I have a 2001 Dodge Truck 1500. I was taking my kids to baseball game and as I was driving, my hood flew up into my windshield. I couldn't see and almost wrecked. I had two kids in the truck and luckily pulled off to the side of the road before hitting something. It took me 20 minutes just to get it back down and everything was completely damaged.

Hood latch on 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck unexpectedly opened while driving down the road towing a trailer. No problems with it in the past. The corners of the metal on the hood are bent, the hood would not latch back down. Slight chip on the windshield. Talked to Dodge dealer where it was purchased - they will not cover it, even though it was recalled in 2001.

I was wondering if someone has complained about 2006 Dodge Durango water seizing up the power steering when you go over a puddle. It seems that there is no shroud cover protecting the pulley and belt. I nearly had an accident when I went over a puddle and my pulley/belt got wet and I completely lost my power steering. This is very dangerous and there should be something covering that area to prevent this from occurring.

My ram 1500 caught fire driving down the highway. Insurance company says a small exhaust leak heated up the undercarriage, causing the protective coating to melt, leaking onto the tank and catching fire. the entire tank is melted, all hoses leading to the gas tank and the shocks were comprimised, the bedliner melted to the truck. does anyone think this is normal? there was not a thing wrong with this truck previous to this fire. all normal recalls were done and there was no check engine issue nor was there a noticeable notion that there was a exhaust leak. dodge won't even talk to me about it. if you have an exhaust leak, you could ignite your truck? does that make any sense?
I was lucky, i was traveling on the highway in a torrential downpour and the truck just died. the fuel line had been burnt away and no longer fed the engine. according to the insurance adjuster, the mechanic who replaced the tank and a local dodge dealer in PA said I was the luckiest person on the planet that I didn't go up in flames. I know it is difficult to explode a vehicle, but this was much closer than i ever want to come. i need some help with talking to dodge about it because they won't even consider talking to me about it because my insurance company repaired the truck.
they told me to contact dodge after the repairs were made, so that is what i did. big mistake. i had tried to get someone from dodge right after it happened, but they didn't get back to me and i have no other vehicle to drive. this scenario scares me. anyone else ever have anything like this happen?
i had to pay out for the repairs, but more importantly, me and my family were at risk due to a exhaust leak that supposedly caused this fire. we could have all been killed.

I purchased a 2001 Dodge Durango in 2004. I purchased an extended warranty on the vehicle to protect from any expensive repairs. The car gave me little to no issues during the 1st four years of a 60 month car loan, in which I carried over about 5K of negative equity on a 98 durango, which started having transmission problems around 100K miles. So far I have had 2 recalls on the Durango wich were repaired free of charge. Now that I am in last leg of the loan, with over 7K left on the payoff, the worst of the worst happens. I am driving one day and I smell and see smoke. The smoke gets worst and worst as I attempt to at least get close to my destination. Finally the car stops in the middle of a highway. Some nice guys passing by stop and push my car to the side, and look under the hood. It is apparent that there is plenty of engine sludge everywhere. I have the car towed to the dealership.
I get a call a few hours later, that the car overheated causing the engine to burn up,and some of the nearby hoses. I am told that to repair this, with a rebuilt engine will cost over 6 thousand dollars. Imagine my shock and disgust as I a car owner that changes her oil every 3000 miles. I am now at 103, 000 miles where conveniently the warranty no longer applies. I do not have 6400 dollars to sink into this nightmare vehicle. I suppose I should have learned from the 98 Durango which started to give problems around 100K. So currently I have a 7600 dollar car loan, and no car, and heading towards the wonderful wintry east coast season. Even buying an engine outside of the dealership will cost over 3K as the 2001 Dodge Durango has a unique 4.7 16 tooth crankshaft engine.
Paying on a car loan for a car that does not run.

If having a vehicle you can't touch without dealer mechanic intervention sounds like a scams, looks like scam amd smells like a scam..it is a scam. I can disarm the alarm, but the kill switch mod needs to operate to start the engine..what a predatory engineering ploy..and Dodge says it's for theft prevention..to protect or property....more like stealing money from us... what a freaking scam..........

In November of 2005, I traded a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel for a similar 2005 HO Dodge Ram 2500 diesel.I had noticed that on many occasions after putting the truck in drive (indicator on D)that the truck would still be in neutral. I took it to a local Dodge dealership in Reidsville, N.C.(Smith Stokes Dodge) The mechanics were able to duplicate the problem and after some adjustments, seemed to improve the situation. After driving the truck for a couple of months I noticed that when I put the truck in park (Indicator on P) it would not be in park but reverse.Soon after this happened a couple of times I received a recall notice from Chrysler Corp. and scheduled an appointment with the same company.I asked upon arrival what the recall was about and was told it had to do with the gear linkage. After the work was finished I left and later that day stopped to get diesel fuel.I normally leave my truck running while refueling and noticed that as soon as I opened my door to get out that the LOUD horn on my truck started blowing.I called the dealership who did the recall work and was told that this was normal as this would warn owners if they thought there truck was in park but it wasn't.The horn would blow when backing my camper into a space, while backing my boat into the water, anytime the drivers door was opened and the vehicle was in reverse(or sometimes when I thought it was in park when it was really in reverse).I took the truck back to the dealer and demanded that they remove the recall work and fix the main problem which was that the vehicle was not always in the gear the driver thought it was. They said that there was nothing that they could do.After living with this problem for over a year and vowing to never purchase another Chrysler product I parked my truck near a light pole in a Food Lions parking lot. After returning from the store, I cranked the vehicle and started to move forward and heard a glass bottle shatter.I put the truck in park and opened the door and had one foot on the ground when the truck started to move in reverse. Before I could pull myself back into the truck and engage the brakes my drivers door got wedged against the concrete pad for the light pole and bent my door all the way back around. The truck had come out of park and had gone into reverse without any intervention. It cost several thousand to repair and so I contacted the Chrysler Corp. and told them that because of the design flaw in there trucks that they should help out with the repair charges. After two months of waiting I received a reply that stated that there was no problem with there trucks that the problem was with the driver thinking the vehicle was in park when it actually was not. They denied any responsibility or help fixing my truck.I contacted the NHTSA and filed a complaint.I found out through an agent that there had been over 2300 instances similar to mine and that some had resulted in deaths. The agent further stated that he knew that there was a problem but to take on the Chrysler Corp.would be too expensive and time consuming. This is the end to this story as I never heard from anyone at Chrysler again.
I have found out that my vehicles worth and resale value is considerably less because of the recall and the patch performed as opposed to fixing the real problem.

I have a 2003 Dodge Durango. It just went over the 50,000 mile mark and the transmission is no good. I will need to cough up $2500 for a new transmission. This is ridiculous. The guy at Aamco transmission said that this should not happen on my truck until about 200,000 miles. I am mad as hell. I am going to write multiple letters to Dodge and complain. Hopefully, they will pay for my transmission, since it is obviously a manufacturer defect.
All of a sudden, the truck would start off in 3rd gear and the engine light would come on. Some snap ring that goes around the clutch on the trasmission broke off and was lying in the transmission pan. Also, the control box was no good too.

I have a 2001 Dodge Durango and I had repetitive problems with the front brakes. We never had any problems with them until the pads and rotors were replaced arond 30,000 miles. After that, they started vibrating and squealing after a few hundred miles. The repair place warrantied their work and replaced the pads and rotors. The vehicle was driven very little during the following year due to a military deployment. After driving it about 500 miles, the brakes did the same thing again. Another set of brakes and rotors. Another 500 miles and the brakes locked up driving down the interstate at 70 mph. Another set of brakes and rotors and new calipers. At this time we were lucky enough to take it to a repairman that figured out the top bolts that hold the brake caliper on had been cross-threaded. This caused the pads to brake against the rotor at an angle and wear unevenly. After replacing the steering knuckles (the part the bolts cross-threaded into and damaged) on both sides of the front end, there have been no further problems with the brakes. This whole ordeal cost about $1500. The way the front brake system is designed makes it very difficult to get the caliper on correctly after installing new pads. After reading all the reports of brake problems, I wanted to share my story in hopes that everyone that owns a Durango makes sure that the person installing your new brakes does it correctly.

My wife and I bought a 99 Durango a year ago. Worst vehicle a person could purchase. In this last year, I have replaced: The engine, the transmission, front upper and lower balljoints and the PCM. The front brake rotor locked up and almost caught the front passenger side of the truck on fire. The cruise control stopped working, I think the neutral safety switch is going out because it will occasionally only start in neutral. There is a squeal in the rear I cant figure out, it burned up the ignition system which I had to replace and the rear main oil seal is shot. Oh yeah, it failed state inspection because the air won't switch over to defrost. I have a 2001 Dodge Ram, great truck with the exact same motor and trans in it and I've had non other than typical dodge flaws-transmission. No big deal, I knew that when I bought the truck, but it leads me to believe that the electrical system in the durango is the heart of it all. Before we replaced the PCM, my wife was driving it with our child in the car and it stalled once on the freeway, and another time in a main cross street going to the highway. If you have one of these cars save yourself the safety concerns and get rid of it. I am going to let mine run until it catches on fir and burns up on the side of the road so that I will be able to sue it's designer. Good luck to all!
Several safety hazards to include stalling on the freeway, at main intersections and ignition instability. Brake fire hazard and defrost failure. I know it older model and due for errors, but statistically this vehicle model is a disaster.

