Specialized Bicycle recalls Tarmac SL7 bikes and framesets

Specialized Bicycle Components of Morgan Hill, Calif., is recalling about 6,900 Specialized Tarmac SL7 bicycles and framesets.

The bicycle’s fork steerer tube can crack or break after a harsh impact, such as hitting a deep pothole or other stressful events. This can pose fall and injury hazards.

The company has received two reports of the bicycle’s steerer tube breaking after a harsh frontal impact. No injuries have been reported.

This recall involves Specialized Tarmac SL7 bicycles and framesets. “Tarmac” is written on the back of the bicycle’s seat tube. There is an integrated (hidden) cable routing through the bicycle’s headset.

“Specialized” or “SWORKS” are printed on the bicycle’s downtube.

The bikes and framesets, manufactured in China, were sold at authorized Specialized Bicycle Components retailers nationwide from July 2020, through August 2021, for between $3,300 and $15,000.

What to do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact Specialized Bicycle Components for a free inspection and repair.

ElliptiGO recalls Arc model stand-up bicycles

ElliptiGO of Solana Beach, Calif., is recalling about 3,800 ElliptiGO Arc bicycles sold in the U.S. and Canada.

The bicycle frame can break while riding, posing fall and injury hazards to the user.

The firm has received 12 reports of broken frames and 11 reports of cracked frames. Six minor injuries resulting from falls have been reported, including lacerations, abrasions, road rash, and a broken helmet.

This recall involves the three models of ElliptiGO Arc bicycles: ElliptiGO Arc 3, ElliptiGO Arc 8, and ElliptiGO Arc 24.

The Arc 3 model has three gears, the Arc 8 model has eight gears, and the Arc 24 model has 24 gears.

ElliptiGO Arc bicycles are composed of an aluminum frame with the words “ElliptiGO” and “Arc” displayed on each side, a front fork, a steering column attached to handlebars, foot platforms situated on drive arms that are attached to swing arms, a front wheel and a rear wheel, front and rear brakes, and a variety of other components.

The bikes, manufactured in Taiwan, were sold at specialty bicycle and fitness stores nationwide and online at www.elliptigo.com and Amazon.com from November 2015, through December 2020, for between $500 and $1,500.

What to do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled ElliptiGO Arc bicycles and contact ElliptiGO Inc. for a replacement bike, credit, or refund. The amount of credit or refund will be prorated based on the age of the bike.

Wiggle Ltd., recalls kids bikes

Wiggle Ltd., of the United Kingdom is recalling about 280 VITUS 14 and VITUS 16 kids bikes.

The bicycles have handbrakes but no footbrakes.

Federal regulations require the bicycles be equipped with both handbrakes and footbrakes.

Sidewalk bicycles with handbrakes but no footbrakes may present a risk of injury to young children who might not be able to stop the bicycles using handbrakes only.

No incidents or injuries are recorded.

This recall involves VITUS 14 and VITUS 16 kids bikes sold in multiple colors with 14-inch wheels for kids ages 3 to 5 years and 16-inch wheels for kids ages 4 to 6 years.

VITUS is printed across the frame of the bicycle.

The bikes, manufactured in China, were sold online at www.wiggle.com and www.chainreactioncycles.com from January 2017 through April 2021 for about $280 for the VITUS 14 and about $300 for the VITUS 16 Kids Bikes.

What to do

Consumers should immediately take the recalled bikes away from children and stop using them. Wiggle Ltd. is contacting all purchasers directly and is providing a free replacement wheel with footbrake.

Burley Recalls Ballz QR Skewers

Burley Design of Eugene, Ore., is recalling about 3,000 Ballz QR Skewers sold in the U.S. and Canada.

The skewer, which connects the Coho XC Cargo Trailer to the bicycle, can shear or bend. This can cause instability of the trailer and the towing bicycle and pose a fall hazard for the bicycle rider.

The firm has received 21 reports of the skewer failing. No injuries have been reported.

This recall involves Ballz QR Skewers with model numbers 960219, 960220, and 960222 sold as individual components, and Ballz QR Skewers (SKU 960219) that were included with Coho XC Cargo Trailers (SKU 935101).

The skewer is silver, 5mm in diameter, has spherical knobs at both ends, and has a lever on one end.

The skewers, manufactured in China, were sold at REI stores nationwide, online at rei.com, burley.com and amazon.com, and through bicycle retailers nationwide from August 2018, through February 2021, for about $30, and the Coho XC Cargo Trailer with skewer for about $450.

