I also have been going through the loss mitigation department since November. They told me it was worked out in December and let me know that making a payment in January would mess up the process. Now, it is April and I am 4 months behind. I have good news though. I just received my docs and I am happy with my new payment. I have some questions about my escrow but I cannot get a hold of anyone with information. They now want me to sign and send it away but I just wish I could get some answers. This has been a very scary process and I have some tips for any of you. Write down everything!
Every time I call, and I call at least once a week, I write down the name of the person who helped me, the questions they ask, the information they give, etc. Then the next time I call and Joe tells me something new, I let him know that last week, Sally told me this. It seems to make them nervous and anytime I did that, I got a serious reply. Also, twice I went to my local bank and had them call and write me a letter stating what happened. Hopefully, I am in the last step and all will be okay. I love my home and just called to see what they could do to help and suddenly my credit is destroyed (not if I sign) and I owe tons of money (not if I sign). I'm kind of backed up against a wall. By the way, my contribution amount is only $600. I saw some guy that needs $3,000. Well, good luck to me and good luck to all of you.

The website for Chase/WaMu was down for over a week, while Washington Mutual (WaMu) Bank was changing over to Chase Manhattan. I was going to make my credit card payment electronically but couldn't. Instead, I mailed my payment from the post office late Thursday night. Chase claimed they did not receive my payment until Wednesday the next week. Since it was one day late, I was hit with a late fee. After calling customer service and getting nowhere with the service rep, the manager finally credited me with the late fee.
Then I noticed that my interest rate had gone up. They had retroactively (to the start of the previous billing cycle) raised my interest rate from 1.87% to 18.24%. I called customer service again. I got nowhere with the service rep. The manager was not even listening to what I was telling her. She said that it was my fault since (she claimed) they had sent out notices and emails that the website would be down (I was not aware until the site went down). Also, since they offered other options: a phone transfer with a fee, and going to a bank to pay the bill, she claimed it was my fault. It’s too bad if it costs more or if it was inconvenient. I explained to her it was unreasonable to raise my interest rate over 16% just for being one day late considering their website was down.
In addition, the mail should have gotten from CA to IL in less than 5 days, especially when sent from a major post office. She said that it was in the terms and conditions, and there was nothing that she could do. I told her to consider the intent of the rule (not just the literal interpretation), that I was not suddenly a great credit risk for being a day late considering the circumstances. She said that they had rules and regulations, and there was nothing that she could do. I said she had the authority to lower my interest rates. She denied that she did. I asked her who did. She replied, “Nobody, they had rules and regulations that we have to follow.” I said that she had to be wrong; her boss certainly had to have the authority. She asked me if I wanted to talk to her boss. I said sure. She put me on hold and then hung up (and hung me up too). Consequences: over $200 extra in interest for the previous month. And for every month including this month, an additional $200 (or an additional 16%-17% of the balance) until the account is paid off.

I just found out that my mortgage company foreclosed on my property and I found out due to a money-hungry lawyer looking at clerk of courts documents. I was never notified by WaMu. When I called, they said they had tried to reach me on my four contact phone numbers. Not one of them was mine. Now they say I owe them $4,000 and my payment I have sent will be returned because they will no longer take any payment unless it is in full. I must pay a reinstatement fee to their lawyers over and beyond. When I asked how they came up with the number $4,000, they said I had not made a payment since November 2008. Wrong! I then said I have a statement from January.
I was passed to 3 different people who said they had my info and would help. The help was to try and pay the full amount that I don't owe and I needed to contact their lawyers to get the amount. I owe them to be squared away with them. If I can't pay in full, I was told their new president has new plans to help (if I qualify). Not. My neighbor has not paid his mortgage since August 2008 and still no foreclosure. Why? He owes more than the property. While me, they can make a killing on my home. I have too much equity - free money to WaMu.
Side note: I have called their law firm 6 times, all different hours. All voicemails and no return calls. This from a firm that says they are serious about FL foreclosures. Yeah, they're serious about selling people's homes. Their website is all greed. To all WaMu customers, I am sorry and good luck. I served this country. I fought for this country. Now I wish I didn't live in this place because it is no longer a great country to me! When you want to screw your own, that is sad. But be careful, some screw back.