I bought a 2000 Durango in 2005 with 60,000 miles on it. A 2 weeks after purchasing the car, the transmission completely broke down. It had a warranty and was replaced by the transmission shop. A 6 months later, the transmission broke down again. To make the long story short, I have had to replace the transmission once a year. It costs me about 2000 dollars a year since I have to replace the transmission every year. Not including rental car costs while it's in the shop. Funny how the warranty has always just expired. Now the strut in the transmission has broke (I found pieces of it in the pan). So at the moment, I have no second gear. To fix this problem, it will cost $1500 to $1800. I will NEVER buy a Dodge again. If it wasn't so pathetic, I would be laughing. Dodge really made a money-making machine with their Durangos.

Yesterday, August 20th I took off in my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 to meet a friend. Traveling down the hwy 97, which was wet and freshly sealed, I lost control of my truck traveling between 55 and 60 mph. I started to slide into the ditch and as they are very steep I swerved to avoid entering and braked. As I severed to avoid one ditch I headed for the other causing me to jerk my wheel back the other direction. Putting me back into the ditch I had been in previously. As I entered the ditch with the front right end impacting first I began to roll. My truck rolled 4 or 5 times, around a tenth of a mile. I am alive today because I was wearing my seat belt.
My truck has suffered severe damage and will be totalled. My windsheild is shattered along with both side windows, and the roof of my truck caved in enough that my head was touching when my truck stopped, resting on the passanger side. I climbed out the drivers side window. Both tires on the passenger side of my truck were ripped off. The impact being so hard it tore the axle off the rear end tire. The drivers side rear tire also suffered damage and is ruined.
My mother is an RN and was amazed at the fact that I wallked away as is the Hwy Patrolman that was called to the scene. I have two airbags in my truck. Neither one of them deployed. I have bruising on my chest due to my seat belt, along with cuts from the broken glass. In addition I have a severe headache caused by impacting the roof of my truck when it caved in. If anyone would be willing to give me advice I would greatly appreciate it.

In April of 2003, after 33 years of being a GM man, I purchased a brand new 2003 Dodge Durango and for the first three years I had no major problems. Then in the summer of 2006, I started to experience an idle problem. When the engine would warm up and I came to a stop, in gear or in park, the idle would fluctuate between 1,200 rpm down to below 500 rpm and felt like it was going to stall out, but never did. No check engine light indicated. I took the vehicle into the dealership on August 16th of 2006 (35,716 miles) to see if they could find out what the problem was. At that time, I had a tune up and throttle body service done. The problem persisted and on August 21st (35,868 miles), I returned to the dealership and they replaced the Idle Air Control Motor and did a flash power control module. At this time, the mechanic suggested I have an injector service done. I had no further problems that summer and had the injector service done in April of 2007 (42,903 miles).
Then in August of 2007, the problem arose again. Went back to the dealership on August 8th of 2007 (46,222 miles) and they performed another throttle body service and again this seemed to correct the problem. Then in July of 2008, the problem arose again, only this time the engine stalled in my driveway. Went to the dealership on July 16th of 2008 (54,881 miles) and they did a diagnostic check and reset the AIS values. This seemed to work for about three weeks. Then on August 6th of 2008 (55,400 miles), it stalled again, only this time when I was making a turn onto my street. Went back to the dealership and they did the same thing that they did on July 16th.
Through all of these visits and the mechanic is stumped, of course, the vehicle would never have the problem when in the service garage or when road tested. The mechanic stated that we could start replacing things, that it could be, i.e., fuel pump, IAC motor or injectors but he could not guarantee that any of these would solve the problem. During all of these occurrences not once did the service engine light come on, therefore nothing indicates on the computer.

We own a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 it has a little over 91,000 miles on it. It was blowing a little smoke and the engine was missing. First we took it to a diesel mechanic because we thought it was going to be the fuel injectors. The independent mechanic confirmed that it was the fuel injectors. He completly cleaned the fuel tank, fuel filter, fuel canister, and all fuel lines. Because this is the second time that we have had a injector problem with a Dodge product the other truck was a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 and the dealership said it was contaminated fuel and voided our warranty. so this time we were going to be prepared. We picked up the truck from the indepentdent mechanic and took it to Allen Samuels in Ennis, TX. They called and said our fuel filter was dirty and that the canister had contaminated fuel in it. Which is impossible because we had all the cleaned and drove the truck less than a 100 miles. so they again voided our warranty. In our immediate family we own 5 Dodge Ram 3500's 3 of those are in the shop right now for Fuel injector problems. All 3 the Dealership mechanics said it was contaminated fuel. So this must be they way that Dodge teaches they're mechanics.

Problem with the 'Front Suspension/Ball Joints 2004 Dodge Durango, mfg in Nov 2003: 9/28/07 My mechanic reported...Excessive freeplay in the lower ball joints and were replaced with new Chrysler/Dodge parts. at 60,577 miles. Five months later at 65,202 miles I started to experience the same problems again. Vibration can be felt in the steering and expecially in the floor board under the drivers feet. A metal on metal clunking sound starts after being driven for 1/2 hour and only occurs when the vehicle is moving. I had two shops look at it and they didn't hear the problem. Now at 65,738 miles the noise is loud and safety is a issue. Will I lose a tire or the ability to steer? The mechanic can now hear the problem, he thinks it may be the ball joints. How can these parts be bad less than a year and only 5000 miles later???

door handle on 2005 Dodge Durango broke off and was determined to be plastic. The door handle should have been made out of metal especially given that the door is heavy. We determined that the whole door panel has to be replaced because it is a one-piece part. The problem is that the door panel costs approximately $350 and the repairs approximately $150 bringing it to a total of approx. $500. We could not believe that the door handle would be made of such cheap material and were very suprised when we found out how much the repair would cost us. In addition, the skirt that goes around the seat is made of very cheap plastic and has gotten brittle and is falling apart. I bought a 1999 Dodge Durango in August of 2006 which I am still making payments on. I am a single mom and with my mother's help, I was able to purchase this by her borrowing money through her credit union and I am making the payments. We did it this way so I wouldn't have such a high interest. I had absolutely no warranty this way but I drove it away with it only having 59,000 miles. We thought this would be a very good vehicle for me and my daughter. Approximately 8 months after purchasing this Durango my transmission went out. I paid $1700.00 to have a rebuilt transmission put in. It was doing very good until a few months ago and now I am having problems with it stalling. Sometimes I get in it to go somewhere and it won't start. Sometimes it will start but then after I go somewhere and try to leave that place it won't start. On occasion it has died while running and I have had to push it out of the way. Once it died on me driving down the interstate and I lost all power.
At times if I would let it set for a length of time it would start back up or sometimes we disconnected the battery cable, waited about 15 minutes and connected it back up and it would start. This has been going on frequently since the middle of May. I have only driven it maybe 10 times since then. This is my transportation and I have been having to borrow other people's cars to get to work and back, etc. It was in one mechanic shop by my house for 1 week but they never could figure out what was wrong with it. It sat at a Chrysler Dealership in Norman, OK for 2 weeks and they never could figure out what was wrong with it. We finally took my battery out, had it tested, it tested with some bad cells, bought a $100.00 battery and I drove it for about 4 days. It was unbelievable that I didn't have any trouble then there I was again, broke down in a parking lot. This Durango has been setting for the past 4 days in the parking garage at my work because it wouldn't start after I got off of a 12 hour start and every time I go to try it, it will not start.
I have to have a running vehicle and nobody seems to know what to do to fix this one. I can go out and try to buy something else but then I am stuck with 2 car payments and 2 full coverage insurances. Why should I be paying on a car that won't even run for me? This is so very frustrating and I have googled so much information over the internet since May and so many people are having these problems. There should be something that we can do to get this settled. There are a lot of us hard working people that don't mind paying for our vehicles, we just need them to run for us. Apparently there is some problem with the Dodge Durango and maybe just some Dodge Products. I will never again buy a Dodge and I don't even want a Chrysler. I tell everyone about this problem and tell them they should never buy one. I can't tell you the headaches and frustrations I have had over this. Somebody please help us!!!

