Customer since 2017 unfortunately. It just keeps getting more and more expensive with either no improvements in quality or worsening quality. Now it's shoving AI down my throat with no option to turn that feature off. If I had control over bookkeeping software it would be among my last choices.

Horrible customer service, I had QBO for 4 years and it was bearable then stated another business in 2025 and started using it again for it only to be multitudes worse. Prices have increased and it has been impossible for me to reach customer service with a basic question. I am now actively seeking a better software than them.

I have been a QuickBooks Enterprise Manufacturing and Wholesale edition user for almost 18 years now. Over the last few years the pricing has risen dramatically and the functionality has been decreased. I used to pay bills basically with one click, sending the payment instructions to my bank. That functionality was taken away about 2 years ago with the addition of Melio which charges me to hold my money for 10 days when I have them write a check. So I am writing manual (printed) checks and stuffing envelopes like it is 1995. With my recent forced update I have corrupt files. Intuit has not responded to me in 24 hours with a solution and now the shipping manager is worthless as well. If you are starting a new business or looking for accounting software, stay far away from Quickbooks.

This company has become one of the worst money hungry ignorant bunch of idiots anyone has ever dealt with. Why should I put my company information online and trust you when your people can't even find their way out of a "paper bag" you do updates and everyone one of your employees. "I am sorry I only have a limited range of information. Let me transfer you..." I have been a customer for over 20 years and I am shopping for another accounting program ---- the price for everything has reached over $7500.00 a year which is ridiculous especially since your customer service sucks!!! And now your product sucks also... and letting you have my private information online there isn't a chance in hell that is ever going to happen, maybe you should spend sometime creating a better product with more trained employees.
Not only have you increased the price to a ignorant level, but your customer service after spending two complete days trying to get someone who actually knows what they are doing is completely unreal...talk about ruining my weekend. From now on I will mail my 941 and any other items believe me you aren't the only game in town!!!! I am an Accountant who will tell you run...run like you're on fire from this company. Do not ever put your information online. They will hold you hostage and charge you an enormous amount of money to get away from them.

I would give it Zero Stars!! WTH is happening with this company? We learned on Jan 8, 2026, that our accounts were closed. No email notice other than "We are closed." We contacted them right away and 3 1/2 hours later talking to 7!!!!! People no one knew what to say. All they said is "We will escalate." Called again on Friday, this time we were on hold for over an hour and 40 minutes and talked to 3 people. In November, I received a call from a foreign woman that says we owed qb $100,000 and that we needed to pay this back at a link she was going to send. Immediately, I sent an email to QB customer service asking to see if this was fraud. If not, that I needed to see correspondence on how this could have happened. Nothing.
So not thinking about it, I then noticed over $58,000 of deposits were placed on hold for over 5 days. Never happened before. Then Jan 8, a email that says we no longer have access to our accounts that our accounts have been cancelled. What??!! 28 hours in 4 days, talking with over 12 different people. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IS HAPPENING!!! And NO ONE cares. We have never in 22 years using QB and online EVER had an issue. I have been calling until I can not call any more. We have wasted so much time on hold trying to get answers. Finally had a young kid tell me, our accounts are closed and we will have to wait a year.
I can not print up W-2's, W-3's, Payroll taxes, nothing. Had to write checks at the last minute to pay payroll. Now I can not even access my employees' pay to enter into WAVE or another account. They canceled my account, even though they charged us $3,000 for it. No money back. No call back. Nothing!!!!! Then I had a collection agency call me to get money. We discussed the situation and I provided all the paperwork to show her we were still waiting for any correspondence to help explain what happened. She provided me with some paperwork and we immediately paid the amount owed. Now we have been told we could reapply to use QB in a year. If I have paid for service, how can they deny me the right to collect my information? They are impeding in my ability to run my operation and placing us at risk with IRS reporting and just being able to gather information for my employees. I am lost for words!!!!!

Many QuickBooks Online (QBO) users, frustrated with poor support, cite long wait times, agents lacking knowledge, difficulty resolving issues (like account access or billing), poor communication (delayed replies, chat lag), and feeling forced into higher tiers for help, leading to considering alternative accounting software. Common complaints include unresponsive support, generic solutions (same links sent repeatedly), and difficulty with complex tasks, making users feel stuck and unsupported.
• Slow & Ineffective Chat/Phone Support: Agents take forever to respond, ask for redundant info, or break connections.
• Lack of Product Knowledge: Support often seems inadequately trained on updates or core features.
• Account & Billing Problems: Users struggle to update banking info or regain access, with cases getting closed incorrectly.
• Forced Upgrades: Users feel pressured to pay for premium support or switch to higher-cost plans for basic help.
• App/Software Glitches: Problems like being logged out or slow app performance go unresolved.
What Users Suggest/Experience:• Escalation: Trying to get a manager or reaching out through different channels (Reddit, Trustpilot).
• Seeking Alternatives: Many consider switching to other accounting software.
• Using ProAdvisors: Some experienced bookkeepers find better help from other professionals rather than Intuit support.
How to (Try to) Get Help:• Use the Help icon within QBO to find chat or call options, but be prepared for potential frustration. If you're facing significant issues, document everything and consider seeking help from a QuickBooks ProAdvisor or looking into alternative accounting platforms to get the reliable support your business needs.

