Caliber Home Loans have given us a loan modification effective May 1, 2015. We have a copy of the agreement. We have received notice that effective August 1st SPS will be the servicer our account. I called SPS today to get my new account number and was given one. I asked if I could register online with them so I could make a payment August 1st. I was told no, that they would not have my loan set up until mid August. I told the representative (Tanisha) that I will go ahead and mail the payment. She stated it doesn't matter, I could wait for them to get me set up in the system and make a payment then.
She stated that SPS could not charge late fees for 60 days after an account is transferred to them because of the RESPA law. Tanisha stated even if I don't make payment until August 20th I will be fine. Now I am reading complaints where SPS has done to other commenters here exactly what they told me they would not do because it is illegal under the RESPA law. I think I will send a check with our loan mod agreement attached so they cannot tell us we didn't pay enough and begin tacking on extra charges.

Well they want me to do a short sale! No one will list the house since they never released the money from the insurance company that SPS Loss Dept. is holding for over a year. They sent an appraiser out, he was appalled by the amount of damage that has occurred. I have only put tarps on the roof to stop this never ending rain in Bethel Park but it has now gotten worse and is leaking in rooms that it did not before & is running down the walls and it looks like black mold is now forming. I am contacting the Health Department and see if I can get the property condemned. I am trying to raise two foster sons with disabilities but SPS doesn't care if I am out in the streets.
The water has run down through the walls, ruined the kitchen, doors and electrical. But guess what I gave up! THEY want the house THEY can have it. I have gone through at least 7 Relations Managers that say they will help me and get back to me but they never do and they are no longer there when I call them. I smell a lawsuit coming!!!

Reading all of these posts are so depressing! Especially since it strongly proves the fact that all of us are so helpless against these crooks. I am so depressed because I know that after the stay of my Chapter 13 is lifted then my house will probably be taken away. This company sends letters to me and my Trustee saying that we requested all of these loan modifications... of which we did not. One of these happened to be the special one that was over 10 pages long with a gigantic balloon payment at the end. Who has $85,000 to pay on a house loan when they are 85?!? Our attorney told us to write a letter stating that we were advised NOT to accept these terms and to emphasize that it was his office that told us so. I already have 6 file folders for this SPS monster and I'm sure that this is just the beginning!! Let's pray for a David to slay this terrible giant!!

I have been working with SPS attempting to obtain a loan modification for over a year and a half. While Customer Relationship Managers seem to be doing all that they can do with discussing the status of the modification and letting me know if anything is missing, the underwriters are not reading or relying on information presented to them. They are making decisions that have an adverse impact on me and my home without giving the benefit of a proper review and determination. I have requested trial periods for new mortgage payment amounts so the account would not get further delinquent to no avail. This is the third mortgage company that we have had during the life of this loan, and by far the worst! I am asking for intervention to get to a viable solution that's fair for me as a consumer and for their company. Some assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am applying for a repayment plan with SPS and am hoping the repayment plan will be approved though I get the impression that SPS does not care in reaching out to the borrowers for help due to economic problems. I think all banks just care about collecting the money every month with interest and that is it.

My loan was sold to Select Portfolio Servicing by Chase. Once they obtained my loan, they added attorney fees, and other fees on my $218, 000 home loan from Chase. I applied numerous times for a loan modification. Was always denied. Per Select Portfolio my loan totaled $350,000. I opted for a short sale. I had an approved short sale; however they auction/foreclosed on my home and gave me 24 hours notice to move my family and myself. They not once tried to work with me to make my home affordable and now I have lost my home.

Our mortgage was sold by Chase to SPS and it has been nothing but horrific. I am ready to do a walk away. Our mortgage is underwater by $60,000. We have attempted to do a HARP loan, but were told we are not a Freddie Mac/Fannie May so it could not be done. They offered a loan with a balloon payment at the end when we will be about 76 years old (as if we could come up with that type of money). We have sent loads of paperwork only to have them say it's not current and ask for more. This week, we received a notice that we need flood insurance due to the FEMA maps being changed.
I call my twp clerk, county clerk, DEQ and were told by all of them that there have not been changes to the flood maps. We have lived here for 18 years. They are telling us we need flood insurance or they will buy it for us for $2,500 per year. I am faxing them information tomorrow, but expect the run around. Even my insurance company is baffled. My dream home has become my nightmare. Every time I get mail from them, it's more problems. Any suggestions?

My husband started dealing with SPS after Chase sold our mortgage to them. I was a software engineer my husband a printer. I broke my neck in earthquake, my husband took family leave act we applied for modification and received it. All was well. Chase sold mortgage to SPS. They sent us two modification package. We called, asked which one to sign, someone got pussed, wouldn't give us either modification. In the end we got HARP to give us $100,000.00 to reduce loan. They rejected. Everything we did they rejected. Finally they sold out house without us knowing, threaten us. We had to take all of stuff over 30 years living in our house and move. They gave us 4000.00 but we couldn't do anything. After all the lies from SPS we lost our home and everything we worked for after doing everything they asked us to do. With all the lies and betrayal, this is the American way.

SPS will transfer your account to their new 3rd party Northwest Trustee services for foreclosure and once that happens, good luck, they don't communicate with each other and tell me that the other party is responsible for final reinstate quotes. They don't return your calls or same as mentioned forget to document in file. I did have one representative tell me specifically he put the call and info in my file, I responded, "isn't that typically to update file?" But I am so up in arms, even my bank told me maybe in your best interest to let the house go, instead of them tacking on fees. Just trying to keep my house. Over $8k in fees.

We were approved for the Loan Modification. As many have said, the terms in the contract were contradictory and confusing with a huge balloon payment after 30 years and a lot of extra fees not accounted for. What I did find out today when I called our Recorder's office to see when our mortgage note was transferred to PNC Bank and thus Select Portfolio from First Franklin, the answer was NEVER!!! Two months ago, they applied for an "Affidavit for a LOST Deed."
Unfortunately, I pressed them for hard copies of past documents a little too hard before I had read a complaint somewhere that said to ask them for a copy of THEIR Deed to our property. Since many of these loan transfers happened at once (in the tens of thousands), many of them did not get recorded!! Thus, the deeds are not actually in SPS's hands (or the actual new holder) from what I have gathered until they APPLY for a lost deed. To me, this explains why SPS drags out every change to the loan. They keep the customer paying and mailing (and the CALLS coming and going) until they figure out what to do next. My new loan modification is almost too good with the exception of the length and the balloon at the end. It was due 2 days ago, and I don't know what to do now. BUT, I think I have answered a lot of questions, but I opened a lot of new ones that require a law degree. Hope this helps someone.

I don't care what the issue is, if I cross the path with SPS I leave feeling like I am a deadbeat who does not pay my bills. On the contrary, I have near perfect credit and have never been so much as a day late paying my mortgage (or any other bill), but SPS is a debt collector and only knows how pick-on and anger their customers whether it's their customer service representatives or their written correspondence. My husband and I are unfortunately behind by 4 months of our mortgage due to a lay off from his work and then I got laid off and we are down to one income. I filled out all the paperwork to do a modification and they stated that the Investor (Deutsche Bank) does not do modifications. So they stated they could do a loan repayment plan. They screwed up the amount my husband makes monthly and want us to pay 900.00 additional each month towards the mortgage. I called to rectify and they stated that they would go into foreclosure status and they don't care the amount was wrong that they used to calculate the repayment plan. What can we do? They will not help us at all. I have called them 3 times now and nothing; no help whatsoever and told us to make the payments according to their incorrect information. Is this not against the law?

I have been trying to purchase a home through the home owner who has their mortgage through SPS. The owner is very accommodating. The owners have been doing all kinds of paper work to begin a deed in lieu. After a year and half SPS said it too late in time to do a deed in lieu, they were forced into short sale. So they started all over again with jumping through hoops for SPS getting paper work started filling out the same forms for a deed in lieu. I guess SPS lost their copies?
I put my bid in according to what a contractor estimates were to make this home livable. The house is over 55 yrs old and absolutely no updating has been done. The original roof, wiring, no ac/heat, the house was flood and has mildew issues. The city has a $75,000 lien on the property/house. The house is a tear down, the value is in the land and that's even scary. The county appraisal is about $60K. I offered $30k and I would pay the city liens and all repairs to house.
SPS came back and said they refused my offer and would auction the house. After studying county auctions I realized that the plaintiff in this case SPS would out bid every one and win the house - they don't have to pay the auction price because they are the mortgage holder. So eventually the mortgage gets written off and they get the house for free. The 8 years that the home invested into payments plus the 10% deposit upon purchase the lender (SPS) keeps that plus the house. SPS also gets HUD to pay up to $12,000 towards liens and other government funded programs gives them money to rebuild and ready for market.
I also believe that SPS pays for the taxes on the properties if they purchase a tax deed certificate - they can get cold cash up to 20% interest depending on the county and state. SPS had an appraiser come out and give their assessment and said the house was worth just over $100k and it had a pool, 2 bathrooms, and 3 bedrooms. I have no idea what house the appraiser went to appraise. But this house only has 2 bedroom, NO POOL, no third bedroom. After submitting photos, to prove the house is not one of the same SPS refused to acknowledge the facts. They believe their house is worth $100, and they will fix it up for $130K plus settle the lien with the city.
Taking this house well above $240K this house at that point would out grown the neighborhood. The average house in that neighborhood, is about $150K and for a larger newer healthier home. SPS has shown no interest in coming to some conclusion to settle and sell the home. I believe they are just milking the government for all the money programs that are out there for them. SPS is controlling the resale market and creating homes to be in foreclosure then up on the auction block. No one will pay for the inflated before the bubble burst price on the home which was $100K. However SPS would place their bid in knowing it's inflated scaring all other buyers away. Then they gain control of the market one house at a time. I'm looking for an attorney who once worked for SPS so I could hire him/her. Only they understand SPS and SPS's weakness.

After submitting an extremely poor review on Select Portfolio I had to provide an update as the saga continues. Not only do we continue to fight with them to do their job and research a processing error on their end for inaccurately processing payments and refusing to do their job to identify the problem and correct it and remove the continued late fees they continue to add and accrue I was able to speak with an associate who I feel actually had morals and likes to sleep at night and actually acknowledged the problem and was willing to assist. However, I asked for documentation which I am still waiting on to support the error was identified; the person I spoken with is no longer to be found putting me back to ground zero working with this poor company. I am seeking a good lawsuit attorney and anyone else who continues to struggle with Select Portfolio to jump on the band wagon I am welcoming.

Have been in the loan mod "process" for 5+ yrs. I now rent out my house because I can't afford to live there and even though the 2nd was discharged and lien released, the house is still $150k underwater. I have not paid my mortgage in 5+ yrs, I have not been approved or disapproved for modification. I provide everything they ask for, but the documents become more than 90 days old, so must refile them all. Even though my account was not escrowed, Chase (original lender) agreed to pay taxes, insurance and said they would pay HOA fees. Now the HOA fees are 5 yrs delinquent - taxes have not been paid for 2014. Received notice of sale for property taxes and they still have not paid.
My tenants just received notice of rent garnishment from the HOA - the rent is 80% of my income. I've avoided filing bankruptcy for 6+ yrs, but now I have no choice. I make notes for every single call - including name of contact. I now email every document so I have a record of date as well as content. For any confusion, I send more documentation. I've become an expert at filing. It will be interesting to see how long they will delay. Bankruptcy will discharge my personal liability for the loan.
I will continue in the modification run around and collect rent until they make a decision. My credit's shot anyway. At some point, either the market will come back or I'll do a short sale. I doubt they will have approved or disapproved my modification by then. MOST IMPORTANT - I haven't figured out why they haven't foreclosed, but I am certain there is a reason. I am taking care of the home and the market is recovering - perhaps they're waiting. I have little left to lose. I have no equity - my credit is shot, but I'll keep sending the documentation until I either am approved or not.

This company is the real deal debt collector. They are far worse than Bank of America, which sold them my mortgage a few years ago. They that I am short $383.70 on my escrow account & I need to cut them a check for that amount, or they will add $61.43 a month to my payment for 12 months to satisfy the $383.70 they say we owe. So that's $61.43 x 12 = $756.00 over a year's time to pay off something we shouldn't even owe. We have had multiple mortgage companies & had never had to pay any extra for anything. We have always received a small refund. Not sure what to do. Not a lot of money, but times that x $1,000.00. This company needs to be shut down!!!!!!! Any one have any ideas or suggestions for what to do about this?
Other problems when the loan went from G of A to SPS. They charged me a late charge during the transitioning period which they promised me would not happen. Guess what!! I could copy and paste any complaint here, and it would be the same as my experience. My outcome DID result in a "modification" or what they call a modification. Basically, I am paying very little (maybe 110 dollars) towards my principal, the rest goes to insurance and taxes, they put me in a 5 year modification. My balance on my mortgage is only 31,000. I was behind 4 months (lack of work). After 5 years, I'll have paid off my past due balance and still have a balloon payment due of 28,000. What a joke. This is not a modification, my percentage rate stayed at 6.5%. All I'm doing is paying back past due amount and they gave me 5 years to do it. NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR. I want the loan to be completely paid off in 5 years.
As soon as my credit rating improves (I'm working on it) I'll be finding another mortgage company to give my business to. THIS COMPANY SHOULD BE TAKEN TO COURT. They're deceptive and not honest. It took me a year and a half just to send them documents because they kept losing them, or they would expire, you name it, they had an excuse. Once I threatened them with getting a lawyer a few times, then they resolved it. Which in my opinion this is not resolved. This just benefits them, not me at all!!! UGH.