Dodge Durango Engine Failure My 1999 Dodge Durango 360 ci just rolled over 165,000 miles. No sludge problems. Why? Because I live in a rural area. The vehicle is never subjected to urban driving, hot weather idling, or heat soak conditions. Durango engines fail due to the location of the oil filter immediately adjacent to the right exhaust header/pipe flange. During driving, sufficient air flows over the filter to cool it. During idle and stop & go traffic the filter receives excessive heat and the oil cokes in the filter. This causes low oil pressure because the bypass valve is clogged, high engine load of particulates, thickened oil, and complete lack of oil filtration. The result is rapid sludge build up which accelerates quickly. Dodge refuses to recognize this problem due to the cost of liability and the ease of putting the problem back on owners by stating that sludge is caused by infrequent oil changes. Using synthetic oil helps but does not solve the problem in urban driving. Installing a remote oil filter completely solves the problem. Cost? ~$35 materials and $50 labor.

I spent 4800 for a motor, 1200 for the car rentals waiting 62 days for a motor to be installed, 230 for the a/c resister, and 130 for them to tell me that the things are not covered. But of course it's not covered because it's a resister that controls the blower motor. Every other component for the a/c is covered but that. I will never buy from Chrysler again.

I purchased a 2005 Dodge Durango in August of 2006. I purchased the vehicle for 26k plus financing. After just one year of having the vehicle, I took it to the dealership because my oil light kept coming on and no matter how many oil changes I had, it would not go off. Back in April of 2007, I took it back again and they told me that I had sludge in the oil pan and that they needed to either flush out the engine or do multiple oil changes. They insisted that I wasn't changing the oil frequently enough and that it was because I drove long distances to and from work. Just over one year later, I was on my way home with my kids and the oil light came on and the car began making louder thudding noises as I accelerated the gas. It was so loud that it drew attention...lucky for me I was pulling into my driveway. I turned the car off and contacted a mechanic who told me not to drive it and have it towed into the dealership as it sounded like it could be engine related. The very next day I had it towed to the dealership. It is now 3 weeks later and I still do not have my car back. I am being told once again that I was not changing my oil regularly enough, even though I provided them with receipts, and that my engine was full of sludge. Well since I had it at the dealership the year before, they were cooberating the same story and now I'm having challenges with the manufacturer covering the warranty. I have a 70k mile warranty on the transmission and a 100k mile warranty on the engine. The dealership gives me the impression the manufacturer would not be covering the warranty. Now here I am with a Durango that is only 2yrs old, a 711.00/month payment, and no means of transportation. It is costing me time and money at work which I can't afford to be the case. Everyone is pointing the finger at me cause I'm a single mom and not mechanically inclined. This doesn't mean I can't have my oil changed. The misfortune is that I had it changed at various 10min quicklube stations, had it changed by certified mechanics at my home, and had it changed by the dealership. It took a lot of legwork just to get the six months of oil changes they requested. I need to act fast and am hoping someone can give me some advice as to what to do next.

I own (hopefully not for long) a 2007 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab. I have had nothing but problems with it from the day I bought it. The main problem now is the transmission. It will lock up in 1st gear when you first start out. The only way you can get it to shift out is to stop and shut it off and re-start it. I have took it to the dealer who said unless it is doing it when I bring it in they can not do anything because it does not bring up a code to look at. Well we have taken it back 4 times now while it is locked up (driving about 25 miles in first gear) andy they still have not fixed it. They have replaced a torque converter, re-programmed the computer, replaced a control box under the hood, and now want to (I laughed so hard at this one) replace the ignition switch!!! Well I'm done with it. I have filed with Chrysler to buy it back (I am not holding my breath). Moral of the story is DON'T BUY CHRYSLER !!!!! I never will ever again even if they are giving them away. The sad thing is that I had a 2005 Dodge Durango before this with alot of problems. Bite me once shame on you, bite me twice shame on me!!

The Service Manager stated that sludge clogged a screen that filters the oil to the top of the engine which lead to engine failure. I was accused of not changing the oil in the vehicle which is not true. When the dealer sent the information to the warranty company, they denied to pay for repair's and all made me pay to evaluate the vihicle. This truck has 65K miles on it and should be dependable. I contacted Chrysler in regards to this problem with the engine and the warranty that I paid for and I was informed that they can do nothing for me and referred me to their now product division that only mail's out brochures for new products. The dealer want's $8,000.00 to repair my vehicle. I contacted the dealership I purchased it from due to the fact my windshield wipers were sometimes working and sometimes not. They told me to take it to my local Chrysler dealer and the problems should be fixed.
My local dealer called me and told me the wiper issued would be covered under warranty, but not the seat-belts. I then recalled the dealer of purchase and he told me to take it to this other Chrysler dealer in my area, so I did, and he also says it is not covered by warranty, but says it was not done on purpose. At that dealership, we looked at the 3rd row seat-belts and they too are frayed. The dealership of purchase, Wholesale Outlet Automotive Group, is trying very hard to help me, but has been told that this will not be covered under a warranty issue.
My words is "crap". There is something definitely wrong with your product if the seat-belts in a 2007 vehicle only lasts this length of time. I have no intention of paying for this and I have contacted the consumer action group in my area. This is a Chrysler defect in the mechanism in the vehicle and I want it fixed by a local dealer. There has been no doubt in the 3 people that have looked at it that it is a defect and really thought it would be covered. The regional district manager said "No." What's up with this? I expect a reply within 24 hours.

The dealers have tried and can't find what is wrong with it. This is a over 6000 pound truck, I understand there are no recalls on this problem for either of these trucks. Here in FL where severe storms can pop up at any second, having the wipers just stop completely is very dangerous, just ask me and my boss. I contacted Chrysler who informed me of no recall on these trucks and being out of warranty there is nothing they can do. He the upper level service person told me A. Don't drive in the rain. B. I was angry because he didn't say what I wanted to hear. C. If I didn't like their dealer service, I could go some where else, oh, really, like Ford perhaps. I mentioned to him their dealers are the trained experts!!! I explained to him these trucks need repairing and I would be more than happy to pay for the repair, but no one can figure it out. He said I could start replacing parts at my cost of thousands of dollars til the bad part was replaced. I don't think so. I know you know what a runaway truck with no wipers could do to me or anyone in the way. He repeated refused my requests to go higher up and have Chrysler investigate what the problem is so at least I could pay to have it fixed!!! Apparently there is an issue with the wipers on many of their vehicles and I'm guessing not enough people have been injured or died for them to issue an investigation or a recall. Seems to me that Chrysler purchases these wiper motors and components by the millions and millions and uses them in all kinds of their vehicles. I'll bet the same wipers are in my truck and my bosses. My question to you is what is my recourse, what can I do? I can't even find a address to send them a registered letter to lodge a complaint! Can you give me any help or a push in the right direction? As it is, the wipers fail when they feel like it and it will only be driven in the non-rainy season which has started in FL and won't end until November. I have a Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel. The truck is by all accounts a good vehicle. I started having problems with the engine blowing oil under a load. I took the vehicle to Larry Miller Dodge in Peoria Az and asked them to find the problem. The symptoms were: The vehicle while under a load had lost 2 quarts of oil within a four hundred mile trip. The oil had shot out from under the vehicle through a overflow tube. Oil smoke had also become very obvious and was being sucked into the vent system via the air conditioning/heater fan.Larry Miller had checked out the vehicle and said this was normal. The vehicle at this time had approximately 85000 miles and was still under warranty. After multiple attempts to fix the problem they finally installed a reclamation bottle on the overflow tube. This bottle will hold approx. eight to ten ounces of liquid. the service advisor had told me if it gets full then I needed to crawl under the truck and empty the oil back into the vehicle. This was the end of the repair as far as they were concerned and It was normal and no other problems were found. I was not happy with this and the truck was still sending smoke into the cab of the truck. I was sure this was not normal as it hadn't been happening prior to the loss of the two quarts of oil. I took the truck to Avondale Dodge and explained the problem again. This time they looked at it and had come to the conclusion that it had broken pistons and bad injectors. They did the repair and when I took the truck home it was just as bad as before. The amount of smoke coming from the engine, dip stick and overflow tube resembled a steam engine. I still have smoke coming into the cab of the truck and can not run the a/c when stopped because it enters the cab through the air vents. After multiple attempts to get them to fix the problem they tell me that it is normal and that is how it is supposed to be. I have had many vehicles and have never had smoke come into the cab and be normal.

