I have been Target Red Card holder for over 20 years. First they stopped taking payments of my bill in the store. Now they don't seem to receive my payments by check in the mail even though I mail them 1--15 days ahead of the due date. Target needs to be investigated! What they are doing to customers to try to collect more money for late payments that aren't late at all is just appalling!! Every other reputable company seems to receive and process payments when they are mailed more than 10 days prior to the due date! Why can't you Target?

I just canceled this card after a little over one year. I rely on email payment reminders, and the one that Target provides via the website doesn't work half the time - it keeps resetting back to 15 days (before a payment is due) after I've set it to SIX days twice now. Gee - I wonder why this hasn't been fixed??? They hit me with a > $30 < late fee the one and only time I was late with a payment. So... nope. Canceled. Card service folks didn't care one whit when I called in, of course. Can't recommend this card, although I guess I'd been fairly happy with it up until now. It's also soured me a bit on Target, will be reducing my shopping there, I think. Enjoy that $30 that lost you hundreds, Target & Red Card.

This card is not worth it. Please, seriously consider a different option. Not only is the APR outrageous, but the customer support is less than 1 star. Let me give an example. The website to pay the Target Store credit card went down for maintenance. During the time the website went down, no payments could be made. They did say that all late fees due to the website being down would be waived. The time period that the website was down was the time period that I pay my bill every month. I have had this card for a while and never missed a payment or had a late payment. When the website was back up and running, I made a payment and it went through just fine. That was less then two weeks after my initial try.

When I went back to the website the next month to pay my bill, I noticed there was a late fee. I called and the customer service I got was dreadful. They blamed me for not paying the bill, even though the website was down. When I mentioned that, they told me it was my fault for basically "Not figuring it out" and told me the late fee would stay. In the middle of the conversation with the Target customer rep, they just hung up on me. That was absolutely wild. I didn't swear or yell. I just wanted to get to the bottom of it.

AT the end of the day, it is just a late fee of $30, which is super annoying, but it won't break the bank for most people. But this is just poor practice on Target's part. It is stealing money from families because Target decided to do work on a website and make it unavailable for payments. Target is not out to take care of its customers, but to squeeze them for every penny they can.

I was excited to apply for Target credit card as I live in Hawaii and looked forward to items being shipped and delivered to my home for free and in a timely fashion. However, the difficulty making online payments, with issues with payment processing times and fees that were applied because they declined my auto pay and then added late fees to the balance. I was calling at least once a week to fix each incident and then it would happen again and again. I finally got so fed up with their service and failure to fix the problem I cancelled the card and will not be shopping at Target in the future. It's not worth the headache.

So, here's my story. In December 2024, I made a small purchase of $42.17 with my Target Red Card Mastercard. Because I rarely use this card and I didn't realize all of my paperless statements were filtered to my junk email, I failed to pay off the balance when it was due. On March 13th 2025, I received a phone call from Target Red Card informing me that my payment was over 30 days past due. I paid the full amount they asked for while on this phone call which was $115.90 which included the original amount of $42.17 plus $41.00, I assume late fee and $1.66 in interest. I apologized for having missed the payment and thanked the representative for making the phone call. I thought this was the end of it and it was no big deal as I had never been late with any prior payments to them or any other credit card for that matter which could be represented with my credit scores of TransUnion of 810 and Equifax of 781 prior to this.

On or about March 20th 2025 I received and email from TransUnion that there had been a change to my credit score so I checked it out and to my great surprise my TransUnion credit score had dropped 86 points (now 724 from 810) and my Equifax credit score had dropped a whopping 114 points (now 667 from 781). After looking through the information, I discovered that this was due to Target Red Card Mastercard not only reporting the delinquent payment to the credit bureau but they had also dropped my credit limit from $2,000 to just $200 with no notification from them that they were taking this action. Both of these severely impacted my credit scores. I immediately contacted Target Red Card and they said there was little they could do to reverse the reported delinquency to the credit bureaus and that they would have to submit a request to upper personnel to have my credit limit increased back to the original limit of $2,000.

I continued on with my search for satisfaction by contacting both TransUnion and Equifax to see if there was any way to restore my credit score. Both have made formal requests to Target Red Card Mastercard to get an updated report of my account. So, you may be asking what has any of this Target Red Card Mastercard business got to do with Capitol One Quick Silver Mastercard. Well, while searching for information contributing to the decline in my credit score, I discovered that Capitol One Quick Silver had dropped my credit limit from $5,000 to just $2,000 as a result of this very small one-time uncharacteristic late payment to Target Red Card.