Never talk to the same person, they keep saying they never receive info I've sent numerous times, and they keep raising my mortgage. Twelve years I never had a late payment til BOA gave this crooked company my account. I even just found out they are still charging me for home insurance even though this was supposedly settled almost a year ago when I gave them the proof of my policy.
Why this company is still allowed to operate is ridiculous and shows the corruption and relationships of govt and these companies. I should be allowed to get these govt modifications on my own because obviously SPS doesn't want to lose money through lower interest and will never allow anyone to, whether eligible or not. Shame on the state representatives that allow this, and shame on those who keep voting these crooks back in.

Need advice. Has anyone on this forum ever gotten this far?? We had a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy discharged over 3 years ago. We did NOT reaffirm our house. Since then Chase passed our mortgage over to SPS. We have not paid any money at all to them in over 3 years. We have great credit scores and would be approved for a new mortgage at this point. We were never late on this mortgage or any other bills for that matter. (We owned another house that ended up having a bad title and was held up in an estate and long story short we had to let that house go, so our primary residence was also thrown in because the market had tanked and we were upside down by over $150,000 and our credit was already going to take a hit for the foreclosure on the other property.)
We still live in this house and have applied for multiple modifications (which SPS keeps dragging out for various reasons). They have "lost" or "not received" particular paperwork too many times to even count. Well finally, we got a letter that said Congratulations! They approved us for a modification. But in the body of the 3-5 page letter it had 2 contradictory items. It said that they were going to forgive $127,000 (past due mortgages/post BK) yet in the same letter it says we were not approved for any loan forgiveness???
The table where the monetary figures are all laid out, shows the forgiveness of the money, but the narrative says... no forgiveness. Because we could walk away debt free (not liable because of BK), we are hesitant to begin the 3 month trial period. We have called at least 10 times this last week and every person (even managers) DO NOT know what to tell us. Everyone on their end is telling us different things. 1. "Yes it appears it'll be forgiven." 2. "No, it'll be tacked on at the end of the 30 year modification." 3. "That will be decided after the trial period is completed."
I understand that we have been living here and not paying for years now, but we would be silly to accept this offer and start off underwater by over $127,000. The modification offer is already 80,000 over the current value as it is. BUT, we need the deed out of our names if we do decide to walk. So, then my next question is... do we ask them to do the Deed in Lieu to speed up the process of getting our names off?
(BTW, we applied for a mortgage 6 months ago and were initially approved based on our credit, 3 years out of BK, etc. But before settlement, the fact that this deed was still in our name was a deal breaker.) So, do the trial and just see what happens with the $127,000 that MIGHT be forgiven? Or Walk and try to do the Deed in Lieu? Or walk and don't do the DIL? Also, I don't trust SPS. I have a feeling we will pay about $7500 in the 3 month trial and then they'll drop the ball and this whole process will start over.

This company is very hard to work with. No business ethics and they are a very sad company which cannot follow what they put in writing. My loan was sold to them from Wells Fargo Bank and that’s when the nightmare began. I tried to work with them in many ways. I always got different answers from each person I talked to. So the wife and I had it with them so we had refinanced our loan with Embrace Loans, which saved us $600.00 a month.
Now our problem is they still have not refunded our Escrow Account to us. Now according to the documents sent to Embrace Loans, our Escrow Account should have been paid to us approximately Fourteen days after the payoff is completed. Select Portfolio Servicing INC received full payment on the 6th of February 2015 in which they should have refunded our escrow account no later than the 20th of February 2015 which is the 14 days.
It’s now the 23rd of February 2015 and still nothing from them, we have called to see what’s going on and why haven’t we received payment, but we are told they have up to 30 days to pay us, but we would tell them according to what they sent Embrace Loans they only have 14 days, they would always tell us someone will call us, and to this day no one from that company has contacted us. Once we finally receive our payment, I plan on filing a lawsuit against them and sue for interest, I figure if they can do it to us, then we should be able to do the same.

My adjustable rate mortgage was sold to them by Bank of America, who over the course of six years, denied every request for modification until they just decided to block me from ever applying for a modification with them again. I was knee deep into foreclosure when SPS became my servicer. I immediately applied for a modification through them, and I wasn't even three months into the account with SPS when they put me on a trial payment plan. I successfully completed the plan and my loan was modified just two weeks after they received the final trial payment. Our loan started out with U.S. Bank and over a short number of years we have had 17, yes, you read that right, 17 different mortgage companies. Now, we are with Select Portfolio Servicing. They have put on their file that we are in bankruptcy when we aren't. They have sent harassing letters, stating that we do not have insurance on our home and property when we do. They have changed our payment amount many times, always increasing the amount we are supposed to pay. They say that we are delinquent on our payments when we have NEVER been late and never missed a payment. We have finally retained an attorney to try to help us with this matter.
We have never seen such irresponsibility in a mortgage company. We found Consumer Affairs when doing a Google search and could hardly believe our eyes as we were reading the number of complaints against this particular mortgage company. We truly feel the pain that each person is going through with this company and hope by making this complaint that it may help others who may be going through the same situation as we are in with Select Portfolio Servicing. We pray our attorney can get this matter resolved and that we can find a different (and honest) loan company to refinance with.

So after I expected the worst, I got the ombudsman involved and the whole process was monitored. It took a very long time, but it is only fair to provide an accurate update. My loan modification was completed very much to my satisfaction; even though it took a profoundly long time to do so and SPS was very vague the entire time about what was going on. I feared the worst and in the end I got a good, permanent modification, reasonable terms and I don't ever have to endure this process again. So it is likely I misunderstood what was happening and that SPS was doing their due diligence. My stress levels have gone down and I am prospering now that I can focus my energies on my life and career now instead of freaking out about whether or not I was going to lose my house.
So why the rating? SPS needs to improve their communication. Customers don't understand mortgage language and could use a lot more information about the process and what to expect. Buying a house is the largest purchase any of us will make in our life and by far the most life-changing. Providing vague information is very unhelpful.

Everyone, these problems are real. I am having the same ones. This company took bailout money and are supposed to be modifying our mortgages and operating business in a regular manner. WRITE YOUR CONGRESS REPRESENTATIVES NOW! Demand a congressional investigation. Congress approved the bailout money to go to these jerks and they are deliberately mismanaging our loans to force us into foreclosure so they can make a bigger profit. The people I talk to there lie to me three different ways on one topic in the same breath.
First they say they never received my tax return, then they are looking at my tax return and insist my business income is not on it. Then when I tell them what line it shows on both schedule C and then shows again on the 1040 form they say they don't have it in front of them. File complaints on these guys everywhere. They have lost every form I have sent them then they can't find information on it and they seem unable to understand the information they are looking at. A 9th grader could do a better job. Look up all the places to file complaints at makinghomeaffordable. But contact your congress rep and demand an investigation. Mine is ED PERLMUTTER.

We have had the same dealings with SPS. Have been trying to modify our loan but due to missing payments and having a conventional mortgage and not FHA they have told us that once they (SPS) agree to reinstate the loan, we would have our past due balance owed plus an additional $135K added to the balance. (Not fees... So they say... Past due inflated insurance and past due property taxes... Wow Putting our house mortgage at $400K- $430K.) The house was on Zillow estimate for $328K and they said the value was at $357K but they want us to finance over 400K!!!! How does that help? Offering us a "deferred" principle on the loan so....
Let's see... We pay on only part of the principle, "to make it affordable" (yea right!) then the remaining balance is due in a big balloon payment! Really? Have to mention that when they explained to me that when they have approved the refinance they will only give us a monthly amount. Not disclosing what the actual loan conditions would be. We are to pay the 3 months then we would be able to see the loan conditions, (amount, rate, term etc.) and decide if we want to continue. Of course if we aren't comfortable with the agreement they propose, we are out the 3 months payments. They say this show "good faith" on our part!
Really? How is this legal. I believe once we make a payment that gives them the legal acceptance without us ever seeing or agreeing to the loan terms & conditions they have put together. They are putting us in a worse position by being upside down from the get go! Where is all this mortgage relief we (tax payers) gave to help with these situations? Seems like a total double dip! Not surprised... Some loop hole I am sure and then the greed seeps out and screws the people really in need of the help! Unreal!

Select Portfolio Servicing has a website that must be one of the worst in the financial industry. When I go online to pay my mortgage, to protect my security (a worthy cause), I am told that I must have a code, and if I do not, press continue and one will be emailed, but if I do not receive it, request again. If the email does come, it is usually after the time for which it is a valid code, i.e. x-plus hours BEYOND its validity. The alternative of telephoning has resulted in more than 30 minutes in its holding tree, constantly encouraging me to go to its (non-responsive) website. When the phone operator gives me a code verbally, it has been the same 'expired' code that no longer works. SPS seems to be less than interested in address the problem.

This company really sucks with communication, they ask you to send in all the necessary paperwork. You send it in, you call them and they tell you "No, we haven't received it," so they want you to fax it, so I did. Then I called them and they told me that it's going to take a few days for them to review the information that I have sent them. Little did I know that they were in the process of foreclosing on my home, so once I had the opportunity to speak to an individual I was informed that once my home was sold to them by BOA, they reported that I was behind on my mortgage, which I was not, because I had gotten a modification with NACA.
I wrote the President of BOA and he was informed of what was going on. He wrote back and everything was supposed to have been settled. Well, SPS told me that I need to do a Home Affordable Modification, so before I go any further when I got my home modified with NACA my interest rate was 2% fixed and I was happy with that. I guess BOA was not happy so they got rid of me. They sold me to SPS.
When I tell you all that this company SUCKS, I REALLY MEAN SUCKS. THEY HAVE NO GOOD COMMUNICATION SKILLS, THEY DON'T COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER, ONE PERSON DON'T KNOW WHAT THE OTHER PERSON IS DOING. You talk to so many people before you get to your representative that is handling your loan, you switch representers without knowing, you get so much mail from them saying the same thing over and over.
I hate this company. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO UNHAPPY LIKE I AM NOW WITH THIS COMPANY. I WISH MY MORTGAGE CAN BE SOLD TO SOMEONE ELSE. SPS IS THE WORST COMPANY IN THE WORLD TO DO BUSINESS WITH. I don't understand why my mortgage was sold in the first place. Can anyone explain that to me?
When you call them on the phone to make your monthly mortgage payment, they want to ask you so many questions that the recording has already asked. If you have a recording asking you this why do they come right behind them and ask the same thing, then they want to ask you so many personal questions as why you waited to the last day to make your payment, what is your address, what phone number do you want to add to this account, did you know there's a charge for taking your mortgage payment over the phone, why is that? I AM SO DISSATISFIED WITH SELECT PORTFOLIO SERVICES. I WISH I COULD LEAVE THIS COMPANY.

A company that makes such a claim and still has plenty of unhappy customers is doing something wrong. When I saw that SPS took over our loan my heart sank, I knew I was in trouble. I have been late on my mortgage because of a 6-month layoff. Had one modification while with my previous mortgage company to avoid a balloon disaster. So now I just have to get caught up somehow. I have been making regular payments with a little extra toward the amount owed. But my loan still went into default. Yes the loan is underwater.
I've been living in the house for over 14 years. I mean really?? I have to give it up because SPS will not approve my modification. I just need a little more time to get caught up. I have been trying to work overtime and even land a part time job but it just doesn't seem to be good enough. I'm just finding it hard to have faith in a company whose customers are experiencing similar treatment. That is losing paperwork, having to resend documents and then telling you it was received late or never received.
SPS seems to target/buy particular types of loans, giving false hope to the homeowners then going in for the "kill". I am sooo very disturbed by all this. Losing sleep, trouble focusing on my job etc. etc. Something has got to be done. First I feel cheated by the brokers who told me that I can modify, only to see the housing market crash right in front of me. Yes, I feel stupid. I can except that but I'm finding hard to swallow my pride when it comes to losing my home. I've learned a lot from all this, but the cost involves more than just money. I will probably never buy another home... The American dream is not being homeowner.

IN OCTOBER 2013 - THE DAY MY LOAN MODIFICATION WAS TO GO INTO EFFECT WITH JP MORGAN CHASE BANK. MY LOAN WAS TRANSFERRED TO SPS. I then got a letter stating from SPS that I had to file a RMA form. This is a request for mortgage assistance. Since that time I have sent thousands of pages of tax returns, bank statements, lease copies and payments. The cycle goes like this: You get a request for information. You send what they asked for. Next they send a letter stating "all info is received, ready to go to underwriting". Four days later you get a letter saying more information is needed within 29-44 days. I wait 28 days and send them what they requested. Three days later you get a letter stating "all information is received". The cycle begins again. Every three months they send out a local real estate broker. Usually someone you have never heard of- either by name or firm. This person wants to do A BPO. That translates into a BROKER PRICE OPINION. Then you get more letters stating that The professional advisor has been by. That you will get a report of his findings, when it is complete. Of course it never is nor will it ever be.
This is hard on tenants. They usually move out after the second BPO. Just comply with the requests, when they request an IRS K-4, or other form you have never heard of. Wait 27 days- print one out on the web, and write in big black letters- NOT A CORPORATE OWNED PROPERTY. Send it certified, return receipt requested. Buy a telephone message book like used in businesses. Write down all SPS calls. If the phone calls bother you- you can send a CEASE AND DESIST letter. Demand that they only contact you by US MAIL, UPS or FED-EX. You might also want to set up a designated Hotmail, Google, Yahoo or G-mail account just for them. Have fun with them folks!

