Good option for saving and investing. It is recommended to use it. It also offers good options for various ways to use your money. A good choice. It would only be good if it had the option for other languages and thus expand the market.

Acorns lets you set up specific amounts on a recurring basis, and also allows you to make one-time deposits. All of your progress is charted, along with your future trajectory of savings. I don't have much time, so managing my contributions, and paying me 3% to save my own money, gives me a peace of mind.

I used to keep a big jar where my husband and I would toss all our loose change. Once a year, I’d cash it in and we’d usually have around $500 — such a nice little surprise! A few years ago, I read in AARP Magazine about an app called Acorns that invests your spare change automatically. I decided to give it a try back in 2018, and I’ve been using it ever since. I also add $25 a week, and over the years, I’ve really watched my “oak” grow! It’s funny — it feels just like that old change jar, only now the money actually grows on its own. Such an easy way to save without even thinking about it. 🌳💰

I was disappointed with the service at first from not having the literacy on how it works. I came to realize that I was wrong from being disappointed all along from not doing my research. After a year later my money increased and it was up from there. I’m not doing well with money yet but as my acorn grew I was able to withdraw 1k for an emergency fund. It was deposited maybe two-three days later. At that time I couldn’t go to work for a month and it helped me on bills. Fingers crossed that I run the account up high as ever. I hope more of my friends and family use the link I have sent them and get with the program.

Very straightforward investing and savings for the novice with very competitive rates. It makes sense to sign up even if you’re transferring a modest sum as the interest will outweigh the fees quickly. After having both my kids do high school checking with a top5 bank. I was able to get them both to open accounts here in college and now they’re both using round ups x10 for more aggressive savings. If you’re in GenZ and are wanting to start off in great financial shape, this app will start you off right. Even the Later function can be great if you qualify for IRA savings. The only downside is I can’t hide the functions I don’t use. Otherwise it’s a wonderful tool to “grow your oak!!!”

I've been using Acorns for a while now, and it truly makes investing a breeze. I love how it eliminates the guesswork from choosing companies and diversifying investments, which helps in avoiding losses from poor choices. You can simply select your risk level, and Acorns intelligently allocates your money across various categories of stocks, bonds, and even a Bitcoin ETF, depending on the level you choose. This is ironically the lowest tier which is only $1 a month. (I believe you have to sign up with the $5 tier and downgrade later.)
While I do use other apps for investing in specific companies, Acorns stands out for its ease of use and smart diversification based on personal risk preferences. This allows me to focus on investing without the stress of constant decision-making. I Honestly feel that Acorns is worth a try. I didn't think so either before I signed up and saw how stress-free yet personal it was.

I’ve been very happy with the overall performance of my portfolio and the rates for the banking section. I don’t like the lack of transparency when you place a sell request. I cannot chose the exact assets I want to sell to take advantage of the short term loss or long term win. I’ve asked this question and gotten no response with the excuse that you can’t provide tax advise. Not the same thing. I also don’t like that you can’t set push notifications for charges to your checking account.

Acorns is a good idea with a poor execution. It's a good way to casually save money through their "round-up" program and allows you to be passively involved in the movements of the market. That being said, their returns are very poor, especially compared to other investment options and despite the stock market continuously reaching new historic highs. Also, their referral program is not transparent. They seem to intentionally hide (or at least greatly delay) information on the status of your referrals so when the payout deadline is reached they can conveniently deny your bonus while not sharing specifics. Do not get your hopes up with acorns. If you are looking to save and invest your money seek out better options.

