Humana Medicare is NOT health insurance, it's coffin insurance. Rather than do what they're supposed to, they really hope you die trying. You'll waste days of your precious life getting them to cover what they're supposed to cover. They put me through hell to get G7 then would not even sell them to me at the covered price on their website. How they are able to legally do business in this country is beyond me.

I have Humana D. I have never in my life encountered a more inept billing department and customer service team. I have been with them for exactly three months, and each and very month I have to call multiple times to resolve the same issue repeatedly. They falsely claim in letters they send that they attempted to reach me. Then why do I have no missed calls on the dates they claim they called? They allege that my bank refused the debit, but my bank states this is not true, and that the payment was removed by Humana. They promise to fix issues and fail to do so.
I will never use them again, even though they are less expensive than other options. It is not worth the hassle of having to call repeatedly each month to address the same problems, only to find they are unresolved and have to call again. The billing is incompetent, customer service is incompetent, and they repeatedly mishandle my payments. The problems are at their end. I have never bounced a check in my life. I have more than enough money in the bank. The bank says they have no record of returning payments. Humana claims that is the issue my bank not them despite my bank having no record of what they claim. The problem lies with them, not with me. My advice is not to use this service if you ever encounter any billing problems; you will regret it.

This has to be the worst insurance out there! First they market one thing during open enrollment and even today, it hasn't changed on their formulary. They require a PA for drugs that you've been on for years and deny them! Their website shows it covered with no PA required yet they are requiring it. IF YOU HATE YOUR PLAN you have until MARCH 31st to change it! Just changed mine back after they continually deny items that should be covered. NEVER again will I even consider any HUMANA plan. They deserve ZERO STARS.

My wife's premium for 2023 was $77.30 per month or $927.60 per year. Her prescription costs totaled $92.60 at the end of November 2023. There was no change in December so the total for the year would be approximately $100.00. Humana paid nothing. Not one single penny. The CMS, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, state the average part D premium amount is $56.49 per month. Humana has changed her premium to $108.60 per month, a 40% increase for a total of $1,303.20 per year. I am sure we can expect Humana to pay nothing since the prescriptions have not changed. I have experienced close to the same treatment for my policy that has also been raised to $108.60 per month. We will now be paying $2,606.40 per year and for next to nothing. I should have been paying closer attention to what I was getting, and you should check every option before you deal with Humana. Big premiums and not much else is what you can expect.

Purchased Humana Advantage medical plan only to discover at my first instance Humana is the worst insurance organization I have ever encountered. Unacceptably low number of in-network doctors. They do not cover my very common cholesterol med. I attempted to cancel my coverage, they denied my request for a false reason. Had to file multiple complaints. Their customer service people are absolutely useless. Stay away from this company.

I moved from New York to Summerville, SC. When you move you have 3 months to change insurance plans. Let me state I am an insurance salesperson. I always had Blue Cross Blue Shield, my mistake I picked Humana PPO in SC. I have been on a medicine for 5 months and it is working well. Humana has denied this medicine on their plan abruptly because they do not like the code that has been given to them on the prescription. There is no other code unless the DR lies and he is not, nor do I expect him to.
I did check the medicine before I signed up for Humana Ins. It is covered, IF YOU HAVE THE CODE THEY WANT. That is not on the information list. This company is TERRIBLE, I have spent hours on the phone with MY Doctor, Insurance company, and the pharmacy to no avail. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. I will be changing in one month back to a BCBS plan. It should be against the law to stop a medicine in such a way as it hurts the person not the large company that does not care about its members. Besides all that, when you call Humana all they want you to do is leave a number so they can call you back. It takes 4 minutes at least to get someone on the phone. Then you can't understand them. I DO NOT RECOMMED THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE, THE COMMERCIALS ARE LIES, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR MEMBERS, ONLY THE DOLLARS.

I changed to Humana Health insurance instead of staying with Michigan Blue Cross Blue Shield. Biggest mistake of my life!! I was told I have durable hospital equipment coverage I’ve been fighting them for 5 months now to ge reimbursed for a hospital bed I need since I had my leg amputated. I pay $232.88 per month. $2328.30 is what I’m owed. I had a total of 14 surgeries in 6 months & had to get my leg removed. Every time I checked to see what I needed for this claim they would say I need something else. I’ve been fighting for my money for 5 months now! I’m going to contact my Attorney General’s office of Michigan & I’m going to get a patient advocate & fight this. DO NOT GET HUMANA! I’m going back to Blue Cross Blue Shield. I’m debating to get a lawyer for this. They are going to pay me or I see a lawyer.

