My Amica experience: they suck! Here's why: First of all, they send you too much mail; you will see below why/how this becomes a problem. And their customer service is horrible... I was a relatively new Amica customer, and was set up w/ auto-pay of my premium on my credit card. Everything went fine, for a while. Someone got hold of my credit card number, so my credit card company had to close the account and sent me a new card. I called Amica and provided them with the new account details. The day before my payment was due, Amica ran a 'test' charge for $1 (as some companies do), to verify everything was in order. It was. The day my payment was due, they said they attempted the charge and it was not approved. They sent a notice by snail mail. Should I have seen it? Probably, but by this time I had started ignoring their mail because it was excessive and mostly meaningless.
They did NOT attempt to contact me by any other method, such as email or phone, despite the IMPORTANCE OF THIS ISSUE. At some point, I somehow realized they were not getting payments, and looked into it. My credit card company confirmed the $1 test charge, but said no other charge had been attempted by Amica. So, the best I can figure is that IF Amica really attempted the payment, someone screwed up at their end, maybe mis-entering the wrong account number or something, but they refused to admit they had done anything wrong. By the time this all got sorted out, my coverage had lapsed and they were telling me I owed a substantial balance to reinstate coverage! Except that we all know I didn't really HAVE coverage during that time, because if I had filed a claim, they would have denied it for non-payment of premium! Caused by them!
I thought about it, and decided not to reinstate because if they couldn't handle simple payments and notifications, what would it be like if I ever had an actual claim??? I went with them initially because they did have a lot of good reviews/comments online, but things seem to be changing. More recent comments/reviews are not so good, and that was definitely my experience. (Sorry for the long post, but I feel people need to know about Amica...)

I have never written a review for a company of which I am not a customer yet. But I want to share my experience in case you are shopping for a car insurance company that provides excellent claim services. My car (an old BMW) parked in the garage of a shopping mall was hit by a teenage driver who is a customer of Amica. First of all, Amica assigned a dedicated claim service representative (Megan). That's a big plus to me! Have you ever experienced talking to different customer service representatives and had to repeatedly tell your stories? Not the case here. Megan has always been responsive and resolved several issues professionally during the repair process that lasted almost 30 days. For example, when a used part could not be found within a reasonable time frame, Megan immediately approved a new part. I am with another insurance company right now. Will I consider Amica when I renew my insurance? Yes!

Hi Wayne. Thank you for your kind review! Customer service is our top priority, so we're thrilled to hear that you feel this way. We hope you have an excellent day!

One of their insured struck my wife’s vehicle while driving way too fast through a parking lot. My wife was backing out in the opposite direction of the Amica driver who was traveling forward. The Amica driver could clearly see my wife’s car but since they were driving way too fast they were unable to stop in time. It is obvious to me and to all those I have spoken to regarding the incident who was at fault, yet Amica is denying liability so I am out a $500 deductible. I am the sole provider for my family and $500 is a substantial amount of money for us to have to pay out of pocket. It seems to me that Amica is just your typical insurer who denies legitimate claims and is more concerned about their bottom line than they are about doing the right thing.

Amica has been a long standing Insurance company who always did right by their policyholders... until they branched out from their home state in particular, into Maine. Maine Amica’s employees lack the integrity and professionalism that it has in other states. It may be the lack of social skills and social interaction and social inadequacy that makes them insensitive and pushy and bullying here in Maine but that’s no excuse for bad treatment and disrespect of its policy holders, those policy holders are paying their salaries, I do believe Maine Amica needs to be educated in common courtesy and reminded of who they work for. Disappointing to watch a once honorable company go downhill simply because of the mentality or lack of, of the employees in one state.

I would give zero stars if I could. Let's sum up my experience by saying I made a claim on my auto policy. It has been 2 months and the claim is still open. The representatives are very unresponsive, just the worst customer service ever. I am not someone who writes reviews, I usually just go away - but this company is downright wrong.

It baffles me how reps get nasty or haughty. This happened to me on 10/19/2019. Called to change insurance (my decision) and got this awful rep.; told me several blatant lies: It was 4:00 and there were no supervisors there to document a "letter of experience" - it wasn't even 4 o'clock yet. She would submit request and someone hopefully, would get to it on the next business day. A 'letter of experience" take time.
I listened to her babble and then called back. I was connected to Ron **. He was polite and exceptionally well versed while in conversation with me. His knowledge of my situation was above reproach and greatly needed at this time. He accomplished the task at hand and my letter was emailed within 15 minutes. This young man is an primary example of what customer service should be; I'm overjoyed and relieved to know that there are reps, that not only know their job but take pride in what they do. My hat is off to Ron **!!!!

After a great decade with Amica, things got really bad this. For years I have had good home and auto insurance, good customer care, and good rates. In December 2018 they doubled the rates, so I went shopping elsewhere for home insurance. It was hard to leave, but I had no choice. Then in the summer of 2019, my car insurance payment lapsed because the card on line had expired, so they canceled the car insurance without talking to me. So I went to the new home insurance company for auto. In November 2019 I received letters from a debt collector for the auto insurance payments!! Wow. What a change in relationship! Amica isn’t the company it was 10 years. ago.

I was run off a busy interstate road during heavy rush hour traffic. I have paid my monthly premiums on time for over 30 years. When I called for roadside assistance (another service I pay for) I was informed I should have called 911. In asking for assistance I was transferred to a claims adjuster. Mind you, I’m sitting in a left hand lane, flat tire and an undetermined amount of possible under carriage damage. The claims adjuster verifies pertinent info but proceeds to update my profile info while I’m in total distress in a left hand lane on a busy highway. I need help!! I’m not sitting comfortably at my kitchen table updating my profile!
Thanks to Florida DOT and Highway patrol, my tire is changed and I’m escorted off the interstate to a tire dealer. Otherwise I would still be sitting in the left hand lane in distress trying to answer questions such as do I need a tire change or a tow truck. How could I possibly know! I’m thrown off the road by another car and I’ll I know is I hear a loud pop and thank God I made it to a safe stop! Then I’m turned over to a claims adjuster who is obviously sitting comfortably while I answer a plethora of profile update questions. After 30 plus years....I’m done!!!!

I came to Amica looking for car insurance. I've had a checkered recent driving history with 3 accident claims in the past 3 years, but I filled all of that information in during the process and they still gave me an amazing quote, far better than any other insurer so far. I just had to call the number to purchase what I thought was an amazing deal.
But when I called the number, the guy I spoke to ran my information and then told me that they couldn't even offer me insurance because of the 3 accidents on my record. WHY DIDN'T IT FLAT DENY ME ONLINE WHEN I PUT IN THE ACCIDENTS IN THE FIRST PLACE? This feels like a classic bait and switch and they just completely wasted my time. I will never even attempt to use this company again in the future. I'd give zero stars if I could.

Clark Howard recommended Amica so I tried them a few times over the past 15 years. First year it would be OK and then you get hit with ridiculous price increases. Just to give a background, I have had Auto insurance for 22 years (with various providers) and not a single claim. Had Home insurance for 15 years (with various providers) and not a single claim. Rental property insurance for 3 years and not a single claim. Last year my Primary Home insurance with Amica is $1900 and when it came to renewal time, it jumped to $3k plus (about 52% increase). Same with the rental property (30% increase). No justification, nothing. We are doing it so we can.
So finally I've decided to switch to another company, before Amica Renewal comes up, where they are covering my Home, Rental Property and Auto for the same amount that Amica is charging for 1 home. Essentially I am saving over $2k just for staying away from Amica. Thank you Amica for finally forcing me to shop around and find someone who cares about the customer.

That ended the conversation. Makes you wonder what their agenda is.

She hasn't lived with us for 5 years and hasn't owned a vehicle in over a year. I was told I had to prove a negative by providing proof of her being insured with another company and provide proof of her residence in another state. I provided both and was told it is under review. When I called again to ask what they needed to review and why they conveniently got disconnected. I'm done.

After threatening Amica in going public with this issue, I finally got the attention of a rep who helped me get the issue resolved. AMICA is a little known strictly an online insurance company. "Consumer Reports "consistently rates AMICA number one or number two in the Country. I've been a client for over ten years and have founds their rates extremely competitive, their Customer Service beyond reproach, and their various coverages extensive. One caution though, when I first applied they were very careful to see if I qualified for their policies. In other words, they maintain such good rates and outstanding service by carefully selecting who they will or will not insure.

I have been a long term Amica customer (8+ years) and have enjoyed excellent customer service when needing towing or roadside assistance. However, I am finding it difficult to get a firm price on a renewal premium. I was recently quoted a monthly price of approximately $133/month by an account rep for Amica. However, on-line there is a quote of $740. Is that a 6 month rate or a 12 month rate? Also, there are a number of discounts that I have not received on my policy. I don't have confidence in Amica's pricing on their insurance and while I still believe it to be an excellent company, I am retired and currently living on a very tiny fixed income. Therefore, I am looking around for cheaper quotes from other insurance companies. I would like to discuss how I can get a better rate on my insurance because the price is out of control.

Amica made a mistake by providing a lower quote than intended for what I asked for. I only agreed to the lower quote which I thought was fair. The next day I check my premium and it's an extra $100 more than discussed. I called several times to correct the issue and even the original representative admitted it was incorrect and should not be up there but every time I asked it to be corrected no one would. Their exact words were "The quote is the quote and you'll have to pay it". They refused to honor the mistake they made in the original lower quote and claimed they would review the call which proved twice the original rep admitting it should be removed. They never responded to me so I decided to take my business elsewhere. Amica has horrible customer service and they just want their money. Cheaper isn't always better. Their top ranking as an insurance company excludes customer service.

We cancelled our Amica Auto and Renters insurance due to our premium going through the roof and was told by the customer service agent that no money would be taken out of our bank account for a premium payment because we cancelled. We are an auto payment plan. The long and short of it was the customer service agent did not know what she was talking about because, sure enough, Amica withdrew the full amount of premiums for policies we no longer had. We had to call numerous times to discover that they were sending us refunds on the policies after the fact of the withdrawals. This is no way to do ethical business. Amica could have billed us for the balance of policies and been up front. Up to the point of cancellation, we had been with Amica for a good number of years and now, quite frankly we would never go back based on the lousy customer service we received trying to cancel our policies.

Received an advertisement in my email from Amica stating "Switch to Amica and you could save an average of $596!" And seeing how I was in the market for a cheaper insurance I gave it a try. Oh my God, I could not believe the quote they came up with. It was $2,697 for 6 months, with a $1000 deductible, that is $5,394 a year on a 2008 Ford Edge that is paid for. I was so blown I had to speak with an online representative to express my feelings. I have been with GEICO for 11 years, my payments are $505 for 6 months with a $250 deductible, that is $1,010 a year. I needed them to explain to me how they came up with that number. Needless to say, they couldn't. All I can say is buyer beware, especially after reading these reviews.

All of a sudden I get a letter in the mail that my policy is being dropped, not because I have any accident claims, but because I used the road side assistance 5 times in 3 years. I have had Amica for almost a year. I thought they were doing good. I paid my monthly premium and was never late not that matters any way. I had a very bad home invasion where everything in my home was taken of value. The insurance adjuster who came was very nice but asked a lot of questions like for example how I paid for any of my belongings I had and the stuff that was stolen. I don’t know why though because I know what I had and I paid for my stuff. Anyway as the claim process goes I had to speak to a claims specialist. I have never done such before. The person I spoke to name Tamara was beyond rude right from the beginning. Not to mention I’m still very shaken about what happened to me and my home.
Well it’s been nearly 2 months still my claim isn’t resolved and is open. Nobody returns my calls nor reach out to me except to have a this meeting called a sworn statement. Now I assume they are making accusations like I didn’t have my items or something. They made me bring my bank statements, tax returns, even my mom’s obituary which I haven’t looked at since the funeral. I was asked a lot of questions that made me feel like dirt. Then the man asked to play with my phone and log into my Apple account on his computer for some reason then he asked questions about my family and their finances like they’re the ones who got robbed. This is one of the worst experiences I ever encountered.
All of this horrible treatment and for what? Then I found out the adjuster who came to my home took pictures of me after I told him not to. I saw them when I met to do the sworn statement that was being recorded and this process was 4 hours long. Questions after questions and invading my privacy all in my phone and I seriously believe this was because of my race and the adjuster took my picture on purpose to show my race all in the beginning. Run. This company is not a fair place of business. Don’t trust them. Oh and after the man played with my phone it never worked properly again. I had to get another so I don’t know what he did but it’s on tape. They can see what he did but I don’t know. You have been warned!

