit scores are in part determined by amount of available credit a consumer has vs debt carried. I have also seen recommedations that it is best not to close credit lines with $0 balances in order to maintain a higher debt to credit ratio for improving credit scores. Both Bank of America and Cititbank recently reduced my lines of credit on the cards I carry with them down to the current balance owed. In the case of Citibank I had a $24,000 line of credit with an $19,000 balance which I was paying down on a regular basis. I was recently notified the line of credit would be reduced to the $19,000 balance. The net effect now shows I have my credit card maxed out.
In the case of Bank of America, I had a $44,000 line of credit with a $36,000 balance which I have been paying down on a regular basis. I also had two additional cards with them, one with a $10,000 line of credit with a $0 balance, and another card with a $300 line of credit with a $0 balance. BOA recently notified me my $44,000 line of credit would be reduced to the $36,000 balance, and the cards with the $10,000 line of credit and $300 line of credit would be cancelled and closed.
The net effect now shows I am maxed out on the remaining credit. My credit report has a notation the cards were closed at the request of the bank, which I'm sure is an additional negative factor in assessing overall credit score and with other creditors when periodic reviews are performed.
These practices do not seem fair for the consumer. It has a snow-balling effect that paints a worsening picture to creditors with regard to credit-to-debt ratios and reduction in overall credit scores. I am well aware I am carrying high balances, but I have been diligent in my plan to reduce my overall debt; yet I am being penalized without regard to the overall effect on my credit profile by these credit card company actions. Am I wrong?

Recently I called BOA to see if they would lower my APR on my credit card which was at a 2.99% rate for about 9-12 months. The promotion ended and now I was getting accessed a fee at the purchase rate of 12% APR. I have been with BOA for over 8 years. I have never defaulted and consistently made more than minimum payments thru autopay. The CSR asked me a series of questions to see if I "qualified" for a lower rate. After being on hold for 10 mins she came back to tell me, "...that there is no available lower rate". She told me that 12% is a great rate. I explained that I am trying to pay my debt down and that 12% really isn't so great. She then told me that BOA lowered my credit limit from 11K to 4K on a totally separate card. One I wasn't even calling about.
I couldn't believe it! Not only did BOA not help to lower my APR so that I can pay off my debt sooner but they decided to lower my credit limit on the combined cards negatively impacting my FICO. I wasn't using my cards to charge only to pay down the remaining balance. To top it off, yesterday I received a letter in the mail from BOA telling me that the 3rd card I have with them with a $400 limit and a positive balance (they owe me money) is now closed. They weren't even nice about it in the letter thanking me for my 8 years of business w/the company.
What ticks me off the most is that I am not in collections. I consistently pay on all of my credit cards and do not miss payments thanks to auto-pay. I have not maxed out my cards. And while I do owe about 30K I have been paying down, always a lot more than minimum and not racking up more debt. I have a total credit limit of about 100K. I see show like Oprah etc. even the evening news where financial experts encourage customers call credit cards co. to help get a lower APR. My 10-15 min. call completely backfired.
Luckily because I have been a good customer with other cards I was able to do a balance transfer at a 0% APR for one year. I'm sure once I have brought those cards to 0.00 BOA will send out other letters telling me that they are closing out my accounts. Lowering my credit limit negatively impacts my FICO score. The company has decided that I am a high-risk customer even though this assessment is completely meritless.

Upon calling Bank of America the customer service rep researched the reason: It wasn't for any late payments (in fact she was flabbergasted that she could find not a single late payment in our history!)
It turns out that we supposedly received a Terms of Credit change notice back in April; if we disagreed with the changes I was supposed to write a letter saying so. Oops! Shame on me for not writing this letter? Shame on me for not remembering if I even got this letter? Shame on me for not gleaning through lines and (probably) pages of fine print to get to the rub of the correspondence?
No!!Shame on BofA for these stealth practices that verge on immoral (or are, indeed!). But more shame on us consumers for not saving and paying cash for whatever we need - and then needing less. Bank of America indicated that there was a past due amount of $7.00 and charged me with a late payment fee of $39.00.
When I called and talked to Darrell Robinson, customer representative, on July 25, 2008, he acknowledged that they did receive my payment of $257.00 and would take care of the late payment fee for me. He indicated that he didn't know why it said my payment was submitted as a payment from a bill payer service and would research this and get back to me. He also said he would take care of the $7.00 amount which was considered past due. I did not hear from Mr. Robinson again, but I did receive a letter on August 1, 2008 (dated July 22, 2008) from a Krista Brooks, Card Payment Service Department saying they did receive my recent payment, however, the money order they received was damaged and destroyed by them for my protection The letter said I should submit a new payment within 20 days.
Obviously, this is not a lot of money but what guarantee do I have from Bank of America that they will not destroy another payment from me. Why didn't they simply return the alleged damaged money order to me in order that I could have it re-issued? Why should I have to go through the trouble of filing a claim with the money order company and pay a $12 fee; wait 60-90 days until it is processed, all because Bank of America destroyed my payment? What authority does Bank of America have to destroy a monetary instrument and what is my recourse? I received contradictory explanations from both customer representatives, and I feel they are not being truthful. Thank you for your assistance.

So last week a web site hosting company that I have auto debit for services set up with emailed me that my card had been denied. Then this last weekend I went to the ATM to get some cash and my card was rejected. Today another company set up with auto debit called me to say my card was denied. So I got motivated to call Bank of America customer service to find out what is going on. First of all the "customer no-service" rep asked me for my SSN over the phone and I balked. I informed her of my discomfort in that and she automatically took a tone while telling me it was necessary. I told her to look up my card number instead. She complied. I outlined the problem and she informed me that an alert from "MBNA" showed up at their ATM protection unit indicating that my card "may" be in a group of cards that were used at a business that had been compromised. For that reason they cancelled my card.
They could not provide any details of the business that my card "may" have been used at because they do not collect that data. So... they could not tell me if my account info had been compromised or not, and could not tell me what business reported the compromise. It gets better. So Debra at customer no-service says they mailed me a new card 3 weeks ago. To WHERE? Wait for it... the address I lived at 3 years ago. When I tell her they blew it, she goes off on me like an ex-girlfriend and tries to out talk me by talking without stops and over meto shut me down. I play for a second and then got bored. I asked why they sent the new card to the old address. She says thats the address they have for me, and acts like it's my fault that the info is not updated. She says when my wife came into the branch to change the address the teller only updates the persons profile.
That is rediculous that they didn't update the account info, and I reminded her that I am primary on the account and ALL statements come to my current address without fail. She just says "Well that's how it is". Anystoop, She will be sending me via second day my new card. I had to ask though if it would be a different number than the one on the card they send to the wrong address and she said "Hang on let me check" OMG! She had to check to see if she was stupid. Because that is what it would have been if she had done that.
So Bank of America cancelled my card on a "maybe compromising" and then could not notify me properly because of their incompetent record keeping. Leaving my family and I to find other ways to get cash on the weekend. This could have been a small crisis if I did not have money in other banks to retrieve. I took 30 mins not counting hold time out of my work day to straighten this out. Plus I had to get an A-full of attitude from the underling on the other end of the phone. Thank you Bank of America Customer No-service rep Debra!
The result is this. Possible interruption of my business website hosting due to the card being declined, and I will now have to contact each company that I contract with and use auto debiting for services and change all my billing info. Time consuming and aggravating.

my credit limit was reduced on two credit cards even though I have never made a late payment and I ussually make more than the minimum payment. I have never exceeded my credit limit although I have used 60% to 70% of my limit.
The consequences of the reduction of my credit limit gives a false sense to other creditors that I have max out my credit limit which in turn will lower my credit score which in turn will increase my interest rates on other purchases I make. I think the credit card company (bank of america) can increase my interest rate because of my presumed lower credit score. So, how can a credit card company can cause you to have a lower credit score then raise your interest rates because of the lower score.

I have been offered a 0% APR on balance transfers until next year. Knowing this, I made it a point to pay off my total purchase balance in my previous statement. I just got my current statement and I noticed that I got a finance charge.
I spoke to their customer service agent and after a lot of time explaining my case to her and being put on hold twice, she came back to me saying that basically, nothing can be done about it because according to that fine-printed, lengthy disclosure booklet, any payments made will be allocated to all balances from low to high APR. WHICH MEANS THAT the payment that I made which was supposed to cover ALL of my purchase balance were distributed to cover both purchase AND transfer balances. And since my transfer balance was the one with the lowest APR (0%), a huge chunk of my payment covered that.
Now I just have to eat it and pay that accruing 14.99% APR every month because I do not know how much of my purchase balance is being paid off every time I send my payment. To think that the main reason I went with their 0% balance transfer promo was for me to be able to pay off all my credit balances without accruing charges.

I was even contacted by a law firm representing the bank and I faxed the proof to them and their lawyer agreed that I had settled the account. Instead of listening to their own lawyer they simply hired a new firm. On Nov of 2007 called bank of america credit cards and asked for a payoff amount to pay all the balance on my card. I was given an amount and immediately paid that amount. After this payment, did not receive any more statements or correspondance from Bank of America. Not online, email, mail, phone. Four months later I received a very disturbing phone call from a collection agency demanding almost two thousand dollars they claimed I owed to BOA. Upon telling them I did not owe anything that it had been paid off, they proceeded to insult me and very arrogantly demand I pay such balance at once or else. (This ordeal sent me to the hospital).
Contacted Bank of America and all they said you have to pay, pay, pay. I explained this had been paid off in Nov. of 2007, but they did not want to hear anything further. On May of this year talked to a customer service rep. who agreed to send copies of statements since my online account had been denied access so I could not verify if their claimed charges were true or bogus.
From March 2008 to June 30, have spoken to more than 100 employees all giving me a run around. What they claim is there were pending charges after payoff. Also that there was residual interest and that the payment was paid late. The pending charges were included in payoff amount. The actual residual interest was for $253.00 not thousands. But automaticaly placed the account on default so the interest rate would go up to 32% making $253.00 into thousands, plus late fees and interest and late fees on those fees. Total mess. I told them I would be willing to pay the residual interest but at the original rate of 15% not 32% but they refused. On June 2008 they sent an email to contact them immediately which I did. The employee I spoke with said I don't a problem for you to settle for $300. and we will remove negatives from credit reports but my surpervisor must finalize it. My supervisor is at a funeral but tomorrow he will call you.
That call never happened so I call him and again oh my supervisor is in a meeting. This went on till the last day of the month when I was placed with a supervisor that was very rude and said there was nothing else to talk to me. That the balance of 1,873 was charged off and sent to credit report. The most I can do with the credit report is place a dispute which I have done all of them. But there is still a collection agency harrasing me.
I was very ill after this incident. And my credit history has been totally ruined. A credit line I was approved to make repairs to my home has been suspended. If I don't finish fixing my house I could loose my house and become homeless. Hurricane season has started and we don't know when it could hit here in Florida. I have a high balance credit card with a promotional rate. I had set up an automated payment to pay two days before the card is due each month. Bank of America changed the days in a billing cycle to 33 (since when do we have 33 day months?) this increased the days of interest due.
I missed the payment amount by $2 and they charged me $416 of additional interest. They did allow me to pay the additional amount online w/o a fee and they did reset the promotional rate for the rest of the period but the shenanigans of changing the number of days in a month seems arbitrary and punitive.