I requested a transfer of assets from my Acorns account to another brokerage after investing with Acorns for 5 years. I had a little over $9,000 in the account. Acorns charged $210 ($35 per ETF or mutual fund) to transfer the whole shares I held from Acorns to the other brokerage. $1,950 was listed as an "investment loss" with no corresponding market activity to explain this. There is no cost basis information nor itemization of losses on the monthly statement, only a $28 gain. This money is missing without explanation. I requested asset transfers from other brokerages without any missing money nor other problems. I had to prove my identity with Acorns. It took 4 months to FINALLY get my account unlocked. I had to provide a selfie holding my ID and a copy of my ID. Then I had to provide a bank statement showing the funds withdrawal. That was not enough. Then they had to have a copy of the bank signature card, a copy of my social security card and a utility bill. Then after all that, I had to wait. During that time, I would receive random emails from customer service asking for the document again. I do not know how many times I had to upload the same documents.
During the time the account was locked, they did not withdraw the whopping $10 a month I was investing, but they did sell $3 a month worth of stock to satisfy my monthly fee. After the account was unlocked and I gained access to it, I noticed that Acorns had withdrawn $270. It said they withdrew it for "Cash Owed". That's actually 27 months' worth of deposits! Here is what their website said about Cash Owed because customer service didn't have the slightest idea unless I sent them my most recent bank statement so they could investigate it, LOL.
Here's what Acorns says: "Great question. If a deposit you make for an investment doesn’t successfully transfer from your bank account—for example, due to insufficient funds or any other reason—we will reverse (or "charge back") the deposit. When this happens, the reversed amount will be marked as "cash owed" on your account, and you’ll be responsible for paying that amount back to us. To simplify the process and avoid requiring any action from you, we sell the necessary amount of shares from your investment account to cover the cash owed. If this happens, we'll notify you."
First, they didn't notify me and still haven't. Secondly, they stopped withdrawing the money due to them freezing my account until I could prove my identity, not anything I did, lastly $270 covers 27 months of deposits not the 4 MONTHS it took to gain access back. ALL this to say I would NOT invest anything with Acorns ever again. I will probably end up losing the $270 and just close it out and NEVER look back.

TLDR; TOTAL LACK OF TRANSPARENCY, WILL LOCK you out of your account, TERRIBLE Customer Service, high monthly fees, high fees for investment accounts, Acorns lacks transparency and accountability. For a company that deals with your personal money and markets that it will save you money, invest it for you and will teach kids about investing...they have absolutely no transparency. Imagine being locked out of your account, not having access to any of your hard earned money, at any time, for any reason, and will never be told why. They can and have done this. Since our experience, I have read 100’s of stories like mine. Buried deep in reviews. They are not a bank, but are backed by a bank, FDIC insured. Safe...right?!? Oh how wrong I was!
My 18 yo son deposited every dime that he earned into Acorns. He wants to go into finance and was looking forward to learning about investing. We opened accounts at the same time and he deposited $4,000 into his account the same night. Within minutes, he was locked out of his account. That didn’t seem unusual to us since they wanted to verify that he was a real person and the money came from his own account. I was actually impressed with the fraud prevention! However, after verifying everything they asked us to (sent them the bank statements, utility bills showing the family name and address, screenshots of his local bank savings account showing the withdrawal, pictures of him holding his bank statements with the transactions on them...not just once, but he sent them in 3 different times), still to be locked out of his account. We made several phone calls over a two week period...he was still locked out.
His local bank even called in with him when he went to the bank to ask about his options to get his money back, reversing the transaction and even making a fraud report against them. He was very worried about never getting his money back. But even after the bank called on his behalf and he was promised a phone call back telling him that his account would be unlocked within 24 hours, he still was not given no access to his money. He couldn’t invest it, couldn’t see if it was growing in interest, he couldn’t withdraw it, NOTHING. Literally could not even log into his account. Every time he called in, they told him that everything looked good and they could see that he provided all requested verification documents. They said they would escalate his ticket and he would hear back in 48 hours. Two days later, he would do this all over again. When asked to speak with a manager, they said that we could not be transferred to anyone higher.
Eventually I got a supervisor (be prepared to wait an hour or more for one) who repeated the same information as the original customer service rep, and said they would escalate the ticket and he would hear back in 48 hours. This went on for a couple of weeks. Acorns is extremely lacking in customer service, we constantly got the run-around. They always claimed that there was no one higher than a supervisor for us to talk to. Our ticket was escalated so many times that I can’t believe we weren’t talking to the CEO yet.
Sometimes we would get an email response instead but that was only copy-and-pasting irrelevant marketing information from their website about how Acorns would help us “Invest while we save”. Several representatives abruptly ended our chat, mid-sentence and others refused to share their “fine print” agreements with us, just telling us to look on the website. The only way we got it resolved was by going onto LinkedIn and commenting our story on every single executive’s post. The next day Acorns CALLED US and the hold was removed from his account within minutes. It should not have had to go that far. I did go back on LinkedIn and add to my post that we finally got access. But I left my original post so that others would know what they are dealing with when it comes to this company. As soon as he got access, he withdrew all of his money and closed all accounts. My own experience in getting an account was just as frustrating.
I signed up for one at the same time as my son. I was denied an account and told it was because my identification could not be verified.I sent in a picture of me with my passport, federal ID, driver's license, local bank statements, anything I could think of, but they still could not verify my identity. They told me to try again in 60 days. I am not sure what would change in 60 days with my identity getting verified. I have lived at my same address for 30 years+ and have several different accounts, a mortgage, car loan, student loans, etc. My son had absolutely no credit and was verified instantly. So then I got worried about what info the credit reporting agencies had and if it was some misinformation or some attempted fraud at some point in my past credit.
If Acorns couldn’t verify a human who had plenty of credit, lived at the same place and had accounts all older than the company itself, then I had assumed it was the info they were getting from the credit reporting agencies that was inaccurate. During that point in time, did I ever think it was a issue within Acorns themselves….So, I worried about what the credit reporting agencies had received. From everything I have researched, the fair credit reporting act states that when denied an account for any reason, you are entitled to an adverse actions report that states why you were denied an account. This is in part to protect the individual from fraud (from my understanding) and allows you to pull your credit report for free.
The FCRA states that a bank “must provide you with an "adverse action" notice that includes the name and contact information of the checking account screening company from which the bank got the report. So that you can contact the reporting company and request a free copy of the report” to look for inaccurate information. When I asked Acorns for this, they told me that they are not a bank and do not have to follow that. When I got the information for the bank behind Acorns, and contacted them, they told me that they could not provide this and all of the screening is done at Acorns and to contact them. So I never did get an answer into what could not be verified and/or learn what the issue was. I asked several times over the phone and in email. Their replies in email were a copy and paste of the previous reply to me in that they do not have to follow those laws.
They were rude in their reponses, offered nothing of value, or just refused to answer. To be fair, I was plenty rude myself since, at that point, my son still didn’t have access to his money and I was pretty helpless in being able to help him. Plus him getting the account was my idea. As someone who works in finance, I was sure that I had done my due diligence and research on the company and that they were totally legit and on the up and up. I loved their business scheme (no pun intended...little did I know how much of a scheme it was at that point). Point being, they absolutely lack transparency which is extremely scary when they can take your money and then lock your account so you no longer have access to your own money. For an 18 yo young adult who trusted ALL of his money with Acorns, that is extremely scary. He learned a valuable lesson in not trusting companies with great marketing.
All in all, the experience was beyond disappointing for both of us. The company has a great idea and the marketing to get the younger generation be involved in investing and to start saving for their future, is a wonderful concept. But it will be better served being run individuals who believe in total transparency, have integrity and can be trusted to care for your money as hard as you worked to save it. I will do everything I can to get the word out about them so this never happens to anyone else. Or if it does, they go in knowing that their account WILL be locked at some point. At least they go into it knowing that if isn’t a matter of IF their account will be locked, but WHEN.
If you are reading this and have been locked out of your accounts, GET ON LINKEDIN and comment on any and all posts from CEO Noah Kerner, CFO Seth Wunder and COO Pete Johnson. I got the fastest reponse when I commented on CEO Noah Kerner’s post. I have no idea of the character of these individuals. I did thank Noah for their help, but admonished that it had to go so far as me making public comments on a business social media platform in order for my son to get his money back. FYI, Ashton Kutcher, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Durant are all Investors in the company (according to Acorns website), I would doubt that they realize this is happening.