I’ve been with Amica before for years and was really happy to be on board with them again. The policy offerings are pretty solid and I have a good friend in the insurance industry who had a not at fault accident with them years ago and they went above and beyond for her to make it stress free by taking control of the claim and increasing her rental allowance. I don’t shop insurance on price first, its claims handling first then the most competitively priced in that same category second. I carry $500k CSL which is higher than average and was planning on purchasing an Umbrella. Things were good until recently when I traded in my Volvo for a newer Audi that was purchased for $22k, not an expensive car.
I called Amica a couple of days before making the purchase and provided all the details so that I could find out how it would impact my premium. I was told the impact was going to be about $20 a month or just over $200 annually. That sounded right to me. I previously went from a Toyota Corolla to the Volvo S60 and that was about the difference. I purchase the vehicle and two weeks later, while sitting at a complete rested stop at a traffic light, a young gentleman rear ends me having been distracted and not realizing traffic was stopped. I still have dealer tags on my car, so I take a deep breath as I collect myself. It took a few minutes to pull over so that we could exchange information.
My car being under warranty I call Audi manufacturer line to find out what they recommend in order to ensure the work doesn’t void my warranty and where to go to get the car fixed by their standards. They were awesome! Next, I decide that I really preferred to file under my own policy because I’ve read it front to finish and I’m with Amica for exactly the moment I was in. I have a fairly new car that I just bought, under warranty and I wanted to know I could take it to the right repair shop and have new parts, not used placed into the vehicle. I was hit pretty hard and the car was almost totaled. I felt confident that Amica would live up to the terms of their policy, act in good faith and really get the job done.
I was wrong. They really didn’t want to take control of the claim and tried to pursued me against it. I was confused, told them I would pay the deductible, even if I didn’t get it back (they were saying that was likely) because I wanted my car repaired correctly. This is the worst time to be in an accident and I want the least stressful path forward. I just bought this car and don’t even have the plates yet. Car buying is stressful enough, now this. They were making it sound like Geico was going to try and skirt liability. The kid who hit me was very cooperative so I didn’t think we would have a problem. I called Geico to let them know I needed them to expedite the process as I was wanting to file through my insurer and subrogate. It was a very straightforward case, Geico accepted 100% fault within hours but I then had to get Amica to come to terms with that and pick up the sticks.
Basically the collision shop, Audi and Geico helped me navigate that, getting Amica to accept first party and kick into gear because Amica didn’t want to do it. From there they (Amica) became very adversarial with me, not wanting to help, ignoring my concern about my neck pain, time off work 1 day. They only actually believed me a little on the neck pain after getting the rundown on the damages to me car. They were still the opposite of helpful. My claims adjuster left me an annoyed voicemail about the Audi tech being out sick for 5 days and my refusing to let them 3rd party the major body work on my car to a mechanic that didn’t usually work on Audi’s. I only found out after he was out for 3 days and felt justified in my refusal. She told me I would be responsible out of pocket for the rental car expenditures and anything over.
I work in insurance so I know ultimately how most of this works and knew that thing were out of whack by this point with Amica. I would have been treated much more fairly if I would have gone through Geico as the not at fault party. Instead Amica was treating me exactly as I feared Geico would have. They were treating me like I was not their insured and like I was at fault. So weird!!!! So at this point I have to ask Geico for help. They are the one on the hook for the payout so I let them know about the mechanic and ask them if they are going to give me the business on my out of pocket rental expense seeing as I did delay the repairs by at least 2 days for when the mechanic was out and then maybe some more since they were backed up.
Geico spent a lot of time and care helping me understand the subrogation process and who pays what. They told me the repair shop was ongoing to end up paying for the rental costs for those days I mentioned if it goes over the max they are required to pay by state law. I’m only responsible for anything over 30 days that they actually worked in my car, those 5 days don’t count. I felt so much better. Geico called the shop and my car amazingly was done by the estimated date which was 3-4 weeks. Next big mess up for Amica - I go to pick up my car and I have to pay $1,000 deductible. What? I did all the work for them to get Geico to accept liability in order to not owe my deductible. I have a line of people trying to pick up their car so I just pay it.
Amica admitted that it should have been paid either to me or the shop and they dropped the ball. The eventually EFT me the money. Thank goodness I’m not living paycheck to paycheck. It’s one thing when you know you owe a deductible and another when you were assured that you wouldn’t. Finally with Amica - my insurance has gone up almost $1k annually just because I bought this new car and it’s 5 times the amount they told me when I was crunching the numbers to purchase it. The difference in value between the cars is less than $10k more than the one it was replacing. They told me this is because of how expensive Audi’s are to repair and how long it takes to repair them, BS. They are that but Volvo’s are just as bad.
I was led to believe that Amica is more than comfortable insuring people in the mid to high income bracket so this just doesn’t make sense. They had already hinted at a large rate increase due to the not at fault accident which isn’t legal in Texas but they said rates were just going up. So I get my first EFT since purchasing the vehicle and my monthly payment increased by $73 that’s almost a 50% increase in premium when I have a fairly good driving record, credit and honest dealing on my end. I just want to know what they will do to improve their standards so this doesn’t happen to the next person in my situation. Your claims handling is your product and you shouldn’t treat your insureds like the enemy for loving you so much that they want you to handle the claim.
The one thing Amica certainly didn’t do was handle my claim. I did by fiercely advocating for myself at every turn with the repair shop and Geico ultimately came through and provided me peace of mind that they weren’t going to give us a hard time on the subrogation payments. They use the same shop and repairs and handling were reasonable. They put the repair shop in their place when Amica wouldn’t. Then Amica came in and adjusted up my rate midterm with the excuse that my car is difficult to repair. They were held to the terms of their policy, they had to allow me certain parts and certified Audi repairs but they fought me at every chance.

I started insuring with Amica in 1980 and accepted their consistently higher prices in return for what was definitely better service and courteous, personal service. But Amica seems to be slipping - for example they treated me like a completely new customer when moving from one state to another, requiring a credit report - even though I pay by bank transfer. They failed to collect premiums on one of our rental properties, with a mailed threat of policy termination rather than a phone call; they put the wrong address on forms for landlords policies; and new matters have gone without a response, requiring a call to re-state the original request, among others.
Currently I am in a discussion with John, a manager of theirs who claims Amica "never received" a form I returned in 2013 to obtain an alarm system discount - the manager tried to breeze past my concern about credit for prior years and I have a sinking feeling that despite Amica's recent mistakes, they will claim it was mine. I really want to remain a customer of Amica, there is still a lot they do right. Let's see how they resolve the current matter, I will report back here. And lesson learned: Keep copies of EVERYTHING you send them.

I recently quoted insurance w/ Amica. They found one accident where my insurance company found I was not at fault. A comprehensive claim from an accident with a deer. They told me that due to these two, I was higher risk. The rates they quoted higher and limited property damage coverage and medical as well. I don't see much to like about this insurance company. Their dollar limit for a "chargeable" accident is only $500 vs Nationwide @ $1800 whether it's your fault or not. I was looking at moving my cars and house over. I can't imagine the hassle if I actually had a claim. No thank you!

A car (insured by Amica Mutual) hit my car as they did not stop at the stop sign. It was the other driver's fault. I contacted Amica mutual and opened a claim. They came in and estimated the car as total loss. It took few weeks and then offered a very low amount (1980$ for a total loss of a Camry 2005). I talked over the phone to discuss the amount they are offering and the agent advised me to collect proof of all the work I have done in the past 12 months and to do a survey of all the similar cars in the market. I spent over 6 hours to prepare all the documents. The survey of nearby cars took a long time as I had to put together a description of each car I find along with the price and a link to the page. The lowest price I found in the market was 5000$ (out of 11 surveyed cars- which is all I could find).
After three weeks of sending the documents, the agent got back to me and offered an extra 100$ on the top of the price that she initially offered (now offering 2080). They really have no respect for my time and efforts. On the top of that, the agent did not inform me regarding the date I need to return the rental car. I found out later that I am past due and I had to pay out of my pocket. I just hired an attorney to take care of this as the stress they added to my life is unbearable. I would never recommend them to anybody. Really really terrible customer service.

If I could give them no stars, I would! I got into a car accident back in December of 2018 and the claim is STILL open! Not only was this accident not my fault according to the other driver's CONFESSION and the fact that it was written in black and white on the police report but Amica went from being on my side to being totally against me. I was told they were going to go after the other driver's insurance and get a refund for the money paid out to fix the damage on my car. A week later they totally switched side and went in favor of the man who was swerving in and out of lanes and rammed into the front of my car. I was totally liable even though I was in the lane I was supposed to be and he couldn't decide where the heck he wanted to go. They even told me that even if the guy was intoxicated that I would've still been liable. GOOD COMPANY RIGHT?? He probably was drunk and they still won't let me appeal it.
Now, this jerk decided to go after my insurance for a quick payout and Amica keeps giving him more and more money! The guy had NO damage to his car in the first place, now he's pocketing my insurance money and Amica is happily giving him the money. Oh, and his claim has been closed for weeks but they just keep sending him checks! Please do not look into Amica no matter how cheap they are. Pay the money and go with a company that will have your back. I'm VERY disappointed in this company, I've been a customer for 3 years and I will absolutely not be renewing with them anymore!

Horrible. Don't believe the "we're #1 in customer service" hype. After spending hours on the phone, working through false statements by their agents (like a false claim I'd get a 3 year auto policy tenure credit, when another agent later said I won't), I was ready to give them the business. Then, at the very last minute before my house closing, they claimed I had pets (I don't) and wouldn't issue the policy. I almost lost my new home. I tried to offer a sworn affidavit that I don't have pets, or some other way to resolve it, but they wouldn't budge. It probably started off with some innocent lost in translation problem, but their bone-headedness afterwards was inexcusable, particularly for a company that thinks so highly of themselves regarding service. I will encourage everyone I can to avoid Amica.

I had read on several sites that Amica was considered top rated for homeowners or renters insurance. I called to get a quote. The person on the phone, Tracy (she refused to give me her last name for obvious reasons after you read this), was beyond unfriendly and the entire time acted like I was putting her out for asking for a quote. Then to top it off, she started asking the most insane questions that no other renter’s insurance company has ever asked me in my 43 years. Incessant questions about the property and what’s on the property.
#1 I don’t own this property, I’m renting it, so I don’t have answers about the details of its construction and maintenance or even neighborhood features since I just moved here. #2 She then proceeded to tell me that since we had had a homeowner’s claim on our previous home that we owned from a sewage back up, we would most likely be denied. I said, I’ve already called numerous other insurance companies and not a single one said that even after seeing and knowing about the claim. I said, "How can you deny us? We didn’t build the faulty piping, we didn’t hire that awful contractor (the insurance company did) so all the work had to be redone, that was on them, yet you are going to discriminate against us for something that categorically in every way shape or form was not our fault?"
"So if we were in a hurricane flood or a tornado loss or a gas leak fire, all of which would also have nothing to do with us, you would deny us under those circumstances?" Insurance companies may charge higher rates but they don’t deny. They would never be in business if they denied every person with a past claim. She said insurance is a risk business and we’re too high of a risk. Hmmm, Progressive, Geico, Nationwide, and Travelers didn’t seem to think so, She said she would run it by the underwriter and call me tomorrow. Hahahaha. Guess what, no phone call, especially after I asked her name at the end of one of the most disrespectful and insulting conversations I’ve ever had with a salesperson. Good luck getting and keeping customers with yahoos like that on your staff. Thanks Amica, for the glorious education in just how much your company has ZERO integrity in all realms.

I first came to Amica due to recommendations from Clark Howard's website. They offered a VERY attractive annual premium on my auto and the sales lady said I would receive a 20% dividend at the end of the year - more on this later. Anyways, life was good until the term renewal came along. Just like another reviewer here, Mike, I had the same exact experience. Also the dividend was NOT 20% and was only 10%. HALF of what I was promised.
I have maintained an excellent driving record along with my wife and paid all my bills on time to maintain good credit. When I inquired on the increase, they said it was because of all the CLAIMS. I didn't have ANY claims. So just as another reviewer mentioned AMICA will penalize you for OTHER'S claims and not reward you for not having claims, not accruing traffic violations. Bottom line - they will price gouge you. My policy this term for Auto is going up about from annual $4200 to $2800 billed twice a year - so $5600. I am furious and will find other options. AVOID this customer at all costs - and I mean literally.

I have been a customer of Amica for over 40 years; first auto insurance when I was 16 on my father's policy (who is also very satisfied lifelong customer). Then after college (I’m a Registered Nurse) I purchased my own policy... First for auto and in 1992 home and auto bundle. The company has always been excellent in every area; customer service, premiums are very reasonable, never felt as though I was being mistreated when filing a claim (in fact just as friendly and considerate when I had to file a claim as when I’m making a payment). I can’t understand all the negative reviews. My house was damaged by fire and heavy soot. Where most companies would have tried to pay to remove soot Amica realized it would have been a terrible house to live in and have been VERY generous in their damage estimates.
This is ongoing now and because there was nothing available to rent long term they are paying for me to live ON THE BEACH! The customer service is amazing. They actually have trouble reaching me at times but are very diligent. Money deposited into my account very quickly and within 2 days if the incident I had 10000 for any incidentals. In fact until I got into condo they paid for hotel and offered to pay for food since there wasn’t a full kitchen. I actually felt guilty and bought my own food. They have given an incredibly generous allowance for me to live while house is built.
To top things off 2 months ago I hit 4 deer and Amica didn’t blink an eye or raise my premium after paying out additional >$3000. Don ** is my General Property Adjuster and was my initial personal representative after the fire. From then until now he has been both professional and kind. During this difficult time I also lost my husband and at the risk of sounding dramatic he and Carla ** were a beam of light going above and beyond, showing kindness as not only employees but people who really care. (As well as everyone I have dealt with.) Were I not a nurse I would love the opportunity to work with this company!
The only possible reason I can come up with for all the negative reviews is that it is human nature to vent about our bad experiences. I noticed after each negative a representative from Amica reached out and I’d be willing to bet there was a resolution afterward... Too bad follow-ups aren’t seen. My email is **. If anyone doubts the validity of this review! Oh... Almost forgot; Amica works with Enservio as well as a company who helps in finding housing and they were amazing as well!

