We recently received a Target Visa card for $50. We tried using it at a restaurant for the full 50. We were informed the card would only go through for $40. I called the number on the card and the agent advised me they always assume any user of the card would apply a 20% tip, so the card would only be approved for $40 and change. This is completely ** ridiculous. I, as the card holder and owner, should not have an implied or imposed amount applied to my card. I should have the right to have them run the card for whatever amount I deem fit and appropriate. The amount I use my card for should not be dictated by what Target thinks the responsible amount should be. As of now, I will never purchase or condone the use or purchase of any Target card or gift card.

I never received bill for 6 mos and when I asked to remove late fees of $250 they would not and my credit dropped 150 points. They have cost me now 1000's in interest because I can't get low interest loans. I am a full time student. I hate these people. They never even called me to tell me about my outstanding debt.

I called to have a late fee removed from my account. My son was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia on Wednesday 11/2 and was discharged 11/5. My payment was due 11/3. I made a payment 11/7 and they refused to waive the late fee!!! I thought this was so rude and disrespectful. I requested to speak to a supervisor and was advised they would tell me the same thing. I advised her that I wanted the call to be transferred to escalations and she asked why again and I explained that due to the circumstance it should be waived. After notating the account she stated someone would call me within 24-48hrs and that I will need to answer because a message won't be left. So now I'm waiting. I will be canceling my card if they don't waive the fee. That would be so non-empathetic of the company.

I will NEVER shop at this ** store again!!! I went online to start my Xmas shopping for my grandchildren before I go in for surgery so I would have it taken care of and could relax, but no, Target put a hold on my account until I fax my social and my driver's license because THEY couldn't send me a confirmation number to MY phone number that I've had now for 30 years!!! I REFUSE to shop at this store or the online store again. Target treated me like absolute crap!! I've never felt like more of an ** than I did while talking to the customer service rep. I canceled my card with them and will NEVER go back. I have plenty of other cards that won't put me through this much hassle when you're using what you got approved for. See ya Target!!! You definitely WILL NOT be missed!!! A little bit of advice... Change how you handle certain credit card issues or be prepared to lose more cardholders in the future!!!

San Francisco does not have many of the discount stores that exist in other places, and yet is known as an extremely expensive place to live. I personally would love to support Target because in the middle of the 2016 internet frenzy around LGBT people (and seriously, non-LGBT) persons and restrooms, Target's management made a declaration about how anyone visiting Target could use the bathroom of their choice - this was met with a backlash and internet protests declaring boycotts of Target stores - and all of that only made me more determined to buy anything and everything I could at Target to counteract that stance which I cannot possibly agree with (see earlier note that indicates I live in San Francisco).
And then Target themselves has been as difficult as possible with regards to their credit card - and wants to charge me excessive fees for problems exacerbated by their own Redcard payment website - and no, Target, I am not willing to go along with your unfair and bizarre fee scheme, whereas if you'd just played decently - just fairly - not excessively in one direction or the other - I would have been your ideal shopper for life, even though we don't get the discounts available to a Target store in the suburbs - that much is clear from your separate but not equal flyers in Sunday newspapers. But you tell me "x" on the phone, your website obscures "x" and tries to tell me something irrelevant like "j". You continue to send me statements indicating I owe "$29" and my minimum balance is "$25?" Wtf?
I was completely transparent with your website, your phone operator, my last couple of payments that didn't quite work out that you assured me over the phone were now all taken care of? Then either you are unscrupulous, and might as well hang "TRUMP" over your inner city stores and reveal the "pretend everyone can use our bathrooms" was only to catch photos of those trying to have such luxuries as "phones", "internet access", "credit cards" and "a 5% discount to our store" in order to catch us in 900% weirdo fakeass fees. You owe your own, very nice, customer service reps, more than this. They should not have to spend their entire shift defending you against your chronic **.

The 5% discount is not worth the hassle. Ended up having ~$170 fees on a single $60 purchase, really hurt my credit score in the process. Never received my card or any bills. (I know I could have called them to check instead of waiting). I was willing to pay off my full balance if they could remove just 1 late fee out of the 5 that I had. They were very apologetic but assured me that was not possible even knowing that they would lose a customer for life and receive poor reviews. It’s sad that a couple of dollars (that Target probably won’t even see that much of) was worth it. I will not be shopping at Target ever again. I thought Target was a great store but contracting with a shady credit card company has tainted my opinion of Target. Target should reconsider the approach they taught their cashiers to pressure all customer into signing up for a Redcard.

After reporting our card stolen, we were treated like second class citizens and criminals. Our account got locked down and we were no longer able to make payments online. We had to call in each time to make a payment. When asked about getting it fixed the man told us that we needed to prove who we were by faxing in a drivers license and social security card. This is the worst customer service ever. When we had a similar incident with another card, they politely made sure the card was canceled and we were issued a new one after a series of questions were asked of us. This make it very inconvenient for us to have to wait on hold for customer service and to be treated like a criminal when it was us who lost our cards during a move and could have someone trying to use our cards. I feel like they are treating us poorly and like bad customers. I will pay this card off and NEVER go back there again!!!

We used to like shopping at Target; however, our experience with their REDcard this year left us with bitter feelings towards this corporation. We have excellent credit ratings and have never been treated so poorly by any other credit card company. They suggested we didn't know how to manage our credit. The real story was that they changed our billing to paperless without our knowledge and then when we didn't pay the bill on time they charged us late fees. They said "it wouldn't be fair to our other customers" if they reversed the charges. Their devious business practices ended up costing us an extra $60 on a $30 charge. That's the kind of savings you get at Target! We will shop elsewhere.

Do not get this card, no matter how many times the Target check-out person asks! This card has the worst customer service that I have ever encountered in my life! I had 2 fraudulent charges on my account. They were happy to put a hold on it, but I have now called 5 times and am not able to have my identification "verified" by them in order to have the fraud investigated and the charges refunded. First they said that my cell phone number (which has been in my account for years, which they have actually called in the past to check on a charge) is not verified, so they can't use that to send me the verification code. They also can't use my home number, because the only way they have to do that is to use a computerized call that is blocked on my home phone. They insist that I need to remove this, but I can't get into that account to do that, and I shouldn't need to!
They suggested that I try another cell phone number, so I gave them husband's, which also "could not be verified". The representative I just spoke to told me that she was going to mark my account so that I couldn't waste any more of her or another supervisor's time, then she hung up on me! They are just avoiding refunding my fraudulent charges, which I think are the result of another breach in their system, since this card was not used any other places in the month prior to the fraud. I will never shop at Target or use this card again!

I applied for a Target Red Card Debit Card about a year ago. I used to love shopping at Target. However my recent experience has been very embarrassing for me. I spent over 1500.00 at Target two weeks ago and had never had an issue with my card prior to this. Today my card was declined at the register. I immediately called the customer service number because I was embarrassed at the register. Thanks Target. When I called I was told I had too many transactions apparently you are not allowed to shop at Target more than twice a week. Even though you have an excellent account standing. When I was told this I asked if there was a limit I was told no. Lie number one. Yet I was declined for it.
I was told I had to wait for those transactions to go through before I could use my card again. When I asked how long it would be before the transactions closed, the lady took it upon herself to close my account. Which now according to them could. It cannot be reopened unless I went to reapply. That if I reapply it would be one day processing. They lied again. After they make you waste your time reapplying it's 7-10 days for the reapplication to be processed. I truly was a shopper who loved Target. However this experience I've had with Target has been so embarrassing. Especially since I've shopped there for so long and so much I knew a lot of the customer service reps by name.
So even more embarrassing on my part. I officially from this point on will boycott Target. I write for the Orlando Sentinel and local area papers that I will gladly rehash my experience so that no customer of Target will have to go through what I did. It's really a shame when you repay your customer's loyalty the way Target has. You should be ashamed Target. You lost a great and dedicated customer. But you obviously don't care about how your customers feel. That was made very clear to me today.

My name is Leann and I currently got a REDcard from Target in Stockton, Ca. I thought it would be a good way to start off my credit with target. Well I was wrong. The first day I got the redcard they said I wouldn't be able to use it and then I only put a $100 credit on a laptop and I paid it off. Seeing that I had no more payments I tried to get $200 worth of credit to get a ps4 but they said I had no more credit. In order to buy anything else it had to be cash.
So I called later that night and they said I owed $108.70. Okay where did all this money owed came from?? They say I got the redcard, they told me I would be able to use it and I bought a $50 dollar dresser and paid in full. Good thing I use my card & they used my card without permission or my knowledge to charge me twice. Now I have to waste more money to fax my bank statements and spend more money over this **. Look, here are the facts: Target's Red Card system is run through TD Bank, which is a Canadian Bank that is almost awful. The most selfish, rudest, and fraudulent bank whose only goal is to steal from their own customers. The Interest Rate on Red Card is above 23% for only a 5% savings on your purchases. This is a bad idea, don't recommend, especially since TD Bank is the biggest joke bank and cannot answer for their devilish methods. Stick to real banks like BoA and do not get the card.

In the beginning of Sept I get a decline on my Red card at target and immediately call the target redcard phone line. I was told that in March, I was mailed out a new card with a chip in it. I didn't get that letter. Anyways I ask for a new card to be sent to me. With a signature required, the card gets shipped to my workplace. I call in to authorize the card, I can't.
Rep 1 is telling me that she has to transfer my call. The line disconnects. Back on the phone line and I get transferred to rep 3. I get told by rep 3 that he can't send me a text verification code because my number isn't updated. What?! I called target the month before to update my information since I changed my phone number... I guess that didn't get done. Nor did it get done the time I verified my info when I requested a new card to get ship to me. Anyways I ask for a manager. 30 minutes go by and I get transferred to a Manager (Here's rep 4) that asks me to fax in my social security card as well as my ID. I respectfully decline. No I'm not faxing in my social! Target, are you going crazy??? After declining, he recaps to says that procedure is one of two things... I need to fax in my stuff or I basically can't use my credit card. I've made the decision to close my acct.

I opened a Target store card June 2016 at the register after refusing but the cashier going on and on to make the commission. I finally caved and it has been the worst nightmare since. I have several store credit accounts and regular credit accounts, am ALWAYS religiously on time with payments and making payments even when I don't have to so I can get ahead. Never ever a problem until Target. I opened the acct in June, making a $40 dollar purchase of toys for my boys. As soon as I received the card in the mail, I registered the card, opened an online account and made the payment.
A few weeks later, I go to check on the account as I do look over all my acct every so often, even if I know I haven't had any activity. Fraud happens all the time and I try to be sure on top of that. I find that I was charged a late fee and now my balance is $60 something. I call, speak to rep, they say it looks like I attempted to pay but then canceled the payment. I say ok, maybe... just MAYBE, I truly did make the mistake of hitting cancel instead of submit when paying the bill. So I ate it... and paid the amount with late fee. System says thank you for payment, I move on. I check the acct again in a few days giving it time to post the payment... and sure enough, account says payment posted. TO THIS DAY IT SAYS PAYMENT POSTED.
I get a bill in the mail 3 weeks later charging me for the initial purchase and late fee I just paid, plus another late fee for nonpayment and a bank return fee. What? I try calling, Rep is rude and dumb. Can't figure out what's going on, I ask to speak to a supervisor. I'm told she made the note for one to call me back. I never got a call. I called again to try to resolve and again rep can't do anything putting in request for supervisor callback... No supervisor calls. All in all, I spoke to a rep who could not help me in any way other try to take money that I did not owe, at least 5 times. No supervisor ever called back.
I had a bill due yesterday, I tried to talk to someone again... no luck. Of course now it's late again... I get a call from Target card services on an attempt to collect a debt today! So you can call me the day after a bill is due to collect the additional late fee you're charging me and not willing to take off, but a supervisor can't make 1 call over the last week months!?!? Absurd!!! What has me pissed off even more is that they are reflecting this as negative activity on my credit report! Their negligence and lack of follow through is now my negative activity!? I can't even begin to explain how frustrated and livid I am. But you know what, karma will come back to bite them.

Having a Target card is the biggest regret and headache and I no longer shop there. When I signed up to pay online they stopped sending me statements. I try to cancel my card and she is not happy about what I had to say about Target. Nothing accomplished!! Target has the poorest customer service, website and fees of all of my credit cards. I have great credit and set up autopay for all of my credit cards. When changing banks, I updated my bank information however there was a apparently obscure link to use that same account info for autopay so I was assess a fee when I discovered I missed a payment. Despite being a customer for 6 years and following the asinine customer service procedure of having a supervisor call me back (they will only call once at any time of the day/night and if you miss the call, they will not try again and you'll need to repeat the original process) they would not refund the fee. Now they lost a high earning customer who is glad Target is going out of business due to Amazon!

I have been shopping at Target for approximately 15 years and love it. In May 2015, I opened a REDcard credit (there's three types of cards they offer). I made payments on time and life was grand. In May 2016, I joined bank accounts with my new husband and canceled my own. I immediately called to notify Target and update the new account info for the following bills. All seemed well. Late June, my payment did not go through, and I only noticed when reviewing my bank account activity without the usual Target transaction. I call and the rep I speak with says the payment was returned, removes the late fee, inputs the bank account info again and resubmits the payment. Great.
Late July, same situation. Payment returned, I call, fees removed, bank information resubmitted a third time. Throughout this ordeal, Target never emailed me once to let me know these payments are being returned or confirm the "corrections" have been made with a follow up email after phone conversations. On August 14th, my card gets declined for a fourteen dollar purchase. I'm Leaving that night to be out of town for a week, so I'll call when I get back. August 26th, my payment finally goes through as I see it in my bank account!! Wonderful! I can't believe I made 3 phone calls to avoid ME entering the new bank info wrong only to have them screw up and entering the info myself is what saves me!!
August 29th, my card gets declined. I call and the rep I speak with says the payment may take 24-48 hours after it's posted. I argue a bit because it was posted on the 24th and withdrawn the 26th, but on the 29th, I have to wait two MORE days to use my card? He says "yes, have a good day." September 1st, I receive two letters in my mail from Target. The first dated August 24th says my account has been closed due to too many returned payments. The second dated August 25th says "please contact us about your account status." If they actually made that decision on to close my account after not paying August, wait until after you actually attempt to process August's payment!! AND why would the man I spoke with on August 29th not tell me that my account is closed if they closed it on or before August 24th??!
Today, September 3rd, I called to confirm my closed account and explain the situation and my confusion with how their repeated mistakes have left me without an account. I was transferred twice and on hold three times for a total of 11 minutes. At the end of me explaining what THEY have done to put ME in this situation, the rep says "well ma'am I don't understand but you can always open another account." I was furious. How do they not keep record of phone conversations and when they interacted with their customers? How can they admit responsibility for updating incorrect information by waiving a late fee TWICE, but dismiss my own attempt after?? I'm beyond disappointed with Target. After their security breach, I should have known better than to open an account. Can anyone tell me if this will affect my credit score (I had the REDcard credit NOT the REDcard MasterCard)?