Acorns Invest is a serial predator who uses numerous fraudulent and illegal tactics to scam innocent investors. They market specifically to new and young investors unfamiliar with state and federal laws, and regulations. You can find well over 30,000 complaints on Apple store, Google store, Trustpilot, Better Business Bureau, Reddit, and various other sites of innocent victims being abused by this company. First, when you call them to close your accounts, they will, but they won't cancel the subscription and indefinitely bill you monthly for services you canceled and are not provided. This is consumer fraud, false advertising, breach of contract, unjust enrichment and illegal. They falsely advertise a better debit card, the black tungsten metal with their gold plan, yet will send you their basic green card, again consumer fraud, false advertising, breach of contract, unjust enrichment and illegal.
I have had their reps lie on the phone, through email, then their escalations team and manager continued to lie, right up to even the ceo, Noah himself, a predator targeting the young and vulnerable. They also love to advertise generous referral programs, promising payment for referring clients, only to weasel out with lies or ghosting you completely and not paying out. In the moral of this complaint, Noah has trained his band of thieves to use any and all fraudulent tactics to unjustly enrich himself and the company with fraudulent advertising, consumer fraud, unjust enrichment, consumer fraud. With all these fintechs and BaaS going bust, evolve bank stealing over $100 mil from customers, SynapseFI going bankrupt, the victim list is piling up. I checked with the friend and he told me they charged him a higher $$$ monthly fee and thought could have been fraud or something else so he deactivated the account. I finally got my last $5 a week later but my friend still hasn't. She has to call them herself to have them investigate why. In the meantime she's getting charged another $3 (total of 6) when she invested $5 to start. I will never refer anyone to them again and will be pulling out my investments.