My wife is now 5 hours into the event and it is not nearly over. She had a blowout and it took two hours for the truck to come. Amica said they would have it towed to Pep Boys who would fix it. The tow truck took her to Pep Boys which was CLOSED...not open as Amica said. The truck left her there and my wife has been on the phone for quite a while. The third person at Amica, a supervisor, is trying to find someplace open (at midnight now) and will have it towed there. If not they will tow it to someplace that will be open tomorrow and pay for a hotel tonight. (Which we do appreciate as otherwise she would have to sleep in the car at the repair shop until 7:00 am.)
There seems to be some training problems. One person did not know that the shop would be closed and another did not know how to handle the situation next. It took a manager to get it sorted out...assuming that it WILL be sorted out. We will still have to wait two hours for a tow truck to know how it works out tonight. This is my first call to Amica and I have to say that I'm not impressed. Let's see how the rest of the night goes.

I filed a claim with Amica who promptly sent an adjuster while the work was being done. The adjuster explained they limit their liability is $10,000 for rot. I received the check fairly quickly. This left me with $17,000 unplanned expenses to cover. So I would tell anybody to be careful of the limitations of the policy.

I originally contacted Amica for a homeowner's policy. While on the phone with the representative, we discussed the benefits of a multi-policy rate (auto & home). The quote for auto was slightly higher than my current insurance (Amica $148 mo vs. Geico $122 mo), however, I was okay with the increase because I was still saving with my homeowner's policy. I provided all vehicle VINs and was given an annual premium for around $1,800 at $148 a month. She advised me that I needed to pay a down payment (first and last month) of $296 to activate the policy. I made the down payment and thought I was all set. Several weeks later I received a call and was advised that I needed to pay additional down payment and my rate was now $2,600!
I am currently waiting to hear back with a resolution. I have spoken to several representatives whom just direct me to someone else. FED UP. Once an award winning company Amica is a BLOATED SHELL of its former self. They fish out Customer service and the Towing service to other companies now. I've been a paying client for over a decade. After an accident this past fall they REMOVED our towing and labor coverage, and then NEGLECTED to let us know. This after the agent handling the accident assured us our policy would NOT change. Well it sure did. Sure as Murphy's Law I was stranded with a dead battery a couple of months later in the dead of winter. THEY REFUSED my service unless I paid this 3rd party company for the tow!! When I told them I am covered that is when they informed me know that our towing and labor coverage was removed!!!
Long story short we were stranded for hours until someone we knew was able to get us off the side of the road. Now we've used the service several times each year but if you offer the service and do not allow your clients to use the service -- WHY WOULD YOU OFFER IT!?!? That's BAIT AND SWITCH!!! This company has let greed and apathy (lack of interest, enthusiasm, and concern) become the STANDARD mode of doing business. Several months later, NO RESOLUTION.
As one of their reps conceded on the phone, "It's a numbers game." When I responded "I feel they are treating us like crooks" He responded with "I have Progressive, I recommend you try there if customer service matters to you, And they have better pricing." And that is the only bit of service that I've received from Amica in 2019 that I will take. WE ARE DONE WITH AMICA and their greed! We are looking elsewhere for a company that delivers a better service for a better price.

Suddenly the representative informs me, that our driving record does not fit to Amica policy and they would not be able to provide insurance. My husband and I have three cars covered; we are good driving records, filed no claims and drive less than 10K miles total.
I called Amica to find out why the premium increased $500. It was difficult to get someone in the state of CA on the phone. I waited almost three days. The person I spoke to had no clue why the policy increased other than the rate (not set by Amica) for one of the cars increased by $50. I get nominal rate increases but over $500 in 1 year is ridiculous. Underwriting should review their renewals for drivers with good driving records, no claims and multiple policies. I will be leaving Amica and moving all three policies for bad underwriting, expensive policies for good customers and their inability to explain premium increases.

My policy with Amica was the only experience I've had with renters insurance. I don't know if my being a new policyholder has had anything to do with how things have happened... Although I guess really that shouldn't matter. I made a claim on my renter's insurance policy for theft. It occurred on Sunday December 23rd 2018, just before Christmas. I have course called the police, made a report and notified Amica a few hours later. The following morning I received an email confirming that they had received my claim, but then was unable to reach anyone or get a reply from anyone for close to a week following.
The following Monday, in response to several emails and messages sent through their claims portal online, I did receive an email stating that an adjuster would be contacting me to set an appointment to come to the house. I spoke with the adjuster later that afternoon and we made an appointment for Wednesday January 2nd 2019. I guess I was anticipating someone coming and going over what had happened, taking a look at things and that would be the end of the claim, it would be taken care of and be resolved. It turned out to be a recorded interview and I was asked a lot of very specific questions about my children, their father, what my income was last year and whether I had ever had a car repossessed or a home foreclosed on. By the time it was done it felt much more like a recorded investigation.
I had thought in reviewing the coverage after this happened that I had a policy that provided replacement coverage. For each item that was on my property list that I turned in to Amica I needed to provide the date each item was purchased and what the age of the item was at the time of the incident. Never having made an insurance claim before I was unsure exactly what would be needed so I tried to leave things as they were in the area where this happened until someone could come to the house and do what they needed to do.
During this time I could not completely shut or lock my back door. I had made Amica aware of this. It took a week and a half for them to send someone out. If I had known a week and a half ago that I was going to have to pay to replace the back door and put a new lock on I would have just went ahead and done it and not had to worry about a door to the house being unlocked.
At this point I don't know what is going on or what to expect. I am guessing, would hope, that this is not standard for Amica customer service. When I was dealing with the representative that sold me the renter's insurance policy he was telling me about all of the Superior Services that Amica had to offer and how well, and quickly, they react to the needs of a policyholder. Unfortunately it just has not been my experience. My first experience with having renter's insurance coverage or dealing with a company for renter's insurance has not been a good one.

I was informed by Amica that California has a new law which states if you do not return a form to them, they by law have to match your insuranced motorists coverage to your uninsured motorists coverage without your permission. As they told me on several calls, they can’t do anything because it’s a new law. We didn’t want to change anything about our coverage so we never returned the form because we wanted it to stay the same. For the past 3 months we’ve been getting overcharged by almost a $100 a month, because they matched our high insured coverage to our not as high uninsured motorists coverage. I was told they are not going to return any of the extra money I was charged without my permission due to this new law.
After calling the California Department of Insurance and finding out through them that no such law exists, they told me to go to their website and file a complaint because they are breaking the law. Here is the link to file your complaint: **. They need to reimburse all of us for their ridiculous mistake that the company has been greatly profiting on illegally. I highly suggest anyone else that has been getting overcharged to go on that website and file your complaint because this is wrong. And by the way we’ve been with this company for years and we’ve been very happy and I completely trusted them and I believed what they told me about this “New” California law until I spoke to several friends about it and then I decided to call the Department of California Insurance to find out they are 100% wrong. I wish I knew how to respond to the postings on this page but I can’t figure it out. So I hope you all get a chance to read this. Good luck!

Despite not having submitted a single claim (other than very infrequent windshield replacement), nor any moving violations or other negative marks, Amica has consistently raised our Auto Insurance rates by $400 annually. There are only 2 drivers - my spouse and I, on 2 vehicles - both purchased new in 2014. In 2018-Dec, we were notified that Amica is switching us from a 12-month policy to a 6-month policy. This decision offers the policyholder NOTHING but gives a great advantage to Amica to revisit rates 2x per year. After being a loyal customer for 10+ years, I can no longer afford to insure with Amica and am seeking new coverage elsewhere.

I am a customer of Amica. I purchased a used pick up truck on 11/17/18. After completing all the paperwork I contacted Amica again to make sure they provided coverage on my "new" truck.” I write "again" because I called & spoke with one of their reps prior to purchasing to see what I needed to do to make sure I had coverage when I left the lot. I spoke to R. ** & he informed me that the dealership needed to provide a bill of sale OR sales window sticker before they would issue me an insurance card & provide coverage. He explained to me that if we didn't do this we would have had to have the vehicle inspected. Since we provided the info he released the cards & informed me we were good to go & were all set. FYI, the dealership would also not allow me to leave without the insurance card to show my coverage so obviously this was very important.
The dealership immediately emailed the bill of sale to R ** & he responded with emailing back the insurance card/cards to the dealership who then handed them to me. Fast forward to 12/6/18 I received a certified letter from Amica reading that they had suspended my "physical damage coverage" & that I was no longer insured for physical damage to my ("your") car. The letter went on to read that "The coverage will be restored when your vehicle has been inspected." Imagine my surprise to receive this letter since I was told by R ** on 11/17 that I was "good to go", that my premium would increase a bit, which I understood, & I would receive an email stating the additional amount due in a couple of weeks. I have since received that email.
I called Amica on 12/8 & spoke to William ** & explained how I had received the letter. I also explained to him that I was frustrated & upset to receive the letter after I had been told the above info from R **. He informed me that there was no record of anyone receiving any of this information but that if I could send him the bill of sale this would waive the "suspension". On the same day, 12/8 I emailed William ** the "Retail Installment Sale Contract" which I was told was not what he was looking for. I told him all of the paperwork I had from the transaction & he wrote I could send him a "BOC" or the window sticker & this would take care of what they needed. I asked what a BOC was & he said a bill of sale.
Since I didn't have anything that read "bill of sale" I went to the dealership the next day (12/9), which I shouldn't have had to do since I already was told this was taken care of, to get a copy of what was sent on 11/17 to R ** originally. The dealership rep remembered me & what they had to do for Amica because they claimed they never had to do this with any other insurance company even though it had been more than 3-weeks since I was there. They pulled up the email & printed out the bill of sale which I then emailed to William ** on 12/8 at 4:45pm. By the way, the "bill of sale" they printed & said they emailed was a form I did have called a "Buyers Order Agreement". Not sure where the BOC comes from but anyway...this is the same form which R ** responded was what he was looking for on 11/17 so he could release the insurance cards.
This was when I spoke to him on the phone at the dealership to make sure it was what he was looking for from us. William ** finally responded to me 2-days later on 12/10 at 5:58pm to ask me to forward him the response email from R ** from 11/17. Instead of telling me he received the bill of sale from me, that everything was good & that my insurance was no longer suspended by them, he wanted a copy of the email response from R **? Here I am with what they're telling me is suspended coverage when I need to drive my vehicle! He's more interested in receiving a forwarded email from one of his cohorts!!! I need to know my insurance coverage is reinstated!!!
On 12/11 8:14am I forwarded William ** the email response to me from R ** that contained the insurance cards, which I had already received from him through the dealership when I went back there to talk to them about this whole episode. Yesterday, 12/12 at 9:12am I gain sent another email to William ** to say that now that I have sent the bill of sale am I all set (again???)? As of this time I still have not received confirmation from William **, or ANY Amica rep for that matter, that I again have full coverage!!! I would venture to say stay away from Amica if this is how they treat their "customers". I'm at a loss as to what to do at this point other than write this review to alert others.

I am an AMICA auto policy holder. I recently had an accident which was not my fault. AMICA covered the claim under my uninsured motorist coverage. The repairs were over $19,000. After the car was repaired I got an appraisal from a certified auto appraiser who stated the "diminished value" cost on my car was $8,000 because it had such a large repair bill and folks would pay less for my car now because of it. AMICA offered me $2300 without ever hiring an appraiser but by using some ridiculous and illegal method whereby they used a formula to come up with the amount. I now have to sue them to get the rest of my money. Awful experience -- already going to terminate my coverage with them.

If I could give zero stars, I would. We spoke with a representative [Michael **] and he got us set up for a policy on a house we're planning to close on. We waited for confirmation on the policy, and waited, and waited. As the closing date approached, we received a call from him saying to give him a call back, no big deal. We did, no return call. Tried multiple times over the next four days. Nothing. Sent emails, called again. Find out through another call [again still can't get a hold of Michael] that they just need confirmation that we'll handle a small bit of leftover mold [which our inspector said was not a problem] within 30 days of closing. Sure thing! We'll handle that. Meanwhile, our loan officer is trying to get a hold of them as well to finalize details. Finally get a call TWO DAYS before closing to hear they will not be able to insure us. Thanks AMICA for making home buying so stressful! We'll be sure to let everyone know how "helpful" you are.

The sales rep said it was too late in the month to change the policy for November, but it would be applied to December. I was charged my higher rate for November, and not my lower rate for my new premium until today. However, I was rear ended two weeks ago and they have charged this new premium is applied to the month of November even though I paid the higher amount. Basically, I get less even though I paid more. Their excuse over the phone was "The bill was already sent out." But they don't bill retroactively! This makes no sense. Don't go with Amica, they are blatantly trying to get your money.