I paid $140.00 under Invoice 68177 on May 1, 2008 for Replace Brake Pads (Front Disc) and Pad Kit-Front Disc Brake. On May 11, 2008, only 10 days later and less than 800 miles later, on my way to Columbus, Georgia (approximately 90 miles) my brakes locked up as I almost hit another vehicle. Smoke billowed from both sides of the vehicle. At this point, my vehicle could not be driven. I had the Durango towed back to Dothan Chrysler Dodge. I now have a towing bill for $350.00.
The next day May 12, 2008, I talked with the service advisor Anthony Snell and advised what had happened. After checking the vehicle, he advised me that there was a pre-existing condition of rust in the calipers that caused the brakes to lock up and the charge to fix the vehicle would be $740.00. He advised that when they deconpressed the calipers to put on the new paids, it knocked the rust loose and that is what caused the brakes to lock up. I then talked to the service manager (I do not know his name)and he told me the same situation as Anthony Snell did and he advised the amount we paid originally of $140.00 would be deducted from the $740.00 which left $600.00. I then asked to talk to the general manager and was advised he was not there but would be at their Enterprise, AL store the next day. The next day, May 12, 2008, I called the general manager, Mr. Matt Melonowski (I don't know if I have spelled his last name correctly) and discussed all of the above. He told me he would check into it and call me back. He returned my call that same day and advised that they would repair our vehicle for $400.00 but they would not deduct the original $140.00 paid. Since I needed my vehicle I paid the $400.00. Invoice 68370 states: Replace Both Front Brake Calipers, Both Front Brake Lines, both Front Rotors. I agree that I owed the $140.00, but not the $400.00 because when I originally took my vehicle in I did not have a problem with the brakes locking up.

There are two universal joints there that seem to have grease issues. When they're greased the steering is beautiful, the second the grease becomes dirty or dry it feels like your power steering isn't working. It's EXTREMELY dangerous as it sneaks up on you and one day you find you have to forcefully two-hand the steering wheel just to make corners. We have a 2001 Dodge Durango SLT that we purchaesd new 2000. We did not purchase the extended warranty. We absolutly love this car. It has had it's problems - mostly minor.(heated seats stopped working, pwer windows broke, power steering pump leaks). The with about 30,000 on the car we brought it in for new tires and were told the front bearings were out and needed to be replaced. I couldn't belive this could happen with only 30,000 miles (and they agreed) so they showed me that one of the front tires moved side to side about an inch! This cost about $700 to fix. I wrote this off as bad luck and went on. In late summer of 2006 my wife and kids went on trip from Austin to Sacramento. While driving through Arizona the oil pressure dropped to zero. They immediatly pulled over and called me. I had them start the car to decribe exactley what was happening and was told the pressure was fine now. A few hours later I got another call and was told the pressure dropped to the lowest part of the normal range and was staying there. I told them to keep a close eye on it and find a service place to have it looked at. The only place they found was a Wal-Mart service center who were happy to look at this for them. At this time the pressure was back to the middle of the normal range and everything looked fine. (thank you Wal-Mart, this was done at no charge and they were very curtious to my wife and kids). Before they left on this trip I took the car to Jiffy Lube and had the oil changed. They told me that there was a lot of sludge built up in the engine and recommended an engine flush and fuel injector cleaning. I agreed to this and they did the work. They made it California only to have the pressure start acting up again. They told me that the car was running fine and was not making any noises that weren't normal. There is absolutely nothing out on this part of the highway so I told them to keep on going but if the pressure dropped to zero for more than a couple of seconds or if they heard any noises to pull and shut off the engine. They made it to Anahiem and noises started so they pulled over. They were only a couple of miles from the hotel we booked at Disneyland and there was a Dodge dealer close. We had the car towed there. They said the engine was blown - deffinatly a thrown rod and probably a cracked block. $6500. I call Doge's main office to find out how this could happen to a car with around 50,000 miles and would it be covered under any kind of warranty. I did admit to them that I am not the most concientious when it comes to oil changes - sometimes going 10,000 between. I was told this way to premature for the engine to go out anyway and they would call the dealer and see what needed to be done and also that they would be able to cover at least some, if not all the cost. The next day we find out that because of the sludge build up that they would not be able to cover any of the cost. I was not a happy camper at this point and told them I was going to have the car towed to another repair place since I just had the engine flushed and there couldn't be any build up. A little later I got another call and they told me that the flush I had done was not completley remove and the remaining sludge plogged the pick up screen. But the good news (in their minds) was that the damage was not as bad as they originaly thought and I just needed a oil pump, pick up tube and screen, and a new timing belt and gears. There went a few thousand. This also cut the day that was planned for Disneyland out and my kids cried for days. We had to rent a car to continue thier trip. $500. They returned to L.A. a week later on the day the car was supposed to be ready and it wasn't. They were already tight on the time to return for the kids to return to school so this wasn't acceptable. After being told it would be at least a couple more days I started to get a little upset. When I spoke with one of the managers and told them what I thought about this over run all of sudden they would be able to have the car ready that night. I went the last 2 years hating Jiffy Lube for what they cost me. Until today. I want to appolagize to the Jiffy Lube Corpation for all that I have thought about them. 2 weeks ago I was going to drive my oldest daughter to Bryan/College Station to look at prospective housing for college. We decided to take the Durango. As we left the oil pressure dropped to zero! Less than 20,000 miles since Dodge worked on it. The gauge was acting really strange locking at the lowest end of the normal range then dropping to zero and back to the lowest point again. HMMMM this sounded very familiar. The car never made a single noise in the mile I had to go to get it back home. The whole time I was driving I was listening for the lifters to start knocking (the first mechanical sign of a loss of oil pressure) This never happened. I parked it and took my truck. When I returned home from our trip I figure it had to be either wiring, the gauge, or the sending unit because of how it was acting. I tested the gauge and wiring and they were fine so I bought a sending unit. (thanks Dodge for the placement and requirement of a special socket). I put this on and the pressure was perfect. It was on the high side of normal and it moved with the RPMs. When I did all this I also changed the oil and filter. I had learned my lesson about not changing the oil often so it had been done at least 4 time prior to this. It looked good and didn't smell burnt, but I still did it. Problem fixed. NOT. My daughter wrecked her car last week and needed to borough the Durango from my wife. On the way back from an off campus class the oil pressure dropped to zero. She was with me when it happened the last time so she thought it was okay to drive it not knowing that I was listening for signs of engine failure. She returned to school and called me to tell me what had happened. When I asked if was making any noises she said that it was and it was loud. When I got there it started and had no pressure so I emmidiatley shut it off. I resarted it and the pressure returned to the lowest part of the normal range. As soon as I rev it here comes the kcocking. Unfortunatly this is not a lifter now - it is a rod and now I'm out an engine. That's twice on a car that now has 72,000 miles. I had a Chevy truck that I traded in with over 250,000 miles that ran great. I only changed the oil around 25,000 miles - no sooner and it still ran good. This sludge problem Dodge has needs to be addressed by the Government and they need to pay the consumers back for all the money and stress they have caused us. They may be a major corparation but that doesn't give them the right to rip of consumers and our elected officials need to step in! Tom

My 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 truck dashboard starting cracking recently. I thought.. ok.. it happens.. but then I started reading on the internet that this is NOT an isolated incident. Thousands of people who have 2000-2002 Dodge Ram trucks seem to have faulty dashboards. They start by cracks.. then just start splintering uncontrollably all over the dashboard, INCLUDING over the air bag!! A local news station in Orlando, FL. has already done a report on these faulty dashboards in which Dodge Inc. of course says this is not a safety issue and will do nothing to resolve the problem! I think that when large chunks of your dashboard start FALLING OFF it is a safety issue!!! It is all over the internet.. pictures and statements. I think you guys need to bring this issue to the limelight to make Dodge Inc. make good for their consumers and get this problem corrected! It is obviously a manufacturing defect and these dashboards should NOT be our responsibility to fix... especially with prices running around $1,400 to get this problem corrected. Your investigation into this matter would be greatly appreciated by me and all of the Dodge truck owners who are seemingly getting screwed over by this situation. Thanks!