I started a checking account with Acorns Mighty Oak card given their relatively high APY on checking and emergency fund accounts (3% and 5% respectively) and paid monthly 5 $ maintenance fees. They never delivered on what they advertised to do. When I asked them, I was told that is because your account is not really Mighty Oak although you are paying the fees for it. In order to do that, we need to cancel this account, start a new account with a new account number. That is not inconvenience, that also means me updating all my bill payees with new data, potential for error and all the time wasted associated with that. I asked for a callback from their customer service, I never got one.

I experienced fraud by someone trying to open an Acorns checking account and transferred funds from my linked bank account to a fraudulent Acorns account. My bank fixed it. I had to close my checking account and start from scratch - huge hassle. I have tried multiple times to close my Acorns account, and have sent the requested paperwork 3 times now and they keep asking for the same paperwork. Then, they ended up just disconnecting me. I am disgusted with Acorns and suggest staying away from them. If you have ANY issues at all, you will not be helped.

When I decided to close the account, they still charged me the maintenance fee. Even though I processed the closing of the account on the 25th, they said that technically the closing was completed on their end on the 28th and therefore I had to pay the maintenance fee due on the 27th. They refused to give me a refund and safe to say I will not be recommending them to anyone.

I opened a account in August 2022. I made a transfer into the account. It then was locked. I called several times to get it unlocked. I was told to send in a PDF showing my name and account number so the account could be verified. I sent it. After sending that they said a 3way call to the linked bank needed to be done. We did the 3 way call. The bank refused to release Acorns the information they need. Then again after that call I was told to send in a bank statement again, a copy of my driver's license and a reason why the account was opened. I also did that. Now they are saying they need another PDF bank statement showing all my transactions (NOT GOING TO HAPPEN). That is personal when I was told they only needed a statement showing my NAME and ACCOUNT NUMBER. I think it's time to take legal representation because now I feel as if they are stealing money locking accounts and refusing to close them or unlock them.

Their site gets glitchy and doesn’t allow you to fully close it so then you have to call customer service who tells you not to worry that they’ve got it all taken care of and then your account get debit again the three dollar fee for subscription, and then they take out the investments - to go towards a closed account. I am livid! Guess I have to go to my bank to put a stop payment so that they stop this once and for all, and I have lost faith that I will get these subscription bogus fees refunded. Even if you have used the service for years and have paid the monthly $3 fee that goes to who knows what, if you try to move money into your Acorns account for the first time in a while, your account will get locked. It's not as simple as calling them up to unlock it. They want you to EMAIL them a bank statement from your checking account and a screenshot of your checking account showing the transaction to Acorns.
Until then, you cannot access your money or close the Acorns account or cancel the transaction. You would think they would have a more secure way to send this information or a better method than this. The service has gone to trash ever since it went public, and I plan to close it once I can get my account unlocked. Google "Acorns locked account" to see the nightmare others have had to deal with. When you call customer service, they tell you the same thing. When you ask for a supervisor, they refuse, and repeat the same information. Avoid, if possible, cancel if not.