I have spoken to several managers about this, that they are always charging insufficient funds fee because what they do is place the biggest amount first, then they place the small amounts. This week, I was charged $175 insufficient funds fee and last week, on 2/24, $105 then on 3/16, $105 again. I could go on. If you check my records, you would see that they always do the same thing, put the big amount and then place the smaller even if the big amount was done last.

I have been a victim of Chase Bank rearranging debit card transactions so they can charge fees as well. I have $105 in fees charged ($35*3) because they put the largest transaction first which happened 3 days after the smaller transactions. What ever happened to just DENYING the transaction!! I would much rather suffer the humiliation of being denied a purchase than paying a $35 fee for a $6 debit purchase. This practice must STOP immediately. Transactions should be processed in the order they occur, not in the order that a BANK sees fit to process them. They claim there are "holds" on certain types of transactions, but I guarantee that is ** and they have a computer script that works in their favor every time. How could a bank who received $127 BILLION in bailout money continue to FLEECE the middle class with illegal fees and get away with it. Someone in the legal field please take these criminals down immediately!

Deposited my severance check from WAMU - I was laid off in December - in my WAMU account - and a 10 business day hold was placed on the check. The check is from WAMU - signed by the CFO - Tom Casey - has the WAMU logo on it and yet I'm told they have to put a 10 business day hold on the check to make sure it is good. How can they justify a hold on their own funds?

When I opened my HELOC with Washington Mutual for $100,000, their computer could not handle six digits so they input the line for $99,999.99 and told me not to worry about it. I had not used the line at all and began getting threatening letters saying I owed them $0.01, that’s right a penny. I called them and they again told me not to worry about it and apologized. The problem is that they reported it to the credit bureau and it is still showing as a delinquent payment. I would like to enter this in a stupid bank contest.
To add insult to injury they lowered my HELOC from $100,000 to $10,700 in violation of Reg Z, The Truth in Lending Act, Reg B, The Fair Housing Act, and yes they used unfair and deceptive practices. They used a bogus fly by appraisal, which was almost $100,000 less than recent comparable sales in my small neighborhood within the previous two months. There is a reason why they went belly up and the new owner is no better.

I have been charged excessive overdraft fees on my Chase Bank checking account. The fees stem from debit card transactions. When the debit card is presented for payment at a retail establishment and sufficient funds are available in the Chase Bank account the transaction is approved. The problem is that the transaction does not settle for several days in the Chase Bank Account. When items do settle each day, Chase rearranges the transactions so that the largest item settles first followed by the next highest (i.e., from largest to smallest). If an item settles on the same day as the transaction described in the first paragraph which is larger (i.e., settles first) which overdraws the account then Chase will assess an NSF fee on the transaction in the first paragraph (that when presented at the retail establishment was approved because funds were available at that time).
I have been hit the hardest after bank holidays and weekends where numerous debit card transactions are approved over the weekend/holiday (i.e., sufficient funds available and therefore transactions are approved) but on a subsequent business day when the transactions settle in my checking account a large draft such as an automatic EFT set up to pay a credit card etc (i.e., EFT is set up to clear on the business day - Not over the weekend or holiday) settles on the same day as the debit card transactions. If the EFT is the largest item it settles first (regardless if all debit card transactions were approved in previous days). If the EFT transaction overdraws the account then Chase charges an NSF fee for every debit card transaction over the weekend or Holiday. Each fee is approx $35 and can add up to several hundred dollars.
My complaint is that if a debit card transaction is approved for payment because sufficient funds are in the bank account at the time the debit card is presented at a retail establishment, etc, then once approved funds in the Chase Bank account should be earmarked or restricted to pay for the approved transaction. For people who live pay check to pay check and bank balances can drop close to zero it is extremely difficult to keep up with the manner transactions settle in a Chase bank account. The funds charged are extremely excessive. If transactions settled lowest to highest, normally there would only be one NSF fee opposed to numerous fees charged. Someone needs to challenge Chase on this. It makes no sense to me that you can use your debit card one day when sufficient funds are available only to get charged a fee for insufficient funds several days later on that transaction.