This has contributed to the fall of my credit score in part. As I mentioned at the beginning of this email, I have spent a decent amount of time on hold with Capitol One today in an effort to see if I could have my credit limit restored to no avail. I even attempted to go through the automated credit limit increase system and was denied. As I am typing this sentence for the third time today, I have been on hold for 38 minutes. That is more than two hours of my Saturday spent waiting on hold to simply try to talk to a human.

Thoughts of cancelling both my Target Red Card and Capitol One Quick Silver Card have crossed my mind but I have not up to this point because I know that this would further negatively impact my credit score. So, I guess I have no choice but as a last-ditch effort, to send complaints to the Better Business Bureau about all of my points of contact regarding a $42.17, fully satisfied, just over 30 days late, one-time missed payment.

Closed my account, after 9 years with them. During a period that they were doing, announced website/app maintenance. Over a few "returned" payments. In which my accounts had the money available. Did not notify me at all of the issues, no textlike my other cards would do. No email, no letters (probably because I am paperless on my account). There is no excuse for the lack of communication. I have excellent credit, and am an American Express card holder. I kept this account for the pure sake of my account age. In which they just ruined. I will not be opening a new account with them. The rewards suck anyways. I will not be shopping at Target anymore either. This is a loss of about 4,000 a month. A win for other retailers, sorry for you target.

They keep changing the website, and every time they do it's like starting over. The calling in a payment is like pulling teeth. I've never had a card, and I've had many ,that makes it so hard to pay them. Get it together fools, people don't have time to be patient with credit card companies.

When you go to apply online for the credit card, it doesn’t say that there are TWO different ones, and they will decide which one you get. On their website it details out the benefits. The reason I applied was for the credit card that allows for benefits outside of target - aka earning points for other purchases outside of Target. APPARENTLY there is a circle card and a Mastercard, but on their website it does not show up as two options. My card shows up (apparently I was chosen for the circle card) and it doesn’t have the benefits promised online. Mind you I have an exceptional credit score and average household income. I called target and was basically told, "Oh well you’re stuck with it."

I've had a Target Card for over 15 years, but when they switched it to MasterCard, I haven't been able to manage payments online or see purchase activity. I've had to call to make each payment, which is always in full, because of this inconvenience. I rarely use the card and have been threatened to have my card closed because of inactivity, so on February 15 of this year, I made a $38.00 in-store purchase. I received a letter dated March 5 explaining that a $69.00 charge had been posted because of my late payment?

My available balance has declined in the past 5 years from $10,000 to 1,000.00 and now $200.00 because of this "late" payment. They sent only a payment coupon with a previous balance of $38.00 and the late charge added to it for a total of $107.00 due. No activity sheet. I wish I'd never used the card just to make them happy! I don't even have a Target store near me so I can't use it very often. My credit rating has now gone from 814 to 693. I paid the total balance by phone and a week later it still hadn't posted even though it's gone through my account. I'm waiting to get my credit rating back up since I never ever make late payments, then canceling this card. I wish I'd never gotten it. All it's done is cause me credit rating worries.

3/28/25-I had my Red Card since 2014 and always paid it off immediately. Today I got a bill in the mail for almost $200. When I called Target, I was connected to their debut collector. Upon talking to her, she said I had a charge for approx $30 in August of 2024 (I do not remember this charge, got no bill, and when I called to check my balance in December it was ZERO ). I told the collector I would pay the original charge but not all these added fees as there was no notification of this charge and I don't recall making it. She said the least I could pay would be approx $100. I will not be paying this bill and would be filing a Federal complaint, I believe this is a systemic tactic this company is using to gouge fees. I've been a loyal customer of Target for years but NEVER again, and I could care less if my credit rating is messed up over a couple of hundred dollars, these are totally UNETHICAL practices.

The website states there is a number to call for card information, however, the employees will do nothing to help the issue. They refuse to give card information over the phone but insist you need to give your bank information to them instead.

