What is Alleviate Tax?

Founded in 2018, California-based Alleviate Tax operates as a national tax relief and preparation firm specializing in aggressive representation before the IRS. Its primary service is helping individuals resolve tax debts and negotiate with the IRS to reduce or eliminate outstanding liabilities.

Additional services include wage garnishment removal, tax lien resolution and filing delinquent tax returns (back taxes) to restore good standing. Business-related support such as bookkeeping, entity formation and tax planning is also available. Alleviate Tax’s approach centers on personalized service tailored to each client’s unique situation with an emphasis on transparency and ethical practices throughout the resolution process.

How does Alleviate Tax work?

Alleviate Tax uses a four-step process to achieve tax relief and reach compliance with the IRS. Here’s a quick breakdown of the steps:

  1. Free consultation: Begin with a phone-based evaluation to review your tax situation and determine if you qualify for relief. Call 1-888-859-TAX1 (8291) to speak with a specialist. Alleviate Tax’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST.
  2. Phase 1, investigation: After enrollment, you’ll submit documentation and authorizations allowing Alleviate Tax to contact the IRS on your behalf. A dedicated tax professional reviews your IRS records and prepares a detailed report outlining your compliance status and potential relief options. You must pay for and complete Phase 1 to get a quote for Phase 2.
  3. Phase 2, active resolution: If you qualify for a resolution program, Alleviate Tax works to bring your filings current and negotiate with the IRS to reduce or restructure your tax debt. This step may take two to ten months, depending on your case. There is no obligation to continue to Phase 2 after the initial phase.
  4. Resolution: Once your case is resolved, Alleviate Tax offers continued support to help you stay in good standing and avoid future IRS issues.

Alleviate Tax services

Alleviate Tax offers a range of services focused on helping individuals resolve IRS tax debt and return to compliance. Most services are designed to reduce or restructure liabilities through available IRS programs and legal pathways. Services include:

  • Tax resolution assistance: Provides strategic guidance for addressing IRS issues, including notice responses and debt reduction through relief programs that may lower penalties, fees and interest.
  • IRS Fresh Start program: Helps eligible individuals and small businesses in applying for IRS Fresh Start options to avoid aggressive collection actions like wage garnishment or property seizure.
  • Penalty abatement: Assists taxpayers in requesting penalty abatement, or the removal or reduction of IRS-imposed penalties and interest for qualifying taxpayers who failed to file or pay taxes on time.
  • Offer in Compromise (OIC): An offer in compromise pursues settlement agreements for taxpayers who cannot reasonably pay their full tax debt, aiming for significantly reduced balances when eligibility criteria are met
  • Wage garnishment removal: Negotiates with the IRS to stop wage garnishments and establish payment arrangements that restore financial stability.
  • Delinquent tax return filings: Reconstructs and files unsubmitted tax returns using IRS records to correct substitute returns and regain compliance.
  • Bank levy release: Works to stop IRS levies on bank accounts by establishing payment plans or negotiating alternative resolutions.
  • Installment agreements: Secures IRS payment plans, including partial pay options, for individuals unable to pay their tax debt in full, often negotiating reduced penalties or interest.
  • Innocent spouse relief: Assists clients in removing tax liability that legally belongs to a current or former spouse, including related interest and penalties.
  • “Currently not collectible” status: Helps financially distressed clients qualify for non-collectible status, pausing IRS collection efforts while the 10-year statute of limitations on tax debt continues to run.
  • Other services: Offers bookkeeping, tax planning and entity formation (business registration and structuring).

Alleviate Tax pricing

Alleviate Tax uses a flat-fee pricing model with separate charges for the investigation and resolution phases, rather than billing by the hour. In general, tax relief services cost anywhere from $700 to $10,000, depending on the provider and the complexity of your case.

While Alleviate Tax doesn’t publish specific rates, you’ll receive exact pricing during the free consultation, before committing to either phase. You’re not obligated to continue with Phase 2 after completing Phase 1. This phased approach provides transparency and allows clients to understand the cost structure up front.

Never did anything for me that I couldn't have done on the IRS website. Plus they charged me $22k upfront and didn't "Alleviate" any of my tax debt. Although I must say the people I dealt with there were polite and professional, they painted a beautiful picture but it never developed as they said. Even when I started ranting at them because of the failure that was my tax case they stayed cool and calm. I guess they get lots of practice at it.

      Reviewed Nov. 30, 2025

I responded to an FB ad hoping to secure the services. Nice marketing rep told me what they could do. Alleviate did nothing for me and initially asked for a fee more than $12,000 dollars which I didn’t pay. Then it tried to set me up with a loan which I didn’t pursue. I paid 2 initial payments totaling $695 - I called and emailed several times without responses to cancel the service and refund the payments. No meaningful services have been rendered. Extremely disappointed and am considering next action to be taken.