My step dad passed away in Mazatlan Mexico. He had a Humana plan that covers out of country USA for the first two months. It was a horrible experience. He was in three different hospitals with emergency episodes. When I submitted my claims as representative of the estate, Humana said,, because the doctors didn't write the word "emergency" in their reports that the claim was denied. Initially I spoke with representative Meghanne J from the Dual's department who sold me the moon and told me what I wanted to hear. She said I had to submit my claims to the "Foreign Claims Department". There is NO foreign claims department!! At the end of our conversations, I was asked to leave a review. I left excellent reviews because I was lead to believe everything would be paid.
After 5 months of false hopes and promises I became frustrated. Upon expressing my frustration, I was no longer able to leave feedback!!! They had been stringing me along the whole time for the positive reviews!! I was expected to provide professional translations of the billing. Good luck with that. Humana is a multi billion dollar company and you mean to tell me that they don't have the software to do this? Then they wanted the codes that Mexico doesn't provide. All I got was the runaround. It's been almost a year and It is my opinion that this is a heartless company full of deceit. I have since signed up with Lakeside Medical Group in Mazatlan Mexico. It's free. Google that,, contact Lucia Lleras... Lakeside will NOT deal with Humana.

Humana says that they see us, but they certainly DO NOT make the process of filing a claim easy. After submitting a claim under my dental coverage, it took over two months to get them to respond. They ignored the claim and never contacted me to say they were ignoring it. It appears that there is a separate member ID number for dental versus medical, although they never sent me a new ID card or informed me that this was the case. Therefore my member ID did not match, so they just ignored it.
Finally after I took the initiative to find out what was going on and answered all their questions, the claim was approved and they sent that determination to the Dentist involved. Problem solved, so I thought – NOT! Over a month later I received a notice in the mail that the claim was being denied because I did not answer a question regarding whether this was a new service or a replacement service. I had answered that question when they originally approved the claim. I called and answered the question again and now I have waited over a week for them to notify the dentist. This is the worst approach I have encountered regarding bureaucratic processes that ignore customer care and concern.

I was attempting to get an estimated out of pocket cost on a surgical procedure and neither the provider nor Humana would provide. Ultimately, without knowing costs I did not schedule the eye surgery, which probably made Humana happy. I also tried to file a complaint about the provider, which Humana referred me to, only to be told the provider was right in not providing me with an estimated out of pocket cost.

This has to be the worst experience ever for me dealing with an insurance company. They never wanted to pay the bill. They had one story after another. The clinics were hospitals, the clinics used the wrong billing codes, then, Humana asked the clinic for their money back, and sent the bill to me, again. I'm still having to deal with them for a bill from last MAY, over 9 months ago. If anyone has fair dealings with this company - good for you. I don't know they show a rating like they do with Consumer Affairs when the other rating outlets show them at 1 star or less. I'd give them a zero star rating if possible. Just a nightmare, total nightmare.

I would like to say how can people afford their meds. I been on a medication for a year now. Now since Humana doesn't want to cover it I have to find another one that hopefully works. There is no help for people.
Reviewed Jan. 23, 2023
I selected this plan with the help of my insurance broker. It appeared that they covered most of the medications I take. However, they get VERY creative in finding ways to deny coverage. Even when I could get my doctors to jump through all the hoops they set up to discourage them. They want pre-authorization for a generic. They deny coverage for a medication that my doctor thinks will have better bioavailability for me. In short, despite my physicians spending YEARS in med school, the bean counters at Humana think they know better what is for me. But not really.
The bottom line is they aren't going to cover most things, so paying the premiums and making appeals is a waste of time and money. Try Mark Cuban's online pharmacy for prices that would beat what it would cost even if Humana DID step up and cover the cost as they are supposed to. It's basically a scam to collect your premiums and rarely to never cover medication costs. If I have to pay for RX coverage to avoid a penalty, there ARE less expensive companies (that may not cover your meds either) but at least your premiums won't cost as much.

Over the past few years the required transportation to or from a hospital or doctor's office did not materialize. I've had to postpone or cancel two surgeries, appointments, ... The reason? "We DON'T HAVE ANY DRIVERS IN YOUR AREA. UNTIL A PASSENGER IS BEING DELIVERED TO YOUR AREA, NO RIDE WILL BE AVAILABLE. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE." Yellow Cab also once did the same. At doctors' offices and hospitals they will call their own services "because the rides won't ignore us." Other than that, and the problems with CenterWell, Humana has done very well for me.