The website does not reveal the info once you input it. I only used it for a payment or two. But a whole year, Target insists that whenever I utilize my original bank info (the same one I have been using since 2013), it has insufficient funds.
After 12 months of going back and forth, having their reps do a 3 way call with my bank to verify and even disputing payments that Target reps have consented on my behalf and a load of other mishaps, they decided to close my account, charge me for late fees and penalties, and insist that I need to make a payment. According to Target, I am 30 days late, and if I want to reopen the account, I need to reapply. I will NEVER own a Target Red Card again. Card and company is a totally mess. Useless card. I received my Target REDcard in January 2016. Knowing I had a balance I had issues accessing my account online. I contacted Target, got it fixed and paid the bill. At this time we discussed the fact that I did not receive a bill and the representative said they had the issue resolved. I used the card shortly after and immediately got online and paid the bill through my online banking. I did not use the card again for several months (4/9/2016) and when I did it was a small amount under $50. At this point I still had not received any sort of bill from Target REDcard. I forgot that I had used the card and did not receive any bills (nor attempt to use the card) through the months of April, May or June.
On July 13, 2016 I received a collection notice in the amount of $108.77 stating I was overdue. Confused I called and was told if I paid the bill in full once the account was current they would work with me to remove the late fees as I didn't receive ANY bill reminders nor did I use the card during this time. On July 25, 2016 I called and was informed since I had already paid the bill they would not remove any fees or remove the mark on my credit report. I explained the situation but was informed that they had sent electronic bills to my email address and it wasn't their fault I didn't receive them.
A quick Google search shows this is a common problem with Target and they should be held accountable for charging fees to people without notifying them they have a balance. Had this been a one month issue I would be more understanding but as the bill progressed for months without notification while they continued to increase my balance is unacceptable. My credit score is over 800 and I can prove I do not let bills slide. They on the other hand have numerous complaints regarding this issue. I have closed my account and will not do business with Target again.

Glutton for punishment, I used the card and signed up for electronic billing statements like I have used with my Discover Card without problems for years. The second billing statement was due, guess what, no reminder e-mail that the bill was ready. Found out when my card was declined at the cash register. Called them, the first overseas rep insisted it could not have happened because it was an "automated" process. Called back and asked for USA, the guy I talked to apologized and credited the late fees.
Recently I got a letter saying that my card was being turned off because I would be getting a new "chip" card. Guess what, I never got a new chip card, so I have no card. It wouldn't allow me to go further without a card number. It is a very dump design/system. After I read all the fine print, the only way to contact them is through mail. Come on Target, please move to the 21st century. I want to contact their people at least through email. Even though you're red, it doesn't mean you can go green by saving some papers.

I want everyone to be aware of the red card. I have used this card for over 3 years, never late and sometimes paid over the amount due. I was late and never realized it - I was not contacted in any form. I found out when going to purchase a home that my credit dropped because I was 31 days late on a target card. I called them to have it removed as a courtesy. They said nope, once 31 days past due it's on the Credit for 12 months. I said I was never contacted. It was even 1-30 days late and they said still nothing they can do.
I will no longer use this card and will probably just talk bad about them from now on, they were not even willing to try to help or anything. I have always enjoyed Target but now I am not even sure they will get my business anymore. I am sad as now I may have to wait another year before I decide to buy a home because of the interest rate difference. Thank you Target for making my dreams come true. I hope you are happy with the way you treat your customers.

I did not need another credit card and always turn them down. Even when they ask THREE times in one sales transaction. Anyway, this day I forgot my wallet. It's a common occurrence, but luckily I had it in the car so I ran out and got it. The cashier told me that if I had the Red Card I could use the Target App and I could pay at the register with it. I have Apple Pay but they don't accept any of that nor like Starbucks have their own payment method. I asked for clarification and she explained it again. So I got the card but she lied. When I called they told me I could use Apple Pay but this was wrong too. Finally I was able to cancel my card. They should not lie just to get a gift card for making a customer open a new account.

Ok I am so irritated with Target and their so-called policy. I paid off my balance of $35.00 in April by phone talking to a real person on the phone. Apparently my payment for my $35.00 was 3 days late but nothing was mentioned about a $25.00 late fee which I would gladly have paid at the time. So now I feel that my account is paid in full so I disregard any monthly statements thinking they were coupons, advertisements, whatever until this month I am like, "why do I keep getting these?" So I open it up and have a $89.00 balance that is past due.
So I call and they explain to me that I am being charged a late fee for my late fee back in April. What? Well why didn't they tell me at the time that I was late and I would have paid it then but for now I am willing to pay the $25.00 late fee for April if they drop the other charges. No no no. Their policy is after 31 days they can't reverse the late fee. Are you kidding me? How deceitful and irritating!
So unless I pay the total of $89.14 I will continue to be charged a late fee each month for the next 9 months and at that time they turn it over to an outside agency. Wow wow wow. What horrendous customer service!!! So unless I pay the 89.14 (that by the way is for 3 months). So by the end of the year I will have over $300.00 to pay. Isn't there someone or something anyone can do about this? I am seriously unhappy about this situation.

I opened up a Target red card after a sales pitch of getting a big discount off my Christmas shopping purchase. Biggest mistake I have made since I hadn't done my research. The interest rates and fees are steep and customer service is horrible! I spent $300 this past January and paid the whole sum within a month. However there was a returned check and my account began accumulating fees unknowingly. Target did not notify me of this returned check situation and once I noticed it was because my credit score had taken a huge hit! Not only was Target unprofessional on not notifying me but extremely rude when I called to explain the situation. Over $110 of fees and interest had been accumulated over a simple $300 purchase. I paid the whole amount again as soon as I realized this but no apologies or consideration was taken.

I have had a Target CC since 2003. I just received a call from a debt collection company saying I owed them nearly $300. According to them I had a $47 balance on my Target card in April of 2015 that I had not paid. I have a very high credit score and pay my bills on time. I said I moved at the end of June but had never received a bill while living at my old address from April to June, nor had I received any forwarded mail from Target since then. I then called Target and was told I should know if I had a balance and I should have called them. They couldn't seem to understand that I can't pay a balance if I don't get a bill. When I got no bills I assumed I had a $0 balance. I usually pay cash so I haven't used my card in over a year. I have always liked shopping at Target but that ends today.

I recently obtained a Target Debit Card in-store by supplying a blank check to tie it to my bank account. Weeks later, my wallet was stolen, which contained the Target Debit Card. I called my bank and Credit Union to obtain replacement cards and was asked security questions, which I answered correctly, so they mailed out my replacement cards. I called Target and was given a big hassle.
First off, when I had set up the account, they wanted a physical, as well as mailing address. So I gave both of those addresses. When I called for the replacement, I was told that I provided an incorrect address (mailing). I told the rep this has been my mailing address for several years and had been on my application. He just wanted to argue with me. I also answered even more security questions than my banks had asked. Then he told me I would need to fax in my driver's license and social security cards to verify my ID. I refused, saying I did not want my ID available to be misused. He took verbal offense at that, saying that would never happen. I again refused and asked why they had security questions if they did not want to accept the correct answers. He told me I could not get a replacement card without supplying the info by fax.
So I decided to go into the store to see what I could do. After all, when setting up the account, it was extremely easy and nobody seemed too worried that I was who I said I was. The rep was very nice after I explained my problem, and she thought that starting over with a new application would be the way to go. So she filled one out, and days later, I received a letter of denial saying I could not have a new account because I already had an account.
I again called on the issue. I asked them to close the account and was told they could not close the account. I explained again about having my wallet stolen and wanting either a replacement card or a new account card. I was told again that I would need to fax in my ID. I told them I would be happy to provide the ID for someone at the store customer service to look at, but would not provide anyone with copies. At this point, it looks like I will not be getting either a replacement card or a new account with Target. Bummer. I liked the 5% discount and free online shipping. So ridiculous. My banks required less verification than Target did to get replacements.

Never got another online bill or statement in the mail. Life happened... Mom fell, broke her shoulder. Two days later she was found unresponsive and spent 4 days in ICU.. I tried to sign in knowing that my bill had to be soon but couldn't sign in! I was having so much trouble that I gave up being pressed for time and thinking I'll deal with it later.
When I thought of it again and had time to deal with it they claim that I did get the monthly statements and I was past due again. They said I should contact my online provider! WHATEVER! I got a Target Red Card end of last year. I tried to pay my bill over the phone through my bank. The Red Card folks claim that the payment was denied for insufficient funds. This happened twice and both times Target tagged on late fees and returned payment fees. I finally had to conference call my bank with the Red Card service. They verified that my account has plenty of funds to cover the Target bill, and that the account's been healthy for years. They also verified that they see no evidence that Target ever tried to get the bill paid. Red Card forgave about half of the fees, but still claims my bank told them I had insufficient funds, and my account is now disabled for phone payment. Every other company we do electronic transfer with has no issue. Target Red Card financing/billing department is either incredibly incompetent, or intentionally deceptive in an attempt to collect more fees.
The only reason I got the card is to get 5% off on purchases and there's a Target I frequent just blocks from my house. I get 2% back on my bank's Visa, but they don't bill me with false payment return fees. I spent about $400 on my Red Card, so my 5% savings equated to about $20 in savings. Then, they charged me over $90 in fees. I'd be better off paying cash. Tomorrow, I'll go pay the bill, cut up the card, close the account, and use Visa for now on. Don't know that I'll stop using Target (though I won't let my kids use their "permissive" restrooms), but the Red Card is no more. Wish I'd checked this site before getting it. I googled Red Card Scandal after my incident figuring this must be more widespread than just me. I was not surprised to see the string of horrible ratings. Looking forward to whatever class action lawsuit that I suspect will eventually come. This level of incompetence doesn't go unpunished.

I applied for a Target credit card during the holidays 2015. I had one previously but closed it years ago. At the time I applied, I was not approved immediately but after calling to see why I wasn't given immediate approval I was connected to a service representative that explained that I wasn't denied but they needed to further investigate. It took a few days and I forgot about it thinking I was denied. A week later I received my card in the mail with a limit of $300.00. That was December and just last month 4 months after opening the account they increased my limit to $600.00.
In addition to the credit account I also use their debit card as well. I save money regularly on purchases like clothes, housewares, food, toys and video games and other electronics using my cards and the Cartwheel app. I personally am so grateful they gave me a chance and would recommend to anyone. They have a website that allows me to make payments online without having to call in and speak to a machine. Works great for me and I'm happy I decided to open my account with Target.

It was so obvious that this is a normal occurrence for their customer service reps that they didn't even transfer me to their manager or other more appropriate department as I requested. I cannot believe this type of business practice is not only still happening, but that it's legal or at the very least goes unchecked. Where is the regulation? NEVER GET THEIR CREDIT CARD.

I have worked as a bookkeeper for over 30 years. I am scrupulously careful with my bills, always pay on time and have a perfect FICO credit score. I recently began shopping at Target. A checkout clerk persuaded me to open a Target credit card saying it would only take a few minutes, I could do it while checking out and I would save 5% on all purchases. So I did. She said the card would arrive in 7-10 days but it didn't. In fact, it never arrived. I called Target twice and also inquired at the store with the store manager. She was sure I should have received the card within 7-10 days and she kept telling me, "You should have received it by now" as though I had done something wrong.
Whoever I spoke with at the phone number on my Temporary Credit Card receipt (ph: 800-507-6438) said the card takes at least 3 weeks. I was assured the card would arrive soon but it didn't. When it still hadn't arrived on March 28, 2016, I called 800-507-6438 again. The man on the phone was surprised it had not been received by this time. These people don't seem to know what they're doing so I closed the account. Sometime later I received their billing statement in the mail and paid it the following day (along with some other bills), glad to be rid of the whole mess.
Today, I received a second statement from Target credit card for a late fee of $25 plus a finance charge of 1.98 for a total of $26.98! I called 800-507-6438 and then 800-424-6888 and was connected to woman named Sam in the Philippines. I asked to be transferred to the USA. Once my call was transferred, I explained the situation to a man named Lindsay and told him all the problems with the credit card in the beginning including all the phone calls I made and all people I have talked to including the store manager whom I saw in person and spoke to on the telephone at least twice.
I have no idea what the credit card number is because I never received the credit card. I cancelled the card because God only knows who they really sent it to. I paid their first statement on April 13th, the day after I received it. I paid other bills that day, too, including two major credit cards whose addresses are over 300 miles farther from me than Target's remittance address. Both of those 2 checks cleared on April 18th but Target's did not clear until the 27th! There is no reason for Target not to have processed my payment in a timely manner. I refuse to pay the late fee and finance charge. Lindsay said he will reverse the entire $26.98 and bring the account to a zero balance. Target has no business issuing credit cards. They are completely incompetent.

Signed up for Target Red Card. 1st Payment - paid within the required time frame, and the payment online went through. A few weeks later I see that my excellent credit score drops down. Upon investigating, I see that Target Red Card reported me as paying late. I call customer service: they explain that my payment was not released by my bank (which they have never notified me about), and as a result they reported me. I pay the balance immediately (now that I know that there was an issue).
Upon completion, I ask their customer service to please correct my credit score, as there was no way for me to know that the payment did not go through. It said online that the payment did go through, and I have never received any notification to the contrary. Upon hours and hours of conversation with customer service and not getting anywhere, I ask to get transferred to a manager: that never happens. A guy at the collection department (which I also spoke with) refuses to transfer me.
Once I am ready to close the card, the lady finally says she is willing to look into it. 2 weeks later, I receive a notice that their actions about reporting me were correct. Hence, my credit report goes down and stays down, when I didn't know about the problem in the first place. I am so disappointed that not only I don't want to use that credit card anymore, I will prefer to do my shopping somewhere else.

I wish you could put no stars or negative stars. I HAD a Target red card for about a year. Made every payment and even paid my account off in full. When I called wondering about a credit line increase, I got told that I would get a letter within 75 days regarding my increase EITHER way. I called 30 months later to follow up and was told that WAS NOT the case. Then told there was no one in that department that I could talk to. So I asked for an account services person to talk to about being frustrated to the point of wanting to cancel my account. They then transfer me to a second person who does not understand or speak English because I clearly said at this point with the stress and aggravation, and thought of it just being a scam I was on the verge of cancelling my account.
What does the guy on the other end do? Pushes a button without letting me know and says "Ok your account has been cancelled and cannot be reopened." Not once did I say just cancel the account. Then says “Have a good day” and hangs up. I IMMEDIATELY call back and finally get someone named Bob who speaks English and tells me "Yup it's cancelled and cannot be reopened and don't apply for another card for 6-12 months." So just be warned that if you think about cancelling a card they will just hit a button instead of trying to help you solve the issue then you cannot open another one. At this point, I will not be shopping at Target ever again, not applying for a new card. Good job to your A-plus customer service.

Who doesn't love Target!? I know I do. But the TARGET RED CARD is a complete scam. Please for your own sanity... do NOT get this card. I made a $106 purchase at Target a couple months ago after signing up for a Target Red Card. I signed up after being asked and told I would save money. I wanted to go directly to the service desk to pay off my balance and was told this was not possible. I was told that only after receiving my card could I make any payment. I then waited and never received my card. I was then charged late fees and still no card. I went to Target asking to pay off my balance and was told I needed the card. I told them I did not get the card. Then I proceeded to call numbers at Target in an attempt to settle my balance or to request the late fees be taken off, as I still had never received my card. There was an automated voice requesting a card number I did not have. I tried multiple times.
Finally I was contacted owing over $300 in late fees. Now they will accept payment. Of course they will. I thought I was saving 5% and now I'm paying quadruple what I expected to pay. I am outraged and I believe this is a scam to collect late fees from people that never get a Target Card at all. I saw multiple complaints of the same nature online and feel completely taken advantage of. I don't believe $300 and up is reasonable for late fees at all especially when told there was only one way to pay it! I'm scared even if I pay it off they will still continue to charge me without my knowing. After reading other's reviews, I believe there could be a lawsuit against the Target Red Card company for fraudulent company policies. I think there should also be a cut off to how much they can charge you in late fees. God help me get this taken care of!