First, important of note, I do NOT have an actual account with Chase. I get unemployment through an account through Chase. I get it regularly as I get paid unemployment in down time from my job as a school bus driver.
I get checks from my boss as a DJ through personal checks. His account is through Chase Bank. As I do not have an account anywhere, I have to cash it at a Chase location. (My ex made an account in my name with my info and made it overdrawn. This put me into check systems.) Anyhow, they charge me $5 for EACH CHECK! This has to be illegal as it's out of THEIR BANK! I don't know of any banks that do this other than Chase. I could understand if it was out of another bank and me trying to cash it at Chase, but that is plain ridiculous.
I signed up for Netflix using my Chase Card. Because Chase didn't switch my zip code, I had to try more than once with Netflix. All they do is check to see if funds are there. FIVE TIMES it came out of my account! For a total of about $80! Chase did their best to NOT help me. From under trained customer service people to MANAGER Idella (ID number **) being more rude than I have EVER had service, ANYWHERE. This includes the DMV AND Wal Mart!
They told me I could get info from Netflix to get it taken off of my account. Then when I called with it, they gave me the runaround and said that Netflix had to fax this info. Then told me I couldn't have the fax number to just give them. Which would have been easier than arguing. THEN made Netflix call on a line that only accepts customers of Chase (one that needed my CC# and pin) THEN told Netflix to call a different number for that fax number that I was told would be made available when Netflix called the main line. They even gave Netflix a hard time when we made the 3 way call to Chase.
BANK ELSEWHERE!!!! CHASE is nothing but criminal. Currently, Netflix is sending a fax with the cancellation of the FIVE charges. Of course Chase took it out within SECONDS of getting it and it'll take 1-3 business days to put it back. CRIMINALS!

I have never experienced such abject indifference and rudeness to customer service dealing with any other bank or business in my entire life. I went to use one of their atms where supposedly the atm scans your check and automatically processes it. First time the atm said it could not read my check and returned it so I tried again the second time the atm said it could not read my check and didn't return it. I went to the branch manager who told me it wasn't her problem. That I needed to call the phone number next to the atm. Furious, I called the number and was put on hold for NO JOKE 30 minutes after the robot kept telling me that they were experiencing high call volume and should call back another time.
Eventually when I got through to a person they were one of the rudest people that I've ever had to deal with and seemed almost ticked off that I had the nerve to call. She asked me for the exact amount of the check, which I told her was approximately a thousand dollars but was unsure of the exact amount as I work different hours every week and it changes so I had not looked at the exact amount before stupidly shoving it into the black hole that is Chase atm machines. She told me that they needed to know because they would look for the exact check so I ran to my car to root around for the pay stub which I found and told her the exact amount. Afterwards she said WITH AN ATTITUDE that the amount would be credited to my account within 24 hours until they resolved everything.
THAT WAS almost 4 days ago!!! I've called daily and it seems every person I speak to doesn't know their ** from their elbow and no one seems to know what happened to my check. I didn't receive a claim number and just got off the phone with a women in India who told me that she doesn't see a record of anything but that their system is updating. GOD HELP ME if tomorrow when I go to the branch if no one knows what happened to my check I'm going to go there with the cops and make a scene, call them and say that I have a dispute with a business owner and they have to show up. I recommend anyone who has a problem with this bank do the same. Get their business ID number and complain to the Consumer Affairs department, Better Business Bureau and attorney general's office.

As a busy professional, and average American, I waited until the last minute to try and pay my WAMU payment on 12/30 that was due on 12/31. I already knew that one of their scams (that NO OTHER CARD DOES) is charge you $14.95 to make a payment ON the due date. Well, it's still 12/30, late evening, and I tried to log in to their website, but could not because it was down for maintenance or otherwise down for increased $14.95 fees. I figured, well dang, guess I will pay the fee then ask for reimbursement since their website was down. They denied my request.
I am sure this is criminal in some way. They trained me that the deadline is day before the due date, but then take down their website during the last several hours so they can get more fees. I am certain they do it on purpose and with or without proof would win in jury trial. However, I am not interested in that, just PISSED and wanted to tell people about it. I am done, I will xfer my balance ($3400) off and don't care if they close my account like they did on another WAMU card that I almost never used so they closed it due to inactivity. They really live up to their "kick you when down" reputation the credit cards are getting these days. As a rule, I try to avoid these low-end companies and use more reputable companies like AMEX and Discover.
