About Solo

Solo, formerly known as SoloSuit, is a U.S.-based legal and technology platform that helps consumers facing debt collection lawsuits create court-filing documents and negotiate debt settlements. It offers software that generates answer documents and other court-response documents, provides automated settlement negotiation tools and offers access to attorney reviews when needed. Solo is available in all 50 states.

Pros
  • Fast document generation
  • Automated negotiation tools, like emails and offers
  • Self-help platform for handling debt
  • Nationwide coverage
  • Clear pricing tiers
  • Attorney option review available
Cons
  • Legal responsibility lies with the user
  • Filing deadlines still apply
  • Debt resolution outcome not guaranteed
  • Settlement may still impact credit

Solo services

Solo provides two digital tools to help consumers with debt: SoloSuit, which helps with your response to a court summons, and SoloSettle, which helps you negotiate a debt. Because Solo isn’t a law firm, users are responsible for the legal outcomes of any documents or negotiations completed through the platform.

SoloSuit

SoloSuit helps users respond to debt collection lawsuits. You complete an online questionnaire, answering based on your summons and complaint, and then Solo creates the answer document for you.

SoloSuit also calculates filing fees and files the answer document with the court. The Premium package includes an attorney review before filing, while the Standard package prepares and files the document without additional review.

SoloSettle

SoloSettle equips users with self-service tools to negotiate a debt settlement. You’ll enter details about your debt, make an offer through the platform and use SoloSettle’s communication system to negotiate with the collector without direct phone calls or emails.

If a settlement is reached, SoloSettle helps arrange payment, and a fee applies only after the agreement is accepted by both parties. Settlement isn’t guaranteed, and because Solo isn’t an attorney, users remain responsible for the legal results of any agreements or negotiations completed through SoloSettle.

Solo requirements

To be eligible for SoloSuit services, you must have received a summons and complaint. SoloSettle requires users to have a debt of at least $2,000.

SoloSettle primarily works with unsecured debt, which means certain debts are ineligible, including:

  • Auto loans
  • Medical debt
  • Mortgages
  • Student loans

Solo costs

SoloSuit offers two fixed-price packages for generating and filing an answer to a debt collection lawsuit. The Standard package costs $67, and the Premium package costs $247 and includes attorney review with a faster filing timeline.

The SoloSettle tool charges a maximum of 19% of the original debt amount, but only if a settlement is reached. Once an agreement is made, payment may be made in a lump sum or through a monthly payment plan.

Additional court filing fees may apply, depending on your jurisdiction.

Solo FAQ

What is Solo?

Solo is a web-based platform that helps users generate legal responses to debt collection lawsuits and negotiate settlements. It’s not a law firm or a substitute for attorney representation.

How does Solo work?

To get an answer document, users fill out an online survey referencing their summons and complaint. SoloSuit generates the answer document, and then you can choose to do standard filing or get an attorney review through the Premium package.

For debt settlement, the SoloSettle tool facilitates offers and negotiations. Once accepted, you pay the agreed amount, and Solo charges up to 19% of the total amount as a fee.

Where is Solo available?

Solo’s services are available in all 50 U.S. states.

Is Solo legit?

Yes, Solo legitimately operates as a self-service legal-tech platform. It discloses that it’s not a law firm and is transparent about the scope of its service. However, Solo doesn’t guarantee case outcomes, and users should weigh the risks of using a self-help platform instead of getting legal representation.

Still have questions?

Is Solo worth it?

Yes, Solo can be worth it for individuals who have been served a debt collection lawsuit and want a cost-effective, tech-driven way to file a legal answer quickly. Most states require you to respond to a lawsuit within 14 to 30 days of receiving the complaint; not responding can lead to a default judgment. Solo provides fast, affordable self-service that can help you meet that deadline.

Solo’s debt settlement tool may appeal to those with delinquent debt who wish to negotiate a reduced payoff. SoloSettle charges a maximum of 19% of the original debt amount if a settlement is reached. Even at that upper limit, the fee falls well within the typical 15% to 25% range charged by most debt settlement companies.

However, for those who need full legal representation, complex litigation support or can’t afford to settle, Solo may not be the best fit. Particularly, users should be aware that filing an answer document from the tool doesn’t automatically resolve or dismiss a lawsuit — further legal steps may be required.

When I got served papers with this debt collection suit, the debt resolution company that I'm working with recommended a site called StopSuit, but it was horrible. I didn't like it at all. The way the debt resolution company that's helping me described it is they'll handle the monetary end of it, but I have to handle the court side of it and making sure I respond. I was looking for something that could provide an answer to the lawyer in the courts for me.

I found SoloSuit on my own, and it seemed to be a good, reliable thing. The difference that I saw between StopSuit and SoloSuit was StopSuit asked if I was working with the debt resolution company, and SoloSuit didn't. I didn't need any help beyond just providing that response. It was easy to use, and getting everything done was much better than StopSuit, where I couldn't get any kind of customer service, any help or any confirmation.

With SoloSuit, there are two different responses. One gets viewed by an attorney, and one doesn't. It let me pick that, and it gave me confirmation when it was all done. It told me how quickly my response would be out to the court and to the opposing attorney. It was really good and the pricing was not out of line at all. The one thing that it needed was to know if you're working with a debt resolution or if you need to be making a settlement offer through Solo. This is the first time for me so it's all new to me but it was a good experience. I was getting something done as far as the requirement to provide an answer for this lawsuit.