My debt consolidation loan was sold from MBNA/Wachovia Bank to Bank of America in the summer of 2006. I had a very good interest rate of about 5-6% and have never missed a payment. Recently I was looking at my bill from Bank of America and noticed that my interest rate jumped to 27.99%! I called BOA and asked them to lower this rate and they told me they could only drop me 1% to 26.99%.
I've never been late and never missed a payment. I am on a fixed retirement income and fear that I will be unable to continue paying $457/month on this loan. Most of my payment is going to interest. I also never received a letter from BOA stating they were changing my rate. Is this legal?

I had available to me 7,693 World Points on my Bank of America credit card. About 14 months ago I decided to go through Consumer Credit Counseling Service to make it easier to pay off my credit cards and had to close my account. I have never once been late for a payment and just last month paid the whole balance off. It was never explained to me last year that by freezing my account that they would take my World Points away, I receive a statement every month and even the most recent one shows that I have the 7,693 World Points available to me.
I tried to claim them a few weeks ago because I knew that I would be closing my account and I was told that they were cancelled out last year.
This is very aggravating to me because it was never explained to me last year that the World Points would be taken away, it also bothers me that if these points are not available to me then why would they continue to show on my statement every month? I have filed complaints with Bank of America to no avail so I decided to go to a higher source and see if this gets anything done, it is my belief that those points are still owed to me, I earned them, I paid for them in FULL and do not plan to stop fighting until there is a resolution!

BofA reported me to a collection agency, LHR, for a debt I knew nothing about until LHR contacted me about it, demanding payment immediately or else they would report me to credit bureaus. I refused. I did not think the debt valid because I had received no statements from BofA. The LHR rep was very mean and mocked me, insiuating that I was lying. I contacted BofA and they said that I owed the debt, which was originally $316.42, but was now $621.58 because of the fees and interest all the time I had no idea it was happening. I talked to several differnt people, many of which also accused me of lying about not receiving a bill.
Finally, I got a rep that took the time to actually check it out and she admitted that she could see that I had not been sent statements. But she said that a statement was a courtesy and I was responsible for the bill regardless. That doesn't sound right to me. I agree that I owe the original amount, but want the late fees and interest which amounts to twice the original amount to be recinded. She said I would have to deal with LHR about that. I don't think it's right that I should have to learn that I owe something and that my card has been charged off from a credit collections agency. And charged thru the nose for BofA's mistake in billing. And have my credit report tanked because of it.
I rarely charge on a card, always using my debit. I don't revolve balances, always paying total at end of month. Therefore, I don't receive a statement most of the time because I have not charged and have no balance. So it is the norm for me not to receive a bill from month to month. I may only use the card once or twice a year for small purchases. I simply forgot I had used it, and when no bill came, I was not alerted that anything unusual was going on. Yes, technically, my fault? Not so sure. And is a billing really just a courtesy? I thought it an obligation to be correct. Wouldn't therefore, the company be obligated to provide one in order for it to be correct?
BofA charged off my account. I had that account since 1990. There is the damage that does to my credit rating. Also, they turned the account over to collections, LHR. The stress and upset when they insulted me, saying that I had probably shredded this card and already started charging up the next one. Completely untrue. And asked how many other accounts I had defaulted on. NONE. And Said that they have already reported me to credit bureaus even though I have 13 more days to respond in writing.

Bank of America insists it did not receive payment until 5/19/08, a Saturday no less, and did not post the payment until 5/20. Of course I was charged a late fee and interest on the late fee. My bank insists that it paid Bank of America on 5/15/08.
Twenty years ago I worked for a company and setup a cash transfer system for a retailer which took less than 24 hours to consolidate deposits from 200 different bank (not branches but different entitites) locations into a central bank account. I think things happen a lot faster now yet it took four days for my payment to get form my bank to Bank of America. Where did the money go for four days? Why do credit card issuing banks get such leeway in processing electronic payments. Is there any tracking of when a bank actually gets money from another bank or is the receiving bank the sole arbiter of when a payment is received?

l also lodged a complaint with the BBB,that investigated the case and they subsequently gave me back most of the overcharges and they decided to close the account nad cut my credit limits on my other accounts from $32,000 to $5,000. I may have a high credit card debt but l had never beeen late in twenty two years for any credit lender. I think boa/fia are practicing unfair credit and loan systems. My trouble started with them because l refused to be pressured into taking a second mortgage on my house, few days after that l received a letter in the mail saying my debt is too high and that they have decided to lower all my credit limits. After the branch tells me the pay off is $ 14,538 which I pay BOA tacks on another $334 two days after as another finance charge. Had they increased my payment as they should have done more money would have gone to principal instead in the past 7 months % 2,387 has gone to nothing and my balance has gone up with no use of the card. During our conversation of what my monthly payment amount would be after consolidating 2 of my credit cards, he did not at any time tell me that my loan balance and payment included a 3% transaction fee. It was only after I agreed to terms of the rate and monthly payment did he then read me their disclosure. In the disclosure he did state that future advances would incur a 3% fee and so on, but nothing was ever said that included the current transaction. My complaint is that the representative did not at any time during my acceptance of the loan mention there would be any fee included with the opening of this loan and on the current transaction at hand. I had told him I had other options so he was trying to sell me and he did but I feel he wasn't not clear on all aspects of the transaction.
I always make my payments on my credit debts and would say I am savvy with credit options and pay very close attention before agreeing to any kind of loan or new credit. I trusted this company and representative and honestly feel like I was misled. Even after reading the approval letter I received for this loan, it does not state anywhere on that cover letter that it included any kind of transaction fees.
When I had started search for loan options, interestingly I was warned by another credit company that Bank of America was good at hiding fees that you don't about until after the fact. Now I know there was some truth to that statement. I called B of A as soon I found this upsetting information and of course they refer to their disclaimer and say that they cannot do anything. So, I will send complaint letters and see if there are any options for a trusting consumer. Please advise. Thank you.

I forgot to log one item (unfortunately it was a check for $250.00, that of course I wouldn't have a seperate receipt for besides the carbon copy attached to my check book, so I missed it) in my log. This caused me to over draft by $15 on a single transaction. ONE SINGLE transaction. ONE SINGLE mistake caused them to charge me a total of 11 overdraft item fees in the amount of $35.00 each! That's a total of $385 dollars.
I only make $450 every two weeks, so you can imagine how I felt when I found out that not only had my account over drawn, but they charged me 11 times and the direct deposit that I had just received had only gone to overdraft charges and left me with about $90 to pay my rent, and many other bills. I managed to get them to waive $170 of it. But, as I've read that many have received as a response before, it was not bank error, so they could not remove any more fees. The reason I am so upset with them is the fact that the only reason the lmost recent 10 over draft fees were charged was because of the very 1st overdraft fee. I know it was my mistake, but is there really a need to punish me 11 TIMES for one accounting mistake.
I truly hate the way Bank of America has handled my situation. I had to borrow money from my Mom to pay rent. If I missed a payment or paid below minimum, this rate would increase to almost 20% APR. I made my monthly payments promptly and always paid much higher than minimum. I recently found out that this promotional rate of .99% APR expired on April 2008. I called Bank of America, spoke to a dozen representatives who all claimed the representative who helped me must have told me this offer expired in April 2008.
No matter how many times I told them she claimed it expired ONE YEAR from the date of my balance transfer, and no matter how many times I told them to please check the records and see if there is a recording of the conversation, they wouldn't help me or even offer me a lower rate. I was deliberately lied to. I would have never asked for a balance transfer if I knew the rate would increase so drastically after a few months. No one at Bank of America attempted to find a record of my conversation with this representative, they didn't even try to discover her identity. How could she LIE without any repercussions?
I repeatedly asked if the rate would last for a year and the representive said YES. I am still shocked that a person working for such a reputable company could lie in that manner. She didn't fear consquences and obviously she didn't have to since Bank of America didn't follow up or even care. Unbelievable.
The increased interest rate has added so many unneccessary charges to my balance. As soon as I pulled my head out of the sand and read the statement I saw that they were using very questionable trade practices. For example, they frequently change my due date and then set a time I must pay the payment by (such as 5:00 EST) in order for the payment to be considered on time; next they started charging me over the limit fees because once they tacked on my finance charge I would go over my limit; then of course was the: we raised your rates because you went over your limit and made your payment at 5:01pm instead of 4:49pm; the last straw was when I discovered they were charging me 23.99% for a cash advance.
I don't recall the advance, I contacted them though and they said I obtained a cash advance for $70 in August 2006; I am waiting for a copy of that statement; anyway I now owe them $251 for that cash advance and have been told that no matter what amount I pay them each month, they will never apply any payment to that cash advance as long as I carry a balance; in other words, they will be holding my hostage and charging me interest on the interest of that cash advance as long as I have a balance with them; can this really be legal?
Even if I close my account; make more than minimum payments for the next whatever; the cash advance balance will continue to grow - currently at a rate of 23.99%; in 2 years it has already tripled and if they are allowed to prevent me from paying the cash advance off, then they will keep charging me interest on each higher amount accrued.

I called the company immediately and they said that because I didn't respond to the letter that there was nothing they could do. During my conversation they did say that I have never been late on a payment and I was a good customer for 8 years! I am very upset that this has happened during a time when everything is going up and families are barely making it by. Even though my income combined with my husband's puts us in the higher middle class bracket, we are still struggling with day care, food expenses, long distance commutes to and from work, doctor's expenses, etc.
For Bank of America to do this to a customer for 8 years is flat out wrong! They are the worst company to deal with when it comes to helping their clientele. Yes, they are polite on the phone but they make bundles of money off of people like me. Something needs to be done and fast so people won't lose what they worked so hard for. Grant it, when I saw the letter I should've called, but I thought I was okay since the account number was different and I was no longer using the account reflected in the letter.
Since this incident, I have closed my account and once I pay off the balance I will never use a Bank of America credit card ever again.

I have a Visa credit card with Bank of America. I had charged a little over $3000 on the card over the past few years. Recently, my fiance and I took out a personal loan to consolidate our credit card debt and get our payments down some. The B of A card was high on the list of cards to pay off because they had recently raised my interest rate to some ridiculous amount (>30%).
A few days later, I check my checking account balance and see that it is overdrafted. Bank of America posted TWO payments to my account. I go to their site and see an email from their CS staff saying that the first payment did not go through for some reason and as a convenience to me they posted it for me... without checking to see that I had already posted a payment and my account balance was now ZERO. So now I had a huge CREDIT on my credit card, go figure. I called their customer service and basically got the run around about it, but they eventually reversed it and my bank was nice enough to reverse the overdraft fees that posted to my account because of it.
That was quite a pain, but I was finally done with this credit card and ready to move on with my life. Oh, if only. A full two weeks after this fiasco, my checking account gets overdrafted again. Bank of America posted a THIRD payment to my account for over three grand! Without my authorization! On a zero balance! I was fuming. I spent most of my (work) day going to my bank (who refused to help, but that's another story), to a BOA branch, and on the phone with their customer service. On their end, the payment had posted as paid. At my bank's end it was still pending. My bank said I'd have to wait for it to bounce and deal with the fallout of that. BofA said since it was posted they could only issue me a check which could take WEEKS to get to me. They were leaving me out in the cold without money to feed my family. I was not impressed with the service they offered me. I felt I was cheated and that they had STOLEN my money. My bank ended up bouncing the check for insufficient funds, and again reversed the fees for me. I was told by B of A's customer service that it would be handled on their end and I was finally free of this burden.
End of story? Not quite. A couple of weeks later I receive a bill from B of A for over $100. For what? Well, my third payment on a zero balance bounced, so they charged me a fee for it bouncing, and then they charged me a late fee for not paying their fee... A fee for a fee for their mistake. This was just lovely. Customer Service made it out to be my fault (I had made the payment online, didn't I? NO!) and said they could remove the late fee but not the returned payment fee. I was fuming, and no one I talked to was willing to help me. Did no one take notes on this account the whole time? Could no one see what the hell was going on?
I gave up on getting any help from B of A and contacted the NY State Attorney General's office to file a consumer fraud complaint. They directed me to the Comptroller of the Currency's office, to which my complaint was forwarded. Shortly after the complaint was received by them, I received a phone call from Ty G (sp?) from FIA Card Services' Office of the Chairman, whatever that means. I explained the situation to her, but she still refused to believe that I had not made three payments to my account online. First of all, why? Why would I pay my account off completely three times? Why would I apply two payments to my account when it was already zero? Second of all, how? How does their system allow me to pay close to $8000 MORE than I owed? How could I make a payment when no money was due? I bit my tongue, however, and she relented to removing the charges from my account so that it would finally, FINALLY be paid off and zeroed out. This only took two months and a letter to the Comptroller to complete...
Since the two payments bounced from my checking, I have no physical record that this happened as far as my bank goes, other than perhaps a record of the fee reversal. And B of A still insists that this was all my fault somehow, and that _I_ posted those payments, even though two of those payments were never authorized by me.