Well first, I never got my card! Didn't arrive. Am I special? No, apparently this is commonplace according to this website. Then, I made my purchases. I made more, and I made more.
One day I said, "that was fun, let me pay this all off, and cancel this card." All said and done, the money left my account, and boom, all is said and done! Never thought about it again! Until my credit report dropped 100 Points! Unbelievable. I called them up. Apparently the card miraculously came back to life and started accumulating late fees! Wow! SpaceX needs to call up Target. Apparently they have artificial intelligence!
I called them and asked what happened They said that I hadn't made a payment, and as a result, silent late charges had been accumulating. I'm in the process of getting them removed. But who knows how long this is going to take! I now do not shop at Target, how very misleading! I love luxurious products but thankfully an Ikea opened up in my area so I go there now. Woot Woot! I made my payment arrangement early, on the 1st of April 2016, scheduled for the 2nd of April 2016. And thought "Hey, I got my bill paid off early!" WRONG. Even though we had a sufficient balance to pay the bill up until the 11th of April 2016, on the 12th I got a call claiming the payment never went through. And now they want a $25 late fee on top of the $25 I was scheduled to pay. Which is ridiculous for the following reasons. One: We've used this bank account before to pay the bill, without any problems whatsoever. Two: We had around $1600 in the account at the time, far more than enough to cover the $25 charge, which they claimed was returned for insufficient funds. Three: When confronted on it, they give the same usual flaky response: "Well, it couldn't be our system, it has to be your bank.".
Seriously, I've seen this tactic used by Chase Bank in the past, where they'd sit on your direct deposit paycheck overnight, and state that you have money in your account, but when you try making a purchase, the deposit suddenly didn't exist, and they saddled you with bounced check fees. And speaking of bounced check/NSF fees, we never saw one. I have the confirmation email I received from them. Now, pretty much all banks, when you run a payment through and there's no funds, don't they charge you a bounced check fee? Hmmm? So Target is also LYING about processing the payment.

Target RedCard is simply horrible. I have endured 6 months of torture. Initially, I had great difficulty paying my account online because the website is not intuitive and very difficult to use. I was charged a lot - maybe $150 in late fees in total which is simply ridiculous. I have never, in all of my 20 years using credit cards had this kind of difficulty. When I moved residence, I did not have problems with any of my paper bills except for Target REDcard. I explained how they got these bills to me late even though I transferred my mail on time with the USPS. Why did all of my other 10 bills transfer correctly and not the Target REDcard?? Why do I never have difficulty with my other accounts and using their website without problems, except for Target REDcard.
So then, I decided to set up the REDcard online with my bank. The bill they send me is "Target REDcard Services" so I believe I set up this account with my bank and with the address that they sent me on the paper bill. I have set up all of my other 10 accounts perfectly but for some reason, this one sent my payments to the wrong address. Now if they send me a bill which says "Target REDcard Services" then is it so illogical for me to type that as the name of the place I need to send my bill to and then enter the address that is on the bill?? I explained this to the customer representative but they will NOT, never, take the late fee off.
With all the issues I have had, which honestly, are not all my fault (website dysfunctionality, late transfer of bills to my new address, and confusing paper bills which say "Target REDcard Services", yet this is not the name that you set up your online bank account with). You would think they would understand and at least take off 1 late payment - which is all I asked for. But they refuse.
Their customer service is despicable. I have never encountered this dealing with companies for 20 years. Is it that important for you to pocket another $25 late fee to add to your coffers. You make your payment systems confusing! Admit that and make changes. Stop having your customer reps refuse to admit the mistakes on part of the company. When you make things complicated and confusing, own it, and let the late fees go when reasons merit it. Stop stealing customers' money. And show the late fees on your horrible email reminders for monthly payment so a customer at least has some idea that their account is in arrears. Simple things that most companies do. Why are there so many complaints on this website? It's obvious - Target REDcard practices unethically and should be reprimanded and cleaned up.

Nonetheless my March payment was missed and I was charged a $25 returned payment fee. When I called into customer service explaining the situation she informed me the fee was non-negotiable and could not be waived. I repeat, I have never missed a payment and my account has been set up on auto pay for the past 8 month.
I would expect due to my account history and this particular situation the fee would be waived. Three months later a bill finally arrives to me with late charges - they had charged late charges on top of late charges. Apparently my original payment didn't go through until after another late charge had posted. Basically I had this card 90 days and even after correcting my address and still not getting a bill I paid over $150 in late charges. My wife and I truly like target but this is despicable and Target now rises above Time Warner with the worst customer service out there.

I called Target card services because they cashed a check I sent them for payment but never applied it to my account and subsequently charged me a late fee. Instead of getting a courteous and apologetic representative, I got accusations and the third degree as well as vague references to how it will be handled going forward. I have a feeling that I won't get my money without initiating another call to them.

Over a year ago Target did not send a bills for months then I got a bill with an overextended late fee. I was able to get that resolved after some time but started checking online each month because I did not want a repeat. Recently my card expired and I did not receive a new one. When I went to the website there was a place to click and activate my new card so I could only guess it was sent but I never received. Clicked on the link to receive new card but it said to call customer service. I called that number and every other but there was no way to get any help as there were no human connections, only and endless loop of press this and press that. Went back to the website and sent an email to Target to cancel my card. Who needs that kind of poor service? I'm sure they won't do that right either.

So she gave me a discount, it became like 140 dollars if I use the card. I finally get a invoice from Target Red Card and it was 3 months late and charging me 243 dollars over a hundred dollars more than the original purchase for late fees. I never received any invoices until 3 months later. I immediately call Target and paid off the 243 dollars and closed the account. I went to apply for a credit card about 6 months later. There was this stupid Target card on my credit score. So I called target and talked to a representative and he assured me this will be removed. Since I did not receive an invoice until 3 months later, I got a letter from Target and they say that what they reported was correct and they will not dispute.
So I spent 3 hours tonight on hold and hang ups and trying to talk to someone to make it matter of them not doing their job and blaming me for their mistakes for not billing. Finally I talk to 6 representatives and finally sent me to a person from India, Migal (**). He says there was 3 invoices sent out but he could not produce them to prove this. I told him if he could please get help get this off my credit reference because it was 3 months late and I paid it off when I got my first bill. I have a Target auto-ship set up quarterly to deliver necessary personal care products to my elderly mother who no longer drives. I have it charged to my Target account. I received a new RedCard in the mail, activated it according to instructions, and destroyed my old card. I don't use my Target card all that often, so it never occurred to me that the account number on the new RedCard was completely different than my old account number. I only found out because my mother didn't get her auto-ship. When I went online to find out why, it turns out the shipment was cancelled because it was "charged to a non-existent account number." So I tried to switch over the auto-ship to the new RedCard. No can do.
I called and spoke to customer service. The man I talked to also couldn't do it and told me I had to start from scratch and set up an entirely new auto-ship request. So I went online and tried to do that. I couldn't because the old one still exists. Catch 22. I can't set up an auto-ship because I have one, but they won't ship it. I called customer service again and when I got no help from the associate I asked to be transferred to a supervisor. He resisted. I insisted. He hung up on me! Target's losing a huge sale each quarter because of their own incompetence.

I have been trying to use my Target Red Card for the past month and it has not been working. I have called the number on my card several times and always get directed to Certegy. I call Certegy and have to be on hold for over 1 hour every time, when I finally get a representative they inform me that there are no issues with my account, by this time it's been like 2 hours on the phone. By this time I'm really frustrated, I called Target back and speak with a representative who has taken the time to try to assist me but he cannot figure out what the problem is after placing me on hold several times and by this time on the phone for another 2 hours.
After all this they want to put a request for an investigation but I was so upset and irritated for all the time I was on the phone that I ended up just cancelling my Target Red Card, it's not worth the 5% discount. The rep then told me that I would not be able to get another Red Card which is fine with me. I really liked using my Target Red Card and never had any problems until this past month but honestly it's not worth all the stress of long hours of being on the phone with different people and different departments.

I was charged over and over again by Target and my bank for lack of funds in my checking account. I talked to Target today, 1/20/2015, in several departments to find out when I would be charged again, so I could make sure I had money in my account. First, I talked to one woman who I couldn't understand a word she said - heavy accent. She transferred me to a supervisor who also had a heavy accent, and I could not understand her. So, I was transferred to a third person who could speak English, but she couldn't help me.
Now, 45 minutes later, I am talking to a Supervisor's Supervisor. She also couldn't tell me when I would be charged. I explained to her that I talked to someone at Target on 1/15/2015. We had agreed that Target would deduct whatever charges I owed them. Here it is 1/20, and no charges. This Supervisor's Supervisor not only couldn't tell me when I would be charged, but thought I hadn't made any arrangements to pay Target what I owed them. Target's people are useless and so is their online Red Card summary.
I finally was charged today, 1/21/2015, 5 days later. Since I live paycheck to paycheck, when I agree to have something deducted from my checking account, it needs to be deducted that day while I still have money in it, not 5-7 days later, when I no longer have money in my account. Target has charged me overdraft fees and my bank has also charged me overdraft fees. I will cancel my Red Card, since it is not worth it to go through this for a small overdraft. I will absolutely NOT shop at Target again.

I opened a REDCARD in 2014 for the 5% discount. I would pay the balance right away to avoid interest. in Nov. 2014 they returned a payment saying no bank account found. I used same back account as always. I called to get a refund for the $25 returned payment because I told them it had to be an error on their part. That time it was resolved quickly once the representative looked at the history of the account. Forward to Nov 2015 - returned payment, no bank account found. Called and explained strangely the same thing happened the year before same month.
Asked for my $25 returned payment fee back. This time they said I needed a letter from my bank stating I had the bank account. Are you kidding? I told them to look at the transactions from the last year - same account. Here we are January 2016 - 10 phone calls, multiple faxes of my bank letter (said they haven't received) and no refund. From reading other complaints I'm thinking Target is making big money on bogus late/returned payment fees. Someone needs to investigate.

I opened a red card in November (ish) to get the % off a large purchase. I tried to pay the balance in full approx. a month later, and the payment was kicked back (the payment was literally returned back to me). I got no notification from them, the only reason I knew it happened was because I called them to see why the money wasn't taken from my checking account. Meaning, why hadn't the payment gone thru. Only because I called, I found out that the payment was returned to me. No explanation, just returned to me. So, as I was on the phone with the guy, I deleted my bank info, and re-entered it. He even stated "Yep, I see it went thru". Leaving me to believe that all was good! I then get a letter in the mail approx. two weeks later that told me my card was closed because of too many returned payments!! What?!
When I called them, she told me that the second payment had not gone thru and because of non-payment, my card was cancelled. I have a credit score higher than 90% of America and they are canceling my card? My question became this: WHY in this day in age, can they not EMAIL me to let me know there is a problem? Her (I was dealing with a supervisor at this point mind you) response was this is how it is set up. To mail letters vs. email or text. But wait, they have emailed me before, and they have texted me (literally just this am telling me I had a balance due), but they cannot do that to inform me that there is an issue with my payment? The one I have tried to make twice now? Do they really think that someone who has attempted to pay in full 2 times is someone who doesn't want to pay the bill?
She even asked me if I wanted the address to corporate to file a complaint. I said, "Do you have an email address, so I know they will get the complaint, instead of a mail address?" No, they don't. I am at a loss. Stay away from this card! It is not worth the money you "save"! I wish I had read these reviews before I did. Now my credit score has dropped DRASTICALLY. Who knows, I may have brushed the reviews off and taken the chance, but at least then I would have only myself to blame. I told her that one day, someone is going to start a lawsuit against them. I cannot believe it hasn't happened yet, or that they are not watched more closely by the powers that be. I finally made the payment over the phone. Let's see if that one gets "returned" also!

They said to give it another couple days. When I later called back I found that I must have entered the routing and account number wrong so they charged me $25. I told them, "Fine, I will pay the $25 and please close this account."
I now canceled my Target account and Target is $25 richer. However, they lost a long-standing and good quality customer. The thing that hurts me the most is the way the customer service representatives handled my call. They seriously could care less about losing a credit card customer. I applied for the Target Red Card and the amount of time it takes to physically receive the card takes over two weeks; you are unable to apply any purchases to your account until then. You are given a temporary "card", which is nothing more than a small piece of paper that allowing you to make purchases in the interim. When I asked the cashier to look up my account and presented her with my state issued ID, she advised she was unable to do so. The only way to apply purchases to my account was if I gave her the temporary "card".
I don't understand how handing someone a small piece of paper is more secure than looking up an account number once valid forms of ID are verified when trying to make purchases on your account. I called the Account Services and corrected my address - all should have been well. Come end of August I had still not received a card, statement, or anything regarding my card. I called Account Services again, I had a late fee- which was frustrating since I still had no card information and no card after 2 months. They informed me that I was able to go in the store to pay my monthly bill and check my balance - which is untrue, unless you HAVE a card. I confirmed my address with them AGAIN and they "re-sent" my card.
Well here it is November, and I still did not receive a card, and only received a statement in the month of September, and have become incredibly irritated. Each call that I made was very frustrating and the Account Services representatives were less than helpful until my last call when I cancelled my card. Only then, were they willing to help me figure out the problem and "guarantee" that "3rd time is a charm" when shipping the credit card. I declined the effort when learning that the previous Account Rep I spoke with in August, forgot to resend the card. This has been a very painful process. After 6 days and 3 failed attempts they weren't even on the same page of which letter is needed. They will promise and lie to you just to get you off the line. Because, you will never speak to the same person again. So they have no fear of lying to your face over and over and over and over and over. I have had to schedule my closing twice now.
The kicker is that I am attempting to deal with the bank that is affiliated with Target. I have now closed the account because this was one of the reasons they are saying it was rejected by the mysterious FAX conduit. It seems I have found a new past time. Seriously, Target? I want to shop at your stores and I like the idea of the Red Card but I am canceling my card and will not be shopping at Target any longer. The reason is this, I shopped this past week and had about $245 worth of merchandise in my cart with more ideas about future holiday purchases. When I tried to use my Red Card, it was declined. I thought that my card, with an initial credit limit of $1100 (later raised to $2000), should not be declined. I had spent valuable time shopping and did not want to discard the items in the cart. The service provided at the store itself was just fine with the assurance that if I could sort this out with the card company, I could bring my receipt in and transfer the charges to my Target card (then receiving 5% off). Nevertheless, embarrassing, time-consuming, and dumb.
I paid with another credit card and when at home, I called the company (T.D. Bank). I was told that my credit limit had dropped to $200 because of inactivity on the card. Seriously, Target? This isn't the practice with any of my other credit cards. I was told that if I supplied updated income information, my credit limit would be reviewed. A process that would take up to 75 days. I have a credit score of 792 and always pay my bills in full on time. And this kind of information is easy to access. Seriously, Target? So I might find out well after the holiday season? I am taking the time to write this review because I believe that unless Target makes a concerted effort to improve, change, and alter their current practices around the Red Card, the company will be in even more trouble than it is currently.
This is terrible customer service and a huge disincentive to shop at the stores. It betrays the trust that customers like me want to have in the Target brand. The competitive landscape is changing and customers can buy nearly everything Target offers from other vendors. The difference is in the details, friendliness, cleanliness, community engagement, and stellar customer service. When something like this happens and a loyal customer is called out during a payment transaction in such a way, customer loyalty erodes very quickly. How can Target get so many things right and still work through a service like T.D. Bank to offer a terrible credit card?
I've since become aware of many other valid complaints about the card and am shocked by the lack of response offered to Target customers. Seriously, Target? How many tweets and facebook complaints does it take to get this fixed? I hope that the company will give serious consideration to important component of their business practice as it deeply tarnishes the Target brand. In the meantime, I will shop elsewhere.

