They were spot-on. They showed up. They did another inventory, made sure that they had enough space for everything, and they took all the items that were there that we had packed up and properly wrapped up everything that was not wrapped in the manner in which they needed for safety. The crew was absolutely amazing. They put in extra hours and extra work to get it all done in one day like they promised. I had one of the crew members touch base with me during the move and found a piece of jewelry from my mother who passed away and returned it to me. Most people wouldn't have done that and he did. I was very grateful for that. I would give them an A+.

I like that Direct Relocation is not expensive. I went on their website. They didn't include that you have to pay extra if there was a stair like a lift. It would be helpful if they tell you that. So, that was the one complaint. Also, maybe my estimate was not good. They did mention the size of the truck, but I couldn't imagine that it was that big. Luckily, we had that space for the truck to back up but if it was a different setup, then we would have a problem. So, those two things were not so clear and could be clarified better. Other than that, Direct Relocation is a good company. The moving crew was good. They were friendly and helpful. They knew what they were doing. They were on time. They seemed a little bit tired, but they didn't complain.

It was a very unfortunate beginning, but it ended well. I had a bad experience with the people who were supposed to pick up my stuff. They weren't answering phone calls so I called and left a message for them to keep the $100 deposit and I was gonna find another company that would answer the phone. I looked online and found Safe Ship. They told me that it was gonna be double the price. I needed a moving company because I needed to move quickly. My sister's in hospice in Michigan and I needed to go. I even told them that. I also told them I was looking for a moving company but they did not tell me that they were not a moving company even though they're listed as a moving company. They call themselves moving brokers, which even my friend in New York who's been in the moving business for 40 years has never heard of. It's a bogus business.

They charged me $1,900 to set me up with Direct Relocation Services. After doing investigation, I found out that half of that money was for them to make the phone call to Direct Relocation Services or any other one that they used at the time. I got my $1,900 refunded for my credit card three days ago. In the meantime, they sent me to Direct Relocation Services, and they were terrific. They came in and got things done. It was perfect. It was a small move and there were four of them. One person was in the kitchen packing up some dishes that I had, and there were a couple other guys doing everything else and moving things.

I didn't know that moving companies will then sometimes arrange for someone else to do the delivery so there was another moving company that delivered my stuff. It was one guy on his own. But he was incredible also. Direct Relocation Services got me in touch with someone great. I've noticed in the business that the only people who leave reviews are people who did not have a good experience, so I wanted to leave one for Direct Relocation Services because my experience was terrific. But when I tried to leave a good review for them, it asked for passwords which I don't have so I gave up.

I put my number into one of the moving sites and I got 20 calls and a bunch of messages. One gentleman touched based with me and he seemed nice enough so I decided to go with him. He walked me through the process. He set up Direct Relocation Services for me. He gave me the quote and from there, it was just waiting for the actual service to call me to schedule it. From beginning to end, everyone was pretty straightforward. I even made a couple of mistakes and they were pretty quick to brush it off as me being a first time mover. So no complaints from me.

I set up everything around the mid point of January and that's when they did the pick up. Then I had them hold it for about a month or two. That gave me enough time to get a place to stay. The delivery itself only took about three weeks. The rep would let me know when she had trucks out and when was the next one, which kind of eased my nerves quite a bit. I appreciate Direct Relocation Services. The only thing is that should give their drivers a little bit more rest and an extra raise or two.

We used Direct Relocation from Jacksonville, Florida to outside Boston Massachusetts. The person I talked to on the phone a couple of times was really good. But then the quality control guy seemed to be more interested in jacking up what we'd agreed on. He said, "Oh, no. You're not gonna get everything in there with the amount that we estimated for you. You're gonna have to buy more room if you wanna do all that." We already had almost everything boxed up and knew how much room we were going to need. I told him he was like a car salesman trying to upcharge me. He said, "Oh, no, no. We took the same information."

I finally figured out how he came up with different numbers. By going off the same list, if it says dresser or a table, they were gonna estimate it a certain cubic footage. He said, "Well, when they plug that and then you add in a cost of, we plugged the numbers in again and it came out as more." I said, "Eh, it should have come out as less." I added some and removed some as we went through stuff. A bed is this much, but it doesn't differentiate between a medium-sized queen bed and a more ornate one. I gave the first guy the amount of small, medium, and large moving boxes and the other large things. And when he told me the cubic footage, I went through and looked at everything and agreed. The other guy said, "Well, if you don't have enough room, then you're gonna have to leave stuff off. And if you need more room, you're gonna have to pay for more room." I didn't like his attitude. He wouldn't give me straight answers.

I said, "And we've got the same list, but now you're telling me it's more cubic footage? How can the first guy go off the list and now you go over the list and come up with a thousand more cubic feet?" Our friend had a stroke and got in a car accident, so we took care of her and then moved her up here. So, we were paying for the move because she couldn't access her accounts because her brain was shot. Finally, we circled back, and he said, "Well, we'll go with the original. But if you need more room, you're gonna have to talk to the movers." I did call the manager and let him know right away what was unsatisfactory to me. He said that usually doesn't happen. He seemed disappointed in my experience with dealing with this guy.