Simple process. I was with Citi Mortgage for 10 years, never late, great credit score, etc. Went to refi, get a better rate, was at 5.5% jumbo, told I did not qualify???? Had to pursue a HOPE loan, qualified right away. Got the loan, new term. No payback, no forgiveness, etc, just change in terms. I wanted 30 year they made it 40 year, rate lowered by 1/2 percent. Suddenly SPS gets my loan, dirtbag central. Lost my first payment, had to get Bank of America to call them to tell them they were dumb ** and lost the payment. Problem solved. Got mortgage statement, still said I owed 2 months. Not correct, called and cleared it up. Then I noticed a charge of $6.50 for BEG BOARDED BALANCE - no idea what it was. Agent said it was for unpaid misc. for old lender. I said "BD, what was the charge." He looked back 3 years - could find nothing. Another scam to steal money. They reversed charges. They will LIE to you, charge tiny amount in hope you will pay or ignore. Next step in 30 days is to file complaints. Dirtbags all.

Had a Countrywide to B of A account. Needed a modification, however had to be behind. Tried to work out deal with B of A, then 7 months later loan transferred to Select Portfolio. Attempted twice to modify, with negative results and about 8 different letters changing my advisor. Received continued phone harassment even after trying to modify. Nothing working, so decided to short sale. In the interim wrote several letters to them requesting who was the mortgage note holder. Like others, SPS had all the right paperwork then not. SPS turned loan over the Nationstar.
After having sold the house, come to find out that B of A had sold the loan in '09, then again in '12 (county titles) to the same group trustee Wells Fargo. After that B of A turned it over the SPS 6 months after title transfer. SPS had no legal authority to handle my loan which was apparent when Nationstar took over. To sell the house Nationstar had to get a power of attorney from Wells Fargo. My next step is going to the credit bureaus, as B of A, SPS and Nationstar had no authority to turn me in for being late. They did not own, trustee or service the loan. This is a per county records. The other kicker is B of A robo-signed a title change to Nationstar which was caught by the title company.

I have my mortgage with SPS. I unfortunately fell behind. I was eligible for a loan modification BUT what SPS did was blame a glitch in their system so that it took almost 17 months to get me the modification approval so the interest kept accumulating. So my original balance was $48k, now I owe $105k and my payments went from $486.00 to $737.00 per month. So that is what is meant by helping the consumer? But they deny any glitch now although I have ALL the names & dates I spoke with them. I am fed up. The house is only worth $40k so guess what, they can have the house back. They are predators! I can't afford to hire an attorney to fight them. I just give up!!

My mortgage used to be with Springleaf. I was notified that on October 1, 2014 it was changing to SPS. Well on October 3 I tried to make a payment and I was told I could not. It was going to take 60 days to put the account in their system, so I asked for a letter stating that I was not going to pay interest for those 60 days. I went on to explain that I been making payments weekly to pay off my mortgage within the next two years. There is no way they can send you a letter, email or fax to state there will be no interest charged. So, what do I just take your word for it? I hung up and called again and spoke to a different person who said I could mail in the payment or send it electronic free of charge, or I can pay by phone for a 15 dollar fee.
I sent my payment electronic, but I noticed on their website that the payment was not applied to my account. Now I call again, I am told that since I don't owe a payment they leave it there unapplied. WHAT??... By this time I am about to lose my temper, and I tell them that I don't want my money sitting there, to either send it back to me or apply it. The man I spoke with told me he was going to talk to the cashiering department and he was going to put me on hold. He came back about 4 minutes later to tell me that the payment would be applied the next day.
My mistake was that I did not check back with them and sent the 2nd payment to them a week later, then went to check on their website. To my surprise now I had 2 payments unapplied. I call and spent about 2 hours on the phone with the person who answered who told me "I am sorry lady but the IRS will not allow you to make extra payments that is why they are unapplied." It took such effort not to call her an uneducated moron. Politely I asked, "What does the IRS have to do with your company?" She said she had to talk to her manager. Well she came back and we argued back and forth until I asked to speak with a manager.
Needless to say that I have made 12 payments since October 1st and with each payment I spend at least 2 days on the phone with them for about 2 to 3 hours trying to get my payments applied. I am not late, I am paid way ahead of time, but I have the aggravation I have to go thru on a weekly basis because of them. I feel I should be compensated for the time I spend on the phone with these idiots telling them what to do with the payments I send them.

I got a letter saying I owed October & November payments to SPS. I got no letter from Springleaf but they returned my payment to me to the bank. So I paid the double payment which was very hard for me on soc sec. Today I got 3 letters from SPS - one saying they say they received an Assistance Review Application from me. I didn't apply for anything from them. I'm upset that I had contract with one company and now I have to deal with one with horrible reviews.
I tried to find out what's going on and found a paper written by McKinney.com in 2009 Insights & Publications. "Understanding the Bad Bank." It describes how the banks & government can get the banks more investors by separating their business into good bank & bad banks. They have a plan to get their employees to work at the bad bank & can return to the core bank after the accounts in the bad banks are all disposed of through "workouts". They did this on a smaller scale in 1988. The 1st step was to separate them internally which Springleaf did, then to separate them externally to make their books look better to investors. Since the government is involved with it, I don’t know what to do. We can contact the Federal Reserve. I've not tried that yet. We can contact news shows to see if they would do a story. We can march in the streets like other groups are doing now.

SPS has completely failed me. They have given me conflicting information, denied to recognize data I have supplied to them, and helped lead me into foreclosure. SPS has denied every attempt I have gone through with them to save my home and have lastly denied a Deed-in-Lieu, giving me a completely false reason for the denial. SPS said I refused to allow their representative to enter my home for a required walk through. That is an out-and-out lie! I have called SPS twice to inform them that I was concerned because I had not heard from any representative regarding setting up an appointment to come to my home to complete the required walk through and was told that a representative was not available at this time and when one became available I would be notified.
Today, almost two months later I have received a letter from SPS stating my Deed-in-Lieu request is being denied for refusal to send in the needed documentation. When I called them on the phone to get clarification of what they were talking about in the letter, I was told by one of their relationship managers that my request was being denied due to failure to let their representative enter my home. I told the relationship manager that I had not been contacted by anyone from SPS regarding entering my home for a walk through inspection and she flat out said that it was very hard for her to believe that I was telling the truth. It was clear she wanted to get me to engage in an argument with her, as her tone was very confrontational.
I did not argue or get angry, I just told her repeatedly I had no reason to not go through every phase of their process and was eager to remove myself and belongings from the property through the Deed-in-Lieu process. SPS has such a bad reputation and works very hard to separate homeowners from their property. They have no regard for the families they are making homeless. What can I do? I need help!

My experience is similar to the many complaints already logged no response from SPS for a year and then a request for immediate response, no one at SPS who knows my case and can answer questions, no signatures on contracts generated by them, etc. There is always the personal fear of retribution for speaking out, which is why we are all kept separate and apart from one another.
It's obvious that we (consumers/mortgagees) are dealing with an unethical company authorized by the big banks (Chase, Bank of America, etc.) which our tax payer money bailed out in Oct. 2008, transferring private debt to public debt without the consent of the citizenry. This is a problem of huge and national importance, as there is no oversight, no legal process and no human consideration for the millions of lives SPS is impacting adversely. What are we tolerating and why? Is there an attorney out there who will take on this company on behalf of all of us? If so, would you please post to this site and get the ball rolling immediately?
It is prohibitively expensive for us as individuals to fight the giant corporations behind this. Local judges don't want to set precedent in ruling against them. We need a national class action suit to close this company and put the responsibility for dealing with consumers back on the original mortgage lender, or to forgive our debt as we have forgiven theirs.
I realize there is no way to communicate between us, as this site does not permit replies between consumer posts. I do not understand that. This site has gathered our personal information and I would like to know how it is used and who has access to it? I hope we will continue to communicate here as a forum and find a way to call to account the illegal and outrageous practices of SPS.

My original home loan with Springleaf Financial, after ten years, was transferred to Springleaf Mortgage and then within a month or so transferred again to Select Portfolio Servicing. Each transition was difficult because you could no longer pay on line and after calling them they didn't have my loan set up in their system yet. They said there was a 60 day grace period to make paying while this transfer was taking place. I received a letter stating that and the next day they called me as if I was avoiding payment, when, in fact, I was trying to bring them up on line daily without success. So, I made that payment with the SPS rep over the phone. It cost me $15 to make a phone payment. And they said there was another $45 charge and did I want to pay that also. I asked, for what? The girl didn't seem to know what it was for, but said I didn't really have to pay it. I'm thinking what kind of scam is this.
Then today I just received my first statement from SPS and they recorded my Oct payment showing $3.05 was applied to the principal and $1,023.43 was applied towards interest. I called them immediately and the customer rep (a young girl) said that according to my loan agreement, blah, blah, blah (some kind of double talk explanation that made no sense at all) and I told her she was wrong and explained to her the terms of my loan agreement. She put me on hold (this is the third time putting me on hold in order to research the answer to my various questions) and said that I was right and they would be sending out a corrected statement to reflect what my payment has always shown with Springleaf Financial. So, I'll wait and see what they come up with.
In the meantime, I have read many negative comments about SPS by customers who were previously Springleaf Financial customers. Someone should check into the way they conduct business. They seem to be trying to scam their clients.

I was on the phone 15 times with SPS who said they were the servicer. Chase said no.
In early May I sent SPS a certified letter asking for an audit of this account, or I would file fraud charges. They were cashing both payments, but only crediting 1 on the account. In late May customer service at SPS writes me and tells me they are servicing only 1 account, the other went into their escrow account. I explained to them this is not an escrow loan and to return the 2nd payment that was an overpayment to me or to Chase. They refused so I deducted the overpayment from them and sent it to Chase.

Bank of America then sold the mortgage loan to Select Portfolio Servicing.
I have been working with Select Portfolio Servicing on assistance with the loan modification since February 2014, which it is now September 30, 2014. I was told that it would take approximately 4 to 6 weeks for the modification to go through. Every time I have called in and spoke with the relationship manager covering my loan modification case, they ask us to send in information for the modification review even though I had already sent the information into their company and had documentation to prove this information was received by them. They have tons of information in their database of information I had sent into them. Apparently, the representatives did not go back far enough or know where to look. I finally did get a call from one of the relationship managers, not the one working on my case and was told that there was an issue with something they did and he found the error to resolve the problem and forward my modification loan up to the Loan Officer before going to the Underwriter.
I have been patiently waiting and need assistance; however, it has now been 7 months or so and the modification has not been completed. I keep being told that it has been forwarded up to the correct individual to be reviewed. Am I ever going to get assistance with this or do I need to contact the Better Business Bureau and go from there. Does anyone know what I should or could do to get this resolved? Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

My loans for my home was with Bank of America; all 4 loans. But they transferred the loans to SPS and Bayview loans, another awful servicing company; they are not even a bank. Since I was behind on two mortgages, I did a deed in lieu for the one that had the highest amount owed and stayed with the 2nd. I was assured by the reps and folks that based on HAFA and all the government programs that I would get help. I did as they asked; I have applied for Modification for my primary home and now they keep losing paper work and even have filed foreclosure and have a sale date which is fraudulent. I offered to pay most of the late payments and they keep denying saying they will consider after 30 modification review. However, that day never happens. Meanwhile the other house is not in foreclosure or any auction sale date and they rescinded the deed in lieu. Do banks servicing companies have special laws that the average person does not? I have gotten an attorney via community Legal Services of Northern California. They are appealing their fraudulent, predatory practices and documenting everything for me but she did say that this might warrant a lawsuit against SPS.
Please let me know, I am ready to take this to the final hour because it is absolute crap that a lender servicing company can refuse payments and try to disposes a family of their home, create further stress simply because it is better for them because all the money that is generated when a property sells. They are very skilled at sending a multitude of denial letters, I have about 100! Ridiculous. We could have worked out a payment plan about 7 months ago but despite my efforts they get away by discriminating people that do not have the legal muscle to put them in their place. But this is an educated consumer with time and effort; I will do some magnificent work too and they will not take my house!! Any suggestions I can be reached at **. The worst part is I even had a local teacher tell me, "I saw your name and your house being advertised for an auction. What are you going to do? Can we help you sue them?" Can we even call this liable? This is truly unbelievable! That they have that much power, customer reps capriciously deleting your modifications! This will not go easy SPS!!!

Home affordable? What's that? SPS can't tell me, much less approve me for any modification. Still missing documents is their motto, and conflicting information is their rap. OMG, these other reviews send chills up and down my spine! Over the course of 16 months and probably longer, I have applied and reapplied for HAMP a half dozen times through these people, prompted by all of their identical form letters following each denial, only to be denied again, after being told from the outset that I was a "perfect fit" for this program. Now, due to all of the delays over their "so-called" reviews, I am so many payments behind, there's apparently no "hope" left for me to keep my home, not even from the HOPE hotline. My only apparent option is to short-sale, which they now lightheartedly encourage me to do, but can I really trust anything they say at this juncture?
I've secured a short-sale specialist who has dealt with SPS, but also have a court hearing Oct 13, received just days after the most recent denial, and I fear the worst. Even if I go in with an offer, at the very least a short-sale listing agreement, will the judge grant the extra time, or set a sale date and I wind up with a foreclosure? Will SPS cooperate, or come up with more excuses? Your guess is as good as mine based on personal experience and what I've seen here. Missing documents, expired applications, insufficient income, too much income, everything received, don't have that info, can't tell you what the magic number is, you never get the same answer twice... with the exception of course of documents still missing. Bottom line, I have been lied to and misled through the entire process. The mediation was especially a joke.
Over the phone, SPS said income was sufficient, "looks good", don't need to add another contributor, even given a payment amount, while lender's attorney ends meeting with "at an impasse". Then several days later, DENIED by SPS. Have to wonder how any of these people sleep at night. Class action? Where do I sign up? Was praying to remain locally and be close to new grand-daughter, but moving out of state to cheaper "rental" area is my next destination now. Thank you so much SPS for making my nightmares come true!