I gave her all the information from the email (she said I couldn't forward the email). The after 30 more minutes she said she was still investigating the issue. She then sent me an email asking me to fill out all the details I just told her!! I ask for a supervisor and she put me on hold and would not pick up; a supervisor never came to the phone! I was on the phone for 1 hour and 30 minutes! Unacceptable! QuickBooks charges us an enormous amount of money per year (prices have tripled) to have a subscription and then treat us terrible!

I can't even tell you how many various problems I've had over the years with Intuit. I'm over it. They're not worth the money & act as if you're captured by them!!! My experience with QB and their customer service has been horrible so far. They hold your deposits without any resolution and they do not realize how this can affect a small business owner. I am placed on hold for over 1 hour, continue to get re-routed to the "correct department" just to end up receiving a reference number of which I never receive an update for. They claim to have emailed me about my account but have not received this email, but for some reason I do get calls and emails about upgrading my services or adding on services. I would not recommend this to anyone.

QuickBooks tells me it is Microsoft's fault due to a snapdragon server... they told me i need to go out and buy a new computer or change my Microsoft software to an older version. Quickbooks signed me up for Live Expert service when they also upgraded me several versions of the software. I did not want Live Expert service; I didn't know what they signed me up for. When I did realize it, I called a couple days later and tried to cancel it. They gave me the run around for a couple days and I finally was able to cancel it & someone told me I would be refunded. Then I got an email a week later saying my refund was denied. This company is shady and unethical. I did not want or need that live expert service. Horribly run company. You only talk to people in other countries in call centers.

Quickbooks just cost me $50 bucks by not adding tax to a specific item when I had just corrected the tax classification live on the sales receipt before printing it out. Why is all the inventory I enter into the software non-taxable? I have spent countless hours correcting all the default "non-taxable" settings applied to everything I sell. I even hit the charge "tax on everything" setting and it still didn't tax it when it was supposed to. Additionally, I can not convert an estimate to a sales receipt, only an invoice. Not practical. Not user-friendly. It is major upkeep just to get the figures accurate.

Quickbooks should be a stable platform for business use. It is the MOST unreliable, un-intuitive and expensive (continually escalating fee) software I have used in my career (over 40 years). Intuit apparently tries to handle so much data, that it cannot support a simple data assimilation and reconciliation without numerous system crashes and unduly slowly responding software. I have searched for an alternative. I wish I could use the QB from 10 years ago. It did what was promised. The last several iterations are an absolute nightmare!

It was like calling a 1-star fast food chain's front counter. Zero help and major attitudes. It's clear that they are absolutely miserable working here. So, now I have to go through 8000+ transactions to FIX THEIR PROBLEM AND-re-do taxes for all 3 years. Seriously, you will understand how janky this software is within 3 days of using it. It's taken me quite some time to file a complaint, all my questions and calls have fallen on deaf ears. My experience with QB the last 2 years has been awful, we are actively interviewing and pricing out the cost to convert to an alternate vendor. We use QB Enterprise Desk Top, along with Intuit TIME for tracking staff time. TIME only syncs with QB half of the time. When it does not sync, it is no less than a 2 hour process in dealing with QB support to clear. This is a known problem that we have had at least every other month. Today alone, I have been dealing with them since 8:30 am, it is now 12:09 pm. This is a reoccurring issue that requires re-booting, or re-loading or re-something each time, on their end.
Calling in, arduous verification process, various animated assistance, various departments, and then re-verifying who I am over again, left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Absolutely terrible service, terrible product. On top of that there is a bank holiday this week, if this is not rectified today, my entire staff payroll, set for Friday, will be delayed. I would never recommend this company for anything.

I am a small business owner operating a junk removal and dumpster rental company. I used QuickBooks Merchant Services to invoice customers and collect payment before services were rendered. In November 2025, a customer committed fraud by using multiple different credit cards across several transactions. QuickBooks later confirmed this activity but has no system in place to flag or prevent it. After receiving chargebacks, I was advised by QuickBooks support to enroll in Chargeback Protection and was explicitly told that any disputes received after enrollment would be covered. Based on that information, I continued using the service.
Despite Chargeback Protection being active, additional chargebacks were received and QuickBooks denied coverage, stating—after hours on hold and multiple transfers—that protection is based on the transaction date, not the dispute date. This limitation is not clearly disclosed in the Chargeback Protection terms, and no one could provide written documentation to support this interpretation.
Customer service was extremely poor, escalation was impossible (until I contacted BBB), and the outcome was significant financial loss despite completed, legitimate services. Bottom line: QuickBooks Merchant Services offers inadequate fraud prevention, sells Chargeback Protection with unclear terms, and provides no meaningful resolution when fraud occurs. This platform is high risk for service-based businesses that rely on card-not-present payments. I would not recommend QuickBooks Merchant Services to contractors or small business owners.