The movers were outstanding. They wrapped up the dressers, the couch, and the loveseat. We still had a few more boxes so we were packing a bit as they went through. We had the boxes marked as, "storage", "house" or "bedroom". They said, "We'll try to put them in like that, kinda separate. Well same area, but these are going our warehouse where they're gonna be unloaded and then put back in the next truck." I said, "Okay." They just kept going. We offered them water. They knew what they were doing. They had to stop once because we had an old car that was getting towed out of the yard so they had to move the truck out until the car got towed and them moved back. So, that was kind of their break. They had a good sense of humor. We joked around. And because of the ease with which they made it, we gave them a good cash tip each.

We told them that some of the stuff would be offloaded at the house and the rest at the storage unit. It's only about five minutes away, and they were great bringing stuff in, setting up the bed and putting stuff where we wanted them and then back in the truck at the end of the storage area. They offloaded everything fine and stacked it fine. Fortunately, I got a storage unit bigger than what I needed, so it was easy to put stuff in. They worked great. I had stuff set aside and said, "This is my wish list. If there's any room. I'd like these to go too." When they were done, they were like, "Okay. Yup, we can take your wish list."

It was a bit of a walk to where my unit was, but the three guys that brought the stuff down were great. They got a cash tip, too. The only two issues I had were a small cabinet was put together with presswood, and the top of the cabinet broke during delivery. I said, "Just some wood glue. It's not an expensive piece. I'm not worried about that." Also, there was an old wooden toolbox from the 60s, and a piece of the bottom came off it, but that just needs to be tacked back on.

I called several other places before and I looked into renting a Bosch truck and looked into how much it would be to have movers come and do it, and going with Direct Relocation was good value. We did short notice because we were trying to get our friend out of there and up where we could take care of her, and they were really good. We worked on the schedule, trying to get the vehicle there in time before we had to leave. The part of the process that confused us was that we made an initial payment with the company, and we were told that when the movers got there, we would have to pay them either cash, money order or Zelle. But when they got up here, we were told it had to be cash or Zelle.

The company told us that they only accepted either cash or Zelle. When my wife tried to set up a Zelle account, and had problems because it's normally bank-to-bank, I was about to get my vehicle and go to an ATM and pull out what I could. She managed to talk to somebody at the company and they switched it to Venmo so we could use that. But it was a pain in the butt trying to get our friend's bank and our credit union to talk to each other to transfer the money over so that we could then send it to their company. We did get the money transferred. What is still puzzling us is why they wouldn't just take a credit card. Even when it got delivered, they wouldn't take money orders. It was only cash or Zelle, but it's their policy.

Direct Relocation lost or stole almost half of my shipment! There has not been a successful refund or resolution to this date. Diego was helpful and friendly on phone to begin the process. Pick up was late by two days of agreed-upon schedule. I should have cut my losses and run. Joseph and crew picked up my furniture and boxed items nearly a year ago to transport from Florida to Minnesota. When the truck arrived to pick up my load, it was full of someone else’s items.

After removing and juggling around their load they co-mingled my items with another client’s items. That was the last I saw of 16 of my items which included a nightstand, boxes of my mother’s china and crystal, 2 suitcases with my mother’s clothes and miscellaneous items, wicker tables, antique footstools, boxed original framed drawings and a framed intaglio print, new paper shredder in it’s original box, my grandfather’s hand carved duck decoy…items that are irreplaceable.

The pickup was at end of March 2024. The delivery took longer than expected and arrived via another contracted freight company end of July 2024. As I waited, I called frequently to check that my items were still in their warehouse. Maria assured me they were. What I received was part of my shipment. The delivery personnel showed me a photo of my stacked items at the warehouse from when they picked up. It was already missing half of my shipment at the warehouse! (Also included someone’s item which they delivered to me. I declined ownership so they left with it.) All these months at the warehouse, they had already lost half of my shipment. I began the claims process for the missing items. I decided not to claim for damaged lamp stand and curio cabinet handle or delivery delay, just for missing items.

Maria started the process with Movingclaims. It was electronically sent. The form maybe works for a small claim but mine was a lengthy claim which I was unable to save as I spent 4 hours filling it out only to lose it. I tried numerous times to complete form but was never successful in sending it. I called Movingclaims phone number and went directly to the automated message, put on hold then disconnected after a 10-minute wait. This has happened to me every time I have called which is about 20 times. After contacting Maria, I finally got a hard copy mailed to me which I filled out and register mailed to Movingclaims so I have postal notification of receipt. I have not received any response to my follow-up emails or phone calls. I contacted Maria to confirm I had the correct email etc. So here I wait. No reimbursement or settlement just frustrations to say the least. Save yourself time and heartache and don’t use Direct Relocation Services.

To add to the mix, they also brought special wooden crates for added safety. I can’t express how relieved I was when I received my priceless possessions intact!