There is no point in me stating my issues with SPS because they are the SAME as everyone else on here. I want to know NOW WHAT?!? I feel trapped, and I keep hearing all the comments about how they need to be brought up on charges, have a suit filed against them, etc. BUT HOW? Because I literally cannot do this anymore. They just sent me another letter stating that they didn't have my affidavit and I knew they did, so I called them on it. Now they are saying they have it but that Section 6 wasn't filled out. It states right on there (Complete this section ONLY if you are requesting mortgage assistance with a property that is not your principal residence). Which I am not doing, so did not fill it out, and now they are saying I was supposed to and that they will not proceed unless I fill it out and fax it in!!!!!
When I pointed that out to the 'Relationship Manager, and told her I would not fill it out, she said that was my choice but that they would not proceed with the modification. I literally cannot do this anymore. It has destroyed our credit dealing with this company. We can't do anything get credit anywhere... I couldn't even rent a violin for my daughter for school, even though we have more than enough funds to do so. So my question again is NOW WHAT??? How do we fix this? Who do we turn to get rid of this company????

I am so unhappy with them. I tried to get my interest rate down, and they said they can't help unless I miss payments and do a modification. But to do a modification you have to make sure to make the payment for 90 days, which increased my payment, because they had to include my taxes and my insurance. So I did what they asked. After the 3 months, they lowered my interest rate, I believe by a 1/2 of a percent. When I made early payments they applied my payment to an escrow account, so I had to fight for months to get this switched around. I told them I wasn't making any more payments until the account was corrected and I was told what to pay. I am trying to get another loan now, and I was denied because of a late payment due to SPS mistake.

I have been dealing with SPS since 2000. When they produced a forged mortgage contract on my property. Claiming that they owned the mortgage however they had no assignment documents. Then in 2005 they filed a fraudulent foreclosure action. Which is still going to this day cause first SPS's lawyer who filed the complaint failed to comply with the laws. Then that lawyer bailed out on the case. Which time the law firm of ECKERT SEAMANS CHERIN & MELLOTT got involved. And they went through 5 lawyers against me.
The last 2 lawyers were not listed as council of record but started filing documents in the case. Which never complied with any laws. Now those 2 lawyers filed papers to try and get out of the case and the judge DENIED their request. Now it is getting to the point where the lawyers are crying that I have cost them 250K in legal fees and SPS has stopped paying them. Me I'm just having fun with them right now but soon I will go in for the kill.

SPS took over servicing my loan in October 2013. My previous mortgage lender was Worldwide Financial Resources which was indicted for $11 million in mortgage fraud in 2009. Worldwide financial tried to foreclose on my house in 2009, but when it went to court they didn't have all the necessary document so it was thrown out of court. Since 2009 up to 2013 there were no contact from anyone on my mortgage, until SPS took over. I keep asking them for the original document like the original title and note and they keep sending me the original refinance note dated in 2006, with worldwide on it. The refinance note is a complete fraud, they preyed on me to do the refinance, then coerce me to sign my husband name as power of attorney the day before he passed away. The payer on the note filed bankruptcy due to regulation, and worldwide was indicted for mortgage fraud. I asked them for information on who owns the mortgage now and who are they servicing it for and they haven't come back to me with that information.
I have applied for a modification 3 times with them and each time they denied me. They call me every week asking for a payment and I told them I wasn't making a payment to them until they show me the necessary docs showing me who they are servicing the loan for. They keep threaten to transfer it to a lawyer for foreclosure, but they know that they still don't have the necessary docs in order to go to court to proceed with the foreclosure. I suggest that if SPS is collecting money from you or trying to foreclose on you that you request the original docs from them.

My payments went from $1046,00 to 1320.00 for escrow in 2011. I get a letter of foreclose if they did not pay $10,000 in back taxes and fees. I spoken to SPS customer service a numerous times trying to explain the loan modification. SPS denied ever putting the taxes on the arrear of the loan.
The loan mod was for miss payments and lawyers fees.. which is not true. I showed payments. SPS said they never received the payments. And the threats continued. If this is not paid in 30 days my house will be foreclosed. What I had agreed to do is a forbearance payment plan for 6 months. 2300.00 Plus my regular payment 1320.00 Totaling 3620.00 a month. To bring loan current, continued until final payment in Aug 2012, totaling over $14,000. I thought all was clear. Until I got a letter stating I broke the agreement because the last payment was late and SPS said they never received. This company had been falsifying claims against me since taking over this loan. They are a rip-off. I am fully exhausted, my savings is depleted.
Dec 2012 I finally got someone in the audit department to look over this loan. It took 6 months of fighting with SPS that their audit is wrong. SPS stated that payments was misrouted towards the principal and could not be reverse. Is this my fault. SPS should had been held liable for their error of misrouting. But SPS is stating I had to set up a forbearance to 7000 for payments and fees miss. 1800.00 for 6 month. My last payment was June 2014. This needs to stop. I signed off on the modification with BofA only to get a letter at the end of the process saying the loan was being transferred to Select Portfolio Servicing. Fortunately, prior to the transfer to SPS, I received the approved signed and notarized loan modification from BoA.
Upon getting the letter that SPS was going to be the new mortgage servicer, I checked this website about SPS and read some of the horror stories. Now, I too can add to the horror stories of dealing with SPS. Since they've been assigned my loan, they have yet to update their system to the terms of my approved loan modification. I've receive harassing phone calls and letters of default. All the while, I've been making my loan payments to the terms of the approved loan modification. I have spoken to numerous "customer service" representatives and no one follows through with their commitments to get back to me.
My loan has been "escalated" multiple times and to date the loan is still not booked in their system the terms of the approved loan modification. I've threatened legal action citing breach of contract with SPS and yet they still don't return my calls. I'm going to actually talk to my Attorney to discuss my options. I agree with others on this site there needs to be Class Action litigation against SPS. I would gladly take part in a legal action. I thought Bank of America was bad; SPS is even worse! We recently filed a loss claim, for storm damage to our home, to our insurance company. When we received a check to begin the repairs, the check was made out to us and to our mortgage company which was fine. However, there was a third payee name: this company called "Select Portfolio Servicing". I had never heard of this company before until the day I received this insurance check. I immediately assumed it must be a branch from my mortgage company so I called for instructions as to where to send them the check for signature etc etc. I mentioned "Select Portfolio Servicing" to my mortgage company and they said they knew nothing about that company and that I should call my insurance company and make them aware that Select Portfolio company has nothing to do with my mortgage company.
I did this and I'm hopeful this will take care of things, but this is very alarming to think that any company can just call and get their name claiming stake on any person's mortgage without any documentation. I say no documentation because I had never heard of this company before much less talked to anyone from said company. After my insurance company advised me to call "Select Portfolio Servicing" and ask why their name would be appearing on my home records, I did call them and they said they had no account with my name on it. So I just want to let people know that this sounds like it may be a fraudulent company. I intend to send a letter to the credit reporting agencies and to our Attorney Generals office notifying them of this situation. After reading what some people have written about "Select Portfolio Servicing," I am afraid on not doing anything and finding out years down the road that they somehow laid claim to my property fraudulently.

This company preys on the sub-prime mortgage market. Through organized fraud, deceptive lending and predatory lending practices, they swindle thousands, if not millions of dollars from honest, hardworking people. They hid behind their affiliation with major banks to continue this insidious process. They have stolen over six thousand dollars from me and forced me into foreclosure (in conjunction with Deutsche Bank), even though I had no problem making my $630 a month mortgage payment.
If you have been victimized by SPS, it is important that you take action. Contact your US Senators, US Representative, State Senators and Reps., your state Attorney General and/or consumer protection agency. Also, contact Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee, Utah's US Senators, and the Utah Attorney General. Utah is SPS's HQ. It is important that you contact ALL of these entities. The more they all hear from thousands of people, the more pressure they will have to act. Don't bother with a long sob stories about how they have cheated, defrauded and deceived you. It's like a broken record, and SPS's M.O. When you contact these entities, demand they investigate this company and its consumer fraud behavior. Also, it is a good idea to contact the TV station and newspaper investigative reporters in your area and tip them to a hot story.

First I want to thank every homeowner who has written their experience up here. Mine is a complete disaster... I put 40% down on my home. I am NOT a "Sub-prime" borrower. If I and other homeowners who put money down on their homes like me got together on the news, we would scare buyers away from this already weak market. I invested in my community here in Southern Oregon.
As a single mom, I have been applying since 2007 - when Bush was still in office - for a "Loan Modification". First with Washington Mutual who acquired my loan from now defunct Greenpoint Mortgage. I was actually approved by WaMu and told the papers were in the mail... However, you all know the history ... WaMu collapsed. Before I could get the papers. Ok... So as Obama was being inaugurated, I was applying again with "WaMu Is Becoming Chase".
Keep in mind I was making timely payments on my mortgage the whole time... for three long years while I kept applying for loan modifications with Chase Bank. I even had a "negotiator" at the "WaMu is Becoming Chase" bank who never returned or called me. Ok... I kept getting rejected from Chase... excuses ranging from, "you need to re-apply because we are getting a new computer system", etc... This went on at Chase until August of 2010 when I was laughed at and told that the real reason why I kept getting rejected on my loan mod applications was because I WAS PAYING ON TIME! And that Chase could not help me get a loan mod until I stopped paying and was behind on my payments...
Fast forward to August 2013 - As soon as I received and signed the check from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency's Investigation (Independent Foreclosure Review) for the fraud by Chase bank regarding my numerous loan mod applications with them (at last count approximately 12)... Chase sold my note to Select Portfolio Servicing.
The same treatment on the telephone at SPS is no different than Chase Bank. I have been applying for a loan modification with SPS now. (Application attempt # 13 since 2007 - when Bush was in office). Same excuses. Typically, what Chase Bank did is the SAME thing I am experiencing right now in June and July 2014 with SPS... They claim there are "missing" or "incomplete documents" on the phone and try to tell you on the phone but when you ask them to put their "missing" or "incomplete documents" complaints in a written letter to you, SPS representatives - including several "managers" - always object to sending you a written letter detailing and outlining for you regarding your specific loan and your specific case EXACTLY WHAT specific documents they allege are missing.
This is the scam, folks. While these SPS people are doing this, they are happily adding up all kinds of daily miscellaneous fees, late fees, interest and other fees to your loan, thereby making the dollar amount you owe them go up... while they continue to play these games of sending you GENERIC general statements in the mail that claim they are "missing" or are "incomplete documents" while refusing to tell you WHAT specific documents - IN WRITTEN LETTER - are missing!
(A Parakeet can be trained to say, "Incomplete documents"... but at some point the question becomes WHAT documents? And can you put it in writing specifying regarding MY LOAN, MY CASE WHAT documents you are missing? Chase Bank did the EXACT SAME BEHAVIOR over the years with me.)
Another Psychic Prediction: SPS waits until the "Midnight" Hour - until they make the Grand Announcement that suddenly they do not have all of the information, are missing documents or the documents you mailed are "incomplete"... For example: My deadline to submit documents was July 5. Yesterday. Ok... I called them for the last month asking if they needed ANY MORE documents, speaking to managers and regular phone people at SPS.... They would all tell me, "No, no more documents are needed and they are satisfied." Then.... as psychically predicted from the multiple experiences with Chase Bank...
On Thursday July 3 at 4 PM, started the phone conversation reassuring me they have all the documents they need and as I was saying "goodbye" and ending the conversation about to hang up ... VOILA! "but let me just check something really quick for you, Ms...." "Oh - I see here that such and such document is incomplete...and I see some notes..." ALL OF A SUDDEN WHAT SEEMED LIKE SPS SATISFACTION BECAME UNHAPPINESS...All of a sudden they were not happy.... After telling me for a whole month leading up to the deadline of July 5 that they were satisfied and no more information was needed.
Third -- I want to make VERY clear: I have ALSO VOLUNTEERED DOCUMENTS THEY DID NOT NEED AND DID NOT ASK ME FOR IN ORDER TO HELP SPS MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION TO HELP ME. WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A TEAM, AS I HAVE BEEN TOLD NUMEROUS TIMES THAT THEY WILL HELP ME "SAVE MY HOME".
As a single mom, this fraud is so plainly and patently clear. I have to share my story on behalf of all of the other single parents out there... People like us who do not usually have the time or the information to speak out... These predators think single parents are easy targets and I want to add my voice to the many who are being targeted by these con artists.
Unbeknownst to them, I was a phone call center manager and have sat many times in collection rooms of all kinds... Having even written several books on telemarketing. I know their lies, I can see right through their act on the phone and know what they do to con people on the phone out of money. It is time to investigate SPS - I wholeheartedly agree. As someone who does NOT expect a free house - I invested 40% down on this home, I can honestly say that there are many more people out there like me who could and should scare the bejeezus out of any potential buyer from taking any kind of loan on real estate.
Furthermore, as an actively licensed Real Estate Salesperson myself, I can tell you that Title Fraud, MERS Fraud, Robosigning and other fraud involving these predators has put a permanent black eye on the entire Real Estate Industry and should embarrass those who continue to perpetrate this mess acting as if nothing is wrong when the entire Real Estate Recording system is obviously corruptly broken. Investigate this company, please!