I have been an Amica customer for 30 years but will be switching my insurance. One, they were inching up the replacement value on my home year by year. How am I suppose to know the replacement value. That is not the same as market value. I ended up getting money back for the current year only after they brought the value down by almost $80K. The replacement value is now $170K so they were that much too high.
Two, they upped my auto rate for opening two credit accounts. One for new tires and the other at home depot but never used. I have a perfect credit rating and they do not take that into account when submitting their formula to the state. I discussed it with three levels of management and the third, the director of the office where I live, was like talking to a stone wall. Also, they up the rates and I drive a 12 year old car with no electronics in the bumper. You don't get a break for older cars at Amica.
Third, I think because they don't use agents it is completely up to you to thoroughly scrub your renewal every year. Their person even said to me "it is a shared responsibility between Amica and the customer on policy renewal." That person has now retired. Yes, that is my responsibility, but every time you call you get a different person. They have a local office where I live and I have even gone to that office to get personal contact with someone who will look at my policies. I have my homeowners with them also and an umbrella policy. No more, will be changing companies shortly. Their policies are going up way too much each year.

I have been an Amica auto, homeowner and umbrella customer in Colorado for 1 year. I received renewals and was shocked by a 25% ($432) increase in my homeowner premium and a 20% ($229). I've not filed any claims for many years so that can’t be the reasoning for the steep premium increase. No auto claims and no liability claim either. I switched from Nationwide to Amica because of high ratings by customers who've had claims processed and THAT is why I believe my 25% increase is a result of. My inflation adjustment for my dwelling liability increased by >6%. But because Amica customers seem to get their claims paid in full, therefore customers who never file claims have to subsidize those payouts.
I don't know if Amica realizes that this high increase in premium on top of already high premiums will drive away responsible customers, leaving them with a smaller base of customers to spread the cost of payouts. Customers who stay with Amica would bear larger and larger premium increases as fewer and fewer customers purchase their policies. You'd think that with fewer customers, there would be fewer claims, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems that Amica's reliably good claims processing is attracting less desirable risk, while driving away less risky customers. While I could increase my deductible I would not save much on the premium. As a result, it's good practice to shop around for insurance among the Consumer Reports other highly rated insurers.

I was shocked. I asked what the rationale was behind raising rates for someone who moves to a smaller community vs. living in a major city where there are more cars and more of a chance for accidents. They simply said, "because." If that's how you're treated after 35+ years, I can only imagine what happens when you're a new customer. AMICA has gone downhill in the last several years. Sad.

I'm someone who does thorough research before committing to a service, so I felt confident when most websites had Amica listed as the best auto insurance coverage short of USAA, which is reserved for military families. I first had Amica coverage for myself, a good driver with spotless record who never called in any claims. Things were fine despite yearly premium increases that seemed high but not outrageous.
Once my husband joined my plan, the premium went up; I wasn't happy but expected it considering a point on his record. Then things got pretty pricey, to the point where we were paying nearly $400 a month for two vehicles. But really the concern comes with how they dealt with minor claims that took place in the last two years (we had six years of coverage total) -- they seem customer-service forward at first, but they are all over the place with responding to emails, accurately recording information, and providing actual good service.
Once I started shopping around for other quotes, it became apparent just what a mess Amica is -- they had input information incorrectly on one of the claims and this was causing a slew of issues on my husband's record. Getting it cleared up was a nightmare and even when they delivered the documentation we needed, it still had an error. Many of the agents give you conflicting information and rarely follow through. Honestly, just avoid this company.

We've been insured under Amica for a decade. Throughout the first seven years, we were happy to pay more than average because they were great. Over the last two-three years, everything has completely deteriorated. Some examples: Last spring, I received information about owing money due to an accident. Fair. I called their accounting department and was repeatedly told they could not find the bill, could not find the person I was supposed to talk to in order to pay, etc. It took four separate calls (and several hours!) to finally track down someone who had any idea what was going on and how to, you know, pay them the money they'd billed me for.
The rep who dealt with our homeowners insurance had a list of things that needed to get fixed or changed for our policy. Some made total sense: proof that the oil tank was removed, trimming a tree near a power line. Others, not so much: re-painting the entire (recently painted) house. I asked about that one, and not only could she not explain why that needed to happen, she also told me she couldn't find out why, and that I just had to do it. I assume there IS a reason, but if I'm going to pay for an entire house re-paint, it would awesome if someone could actually give me the reason behind it, you know?
Despite paying our auto insurance monthly for a year, last year they randomly billed the entire sum for the coming year to our credit card. I called, they refunded me, and assured me it was completely set back to monthly for the future. Last month, they did the exact same thing. I called, the person I spoke to assured me it would be refunded and fixed. A month later, no refund, no monthly charge.
I called to check in and was told they couldn't issue it because they needed to confirm that we hadn't filed a dispute with our bank. (We hadn't. I hadn't mentioned anything about it during the first call. While on the phone with me, she checked and said "Hmmmm, there's no mention of why they would think there was.") I asked why no one had called to ask us about this. She explained they'd called at least eight times. I checked our phone records. One call from Amica, no voicemails. I asked which phone number they'd called, and she told me they didn't store this information.
During this call, she also told me that an umbrella policy I'd been under the impression I'd canceled (because... I spoke to someone, requested it was canceled, and was told it was) last summer had actually NOT been canceled, and canceled itself due to my non-payment. (They have my credit card information on file. Every other policy I have is set up on auto-bill. Why would this one also not be on auto-bill, if it was still active?) No one I've spoken to in the previous year (and there have been a lot, see all of the above points!) has mentioned owing money on this policy. Since I've been under the impression it was successfully canceled, and it's been a year, my notes on the cancellation (e.g., who I spoke to, when I spoke to them, any sort of confirmation information I received over the phone) are long gone.
When I asked why no one had mentioned it up until now, or contacted us about it, and mentioned that I was fairly frustrated with all of my experiences with Amica over the past few years, she replied "Well, this situation hasn't been awful... We refunded your money!" And it's true, they did. After they overcharged me nearly two thousand dollars for something they said was fixed last year, after three phone calls and several hours on the phone, and after I had to follow up with them because they apparently have a phantom phone number for me that they only use when trying to issue me a refund, they did refund my money.
I paid for the stupid three months of the umbrella policy just to end the agony. I'm delighted to report I'm searching for a new insurance provider for my auto, homeowners, and landlord insurance policies, and I hope to soon say I'll never need to speak to Amica again. If you'd like to pay extra for a Kafka-esque bureaucratic frustration, definitely go with Amica. Otherwise, shop around.

We’re sorry to hear this, Savannah, and we’d like to speak with you about the experiences you’ve had with us. We’ve passed your review along and will have a manager get in touch with you to discuss this. Thank you.

I have been with AMICA for 3 years now and while they were not the cheapest insurance they had good customer service, and gave me peace of mind (although they did keep going up on their rates while justifying the increase by telling me, "We added other services to your policy", which I don't even use). I am a customer that always made the most of their "discounts": safe driver, loyal customer, great credit, multi policy, etc. I paid them for a whole year of insurance upfront, just like I always do; a total of $837 for my 9 year old SUV (full coverage) in March. Now here it is August (5 months later) and I sold my SUV, and I cancelled the coverage since I no longer needed it (keep in mind that I still have one auto insured through AMICA). I was expecting at get back at least $350 to $400 return for the portion of unused insurance that I had purchased, instead got back a total $156 for the remaining 7 months of prepaid full coverage auto policy.
They said it is due to not being eligible for the discounts they were giving me when I "started" the policy (since I don't have two cars insured). I call "BS" and had they told me they were going to keep my money for the unused portion I would not have paid them upfront (warning to people... do not pay them upfront ever just make the monthly payments so you can walk away at any time, the 5% discount is not worth the risk). I am now going to cancel my renters insurance and will check on going back to AAA auto insurance (just wondering how much AMICA will rip me off again for leaving them) who at least have physical offices everywhere, and while they may not have the best customer service at least they did not rip me off either I would rather know what I am dealing with.
Lesson learned and I will not be back ever, and I will continue to discourage anyone from getting any kind of AMICA insurance (the dividend they like to brag about is a bunch of crap too, it is nothing more than a marketing scheme people, I only got $20 a year twice). AMICA is this how you treat your loyal customers, if so you can keep your "blood money" and I will give someone else my business and money when we are through. At this point I would rather pay another company more money just to prove a point to AMICA. Also I just checked AMICA's website and they archive all the policies you have had with with them, funny though they took that prepaid policy off. It does not matter I have the email they originally sent back in February and it will be getting sent to Austin Tx with my complaint.

I had a full year auto insurance with Amica and fully paid the insurance at the very beginning (May 2017). This insurance stopped in May 2018. Then I started a new auto policy with another company at the beginning of May 2018. However, they keep sending me email, mail, and even via CCS to ask for bill. That is cheating.

Hello. We'd like to look into this. Please send an email to socialmedia@amica.com with your name and phone number and we'll have someone contact you about this. Thanks.

I'm new to Amica. But since my parked car was struck by an hit and run, security and police reports made, I feel Amica claims adjuster has constantly wanted to push this claim to my collision coverage, which I believe will negatively affect my future insurance costs but guarantee they recoup their costs, for shareholder? Maybe all insurance companies do this? I do not know. I feel they investigated me. Am I at fault? The car was parked, I think it's to make their money back.

My family has had Amica insurance for over 10 years. Multiple family members carry the insurance for their homes and cars (at least 4 houses and 4 cars, and probably others that I don't know about). This year, one of the home insurance policies had to be underwritten again. The customer service during this process was fantastic. After about 6 weeks of emails and phone calls (which was a reasonable amount of time because there were multiple family members who needed to be on conference calls), we received 3 new quotes in April.
The quotes were accurate and on par with the previous policy cost. Then, due to family travel and unforeseen circumstances, there was a 6-8 week gap in communication to Amica. When we reached out again (in June) to accept one of the quotes, we were told the rates had increased. When we inquired as to why, in a two month period the rates had increased, we were told that was not information that could be shared with us. Furthermore, when we inquired as to the number of claims that had been made on the policy, we were also told that information could not be shared with us. We are now so disappointed with the customer service and the business ethics and practices at Amica, all family members are looking to insure both homes and cars elsewhere.

I read reviews and did my research online for a great auto insurance company. Everything I saw had Amica rated really well, so I decided to do a quote online and then phoned in to get everything finalized. Susan ** was the rep who helped me and was very pleasant getting everything set up. I made a payment to have the policy start at midnight on 08/07/2018. After downloading the Amica app later that evening, I realized that the closest preferred collision center was about an hour away. Given a wreck is a headache enough, I did not want to have to a commute to also deal with to get a repair done. So, I called in that night and asked to have it canceled for this reason and I was told they would mail me a check out for the refund.
Susan called me on 08/07/2018 midday and stated that she had seen my request and asked that I call and speak with her about my concern. I did that and after talking with her I decided that I still did not feel comfortable taking a wreck car to a non-preferred facility. She did mention that I could see about having any facility added to their list, but that is something that I would expect from The General insurance commercial.
Why should I do the footwork to get you a non-preferred facility approved??? So, I asked to go ahead with the cancellation and her tone changed, not rude, but just no more sincerity and concern for my interests were gone. She stated that she would go ahead and process the cancellation and that I would also get an email confirming that, which I never got. Today I get a email from Carmen ** about following up on my documents that need to be signed. What happen to my cancellation??? I have email Carmen and Susan back regarding this issue and currently am waiting on a reply. I did not expect this runaround with a company that I read so many positives things about.

Car was hit from behind causing damage to the vehicle and it had to be towed. Used Amica preferred body shop that fixed the bumper but they refused to fix any damage done from accident to the front of the vehicle. The Amica preferred body shop really made it clear that I have to pay for anything done to the front of the vehicle. It wasn't surprising the Amica appraisal people agreed with the body shop completely. I informed the body shop that force from the back on the vehicle can transfer to the front of the vehicle. The Amica preferred body shop gave high estimates for the front lower control arms, front wheel and front bearing arguing that nothing in the front of the vehicle is damage related to the accident.
Long story short had to tow the vehicle back and took the car to another mechanic that replaced only the bearing and one tire and now car is aligned perfectly. Turned out front lower control arms and wheel were just fine. So in conclusion a car hit from behind turning right with brakes on and hit with a certain amount of force can and will damage a front bearing. Sent photo of bearing to Amica showing the bearing being pulled out from tire being dragged.
Bottom line my experience with their customer service has been very poor and it's unfortunate I had to cover some of the damages myself. I'm sure Amica's reply to this is, "It isn't accident related." So if it isn't why would I have to tow the car to and from the body shop? Sure there is wear and tear on a car but the car ran straight before accident and after accident it can't be driven hardly at all. Sad you pay for insurance for years and then when you need it I still have to pay for repairs to get car running to where it was before.

