I signed up with My Computer Works about a year ago. I paid $40/ month (all monies rounded off for pennies), which included $5 for premium service so I could get a tech call back within three hours, instead of waiting much longer. The techs were sometimes good. sometimes incompetent. Examples of the latter: One tech did not know that the icons on the top toolbar of Microsoft Word are put there by the user (I put them there). He said they were put there by Microsoft and thus could not be rearranged. Sad, that I knew more about it than he did.

Another told me that for One Drive to work it had to be synched with my Documents file. Not true. It caused me much time wasted to figure this out and correct it. A third tech claimed that un-checking the "collapse the ribbon" prompt so the Home page on Word would be the default was too complicated for anyone but a tech to do it. It is quite simple. A child could do it.

The last mentioned tech called me back an hour or so after our session, and told me that he looked over my record and my plan entitled me to IDrive, MCW's file backup. I told him I didn't need or want it, since I had a flash drive backup and used One Drive for further backup as well. He claimed One Drive wasn't really on the Cloud or some such, and that I should use IDrive since it was already included. I acquiesced. The next month the charge, automatically deducted from my debit card, and thus checking account, was $50. I called to find out why. Billing rarely answers their phone, so I had to speak to the tech reservations associate. She told me the charge was for IDrive. I explained the particulars and she said the head of billing would call me.

After two days of no call from billing, I filed a dispute with my bank for the $10. The following day I called billing, and this time got to speak to a rep there. I told her I would drop the dispute, and MCW could just give me back the $10, so they could avoid paperwork and such. The woman I spoke to said, "You already filed a dispute." She wasn't amenable to me dropping it. That made no sense at the time. Anyway, I just let the process play out and of course won the dispute.

Everything proceeded as normal for a week or so. One day I left my number for a call back from a tech as usual, but got no call back all day. That never happened before. I called the next day, and spoke to a tech reservations associate, relating the no callback. She checked my account and told me my services had been terminated. I asked why.

She said it was because I filed a dispute, and "that costs us a lot of money." I told her I had no way of knowing that, and whatever cost was accrued I would pay MCW, and have my bank pay them back the $10 as well. Notice that MCW didn't even have the courtesy to let me know my services were terminated. Anyway, I was referred to Kerry (a woman, so not sure of spelling), the head of both billing and customer care.

Extensive emails to Kerry explaining all, were never returned. Finally after a few tries and some phone tag (all but one of the five messages left by me to her), I got to speak to Kerry via phone. I asked her to listen to the recording of the tech telling me to engage IDrive for free. It was easy to track down because it happened on the same day Idrive was engaged.

Kerry refused to do so, saying she'd rather rely on his notes. She then claimed that once a person files a dispute that means they no longer want to do business with MCW. That was beyond absurd. Kerry was totally intransigent. It was clear no matter what I said, or could prove, or offered to MCW in terms of compensation to resolve matters, she would not consider any of it in any way.

As she was aware, I am 79 and disabled (spondylitis an auto-immune disease that affects the spine). I badly need tech services. That didn't matter to MCW. The treatment about the billing issues I received from them was inhuman. As it actually would be for anyone, disabled or not. As shown, the tech services themselves were also filled with incompetence.

Weeks later, much after the termination, they were still backing up my files with IDrive. More incompetence. I emailed, and then I got an IDrive popup which said the backup failed because of cancellation of services. So they can't even eliminate that correctly. Now I get a popup asking me to restart IDrive, rather ridiculous. If you want to use a company that is filled with incompetence on many levels, and inhumanity on others, engage MyComputerWorks. Otherwise use one of the other computer tech support companies. They have to be better. I'll be signing up for one of them shortly. I advise you to do so as well.

September 2018, I requested My Computer Works look at my computer which had ceased to operate after a Windows 10 update. I had to give my credit card information. The technician BRIEFLY connected to my computer and informed me my computer was old and couldn't be fixed. I assumed there was no charge for this initial evaluation which took less than two minutes. Assuming that was it I forgot about them. They then drafted my account for $400 over the next months. I discovered they had signed me up without my authorization for a service contract on a computer they said could never be fixed.

Next they raised the service contract's monthly draft by 17% without informing me. I requested a full refund and informed them I was not pleased with how I was treated. Ellisha ** said she would get back to me. I have yet to hear from her. I'm still out $400. If they were a five-star company, they would have refunded all my money and then asked me to contact them next time I had a computer problem. The only way they can remain in business is to steal money off credit cards without fixing computers for customers and then sign them up for service contracts without their authorization. THIEVES AND EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. BEWARE!!!