I applied Target Credit Card Nov 2014. I always pay all my bills and purchase on time. For one of my purchase the due was Feb 1st and I paid on Feb 3rd 2015. The customer service representative informed that they will waive of late charges and she said I paid in full, no due. After three months I logged into my credit report and I had a default payment for $7 from Target and my credit had slashed from 760 to 640 as Target had reported that it was 60 days past due. It took months/years to build my credit. I Stopped all my purchase with Target and closed my Target credit card.

The Target card, which has no affiliation with Target, in reality, charged a late fee. I talked to a representative and she waived the recent late fee in exchange for paying off the whole balance and the first late fee. I have a name, a date, and a transaction number. They can verify that they received the full payment with late fees. Despite that, they added an additional late fee and interest on that late fee. I spent 4 hours talking to different people there and they just put you on hold. They would not close my account when I asked them to and made me wait about 15 minutes to give me an address to write a billing complaint. They can't give me a name or even a department, just a P.O. Box number. I'm very suspicious about thugs like that. I can see that this is going to mess with my credit rating.

I have had an account (store credit card) with Target since 2008 because I have always enjoyed my shopping experience in my local store. Last month when I logged in to make my monthly payment, I received an error message that stated that the website was down. I thought nothing of it so I tried again later, same message "Oops, there's been an error.... Website down for maintenance." Online bill payment is the most convenient way for me to pay because I'm often traveling and do not have time to call and punch in a bunch of info while I am driving. Needless to say I tried several more times over a period of a month and still was not able to log in to make my payment.
When I finally called to let them know of the website issues and to make a payment, I realized that not only had they charged me a late fee, but they would not remove the fee even though they knew of their site issues. I consider this a fraud and I am completely appalled by the fact that the issue was on their end but they refused to remove the late fee. I truly hope that $35 fee that you charged me was worth losing a longtime customer.

Oct 9, 2015 I paid my bill was $401.89. I paid $402.00. I was told I had to wait 24 hrs for it to post, AFTER I had already shipped and tried to pay. So I put the charges on my bank card til the next day when the help desk said they would switch the charges back to my Target card once it was credited with my payment. OK so I went back to the help desk. We returned everything, re-rang everything, charged it to my Target card... no go. Call the 800 number on the back of card at help desk. I'm now told it's a 48 hrs time frame for payments to post.
Now we put everything back on my bank card. I went to Target today, went to use my red card again, and again same trouble. So at the cashier I called the help number again and said my payment still hasn't been posted to my card... He said I had to wait 24 hours. I said I paid it in full Oct 9, it's been more than 24 hrs since I paid it in full... with a credit on the total! He said "Yes but because you overpaid the amount due you now have to wait two weeks..."
I can't stomach incompetent workers anymore. Can anyone give me a valid reason why if I pay .21 c more on the bill I have to wait for two weeks when Target was given payment from my bank already? 2 weeks ago on the 9th. Why is my payment in limbo? Had I known this I would've budgeted differently and maybe only paid the minimum and kept the hard cash for my son's wedding...

I am a Target shopper and between two different locations in Chicago and Frisco, have shopped there weekly. Got the last 15 years, spending on average 200+ per week. I remained loyal with all of the security breaches. I recently applied for a REDcard debit card. I was declined at the store when trying to make a 98 dollar purchase and after waiting in line at the store customer service for a few minutes, aborting and talking to 3 different agents on the phone, I learned that I need to build transaction history in order to do my weekly grocery shopping. One person told me 50, another 75, but none could tell me how long it would take for this history to build. Really, Target? Do the math. I spend on average 8k a year for the last 15 years and have plenty of money in my account and an 800 credit score. Pretty insulting and infuriating how well you don't know your loyal customers.

I was told by the customer service agent that the funds will be sent back overnight but will not get to me until 9/28 or 9/29/15. I called back on 9/30/15 and I was told the check is being sent by regular mail and I should get it within five days. I have now three fees on my bank account for $105.00. I called again on 10/6/15. After being transferred to 5 different people we were disconnected. I gave all five customer service people my phone number and email.
They have not attempted to call me back or email me. While being on hold and transferred around it was a total of an hour, I still have no answer or help with my problem. I expected more from Target that's why I have only been shopping with them for the last three years. However I'm not happy with how I'm being helped when there is a problem. I shopped at Target in May 2015. The nice lady at the counter asked me to sign up for a Target card and save 10%. The bill was $74. I was in a hurry but did it to help the lady as she told me that they were cutting hours and this helped. I thought I was signing up for a debit card. I signed up, paid and left. A few months later my wife asked about me getting a Target credit card. It took us some time to figure out what had happened. She has, well had, she cut it up, a Target debit card and I thought that is what I was getting also.
By then it was also a month late. She called figuring she would explain the situation and "knowing Target" they would credit the late fee and we would pay the bill. Ha. Target ain't exactly WalMart. They refused to credit anything and demanded the late fee. She requested a supervisor. There is none. They take your name and tell you a supervisor will call you back within 48 hrs. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't hear it myself today. A month goes by, we forget, we get another bill. Now we owe the $74 and $70 (2 X $35) in late fees and other charges. My wife calls again. Tells them "look, I'll just pay the one late fee, you never called, I'm busy I forgot" - you know, normal talk to supposedly normal people. Nope, not Target. They demand all the late fee. She asks for a supervisor, guess what. Wait up to 48hrs.
Another month passes, no call. We see the bill again today and she calls. We now owe over $100 in late fees for a $74 purchase. The customer service person tells us that they had my phone number as wrong (even though my wife was the one calling them) and that once they tried that with no answer, they wouldn't have called the secondary number which was my wife's which is why we were not getting called.
Ok, that is fixed today - 09/15/2015 - the supervisor (Ashley **) calls tonight. She is like that lady on the Comcast recording that went viral. Any debate ends with, "Well thanks for taking my call, you owe us the full late payment, if you don't pay minimum payments on the late fee (we already paid the $74 + one late fee earlier today) it will grow. We do not credit late fees." Period. Also, she said the notes said they called and spoke with cardholder in August. I asked who (knowing the rep had clearly told me the wrong number was in there just hours earlier). She said she didn't know, didn't know what was said, but did know if I didn't pay the late fee. Well, it will continue to grow. Per Ashley, there is no other resolution, no other manager, no other customer relations NOTHING. She is judge, jury and executioner and either I pay Target the money or it grows period.
Well, I will match Target's resolute stand. I after angrily looking online and realizing there really is no other resolution with Target based on all the comments, I'll pay the extortion money to them - $100 worth of late fees for a $74 purchase. But, resolutely, as a 43 yr old man, who makes mid six figures, I will NEVER visit a Target again as long as I live. I will go out of my way to knock them in conversations, emails and experiences in general discussion and just like Ashley, I will resolutely drive past them to Wal Mart, Kohls, WalGreens, CVS. Anyone I can find to avoid setting foot in another one of their stores. I honestly had no idea this could happen in 2015 America in a big box store like Target. Never again - and I'm just as serious as they are on their extortion fee.
I should say what has upset me the most perhaps is feeling small. I don't shop at Target to feel small or essentially be called a liar. If I say I have never been contacted, I've never been contacted, nor my wife, by them. We call them when we get these ridiculous escalating bills, to have Ashley shake that off today was very upsetting to me. Even after I told her the number was in there wrong today per Target employee, she didn't apologize - just back to script of making the minimum payment on a frickin late fee.
Another point for your consideration Target shoppers in closing. The gentleman I spoke with earlier told me to just make the payment and "maybe it will be credited later". It just sounded weird. Looking back on it, I detect when you file with the BBB which I am about to do so in a few minutes after this, perhaps then they contact you at some level and someone normal speaks to you like a human and you come to an agreement. Maybe, maybe not, but why push a consumer to that point till you can have a reasonable discussion? And once I file, if then I get another Ashley, why push someone like me, a future customer for maybe another 30 yrs if I'm alive that long to this point where my wife and I already yelled at each other over this and I'm livid. WHY? Who does that? I hate being extorted.

I've had a target card for about 7 months and was very happy while I lived less than a mile from Target and shopped there all the time. People in store are always nice and helpful and its cleaner and same price as Walmart so why not? Anyway, I use it here and there, always pay it off just by memory (not using statements) and then I move cross country after getting married and guess what? I forget to pay a small bill (maybe $50?) on time. Boom! Expected late fee. However, I don't have paper statements on and I look up my email statement and discover the statement stating when my payment was due was sent TWO DAYS after it was due. So I decide to call and complain that there was no way I could pay on time.
An Indian person answers, barely understands, won't listen, talks over me, keeps asking me if I want to make a payment, and very, VERY rude. I finally ask to speak to a supervisor and she says that's not necessary. I ask at least eight times and finally say "are you refusing to transfer me to a supervisor?" to which she doesn't answer but then offers to take the charges off my account. I am very angry that she only offers to avoid getting complained about but I say okay. After she does that she then keeps on asking me to make a payment and I tell her once I see the charges removed I will pay my balance and that I still want to speak to her supervisor. This call was at least 20 minutes. I finally get transferred to someone who actually understands English and file a complaint. This lady is very apologetic and makes a report to which I'm supposed to later get a call to follow up. Never happens.
Now I look up this month and the bill is so confusing I don't understand why it says my previous balance was a higher amount that the amount I had paid but that I still owed nothing. I call again and try to get it sorted out but I am met with nonstop "hold on one second", "let me check that for you" etc. only to be have her keep misunderstanding what I'm asking and doing the same stuff the last lady did. I ask to speak to a supervisor and she flat out says no. Then says I have to call another number and gives me the number for Westar Kitchen and Bath! Another business! I call back and talk to another guy who is also no help with my straightforward questions about my account and starts talking about charges that don't exist on my account trying to explain away this other amount listed.
I finally file a complaint with someone else but she ends up just telling me that she can't look up the last complaint I filed because it's "confidential" (my own complaint huh?) and I tell her with this service I will be canceling my card but she still says nothing helpful and refuses to give me a number to follow up with about the bad customer service reps. LONG STORY SHORT! I hate this card, there is NO help when you call, and the bills and statements are horribly laid out and confusing. I'm one of many, so PLEASE DON'T GET THIS CARD. Still like Target however which is a real shame. Oh well. I hope others have better experiences.

In that time, they gave me a credit limit increase which I did not ask for. I kept making the payments in the store because Target had locked my online account. I was late twice this year, mostly because I am going through a divorce and did forget (by a day or so) to make the payment. Target started charging me late fee upon late fee, which brought up my minimum payment. I Was not aware of this and kept making the regular payment in the store, and was able to use the credit card.
When I called to dispute the fees they were charging, they were extremely rude. It is nearly impossible to get in touch with anybody in the credit dept. They never answer the phone and when the automated service answers, it automatically hangs up when you ask to speak to a representative. I was finally able to get them to do another payment plan in Aug. and have begun paying on it. However, when I have called to get an updated statement, I have received the same treatment, that is, I was not able to talk to anybody. It doesn't matter what time or day one calls, they just never answer. The only dept. that answers is the one you call if you want one of their credit cards. I called in and requested all the information I could and had them send me a copy of the check used to open the account. I was surprised that check was even accepted by target since the check was clearly a fake printed check. I had to go to Wells Fargo and get a letter saying that was not my account and to verify that in fact it was a fake check. I also went to chase to make sure the account used wasn't actually linked to me or any other customer. I had to get an affidavit signed and a police report to make sure I covered my self since this person had all my CA ID information down to the ID #.
Target said they would flag my information to prevent this from happening in the future since at the end of the day they lost over $2000 in merchandise because their approval process obviously is lacking in proper confirmation. On 8-11-2015 Target once again allowed someone to open another account under the same CA ID information. I called card services because I actually received the card this time and I am asking all the questions I asked before but now they won't provide me with information. I am being told that because the SS# and Phone # on file doesn't match mine, duh, they can't send me the copy of the check provided to open the account but this person can use my ID info and CA ID# to open an account under my name?
I call and speak to 10 different people that all supposedly work in the fraud dept, yet can't pull up the last account I had to clear/close back in Feb and there is never a supervisor available to speak to me. July 18th I call again and someone says 'we mailed out the cards on the 15th you should receive them by the 25th'. August 5th and no cards yet - I call again! I verified my current address, social, DOB, card number, 3 digits on back of card, all the dates that I've called and what I called for, my log in ID (the works)... I worked in a call center I know what is needed to verify an account. I spoke to Sherry a 'supervisor' who tells me that she also needs my driver's license number because the old address apartment number was not the same one I was giving her.
Obviously I was highly upset because I verified everything and then some and I still had to give my license number? This 'supervisor' was rude and condescending and when I asked to speak to her boss she said she was the boss and that there was no one higher than her available. To top it all off she flagged my account for fraud! I spoke to Lucas in the fraud department and his attitude was worse than Sherry's... I could not believe my ears. He said that my account has been flagged for fraud and that I have to fax my ID, social, and a utility bill, but when I asked him why my account was flagged he said he did not know!! Then he goes to tell me that he is a supervisor in the fraud department. The worse part is......when I checked my husband's credit report he already has a Target account even though we've never received the card.
I am closing the Target card and I want nothing to do with Target, ever again. I will definitely warn anyone that tells me they want to open a RED card to STAY AWAY and inform them that they will be treated like criminals instead of customers when they call. My wife was lured in by the red card after moving to a city near a target store. She purchased approx. $80 in merchandise and failed to pay by the due date. Taking the next statement she went to a local target store and paid off the balance, or so she thought. She made a payment on 8 Feb 2015 when the closing period on the statement was 7 Feb 2015. She assumed it was taking care of, and didn't pay anymore attention to it. She then experienced some depression and other medical issues, all the while her personal mail had piled up.
After a few months went by, I started helping her to sort through the mail and tidy up her affairs and saw that she was now charged a late fee for a late fee with interest. So, as of now we paid $223 in fees, plus the original late fee of $25 and of course the $80 for the merchandise. I tried to call and rectify the situation with customer service but was treated poorly and basically was told I was stupid, using different terminology. The lady on the phone refused to let me speak to her supervisor and said it seemed perfectly normal to pay a late fee for a late fee, for a late fee. This seems more like a loan shark organization than anything else. We ended up paying $248 in fees alone over a six month period. Target has lost all of our business and I will be asking my extended family to boycott target as well. Utilize the red card at your own peril.

Saving 5 percent isn't even worth it. Their customer service completely sucks. The card originally got sent to the wrong address so I call to update the address with no issue, or so I thought. Only to receive a voicemail a couple days later telling me I have to verify the address. I call the number they provided in the voicemail only for the computer operated voice asking me for my entire card number in order to process my call. HELLO! How would I have that if I never received a card in the first place!
So I google to find the correct number to call. I get someone on the phone and of course the customer service rep was very short with me and when I said hold on I have to get my driver's license he rudely says, "helloooo" which at that point my blood was boiling. Seriously I shouldn't have to go through such hell to update my address. Then they want everything down to the last 4 digits of your driver's license to verify. Don't bother getting this card. As soon as it's paid off I am closing the account and shredding the card.