Marin Mountain Bikes recalls bicycles

Marin Mountain Bikes of Petaluma, Calif., is recalling about 3,000 mountain bicycles sold in the U.S. and Canada.

The bottom bracket can break during use, causing the user to lose control, posing fall and crash hazards.

The firm has received nine reports of broken bottom brackets. No injuries have been reported.

This recall involves the following 20 different Model Year 2021 Marin Mountain bicycles: San Quentin 1, San Quentin 20”, San Quentin 24”, Wildcat Trail 1, Wildcat Trail 3, Fairfax 1, Fairfax 2, Terra Linda 1, Terra Linda 2, Presidio 3, Kentfield 2, Kentfield 2 ST, Larkspur 1, Muirwoods RC, San Anselmo DS1, San Anselmo DS2, San Rafael DS1, San Rafael DS2, Hidden Canyon 20” and Bayview Trail 24”.

These bicycles were sold in various sizes and color schemes. The model name is printed on the top tube and a “MARIN” decal is on the down tube of the frame.

The bikes, manufactured in Indonesia, were sold at Bike Connection Palo Alto, City Grounds, and The Bike Rack stores and independent bicycle dealers nationwide from August 2020, through April 2021, for between $400 and $1,100.

Rossignol recalls All Track DH Bicycles

Rossignol USA of Park City, Utah, is recalling about 174 Rossignol model year 2018 and 2019 All Track DH Bicycles sold in the U.S and Canada.

Cracks can form at the head tube area of the bicycle, where the fork connects to the bicycle. This can cause the frame to fail and allow the fork and front wheel to separate unexpectedly from the rest of the bicycle, posing a fall hazard.

No incidents or injuries are reported.

This recall includes Rossignol 2018 and 2019 model year All Track DH bicycles produced in Matte Black (2018) and Chartreuse green (2019).

The bicycle model name “All Track DH” is printed on the frame’s top tube.

The bikes, manufactured in Taiwan, were sold at Rossignol dealers/rental resorts nationwide from March 2018, through October 2020, for about $3,800.

Academy Sports + Outdoors recalls Ozone 500 girls’ and boys’ bicycles

Academy Sports + Outdoors of Katy, Texas, is recalling about 3,860 Ozone 500 Girls’ and Boys’ Elevate 24-Inch bicycles.

The rear shock spring on the bikes can become stuck, creating a pinch point between the spring and the seat, posing a risk of injury, or causing the bicycles to stop unexpectedly, posing a fall hazard to the rider.

The firm has received one report of a person injuring his hand under the seat when the rear shock spring compressed.

This recall involves the Ozone 500 Girls’ and Boys’ Elevate 24-Inch bicycles with “Ozone 500” printed on the frame.

The girls’ bicycle frame is fuchsia with black script and the boys’ bicycle frame is black with red script.

The style numbers -- 164538 for the girls' model and 164540 for the boys' -- may be found on the seat tube.

Trek recalls Bontrager Satellite City bicycle pedals

Trek Bicycle Corporation of Waterloo, Wis., is recalling about 345,000 sets of Bontrager Satellite City Bicycle Pedals in the U.S. and Canada.

If the pedals are incorrectly installed by the retailer during assembly, they can fall off the crank arm of the bicycle, posing fall and injury hazards to the rider.

The firm has received 132 reports of the recalled pedals loosening, locking up or falling off, including seven reports of riders falling and experiencing injuries, including scrapes, bruises and road rash.

This recall involves Bontrager Satellite City Pedals, which were installed as original equipment on Trek “Allant+,” “Dual Sport+,” “FX 2,” “FX 3,” “Verve 2,” “Verve 3,” and “Verve+” model bicycles.

“ZTR02” is stamped on the bicycle’s pedal and on the pedals that were sold separately as a replacement part.

The pedals have orange reflectors on the outside edges.

The pedals, manufactured in China, were sold at Trek Bicycle stores and other bicycle stores nationwide, and online at trekbikes.com from January 2018, through April 2021, for between $600 and $6,000. The pedals were also sold separately for about $30.

Brompton recalls electric folding bicycles

Brompton Bicycle of Brooklyn, N.Y., is recalling about 600 Brompton Electric Folding Bicycles.

Due to a software malfunction, the electric system can continue to provide assistance to the motor, causing continued forward momentum when the rider is not actively pedaling, posing fall and injury hazards.

The firm has received one report of a bicycle providing continued assistance when the rider had stopped pedaling. No injuries have been reported.

This recall involves Brompton Electric Folding Bicycles with a three-section folding frame, 16-inch wheels sold in black, white, Turkish green & bolt lacquer.