WHILE I continued to receive monthly statements, and was supposedly working with my "Personal Representative" who never returned a single call, was always "on another line" or unavailable, leaving me to deal with a never ending parade of incompetents.
I found out the day that my insurance agent called me to ask why SPS was calling her to cancel my homeowner's policy. When I was able to get thru to an idiot in Salt Lake, (supposedly), they seemed gleeful, even laughed, and were very disrespectful. They informed me that the auction was held TWO MONTHS prior. They admitted that they did not notify me, because I had informed them several months back that I had an attorney, so they were not allowed to. Trouble is, they did not inform him, either! Their only comment to that was "oh well, what is done is done, now you need to get out in 10 days, or we will just send the sheriff by for a visit, and he will throw all of your stuff out to the street." Trouble here is that when I was doing a work out, 3 months prior, they asked me if I had an attorney. I said yes. They asked if I would give permission to speak to him. I said yes, and gave them full contact info. Then they asked if I was consenting to speak directly with them myself, now, and in the future. I said yes, anytime.
Of course, no one there has a record of any conversation past "Do you have an attorney?...Yes..." I won't bore you all with the minute details, just suffice to say that after months of court dates, an agreement to sell the house to my partner, then refusing 3 offers, ending with one that was for $260,000, 20 grand over the owed amount. Because suddenly, their Real Estate Expert told them that the house would sell for $335,000.00. She had never even driven thru the area, much less seen the home with its multiple issues. Uh, lest I forget, that was the end of Jan 2014. That was when the market had tanked in this area, with many foreclosures, and vacant houses sitting. Some homes in the area dropped over $100,000. and more, in value. They, SPS, are still as of today, July 5th, 2014, dropping the price, trying to sell "as is", listing all the structure, water and mold issues. At last check, the price was at $274,000. Even with a blazing hot real estate market now, no takers.
Meanwhile, since the market has gone absolutely wild, my credit is ruined. I have lost over $25,000 to moving labor, emergency storage, continuing storage bills, and ongoing temporary rental costs of $4,000 a month. Savings, and retirement accounts drained. Health issues exacerbated by stress. Humiliation, loss of personal property, stolen or broken, etc., and these arrogant, greedy, scum sucking parasites are, quite obviously, allowed to continue on destroying lives and bank accounts. In my state the law group that represents them, as well as another well known law practice that represents another faux mortgage company, were swiftly fired by Fannie Mae in March due to numerous complaints about dubious business practices, and failure to properly notify the homeowners. Freddie Mac is expected to do the same. So when does the full investigation begin? FTC? Feds? A Class Action Suit is definitely called for here!! !

I have received the same run around with Select Portfolio and now I have a foreclosure sale date only weeks away. After trying unsuccessfully since my loan was transfers from BofA to SPS in 2013 to do a modification. I was approved a modification by SPS only to receive a letter one week letter denying the modification due to a "underwriting error". Finally giving up on keeping my home because payments had gotten too far behind to qualify for any of the HAMP programs. I decided to do a short sale to prevent having a foreclosure on my credit. I have been in the process of doing a short sell since 1/14.
SPS advised me they would be doing the short sale, only to find out months later that they could not assist. I would have to find a realtor. Now that I have found a realtor..... SPS has the nerve to decline 2 offers 1 for 60,000 and the other for 92,000 saying it is not enough to cover their cost. House is valued at 74,500 and SPS says they will not take no less than 100,000. I wish this nightmare would end...... A class action case definitely needs to be filed on SPS.

Me and my husband seem to get nowhere from countrywide sold to BofA. Now with Select Portfolio Servicing ,no mortgage assistance, tried to modification was denied. They all seem to lose to paperwork so now the house is in default and pre foreclosure. How we found out was a person knocking on our door, next day received default papers and told us our home is in foreclosure. What a slap in the face.

We have been dealing with SPS for a year and a half, since SunTrust pawned us off on them. Same as everyone else, fax after fax, jumping through hoops to give them the info they needed. Our house was scheduled for auction in March and we were not notified. We managed to stall that, resulting in a "trial modification". We made those payments on time. Three weeks ago. we received a letter that they would notify us of their decision within 15 business days. Never heard a peep. My husband called last Friday and they said they would be able to do our modification.
Today, we received a letter stating the modification was denied. We were about to attain a lawyer, but decided not to, thinking this was settled. Now, time to talk to an attorney once more. This has been extremely stressful, due to their flip flopping and stringing us along. My husband swears up and down that they have Google robots dealing with customers instead of human beings!

Had enough! Out of each mortgage payment, which changes 4 times a year while they figure out which modification is right, exactly 12 cents of the mortgage payment goes towards principal. The rest is interest and the taxes are added on to the existing balance, so the mortgage balance is actually increasing with each payment. Time for a lawyer!

My story is not any different than all of the other 196 reviews posted. I had dealt with some unforeseen circumstances that lead me to fall behind on my mortgage with Chase. I was able to catch up with some assistance and as soon as I did Chase sold my loan to SPS without any notice of awareness. Although I had caught up I was still facing the difficulty of paying my mortgage because the adjustable rate was about to increase although my circumstances had not improved. Therefore I spoke with SPS and sought assistance. I started the process December 2013 anticipating the increase and taking a proactive accountability for the change...understanding that it takes time to process. However, it has now been seven months and I continue to get the same run around as everyone else.
You do everything that is asked of you and submit the paperwork required, receive notice that they have the completed documents and it is in review. Then get a call stating that they now need something else or need it differently than the way it was provided and the circle jerk begins. They stretch it out the 90 days of acceptance so they then can ask for all new paperwork and delay the process even further. No one there will take accountability for anything received, you never speak to the relationship manager that is supposedly assigned to you. They are unhelpful and read from a script never providing a viable solution to getting the help you are asking for. They are counting on you becoming frustrated enough with the process that you just give up. Well....I am not about to lose my house that I worked so hard to have.... I've owned this house for 15 years and I will fight to the bitter end to keep it. The more frustrated I get with this the harder I will push. A lawsuit against them may be in the near future.

I, like many of you have had a lot of the same issues with SPS. Before telling my story I would like to thank each and every one of the people who took the time to tell their stories. Because of them, I was able to defend myself, counter and even predict SPS's movements. These stories.. and some really amazing timing of events and people helped greatly. Long story short, I ended up writing the White House!... and they read my letter!...I informed our President on what was being done with his loan program and a short version of what I had learned. You will not need to write the White House as I am giving you the info that I have been given.
The White House contacted the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (http://www.consumerfinance.gov/) on my behalf, opened a claim and forwarded my letter. I received a letter from the CFPB on 01-08-14 and that same night the head of the CFPB was actually on The Daily Show being interviewed! I could not believe it.
Here is my situation. It may or not be close to what you may be dealing with. World economy collapse + 12 yr relationship ending + no work anywhere around at all for the longest time = a 3 or 4 month rough patch, 3 yrs ago now (2011)! Chase was to service the loan and I had been sold to Deutsche Bank by this point. Well, what could have essentially been solved in a 15 minute phone call has gone on for 3 years now! I submitted 40 plus pages of stuff 4 or 5 times for about a year and a half only to be repeatedly turned away and straight back into foreclosure. Finally(! ) I was approved for one of their miraculous programs. I was so very stupid that I actually believed them.. I actually thought it was over. I was wrong. It hadn't even started to get bad yet.
The offer I was given was fair. The payment was lower, it had a Principal reduction at 3, 4 and 5 year points (something not given, but a chance to earn) that would bring the balance down and it seemed fair.. like we were splitting the damage. I bought in '02 and renovated for years...by myself..for hundreds of hours and tens of thousands and one day... POOF! 10 years of work, effort and doing the right thing... GONE! (house lost 140k). I accepted said offer and started payments for it to Chase in 03-2013. I was also to make 3 trial payments and it would then become my new mortgage plan. I too was sold in the middle of the trial period after making only 2 payments.
I received a letter from Chase stating that all terms would stay the same and to just send SPS my final trial payment. I had a strange sequence of events lead to needing to renew my home owner insurance for unrelated issues just a week or two before this. I had to remedy that before the sale went from Chase to SPS. This one event led to an inspector coming to my home from the insurance company. He said to trim a few branches and I was good to go. Then, my mailman came by. These two guys knew each other! They were in a band together (I found out later that it had been 30 years since they saw each other too!). Normally, I would most likely have some small talk and just go in with my mail, but...I play drums! I love music...all kinds. So I stayed there talking and listening. I found out that my Inspector was also a Sheriff in a nearby county.
In the time we sat there talking, he looked down and saw the envelope in my hand with SPS's logo on it. He said to me, very seriously "watch out for them"! I asked why and he proceeded to tell me about what SPS had done to him and his Wife. They did get their home (I am currently trying to locate this man). Because of him and these strange string of events all lining up together when they did, I was able to get prepared. I guess that one could say whatever they wanted to ...GOD, Yoda, The Universe... Purple Monkeys.. whatever.. I have my own personal belief for sure without a single doubt.
When the talk was done I went inside and immediately started researching SPS (approx 05-2013ish). Remember, I was to make just 1 more payment. Final one was to be 06-01-2013. I made 15 or 16 of them until this very month (06-14)!!! Fortunately, SPS is a slow, lumbering, over confident, arrogant and under-estimating entity. I didn't only research. I had 5 entire more months to dissect them! It was 10-2013 before I finally did get anything close to a final modification package...and it was a total, laughable...JOKE! To get this far was already incredibly hard. Every excuse in the world, SPS blamed Chase the entire time stating that they didn't have this, that or the other thing, blah blah blah.
I had read on here that many people said that if one were to call SPS several times in one day that one would hear several different reasons for why things were not being done. Sooo I decided to experiment... and do just that. Sure enough... the legends were true. I am serious too. Several times, several different days... and several different reasons too...every time. They did everything that all of the people on here and many other forums had written. I even told them that I'd been watching them. I told them I could see them from a mile away, that I knew what they were up to and that I had been waiting for them to finally introduce their true selves to me.
The mortgage package I mentioned finally getting, that was a joke? That package showed me exactly what their intent was. In all the time they just sat on the loan, calling me repeatedly "in the attempt to collect a debt" (while making 16 payments all early mind you) for months on end, with no paperwork at all from Chase (don't forget that part), they did somehow manage to make the Principal go from 208K to 247K.. that was in the horrible excuse for a mortgage package. I couldn't believe it.
But wait, there's more!!! The Principal reductions I mentioned earlier 3, 4 and 5 years out? They were also gone too, the rate changed for 5 years.. all kinds of little tiny things tucked up in there.. and a bajillion dollar balloon payment... for added zest I guess. Gosh, I sure was shocked and amazed. I never saw this coming. I had to obviously call SPS. I said that this just had to be some kind of mistake. (maybe right? I know, I know) NOPE! So I asked SPS what happened if I do not agree to this horrible agreement?
They quite quickly responded with that they would simply pick up where Chase left off in the foreclosure process. I guess they had THOSE papers right at hand ready to go for some odd ironic reason huh? Well, at this point I needed to seek legal advice, help...anything that would stop or shed light on what SPS was doing. 3 lawyers advised me to sign. They pointed out that 1) I could live to fight another day and 2) Chase, Bank of America and all the others were just now settling for what they had done in 2009 and 2010. It would most likely be years until this new mess was dealt with. So I signed them and sent them in.
However, I couldn't stop them from doing it. Like watching a bullet come right at you and not being able to move out of its way. I contacted everybody I could think of. My mechanic is always the reputable view here on Ch 2 and 5. When they investigate shady mechanics, they always come to him for the counter point/what they should really do side. I got the I Team Producer's number from him, contacted her, told her my story and she asked if I had receipts and such. I sent her everything. The first agreement I really did agree to the poor excuse for one that SPS forced on me, receipts...everything. She said she was very interested in my story and then...nothing! A month or two later, I sent an email asking if there was anything else she needed and what was happening and I still to this day have not heard anything at all.
Fortunately, my mechanic said I should contact Congressman John Lewis. I did and dealt with a very helpful man named Jared. I filled out some forms that he sent off and I never heard anything else. I thought to myself at this point. I knew that the key was to shed light on SPS. I just didn't know how. I wrote a Cheryl Wolf in NJ who is w/ Chase Legal and told her what was happening and if they didn't know that, they did now! Then.. I thought since I was writing Congressman, why not write the President!?
I told them that I had found out quite a bit. Just all of the stories alone where people made 2 payments and were sold in the middle of trial payments were so numerous. I had already realized what Chase did in my case. At the time of sale, 2 payments in.. Chase had all the paperwork they needed to show that they indeed offered me a fair deal. Then they sold me, like being flushed down a black hole... then when you pop out the other side? Companies like SPS do whatever they want with the loan. They appear be a company that is to Service said loan. Note this, I would advise you to call multiple times a day and hear different excuses.
Through this I heard one day that the reason wasn't Chase papers or whatever... it was that they were waiting for a NET Value Update. Well, I knew what that is (and I looked it up to make sure)! It sounds all warm and fuzzy. Like maybe a Comp value thing or something... That is part of it, but it also has factors like how many months it would be until the loan defaults, what is more profitable for the company comparing servicing the loan vs. taking the credit as a loss and things of that nature. Every company has its own super secret formula for it.
For giggles I went around a few times with the Rep about it. He didn't even know what a Net Value Update even was... then I nailed him and said that it didn't really matter because the fact that you are doing that already tells me that SPS is at the least considering not honoring the agreement I entered into! There was silence. Keep on these guys. Seriously. You can predict their every move. Watch them to the bitter end.
If you have a situation like mine it may be possible that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau can help you too. I didn't know about all of you a little over a year ago, but I do now. I also wanted to wait until I saw that the CFPB really worked so as to not give people false hope or anything. I got lucky. That letter was the least thing I thought would work and turned out to be the biggest thing that did work for me. It took forever, but I finally did receive my correct mortgage package from SPS just a couple of weeks ago.
Please hear me, stay on them.. keep your eyes open... right to the bitter end because they will squirm and slither and try to find any crack or crevice to use. The package came in an overnight envelope on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. I lost that time to get advice and such plus the PO was closed on Monday. On Thurs, May 29th, 2014 I took work off to attend to all of this. They sent me 4 copies for some reason which they claim was an error. I called they said to sign and send back 2 copies. The deadline was for them to be back to them by the 4th of June 2014. I did everything, got the notarized certificates and went to the Post Office. Something I noticed and immediately saw as a threat was the fact that for the first time ever, out of all of these overnight package adventures, that his particular time there was no overnight return envelope. Just a simple yellow, small first class mail delivery envelope. I almost laughed out loud. I thought.."Really"!?! Sure, I am that stupid. I'll just drop it the mail and trust that everything will work out just fine!
At this point (last couple of weeks mind you) the Case from the CFPB was closed as SPS had sent my Docs. Well, here is where research really comes in. I had also read their other tactics.. and predicted their moves once again. Well, I sent off the Signed Docs and everything, but I did it via Certified Mail. They received it on the 2nd of June (was due by the 4th so, on time). Here it came... just like I knew it would. SPS just couldn't resist. I worked 6 days last week. Made the mistake of checking my mail from Saturday on Sunday morning and there it was. SPS wrote me a letter, sent me a letter and had a due date threat of legal action all on...June 3rd!!!
Seriously.. that really happened. They sent me a letter on the 3rd, written on the 3rd stating that they did not receive the signed docs (big shock right) in time and that if SPS did not receive them by ..yup, June 3rd that they were (not may), they were taking legal action blah blah blah. I called, it was Sunday, they were closed and I wasn't! I got back on the site for CFPB. Then I called them. I thanked them so much for helping me already, but SPS was doing it again. I didn't know if I needed to somehow reopen the claim, file a new one or what to do. They said to file a new one, so I did on Sunday.
I asked them if they could arrange a delivery of these mystical signed docs since SPS was too inept to supposedly check their own mail and they stated that they would be glad to do so. I sent them the signed docs, certified mail receipt, tracking confirmation page, notary seal and the horrible threatening June 3rd letter from SPS. BTW..SPS even screwed that up...they were due by the 4th!!
Monday afternoon I received an email that SPS had been sent the dispute and info. I got up yesterday and immediately called SPS. I absolutely ignored the threatening letter issue and immediately told them that I wanted to make my payment for July 1st (on June 10th). I wanted to know their intent. I had also read many, many times of their tactics. At this point yesterday morning, as far as SPS was concerned I didn't return the docs soon enough and they had a letter saying so! They were vague, I was transferred 3 or 4 times.. I was told that, get this that she could not see my payment amount anywhere at all... then I was put on hold for at least 20 minutes or so.
I had read and knew that their next move would be to not accept a payment, tell me I was moved to foreclosure and... auction me to "take the loss". They had the file already set up to do so... that's why the Rep couldn't take my payment. She finally came back on and said she'd take the payment and mentioned that I had a dispute and said it again.. you have a dispute right? I said.. "do I"? Then the lost docs subject came up and she said "oh, we have them now" so she had to admit that. I said that they had them on the 2nd and everybody knows it. Then she had to take the payment. The Docs that they admitted to receiving state that the payment for July is the binding date, I made that payment yesterday.
I still do not trust them. I would even still suspect them of trying everything else that they can, even though they are being watched, and I don't believe that it is over, but it should be. I don't feel like I can let my guard down or even relax for a minute though. I don't believe that we should be forced to have to stay with, pay to and work with SPS with their already known tactics and agenda with our homes at risk and in the balance. I can't say enough good things about the CFPB, the amount of help they have given and weight they have removed.
I hope that anybody reading this who can be helped is helped. I know what it is like. One gets turned away even mentioning a mortgage issue. Everybody immediately assumes all kinds of things and doesn't even listen or take you seriously. I found out that Chase, Bank of America and others are selling SPS alone 35,000, 30,000 and more loans at a time that they are doing this too... and SPS is just one of many doing it on top of that.
The Congressman's office told me that this is brand new. The banks were starting trial payments and then foreclosing after 2 payments. Then a law was passed a year or two back so their new thing is to sell you to companies like SPS after 2 payments with the same end game. It is true, it probably will be years until any action happens.
Another thing the CFPB is doing is compiling information and data on who is doing what, how they are doing it and who they are doing it to. If you file a dispute and are found to be in the right you will be notified if a class action takes place which has come up a lot on these forums. I was asked what would be fair and for me there is no way for that to be.. the amount of loss and damage is not fixable.. even my home not gone would only be a drop compared to what Chase and SPS has affected in my life at this point.
I wish each and every one of you luck in your battle. I hope that this story and info help somebody else as they have helped me, and I hope that the info helps everybody else too. Let them know what is happening to you! I know what it like to be pushed around while they do whatever they want to you and nobody even knows about it. Good luck!!!