I applied for a Target credit card at the customer service desk. The person that helped me said there was 0% interest rate on the card for 12 months, she thought, or 18 months. She wasn't certain. So obviously they had been running a special. I got my Redcard in the mail one week later at 22.90% interest. The thing that astounded me was that the card came in the mail with no number to call to actually activate the card. I called and spoke to several people about the interest rate that was way too high. I believe it is the highest rate.
I was told that I wouldn't be charged a percentage if I paid the card within 30 days. After reading their paperwork it states 25 days. I asked what financial institution they were with that took care of the card and I got three different bank names. Then someone actually spelled that it is T.D. Bank. I have never heard of them but I am going to try to contact Target further on this matter. I can't believe they sent it in the mail to my unlocked mailbox with no activation number and I even asked if the card could be taken directly to the store and they told me yes.
I asked why they weren't protecting the consumer better and I was told that any charges I wouldn't have to pay if I did not use the card. However, they didn't say anything when I asked what they would do when I got a bad credit report for not paying the bill I didn't owe. No one could answer my question on that. Signed upset and now untrusting Target customer.

The 5% off got me but you'll pay much for this card in the long run. I had a $35 charge that I forgot and emails from Target were not going to my Inbox so I was a few months late to pay and the total for that $35.00 charge was $92. So any savings accumulated with the 5% off was wiped out. This card is just a rip off and the Target Customer Service (really some bank) can care less about you as a consumer. Well really they are just drones that have to toe the corporate line and say the right things like "Oh I'm so sorry that I can't help." I was going to write to Target but I already know they don't care so am writing to this forum to help others stay away from the Red Card.

I was told this was interest on the account balance I had paid off the month before. I contacted Target immediately after realizing that I lost my credit card. Literally the same day I lost my card, I called. When the woman answered my phone call she asked for my phone number and other information very rudely. After locating my information, she asked why I was calling and when I explained I had lost my card she had me repeat my address literally 4 times. Normally this wouldn't bother me. I work retail and sometimes it's hard to hear people. I get it but I was in a quiet room with no noise. She then told me my card would be at my home within 7-10 days.
About 3 weeks past and I still hadn't received my card so I called again to inquire about the card. The gentlemen I spoke to was very polite but did inform me that no card was reissued to me. So I waited 3 weeks to receive a card that was never sent? I'm highly disappointed and beyond irritated. I understand it's my fault I lost my card but I didn't think it would be an issue to reissue one. I guess I was wrong.

Just should have read this site first before taking advantage of a 5% discount at Target. I opened a credit card without realizing it. I thought I had set up a red card where my purchases would come out of my checking account, however I in fact signed up for a credit card. After a couple of months of not seeing any paperwork, statements, or deductions, when I called customer service I was told I had signed up for online statements and a credit card. I asked the rep to immediately close my card and asked for the payoff amount. I paid exactly what I was told and figured I was done. A few more months go by and I receive a notice in the mail of additional fees and late charges. They refuse to refund any fees. Of course "they state" they have no notes of the rep giving me a payoff. Oh how I wish that phone call was recorded and could be pulled.
Hate having to eat $90.00 and worry about my credit score showing recent late pays. What a hassle and inconvenience to deal with corporate bullies. Customer service is a thing of the past. I guess phone reps have no authority to make a difference other than quote corporate policy. I feel like an idiot for taking someone at their word.

That sounded a bit odd to me seeing as how it was the end of June. I waited a few days and never received the statement. That prompted me to make an online account. Once I did that I saw not only was my payment past due but I was charged a late fee and now I can't close on my home. At this point, I hate target, I will never shop there again. My wife and I have been asked just about every visit to Target if we wanted to apply for the REDcard. We try to be responsible so we politely respond, "no thanks." One day we had commented to them, humorously that we have too many credit cards already, but thanks. They stated that we could link it to our bank account and get the 5% savings when we use it. My wife thought it was a good idea. Face it who wouldn't want to save money, right? So based on this and not having another credit card, we decided ok, we shop here all of the time, why not.
My wife went in to set it up, talking with the customer service representative. When she started she asked: "is this for a credit card?" My wife says "no, it's for debit. Here's our blank check." The representative was typing in the information and then asked what our annual income was??? My wife again stated this was for the debit card, right, to which the rep replied yes, my wife said coz that's an odd question to be asking to pull money from our bank account. So more data input and she states that we qualify for X amount??? Again my wife asked, "are you certain this is for the debit card? There shouldn't be any qualifications from our own account." The rep said "yes I put it in as debit." At the end of the application process the rep said, "ohh, it did go in as a credit card."
My wife was pretty upset, as you could understand and said, "well please delete it. I didn't want it." The rep said "I can't, it went through." So my wife asked for the manager, who also said the same thing. We can cancel it now, you will need to. No one seemed to care that my wife asked multiple times if the rep was putting it in correctly or the fact that we were going to be buying a house shortly and did not want any inquiries on our credit. If you don't know what you are doing 100%, then ask someone, basic training would have been a major plus. The first time we used it, we had plenty of money in our bank account, we could not use it because our purchases were over $100.
We went to customer service and were there forever with people scratching their heads. We ended up being told that we have to call card services to find out what’s going on. We talked to them and they didn't seem to know either, but guessed that the more we used it the more we could spend the next time. The truth was, we figured out ourselves, was the first time was limited to $100, then next was whatever we wanted to spend. TARGET, train your people right if you are going to ask every consumer at every purchase if they would like this forsaken card. No one seemed to know what to do. Very disappointed in Target for this. Wish we would have not bothered.

I have had a Target RedCard since 2013. I didn't need another credit card, but I used to purchase everything at Target, and I thought I would take advantage of the 5% discount. After awhile, I stopped shopping at Target because it took so long to check out. On April 11, 2015, I used the Target RedCard to pay for merchandise totaling $41.46. A few weeks later, my mother passed away in Delaware. I went to Delaware and did not return until May 26th.
My mail was held by the post office, and delivered on May 26th. I never received a statement from Target. I never received an email. I did receive an email from Experian notifying me that Target made a derogatory report on my credit a few days ago. The $41.46 is now $141, and I was 60 days past due. I contacted Target and was told they sent email notifications, but the email address was incorrect. I never received statements or email notifications. I have never been delinquent on an account in my life. Now I have a bad report on my credit. It is a very harsh punishment over $41.46. I returned my card to Target and instructed Target to close my account.

In April I was "talked into" taking out a Target REDcard credit card as they were offering a discount on my purchases plus a free drink from the in-house Starbucks. I was making a rather large purchase so I thought that would be a nice savings plus a "perk", even though I don't really need another credit card. I was given some paperwork/receipts and told to "keep those till the card arrived" suggesting I could use it for a future purchase, but I unfortunately misplaced them (this is why I do everything possible paperless, because I can't keep track of all those little pieces of paper in my busy daily life).
In May I attempted to make another purchase but only then learned that I had to have the card in hand to get the discount. Unlike every other store with a card, they can't look up my number to give me a discount. By June I was becoming alarmed as I had still not received a bill or the card from Target and I was thinking by then the amount must be past due. I did not want to get late fees and a black mark on my credit. Unfortunately I was distracted by a family member's hospitalization and by the time I called them June 24 the late fees had already posted. So I did not get any discount and probably had to pay more for the items than if I'd used my regular credit card that I paid off every month.
Moreover, when I called the 888 number for their REDCARD to try to find out what I owed and get the account closed (since heaven knows where the card went), I kept getting a "technical difficulties, try again later" message despite trying from three phones including land line. I finally in desperation called the long distance 612 number that' s meant for people outside the USA and was able to get a person but was transferred four times, could hardly hear some of the reps because the connection was so bad despite my using a landline on my end, and their call cut off once so I had to call multiple times.
The reps were polite and did what I needed them to do but trying to reach them was a nightmare due to the phone problems. The last one was offering to "maybe" remove the late fees if I agreed to let them send me a new card but I was too worried the whole problem would just compound itself worse (since they never even got the first card to me) so I said NO and ate the fees. During the same period I took out a different card with another company and that arrived at my house just fine so I don't know what Target's problem is but this has been my worst card experience ever. I do not recommend their card at all!

I have had a REDcard with Target since 2010 with a $3000 credit limit. I use it occasionally. I mailed a $150 check to Target 2 months ago which was well over my minimum payment. I somehow forgot to pay my last month's billing which I have NEVER did that before. I visited the Target store last month. Shopped and at the register, I had a $30 purchase. When I swiped my Target card the guy said, "Ma'am your card is declined." He said, "Swipe it again." I did. Same thing. I paid with my debit card and walked over to the customer service desk. The lady called the 800# and I was told that I missed my minimum payment and that's why my card was declined. I asked, "How much do I owe you?" She said, "$54." I said, "But I overpaid you last month."
She saw that my last month payment posted on time and the amount. I said, "You declined my card for 1 $25 payment and I only owe you a total of $54 and I have a $3000 credit limit?" She stated, "Yes." I paid Target off, left the store and called the 800#. Spoke to 3 different people. I have their names. I CANNOT understand why my card was declined. The Target Credit Card Agreement does not state that my card will be declined if I miss 1 payment. I have 1 other credit card and if I make an overpayment on it, I don't have a minimum payment for the next month.

I applied for the Target Debit REDcard in 2010 and aside from the fact that this is a CHECK CARD and doesn't instantly debit your account (because it takes time for Target Card Services to contact your bank), it is more similar to writing a check than swiping your debit card. I've never once had an issue with my card though. I have on occasion forgotten that I made a purchase and have to transfer funds within my bank account to avoid overdraft fees, but that is entirely my forgetfulness, not Target's fault in the slightest. If you balance your account, as you should be doing as a responsible human being, then you won't have a problem. The debit card does not require you to make payments as it is debited from your existing checking account so I'm not sure what some commentators are referring to when they say they had to "make payments" or "pay off" their debit card. It doesn't work that way.
I have had the credit card now for two years and don't seem to understand the issues everyone else here seems to have had. I've had 3 late payments, all of which were entirely my fault but none of which affected my credit score. You can pay your bill online, over the phone, by mail or -- here's a novel idea -- IN THE STORE! Target gives you so many options to pay your bill (more than most store cards give you). I think it's evident they aren't trying to "steal your money" or "slow your payments" to rack up fees. They are a retail corporation, not a bank, they make money by keeping customers happy and coming back to their stores, not by credit card late fees and scams. That's what your bank makes money on.
From what I see in these comments is a bunch of people who don't want to take responsibility for their actions and purchases. "Target didn't give me a bill and I forgot I spent money" -- not Target's fault that you can't keep track of your purchases. "She didn't have the money and should never have made the purchase, but Target shouldn't have offered her a credit card that she couldn't afford" -- not Target's fault that the woman you're representing is ignorant and poor. They don't know someone is too stupid to figure out they actually have to pay for the stuff they buy. "My Target CREDIT CARD has an APR, and late fees! Absurd! Target is stealing from their customers!" -- this is how all credit cards work. You obviously are not intelligent enough to have one.
Seriously, reading these comments was infuriating. How can people be so utterly clueless? Aside from the people who complained of poor customer service (Target, do yourself a favor and pull out of India!), the rest of these complaints are completely unfounded. Be responsible with your purchases and your money.Pay attention to the questions when you're filling out the application. Go to the store to make your credit card payments with either cash, your debit card, or a check, all of which hit your account immediately. Keep track of your checking account and remember the what you spend. Or better yet, don't spend money you don't have on things you can't afford. Don't be stupid. Follow those guidance and you'll love saving 5% with your Target debit card or credit card.

Although I usually decline in-store credit offers, I went ahead and agreed to sign up for the red card since I would be purchasing some bar stools soon and the 5% off would be a nice savings. I signed up Feb 7th 2015 and received instant approval. By mid March, I realized I had not received the credit card in the mail. I went into the Target store and was told by the manager that they had no way to look up my info, issue a temporary card for use to make my purchase and that all I could do is call customer service. I called Target's Red card customer service and was told the cashier processed the application using the address on my driver's license. (One would think that TARGET would have learned its lesson re identify theft and AT A MINIMUM, TRAIN THEIR EMPLOYEES TO ASK FOR THE CURRENT ADDRESS!)
To add insult to injury, customer service could not tell me what items were purchased/billed and could not help me with anything other than the card open date. She then referred me to a different target customer service number for dealing with the issue and said they were closed. Due to my work schedule, each time I called, the Target office was also closed. Seven or eight calls later, when I did reach them, the calls were disconnected twice. When I finally got a hold of someone who was able to pull up the info I needed and correct the address, I asked him to please send me a statement so that I could also clear up the bill (the purchase made at card open time.) The rep also told me he would transfer me to the fraud section where they could close out the card that I hadn't received, issue me a new one and mail it to me.
Great, right?! Not so fast... The rep said that he COULD NOT HAVE A BILL SENT TO ME NOR WOULD HE TRANSFER ME TO THE FRAUD DEPARTMENT TO REPORT THE CARD LOST OR STOLEN UNTIL *AFTER* I MADE A PAYMENT OF $25!!!
So first Target runs my credit with a bad address, sends my mail to this incorrect address, then expects that I pay them without verifying my purchases with a credit card statement? The rep actually told me that because he told me verbally, I don't need a bill in order to verify/pay the account. Insane! I totally regret signing up for Target's card. The 5% discount is not worth it. Hell, I couldn't even take advantage of the 5% to purchase my barstools because I don't even have a card!! I am extremely disappointed. The bean counters have won and management must no have any common sense. I hope they make it illegal to open charge accounts by automatically scanning the addresses from the driver's license.

I called and explained that I had made the payment so they waived 1 fee of $25. My balance was then $74. Again, made that payment with my bank info after they waived the $25. 5 days later I get a letter from Target for a returned check (which btw is open with MORE than enough money in it). Now my balance is back to $99. I have never had to deal with any late payments or fees in my lifetime until I made that mistake and opened a Target card. I was told that they didn't have my social on file, even though it was taken in the first place and they were going to send me a letter to verify. Fine.
But two months later and I still can't get into my online account or get hold of anyone on the phone. I wanted to set up a telephone payment. Instead of making a one time payment like it says, they want routing and account numbers and a blank check number. My account doesn't have checks. The online system is extremely sensitive and easy to get locked out of. Once locked out, you have to call a customer service representative in order to be let back in. For me this took over an hour and required attempting to log in from multiple browsers and devices. Also tried to make payment over the phone that was rejected for some reason but wasn't notified that the payment didn't go through. With such trouble logging in to make payments the account lapsed and my credit score was negatively impacted, and Target won't remove the late reporting, even though it's their awful system that makes it so challenging to complete payments. The matter: I represent a buyer and soon to be single mom. This buyer charged a purchase to her card which she should not have done. It was a $152 purchase. She did not have the resources to pay for such a charge. We can all accept this was a poor decision by this adult. It was the first and only charge on the Target charge card. Four months following the purchase, the price ($152) of the product was paid to Target. In four months, following the purchase, the fees and interest on the purchase totaled more than the purchase. And the fees and the interest charges continue. This mom does did not have the resources to pay for the product and there is no way that she can pay for the fees and interest.
I have tried for more than three weeks to speak with a Target representative that has authority to stop the ever mounting charges which compound on themselves. Target makes it so difficult to reach a person. This simply a delay tactic. When a customer finally does speak with a person all the adviser can say is they are not authorized to make any settlement on the account. TARGET IS A POOR COMMUNITY MEMBER. TARGET IS BIG BUSINESS AT ITS WORST. TARGET IS THE REASON THE PUBLIC IS SUSPECT OF LARGE CORPORATIONS. Target is a business that promotes easy credit to unsuspecting buyers. Once a buyer accepts a Target charge card the holder is subjected to unscrupulous, usurious fees and interest. If the buyer has a hiccup with their payment record there is no way to speak with a representative THAT HAS AUTHORITY TO MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENT TO THE ACCOUNT.
A REPRESENTATIVE IS ONLY ALLOWED TO RECITE THE POLICY THAT NO ONE HAS AUTHORITY TO MAKE AN OBJECTIVE ASSESSMENT OF THE UNFAIR CHARGES. I am a business conservative, but the systematic approach that Target uses to signing unsuspecting buyers to charge cards with no available recourse when a problem is encountered is unforgiving. The fact that Target may continue to compound charges and fees on top or charges and fees long after the actual charge has been paid is usurious.
This is Target taking advantage of its size. They extend the easy credit to people they know by the demographic will have trouble paying the cards. When there is a missed or late payment, Target assesses fees which ramp up so fast that often Target collects many times the cost of the product, long after the product purchase price has been paid. Target is the reason we must have government oversight of unscrupulous corporations. Target has no moral compass.