I was a policyholder in one form or another for over 30 years. I dropped my auto insurance about 5 years ago. The rates went up considerably because I had an auto accident and a couple of photo radar tickets, so understandable. I held onto to my homeowner insurance. I've checked auto insurance a few times at Amica but it would cost me triple from what I'm paying now. This week I decided to look at bundling my home with Progressive my current auto insurance. I find out that it will save me over 1000.00 a year on just my homeowners insurance for the same coverage. Really that much!
I never had a claim. I don't mind paying a little extra for good service but wow. I'm feeling foolish to think they were giving me decent rates for being a loyal customer. I'm feeling like I was violated by someone I thought I knew. They really screwed me. I used to really have good comments about this company and even recommended them to handful of friends. Not anymore.

I signed up with Amica for a 1 year Auto & Home policy in July 2017. I knew at that time I was selecting an insurance company rated for some of the best service in NA. My original sales representative was very helpful and informative and helped me setup my Iowa policies. He also let me know at the 1 year renewal mark I would have the options of maintaining my coverage for a slight discount or increasing my coverage for a slight increase in premium which I was pleased to hear. Both policies combined were around $2,100~ over the year at $176 plus change monthly which was the most I’d ever paid for insurance, but I was happy to pay it because I came to Amica with the intention of staying put and one day passing this great coverage on to my future children.
I spoke with various representatives as time went by who were always professional and some were extra kind and helpful/caring. And I had good service experiences with Amica. In April 2018 I spoke with a sales representative for New Mexico who advised me that to have the same kinds of policies in New Mexico would be around $12 cheaper per year than Iowa. In May 2018 both policies were changed to New Mexico. In June 2018 I saw my first bill for my New Mexico policies which was $278...
Keep in mind I never had single accident claim that resulted in Amica paying out a dime nor did I incur any speeding or driving related tickets during this period. When I called Amica to find out why my bill had gone up I was informed that 12 months of charges had been packed into 9 months of billing due to the way the billing worked out which I understood, but the bill was still too high even accounting for that.
After more conversations I found out my New Mexico policies were over $2,500 over 12 months and that if Amica had renewed my Iowa policies I would have paid over $2,400 over 12 months. Amica had some professional and even kind representatives that listened to me, but Amica has not empowered them or even the supervisors enough to help someone in my situation. Therefore the dream I had for Amica & I is dead, and the corporation Amica has become like a ??? that bites in my eyes. I am switching to Allstate where for $128 plus change per month I can at least cover the auto fully.

We’re sorry we weren’t able to meet your needs at this time, Abriam. There are many factors that go into pricing a policy. We’ll pass your feedback along and we wish you all the best in the future. Thank you. -KD

Our daughter has a spotless driving record. We are in the process of giving her our 11 year old car that has never been in an accident and has well under 100,000 miles. She lives 1500 miles from us. We drove the car 2 days ago to her new location. She previously lived 2500 miles away on the East Coast. She did not own or drive any car for the past 14 months. She had been on our Amica policy for 6.5 years. First as a high school student with no car of her own and later to an out-of-state honor college student. When she moved to the East Coast, she did not own or drive a car, nor was she a student any longer. Her work provided her with a Metropass. Amica told us to take her off of our policy when she moved to the East Coast 14 months ago. They increased our rate 14% after we took her off because they said they felt like it.
She just accepted a new job in the Midwest. We drove our 11 year old car there and are in the process of giving it to her (her name on the title, and new license plates. She is also getting a new driver's license.) Amica quoted her car insurance policy at $8000!!! She has a clean driving record as does the 11 year old car which also has air bags, alarm, well under 100,000 miles, stabilizer suspension, anti-lock breaks. Amica says they are charging her that because she didn't have insurance last year. How can you have car insurance when you don't own or drive a car? Why did they tell me to take her off our policy and then raise our rates when we had fewer drivers, fewer miles being driven? She received car insurance easily from a different major car insurance company for $972. Amica screws its customers and there is no service from their customer service. Horrible, unethical company.
Updated on 06/29/2018: I was told that I could only privately respond to your unhelpful response which I feel is ridiculous. So Amica here is my response to your "help" in this matter. Your representative agreed that you are not the cheapest in providing car insurance and that you did recommend my daughter go off our policy. Also, the $8000 quote for her individual insurance is firm. The rep could not justify the increase to our policy after the removal of our daughter. Everything I said was confirmed. Amica hates millennials and anyone over fifty. Customer service acts as gatekeepers to screw us with a smile.

We understand that you spoke with a representative about this today. If there's anything you'd like to discuss with us further, we'd be happy to have someone reach out again. Thank you.

I live with other family members and a select few tend to forget to give me my mail daily or they’ll get mail from the box and toss the pile in a different area of the house each day and not remember where they put it. So I enrolled for my bills to be emailed monthly to me. I rarely check my email so typically knowing my bill was due the first week of the month and it was always the same amount $100. I used to just log onto Amica.com which my dashboard/profile would show me the amount due and the date it was due by and then I was able to pay it then and there in one shot. In March after I paid my typical bill I added on a second car that I only drive once in a while during the summer time. I was told that it was going to cost an extra $89 a month so my bill total would be $175. She said I would begin seeing this new total come the next bill cycle.
03/31/2018 was the last time Amica had posted a bill to my account. On 04/17/18 I logged onto my Amica profile and my dashboard said I owed $100 immediately and showed no other balance or amount due. So I paid $100 on 04/17/18 and where the dashboard said there was no amount due I figured I was fine until the next upcoming month. Well Amica mailed out a cancellation notice 17 days later after I paid the $100 saying if I didn’t pay $99.67 by 05/29/18 then the policy would be cancelled. Well I never ended up seeing this actual letter until 06/10/18 when a family member had cleaned the kitchen and had found it in a pile of junk mail, she told me she assumed it wasn’t important since she knew I signed up for my bills to be emailed and that I knew to pay each month.
Between the day I made the $100 payment and to the cancellation date 04/17/18 to 05/29/18 not one Amica agent had attempted to contact me by making a phone call to me to let me know I actually had $99.76 past due and it had to be paid before 05/29/18 in order to avoid cancellation. My step dad was hit by a drunk driver the week of Memorial Day weekend which same week Amica was to cancel my policy that I had absolutely no knowledge of. So I traveled miles daily after 05/29/18 until 06/10/18 which when I finally discovered this whole issue which left me stranded miles from home and sleeping outside on a sidewalk in front of the hospital my dad was dying in up in ICU. He had to be placed into induced coma which ended up causing me to be side tracked which I admit is my doing, but I figured everything was ok with my policy and didn’t think an insurance company would cancel me for being a few days late.
This point I figured my bill was due 06/2/18 and forgot about it until 06/10/18. While my dad was in a very high risk surgery I recalled I had put off 2/3 bills and decided to pay them while waiting. I logged onto my Amica profile and my dashboard showed I had to make a payment of $99.76 which threw me off a bit because I assumed by now my second vehicle was going to be billed this time. I paid the $100 and planned to call Amica the next day since I had plans to go home since I didn’t have a babysitter. My dashboard said I had then had $0.00 past due and that next amount due was to be $185.00 due 08/2/18 so again so misleading and assumed everything was fine. Well it wasn’t because I finally was given the letter sent to me on 05/4/18 saying my policy was cancelled 05/29/18 due to $99.76 not being paid. Confused I looked into my past bills which last bill Amica posted was 3/15/18 and it was actually for the amount of roughly $250!
Since that was the case I’d love to know why my dashboard had shown me that only a payment of $150 was due 4/17/18 and not actually the full bill amount! And instead of a normal company that would’ve actually called their client to inform them Amica just sends out a cancellation notice 17 days prior to receiving $150 and saying I’ll be cancelled over a petty $100. When all they needed to do was either give me a phone call or just put the past due $100 into the next bill they could’ve posted and stating it must be paid in full by a certain date. None of this would’ve happened if Amica had actually told me on my dashboard the exact amount the bill was due versus like half the bill.
Then on 6/7/18 when I made the payment of the $100 that my dashboard said was due my dashboard had then said I had zero past due and $185 not due until 8/2/18 which if Amica hasn’t posted a bill to my account on that policy since 3/15/18 and that they cancelled it 5/29/18 how the heck can they say I owe them $185 on 8/2/18 on a policy that isn’t even active any longer! When I paid the $100 on 6/7/18 that was the amount that was due before 5/29/18 to avoid cancellation so technically I was to be caught up on that past policy. When I contacted Amica multiple times they all avoid actually answering my questions and admit their poor communication skills they have with customers. And the fact that this whole cancellation absolutely could’ve been avoided all together.
They just change the subject to the fact that they’ll gladly quote me on starting a new policy which will cost me more monthly due to being cancelled for non payment by last insurer (no crap. It is your company!) and then demand I must pay 20% down upfront to begin the policy! I refuse! If Amica had communicated correctly or put correct amounts due on customers dashboards this wouldn’t have happened! And dealing with my dad in coma and hanging to life by a thread I now deal with this and having no car. So if I am called by the hospital telling me I must get there ASAP I can’t and could possibly miss my chance of saying goodbye to him if it comes down to this. Amica needs to admit to their fault. I can admit to mine that I didn’t get this cancellation notice until after 5/29/18 and it wasn’t due to them mailing it, it was due to family I live with not giving me my mail in a proper manner.
But Amica had no good reason on not placing the full bill amount on my dashboard and accepting me making only half the bill amount payment on 4/17/18 or showing I had no amount at all past due after making this payment. Never once attempting to call me to inform me of their poor billing system which goes good along with their poor communication skills. Then demand I begin a new policy that will cost me more and demand I pay a huge chunk upfront. Then totally avoid answering me on why they never communicated with me by a phone call or the fact their billing/dashboard was incorrect and change the subject to just demanding me they can only offer me a new policy and pay 20% upfront. And plus the fact too I will need to pay the RMV title fees due to having my insurance cancelled!
I truly feel Amica sees that I have carried insurance and drove in the last 12 years straight and those 12 years I have a perfect driving history with not one ticket, citation or pulled over etc and had only made five claims in 12 years to my insurance provider which 4 claims was glass and 1 being an auto accident that I wasn’t at fault for so the amount my insurance provider had paid out to me was given back to them from the person who was at faults insurance company. So Amica sees me as a person who can be taken advantage of. I’m a customer who will pay almost $1500 for the year to insure a car and most likely will not have to file a claim and be paid out any money making it more money given to their company and placed into their pockets that they get to walk away with.
So why not set up miscommunication with billing etc resulting in cancellation (legally they must send a cancellation notice and they probably hoped I was not to see it like I didn’t resulting in this outcome) so they could cancel my current policy and then totally ignore explaining any reasons why mistakes happened on their end, but just shove a “We can give you a new policy which will cost an extra $700 for the year due to you was cancelled for nonpayment and you must pay 20% down today to activate this new policy” all knowing they will most likely be able to walk away with everything I pay at the end of the year.
Why make only $1500 off me a year when it can be set up to where I’m forced to be told I have to pay $2600 a year making it much more they can pocket in the end. I feel I deserve from Amica an apology for their behalf having legit no communication, billing issues where their posted bill amounts do not match the amounts on Amica profile dashboard and not making one phone call to inform their customer that they are about to be cancelled over $100 and then continue to bill amounts and say bills are due on a policy that isn’t active. I deserve to also begin a new policy, but paying the same previous policy premium amount for the two cars I was to be paying and not be required to pay 20% down upfront since I will have no choice in paying out RMV title fees over their miscommunication skills.
Amica is a little over priced to begin with and they are almost $200-$300 more for me yearly than other companies I’ve looked into or have had, Arbella being one of them, but all my family members have very high things to say about Amica and I would love to feel the same, but at this moment it is just impossible. Arbella never would’ve done this to me in the ten years I had been insured with them. They always made sure the full bill amount matched the amount posted to be due online and if this had happen with them then they would’ve contacted me to inform me that there actually was still $100 past due and to pay immediately or give the option they roll over into the next months bill and require I pay the full bill amount.
I did receive a call from an Amica agent few days ago on Friday, but I was in the ICU with my dad and phones are required to be off and typically aren’t even allowed into the room even while off with you due to it can malfunction important machines they have being used on the patient. And it was after 6 pm I had gotten the voicemail along with it was the weekend.
Today I had again to be at the hospital/ICU due to we had to speak of potential arrangements if it comes down to that so I did forget to make the call back, but I plan to speak to the Amica agent tomorrow and I truly hope that Amica had her contact me to fix this and hopefully fix it the right way and not just demand I begin a new policy that will cost almost $500 more and I must pay 20% down upfront. Because honestly I have been not working along paying for child care, now the last week I have had to take public transportation which costs me well over $40 a day there and back. And will possibly have a 50/50 chance I will have to help my family pitch in paying these medical bills and if he gets better he’ll need physical therapy, more bills or passing away which paying for funeral costs is not cheap at all.

I was pleasantly surprised to actually speak with a manager who explained the situation in Georgia and with my policy, in particular. I understand what happened and appreciated an honest accounting pertaining to my policy. Changes promised by the manager have been confirmed and I am quite happy with my premium.
I can see why Amica has always ranked high in customer service, not just with claims processing. Thank you!