The computer technician that My Computer Works sent was terrible, didn't help us at all, was just determined that we sign the "contract" with MCW that relieved them of all responsibility re: if the technician know what he was doing. He stayed for few minutes, took the casing off of the tower, fiddled around for a few minutes, then left without restarting or reviewing if the computer worked. When we tried to connect to the internet there was no connection, no matter what we tried. We ended up going back to an Ethernet setup because the connection in the tower was completely gone. And the tech had just left the casing off of the tower when he left.

Everyone should beware of this company. When I called them, they said that they were only a broker and that they did not guarantee any kind of result from their network of technicians. When we called the technician to complain, he said that we had to pay another $117 for him to come out. This company is the worst I have ever dealt with. They are a sham designed to rip people off! I can't believe they are still in business! They should be investigated for fraud and scamming people out of money for worthless service! BUYER BEWARE!!!

I had an issue in November 2018 with my HP All-In-One PC. It wouldn't boot up and I could not find my restore disc. The tech at MCW talked like he was stoned, very slow with long pauses in between. I gave him the info he asked for and his response was, 'Ugg all in one PC's have a tendency to do this, you're better off buying a new PC'! He said he was escalating to tech 2 - NEVER got a call back in over a week. I took it down the street to my local PC repair shop and they had me up and running in 1 day! REALLY?

The solution from MCW was to buy a new computer? Second issue, I canceled our service for 2 computers after this instance due to lack of professionalism and being unresponsive - they never answer the phone, you have to email and leave messages and HOPE they call you back. This is January 3, 2019 and I just got billed again! Left ANOTHER message and sent yet ANOTHER email requesting to CANCEL and refund fees from back to November 2018. HORRIBLE SERVICE!

I was told I would be emailed a receipt. Never received. The TECH was in the computer 3 hours, did good doing a cleanup. The TECH told me I needed a new computer even with my computer will be 3 years old come 12/26. It has WIN10 and he stated the updates would slow down my computer. He stated they provide a serves to select a new computer. I suspect that they also sell computers and this is an attempt to have me buy from them.

I work for an IT company. I talked to my boss and he said I should not have a problem with WIN10 updates stowing down my computer, for how I use one it should be okay. I wonder now if something was done to have a program running in the background which cause my computer to slow down. I do the task manager and see CPU percentage high. Then when I try to see what is running it goes away. I paid the $99 and will try the company a month or so. If things don't improve I will cancel and find a different company that is not interested in me getting a new computer.

Ron, we do not sell computers or hardware, so us recommending you purchase something new is only because it will solve the problem you are asking to be fixed. We also ask that you check your spam folder for a receipt from our company, because they can sometimes be sent there. You will always receive a receipt when we complete a service on your device.

We had used this company for a few months and while they are knowledgeable in fixing computer issues, we had to cancel due to the commencement of service taking longer than 1-hr (we had the Executive Support plan). HOWEVER, the customer service provided by Kerry (customer relations manager) was excellent- 5 stars. She was very good with getting back to us with calls and emails (we had an issue with our phone line which we didn't know about for a couple of days) as well providing us with all requested information.

    Original Review: Oct. 13, 2018

I signed up for the 1-hr call-back guarantee (at an extra charge) months ago, but there had been multiple times that my requests had gone without a call-back for well over an hour which resulted in my spending an entire weekend working on the problem myself. I signed up with this company because of the aforementioned guarantee as technical issues can wreak havoc on small businesses. I requested the service be canceled months ago - didn't happen. I was unable to receive assistance via phone (lines are always tied up).

I then emailed the billing department, received ONE email from Alicia stating she had called (I was unable to answer due to a business meeting) and gave her availability for the day. I followed up that SAME day... Nothing. Since her (one) call nearly 1 month ago, I have attempted to contact her via FIVE emails to Alicia in addition to attempting to contact the company via email and phone (again, always busy). AND I'm still getting billed.

Don't use this service. I called because I was having a problem with my computer. The man on the phone said they had two payment options. I picked $24.95 month. He said I could try service for 30 days. He never mentioned a contract for one year or I would never have used the service. The first time I spoke with a tech he had my computer working then about a week later it was back to the way it was. Try calling them and nobody ever answers the phone. Think they are working out of their homes.