A few months ago I noticed that my 95 Dodge Dakota 6 cyl quad cab truck was starting to lose power upon normal accelleration, and also when slowing down. But it would never die. Matter of fdact, I was going up a small hill on my way to work and the speedomoter went to 30mph from 50 and I was still pushing down the gas pedal, and the rpms went up?? Usually getting on and off the highway was when it was most obvious. It would also shake. Over the next couple of months it happened more often and shook harder. Felt like the enigine was falling out. The steering wheel did not shake. SO I was not thinking tires, wheels or anything of that sort. Well, as time went on, it got so bad I took it to the dealer( this is a lease truck of which, I have been the only driver and have had no prior problems with it) got all of the proper oil changes as directed at the dealers, and other maint as needed. I took it to the dealers, explained what was happening, how and when and how often, and what my mechanic thought it was. The torque converter.Or my transmission. So they kept it for 3 days, drove it, said they could find no codes, which I told them it was not pulling any, and changed the plugs, air filter, did a fule system flush and did 3 tests on it. So, $500 later I pick it up and it started shaking on the way home. I called them and made an appt to bring it back in the next week, told them the same things again, and that it was even worse than before. They drove it-no problems found the 6cyl engine has a bit if a shake to it anyway. Took it home again, and almost didn't make it, same things going on, but actually got a little better gas mileage, but still shaking. Now the 4th time it's there they drive it and can find no problem. I take the Asst Service Mgr for an hour ride- in which he felt the shaking and saw the rpm and speedomoter thing going on, but said he didn't really think it was the torque converter or transmission. OH My God!!! But maybe it's the front end, tires, bearings, or something in the suspension. They check it out and said all 4 tires were out of balance. Knowing this still wasn't going to fix it, I asked Jason to drive it home for the evening. He did and ah ha, there is still a bit of pausing, shaking, when the torque converter is doing what he says it is supposed to do, but funny this only started it a few months ago. I have put 47000 miles on this truck myself and know it's feel like the back of my hand!! So he is telling me there is shaking, and it is the torque converter, but it doesn't need repar or replacement, and he's sorry that that wasn't what I wanted to hear! So I thoroughly agree with the guy from GA about his and they do know it is an issue and it needs to be recalled. Before someone gets rearended on the highway because it drops in speed due this possibly dangerous situation. Hopefully another dealer can give me better info! Will let you know!

My wife and I purchased a 2004 Dodge Durango on February 26, 2007. On the night of March 4th we were on our way to church when my kids smelled smoke and the interior lights in the vehicle wouldnt go off even with the keys out off the vehicle the lights remained on. The vehicle had some kind of electrical burn odor to it, so we quickly got out of the vehicle. The next morning I called the dealership to let them know what was going on. They recommend us to take it to a dodge dealership in our hometown for they can check out the problem. We called to make an appointment with the dealership -our appointment was set for Tuesday, March 6th. The next day I got into the vehicle to see if the lights were still on and to see if the odor was still in the vehicle, I put the key in the ignition and switched it to the on position (the vehicle was not started) when all of a sudden the wipers came on I tried to turn them off, but they wouldnt go off.
The vehicle started smoking under the dashboard near the steering wheel and broke out into a fire inside of our garage attached to our new house. I was terrified! I called the fire department, grabbed the fire extinguisher to put the fire out. The fire department came and got the vehicle out of the garage and put out the remaining of the fire. The dealership came to our house to pick up the vehicle on that same day. The next day a recall was put out on the2004 Dodge Durango. We heard nothing from the dealership about the vehicle for about three weeks.
They finally called to tell us that the vehicle was totaled. The next day we had to go to the dealership to sign forms. We were told that everything was going to be ok and that they was going to take care of every thing with DaimlerChrysler and with the auto finance company. Well to make a long story short we were harassed by the Auto Finance Company for payments. We continue to call the dealership but they ignored our calls. Someone finally called us from DaimlerChrysler. They told us that they had a settlement offer for the vehicle in the amount of $10,725.00. We turned down the offer because we purchased the vehicle for 18,639.34. We finally got in contact with Hubler Nissan who told us to accept the offer and our GAP insurance would cover the remaining portion.
So we did just that. After about a nine-month period DaimlerChrysler finally paid the Auto Finance Company. We sent a copy of the settlement check alone with other paperwork to our GAP Insurance who refuses to pay anything because they think DaimlerChrysler should pay more. What should we do? We are left with a truck payment and a messed up credit report!!!!!!! WE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR A WEEK AND IT CAUGHT ON FIRE!

My truck is a 2002 dodge Ram 2500 4x4, with the V10 engine, and 20k miles and still in its 7/70 power train warranty. While driving down the road the number 8 spark plug broke off and engine compression blew out the center ceramic stuff of the plug. Well you can imagine the noise. I had it towed to a dealer close by. While at the dealer, I ask them to go ahead and replace all the plugs and plug wires. They were able to remove the the threads of the broken plug from the head with an easy out and I have that piece. They were unwilling to remove the remaining 9 plugs, but did however install the new plug wires. Total bill including tow in was 322 dollars. I call Chrysler Customer Service and all the first girl would say is that they dont warrant spark plugs. So I fire off an email, and I get ref number. I get past the first tier and am forwarded to Customer Service Rep whose name is Matt. We discuss this issue. We both had complete understanding, and his final words were that if the heads had to be removed, this would be covered by the 7/70 power train. So I take the truck to my local dodge dealer. And ask them to install my plugs. Just had 9 to do as #8 had already been replaced. I had purchased champion truck plugs and put anti seize on the threads. No problem, the adviser says. Then I get a call from the adviser and he says they got one plug out (#10) and could not get the rest out because they were rusted in so badly. I explained to him that I had talked to Matt at the Chrysler Customer service center and he had indicated that if the heads had to be removed that this would in deed be covered by the 7/70. Well the adviser calls the Chrysler Customer Service Center and he is told that this will Not be covered because it is a rust and corrosion issue, its obvious that this truck sits a lot since its an 02 with only 20k miles (i dont see an issue there). So I paid 85 dollars and took my truck home. The first tune up interval is 30k miles and this would be the first spark plug replacement also. I was surprised to learn that a plug breaking off on its own was not covered as part of the power train. And also the cast head that has so permanently adhered itself to the factory plugs that a dealer is weary of the plugs breaking into the head, making head removal necessary, appears to have no coverage either. The plug piece that was retrieved from the head shows serious thread damage. The threads are screwed into the head and are not exposed. The problem is head related. Not corrosion or environmental or rust which is what is being the escape goat. In conclusion, all I want are new plugs in my truck. I want it to be covered by the 7/70 warranty. Head removal to replace spark plugs on a truck with 20k miles at HUGE EXPENSE is totally unacceptable. Please help..

I owned my 2000 Dodge Durango since March of 06. I had no major problems with it up until recently. About 4 days before Christmas, I was driving down the highway when suddenly I saw the Check Guages light illuminate, followed by a grinding sound coming from the engine. The oil pressure dropped to zero, and before I could even make it safely off of the highway, I heard a bang followed by clouds of white smoke going everywhere. My Durango was dead. Upon being towed to the local garage, I was told that I had siezed my engine. My oil pump burst and I needed a new engine. They asked me if I had regular oil changes and all those suspicious questions like it was my fault. I was on point and on time with my oil changes, even bringing up the fact that I had my oil changed professionally 5 days before the incident.

Had to have it rebuilt I opted as a 5.9L (about $3500), thats when the transmission started getting screwy. Then the U-Joint ($400 to replace) then I found out about the ball-joint recall on the 2000 and up Durangos. Chrysler/Dodge is fully aware that the 98 and 99 Durangos use the same freaking ball joints as the ones recalled. They were recalled because the front wheels were falling off. Was only able to afford to get the lower ones replaced ($1200). Brakes and rotors are horrible try getting from downtown Indy to greenwood with no brakes... The engine started overheating and the cylinder heads blew ($1295 (after discount)), Now fot the 2nd time in less than a year the transmission needs to be fully rebuilt ($3200 the first time), I dont have enough to fix it a 2nd time. I have a 2002 Dodge Dakota Quabcab 4x2. I recently took it into the shop due to rough idling and noisy brakes. After looking at my brakes, the mechanic was lowering my truck back to the ground and noticed my front tire wabbled. He began looking at it and found he could move my front tires back and forth with his hand. He said that the upper ball joints were bad and needed to be replaced as well as several other things. He stated that this was critical due to their condition. I have since learned there was a recall on the 2002 Dakotas for the upper ball joints, but that it was specific to 4x4 models. Since my 2002 Dakota has the same problem, is this not something that should/could be covered under the recall? Fortunately, I did not have an accident, but the mechanic said it was a matter of time because they were rusted and breaking.

At one point I let the shop keep it for almost a week, because they couldn't find or fix the problem and the stalling was becoming dangerous, It stalled on my wife (who was pregnant) and she had my sister and her three kids with them. At slow speeds the truck was very hard to steer and it sent them up the wrong way in traffic because my wife couldn't turn it nor did she have power brakes with it stalled. I took it to the shop then and they couldn't see anything wrong with it. It finally stalled on me a few weeks later and set a code to turn on the check engine light and I went straight to the dealer to get the code read in case it disappeared and they told me they would order the part and it would be in the following week. The next week on July 26th 2006, before the part was in I was driving and the truck stalled on me in the middle of a turn on a very large hill and I wrecked it. We purchased a used 2001 Dodge Durango on July 6, 2007. We had no problems until late Sept, 2007, when the heater core started leaking antifreeze. We didn't have the money to replace it at the time, so we watched and kept antifreeze in the radiator.
On Oct. 5, my husband was driving the car when it started smoking. He's not a mechanic, but thought it was probably the heater core and the head gasket, assuming that the heater core had clogged up. He contacted the dealership and returned the car to them about a week and half later. They finally returned his calls and said that the cylinders were scored and it needed an entire new engine, at a cost of $7,900.
He found a reconditioned motor for $850, so told the dealership we would take it back. The mechanic said he would box up all of the parts he had removed, since there was no need for him to replace them and then my husband remove them all again. When my husband picked up the car, only the heads on the passenger side had been removed and boxed up.
He tried to find out exactly what they had looked at, but the mechanic he had been dealing with left and now won't return his calls. We're not even sure they examined the cylinders on the driver's side, and so far have not been able to find any markings in the cylinders on the other side. Now we are trying to find someone that we can trust to look at it to see if the cylinders are really scored or if it is just going to be a few smaller parts, but either way it's going to cost at least $400, if not into the thousands to repair.