This is absolutely unnecessary and unacceptable. I refuse to give my personal information verbally to someone over the phone. I want to be able to see things for myself. When I asked to speak to a different representative, the person speaking with me muted his phone call and refused to speak with me again. Do not use this company. They do not care about helping you. Well - they decided to separate and outsource this to offshore dealing alongside a broken website that no longer allowed sign-in to pay your bill. Forging a hundred excuses in time, taking zero responsibility. In fact blaming YOU the customer for "not paying on time" And twice now they've canceled my card/account in good standing, with the repeat dull excuse that I've been late. Which of course is an utter lie. Can't reach a Mgr. to straighten this out, so to hades with them. I'll drive to my nearby store and pay manually. Kissing them and their trash retail goodbye.

Using the Target Red Card is easy for purchases. The problem comes when you go to pay the bill. There is no "Pay Bill" tab anywhere on the website, the app or on the email they send with your statement. It's ridiculous. I have called numerous times to try to fix it. It is singularly the most confusing and annoying card to work with. It seems to have started with the RED CARD merged with the credit card. Ever since, it has been nearly impossible to pay the pill unless you drive to the store or call the customer service line. Even when you call customer service, it's pretty slow and annoying, you have to confirm your account number and then it reads it back VERY SLOWLY. You go to make a payment and the computer voice rambles on with every option available. I can literally pay all of my bills with other accounts faster than this one account. If I could rate it a ZERO, I would.

And even if it goes through the call gets disconnected in between the conversation and they never worry to call you back. The representatives are very unprofessional and they lack skills to understand your concern and provide any kind of solution.

With recent experience in October and November, I felt like being scammed by them. When I called and requested to close my account due to the poor customer service and having incorrect late charge and not getting proper response of resolution from them, the rep insisted to keep my account and to call back in November so they can take care of incorrect late charge removal. Then when I called in November, the rep responded me that he is not aware as I spoke to different person but this time I told strongly to close my account. I have been a cardholder for target credit card for over five years. I never allowed them to raise the limit because I had heard about how they treated people in the past however, I am a person who gives folks a chance. The convenience was helpful for my family. The balance was paid off every month.

A few months prior to the credit card not being paid. I had a stroke and was in the hospital for a month. I called to check in on my balance once I got better I was wondering why the money was not being taken out directly from my account. They told me that they canceled it or someone had canceled it I said for over multiple years you’ve been taking it directly out of my account why was it canceled, they did not have an answer and told me that I needed to pay this fee. I was frustrated, but I said fine I’ll pay it after paying it in January. I didn’t find out in March that these people put a negative report in to the credit bureau a few times, hence my credit dropping so dramatically.

This is a horrible company that do not treat their customers properly and I would never recommend them to anyone. I read the reviews posted and it seems as if they have done this to several people over and over with no consequences. Quite disappointed that the credit bureau has not investigated. They refuse to bring up account number and info. They were treating me like a criminal. You didn't require that info when done application online.

All I wanted was to find out what my bill was. One representative couldn't bring up my account with my order number; my account didn't exist. My account should of been able to be brought up with my order, ssn number, etc. I verified all info. All I wanted was my bill amount & the debit card to be canceled. After I was approved and made 3 orders I called, verified my account, etc. They didn't require all this info like DL or SSN number before. It seems like you should of all times ask for all the physical ID stuff at the time I applied, but you didn't. You took me through pure deep hell and all I wanted was my amount due, and when it needed to be paid.

I'm paying my bill off quickly and feel it problematic to do business with you. You should of welcome me in wanting to pay bill & given account info. I verified who I was. However, on May 10, I received an email informing me that my payment of $11.31 was returned?! I checked my Target online app again on 5/13 to make sure my updated bank info was recorded correctly, and it was. So I placed a call to customer service to inquire why my payment was returned. Since I had not made any purchase since April 8, and my May payment due was paid in full; why would I incur a returned payment? When I checked my account online, I discovered that not only the $12.31 ($11.31+$1.00) had not been withdrawn from my checking account; the amount due in May showed a balance of $23.62. And the amount due in June was $48.24!!! Mind you, I only made a purchase on April 8, in the amount of $11.31 and my bank account was updated on May 1st. I should only be responsible for the $11.31.

