I've been using Abode for a very long time, and it's been a great experience. I'm somewhat tech-savvy, so it's not as bad being able to integrate it with some of the other platforms out there, especially home automation platforms. The system works as expected, and I haven't had any issues with it so far. I recommend it quite frequently. Not having a contract is definitely beneficial if you go with Abode compared to some of the other alternatives. One recommendation, though, is for them to lean more towards open source which could be beneficial in some ways.

I’ve been with Abode for more than five years, probably since they started. I have their porch camera for my front door. But when you get a notice that someone's there and you click on the app to see who's there, by the time the video comes up, they're gone. Abode really should speed that up because it's useless. But I've recommended them to a couple of people and they've purchased from Abode. Their products work and are fairly priced. It's all I can ask for.

It really meets my needs particularly. Installation is DIY. If you are familiar with smart home stuff, it's very easy. It took me a couple of hours. The alarm goes off if somebody opens the door when I don't want them to, which is good. I like the recessed door sensors. It’s my favorite thing about the system. All of the equipment with Abode are nice looking and as concealed as they can be, which I really appreciate.

I've had some unreliability issue with the unit and I've done quite a bit of interactions with tech support, but that's all fixed now. It's working. I'd like to see a garage door contact, though. I've made my own, but I shouldn't have to do that. That should be the standard. I'd like to see them have more contacts, and an interface for manual switch which would have made it easier for me to do the garage door contacts. I have a lot of experience with alarm systems. I've installed commercial systems in the past and had one in my previous home. So I know that DSC, for instance, which is an old-school UL-listed alarm system, has a variety of things you can hook up to it. Abode is far more limited.

Very bad company. No alerts without monitor plan. Cameras don't alert on initial motion (and mostly not at all). Cameras go offline constantly and have to be reset in person. Support is useless, always answer your question with a chore for you to do that any ** would have already tried. Cannot delete payment method if you do make the mistake of paying to monitor (just received charge to my card yesterday after unsubscribing over a year ago). I was forced to find order# yesterday to try and get charge reversed, I had 138 support emails that I didn't delete and that does not count chats. Believe me I could go on but have wasted enough time on this company, just hope to save trouble for people reading the paid reviews, don't believe any of it.

Someone told me about Abode and all went well when I signed up. The product is very user-friendly. I've been able to use it by myself without much help, but when I have needed assistance, I've been able to reach someone with something like text messaging.

My garage had been broken into and it made me more nervous about somebody breaking in my house. So, I was looking for a home security system that I could manage myself for home automation and would give me a lot of control over stuff. I didn't want to have it where for anything that went wrong, the system would call the police, and I would have the false alarms calling them. I found Abode through Googling and doing a lot of research, then I rode it down that way.

I like the Home setting, where you can set entry windows and doors. Even if the alarm is off and I'm at home, I'm still notified if somebody's coming in or out. I can set it to call me instead of the police first, and then I can decide if I want to do that or not is really nice as well. 'I've had a couple of false alarms so far and one was due to a faulty window sensor that they fixed and replaced for me. At the time, I wasn't home and they called me. But I knew ahead of time, so I called 911, but I was able to have them walk through the house with me on the phone to check it out, which was nice. So, that worked out well instead of having police coming when I was 99% sure it was a false alarm, which it was. So all the control I have over the security system is the best feature of Abode.

I've been able to use the system for a lot of other things, too, like cooling off my house. I have a whole-house fan in the window in the attic that's unfinished, and if I need to turn it on, I use one of the Abode Plug Things with that, and I could turn it on and off from downstairs. So, it's fun to have all these things that I can do with it. It also has all sorts of additional things on it and I like that. Setting up some of the automations is a bit of a pain and I wanted to switch that over to using something called a Home Assistant, but I haven't had time. And that's another reason why I wanted to get Abode because it's kind of a DIY whole-home automation system.