He told me that my credit showed that I did not have to pay the service charges if I gave him my bank information over the phone. I did but was irritated because Target saves that information. The rep told me I should call in my payments in the future to avoid this from happening again. The more I thought about it, the more I began to think that Target does this on purpose to get payments faster and that my check wasn't lost, but withheld at their end. As I have seen in the many posts, my situation is somewhat similar. On or about Feb 5 or 6 2015, I made an on-line payment as I have done over the last 10 years always on time. In checking my bank account, I discovered that Target was the only bill not paid as of the Monday morning of Feb 9. I immediately logged on to REDcard account and it had in all cap/bold letters that “this was an attempt to collect a debt you are 1 day past due.” The minimum amount due had doubled and included a late fee. Mind you, my billing cycle was Feb 8 (Sunday).
So, I took to calling the wonderful 1-888 #. I spoke to a rep who after some time did offer to reverse the late fee if I paid $145 right then on the phone. I obliged and thanked him for the courtesy. He said it would take several hours to appear on the account. I hung up and could not shake the horrible feeling of being treated like I was a slacker and had never paid this bill on time. I checked the account a couple times over the next few hours and in doing so, I noticed my credit limit had been cut more than half. This now put my balance within $200 of my limit. I know this looks bad to the credit reporting agencies. I became furious. I have worked extremely hard to raise my credit score and ONE late payment by one day which I rectified immediately is going to affect my worthiness… Bull!
I again took to the 1-888 #. This time I get **. She was pleasant but insisted there was absolutely nothing she could do about credit limits. She said she would get a "supervisor". She returned stating she had explained the situation to her "supervisor" and was going to transfer me to her. The "supervisor" answered with what do you need help with? My first thought was didn't ** tell you that? She then said "she said you aren't happy with your credit limit." Well, I was until today! She proceeded to tell me that the computer is in charge of lowering the credit limit upon you not paying your bill on time. I asked for her supervisor because I thought she was a bit rude but she said there is nobody there higher than her and I would have to go through the actual mail.
I honestly think the "supervisor" was the chick sitting next to ** somewhere in Central America, India or the Philippines. I decided to first transfer the entire balance of this ridiculously high APR card to another creditor that has been very willing to reward me for my impeccable pay ethic. I recently sent an email to Brian Cornell and any other email address for Target Corporate Officers. I am an immigrant who applied for and received a SSN in 2013. Now, I have two hard inquiries on by Credit Bureau file and I am denied a CC just because my SSN was issued after June 2011!
There are at least 2 million legal immigrants who entered US after that date. Most of them work and earn and have good credit standing (including me). Either change the policy of denying recent SSNs or warn the applicant about the date limit. I feel cheated because there are now two new hard inquiries and no Credit Card for me.

Have had the card now for a short period and it started out rough. First thing my first bill was never received until the day I received my second bill. I tried to contact them before had and they said "it's fine, payment isn't due yet." Once I received the second bill (same day the first one arrived) there was a $25 late fee on the card also. I called and informed them of this situation and they removed the $25 after 4 calls and about 3 hours of phone time. In the end of this situation they were informed the date and total amount agreed to be paid. For the following week and a half I received 3-5 phone calls a day starting at 8:15 am, all of which I informed them of the information they have already received.
After I made the payment and the money was withdrawn from my account I called to confirm all is well, but because their systems are outdated they still did not have the information received other than a payment was made. The person that I dealt with continue to request me to make a payment, even though one was made. Also without my permission someone posted an agreement to pay 2 days after the due date. I have a total of 13 different cards one including the dreaded Walmart card and none of which is nearly as bad as the company handling Targets card. Target is in financial situations as it is and them using such a poor company will just make it worst for them. Not one of the people I deal with could speak English very fluently, and this is not something that usual bothers me. But when dealing with my money I expect the ability to understand what I am saying, and very few could.

Having been in a car accident and dealing with short-term memory loss, I closed my Target debit card because it isn't a real debit card; sometimes the charges don't come out of my bank account for days and that fouled me up. I decided to open a Target credit card so I would get a bill in the mail; that way I couldn't forget. So much for that idea. It's hard to pay your bill when you don't receive a statement. When I called Target about not receiving a bill they looked up my account and told me that in January I went online and requested no statements to be sent. That is absolutely ridiculous. The only reason I got the credit card was to get a bill.
I have been a long time Target shopper and had been a loyal shopper, but no more. Their debit card fouled me up something terrible and now their credit card. I honestly believe that they are trying to make money off of late fees. I think they are very dishonest. I would not recommend any of the Target cards to anyone. The 5 percent you save is made up somewhere, trust me.

A month later I'm set to collections for $15, since they didn't take care of it the first time, so I re-paid and re-closed it. Another month goes by and they post a negative inquire in my credit score dropping it 15 points, as not paid.

I have not had this card very long, but so far it has been nothing short of an inconvenience. I use this card to get the 5% off. However, every time I use it, (my first complaint) it gets declined and then I have to call them to authorize the purchase, but they can never tell me why, and then immediately send me an activity alert email. Not to mention, the credit limit I was given was only $300 and I have an excellent credit score with excellent credit. My second complaint is in which every time I use the card, I then in turn pay off the balance. Target takes the funds from my bank right away, but I was informed Target has a policy in place that "large payments" take 2-4 weeks for the credit to show up in your account. Keep in mind my credit limit is $300, lol. I found this out by it declining at the check out for the billionth time... again.

I noticed that my recent transaction from Target did not come through in my bank statement so I called Target to make good of it. The Target associate on the phone told me not to worry, that the transaction would run its course and still try to take the money directly out of my account that was linked to my Target debit card, and then I would not be assessed any fees from Target for them doing this.
Then three weeks later I received a $35 service fee in the mail. I called Target's retention department and explain my dissatisfaction with getting a service charge. Since I would have to spend $700 to break even on the 5% cash back which is the reason for the card on the first place. If they were unwilling to waive this fee one time then I have no use to continue to be a Target customer. They told me I have to pay it into order to close the card so I paid it and then was transferred to another department to cancel the card.
I spoke to another associate who was very nice and listened to my story, and she was willing to look into it. After 15 minute hold time, the phone system bumped me back to the payment center to make the same payment I just made. They transferred me back to canceling the card and an Indian man answered. I explained my frustration once more and he responded rudely, like I was wasting his time. He said he sees no charge and I explained again that I just paid it. I told him if Target is unwilling to refund me my $35 I have no reason to be a Target customer. He put me on hold then got back on the phone and said that he canceled the card and made a point to say that I no longer can ever have a card with target under my social. So unprofessional.

I got signed up for the red card. Feb 14th 2015 was approved. Made a purchase also on the 15th of Feb. By Feb 30th I realized I still had no card. I called Target's Red card customer service and was told they used my address I had on my driver's license. I told them I had just moved a week prior and all my mail was being forwarded to my current address so that should have not prevented me from receiving the red card. The rep then said he would resend the red card. I said fine, just shook it off.
Well March 3rd arrives still no card but I got a advertising from target about the red card from target but not my red card. I call customer service (foreign crooks) and they tell me my card is coming, so I ask them can I go ahead and get my account info, by now I had already verified all my personal info (last digits of social, address, name) the usual questions to verify oneself. Well the rep then tells me he cannot give me any account info without my target credit card number. I was pissed I wanted to go ahead a pay towards the bill. The rep then says he can take my payment over the phone, really? He'll take my payment but not give my account information.
Target has resorted to the highest crime of identity theft hiring foreigners to steal your personal information. Target is allowing reps to hold your account information, but ask you all of your information. How is this legal? I then went to a local store and spoke with a target manager, she called the credit card reps and said she wanted to hear this whole situation. The new rep said basically the same thing and the other rep, but told the manager that my card had not been sent due to me not verifying my address. At that point I knew 100% what target is doing the CEO of target is worst than the CEO in the movie Monsters Inc. He'll resort to stealing to make his company continue.
The rep said my first payment would not be due until April, absurd I made my purchase Feb 14th why would my first bill not be due Mar 14th? All my other Department store cards allow me to pit my info in a computer and the can pull up my account in person not in a local store, they can only take a payment if you have your red card. I never write reviews but the CEO of target is commuting fraud and it needs to be stopped. Also be careful ordering online with target once they ship you the item and you don't get it their team of foreign reps will hang up on you, refuse to answer your questions and basically tell you too damn bad. Brian Cornell is the new CEO of target. I'm sure he is ensuring that customer service continue to steal in Targets honor. Crooks = Target.

Where do I even start? I've had a horrible experience with Target Guest Services and their customer service. I opened a Target Credit Card last October of 2014 and I have been a good customer, paying my bills online on time (never late or missed a payment; ever since the account was opened, I've never paid interest because I pay it off right away so that tells you something). Well, last month I changed the account I use to pay my bills through my bank. Made my usual payment on my Target Credit Card and after a few days, found a "Returned Payment Fee" on my Target account. I was shocked knowing I had made the payment on time and funds were sufficient on my account, but I got a FEE for trying to pay my bill?!! I called my bank and found that the account I was using to pay my Target Credit Card was not an account I could use to pay bills on. So this part was my fault for being ignorant. Nevertheless, an honest mistake.
So I explained my dilemma to one of the supervisors (**) at Target Card Services and told him that I had received a "Returned Payment Fee" from them. He wasn't willing to give me a courtesy refund. He said for them to give me a refund, it would have had to be a Target error and in this case it wasn't. So I asked him in my case, I'm a good customer who pay the bills on time, never missed a payment, but made one dumb mistake. At this point, I was frustrated and was ready to close my account. I even asked him, "Are you not willing to make an exception and give a courtesy refund to keep the customer from closing their account?", and he said no and it was better off if I had closed my account. Wow! He really said this! I was shocked. In this case, he said it was Target policy and it was something I had agreed on when I opened the account.
I do remember signing and reading their policy, but honestly this was an unexpected and uncommon circumstance and they weren't willing to make the courtesy refund. Instead, he said I could try to request a letter from my bank stating that it was a bank error and that funds were sufficient during that time that I was trying to make a payment. And then MAIL it to them since they cannot receive it through EMAIL. So, I go ahead and do exactly what he said. Finally mailed it to the Target Card Services department and after a few days, I tracked the letter sent and showed they had received it. So I call them again and they said they didn't have it yet and to go ahead and EMAIL a copy to them. ARE YOU SERIOUS?! I was told that I couldn't EMAIL and went through all that trouble mailing it. So... to make this loooooong story short. I finally got a refund (after 3 weeks of dealing with all this stuff) and paid my dues.
Today, I called Target Card Services to close my account with no intention to explain myself. Just close and be done with it. But of course I was asked WHY I want to close it and to give them feedback. So I tell them THE WHOLE STORY... and in the end this representative (**) said that Target did everything they can and it was still my choice to close it. Kinda like saying, "Well, we did what we can but in the end it's still your fault and your choice". As if trying to argue with me. She had a frustrated tone of voice, like she couldn't wait to get off the phone. Funny that she was frustrated when I was the one that had to go through crap?! Really bad customer service to me.
Overall, PLEEEEEAAASE re-consider if you want to open a credit card through Target. Be ready for some frustrating, horrible experience if you make one mistake. Be assured, it will take a while just to get your money back, or you'd be lucky if you do get a refund. If I were you, don't waste your time. There are other credit card companies that are more professional and will treat customers right. I will never open a Target card (Debit or Credit) and will never recommend it to anyone. Save you all the misery!

The cashier asked if I had a "member card for 5% discount on all purchases" and I said no. I was then asked if I wanted to sign up for membership to receive the discount and I said, "sure, why not?" When scanning over the terms presented on the tiny payment pad screen, I realized it was talking about a credit card. I asked, "Wait, so this is for a credit card?" and the cashier replied that it was included for free with membership. I asked specifically, "Will this sign-up hit my credit report? Is this going to show up as a credit inquiry?" and was told that no, it would be a "soft inquiry" that would never show up on my credit score or credit reports. I decided to continue based on the cashier's statement, and proceeded to sign up for the card.
The Target credit inquiry now shows up in my Equifax credit report and has negatively impacted my credit score. I called the customer service number in the card agreement documents furnished to me so that I could cancel the service (I don't want the impact of a "young" credit account plus the credit inquiry on my score), but was informed I could not be verified as the card owner because the address used on the account was from my driver's license. During the sign-up process, I specifically edited current address data because my driver's license has a past address where I no longer reside (yes, I updated the Department of Licensing, and no, they did not tell me I should have to obtain a new ID card or license). It looks like they used the address on the card anyway.
They did help me to update the address on the account, but said they still could not cancel the card until I had received it in the mail and could verify the full card number. Don't let them talk you into signing up for this card! It does perform a hard inquiry on your credit score, you will not be able to cancel and back out if you change your mind. And given the other reviews about late payment fees and interest, I am fully expecting to have a huge hassle when trying to make payments since I cannot sign up for an online account or view statements until the card arrives at my (updated) address.

My wife opened a Target Red Card in her name in 2013. She has both email alerts sent as well as regular snail mail invoices. We've never had a problem receiving invoices and she pays it on time and in full every month. In July I wanted to make a purchase of $87.14 and didn't have her card. I was advised to open my own account and that's where the nightmare started.
I never received a credit card & forgot about the purchase. I did not receive an invoice until mid-October 2014, which included 3 months of late fees and interest. I spoke with a customer service rep who said they didn't care that I never received a card, if the card wasn't returned to sender they consider it received. She also said that it's not their problem that I didn't receive a bill.
I submitted payment for the original amount in full but protested the late fees and interest. They not only refuse to waive these fees, but continue to charge late fees and interest on the late fees. They also harass me at all hours of the day and night, despite the fact that this is illegal. They also threaten to ruin my credit. I reported them to the BBB in Sioux Falls, SD. I also sent letters to the 3 credit bureaus asking them to note that we are disputing the charges. They sent me a letter stating that they refuse to stop piling on the fees because they have been sending me email invoices and they are not responsible for my Internet Service Provider (meaning sent the bills and it's not their fault I didn't get them.) The email address I provided is my wife's and she gets her invoices just fine. And, oddly enough, after they received a letter from the BBB, my wife received an email invoice dated Jan. 5, 2015. They now want $134 in late fees and interest.
I sent a certified letter to Target Corporate Service on 1/5/2015 which was received but not responded to. They only responded to the BBB. Logically, if we pay our original card on time and in full every month since 2013, why would we ignore a bill for $87.13?
My next step is contacting my newspaper's consumer affairs column, as well as my county and state's consumer affairs division. I've started research Red Card Complaints and it seems like these people lie, extort money and use illegal practices to try to collect additional fees from people. We are cutting up my wife's card and finding other stores to shop in.