1998 Dodge Ram with transmission problems from day one. We bought this vehicle used with close to 40,000 miles on it. Transmission started clunking even then. Within the first year we had to have the dealer do repairs to it. Several yrs. later we took it for transmission maintenance again to the dealer. Within the last month and total of 92,000 miles the transmission had to be totally replaced by a transmission shop....no dealer.
Dealer quoted $3,000 and when we went in it had gone to $4,000. Huh? The transmission completely froze up and everything melted as there was no fluid getting into it for some reason. I feel this transmission was inferior from day one because of our experience with the sounds coming out of it and it would never pull. Chrysler assumes no responsibility here because we didn't have it into the dealer every year for maintenance.
Can't afford that with today's costs. Told me the truck was not maintained. Just because it didn't go to their shop does not mean it wasn't maintained. We take care of our vehicles and they have regular maintenance by us. The new transmission is silent. Truck gets better mileage and I am willing to bet that if we went to tow something it would tow it nicely.
Chrysler is responsible for equipping this truck with a piece of junk and not standing behind it. Yes, it is out of warranty but it was out of warranty the first time too. Lousy warranty at 36,000 miles or 3 yrs. Is that a warranty. They need to stand behind their products and own up to the fact that they had a transmission problem with this year vehicle.

'99 Dodge Durango at 57,000mi began having chronic stalling out problems in spring of '07. The stalling occurs in the middle of traffic especially after idling at stop light & turning left (so that car blocks intersection) but has even happened while car is going 45 miles an hour. NO BUS appears on mileage, everything shuts off and it takes 20-30 minutes of sitting (whereever it stalls out) before car can be re-started &moved.
Happens on days when the enviromental temperature exceeds 75 degrees. No diagnostic code appears when put the care is put on the computer and I was advised that problem had to get worse and produce a code before dealership or anyone else could diagnose the problem. Problem is powertrain control module (PCM)is malfunctioning. This major component is covered thru 8yrs/80,000 mi by federal law but because this problem was not diagnosed until after my 8 yrs had been exceeded, it is now my $800-$1200 bill to pay (this after just paying for a headgasket for my Durango due to misdiagnosis by Neptune NJ's Sansone Rt 66 Dodge service who when the engine light repeated came on did not repair the intake manifold pan seal also known to be a problem with Durangos). I am still UNDER the 80,000 mi federal warranty mi which covers the CPM but because it's beyond 8 yrs from the date of delivery of the car, the $800-$1200 cost to replace the CPM is now completely mine... Per the internet MANY '99 Durango owners are having this problem but it's only diagnosed once their 8yr/80,000mi has expired. Dodge at the very least should put out a TSB on this problem and the federal government should make Daimler Chrysler honor the PCM warranty per the car's mileage (8 yr time should not apply)... how does a PCM/major component go in a vehicle with less then 60,000mi? ... how do MULTIPLY '99 Dodge Durango owners have the same problem and the dealerships can't diagnose the problem(until the federal warranty expires) nor are there any TSBs issued? The reason is that it's not to Diamler Chrysler's benefit to diagnose this CPM problem in a timely fashion - because the longer the dealerships take to diagnose the CPM problem, the more likely the customer foots the bill because the 8 yrs that applies to the federal warranty on CPM will expire.
I contacted Diamler Chrysler and was advised by phone that there was nothing they could do since the 8 yr/80k mi is is a federal warranty & I also submitted an email to them &they responded that the vehicle in question has exceeded the time or mileage limitations of the manufacturer's warranty at the time the expense was incurred so there was nothing they could do. What good are these federal warranties if Diamler Chrysler is able to find a &continually utilize a loop hole (don't diagnose the problem until 8 yrs has expired)?

I have had the car for 3 months and have put 4100 miles on the car (both city and highway) and i average between 9-11 miles to the gallon. I have called the Dodge dealer and they said that theirs were estimates and that mileage may vary depending on driving conditons. I can understand a 10-15% TOPS variance from advertised mileage but mine is RIDICULOUSLY low and completely unacceptable.

Break pads, disc break-Both sides Rear replace due right rear axle seal leaking contaminated pads, Rotor has fluid burned into the surface. Replaced Right axle seal and brakes. Also had to replace Watts Link sway bar, replaced bell crank and links. Repalced both rear stabilizer bars again.

6th TIME - NOW AFTER RESEARCHING THIS VEHILCE, WE FOUND OUT, EARNHARDTS DODGE/HYUNDAI IN GILBERT ARIZONA (Same placed we purchased it at) January 17,2006) (Now 6 Repairs) NOTICED THE DURANGO HAD REAR DIFFERTIAL LEAKS, THEY REPLACED SEAL, DRIVE PINION OIL AND ALL THER PARTS - THEN RETURNED THE VHEICLE TO STOCK WHEN IT WAS FINISHED AT 16,614 MILES! JUST 48 MILES BEFORE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE!!
6 Times this Durango has had the same issue, Chrysler/Dodge says: Not our problem, so sad for you.... Claim Denied. I tried to get them to at least pay for half of the repair bill. Earnhardt Dodge says: (After buying two cars from them) That is too bad, not our problem, would you like to trade it in? Gee, wouldn't that be nice! We owe too much on it! I was told they on 7/20/07 they would work on this situation to see if they could come up with a solution (Just to get me out of their showroom) any way, July 23rd.NO RETURN CALLS OR SOLUTION FROM EARNHARDTS. My 2005 dodge ram 1500 was serviced on June 13th for what I was told was to replace a sensor. I was given a rental car for $20.00/day. the truck was repaired after I and my mother constantly called to find out what was taking so long. I picked up the truck on june 18th. The paperwork for repairs indicates:vbody pkg, fluid atf, 4 x 2 filt trans, filterpkg trans, sealer rtv. Nowhere is it indicated that my truck was fitted with a rebuilt transmission nor was I told until taking my truck back to the dealership on Monday, July 2nd for what appears to be another transmission problem. (That's what they are saying) First and foremost, I feel that I should have been told that my truck had a rebuilt transmission; which was not done.
Secondly I feel that I should be given a loaner vehicle to drive since this is a repeat problem. This truck has only 21,000 miles on it. At this point I feel it is a lemon. The female in the service department, Melissa was rude when talking to me and my mother. I did not appreciate her tone and attitude at all. Overall, I feel that this truck should be given back to the dealer and I should be entitled to another truck of the same value as when I purchased my new 2005 Dodge Ram, with no increase in my payments, which I have been making on time. I work two jobs and require transportation daily. It is very inconvenient to have to get a ride to work when this dealership could have given me a loaner until my truck was repaired. I will neverf buy another chrysler/dodge product and plan on sharing this information with as many people as I can including the media.

We made it to the bottom and pulled over to see what happen. The drive belt had come off all the pulleys, wich left me with no power what so ever.We were all shaken up. I had to be towed to a station. The owner told me this happens with this model van, mostly in rain. the belt gets wet and comes off.I spent over $200.00 on the tow and repair.
The mecanic told me Chrysler knows of this problem, and the have made a guard to keep this from happening,I found this out at my home station. I sent mail to Dodge and Chrysler and they tell me it is past warranty, well I knew that but I wanted them to make a recall on this problem, but they ignored me.If this is not recalled someone will die as you cannot control the van.Thank you Randolph Baldwin

