I heard about Carchex, so I gave it a shot and tried to join. The rep was wonderful, and the coverage is good. I've gone over it and I like the coverage. I can give them an A-plus on that.

I used ChatGPT to give me the list of the top car warranty companies, and it gave me four of them, of which Carchex was one. Chat GPT gave me a comparison chart and also some customer feedback that was useful in my decision. However, the sign-up was a little more complex than I thought it was going to be. There was quite a bit of back and forth before we got to actually settle on me signing up. But they seemed to have the most complete package at the time.
Welcome, and thank you for choosing us! We’re truly grateful you selected our coverage and are glad it stood out as the most complete option for you. We’re excited to have you with us and look forward to being there whenever you need support. If any questions come up, our Customer Service team is happy to help at 1-800-442-1432.

Carchex kind of screwed me over. I didn't have my car around when I first signed up, so I just guessed the mileage, and I guessed way over, and I didn't realize. They never said to give them a follow-up or anything. They didn’t say I had to call back and give them the exact mileage. Something happened with my car, four months down the road. Then, when I had turned it in, they said, “It's only two miles over the mileage you gave us.” I said, “It couldn't be because I didn't drive 15 miles to get to the dealership.” I didn't realize that I had given them the wrong mileage, and it just never went anywhere. They didn't cover my car. They said it was, before I signed up. The guy looked at the notes and said he saw that. He said, “This is the estimate,” but they still wouldn't cover it. The guy said that he's seen in the notes that I told the guy, “I don't have the car. This is what I think it is.” Nothing came out of it. I just ended up having to pay out of pocket.
Lashawn, we’re very concerned to hear about this experience and understand how frustrating that situation must have been. Providing the correct mileage at the time of enrollment is extremely important because the waiting period and contract terms are based on the mileage reported, and even small differences can impact eligibility once a claim is submitted. We certainly understand how an estimate could have been given if the vehicle was not available at the time. We encourage you to contact our Customer Service team at 1-800-442-1432 so we can review the details with you and determine if there is anything that can be done to assist.

I was with Carchex and I paid my money for several years, then when I had something wrong with my car, they refused to pay. I had a problem with the axle and they said that Mercedes was charging too much. They wanted to supply their own part and ship it into Mercedes, and mercedes would not accept it. They want to have their own part, and I don't blame them. Carchex was going through a lot of rigmarole, back and forth, and communicating with the dealer. Carchex wouldn't pay what they asked, so I canceled my membership. I was no longer interested in them. I went to somewhere else and paid from my pocket.
Hyacinth, thank you for sharing your experience. We understand how frustrating repair situations can become when there are pricing differences involved. A review of the claim indicates that we were prepared to cover the labor for the repair, along with a portion of the parts. There was, however, a substantial difference between the cost at which we could supply the parts and the amount the repair facility was charging, which led to the back and forth regarding part sourcing. We recognize how inconvenient that process can feel. If you have further questions regarding the claim, we would be happy to address them with you. Please contact Customer Service at 1-800-442-1432.

Do not sieve 1.00 I’m putting in a law suit and all recordings will be handled in court. I actually purchased two policy. Both claims denied.
We understand your frustration and appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. 2 years paying; due to government shutdown called to cancel and not have a deduction, that money was for my electric bill. Bobby from customer service offered to deferrer the month and pay the next and I accepted; two day later money is gone. Called back and Mariah said that can return the money if I agree to pay double the next. I complained saying I wasn’t told that. Her attitude was that they were trying to help and didn’t want the options. Requested my money back and cancellation and she said if cancel no money back or prorated month either, just hold the policy until the end of the month. Stay away from them!