I used Quickbooks Online for payroll. I was just notified by IRS that Form 941 was never received for 2022. I tried to log in to find it but the system would not allow me to Resubscribe. I spoke to support who told me they don't keep payroll tax records for more than 1 year. Not even the form they didn't prepare correctly. Now I'm out $1,080. Just trying to self-serve to get the form was insanely difficult. The frustration level I have felt every single time I tried to use QBO is untenable. Use ANY other product! I am very disappointment with Intuit QuickBooks products. The quality of their products has decreased significantly in the past several years. The customer service is horrendous. When you try to reach out to customer support through your account "Contact Us", you send up going in circles with and AI robot. They say they will connect you to a chat, but nothing happens. It is nearly impossible to get the support and assistance you need. Also, there are so many glitches. The feedback button stops working randomly, their reports take 10x longer to load now, and their payroll system is absolute garbage. If you can go with another service for your books, and especially for payroll. Do it. Do NOT go with QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Payroll. Incredibly disappointed.

I chose to become certified as a QB Pro Advisor and have been working with a Client for 3 months. A major reason I chose QB is the QB Payments feature where I do not handle ANY credit card data. QB Payment is PCI DSS compliant, so I thought I was all set. Wrong! Even though I do not see, store or use any credit card data, I also have to prove I am PCI compliant. The ONLY option to do that is through SecurityMetrics. Just to get the SAQ-A form completed so they can submit it to QB Payments for us is $85 per year. Plus they require a large yearly fee to help us remain compliant. This is NOT optional. The extra cost was not revealed until a month after we began using QBO. We never would have chosen to work with QBO if we had known this in the beginning. Currently looking for another accounting software that will fit our needs and not surprise us with large extra hidden costs!

I asked how this employee did this without any of the info that you are asking for? They said that they didn't know. Promised multiple calls back, crickets. Gave them the case number. They are very compartmentalized so you can never talk to the same people and we aren't allowed to talk to those trying to fix the issue. It would be SO much more efficient to connect us, but they refuse to do it. We can't even get to a supervisor without being on the phone for hours. They have no accountability and although many of the people who talk with on the phone are kind, they have no power to fix it or get us to the "right people." The fact it’s entirely too expensive is the very worst part. Don’t ever expect to be good with payroll taxes either. After all the updates they still can’t figure that out. And OMG the amount of sign in/passwords is unreal. Find any other software.

Prices have tripled almost overnight and now they have much worse customer service and forcing everyone into QBO, an inferior product that takes 4 times as many steps as Quickbooks Desktop to complete a simple transaction, print, consolidate a report without tons of unnecessary columns, and now they automatically file and pay payroll taxes incorrectly converted files and there's nothing you can do about it. You have to submit documents to a portal because it's all so unforgiving. The sales tax feature is pretty useless for most clients. Even as an accountant that has been an Advanced ProAdvisor with them for 20+ years, they don't trust me to make necessary changes without going through them. It's just so sad to see what it's become and the chaos and unnecessary extra money it has cost my clients to fix what Intuit broke. I cancelled my subscription and work off my old 2021 desktop program, which was wonderful back then.

This company use to be professional and efficient at handling all problems like most companies but once they start making millions of dollars off of their customers the quality of service drops below average. I had a situation where I changed business bank accounts so I needed help from a Quickbooks/Intuit representative to help me disconnect one bank and connect the new business bank account. The Quickbooks representative failed to tell me that I also needed to disconnect the old business account from Intuit payroll and connect the new business account. When I ran payroll intuit tried to pulls the funds from the old business account which was closed so they paid my contractor and put my account on hold. I had to pay intuit back the money they paid to my contractor plus $50 which was half of their original asking price for the return fee.
Even though I felt it was not my fault for the screw up, I still paid the return fee through one of their options called VERSAPAY plus .19 cents transaction fee. After paying VERSAPAY I noticed on my receipt it stated "Your payment method has been saved. If you are receiving emails from Versapay, a receipt will be emailed to you". I NEVER AUTHORIZED them to store or save my payment method. When I tried to call Intuit Payroll Risk at 866-729-2402, I was told my account was still on hold and that they could not remove or delete my payment method from Versapay. I've been a customer for over 10 years and I feel like Quickbooks is a money grabber and don't care about their customers. So I'm researching other business similar to the quickbooks platform to handle my business finances.