We have the same symptoms as everyone else. sludge build up on oil cap, low oil pressure, noise in the top of the engine. have not been to the dealer yet. (as of 6-28-07). Problem started in March of this year. When I called the dealer today was told that no TSB's or recalls have been issued for this problem. I have recently experienced the same problem with my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L truck engine as many other consumers. Approximately 3 weeks ago I was on my way camping for the week end. Everything was fine until approximately 14 miles away from the campground my check guages idiot light came on, my truck alarm dang (like the seat belt does) and noted my oil pressure gauge was reading 0. I immediately pulled my truck over.
To make the story shorter, toed my vehicle the following week to a recommended mechanic in the area that I was at. He states that my engine has seized and needs to be replaced. I called Dodge Customer service for assistance. I found that my vehicle is 2,483 miles out of warranty (current reading is 72,483). They sounded so nice the first time as if they were going to help and this was a known problem all I had to do was to fax them in my maintenance records, which I did. I told them I would have it towed to a Dodge dealer for the repairs but needed something in writing that they were going to cover or help with the expenses. Taking it to a dealer would be more costly.
Then the claim person for whom I talked to would not take my calls for the next week, she finally called back approx. 1 week ago today with this response: we are not obligated to assist or participate in the repairs of your vehicle. So now I have to eat the repair costs myself. After long research and finding that a lot of consumers have had the same problem, even having to pay for the new engine when their vehicle is still under warranty, I called Dodge Customer service back today, I got the same response as others. Jeff stated that we have already ruled on your vehicle and there was really nothing he could do and would not forward me to anybody else to talk to. Abruptly ended our telephone call..but did say have a nice day. What customer service. I even stated to him and the others that this vehicle is leased, I have been a faithful customer for years with multiple vehicles being purchased...none of which got me a dime. My reference number with Dodge Customer service is: 16390075.
Oh and one more thing, I have NEVER received any official notice of recall actions for my truck...guess I fell out of the computer system. I have found some listed on other sites. So here I am, my truck is sitting out in rural Pennsylvania no repairs as of yet. I am probably going to have to have this mechanic I don't even know repair the vehicle as it will be cheaper in the long run. Could you tell me if there is anything that can be done? Is there a class action suit against Daimler Chrysler for this?

They took digital photos of the damaged rims and assured me that there was a problem with the wheels. They then forwarded the photos and other information to Daimler/Chrysler.
Daimler/Chrysler responded the following day saying that the damage to the wheels was my fault and there was no warranty claim available to me. I contact Dodge Customer Service and proceeded to argue with a woman and her supervisor for nearly an hour and they refused to allow me to speak with anyone in the department that made the decision regarding my case. They simply told me that there was nothing that they would do for me. I contacted the actual dealership where I purchased the vehicle and they would see what the could do by calling the Regional Service Manager.
The Service Mangager and Assistant Service Manager both agreed that there was an issue with my wheels. They proceeded to contact the Regional Service Manager and I waited for over two months, having heard nothing from them, and then called the General Manager of Dodge sales at the dealership. He again contacted the Regional Service Manager.
This Regional Service Manager contacted me a couple of days later and basically told me that there was nothing he could do regarding the decision that Daimpler/Chrysler had made. It appears that Dodge has a Digital Image System and that once the photos are submitted, a group of people judge the photos and the damage and render a decision without anyone looking at the vehicle in person.
I have seen the photos and it is impossible to determine what is happening with the wheels based on the digital photos that were sent in. The Regional Service Manager told me that there wasn't anything that he could do for me as the decision had been made and cannot be overturned. I have since recontacted the Dealership and am awaiting their response to my complaint.
I will be putting the words BUY CHEVROLET on the back of my Dodge Truck and I will never purchase another Daimler/Chrysler or Dodge product as long as I am alive. Described to Raul that the A/C is not blowing cold. 8:43 I was told by Raul that they found no problem. I drove the vehicle 20 miles and the A/C was not blowing cold. I drove it back and told Raul. This was at 10:21. At 11:09 Raul told me that the tech found air and moisture in system and performed system evacuate and recharged. The technician stated on the repair order that he road tested the truck. I took the vehicle out of the dealership and within five miles the A/C was blowing hot air. I called Chrysler and told them of the problem and my experience with the dealership. Raul explains that he has to order the compressor and he will call me when it gets in. 5/8 Raul calls me and says the A/C compressor is in and I told Raul that I would be in the next day to have the dealership install it. 5/9 7:11 I delivered my truck to the dealership. They installed the A/C compressor and orfice tube. At 11:09 Raul told me that my truck was done. I signed the no charge work order and notice at the bottom of the work order the technician puts in comments stating: Calling star to order sop TIPM. Issues with TIPM short. Also, their were computer codes PO685,PO627,PO645 calling star to order SOP TIPM. I took the work order to Raul and showed the comments of the technician. He stated that he would check with the technician.
Raul came back and sort of explained the issue with my truck. Raul also stated that the technician was waiting approval from STAR to order the SOP TIPM! I then asked Raul to please let me talk to the service manager. The service manager only introducing himself as Jim came and stated he had talked to the technician and got the approval to order the part! Jim the service manager told me this happens and they will eventually fix the truck! Not very reassuring! So now I am wait for Raul to call me when the part gets in and I will have to go through the same thing again not knowing what the outcome will bring. I need some help here. I bought a new Dodge Durango 2000 and I have had a lot of problems with it. I also bought a black front end cover (Bra) at the dealership in Hampton where I purchased the truck. I was unable to put it on the truck so the mechanics at the dealership put it on for me, it took them three hours.
A year later I noticed that the paint under the cover had rubbed off to the bare grey metal in certain spots. I took the truck back to the dealership and it was discovered that the clearcoat which goes over the paint is to thin on the 2000 model for this cover. I was supposed to take the cover off everytime it rained, (remember it took THEM 3 hours to put it on), plus I had a Nissan Pathfinder for 11 years and never took the cover off and the paint was fine.
I raised hell and the endresult was that Chrysler paid 75 % and the dealership paid the rest to put a brand new paintjob on the front of my truck. They still sell this cover to this day for the 2000 model even though it will ruin the paint. I had to get my airconditioner fixed $ 900, just replaced my waterpump, my blinkers had stopped working so I went to the dealership and purchased e new relay only to discover a few weeks later that they stopped working again. To find out the dealer had sold me the wrong relay, never got my money back.
I had my driver side ball joint replaced by the dealer due to recall and got the lower balljoint replaced at another place, I paid the extra money and got the lower balljoint with the grease fitting, so I can at least grease the lower one. My passenger side has just started to make noise and I will call dealer tomorrow to get that upper balljoint replaced. I am so embarressed to drive around because my truck sound so bad.I just ordered 4 new tires, I have 81000 miles on it and these will be my 4th new tires.
So I get about 20,000 miles out of a set of tires which is crazy. I just replaced the brakes and rotors on the front for the second time. My check engine light came on last year and I was told by the dealer I had to replace the transmission. My truck was running fine so I took it ti a friend who ownes a garage. He hooked a machine on it and reset my computer, he said I had some dirt on a sensor. My truck still runs o.k., I wonder how many people get a new transmission when they don't need one.

I purchased a brand new 2007 Dodge Durango on March 2007. Actually it was my birthday present. After driving for 2 weeks I noticed that when I would drive between 25-35 mph my whole truck would tremble. I drove for another week and then chose to contact Lithia Dodge of Corpus Christi. I spoke with Reggie who was our sales man and he asked that I contact Jennifer Garza to make an appointment to bring it in. She was not in so I then spoke with Russell House and then he had Wayne Lytle contact me. Made an appointment to bring in on Saturday 4/14/07.
We brought in vehicle at 9am and showed back up at 1pm to check on the status. Daniel (service rep) told us that a flash upgrade was performed but problem was not resolved so we would have to bring it back during the week. I left VERY upset. We have not even had this vechile 30 days. We then returned that Tuesday morning (4/17/07) with the vehicle and was left all day.
Was called and told that the transmissions valve body would have to be replaced. We were put into a car rental. They ordered part and replaced it on Wednesday (4/18/07). I spoke with Daniel again and said it did not fix problem will have to keep overnight. Thursday (4/19/07) Wayne phones me and says that the vehicle is repaired and the shutter feeling has been resolved. He said he himself test drove vehicle with the certified transmissin tech and that problem had been resolved. We arrive to pick up vehicle later that evening. As soon as I drive off their lot, not even half way down the street, it does it again.
I IMMEDIATELY returned back and insisted Wayne to get in vehcile with us and go on a drive so that he can feel the shutter and immediatly he felt the same thing. Said he did not feel it at all when he and mechanic test drove it. We then drove a new Durango off the lot to see if that one had the same problem and it did not it was a smooth ride.
I became VERY upset and asked why we just couldnt get another vehicle and Wayne said it was not that easy. It is a very complicated process and takes a long time. We asked why he just cant replacet the whole transmission and he also said it was the manufacturers decision to be made. We left upset and dissatisfied and were again placed into another car rental. I got a phone call on Friday (4/20/07) from Wayne advising me that they are going to go ahead and replace the whole transmission.
Can you believe that.
It is a BRAND NEW vehicle. Not even had in my posession for 30 days and it has this problem. I have NEVER owned a new vehicle in my life and am sooooo upset and disappointed. I have looked into the lemon law and have documentation of all of this that has been going on. I wish that I would have looked into this website and these complaints sooner. I love my truck. I love it.
But I do not want to have these problems. We purchase new so that we would avoid all of these problems. I have a 1999 Ford Mustang and not once have I had to put any big money into a transmission or engine repair. I understand that all of this is under warranty but that is not the point. We have a 1999 Dodge Durango. It uses A LOT of oil, can't find a leak anywhere. The transmission had to be rebuilt twice. The voltage regulator gauge is broken. And just the other day, my husband and I were going down the highway and the back driver's side door exploded! Scared the crap out of us, especially my husband who just came back from Iraq about 3 months ago! Not sure what happened, the electric window still works, so does the speaker. I'm just glad my 3 year old wasnt in the car, especially since he sits right next to that door.