CarChex is a complete scam! I have been paying 169.99 a month on the best plan for my 2014 Audi Q5. My alternator was no longer charging my battery so it’s a done deal right! The adjuster who spoke to my mechanic said they will only pay $417.00 toward work that costs $2,228.00. And said they can give the parts! You would think they would replace it my genuine part with the same a German part. No! This pion said they can send in Japanese parts !!!! Are you kidding me ? Japanese parts in a German car ?! I was mortified! The adjuster is a complete idiot! When I call “Carchex” I have to go through all these different departments such as car shield and American Auto Shield! So guess what! Carchex sells you the extended warranty but it’s American Auto shield that is the underwriter for the contract! A complete scam.
My contract doesn’t say this not does it say that they will only pay part of the what needs to be fixed on the car my claim number for this alternator issue is **. Do not waste your money with them! They are stealing customers money!! You read this review! Don’t you dare waste one cent with them. Find someone else or buy a new vehicle where the dealership you are purchasing the car from has an extended warranty that covers everything no questions asked! And no deductible! You can get one that covers up to 75,000 miles or 100,000 or more. You will have to pay up to $5,000 to 8,000 for it upfront of you can finance it! It’s worth it. I have done this twice. I have owned Audi for 19 years! You will have a peace of mind! All you have to do Is call the dealership when your vehicle has been diagnosed and they take it from there by calling the extended warranty company and you're all set!

I bought a premium product with a $100 deductible. My son's Nissan has had some problems with the check engine light and we have taken it in to the Nissan dealer to get repairs. The Nissan rep has said that he has experienced long delays in getting approval for parts, which in turn delays the return of the car to us. And when parts finally get approved, I still pay several hundred dollars out of pocket for parts that meet their quality standards. I would have been better off never getting the policy and just paying for the repairs. Also, I contacted two CarChex reps and never heard a word back.

Only gave me $100 for a $600 battery and didn't cover the suspension stating that I had a leak that caused the issue with the suspension. But I gave them another shot. Low beam head light $485 didn't cover that are the Struts stating that the struts was cause by a drop in the car. What the? The BMW dealer in Dallas Texas stated it was from hitting a pothole and one in the back not covered as well.

Do not, I repeat, do not pay your money for the extended warranty for Carchex. I'm going to tell you how they just done me. I got a Dodge Challenger. I had the car for 3 years, no problems until recently my a/c started to blow hot and I also somehow got a hole in my tank. Call them, they said take it to the repair shop of my choice. I decided to take it to the dealership. My car been at the dealership for 2 weeks waiting to get fixed. They call me today 6/20/2025 and declined everything. Remind you my a/c and fuel tank is covered under the warranty. So my advice to anyone thinking about getting the extended warranty thru carchex please do not waste your money on them. They will find any excuse not to fix your car. Take my advice. They just did it to me

Carchex had no issue taking my $2299 for an extended warranty on my 2019 F350. It now has an oil leak on the upper oil pan. A very reputable repair shop has said it is leaking, as well as a local Ford dealer, and Carchex has denied the claim stating it is "seepage" and not a verified leak. Repair shops both state it needs to be repaired to avoid further damage. Would not buy another extended warranty as this is how claims are denied so will pay the $3500 out of pocket to get the truck fixed.