I called Target CC customer service over 5 different times trying to get this resolved. They insisted that "their system" shows that my autopay was set up on an account that had been closed, there was nothing they could do but for me to pay the amount showing on the statement. I finally got to talked to a supervisor by the name of "Nicholas", she was most unreasonable and would NOT listen. She insisted that I must pay $23.62; after I made that payment, she would give me a one time courtesy refund of the remaining $23.62. But I only owed $11.31!!! She hung up on me. After all this fiasco is over, I will close my Target Red Card. The 5% discount is not worth the rudeness and incompetency of their customer service.

5% is nice. Interest rate is high.. Be careful when you’re trying to make any changes using the online website, as there can be issues with information being saved. My experience when attempting to change info on the online site was evidently not saved, though showed saved at the time I was on the website. Usually I receive an email, this time there was nothing, so I logged in and saw the old info still on my profile. Extremely small balance on card at the time. Credit limit was extremely high due to time I’ve had the card. Unfortunately I was a couple of days late, and they reported the card as not being paid. Spoke to customer service, and explained the situation, not much help on their end, though looking at my history over the past 13 years and never having any problems the customer service was surprised, as the balance was extremely small.. I changed the info manually with them since there were issues with the online service website..

TD Bank holds the card.. paid off small balance on card and cancelled it. Now having to dispute issue with credit bureau.. if I would’ve kept the card, they review in 6 months and then decide whether or not to increase your credit limit. Not worth the trouble anymore.. Be extremely wary of this card. Customer service can do nothing as it’s a TDBank card. Again… any changes call customer service instead of using the website. They’ll email you the changes.

Experienced financial problems, tried to fix with Target Red Card services, 12 months payments. Completed the monthly repayment plan, requested auto-pay, but apparently didn't apply, more late fees. Contacted the service people which are very rude. I will never step into a target or deal with this organization again. Allied or Alliance services, which is their recovery program is full of rude people. They were quick to offer a small discount compared to the large amount of interest charged. Had the card for over 16 years. Times have changed, no more target!

I have called THREE times, just spent OVER ONE HOUR on the phone with their 'Gift card dept.' and they told me to create a new email just for them to email me the rewards -- WHAT!!?! I requested they just mail me the gift cards [$16. + $15.00] BUT they said they can't do that - WHAT THE HECK!?! When I asked for a supervisor, The person I spoke with [Diego] kept saying he WAS the supervisor because he answered the phone [?] and no one else could help me. STAY AWAY FROM TARGET REDCARD MC PROGRAM IF YOU WANT TO COLLECT YOUR EARNED REWARDS!!! I will NOT be using The Red Card anymore!!

This is the worst credit card to have. Their system is awful. Nothing's updated in a reasonable amount of time. They hold payments and return payment for absolutely no reason and dealing with their customer service is a nightmare. Never using this card again

My Red Card was declined for the first time in 9 years and when I called, I was told it was because a renewal card had been sent and returned as undeliverable. Target sent it to an old address even though I updated my address on my account. They apologized and agreed to send a new card by two-day delivery- and they sent me the same card, same number which was not valid and I couldn't activate it because they cancelled that number. They apologized again and said they were sending me a new card two-day delivery and I would need to sign for it. (At this point I had been without a card for 10 days.) I stayed home the day of delivery to sign for it and it never came. When I called I was told by a Manager that although it was 'supposed' to be sent two-day, it wasn't and had actually not been shipped at all. He apologized again but this time I said an apology wasn't good enough.

So far my card had been declined at the register which was embarrassing, I was sent the wrong card twice- and then I stayed home all day for a card that wasn't even shipped. I said I wanted a gift card to compensate me for my time and he said he could not do that. He wouldn't even give me a coupon off a purchase which just adds insult to injury. He then assured me the card was being sent again two-day delivery with no signature required this time. That was Monday and today is Friday and NO CARD HAS ARRIVED! When it does come - if it does comes - I am NOT activating it. I am NEVER shopping at Target again - and that is not something I am just saying. My patronage is worth something but apparently Target doesn't think so and if it is this difficult to send me a card to spend money at their store, I will spend my money elsewhere. Target provided me with horrendous experience and even worse customer service!!

I used my card at a Racetrac with a locking card mechanism which malfunctioned and kept my card. For 10 mins we tried to get the card out, I had an employee out helping me and they ended up calling for a technician but they were backed up for four hours. We yanked and pulled and canceled the sale over and over. I left my name and number and went to find something to do for four hours. About 10 mins later I get called by an employee who says a random person entered the store, said they got my card out, called the number on the back, cancelled my card, and then 'destroyed it', and then left the store. They were unable to recover the card or pieces of it.

