What is Intelius?

Intelius is a search engine for personal data. The company uses public data to provide customers with a wide variety of information. This includes criminal records and other information for background checks.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) doesn’t classify the company as a consumer reporting agency, which means you can’t use it for tenant or employment screening.

How does Intelius work?

Intelius pulls data from a variety of public sources, including:

  • FBI and local crime records
  • Federal, state and county records
  • Phone directories
  • Real estate deeds

Intelius doesn’t provide any information you can’t find on your own by searching public records, but the company saves its customers time and effort by pulling all the public data together in one interface.

The information Intelius provides typically isn’t readily available on Google; you’d have to comb records and often pay fees for access. With Intelius, you pay a single fee for the information you request.

Intelius memberships cost $24.86 per month, with a discounted rate of $42.25 for two months. However, the company has occasional online offers for additional discounts or opportunities to pay for a five-day trial period.

You can pay for your Intelius account by using a credit card, debit card or PayPal. Keep in mind that your account will automatically renew every 30 days unless you cancel it. To cancel, contact customer service or do it online.

    Beware!!! Forewarned is forearmed!! SECURE SSL CONNECTION: Intelius is a SCAM!!!! I would give it an even lower rating if I could. First of all, I was only trying to get a death record, for a family member. SECURE SSL CONNECTION: Intelius; proceeded with financial report, criminal records, etc. I wasn't interested in any of that, because the person I was getting information is deceased. At the end, it required an email address, as if it/they were going to send a report to me; but that report came with a cost. I would have had no problem paying the $26.; but they would have continued to bill me for information, I didn't request or require. This is another scam to acquire a credit card number that the company will be able to suck money out of. Beware!!! Forewarned is forearmed!!

We are a legitimate public records search service that compiles publicly available information to help individuals search for people, verify contact information, and access background information for personal use. We do not provide official government documents such as death certificates. If you are looking for an official death certificate, we recommend contacting the county or state vital records office directly, as they are the appropriate source for that type of documentation.

    Regarding the information compiled in our reports, because our search is name-based, reports will include all publicly available information associated with that individual, such as address history, phone numbers, possible associates, and other records that may be on file through our data sources.

    All billing details, including subscription terms and automatic renewal policies, are clearly disclosed before any payment is submitted, and users are required to explicitly agree to the terms before being charged. We do not store or misuse payment information.

      More time was spent keeping Intelius from mining my info than their giving me what I was looking to find. Not much help finding info on a recently passed family member.

      Do not use it for a one time check on any info. They overcharged me and then continue recurring charges every month. Now they're saying I don't have an account to cancel, so they just keep taking my money. It's predatory.

      I have 2 charges every month, $25.11 and $3.99. Months ago, I asked for my account to be closed. NOPE, they will not. Changed my credit card account, but they continued to charge to new number. How many millions do they collect by their refusal to close accounts?

      Total scam. A complete waste of time. I'm embarrassed that fell for this.. These are early internet type scams that I thought were done away with. They power you in with a .95 price and before you see anything you have paid 7.95 and agreed to the month subscription. All along the way to getting you're in for. They waste your time with these endless loading and searching screens which now I'm convinced they are videos and not real loading screens. And like I said they continue to hit your card until you have paid 7.95 and signed for a monthly subscription. They get you because once you have paid the initial .95 and wasted 20 minutes they know you're not going to back out. When they do allow you to click on your report it's completely void of any information. I tried looking up a phone number and $8.95 and 20 minutes later they gave me a report that only said the number was from a mobile device.

      Don't waste your money! This site lures you in with a reasonable price but you can only get very, very limited information. If you want to get the information you probably went there for they charge you $7,49 more for each search. Most of the time they don't have the information anyway whether you pay the extra $7,49 or not. Don't know how they stay in business. The site is useless!

      I was a subscribing member for quite a while and when I called to cancel a few months ago they retained me by offering a lower price. I declined at first, knowing how sometimes companies tend to offer a lower price for a short time then increase again down the road. But then they told me it was the regular price, it was not going to change. It was a decent offer so I accepted. Fast forward to now, I go to log in, and find out my account is not active as of a week ago.

      I contacted them and asked why, received a response that my payment did not go through. This is a lie. The account it is attached to for payment has plenty of money in it to cover the cost and has not dipped below the dollar amount required for this subscription, ever. I was then told that I needed to select a new subscription, that they could not reinstate the one I had, which is conveniently twice the price. No thanks. Intelius, do better. You lose customers by trying to deceptively squeeze more money out of them and into your coffers. I have zero respect for this company and will make my opinions known whenever I hear of talk of intelius from now on. Stay far away. And please, go through the steps to have all personal info removed. They don't need it.

      For security reasons I have to check multiple profiles frequently and have noticed that on these profiles addresses are being dropped that were correct. People can now contact Intelius and have their addresses removed. What's the point in having a subscription that doesn't have accurate information. I know for a fact that the information is inaccurate. Don't waste your money on this service.

      Paid more than expected and got nothing current or useful. Searched for person who is a felon and nothing was mentioned about it. Also, nothing current. All data over 13 years old! Nothing current. Wasted my money.

      Intelius deciding how and when accounts are terminated. Have confirmed documentation of cancellation. Company continues to charge me monthly. Repeated attempts the follow their rules, not accepted. So need regulatory audit.