Bad Software, Bad support, High price. I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the ongoing and recurring problems I have experienced with QuickBooks over the years. Despite being a long-time paying customer, I continue to face serious issues that prevent me from using the software as intended. QuickBooks has consistently failed to provide a stable and reliable service, with repeated technical problems affecting essential features such as T4 processing, bill management, and other core accounting functions. These are not minor inconveniences—they directly disrupt business operations, waste valuable time, and cause unnecessary stress.
Even more concerning is the lack of effective customer support. Every time I contact QuickBooks for assistance, I am placed in an endless loop of unhelpful responses, transfers between departments, and scripted troubleshooting steps that do not resolve the underlying issue. The support representatives often refuse to escalate cases, and I have been repeatedly denied the opportunity to speak to a manager or someone with the authority to make meaningful decisions.
What makes this situation unacceptable is that QuickBooks charges a substantial ongoing subscription fee, yet fails to deliver consistent, dependable service or meaningful customer support. When the software malfunctions, I lose hours—sometimes days—of productivity, and QuickBooks refuses to offer any form of credit, compensation, or accountability for the downtime and frustration it causes.
This pattern of neglect and lack of responsibility is unacceptable for a company of Intuit’s size and reputation. Customers who rely on QuickBooks for essential business functions deserve transparency, reliability, and genuine support—not automated replies, repeated failures, and a refusal to take ownership of problems.
I urge QuickBooks to take this complaint seriously and to address both the systemic issues in its software and the deficiencies in its customer service. If these problems are not resolved or at least properly acknowledged, I intend to escalate this matter to provincial consumer protection authorities and any applicable regulatory agencies.

I agree with you Gregg and Ryan. This is the ABSOLUTE WORST SOFTWARE I HAVE EVER USED IN MY LIFE. I've used it for over a year and a 1/2 and it only keeps getting WORSE & WORSE.... I used to use QBD but now most of my clients use QBO. It's so limited in it's ability to function. I can go on and on, and on .... I called customer service in July 2025 and I was told they were making improvements in the next couple of month but it only got worse. The bank downloads can't read what's actually entered in QB as a business and because of that, deposits that aren't matched get recorded to "Gross Receipts" in the Bank Feeds, so I have to manually record them when these "Bank Feeds" should reduce the "Undeposited Funds" account but NO. I'm just so tired of spinning my wheels on this software. Diane

Intuit traps you into using their software! QBO is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! We had to switch from QBD because the annual fee just keeps going higher every year. I started using QBD in 2019 and it was $3,800.00/year. My subscription for 2025 was $6,400.00 and next year it would be almost 10k! They convinced me to go to QBO for $3,900.00/year which of course my comment to them was but that will keep going up every year also. I feel these subscription-based programs should be illegal, as I could still be using my 2019 version completely fine. There was NOTHING that was added or changed over the years that I use or need but I have to pay thousands of dollars just to use the software and once you're in, you are stuck.
Now with QBO, it seems like a software company just made it and is testing it out and I must say it is FAILING in SO MANY areas. So many things have been taken away or limited that I am having a hard time just taking care of normal day to day business. This is our first month on QBO and must have filed 50 complaints about important things that was in QBD that is now not supported in QBO. Some things were small, like limiting visible/print custom fields on invoices to 3 custom fields to major things like not supporting multiple taxes on one invoice and now not being able to close the month. I was going to do my monthly closing and it won't let me close the month because I have some items with negative counts.
My company will always have a few products with negative counts, as it was out of stock and customers pre-ordered the items. We have never had this issue in QBD and from what I read in QBD, you could set it to allow closing the month with negative counts, but that preference is not allowed in QBO. It's like QBO just wants to limit and control what they want to allow you to do even though it is very difficult or impossible! AND CHARGE YOU THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS to use a PROGRAM that FUNCTIONS like IT IS STILL in BETA TESTING.

I tried uploading properly formatted CSV files multiple times and got nothing but confusing errors. It’s unreliable, outdated, and feels like Intuit has completely abandoned this product.
When I contacted QuickBooks Merchant support, they just brushed me off. No real troubleshooting, no accountability — just “try again later.” For a company that charges this much, the lack of support is unacceptable. Save your time and your money. Hello, on 21st August 2025, Intuit, "QuickBooks", sent a request for me to provide a letter from my bank to confirm I have removed the Chase ACH Positive Pay Debit Block Feature for QuickBooks, to allow unlimited debits. About a week later, on August 29th, I sent the letter via email to QuickBooks from Chase Bank. Then I called a few weeks later and asked how to send the letter correctly, as I had noticed no difference in notifications on the website. I was sent the wrong email to respond to again, but I did not know it. More weeks go by.
Fast forward a few weeks, I'm doing books, and Intuit has 13k of my money. They said, "payment failed", "was not deducted from your account." The money was deducted but not sent to the vendor. So, after another 30 minutes on the phone today, I finally got the correct link. I am told, "Yes, Intuit has the money, 13k". "We can not give a timeline to review the letter, we can not give an average time it takes for a letter to be reviewed". "It takes an average of five business days after the letter is reviewed to refund the money that was taken."
My issues: The process to get the letter back to Intuit took three phone calls, over a month, and I had to say, "I was going to call the State of Michigan", for Intuit to send the correct email to direct the letter to the right inbox. This took 4-5 weeks. All the time they have my money, the website says it was not taken out of my account. The next issue is that they should be able to tell me how many days to review the letter. They have had the money for over a month already. Zero notification, actually misinformation when logging in. Intuit wasted its customers' time and refused to compensate them for the inconvenience. If the money Intuit takes from its customers like this were in a non-interest-bearing account, I find it hard to believe that it would be so hard to get back. Based on the way Intuit handled this, I would guess that they are earning a profit from holding onto customers' escrow money, so the longer it takes to return it, the better for Intuit.

