What is Atlas Debt Relief?

Atlas Debt Relief is a financial consulting firm that offers personalized debt management services. It negotiates credit card debt settlements for both consumers and small business owners. The company works with you to establish a monthly payment plan, which will be used to pay out your creditors once a settlement has been reached.

How does Atlas Debt Relief work?

To work with Atlas Debt Relief, you’ll first set up a free consultation, which you can do via phone or email. Once you agree to work with Atlas Debt Relief, you’ll start making monthly payments into a savings account. These funds will then be used to settle your debts once an agreement has been made with your creditors.

Once you have saved up about 40% to 50% of your enrolled debt, Atlas Debt Relief will begin negotiating with your creditors on your behalf to reduce the total amount you owe. The company says you can have your debts settled within 24 to 48 months and that a typical client reaches their first settlement within five to seven months of being in the program.

During this time, it’s also recommended that you stop using your credit cards, as creditors typically only negotiate with delinquent cards. Atlas Debt Relief suggests having another card not enrolled in the program that you can use in case of emergency.

Note that you’ll need to establish financial hardship to work with Atlas Debt Relief, which means you stop paying your creditors. This gives the company leverage for negotiations. During this time, you’ll incur interest charges and late fees, and there is no guarantee a creditor will settle. Be sure to consider the pros and cons before working with any debt settlement company.

Atlas Debt Relief fees

There are no upfront fees with Atlas Debt Relief, and you’ll only be charged if a settlement is successful. The fee is a percentage of your enrolled debt.

Atlas Debt Relief does not clearly publish its fee range, but its website says that average debt settlement amounts between June 2012 and June 2016 were 47% before fees or 67% to 72% including fees.

Atlas Debt Relief FAQ

Does Atlas Debt Relief have a money-back guarantee?

Atlas Debt Relief does not offer any guarantee that your debts will be lowered by a specific amount or within a specific timeframe. There is also no guarantee that your creditors will agree to settle. However, you will only pay if Atlas Debt Relief is successful in its negotiations, and the company says it only accepts debts held with creditors it has a successful history of negotiating with.

Does Atlas Debt Relief offer loans?

No, Atlas Debt Relief is not a lender and therefore does not offer any debt consolidation loans. Instead, Atlas Debt Relief works with your creditors to reduce how much you owe in total.

Will working with Atlas Debt Relief hurt my credit score?

Debt settlement can negatively impact your credit score. This is because you are not paying your debts in full. However, the impact on your credit score will vary depending on your individual credit history.

I started in 2022 with the program and in February 2025 I cancelled my contract. They had only completed 6 accounts. Also, when I reviewed the settlements further, it became clear that I was NOT receiving the services they promised. With their fees of 25% on the enrolled amount and their negotiations with the creditors there was absolutely very little savings or non at all.

I had a card that was $9,919.80 dollars and the negation amount was $6,764.40. By the time you add the 25% fee it came out to $2479.95 and add those two numbers together, you have a total savings of $995.90. This was basically every account they negotiated. There is no savings and the program goes on forever, with no end in sight. Communication and transparency is not given. They are in the business of getting their 25% fee and other charges (Allg Fees, service fees, and payment transaction fees) and are not there to help you. You are better off working with the creditors yourself.

I was close to paying off my debt when I reached out to Atlas Debt Relief for my final balance. That same month, I received an email stating that my payment was being returned because the collecting agency had gone out of business. Without any prior communication, a sister agency took over my account. Despite making all my payments on time, this transition caused a contract breach since payments were not processing correctly. As a result, I was forced to start over with a new settlement.

Atlas Debt Relief provided no real assistance throughout this process, leaving me to deal with the consequences of their lack of communication. It became clear that working directly with creditors would have been a much better option than relying on a third-party service like Atlas. Even now, they continue mishandling my payments. They need to get their act together. I would not recommend their service.

At the end of the day after all the company's fees I ended up paying almost what I owed. The only good thing is that your payments are spread out over time but you may be able to get your credit card company to do that anyway. They didn't start negotiating my debt (even though I had been paying into my account for almost a year) until I was served with court papers.

      Reviewed Oct. 12, 2024

11th October 2024: The company is legit and they have been helping me for the last 2 years with credit card debt payments. Granted that it is a big amount that I have to pay every month, they still helped reduce the amount that I had to pay back. In the beginning, I was hesitant (my husband found them, not me), especially when my credit score dropped at first from stopping credit card payments, and it took them time to start paying off the cards.

But now my credit score is going back up again, one of the cards has been paid off. They helped me with 2 lawsuits against credit card companies that refused to settle with them. They handled the situation and the only thing I had to do was send letters to the creditors to inform them that Atlas Debt Relief was representing me and to stop harassing me with constant communication but rather reach out to Atlas to arrange a settlement. All my cards are in active payment plans now, and I'm on my way to getting rid of this debt. It wasn't a small amount so it would take time, and they won't do this for free so obviously there's a fee but it's still less than the original debt amount.

The only catch is that whatever money I save on the debt (difference between original debt amount and negotiated amount), is considered taxable income by the IRS. But that's more of an IRS issue, rather than an issue with this company. So if you're serious about getting out of debt, and you're willing to give the program some time (given the size of your debt), I would recommend this company.

I’ve got banks calling me. Texting me. Emailing me day and night wanting payment and I am instructed not to talk to anybody. It’s frustrating and I wonder why it takes so long to negotiate. Why does it take 24 to 48 months really? It could all be done in a week. Are you kidding me?