I wasn't with the service a month and called to cancel and of course nobody answers the phone so I left a message to cancel the account. I get an email from them stating I was on a contract and to cancel is going to cost $609.00. I couldn't believe it. Every time I called again no answer but get an answer machine. I called my bank to have them stop the payment to them. Now they are calling and leaving messages so again I called and again no answer. I never committed to any contract. Also they never fixed my computer.

This company states it will walk you through the process by tutoring you on a list of programs "and more". I called twice. The first was to remove bugs. The second experience was excellent... but the third time - the truth came out. I asked for some direction on how to negotiate Google sites - (which, by the way, is designed for average computer Joe's to use, which I am not one). The "expert" tech, after about 5 minutes, realized he wasn't quite the "expert" the company postured him to be, he then checked with Damon, the senior tech "expert" who arbitrarily decided that asking for direction to negotiate Google sites falls under believe it or not, ready? "Web Design"! That was a weak sauce, phony-baloney move... so much for tutorials. What was even more pathetic is the "expert" tech attempted to conflate helping me with a few steps with Google sites - with writing computer code! Absurd.

I'm sure they have other packaged answers at the ready for other basic things that their "experts" are ignorant of... What was amusing about it all is that my initial Google site was set up a few years ago by college kid majoring in history! This is classic bait and switch. I've requested my $99.00 "set-up" fee to be refunded to my account with no response. I'll be making it a point to continue to warn more consumers about My Computer Works' slimy tactics. Unless they change their modality, they'll go into the heap with all the rest of the false advertisers who defrauded their customers. I will now be on the warpath because of these jokers!

My Computer Works sent me an email 4/5/18 saying they had refunded $99.90 to my credit card. On 4/4/18 at 7:43 PM PST My Computer Works technician, Eli, phoned me. He was honest, helpful, and returned my computer to its proper condition. Eli told me I could keep my account for $29/month and that I could request his services specifically whenever I phone technical support. This arrangement is fine with me, so I agree to keep my account. Unfortunately, when I phoned for technical support 4/5/18 at about 3:30 PM PST a person answered and offered to help me install Malwarebytes Premium, but she said her computer reflected that my account was cancelled. She said she would "get this straightened out," put me on hold, and a few minutes later my call was transferred to another department without my knowing why, so really the problem is partly--but not wholly--resolved.

    Original Review: April 4, 2018

On 3/28/18 I phoned My Computer Works at 877-219-6748, as listed in the Yellow Pages. Beau answered and started a sales pitch for a computer tune-up, which I interrupted, telling him I didn't need or want a tune-up, because my computer was working perfectly. I told him all I wanted was training on how to delete and create folders in Outlook Mail. He said the initial fee was $99 (which I assumed was an enrollment fee), plus $29/mo. Gianni, a technician, phoned me in an hour, and I told him all I wanted was training on how to delete and create folders in Outlook Mail. He said he would take over my computer remotely and train me. The first time he asked me to enter my password, it was secure, because only dots appeared.

Then he asked me to enter my password in another box, but to my surprise the password I entered appeared on the screen, and I see it as unethical for Gianni to obtain my password. Once he had remote control of my computer, Gianni told me to hang up the phone, and he would call back to train me remotely. I watched in astonishment as he took about an hour and ten minutes tuning up my computer without my consent, including making numerous changes and installing much software on my computer! When he phoned back, he trained me in under 5 minutes.

Ever since then, I've had computer problems I never had before. One problem is pop-up ads that obscure about 1/4 of my Outlook Mail screen and remain there. Two times while I was shutting down, a black mini-window appeared with rapidly scrolling white letters and numbers that appeared to be computer codes. When I click shut down, the computer automatically restarts, and messages appear, e.g. "Hey, your files are still downloading. You might lose them if you close the browser," or saying if I shut down I will lose my unsaved work. With both kinds of messages, there were no files downloading and no unsaved work. In Outlook Mail, the up caret and scrollbar no longer work, so I cannot reach whatever folder I need.

Beau committed fraud (defined as "wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain") by charging me $99.90 (not $99) for a tune-up I explicitly refused. Gianni unethically did a tune-up without my consent, when all I asked for was training. Gianni unethically gained access to my password. Gianni was extremely incompetent in tuning up my computer. Other phone nos. of the company are **, 602-635-6150, and 877-629-6972.