Run, run, run from QuickBooks Intuit. Their entire system feels like it is designed to trap you in overpriced subscriptions while giving you no real support. I started out paying about $40 a month. When I needed help they told me I had to upgrade to the “Plus” subscription which costs over $100 a month just to get support. I upgraded and still received no help. They continued pushing me to pay even more. The support itself is a nightmare. You get transferred endlessly, usually offshore, with agents whose only job seems to be passing you from one department to another. Yesterday I was transferred five times before someone finally told me I supposedly had 24/7 live support and even scheduled me with a bookkeeper at 9 AM Pacific Time.
What actually happened was that Jason, the so-called bookkeeper, called me at 6 AM while I was asleep. When I called back to complain they promised another follow up. Jason called again around noon and admitted he was not a bookkeeper at all. He was in sales trying to push me into yet another subscription. So after paying more than double my original cost, wasting hours being bounced around, and being woken up at 6 AM, I still have no real support. Only sales pressure. I have had an extremely frustrating experience with this company and want to warn others before engaging with them. From the beginning, there were billing discrepancies that I repeatedly brought to their attention. Instead of receiving timely corrections, I was met with delays, vague responses, and contradictory explanations that did not resolve the problem.
Despite providing clear documentation and multiple follow-ups, the company continued to issue incorrect invoices. In several cases, I was charged for services or amounts that were not agreed upon. Attempts to speak with someone knowledgeable were met with transfers, long hold times, and in some cases, dropped calls. Emails often went unanswered for days or weeks, and when responses did come, they did not address the actual issue.
What makes this situation even more unacceptable is the lack of accountability. I was given different answers depending on who I spoke to, suggesting that the internal processes are either poorly managed or intentionally opaque. When I requested escalation to a higher-level representative or manager, the process stalled and no follow-up occurred.
This has cost me significant time, caused unnecessary stress, and left me feeling like the company’s priority is collecting payments rather than honoring accurate agreements with customers. Many times, there has been roosters crowing in the background while trying to speak with them. 90% of the time they never resolve the problem and I am left with no resolution to the reason for my call. They just transfer me to another department where it happens all over again where you have to repeat yourself all over again. Horrible.
Currently I have been trying to find out why a $20 charge was being automatically withdrawn from my business account. For days no one with Quickbooks could figure out what this charge was associated with. So I had to call my bank and pay the bank to stop payment. As soon as I did that Quickbooks emailed me with a case number and a merchant account number and notified me of inefficient funds and therefore noted a total return fee of $25 and a total return fee of $45 associated with them not being able to now withdraw the $20 because of the stop payment. They provided and phone number to call, so I called and tried to explain that I had to stop payment through my bank in order to then receive a case number and an account number so that I could then call back Quickbooks customer service so that they could be told this information so they could pull it up and tell me what account and why I am being charged the $20 a month.
The first customer rep that I spoke with was in the United States and you can immediately tell the difference with speaking clearly and I was shocked to speak with an American English speaking representative. I explained the situation and she said that she had another customer call and she had to deal with the same situation just the other day. However, she said that she would have to transfer my call to another department that would handle this. She assured me that they would be English clearly speaking representatives and knew how to handle this situation. NOPE! I was transferred to an offshore department all over again.
I tried to be patient by having to explain all over again what my situation was. However, when I finished explaining, the rep didn't say anything back to me and hit the transfer button, transferring me over to another person that answered the phone that sounded very similar... most likely in the same department. This rep was even worse... acted like they really wasn't understanding what I was trying to explain to them.
After a while of not getting anywhere with this person, I just hung up. I called back and started all over again. I was finally able to connect with someone that was able to close this account that wasn't supposed to be open due to us closing it sometime last year. Then when I asked for all of the $20 a month charges to be refunded back to me, they said they had to transfer my call to another department. I then went through three different representatives and I have been on and off hold with the third one for about an hour and a half now. I'm still on hold while I type this review out. This has to be the worst customer service experience I have ever had in my entire 52 years of being alive. I will be now having to take more time away from my business to research better software companies to use for our business accounting.