Without exception every attempt at doing business with Select Portfolio Servicing has been very difficult. They never do anything I request of them, with exception of the modification on my loan that took a very long time and not once did I have the same representative when I called during the mortgage modification. Even when I called in March to ask them to correct inaccurate information they reported to the credit reporting agencies they did nothing they said they would do. I received no information, no letter... nothing so my mortgage with SPS still since 2012 shows up on my credit report as delinquent and in foreclosure even though I have been current on the mortgage effective the modification they still treat me as if they are a debt collector trying to collect a debt, and their automated phone system even states that.
I in my 74 years have never been treated this way. I AM A CLIENT but they treat me as if they don't care. When they purchased my mortgage they ignored arrangements with my old mortgage co and used deferred payments over many years to put my house in foreclosure then the letters they sent did not show the actual amount I should have paid making the situation even more difficult. I almost lost my home and everything they did from their lack of providing the correct information to not fully answering any of my questions fully (or just giving me confusing or incomplete info) seemed to be engineered to take my house.
I wish this company would go away and my mortgage would be purchased by a real bank. I am so frustrated and disgusted with SPS at this point I could scream. I spent my life in service of my country in the Air Force including two tours in Vietnam - dealing with SPS is an insult to my integrity. While they claim that they are doing nothing illegal I disagree. It should not be legal to used smoke and mirrors the way they do to trick people out of their homes. I asked for letters on many occasions to verify that they would take care of things like the above situation with the credit report and every Representative I spoke to told me that they have no way to send me any letters or correspondence. They seem to avoid putting anything in writing.

I believe the last time I wrote was in Nov. 2013. My update is the same. I have not been modified as of yet. I have been denied twice and they are reviewing my files right now. I started trying to be modified since June 2013. It has been a YEAR now. They had all documentation according to the ones who keep calling me and I keep answering. They will say they don't have this or that, but I will go in the folder, pull it out and resend it with them on the phone. Then they will say it takes about 3 days before they can see it and to remember that everyone else is sending faxes too. "You are x amount of months behind. Can you make a payment?" Once before, I was still denied. I am not trying to live rent free. I just want them to reduce my mortgage amount.
From what I am looking at with the other reviews or complaints, we all seem to be NOT getting help. I have sent packages in several times. I was told I need a profit and loss statement, then I was told I don't SEVERAL times. Now they have another program. Like one review mentioned IN-HOUSE modification. My response was like yours. Why now and not months ago on an in-house mode? It's like playing a game with them to see who will give in first. DON'T STOP SENDING THEM WHAT THEY NEED, EVEN IF YOU SENT IT AND KNOW YOU SENT IT MANY TIMES. SOMETIMES FAX IT 3 TIMES A DAY, EVERY DAY IF YOU NEED TO. I did. They said they have EVERYTHING as of TODAY, JUNE 09, 2014. I am sure I will get a call saying they don't have something as they have been doing for an entire year.
I know of THREE people, but not with SPS that has received their DEEDS in the mail saying "PAID IN FULL". This was no mistake. Two of them were actually foreclosed and the other one was still living in her home. Can you imagine being out of your home for two years, then get a letter with your DEED? She had the title company to check it out for her, no liens and it's hers as well as the other two homes. They are free and clear. I call that a blessing. So they can do what they want, when they want. All I am asking for is a reduction, but I will take a DEED.
My next update, I pray it will say MODIFIED or DEED. Good luck everyone on trying to work with SPS. Don't give up because they shouldn't have to get on the phone, repeating what was already said 4 days to a week ago. It appears they don't keep notes or they need to update their system on the next caller seeing the notes BEFORE the auto-dialer puts the call in cue. THIS HAS BEEN A BAD EXPERIENCE BECAUSE THIS IS MY HOME.

My mortgage was sold to SPS in October, 2013. At the time, I was still in a Chapter 13 so my escrow overage was being held. I completed my Chapter 13 several months early, it has been discharged and SPS has not sent me my monies owed. In May, 2014, my overage was $3,193. My property taxes of $270 was deducted from this amount leaving me with a $2,924 refund. SPS sent me $1999 on 6/2/2014. I have called and called and this amount has been verified by several of their staff. No one can tell me why they are trying to cheat me. I requested to speak with a supervisor 6/2/2014, and was told the system was down and they would return my call.
When I did not receive a response, I was told it was forwarded to the Escrow department for resolution. Two days later, I have no check and no response. I also have an insurance overage owed to me. I received a $37.49 of which a total of $286 is owed. I filed for a modification back in February, 2014 submitting all necessary paperwork, to lower my interest rate and payment. I have yet to receive a response as of 6/4/2014. Now my mortgage is over 30 days late. They can hound me about that payment I owe, but ignore me when they owe me. I am currently filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, The Federal Trade Commission and the Indiana Attorney General's Office.

Back in Oct 2013 I requested some kind of assistance from my mortgage lender Chase Bank, who has also been my bank for over 15 years. Having a good standing history with them I felt that they would try to work with me when I fell onto some hard times. Initially my only request was for forbearance & therefore giving me the ability to move one or two payments to the rears of the loan. This action would have given me some time to rebuild lost funds.
Chase at that time only offered me a plan of breaking up one payment throughout the year. Wasn't too comfortable agreeing to that plan because my mortgage was a variable rate and just too unpredictable. I was told at that time this was all they could do for me. Then I filed a complaint with the OCC regarding Chase's unfair practices. Per the complaint to the OCC I was contacted by Chase's executive offices in New York. With them I too I felt I was going to receive some kind of resolutions to my problem. Instead, I was put in contact with Matt ** from Chase's mortgage banking executive office.
Mr. ** did nothing for me but to send me 3 modifications packets and engaged in numerous phone tag adventures with me. Caring little or not to comply with my only available work hours and the fact that we are from different time zones. I completed all required forms and provided them with every last shred of documentation. Was in close communication with Brittani **, my loan girl, have done everything for chase to proceed with the modification. On Dec 15, 2013, I wired them my Dec mortgage payment which I eventually came to find out that they just held it but did not apply it to my loan. Called their agents numerous times and was told that it's probably due to the modification in the file that was still pending.
Along with working with Chase for help due to this unforeseen hardship, I also completed all the required documentations from a government agency called Keep Your Home California and was approved. This agency has the funds to help me with my past due mortgage amounts so that I can move forward and get out of this nightmare. Last time I spoke with Ms. ** I was told I had completed and also complied with every regulation. Was informed that we just had to wait for the underwriters to complete their portion of the paperwork. Then in a matter of two days I received a letter in the mail from Chase dated 1/17/14: notice of assignment, sale or transfer of servicing rights. I could not believe my eyes but it had my right Chase loan no# and stated that they are writing to inform me that the servicing of my mortgage loan will transfer to Select Portfolio Servicing, Inc on 2/1/14.
So... all the prior troubles, taking the time to complain to the appropriate channels such as the OCC, completing everything necessary and as well as meeting all requirements was all in vain?? Well, I rolled up my sleeves & began working with SPS so I could continue to move forward. I contacted Keep Your Home California as well at that time. It was the last few days of January 2014 & I was expressing to them how frustrated I was about being changed over to a new mortgage company. Never before had a small mortgage company handled my mortgage in the past. I always preferred that one of the big banks such as those I used in the past (Wells Fargo & Washington Mutual) carry my mortgage in the hopes of avoiding this exact situation... Keep Your Home California informed me that Select Portfolio Servicing is in their network and using them would not be a problem.
Had countless phone calls with the SPS team, too bad they are horrible in keeping notes so the next operator knows all your concerns. Perhaps if they would have done some kind of leg work to produce some kind of answers beside my file is under modification I know my file was received for modification since 2/20/14. But as far as having even one opportunity to speak to the underwriter I haven't had the pleasure, as to date. How can the homeowner know that the terms they are writing up are even a possibility? And therefore, this leaves the homeowner even less time to find another mortgage company if the modification is not a workable solution. Not to mention all the above mentioned purposeful delays are causing the homeowner to receive numerous threats of foreclose or to retain counsel. At whose cost and by whose doing?
If matters could not be worse, I was informed this week by Keep Your Home California that my loan service provider (Select Portfolio Svc, Inc.) opted out of the program and my file was closed. This news was emailed to me on 5/22/14. I ask myself how can it be legal to opt out of program when you know you have a homeowner who has complied with every requirement and you know is counting on using this said agency to make her home current so she has never has the need to use any of these programs again?
I would like to take a moment to remind you of some facts about the homeowner: she was never late or missed any payments prior to the one in Oct 2014. She was a single mother meeting her needs by working full time for almost twenty one years for la county department of public social services. She is raising four kids, two are still minors. The youngest of her children is a nonverbal autistic child which has been quite a challenge as well as a beautiful blessing. Unfortunately she had a couple injuries at work which have drained her accounts of money due to workman's comp delays. She has had two surgeries to repair the ulnar nerve in her right prominent hand, and has taken a leave from 5/31/13-10/10/14>>per doctors orders. See it was 10/01/14 when chase first ever heard from me and that's when I asked for forbearance for a couple of months so I can regain my pay.
Now that I have given a little bit of history and some facts I would like to take the time to ask someone to explain: how can my mortgage company opt themselves out of a program while I am currently depending on it with modification? If banks/mortgage companies ideal is to collect money owed to them and be paid in full why do they opt out of a government funded programs where they can be made whole of my past due delinquency ? Or is their goal just to obtain the homeowner's property at the homeowner's expense? This is what we bailed out the banks for? We bail them out so they can sell their loans to millions of independently owned mortgage companies or groups of lenders ready to feed off of you, in any way they can and see fit. Did some research on Select Portfolio Servicing on Wikipedia and it outlines when they started and the trouble they have been involved in with the Federal Trade Commission and HUD. Will reference the links below so you can be informed as well.
Upon reading all my above mentioned trouble if I can implore on the kindness of others to please instruct me what else I can do to protect myself from these vultures. Your time and concern is truly appreciated.