I have had a Target Visa Redcard since 1998. My credit limit was up to $8,000. Several months ago I noticed that my card would be denied if I was buying anything over $200. Of course, the store itself could not help me and said to call the number on the back of the card, which I did -- several times. I got someone in the Philippines; then someone in Central America. I was told because I had not used the card for about a year and because I was retired with no income stated that the computer had decided to lower my credit limit from $8,000 to $200 a month. Records show that I have always paid my bill on time so that is not an issue. The person on the phone then said he could not do anything to help me increase my credit limit, that no one could. It was up to the computer.
I asked to speak to a supervisor who said the same thing. I was given a number at Target corporate which sent me back to Central America. Then I went online to file a complaint and was not allowed to do that either for no reason given. I've had my Redcard 14+ years, yet I still have the same pathetic $200 credit limit they gave me back when I was in college. You'd think they would increase the limit every so often or even if you call and request it, but NO they don't do credit limit increases. That's the answer you'll receive online or over the phone (Provided the Redcard site is actually working), they don't even look into your credit history or history you've had with them. For 5+ years I've inquired every 6 month, and it's always "We're not doing increases at this time".
I pay my card off on-time every month, I mean it's not that hard when you only have the power to buy a pack of razors and gallon of milk. Over the 14+ years, there was only TWO occasions where it showed my payment being late. Both times were due to errors within the Redcard website. In both cases the payment method and amount options were the same. I clicked the option to pay the "Statement Balance", I selected my checking account, and both times I had paid the statement balance within 24hrs of getting the alert saying my statement was ready to view. In fact after the first time it happened, I went online and selected the option to receive a printed statement mailed to me and along with the online alerts. I would pay the bill before the mailed copy was printed out, the statement I received showed the payment dates and also showed ($0.00 Min Payment).
The second time it happened I called them and asked why it says I have late payment fee, the agent said I didn't make the minimum payment on-time. I told her that was incorrect, I said "here is the confirmation number for online payment for the full amount of statement balance." I was told the payment went to what I owed from the previous month, the system applied it to my previous month's balance that was the difference between the "Statement Balance" to "Current Account Balance". The balance carried over was $41 that hadn't yet posted because it was an online order, they put a "HOLD" on the funds but don't actually post the charge until it's shipped. The online order was sent out 48hrs after the statement was mailed so it didn't even show on the balance owed.
I offered to fax over copy of balance statement I received weeks prior showing $0.00 min payment due and $0.00 for the statement and current account balance. I was told I need to be checking the website to confirm my payments were posted, that if I had checked the site it would've showed a min payment was due. I thought a payment confirmation #, plus seeing the funds coming out of my checking account. After talking to 3 different supervisors they finally waived the late fees.
After reading a few of the complaints on here, I see that others had similar problems making payments on the website. Before I even looked at the reviews on here, I sent Target an E-Message asking how to cancel my account. The 5% savings I receive using my Redcard isn't worth the headache, I can receive more points using my Amex that doesn't have a set spending limit. The most I can realistically spend ranges from $188-198 depending on if it's eligible for 5% discount and if it's taxable. As far as I'm concerned, Target has become disconnected with the longtime loyal customers.

I want to love my Target Debit Card. I really do. But I have had NOTHING but issues with them. I opened up a Target Debit card back in 2011. Because things took so long to come out, (I'm talking weeks) I would have to mentally remember not count certain funds in my account and allot them to Target. After having a returned purchase I had to pay some $35 fee for my bank AND for target for a TEN DOLLAR purchase. I called and closed the account. I made sure to even call back to ensure it was closed. I even closed my bank account because I was having issues with them also. Fast forward to November 2014, I reapply for a debit card, thinking maybe things have changed. At a target guest service desk, I was told I was not "approved" for it and that further explanation would come in the mail. I thought to myself, maybe I don't need a debit card with Target anyway since my last experience did not go so well.
A week later, a letter comes from Target explaining I could not open an account because get this..... I ALREADY HAVE ACCOUNT SINCE 2011. It was never closed. I should have turned away then but I didn't. I had them send me out another card. They told me I'd have to update my banking info and call in to activate. I did that. Then I get a letter last week saying that they are closing my account due to returned payment. They said my bank info was never updated and charged me a fee of $20 for a $13 purchase. I called in immediately and told them that I did so call and update my banking info. And of course, once I re-gave them the info, they debited my account and I'm pissed. Why am I being penalized for them not having updated my account accurately? I had the money. Or else I would not have even used the card to save 10 freaking cents.
What further made me angry was the rep I spoke to. I asked her if I could speak to her manager and also file a complaint. She has the nerve to say, “Well I don't know why you'd want to complain, let’s just move forward, it’s only $20!" I'm a nurse who works hard for my money like the rest of us. I don't deserve this. This last May, on the 5th, I called in my payment of $122.29 to Target Redcard. This represented the total balance on my account, so I was, to my knowledge, paying the card off in full. Now here's where I made my mistake: although I paid it on the 5th, I actually paid it after hours so my payment was technically 1 day late. I remember - now - of noting this at the time, and making a mental note to call them and ask if they would wave the late fee in light of the fact that I had just paid the card off in full. In one previous instance they had obliged me by removing a late fee for another payment I had made one day late. So I was assuming my new request would not be a problem. But then I forgot to call.
And frankly forgot all about it. In my mind I had paid it off so this account was null and void. I even made the mistake of ignoring several statements that came in the mail, not even opening them because I was sure it would reflect only a zero balance. Then I happened to open my Aug. statement, and was shocked to discover that they believed I owed them $147! I called and they were utterly, entirely, absolutely unhelpful and unyielding non-empathetic. The original representative I talked to initially said, "Well, let's see what we can do," then put me on hold for an eternity, only to came back and say there was nothing anyone could do because the amount due was more than 3 months delinquent. And that has been the party line they have been sticking to in every one of our subsequent conversations. Turns out that even though I thought I had paid off the card in full, since I made that payment one day late their computer system applied the daily interest charge to my balance before my payment came in. That interest charge was somewhere over $1 but under $2. They then tacked on a $35 late fee and have continued to tack on $35 late fees every month since.
As of this writing they believe I owe them $262.94. I have repeatedly offered to pay the original interest charge and late fee and they consistently tell me that this is an "unreasonable" request. I find their use of the word "unreasonable" most ironic coming from people who find it entirely "reasonable" to inflate a $1.50 interest charge and a $35 late fee into a minimum payment due of $262.94. Neither have they shown any of what I would call the "reasonable" human emotions of empathy, understanding, rationality, or logic. All they tell me, time and again, is that since the payment is over 3 months old there is nothing they can do. Which is, to my understanding of the word: unreasonable.

I received my statement in August. I had a balance of $39.00 in September. I paid $25.00 online from my bank and my paper statements were turned off. I paid $25.00 in October. My electronic statements were going in spam. I got call from customer service in November that I have balance of $109.00 which I had to pay out of my savings from the money I saved for Christmas shopping for my kids in order to save my credit. I really cried after getting ripped off by a name like target. I called customer service but neither the customer service representative nor the manager showed any courtesy of crediting my unintentional mistake. It is shame.

Two months ago, I received a letter stating that my bill was overdue, but I had never received one, electronically or paper. When I looked up my account, a late fee was added to my account. When talking to a representative, he insisted that my bill was emailed to me, but after checking all folders in my account, including spam, I had never received the bill. I verified my email address and was ensured I'd get all bills emailed to me. Today, I received another letter in the mail, again stating that I'm overdue and with a late fee added. Yet, I never got any bills emailed to me for the past two months. It seems like the company is trying to scam its customers into paying late fees. I'm surprised that a company like Target is doing this. I'm canceling this card right away.

I've had my Redcard for about two years. Typically I would arrange for the payment, it would clear my bank account the next day, and then within two days it would appear on my credit line. Suddenly about two months ago, two weeks would go by and the payment would still not be posted on my credit line despite having been removed from my bank account the day after the payment as planned. I've called them about four times with this problem and they have fixed it immediately.
Tonight when I called (after a $100 payment cleared my bank account over two weeks ago) they refused to remedy the situation without confirming with my bank that the funds had cleared. Given that it's 7 PM on a Saturday, my bank was not open. They said I would have to wait until my bank was open (Monday) to get this settled. When I brought up that it had been remedied immediately before, they said "well that shouldn't have happened and we will punish those team members."
I asked for a supervisor so I could express my displeasure that they were basically holding $100 of my dollars hostage and not allowing me to use it when it had been successfully taken from my bank account weeks ago. The supervisor was basically saying the same thing over and over from a script ("I'll forward your feedback.") which caused me to lose my temper more than I should. I assured her I will play it their way and take care of it Monday, but due to this inconvenience if it happens again after this, I will be closing my account as I do not have the time, patience, or money to give them $100 and have it sit in limbo for weeks until I take time out of my day to conference call them and my bank every single time I make a payment. Of course she was like "We don't want you to do that." I spend way too much money at Target for this nonsense.

I have had medical issues and have gotten behind on my Target Red Card. I have spoken to approximately 4 different people at Target. I explained the situation and wanted to set up a payment plan with them. My bill was originally 69.00. Now it is 300.00, with every month a late fee of 35.00. All of the people I talked to at Target wouldn't work with me. Some even asked if I could borrow the money from a neighbor! They said that their hands were tied and because my account wasn't a year old they needed me to pay it all. I wanted to pay 25.00 a month but they said that I would just keep getting further behind because the late charge was more and would continue. They stated they couldn't do anything to stop it... I asked to speak to a supervisor but none would put one on the phone... This is CRAZY that a Retail Giant like Target doesn't have a heart!! I will never shop at Target again!!!

My husband and I were ecstatic to begin paying down the debt we accrued in grad school and raising a family. We paid off our Target card ($500) in cash last month at the Boulder store. We closed the account and cut up the card. And erroneously threw away the paper receipts believing that the balance being 0 would suffice. NO RECORD of this transaction exists suddenly. No online receipt. No record at the branch. Mom was right. Don't throw anything away. Expensive lesson and hours worth of very little helpful customer service runaround.

However, "customer service" had my correct address, I received the prior Target bill and all of my other bills have arrived. When I attempted to use my Target Redcard last Christmas (I've had this account since 1999), I was declined. I had just checked my balance two weeks prior; I had $9,000 available to use at that time and no outstanding balance. When I called the company, I was told that my account did not have enough activity on it so they reduced my limit to $200 and increased my APR. Requesting an increase so I could still have a decent Christmas, I was told it could not be done, but that they would evaluate my request and send me a letter. No letter was ever sent. Several phone calls, requests and a year later, I've given up. I called to close the account - it's a totally automated process. They clearly have NO interest in keeping long-term customers or providing credit, even to credit-worthy people. It is a very strange way to do business after 15 years of providing decent service, but it's a reflection of their brand's current quality, I suppose.

I called Target Redcard customer service to request a waiver of a late fee back in July 2014. The representative agreed and so I paid the principal balance without the late fee. They never sent a bill the following month and I was away the month after. Therefore after two cycles I saw that I had a balance of 88 dollars, all the while I thought I did not owe anything. I called up customer service and the first representative practically accused me of lying. I called again and a new representative, Jaylin, told me that if I paid some of the charges I would bring up my account to current and would be eligible to remove at least one late payment fee of 35 dollars. I was not satisfied with this but it seemed like the only option. I paid 50 dollars and when I called back, the representatives said that I was not eligible for a waiver and that the representative was from collections and had no authority to promise that. So in the end, it seemed like their collections department deceives their customers into paying on the spot instead of trying to resolve an issue.
I have talked to many representatives, which all sound uneducated and unprofessional, who all claim that they are supervisors. They would not pass my call to their supervisors or any escalated level of personnel. Finally one representative gave me a general complaint number to Target Corporate. This man sounded more helpful but ultimately gave me a wrong number. When I called back, another guest relations representative, Claudia, told me she could not help me and would not give me any numbers as well. I gave up on trying to reason with these crooks, and reported them to the BBB. I will cancel my card after the investigation resolves.

I must add that I have not had the CS problems that others have reported here. My question/complaint is why is the online site not available; and, if paperless billing (and payment) is still not available, just how is one supposed to receive a statement? Now, I would suggest that those who have described such terrible problems file a class action suit. I closed my account when interest rose to 24.99 but have a balance to pay off, so I would not join or initiate a suit, but I surely would recommend it to those whose experiences have been so much worse than mine. I made last month's payment by phone and will make this month's that way as well. I hope I get that nice CS representative I spoke with last time!

Target Redcard credit card representatives are unprofessional, mathematically incompetent, and desperate to cheat their customers. My husband and I spoke with 3 Target Redcard representatives and 1 Supervisor (Susie) over the phone with regards to our billing statement. The 3 Target Redcard representatives failed to do their job and 1 Supervisor (Susie) was argumentative, disrespectful, and was unable to do basic addition/math when viewing the billing statement.
Susie (the Target Redcard representative Supervisor) was stating/arguing that the late fee of $25 was removed but the billing statement total due was with the $25 added. We spent about 20 minutes explaining for her to do math of the total purchase amount and the billing statement due amount. At the end, Susie realized the error and rudely communicated that $25 late fee will be removed and provided the correct total due amount. This experience of communicating with Target Redcard representatives were most disturbing and it is unfortunate representation of Target as a company. In 2007, my wife (at the time) and I had 2 Target credit cards. We were divorced in in June 2012. Part of my divorce decree, the two Target accounts were awarded to my ex-wife as separate property and debt. She proceeded to run up the cards to about $2600, then stopped paying. I had no idea what she was doing with those cards until I was refused credit in November 2012. I called Target and was told the only to close the accounts was to pay the balances to zero. I spoke with my ex-wife and told her in no uncertain terms that I wanted those accounts paid and closed. She eventually paid them to zero in July of 2013. Target closed 1 account, but not the other. Target told me that two days later, my ex reported the card lost. Target then renumbered the account and sent her another card. They never contacted me or sent me a card.
In September 2013 I went on deployment with the military, and was gone out of the country until May of 2014. I checked my credit and saw I still owed Target $1222, and that it was delinquent. I called Target, and was told by one man who answered that I owed the money. A second call and I was told I owed nothing, and the accounts were closed. If I wanted proof, all I had to do was send my address to Target, and they would send out the letter. I never received anything. no bill, no card, no call, nothing. September 2014, I applied for a home loan, and discovered that the late/delinquent had been charged off and closed by the creditor. I started calling Target right away, and to date have called them at least 30 times. I was told that I could not speak to anyone regarding my account dispute, and that I'd have to only communicate by mail.
So, I packaged up my divorce papers, my credit report, my military orders, and a 3 page letter explaining why this is not my debt, and asking why Target did not close the accounts after my ex-wife and me had instructed them to close both accounts after balances were paid. I can't get anyone at Target to say they got my mail or not, and after several more frustrating calls and attempts by Target to collect from me, I decided to send the package again. I sent it last Thursday and specified someone sign for it. I paid for next day delivery and it got to Minnesota on Friday, but nobody from Target got it until today (10/14/14). I get home from work today and get a brief letter from Target stating that they "investigated your concerns and confirmed that the information were reported to the National Credit Bureaus about the account is correct"!!! That's It?
My assertion all along is that this is not my debt. I never made any of the purchases, the purchases weren't even in California, where I live. They've told me during my many phone calls that "the account wasn't closed". Well, WHY? I asked them to close it, my ex-wife asked them to close it. I can't close it myself. So the way it looks to me is that Target out of greed failed to close it. My credit was about 750 before this happened, and because of this it went down to 600. :( I'm at the end of my rope, and I'm sure they're hoping I'll just give up... Whatever happens, I will never spend a penny at Target ever again. They train their people to lie and not to close accounts under any circumstances. That's why I'm having these problem---Target's failure to honor my wishes and close the account.