I have been an Amica auto, homeowner and umbrella customer in Georgia for 2 years. I just received notice for my renewals and was shocked by a 25%(>$400) increase in my homeowner premium. I've never filed any claims with any insurer since owning my house. No auto claims and no liability claims ever, either. I switched from Auto Owners to Amica because of high ratings by customers who've had claims processed. And THAT is what I believe my 25% increase is due to.My inflation adjustment for my dwelling liability increased by 6%. But because Amica customers seem to get their claims paid in full, customers who never file claims have to subsidize those payouts.
I don't know if Amica realizes that this high increase in premium on top of already high premiums will drive away customers, leaving them with a smaller base of customers to spread the cost of payouts. Customers who stay with Amica would bear larger and larger premium increases as fewer and fewer customers bear the costs. You'd think that with fewer customers, there would be fewer claims, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems that Amica's reliably good claims processing is attracting less desirable risk, while driving away less risky customers. While I could increase my deductible from $1,500 to $2,500, I would not save much on the premium. As a result, it's good practice to shop around for insurance among the Consumer Reports other highly rated insurers.

So, after a couple years with Amica Insurance I receive a letter stating they won’t renew my policy because of claims they paid involving; Towing, an accident where my wife and daughter were rear ended and other claim. I decided to go with them for Roadside Assistance. Amica made their Roadside program out to be better than AAA etc. I paid a fee for 5 cars yearly. My daughter had (8) tow claims which they paid but never sending me a letter or notice that there's a limit to claims. My wife and daughter were rear ended last August by an at FAULT driver, Amica chose to add that accident against my policy despite having the At FAULT INSUREDS insurance to go after. My wife got pretty hurt in that accident requiring her to have shoulder surgery from the seat belt of all things.
I lived up to my end of the contract by paying my premiums on time, touting Amica to others to switch over to them. Today (6/11) I get a letter stating they’re dropping me. Why the hell do I pay for Coverage from Amica when it appears the first order of business is to gladly take my premium money only to send me their version of a Dear John letter? I left another because I had faith in Amica. But in the end I’m one person who made the day of some actuarial, computing risk versus revenue and maybe saving Amica a few hundred dollars despite receiving close to $5K a year from me. I tried to look up my daughter's tow claims but found a few, two were for $48.90 each.
Just a month ago they sent me the forms for renewal to keep my "discounts" for my daughter's grades from college, Good Driving discounts etc. Oh by the way my 20 yr old daughter hasn't had an incident since having her license, we've had none in years. Eight tow claims for one car out of Five! Even if the genius actuarial averaged it out based on claims for the other cars that would be 1.6 claims per car. I had $305 in reductions! Not Charges for Merit ratings of all drivers on policy! In my mind someone messed up pretty good, thinking they're saving Amica a few dollars. They also have my house - NO CLAIMS! Thank God. I'm disgusted, very upset and have Zero Faith in Amica. I'll be contacting Mass. AG office and Insurance board especially about the deceptive practice of the Roadside assistance plan.
Updated on 06/12/2018: I was just called by the girl that said she was the one that made the decision not to renew my policy. I asked her; why are you even calling me? She replied she wanted to explain why she made the decision she did. I don't even remember her name, but she said she based it off of the "frequency" of claims made per household, in other words every time my daughter in college called for a jump start, tow etc. (things we were finally able to have figured out and repaired) it counted as a claim on the policy itself! This was something that was never explained to me, I replied; "I'm supposed to tell my daughter in college you have the confidence of Amica being there for you for roadside assistance but don't make too many calls because they'll use it against the household."
She said to me the average person makes a claim once every TEN years! I said, "I guess my family and I of seven are not the average, and, I guess having five cars in a household should up those odds significantly shouldn't it?" I said, "Despite what you're telling me that it isn't about just numbers and statistics and that you were the one responsible for nonrenewal of my policy I guess it is about numbers." I told her she has a lot to learn, she sounds young and in this world it's more than just numbers. Mailing out marketing material stating you're there for people and "it's all about helpfulness" is a crock. I asked her numerous times unless she's calling me to renew my policy I have nothing else to say, her reply was as arrogant as they come; "Well, we did review your policy and decided to hold with the nonrenewal". I said to her, "Thanks, have a nice day!"

I currently have Amica & have had it for about 20 years! They are great! They have this payment savings, where you get a month off of a payment & get back a dividend check. However I don't like that they mention you need tow insurance for a tow before you need it! We had 2 cars last year & we are paying the same amount for the insurance as we did for 1 car. But overall, we like our insurance more than dislike. They have been good to us & have treated us fairly well. They respond to you very quickly when you have a problem.

We were with this company for 10 years, 3 cars, plus homeowners, and lately renters. My driving record almost impeccable. They dare to raise our policy in $2,000 in less than a year because my mother had an accident and because I also got involved in an accident, which was absolutely not my fault. I was going to file a claim with the insurance department, but an expert advised us not to bother and just switched to a different company, which we did, for an even better coverage, and half the price. I should have done this a year ago. We would have saved money. No wonder why Amica is not on JD Power's website any longer. They were once, when we enrolled, but they are going down the hill big time.

I must make this a synopsis, b/c I have already spent way too much time dealing with poor customer service from Amica. After being a customer for at least 10 years making regular on time payments for car insurance I find that Amica does not actually support or care for their customers when it comes down to it. In between final payment of previous policy and renewal we experienced mail/billing issues. When I realized we missed two payments (finally receiving a bill) I paid half immediately and waited to pay the rest of the payment ($275.00) two weeks later, after getting paid. I made the final payment to catch up on Feb. 18, online. When I received a bill in mid March for $24.20, I thought it was odd and called to discuss with CS. I was informed at that time that we were cancelled on 2/16 due to non payment. ($275) We had unknowingly been driving around uninsured for over a month!! Without any notification from Amica.
They swear that they sent numerous letters and made phone calls - never received a word! Now I am dealing with 3 MVA suspension fines that they are sorry they can't help me with. I have never had a worse experience with an insurance company. They may claim to be the best in customer service but when it comes down to it, all they care about is money, just like all the rest of insurance companies. I can't imagine if you suddenly fell ill or had to deal with a life event. This was a simple billing/mail issue that I attempted to remedy as soon as I realized the problem. They cancelled us for less than $300 outstanding bill and then never bothered to tell us we were cancelled, but you better believe they notified the MVA!

Amica was very fair with the settlement we received. No bickering at all. As a policyholder with underage drivers it's worth having my Homeowners policy with them to not only keep premiums down but compared to other insurance providers they are much more reasonable with rates for our young drivers. My wife and I also take a online driver's exam every three years to help keep our rates down. The exam helps keep us in the know with changing technology in cars and also changing state driving laws that affect our driving habits. I was told by consumer guru "Clark Howard" Amica was one of the top rated insurance providers and they have proved that to me so far. Their policy seems to be one you can trust.

My parents have been long time customers of Amica auto and home and everything insurance. They recommended Amica Auto Insurance to me as being reliable. My dad is also an avid consumer reports user- Amica is highly rated there. My experience with Amica has been the complete opposite of pleasant. I got into an accident a year ago where a lady hit the left side of my car by driving past a stop sign while I was driving on the main road. Amica paid out for car repairs and I also got my $1000 deductible back from the opposing driver's insurance company. I was deemed not at fault and thought everything was peachy keen- you know because subrogation is now on the insurance company. WRONG. I move to a different state and start shopping around for insurance companies. FYI, Amica does NOT allow employers to hop on as additional insured/interest. So I had no choice but to leave.
I call Amica up again wanting to confirm that they definitely cannot add them as an additional insured and lo and behold they can, BUT they quoted me DOUBLE. The agent said he could not recommend their policy to me despite the quote he just pulled because it is $400/month and he wouldn't even pay that much. So from all of this, I find out that I have a ding on MY record for an accident that Amica clearly documents was not my fault at all and where Amica was supposed to go through the subrogation process to get their payout back from the opposing driver's insurance. I will be on Amica's shoulders making sure that they carry this situation forward to either erase that ding they threw onto my head (which is ruining my ability to get a decent quote from other insurers) OR report them to the insurance consumer governmental database for the state where I was insured.
FYI If you want to see how many claims have been submitted, do the following- Google search: complaint ratio + insurance + state and click on the link for a consumer index for complaints against insurers. See how many times Amica pops up. The state of California also rates insurance companies- Google search for their ratings. Amica needs to deflate its ego a bit and perform to the standards and high reviews it allegedly gets. Reviews, alone, are not enough. Consumers will shop around and will leave you.
If I were you, I would stay away from Amica. They do not provide much support during the claims process- you will be acting as your own claims agent to remind their agents to do their work. They will not keep you updated- again, they expect you to call them constantly. Also stay away from Progressive. If Satan ever had car insurance, it would be Progressive.

Amica seemed like a great company and we were really happy with their rates... at first. We signed up in July 2016- our homeowner's premiums were $3,149, in 2017 they went to $4,011, and then the renewal we just received was for $5,265- over $2,000 in premium increases in two years with NO CLAIMS FILED. Our auto also went up approximately $400 on the renewal quote for next year. Fortunately I was able to find a reasonable company who apparently doesn't hold everyone else's claims against me- and cancel my policies with Amica. I can't even imagine what my renewals would have looked like if I had ever had to file a claim.

I called Amica and explained the divorce stating that I wanted to separate my insurance. It has been a NIGHTMARE. My ex-husband refused to answer the phone so Amica refused to take me out of the policy. What if he had been in an accident and killed someone? I would be liable for that. We have been with Amica for over three decades. When we check the competition, we find no reason to change. When we filed a claim, all we did was phone them. They told us where it would be repaired. Since it was able to get there without a tow, we dropped it off. Amica had a rental car waiting. Then we were called when repair was complete. We never paid for any of this. And after our one big claim, we were not dropped. Our rates, and discounts, did not change. In addition, they are always patient when we want to discuss coverage and rates. No claims in several years (7+), clean auto record as well. I called to see what could be done and other than raising my deductibles, I was offered no other solution. Best they could say was that if there was an auto claim, original manufacturer parts would be used vs. non-OEM. While that is certainly a value, I can't say it's enough to keep me w/ Amica.

The NC DMV never received the FS1 from Amica so they sent a letter in early April. I contacted Amica to have this resent. I received another letter in early May that the registration was suspended because the FS1 had not been received. I have followed up with Amica two times since then. Accident occurred on April 14th. Appraisers initial report was $1800, which anyone with an eye could tell was a lowball. Front end damage with obvious shifting. Our car has been in the shop for a week now with repair estimates of over $7K (I just checked our account on Carwise.com). The car is maybe worth $9500 if someone was feeling generous. The technician and body shop manager stated that it has a bent rail (frame damage) and that they’d advised the appraiser/adjuster of true extent of the damage and new estimate a week ago.
After they notified the appraiser of the new estimate, they didn’t hear back from her for an additional three business days, and now she's ordered another inspection to be done today (bear in mind the revised estimate from last week was $6625) to “make sure that the car isn’t totaled” (the exact words from my claims manager) and is trying to push for the repair. So, we’ve gone from $1800, to $6625, and now $7100. Please explain to me how and why this makes sense to attempt repair at this point. On a subcompact car. That my teen son will be driving.
Other than the initial perfunctory letter acknowledging the claim, not once has Amica asked me if I need anything, how they can help, or shown genuine concern or empathy for our situation. When I’ve called or emailed with questions, I have received marginally polite, yet uninformative replies and circular explanations from my claims manager. The lack of customer care and advocacy is appalling. I called the WA State Insurance Commissioner office today, and the representative that I talked to was very informative and helpful. I have a feeling that I’ll be speaking with them again soon, to file a complaint.

I waited 6 days (3/28/18) for Amica's appraisal report before scheduling an appointment for an estimate from the auto body shop. I learned from Amica today, (3/26/18) that my car has not been covered by collision insurance since the date of the accident, 6 days ago, and will not be covered for collision insurance until the repairs are completed. Thus, If I was involved in a second accident during those 6 days, I would have had no collision insurance for that 2nd accident!
I asked Amica to tell me where in my policy that denial of coverage is stated. IT'S NOT THERE. The Amica customer service representative told me: "It's our guideline" and "it's our workflow". She would not give me a written statement regarding Amica's "guideline". Thus Amica has essentially changed the terms of my policy without my knowledge, without communication to me, and without written language of that policy change. I think that must be illegal. After multiple inquiries with customer support, and the resulting disappointing resolution, the following is what I'm compelled to post so to help others to not have the same experience! I've been with Amica for 4 months and it's been a nightmare. Every month my bill increases for incidentals that they forgot to tell me about when I signed up. At this rate my coverage will likely increase 50% in one year! (My monthly premium has increased from $189/mo to $215 in 4 months!). And God help me if I should have a claim. Strongly recommend you look elsewhere - I am!
Updated on 04/05/2018: Last month (3/5/18) I wrote about my dissatisfaction with Amica, and that they keep inching up my monthly policy payment. What started out as $189 and month soon became $210/month. This month Amica again managed to charge me an additional $2.82 more. (So I'll up my payment to $215 for next month - up from the original quoted $189/mo.) The $2.82 increase doesn't seem a lot, but over time it adds up. And it tells me it is Amica's strategy to attract customers with an lower policy payment, then slowly bleed them for more! It also makes me wonder about their integrity should a claim be necessary!
I have spoken with Amica on several occasions about my concerns and I have yet to see resolution. I asked Amica to provide a quote for the same coverage I had at USAA, upon which they claimed to have done for a monthly fee of $189. They then proceeded to charge me additional $17/mo. for a $1M umbrella which should have been include in the original quote as this was a part of my USAA package. Then there was an additional $10 for whatever, as well as $3 fee because I chose to send my payment from my checking account, for which I had no charge at USAA and never alerted to by Amica. Amica's approach makes customers nervous, as there appears to be no end to what Amica surprises are to come!