I am extremely outraged at the matter in which Bank of America has handled my account and me as a consumer. I had NO knowledge that my interest rates were going to be changed until my credit card bill came and the account information revealed an increase in my interest rate from 10.47% to 23.99%. I called customer service and spoke with "Kimberly" that advised me that letters were sent out back in January to advise consumers that the rates were go up. I advised her that I never got any letter telling me that my interest rate was going up. She then advised me after looking at my payment history of having payments made on time and making more than the mimimum payment requirement that she would transfer me to the Rate Dept to ask for a decrease in my interest rate.
She transferred me to an account specialist that did not handle the situation or me with any professionalism. When I tried to tell this individual to view my payment history and note that I had not been late and I had been making more than the minimum required monthly payment, he kept stating that quote - yes, I see where you have made a little more than the monthly payment, but you need to make MORE than a little to reduce your balance more.
He then asked for my annual income and my husband's annual income which is just over $60,000.00 and put me on hold. He came back to the phone to advise me that the most he could lower my interest rate was 1%! which was basically no decrease at all, going from 23.99 % to 22.99 %! This individual then began to badger and and insult me with scorn and no empathy by telling me, Madam, if you and your husband are making $60,000.00 a year, why can't you afford to make a lot more than a little more of your minimum monthly payment. I told him that our budget and expenses in paying our bills were personal and none of his business.

I have a BA credit card since the mid 90s in addition to others. I have always been very aware of the predatorial practices that credit cards use trick uninformed consumers which are their common target. Throughout my college life and until today I have never being late in any of my credit accounts. Despite that I juggled money from card to card once in a while to afford school and to keep building my credit. Recently a have to battle this fraud which they call credit protection plan? Note I manage all my accounts online for convenience. In April I was going truth my statements working on my taxes and I found this plan charging my credit card for the last seven months. Immediately call and demand proof that I authorized this enrollment. This was the first call I did, they never proved to me or have nothing I signed saying that in did I have done this to my self. The only explanation they had was that I enroll my self through the telephone back in September 12 of 2007.
After that they went on and on talking about the great benefits of the program. I am just happening to going trough a family health crisis were I had to move my residence. So since they had enrolled me in this plan I saw the opportunity to get my money back. The people in the telephone assured me that this was a great idea because my minimum payment plus the benefit equal $340.00 only for march. Since I moved in January they would give me a retroactive for six months. So they send me the forms. I made the mistake of believe to this institution. I had no way to confirm this on paper because there was no paper in the first place. Nothing for me to read or keep in my records; a couple weeks later I got the paper work. Only one form and a letter that states I am activating my plan. No clauses, no explanation of how much money I am likely to get.
Again call and they convinced me this was a good thing for my situation telling me the amount of money I will get since is retroactive from January and I made clear cancel the plan which they toll me no need because when you activate the plan you dont have to pay anymore. I made the mistake again of not research this and have papers to back up their promises. Then I have to spend a month to prove them that I have no job and that I moved my residence. Send airplane tickets, lease contract, electricity bill from Alaska and New York etc. finally in May 14 they made a deposit in my account for 380.00 and charge me a financial fee of $34.00 when I call to ask for the rest of the money the answer was. We only cover three months for life event. We can not honor unemployment because you did not get fired you quit your job so become unemployed was my choice. I was not the one with health problem, someone else in your family is therefore you not entitled to receive the benefit. The retroactive was calculated three months before the date you moved not after. Those where the months that my minimum payment was half of what became after January with my move and family situation.
As you can see the institution always will find loops to not comply with their promises; and because I never had anything in paper. Well silly me. In the good side, since September they only have steal $675.00 that I pay interest like any regular purchase. I only get back $380.00 which put me in a much better place that other people scam the same way. Although in April assure me it will be no more charges from the Credit protection plan because activation in May the charge appear again. Note that I did not see these charges in my account because they do not put it in my online statement.
Every month of this year I receive the important news about changes of my account. The interest and the rules every month change in order to catch you in the minimal mistake. And you better pay that depth right away or you will be hook on super high interest for long time. Did I mention what would do to your credit? I have never default a payment ever and my business credit line was cut from 25.000 to 6.000 because my latest increase of my dept. And with that the interest has been increasing in case of default. Please tell everyone and be careful, I have no job and my situation is bad but if default my payments then I going to be in a much worse situation from were I just wont be able to get in my feet. All the time I lost in the phone and paperwork it wont be worth more stress to even try to take them to small claims the law is in their side. Because I receive money and follow the process I fell into their trap does not matter I never agreed to this protection plan in the first place. The only thin I can do is tell other people my experience hoping you wont make the same mistake.

I had a business credit card with B of A that was established in Aug '07. This was not a card that I applied for, they just gave it to me with a $1,000 limit. I used about $800 of it when they sent me a letter saying that it was an accident that they gave me the card - this being around Nov '07. I figured they'd send me a bill, and I pay off the balance. I never received a bill, but did get a call from their collections department in Jan '08. By then, I closed my business due to low sales, I was unemployed, and relocating to D.C. I told the rep that I didn't have any spare funds to pay, but I would as soon as I started working again.
They called again in Feb, March, and April, and I explained that I was still looking for work/working a temp assignment making barely enough to cover my living expenses.(I'm paying rent on an apartment in D.C and still carrying a mortgage in Charlotte.) So Mon 5/26, I tried to go to the atm to take out grocery money and it said that I'd overdraft my account. I called customer service and they said that they drafted $1,200 from my personal for the business credit card balance plus interest leaving my account at $0! They were completely unwilling to work to with me.
Customer service was very condescending and smug. Out of 6 people, only one actually seemed to care that my family and I would be out on the street. At one point, I've had as much as $25,000 in that bank. They were so excited to have my business then, but now they couldn't work with me during a rough patch. I'm going to close my accounts and go to another bank. If I could transfer my mortgage, I'd do that too!
This was done on my payday, so they took my entire check plus what was already in there, money that I had to pay rent and buy groceries for my children with. I had outstanding debit card transactions and checks that hadn't cleared yet. When the transactions post, they'll overdraw my account, resulting in overdraft fees.

Called B of A on 2/18/08 and spoke with Camisha who indicated I had met the stipulation and I would receive this certificate in 10 weeks (vs the 4-6 weeks listed on the offer). At week 11 I called again and spoke with Richard who indicated he would initiate the paperwork for me, indicating he saw no record of prior assistance on this.
On May 16th I receive a letter from B of A indicating I was not eligible for this offer. I called and spoke with David Kragenbrink, a manager at B of A, and he saw no evidence of a certificate offer being sent to me. I faxed and emailed him a copy that day. He said he would have a response for me in 10 days. On May 27th (today) I called and David was not there. I asked to speak with another representative and spoke with Daniel Gray who also saw no evidence of this certificate. I faxed Daniel a copy of what I was offered and he indicated he would look into this and get back to me. I am still waiting. This all seems very unethical to me and I am being strung along by this large Bank who sent me an enticing offer and now will not honor their offer.

I have had BofA credit cards since the early 70's. I pay on time, more than the minimum payment due, and rarely have I gone over my limit. Once a supplier charged my credit card without prior authorization and it put me over my limit. I use my cards for purchasing inventory, and occasionally to pay for utility bills when money is tight. I have a clothing store that I started in 1977, so they know my history. My credit cards are used almost exclusively in connection with my business.
About 2 years ago BofA increased the credit limit on one card from $6500. to $16000. and I used the additional credit to pay the IRS. Never missed a payment, or paid late. After 3 or 4 months I'd paid $3000 or so on this account, never using it again because of a temporary low interest rate and I wanted to pay off the balance asap.
Then I got a letter from them stating due to large credit card debt I was carrying, they were lowering my credit line by $2500. Fine, I wasn't using that card anyway.
Long story short, paid off another $3000, and then got another letter, same thing, lowered my available credit. They did the exact same thing on another account I have with them. Each time they do this, it looks like I'm using 98% of my available credit---not that I've paid down my balances by $6000/ $7000. which lowers my credit score. Needless to say I can't wait to pay them off!!! With the interest I'm paying them it won't be any time soon!
Their misleading business practices and manipulating my credit history have lowered my credit scores which makes it impossible to get a fair interest rate on all of my cards and makes it harder to stay in business. The stress of dealing with this is a hard thing to measure--but considerable!

I had signed up for a credit card through Bank of America in Sept 2007 and verbally told when calling to apply that I was eligible for their most aggressive interest rate. I proceeded with a balance transfer. When I received my first statement I noticed the interest rate reflected 13.99% and should have been less than 9.99% (which was my current credit card interest rate). I have to go back to my records/notes to determine what was told to me on the phone but I want to say it was 6.5%. My FICO score is in the 700s so it was not due to my FICO.
When I called to inquire thinking it was a mistake, the Bank of America rep indicated they have the rate to change it and did so by making it 13.99%. I couldnt believe the demeanor of the rep and escalated the matter and got no where and the same rude attitude. I then made it my goal to get the balance transfer fully paid which I did with two payments in May (May 9th and May 19th). In reviewing my account after the 2nd payment on May 19th I had a negative balance of 7 cents.
Today I was notified I had a new statement available online which had a new balance $64.41. I called Bank of America to find out why since the balance had been fully paid with the last statement. They told me it was for accumulated residual interest on the month priors account. I told them to effectively cancel the card immediately. The purpose of my email is to share the practices I experienced by Bank of Americas credit card department and how it misleads the consumer and unethically applies interest even when fully paying the balance.
I asked the interest cost be reversed and was told no. I threatened not to pay the interest since it wasnt right and the rep who answered chastised me saying I would have to pay eventually since it would ultimately reflect on my credit report. What can be done to address issues like these to the consumer? Please share any insight or direction you may recommend. Thank you.