Struggling to perform simple everyday accounting tasks and spending WAY too much time trying to find out how to do things again. Simply terrible. Over the last year they have slowly changed things that used to be one-click operations to tasks that now require multiple clicks to get to the same information. Then, they bloated the software with all kinds of crap, like AI, and it now takes forever to load. Top it off with their over-priced fees. I've been using QB for over 10 years, both desktop and cloud versions, so I'm not a new customer that doesn't know how to use their product... Yes I made a mistake but even my customer service rep agreed it is crazy that the data is deleted especially after just a pop up window confirms and doesn’t even give a warning about my data being deleted. After reading on the Intuit website that if I resubscribe I can reaccess my data within one year. Nope. So no additional services were added other than they're mandatory updates, which half the time would screw up my files and prompt another update. I called livid about this and was given to a sales rep who barely spoke English and offered a "discount" so I only paid $955! When I chatted to do they said they did process it but when it went up higher in the company they denied it. No communication on their end. The other issue is a customer paid an invoice from us via QB payment portal and the money never got deposited into our account. They said it takes 60 days in order to return money to customer or we can sign up for more services and collect the money and then cancel the additional services. For the past month, I have repeatedly requested same-day payroll processing to avoid having to enter estimated payroll time for the last day of the billing cycle. My company's requests to switch from 5-day to same-day processing have been denied approximately five times, with each denial offering a different explanation. Most recently, I was informed that a "business decision" was made and that no reason for the denial needed to be provided. In addition to this, QBO has a number of technical issues that hinder our daily operations. These include:
* The inability to directly add payments to reduce liability within the Sales Tax module when a payment is made to the reporting state. Instead, we are forced to use a workaround that involves posting to a clearing account and creating a journal entry to reduce the liability, which is necessary to match the incoming bank transaction.
* The restriction of paying vendors through the platform to only using QBO's checking or line of credit, disallowing the use of other bank accounts.
Furthermore, it is concerning that QBO requires a $30 monthly fee to access support staff who can identify these program shortcomings, only to then guide us through workarounds that over complicate our day-to-day tasks.

That unexpected charge was placed on my credit card and caused my credit score to drop significantly. QuickBooks Online often rolls out new features without fully testing those features. Case in point, there's a feature called "send and fund", to send out an invoice to a customer. "Send and fund" will allow you to create an invoice, send that invoice and then automatically charge the account from whatever payment method they have on file with your company. The major problem as of June 20th 2025, is that QuickBooks Online will offer you this feature and tell you that the account has been charged even if they don't have a payment method on file. How is it that a multi-billion dollar company can come up with features without fully testing them before they're released?
This becomes a major nightmare for any bookkeeper of any company. An invoice that says it has been paid, the money has not been transferred to your account because no payment method is on file. If no payment method is on file, then the send and fund feature should not be an option as you send out each invoice. QuickBooks needs to scale back, rethink and reproach a lot of their basic features. There are too many rollouts being authorized by the hierarchy without enough beta testing. For this reason, we are looking for another platform to shift our businesses over to.

Then they started automatic online push updates. Then the price began to rise from reasonable to now exorbitant.
Now, in an effort to force desktop customers to their online version, they have discontinued the desktop version I use. Because they were able to force update, they have installed a version that only permits viewing my data and will not provide a license for continued use of the product to continue accounting use, I consider that a practice form of ransomware because essentially they have taken control if my data and while allowing need to see it, they do not allow workable access. They say they have a right to hold the funds for 180 days, per the Merchant Agreement. They told me if I want to get my money, the customer has to file a dispute AGAINST ME. WHAT?!!
So I professionally asked my customers to dispute the charges and explained to them that QB is fraudulently holding their payment and not releasing it to me. Here's the kicker: The customers are not able to dispute the funds because their bank/credit card requires evidence that the funds haven't been released to me. I don't have evidence that I didn't/won't receive the funds, and there is no where in my QB account that says funds will be held for 180 days or until the customer disputes the charges, so I cannot give my customers evidence to support their dispute, either! On top of that, QB won't tell me where the funds will go after 180 days!
Quickbooks is fraudulently holding and has stolen nearly $6,000 from me. Unfortunately, three large payments were later reversed after we had already delivered the product, resulting in over $30,000 in losses. These transactions were initially marked as cleared by QuickBooks, and we were given no ability to dispute or intervene in the reversal process. The loss included $24,747 in unrecoverable physical product that was shipped and later seen resold out of state, which has been reported to the FBI. Despite our efforts to escalate the issue and request assistance, QuickBooks cited their Terms of Service and declined to offer any reimbursement or solution.
This experience has been extremely damaging to our small business. We strongly urge other merchants using QuickBooks to understand that ACH payments processed through this platform are not protected, and can be pulled back months later — even after funds are transferred and fulfillment has occurred. We’ve since switched to a different processor with stronger fraud tools, delayed fulfillment protocols, and merchant dispute rights. Let me lay out my disastrous experience with QuickBooks Online so you don't make the same mistake. It started with a seemingly reasonable $135 annual fee – a classic bait-and-switch. Year two? That jumped to $270. Okay, annoying, but I was already somewhat integrated. Then came the two years where I was foolishly paying $320 annually for a service that was clearly deteriorating. And now, the audacity! They want $378 a year! For what?!
The "service" is a joke. Prepare to waste hours on hold with support that seems equally bewildered by their own software. Their support hours are laughably inconvenient. And the software itself? A buggy, unreliable mess. Bank feeds break constantly, features don't work as advertised – it's a constant source of frustration.
The bottom line? Intuit has consistently jacked up the price year after year while the quality of their product and support has steadily declined. You will pay more and more for a service that delivers less and less. My advice is simple: DO NOT waste your time or money on QuickBooks Online. There are far better accounting solutions out there that offer reliable service at a fair price. Learn from my mistake and look elsewhere. You'll thank me later. This isn't a service; it's a rip-off.