SPS state that they have not received yet the document because the mail take long time to deliver the correspondence. Their idea is to draw out my modification for as long as they possibly can.

I fully support the person from FL who is considering a class action lawsuit against Select Portfolio Servicing (SPS). I would gladly join one in a heartbeat. I have been dealing with SPS for a year on a deed-in-lieu. My story is the same as everyone else's: fill out and send in paperwork, asked for more paperwork over and over again, they drag it out for 90 days, repeat. I just got off the phone with them today. I have a junior lien with another company. That company received a settlement offer from SPS. They responded with an acceptance letter on April 11, 2014, with today's date as to when their acceptance expires. I was told by SPS that their underwriter hadn't even looked at their acceptance offer yet, but they could forward it to them today (I was told this by several of their people over the last two weeks).
I was instructed by SPS to contact the company with the jr. lien and have them resubmit their acceptance letter, giving SPS 30-45 days to respond. I called the company with my jr. lien and they were very honest with me. They were given many accounts with SPS to deal with. The gentleman I spoke with told me that with just the accounts he's dealt with (ALL of whom have had the same experiences as we all have had), none of their deed-in-lieu's were approved. He said he wished he had better news for me, but he wanted me to be prepared. He is sending a new acceptance letter tomorrow that will expire the last day of May. During that time, my 90 days will expire. I know they are trying to wear me down so I will just tell them to forget it. I want to fight this to the bitter end! I am in contact with my attorney, who advised me to contact the Dept. of Justice in my state, as well as the Dept. of Consumer and Business Services about SPS. I will do that tomorrow. I have no idea what the outcome will be. It's traumatic enough that I have to lose my house. To have them cause even more trauma and stress with their shady business practices is ridiculous.

Modification was through Washington Mutual. Cost me $500.00 to lower my interest rate 1%. They put it back up to 7.8% within 5 months. Chase bought out Washington Mutual and became my loan servicer. Oddly enough, my loan was sold by Long Beach Mortgage to Deutsche Bank. Not even an American bank, Only in America. :( So I don't have USA backing or access to Freddie Mac or Fannie May. I promise not to rant! Anyway, I saw the writing on the wall and in 2008 applied for a modification to Chase Bank to bring my loan into perspective to value. I was not behind in payments, therefore rejected. After a year, I tried again. I was not behind in payments and was told by a Chase modification representative to be three months behind to be taken seriously. Oh why bother... I don't want to rant. It's a scam...

We received a letter from Bank of America saying they sold our mortgage to Select Portfolio Servicing. I called them to set up my mortgage payment arrangements. On my first payment they withdrew on the day I get my payroll check deposit into my checking account. In which it put my account in a negative balance because I had not had a chance to transfer the money from one account to the other. I had my mortgage modify. I insisted on telling SPS that my mortgage is late if not paid by the 16th of each month.
I recently filed bankruptcy. They overdrawn my account again. In which we made arrangements to pay a equity in the amount of $202.00 by the 1st of April. Mind you this was a payment that we were paying separate from our regular mortgage payment. We sent a money order (US Postal Money Order). They withdrew the mortgage & the remaining that was in my account. Now it is overdrawn again.
My husband called SPS on April 22nd they said they had received the money order but have not put the money back into my account yet. We live on a budget, can not afford for this company to take a dime from me. I have been going back and forth to the doctor for entire month and to reschedule appointments because of this. It is a shame that you have no say in them selling your loan but they have no problem in making your life pure hell. I pay my taxes every year. As a citizen I feel that I & nobody should have to go through this. I will not stop here because this company should be stop!

My mother and father took out a loan for **, Inwood, West Virginia 25428. They were elderly, ill, and on a fixed income when the loan was approved through Chase Bank. When they became ill, they fell behind in their payments. They then sought loan modification from Chase Bank who then turned over the account to SPS. The house caught on fire and was a total constructional loss on December 8, 2013. I contacted SPS about what we could do since the home was no longer there. We were advised at that time there were three options, one of them being short pay. We made an offer, send in all paperwork needed to SPS, and was told that the offer was fair and would go through because it was over 80% of what was owed. We ended up sending in the insurance check in order to show funds were available to pay the short pay.
We were informed on April 23, 2014 that the short pay was denied. They wanted the entire insurance check. My mother has passed away in October 2012, my father had a stroke in November 2012, was hospitalized for three months in a rehabilitation hospital. My father has no ability to use his right side due to the stroke, has dementia, and Alzheimer's Disease. He did not know that there was a second mortgage on the property that my mother took out and has to pay for the demolition of his home. SPS did not live up to what they told us in the matter of the short pay was enough and would be good, the timeliness of the inspection and response to us about the matter of the denial of the short pay.

In Oct 2011, my B of A loan was sold to SPS as we will call them for short, when we were in litigation on fraudulent charges with the housing crisis. No letter, no calls, just sent a statement saying they were the new servicer. Send them our $1,279.00 for payment. We have not sent them one red cent. It has been 3 years this Oct. Last month they sent us a scare tactic letter from an Indianapolis, IN attorney who was no more than a debt collector. I answered in 30 days denying all of their fraudulent charges, and they had until the 19th of April to respond which they haven't. I told them I would be looking forward to our day in court for the truth to come out.
I still haven't paid them and if I haven't paid them in almost 3 years, how come they haven't evicted me? Because they can NOT!!!!! They don't have anyone's loan, can't foreclose, and can only bother you to pay, which as a Debt Collector, the policies change. They are not the creditor that you purchased your home from. SPS is a third party debt collector. Check out the FCRA in your state, when your loan was securitized (wrapped in a bundle with other loans) it became a stock, and cannot be returned to a loan.
I believe in country, and freedom, and paying my bills, but not when I served my country for 20 years as a soldier in the United States Army, I fought for all Americans, but not so a few greedy ** could rob the whole nation. I have been dealing with this since August 2006. I am fed up but I am not giving up. The Honorable Congress Women from Ohio said, "Don't give up your home, stay in it and fight". I have been in a living nightmare and can't wake up. Originally I was with EMC Mortgage which was bought by Chase. Got behind because I had a heart attack. My stepson had his 2nd kidney transplant and because of this, my wife lost her job. Chase just kept sending out packages and we would fill them out and of course something is always not to their liking. Then Chase sent us to SPS and it has been downhill since then. Sent in the first package and of course they needed something. Got required document from SS Administration and they said it still was missing info. No, their "financial" people did not know how to read the letter from SS. After more than two months, I finally emailed them a copy with the information circled and did the math for them. And what did I get, a letter stating they got my correspondence and was looking into it.
You call and never speak to the same people. Ask questions and they give you the same scripted answers. Are these people licensed mortgage or financial professionals? They stretch out all responses so that 90 days go by and yes, they want another package filled out with the same information. They explain that they will try to help get Harp or another modification plan but if that fails they have their plan which of course involves lots of money from you into their pockets. They are a disgrace to the financial industry and yet they are allowed to pounce on people who are only trying to keep their homes after legitimate financial problems caused them to get behind on their mortgage. Instead of helping, they are causing extreme emotional situations for these people. If what they are doing is classified as helping, then we are all in very serious trouble.

I complied with everything they asked and was waiting on the call from their property preservation team. Well that never happened but instead I received a letter stating my mortgage will now be serviced by SPS and they will continue with the deed in lieu. Needless to say they did not and have had me on a vicious cycle of send the paperwork again and again and again. Then I get a letter saying it's been denied and a phone call saying, "we want to work with you."
In the meantime I have moved out my home and gotten rid of almost all my furniture because my place now is so much smaller. It's now two years later and I am still in limbo with these unprofessional people who never know what is going on with other departments in their own company. I am stuck in this non-ending hard place. I do not want to file bankruptcy to get this home out of my name but I'm starting to feel like I have no other options. The first packet went out in January, more information was requested. Information submitted, but now they need new information because a month has passed. Same situation in March. They finally acknowledged receipt of all necessary information and advised it will take at least 30 days to review.
I am a month behind on my mortgage because of circumstances beyond my control; my tenant lost her job and cannot pay her rent. She has a ten-year-old son and I am trying to work with her so as not to displace her son from his school. I am now behind on my utilities and all my other bills so I could pay my mortgage. I explained this to SPS and asked them to expedite their process. They have done nothing but give me the runaround. I will soon be facing foreclosure on the home I have invested my entire 401K on.

They will never be able to finalize a loan modification in my life time, because the documentation that is submitted to them will never be reviewed by their underwriters in the 90-day time frame before they expire and have to be updated. I have been on this merry go round with them for 9 months and for 62 months with Chase Bank. There are well too many complaints as not to be an able alternative. No matter all the unfortunate situations that have occurred in my life over the past four years, I still wish to keep my home. Chase underminded me and sold to these bottom feeders using a blindside technique. I attempted to begin to deal with them and immediately saw the old Fairbanks Holding unlawful tactics.
I have been in finance for 45 years and assisted many people in these types of situations and also in bankruptcies (which may be necessary here), so I know the signs. I may just retain an attorney and put it off. The Court here in Brevard County is so backed up that it is taking years for cases to come to the docket. I had of B of A Loan that was sold to Select Portfolio Servicing, Inc. in December 26, 2013. I had an original Home Modification through Franklin Loan Services in 2009. It was later sold to B of A a couple of years after. My husband and I started really struggling financially in October 2013, called B of A to see if we could modify again. They promised us we could, sent certified letter with packet filled and all papers needed and received my confirmation card with signature of receipt. 3 weeks later, called of B of A to find out status.
Talked with my representative, and was told they never received it. Explained I have the signed return receipt from the post office. She said she would send me a new packet with FedEx Return. Once again filled out all the paperwork, copies, signed. Return receipt returned to me, that B of A did in fact receive packet. Waited another 3 weeks, called in end of November, was told they did not receive packet. Was asked to send a new one in. I explained to her I received a letter from B of A that my servicing company is changing in December to Select Portfolio, but all paperwork would be forwarded to them and there would not be any problems.
December 28, called Select after receiving letter of transfer for my account. Explained to them the trail of papers sent to B of A. At this time my husband had a heart attack and open heart 3 way bypass. We were now 2 months behind if house payment. Was told by Select many different stories of what should and would be done. January 2014, sent in another Modification packet. 3 weeks later, I was told we couldn't re-modify. So far, all of the Representatives I have spoken to, (never the same person) and tried to contact my Relationship Manager (who I don't believe exists) and every time a different story.
I have had certified letters saying they are going to foreclose unless all payments are paid by April 3, 2014, now 3 months behind. Had a person come to our home at 8:00 p.m. on a Saturday evening wanting to know why I never answer or talk with SPS, asked many questions and took pictures of my home. Called SPS the following Monday, only to be told I would get some kind of assistance to help pay the back house payments and possible a lower interest rate. Others have said I am out of luck they are foreclosing. Some have said everyone was informing me wrong but the payments will never change. The investors refused a modification. I have had too many modifications (only 1). I need to go to their money counselors to help with our finances.
Look, we are on Social Security and our monies we receive per month is 1600.00, we cannot receive any helps due to us making too much money, (joke). My husband served 2 terms in the Vietnam Conflict in Infantry and can no longer work since his heart attack. I have MS and unable to work, although we are both in our 60's. We have been in our home for 22 years and don't want to leave. If we didn't have our loan Escrowed we could make it, but I can never get a good, honest, solid answer... We are at wits’ end! Unfortunately, we have had health issues that has caused us to go through any savings or retirement. Now we need help only to get a run around with no solid answers. I truly believe SPS is a terrible company. I told the last Rep. the right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing. What a shame for Seniors or anyone to be harassed like this with no resolution.

I worked with SPS - Select Portfolio Servicing and provided information and documentation over and over again. Each and every time I provided what was asked for, I was later advised that it was needed in another format, in another style, and that too much time had elapsed and that now I would have to start the process from scratch with 3 addl. months of bank statements, profit & loss statements, hardship letters, etc. etc. They claim that there are many programs and they assure you that they will get you worked into one of them and you will be able to stay in your home, only at the last minute when you have to appear in court for your final foreclosure hearing they are nowhere to be seen and the lawyers for the bank that they are working with seem to have no leverage with the Judge and then the Judge (in my case) is so angry that she just throws in the towel and lets the house go up for auction, even though the bank seemingly was willing to postpone the sale date.
The Judge stated that SPS had more than enough time to have secured a new loan and to have this done and over with. Only in this case the victim is ME... I am now going to lose my home and in trusting SPS I have wasted my time and efforts thinking that they were legitimately working with the HAMP and HARP programs... and it just isn't so. I am going to write to and ask my local State Representative and newspaper to look into this and publish this for all to see and I will most probably take this all the way up the ladder to the highest powers that be so that the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES sees what a scam this type of company is in claiming they are trying to help homeowners in my situation. I successfully completed the trial period, received my final modification along with a congratulation letter. I continued to make payments for one year - payments made via my personal BOA checking account - however the mortgage statements did not reflect the payments being applied to the balance of the load. I called weekly and spoke to my case manager(s) - a different person each month - who each time informed me the account had not been "properly coded yet".
October 2012, I received a letter from Select Portfolio Services indicating they were the new servicing agent for my account. I was informed my mortgage was listed as delinquent, and "may be referred to an attorney for foreclosure". My loan was transferred by Bank Of America to Select Portfolio Servicing in August 2012. I had been working on a modification for over 5 years with BofA and was one payment behind with them. Select took over and immediately told me I was three payments behind. I sent them proof but they insisted on another modification. I went ahead and they continued to show me from 90 days in arrears up to 120 in arrears. I sent their legal department proof of all my payments and factually made them aware I wasn't behind over 30 days. After over one year, Bank Of America finally sent them the two payments I had told them about. SPS finally finished my modification and did apply the two payments but have never changed the credit bureau to be factual. Many phone calls and letters failed to help. Have just recently sent letters to Switzerland to the owners of SPS to get this straightened out. Letters to Matt Hollingsworth, CEO of SPS went totally unanswered. They are among a list of 4th rate organizations that you should stay away from. This poor reporting on the bureaus are a direct violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act but they could care less.

