How does Alleviate Tax work?

Alleviate Tax’s primary service is helping individuals resolve tax debts and negotiate with the IRS to reduce or eliminate outstanding liabilities. Additional services include wage garnishment removal, tax lien resolution and filing delinquent tax returns (back taxes) to restore good standing.

Alleviate Tax uses a four-step process to achieve tax relief and reach compliance with the IRS.

Free consultation

You’ll start with a phone-based evaluation to review your tax situation and determine if you qualify for tax relief. The free consultation can take as little as 15 minutes, and there’s no obligation to use Alleviate Tax’s services at any point.

You can call 1-888-859-8291 to speak with a specialist during its hours of operation, which are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST).

Phase 1: investigation

After enrollment, you’ll submit documentation and authorizations allowing Alleviate Tax to contact the IRS on your behalf. A dedicated tax professional will review your IRS records and prepare a detailed report about your compliance status and potential relief options.

Note that there’s no obligation to continue to Phase 2 after the initial phase. However, you must pay for and complete Phase 1 to get a quote for Phase 2.

Phase 2: active resolution

If you qualify for a resolution program, Alleviate Tax will work to bring your filings current and negotiate with the IRS to reduce or restructure your tax debt. This step may take two to 10 months, depending on the complexity of your case.

Resolution

Once your case is resolved, you will be fully compliant with the IRS.

Alleviate Tax services

Alleviate Tax offers a range of services focused on helping individuals resolve IRS tax debt and return to compliance. Most services are designed to reduce or restructure liabilities through available IRS programs and legal pathways. Its services include:

Tax resolution assistance

Tax resolution assistance provides strategic guidance for addressing IRS issues, including notice responses and debt reduction through relief programs that may lower penalties, fees and interest.

IRS Fresh Start program

Alleviate Tax can help eligible individuals apply for the IRS Fresh Start program to avoid aggressive tax collection actions like wage garnishment or property seizure.

Penalty abatement

This service assists taxpayers in requesting penalty abatement, which is the removal or reduction of IRS-imposed penalties and interest for qualifying taxpayers who have failed to file or pay taxes on time.

Offer in compromise

An offer in compromise (OIC) pursues settlement agreements for taxpayers who can’t reasonably pay their full tax debt. It aims for significantly reduced balances when eligibility criteria are met.

Wage garnishment removal

With this option, Alleviate Tax will negotiate with the IRS to stop wage garnishments and establish payment arrangements that restore financial stability.

Delinquent tax return filings

Alleviate Tax will reconstruct and file unsubmitted tax returns using IRS records to correct substitute returns and regain compliance.

Bank levy release

With this service, Alleviate Tax will work to stop IRS levies on bank accounts by establishing payment plans or negotiating alternative resolutions.

Installment agreements

This option will secure an IRS payment plan, including partial pay options, for individuals unable to pay their tax debt in full. It often involves negotiating reduced penalties or interest.

Innocent spouse relief

Alleviate Tax will assist clients in removing tax liability that legally belongs to a current or former spouse, including related interest and penalties.

Currently not collectible status

With this option, Alleviate Tax will help financially distressed clients qualify for currently not collectible status, which will pause IRS collection efforts while the 10-year statute of limitations on tax debt is active.

California tax attorney

Alleviate Tax also provides tax attorney services for California taxpayers who need help resolving their tax debt.

Alleviate Tax pricing

Alleviate Tax uses a flat-fee pricing model with separate charges for the investigation and resolution phases, rather than billing by the hour. In general, tax relief services typically cost anywhere from $250 to $10,000, depending on the provider and the complexity of your case.

While Alleviate Tax doesn’t publish specific rates, you’ll receive exact pricing during the free consultation, before committing to Phase 1. You’re not obligated to continue with Phase 2 after completing Phase 1, though you must pay for and complete Phase 1 to get pricing for Phase 2. All fees must be paid in full before each phase begins.

    Contract & TermsStaffBillingLoan Process

I spent 10k for their services only for them to offer the same payment plan at 825 bucks a month that I could have done on my own and that I had done in the past. They sold me on helping to reduce the amount owed only to say they can't reduce what I owe and now I'm in further debt from the loan I took out for their services hoping to come out owing less.

This company is a complete scam, I paid them 6,000 USD for them to help me with my back taxes, they didn't do anything for 2 years, they would always ask me for additional documents every 6 months and I never saw any results, I demanded a refund and of course they came out with millions excuses trying to explain why they didn't do anything during 2 years, then offered me to reopen my case but I needed to pay an extra fee for them to get the case reopened. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.

Never did anything for me that I couldn't have done on the IRS website. Plus they charged me $22k upfront and didn't "Alleviate" any of my tax debt. Although I must say the people I dealt with there were polite and professional, they painted a beautiful picture but it never developed as they said. Even when I started ranting at them because of the failure that was my tax case they stayed cool and calm. I guess they get lots of practice at it.

      Reviewed Nov. 30, 2025

I responded to an FB ad hoping to secure the services. Nice marketing rep told me what they could do. Alleviate did nothing for me and initially asked for a fee more than $12,000 dollars which I didn’t pay. Then it tried to set me up with a loan which I didn’t pursue. I paid 2 initial payments totaling $695 - I called and emailed several times without responses to cancel the service and refund the payments. No meaningful services have been rendered. Extremely disappointed and am considering next action to be taken.