I have had to call many multiple times to resolve matters, with repeated unfulfilled promises that the "backend" team will call me back. Many of their customer representatives should not be in any kind of customer service whatsoever. They put you on hold for a ridiculous amount of time only to not be able to resolve the problem. Today I had a representative tell me she had already been working at 2 years. Wow! That is supposed to be impressive? Of course, problem not resolved and QB has all kinds of policies in place to cheat the customer out of their money. These guys make even Comcast look amazing by comparison.

I would give a 0. Using payroll our company had multiple employees on manual checks which their system said recognized. With that being said, we cut manual checks, yet they still direct deposited them into an account that was not in use anymore. So, these people received pay twice and multiple times, on the same day. When we addressed this, they walked us through getting a reversal done but they were not able to get the extra funds that their system paid in error and expect us to pay them (QuickBooks) for their systems mistake.
We have proof of duplicates, and their customer service side said they would handle it and get back to us to no avail, months later we started getting nasty calls from other departments demanding payment to be returned and not even trying to understand that we had complaints that have not been addressed yet, on top of that they have now taken double payroll from us for two employees again without authorization. So, we are now out 1738.21 plus employee dollars, and they are trying to get another 800.00 dollars from us which they have sent us to collections for. Has anyone else seen these issues?
This is the worst company I have ever worked with in 20 plus years, we have had multiple issues, especially since they launched their AI. I have filed multiple complaints with them and have got nowhere and no response, besides I need to go after the employee even though we cannot at this point. I am more concerned about how many people could and might not even know they were affected, so if you are still using it and have not, I would watch out for this and if you have seen it let's talk, I do not believe it was our account only, so this is what happened in short.

Quickbooks has raised their rates in the last 2 yrs for payroll subscription, then they added a per employee rate for payroll, then they doubled the cost for the per employee rate, then they doubled the subscription fee. When I called to enquire about cancelling the desktop subscription - I was told that if I do that - I will lose all access to my company files dating back to 2003. Customers, Vendors etc.

I have been a Quickbooks Desktop User for the past 15 years and this year I decided to move to the Online Version thinking that I would find the usual technical support and service which I've known them for in all these years.
Unfortunately, this has been the fourth time that I call their customer service department in relation to an issue which I am facing, while using the QBO Advanced version which is promoting something that it should not. I have three companies registered with them, one of which has more sensitive accounting data, for which I decided to pay the "Advanced" version, which I was hoping would flawlessly handle the User Role configuration, as it used to in the Desktop version. One of the functions which I appreciated in the QB Desktop version was the fact that I assigned to a specific employee the Custom Role of being able to accomplish automated Asset Depreciation and management over its useful life. This function simplified our life quite a bit.
As a Company Admin, I am able to reach that functionality under the Advanced Accounting Tab / Fixed Asset, but NONE of the other Roles assigned to my employees, (even Custom Roles to which I have granted ALL privileges), can find a way to access this function. If it cannot be done, WHY PUBLISH that it can. Have their software engineers forgotten that function somewhere, and it skipped their attention. If it has, things do go wrong sometimes... but I would hope that someone from their team, tells me that it is the case and that it will be addressed in "x" time, hopefully sooner than later. If it will never be addressed or they do not care to have it addressed, I would also appreciate that they let me know.
This message is my last attempt at trying to address this issue for which their client services clearly do not have a clue of what I am telling them or how to go about it. They send me instead all kinds of links related to "HOW TO CREATE A CUSTOM ROLE", which has absolutely no bearing to the kind of answer that I am hoping for. I worked hard to migrate from Desktop to Online and would hope to find proper closure to this issue. Since I cannot grant Full Company Admin privileges to my staff, it would mean that I will have to find a better accounting software to handle our stuff. I hope not to have wasted my time thus far... Let's see if this takes me somewhere worth it.

Told me I had to upgrade to Advanced in order to move back. The last person said I had to use exportmybooks.com to migrate back and said there would be no charge. At this point we had already fulfilled the order so we told Quickbooks we could not re-fund that amount. They submitted us to a debt collector which we had to pay because in very small letters in their contract it does say that anything you owe Quickbooks you are PERSONALLY liable for regardless if you are an LLC or S Corp. This means that Quickbooks can come after your personal assets even if they made a mistake according to their contract. BE VERY CAREFUL OF QUICKBOOKS - it is not worth it.