I said, "Ma'am, no payment was made in February because the final and last payment due was January and I made the payment so I know that it was paid." She put me on hold and when she came back she said, "Oooh, I see January was paid but you need to pay fines and fees." I said, "Ma'am, we always pay our bill on time. What are you talking about?" Then she tried to say, "Maybe it was because of hurricane Katrina you may have gotten a deferment." I said no that's not it. Making a long story short, they are trying to get extra money out of me and my FINAL payment was in JANUARY.

I am not really sure about these reviews here. My mortgage was transferred to SPS from Chase in October. We were in the middle of a trial plan for a modification and I was very scared based on reading reviews about SPS. But I wanted to give my feedback. Our trial mod was approved by Chase just days before the transfer was to take place. SPS took it over with no hiccups at all. Our first trial payment started in November. I did have to make a 4th trial payment since the final mod had not been approved in time. But I just heard back. The mod has been approved. I will be getting paperwork in the mail. They went over the terms with me over the phone and I couldn't be more pleased. Everybody I have ever spoken with over the phone has been very pleasant and helpful. I hope reading this will put someone's mind at ease.

They just denied us a modification because we didn't fall into their ratios properly - whatever they are. They gave us the run around for 14 months and we are at a very very high interest rate. All we wanted was a fair shake with a revised interest rate and they flat out denied. They want people to have to sell their home, their life's work, all for their own profit. We were severely affected by Hurricane Sandy, emergency medical issues and our small business suffered revenue declines due to the storm. They basically laughed at us, never returned a phone call - never, and act as if you are bothering them when you call. If enough people would jump on the bandwagon with me, I would lead a class action suit against their criminal behavior.

When I finished my last payment (THREE REQUIRED PAYMENTS) to Chase bank for a possible LOAN MODIFICATION in which they promised me they lied and they immediately sold my loan to another company as bad debt to SELECT PORTFOLIO of Salt Lake City, Utah. But not before they had already charged me with a foreclosure in which I appeared in court for only to find out that they DID NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL NOTE or PROMISSORY TO REPAY the loan. They said it was lost and that they will find it. This is my first time handling a foreclosure and I have little experience with that. However, I learned in the state of FLORIDA the NOTE is a REQUIRED DOCUMENT in order to fulfill the foreclosure process. But I remained silent to see what loan modification offer they would release but to my surprise, the FIRST offer they sent me was a bill for approximately 51634.00.
Wow, they have the nerve to send out all these legal notices about HAMP and making your home affordable and these SAVE YOUR HOME flyers as they are supposed to by LAW but one could clearly see they have NO INTENTIONS helping me stay in my home. So I hired an attorney for BANKRUPTCY and she advised me NOT to answer any phone calls or CORRESPOND with anyone she will take care of that. So I listened to her and brought all my mail to her and did not have any contact with them. In the meantime, they then changed the terms of the loan and FROM $158000 they padded the bill with frivolous fees and very vague explanations to a WHOPPING $185000. So all of a sudden in one month's time, $27000 was unreasonably added to my loan now at $185000. WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY DOING NOW!!?
So about three months later, I decided to read the mail instead of leaving it to my lawyer and see what was happening only to find out that they made a new offer for $604 each month which I can afford but I am now three months already behind from their starting date for the offer. But that is affordable only if I could TRUST them to hold their offer we could do business. Puzzled on what to do, I called them to see 2 things: #1.) How can we now rectify this new problem should I accept the offer? (Being 3-4 months behind) #2.) Do you have my ORIGINAL PROMISSORY NOTE (They now say they have it but are they LYING to me?)
Using the internet I did a research on COMPLAINTS about this company only to find THOUSANDS of UNHAPPY customers with nothing good to say about this company calling them MONSTERS and TOTAL LIARS and reading very similar situations like mine, I AM AFRAID TO GO ANY FURTHER with this company. I am a service-connected disabled vet 55 years old on a fixed income and have another homeless vet from IRAQ 41 years old with PTSD living with me. We both need to stay in a house but this company is VERY SCARY to do business with and all those crazy padding of FRIVOLOUS FEES and LIES. I really hate them already as they façade like they want to help you they are just setting you up for a FAILURE AND DEFAULT; a little while after you make term agreements with them they will push you out and FORECLOSE on you. You could SMELL it when dealing with them and HOW THEY TALK WITH SUCH DEFENSIVENESS in their demeanor. Anyone would sense their position about you.
I feel this company LIES and hires people (phone representatives who lie) probably based on a commission for trick you into paying or agreeing to their terms which are artificially inflated with all kinds of add-on frivolous and probably illegal fees. They seem to say anything to you so quick it can't be true and they keep only certain notes when you speak to them NONE in your favor. I am now requesting for them to produce the note before I agree to any terms........

Bank of America sold my mortgage to SPS. I jumped through all the hoops to make sure they received my correct insurance information and tax information. I did everything within the short time that they allowed me. I still got a threatening letter about my loan being canceled if I did not provide insurance information. I mailed my first loan payment off using bill-pay online. Before the payment was late, and only 2 days after the due date, I got a very disturbing phone call from SPS saying that I had to provide identification over the phone and that they were attempting to collect a debt. I said there must be a mistake, I live virtually debt-free except for my mortgage which was not even late. The woman continued to be rude and demanding. I
was at work, and the call became a bit embarrassing. Then I stood up for myself and told her that she was out-of-line calling me at my job to "collect a debt" during the legal grace period. I requested that they designate my work number as a "do not call" number and use the postal service to communicate with me at my post office box number on file. I told her that I would take legal action if I was ever called at work again by anyone from SPS. I am currently working on refinancing this loan. No one deserves to be treated the way I was treated. The woman could have thanked me for giving SPS the opportunity to service my loan and politely reminded me of the date my payment would be late and would incur late fees. SPS stinks. I look forward to a more positive experience with a new lender.

Have been with SPS since December of 2013. In November we applied for a loan through our personal bank. Our bank needed an overnight mailing address and our payoff amount and SPS per diem rate - the person my husband talked to the first time said they could fax us the info. We called our bank to see if they could fax directly to them they said sure. Call SPS back - not only did the person not know what per diem was - they also told my husband there would be a five-day waiting period for us to get the info. That sucks since we could have closed on our loan on Tuesday.
I wrote to tell them what I thought and I got a computer-generated response again with a 5-day waiting period for an answer. Apparently their people don't work very much and know nothing about loans. I also tried for 3 days to create an account so I could make our house payment - every time I was told they would send me an email with a link so I could log in - NEVER did I receive one. Then when my husband talked to them yesterday after not being able to help us -they let him know our payment was due. Since I could not get an account to do it electronically, I mailed it on Monday, January 30th.
This company as far as I can tell is not into customer service at all. I cannot understand why any bank would sell their home loans to what is more or less a collection agency from what I have read. We have always made our house payments automatically when we were with Bank of America - and now this bank is treating us like we are trying to screw them when in reality I think the reverse is true.

We were sold a pitch on a great way to increase cash flow w/ our rentals and home, take out a mortgage that had a ginormous prepayment penalty, negative amortization, ARM after 2 years, and especially not pointed out were the enormous fees the mortgage broker gained at closing. Two years of modification requests w/ BofA (started out w/ Countrywide), then decided we couldn't take the stress anymore as a family and the mortgage monthly payment had doubled, we moved out and sent a certified letter to BofA of our surrender. The mortgage was transferred to SPS and we just receive letters telling us about our interest rate adjustments and their purchase of insurance.
We left over 15 months ago and are treated better than when we lived there. If you physically stay in the home, the banks will threaten foreclosure. You leave and hope the foreclose asap then all foreclosure correspondence ends. If we want to purchase another home in the future, the lending rules say something about "three years after last foreclosure". So who the hell knows when that will be. We tried to do a quit claim or deed of trust transfer back to the bank but their offer was that we had to produce a "clean title" and take claim to the property (even though it had been discharged in bankruptcy). My best guess is that they cannot produce a clean title..the investor was Wells Fargo...and with the crazy stipulations on the loan was probably sliced and diced and sold to investors who knows where. What a crazy mess our country got into by relaxing the lending standards, not informing the consumer of the inevitable downside (was assured by our broker that housing has always gone up except for the Great Depression and the Govt wouldn't let that happen...well read and learn, it did, and will again), selling Mortgage backed securities w/ no substantial asset to back it up.
The home we were in was apparently appraised at the amount the broker needed "to make it work". Hell of a lesson to learn later in life but cringe at the thought of even calling SPS to foreclose on the property...don't want to lend them my emotions for another minute of my life. So the house sits, unoccupied, and what? Is it being carried as an asset..current asset since SPS just acquired it w/in last year. What a financial fiasco this got our country into...I'm not so sure that there aren't thousands of homes that are on banks books as an asset that have been empty for years and our economy is still paying back for the wall street gamblers.

We received a loan mod after working with Countrywide then my loan being sold to Bank of America then it was sold to Select Portfolio. This process was started in 12/08. We reached out to our lender to let them know we were having financial difficulties and now after 20 plus making homes affordable packages filled out, losing and 9.500 in attorney fees, after 1 1/2 years of working with HUD and that being unsuccessful, we now have received a loan modification that will not help us right now. What it did was take all the back payments that we missed "that we were told to do in order to get to loan mod" and interest and take away. It then brought us current and brought our house down to what we paid for it in 2004. They did not lower our interest rate from 9.25 to the 3.00 or even lower now. They did though tack on our taxes and insurance which we were paying on our own. This made our payments go UP. We now are paying for a house that is under water with larger payments.
We have now more debt because of not paying bills on time because Bank of America told of to make it look like we were struggling and if we could pay credit cards we could pay a house payment. Those credit cards now want more than what we can afford. We have a lot of medical bills because of my health issues. We now were just told by SPS that when I asked about lowering the interest rate Richard said "I don't qualify because of our financials. More money is going out than coming in and I should get a second job." I told him this is the holidays and my husband is working close to 80 hours a week and I don't even know what he looks like. Our family is here from out of state and he can 't be home. I am salaried employee so I am capped. I asked "so in order to bring down to interest rate we would need to make more money?" And Richard responded YES. I asked for another making homes affordable packet and we will start over again.

They had told my parents that if they are able to make the new payment amount for the next three months, they will be able to see if they can reduce the payment again. This was told to my parents in the middle of this year 2013. The new payment plan had started in Aug. and would end in October. My parents made the payment on time for the first two months but in October, my family was devastated with the death of my mother. My father still had the last and final payment in October to Chase bank.
At the end of October Chase bank sent all documents and the loan to SPS. SPS had contacted my father asking when he will be making payment because he is past due. My father explained to them of the situation about my mother's death and that the income in the household had dropping significantly. I also talked to them several times and told them of the situation. My father and I both asked them to send paperwork so we may able to see if we can reduce the mortgage payment to fit the income coming into the household.
Since November they have been calling every single day asking when payment will be made but yet no one had told my father what the payments are. They keep telling him he is past due. I finally filled out all the paperwork about two weeks ago, also sent in the necessary documents to support it. I have tried to fax it to them but they said the fax machine is down. I finally got to talk to someone again and finally gave financial information to them because they said it would be faster to process. So I gave the financial information and what he pays in utilities and at the end of the phone call, the woman had told me that my father does not qualify for HAMP modification and that he would have to sell the house. Just like that, they didn't try to help and find a solution so my father wouldn't become homeless. Their only solution was to "sell the house". I for one don't think that it should be the end of it. My father is not 6 to 8 months behind in mortgage payments. I'm sure there is a way to help him stay in the home. Can anyone offer some advice? Please!

For those who care, my part of the lawsuit settlement was to be $4200, which I received $410. This was only one of several financial as well as mental losses to these inept, difficult, and most unorganized organizations I have ever seen in 50 years. The fact is, Select Portfolio Servicing is more inept, and follows more illegal activities than Fairbanks Capital, nothing has changed after they pocketed the remaining 360 million dollars of their valued judgement .
In the latest fiasco, I became unemployed, and after struggling to make my mortgage I was placed in an Unemployment forbearance, and agreed to pay $413 a month until I became employed. After 8 months of being on the program, I got a job, and called one of their representatives to discuss rolling my late fees, and taxes into a modification or refinance. This inept person, did not represent the new plan, accurately, never performed the modification but did discontinue my Federal Unemployment forbearance a month before I even began working. One month later, I call to make a payment. I am told that I am 9 months behind, and failed to complete my Unemployment agreement. So my credit now shows 9 months in arrears, even after making all the payments but the last one under her advice.
Another representative informed me today that my last forbearance payment shows up as a credit, for no explained reason. As we all know there is the fair credit act of 1978, which apparently SPS is unaware of at least until my attorney sets them straight, however another 6 months of hell dealing with these fools until it gets straightened out. In the meantime I have no credit, and could easily lose my home. Select Portfolio Servicing has the worst customer service I have ever seen, and this time, I want retribution and I will get it.