A month ago I was late in paying my bill, I think by a few hours, so called Target and thought the operator had waived late fee and/or interest charge if I signed up for auto pay. In fact he signed me up for minimum payment and I made him go back and sign me up for paying my account in full. The next month the auto pay did not work. I did get an email and text message saying to pay my bill but I thought that I just needed to go in and delete those options on the reminder page since the Target Operator had signed me up for auto pay and did not deselect those reminder options.
Well I get a text 7 days after my bill is due (if the text would have been 5 days, I could have paid my account and received no late fee or finance charge but they texted me 7 days after). I started calling on Saturday (8-23). I get operators in the Philippines and they do not want to transfer me to an American operator, so I am either on hold forever or they say they cannot hear me but do still want my name and info. I finally got an American Operator in Tempe and she told me that the department that handles late payments was not open and I needed to call back on Sunday (8-24). I did and the Philippines operators were still rude and not willing to transfer me to American Operator unless I demanded their name and ID number.
I get a male Operator in the USA and he informs that the department that I need to talk to is not open on Sunday but was open on Saturday. Since I am in Neb., my state has a special issue. So I call back on Monday (8-25) and now I am getting Target operators in Central America and they tell me they cannot transfer me to USA until I start asking them for names and ID numbers - in fact one started yelling at me saying it was illegal for me to tape-record her. I get an American Operator and tell her the ordeal I have had and she assures me that she will stay online until she gets me to the correct dept. I get disconnected. I call back and have to deal with Central American Operators again that are rude and not cooperative unless I threaten them with getting their name and reporting them to Target. I get An American Operator that transfers me to the correct department.
Target has hired a party in Jamaica to collect late bills, called Alliance One or Alliant One. I ask the operator to be transferred to an American Rep and she tells there is not any. So I go ahead and pay my late bill and she does waive the late fee. I asked about waiving the finance charge and she says she can't but Target could. She transfers me back to an American Target Operator, a younger guy. I ask about refunding my finance fee and he checks with his manager and comes back and says he could but since I just made the payment I would need to wait 24 hours and to call back the next day. I told that I was not happy with Target having an off shore company collecting my money and he informed there was an Alliance One or Alliant One office in South Dakota. I live in Neb! And he encouraged me to call them to tell them of my issues with their rep.
I call back today (8-26) to express my concerns about the poor quality of operators and all the misinformation that is given out and basically they feel sorry for me but can't help me. I was getting irritated with my phone rep and she did hang up on me. I had just bought about 90 bucks of groceries and DVDs tonight at Target and I called the store to tell them that I would be bringing them back tomorrow because of the poor service I had received from their customer number on the back of the credit card. The store manager gave me a different number so I called.
This operator was American from the start and was more understanding but could not refund the $3.68 finance charge but asked if I wanted to talk to her manager and I did. He was understanding but said they could not give me back that amount since I was past the 5 days. I kept telling him if I had gotten the text on the 5th day I would have called but I got it on the 7th. It's the principle of the matter, not the $3.68. They misinformed me and feel sorry for me but will not help correct the mistake. They would rather lose a customer than help fix the issue. I drive 30 miles one way to shop at Target and I have a Wal-Mart in my hometown 2 miles away.

I have been a Target Red Cardholder since 2007. The credit limit has been $300 the whole time. I called every now and then to see if they could increase it. I have never been late, and tried a variety of strategies to get them to raise it... Paying off the balance in full, and keeping a balance to let them earn interest. When I call in, they say they aren't accepting CL increases at this time. That has been their motto for several years.
What frustrates me is that when I pay off my balance in the store in cash, they still hold off restoring the available credit for at least a week. When I called them about this, they said I could call in each time I made a payment and give them information on the payment receipt and that would restore the available credit. Honestly, I have better things to do. However, with such a low limit, the way the credit is restored materially affects me. Knowing I had a payment due on the 25th of June, I was hoping to get the new card before payment was due. I did not receive the card and went to the store to see if they could help me with the payment and I was told without the card number they could not help me. I called customer service to ask what I should do in a situation like this. She suggested I pay over the phone when I did not know what account my money would be going to since the other account was closed and I had not received a new number yet. I also did not have the money in my checking account.
Needless to say I just received my bill with a $35.00 late fee. I then called the Target customer representative who would not remove the fee. I then asked for the supervisor, explained the situation and he told me because they already waived one this year he would not do it. I have been a customer of Targets for several years and never had any financial problems, but I do think because this incident was out of my control because card was stolen, they should have made an exception to the rule. I have had a Target Redcard since 2006. It is only $500 limit which is very low. Since it is a Visa card, I have used it a couple of other places in the last couple of months and I pay my card off every month. Last month my total was close to $480 which I again paid off. 10 days later I try to use my Redcard AT TARGET!!! And was refused. Since I knew I had paid it off several days before I became very concerned about fraudulent activity. I have NEVER been refused on anything before... EVER! So I came home and looked online. Sure enough they show that my card was PAID IN FULL 10 days earlier.
Money had even come out of my bank account BUT, I only had $26 is available credit.... WHAT? So I called and this is the explanation I received. "Mrs. **, you have never paid THAT much on your card before (never mind I pay it off every single month... up to and well over $200 most months). Our system is only programmed to receive credit card payments of $25. Therefore, we must investigate that this is a proper transaction...."??? NO I am NOT kidding! Now.... had I tried to MAKE a $480 CHARGE, then yeah... I can see the concern. BUT NO! I was penalized for paying off my freaking card!! They will hold your account hostage for up to 2 weeks to make sure the PAYMENT is ok???? WTH!
They already had their money! I had paid it off and tried to use it AT TARGET! So...... I did NOT get my 5% and most likely will not be using my Target Redcard again. I lost about $20 in savings that day. Really???? That doesn't sound like much, but it doesn't matter how much it was. The principle that they penalized me for PAYING off my card is asinine!!!!! Thankfully I have other credit cards. When I called, they released my credit line, but then it was too late! That didn't do any good on my purchase already that day. I do not recommend this card unless you are going to use it at Target or Target.com on a regular basis to receive the 5% discount. Assuming you haven't paid too much on it...... *grrr* You will HAVE to pay it all off every month; otherwise, the 24.99% interest is not worth the savings you will get.

Upon filling out the application, we find out a credit line was assigned, but only after almost 90 days because we were told all purchases would be paid in full by our Mileage Accumulation card and that sometimes it takes a while to set up. We were told it works one way by many different people including agents in the call center only to find out it works another and yet to find anyone who can help us get things squared away.
Here we are 8 months later, still trying to get the issue resolved and Target continues to tack on this $26 fee each month that the issue is outstanding along with reporting to the Credit Bureaus about the delinquency. We cannot close the account because there are constant fees incoming and we cannot pay those because we are locked into customer service nightmare who do not have the proper tools to handle customer issues. If you ask for a supervisor, you end up with a more senior customer service person who has the same abilities as the one before and they cannot help either and have no one to refer you to. Those "supervisors" people are just better at arguing and interrupting and demanding payment of fees. We have paid four of these $26 fees ($104) and only spent a total of $221 using the card with a current balance of $53 ($26+ and a now escalating $27 fee), and several 90-day lates reported to credit.

I got the red card - it is NOT a credit card, it is a debit card hooked directly to my checking account. I live in Las Vegas, NV. Around Christmas time, there was a $30(ish) charge on my bank statement, but nothing saying what it was. It had already gone through - so I was out 30 bucks and I had no idea what for. I called my bank to find out what it was, and they told me it was a "recurring" charge from Target. Since I had not been to Target in quite a while and certainly had no recurring charges set up, I called Target. They told me that the charge was made in Eastern Washington.
When I told them that I don't live anywhere near there, they told me to file a report with the local police. Of course, the Nevada police just laughed at me - what does a charge supposedly in Washington have to do with them and what could they do about it? Next, I get a letter from a collection agency saying that I owe a $25 late fee - for what??? They got their money and it came straight out of my checking account!!! Now I'm in collections? Why? They still haven't told me what the original charge was - that they were already paid for. Now they're trying to extort still more money? This is a scam.

I received a late fee of 25.00 for a Balance of $43.66 that I paid off. I submitted my payment through my bank to arrive prior to the payment due date and my bank payment date reflects it was paid to Target on time. Target assessed the fee 2 days after the payment date stating they received the payment 2 days late. Target would not waive the fee so I closed my account. Guess I will be doing business online with their competitor. Terrible customer service experience.

I had recently set up direct monthly payment withdrawal through Target.com. I called in to check my balance & realized my payment had not gone through. I explained to the representative, they said they couldn't do anything about the late fee so I asked to speak to a supervisor. The representative denies me to speak with a Supervisor & then states she is a supervisor. After a few minutes of going back & forth, I call it quits & device to call back. A few days later I call back & same thing. The representative states they are a supervisor & then I ask to speak to management, he says he is management as well. Today I called again. The representative once again will not transfer my call to a supervisor & states that he is a supervisor. I, then, ask to speak to a manager. He says he is a manager.
I called it to his attention that this is the 3rd time I call and every time the representatives all claim they are supervisors and then managers. I asked if they are all trained to be supervisors and managers or if everyone who answers the phone is a manager or supervisor. The representative/supervisor/manager then advised me that he will have to disconnect the call because he has repeated himself. I'm still in disbelief. What is really going on with the Customer Service Representatives and what type of people are supervising them? I'm very disappointed with Target as a whole. I am a loyal Target shopper and I spend thousands of dollars there. I do all my shopping there and I buy most of my kids' clothes at Target. I feel like I probably won't be going back to Target. I'm going to pay my credit card off and carry on.

This company is absolutely ridiculous. I've been a customer for 7 years and the one time I'm late they refuse to forgive my late fee. I was hung up on, told that there were no supervisors on the floor, and was denied the option when I asked to hold for a supervisor.

Target charged a $25.95 late fee for a $46 purchase I made. This after the check was mailed to them way before the due date of the 17th of the month (around Jan 30). Since on their end they posted the check on the 20th, they slapped the late fee on the customer and refused to waive it. The customer cannot be paying for postal or administrative delays in posting a check, which I was forced to do. Full disclosure: When I called on the 19th of the next month, they had levied another late charge which they did waive off as a one-time courtesy. Because of the data breach, all my other cards were frozen & I was severely inconvenienced while traveling overseas. My offer to target was keep my business, issue a new card and waive all previous fees that according to me are made in error. Solution was highly unsatisfactory & I feel cheated of my money.

I bought one $23 Christmas Gift at Target and was persuaded to apply for the Red Card to get a discount. I only had a temporary paper receipt, until the card showed up in the mail. I signed up for paperless statements, and evidently received an email statement at the end of January with the charge. January 20th, my mother collapsed in my kitchen and needed an ambulance, and later a pacemaker. She was discharged on the 23rd. This was also the due date for the charge. In addition, I get tons of promotional emails from stores, so I must have missed it. I called in February to apologize and I paid the tiny amount in full. Meanwhile, Target had my contact information, could have called me to ask for payment or report a past due amount, but I received no notice in the mail or call. They reported this tiny amount to the credit bureaus, and still list it as unpaid. I found out through another creditor reviewing my info. for a lower interest rate. Lousy customer service - no apology - made excuses - won't be shopping at Target anytime soon.

I was one of the people whose information was stolen on the first day of the hack, although it was not my Target card. In the midst of dealing with that mess, I resorted to cash only at Target. Apparently, this is unacceptable at Target, because they repaid me first by lowering my limit, then by closing my card. I found this out through my constant credit checks due to HAVING MY IDENTITY STOLEN AT THEIR STORE! To this day, I have not received anything in the mail notifying me of their actions or explaining them. When I called them, they said I should reapply for a higher credit limit. I informed them that I will not be reapplying or even setting foot in their store again.

I had lost my whole purse during an event so needed to replace all my cards including the Target card. The only way to get help with the card, is go online or call their customer service. I requested that my card be replaced which they promptly responded to and said they would mail it out. 2 months later, after a couple of shopping trips to Target, I am still without the card, because they never sent it out. When I called them again, they mentioned there was a hold until I verified my address. I verified my address and said they would mail it out. I didn't receive the second one either. Again a few months later, I called as I had already spent a considerable amount of money at Target and the card would've given me some discount. I called again and the customer service agents, said it was still on hold because my address wasn't verified. So he corrected it and said it would on it's way. It's been 10 months and I haven't received it yet. I got very tired of their inadequacy and had my account closed. I was informed that I would receive a discount if I had my receipts and applied for a new RED card.

Attempted to make payment on target red card. Was not aware that Target had the power to dictate how many hours are in a day. Even if you make your payment on its due date, if it is after 11 p.m. Central Time it is considered late. Was not aware of this but still had time to make my payment before 11 p.m. Central Time. However their automated system disconnected me 2 or 3 times and by the time I was able to speak with someone it was a couple minutes after 11 p.m. Therefore they said that I would be charged a late fee.
The last supervisor that I spoke with told me that no matter who I talk to I would not get my late fee reversed. I did make my payment on the 20th when it is due yet they still say it's late because it's after 11 o'clock p.m. Central Time. That supervisor would not listen to me nor did she seem to care that it was not my fault that the payment was late according to them and how many hours are in the day according to them and then when I said I have heard what she said I can make my payments automatically every month or go online and I said "you said that at least 10 times I've heard you" and when I said "I want you to listen to me once again. That is not my fault that your system disconnected my call more than once. Had it not, my payment would have been in before 11 p.m."
Even though I disagree with the fact that they have the power to say when the day ends I still made my payment on the 20th. To put icing on the cake so to speak this supervisor hung up on me. I am not amused and I plan on going on every possible Facebook, Twitter you name it and share my experience that's a bad experience with target's customer service. I have been a customer for many years and spend anywhere from $500 to $800 a month in groceries, home products, clothing and miscellaneous. That is going to stop immediately. I have never ever dealt with such bad and rude and unprofessional customer service in the 48 years that I've been on this earth. It is not necessarily the $25 I am pissed about it is the principle of the fact that they have an automated system the does not always work properly and I as the consumer has to pay the penalty. Also the supervisor that I spoke with before she rudely hung up on me, said that there was no one else that I can talk to. I find it hard to believe that late at night she was the highest on the management chain.
