SOS Auto Protect coverage and plans

SOS Auto Protect offers three plan options depending on your needs.

  • Standard: A basic option that covers the most expensive components of your car’s drivetrain.
  • Premium: A middle-tier plan that covers all drivetrain components plus seals, gaskets and steering systems.
  • Ultimate: The most comprehensive, bumper-to-bumper plan that covers all major components of your car.

How does SOS Auto Protect work?

To get a quote, you can either call the company directly or use the online quote tool and have a representative contact you to discuss coverage options. You can purchase extended warranties in monthly, two-, three-, four- and five-year terms, and you get to choose your deductible, ranging from $100 to $500.

After you sign up, there’s a mandatory 30-day waiting period before you can use your policy. After this time, you can take your car to any dealership or ASE-certified mechanic nationwide, provide your policy information and they’ll work directly with SOS Auto Protect to authorize your claim and collect payment. As long as the repair is covered, the only amount you’ll owe is your deductible, which is payable directly to the repair facility.

SOS Auto Protect cost

Pricing is determined by the vehicle’s year, make, model, mileage, title brand and use (for example, if your car is used for commercial purposes like ride-sharing). We received a quote for a 2013 Toyota Rav4 for a five-year/50,000-mile Ultimate plan for $2,705 or $541 per year.

SOS Auto Protect also allows you to choose your deductible, ranging from $100 to $500.

Most SOS Auto Protect plans require upfront payment for the entire premium, though you may be approved for a prorated payment plan. All plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee if you’re not satisfied.

SOS Auto Protect additional services

In addition to standard repair services covered by your extended warranty, SOS Auto Protect’s plans also include the following services:

  • Roadside assistance: Includes towing ($100 per occurrence), jump-starts, tire changes and lockout assistance.
  • Rental car reimbursement: $35 per day for a maximum of seven days, totaling up to $265 per breakdown.
  • Hotel reimbursement/trip interruption: $60 per day for up to three days, provided the vehicle is at least 100 miles away from home.

SOS Auto Protect coverage limits

With all three plan options — Standard, Premium and Ultimate — there are no payout caps or limitations on any approved claims. SOS Auto Protect also offers its contracts for all cars, regardless of the vehicle’s mileage or age.

    I’ve had SOS Auto Protect for a few months now and honestly I wasn’t sure if it was gonna be worth it.       $1800 in repairs. That’s what it would’ve cost me out of pocket when the engine mounts and a bunch of internal parts failed. But SOS had it covered. They worked with the shop directly and I never had to worry about reimbursement. Honestly, I'm still a little shocked at how smooth it was. I paid a LOT less than that for the policy itself over the last few months.

      Do not use this company. I've called many times and all you get is the intake line. They never call or email you back about your concerns when it comes to delay on inspection or authorization. My car has been in the shop for almost a month. And I've callled everyday. You never get to speak with anyone higher than intake to get your issues resolved. All they do is take a message and never call you back. Waste of time and money.

      I was told that SOS was a very good business. They were polite, helpful and thoughtful. But I have found out since I have needed them to help me with my car. There was one gentleman named Adam very, very rude. Very, very disrespectful, no care for the customer.. He stated that my situation was not important and that it was not an emergency. He threatened to hang up in my face with no help at all. This has been going on for 2 weeks now.

      Find a place that cares. Don't find a place that somebody recommends to you because. Just because they treat that person, right? Don't mean they will treat you right. I ask to speak to his supervisor and he made the comment. I don't have the CEO's number so I can't. Then he goes to say that he's the top person and it doesn't go any further. And he can only do so much without even trying to assist me without even trying to get an inspector out to get my car inspected so I can get fixed. I am so upset right now the customer service at SOS warranty protection is awful..

      Submitted an inquiry for warranty services, received a call back to discuss options and advised the rep I would get back to them with any interest. Subsequently I received NO LESS than 8 follow up call seeking my business which is completely ridiculous and harassing. Needless to say I did not give this company my business and requested multiple times to have my phone number removed from their outbound dialer and lose my number!