My car is registered in FL where there is additional property insurance that is included.
Nevertheless, I have been insured with Geico for the past 4 years with FL's minimum Property coverage. Subsequently, Amica advised that if I was not previously insured with the min. $25/$50k they would not insure me. I was shocked! I do not have to carry that amount if I do not want but my quote was for those limits so I cannot imagine why Amica would not insure me based on my previous coverage. Amica is very efficient. Once a claim is called in, they immediately get to work to get adjusters on the scene to evaluate what it would take to get the job fixed. They will even contact the other insurance company on your behalf, if applicable, in an effort to quickly resolve the issue. At times, they will even cover your deductible if liability falls on the other party if the job gets done before the other insurance company cuts the check.
Often times they will complete an inspection before you even realize it. In a personal experience after a collision, our vehicle was towed to a yard for storage in another city. We called our own tow company that was closer to our house to have the repairs down and have the adjuster go to our tow company. To our amazement, Amica adjusters had already inspected our vehicle within two hours of our claim notification. Replacement parts were ordered the same day after inspection. I have had Amica Auto insurance since 1988 and Homeowners since 1999. I owned my own business for 22 years and dealt with good and bad companies every day. I have never dealt with a more professional and caring company than Amica. I cannot even begin to understand why all these people have had bad things to say. Maybe the percentage is actually low and not enough customers with good experiences review; just the bad that are ticked off.
I've always said you never know how good your insurance company is until they have to pay a claim. Then you find most insurance companies are actually in the business of not paying claims. I have heard horror stories about almost every insurance company out there and how they go to great lengths not to pay a claim. I can honestly say I have never had this problem with Amica, ever.
I live in Colorado home with the most hail in the nation. Hailstorms have ruined my home and cars twice. Amica had a check in my hand so fast, I thought it was a mistake. I literally called to make a claim. The adjuster came out 24hrs later, fairly appraised my homes damage, left, and a check was in my hand in 3 days that covered all the repairs (new roof, siding, deck, windows, paint) with money left over. And even better than that, my rates did not go up more than the industry average in Colorado. They have paid out at least 3 other instances too, in the same manner. Not one of my other neighbors with the same problem came close to the amount Amica paid, or the quickness. In fact, one of my neighbors is still fighting for his money from a huge insurer, 4 years later.
Colorado uses very little salt, mostly sand on its snowy roads. Three times I got behind a sander and my windshield cracked and my paint sand blasted. Same thing. Adjuster came out and appraised my vehicle within 2 days of my call, and I had a check in 3 days for an entire new paint job and windshield, along with all my lights; again, with money left over. They gave me a rental (weekends included) to use. They did not even charge me my $250 deductible either. I expected to pay this, but the Amica rep on the phone told me no, and that falls under their "other than collision coverage" and only charged me the $100 windshield deductible. Once again, my insurance rates did not go up the next year. My windshields on my cars break 1-2x every year and never a problem replacing them.
The one time they did go up is when I flooded my basement because of a hot water heater exploding (I did not ever drain it in 17 years). They paid out over $30k for the repairs and only raised my Homeowners $155/year. We really thought they would understandably drop us after that claim, after so many other claims; but it did not happen. Their rates in Colorado are about the same as everyone else I checked when I shopped around, sometimes only a bit higher, sometimes lower, but the 20-25% check you get back at the beginning of your policy year (for auto and homeowners) makes them far less expensive than any of my friends comparable policies.
I am now currently looking for life insurance as my plan just ended and the rates shot up (I'm in my mid 50's). I will let this forum know how that goes, but so far, it looks good, just no dividends on life insurance. One other caveat. A friend of mine, on my recommendation, called Amica for rates on his home in New York and his rental out here in Colorado. They were way higher than the other rates he got; so maybe you have to live in the right state for the best rates? I don't know. I'll reiterate it again. I have never dealt with any company better than AMICA and I will be with him until I die. Hope this helps give more clarity from all these negative reviews.

Yesterday, I gave Amica the 'boot'. Why would I do this after 15+ years being their customer for combined Auto and Homeowner's insurance? The answer is simple, after I explain the background leading up to my decision. Over that span of time, I have paid Amica over $15,000 in auto and home insurance premiums without a single claim. In January this year I had a minor fender-bender when backing out of a parking space at a local supermarket. The total claim value to repair my vehicle and the other person's vehicle was $3,795. I paid the repair shop $1,000 for my deductible, which left Amica with an out-of-pocket cost of $2,795. At that time, I asked if this accident would cause my premium to increase. Verbal responses from Amica were evasive and inconclusive until a few months ago when my monthly bill increased by $47.92 per month. The surcharge period is 3 years.
I am billed 10 out of 12 months per year, so the total claim recovery to Amica is $1,438 (rounded). Results are... Amica's cost is $1,357, my cost is $2,500, including deductible and surcharge. So, after 15+ years, $30K in premiums and $1,357 cost to have me as a customer, Amica's gross profit in me is ≈ 95%. It was easy to find another company to provide better coverage with useful additional benefits and lower deductibles. And, it was long overdue for me to compare. I decided to seek out a local insurance agency that has access to multiple insurance brands and a positive long-standing reputation in the community. Now, I am pleased to deal face-to-face with someone I will get to know and trust; someone that will go to 'bat' for me when I need it. I'm tired of dealing with big Insurance companies and banks that hide behind voice routing and automated digital assistants, and their 'take it or leave it' policies.
Effective today, I'm saving $997 per year for combined auto and homeowner's insurance by an A+ rated Amica competitor. At the same time, I have acquired two friends in business that share many of the same interests in my local community. My departing message to Amica is this... When I called to cancel my policies, the representative I spoke with didn't even ask why. I was not transferred to a loss prevention department or a supervisor to discuss my request. Your representative simply asked me to state one of my policy numbers.
After doing this I was informed, "It's done! Will there be anything else I can help you with?" By this response I knew with certainty that I made the right decision.I'm an average hard-working consumer. I want to be cared for and appreciated as a customer. I want to engage in open dialogue with someone willing to listen and is empowered to negotiate and make decisions. I might have continued to pay more and stay longer if you had done this for me.

My August 1, 2017 Renewal Amica Auto Ins. Policy arrived with a 35% increase over last year’s policy. So, I called Amica and got no satisfaction. Then wrote to the CEO of Amica, Mr. Robert DiMuccio. Branch Manager James **, called me about the letter to his CEO. He told me that North Carolina law required Amica to increase my rate, because I had been a licensed driver for 60 years. And that was true, barring the fact that I had not had any accidents or claims, or traffic violations during my driving history.
I never thought that Amica would use my age and not my driving history, to increase my Auto Premium by 35%. It is an unpleasant experience for me to say goodbye to Amica. Parting is not easy for me, after 37 years as an loyal Amica customer. However, it may be required due to my Amica Automobile Policy being increased by 35% for the August 1st Renewal Policy. There have been no claims on my policy. I haven't received any traffic violation tickets since I was a teenager. My automobile is the same vehicle, that has been insured by Amica for past years. The Terms of the Coverage have remained the same over the years. Plus, I am averaging less than 8,000 miles per year driving the insured auto. And it is garaged when I'm not driving it.
My Amica Insurance Policies over the 37 years, have been for Vehicles, Homeowner, Excess Liability, Life Insurance, and Boats. Currently I have Auto, Homeowner, and Excess Liability Policies, in effect. Like most of Amica's customers, my needs for different coverage have evolved over the past 37 years. I do feel that for whatever reason, the Policy Premium increase of 35% is extremely beyond any reasoning. I have been told by an Amica representative that the reason for the excessive increase, is that I have reached the age where I fall into a higher risk group. Please have someone review my automobile coverage and my driving history to remove the 35% increase in my premium for the August 1, 2017 renewal. Amica has afforded me 'peace of mind' over the past 37 years. I would like to continue the relationship, rather than starting a new one.

Hail damage claimed on our roof. First adjuster said no hail damage just wear and tear. Several roofing companies stated otherwise. I am not a roofer, it is quite obvious there is damage. Therefore a second adjuster was request. Second one states there is 'some' hail damage. So they made a small payment, I had a independent adjuster come by and take a look so I can get an unbiased opinion. He stated roof needs to be replaced. So now I had to hire a public adjuster. The moment I did that, Amica notifies me that they will not be able to renew my policy! What shysters!
Apparently, suddenly I am too 'high risk'. However, they forgot to send me an official notice on this, so legally they had to renew my policy. So I went through with the PA, and they hire a law firm for the claim. This is absolutely not appropriate. IF there is no damage I can accept that and move on. But two different adjusters from same company have different opinions, and then when I try to pursue it further, they deny to renew me! People, just stay away.

Few months ago my wife lost her engagement and wedding ring when running errand, felt sick to her stomach about it. We looked everywhere, posted flyers, police report etc. Eventually we filed a claim. Amica handled this very professionally, send out an PI to investigate and take a statement. They had the rings appraised by a third party (based on the GIA certificates). Very soon they paid us the appraised value (a substantial amount, by check) which was the same as our appraisal from 2 years ago and closed the case.
Unfortunately our premium on the HOI went up but we knew that would happen, same practice most insurance companies do after a claim. The rings were insured via a add -on (special rider) to the HOI, for the appraised value. Amica had the best rates. Very pleased with how they handled this case. We will insure the new rings again with Amica (We are in no way sponsored, affiliated or so with Amica, just a honest review).

When a tree fell on my garage an adjuster was out in two days and my insurance check was here in two days after that and it was more than fair for the repairs that needed to be done. When I had a small fender bender and ran over a fire hydrant the police told me I didn't have to do anything and two weeks later I got a bill for the fire hydrant for almost $10,000! I called Amica and they were so wonderful, the agent said "Well you did not fill out an accident report" and I told her that the officer told me I didn't have to. She said "Well then we will do it right now."
A week later I got a letter from Amica saying that they were pleased to inform me that the claim had been paid to the water company and I didn't have to pay one penny for that fire hydrant. When we switched to GEICO, Amica cancelled our Umbrella policy but did not return our funds. Instead they billed us more stating we owe to insure our sons. The outrage is beyond my comprehension. In addition, Amica billed us for three home policies by email (it went to spam) without our request or consent, and then cancelled all policies for non-payment. My most recent premium for the period covering July 2016 to July 2017 was $1,395/year. Note: I am a 29 year old female, my vehicle is a 2011 so not brand new, I drive approximately 15 miles per WEEK, I pay in full, get e-statements, get every discount I am possibly eligible for and as I said, my driving record is impeccable.

After purchasing a new home I was given a figure of a little over $1000 to insure my new home. Two months later I receive a phone call from Amica telling me they figured incorrectly and my insurance was now going to go up by 30%! It was explained to me that this happened because they completely missed the fact that there is another kitchen in my finished basement. How does a company that is supposed to be so great at what they do miss an entire kitchen? After a long and drawn out conversation with the rep I had no choice but to pay more in what I consider a bait and switch situation. I'm hoping they did not miss the fact my home has a roof and call back later with a higher quote.
I was told that the rate could not be lowered for the home but if I took a good driver course I could get an additional $125-150 off my auto insurance. All I would have to do is take a one day class. Watch how this math works. The one day class for my wife and I would be between $25-50 each. The classes are given during the day, during the week which means time out of work for both of us. How does this save me any money? The answer is quite obvious. I have run a small family business that has been in existence for 68 years. If I make a mistake... I eat it. I would never go back to my client and tell them I missed something that would raise the price 30%. As a result this will be a one year contract. I will be seeking other coverage next year. I was always told the Amica reputation was second to none. Perhaps it used to be but not any longer.