86 YO female sister with severe COPD developed pneumonia and was in the hospital for 2 weeks. After she no longer needed IV antibiotics or acute care, she was transferred to a Rehab Facility. She was unable to get out of bed alone, get to the bathroom alone, much less take care of her other needs. She was on oxygen 4L/min and had zero strength or stamina. She needed Physical Therapy in a big way for reconditioning as well as help with all other needs: bathing, dressing etc. Her Humana Advantage Plan denied her claim after only two days, this was appealed with much effort and time. They then gave her 5 more days.
The second appeal was denied and there was no other way to appeal. They just stopped paying! No physician that had examined her made this decision, only a physician employed by Humana! PLEASE, PLEASE NEVER hand over your Medicare Benefits to a managed care company. They pay for small things like office visits, medications etc. to suck you in but are famous, in the industry, for denying in patient care so desperately needed/indicated after a severe illness or injury. You are never aware of this until you need it.

Humana was acceptable in the past but lately they are intolerable. They pay less and charge more. Higher deductible and now they even to refuse to pay their portion of drugs they have paid for in the past. They won’t even accept my doctor sending them information on why I can’t take another drug on their preferred list. They even tried to get my doctor to prescribe a drug not FDA approved for my condition. They reject appeals for no reason. This behavior smacks of profit oriented vs. customer care. When open enrollment comes around, they are history. Avoid these guys!

I was told to go ahead and set up my online account, check around, look for physicians, etc. as soon as I received my paperwork. Coverage wouldn't begin until after my start date, but I could set up the online account. So when it came, that's exactly what I did. I was able to set up and go in and out of my account. I wasn't able to search for doctors or something else I can't remember what it was, but I was able to set up and get into my online account. Once the effective date came and passed, I couldn't access my online account any longer.
When I went to sign on then, like so many sites these days they have these games they play where you have to sign in and out of other accounts to prove who you are. Why even have passwords if you don't believe the person signing in is who they are? I played and kept entering what they sent me, checked and rechecked before entering, but it never worked. Then they locked my account. I have not been able to get into my online account.
I have tried almost every day to get into my account. Won't let me in. Since companies want to handle everything online these days, having Humana is worthless to me now. Unlike many people, I don't have to use Humana. If they don't fix the situation, I will muddle through until I can go to a new company (with a working website). I've heard, (can't verify) calling Humana is a huge waste of time, so if I have to make a call it will be to the new company.

– my pharmacy called and confirmed that number. When I went to get the refill, the cost was over twice what I had been quoted. After a long appeals process, they told me that they wouldn’t honor what I was quoted, even if they confirmed it by reviewing the call I referenced. I haven’t gotten the same information on any two calls and Humana won’t stand by their own quotes. There is no point in having a drug plan if every time you need a drug the price is decided by a virtual Roulette wheel. I can’t say that their competitors are any better, but I can confirm that this plan and the call center that support it are horrible.

I had a script filled and paid for Humana for a skin cream to treat a bad rash I had developed. The script specified ONE refill before 5/5/2022. I did NOT notice that, in ultra small print, "no refill BEFORE 3/3/2021." Well, the rash expanded a bit and I'm a big guy to begin with and it became clear to me, on 2/22/2021, that I was going to run out of ointment, so I contacted my pharmacy to get a refill. Humana denied the refill and I called them.
They were unmoved by the the facts, sticking to the claim that the 45 grams represented enough for a two-week treatment. I told them that this wasn't like a certain number of pills taken x per day that would be expected to last a specific length of time. This was a TOPICAL and how long it was going to last was dependent on some variables that didn't exactly translate to a predictable dose. And anyway, they'd've paid for the refill on 3/3/21, but not on 2/22/21. How does this make sense? I was unable to sway the person on the phone; her solution was, and I quote, "Maybe you should spread it a bit thinner." This after I waited 22 minutes on 2/24 to actually speak to a human. The fact that I would have been OKd for the refill ONE WEEK later was not sufficient to get them to budge.

Fair price. However, with virtually every prescription that is filled, the pharmacy reports an issue with the insurance company. Delays the prescription. Never experienced this before. A standard review by Humana can take up to 72 hrs and an emergency request 24 hrs. You may be out of your prescription but will have to wait on Humana’s approval. They frequently seem to need to contact your doctor for some reason which can add up to a 14 day delay. Benefit coverage seems to vary, a particular prescription of mine for a 30 day supply cost $47. A 90 day supply $33. I was told today ‘circumstances’ changed with 2021, but my renewal documents stated nothing about verification changes with doctors. A frequently prescribed blood pressure medication - why after years being prescribed this drug should Humana now have an issue? Coincidence they contacted me last week to seek an less expensive alternative to this drug, I don’t think so.

The insurance isn’t bad concerning some certain things but the more important medical problems that require surgery, is where things get a little unfair in my opinion. Major surgery, it would seem, would be covered a hundred percent, or at least most of it, but it isn’t. The part that consumers have to pay is outrageous.

Very discouraging when they don't pay a Doctor and you have to appeal to get it paid. It is more discouraging that the doctor's office didn't tell you that service was not covered by the insurance and run extra tests that are not covered. Then you have to pay money out of pocket that you don't have.