I immediately called Target when that call ended. I called Target because you CAN NOT cancel a card, put a hold on a card, or reissue a NEW card number online. It's infuriating. I have a CREDIT CARD, a MASTERCARD, through Target with thousands in credit, and it's not treated like a credit card. It's not secure, it doesn't have accessibility online or proper security controls online. You have to call to do anything meaningful. An employee listened to my story and then told me that since I was not the account holder that I could not put a hold on the card, cancel the card, or reissue the card.

Meanwhile on the website it repeatedly says that when you add a cardholder they are considered to have full account access and the account holder is responsible for any actions they make with their card because the authorized card holders have full access to the credit lines. So...that's not true? Because if I had full access, I'd be able to cancel and reissue a STOLEN CARD.

So yeah, my card is stolen and I have to wait for my disabled mom to get up to call Target because you can't secure your account without the account holder. This is ignoring that I have PoA anyway and can legally manage her monetary accounts anyway. All that said, that proves the person lied and stole my card because Target won't cancel/stop a card if you're not the account holder. Fantastic. It's just a bad credit card in regards to security.

There was a credit card account opened in my name by a family member back when I was 19 and did not know how to check my credit. Target refuses to remove the charge off from my credit, despite me paying it off. I explained the entire situation to one of their “account managers” and even though I took responsibility for it and paid it, they still slapped a “charge off” status on my credit just to make sure this would have a huge negative impact on my financial life for 7 more years from the payoff date. When attempting to explain the situation to their “account manager” all she had to say was “there’s nothing we can do, maybe try sending us letter instead.” So the few points you should take from this is

    1. They do not know how to properly check for identity theft. If someone has your social, they’ll give them a credit card and make you responsible.
    2. They offer no solutions for you in the event that this does occur.
    3. They have no online or phone solutions, and will instead ask you to send them a handwritten letter like we’re living in the 1800s.

    4. Even after you give up and pay them, they’ll still make sure you never get passed it, by putting a “charge off” status on the account in your credit.

If you use this card make sure you sign up for paper statements because they make it impossible for you to sign into your account to check your bill. I am left guessing each month, trying to remember if I used the card, and how much I might owe. They will let me sign in to the Target website and recognize my computer, but when I go to the red-card link, they insist they do not recognize my computer and require a verification through my phone. They then fail to send the verification code. This is simple coding and if they do this repeatedly, it is obviously by design. It must lead them to make a fortune on late fees... Especially if they are not sending paper bills. I'm going to tear the card up and I'll be less likely to choose Target in the future.

The card itself is good I guess and saves you 5% on purchases but if you ever want a credit line increase you have to fight for it even if you've been a customer of theirs for years and years and I've never paid a late payment in my life. It used to be you could get on the phone with them and they could look at your account and they would let you know right then whether or not you qualified for an increase. Now it takes 6 to 12 months for the "system" to approve you and if you try to call and get a status of it or talk to anybody about it, nobody can tell you an answer because it's not them that does it, it's the "system". Apparently Target has decided to outsource their operations overseas so the department that supposedly handles this is in India and nobody can call them to inquire, they can only send a message, but either way you don't get an answer because they never call you back to let you know what happened.

I've been trying to get an increase since September 2021, have talked to a dozen Cust Svc Reps since then, and still no word. And I can almost bet that as of September of this year (which will be the max 12 months you're supposed to have to wait) that I still won't have an answer. It's sad the way these companies treat good customers. I guess by then I'll decide if I'm going to close my account and take my business somewhere else because things like this are ridiculous for no reason at all!!!

I had just a Target Red Card in 2016 with at 250.00 limit. They upped my limit to 500.00 shortly after using the card in 2016 and kept raising it. I was upgraded to a Target MasterCard in 2017 or 2018 with a 9,000.00 limit. Then in 2019 upgraded to a 11,000.00 limit. The bank behind this card is TD Bank USA, N.A. and the interest rate was terrible and the website for making payments is not well designed. If large payments are made they can take a long time to post which is frustrating. Customer service is ok but not the best when you call. The Target MasterCard rewards are not worth it and you just cash them out and get a gift card to use at target. Avoid this card the interest rate is terrible and the bank behind the card is average at best.