I am a current user of QuickBooks Online (QBO) Accountant and recently had an incredibly frustrating experience with their payment system. On March 1, I used QBO to record a check payment received from a client on 12/31/2024—not to process an ACH transaction. My client's checking information was stored in QBO from when I previously used their ACH payment service, but I had stopped using it due to the fees.
On March 2, I received a "Money on the way!" email, indicating the payment was being processed through QuickBooks Payments (ACH) without my authorization. I immediately checked QBO to see if I had mistakenly selected "Charge Payment" instead of "Record Payment," but that was not the case. I attempted to cancel or refund the transaction in every possible way—through the Payments page, Merchant Center, and other sections—without success. However, since it was Sunday night, I had to wait until Monday to speak with customer service.
On March 3, I called QBO support. The representative was polite and confirmed that I had followed all the correct steps—the mistake was not on my end. I explained that I just wanted to fix the issue and would happily write my client a check to refund them. I also requested a refund of the $9.05 processing fee I was wrongfully charged. After a 1 hour and 27-minute call, the representative told me she needed approval to process the refund. I was asked to provide proof of the refund, which I did, submitting:
- A photo of the check I issued to my client- A deposit slip receipt
- A screenshot showing the check had cleared my account
Despite providing all this proof, no refund was processed. On March 18, I called QBO again to follow up, as I had still not received my $9.05 refund. Additionally, I requested that my client’s saved banking information be removed from QBO to prevent this from happening again. After another 1-hour and 6-minute call, I was told the refund was finally "approved." However, after an additional 41 minutes, I was informed that QBO simply could not remove my client’s bank account information.
This experience has been incredibly frustrating and unprofessional. Mistakenly processing an ACH transaction without authorization and making it impossible to delete stored banking details is a huge security and privacy concern. This is no way to do business. QBO needs to fix these system issues, empower their support team with better tools, and prioritize user control over stored payment information.

Customer service agent number two I spoke with did not know what customer service number one is doing or had done on the issue. Now you start the process all over with customer service number two who as usual assures you the issue will is addressed yet will not. Then when you find out and call again customer service number three does not know what first or second customer service did.
This has been the case with my company end of year taxes since November of 2024. Do NOT recommend. I have heard better things about Wave and FreshBooks. QB has incredibly bad customer support - hard to use features - confusing platform. I have a background in Finance & Accounting, so avoided using QB until I had no option but to use it because I had so many transactions. I have been using QB across 4 entities for about a month and could not have worse things to say about the set-up experience and customer support. I am shocked that anyone without finance and accounting expertise is able to navigate their platform. Further, my experience with support has been textbook terrible. I've been sent on a seemingly endless chase for something rather simple. I'm writing to you on minute 120 and call 4 of trying to disconnect 3 accounts from a Quickbooks login I have... HELP.

QB is discontinuing the desktop versions. We live in a remote area where single digit internet speed is common. Just doing updates has to be started at 10 pm and run all night during off peak. Or load up the laptop and drive to an area with signal. Now they have priced the payroll subscription out of reach at $1100 for a 2-person operation. And another $700/yearly just to keep access to my desktop data? We are looking at exiting this ludicrous, ransom-driven Jabba beast.

I just now signed out and customer service is by far one of the worse experiences I have ever in my life had!! Horrible. Just signed up and before I even get into my demo to set everything up. No one can help me. Has taken me 2 hours and I still don't have any help!!!! Absoulutely horrible!!!! The worse by far. I am now going to cancel. You just lost a customer in under 1 hour. I was all about Quickbooks until I see how thier customer service is. Horrible zero rating. I would recommend not using this company!!!!

Quickbooks has the most useless customer support. The chat just reads a script and guesses, and it's 1 hour + wait time on the phone. Even after the wait, they are of no help. Choose any other accounting solution and do not waste your time.

This is the worst accounting program there is and their support is terrible. System is always slow. There is never a support person readily available. Causes more issues than it helps with. It would be easier for me to do accounting using a spreadsheet. This program and company sucks.

Customer service is completely incapable of resolving issues. My autofill function is not working on my Quickbook internet service. No one can pick up the ball and stay with it. Most "experts" at the company know less than you do about the software and just read from the pop up notes that you can clearly read on your own. Useless, useless, useless. Thinking of canceling and going with another provider. I was happy with the desktop version but they can't juice you for as much money as they can for the internet version. Their CEO brags about integrating AI solutions into the company's software and services. He should be embarrassed by the lack of effective support his people provide. Hire some engineers, not more useless customer service "experts".

The product itself is fine but the company is horrible. They hit me with charges that I didn’t approve. I attempted to cancel the unapproved payments for months and still haven’t figured out how to cancel them. If you give them your card info they are going to charge you for things you don’t ask for or need. I was told all of my payments were cancelled and I switched my booking system and woke up this morning to two more charges. I have no idea how to get them to stop charging me.

Let me tell you why QuickBooks is so hated... They allowed fraudulent deposits to be ran through my account even though we caught it and reported it within 30 minutes of hitting our QB account! They froze everything but still allowed thousands of dollars (over $21,000) to be wrongfully withdrawn from our bank account AFTER we called several times and they told us not to worry since everything was frozen. Last time we called since they don't know how to call us back, to check on getting the funds reversed and back into our account, representative told us 60-90 days for resolution lol what business can shut down for 60-90 days??!!! Terrible terrible terrible company and business model. Not a good way to keep current customers.

Helpful when starting my business to see some metrics and get my CPA what he needed. Customer service is horrible. Impossible to get anything accomplished without spending hours unless you already know what you are doing, in which case you probably aren't using Qbooks. Horrible customer service. Like an insurance company or Comcast.

I am a 32 yr customer and Quickbooks price has increased to a ridiculous amount…$1700. They refuse to come up with a product for the small mom & pop business. I have complained for years. They are greedy, don’t listen, and could care less about the customer. Will never refer anyone. You should be ashamed of price gouging. I’m out and will never be back!