I have only two credit cards so I am unsure if this situation is happening with other credit card companies. I have noticed that the above mentioned companies do not cut and send me a new statement until roughly TEN days after the due date of my last payment. i.e., a payment is due 2/14/08 I make the payment on time and my statement is not closed and sent until 2/24/08. I have not had my Credit Card for RBS Citizens for that long but I specifically recall that not being the case in the past with my BOA card. if my payment was due 2/14/08 the statement would be closed, cut and sent on 2/15/08 like clock work.
I do not understand the change and the advantage to me, the consumer, with this change. All this does is add to my monthly balance on my card which I pay in full every month and gives me less time to pay the amount in full. I feel as if BOA and RBS are trying to trap me into revolving a balance. I'm sure if I was a day late with my payment i would get hit with a late fee, what gives the credit card company the right to be TEN days late in closing my statement? it doesn't take more than two or three days for a charge to post on an account. There is no reason to keep my current statement open for that long.
There has been no consequences yet but I strongly feel that this ten day policy is completly unfair to the customer and with the economic crisis we are in as a country it seems to me that this helps the credit card company get more money unfairly.

In the process, the associate I spoke with, promised me that if I made a balance transfer of $5,000 - to my Financial Rewards points' credit card - I was going to receive 200 points, which could be used as wished. I was also going to have a 1% APR for one year, then after that a fixed APR of 8%. This month, I called to pay off my first bill with the accumulated 200 points. I was then informed that the 200 points could be earned through purchases only not balance transfers. Thus, they were going to look into this matter to assist me better and then give me a call back the next day.
Of course, that never happened. I called 2 days later, and after being transferred to different departments and explaining to different people what was going on, no one was able to help me with this situation. I finally, spoke to a supervisor, and she explained that there was nothing she could do about it. I asked her what type of customer service they have since it was a mistake from their part. She said that since there is no record about giving me 200 points, there was nothing she could do to help me. If I wanted to close my account after I pay off the balance, then I should do so. Obviously, she did not care about my satisfaction as a customer. Her only solution was for me to close my account.

We have Bank of America Master Charge & Visa Accounts. These are credit card accounts we've had since the 1970s - 80s. Both accounts are in identical names and billed to same address. We make a payment each month at the University Place Branch of Bank of America with one check that includes the amount due for both. The payment due dates over long periods have been similar dates.
Occassionally recently due dates for the 2 accounts have not been consistent - for no known reason sometimes been changed so they're not on the similar dates. If not carefully watched payment at earlier than usual due date can be a problem. On two occassions we have somehow not noticed the changed dates with result that payment posting was not on due date on our Mchrg. account only. In February of 2007 our Master Charge Account due date was for some reason set for 2/28/07 and our Visa account due date was 3/02/07. We noticed the matter ourselves and the payment was made by phone then posting on 2/29/07.
We were assured that our lifetime 3.99% rate would not be taken away for that reason. On the February billing the rate was not changed but in March unnoticed by us the rate increased to 9.9% - the highest rate on our account at that time. The increased 9.9% rate went unnoticed by us until the current 5/08 billing just received with rate just now increased on 5/06/08 billing date to 24.99%. Bank of America says notices were sent in 2007 warning of the increase - that the 9.9% rate would be increased to 24.99% in 2008. The notice also said that increases would exclude promotional rates.
We had another payment posting matter in February of 2008. Our payment due date for Master Card was 2/26 & for Visa was 3/02. The payment by one check for both accounts posted on 2/29/08. (Note MC & Visa payment due dates for months just prior and after were both on 12/01/07, both on 1/02/07, both on 2/02/08, both on 4/01/08 but in February MasterCharge was on 2/26/08 and Visa was 3/02/08. So far the increased interest charges from 3.99% to 9.9% beginning with March 2007 billing cost probably $400 in additional interest charges - the Mastercharge increase from 9.9% to 24.99% begining the May 2008 billing is about $100 per month for almost 2 months.
For the grevious error of having the mastercharge payment post on the 29th and not the 28th of February 2007 we now have added interest cost of about $600 - and much more additional cost will be added if we do not payoff the entire account right now. The changing of the payment dates arbitrarily seems in itself to be predatory - there is a very short period from receipt of the bill until payment is due - one would wonder how the dates are set and why for payment due dates.

Checking account was overdrawn causing a penalty fee (near future drafts may cause the same) as well as loss of interest from the monies being transferred from my savings account into my checking account to cover the overdraw.

I had a bank of america credit card. when I went back to graduate(medical) school, I was late on some payments in 2006. I called BofA and set up a special payment arrangement in which they drafted a certain amount out of my account every month. Every month since then it has been drafted. However in September of 2007 I had to call them to set up the plan again. I was told the plan was set up and the payments still continued to come out of my account every month.
Then I just recently discovered that BofA has been reporting me as late ever since September of 2007. It looks like I have not made a payment since August of 2007 eventhough they draft the money out of my account every month. I have been through both the collections department and also the customer retention department and I was told that even though the payments were made, it was that the agreement was not approved in September of 2007. I asked why I was not notified with a letter or something. I was told that they do not notify when a program is not approved.
I am a 3rd year medical student and a single mom. I cannot get the private student loans that I need to pay the rest of tuition and support myself and my child. There are no other loan options for me, I have to get a private loan, but my credit is ruined now. I may have to drop out of school when my money runs out. I already have over 260,000 in student loan debt that I will not be able to pay back if I do not obtain my MD. I have to finish school. Please help me. I cannot seem to get an address or the right department. How can I fix this?

I along with my other half have been loyal customers of Bank Of America for 20 years, and it that time we have had a Visa account and have always paid our bill. We were late twice but called Bank Of America and got told from them that they would work with us, then they turned around and slapped us with a $39 late fee which was credited back to us reluctantly. Then they increased our rate to about 32%. Then we began to inuire about our rate being lowered after being on time for some time on our bill and got told NO. We made a complaint to the Office Of The Comptroller of The Currency, right aftet that Sharon Tabor called us and told us that she was giving us a rate of 15.99%.
What she never told us what that for us to get this rate, she was suspending our credit card and closing our account. She did this without our knowledge or consent. We were told that if a person is late one time on their bill that the rate automatically goes up. Prior to this, my other half made a purchase for a computer, made the purchase in good faith, and Sharon Tabor stood in the way of the purchase being authorized. She made the arrogant comment that the purchase was not necessary. That if the money was for food or utility bills, that she would authorize that. Bank Of America said that they could close anyone's account at any time, for any reason, that they did not have to tell the person. Well they clearly violated their own credit card agreement.
It states in there that Bank Of America has to give a person 15 days notice before closing their account. WE were given absolutely no notice. It also says that if a person is delinquent on their account or over their limit, which we were not, that the 15 day window does not apply, but that notice still has to be given. Bank Of America had examined our account before and never took any action until we made a formal complaint to the federal authorities. WE believe this was done in retaliation for that being done. Also in examining our account so many times, it has caused my other halfs credit score to be compromised. That is not appreciated.
This action that was taken has caused us much pain and suffering and alot of unnecessary anxiety. I have had some health issues due to this. It has also recked havoc with our being able to get some bills paid on time.

I pay all my bills in the beginning of every month. Because I pay full amount around same time every month, I dont check all the detail of the statement, especially on this credit card. I seldom use this card. I use other card more. This month I noticed that BOA charged me the late fee. I am not complaining about the late fee. There is a reason my late payment. I checked the due date was 5/3. The due date is around the 8th of every month. I checked the previous due date online.
I dont know why BOA keeps on changing the due date. I found out that I got charged another late fee on Feb, too. If I had balance on other months, I would have paid more late fees. All my other credit cards dont change due dates like this. They only change 1 or 2 days if they change. I dont think it's fair to change the due dates like this. All I can think is that this is a BOA trick to charge the late fee to its customers. Thank you for reading!

I have five BOA credit cards, some of which were acquired prior to Barnett Bank and Nations Bank buyouts. A couple were formally MBNA. BOA had extended credit limits on all five totaling close to 85,000 due to the fact that I have always had an excellent credit rating. My husband has been out of work 14 months due to a cancer diagnosis in March 2007 followed by a heart attack May 2007. With no insurance, medical bills have mounted along with the cost of medications needed on a monthly basis. He is currently under a second appeal for SS disability and is still awaiting a hearing.
Meanwhile, the household bills still have to be paid and accessing credit cards has been our only means. I still have kept current on payments (late a couple of time to BOA) but with a phone call and explaining the situation, most of the time the late fee has been waived and the current intro APRs reinstated until now. I currently owe BOA approx 57,000 out of the 85,000 credit limit extended to me, but recently received a letter on each account that the credit limits have now been reduced to a couple hundred over the balance and the interest rates have climbed from an average of 7.99 to anywhere from 15.49 to 24.99 making the minimum payment in most cases more than double. I have a great deal of home equity, but with debt to income ratio, I can't even access it to pay off these credit cards. I am literally approaching financial ruin, but it wasn't because of lack of responsibility, but due to medical health issues that a growing number of middle class Americans are facing with the increasing cost of health care.
When a bank lowers your credit limit to nearly what the balance is, doesn't it drastically effect your FICO score? Also, I have Chase, Citi, Discover will they follow suit if BOA has thrown up a red flag? I have spoken to a debt consolidation company but they advised me that they have to include all unsecured debt and I don't want to involve the other banks that have treated me fairly, which includes offers in the past year of 3.99 and 4.99 for the life of the loan. I also have a 1.99 for the life of the loan. These are ones I have accessed to pay off automobiles, boat, etc.

I mistakenly signed up for a Bank of America credit card and was told after the introductory period I would have a fixed rate of 9.99%. Over the years, the APR kept increasing even though I paid on time every month. I decided to pay off the balance in full and called to cancel the account. I was told the account was closed over the phone. Three months later I receive an email showing I have an account balance. I called again to have the account closed. They stated the account was closed but at the end of the month after paying and closing the account, a finance charge was added.
How can they charge interest on a zero balance? They have been charging late fees and finance charges for the last three months and I didn't know about it. I hadn't received anything in the mail or through email until 3 months later showing I have a balance. They were only willing to remove 1 month of charges. I haven't checked my credit report yet. My MBNA Investors credit card, which I have had in excellent standing for over 15years, was apparently purchased by Bank of America in Jan 2007. During the purchase/transition, Bank of America was able to maintain the balance and interest rate; but, the automatic payments (more than double the min amount due) that I had set up, and had been occurring correctly under MBNA, did not transfer and continue under Bank of America. Since the only activity on my credit card was the paying down of a balance at 2.9% until paid in full, I did not routinely review my monthly statements.
Around Mar 2007, I received a call from BofA regarding my past due credit card account. Having explained the situation I was advised that I had to open a new user name linked to the BofA card services site, and re-setup the automatic pmt. Setup attempt failed, spoke to BofA rep who tried to help me; then, the rep transferred me to Tech Support who walked me through setting up my new ID and recurring pmt. Unbelievably, it still did not process my payment. Now, late again, the rep connected me to Tech Support, again, and this time, they said that I could not setup an automatic payment with my type of account (Business & Personal now both with BofA). That's when I requested a supervisor of Tech Support. Obviously, still not the solution. He had me setup 2 different ID's; and, on one of the ID's I could view either account; but, I could only generate payments by logging into that 2nd ID.
Once again, we setup the payments together to insure that this rediculous situation be cleared once and for all. After all of these failed attempts, they had raised my interest rate to 30%, charged many late payment fees; and, then to top it off, when I tried to call back the same rep I had been speaking to on 3 separate occasions, he was in a meeting, he was not in at the moment, I left messages that were never acknowledged or returned, finally, I was told that he was not at the number I was calling. Strangely enough, even with a first and last name, an extension number, and the city he was working from, no one could track him down...we don't have a company directory available.
After 8 months of this passed, I finally spoke to someone and their supervisor who said that in order to fix things, I needed to set up a payment plan. Since I had maintained making the payments for the 8 months that had passed, they gave me a set interest rate until paid in full, no more late fees, no collection calls, and no negative remarks on my credit report; and, I would continue making payments for the same amount I had been making. so far, so good even though I don't feel that they have fairly compensated me for all of the hassle and the extra amounts that were added to my debt with them.
As a result of their oversight and continued errors in correcting it, my impeccable credit score has suffered severely, other long standing credit cards have significantly reduced my credit limits, while raising my interest rates. I lost so much time from work, jeopardized my business, and negatively affected my credit score.