I needed something quick, and I did a little research, and the reviews and YouTube information led me to Solo. They were very helpful and guided me through everything I needed to get done. Their rep was prompt with responding to my questions. I could have been nagging, but she was very responsive and professional in how she answered me and how she handled things. That was only because I was anxious and nervous.

Solo guided me through the first process to where they handled the information with the collection company. I made a settlement. I'm not done with Solo, because they’re still handling the payments through. I won't be done for another nine months with the payment. But I'm grateful that I was able to find a company like Solo to help me through that. Otherwise, I would have had to pay an arm and a leg for attorneys. It was a great experience, overall. I didn't know anything like that was attainable, but I was able to find that.

I used Solo to respond to a lawsuit that I'm getting. I was paying my credit cards in time, but I was way in debt. So, I was convinced by CreditAssociates that they can help with that by negotiating with the credit card company so that I wouldn't have to be owing them so much interest. They convinced me but I never knew that I'd have to go through this type of ordeal like lawsuits. I don't want to have to deal with this type of stuff, but this is where we're at. I got served paperwork for lawsuits. So, I called Solo, and they told me I got to respond to it. They advised me, “Okay, you could do SoloSuit.” I went into the website, and to the best of my ability, filled out everything that I had to fill out. So far, so good. I purchased the response, the court fee, and the response through SoloSuit. So, right now, I'm just waiting to see what's the next step that's going to happen after that.

Solo's customer service is great. It was all online, but it was efficient. As hard as court things may be, they made it simple to respond to the questions. Solo got me out of a rut once with the first one, because I was being sued the first time, and they responded for me on that one, and that got settled. So, I got nothing but good things to say about that. I'm just hoping I get the same response to the second one. It's a bigger one, but I'm hopeful.

I'm working with American Debt Relief, and I had a legal question. So, they referred me to Solo's service. I was looking at how to respond to a lawsuit. I contacted Solo online and it was simple. To respond to the last suit, I have to answer a whole bunch of questions. Then they emailed me the form. We had a problem with the court because when they transferred it electronically to the court, my address and name did not appear in the electronic form. So, they said it was some problem with the software that they use in Solo. So, I asked the rep, “Can I just take the paper?” He said, “Yeah, you can bring the paper.” So I took the paper to the court, and no problem taking care of it.

I received a court order from a collection agency, and I wanted to reply back to the court. Solo had the cheapest plan when I did a Google search, and they filed for me. Everything was great with communication and the ease of the app. The staff was great. But I wasn't happy that they were very big on pressuring to settle. If I were able to settle, I would have called the lawyer's office myself and told them what I could afford. I do owe the debt, so I understand that. But I did get some legal advice and they were saying that, sometimes, these agencies just buy them and they don't have the proof of the debt. Sometimes, you can go into court and ask them, like, “How do you prove that this is the debt? How do you prove that this was the company?"

Using Solo was overpriced. After submitting the answer, I ended up settling anyway. So, I spent $300 just to submit something to a court that I didn't need. The case was dismissed anyway. Other than that, it was easy to use Solo. I just needed to get the paper submitted to the court, so they did that. They did what they were supposed to.

Solo has been very easy to deal with. They got my answer filed quickly. I was able to figure it out all on my own without any need for customer support. They have a chat feature on the website where you can talk to somebody if you have questions. I did not know what I was doing when I reached out to Solo, and they helped navigating it. It’s beneficial not to have to do all of this by myself or hire a lawyer. I would tell people considering Solo to go ahead and do it.

I paid for the service and didn't receive the service. I was paying for Solo to generate a form and then file the form. So, the whole process is fairly simple. But Solo never even filed the answer. I had to file the answer myself, so I'm not happy with that. I paid for them to file it. I followed up and tried to contact their customer service. I was never able to. They're now using AI-generated customer service, and so to get to their customer service, you have to use email. They never returned any of my emails either.

Doing the reply was easy for Solo. But getting it submitted was a different thing. I thought they had submitted it to the court but it turned out that they didn't. It was very hard to get in touch with them. I left a message and I sent a couple of emails. But they didn't get in touch with me. Then they sent me an email saying everything was submitted, then I found out that it was not submitted. I finally got in touch with them after the sixth call and they said they needed a regular wet signature. They couldn't have a digital signature. But I reminded them that they sent me an email saying it was done and all good. So, I don't know if that was just an automated email or they were really not paying attention.

Also, they didn't tell me how to submit the paperwork correctly. After I finally got in touch with them, and they said it wasn't submitted to the court, I asked them how I could get it submitted. I don't live in the town where the court is, it's an hour and a half away. They said I could do it by mail. In the end, I had to look it up and it was a nightmare. My paperwork was late and I still don't know if I'm going to get in trouble for that. That's a huge problem. To anyone who's considering working with them, double-check and triple-check to make sure the paperwork is done right, because they don't communicate. They refunded the money that they charged me to submit it to the court because they didn't submit it. But if I wasn't on top of it and calling, I would have just thought it was done. It could really screw up your court case, and you could lose by default, which is a big deal.