I've also had a really good experience with their customer service when I called them several times. I was a little nervous getting Abode because I saw so many people say that they never respond and they're horrible. The Abode system is hooked up to a third-party alarm call center, which is nice, and sometimes, they can take a little while to get back to me, but they've been really responsive overall.

When I had some problem initially with setting it up, I called them at a weird time on the weekend and they called me right back. They talked to me and I had a really good time when they called me about alarms. It only happened three times and most of the time, it happened when I had the system set to Home, then I went outside, and I forgot to turn it off. But they called me and they were clever about it. They asked for my mom, who I've set up as my backup person if I don't answer. But they do that to determine if it's somebody who's not supposed to be answering their call.

Aside from that, different cities have different requirements for working alarm systems to be approved and I'm in Milwaukee where the alarm company needs to be registered. It turned out they were, but it's not under the name Abode. It's under this other third-party alarm system thing. So, depending on where you are and what your municipality's rules are, you might need to ask Abode. They have some web pages about it. But if you need to determine if it's approved for your municipality, you might have to look up the name of that other service. That was confusing to get set up or to understand, but it's not been a problem.

There are different plans you can get with Abode and I have the one where the system is hooked to a cell. If the power goes out, it has a battery power backup and a cell backup. So, instead of a Wi-Fi network or Ethernet, I have to plug it in. I also plugged mine into a larger battery backup, so if my power goes out longer than that battery lasts, then it'll use another battery backup. I also like that I get to set up the sensors where and how I want them. I have a window sensor on a double-hung window. In the summer, I need to move the sensor up because there's an air conditioner unit in there. So, if the window gets opened, it's opening at a higher level than it normally does. But in the winter, I need to move it back down. The sensors stick on the window and you can move them yourself, so that's fine.

For their price, Abode is less expensive than a lot of other ones depending on what service you pick. There's an add-on for cameras that I need to get. I got some of the cameras, but I'm still trying to figure out where they are. I also like that the cameras are set with Abode where nobody in the alarm system company can access them unless the alarm is actively going off, and then it'll take recordings. Otherwise, no one can see them and the system doesn't allow that.

Sometimes I travel for work or for fun for some amount of time. If the alarm were to go off, it would be great if they had a recording of who was in there, and they could see it. But I wouldn't want people to be able to see me whenever they wanted from some random company that happened to have some creep who works there who's just accessing people's cameras. Right now, I still have to trust that Abode is telling the truth that nobody can access the cameras unless the alarm is actively going off.

I found Abode through an internet search for different security systems and comparisons, and I was interested in them because of the customization that they could have for their systems. The system was easy to set up and it's been easy to use the features. Customer service is responsive with requests too. Abode is a good option for a lot of people. It feels very secure.

I like the DIY aspect of Abode's security system. They offer everything than let's say your typical ADT but I don't use the key fob because I don't think that's very safe. I've been with them for well over a year and they are right on par with the systems that I previously had. But they're not out there enough to where people would even consider going with them. Also, their pricing is better because any time it's a do-it-yourself kind of platform, you mold it to your specificity versus if I would go to ADT. They might sell me a package but I don't need everything in it.

My son has Abode. He used to have Vivint then he moved from Salt Lake City and he did Abode. I have Vivint as well in my main house but in my second house, there's no cell service. So, I have a Starlink dish and I use Abode on that. I've been using them for two and a half years and I went with them because I like the features. They're ahead of their time and their competitors. I felt good after getting the Abode security system and it gives me peace of mind. It's reasonably priced, too, though the prices could be better. Also, they had a do-it-yourself installation which was pretty easy to do. The quality of the cameras and the responsiveness when I inadvertently set off an alarm are both good. The tech support is okay though sometimes it's frustrating because the hours of their customer service reps are limited. So, you do a lot of emails back and forth.

Very easy to install and set up, the app works seamlessly with our other home devices, we love the geo features, and the mobile app. We also love that it’s self-monitored but can be remotely monitored while away from home, or professionally monitored for short or long-term trips.