I called the credit department to inquire and they told me I was already late and as a penalty my interest rate has now been increased to over 14%. I expressed my disappointment as I was wondering why I never received a statement.
I thought how convenient for them that I never received a bill and now they can increase my rate. The rep was very nice and told me that she was going to reinstate my promotional rate and deduct the late charges. I called back a few weeks later after receiving a statement that said I was paying the 14%. The costumer service rep told me that yes your promo rate has been reinstated but your bill may not reflect until next month. A few months went by and still again I was paying over 14% according to the statements. I called again and this time the rep said no we were never able to reinstate the promo rate. She had no explanation as to why two other reps had told me otherwise.
If I had been told the truth the very first time I called and wasn't mislead, I would have paid off the card or looked at other options to save money on the interest rate. Meanwhile, I paid over hundreds and hundreds of dollars in interest rates because they flat out lied to me, TWICE.

My wife has a secured Credit Card thru Bank of America. She recently decided to pay off the card and close the account. On April 11th, she went to the local branch of Bank of America and asked for payoff information. She received a print-out from the bank and paid the total amount. She then requested that they close the account and return the amount she was using to secure the card. At that time, she was told it could take up to a year to receive that back because they don't know what charges may be pending on the card. I'm not sure why it would take a year to figure this out.
Anyway, just yesterday, she received another statement from Bank of America for that Credit Card claiming she owed $35.00 for an over the limit fee. She contacted Bank of America and spoke to Joyce. She explained she had been to the bank on the 11th and paid off the card and didn't understand what the $35.00 fee was. She was informed that the $35.00 was an over the limit fee - it had been posted on April 10th but didn't show up until April 21st. My wife attempted to explain to this nice customer service person that she had gotten payoff information directly from the bank and was never informed of that fee. She was told it often takes days for these charges to show up on the bill.
Her newest statement indeed shows the charge posting on April 10th and I am at a loss why in this day and age of computers, she wasn't informed of it when she received payoff information on the 11th. She was told if she did not pay the $35.00 they would not return the amount she was using to secure the card and it would go on her credit report. Now I know why Bank of America has so much money - they would make her forfeit her $300.00 for a $35.00 charge. This isn't the first issue she has had with this Bank. When she deposited a certified check one time, they held the check for I believe 24 hours. Her account was not negative but they still held the check. This kind of defeats the purpose of a certified check.
She was told if she did not pay the $35.00 charge, she would forfeit her $300.00 fee she was using to secure the card plus be reported to the credit companies.

I have had this account open and crrent since it's inception in 2001. I have had a couple of late payments, but they are rare, never more than a few days late, and I always notified the bank. At these times I was assured there was no problem, they would work with me, and even remove the automatically assigned late charges. Which they did. I was not however given information as to why they'd be happy to work with me. I find (now) that even one late payment allows them to jack up the APR. So, there's a real conflict of interest there. So, I inquired with the bank as to why my APR had risen so dramatically. And was told about the late charges the were gonna work with me. More like work me over with. I was informed that they were not willing to lower the rate at that time. At that time I had about $14,000 of a $22,000 limit used.
Several times during the life of this account the bank, without an request by me, raised my credit limit. I guess they wanted to make the most of the new higher APR. At this, I went to the federal government's Office of the Controller of the Currency. I was told this agency oversees the banks. Shortly after I filed my complaint, I got a call from Bank of America. As a result of the complaint, they were gonna re-revue my account. And this time, they certainly didn't lower any rates. They informed me that my debt to income ratio was incorrect and they had to adjust our account. That translated into bringing the limit down to just above the balance. Additionally they suspended the account until you bring the balance down by a few thousand dollars. And if that wasn't enough they refused payment on a computer I had ordered despite the fact that the order was placed before any of these actions took place.
To allow this purchase to go through would've put me $300 above their newly assigned limit. And since they didn't judge a computer as a necessity, they would not let it go through. I was told if it had been to pay a utiliy bill, or some groceries they may have been able to approve that. So, thinking I had a least the small amount left below my limit to utilize, I tried to use the card, and discovered it had been closed. I strongly support legislative action, on the federal level (have you noticed all these companies base themselves in Deleware?) to stop these rediculously one sided credit card contracts. I can't imagine any other sort of contract that is so slanted in favor of one side.
Bank Of America has caused me a delay in getting a needed computer. They have made my monthly bill skyrocked with there raising of the APR. And to add insult to injury, they closed the account.

I have an excellent credit score, always make twice the minimum payment and have never been late with a payment. When I called to inquire about the rate increase, I was basically told that not only was that card raised to 26%, but my other cards would follow.
I carry a substantial credit card debt, but will now make every effort to transfer these balances and close all four of these accounts. My home mortgage is with Countrywide but with Bank of America plan to buy them, I plan on refinancing with someone else as quickly as possible. If congress wants to help the financial crisis we are in, they should consider better regulation of credit card interest rates. Personally, with these high rates, if I dont have the cash, I will do without.
Not just to me but to all the consumers who now have much less cash to help the economy grow. With the congress trying to stimulate our economy, Bank of America is hindering that growth with there increasing rates without cause. Their actions may be legal, but they are not moral.

October 10, I deposited money into my account to bring my account at a positive balance and to pay my electricity bill, which still left me with a positive balance. When I returned home, I got a letter from BOA stating that my account was closed due to an overdraft. I even called the fraud department and the recovery department for BOA who told me that I would have to send proof stating where I was at the time of the charges.

For this account for 2003 three copies of the police report was faxed; however, they LOST my police report, and the department only keeps records for 2 years. I was then told by a branch manager that BOA policy's is that the consumer cannot open another account with the bank if there is another account that is charged off. If that was the case, then why were these accounts in 2006 kept open. Due to these accounts being open, I was led to believe that the previous account was taken care of. However, I sent the first letter off in June 2007 for the Charleston Detention Center. I keep calling and calling and still have not heard anything.
Now it March 2008, and I got another letter from the detention center and gave it to the branch manager at BOA on Ashley Phosphate Rd. They told me that there was nothing that could be done regarding it, and that I would have to hire an attorney to get everything straightened out.
Every time I deal with this bank regarding the same thing, I get chest pains like I am having a heart attack along with a migraine headache that stops after about 2 weeks.

Bank of America is stealing money from their customers. Basically what happens is they take the money out of your account for purchases made with a debit, they hold it in pending for 3 or 4 days, and then if you go over at all (even a dollar), they recalculate all pending charges plus the one that you're over--and charge you the overdraft fee on all of them. So in the end, instead of paying one fee of $35.00, you pay $35.00 on all the charges pending. It can add up to hundreds of dollars by the end of the day.
This is a crime. This is stealing from the customer. There should be some kind of regulations on these kinds of transactions to protect the customers. If you look on the internet there are thousands of complaints regarding this matter. Bank of America just took the food out of my son's mouth for a week. Times are tough, and money is tight. I know there are fees associated with a overdraft; and if you make a mistake, charge me--but this is out of control. One fee would have been fine; I made an honest mistake, but they charged me FOUR $35.00 fees. Thank you.
There can be hundreds of dollars in overdraft fees for one item.

I had made a balance transfer in November 2007 since they had a promotional rate of 1.99%. A couple of months down the road, I discovered that they signed me up for a credit protection plan, which I never approved. I was shocked to learn that they charged me $75 for three months. Since I make online payments, I didn't really check my statements. I called the customer service as soon as I found out and she told me that I would receive a mail, which would give me a number to call. I asked them how I could be signed up for something I never knew about and they told me that I agreed on the phone, which was a lie. The mail came a couple of weeks later and I called the number in the letter, which indicated that they charged me correctly.
The person on the phone said to hold on, then came back and agreed to refund the money they charged. This is not the end of my bad experience with BOA. In February, for some reason or another, I did not receive my statement. I have so many bills to pay and since I didn't get the statement, I overlooked to pay my payment. Usually, all my credit cards show up in one place since I have several BOA accounts but for some reason, this particular credit card wasn't on the list. I was charged the late fee and also my promotional APR was replaced by 9.99%. I called the customer service and the woman told me me that they could waive the late fee once the payment posted to my account.
I called back a couple of days later and a nasty customer service named Peter ** answered the phone. I told him that the previous customer service told me to call back and I would get the credit for my late fee. He proceeded to speak to me in an undermining tone. I explained to him that I never received the statement and that's the reason my payment was late. He nastily told me that they have connection with the mail service and since I have other BOA credit card that went to the same address, he insinuated that I was lying. Does BOA track down all the statements that goes out? It's not like it's a certified mail. I started to raise my voice since he tried to play a power play with me. He stated that he would refund half of the late fee.
I couldn't believe this kind of customer service. He then told me that since I borrowed the money, I should pay. I've been paying faithfully on all my accounts without ever being late and this is what I get for being a good customer. I told him that I wanted to talk to a supervisor and he told me that he was a supervisor. If this is true and he is in charge of customer service, then I feel sorry for the company. I even have line of credits with them and my salary goes right into my checking account. I'm sorry now that I chose such a bank to manage my money. I was told that someone would call me since nothing got resolved but of course, no one called me. I paid off this account since I don't want to give them any more money in finance charge. I really advise everyone to avoid Bank of America credit cards.

I have a credit card that was originally with MBNA and was taken over by Bank of America. I was set up on a payment plan: $300 a month taken directly out of my B of A checking account every month, paying it all over in a few years. They have been taking the money out every month. I applied for a mortgage with B of A and was turned down, that my credit score was too low. I always had good credit. I went to look at my score, and it had dropped significantly. Why? I was listed as 180 days late for my credit card payment for B of A, owing an enormous minimum payment. I pulled up my checking account; yup, they were still taking the money out every month. I called customer service and was told I was stupid with money. They claimed I was not on a payment plan, yet they couldn't explain why they were taking money automatically out of my account. I am still fighting with them. They refuse to take off the late fees or write to the credit bureaus. To top it all off, they called at one in the morning and talked to my roommate who they proceeded to tell all my credit history too, without finding out if they were indeed talking to me.
As soon as I can get rid of this credit card I will and I will never use B of A again. I cannot currently get a decent mortgage. My fiancee and I are getting married in 4 months, and we cannot buy the house that we want. They really have ruined my otherwise perfect credit.

Normally BofA posts payments to its own accounts on the same day that the online payment is made (and their online deliver by date assured me that it would), but my 2/29 payment did not post until 3/4, one day after the due date. In my opinion BofA delayed the payment in order to assess late fees and jack up the interest on my promotional rate.
To test my theory, I submitted one more payment on 3/6 in the amount of $1, and sure enough it posted on the same day. In fact, that $1 payment has posted, but my second payment of $250 (made two days prior) has yet to post.
I now have an unjustified interest rate hike on a promotional card that amounts to hundreds of dollars in interest charges each month.