My husband and I purchased an 05 Durango. The sales man told us it had 3rd row seating. After all paperwork was done, we went to drive it off the lot, and noticed that it was not 3rd row seating. That was just the start of my problems with Dodge.
We exchanged the Durango for another one, and everything seemed great until February 07. I came home for lunch, and parked the car. I was inside for 2 hours, came out to find my car smoking ! Called Dodge and it took them 2 days to tow our car to the dealership. When it finally got there, they said they could not touch the car until an investigator came to do a report.
After a week and a half, the investigator said that the ip in the dash caught fire. I then started dealing with corporate, who immediatly faxed me a paper to sign saying that I will relase Dodge, and Chryslar for any and all known and unknown claims with the car for forever. I refused to sign it. T
hey refused to fix it. My $ 40,000 car has been sitting at the dealership for 2 months now, smelling like burnt electrical, and no one is willing to fix it. Chryslar issused a recall of 300,00 Durangos for this problem, however Reno Dodge still won't fix it. Instead they asked us to come down to the dealership to see what we could figure out. They wanted me to trade in the Durango, put 20,000 down, and stll finance antother 24,000 on another Durango that is just 1 year newer then mine !!!!
Reno Dodge is horrible, as is Chryslar. Beware. If this were to happen to you, they will not fix it nor will they help you. They wouldn't even give us a rental car. I had to borrow a car from my in-laws. Not one person has helped us, and I will be going to the news with this story. Everyone should know that this is a possibility with the Durangos. Be careful when buying a Dodge. It's not worth the hassel.

I had the vehicle serviced every 3000 miles, mostly by the Chrysler dealership that sold me the truck. My last service appointment was March 15, 2007 with 35061 miles on the odometer. Dealer services technicians noted that the vehicle's suspension was checked and that no problems were found.
On April 2, 2007, I took the truck to another service station for an annual Maine safety inspection and was told that the lower left ball joint would need to be replaced. On April 5, 2007, the repairs were made in order for the truck to get a new inspection sticker at a cost of about $180 including the inspection fee. I don't want to be hauling a big load down a long grade with out it. After a few days of owning it, I started to try to figure how the exhaust brake was activated. I found out that there was a switch missing and Dodge doesn't carry it yet.
The dealer also could not find out where in the computer program to activate it. (According to Cummins, it has to be activated in the computer) I've contacted Dodge three times with no success.
I feel like they either have a problem with the exaust brake or they put the engines out before they were ready to implement them into the rest of the truck. I wish I could get a straight answer. My Dodge truck caught fire Sunday morning at 10:30AM. I was making a trip to the local Home Depot and only got 0.25 miles from my home when the engine compartment burst into flames as I stopped for a traffic light.
The vehicle was approximately 6 years old and the mileage was under 43,000 miles. I had not been driving the vehicle for the past 1-1/2 weeks and it sat in front of my home during the recent spate of Winter weather.
The event only took approximately 20 seconds from smelling gas, to seeing the smoke enter the passenger compartment as the flames spread from beneath the hood. The fire's strength and intensity gave me only seconds to exit the vehicle, as the cab filled with smoke quickly. It was difficult to watch the vehicle burn; I had never had any problems with the truck prior to the fire.
The truck is a total loss, and my insurance company seems ready to pay market value, although they are asking for a tremendous amount of information prior to settling the matter.
The good news is that no one was hurt and police and fire responded within 5 and 10 minutes respectively to manage traffic and extinguish the fire. I will always remember the event, especially since the pavement at the intersection traveled weekly is burned and scorched.
I will be without a truck, which was a recreational vehicle for vacations and hunting and fishing trips, for several months as I look for a replacement vehicle. This is the second Chrysler vehicle that I owned that burned...and the last.

we gave them a years worth form the garage we bring it to because the dealership is about 40 minutes from our house. then we waited a few more days. Chrysler calls and says thst there was sludge on the engine and can't do anything for us with out oil change records from 0-the milage now. I gave them everything we had and they told us because we didn't have EVERY SINGLE oil change recipt they wouldn't do anything for us.
i only have 1 more year on the lease and the new engine installed will cost more than that entire year of lease payments and we can't do that financially. so they told us our only options were as follows: and these are great by the way...
1. do a voluntery repo and they will try to sell the car at auction. (remember it needs an engine)and then we would be responsible to pay the difference of what they didn't get for it???? 2.stop paying the payments and they will repo it. 3. have the dealer take it as a trade in and get us into a new car??? again it needs a new engine and the what dealer in their right mind will take that as a trade. so our hands are tied and now my credit is going down the toilet and I'm forced to buy another car as soon as I can before the repo hits my credit......
I'll never buy another daimler chrysler vehicle again. and the kicker is we have leased from Chrysler for the past 9 years 3 different cars..... and they won't do anything at all for us.

I received a recall on the upper balljoints on my 2001 Dakota. The car had a loose feel when driving and the tires were wearing. When you hit a bump the steering became eratic.
The problem still seems to exist even with the replacement of the balljoints. The tires are wearing unevenly, the steering is loose, and when you hit a bump in the road the steering wheel starts to jump.

We have purchased a brand new 2006 Dodge 3500 Cummins Diesel in February of 2006. This vehicle is used for long haul business use. When we purchased the vehicle we were assured by the sales person that this vehicle has a 100000 mile Power Train Warranty which included Engine, Transmission etc. We broke down 2500 miles from home in California. The Transmission made an aweful noise. We now had 78000 miles on it so I wasn't worried because we are covered. Well, so I thought. When we found a Dodge Dealer and they pulled up our info they informed us that the warrany ran out at 36,000 miles.
I called the dealership we purchased the truck from (Stuart Bowman Dodge Asheboro, NC) and they informed us that the sales person is not there but that the 2006 and 2007 model is not covered for 100000 miles. I told them that I was told it was when I purchased the vehicle for $47000. They said sorry but that was a mistake. That mistake is probably cause me to be without a job. I would never buy a vehicle from that dealership. They made a mistake but can't do nothing about it but they sure were nice when I purchased it.

I bought a 2003 Dodge Durango R/T with 63k miles, 3 weeks after I bought it, the Transmission went bad. Even though I had a bad day when it happened, Brien Ford in Everett, WA. really took care of me when they didn't have to, they are fixing it at their own expense, gave me a fully paid rental of a 2007 4-runner with a 3rd row seat for a week. Because of their extra effort, my family hasn't been put out at all, it's defnitely worth it to buy from Brien Ford on Evergreen Way in Everett, WA. I won't buy anything anywhere else ever again.

I had the very same problems with my 2002 4.7L engine. But I have every reciept for every oil change. I set the dealer up and went in to another dodge dealer down the street that I had never been to. I told them I had lifter noise. They showed me the sludge under the valve cover just as they did you. MY trick was when they said it was not maintained very well.
When in fact it was maintained by the other dodge dealer right up the street. I produced oil change records for every 3000 miles and used the oil they reccommended. It turns out that the problem is a low pressure oil sump pump from the pan. They will not recall on this issue due to the expense. I pushed and got mine done under warranty and they had to install new hydrolic lifters as well becuase they were gummed up. There are a lot of 1999 ro 2002 4.7L owner going thru the very same things and they should band togteher for a class action suit against Dodge on this issue. I now use noting but Mobil One or Quaker State synthetic oils
I have the very same problems described above. My Durango has lifter noise and I have reciepts for every single 3000 mile oil changes as the owners manual specifies. I have a ton of sludge under the valve covers and the dealer says it from cheap oil. Considering they did 98% of all of the oil changes over the past three years. How can they say it's cheap oil. it was what they put in it.
Now I need to have new Hydo lifters and a new oil sump pump installed to correct the problem. In looking on the internet there are thousands of people who have the very same problems.

I bought a 2000 Doge Dakota Sport brand new. It is yellow and I love my little truck. However, 3 years new the clear coat began to chip, then peeling little by little daily. I asked Dodge for help and they say they can't do anything. After 36 months, they offer no way to fix my problem. Now my truck has no clear coat left on the roof and hood. it's embarrassing to drive. Do you think we'll by Dodge again? Nope.
Because of the defective clear coat Dodge Chrysler uses my new truck appears to be weathered and old. Dodge considers me responsible for repairs. When in reality had they put the neccessary ingredients into their clear coat I wouldn't be complaining about the little yellow truck that I love.