I can’t express how disappointed I am with your company. Please review claim #**. First, I completely agree with your decision not to cover the initial estimate; it was ridiculous. After much back and forth, you finally agreed to pay for the cylinder head replacement, but again, at your costs. While the dealership covered the majority of the costs, I was still left with a bill of $2,076 that I had to pay to retrieve my car. I thought I was paying for a warranty to avoid these out-of-pocket expenses. Now, I am trying to get my thermostat fixed, and you are still denying the claim.
Initially, the dealership contacted Carchex and informed the service manager that the repair was not covered. After further review, you acknowledged the mistake, yet you still denied the repair amount. Eventually, you agreed to pay for part of the repair, but your offer is not acceptable. The cost to repair or replace the thermostat unit is $1,199.24. You informed the service manager that you would only cover $385 in labor and $70.80 for parts, leaving me to pay the remainder. Have you lost your mind?
The purpose of this warranty is to cover the repairs that are explicitly included. As stated in the contract booklet I received from your company: “Carchex is committed to providing the best product and the best service in the industry.” You have not fulfilled that commitment. If you do not want to service or pay for repairs on vehicles like mine—Mini Coopers, BMWs, or any German or foreign vehicles with higher repair costs—please do not offer a warranty for those vehicles. Be upfront during the sales call and say, “We cannot guarantee coverage for repairs on your vehicle because of its make.”
Yes, you have the right to deny repair costs, just as dealerships and repair facilities have the right to charge what they choose. However, the issue lies in your omission of this truth when selling the product, leaving consumers like me to uncover it later. Your company has failed its customers, and it’s no surprise that you rank eight place in the industry. I plan to share this letter on every social media platform I use to warn consumers not to buy a warranty from your company, and instead to consider the number one provider, Endurance, which will take better care of customers. I am also sending a copy of this letter to the following organizations:
- Better Business Bureau- Federal Trade Commission
- Attorney General of Texas
- Texas State Consumer Agency
Additionally, I will make weekly complaints on Google, Yelp, or any car review platform. I will advise consumers to choose Endurance for a better warranty experience and to cancel their current warranty with you, as you are not worth the headache.

I'm not going to go into a long, super-detailed account of what happened with this, um, "company." The important thing to do is to just take into account all of the one-star reviews. 99 percent of all complaints are all centered around this, um, "company," not paying when claims are made. It doesn't matter if the bogus plans they offer are silver, platinum, diamond, or 24 karat gold. The bottom line is that they are NOT going to pay when it's time to use auto repair services. So, my story is not unlike any of the others. I bought a policy. I tried to use the policy for repair. This lacking "company" balked at paying. I paid out of pocket for the repair, AND, apologized to the repair shop for having to deal with CARCHEX. (I had to do a revision of my review because I was sort of making personal insults. So, in light of having my submission read by other people who may make a bad decision and me being able to help, I removed my slightly naughty remarks.)

They wanted to use internet crap cheap stuff and only would help with the uplift pump. I called customer service myself and talked but these people they are clueless! I paid for the best package but only got $500 into a $3800 bill.

Unethical and misleading advertising, from a fundamentally unethical company! When I purchased the policy, I asked the agent whether I could do any covered repairs at the dealership. The agent said "ABSOLUTELY!" What he did not tell me was that they will not approve original equipment (OEMs) or the labor rates of a typical dealership. They also "neglected" to let me know that they don't cover screws, hoses, and all sorts of auxiliary items that repair shops will not put back into the car in fear that they may fail.
When someone fails to highlight critical information, they "lie by omission". CARCHEX makes money when they DON'T provide service. They are not your friend. They are your adversary, who makes money when you end up paying out of pocket. You THINK that you have coverage, but really you DON'T. Save your money and the aggravation.

Don't be fooled. They don't tell you that they only pay a portion of the cost for parts and labor. From that they subtract your deductible. On a 1650 bill, they paid 570. Not an absolute scam but you certainly do not receive what you expect from this company. Their sales pitch and website make it sound as though you can “pick any repair shop you want including the dealership”. Get an estimate for the work, call to gain approval, have the vehicle repaired and pay your deductible. Wrong. They rely on “national average repair rates and aftermarket parts costs”. What that means is that actually repairing your car will cost far more than their data shows. So you should be prepared for the program to cover maybe 50% of the cost before your deductible. For most repairs, you’d be better off if you simply saved the upfront cost of the warranty program and paid out of pocket for future repairs. Perhaps not a scam but certainly not as advertised on their webpage. Stay away.
Reviewed May 7, 2024
They deceive. If repairs are needed, they will find a reason to refuse to pay for the repairs. If you terminate the contract, they do not return the full amount paid under the contract. If you haven’t used it, they still don’t pay. They count how long this contract lasted and calculate the money. They lie.