I have been paying for credit card protection for my Bank of American American Express card for years. This, of course, is to cover your minimum monthly payments if you become unemployed, disabled, hospitalized, etc. I have been unemployed since December. The credit card protection program sent me paperwork so they could pay my monthly bill while I was unemployed. I sent in all the paperwork through mail and fax. This process took months, and while I was waiting for approval I still had to keep up my payments. It is now February and was told they had everything needed to credit my account $1800 which is the amount I have had to pay while waiting to get approved.
I was told now today (2/29/2008) that I do not qualify for any reimbursement. So I have paid hundreds of dollars to have this protection plan, and they gladly took my money every month for a service that apparently they do not supply. They have not heard the last of me. DO NOT APPLY FOR THE CREDIT PROTECTION. You will ultimately be paying for a service that they do not honor.

I have never been late once, pay early using the B of A web site and have never asked for an increase in my credit limit for a credit card I have had since 2001. I requested that my interest limit be reduced to the same interest rate I have been receiving in the mail and online as well as on the B of A web site to something lower than my current 24.75%. (By the way, even through the sub prime and prime rates have decreased, B of A has not reduced their interest rates to date.) I was given a short financial analysis with the credit specialist, and I was asked how I was planning to make this payment. I explained if the 25% interest was removed for a 12 month period, I can still make the principle. Direct Merchant and Chase both agreed and have been paid in full. The B of A rep stated that he was not going to make any changes and that filing a debit consolidation and or chapter 11 filing would be my best choice.
I had a bank representative suggest to me to file a bankruptcy as opposed to their getting paid the principle of my credit card. I could not believe what I was hearing. I called back a few days later, and I received the same information from another rep.
This has placed a great financial burden on me and my family - but I refuse to be late and or file a bankruptcy to destroy my credit rating. I never requested to be part of such a program, and after seeing that I would be charged monthly, 95 cents per $100 of my balance, I definitely wanted to end participation in this program and figure out why I had been automatically signed up for such a program without my consent. I called the program phone line: 1.888.668.6938. A representative told me that on 2/11/08, I had spoken to a representative about the program and opted into the program, thus I was receiving the welcome package and monthly charges would start soon. On 2/11/08, I did in fact call Bank of America credit card in order to change the last name on my account and receive a new replacement card, as I had recently gotten married and my last name had legally changed. NEVER in that conversation did I say I wanted to be part of the Credit Protection Plus program, nor do I even recall the representative telling me anything about the program.
I have been a loyal BOA customer in good standing for over 10 years and this blows my mind that Bank of America might be scamming customers who don't monitor their BOA mail closely, much less their monthly statements (I, myself am set up on automatic e-bill payment and rarely receive BOA correspondence in traditional mail.) Either the representative who assisted me on 2/11/08 with my name change inadvertently, or purposefully, selected my account to receive this plan, or Bank of America is automatically enrolling many BOA credit card customers without their consent (either because they request a replacement card or other factors) is corporately abhorrent and irresponsible.
Had I not caught this early and canceled the program I was signed up for without my consent, I would have been charged $80 monthly on my credit card bill. I caught this early, so I was not charged anything.

This is a follow-up to my previously posted complaint on Bank Of America (then, MBNA America). I had complained about high interest rates on an unsecured re-accessible installment loan. Regardless of the fact that my credit score has since reached well over the 700 mark, BOA still refuses to budge on my 27.98 % interest rate assigned to this account. This is 1/100th of a percent under their DEFAULT RATE. Also, since my complaint was posted on your website, I have lost the re-accessible portion of this loan agreement, and my credit line has been DECREASED to an amount just over my current balance. BOA will NOT allow me to take additional credit from this account which I feel defeats the purpose of having this revolving re-accessible line of credit.
I feel BOA does monitor your website, and is fully aware that my complaint went national, and that I am being charged the high rate as a penalty for the previous complaint. Please post this complaint so other people are aware of the sneaky tactics that BOA took with the MBNA merger.

I feel I was charged an unfair amount of overdraft fees. I understanding the bank allowing a few transactions to post and clear with overdraft fees attached if funds were not available in the account; but in our case, they allowed 13 of them to post and clear, each with a $35 fee attached. I take the blame of not being on top of my finances, but according to Amy Borah, the supervisor I spoke with, there is no limit to these fees except that they can charge up to 5 a day for 120 days. In our case with most of these 13 overdraft charges, the original charge was very minimal, actually 10 of them were less than the fee itself. In conversation with Amy Borah, she could not answer my specific questions of how many charges that BofA would have allowed us to be charged before our debit card was declined at the merchant. Instead she repeatedly accused me of my lack of responsibility with my own account balance (which I accept) and hung up the phone before I was done talking.
I feel my wife and I were robbed, I feel my questions are unanswered, and I feel extremely betrayed by the banking institution that we trust our money with. My complaint is that Bank of America is not more responsible with my money by not allowing me to spend money that is not in my account. Again, I understand one or two charges allowed to clear with an overdraft fee, but 13 of them at $35 each I do not. Why is my debit card allowed to clear a $4.62 charge from Starbucks when my account is already -$417.88, four days since my account began to be charged overdraft fees?
I have 13 overdraft fees adding up to $455. I spent one hour on the phone with the bank, 45 minutes of that spent on hold, ending by being hung up on by a supervisor, leaving me more frustrated and bewildered than before the call--with the only way to get back in hold of the bank being a 45 minute wait time.

The interest rate is being increased so quickly that the balance has increased also. My balance includes two categories. One is at 8.9% for the life of the loan and the other which was only a little higher continues to increase.
My entire payment goes to the lower interest balance, and the balance with the highest rate does not receive any of the funds. The balance with the higher interest rate keeps growing in proportion to the interest rate increases. My balance is now over a thousand dollars more than a year ago. I have sent opt out letters by regular mail and certified mail and will send more until the final date. I DO NOT trust them. I still do not believe BOA will hold my APR at 8.9% because of my experience previously.
My husband passed away in 2003, and I had two BOA visa cards at the time. I no longer needed two cards so I had the one my husband used closed down (@ 7.9% APR). BOA informed me that that account would stay at 7.9% for the duration of that bill owed (fixed). I was paying monthly payments on time and double the minimum to pay it off. Sometime in 2007 my rate went up to 14.99% with no warning. Now I had double the minimum. I always paid on time (no late charges). When I called BOA asking about why and how could they raise the APR on a closed fixed rate account, the person answered because we can. I couldn't believe the arrogance. She also said that I had been sent a letter to inform me of the raise and a chance to opt out by a certain date or close the account and keep the 7.9%. I never received that letter. The Account was already closed. After that conversation, I proceeded to moved part of the bill to a 0% interest account to help out.
What I'm afraid of is after I OPT OUT of my other account, what is to stop BOA from raising the rate anyway like they did last year? Like most everyone else, my interest rate shot up from 15% to 23.99%. Also like most everyone else, I had never made a late payment, was not near my credit limit, and had no other late payments to any other creditors. This company has lost billions of dollars in the sub-prime mortgage mess, and coupled with their acquisition of Countrywide mortgage, this has no doubt put them in an urgent need for cash. Do they think that we are that dense that we can't put two and two together and see their reasoning for these across-the-board rate hikes? At the risk of alienating their best customers, they made the decision to go after quick and easy money. This is an outrage and an outright affront to people like me who have always paid on time and as agreed, and maintain a good credit score. Bank of America needs to be reigned in NOW.
If we think the economy has been impacted by the housing debacle, just wait until we see the impact of all the millions of people who can't pay their bills (and won't be spending ANY money on anything extra) because every cent they have will be going out to GREEDY banks. While our elected officials are busy worrying about Wall Street they better take a moment to address this issue because the economic ramifications are right around the corner! She said it was the late fee. I said that is ridiculous since the two amounts do not add up. I had a clue it was the interest rate increase from 0.00% to 15.99%, but I wanted to see if the rep also was aware of this. Well she was not because I had to bring it to her attention. She told me that the interest rate increase was due to the missed payment. I explained that I did not receive a billing statement for the Jan. '08 payment, and that is why I forgot to make the payment. I know it is my responsibility to make the payment regardless if I receive a statement or not, but what upset me is that this was the first time this had happened, and I had no previous lates.
BofA refused to make any exceptions but agreed to waive $30.00 out of the $39.00. I was happy for that and even though it unusual to waive only a portion of the late charge, but I kept my mouth shut. This is not the only time Bank of America has increased my interest rate. I had a 9.9% which was increased to 47% due again to my forgetting to make the payment on time. Why does it seem like the banks are waiting for you to mess up so they can slap these outrageous rates on you? I have been a BofA customer for over 20 years, and they have never offered me a lower interest rate for being a good, paying, loyal customer. I am afraid that all or most of these financial institutions have become predators, and the consumers are paying for it. Congress ought to be taking a closer look at these situations. Since it is virtually impossible to live in America without credit, I feel that we the consumers are held over a barrel. The irony of it all, is that these institutions cannot survive without the customers.
Case in point: I have since paid off the BofA credit card with an offer from another credit card company with a 4.99% rate until balance is paid in full. I guess I am on this merry-go-round until I can gain financial independence. I have since also written a letter to a Beth Kane at Bank of America to voice my complaint. I already know what the response is going to be: Sorry Mr. consumer, we are not in the business of giving and caring, but rather we are in the business of taking what little you have. I have an A-1 credit rating. Nothing short of. While I have debt, I pay all of my bills on time, and I pay more than the minimum due on each credit card every month. A month ago I took advantage of a Bank of America offer they had been making ceaselessly. It was to get a cash advance of $5000, or any amount I chose up to my limit, at 3% interest until October of this year, whereupon the interest rate would go to the current APR - in my case 11%. My last statement arrived a few days ago, and I saw the APR for my entire account had doubled to 22%. I called them, and I was told that the interest rate had doubled because of the amount of credit card debt I had. I was incredulous. I said, "You made it easy for me to borrow $5,000 so that my debt would rise and you could use that excuse to double the interest rate? I'm being penalized for taking advantage of your offer?"
This is how they responded to my complaint. They will freeze the interest rate at 11% as long as I do not use the card for any purchase, big or small. One purchase, and the rate shoots up to 22%--including the $5,000 I borrowed. They also lowered my credit limit from $20,000 to $17,000. Insult and injury. My next move will be to close the account, making sure the 11% is locked in, and then do my very best to pay it down quickly with cash and balance transfers from lower interest cards. The whole thing is outrageous! Once shed of this debt, I will never again have anything to do with Bank of America.
I am concerned that Bank of America's actions here will adversely affect my credit rating and my contracts with low-interest cards.

Bank of America has had an incredible amount of complaints regarding NSF charges as well as their Online Banking system. Per Bank of America employees' admissions, Bank of America will post the largest transaction amount from your account to create overdrafts. Online Banking customer service reps have told me of these complaints off the record. If for instance, you have $100 balance per online banking at the end of business, and you make several debit card purchases that evening, they will choose to deduct the higher amount first instead of the lesser amounts. Online banking is inconsistent and misleading. They've explained policies to me that change from rep to rep. When customer service is contacted, most representatives are condescending and judgmental that you've overdrawn your account. This is how the bank makes money.
It's outrageous that I've repeatedly been charged hundreds of dollars in one day for several transactions under $10, when the bank could have posted these lesser amount transactions first as opposed to the largest one to create an overdraft. As soon as I get my tax refund, I'm transferring direct deposit and all funds to my credit union. What Bank of America does to people (especially people who struggle financially every day) is borderline illegal--if at least deceptive. Bank of America should be investigated and featured on a television news program. Finally, it's ironic, but I've been with Bank of America for over 20 years. You'd think they'd cut a loyal customer some slack.
Needless to say, I've paid hundreds (and I mean hundreds) of dollars in unnecessary NSF charges. As a single mother struggling financially every day, I've not paid bills, not purchased food, and have lost sleep because I don't have the money that I've paid in these NSF charges. I feel totally helpless because I know that Bank of America has not been investigated and their practices will not be exposed.