I have been using Acorns investing for my kids for about 4 years, and also the debit card feature. I have always used the same account to transfer money into account. Acorns recently locked my account because I transferred money into it. Their reasoning was because it was too large of a transfer (it was not that large). They sent me an email to send in a pdf of my bank statement of the account I was transferring the money out of, and a screenshot of the money leaving my account.
I have never heard of this type of security before and thought it was a scam! What business locks an account because you transferred money into it. Nevertheless I did as they asked and still have not gotten my account unlocked. This has been going on for over 2 weeks with multiple calls, chats and emails to Acorns. I feel like they have the upper hand and there is nothing I can do. This is the worst feeling when they have a chunk of your money and will not provide service to resolve the issue. I opened a checking account with Acorns about a year ago, attracted by their "no fees" advertising. (False, by the way, you're charged $5 a month.) Within my first year, I had to order a new card twice due to mysterious, unexplained data compromises. It took them more than a week to ship me a new card, during which time I had no access to the cash in my checking account. The second time they shipped me a new card, their explanation for the long wait time was that the special steel card had to be "etched" and customized. They still took 10-14 business days to send the card... and it was plastic.
The FINAL straw was Acorns placing a 90-day freeze on any check deposits into my checking account, without even bothering to notify me. I made an incorrect payment to a credit card company, and the payment was returned. After correcting the amount with my credit card company, I retried the payment and it went through. Little did I know that because of that returned payment, Acorns placed a hold on my account accepting any new check deposits for THREE MONTHS. I was never notified. I only found out when attempting to deposit a large check, which was mysteriously rejected. No explanation from Acorns until I called their extremely unhelpful, untrained, and unknowledgeable customer service. The woman placed me on hold for 20 minutes just so she could LOCATE the rejected check transaction. Horribly disorganized. She refused to explain or lift the 90-day freeze on my account.
In another instance, I requested Acorns put a stop payment on an incorrect bill statement. They assured me over the phone that the payment would be stopped. It went through anyway, and was declined. I called again and told them to stop the payment, and not let a second attempt go through. I was assured no second attempted payment would go through. Lo and behold, the payment went through a second time, and was declined. I incurred a fee for the two failed payments from the vendor, which Acorns declined to reimburse me for.
I am in the process of closing my account and moving all of my assets to Chase. Horrific company. Irresponsibly managed. Customer service has close to no training, are all overseas, and can barely communicate in serviceable English. This is a joke of a "bank" and I advise all against trusting them with your money.

Well as soon as my direct deposit confirms to my Acorns checking account and my debit card is activated, my ENTIRE account is suspended because suddenly they are "audited" and need to confirm my address. They didn't halt transfers, or restrict a couple features, no they completely suspended my entire account refusing me access to even SEE my own account balances or check on ANYTHING. I supply them with a renter's insurance policy bill, internet bill, home security bill, water bill, energy bill, and gas bill, all in my name at the address in question. They state that it will take 1-2 days to review, completely unsatisfied with that answer I go to their site to chat with a live agent.
It takes almost 30 minutes to get a live agent who does nothing but says my ticket has been submitted to an "internal review team" and will take 1-2 days before I can access my account again. Still unsatisfied, I call them and wait on hold for 2 ENTIRE HOURS, to be told the same thing and when I ask to be directed to this "internal review team" I am told that they can't be reached but my ticket will be given the "highest priority". How is a high priority supposed to mean anything when you can't even reach these people?
How is this acceptable that I have an account about to receive my entire paycheck and I can't access it to pay any of my bills? I won't be able to see my money and confirm it has been deposited, I won't be able to access it for groceries, bills, rent, or gas, and I can't even log in to withdraw from my accounts so I can cancel them and take my business elsewhere. After finally getting someone on chat, who was no help, I was told that my issue would be escalated and I would get an email in one or two days.
That never happened, went back through the chat thing, still no help. Cannot be provided with a phone number to an actual human who can accomplish anything... Once again told that I would be emailed (and if I have an escalation ticket, don't you think they could provide a ticket number??). I opened an Acorns account around January 2020. It was a great experience saving change that was rounded up. So, I also decided to open a spend account with them as well in which you purchase a debit card to use and have your funds transferred from your other bank. I have never had a problem and had enjoyed using it. Last week, Wednesday, I transferred $1030 to my spend account knowing I needed to pay some bills and have money for the weekend. It usually takes 1-2 days for the transfer to complete.
On Friday I was doing a little online shopping and went to pay for my purchase and my payment did not go through. I then went to check my balance on the acorns app and had a message that I needed to provided additional verification. So, I called Acorns and the customer service rep advised me that we would have to complete a 3 way call to my bank to confirm I had the funds transferred. The transfer was successfully verified. I was told that my account would be released and that my funds would be available in my spend account on Monday and she would be having them expedite this. Had to go through the weekend without my money.
Okay, so Monday I checked my account and was still unable to login and received the same message. I called customer service for a second time. This time I was told that I had to provide a screenshot showing that the funds had been taken out of my regular bank account. I asked the customer service rep why I wasn’t told this on Friday. He had no answer for but kept apologizing to me and telling me he understands. I told him that this is not right and I wanted to know why I was being treated this way and that I was very ticked off. Again, no answer.
He told me that after I send the screenshot of the said transfer I would have to wait for 2-3 days for my funds to be available to me. Well, then I was really ticked off! I am being treated very unfairly and I know that this is not right and can’t get any answers as to why this is happening. Now my bills are late and I am not sure what to do, because no one is giving me answers! If I get on there in a couple days and my money isn’t available to me, I’m not sure what my options are.