On 3/30/18 I left a message summarizing the problems and requesting cancellation of my account. I have left 4 call-back messages from 3/30/18 to 4/2/18, none of which was returned. I sent a long email on 4/2/18 at 9:37 AM PST, requesting cancellation of my account and repair of my computer, but there was no answer by phone or email. Citi Visa concluded the case was fraud and refunded the $99.90 billed by My Computer Works. I filed a lengthy complaint with the Federal Trade Commission on 4/3/18.

The MCW tech came the next day and he managed reinstall Win 7 from my flash drive, then the many (181) Windows updates were coming in and we agreed to interrupt the d/l until the next day. Next morning, I completed the d/l and Windows began installing them. Three hours later, reboot: failure configuring updates, reverting changes, another 3 wasted hours. I was billed $200 for a repair which failed. I made several calls and was once told I would only be charged $137. For what? I asked the company to have that tech call me to discuss this SNAFU. Or have anyone else there call me to talk about this problem.

My old gut feelings are that this outfit lacks a responsible sense of duty, charges people before the repair is effective, keep the payment and are obviously unwilling to meet their part of the bargain. When I challenged them giving my debit card info but to pay the tech after the service, I was told that they had (some) techs robbed when payment went to them. Robbed of what? Checks made out to the company? More plastic card details? BS!!! Needless to say, this old man is disgusted and would not recommend MCW to anyone.

Hans, since our technician did work on your computer for hours, he was compensated for that time. You sign paperwork agreeing with our services and gave us a 5 star rating after the work was complete. We also know the danger of technicians collecting money onsite, that is why we require a card on file. Just like a hotel, you must have a card on file to rent a room. If you need to schedule another technician, or have questions please give us a call!

Called through Yellow Pages Ad for my computer to be fixed. The guy Eric came from Ohio and was very tired. Said he had been up almost 24 hours. They charged me $224.00 and I did not want to sign paper until I worked on my computer to see if it indeed is fixed. He said I had to sign before he left or he would not get paid. Well computer was not fixed, I email them. They said they would sent someone out to fix it again and I said fine but I was not paying anymore. So they did not come out. I called a lot with no help. I took it to a computer shop in town and they fixed it for $160.00 and it works great. Don't use the company!!!

Update on 03/24/2018: I responded on March 16, 2018 and you had my response go private but My Computer Works did not answer. After 2 weeks my computer still was not working and they would not come out to fix it properly without charging me again. I took computer up town to a computer store and they fixed it for $160.00. I would like my $224 that My Computer Works charged me refunded.

My Computer Works responded on a weekend and a technician called back within the promised time frame. The technician worked nonstop for over 4 hours to fix a series of challenging problems. He didn't stop until everything was fixed. He effectively communicated the time frame and details of what he was fixing.

I would have given this company a higher rating except for a billing problem. I talked with someone from this company only once. I answered his questions and then he logged in to my computer remotely. My issues were fixed. However I have continued to get billed each month. I’ve called at least twice to fix this, to no avail. I’m trying again today.

We are so sorry there was a miscommunication. However, it showed you signed up for our membership, which is billed monthly and gives you unlimited tech support with us. If you'd like this cancelled, you'll need to call us. If you can't get a hold of someone, please leave a voicemail and we will return your call. Thank you so much for your patience, Pam!

My experience was pleasant and problem was resolved. I liked that it was done in the convenience of my home. Communication was clear on what was done and the cost. I think the cost was very reasonable. I did not have to take my computer into a shop and leave it for a week or more. Problem was handled in a very timely manner. I plan to use them again for future problems.

    Updated review: Feb. 5, 2018

I got a polite phone call this morning- saying that the $117 charge was a mistake. I definitely want to believe them when they say they're sending the $117 back, but it will take a couple of business days to tell for sure. In the meantime, I want to assume they're doing the right thing and not lose them business. Unless you hear back from me again, they've kept to their word.

    Original Review: Feb. 4, 2018

Called them in to fix my broken laptop screen. Said they'd send someone out, and if they didn't fix my computer they wouldn't charge their $117 fee. The first day, he didn't even show up in the 9 am to 1 pm window. I called their number and they asked to reschedule tomorrow, and told me I'd have $10 off. Oh, also I told them it was a hardware problem and they sent a software guy over. The next morning (Saturday) he comes in on time, but just confirms my screen is broken, and leaves. They charged me $117, and now I see the contract was open ended and loose in that it made me agree to pay "the hourly rate". He spent 30 minutes total over here, didn't repair the computer and I got charged me the full amount.