I paid off my visa bill because I, too, had gotten notice that my interest rate would increase. I paid off the full balance, on 1/23/07. The bill was due 1/27/08. Today I received a bill for $127.00 in trailing interest. When I called and asked about the grace period and that I paid what was due on the bill, the CSR stated that they had no idea when I was going to pay my bill, and they needed to charge interest. I stated that I was a retiree with BoA and how disappointed with the practices that BoA has adopted. The operator made be feel dumb by stating, "Well if you are a retiree you must know about trailing interest."
So then when I pay this off trailing interest, will they charge me trailing interest on the trailing interest? It seems like you can never pay off any account of BoA. How is the consumer being protected from these predators? I am shocked that our country has allowed these practices to happen. For the record: I will undoubtedly close out every single account with BoA, but we don't know how far reaching their fingers are. I am very scared that they are running amok, and our congress cannot stop them. HELP!
I am under great stress and feel hopeless that there is nothing I can do to be a good consumer. I thought I was getting debt-free, one credit card at a time, then--wham--they hit me with another charge and another charge and then change the rules. I do not have much debt, but I think about other families that do. They will never, ever, ever get out from this burden unless Congress does something.

Bank of America Credit Card charged me for something called credit insurance plan coverage. It is a minimal amount but one that will add up. I did not authorize this nor do I want this. I spoke with 7 people within a two day period to try to get them to remove these charges. I even reported it as a fraudulent charge, which I believe it is. I don't speak with credit card sales people over the phone, and I don't check off any boxes when I pay my bills. I do not believe it was an error; I believe they purposely attach it to people's credit cards without their permission. Each person I spoke with said it was not their department, and they would transfer me to the right department. I would wait out the endless hold time for each new person to answer. I was also told I could not report it as fraud because it was Bank of America. I would like to know how many other people they are ripping off.
I have since closed my account, and now they would not remove these illegal charges. I will not pay for them, and they told me it would be reported on my credit report. I wish there was a way of reaching someone who actually cared at that company. We were going to use Country Wide for a home loan, but I will not use any company associated with Bank of America.
I wasted an hour of total hold time and transfer time to 6 different people. I will have a negative mark on my credit report which will affect my future borrowing rates. Personally it was a minimal amount of money, but I think it you added up how many people they are charging $5 a month, it might be worth a look. Thank you.

At least we opened the letter. We will opt out and never use Bank of America again. Since I manage a lot of money for other families, I have decided to move it out of the Bank of America to JP Morgan.

Their statement was the following: "With all the credit card companies raising interest rates, we have raised the interest rates on all of our credit cards to at least a rate of 21% in order to remain competitive." Even though I have no late payments with BofA or any late payments with ANY company and a credit score well above 700, I have to pay this rate that is usually reserved for those who just came out of bankruptcy. According to BofA, this is what they are doing to ALL credit cards. A quick check with my friends and family seems to confirm that. My mom, who has no credit debt and a perfect credit report, has to pay 21%.
Since the companies such as BofA are placing these notices in areas of our statements that are nearly impossible to see or read, we are getting slammed with high credit fees that we would've never agreed to. What is with this?

My credit card was through MBNA, since 2005, and I never had a problem with them. My payment was always due on the 15th of the month. A few months ago (Nov 07) my payment due date changed to the 14th- and I got stuck with a late charge because of the change in date. I called customer service and complained and they refunded the late fee that they added to my credit card bill, then informed me my due date varies and I can expect it to be anywhere from the 14-16th of the month. Well in Jan 08, I went online to pay on the 14th (as I was told that was the earliest date I can expect a payment due) and turns out it was due on the 13th! So I got another late charge of $40 dollars!
I called customer service again and the rude lady I spoke to told me that they have already refunded enough charges for me in the past- implying the ridiculous notion that they should be able to take and keep my money- all the charges that they said they refunded in the past was MY money due to THEIR mistakes! So she would not remove the late fee- because they had already fixed enough of the problems THEY caused. The lady then informed me that my next payment was due on the 15th. I checked online and it turns out it is actually due on the 13th! She told me a lie! When I called her out on it she said well yes, your January bill will be due on February 13th but your February bill will be due on March 15th. This was on January 25th (So there was no February bill to speak of!). Looks like this is the second blunt lie I've been told by this company. Customer service is essentially useless because it cannot be depended on to provide adequate service- and it falsifies information to try and get people to acquire late charges. Today I opened savings and checking accounts at the local bank, got a new credit card and refinanced my loan through a different company. I had four accounts open with this bank and I've closed them all.
Fees that were acquired in late charges had to be paid.

Just because they could. My biggest mistake was transferring all of my other cards to one card since it had a fixed rate. I called and complained and they did reduce it 16.99%. Then, we just got a letter regarding my husband's account that in Feb.'08 it will go from 13.9% up to 27.99%. Again, no reason, just because they can. Nothing has changed since then, but I received an amendment saying my finance charge was going from 12% to 26.99%. I wasn't near my limit, and never paid late or went over my limit. I had a few years ago an investigation done into their practices because I know they were ripping me off, but the agency of cunsumer protection let Bank of America do the investigation, and BOA said they did nothing wrong, and now this happens. When will someone look into the practices of this giant and do something?
I believe they have ripped me off of hundreds of dollars with their way of doing business, and I know I'm not alone. And I have had no choice but to close this account, rather than pay a ridiculous rate. How can they justify raising my finance charge to such a high rate? I have a car loan that is interest-free; you don't get an interest free car loan if you have bad credit, and none of my other cards have ever been late or over the limit. I paid my Nov. bill, and then realizing that I would not be around to pay the December bill on time, I decided to pay it early. I paid the bill on for December on November 28th. BOA put that payment as a second payment for the November bill. I can't afford to make a double payment to get rid of this problem. I called BOA and spoke with a rude women in the payment research named Joan. She actually laughed to my face and told me I was basically stupid for paying my bill early, and there was nothing I could do. Then I spoke with her manager named Pamela Bowie. She was very rude and treated me like like I was dirt. She had no people skills at all. She went on to tell me that It is my fault that I paid my bill early. She insulted and degraded me.
So, I have paid my January bill, and it still shows that I am late and am still being charged late fees every month because the BOA computer has listed my payment in the wrong month. I also am getting bad rap on my credit because Pamela says that it cannot be fixed. I must pay a double payment to fix the problem. It is not my problem to fix. The bank's computer made an error and placed my payment in the wrong month showing that I made 2 payments in November--or a double payment either way. I have a Bank of America credit card which I have been making on-time payments for several years. In October 2007, I made a payment through my bank's (not BofA) online payment service. I have paid this bill this way for about 3 years. Usually, it takes 2 days to post to BofA from the date of the transaction. My October 2007 payment took 5 days to post, resulting in the transaction to be 'late'. In a detailed review of all payments made in 2007, this is the only month that took so long. At worst, it has taken 3 days to post. I called BofA to see if they would restore my previous favorable rate (it was 3.99%) and to refund the $39 late fee. I was told my rate would be restored but no refund on the late fee. They were also to recalculate the minimum payment due, but did not.
I contacted a supervisor after being ignored by emails through their online customer service option to resolve the problem. I was told that they do not process electronic payments on weekends or holidays, and that is why it was late. I was told that if I had made the payment by mail, it may have been posted on time because they process these type of transactions on weekends and holidays (sound a bit absurd?). The supervisor said that it was 5 days to post because it was over the Columbus Day holiday. My beef: The payment due date was on Columbus Day, and I can find nowhere on my agreement with the company that they do not process electronic payments on weekends and holidays. If this is true, why would they have a due date on a day they don't process electronic transactions?
I have been changed from a favorable rate of 3.99% to 32.25%. They refuse to change it, although I have an excellent previous payment history.

Somehow, Bank of America credit card balance transfer checks were stolen and deposited into a bank account set up with my name and SS#. The Bank of America notified me 11/2/07 that strange activities were on my account (which I haven't used since 2006). I canceled the card, and a new card# was being issued to me. I requested that all types of balance transfer checks not ever be mailed to me. An affidavit of fraud was on it's way to me, and the charges of close to $20,000 (2 checks) will be taken off my credit card account while being investigated. Someone had actually put through an address change online against my account as well.
I later received a credit card statement under the new account # (with more balance transfer checks - for which I requested no more to be mailed out to me). The first 2 checks fraudulent cashed out showed as a credit. The problem was a third check was cashed...3 days after I canceled the original credit card. As I was told by the fraud dept of Bank of America, it was placed against the new non-activated card number because they could not apply it to the closed card. To make matters worse, I later found out that the 3rd check had the fraudulent Staten Island address on it and was cashed at another bank account also set up with my name and SS#. The person that handles my case, sent me a letter to inform me that it was determined that the charges are mine, and I would be responsible for close to $30,000 in balance transfer checks cashed plus finance charges. On top of it, I would need to contact the banks where the checks were deposited and take it up with them that this was not mine and it was fraud. I would need to fill out paperwork with credit union banks I never dealt with - nor opened accounts with--to have Bank of America even open up the cases again. The credit unions told me that I do not need to deal with them directly. Bank of America is supposed to handle these cases with them directly. Chevron Bank was one of the credit unions that was kind enough to make the direct contact with Bank of America directly to get the case reopened because they have had many cases in a few months that were all fraudulent activities with Bank of America. I've questioned why a check was even cashed against a closed account but cannot get a straight answer. The person could only put in a note in the computer that no further checks be put through - but they could not guarantee that it would work 100%.
I spent countless hours, at work, speaking with Bank of America's fraud dept. At times I was screaming because it was so frustrating to be told that I am responsible for these charges regardless of what I say. I had to fax over my driver's license - I am guessing to prove my address and identity. I have taken time off to go to the police precinct and complete a report. Then told (after completion) that I am in the wrong precinct and will need to start over at the correct one. My husband and I have spent countless hours calling the credit cards to cancel or reduce limits so that we reduce any further damage (hopefully). It was not a great comfort to know that they could not guarantee that any further checks could not be cashed....It is so maddening that I can't clear my name, and now my credit reports are coming through with other names and variations of my SS# appearing on it with a few addresses that aren't even mine. I worry at the idea that it could affect my children's future. I worry everything will be taken away, and my credit will be worthless due to this Bank of America's lack of security.