My only need with them was car insurance and when they contacted me, I had never heard of them and was a bit wary, but as their rates were great, I did sign up with them. If I could I would give them a ten star rating. They do exactly what they say they will do.
I am on a very strict budget waiting a disability claim and I have had to contact them several times and extend the time for my premium to be paid. They have not only complied with my request every time, they are very courteous, professional and really care about their clients. I would recommend this insurance to anyone in need of car insurance, and I would recommend anyone look into their service record as well as their willingness to work with people and change companies. They do not forget they are dealing with people and understand and listen to your concerns. I have had several insurance carriers in the past, and they are without a doubt the best carrier I have ever found to meet my car insurance needs.
So often people in this profession forget the most important thing when dealing with the public. They often treat you as a number not a person. This company is a "people" company and do not forget they are dealing with people that have problems in every day life and often have difficulty and need extensions on their payments. I had an incident just last month when my payment was due, had mechanical problems with my car that had to be fixed and as a result I needed some extra time to pay my car insurance. As they had done in the past, they were courteous, helpful, really concerned and more than happy to work with me and allow me to extend my payment out to a time I could better afford to pay it. We need more insurance companies like this one.
I am definitely not a salesperson, but I hope to make as many people aware that I can that if you need car insurance, homeowners, rental insurance, they are the company you want. It isn't just that they go over and beyond the call of duty to work with you, they do it in such a courteous manner that you feel better just from having to talk to them. I have spoken to several of their representatives and have not found one that does not display the same amount of courtesy and professionalism as any of them. It is so nice to know there are still companies out there that remember they are dealing with people with problems in every day life as the next person. They are very knowledgeable and never fail to give correct information and clear professional kind advise.
I hope any of you in need of insurance needs to contact them and any of you that are not satisfied with the carrier you have will consider calling them and making a switch. You will not regret your decision in doing so. I am new to this site, so I am not sure if I am allowed to give their contact information, however a google search will immediately show you how to get in touch with them. The last call I made I spoke to "Joan" and she was so very helpful I plan to call her supervisor to let him know how extremely helpful she was.
In addition to all the praise mentioned for this company, I would also like to add that despite how busy they are, how many calls they may get or have waiting, when you are on the phone with them you are made to feel as if you are the only customer they have and they do not rush you off the phone. They take the time to listen to every word you say as if you are the most important call they have. So any of you needing car insurance coverage, or just need to change companies, please call Amica Insurance. You will be glad you did.

My wife is driving my car when she got accident in Temecula, CA. I have only liability on my my vehicle because it is 2003 Honda pilot. My wife is not at fault according to the police report. First the other car involved has expired license, not registered vehicle and beat the red light. After exchanged of informations between both parties, the other driver show as proof of insurance with is United Alliance. So right away, informed AMICA and the insurance that other party showed us, so filed a claim to both insurance company. They gave me a claim number and a adjuster to deal with.
At this point my car was towed to the towing yard because I knew that their insurance gonna take care of it. So after two days of waiting for their callback, they said they are waiting for the report.and so I talk to AMICA if they can help me facilitate my claim because it showed that the other party involved have a non existed policy. So I can't claim any damage cost my car. So I ask AMICA that I have uninsured motorist on my policy but they insisted that I am not covered for uninsured motorist. I was frustrated knowingly that I have to pay the towing company $850.00 for 6 days storage and towing services in my car. I WON'T RECOMMEND TO INSURED YOUR PROPERTY HERE. Waste of time and money. Poor customer satisfaction. Hard to deal with.

I was with Amica for 4.5 years. I hadn't been paying enough attention to my rates. When I received my policy in the mail, I realized my rates had gone up more than double in the time I had been insured. I called Amica and the rep politely explained to me that my rate had been raised every renewal period because I wasn't considered a customer in good standing. I asked how they determined that, since I had no tickets, accidents or claims, and had both my car and renter's policies with them. She stated, since I had not been a customer with them for 5 years or more, I wasn't considered a "good" customer yet. I was shocked and argued my position of being claim and ticket free, always paying on time etc. to no avail. She stated she was sorry but that was their policy. Well, their policy immediately lost them a customer and gained them a bad review added to the many others I have read. Bad company, Amica.

Amica was the insurer for the guy who plowed into the back of my car. Based on my experience, I recommend shorting Amica's stock. They gave me the unwelcome choice of either settling with them for well below the value of my car (which was totalled), or taking them to court, which I have neither the time nor the energy to do. Their use of my time was aggravating. They deal with individuals unfairly because they can. I don't believe the Amica agent on my matter (Patty **) was incompetent, but she is either powerless to do anything other than screw over someone like me, or she is extremely dishonest. If she is honest, she would be smart to quit. At least then she might retain some shred of her integrity. Amica has none.

Yes they have good rates, but on any serious accident, they will fight unfairly with any means to screw you out of paying. I'm not sure there is ANY insurance company out there with a "soul" and who will look to do the "right thing", but Amica definitely is NOT a company with a soul. They will sleep with the devil in order to not do the right thing. BUYER BEWARE... Do not be fooled by this company ads! Do not expect them to pay you fairly on anything other than minor claims. Vicious is a word that comes to mind – sly, snake, liars, and vicious are words that come to mind. I have so much documentation on my experience and I will never throw it away. Any of my friends who wants to know about Amica, I pull out my box of records and volunteer to spend about an hour going over the tragic experience with this company. I prove to them what happened to me. My advice -- do not go with Amica for any serious insurance claims!

AMICA is always most highly recommended. J. D. Powers has ranked them # 1 in customer satisfaction for 13 years. I've used them for homes/autos for decades and would never consider switching. I challenge you to price Amica insurance as they saved us thousands. They do not insure high risk people so it keeps my rates low. Also, we have had a couple of claims and they were always fair and responsive.

Why buy the extra insurance??? So when you file a claim they refuse to renew your policy because they had to pay out!!! Deer accident claim from 2 years ago, and another uninsured motorist claim from 3 years ago for my 14-year-old son that was a passenger in someone else car and was almost killed. They had to pay for his medical and still has to pay him when he turns 18. They only paid $4,600.00 out of his over $100,000.00 in Medical Bills. Then put us through hell with the attorneys to get anything paid for over the first year. What a bunch of scumbags!!! Isn't this why we pay for Insurance, in case of emergencies???
The other claim they are using against me is from 2 years ago for the $100.00 tow from my car breaking down. Are you joking me? Then they said "Well you got a speeding ticket last year going 10 miles over." Big deal! I got a speeding ticket in 30 years of my life driving. Then they used the cell phone at a stopped intersection from 2.5 years ago. Why didn't they use that against me before then? They waited almost 3 years to use it against me. Sounds to me that I cost them some money and now I'm a risk! That is all they care about is making money not losing any money. They don't care about us, it's about them!!! I don't recommend THIS INSURANCE COMPANY TO ANYONE!!! Call Esurance. They are much better!

I had an Amica homeowner's policy for a year. Toward the end of the year I was looking for a new auto insurer so I went with Amica. Shortly after signing up a new auto policy I was told that Amica would have to cancel my homeowner's policy because I told the agent that I was going to be travelling a lot over the course of the year for business, and they said that if I wasn't in my home for more than 11 months of the year they couldn't insure me. They immediately stopped returning my calls and began to treat me like I'd somehow attempted to deceive them. They refused to offer me any other policies, and overall kept misquoting me back to myself when I called in to ask why I was being refused a policy. Overall I felt really abused by Amica and it was a really terrible experience. I'll never have another policy with them again, and strongly recommend against them for customer service.

Terrible experience. I switched to Amica last year due to great rates I was quoted. After first year they added a $375 surcharge for a traffic ticket I had nearly a year before I switched. My initial policy was for $458. My renewal with added collision protection went up to $1605 with surcharges. Needless to say I dumped Amica today. Saved over $1000 a year on my car, house and umbrella policy with State Farm. Be careful Amica agents will lie on initial quote and then surcharge you for past violations for three years. Not an honest company to deal with.

I was in and out of the doctor's office for over a month, in constant pain. I lost over a week of work, I couldn't continue to go to my doctor's office because I started a new job. They lost all my paperwork, twice, I've had to redo my statement at least 3 times. They claimed they couldn't get my medical records, even with the medical release. Thought I would take time to write a positive review. I have had Amica in Ohio for 10 plus years. Had several claims. I was T-boned at an intersection (other person's fault) though the police wrote a no-fault due to the new traffic lights that were put in. Amica went after the other company at my request for my deductible doing a decent procedure in due diligence (did not get my deductible due to the "no fault" police report). I would not recommend using their "preferred repair shops" however - not so happy with their work at two different shops, but they do not hesitate to let you go wherever you want and always paid estimates plus hidden costs without hesitation.
Had one deer hit "collision"; one son totalled a car - they paid fair market which was a good number without questions; another rear end (son) (his fault) -- it was a lower value / 17 year old car. Their market evaluation was a little low. (I explained I had a new clutch put in, new water pump / timing belt etc -- but they said that was "maintenance" and didn't had value.)
They use CCC (low) and local autos for sale with similar age/miles -- couldn't get them to get up to what I thought I could sell the car for based on the mechanical condition. They cited pre-existing physical issues which were true, but a car of that age, the mechanical and low miles meant more to me in terms of value (ie a good runner), and their claims adjuster was a little high in the repair estimate (which you want normally) -- but it "totalled" the car. I found a shop that would do the work for less, and they agreed to get the repair done. They do allow you to take the settlement less your deductible and keep the car as a "salvage car"... which is a *great* option if you have the time and effort.
Their online chat is excellent; local reps are very helpful. They might not be the "cheapest" but they are definitely not the highest rates either (I shop around every once in a while). **Considerable** discount for multiple cars / drivers / combined home / auto / good driver / good student. Checks are always mailed quickly. They also put highest risk drivers on lowest insurance cost autos regardless of who drives what (for a household) to get the best rates. I have 3 boys driving 21 and under plus my wife and I in a metro area with 6 autos and home.

I was with another company before taken the bait for a lower rate to switch to Amica for home service. They don't pay your claim if you're a new customer, their customer service is poor, and they run Ponzi scheme that is licensed by the certain state department. They take your money and don't pay your claim. They have lawyers in Association and individual insurance state board that they pay and would drop your case before they even investigate the illegal monopoly with provision papers works they would send you 60 days after they take your money.
Apparently, one of last reason they gave for trying or not process my claim, was that they need my final three years tax returns, utility bill, bank statement, etc. I don't remember before building my house in 2007 giving my bank this much info since I was 50% over LTV. Their provision that comes in the small note was only provided to me 60 days after signing up said so; I own a business. Why would I provide or sign with a company that is asking for such personal information? Worst insurance company ever. Trust me you will find out. Grieco is much better. First they took me in, and cut my yearly premium, not in half, but below in half. My duty is to spread forth this new, until I have evidence that this company has lost what I have to come out pocket for repairs up to date.

I dropped my Amica Auto Insurance Dec 11 because I found another which charged $300 less per year and with a better deductible. My payment to Amica was due the beginning of November. I paid it in full for the year. I then received another bill for $6. I had meanwhile gotten info on the new company. So I called Amica, told them I was dropping them as of December 11 and asked about the $6 bill I had received. The woman at Amica told me that $6 actually wasn't due until August and since I was leaving Amica anyway, I should just ignore it. She also agreed to reimburse me a check for $1200+ returning what I had paid for the year. I received that check around a month later.
Today I received a note from Amica saying they had turned my file over to a collection agency because I hadn't paid them their bill for $6. I called Amica and was told by them that I had been billed 'numerous' times for that $6, and never responded. Actually I was billed the once, at which time I was told not to bother since it wasn't supposed to have been sent until August anyway. The woman on the phone today told me I owed the $6 anyway. I asked why it hadn't been taken out of the check they had sent me as a return for my yearly payment. I then asked why it would be considered late anyway since I could have paid quarterly but decided to pay in full.
I was told it was considered a different account because I had purchased a new car thereby switching my insurance from a 2010 auto to a 2016 auto (I still had only one car). I said I'd like my name taken from that collection agency before it ruined my credit rating. I was told I'd have to pay that $6 on the phone immediately by credit card if I wanted it taken from the collection agency. Of course I did so, being concerned about my credit score. I then checked my credit score which had been around 775 constantly. It is now down to 720!

In NJ, any claim in excess of $500 will result in a 3-yr insurance surcharge... And it did @ $150/yr. Amica uses a 3rd Party company to provide medical coverage in the event that you are injured in an auto accident. Third Party is PRIZM, Marlton, NJ. TERRIBLE!!!
Amica does not provide for its insureds adequately in this vein. Medical claims adjusters are terrible, and forget about getting your income continuation from your policy-Basic or Extended (what you pay/wk) additionally, because they won't pay it. If you are disabled in an accident, you must file through all other channels for income & be prohibited from work by your MDs & THEIR MDs (based upon IME), before they will pay a mere $100/wk. I hate to say this, but if you died as a result of the car accident, at least they will have to pay the funeral benefit with no dispute.

Anytime I had a claim, they were friendly and processed quickly. No balking and dragging of the feet with these folks! For example, one of my earliest claims was on a 1980 Olds Cutlass where the fuel line broke in the middle of nowhere Texas and caused an engine fire which consumed the car as we had nothing available to extinguish it. When AMICA processed the claim, it wasn't to the Kelly Blue book and I questioned them. They told me it was the value of a Cutlass. I said it was a Cutlass Supreme Brougham (highfalutin Cutlass) and described it to them. They send me a check for the difference, no questions asked. THAT'S SERVICE! I own a Honda CR-V, 2001, in great condition. Last year they finally gave me a good driver discount, but then I mistakenly made a U-turn here in sleepy Alameda. The intersection was completely empty, so there were no consequences for anyone but me. I paid the $150.00 fine and thought the matter was over. I paid for my mistake according to the city of Alameda. Amica however, feels that I should be penalized for a few more years. They've increased my premium by over $300.00 per year!
This is nothing more than legalized extortion. It may be their right to fine me another $300.00 annually for a minor inconsequential mistake, but that does not make it right. No interview, no inquiry. Just "Oh by the way, that ticket is gonna keep costing you for years!" I'm done. This was a decent company, but like so many, greed is taking over.