I mailed letters to the addresses to Bank of America on Feb. 21, 2007 and on Oct. 10, 2007, instructing Bank of America to cease mailing blank checks and unsolicited credit offers of Any kind to my address. However, both letters were ignored and the blank checks continued to arrive throughout the entire year. Approximately a week ago, I called Bank of America and the customer service person told me that there is no guarantee your letter will ever make it to someone who can follow through on the request, so it is important to call instead of writing. I explained that legally consumers are not really protected unless we put things in writing, and I asked if our letters merely went into a black hole. The customer service person told me that no, they do not go into a black hole, but then she repeated the same statement about letters not making it to anyone who can or will follow through. She then said it would take 6-8 weeks for the request to go through, therefore I may continue to receive the blank checks for a while.
This is by no means the first time that Bank of America, MBNA (before the sale to BOA), Sallie Mae, and ACS have ignored letters with requests, instructions, and even billing disputes. (Sallie Mae violated my daughter's credit report rights as well as charging interest my daughter did not owe, and ACS charged me close to $500 I never did owe them but they ignored my letters so I had to pay it to protect my credit rating.) It is appalling the way these companies ignore our legal rights without consequences. Also appalling is the way these financial institutions put us at risk of credit/ID theft, and then want to sell us ID/credit protection! T
Continual credit offers and blank checks in our mailbox, open to theft. Time and frustration in writing multiple letters and phone calls, not to mention no clear explanation for lack of legal follow through and respecting of consumer rights.

My daughters insurance company charged this card that was on file for a 6 month policy that was to expire on 10/31/07. We did not intend to renew for many reasons but they charged my card for a new policy that I never consented to. I mailed, faxed, called and talked with several people at BOFA and sent back up documents of conversations with the insurance company notifying them that there would be no new policies after the initial one expired on 10/31/07. It was a fraudulent charge that BOFA allowed and will not remove even though we disputed it and provided all of the evidence of such.
This is a $1,329.90 charge for insurance that was not needed or wanted. They doubled the rate from the last policy and justified it by showing my duaghter 51% at fault in an auto accident that was clearly the other individuals fault, as admitted by him and witnesses to both his and my daughters insurance companies. We had to pay $1,000 deductable which we later found out that his company was willing to pay and had found him at fault. Both his insurance company and we are confused why they would do this. It could be the possibility that by showing my duaghter wrongfully at fault, they can raise her policy and make it harder to get another company to insure her. For now, we are out the $1000 that we had to pay but shouldn't have for the accident deductable and the $1,329.90 that was charged to my credit card with out my permission. I am owed a total of $2,329.90 by the insuarnce company and a portion of that $1,329.90 should have been removed from my credit card based on the dispute I filed with them immediately upon learning of this fraudulant activity.

Two weeks later BoA sent me an email and surprised me with additional finance charges. Normally, other credit card companies would waive it off to keep a customer in good standing happy. BoA was very rude and would not waive it off. I would not do business with them ever again.
BoA has lost a good credit customer because of their dumb act, for measly a few bucks.

I had gone shopping with my wife for groceries and house hold items--nothing large, mostly small charges with the largest amount being around $62.00 and the smallest around $1.00. These charges were from Dec. 7 to the 9th, over the weekend. On Sunday night I noticed that my BofA account was closed to being overdrawn, and they transferred money from savings to my checking. On Monday a large automatic bill was processed before all of the other charges. The charge was not more than I had in my account, but it made all of the other charges overdraft. Now I did have some money in my savings account left, and that was automatically withdrawn to cover some of the overdraft.
All of the charges that were chronologically older were left pending, and the new charge which was received on Monday was the first charge paid. This had the effect of making all the other transactions overdraft. I had 10 separate transactions; most of them were less than $20.00. Some of these were only $1.07 but all were charged $35.00 per overdraft up to the maximum of 5. This now caused another item to overdraft. The net result is I was charged 6 overdraft charges at $35.00 each. I have spent my time to go to the bank to try to get this worked out. I accept that I may have made a mistake, but the charge should have been for 1 overdraft only, not 6.

I have a Bank of America Visa card. The latest bill was due Dec. 16, 2007 for a little over $2700. I went to the bank on Saturday, Dec. 15, and wrote a check for the entire amount. Note that this payment was ONE day early. The bank said I will have to pay a late fee and an interest charge because it's late. I said it is not late, that today is Dec. 15, and the payment is not due until Sunday, Dec. 16. It appears to me that this big corporation is trying to cheat the little guy. We pay our bills on time, and we're penalized. What can be done about this?
It has caused us mental anguish. I was in Southern California for a week and rushed in to pay the VISA card on Saturday, Dec. 15. We do not pay online due to security issues. (We were the victims of identity theft, and it took six months to get the case resolved.)

I just realized yesterday that the payment somehow disappeared and I have been charged $39.00 late payment fee. I will be transferring the balance to another card after which I am cancelling their card.

They not only charged me a $39.00 late fee, they raised my interest rate from 18.24% to 26.24% in ONE month. I called twice to try to reason with them, but the Customer Service Rep. repeatedly told me the same thing....that I had to make my payments on time for 6 months before they would consider lowering my payments.
My parents are now helping me pay this bill because as I am in school. I only work two nights on the weekends, and that's not much money. The minimum payment due on my last bill was $86.00, $41.00 of which they said was late, but it was only late by a couple of days. They charged me a $39.00 late fee and $32.32 in interest. I have been a credit card customer of Bank of America since 2004, and a banking customer off and on for 40 years. I signed up for the payment protection insurance plan to be sure that the account would be covered in case of emergency. Three years ago I had three hurricanes hit our home, had to relocate, found work and a new place to live, actived the insurance during the difficult times, deactivated once stable, and then out of work again. I was seeking work turning in the monthly statements signed by the State employment office, then all of a sudden last September statements from the card company began to generate to my account as active and in need of payment. I contacted the card company and they stated that this was fact and to contact the insurance provider which I did .For the next six months, I kept getting one rep after the other stating that since the merger with MNBA, we are experiencing a glitch in our computer systems, and there are more than two hundred thousand other customers having problems.
I finally wrote a letter to the chairman of the board of Bank of America and was contacted by a very nice woman in the office, but the account was not remedied until August of this year. I found work and the coverage was retro and then deactivated. I was guanteed that this would not reflect on my credit report, the day before yesterday I recieved a copy of my credit report and there was negative over limit reporting on my account. I called the woman in the chairman of the boards office and she called me yesterday to let me know that she had increased my credit limit and that his would retro the negative reporting in thirty days. I have an MBNA America credit card that is now with Bank of America. I contacted them on 11/29/2007 to explain why my current amout due increased $10 (from $65 to $75). I spoke with 4 people including a supervisor who were not able to explain the increase to me. I spoke with a male worker on the supervisor's (Brandon White) team who informed me, laughingly, that the bank wants their money and that's why they increased your balance to get you to pay it off quicker. Then he hung up the phone while transferring me to his supervisor. I was on the line contacting Bank of America again when this worker called me back and then had the audacity to say hey, at least I called you back. That is rude. I understand I owe a debt and I am paying that debt but there was no reason to be rude and disrespectful to me. In addition, I think it is embarrassing that no one in this mutil-million or billion dollar company was able to explain to me why they increased my current payment amount. They said it was due to the balance, which is over the credit limit and provided a calculation that they use. The calculation only worked for November 2007 but not for the other months in 2007. So that was not an explaination. I have had this card for 14 years and the balance issue is not new. I was not on a payment plan with MBNA and not with Bank of America. Also, there was no increase in the current payment due when Bank of America took over the account and the account is closed and has been closed for years.
I paid the $75 current payment due with no explanation as to the increase.

In Oct. 2006 BOA sent me an offer to transfer credit card balances at 4.99% until the balances were paid in full. After 12 months of making timely payments I was surprised to see that the rate jumped to 24.98% due to a missed payment in Oct. 2007. Upon investigating how I could have missed a payment I discovered that I never received a statement from BOA for Oct. 2007. Initially I was willing to at least consider the possibility that for the first time in 33 years of paying bills by mail that for some strange reason BOA's statement was lost in the mail.
However, upon speaking to two BOA employees on two different occasions and hearing their conflicting lies, I am convinced that it was simply a scam to insure that I would miss a payment and therefore be in default under the terms of the offer. The first person I spoke with was very pleasant and helpful while assuring me that the rate would be reset to 4.99 making it unnecessary for me to pay off the balance. When I received my November statement and saw the rate was still 24.98%, I called again and was stunned to find that BOA had changed its story. The second person I talked to said my rate increased not because of the missed payment but because the promotional offer expired in Oct. 2007.
There is no doubt in my mind that as far as BOA was concerned the special rate was never intended to go beyond 12 months. The problem from a consumer's point of view is that the offer they sent me said it was good until paid in full. The economic damage on the difference between interest charges at 4.99% and 24.98% on a balance of $21,208 is $353.29 for 30 days.

I mailed in my August payment to BofA in the form of a money order. When I got my September billing, I noticed that the payment had not been applied and that my minimum payment had been increased from 161.00 to 424.00. Obviously, my interest rate was hiked to unimaginable levels. Previously, I had NEVER been late on any of my payments--nor was I this time. I contacted B of A and they assured me that they never received the payment. Then I called the Money Gram and they assured me that the money order had been cashed. So I had Money Gram send me a copy (not without a fee) of the cleared money order. The bank stamp was regrettably illegible. Therefore I contacted Money Gram again, this time they sent me a print out of all of the money orders that have been cleared through B of A. There is my money order number, highlighted and staring me in the face.
So I call B of A and they tell me that it is my fault that they had not applied the payment! They will not take off the late fees or the over-limit fees, and they will not reduce my interest rate. As far as I can tell, this is fraud to the highest degree. Since this incident occurred, I've been laid off and I don't have 424.00/mo. Therefore, my squeeky clean credit is crucified. I can't even get a loan to pay off the error that I DIDN'T make. I am extremely stressed out because this is effecting every aspect of our family's financial future.

I sent this payment that very day, paid in full amount. Lo and behold, here later came a late charge posted against our account. They had held our payment so that they could charge us with a late payment. The bottom line here is that no one stiffs me. I sent Fleet a nice letter, you can imagine, and also our credit card, cut in half. Their late charge was almost $30. Even today, these sorry devils are still trying to collect on this and have run up their charges to over $900. Naturally, we just laugh at these sorry devils. As you can see, we have been laughing at these sorry devils for over seven years. I have offered to pay for their warrant to take us to court, but of course they refused. After I moved, I began to run through my bills. I noticed that my monthly payments had not taken as much off the top as they normally do on my credit card.
So, I checked the interest. I was shocked, it was nearly double what it was before.
I never received any letter (they claimed they sent) saying I had an option to opt-out. My interest went from about 14% to 22.9%. I believe this is illegal, to change without notification that is.
So, I called, several times. Finally I get a person who gives me story saying that I am using the card like a long-term loan. So the raised the interest rate. What? Don't long term loans get lower interest rates, so you can pay them off?
So, I hung up in anger, did not want to start yelling at the person and began to call back again later that week. I called and asked why was my interest doubled for no reason. They gave me the same story, I am using the card like a long term loan and I have only made 1 purchase this past month. The also began to describe that I was late for a payment. I asked when?, they said sometime in 2001. Come on, that was nearly 6 years ago. If you had a problem, you should have raised the rate then.
So, I requested a manager to call me back. The next day, I get a phone call. They sound legit, but I could not take the call. They did not leave a number, only a first name. About 2 days later, I receive another call. This person did not sound like a manager. I have the voice recording on my iphone still. I can here about 20 people talking in the background of what sounds like a call center. Very noisy. A few days later I received 2 letters from the same two people who tried to contact me.
I have attempted, more than 10 times now, to call them back but these people can't be found. So, here I am back at square one, trying to figure out what to do.
I have applied for an American Express Blue with a 4.9% fixed rate on balance transfers, but have yet to here if I am accepted.
